You are Nakashiri Koharu, third seat officer of the esteemed fifth division, and you are currently on an assignment.

To Hueco Mundo.

Officially you should be in Osaka, but your secret missions for both Aizen and Urahara take you to this dayless realm: To make more arrancars in Aizen’s name, and to find Urahara’s missing exiled captain.

Bizarrely, you’re in a westerner-style pizzeria that an arrancar is running in one of the four realms (at least, those that you know of) here, in Azulwald, the blue forest. Having just talked to a malformed hollow called Mal, who has Zilya’s parasite stuck in him, you are interrupted by a panicked, goofy-looking hollow.

“EVERYONE DO NOT PANIC! WE’RE UNDER ATTACK, DON’TCHA KNOW!”

There’s a moment of silence before the whole bar erupts in laughter. One of the four women, the one you saw outside first, approaches the hollow and puts a hand on his head.

“Oi, Dondochakka, the fuck you talking about? We’re in Vanaheim. We got the walls and the Exequias.”

“Y-Yes b-but! There’s an army of Gillians!”

“So? They’re docile cattle. Not many can even get here.”

“SOME BIG MONSTER THREW THEM ALL UP INSIDE OUR WALLS AND THEY’RE THRASHING ABOUT WILDLY, DONT’CHA KNOW!”

The woman looks now more concerned, and looks towards the other three girls, and they promptly storm out of the building, disappearing in a flash past the swinging doors. The other patrons quickly follow suit, but by simply running.

You and Lahela look at each other and nod, deciding to follow for now.

After making your way further away from the quartz tree that marks the center, you reach the border of the city, marked by the white walls. The scene you find is quite alarming. There’s a huge, no, gargantuan monstrosity leaning over the white wall, and puking out black liquid with the white generic masks belonging to Gillians, but also some weird glass rods. The Gillians then form from that mass with a mask, but also have these rods stuck in various parts of their bodies, and begin firing ceros everywhere.

The site is much like a warzone, with so many explosions, smoke and craters.

“Shit! Where’s that idiot when you need him?!” you overhear one of the women shout.

“The Espada are securing the borders, remember?” the long-sleeved one says rather calmly.

“Psh, we’ve got to take care of this mess ourselves or we’ll never hear the end of it,” the angry one says and cracks her knuckles.

“Avoid that area there,” the amazon woman says. “Looks like Doc already released his bioweapon.”

You take a look in the area where she pointed, and see Gillians just… deteriorate away into decay. That’s… scary. In the distance you can also see Dordoni, Cirucci and Gantenbainne fighting as well.

You’ve avoided their attention for now with good old Kyokkō, and consider the options here. They clearly need any help they can get, and that way you could earn some trust and respect. But at the same time, this is a good distraction. Especially since you now know the Espada are away.

Nobody most likely could stop you from snooping around.

Welcome to a new thread of Advent Soul Quest!

>What is this?
A quest based on the setting of Bleach. Deviation from canon depends on the MC’s influence, and some other additions are to be expected as well.
>Who are we?
Nakashiri Koharu, a former 10th grade (high schooler) trap, now a 3rd seat officer in Aizen’s 5th Division, under a spy mission from Urahara.
>When are we?
Currently it is Spring 1985, ~16 years prior to the events of canon.
>Dice? Challenge?
Prompted after deciding on an action. Usually 3d10, best of 3 (Bo3), against a set DC and sometimes a crit-DC. Write-ins may affect the DC as well. If a character stat (in the char sheet) is directly related to the action, it will substitute the lowest die in rolls if it is higher (will be always explained when prompted to roll).
>Updates?
Daily updates, with long voting period times. I will strive to update in my evening, leave voting on for overnight, and prompt rolls in the morning. Sometimes if I have the proper time, I may do an extra update in the morning. My timezone is UTC+3 (summer time).
>I have questions!
Ask away and I’ll do my best to answer! You can also address questions to characters, which I’ll answer in-character!
>What do?
Have fun, vote on what feels the best, roll some dice and chill.

You observe the situation for a tad bit longer under the veil of your spell, enough that Lahela starts getting anxious.

“Aren’t we going to helpss them?” she asks.

“They look like they can handle themselves,” you nod. Despite these being all Menos-class hollows, it looks like Vanaheim’s residents eat them for breakfast. It’s more about damage control than anything else you believe. Still, you can see Lahela’s not feeling comfortable just sitting there.

“You know, if you want to go and help, you can do so.”

“B-But-”

“No buts. Well, maybe sometime. Anyway, what I want to do is kind of a solo-thing, so go ahead. I’ll find you afterwards, okay?”

Lahela grips her fists tightly close, and nods after finally coming to a decision. “I’ll ssee you later, then, Koharu!”

With that, she leaves the confines of the spell, and rushes to aid the four girls.

“Now then,” you whisper, as you turn your attention back towards the hollow city hidden in blue leaves, “what’s a moment of opportunity if not this?”

On the top of one of the azure trees, you close your eyes and concentrate on your sixth sense, the sense that you’ve grown to rely on the most over the years. The background reiatsu of this realm still interferes with you, as do the strongest reiatsu signature belonging most likely to the calamities and perhaps the leaders of the other realms.

You look beneath them, isolating them away, and try to make sense of the other presences around here.

Moving from one area of the city to another, you look through the various sites for anything unusual. The Espada meeting area is of course the first place you check, but finding nothing there, you ponder on the next location.

That’s when you feel a very, very faint but familiar sense.

In a moment, familiar ribbons form around you: reishi taking the form of ribbons, attuned to the sources of the reiatsu signatures all around you. Not only is this said to be a hard technique to learn, but an even harder to master. Surrounded by the black ribbons of the hollow residents, along with a few thick and large ones for the stronger presences, you observe.

Your hand delves in, and from the myriad of ribbons you pull out one.

A red ribbon. Tattered, very thin, and chunks keep breaking from it.

“Now what do we have here?” you grin lightly.

Your expedition takes you to the food processing area of Vanaheim, an open-roof factory of sorts. There’s hollows patrolling it of course, understandably so as you just happen to see one of the hollows trying to sneak in for more food.

Luckily, you have your spell to hide you, and you pass the guards with no trouble, even with the air patrols.

Mostly this place consists of concentrated Idun-fruit plantations, as well as animal hollow herding and meat processing. Rather straightforward, almost like machinery, but operated by hollows.

However, where you end up is a bit away from the rest of this complex, and you stumble upon an amusing scene.

There’s a large mill, and what should be operated by, say, a donkey, is instead operated by a blonde man, encased in some weird turquoise goo, and bound to the mill’s handle. Underneath him is a weird metallic plate that seems to be very, very hot.

And the poor soul doesn’t have shoes on him.

“OUCH! OUCH! OUCH!” you hear him shout as he tries his best to keep running and keep his feet from burning. Sweat drips down his tired face, and sizzles into steam as it hits the metal.

A few looks at his face confirms the description Urahara gave you.

Straight-cut blonde hair, stupid-looking face, orange blouse with a black tie.

“What luck that I found you on the first day, huh. Or night,” you think to yourself.

You figure the best way to go about it is to disable that heated floor, for a number of reasons that you think will become apparent soon.

Going around, you find that the mechanism is kind of funny. Essentially there’s an oven right underneath the mill, with burning charcoal, but also an air pump which is pushed and pulled… by the turning of the mill. It also seems to gradually add more wood in.

The poor man is literally fueling his own misery here.

“Hmm, I need to douse this somehow,” you think to yourself, as you look around. There’s a small canal nearby made to channel water from the big lake within the city. Allegedly it had just sprung up one day. Luckily for you, there’s a bucket nearby which you use to get some of that sweet water and throw it in.

It takes a bunch of buckets to get the job done, as the first ones pretty much sizzled into steam from the heat. For a moment you think that you just made the metal plate above even more hot, but ultimately, you extinguished the fire.

The metal quickly loses the remaining heat, and Shinji slows down to a walk as he realizes that the floor isn’t lava anymore.

“Huh, is it break time already?” he slumps down, despite his upper torso and arms being still encased in that weird goop along with the mill’s handle. He coughs quite badly for a moment.

Just as you expected though, a hollow comes to take a look.

“Keep workin’ you shinigami scum!” he shouts as he tries to figure out what’s happening, and goes to check the oven.

“Dunwanna,” Shinji just replies, and dozes off right there and then.

“GRRRR,” growls the hollow. It appears he really does not like not understanding what’s happening.

It’s not hard to get behind this hollow, and you part the kidō veil around you just enough so that you can extend your zanpakutō.

“Mediate, Naimen no Daiza.”

With a light breeze at most, your blade transforms into the cup-sword you’re very familiar with, and you hold the flat side against one part of the hollow. He only manages to slightly turn towards you when the surroundings melt.

In the early days you would’ve recoiled at the maddening chaos that plagues hollows, but with the training you did beforehand has prepared you well. This hollow is much easier too, since it has been able to keep his hunger at bay. Before you, you see a confused man.

“Your home is under attack,” you whisper, and that whisper echoes a few times throughout the mindscape, as it transforms into the battlefield that you saw before. “Do you not want to defend it?”

“I.. I’m not strong enough! A-And I have to do my job!”

“They are having trouble,” you continue, as forms of hollows and arrancars appear, and their forms are one by one destroyed by incoming volleys of uncontrolled ceros and their resulting explosions. “They need all the help they can get. What use is a job, if everything around you is gone?”

This does the trick it seems. When you pull out of the hollow’s mind, you can see him standing there for a few seconds, enough to return your zanpakutō back into the veil. He looks frantically around, before disappearing in the direction of the attack.

And so, you approach Shinji.

“I can sense ya, y’know.”

You part the cloak once more, now to show him your form.

“You’re saying you knew what was happening?”

He just nods. “It ain’t hard to see and figure things out when you know what to look for.”

“Speaking of which, I found you.”

“Yuuuup. Now what? Or if I’m being more frank, on whose side are you on?”

You both narrow your eyes, and then you just sigh. “Urahara asked me to find you.”

“Good disguise then,” he groans. “You really look like you’d fit in with those creeps. No offense.”

“Careful, you’re still bound,” you remind him.

“Not like you’re gonna do anything about that,” he rolls his eyes.

“Excuse me?”

“Ya have two faults in your plan, onee-chan. One, once the monster that runs this place comes back, he’ll figure what happened VERY quickly. Secondly, he has my zanpakutō. Fuck the irony of that.”

“Are you saying I went through all this trouble for nothing?”

“Not for nothing, no. You did give me rest, didn’t ya?”

You groan. “Then what needs to be done before you can get out of here?”

He tries to move his arm, but remembers that it’s still stuck. “One, a way to remove this disgusting crap off of me. Two, my zanpakutō back. Three, an escape route. You probably will want to figure out how to cover your tracks.”

“That last one is at least covered,” you sigh. “I can provide you passage at any time.”

You do wonder about all this. There’s still so much you don’t know about. What would be the best course of action?

If we well and truly wanted to be bold, we could just order him released on the basis that he now works for us. The Joker ought to get a kick at that, and all the other players ought to at least blink at our move.

I think we could even get away with it. Urahara still gets a resource freed, Aizen shifts ones of Urahara's pieces to a friendlier player, and Shinji gets out.

All that said, we would need to sell him on our general ideas. Modernizing the SS, finding better solutions for hollows. Make sure we could actually work together long-term.

We could force some loyalty with Hanran, but I don't want to do that unless forced. Or if we can just do it to prove he works for us, then have it wear off later. We have an agenda, but we're not looking to be an asshole along the way to it.

General idea, ask him to sabotage/eliminate Septima (the spider chick that Zilya hates). For Urahara, it eliminates one of Aizen's Espada. For Aizen, it makes it easier for us to consolidate Zilya's former realm and use it for his purposes. For us, it neutralizes someone who wants us dead. For Shinji... he gets to fuck around with the people who put him in here (assuming it's the Espada) while helping someone who wants things to be better? So we have an excuse for it no matter who asks.

We got the double crit. Let's take the excuse to absolutely fuck with everyone involved.

“I think the best course of action is diplomacy, really,” you say as you turn to look towards the quartz tree.

“Wait, wha-? You wanna haggle with these hollows?”

“Why not?”

“They aren’t exactly the type to listen to shinigami, y’know.”

“They’ve been nice so far to me.”

“Yeah, because of that uniform. They fear the man you represent.”

“Maybe. In that case I have even more leverage. I could then order you to be freed with the justification that you now work for me.”

“Haha, that’s funny,” Shinji laughs, and then sees that you are not. “Dear lord, you’re not joking?”

“I am serious. What got you into this mess anyway?”

“Ehhhhhhh,” Shinji starts sweating profusely. “I just snuck in this place, that’s all. Then the lizard found me.”

You raise an eyebrow.

“...Okay, I MAY have found and emptied their stash of booze, that shit was expertly made!”

Alcohol again? You shake your head.

“In any case, I’ll figure something out. But I will attempt the diplomatic approach first, I don’t want to have an entire realm of hollows against me just because I helped free a dangerous drunkard.”

“In any case, if I do get you free, there’s something I need you to do in return.”

Shinji’s expression changes a bit more to a serious side. “Hooh? Now whatever needs would you have of me?”

You close your own eyes and think about Zilya for a moment, before reopening them again.

“I need you to incapacitate someone and bring them to me. An Espada.”

“Why?”

“Personal reasons.”

“Why should I do it then?”

“Because Urahara, and by extension you, want to weaken Aizen’s forces, do you not?”

“Sure, that still doesn’t help the fact that I barely know who you are, nor whether I can trust your words. What’s to say you’re not on Aizen’s side, huh?”

You frown, but just shrug in the end. “You don’t have a lot of people that you can trust here. Besides, aren’t you already placing your trust in me to get out of here? I could also just say that I will give you passage to the living realm only after you’ve done what I ask of you. But for starters, my name is Nakashiri Koharu.”

“Touché. And I know your name. I can see what the idiot scientist thought when he sent you as well,” he sighs loudly. “Go to Hueco Mundo, he said. It’ll be fun, he said. Remind me to castrate him.”

“I’ll, uh, try?” you shrug. “I’ll get going, best that nobody sees us talking. We’ll be in touch.”

That would be the quartz tree, and that's pretty high up. Do you want that, or the next highest place, like a building? Both are fun ideas

Despite the troubles with the new captcha, I must say that posting has sped up significantly after the post button is pressed. Before there was always a delay, even minutes long.

I had been thinking a building, but gorgot about the tree.

I guess the tree. If it’s that tall, we can even make it a race to the top for funsies.

Also, agreed on the captcha. Cut down on bots posting, I guess. It can. e really hard to slide the bar on phone though.

“Actually, Dordoni-san,” you begin, as you give Lahela a glance, and then shift your eyes back to him. “Being an arrancar, would you know what the effect of consuming hollow, and especially menos flesh does to arrancars?”

“That’s an interesting question, señorita… The short answer is that it will give power, but if the flesh is untreated, it will slowly destabilize your mind,” he says as he rubs his chin.

“And the long answer?”

“It’s uh… I’m not too knowledgeable on this,” Dordoni explains as he shuffles his hair, “but hollows, and especially menos contain a lot of unsent souls, up to thousands and even millions, plus and hollow, si? The flesh naturally will contain them, unless you treat it first. That’s what we do with our meat, so that we can eat just the reiryoku filled reishi, with none of the soul pollution.”

You nod, and look at Lahela with some concern. She on the other hand avoids looking at you, realizing that what she did may not have been a good thing.

“What are the symptoms then?” you ask.

“Amnesia, loss of identity, violent and unpredictable behavior. If enough is consumed, the human form breaks, and that hollow turns permanently into a mindless Gillian. It’s quite ironic.”

You nod. “Thanks. We’ll be on our way then, Dordoni-san.”

“O-Oh, okay, if you say so señoritas! I can escort you if y-”

“No thanks,” both you and Lahela say in unison, and Dordoni falls down on the floor from depression, muttering something about utter defeat.

The two of you stand on one of the few tall buildings of Vanaheim, and take a good look around the bustling hollow city. It’s still a sight to behold, that the enemy you’ve been taught to see as mindless, deceiving horrors that need to be purified, was able to form such a complex society. An afterlife worthy on its own. And seemingly with less poverty than Soul Society’s Rukongai.

You instinctively clench your fists, and Lahela, noticing this, puts her hand on your shoulder. Lizzy crawls out of her sleeve and starts licking your face.

You can’t help but lighten and smile. “I’m glad you came with me.”

“Sso am I,” she gives you a wide grin.

You look up towards the quartz tree, beside which is the eclipsed moon of Hueco Mundo. “How about we go up there? We should be able to see pretty far from there.”

“Ssure!”

You usher Lizzy into your clothes, and tap Lahela’s forehead. “Race ya!”

And then you disappear, and so does she as she realizes what’s up.

You swear that along the way you can hear a voice singing, that voice belonging to the kid that pranked Dordoni and you, as well as the angry deer lady.

“Vanaheimian NIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHTS!”

Your momentary confusion is enough that Lahela overtakes you. “Oh no you don’t!”

Both you and Lahela grasp for air as both of you stand atop what might very well be the tallest point of Hueco Mundo, as even the mountains on the horizon seem to be lower.

“I… *PANT*... won!” Lahela declares.

“Sure you… *PANT*... did, you were a millisecond late!”

“Nu-uh!”

“Yu-uh!”

“...Draw?”

“...Draw.”

You sit on the branches and just feel the light swaying of the tree. Despite it being made of solid quartz, at these altitudes even it seems to be rocking gently back and forth. The wind is also much stronger up here. But what stuns you is more the scenery.

You can see how the blue forest thins out the further away you go. You can just see the shine on some parts of the black spiky mountains, looking like petrified hooded giants. Otherwise, there’s endless dunes of sand in all directions past the dense forest.

“Drianni wouldss love it here,” Lahela says. “Sshe always talkss about the old dayss.”

“Maybe we can bring her here then, someday?” you suggest, and recall the time you entered her mindscape. “Though this… isn’t the same as what she had back then.”

“Maybess,” Lahela shrugs. “Hey, Koharu?”

“Yeah?”

She puts a hand again on your shoulder, and looks deep into your eyes, before closing them and giving you the widest grin yet. “I wanna live withss you, ssomeplasse like thiss.”

You feel a light blush on your face and your heart skips a beat, and you can’t help but smile yourself.

“That would be nice, wouldn’t it..?”

I feel bad for doing this but I’ll have to postpone the omake until after I return from this camp on wednesday, since I just don’t have the time nor mental strength here to do that on top of making the regular updates. Sorry!

Questions, comments and all that of course welcome!

Thanks for the run, Trippy!

I take it Zilya is pleased with how we handled Shinji. Throwing her a curveball - if we took over her old realm, how would she feel about putting Drianni in charge and converting her while realm into a forest like Azulwald. Zilya may chafe at having her in charge, but jungle spiders are terrifying and it’d probably mean more visitors. Though we probably would make her cut back on that…
>>
>>4912149
She definitely likes it, but she wants to get her own 'hands' on her, hence why Koharu asked to bring her in incapacitated. As for that question, that'd be better dealt with in character I'd say. Something to bring up when you talk to her!

But the idea is pretty cool! And considering you're (so far) in control of things, even if she doesn't like the idea, you could do it. She might protest though if the idea is not to her liking. Ideally she'd want to be on the throne herself, but the next best thing is you.

I must confess that I did have some half-baked ideas of what kind of realm would Koharu make before I started the quest, and one was building a sort of shrine-like complex, much like Kasuga-taisha.

You are Nakashiri Koharu, and you’re currently in Hueco Mundo. After a surprisingly calm and even romantic moment at the top of the quartz tree with Lahela, you get some rest at the small white-stone house given to you.

The bed isn’t too comfortable, as they use some sort of cushiony material that smells like the jungle leaves. You make do with it however, and a few more nights go by, with you mostly getting to know the city and the scenery with Lahela.

During this time you also learn a bit more about the earlier attack. Apparently, that’s just one way the Sadist assaults Azulwald. The glass rods you saw in the Gillians were a clear mark of hers, which agitated them to thrash around while the big guy escaped.

The day comes when three Espada return to Vanaheim. When you ask around for what they were doing, you find out that they were busy redirecting the path of one of the calamities, that was otherwise heading dangerously straight towards the city.

While the residents cheer for their return, only the green-haired woman with a ram-mask stays, while the two others leave to their own businesses.

What confuses you though, ever since they approached and came back, you could only sense two incredibly strong presences.

But not a third one. Not even a weak one, nothing. Celaris couldn’t give you an answer either. It’s as if he isn’t registering on your radar.

That’s… pretty unnerving, given how much you’ve grown to rely on your sixth sense.

Before you get a chance to figure things out though, Dordoni finds you.

“We’v may have found a suitable candidate, señoritas. We’ll have to travel though, they won’t come here,” he says with a serious face. You can see Cirucci and Gantenbainne behind him as well.

“This one is, well,” Dordoni explains to you as you make haste out of Vanaheim and in the direction of the wastes. That of course doesn’t mean anything, given how much sand there is.

“He’s strong, but also an aggressive loco. On top of that, he has five other Adjuchas following him as a king. We tried to recruit him before, but we couldn’t even get close without a bad fight.”

“So what’s different now?” you ask.

“All but the king gave up on their quest to become Vasto Lorde. They were going to let him eat them. That’s when we intervened.”

“And they agreed to become.. arrancar?”

“They, uh, were willing to listen.”

You raise an eyebrow. This doesn’t sound like an easy case at all.

“You know who to call if you need them subdued,” Zilya chimes in in your thoughts. You can just hear her smug face.

“Duly noted.”

Your journey takes you to, surprise, a desert, but unlike other batches of sand, this one’s adorned with huge bones, springing forth from the sand. Gargantuan spines protrude from the sands and coil in the air, before going back underground. At the base of one of these is where you can see six hollows, almost pure-white, gathered.

Reminds you of that mosquito-hollow, specifically from the attack on the camp.

The five of you land outside of this bone formation. You proceed slowly and cautiously, but elegantly and confidently. Dordoni walks at the center and the rest of his trio to his left, while you and then Lahela are to his right.

“What are these weaklings you brought to me, you spic?”

What you see before you is a surprisingly small, but still much larger than you panther-like hollow. It wouldn’t seem so comical were his peers not multiple times taller than him. But you know very well that looks can be very much deceiving.

“She is Lord Aizen’s direct servant, and thus an extension of him, amigo,” he responds back to him in german, with strong confidence and strength behind the words. His choice of words does make your eyebrow twitch.

“This ain’t what you promised me, you shit.”

“I promised you a chance to become an arrancar, and to see how that works. Whatever assumptions you had were your own, amigo.”

“Cut the shit. I can see that these shits are weak trash. I’ll eat you.”

“You don’t even want to see how it works? You do remember that the process refines and strengthens your power, si?

There’s a short pause, where your group and this panther hollow’s group stare each other down in a very tense atmosphere.

“Señorita Lahela here was turned into an arrancar by señorita Koharu, and she started as a weak hollow.”

Lahela shifts a little nervously, but still does her best to display her strength and confidence, and especially her resolution.

“We all know what you fear. Regression. Becoming an arrancar will solve that.”

“Tsch,” the panther-hollow spits. The other hollows however do exchange looks.

I don't know if this is the right tack to take with Grimmjow since I stopped at the Bount arc. Feel free to ignore this if it'll just piss him off.

The tension is high, almost enough to cause lightning sparks in the air. Second by second though, you grow more tired of this.

So you take a step forth with resolution in your eyes.

"Look, you want to fight, and Lord Aizen has plenty of strong enemies. But my time is valuable, and you don't get to waste it hemming about whether you want power or mediocrity.”

The panther-hollow shifts his eyes to you, and you feel the full weight of his malice and power. You have to push out reiatsu of your own to not collapse, but it’s quite intense. You push through though, and finish your little speech.

“Are you in or out?"

Seeing that you still stand on your two feet, the Adjuchas spits again.

“Shinigami and hollows, side by side… What a fucking joke.”

He walks closer, prompting all of your allies to put their hands on their zanpakutō, but you keep your hand just lightly on it. If push comes to shove, you have a layer of protection called Hanran.

The beast is practically in front of your face. “Make no mistake, I’ll eat you the moment I deem fit. You don’t even look worth fighting, with such a shit physique. And none of your shitty ‘friends’ here can nor will stop me.”

You swallow hard, and feel the droplets of sweat flow down your cheek.

“The offer still stands.”

The panther-hollow returns to his group, and turns to face you again. The others relax a little bit, though they keep their hands close to the grips of their zanpakutō.

“I don’t know where you get your confidence, but I fucking hate it. You’re hiding something.”

“Don’t we all?”

You hear a bloodthirsty growl. “I’ll fucking rip your face off if you dare be smug with me again.”

You sigh and give a short nod. Jeez, how much of a hardass is this guy?

“So how does this shit work then?”

Dordoni steps forward. “Through señorita Koharu’s powers. It’s a much improved method over the risky traditional one.”

“You’re telling me I have to trust this punk shinigami?”

“I’m telling you to trust Lord Aizen,” Dordoni stresses. “He is… beyond what shinigami or hollow could dream of being.”

“Okay, fuck it, let’s pretend for a bit. What exactly are you gonna do?”

“I’ll touch you with my zanpakutō, and it’ll be done in a moment. The more you resist, the worse you’ll make it for yourself.”

“Oh that’s just fucking great. First trust a shinigami, then let them put a blade through our throats? The fuck you take me for, a fool?”

You can sense the apprehension the panther-hollow and his peers have towards this all. It doesn’t look like they’re willing to do it yet.

You are nearing the limit of your own patience, and clearly things are going nowhere as it is. It’s going to be risky, but you trust in your friends to keep you safe, at least enough that you can adjust yourself.

“Okay, nice time is over,” you say and begin releasing your reiatsu and tap into Zilya’s powers. You can practically feel her jumping from joy as you resort to her.

The hollows of course notice this change and spring to action. The panther-hollow and his fanboys are about to jump at you, while Dordoni, Cirucci, Gantenbainne and Lahela are drawing their swords.

“Hanran,” you quietly whisper, and direct the full effect of it towards the group hollows much like some rebellious, misbehaving teens. They freeze up, and you can sense the primal fear in them stirring, paralyzing them. Lahela’s staying strong but still shows signs of fear, despite not being the target of this. Dordoni, Cirucci & Gantenbainne however start sweating.

But among all of them, the panther-hollow keeps fighting back, furiously.

“Aizen called me out to this god-forsaken wasteland for one thing, and that’s to make arrancars,” you say as you take slow steps towards the group, and draw your zanpakutō. “So I'm making arrancars, not waiting around for you to get off the fence. Mediate, Naimen no Daiza…”

With only a small rise in power, the release is a gentle breeze at most.

“H-Hah.. that’s.. your… release? How… f-fucking weak…”

“You’re one to talk, while barely standing on your four feet.”

You don’t give him the chance to retort, and place the flat side of the blade on the hollow’s head. Naimen no Daiza draws on his reiryoku, and you feel your mind being pulled in a familiar way, albeit very, very violently.

Despite the fact that you’ve done a lot of work to improve this method of arrancarification on hollows in Soul Society, the only experience that comes close to this was when you entered Drianni’s mind.

Which means, you’re absolutely underprepared for this.

It feels like many, many thousands of souls scream all at the same time, in a maddening cacophony that puts your initial experience with Lahela to shame.

And among all those voices, a single one screams in pure rage.

“WHERE ARE YOU, YOU BITCH?”

“COME HERE, I’LL ANNIHILATE YOU!”

“I WILL NEVER ACCEPT ANYONE RULING OVER ME!”

The few glimpses that you manage to get past the thick veil of chaos, pain and resentment is that of a village hunter… from a long time ago. The strongest, the fastest, the best. Then soldiers clad in iron, carrying a pole with a red and gold flag and an eagle statue mounted at the top, invading his home.

“S.P.Q.R.”

“He’s reliving memories from his life,” you realize. Perhaps a byproduct of the fear you instilled in him, or perhaps it is his perpetual state, but you’ll have to work with this. On top of thousands of souls screeching and trying to drag you down.

Every time you try to examine something, a momentary horrified face steals your attention and has you all paranoid of your surroundings.

Just dominating him would weaken the rebellious power that he clearly possesses, despite Zilya begging you to do it. No, you want to take a look deeper inside, see what makes him tick, and try to find something to build off of.

“YOU’LL NEVER TAKE ME!”

The dark-haired youngster with incredible physique continues to shout as he swings a sword through the Roman soldiers. Their corpses however vanish into black smoke, among which you can see faces, and reform again some distance away, only to charge again, as a never ending battle royale.

You jump into the fray and fight them off with your sword, but have to lock swords with this man first.

“You shit.. THE FUCK DID YOU DO?!”

“I’m not your enemy here!” you shout and push his blade aside, and start hacking at the soldiers. “So this is what you have to do to stay an Adjuchas?”

He doesn’t answer and instead focuses on tearing apart soldier after soldier.

“Why do you fight? Why suffer like this for all eternity?”

“Fuck you, that’s why.”

“Spite? That I can understand,” you say as you shoot a blast of Shakkahō into the army. The guy however grabs you by your collar for a moment. “W-What are you doing?!”

“I don’t serve a king, nor ever will. Not that bloody Baraggan, not that bitch Daji Lü, not your pretentious Lord Aizen.”

As you wrangle free and continue to fight the swarm, now back to back, you continue your little exchange.

“Then do it out of spite. Grow, become stronger, evolve. Spit in the face of Baraggan and Daji Lü. If they are alive, that means you couldn’t kill them yet. And once you’re out of opponents, rebel. But be smart about it.”

He doesn’t answer, but he doesn’t shift the focus of his violence towards you, which is a relief. But fighting these thousands of souls trying to drag him and now you into their mass is becoming very quickly very tedious.

“You… what are you aiming at?”

You swipe some sweat off your forehead. “I want you to fight to your heart's content.”

The rush of power and a pull back out of the mind leave you disoriented for a moment, but you quickly come back to yourself. Before you, naked and on his knees, is the same man you saw, but with his hair discolored in light blue and a hole through his abdomen. His mask fragment is the remains of his right jawbone from what he had as a hollow. A zanpakuō blade lies beside him on the ground.

You only realize now that you two are standing in a sand crater, and the others have retreated to the edges.

“It’s done… Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez,” you say loud enough for the others to hear, and keep your eyes on his. Thankfully, Dordoni comes behind and throws him some clothes.

“Grimmjow!” one of his peers shout, “W-What’s going on?!”

“What does it look like, jackass?” he responds as he gets up, and then eyes the white uniform, and then his two hands, before gripping them tightly. A wide grin appears on his face as he raises his own gaze to meet yours.

“Lord.. Aizen.... is he strong?”

“More than any of us can imagine,” you nod.

“Right, I’ll play along for now... Nakashiri Koharu.”

He keeps just looking at you, not really doing anything, until you have enough.

“Come on, PLEASE put the clothes on!” you say and cross your arms, looking to the side with your face growing more and more red.

“What, never seen an alpha male before? Oh, look at that, I DO have a working dick again!”

“...JUST PUT ON THE DAMN CLOTHES!”

After seeing their leader successfully become an arrancar, his five peers followed suit. Shawlong Koufang, Edrad Liones, Yylfordt Granz, Di Roy Rinker, and Nakeem Grindina. All former Adjuchas with the exception of Nakeem, who was still a Gillian.

Despite their reservations and trying to intimidate you, your use of Hanran has already instilled into them a fear they cannot explain, and so the process is rather simple. Simpler than Grimmjow at least, you still face the pressure of thousands of eaten souls trying to assimilate you. Once the process is done though and they gain a human body, you can see the relief on their faces.

Lahela comes to help you at this point, as look like you're going to fall from exhaustion.

Grimmjow doesn’t give them much leisure though and reigns them in quickly.

“Don’t get too comfortable, dumbasses. We still have to test out these bodies.”

“Well, amigos, I must say I’m surprised. It may even be that we’re looking at a new Espada right now.”

“The what now?”

“The top nine arrancars under Lord Aizen, amigo. A meeting needs to be called first though with the Espada and one of Lord Aizen’s adjutants,” Dordoni explains, “or… you could challenge one of them right away, and win their rank.”

You raise an eyebrow at the last part.

“So if I wanna become the best, I just have to beat the number one, huh?” Grimmjow grins.

You can see Dordoni’s face flush though. “A-Amigo, if you value even a shred of your life, I’d advise against that. The Primera… the combined forces of arrancars wouldn’t be able to stand against even a fraction of his power.”

“Tsch. Sounds like cowardice to me.”

I don’t want to directly encourage fighting Septima with this many witnesses, don’t want people asking why we have a beef with her. But if we can coincidentally toss her under a Grimmjow…

”Good luck finding him. If you do fight, make sure it’s at the Colosseum, I want good seats.”

“The Colosseum?” Grimmjow raises his eyebrow.

“Si, señor. It’s in Vanaheim. The only place you are allowed to battle.”

“Or what?”

“Or you’ll have to take it up with señor Soize, Cuarta Espada, and the full force of Vanaheim.”

“Tch.”

“Just fight at the Colosseum, please. It’d be a shame to lose you due to stupidity,” you nod wearily.

“Huuuuh? Are you calling me stupid?” Grimmjow says with a face much what you’d expect from a delinquent troublemaker teen. “Do you want me to bash your head in?”

“That would be super impractical for the future,” you sigh. He’s flabbergasted at this casual response, but you don’t let him continue with any retort. “Just start with whoever is in the city. Dordoni, who is there right now?”

“Let’s see… I believe the Tercera, Cuarta, Quinta, Septima and Novena Espada are all currently present as of today.”

“Septima? I feel like we talked about her at one point.”

“Si, it’s the defector from Lazuta Yami. She might actually be a worthy foe now that you mention it…”

“So I just gotta find this bitch, off her and take her place?” Grimmjow grins.

“If you don’t wanna wait for that meeting, then yes,” you say as you fight against the urge to smile smugly.

As Grimmjow and his group leaves, you take a deep breath, exhale… and fall down onto the ground.

“K-Koharu!” Lahela catches you quickly enough that the fall is soft enough.

“S-Scary, h-holy crap,” you shake, as the tension and stress exit your body. “Is the difference between regular hollows and menos this big?”

“Señorita…” Dordoni approaches you, a drop of sweat still hanging from his forehead. “The fact that you could reel them in like that is even more scary. I could feel the chill in my bones, and so could these two.”

You take a look at the trio, and see that all of them are troubled. Not even Cirucci is taking advantage of your moment of weakness right now.

“I can see now why Lord Aizen entrusted this task to you. Not only can you turn us into arrancars, but you can… do whatever the hell that was that you did.”

You get up with the help of Lahela, and face the serious Dordoni.

“A-Anyway, we should get you back to the safety of Vanaheim.”

The trio turns around towards the direction from where you came from, but Dordoni’s eyes linger on you for a moment longer, as if he’s considering asking something, before ultimately just letting it be.

“Ahh, to feel the delicious fear of hollows again,” you hear Zilya purr at the back of your head. “It’s quite intoxicating, wouldn’t you agree, my dear Koharu?”

“Shush. I won’t deny that it did feel good to be in control. That’s all you get.”

“Aww, you’re no fun.”

Back in the city of Vanaheim the life of hollows and arrancars continues as normal. You continue to learn more about the city, the residents, and about the ones running the place. Apparently, The Quinta Espada, Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck is mostly the one seen by the residents as the leader of the place, but the more savvy residents, including the owner of the Pizzarea tell you that she is more the public face. The Cuarta Espada, Kaizar Soize is the one in charge and the one actively working on developing the city. He’s also the one that you believe has Shinji’s zanpakutō.

There’s just one problem.

You have no bloody idea where the hell to find him.

Night after night you look, but to no avail. From time to time you take a pause and watch some fights at the Colosseum, including some of Grimmjow’s, where he easily mops the floor with his opponents. You at least let Lahela do her own things and get to know this place, so she doesn’t bore herself to death with trying to find this guy. Who knows, maybe she’ll find something that way too.

Strolling through the city doesn’t give you much either, as the residents mostly keep their distance from you, except some of the children.

And speaking of kids, there’s one in particular that you happen to stumble upon.

White hair, cheeky smile, cocky attitude.

“I hear you’re looking for a certain somebody.”

“What sharp ears you have.”

“I might know where he is,” he says as he whistles.

“Mhm,” you nod and cross your arms. “Well? I assume you want something in exchange.”

“That’s right-o!” he says and gives you the finger-guns, and then takes out a delicious-looking pie with whipped cream on it. “I need you to help me with a prank. Just a simple pie-to-the-face, easy peasy!”

Something deep in your gut tells you that this is NOT going to be as easy as it sounds.

“Alright,” you unfold your arms and put them on your hips instead. “I’ll do it. Afterall, what could possibly go wrong?”

“Sweet!” the boy shouts. “I’ll show you who the target is!”

“You know, I still haven’t paid you back for what you did earlier to me and Dordoni.”

“It’s okay, that stuff’s on the house!”

“I- you- little shit…”

“Careful now, or I won’t tell where he is!”

You are tempted to just outright force his grinning ass to tell you with hanran, but decide against it.. for now.

The boy leads you down a few alleys to something akin to a café, where an arrancar is sitting with a cup of something. Does Hueco Mundo even have coffee? Well, if it has alcohol, you don’t see why it couldn’t have it too. He wears a military cap, but otherwise there’s not many distinguishing features about him that you can see from your vantage point.

“Remember, it has to be directly applied to the face!” the brat explains to you as he hands you over the pie. You consider for a second to just apply it to his own face, but to your surprise, the brat is already gone. You find him overlooking from the roof of the café, giving you a thumbs-up.

You sigh deeply. “Alright, I guess I really am doing this… That brat better go through with his promise.”

You approach the man casually from behind, and then tap him gently on his shoulder.

“U-Um, excuse me..”

“Hmm? Yes?” his blue eyes momentarily shift down to look at your zanpakutō and then back at you. You realize that you only have a few seconds to do this.

“I have a special delivery for you, from a fan.”

As he takes it though, you release the Seki spell that you held onto, and it launches the pie right into the guy’s face.

And then it explodes.

You start to back away awkwardly with your hands in the air as the whole street stops to look at what’s happening.

“OH GOD I’M SORRY,” you wave your hands. Damn that kid, it was supposed to be a harmless prank! “A-Are you hurt?”

As the smoke clears, the guy is menacingly walking towards you, and you can feel the slow but sure rise of quite a menacing reiatsu. He looks completely uninjured, with only bits of the pie, that you now recognize as shepherd’s pie of all things, stuck to his face.

“Come into MY home…”

He takes another step and wipes off his face with a handkerchief.

“Feed me BRITISH food…”

Your back reaches the wall as you can’t back away no longer. When you turn back to look at the guy, you swear you can see a black eldritch horror shadow looming behind him as it gets harder and harder to breathe.

“And dare ASK for forgiveness?!”

“WAAAAAAAAAH, I’M SORRY, I’M SORRY!”

You run away as this man chases after you with great speed, his barely-missed punches destroying chunks of the ground and walls that he hits instead.

“Verdammte Touristen,” he grumbles as you narrowly duck under a kick. You manage to hide behind a building for a moment to catch your breath, and find the white-haired brat on the opposite building roof.

“Great job, apprentice! What a ‘splosion!”

“I don’t know if I hate you more or myself for listening to your asinine plan!”

“That sounds like a ‘you’ problem to me. Was your fault for jinxing it with the ‘what could possibly go wrong’ part.”

“Okay, fine, WHATEVER, now tell me where he is!”

In response though, the brat just points behind you. “You already found ‘im! Adios, amigo!”

And then the wall just beside your head breaks apart, revealing a clenched fist.

“You won’t get away.”

“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE” you shout and continue your escape as you breathe heavily. You can already see that you won’t last stamina-wise.

“I’M REALLY SORRY MR. SOIZE, IT WAS THAT BRAT’S IDEA!”

“You should’ve known better than to listen to him.”

“Oh, COME ON!”

Not long after you just stop at one of the roofs.

“Oh, you finally stopped?”

You turn to face the man, who now speaks in your own native tongue.

“It doesn’t make sense. You’ll outrun me eventually, and in the process the city will get damaged,” you say as you try your best to catch up with your breath. “I messed up, and I’m not going to put this place in danger because of it.”

Kaizar pockets his hands and walks closer and closer, your heart beating harder with every step. Seriously, how did you end up pissing off the one person you were supposed to befriend?

“You silly shinigami,” he says and pats you on your head, and you feel the spiritual pressure alleviate.

“E-Eh? D-Does this me-”

But before you finish that sentence, you get bitch-smacked so hard that you fly to the neighboring roof.

“IT HUUUUUURTS!” you cry and hold your hands against the reddening cheek.

“Consider that the first part of your atonement.”

“T-The first part?”

“Yes. This is far too weak of a punishment for,” he says and spits to the ground, a piece of the pie flying out with it, “for making me taste something so horrible.”

“B-But what about the brat?! He’s the one that came up with this idea!”

“Foolishness, do not place the blame on my precious grandson.”

“G-G-Grandson?!”

You shake uncontrollably as you see his hand reach out towards you with a menacing laugh…

Dishes. Stacks of plates and especially glasses. So much dirt.

From shinigami to dishwasher, you really don’t know how such a demotion is even possible. You tried to bring up the Aizen-card to make him reconsider things, but he didn’t care at all, only saying that he’d free you if he’d get the order personally. But if you force his hand, you doubt you’ll get a positive response once you ask for Shinji’s zanpakutō.

So until things are better, you’re stuck in this predicament.

“Benne, benne,” you hear the hearty voice of Pesci, the hollow that owns the Pizzarea, and coincidentally the person you’re working for now. “This makes my life so much easier!”

“Ugh,” you groan as you scrub the dishes with a sponge. Not only this, but you’re going to have to serve the tables, and the owner decided it’s a good idea to give you a waitress’ outfit.

“Oh don’t be grumpy, it suits you!” the bulky arrancar nods. “What a pleasant surprise that you are about the same size as the previous assistant!”

“W-What happened to them?”

“She quit. What else could’ve happened?” Pesci asks in a genuinely surprised tone. “Anyway, thanks, Boss. This will give me so much more time now to finally make some renovations!”

“Don’t worry about it, just make sure he doesn’t slack,” Kaizar says as he leans against the bar with a glass of rum in his hand. Both you and Pesci pause for a moment.

“B-Boss, surely you mean…”

“I know what I said. I’ve seen plenty of his type in Berlin before the glorious days, before we got rid of them.” Kaizar looks upwards at something above the bar that you don’t see from way back behind in the kitchen, and then downs the drink. “Anyway, I’ll leave it up to you, Pesci. Bye!”

Pesci’s head slowly turns towards you, and you quickly continue to wash the dishes, ignoring the cold shiver.

“Mamma mia!”

Nights pass and one by one, you have to explain the situation to those you know. First off is of course Lahela, who is just happy in general that you are safe and sound. Then Dordoni, Cirucci and Gantenbainne visit, and boy are they a handful. Dordoni you have to constantly kick away so he keeps his lecherous hands to himself, and with Cirucci you have to deal with her foul mouth ridiculing you as much as possible. At least the orange afro-man leaves you alone.

The foul-mouthed gang of four women are pretty much regulars at the bar, getting pizza and drinks, and almost every single time, the white-haired brat steals a slice from them. At least you’ve learned that his name is Dante, as one of the girls especially shouts his name in an oddly motherlike way. Weird.

To pour even more salt into your wounds, Grimmjow of all people checks out the bar just when you happen to be there, and laughs straight at your face.

“THIS is what’s become of you? A bargirl? Hah, worthless!”

“Shut up, grim Joey.”

“What did you call me?!” he says and reaches for your collar, but stops as he notices that absolutely everyone stops to look at him in a deep silence.

“Tch, it’s fine, it’s fine! I ain’t hurting nobody here, get back to your bloody drinks.”

“Now, if you’re not gonna order anything,” you sigh, “I’ve got enough on my plate. Have you gotten any proper fights yet?”

“No, only a bunch of weaklings. I did manage to get that braindead fucktard manager to get me a fight with one of the Espada… I forget who it was. For the title of course.”

“I-I sure hope it wasn’t a low number, for your sake.”

“I don’t care, I’ll fuck them up regardless.”

You sigh even deeper. “When is it at least? I wanna see.”

“Tomorrow. Later, wuss.”

Aaaand he’s gone.

After finishing a large stack of plates and glasses, you let out a huge groan of relief.

“At least this isn’t paperwork. Poor Momo-chan’s probably flooded by it, Aiko-san better help her out.”

“Oh, you’re done! Good! I got something!”

“Oh god, more work?”

“Relax, just come here,” he says and motions you to walk over to the counter, where you see two plates of really delicious looking pasta.

“Y-You see, I normally cook for hollows… aaand I really don’t know if this works for shinigami. It is purified of souls though!”

You cautiously look at it, then look for chopsticks, realizing there’s none. “Umm… how.. how do I eat this?”

“Goodness gracious, you’ve never eaten pasta? Here, look-”

Pesci proceeds to show you how to use a fork and a spoon to eat the pasta, and as you consume the dish, you find it to be absolutely amazing.

“H-Holy shit..”

“Ah, so it is tasty for shinigami too? That’s a relief!” he laughs and eats it himself.

Thinking about this, you haven’t exactly eaten food of this quality even as a shinigami much. Sometimes Captain Aizen or Emika have treated you to the more fancy foods of the afterlife, but it’s always quite refined. This however, is just pure, strong deliciousness.

How fucked up is it that the hollow realm has better food and access to it than the damn Soul Society?

“Once you’re done, you’re free for today. You did wonderful.”

“Wh- really? You’re not going to work me to my death?”

“That wouldn’t be very good now, would it? I need you fine and healthy!”

“Huh…”

This is definitely not something you expected. Well, you ARE kinda happy you’re not put into Shinji’s work conditions.

Seriously, it's not like Kaizar is on our hit list or anything. We could absolutely bro it out with him as long as he isn't an asshole to Lahela or our other friends.

Tangential thought, we should ask someone about the current titled hollows, see if we can slip in questions about Zilya or Drianni. I know Zilya's title was "the Ruin". I forget what Drianni's was though. Would be interesting to hear if Drianni might have some old enemies still floating around or if they all got replaced by the new crop. “This pasta… I didn’t even know this kind of food could be made here,” you say as you finish swallowing some of it. “Hell, I can’t say Soul Society has anything this good and easily available. Kind of depressing, really.”

“Mamma mia, such flattery! I have a lot of pride in my cooking, you know!”

“Where do you get all the stuff for this though? I don’t believe it was easy.”

“Why, all home grown of course, from the very soil I ploughed and the seeds I sowed!”

He stares at you with a cheeky grin, before it kind of deflates.

“...Is what I’d like to say. Yeah, this place ain’t the garden of Eden. Boss sure made a lot of advancements, and I do get a lot of ingredients from here, but I still have to rely on getting many things from the human world.”

“Wh- You shop in the human world?”

“Not in that way, silly. I take the reishi counterparts from them. Got a special glove from doc so I can do it in peace.”

“Huh, neat. Can I have the recipe?”

“For sure! D-Do.. you cook yourself?”

You look elsewhere as you scratch the back of your head. “E-Eh… not really, buuuut I guess I could start learning?”

“Bene, bene!” Pesci claps his hands. “If you do, I could serve so many more customers! So to make this dish...”

You laugh awkwardly as you realize that you might’ve just put more work for yourself on the table. He explains to you how to make the rather simple dish, Cacio e Pepe, a parmesan cheese spaghetti dish, seasoned with black pepper. Easy enough to remember, but you’re pretty sure you’ll have accidents in the kitchen if you try it on your own. Now that you think about it, Chie-chan really did make you every single lunchbox after she realized you didn’t know how to cook and lived alone.

“Right! Whatever I can do to make amends to Mr. Soize! Speaking of him actually, ugh, I can’t believe I got off on the wrong foot with him.”

Pesci chuckles. “Eh, his grandson Dante is a mischievous kid. It would’ve been a miracle if you didn’t get fooled.”

“How do I get him to like me? Actually, scratch that. How do I make him not hate me?” you ask as you take your and Pesci’s plates and cutlery to wash them.

“Don’t worry so much. Boss doesn’t hate you, he’s just a very pragmatic man. You gave him English food? Now you clean dishes and make food. Had you actually tried to do something bad, the punishment would be much worse.”

“R-Right,” you say as you remember Shinji’s contraption. “So, theoretically, if I make him a German dish, that would make him like me more? Maybe alleviate the punishment?”

Pesci just laughs. “You can try, gi-... bo-... shinigami, but if you try to suck up to him, he’ll just make you work more. Just give him time. He comes here when he can as well for a few drinks, after I close up. Stay after the work hours, and maybe you’ll get to talk to him. If he’s in a good mood.”

Yeah, I get it,“ you sigh deeply.

You can see him hesitating with something. “Excuse me but… are you… really..?”

“What do you think?” you say and peek over your shoulder as you finish washing. “Want to check?”

“W-W-Well, I wouldn’t doubt Boss…” he says as he sweats profusely.

“Well there you go. Why was he so serious about it anyway?”

“Boss and I, uhhh, we’re from such times. You know, Italy and Germany, 1930’s…”

“...Oh. I- uh, right.”

“But hey, at least your land was allied with us!”

You blink a few times, and are about to say something, but decide to not tell Pesci about Italy’s history.

Lahela: How are you liking being outside the Soul Society forest (forgot the name), make any new friends, enjoying your time Koharu and his new outfit?

So after shitting my guts out twice, I'm still somehow alive, albeit quite weakly. At least I'm not in a state of constant suffering, so MAYBE I can think straight tomorrow, which could mean me managing to write an update. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the well-wishes, they gave some much needed positivity.

In the mean time if you have some ideas or plans on what you'd like to accomplish in Hueco Mundo, do post/discuss, it'll help me write towards them in the long run.

Making sure Lahela finds some friends here. Laughing at Grimmjow getting stomped by Uno. Messing with spiderbitch (the copycat, not OG). Exploring Zilya’s former realm. Make more arrancars with Celaris’ influence.
Hollow kingdom run by Drianni in Zilya’s old realm. Zilya’s pet turned into a guard dog. Possibly launching a preemptive countercoup against Aizen before he inevitably turns us into the SS as a power-hungry hollow-sympathizing despot. Though that can come on a later trip.

Just small things, y’know? Take a week tops, then we can chill with Akane and have fun setting up anime love triangles between us, Akane, and Lahela.
>>

Off the top of my head, finding out more about spider lady’s old realm and setting the groundwork for conquering it for ourselves, probably using it as a testing ground for social and infrastructural changes that we could implement in Soul Society. Covertly expanding Koharu’s influence throughout Hueco Mundo, starting with that one spider hollow we met earlier. Getting Koharu to be more confident and less scared. Having fun with Lahela. Training
>>
>>4928279
Besides the exploring/reusing Zilya's old grounds and Lahela socializing the others mentioned, maybe get an arrancar/Espada not named Grimmjow to be on our side and find Zilya's perfect child. Not really a plan, but I want to keep Jorogumo hidden until we can get our hands on Septima

"It's uhhh, okay, I guess. Don't know if I can enjoy the attention from lecherous hollows, but... it's not THAT different from that weird fan club in Soul Society. Okay, maybe I do kinda enjoy it. But not a lot!!"
"On the serious side, it's... at times overwhelming, but at the same time kind of familiar. I'm sure Zil has something to do with that. I'm glad Drianni's and Zilya's description of this place was a bit off, an actual forest does make this place bearable. The people... well, that of Azulwald and Vanaheim at least, are actually quite nice, even if I see them restraining themselves because of me. As for my 'job,' it's a means to an end. I don't like it, but if it helps me get on Soize's good side, I won't complain."

You are Nakashiri Koharu, shinigami of the Gotei 13 most of the time, and now a part-time bar waitress at the only pizza-bar in Hueco Mundo.

Yeah, trying to explain that to anyone is going to be a tough one.

The night comes when Grimmjow’s match is scheduled at the Colosseum, the only place in Vanaheim where hollows (and others) are able to duke it out, satiating the bloodlust of countless other hollows at the same time. You manage to get a little bit better seats for you and Lahela through Pesci, but it doesn’t help that you’re not that tall, and are among large hollows. Thankfully, the place has you covered, and the Exequias raise the white stone seats upwards with something kind of similar to kidō. In fact, once you see over the hollows, you notice these same Exequias surrounding the arena, forming a yellow barrier.

Huh, that’s interesting. Something to ask about for sure.

“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!”

The audience grows quickly silent as a low, strong, loud but controlled voice reverberates throughout the Colosseum.

“BASTARDS AND ASSHOLES, SHITHEADS WITH MASK OR WITHOUT! I BID YOU WELCOME TO THE COLOSSEUM ARENA!”

Every hollow around you and most likely in the whole building scream in unison.

“What we have for you today is quite special. You see, some absolute MADMAN has challenged none other than one of the Espada!”

The crowd cheers again, but now you start feeling the rising tension, the thirst for blood. It’s quite unnerving to be surrounded by these monsters, knowing full well that you smell delicious to them, only held back by pure fear and discipline. However, it’s Lahela that is more affected than you.

She’s cheering with them. And you can feel the primal forces inside of her, and see her eyes grow redder. You put your hand on her shoulder, and exchange a glance, that of mutual understanding and support.

>1/5
>>
“FIGHTING, out of the blue corner, is the great panther of the wastes that only recently became an arrancar, the rookie that has seen no equal match yet in this arena… GRRRRRRIMMMMJOOOOOWWWWWW JAEGERJAQUEZ!”

The crowd explodes in a crazed cheer as the arrancar emerges from one end of the arena. You don’t know if this is normal or not, or if being actually inside the Colosseum is this much more intense than walking beside it, but shit. Zilya and the hollow part of you resonate with these and even you can feel your heartbeat rising and getting excited for violence.

Grimmjow just keeps his hands in his pockets and walks just a bit hunched over. His eyes are not on the crowd, and instead aimed directly at the opposite end, from where another figure emerges...

“FFFFFFIIIIIGHTIINNG, out of the green corner, none other than the grand champion of the Colosseum, with a nigh-unbroken record, the menace of upstarts, Sexta Espada…. NNNNNNNNNNOITTTRAAAAAAAAAAAAA GILGAAAAA!”

If you thought before the crowd was going berserk, now they’re going into a full on frenzy. The man that emerges is incredibly tall and lanky, comically so. His outfit is even more ridiculous, with a weird overblown spoon-like hood. All that pales however to his zanpakutō, a giant axe-like weapon bearing two crescent moon-shaped blades fused together at the backs, along with a chain connecting it to his waist.

“Fuck off, you weak pieces of shite,” he shouts at the crowd with an unnaturally wide grin plastered on his face. The crowd is just riled up even more. Interestingly enough you can’t see any mask fragments on him, though his left eye is concealed with a large white eyepatch.

“So this is the upstart punk that thinks he can beat me, huh?”

“That’s right, bitch. I’ll be taking that number off of you today,” Grimmjow responds with a malicious grin of his own.

You however frown. Unfortunately, he missed the target you wanted by a number. Closing your eyes to sense the presences around you, you can already say he’s in trouble. While Grimmjow’s reiatsu is like a wildly flaying flame, this Nnoitra guy’s is more like a focused blowtorch. It doesn’t look good.

“Shit.”

>2/5
>>
On top of the muffled reiatsu of the two combatants, you sense a few other strong ones in the audience. In one spot you find three people that you saw return before, Kaizar being one of them. Then there’s one that you haven’t seen before, with a very long neck and a mask that covers his head.

And a little girl, in what you can only describe as a hoodie.

Your attention however is quickly drawn back to the arena itself.

“Combatants READY? FFFFFFFFFFIIIGHTT!”

“Ready for an ass kickin’?” Grimmjow taunts as he starts walking closer.

“I’ll die happy if you can land a scratch on me, punk. Come on, make my day. I’ll even let you have the first shot, for free.”

Grimmjow’s eyes widen with anticipation as he charges at his foe, loading his fist. A lot of shouting is involved, and he hits Nnoitra straight in the face. The crowd falls silent, as seconds pass where Grimmy’s fist is just sitting on Noitra’s face.

It takes a moment to see that Grimmjow’s fist is bloodied and disfigured, and he jumps backwards with a very unsatisfied expression on his face.

And the crowd proceeds to laugh, to add salt to his wounds.

“Huh?” Nnoitra opens his eye, his arms still outstretched. “Come on, the crowd wants to see a fight. Why are you dawdling? Come on, take the first shot!”

“Get fucked!” Grimmjow shouts as he extends his hand. A sphere of red violent energy charges at his palm, and bursts forth towards Nnoitra. However, as before, the attack leaves no mark on his opponent. This must be that Hierro you’ve heard about.

“Jesus Christ. If you’re not gonna start, then I’ll start. Here, I’ll show you how it’s done.”

Nnoitra licks the blade of his zanpakutō with his long tongue, which also has the number 6 tattooed on it. With an ever more menacing grin, he gathers reiryoku at the tip of his tongue.

“Gran Rey Cero.”

A great flash of light blinds you and the rest of the audience, as the beam of pure destruction clashes against the arena barrier, straining it. Multiple Exequias join in to support the barrier from that side.

Once the smoke settles down, you see a bruised and bleeding Grimmjow, with burnt, charred arms in front of him.

The crowd explodes in a mad cheer. Based on what you manage to hear, the fact that he’s not ashes is a big surprise.

“Hooh? Maybe you’ll make for a single drop of sweat afterall.”

Grimmjow breathes heavily, and lowers his burnt, trembling arms. His eyes reopen with a new kind of determination and fury. Just barely, he draws his zanpakutō, and places his other hand on top of it, as if scratching it. The blade shimmers in a blue light, and a ringing metallic sound emerges from it.

“Grind… PANTHERA!”

The transformation kicks dust up into the air again, but another shockwave clears the air to reveal the now transformed Grimmjow, his arms healthy again. This form of his is reminiscent of that of his form as an Adjuchas, but still humanoid.

Nnoitra doesn’t look that impressed, but he seems more excited now, especially once he finds that Grimmjow has disappeared and reappeared behind him. He parries his claw attack with his zanpakutō and his arm.

“Better, but not good enough,” Nnoitra snarls and kicks Grimmjow in his stomach. Grimmy retreats to soak most of the force in the attack, and turns to do a barrage of attacks instead. Once he stops, he is shocked to see that there’s only small scratches on Nnoitra’s clothes and skin.

Nnoitra moves his hand behind his head to confirm that Grimmjow has indeed, cut off that weird Spoon part of his outfit.

“Right. I’ve had enough. Pray, Santa Teresa!”

>4/5
>>
The match doesn’t last long after that. To Grimmjow’s credit, he holds out against Nnoitra’s scythe-like weapons, which multiplied to four, as did his arms. Grimmy learns and adapts well, but for every lesson learnt, he faces four more problems, until it’s enough to incapacitate him. His resurrección reverts, his blade clattering to the ground. He is still standing however.

Nnoitra uses one of his weapons to raise Grimmjow by his throat, the blade drawing blood.

“For a rookie trash, you’ve got some guts, but Jesus Christ do you suck at gauging your opponents.”

With a flick of his weapon, he throws Grimmjow down onto the ground, and reverts his own resurrección, before turning to go back to his entrance.

The crowd cheers frantically, as the announcer ends the match.

“AND SO WE HAVE A WINNER, TO NOBODY’S SURPRISE. NNNNNNNNNOOOOITRAAAAAAAAA GILGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”

Despite the match being pretty one-sided, the crowd is extremely pleased with the match. Grimmjow survived for longer than was expected, and their combined bloodlust satisfied their urges.

As you get out of the spectator area, you sigh deeply. “That idiot.”

“You sseem upsset?”

“Well.. yeah! I didn’t turn him into an arrancar so he can just kill himself like that. I kinda feel… responsible, you know?”

“Like a mother?”

You stop dead in your tracks, and your face grows red as you process just what Lahela just said. “W-W-W-What?”

“That’ss what Drianni ssayss it feelss like! When you’re ressponssible for ssomeone!” she smiles innocently. You give your head a shake to get a clear head.

“N-Not like that, more of a… I don’t know. Like a pet owner, I guess?” you say as you take Lizzy out of your clothes and pat her on the head.

Wonder how hard it'd be to take him aside for training (we could use some ourselves, we haven't fought somebody since we powered up), then discuss him helping Shinji with the Septima gig in exchange for further training from him. Basically get him an in with Visored crowd in case he decides he doesn't like the direction the Espada are going and wants to jet.

He may act all tough (because he is!) but this match shows he can easily be hunted down if he doesn't toe the line. Nnoitra was only number 6, after all.

“Hey, actually, go on ahead,” you say as your thoughts dwell on that idiot.

“You want to look after your pet?”

“...Yes, I want to make sure my investment wasn’t wasted.”

“Okay!” Lahela says as she smiles cheerfully, waves, and then leaves.

“Jeez, what did I do to deserve this kind of teasing?” That question though quickly gets answered on its own when you take a long and hard think.

The Colosseum is built like one of those that you’ve seen in children’s books, detailing ancient Rome. You find Grimmjow in one of the medical rooms below, lying on a rough bed, staring at the roof. The staff don’t pay you much attention, or when they do, they realize just what you are and just steer clear of you.

You find him with his top open, with lots of wounds along his stomach and chest that have just barely closed.

“You look wonderful.”

“Eat shit.”

“Don’t be like that,” you sigh, as you sit on the bed beside. “You definitely know how to pick fights with the right people.”

“Yeah, I do. What about it?”

“You’re an idiot, that’s what. You’ve got to learn how to pick your battles. How did you survive before?”

“Shut up, wuss. I roamed, and I killed, that’s how.”

“Right. That won’t work anymore, not when you’re surrounded by these actual monsters. Simple brute force won’t work anymore, you have to use actual strategy. How’d you end up fighting this maniac specifically?”

“I found the freak, learnt he was an Espada, and I challenged him.”

You facepalm and shake your head. “Gah, hopeless..”

“I did get what I wanted though,” Grimmjow says, as he keeps staring at the roof with some kind of new spark in his eyes. “Now I know how these guys fight.”

Now that’s a surprise.

Training for sure, but it’d be somewhat wasted if it’s too structured. Koharu commented on Grimmjow’s adaptability during the fight, so it seems he’d be best served fighting a variety of opponents and rotating between them frequently. Gives him more space to try a lot of things he’s learning rather than finding one thing that works for an opponent and figuring he’s done learning.
>You need training. And no, not the type where we put you up against someone until you win, the type of training where you fight someone, lose, then have to deal with someone new that you lose to. You seem to get complacent when you start winning, it didn’t sound like the arena was teaching you anything for all the time you spent there.
>I’ll be one of your training partners. Work on finding others who can beat you either alone or with others, and I’ll see if I can find any interesting people as well.
Thinking more and more Shinji would be a good opponent for him, and maybe they can eventually steal Grimmjow. Can’t work on that for real until he’s free, but we’re laying some groundwork by getting Grimmjow to behave as a student instead of a master.

“Sure, you saw what he did today,” you say with a sigh. “But there’s more of where that came from. What you need is proper training.”

Grimmjow just laughs. “Training? The shit that these pussies do here at the Colosseum? No thanks, I’ll pass.”

“I wasn’t finished,” you say as you semi-accidentally elbow him in his ribs.

“Y-You… s-shit…”

“I’ll repeat, what you need is proper training. Not the type where you go against someone until you win, that won’t do. I saw you learn in that arena, adapt and grow, when you finally got face to face with somebody out of your league.”

“Yeah, and I’ll use that to fuck him up ne-”

“There won’t be a next time,” you glare at him. “This is what I’m talking about, you seem to get complacent when you start winning or think you have it figured out, I’ve seen your past. It doesn’t sound like the arena was teaching you anything for all the time you spent there.”

“You are an annoying hag, you know that?” Grimmjow groans.

“Save those insults for later, Grimbo. As a matter of fact, I’ll be one of your opponents.”

He looks perplexed for a moment, before starting to laugh uncontrollably, only stopped by the wincing from his wounds reopening.

“W-What’s so funny?!”

“HA! You? My opponent? Your weak ass?”

“Hey, I have a strong ass, thank you very much,” you cross your arms. “And you haven’t fought me even once yet. Don’t let reiatsu alone fool you. Remember, I did make you and your little group heel at my command. Besides, don’t you want payback for that?”

“Damn straight I do,” he responds with surprising ferocity, considering his state. You nod approvingly.

“Grimmjow, don’t be satisfied with beating just those you can see. Fight all and everything, fight and adapt to everyone, until you become king.”

He stares at the ceiling, now with a kind of… contemplative expression? It’s almost unfitting for him.

“...King, huh?”

Days, or rather nights, pass by almost unnoticeably. With perpetual night it’s hard to keep track of time. You spend most of it at the pizzeria, doing dishes, serving orders and even trying a hand at cooking under Pesci’s gentle guidance. Lahela visits often, butting in with the four arrancar girls. Despite them not warming up to her before, she’s slowly but surely finding her way in. Grimmjow’s boys take a peek as well, but they’re still too wary of you to actually get in the place.

You visit the living realm with Lahela once as well, to check up on Akane, Chie and the general state of Osaka. Nothing’s been blown up, hollows are kept at bay, and you briefly get a talk with old man Ishida, the Quincy, who you had asked to assist Akane with protecting the area in your stead.

Before you could hide Lahela, he actually found you and was about to put an arrow through her head before he noticed you. So you had to somehow explain and handle the situation. Something something friendly hollow something learning new things.

“Remarkable,” Sōken says, “I find it hard to believe that a day that shinigami and quincy may coexist will ever come to pass, much less with any hollows in the picture. Yet here we are, a quincy, a shinigami and a hollow.”

“Sounds like the beginning of a bar joke,” Akane says with a laugh. “Thanks for dropping by. It’s good to see that you didn’t get eaten. Yet.”

“I’m just as surprised as you are. Anyway, thanks for keeping the city safe. I owe you one.”

Returning to Hueco Mundo, Lahela remarks that she’s starting to get the hang of travel between the realms. You still get moderately disoriented each time you travel, and this second time in a single day has you swaying a lot.

Pesci ends up giving you a few days off of work out of the goodness of his heart, so you find yourself with some additional time again.

Backing having Celaris help with training then. Zilya needs to stay under wraps unfortunately, Drianni recognized Zilya, others here could as well. Especially since she’s even stronger now.

If we can get privacy, mentioning we can’t bring out our full bag of tricks until Septima is gone could be an option. We can save that thought for later though.

I’m thinking open with Nikai and see how well we hold up, and when we eventually lose we go straight to Celaris? Bankai and Hanran can be saved for a later session, Celaris ought to be a handful for him.

You decide that now is a good time to start that training you pushed Grimmjow into. Finding him isn’t a problem as he pretty much revolves around the Colosseum, but getting him to follow you is a big hassle. Fortunately, pissing him off is just the thing that you need to get him to chase after you.

Finding a good spot for that training is a bit harder. For one, you have to go outside the walls of Vanaheim for this one, but keep it within the vast jungle of Azulwald. Of course, you have Lahela with you for added protection.

Finally you stop at the clearing, and Grimmjow arrives a second after.

“I hope you’re ready for an ass whoopi- who’s this bitch?”

You feel a burst of anger that you haven’t felt before raise up, and instinctively go in front of Lahela. “You shall not talk like that to my precious Lahela!”

“Or else what?”

“It’ss okay, Koharu, I got thiss,” Lahela smiles and lowers you arm. With that same innocent and cheerful smile she draws her breath.

“Oy cunt, talk like thatss to me more and you’ll get fucked beyondss your wildesst imagination!”

You are in utter shock. She even said it with her trademark happy-go smile, but now somehow menacingly. How and when did she learn this? Even Grimmjow seems to be caught off guard by this.

“Lahela… we’ll, uh, have to talk about language. A bit later though. But please refrain from using such words.”

“Oh, okay,” Lahela nods with some confusion. Jeez, she doesn’t even seem to understand what’s wrong.

“A-Anyway,” you recollect yourself and face Grimbo again. “I’ll be your training partner today. Later there’ll be others, perhaps Lahela even.”

“Whatever, bring it on,” Grimmjow grins with anticipation. His lust for blood starts to bleed into the atmosphere, and you find your heart beating faster. “I’m itching to finally let loose on you. Show me what you got, bitch!”

“So rude. You’ll have to earn it though, Grim Joey. Until Septima Espada is out of the picture, you’ll only get half. It should be more than enough for you,” you say with a smug half-smile, as you start to gradually increase your reiatsu, and put a hand on your zanpakutō.

You start out with hakuda and shunpo, your basics against Grimmjow. He definitely prefers to use his limbs for fighting, along with the occasional cero. It’s a shame you can’t return that just yet. As one of you gains an advantage over the other, the other brings more of their arsenal into play, until you both find yourself having released your respective zanpakutō.

“Mediate, Naimen no Daiza!”
“Grind, Panthera!”

You get to properly see his transformation from up close now. While he remains humanoid, his elongated and changed limbs definitely remind you more of that of a panther with sharp claws. No wonder he prefers unarmed combat.

“That’s your release? Pffft, how fucking lame.”

“I’m not finished. Unlike other shinigami, I’ve got a second step to make. Today you’ll get to see one of them.”

Channelling the part of you that is Celaris into Naimen no Daiza, you extend your blade towards Grimmjow and declare with determination:

“Seek out your prey, Kaishigome!”

The transformation is much, much stronger than what you remember from before, with the ground shaking and trees on the brink of being uprooted. The transformation leaves you with an antler-shaped curved blade. All this crowns the piercing emerald-glowing irises in your eyes.

“You finally call me out.”

“It’s about time for you to shine.”

“If that is what you wish.”

This time, Grimmjow doesn’t insult you, but instead is almost trembling from excitement. “Now this is what I’m talking about, let’s fucking go!”

“Then come and get me, Grimmjow!”

“You know what to do?” Celaris chimes in.

“Get his reiryoku, then blast him with homing kidō.”

You can feel Cel nodding approvingly at the back of your head. Fortunately, it’s easy to get him to lock his claws with your blade, allowing it to siphon the necessary reiryoku to facilitate your other abilities. As such, you retreat.

“What’s this, backing off already? I thought you were gonna make me train or some shit.”

“I don’t need to be near you anymore to fight you,” you smile. “That close encounter was just the introduction.”

You dodge out of the way of his charges. To his credit, he does realize that in this situation he needs to close in the distance to you.

“Hadō #4: Byakurai!” you declare, aiming in the general direction of Grimmjow. Blue lightning crackles along your hand and discharges towards him. Applying Nekensaku to it, it homes in towards Grimmjow. While he does dodge the first one, you let loose more and more at angles where instead of hitting the ground, they curve around to blast him from behind as well. Many of them hit, as Grimmjow does not realize in time that the lightning follows him. They bruise him and singe him in various places.

Not enough though to keep him pinned though.

“That's all you got? A pretty magic trick? Let me try one of my own then!”

He cuts his own palm and draws blood. Your eyes widen as you realize what he’s about to do.

“S-Shit,” you curse as you try to figure out what to do. You don’t exactly know any proper barriers just yet, not ones that would be able to take on anything like what you saw at the Colosseum.

“EAT THIS!” Grimmjow laughs like a maniac. Instead of red energy it is now sky blue and even more violent than before.

“GRAN REY CERO!”

As it discharges, you make a gamble by dodging out of the way with shunpo. It leaves you unscathed, while the forest behind the spot where you were suffered a rather critical redecoration. The shunpo leaves you however just enough disoriented from the battle that Grimmjow closes the distance and begins pummeling you with all four limbs.

“HA! Not so tough now, are you?! Where’s that smug bitchy confidence you had before, HUH?!”

You barely keep his blows in check with Kaishigome. Some come through as well and leave rather nasty wounds. Blood stains your white clothes.

“You’re not calm,” Celaris speaks, almost whisperingly.

“How can I be?!” you grumble in your thoughts as your mind races to find a way to turn the tables.

“Breathe. Focus. Predict. Use your senses, that’s always been your forte,” Celaris continues. “Or allow me to demonstrate.”

“WHAT, CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE?!” Grimmjow continues his barrage with a frenzied laugh.

I know I advocated switching his opponent often, but not during the match. If we lose, we lose. If we win, then Celaris can kick his ass even harder later while we take notes.

More tactically, we know we can predict where an opponent will move based on their reiatsu. We did it back in the academy. With Kashigome (and us) upgraded, we should see how much further we can take it.

Treat ourselves like water, and him the container. Move to the places where he is not, and if he lets us move in close then move in close. Violently. Until he closes in defensively and we can’t feel an opening, then we can simply disengage and we switch to homing attacks again.

>>
>>4937985
We’ve gotten buffs from it before, usually only on hard rolls. For something like this, it’ll probably be easier to learn when Celaris takes over? Or Grimbo respects us for putting up a good fight.

In any case, I hope we’re in good enough condition to laugh when this is over. If we gave him trouble now then the next opponent we arrange for him (Celaris) is going to wreck him. Winning would have made that fight even more comical in comparison.

General question though, what is the chance not-our-spiderbitch spiderbitch could also recognize Celaris on top of Zilya? Not something I thought about earlier, but if Septima was around when Zilya was captured then she could connect the dots that way too.

Breathe.

Focus.

Predict.

Use your senses.

With those words ringing in your head, you retreat into Senzen temporarily. Away with distracting light and sound, away with pain. Only your own presence, that of Grimmjow, and the faint background noise of the blue forest.

Grimmjow feels really confident and flows with bloodlust, full of intent.

Breathe. Focus. Predict.

Your eyes reopen with renewed vigor, and you find it easier now to dodge out of the way of his attacks despite not being nearly as fast as him. He remains the focus as if you were still in Senzen, while all other signals fade away. Considering the insults stop and his shit-eating grin fades into an annoyed one, you’re back into this.

“What’s wrong?” you taunt him.

“Your ass, that’s what’s wrong,” Grimmjow shouts as he gets more and more frustrated.

“Why are you so fixated on my ass, jeez.”

“EAT SHIT! CERO!”

The red sphere of energy charges in his palm as he continues to pummel you with the other three, but again, his intent is as obvious as a child chasing after a ball. A flash step is all you need to get out of the way in time. The forest takes another blast of damage, though this time not as bad as with the Gran Rey Cero.

“Good,” Cel speaks softly in your head. “You still have his reiryoku.”

“My kidō isn’t strong enough… unless I incantate it,” you realize. “At the same time as I have to predict his moves.”

“I believe you youngsters call that ‘multitasking’ nowadays.”

The problem for him is he's used to brute strength vs brute strength matches. But with opponents like Koharu, he's out of his comfort zone. He has an advantage in speed against you, but you managed to get reisenken rolling and now that he can't get a proper hit in renders him at a disadvantage. Before he was rolling against your Defense and Mobility, now he's rolling against your Mental, which is quite higher.

He doesn't really know how to make use of his own abilities yet either, being a pretty recent arrancar. He still lacks years of experience and grinding against the other Espada

There’s a brief exchange of looks as you’re up in the air, standing on reishi pads, while Grimmjow is looking up from the ground. Saying he looks pissed would be an understatement. The moment of silence is broken as you begin shooting volleys of Byakurai at him, which he is starting to know how to dodge. But they serve as a distraction, as you send enough of them to curve and follow Grimmjow to distract him like annoying flies. Despite him gunning for you and getting multiple times in range, you focus on the incantation.

"Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south!"

You recite the incantation, and charge the red energy in both of your palms. And just as Grimmjow approaches you with an attack with his claws, you slide in and put the palms against his chest, just above his hollow hole.

“Hadō #31: Shakkahō!”

The beam of intense, blazing red fire crashes against the iron skin that arrancars all seem to possess, and Grimmjow is launched fast towards the ground. He crashes into the disturbed ground from his Gran Rey Cero, and dust is kicked up into the air.

You breathe heavily as your arms tremble. Both of your hands are badly burnt from a point-blank shot. Letting the reishi pads disappear, you let yourself fall down to the ground and drop to one knee. The existing injuries are now properly taking effect on your body, with the adrenaline and numbing going away.

“Is that it?”

Your eyes snap wide open as you hear his voice. You see his shadow in the dust cloud, and when he finally comes out of it, you truly start feeling fear.

Despite having a piece of his chest burnt and boiled, blood flowing down his mouth, his bloodshot eyes are still fixated on you, like that of an unyielding predator.

“I-It’s over!” you say, bringing your hand up just barely to fire another Byakurai, but the pain inhibits you just enough that it fails to launch.

>1/2
>>
He takes a step towards you. And another. And another. Until he stands right in front of you.

You can feel the full extent of his intent to hurt you. To kill you. His hand slowly makes its way towards your throat.

“Entangle, Ssadkheu!”

Countless vines sprout around you like a shield, and others entangle Grimmjow, locking him in place. You see Lahela’s back as she appears between you and Grimmjow. What alarms though is that you can feel that same killing intent in Lahela.

And then you notice one vine right beside her forming a spike of yellow energy around it, aimed at Grimmjow.

“LAHELA NO!”

“HE HURTSS YOU!”

“It’s okay! It’s just training!”

She doesn’t listen and throws the vine, but the few words in between game Grimmjow enough time to break the vines crushing him.

“COME ON, I’LL KILL YOU BOTH! I’LL KILL YOU ALL!”

“I WON’T LETSS YOU!”

It’s like you’re seeing things happening in slow motion now.

“Look at them go,” Zilya laughs. “Would be soooo amusing to watch them tear each other apart… but I know you want them to stop. You know what to do, Ko~ha~ru~”

“No,” you whisper.

You can straight up feel Zilya’s confusion, which then quickly turns to anger.

“I won’t resort to you and your barbaric ways… yet. Celaris?”

Lahela’s and Grimmjow are about to hit each other with their respective attacks, just milliseconds away.

“Take over for me, will you?”

>...

Είστε ο Σελαρισ, ένας από τους πέντε που πιάστηκαν… α, αυτό έγινε στο παρελθόν.
You are Celaris, one of the five caught by… ah, that’s way in the past.

Shirojika-no-mikoto is the last name that held strong meaning to you, before you became part of the Tamaki line, and before returning as Celaris to Koharu.

You stand between these two hollows that Koharu has taken a liking to, using his burnt hand to stop Lahela’s vine, and Kaishigome to block Grimmjow’s claws.

“Enough with this foolery, you two,” you state. Golden horns of energy form from your head; a bright, sun-like aura emanates from you which mesmerizes the two. Seconds pass, their faces soften, and their respective resurreccións revert back into their zanpakutō. Despite this however, the blue-haired punk snaps back to attention as he realizes what has happened.

“I ain’t done yet…!” he gasps for air, as the damage to his chest and thus lungs is starting to properly take effect.

“I know,” you turn to face him completely. “But you are done for today, as is Koharu. You will rest and heal.”

“O-Oh yeah? And who the fuck are you?!”

“Somebody you’ll get to face one day. But it is not this day.” You take slow steps towards him. Despite his wrangling, your burnt hand touches his forehead, and you cast a spell you haven’t uttered in a long time.

“Anaísthitos.”

And he slumps onto the ground, asleep. You turn your gaze towards Koharu's friend, the one that brought you to this land of evernight.

“Lahela, is it?”

“Y-Yess?”

“Take us to somebody that can heal, would you?”

And so you retreat back into the depth of Koharu’s soul, letting his friend catch his body.

This is where we’ll end this part and this thread. I’ll update the character sheets and social links this week as well, since you got to meet a lot of wonderful people (and pissed some off)! Questions, comments, and all are welcome of course as well.

Next thread is set on next week’s monday (9th) if all things go well. Do remind me if my brain is forgetting something, it's definitely out of sync right now
>>
>>4945555
Eh, question for Celaris I guess
>Were you tempted to spend longer in Koharu’s body to speak with Lahela? You’ve been starved of other company for quite some time after all.

For other anons, do we think it’s worth bringing Grimmjow into the conspiracy for killing Septima? I can try writing up a pitch that lets him know that we’re looking to take someone out, it’ll put him on some important people’s shit lists if we fall out of favor with them, but in exchange we can take our remaining gloves off and also make him our main training partner for the meantime. If he turns us down, no harm done, it’s certainly safer to stick with his current path.

I’m expecting the “safer not to join in” bit will have some reverse psychology going on, but it’s the truth.
>>
>>4945631
I think it might be necessary actually, no one will be too upset if a hollow takes responsibility for killing another hollow, compared to a shinigami killing a hollow. It’ll increase Koharu’s influence on Grimmjow
>>
>>4946070
*It’ll also
One day I’ll remember to actually triple check my post before posting
>>
>>4946070
Not thinking he’ll be able to take credit for it. I doubt he’ll be allowed to kill an Espada in the arena, and fighting elsewhere is illegal.

Here’s my shot at the pitch. It’s wordy. Feel free to cut/add suggestions wherever.

>I have an offer for you. I need you to listen for once because accepting means possibly ending up on the shit list of people way more powerful and clever than you or I.

>You’ve fought me seriously now, and you’ve met one side of my zanpakuto. You also know I’m still holding back on you, because I never used the trick I did in our first meeting. And I’m not going to, because using it to openly is going to get people I care about killed.

>See, I know one of the Espada wants me dead. They don’t know they want me dead yet because I’ve been hiding those powers.

>I can’t kill them myself. They’re an Espada, an underling of Lord Aizen, same as me. They couldn’t kill me either for the same reason, and even if they tried I might be able to take them on. But the same protections don’t extend to friends like Lahela. They will hurt, torture, kill them, just to get at me. And I can’t stand for that.

>So I need them dead. Not beaten, not cowed, not compliant, dead. And I need others to do it. I am asking if you’ll be one of those people.

>You could try doing the deed in the arena, but I don’t think they’d let you kill an Espada there. Beat them, sure, but not kill. So I don’t think you’ll get any glory here since you’d need to do this outside normal channels.

>What you would get is me. Once they’re out of the picture, I’m unshackled. I plan to do things here that’ll more than compensate Aizen for the loss of an Espada. And I could use a partner to test my full range of powers on. When you see them, you’ll understand why I can’t ask anyone in the Soul Society to train them with me.

>Now, the consequences. I’m a piece in a battle between Aizen and others. I agree with his end goals, but not the means, and he knows this. If I grow too strong, he may decide I’m better off dead than possibly against him. And since you’d be close to me, you’d be erased as a precaution. It’d hurt, but he can afford our loss.

>So there you have it. Help me kill someone, I’ll make you stronger, and you’ll end up with a big sword hanging over your head. I’m arranging for help on this, someone powerful you wouldn’t otherwise work with, so you have an in with another circle to fight in too.

>If you say no, there’s no change. I’m moving forward with my plans, and if things blow up between Aizen and I later then you’re free to switch sides and join me. I know it’s not personal. If not, you’ll probably just keep fighting in the arena until you’re an Espada. It’s certainly the safer option since you won’t earn any big enemies there.

>Think on it. I’m in a hurry, but I’m stuck waiting on opportunities. They’re all not going to happen in a few days.
>>
>>4946461
Second post because I hit the limit.

I’m being somewhat transparent with Grimmjow on the assumption he won’t turn us over if he says no to our proposal. He’s no bootlicker, and he won’t have an issue with us killing someone powerful so we can grow our own power. He’s all about fighting and dominating.
>>

>>
Time for our threadly BTL check.
>>4946461

I fully admit to being biased towards transparency if I think the odds of it backfiring are low re: spilling the beans to Drianni long ago. People trust you more if you knowingly tell them things that can be turned against you. While I wouldn't want to announce it to everyone, Grimmjow doesn't seem the type to spread info about us around as a form of payback. He'd try to kill us instead. Much easier to deal with!

I think Zilya is the one that wants to do the murdering since Septima betrayed her brood to join Aizen and having the gall to want to take over her land. But I also have a mind to tell Zilya to go fuck herself if she wants to keep Septima alive to suffer after we beat her down. The moment Septima realizes we're walking around with Zilya's powers, a lot of our friends (Akane, Chie, Lahela, the arrancars in Drianni's forest) become targets. And Zilya seems to understand wanting to protect her brood, even if I think it's only because she saw hers as extensions of herself.

Mama Koharu is protective of her children friends!

Urahara: So fat that a dozen Gillian can dance on it
>>
Hokay, social links updated, character sheet is still pending as I'm not sure if it even has anything new to add. Let's see- holy smokes! Love the discussion!

Let me take this piece by piece

>Celaris: Were you tempted to spend longer in Koharu’s body to speak with Lahela? You’ve been starved of other company for quite some time after all.
"I won't deny that I was tempted to do so, but Koharu's health comes first. I'm sure there will be a better time for such things. Some... company would do me well."

>Time for our threadly BTL check.
For the whole thread I'd say a 7/10. Poking Joey might earn you a poke back :^)

>How fat is Koharu's ass?
Trippy: "What you'd expect of a thin femme boy. Give it time though and Zil's/Cel's influence might kick it up a notch.
Celaris: "Well-shaped and fit, the best for... n-nevermind."
Zilya: "Absolutely pathetic, needs more substance. How he managed to seduce others with it baffles me."
Akane: "W-What? I- Uh- It's... average I think?"
Chie: "About 33 inches last time I checked, why?"
Hisashi: "Just right. Wait, why do you ask? H-HEY-"
Junichi: "Ask Hisashi."
Emika: "What a strange question. Plump?"
Yukiko: "Clearly inferior to my noble backside."
Izumi: "Fufufu, just right for a fat d- G-GIVE ME BACK MY DOUJIN!"
NKFC: "PERFECTLY SO!"
Aizen: "Tactically so."
Urahara: "Amusingly so!"
Drianni: "...Humans are still fixated on such things? Truly, some things never change."
Lahela: "It'ss very fat! ...That'ss a compliment, right?"
Lizzy: "KEKEKEKE!" (The basement is quite spacious!)
Dordoni: "Hombre, that's such an improper question. It could be fatter."
Kaizar: "That's a man's ass, and you're gay."
Pesci: "Good thing Doc's clothes adjust to fit."
Grimmjow: "It's gonna be very fat once she tastes my fists! What?!"

That's at least some that I got off the top of my head. Let me know if I missed some key ones

Aw, I was hoping to trip Yukiko up.

I wonder how many of the SS people answered in canon due to the NKFC asking around.
>>

Looks like Koharu’s a bit lacking, nothing an ass training montage and a timeskip can’t fix. Also I believe you’ve forgotten the most important person to ask, Koharu

i like where this is going

So I take that Celaris has rather Greek interests then.

Damn, what a ride. I still need some time and rereading to properly digest it. I'm not sure yet how to interpret the ending. But very nice!

I mean, I KIND of see it, given that I got to a somewhat similar conclusion when I went through the worldbuilding for this quest, but I'm not going to spoil any more about that, I want you guys to find out on your own

Okay, so after a lot of thinking, stressing out, and today a mental breakdown, I've decided that I need this month off. I need to figure out what I'm going to do with uni, master's thesis, work, and life. The stress is enough that I feel like it'll affect the quest's quality, and thinking about the quest makes me procrastinate on the aforementioned things. On top of that I'll be one and a half weeks away making my shaman drum, which means no electronics.

I'm sorry, but I feel like this is the best choice here. You can still get in touch with me through twitter or discord (qtg or king's) if you need to during this time. Hopefully once I have everything sorted, we may continue once I return at the beginning of September as uni starts. Full of new energy and spirits.

Thanks for understanding
