Gaol Quest: a text adventure occasionally illustrated.

For your various (alleged) crimes against the Eternal Empire, the High Magistrate had sentenced you to life, and thrown you into the Gongalla Gaol: the pit of despair, the mistake of architecture and magic, the continent-sized holding facility. Thankfully, as per the required humanoid decency act, you are issued your mandatory spoon... for what good it does.

You had time to reflect on your actions before the teleportation rune hummed with electricity and landed you here, in the Gaol. But first, who are you?

As you grip your spoon tightly and the last spots of magic fade from your eyes, you remembered what you did. Your name is James Calaca, once wanted by the High Magistrate of the Eternal Empire, for crimes you did commit. Hey, you might have deserved a stint in jail, but your crime's not bad enough to have you thrown in the Gaol, right? ...Right?

So, turns out you've always got a disdain for authority, which really rubs the wrong way with the Eternal Empire. I mean, who are they to tell you what or what not to do? It makes your blood boil, really. But you've kept your volatile temper in check, and joined a group of similar-minded people. You've participated in rallies, defaced your share of posters of the Eternal Empress, incited a few riots, even brawled against the Enforcers this one time. But every time, your bullheadedness and your group of malcontents managed to save you from capture - that is, until that one time when you stubbornly tried to stop an Enforcer dyno-truck containing your rebel friends, despite the odds. While you managed to overturn the truck, you failed to withstand the Enforcers' zap-wands. You get captured, and got a swift trial. The rest is history.

Ah well, it's in the past now. No time like the present. As you take in your surroundings, you notice you're sitting on a rusted catwalk bridging what looks like cell blocks. The room goes up seemingly forever, you can't see the ceiling. There's sounds of dripping water from below, a flicker of light in one of the cells to your right, and a faint presence to your far left.

You just can't shake the feeling off. It's like being watched. Your body tingles with alarm, and you whip your head left - only to see a tall, gangly person slowly walking towards you from the other end of the walkway. You can't hear their footsteps, but you can definitely hear their exhalation - the sound trembling with anticipation. They've stopped when they've reached about ten paces from you, at which point you recognize them as female.
"F-finally, some new blood!" A barely audible, creepily excited whisper from the lanky woman. "H-hey there h-handsome. You c-come here often?" there is a hint of artifice in the stutters. "Come with me, we'll h-have lots of... fun... hehehe" her smile creeps you out.

You shift into a relaxed but tense stance, one that radiates confidence. It is clear in your mind that this woman is an inmate like you, and she's going to control you one way or another. So you prepare to flip the script on her. You smirk and wink, "No way, hag."
Upon seeing your stance, she clicks her tongue in mock disapproval. "Could've chosen the easy path, but then again I like the feisty ones... hehehe" she wields her spoon like a bat. "This should be more fun than those ones from the youth academy..."

Swiftly, you charge towards the woman, both hands raised. "Your dick is MINE, handsome!" She swings, but her spoon hits wind as you dodged deeper into her space. Just as you are within fisticuff range, you stop right in front of her face, wink, and say confidently,
"I want you! ...to follow me instead, how 'bout it, sweety?"
Somehow, you managed to say it without snickering at all. It was the cheesiest line you could think up at the moment.
To your surprise, she freezes in her track. Then suddenly, two lines of red trickle down her nose, as her entire being trembled from her very core. "Mmnnnhhh! Yes! Yeees! I've always wanted to hear those words! Take me, handsome!"
She fell into a shuddering mess, panting and exhaling heavily. "I've... nobody has ever said that to me... it's always either 'no way', 'you're ugly', or 'I need an adult'... ohh handsome, I-i-i, I thank you for this!"
She looks like she's very, very happy.

>QUEST RESUMED
You take a quick look at your surroundings, and it soon became clear that this section of the Gaol is quite uninhabited. Despite the ruckus you and the woman made, you feel no other presence nearby. The flickering light you saw earlier had dimmed out, but that dripping noise from below still echo through the prison wing. You wonder if you could find anything in the individual cells.
Satisfied with your scouting, you pick up the quivering mess in your arms, and another excited sigh escapes her. The warmth of another almost reminds you of something long ago...
Now then, on to business.

Disregarding the way she sharply sniffs on your hair right now, you set off to one side of the walkway and onto the rows upon rows of prison cells. A lot of them have rusted bars, and seem to contain only dilapidated matresses - some are even barren. You'd need a closer look at the ones nearest to you, which is the five cells on this side of the block.

>VERITABLE HAUL
You have a feeling that the real treasure is hidden from sight. Knocking on the mattresses and surrounding floors and checking crevices, you eventually find a prisoner's treasure trove. Five such caches, as it seems every cell you checked has something in them.

You managed to gain:
Three blocks of... bread? Cheese? Nutrient bars? with mushrooms growing on them.
A mitochondria. The reasons why it fits in your palm is beyond you.
A spoon, wrapped with a cloth strip.
Two bars of soap. Do not drop them.
A lewd hand-drawn magazine, too bad most of its content had been torn out. Based on its cover picture, though, you're not missing much.
An effigy of a horned, tailed thing, carved out of solid concrete.
A strange polygonal shape that is more an idea rather than a thing, as if an idea can be carried in your hand. You think it might be a container of some sort.

After making off with your haul, you noticed that the woman seemed to be calmer now. Even if she still wears that happy teethy grin all the time.
"Hey, you." You speak, prompting her to turn her head towards you.
"Yes, handsome?"
"Uh, I have a name, you know. It's James Calaca."
"James... Calaca..." she savors each word as if it is a delicious meal.
Seeing as she seem to be stuck in a daze after a couple of seconds, you continued. "Hey, you must have one too, don't you?"
"Hm?" She tilts her head slightly, broken from her fugue.
"A name. What's yours? I can't keep referring to you as 'you', you know."
"Ah, oh! It-it's Petunia Karachova. Not the best of names, eh? Ehehehe."
Well, at least this woman's got a name, and you've sorta broken the ice. You feel like a conversation is now possible.

"So, Petunia," you start, eliciting a trembled whisper from her that sounds like 'he said my name'. "How did you end up here?"
"Well, you see... I can't help it, when I see the vigour of adolescence! Maybe it started after one too many rejections. But my job as a nurse-medic at one of the youth academies has offered, uh, many, MANY opportunities. Suffice to say, I've since graduated my tastes... or lowered my standards considerably, some say."
"So, you're a... serial non-consensualist."
"Yes... let's just say I have loads of libido and no legal way to satiate my tastes, handsome."
"And here I thought vandalizing posters were cool. I used to run with some revolutionaries."
"Just drawing moustaches on posters? Really?"
"Well, there's also that time with the East End worker riots, the Enforcer brawl at the docks, and oh, the time when I tipped over an Enforcer truck..."
"Ahh, so powerful! Quite the indomitable spirit."
"So yeah... you've been here for longer than I am, right?" You pet the mitochondria absent-mindedly. It hums with ATP.
"The Gongalla Gaol... I've been here for a couple of years now, and most of it is still a puzzle. The place just sprawls out in every direction. Things get real strange in the fluxy parts."
"I'm sorry, the what now?"
>>
>>4824407
"The places where magic is twisted. Where reality is not as stable as it should. That's why most of the inmates started to move out of the blocks, parts of it fluxed in the past. Some colonies remain, though."
"Those fluxes might explain this mitochondria and this polygon, then." You show her the items, of which the mitochondria she stroked once.
"More or less, there's also the contrabands some have smuggled when they got in. Or thoughtforms. That's a thing too. When there's not much to do, thinking's a way to make things."
"How do we even survive in this place?"
"Well, every day there's two of those bland nutri-blocks teleported from... somewhere. Pro tip: they taste nasty, it's way better to use them to grow mushrooms. Last longer, and mushrooms at least got some taste."
Well, that certainly didn't help your outlook for the future. What now?

"So what's the deal with the spoons?" You say as you walk towards the dark.
"Beats me. Makes for a good tool and a makeshift weapon, though."
As you check another random cell, you notice that the matress is not bolted to the floor like the others. "Hey, Petunia, check this out." Using your strength, you easily shift the heavy mattress aside to reveal... a hole. Someone, or something, had tried to escape before.
"You thinking what I'm thinking, handsome?"
"Pondering where it leads? Then yes."
"I can hear faint wind, this might connect to another chamber. Or... outside."

We're gonna weaponize this purring mitochondria or die and get desacrated by Petunia trying.
>>
>>4824666
From my research mitochondria need protein and creatine for maximum production
>>
>>4824821
We should learn more about thoughtforms, sounds like it's a way to... create shit. Imagine just absolutely stocking up on magical protein and creatine supplements for mitochondria.
>>
>>4824919
I'm going to guess it has drawbacks, otherwise the prisoners would be waging wholesale wars to acquire it.

Which brings me to another question, just how well guarded is the Gongalla Gaol? Like, is it just an big prison with guards doing patrols and stuff, or is it completely anarchic prison world where they just drop the prisoners and let them do whatever?
>>
>>4825065
I mean if it's the size of a fucking continent, I doubt there would be much worry of people escaping considering the sheer scale of things. They probably just leave us in there to rot.
>>
>>4825072

True, but this empire also seems pretty ridiculous with their technology. I wouldn't be surprised if they were just so stupidly big they needed an continent-sized prison.

>QUEST RESUMED
"Well, a hole's a hole, let's get in." You say, eliciting a snigger from Petunia. "Oh, you know what I mean."
You gingerly step in, using the uneven walls of the tunnel as footholds. It feels like the hole is too big for a single person to climb down safely, you feel you could fall on your back.
"I'll go balls deep just for you, handsome." Petunia offers a solution, back-to-back climbing.
So, carefully, you and Petunia crawled down, each pressing on the other to provide balance. After a while the entrance seem like a small dim dot above.
"This is quite a deep tunnel. You tired yet?"
Petunia replies, "Just being this close to you makes me energetic. Or maybe it's that Mitochondria of yours- oh, found a floor."
Indeed, soon after, your feet landed on something hard and smooth.
>>
>>4826606
Too bad you can't see a thing. Only the occasional glint off of Petunia's glasses lets you know where she is.
"It's dark as hell. You okay?" You ask Petunia.
"I can see you somewhat, handsome. This isn't the first time I'm alone with another male in the dark, you know."
"Well, can you see a light switch or something?"
"Maybe you could, I dunno, rub the Mitochondria? Or the polygon. Might do something."

You fumble about with your inventory in the darkness, bumping against what feels like the two soaps before you get your hands on the Mitochondria. It is a soft, slightly rubbery thing, quivering slightly under your touch. Wait, why are there two- "PETUNIA! Not now, you perv!"
"Ehehehe, sorry, but really, that was an accident." She replied just as you find the real Mitochondria, which is just as soft, rubbery, and slightly quivering.
You slowly rub the organelle and feel energetic - Petunia's right, this might do something. You rub it faster, and soon the Mitochondria emits a visible glow.
"Do actual Mitochondria do that?" You ask, astonished.
"Only when there's plenty of magic stuff around. At least the small ones. We might be standing on some sort of leyline."
"You seem like you know your magics."
She sheepishly shrugs. "Had to learn basic healing spells before, ah, the Gaol."
You look around in the scarce light, it seems that the hole under the mattress leads to some sort of well-made tunnel. To one side you hear faint wind howling - or rather, wheezing its way around a possible room. On the other side, you catch a glint of something, being reflected behind Petunia.

You thought about heading towards the wind, but on second thought it sounds too regukar to be just wind. So you head towards the glittering things - which turns out to be crystals. Small, big, they encrust the entirety of what used to be a room. Some of the crystals are even floating in the air, like motes of dust suspended in the dim light of your Mitochondria.
"Crystals? What the hell?"
"Ooh, yeah, we're on a leyline alright. A flux must've realigned the magics... grab some of the crystals, they're good for focusing magic. Really helps charging you up."
>+3 magic shards
As you pick up some of the bigger floating pieces, you notice that the room has another exit further back, heavily encrusted by crystals but seem to be passable. Oh, and Petunia's hand feeling your butt. You shoot her a knowing glance.
"Hey, I am nothing if not opportunistic. You have nice muscle tone, by the way."

"We really need to talk about your wandering hands later. Now come on, let's check the next room."
Moving carefully so your clothes doesn't get ripped up by errant crystals, the two of you entered another chamber. You noticed the Mitochondria glowing brighter as it nears a floating crystal, so you laid the crystal on its top. It immediately shone, illuminating the thing right in the middle of what used to be a bathroom.
"That's a huuuge crystal."

You say as you grab a spoon from your inventory, the one with the grip; you recall the sharp heat and rebellious power boiling within and take a stance. A moment in silence. "How was it supposed to go again? Oh yeah. REACH HEAVEN THROUGH VIOLENCE!"
A shatter that resounds through the crystallized room later, and you realized that either you have some strength beyond strength, or the crystal was really, really weak. It was shattered entirely, along with the person inside!
>>
>>4828685
To your relief, and then your annoyance, you found out that the person inside was actually a robot, an Enforcer most likely. Its severed head bounced a bit before it came to a halt near your feet.
"Hello there, inmates! I am a junior wardenbot, designation Frank-11. I say, thank you from freeing me from that bit of bother, myes. Although I'll definitely have to cite the partial dismemberment of a junior wardenbot."

"Yep, that's a wardenbot all right, they used to monitor the prisoners and keep the place running... in theory. I guess fluxes lay beyond their programming." Petunia commented on the decapitated thing.
Ugh, one of the Eternal Empire's lackeys, eh? You have no sympathy for them, and you've considered just kicking this tin can out of its misery, but then again...
"Hey Petunia, how about I give you a head?" You toss her the disembodied wardenbot.
"Ooh, I could have some fun with this!" She immediately tried to fondle it between her breasts, which due to a lack of mass, resulted in cranial dislodgement.
"Please, cease your assault of the bosom, madam! I should also report this, but unfortunately there was a... connection problem." Frank noted.
With a sigh, you picked the head up. "Well, what else can you do?"
It seemed to mull some thoughts. "Provided there are intact power sources, I could interact with the magitek circuits, myes. Like turning on the lights here, just like that."
Well, what do you know, this junk can still work. You set about looking around in the crystallized bathroom, finding little. Even Frank's old body was of little use, most of it rusted over and/or destroyed during your rescue attempt. Even the stun-wand he has on his hip was crushed beyond functionality.
There's nothing else here, except for maybe a safe place to rest, if you don't mind the crystals growing on the floor.

Letting Petunia carry Frank's head, you lead them both to the other end of the tunnel, the regular breezy sound slowly growing more noticable. As you approach the end of the hallway, you notice a door, open by just a crack. A defiant sliver of orange invites you to open it, so open it you did... and you see a sunset.
"What in the name of revolution?!"
Not just that, but you start to notice the inherent impossibility of it: the entire horizon, the whole sunset, is enclosed within an impossibly huge chamber. The door led to some kind of rooftop or viewing platform, and you can see other buildings bathed in the bruised golden light. It's as if the world is set ablaze, and the maroon curtains are slowly closing on this stage play called existence.
"Looks like a primo makeout spot. Uou know, where teens get their first kisses and such." Gotta leave it to Petunia to break you out of your awe.
"I see that this sunset is still safely contained. A word of advice: please don't stare directly at it for too long. The nostalgia might be contagious." Frank speaks, from the depths of Petunia's armpits. You do feel like something is tugging at your heartstrings.

The growing ache in your heart makes you want to either kiss someone, or to run, and get out of here. You take a side-glance to Petunia, who is currently picking her nose, and quickly considered the latter option. "There's gotta be a way off this roof."
After a cursory search, you find two holes in the safety nets of the building you're on. One has a rusted walkway similar to the ones on the prison blocks bridging the gap to another rooftop, while the other has a more challenging route that involves shimmying down some pipes, that leads to a different rooftop. Or perhaps you could reach that observation window thing below.

While it seems easy, you are not sure that the walkway is structurally sound. "C'mon, let's go here."
Sliding down the pipes is the easy part. Getting off safely, however, requires timing. That's why you chose to carefully shimmy down to the rectangular room jutting out the back side of the building. The strange feeling tugging on your heartstrings seem to subside, now you're in the shadow of the building. You briefly considered to carry Petunia on your back as you get on the pipe, but it soon becomes apparent that she is more athletic than she seem to be. And with one hand carrying the robot head!
"Hmm, is that some magitek I detect?" Frank pipes up, soon after both of you landed. "Functioning ones too, but... not again, connection error. At least I think I can open doors and the like."

You test the hatch a bit. "As I expected, it's locked." The steel seems strong, and its hinges kinda solid. Yet, you feel you can take it on. You're nothing if not stubborn.
Frank interjects. "Ah, quite the sturdy security measure. If you're willing, I could-"
"Petunia, pass me a spoon." You interrupt, and sets to work on the hatch. There, a slight crack! Jamming the spoon in, you feel something slightly give way. Time to apply some leverage. "uuuUUUUURAAAAAAAAA!!!" A howl escapes you as the cover blows open. The hatch has been defeated, and nothing impedes you from entering the booth-like room below. A ladder awaits, and you duly fulfill its purpose.
"Woah, look at all these dials and buttons. Wonder what they do?" Petunia looks around, fascinated by a big red button. "Seems like there's also some... documents?" She remarks, as you notice a soft fluorescent hum filling the room.
"This looks very much like a prisoner observation booth, although I couldn't fathom why it being here." Frank noted. There is also a wooden door that leads to a hallway, lighted but empty. More fluorescent hum that way.

>QUEST RESUMED
"Huh, wonder what's on these." Your revolutionary instincts are tingling.
Looking closer at the documents, you realize they're intended for the wardens of Gongalla. A stack of Warden Notification Bulletins, in fact. Although disordered, incomplete and scattered chronologically, you quickly pick up the relevant information from the rest.

---WARDEN NOTIFICATION BULLETIN---
100th Anniversary:
Today marks the 100th year of Gongalla Gaol. 100 years ago to this day, our glorious Eternal Empire had stabilized this place and built the first iteration of the Gaol. Since then, our great Eternal Empress had seen fit to expand the Gaol to satisfy the needs of the Empire. In rememberance of this historic day, an authentic cake has been delivered to each Warden. Please, savor it.

---WARDEN NOTIFICATION BULLETIN---
Spatial Disturbances:
Wardens, please be advised of an ongoing spatial disturbance in cell block 2536-D. Dimensional anchors are being calibrated as we speak to fix this error. Please maintain a security perimeter around it to prevent prisoners falling into its effects. Thank you for your service.

---WARDEN NOTIFICATION BULLETIN---
Updated List of Known Prisoner Organizations:
+ Rebellion
+ Resistance
+ Revolutionaries
+ Gongalla Liberation Front
+ Randotti Goblin Gang
+ Crossbones
+ Black Badges
+ Pyrovore Cult
+ Luddites
+ Dead Numbers
Wardens, please be on the lookout for any disturbances, turf war et cetera from those organizations. Use force if necessary.

---WARDEN NOTIFICATION BULLETIN---
Warden Rotation:
As per the new humanoid decency act, all current Wardens are hereby relieved from duty as soon as their Wardenbot replacements have been sufficiently trained. Please refer to document XDH-7A for instructions to make a one-time teleportation rune, and how to power it. We await your return home.

"Ah, that last one, I remember. It was also one of the few printed iteration of the Warden Notification Bulletin, as the Wardenbots are phased in. Caused quite some jubilation from the former Wardens, yes it did." Frank interjects.

"Wait, lookie here! It says there could be a way out of here, using that teleportation rune! We can get out of here!" You can't believe it, is this a dream? You got so ecstatic you punched yourself in the face.
"Whoa there handsome, take care of that face of yours. And besides, chances are that this XDH document's all used up already. We don't even know if it's even here."
"So c'mon, let's check every nook and cranny, then! Hurry up!"

An hour later, you are empty-handed. The booth's been scoured clean of any and all paperwork, and no signs of document XDH-7A. Through Frank, you were also able to understand the purpose of the buttons and dials - apparently they're somehow linked to the containment of the forever sunset. "Damn," exasperation strains from your voice, "I could really use that authentic cake by now."
"I doubt you could even find one in an edible condition, I'm afraid. That notification was sent over two hundred years ago." Frank notes.
"Ugh." On a whim, you ask Frank. "Hey, rustbucket, do you have access to prisoner files? I want to know what's on it."
"Unfortunately old chap, I am cut off from the AKASHIC interface and unable to comply. I can connect to local networks, but unless there is a local copy of your file, it's impossible. Terribly sorry, wot."
Man, you suddenly feel the delayed tiredness. All that body movement had winded you up. You wonder if the booth is a safe place to rest for now.

"Let's take a little break, that search really winded me up." You say, as you grab one of the two office chairs in the booth and sit on it. Your toned butt appreciates its new comfotable throne.
"Yeah. Good idea, handsome. We've been going places today." Petunia puts Frank aside, and sits on the other chair.
"Speaking of - you were really nimble back there, Petunia. Hopping pipes while carrying that bot-head! Did you use to do athletics or something?" You take Mighty the Mitochondria out of its jury-rigged flashlight contraption and started petting it. It purrs with ATP.
"Ah, shucks. I used to be in the track team during my academy days. Before that, as a child, I had took a few Ballet classes. Then later on, I often have to quickly hide, or give them the slip during my, uh, non-consensualist acts. Nothing much, really. Not like you! Those strong muscles, glistening with sweat... yet you don't look like a blockhead."
"Eh, folks told me my muscles might be denser or something since I was a kid. Then I had quite a rough childhood, got in fights almost every day. Still getting in fights until I got caught."
"Well, keep flexing 'em for me, handsome." Petunia shivers slightly. "By the way, what do you think happened to the warden that used to live here?"
"No idea, got eaten by squirrels maybe?" You laughed at the mental image of a prison warden succumbing to a horde of chittering tree rats. "Just hope the one-way rune document's still intact."
>>
>>4837291
"By the way, Petunia, ever heard of those groups in the bulletin?"
"Some of them, yeah. I thought the Rebellion, Resistance, and Revolution are the same thing. GLF runs Radio Free Gongalla, I think. Randotti broke up into several goblin families, Black Badges were former Enforcers and Wardens who got in the wrong end of the system... dunno about the rest. Never joined any of them, myself."
You two kept talking until you can't keep your eye open. Sleep has absconded with you in tow, to drop you off in the land of nod. A strange feeling washes over you.
And you realize that you are currently dreaming.

In this dream, you peel your left eye and rode it as it soars above a sunset-struck sea, still as a mirror. From within the depths, Mighty bubbled up, full of ATP, followed by Petunia wearing a bunny suit and holding a key.
"Fancy seeing you here, handsome."
"Petunia? How did you get in my dream?" A potted plant you've never seen before floats into view.
"Am I the real Petunia, or am I just an image of Petunia in your mind?"
"Hmm... if that is so, why are you wearing a bunny suit?"
"Don't question dream logic, and paint me like one of your models." 'Petunia' giggles. "Or perhaps she reminds you of someone else, in the past?"
You froze. There's a slight memory bubbling up that you can't remember just yet. Something steeped in nostalgia. "Give me time... I might be able to remember."
Just as you have something on the tip of your tongue, she spoke. "Shhh... you have no more time right now. The real me's about to seize your asset, while you sleep. Can't blame her, she's dreaming too. Wake up, maybe?"

Such warnings are to be heeded immediately, and as such, you return to the waking world grabbing your crotch. Which is good, because Petunia's got a vicious grasp on your pants while mumbling something about lasagna. "Petunia! Hey, wake up!" You shout, amidst efforts to keep your dignity intact.
"Oh dear! To be young and virile! Although, I don't know how to report this - it seems like an involuntary act-" Frank comments, but you interrupt.
"Definitely not the time for that." You then divert your attention into figuring out how to shake her awake. "Petunia, wake up!"
With a hip bump, you finally woke her up with a snort. "Hrnk- wha... uh, good morning, handsome." She then noticed your leg in her arms. "Um, darn, I did it again." She blushes, but still held on to your leg.
"We really, REALLY got to talk about that. Seriously." You managed to get your leg free, and adjust your pants into its proper position.
"If you'd like, I can help. All Wardenbots have an inbuilt counseling program to help with the inmates' mental health." Frank offers.
"Huh. And why is that?"
"Are the prisoners not supposed to be rehabilitated so they can re-enter society? Do they not require help in troubled times?" Frank retorts.
"Well, you do have a point there."

You motion for Petunia to take a seat, and you do so too. "Right, so. Petunia. I'm not a professional shrink, but even I can see you need help. I know we just met hardly a day ago, but care to tell me how it all started?"
She tries to evade a bit. "H-huh, that's a h-heavy topic you're slinging to me. M-maybe after breakfast??"
"Nope, because it seems like nobody ever told you better, in the past." You keep eye contact.
After some time, she sighs. A signal of something giving way. "You know... you may be right. Nobody told me better. My parents were the perfectionist types, so as a kid, I was forced to excel. Grades all straight As, ballet class enrollment, expectation upon expectation piled up on me. Never cared about my appearance, as long as I got ranks and shit, you know? Don't think they ever said that I'm pretty, right in my face."
"By the Revolution, that's rough."
"No shit. To make it worse, my youth academy mates would often tease and bully me for my face. So yeah, shit's rough. So I put on a face, and lied to myself - 'they're just jealous of your smarts'."
"Seems like some of them do be like that. As for the rest... kids can be cruel." You pat her on her hands, which made her crack a slight smile.
"I thought I showed them all when I graduated and went to the high medical academy, and even got me a boyfriend. But turns out he did it with me just to win a bet with his girlfriend. His parting words cut real deep."
"Damn, sounds like a real walking rectum you got saddled with."
"Yeahhh. Anyways, after that, I fell hard into the world of fanfiction, and from there it's a rabbit hole into smut and more niche, connoisseur-type of lewds. Finished my medical degree and got the job at a youth academy. From there, well... that's how it snowballed and I ended up here."
"So... it sounds like you're just an awkward girl, who tried to hide the awkwardness with social cues from lewd literature. Ever thought that this is wrong?"
"That's the problem. I do. But I can't help it, sometimes. The urge is just too strong." She looks despondent, from where you are.

"You mentioned you used to read fanfiction. Have you ever tried letting your urges go creatively? Like in writing, drawing, or hell, interpretative dance?"
She hesitates for a bit. "Well, I do want to try writing, and I could draw a bit... I could try making a comic, or something. No guarantees it won't be smutty, though."
"It's fine if it's lewd as hell. As long as you don't do non-consensuals every time you get the urge."
A hint of guilt, and she shies away. "I don't think that would be g-"
You move in for a hug, and she took it with surprise. "I know you got problems, and as a friend, know that I'll be there for you." You can feel her trembling with emotions.
"J-james? You shouldn't, you shouldn't..."
"Shhh, it's alright now, Petunia. You can be beautiful on the inside. Let's work on that."
Warm tears fall on top of your hair. "Y-you mean it? About being there with me?"
"I mean it. I'll even help you with your lewd comic idea. Let's make it the best!"

"WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?!" You say, surprised.
"Aw ye, the name's Gobson, Gobson be me name. Freelance repo gob!" The goblin cheerfully explained.
"How long have you been there?" This guy makes for an excellent thief, neither you or Petunia sensed anything before.
"Ehh, around the time the bird's tryna eat your willy for breakfast, guv."
"Why are you here?" You feel a bit of anger boiling up, that was embarassing for strangers to see.
"Well, being a resourceful, nomadic gob that I am, I thought I'd take a peek to this room beyond the cubicle farms, and there you both are! I thought of liberating some of your material possessions, but things got real interestin-loik."
Well, at least the gob's honest. "Frank, did you notice him?"
"I'm afraid not, my vision is obstructed by this chair I am under." Frank pipes.
At that point, Gobson quips. "Oh, yeah, why don't you just givver a mouthful of your haggis after this? She'll love i-"
Before you know it, your fist is already loosened and homing straight at the goblin's face.

Gobson was apparently too busy entertaining the thought of the two of you in... compromising positions, as the goblin saw your fist as it was already too late to dodge. A satisfying 'thwack' resounded as the clenched fury connects, sending the owner of a formerly smug goblin asprawl on the floor. Good thing you were able to tone down on your violence, because otherwise Gobson could end up dead. "Talk shit, get hit!" You exclaim proudly, despite the intended listener is soundly knocked out of their gourd.
You were contemplating to leave them in the booth, but Petunia seems to be looking at them in thought. "You know, handsome, we might need a guide if we're to go through the Offices. This guy seem like to know the surroundings better than we do."
"How bad is these... 'Offices' place?"

You sling Gobson onto your shoulder as Petunia hoists Frank on hers. It's as if you're carrying a child rather than a full-grown Goblin right now. "Like it or not, you're coming with us." You can feel Gobson's breaths indicating that the goblin is still knocked out cold. "Here's hoping your judgement's good, Petunia."
"Well, it better be, we can't exactly climb up those pipes, can we, handsome?" She's got a point.
And so, the four of you step outside the booth, into a short hallway that leads to a room filled with seemingly endless cubicles. Only the slow hum of fluorescent lights unseen can be heard. Well, almost, you could pick up some slight static from some of the cubicles. In the far walls you can see some moee hallways and a some doors.
"Well, how should we proceed, handsome?"

"I may be able to help, but I do require a destination, myes." Frank pipes up.

"Well, I just want to get out of here." You say, peeved at having to rely on this symbol of authority.
"If you'd lift me above the cubicle dividers, I could scan for the closest exit of this building."
"Eh! You do it, Petunia. I'm not taking orders from him."
"Alrighty, handsome~" She hoists the disembodied robot head high.
"Scanning... well, how strange. There are disrepancies between internal database and the layout of the room. My sensors indicate that the closest exit is across the room, yet there shouldn't be such a quantity of cubicles in the room."
You sigh, the tin can's only barely useful and the goblin is still laying unconscious on your shoulder. "Fine, so we go across, then."
"Oh my. It appears that we're not alone in this room."

As much as you want to wield two spoons at once, the fact that you are carrying an unconscious goblin puts a hamper on that plan. Still, you grip a spoon tightly as you and Petunia follow the likeliest course towards the closest exit, stopping every now and then to let Frank navigate. "How much farther is that exit? We've been walking for an hour or so."
"About halfway there, more or less. Oh dear, it seems that we might have company." Frank cheerfully informs.
At once, you and Petunia assume battle stances, each armed with a spoon. The air is tense, as only the ubiquitous fluorescent hum could be heard - wait. You hear something else. A primal sort of aura, skittering of clawed feet on old carpet, low growling desperately subdued like a tiger on prowl.
Something moves with purpose, waiting.

This feels oddly familiar, somehow. You recall back to your revolutionary days, to a certain time and place. Your group had gained the attention of the Enforcers, and you were walking alone in the dockside alleyways, where the warehouses run thick. Suddenly, you felt like you were walking into an ambush, as it turned out you were singled out by the Enforcers to be interrogated... or so you later found out, from the swollen, bruised lips of an Enforcer who didn't run fast enough.
And you remember, you started it off with a mighty kick. Like this one you just did, which knocked off a cubicle divider and blew the cover of a man-sized dinosaur. Well, more like three-quarters-of-a-man-sized? Anyway, it looked bipedal, reptilian, carnivorous... and perhaps intelligent. Oh, and definitely surprised, by the looks of it.

"Petunia! Cover me!" You yell, as you lunge low at the raptor with a good swing of your spoon. The raptor's quick muscle reflexes, however, sent it leaping almost straight up - an opportunity which Petunia doesn't waste. With a downward swing, her spoon connected with the cranium, knocking it out. You roll forward, evading the falling unconscious body of the raptor.
"What! What the bloody 'ell just happened?! Cor blimey!" Oh, it seems like Gobson woke up in the middle of that. "Why are we smack dab right in the middle of the cubicle farm?! Are ye daft, man?! Is that a frickin' stab-chicken?!?!"
No time for this, you think. You can hear low yip-shrieks closing in from the distance, pitter patter of their clawed feet muffled behind numerous dividers.

It's too late... for the raptor's friends, that is. You've gotta scratch an itch, a rush of blood to the head - and another divider falls, the leg-powered explosion feel so divine upon your senses. "COME HERE, CHICKENS!" You shout, as two more confused and agitated raptors falling to your combined spoons.
"Oi! Oiii! What do ya think you're doin' ya crazy wanka?!" Oh right, Gobson's still on your shoulder. You casually drop him off so you can wield the other unused spoon you have, at the same time Petunia hands him Frank to hold.
"I'm impressed, handsome! Looks like we can handle them!" Petunia grips her spoon with both hands, delivering powerful whacks to any raptors creeping up.
"Insane... they're all bloody mad..." Gobson shakes his head.
"I concur, mister Gobson. They are quite reckless."
"By me nana's teats! You're bloody alive? Wait, a clanker's head?!"
"I have neither blood nor life, but I suppose so. Junior wardenbot Frank, at your service."
The bits of conversation you do not quite register, as you're busy rooting and laying out these skulking saurians. You've lost count of how many you've rendered unconscious when-
>>

"Aaauck!" Petunia's cry pierces your ear. You were too busy concentrating your offensive might towards the front, and failed to register a raptor that snuck from behind. She dropped to her knees, blood dripping from her back. This close to the exit, your mind goes blank.

"LOOK, SHE'S STILL BREATHING! WAKE UP! WE NEED TO TAKE HER TO A BLOODY HEALER! SNAP OUT OF IT, MAN!" Gobson pleads with us, voice trembling and starting to get hoarse.
"Save... her? Save her." Your mind struggles as the bloodlust leaves you. Pain start to seep in from the scratches the raptors gave you, who you returned thousandfold.
"Yea, back wiff us, finally? We need to heal her, if you ain't got nothing in your inventory to fix her up, we need to take her to Goblinton."

"There's... there's got to be something here..." Scrabbling through your meager inventory, you look for things that might be medicinal. The soap might help in sterilizing the wound, but you need water for it. The effigy? You're not that desperate to call on unknown edeities just yet. The polygon - you don't know how to open, much less use. The crystalline shards still contain magic, but you don't know of any healing spells. Then you grip Mighty the Mitochondria. Still with a crystal shard embedded into it and positively brimming with ATP. If anything else, it will make for a good sponge, you think.
Then you flich and cover your own eyes, as Mighty decided to glow bright orange. Could it have unleashed the power of the magic crystals? Slipping through your fingers, it dropped straight into Petunia's mangled back like a drop of water into the ocean, stopping halfway to purr loudly. Within minutes, Petunia starts to twitch and regain consciousness. A gasp! A wheeze. "That was some experience. How you doin' handsome?"
"Oh thank the Revolution, you're fine. You really had me worried." You take her arm to loop around your neck.
Wincing as she stood up, Petunia replies. "Not quite fine yet."
"You nutty lady, o'course ya do! Both of you are batshit insane, taking on all the stab-chickens in the farm! Now come on, follow me to Goblinton, y'all need proper medical care and a lotta rest, ye mad lads!" Gobson is amazed.

You set Petunia up against a wall as Mighty is nowhere to be seen (did you dream that bit where it merged with her?), while you amble towards the pile of defeated enemies. From the unfortunate ones who had perished, you pry a tooth loose; or when fancy strikes you, a claw from their feet. To the victor goes the spoils. Gobson's yelling things at you, but you can hardly focus - what do you want? Then you feel the red seeping from your head that made you light-headed.

Oh yeah, head wound, maybe?

You collapse as you were taking your second raptor claw.

As if far away, before you slip into unconsciousness, you hear Gobson speaking something to someone else. "...yeh, crazy lad's gone and forgot his head's bleedin', so I need a tele to Gobl- whaddya mean 'you sure'? This is an emergency! Just do it-"
The world fades to black.

Thanks for running it mate, it's great to see a good quest. The setting is interesting, and the characters are fun.

Maybe next thread we'll get Petunia to live up to her namesake. She did a lot of fucked up shit, but i reckon there's hope for redemption through dong.

We better have sex with Petunia before this quest ends, as was foretold from the first scene we had with her as well as our first scene in the Gaol itself, or I will denounce you a hack and fraud

While we still need to work to get to the level where that's possible, it would seem to me that the best way to stop her non-consensualist problems would be to fuck the degeneracy out of her with THE ULTIMATE LOVE.

It works all well.

That scene always left me wondering if he has Baki's house bugged or some damn thing. He always knows just when to show up and flex on people.
