The Grail War continues, but you're taking a day off, and are about to attempt to host a tremendously ambitious feast!

You are Shinji Makiri, Ten years ago you suddenly found yourself with the memories of a complete past life that saw this world as a fictional story due to some unprecedented form of inter-dimensional transportation. Since that day, your new composite being has been working to change the grim future laid out for you.

To that end, you have done much, involving yourself with events and situations that have shifted the future away from the one that you once would have faced and instead onto one of uncertainty and chaos.

The Fifth Holy Grail War lies ahead of you, and the challenge and danger it represents to you, the people you care for and the world itself is far greater than you could have ever predicted. Though the grail might be corrupted and the war itself might be a sham, the stakes couldn't be higher.

But first, there's something that you need to do before you leave to get on with the rest of your planning for this feast. You get close to your beautiful witch wife and kiss her on the lips. Holding her close for a moment before you let her go. "Medea, I need you to head to the kitchen for me, I want you to tell them that if my calculations are correct, we'll be serving upwards of sixty people at the feast I've planned." A truly ridiculous number of people, but... well, this wasn't exactly one of the reasons you became as rich as you did, but your dining hall can at least comfortably sit that many people, though unless you want to rearrange the room to have some grand table for everyone to sit at, they'll probably have to sit around individual tables... "Also, your assistance in the kitchen would be much appreciated. I'll be there to help shortly, if I can find the time. My own schedule is quite busy, after all."

"Understood, Shinji. I'll do my best!" Medea is making a determined expression now, and you smile at her before you leave the room, flicking your phone out of your pocket and sending a text to one of your contacts. 'Need all liquor from at least two stores in a few hours. Don't fail me.' You keep the text short, no use dragging things out. They'll get the message. The clothing you ordered should be arriving shortly too, but that can wait for now. Your phone buzzes as you rapidly receive a response. An acknowledgment that your order has been received and is being followed. Good, that's all you needed.

Now, next on the list is... 'Medusa, where are you right now? I want to see you and your sisters.' You activate the Tamamo sticker on your hand and wait for a response, you need to actually take care of their charming beauty before tonight, or you need to at least attempt to. There are very few men at the table who would be able to resist the supernatural charm of the two divine sisters. Gilgamesh would likely be able to wield his supreme ego in his favor there considering he's the sort of person who can resist even the beauty of Ishtar's true form, then there's Shirou, who is effectively single-minded in his love for Saber already. Merlin... Merlin by his nature as a being that doesn't truly feel love may be capable of resisting their charm too, though only in theory... Enkidu would also be immune, you wager. Everyone else though...? Probably not going to be good if they lay eyes upon Stheno and Euryale without something to suppress their natural charms.

'Oh, I've set them up a small place to stay in the attic for now, I didn't want to bother you with my problems any more than I already have...' Medusa's response comes quickly, though there's a small amount of relief in the voice that is projected mentally through the sticker.
>>
'I'm going to be heading up to see them in a second, Shishou, could you come as well please? I'd like your help adjusting the Saint Graphs of two goddesses.' You speak to your mentor in magecraft, she's already shown the ability to seal off the ability of one Servant that caused averse reactions from whoever looked at her, so it stands to reason that she could manage the same with an ability that effectively works in reverse, one that spreads love instead of hate. While you imagine that the same sort of feats could be replicated by the other Casters, Touko is the only one who has prior experience doing such a thing... as far as you know.

'Of course.' Touko quickly agrees to help you, there's anticipation in her voice too. Looks like she might be excited at the prospect of being able to examine the bodies of two true to life goddesses. Of course it's exciting to her, the studying of the form of a goddesses may end up helping her make a breakthrough in her own studies.

'Now, can anybody with the ability to create a familiar create something to keep an eye on the magic map so that it doesn't require somebody permanently on overwatch in order to determine if something is happening?' It's a powerful artifact with an immense amount of utility, but without somebody specifically watching over it, it's effectively useless, but nobody really seems to want to remain solely on map duty, and you don't want to force Chiyome to watch the map at all times either. 'For now though, could you watch it again, Chiyome? At least until a familiar is in place.' Still, it's not like you can just leave the map without somebody observing it, it's much too useful to just leave it without using it. The moment that even those who can completely suppress their existences use enough magical energy, even they'll be picked up on it, after all. Chiyome doesn't bother to respond verbally, yet you know from the emotion you feel from her through her link as a Servant that she will follow the order you gave her.

'I suppose I can make something that will keep watch.' Morgan almost yawns as she makes an offer to provide assistance, and you happily accept it. If she thinks she can do so, then you're more than happy to accept her aid.

'OK, thanks Morgan. Now then... Sasaki? Your Master wanted you to help in the kitchen, she's coming as well.' You inform the man that she wants her Servant to help, even though you aren't really sure what sort of use that Sasaki Kojiro will be at helping prepare food. Maybe he can use the Tsubame Gaeshi to perfectly peel potatoes with a single strike?
>>
'Hmm? What's this about a kitchen? Are you going to be cooking?' Tamamo seems to realize just what's going on. 'Then allow me to assist, and show you the cooking prowess of a goddess!' The fox eared girl confidently declares, and you sigh. You don't even bother to respond to that, as there's nothing you can say to dissuade her anyway, nor would you even want to dissuade her. You're sure that she can help in the kitchen, and with the guest list as large as it is, the kitchen is going to need all the help it can get!

With your business through the stickers concluded, you sigh before you head to the top level of your house, and after fussing with a latch for a moment, you cause the stair-ladder that leads to the attic to slide down, just in time for Touko to appear. "Ah! Shishou! There you are! I'm hoping that you'll be able to do for Stheno and Euryale what you did for Betty. The two girls are practically cursed to be unable to live normal lives due to their appearances, so I'm hoping that you'll be able to at least dampen the effects." You tell your teacher just what it is that you're looking to do and why you requested her to help over anybody else.

"I'm glad that you haven't forgotten about me, what with all these Caster class Servants running about." Your teacher smiles wryly. "I don't blame you for being somewhat reliant on them though, in terms of raw power, they've got me outclassed, just like my sister. But when it comes to handling complex concepts, I still believe myself to be superior to all of them..." Touko makes a confident declaration, before apparently deciding that she needs to clarify "At least in some regards, like Spiritual Bodies." You don't doubt Touko's words for a moment, either. After all, this woman is one of the people in the world closest to achieving the Third True Magic, or at least she was, before Illya's goddess metamorphosis effectively granted her the Third True Magic without the Grail War even being required to reach a conclusion. Thanks Ishtar, you stupid bitch!

"I could never forget about you, Shishou. I respect you far too much for that." You really do respect your teacher, and no matter how many Casters you end up recruiting to your side, nor how much experience you gain in the use of magecraft yourself, there's always going to be a part of yourself that will defer to Touko's superior knowledge and experience, ingrained into your being. After all she's the woman who taught you magecraft, and is almost the entire reason why you've reached your level of competence and talent in magecraft. Without her, you'd probably barely be much better at magecraft than Shirou is right now. It's not like you would've had much to go off without a teacher, and it was only because of Touko that you could learn magecraft under Zouken's nose in the first place! "But my sentiment aside, we need to be getting on with this, I have a lot of stuff I need to be getting on with."
>>
With that, you begin to ascend the ladder into the attic, and upon entering the dimly lit room, you... can't see the Gorgon sisters. Or Medusa, for that matter. What you can however see is a candle on a table with a note next to it. You sigh as you walk over to the table and start to read the note.

'Dear Rescuer,

We are bored. So we've decided that we're going to play a game of hide and seek with you! See if you can find all three of us in less than ten minutes, and we'll give you a prize!

Love from S+E, XX'

Seriously? They want you to play hide and seek? What a whimsical duo. Now, the question is should you indulge them...?

>Play fair, look for them normally. (Dice roll required.)
>Use magecraft to find them. It's not cheating if there aren't any rules against it!
>They can stay up here then, it's not like you need them at the feast.

The more this series goes on, the more I become convinced that Counter Guardians don't actually exist, considering how little they actually show up in scenarios where they definitely should have shown up.
Imagine getting powerscaled in relevance before you ever really get to do anything.

Normally, the Counterforce tries to function without directly intervening by pushing certain things to happen.
If that fails though, they send in the nuke squad to just kill everyone the moment before shit truly hits the fan or just slightly after.
Or at least from what I gather.
But then in nu-nasuverse, Dark Sakura consuming half the world is when the Counterforce decides it requires direct intervention from Grand Servants.
So why is Archer so fucking upset about being a Counter Guardian?

So, what are we using on the house's bounded fields then?

Sanctuary was looking like the previous favourite, otherwise Armistice, Truce and Ceasefire are other options.

We'll want a failsafe like this to ensure tonight doesn't turn into a 60 man grail war, and also to avoid outside negative influence
>>
So they want to play hide and seek, do they? Seems like they've looped Medusa into things as well, but that... that will end up being their undoing! While you don't know if it would be nearly as effective on the girls, you know for a fact that Medusa herself, despite having an aloof appearance sometimes, is... pretty bad when it comes to dealing with romantic affections being directed at her. Sure, she could probably tease somebody if she had the utmost advantage, but when it comes to having things turned around on her... Well, she has pretty terrible compatibility against people willing to do that to her. How somebody can both be a seductress type at the same time as having literally almost no self-esteem whatsoever is a true mystery.

"Medusa, are you here?" You start simple, by just calling out the name of the girl. No response. Predictable, but you'll keep trying, you'll just keep on increasing the flirtatiousness until you find her. She won't be able to hold on forever, you know that. "It's a shame that you're hiding from me, I'd love to see your face right now." You call out once again, you feel just a little bit awkward flirting with a girl who is currently out of sight while Touko is standing right next to you, but whatever.

There's a creaking of wood, and you turn your head to look in another direction, uncertain if it was just a natural sound of the house or if it was actual movement of a person upon the floorboards. It was minute, and not enough to properly place a direction. "Wakame-kun, are you sure that this is the best way to go about doing this? You realize that we're both very much capable of finding the girls in about ten seconds if we were to use magecraft, right?" Touko is smoking in your attic now, you didn't even see her light the cigarette!

"I do, but there's no fun in that, the sisters want to play hide and seek, and cheating with magecraft might not be against the letter of the law, but it is very much against the spirit of the law. I'm willing to indulge them for now." You shrug as you continue to walk through your attic. You are however already getting bored of slowly ramping up with the flirts, especially considering that you don't even know if Medusa is in the room, so you decide to go for one that will truly determine whether or not this will work for getting Medusa to reveal her position. "Oh Medusa, how I long to caress you, you are truly a beauty to surpass your sisters, who are nothing but malevolent hags hiding in the skin of children, their beauty is stil-" You stop talking as you twist your head to the side to avoid a thrown book, while it didn't work on luring Medusa out, it seems that you didn't need to. "Gotcha."
>>
You race towards the location the book was thrown from, leaping atop a few wooden crates and standing triumphantly above the three girls hiding in a self-made alcove made of crates and furniture. It looks like they had Medusa build them a den out of all sorts of various junk. Like a nest hidden in the corner of the attic. "Eep!" Euryale falls backwards as you find the girls. Medusa is already laying down, bound in red ribbon and otherwise... completely naked. "What were you thinking?!" She demands an answer from Stheno, who merely shrugs.

"Were you really willing to listen to more of his oafish insults? If I had something heavier, I would have thrown that!" Stheno declares proudly, and you look down at the girls with a deep frown. Then your attention is drawn to the bound and gagged Medusa, who is as red as a tomato... She... probably heard everything you just said.

Most people only disagreed about how much we should tell the little gremlins off.
>>
>>4825226
Let's not go over this again, even you agreed that fight wasn't winnable last time we did. The cost of fighting harder would have been way, way too great for no reason at all.

And who knows? There were plenty of people weary about investigating the weird building with no precautions. If you'd agreed we should contact Medea instead, they might have ended up being the majority. Or we might have still broken our promise and investigated the weird building without your precautions. They didn't change anything anyway.

You take off your jacket and lay it on Medusa's prone form to make it so she's at least a little more decent, and you can see the relief evident in her face as you do. Clearly, she's much more comfortable having been covered up than she was when she was effectively only wearing the ribbons that were lovingly draped and wrapped around her body by her two sisters. Who are looking up at you fairly sheepishly now that you've covered their sister up a little bit. Poor Medusa, you'd think that she would learn to grow a spine and stand up to her sisters at some point, but it seems that even with the boost in confidence that recent events have given her, she'll still concede victory to her sisters if they ask to do something like this to her. The tremendous love Medusa has for her sisters is something that the two girls will happily take advantage of whenever they feel like it would be amusing.

Euryale looks just a little bit worried by your stern unimpressed looking face, but she tries to put on a bold face as she talks. "You... did kind of cheat, by making Stheno lose her temper and throw something at you, but... you won your pr-" You don't let her finish her sentence, cutting her off by grabbing both of the girls by the back of their dresses, and raising them to eye level to look at them. They're light enough that you don't feel any sort of strain in doing this, not to mention that even if they aren't anywhere near as powerful as most Servants, as the two girls are goddesses, they do actually have somewhat improved durability over normal humans. You don't feel bad about holding either of them like this.

"What are you doing to your sister, you odious little gremlins?" You keep your voice cold, though you don't allow your true annoyance to show. You thought that the sisters might've had some sort of epiphany or change of heart, but here they are, treating Medusa just the same as they always would, despite their show of true love for their youngest sister back in Medusa's mental world, they are still treating her somewhat poorly.

"O-Odious?!" Euryale gets angry this time, and starts squirming in your iron grip to try to get loose. Her flailing limbs don't actually do anything though.

"Whatever, Stheno, how about you? Do you have anything to say?" You ask the eldest sister, who still looks grumpy, but then something seems to come to her head, and she obviously deems it more important than the question you're asking them.

"How are you telling us apart so easily?" That's... That's a good question, actually. You hadn't really thought about it, but both Stheno and Euryale are completely identical, and under normal circumstances should be completely impossible to tell apart. But then it dawns on you, slowly at first, but...
>>
"Well, it's likely something to do with the concept I imbued on the two of you, it seems I just... have an inherent ability to realize which one of you is which." It's probably a delayed result of granting a concept to the two girls at the same time with the exact same concept. Despite having done so, you realize just which girl is which now. It's a strange sensation, being able to determine which one is which simply by looking at them. Almost a sort of instinctual knowledge that your body has managed to gain. You'll definitely need to make sure you annoy them with this newfound ability as much as possible.

"That's no fun at all!" Stheno pouts. "But seeing as you did technically win, even if you cheated by being mean and awful to us, we'll tell you what we did to Medusa. See, we noticed that Medusa was obviously attracted to you, so we decided to set something up for her! She agreed to go along with our plan, and so now she belongs to you! You have to get married to our sister!" Stheno manages to remain somewhat smug in appearance despite being dangled in the air.

>"Sure why not? I was probably going to end up doing something like that anyway."
>"That's not how it works, you little shits."
>"We'll talk about this later. Medusa, free yourself, I'm here to make it so these two can walk among everyone else without fear."

It's gachashit with no real message or themes to convey other than "Here's a new waifu/husbando, roll for them, they look just like CHARACTER FROM FATE/STAY NIGHT WHICH YOU ENJOYED MORE THAN THIS GAME."
The protagonist is bland cardboard designed by committee to be as inoffensive as possible as well as irrelevant as possible, with nothing special about them because it's (you)!
Nobody with a modicum of self-respect is going to want to make sakuga for this, and they don't need to.

You're asked to make a multiple hour long animated commercial for a phone game people play when they're taking a shit.
You're saying you wouldn't half-ass it?

I don't know.
When you take a look at the script and what you're actually working with...
It's pretty hard to be passionate about slaving for dozens of hours for something like FGO.
So they just did the bare minimm

It's not a bad studio, if this is a clip from part 2.

I think its unfair to say that the studio doesn't give a shit cause it's gacha shit considering that there are studios out there given the chance to animate absolute classics and well loved stories in the medium like Berserk and Kingdom but they still completely and utterly fuck it up and make it unwatchable

Whales don't mean passion. And money has nothing at all to do with passion on the creators' part.

>>
>>4825915
Eh, trust me, people are passionate about it.
The problem is mostly if the people that did it was or was just not competent enough.
>>
>>4825916
He's right.
Objectively, the consoomer age has killed most semblances of quality entertainment.
You can half-ass your game and make billions.
You can half-ass your established IP and make billions.
Look at Pokemon Sword and Shield.
There's no reason to try because somebody is still going to give you money.
>>
Also, why are you guys so in disbelief that people may have passion for FGO? I mean, there are people with passion for worse things.
I see no impossibility in some people loving FGO and having passion for it.
So, even if its shit taste, its still passion.

I wouldn't trust either with a multi-million dollar movie budget.
>>
>>4825921
>Also, why are you guys so in disbelief that people may have passion for FGO?
Because you're missing the point. People may be passionate about consooming FGO. No one is passionate about making it.
>>
>>4825919
Implying that this was never not the case with entertainment
>>
>>4825924
Do you seriously think its impossible for someone to be passionate about FGO?
Thats just weird, people can be truly passionate about everything.
Some people love the story, others the characters, etc.
Taste is taste.
But whatever.
>>4825926
You can't be sure of that, you dont know everyone.
>>
>>4825927
It wasn't always the case in the fledgling vidya industry.
>>
>>4825927
How far back do we go for that never?

>>4825929
The results speak for themselves. Someone truly passionate would have done a better job, even at a limited budget. But why do a better job, why be passionate when you can put out turds and still make truckloads of money?
>>
>>4825930
When something shows itself to be massively profitable, people will start putting the least amount of work possible in order to generate profits. It's not even true in early vidya since most games near the beginning were arcade games that were purposely made to be hard as fuck so they would eat all your quarters
>>
>>4825890
>with nothing special about them because it's (you)
I never understood this approach. A character without characterization completely kills the mood of anything it play part in. I always prefer protagonist to have meaningful stakes and interests in every aspect of story. This make it much easier to enjoy and empathize with their struggle.
>>4825914
Dystopian Disneyland nation.
>>
>>4825931
But often the problem is less the animators and more of the director and i think its the case for this, because of babylonia.
And i didnt say that people passionate would have to be animators, thats another problem to find passionate people for your project.
>>
>>4825929
>Do you seriously think its impossible for someone to be passionate about FGO?
No, you-
That's not my point.
People love the characters because they love to COOM.
The Story is just dressing for the character designs at this point.
That's how Gacha works.

>You can't be sure of that, you dont know everyone.
I know how the people literally getting paid to make an adaptation of it work.
Lmao.
>>
>>4825936
>I never understood this approach
It makes it easier to self-insert if the protagonist is a bland cardboard with no traits of their own. Who cares about empathizing with their struggle, people want to coom.

>>4825937
I don't understand what your point is then.
>>
>>4825938
What?
>People love the characters because they love to COOM.
What this has to do with some people being passionate? Do you seriosly believe everyone just likes it to fap and shit like that? Are you aware how different people are?
Some people love the story and others the characters, not only for sex.
Seriously, this isnt going anywhere, you guys are weird to think like this, but whatever.
>>4825939
Its more that the QM seem to not believe that some people can love the characters and story without the underline to coom and does think its a masterpiece.
My point is that anyone can be passionate about anything, not anything specific about the animators, i was just theorizing if the animators and in more specific the director had any passion for the project, we can't know that unless with could read the minds of every individual that worked on it.

Also wodime would be a better MC than ritsuka. Fucking anyone on A team would.

You don't seem to be getting the point I'm making here.
I'm being hyperbolic, but it's hard for a creator to get passionate about something where passion wasn't involved in creating the original source material.
It's all designed by committee "Do this our focus group liked this the most." style money making practices.
It's why Muramasa and Castoria are in Chaldea years before their role in the story concludes.
OR STARTS IN CASTORIA'S CASE.

Opposite for me. A proper protagonist is a linchpin that connects you to to story. For non-entity experience I would rather play 4X games. And for self-insert purpose I can easily just turn on my imagination and watch scene unfold live.
I know why they do so from marketing point of view of soulless suits. But I am still baffled just how many people prefer it over proper main character who can make you feel the story.
>>
FGO fans genuinely get mad at you when you call their self insert protag a self insert, it's very funny to see them play with the dictionary definition of the word to try to prove you wrong

>>4825958
I definitely agree with you, I could never get into a story with the protagonist spot intentionally left blank. Nasu wasn't bad at this, once upon a time. Gachashit really is cancer.

As for being baffled at people, many people are dumb consoomers and all they want is to turn off their brain and self-insert. Story is irrelevant. At some point you'll accept it is what it is.
>>
>>4825965
Nasu has some weird to retarded ideas about story and characters that nobody seems to want to tell him that is stupid, so shit like blank MC exist.
To be honest, i feel like making a story with a blank MC without anything going for him is harder than doing it with someone with actual personality.
I guess takeuchi was too occupied sucking nasu's cock to tell him that idea was stupid or he didnt care as he don't seem to care about even his art.

"That's not how it works, you little shits." You tell the two girls with irritation in your tone. Poor Medusa getting roped into her sisters schemes doesn't deserve this at all. You know the girl couldn't possibly bring herself to say no to her sisters for long, even if their plot is one that clearly wasn't going to work at all. Especially seeing as you know for a fact that Medusa has at least some form of love for you at this point. After all, how could she not? You did more for her in saving her and her sisters from the Gorgon than anybody else in her entire life has ever done for her. "We'll talk about this later." You look at the girl still lying on the ground. "Medusa, free yourself and try to make yourself a little more decent. I'm here to to make it so these two can walk among normal people without living in fear of their supernatural charms."

You turn away from Medusa, allowing her to have some privacy as she fixes her clothing. Honestly, her sisters, while they do love her, need to be taught just how to properly display love to people. Of course, it's easy to think of the bullying that they do to Medusa as a form of nothing but vitriolic dislike for the girl, but it's simply because the two girls just don't know any better. The love of a goddess is something that can come in many forms, after all, and not every goddess is going to properly understand love. At least not in the human sense. It's why goddesses like Aphrodite had no problem abusing their abilities to cause random strangers to fall in love with other strangers for convenience.

"Touko. These are the two I want you to take a look at." The girls have thankfully stopped trying to struggle out of your grip now. A combination of both knowing that it's impossible unless they want to shred their own clothing and end up even more naked than their sister, and through interest in your declaration to liberate them of their charm, which to them, is really more like a curse. You put the two girls down on a crate in front of Touko, and they shiver a little when Touko starts to examine their bodies and flow some magical energy through them.

"Fascinating..." Touko is clearly quite interested in the biology of the two girls, examining them incredibly closely and looking over them multiple times. "In form, these two girls are... more like a Servant than they are like a living being, but a sort of... well something like a mix, they can generate their own magical energy, and are technically 'alive'...but I can alter them, I think, it's going to be a challenge, but I live for challenges." Touko confidently declares. "The one question I have to ask though, is this charm they have... Do you want it permanently disabled, or something that can be turned on or off? I learned quite a lot from my experiences with editing your Servant." Touko offers you a choice.

>Permanently disable their charm.
>Have their charms be something that can be activated at will.
>Write-in...

So, Mashu. I think I found something interesting, before I forget.

How about this for tomorrow:
1. Dragon Core
2. Talk about Manaka`s Servants and plans how to deal with them
3. Talk about Concepts for people who want them
4. We search the city for Monika, Gray, Flat and everybody who pings on the radar (Second Assassin)
5. Meanwhile Casters are working on supporting items to counter and help versus Manaka`s Servants, mud and Manaka herself
Depending on the results we decide that kind of move we want to make during the night.

Not just Manaka's servants, we need to tell them everything. Angra Mainyu, the Manakas, the mud and the servants, anything else relevant that I might be forgetting now.

Second Assassin doesn't ping, we'll have to send Enkidu out on a scouting mission. His master is probably an OC, I can't think of any other prominent character who it could be.

Amusing how gaijins have their heads so far up their ass
Nobody in Japan thinks a game being for mobile makes a game lesser
Nobody in Japan thinks gacha mechanics make a game lesser, especially not the game's story which is completely unrelated to any mechanics.

FGO was the most popular game on twitter WORLDWIDE for years, including at the time of Camelot movie's production. Unlike the #2 spot, Fortnite, FGO's a cultural phenomena almost exclusively restricted to Japan. Moreover, Camelot is the third most popular FGO story chapter.
OF COURSE there will be a shitton of passionate Japanese artists willing to do sakuga for it. Just like there are thousands of fanarts done by extremely skilled artists like pic related and tens of thousands of porn.
Camelot movie 2 will be one of the most well animated anime in 2021. The staff working on it has many of the animators from Mob Psycho S2, which was amazing visually.
And
>sakuga (uncountable)
>In Japanese animation (anime), a sequence of noticeably higher quality, used to highlight a particularly important scene.
You think they'll release the most important scenes on a preview? Please.

Also, about Ritsuka. The player character never was the appeal of FGO's stories in the first place. Point of view =/= Protagonist.
There's this one Latin American classic book called Epitaph of a Small Winner where a dead man narrates his life story to "the worm who first gnawed on the cold flesh of my corpse." Guess who's the fucking protagonist, the worm (POV) or the dead man?
Yes, Ritsuka is a fucking dogshit character, worse than a worm, so what? Dude is merely the cameraman. He doesn't lead, he doesn't make choices, there are no moments for him to personally overcome, he almost doesn't have thoughts. The game doesn't even pretend that he does any of those things. Those things are relegated to the Servants. In Camelot's case Bedivere is the protagonist.

I know people reach absurd conclusions when they're on an echo chamber and a bubble but THINK, WHATIS, THINK

I think >>4825960 is very relevant here.

When you seethe too much about too many things, that sort of toxicity and negativity can and does have an impact on one's psyche and overall mood. Anybody should know that by now. It's only those individuals that have developed self-awareness and other skills that can observe their own actions and thoughts, stopping themselves to go "am I overdoing it?", "how do the things I write read to others?", "why do I feel so bad right now?" and other thought-provoking questions to one's own self.

>>
>>4826254
>No one wants to consoome something that has them self-insert as an extra
Not true. If you care about the setting itself and characters in it it is perfectly feasible to want to participate in it without becoming the star and center of the story. Although it’s true that may not be palatable to everyone, if you actually want to be the Gary Stu for instance.

Take MMOs as an example, most of the heavy lifting tends to be done by story characters with important bits having them backed up by a few dozen player extras.
>>
>>4826257
>Is it too outrageous to think that an animator would ALSO like the Nasuverse IP enough to invest their time and hard work into making a scene memorable?
I guess not?
I just dislike FGO in general because it could have been so much more than it is, I see wasted potential every time I look at it, yet people will still CONSOOM and wallet dump to get a png.
>>
But still, this all stems from the fact that Camelot is pretty hideous looking, which it is.

>Good job missing the point of that guy's initial statement about sakuga. He was just listing out WHY gachashit is popular in Japan.
I don't know, I think "the japs are repulsive consoomer niggercattle who buy any and everything" is a pretty good summary of his point. At least from a gaijin perspective, since he gave us the jap perspective.

>>4826261
>If you care about the setting itself and characters in it
Then you don't want to self-insert. You want to see the characters interact with something better than a carboard cutout that you can project yourself into.

>MMOs
People don't usually play MMOs for their story, and MMOs are not know for the quality of their writing. They also have a convenient excuse to have the players be extras. There are thousands of players in any given mmo, and you have to handwave that away to have the player be the protagonist of the story. That's not the case for FGO. They COULD have had a protagonist with an actual personality without it causing any problems. They just chose not to.

You're conflating two separate things.
Self-inserts aren't necessarily protagonists, they're just characters made for the reader (or the writer) to identify with. People can identify with any character. Hell, that's where the meme "for me it's Kefka – intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor" came from. Another example is some generic NTR doujin with a woman and a black guy, and the woman's boyfriend who is never shown, just mentioned. Who do you think white male readers identify with?
>No one wants to consoome something that has them self-insert as an extra.
Ritsuka is literally an extra in FGO in the sense he does literally nothing and is easily replaceable, as long as whoever replaces him is as useless, likeable and normal as he is. People self-insert as him because the Servants have an amicable/romantic relation with him, not because he does stuff.

My big confusion isnt even that, its that he also says shit like this:

"Nasu: Until a few years ago, we thought people would only play the game as a compact mobile release. Many people are enjoying FGO nowadays thanks to that mindset. But after playing many mobile games myself, I noticed I forget all about them the next year, no matter how well they were made. With being so easy to get, easy to play, and easy to finish, our memories of them are easy to be overwritten. That's enough for simple, one idea games, but TsukiR is the complete opposite of that. It's a media that makes you straighten your posture on your chair to play. "
>>
>>4826318

Rin Matou seems like pure depression if we're not also recovering her. Especially if this counts as observing her.

Mind of Steel Rin wins. I guess we have many people who didn't read the vn here?
>>
You stare the two girls deep in their eyes. Your cool blue eyes almost reflecting back at you from their sparkling purple eyes. You decide that it might be an idea to explain to the girls just what is going to happen. Hopefully, that will get them to stop being such nuisances. "Stheno, Euryale. What my teacher is doing for you both now is enabling you both the chance at a normal life. You should both be aware that due to the nature of your abilities, Medusa had to resign the remainder of her life to suffer being branded as a monster just to defend you both." You state calmly. Medusa sacrificed her everything because the curse that these two girls suffer from forced them to be kept isolated from humanity. Well, it wasn't specifically a curse... No, it's something like a curse, but merely a vestigial divine power surfacing in the form of a charm that no man should be able to resist. For a goddess like Ishtar, an ability like this is something she would have no issue with, however, Ishtar is a powerful goddess in her own right, and is more than capable of crushing any unwanted advanced made upon her. Unlike the two Gorgon sisters, who needed Medusa to sacrifice everything just for them.

Stheno looks at you with bored eyes, apparently not believing "I'd be willing to believe it if it were you saying that you were going to do something about it, but this human? I can hardly believe that this human is anywhere close to your leve- Ouch!" Something seems to slightly hurt Stheno and cause her jump in shock. "Watch what you're doing!" She demands Touko be more careful, and you shake your head from side to side disapprovingly.
>>
>>4826465
Can I roll for Rin Nanaya?
>>
"I'd be careful when you talk about my teacher like that. I might have unique abilities, but when it comes to magical knowledge, Shishou is still my superior by a wide margin." You aren't about to dispute that at all, while you've recently discovered you can pretty much completely bypass actual magical knowledge through your ability to imbue concepts onto others, you still never would've discovered that ability without Touko's assistance, and if the two of you were to battle against one another in a serious battle of magic, Truth Element of not, you can't really see yourself being able to get one over on a prepared Touko. Not to mention that she has an infinite supply of lives, and you... well, you don't. "But as I was saying, this is effectively the one and only chance that the three of you are going to be given at being able to be able to enjoy life without being consigned to a life of isolation, trapped on a lonely island for the rest of time." Immortality is a hell of a thing to have if you have to spend it trapped in a single place. It's a wonder that the three girls didn't go insane... Well, you suppose that one of them did, but that was more thanks to the blood she continued to spill changing Medusa's nature to that of a monster. "It feels a little bit wrong to shut you off from this part of yourselves, but your recent behavior has shown that the two of you can't be trusted with the power you might otherwise be able to wield, which is why..." You turn to look at the woman still examining the two girls. "Touko, I want you to disable their charms, but keep it so they can be activated at will..." The two girls look at you with hopeful eyes. "By me and me alone. I shall be their judge." You can see the girl's hearts sink as you sink their hopes. They might consider their abilities something of a curse, but that doesn't mean that they want it gone just like that. After all, for the two girls, that charm has been a part of them for countless years. It really is something like tearing a part of their existence away from them.

"You...? You're going to decide when we get to make use of our in-born abilities? You're quite arrogant, you know that, don't you?" Euryale pouts, apparently not happy about having to be kept on a leash because she can't be trusted. It's not like they haven't earned this semi-punishment. Besides, it's hardly even a punishment, they should be thanking you!
>>
"It's not arrogance, it's simply an acknowledgment of my own superiority." You state, arrogantly. "This will give you a better understanding on Medusa's perspective of life, if you live without your charms for a while. After all, if you want to become a part of this world, you're going to need to need to realize that you can't just expect to be able to get your own way from any man you meet." Nor will they have to fear every man they meet being affected too strongly by their charms and needing to be executed for it. "So start treating your sister nicely, prove that you aren't the horrible little goblinoids that you make yourselves out to be, and I'll have the ability to control your abilities given back to you, but until then, I'm afraid the two of you will very need to actually need to rely on being actual decent human beings... or well, goddesses, if you want people to do what you want for them. Touko?" As you finish talking to the girls, you give Touko the go-ahead before giving them a chance to say anything back.

A white light diffuses out from the girls as Touko changes the aspects of the two goddesses, before she grabs your wrist and you feel an odd power enter into your body. The light clears, and nothing seems to have changed, but only on the surface level. "You... You actually... I didn't think you could...!" Stheno seems to be stunned, having already noticed the loss of her supernatural charm. You can tell that the procedure was a complete success, by simply willing it, you can flick a mental switch that would grant the two girls access to their power once again. Touko really is amazing when it comes to things like spiritual bodies, huh? Even if these two girls are something like a mix, Touko still easily managed to find a solution. Perhaps she should change her chosen field of study?

"Of course, I never doubted Shishou's abilities for a moment." As you look at the two panicked looking goddesses, Medusa appears at your side, fully clothed, yet still wearing a heavy blush. You smile at the tall-ish woman, who is looking at her two squirming sisters with interest. She's back to wearing a casual outfit, but no glasses or Breaker Gorgon.

>"Medusa, would you mind taking care of this from here? Oh, and come down in about twenty minutes, we'll be trying on some clothing with everyone."
>"Medusa, I know you don't need to wear them anymore, but I feel like you're far more beautiful with glasses."

Interlude Start

I hold my breath as I reach Illya's room. I've been putting off meeting her again since I heard what happened. I feel like I let her down when I didn't even try to stop that Goddess from leaving the house while using her body how she pleased. There was no way for me to know that something was wrong, I guess, but... My anticipation at finally getting to see my father again after all these years has been somewhat subdued by the thoughts of my failure to protect Illya. If not for Shinji's quick thinking, she would've been lost for good. But is there even anything I have in stock that could have saved her from possession? Do I have any swords like that? A golden dagger that cuts the soul from the body, perhaps? But would that really have worked? Or would it have torn Illya's soul out along with the Goddess'? I can't be sure, and that infuriates me. When it comes to the more complex concepts held within swords like that, I'm... not perfect at figuring out just how to best use them. Like the Sword of Paracelcus, I know that the Sword has powers within it that are more complex than just using it to generate beams of destructive energy, but I can't figure them out, even when I try to draw upon the experiences of the last wielder. I just can't use techniques that aren't martial-based in some way.

I shake my head to clear my thoughts. My anticipation filling my head with all sorts of unrelated thoughts. There's no use in thinking about swords right now, right now, I'm about to finally meet my father after all these years. It's been so long but... "Oh, so you're here as well." The Red Archer appears, and makes an annoyed noise as he sees me.

"Nice to see you as well, Archer." The arrival of the man is an unwelcome distraction. I was moments away from entering the room, and he just picks this exact time to show up? What the hell is his problem!?

"Hardly." Archer says with a voice still dripping with annoyance. What exactly he means by that, I have no idea. Is he admitting that it's not good to see him? No, that can't be right at all, he's still got that annoying smug smirk on his face, the same smug smirk that he's refused to wipe off his face whenever he's looked at me ever since I ended up getting engaged to Saber. I seriously have no idea what his problem is. For a moment, I wonder if I can somehow use the incredible stock of swords granted to me by Shinji to take a shot at guessing his identity, but I decide against it. It would take too long to go through all of them like that. I don't want to overwhelm my mind by trying to mentally comprehend them all again. "I take it that you're here to see your father and your sister?"
>>
"Somebody told you, huh?" I still have no idea just why he's hanging around. This has nothing to do with him. I don't want to ruin a happy reunion by causing a fight though, so I refrain from saying anything more. It's a shame that Saber didn't want to come and meet Kiritsugu too, but the two of them didn't get on very well in the last Grail War, by Saber's admission, so I'm not going to try to force the matter. They'll meet each other in time anyway, and Saber will have no choice but to realize that Kiritsugu is a better person than the machine he once acted like when he was with her. I hope... The truth is, I don't know dad half as well as I thought I did.

"Of course. Rin told me." With that, the taller man just pushes past me and enters the room, his superior strength as a Servant meaning he can sweep me aside quite easily. What the hell is he doing?!

"Archer!?" I can't hold back my surprised anger as I yell the 'name' of the man. But he just ignores me and walks into the room. I follow behind him, much to my displeasure. Whatever positive emotions I may have had about the man are now gone.

I walk into the room, and my heart stops. Sitting together on the bed are Kiritsugu and Illya, Illya is happily hugging her father with her eyes closed, while Kiritsugu stares at both Archer any myself, he's got a complicated and uncertain expression for some reason. I disregard the sleeping girl who looks like a blonde Rin who is laying on the bed directly behind my two family members, I don't think she's important to what's happening right here, even if it is strange that Rin dyed her hair... Hey, didn't I already pass Rin on my way to this room? Twice? Weird.

"Hold on a second..." Kiritsugu is looking closely at... Archer? Instead of me, he's chosen to look at the random Servant who's burst into his room instead? Thanks, dad. All those years, gone, and this is how you choose to act now that you're back? Or did he not notice me yet? He finally turns to face me, and his voice is far more confused than it has any right to be. "Shirou... Why are there two of you?" What? I look around the room, but there's definitely no doppelgangers around, the only other person he could possibly be referring to is... Archer?

At that moment the red garbed man runs a hand through his hair, completely ruining the slicked back style he had going on, before looking directly at me. "Surprised, Shirou?" Is all the man says. The smug grin on his face even smugger than usual for some reason. But... There's... No way! He can't be me! That doesn't make any sense!
>>
"I'll explain. But I don't want to say this more than once, I'm Shirou from a potential future, in that future, I signed a contract with the will of humanity to become a Counter Guardian in order to prevent a great tragedy, and I've been working as one ever since then..." Archer explains with a nearly emotionless voice, before he lets himself actually smile. "I've missed you, dad." The always confident voice of the Archer cracks a little as he looks at Kiritsugu. Illya has her eyes opened and is looking at Archer curiously now too.

"We'll deal with the specifics of all of what's going on later, everyone. For the moment though, come here, sons." The man on the bed invites both me and Archer over to sit with them, and the bed creaks just a little from the weight of five people. I really hope that Shinji didn't cheap out on the beds, otherwise this thing might just be on the verge of collapse. Archer is obviously just a little bit uncomfortable by the situation, but he gets no choice but to cooperate, as Illya grabs him and easily overpowers him into the sort of group hug as the four of us sit in a line on the bed. Thankfully, we're on opposite sides to one another. As I reunite with my family, and find out about my temporal clone, I can't help but think that there's something missing here... I can't place it, but it feels like somebody else should be here, but I don't think that it's Saber, so who...?

If you count the first two together kissing Medusa wins, otherwise it's a tie between kissing Medusa and talking to both without kissing.
unless I missed some.

We have a language barrier? I said you "SEEMS worked out" and not accused you of something.
That vote is better version of Sakura`s one for people who want both Medusa and Touko and not just Medusa as he wants. And I voted how I think would be better to handle it and just answering you here now.

That's not really trying. You should have supported that other anon who wanted to kiss them both but also speak to them, and then maybe try to convince people. Some early support for that option might have been enough to get people to jump on that bandwagon and have your preferred option claim victory.

We really need to invest into rubber shoes so we can bring her back.

In fact, on second thought while we have Touko here we could perhaps ask her on feasibility on creation of puppet bodies we could shunt the Serb into. I wish I thought of it earlier, not gonna mess up the count again.

Now that the two girls have had their charms removed from them, you feel far more comfortable around them. Of course, their abilities were never going to be effective on you anyway, but you feel like they've been humbled more so than they were before. After all, the dawning realization that they can no longer just rely on their in built charms is going to hit them hard. You reach out with both hands and pat the two girls on the head reassuringly, ruffling their soft hair a little bit as you do. "Looks like I saved you from the bindings of evil once again, doesn't it, Medusa?" You stop patting the girls on the head after a while, and turn to face the woman with a smile on your face. While the first time you saved her was a genuinely dangerous situation in which she may well have ended up killing both you and Sakura, this was a far more light-hearted affair, even if it did end up annoying you just a little.

"I... suppose that you could put it like that, though my sisters... they aren't evil. Just... maybe a little too playful and mischievous at times, but you shouldn't call them evil." Even now Medusa presents a defense for the actions of her two sisters. Her loyalty to the two girls is admirable, if entirely undeserved on the part of of Stheno and Euryale. They should really treat their younger sister with more obvious love. It's quite obvious that they do actually love Medusa, but they really have a terrible way of showing it. The life of spoiled goddesses will do that though, you suppose.

"I know, Medusa, it was simply a joke. I know that Stheno and Euryale aren't truly evil, though their personalities could truly do with lots of work." Honestly, they might be able to actually grow to enjoy the presence of other humans now that they have a guarantee that those humans won't be forced to take leave of their senses and attempt to molest them, or worse. Their abilities really must've been a curse, no matter how they feel about having them gone right now, you know that in no time at all, the two girls will quickly come to appreciate not having their supernatural charms, and when that time comes, you might just grant them their charm back anyway. "I didn't forget about that race I owed you, by the way. But we'll have to leave it for a bit... I feel like it might get a little bit too 'death-racey' if we go about it right now. Especially with Tesla still on the prowl." The last place you want to be when the Master of Magnetism strikes is inside a metal death box. That seems like a painful end just waiting to happen. "I'll take you and your sisters to the city at some point in the future too, so the three of you can truly experience the normal world as the people around you experience it." While to you, the modern world is a boring false simulacrum of a world you left a decade ago, to Servants, it's all very new and exciting to be able to experience it for the first time.
>>
"I'd... I'd like that." Medusa smiles happily at you, and you smile back. There's something delightfully precious about Medusa's smile. As if it's something rare that needs to be conserved and protected, otherwise it might disappear. You don't want Medusa to ever have to have her heart broken ever again. The memories she still retains as her time as the Gorgon must be tremendously traumatic, but... you want her to be able to forget about all that, you've given her a true second chance in this world, and you've even given her sisters back. Now, Medusa might be able to truly seize her own happiness, her own true happiness, unbound by the tremendous guilt of her past sins. She's overcome the Gorgon already, after all.

Finished talking with Medusa, you turn to your teacher once more. "Shishou... thank you again, you've done something that your inexperienced disciple was incapable of managing by himself." You flatter your teacher by praising her superior skill, and you mean it. While you might've been able to do something with a concept application, as far as you can tell, as your current level of skill, the application of concepts is a one time deal. Both for targets, and for the concept that you apply. This might change as you get more control over your abilities, but it feels unlikely. You can already do things on the level of practically doing something like turning Mordred into something that could be called a fledgling Goddess of Time, though without needing to rely on divinity to reach that status. "I... Want to remind you that my offer from back then still stands, you know the-"

"Offer for anything I want, right?" Touko finishes your sentence for you, and gives you a wry smile. "Oh, I'm quite aware of that offer, Wakame-kun. But I'm going to keep you guessing as to when I actually plan on cashing in." Your teacher smiles at you, the smile of a dangerous woman. You hope that she doesn't ask for too much. You don't regret offering her the chance to ask for anything from you. Or at least you don't regret offering her the chance yet... you hope that you don't change your mind when the time finally comes for Touko to actually cash in on that offer...

"Y-yeah, that's... That's what I was talking about." You try to keep the worry out of your voice. "Anyway..."

>"I need to be getting on with helping Sakura cook."
>"Medusa, Stheno, Euryale, do you want me to introduce you to my daughters?"
