Last time, on Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Kai! The Pepparazzi plot came to a head with a ploy to portray Peppa in a… less than positive light. Working with Number 21 in order to use a talisman to brainwash Peppa, such a scheme was thankfully prevented thanks to Yurin’s help. With that wrapped up, what next awaits the Tuffle Trio? Good luck, Izzy! Good luck, Peppa! Good luck, Gohan!

You swivel around in a chair as Pantea finishes explaining what she’s learned about a little bug thing Peppa brought to her the other day. “…But still don’t know how to get into the network they’re using. It doesn’t keep any backup saves of what it records, it’s almost like the information just… disappears into the void. Which makes the more mundane parts of this spy robot all the stranger in the contrast.”

“Think it’s using some kind of Magic?” you ask, giving the chair another swivel. You don’t know why but you always loved spinning around in these things.

“That was my first guess, but there’s nothing really lingering on it. Maybe it shorted out when Peppa flicked that candy at it?” She leans back in her own chair, sighing softly. “Well, in any case, mom will be looking it over with some other folks.”

“Back to our plan, then.” You stop spinning and strike a cool pose in the chair, hands together, looking all relaxed and everything. “You said you had some tag team ideas?”

“I did, yes!” Pantea stands up and nods. “I’ve got a few ideas, actually. Since we both know what we each are capable of, we can start on some actual combo moves.Though I also am a little curious about that ‘Nazar’ figure you encountered a while back. Ooooor…” She holds out a few DVD cases of girls in fanciful outfits with big, bold, overly cutsey titles. “I’ve got a few more things we can, ahem, ‘research’ in order to see what else your Mahou power is capable of.”

>A. Let’s focus on the practical. Get some real combo moves going
>B. Oh I am always up for some more ‘research.’ Looks like a couple new ones, too!
>C. Aha, you wanna hear more about Nazar, huh? Well we could definitely plan a trip. Oh, maybe even work my team’s community service into it if the Galactic Patrol gives the OK on that!

You leap up from your chair and grin wide. While it’s quite tempting to bring her along to meet Nazar, this looks FUN. “Well well well, what do we have here?~” you ask as you look them over. One has a girl in a more frilly outfit with whites and pinks and some sort of magical wand, but also several curious cards around her, kinda long and slender like Tarot. Another has two girls on the front, a gingerish blonde in a predominantly black outfit alongside a girl with deep blue hair in a predominantly white getup, the both of them surprisingly in martial arts stances. And the last has a brunette girl in a white and blue outfit that… strangely reminds you of those Gundam shows dad and aunt Maple like so much.

“I went for a bit more variety this time.” Pantea explains. “As fun as finishing up our other series has been, this will probably prove a bit more useful in figuring out some tag team stuff. And generally what you can do with your abilities that you might not have thought of before. You know, do some thinking outside the box.”

“Well what are we waiting for?! Let’s get to it!” you declare.

After getting through a few episodes of each, with Cheelai and the boys even stopping by to watch some with you both (Cheelai pretending to be a bit too cool for them at the start, but slowly getting more invested), you start to get a few ideas. The first series had a young girl trying to capture monsters released from magical cards, gaining abilities as she defeats more monsters and regains more cards. The second is a two girl team series kind of deal, with the duo actually surprisingly martial arts focused. Some of their skills kinda remind you of how your friends and family fight; whoever was in charge of the series’ production clearly did their homework. And lastly, while the third show takes a bit to really kick off, kinda monster of the week as the protagonist tries to magic crystals, a cool and mysterious blonde rival character with an energy scythe upends things pretty hard, the protagonist growing not just in power but surprisingly enough in tactical skill as well.

Although along the way Cheelai does keep up some commentary. “Why DO these things have to dedicate so much time to playing magical dress-up?”

“Abstraction for the viewers, mostly. They don’t take especially long in real time.” Pantea replies. “…That and they kinda help pad out the episodes.” she adds in a hushed tone.

Cheelai glances over at you, raising an eyebrow. “…Is this true?”

“I mean when I do it it barely takes any time at all. Lasts for like, a couple short musical notes.” you tell her. Still don’t really know why it does that but hey you like it. Hmm. Maybe you can modify it to be longer, blasting out some cool theme music when you transform. Yeeaaaah. That’d be awesome.

In any case, this does give you some ideas…

>A. See if you can somehow imbue your Mahou power’s Magic into smaller constructs, stuff you can share with others
>B. Okay Pantea, seeing how coordination might be the key to winning the tag tournament, might there be any things you wanna work on together?
>C. Tactics… hrmn. You know, you really should start using your head more. You’ve got an idea on what a lot of opponents might do, so why not come up with some countermeasures now? Can always adjust on the fly

“Say, Pantea, I kinda want to test something out. And…” You look over to your group and smirk a little. “Hey, gang, you’re coming with. I’ve got an idea I wanna try out, and all of you are gonna participate.”

“Sure thing, boss!” the Para Para bros shout in unison.

“...What exactly are you planning?” Cheelai asks with a suspicious look.

You materialize a water gun and nod for her to follow. “You’re pretty good with a firearm, right?”

Now curious, she follows along ahead of everyone else. Once outside, in the slightly chilly evening air, you transform into your Mahou mode and materialize a couple more, three in total. “What you three are gonna do is try and hit Pantea and I with these. The moment you run out of ammo, however, you’re gonna hand ‘em back to me. Got that?”

“Sure thing, boss!” they cheer together.

And just to make sure you’ve got this right, you get ready to enchant them. If you can, in some way, enchant them so they’ll be able to refill on their own, then you’ve got a working proof of concept of this idea. Buuuut… how will you go about it?

>A. Some kind of talismans on the sides? Sealed to them, that’s a cool look

“Okay, just gotta fill these up…” You create a little mark and seal it onto one of the waterguns, little goat symbols and arcane markings that you’ve learned, with Magic you THINK will keep it constantly refilled.

Key word there “think.”

As soon as you’ve set it and activated the Magic, it certainly does fill up. And then keeps filling. And filling. And instead of handing it off you look at it as it bends and bulges… and finally breaks and bursts, splashing you with frigid water. Made all the BETTER because of the chilly air outside. GREAT. Perfect.

Cheelai stifles a laugh, then asks, “You okay there, boss?”

“Yes. Absolutely fine.” you grumble. Okay, try this again. Clearly it’s something you’ll need more work with, but you can kinda scale it down a bit. Don’t constantly refill. Maybe more just charges of a kind.

Pantea, seeing what you were doing, attempts it herself… to about the same result as your first attempt. “Ah. So that’s the problem. Yeah guess we’re gonna need to experiment some more with these.”

You both dry off and then hand the water guns to the three of your gang, you and Pantea get some distance. “Okay, your goal is to hit both of us, then come to me when you need a refill. Ready to go?”

“Ready!”

“GO!”

Things begin with you and Pantea splitting, dodging out of the way of their shots. It’s just water guns so it’s not like it’s putting anyone in any danger, but you are going to take this seriously. Don Para and Bon Para try to show off at first, but quickly come to realize they’re not even close to hitting either of you. Plus they don’t seem familiar with the water guns, or at least not the ones you’re used to. Cheelai though impresses you quite a bit, quickly coming to understand the limitations of the weapon and being a good deal more tactical with her shots. You’re still way ahead of her, but looks like she’s got quite the keen eye.

As the boys run low on water, they hand the guns back to you and you use the little seals on them to fill ‘em back up. And… they kinda break after you do that. Okay, something to look into later on. But hey, proof of concept! Gonna need more tweaking in the future, but the idea’s at least kinda sound!

…And Cheelai almost gets you in the back of the head, with you dodging just in time. “Oi! Cheap shot!” you call out.

“And you still avoided it.” she replies with a cheeky grin, handing you the now empty water gun. “Here ya go boss.” Narrowing your eyes, you Clothes Beam a white t-shirt over her outfit. “Wh- hey! The heck?”

“Upping the ante, Pantea!” you call out to the purple-haired girl. You then add one over yourself, her, and the Para Para bros. Aaaand just for good measure… you make a water balloon and grin deviously. “You and I are gonna work together on this part. Practice some teamwork. We only get one of these each.”

“...And, uh, the plain white shirts, boss?” Don Para asks as he tugs on his.

“Easy marker. Besides you’ve got stuff on under it. Now let’s go! Places!” You and Pantea move away, the boys and Cheelai spreading out this time to better take cover. “Begin!”

This round they all take a bit more seriously, while you and Pantea try to coordinate better. Works… fine at the start, neither of you really have much issue following the other’s plans, but it’s pretty rough to start with. But, telepathically trying to use some show references with one another gives you both a bit of an edge. The Para bros try to flush you and Pantea together in order to score a direct hit, but you both bait them into getting close enough for Pantea to splash the pair of ‘em with her water balloon!

Cheelai though almost scores a hit on Pantea as she splashes both brothers, forcing her back. The green girl then takes cover behind the gazebo in the yard. Trying to hide, huh? You tell Pantea to try and serve as bait to get her out of her hiding place while you go in for the finisher. Okay, almost got it, looks like she’s taken the bait! You dive down closer to Cheelai and ready the water balloon, tossing it at her… and realize too late that she’s spun her body over and got you dead to rights. While the water balloon does connect, two shots from her water gun already left the barrel by the time you realized what she was doing, getting you in the face and the stomach.

Well. Lesson learned there, you might have underestimated her just a bit. All of you then laugh together, in spite of the frigid water on you. “Hahaha, that was fun, boss!” she declares, shivering slightly. “J-just maybe let’s do it on a warmer day than this next time?”

“Ah the cold water is good for ya, gets the blood pumping!” you respond. “But thanks. This has already proven to be a big help.”

So you’ve got a start on something. Proof of concept. But where do you go from here? Pantea clearly wants to do some more “research” (and you DID only just start those shows), but might be better to actually have the two of you focus on improving this. At the very least get it down to something useful you can share with her. Also some combo moves might be a good idea. But you could also try to see if she’s up for meeting Nazar. Hmm…

You decide to make a weekend out of this, and get Pantea to go along with you on a little trip to Z’S. Working some things out with the Galactic Patrol, the two of you manage to catch a ride with Lapis over to the station above the planet, your gang promising to help out a bit there while you and Pantea head down to the surface.

Though Lapis does make a curious comment when you all arrive. “Sheesh, think I’ll have to start charging if I’m gonna play Taxi all day today.”

“Taxi? Who else are you helping?” Pantea questions.

“Eh, Videl, then Nappa, then you two, and next up is Piccolo.” he replies with a shake of his head. “Anyway, give a holler when you kids are done.”

“Sure thing!” you reply cheerfully, Lapis teleporting away.

Pantea rubs her chin curiously. “Where’s Videl going on a Saturday like this?”

“Where’s Nappa going?” you add.

“Who’s Piccolo again?” Don Para asks Bon.

“Think he’s that Namekian guy boss was talkin’ about before.”

“Focus, boys.” Cheelai calls to them. “Not exactly the happiest to be back here, but eh, worse places to be. Good luck down there, boss.”

“Good luck yourselves! You’ll need it!” You part ways with them and head into the shuttle area with Pantea.

On the way down, you think to mention to Pantea, “The intense gravity here’s pretty good for training, so you’re probably able to get some good gains out of it with your base power increase and whatnot.”

She nods. “So I’ve heard. Honestly just thinking about it gets my mind racing on how things can survive and adapt for so long. There were animals subsisting on Magical artifacts, right?”

“Last we were here, yeah.” you confirm. “Heh, sounds like you’re as interested in sciencing this place up as you are in training.”

She smiles and rubs the back of her neck. “Well… can you blame me? You have an ecosystem adapting, even thriving, on a world where oxygen shouldn’t even be breathable under normal circumstances. I did a cursory glance from what the Galactic Patrol would share and seems there’s still a lot to uncover about this place.”

“All right, all right, don’t go overboard.” you tell her with a laugh. “Gonna try and get in contact with our guy down on the surface, gimme a sec.” Focusing your mind, you sense out Nazar, telepathically communicating with them. ‘Hello once more. We come seeking your wisdom and company, if you’ll have us. My friend and I are here to better hone our coordination, and I could not think of any being better capable of aiding us than you.’

‘{WE ARE CAPABLE OF HELPING YOU WITH YOUR REQUEST, BUT WE WILL REQUIRE YOUR ASSISTANCE IN OUR OWN MATTERS IN EXCHANGE.}’ They’re not in the same city as before, looks like one in the outskirts.

‘I’m sure we can help! What is it you need?’

‘{MAINTENANCE, AND WARDING OFF TRESSPASSERS.}’

…That sounds worrying. ‘What kinds of trespassers?’

‘{KIN OF A MAJIN.}’

Oh. Oh that doesn’t sound good at all. ‘Wait, are you under any threat right now? Should we locate them first?’

‘{NO, THEY POSE NO THREAT TO US. BUT THEY ARE INTERFERRING WITH OUR WORK. PREVENT THEM FROM DOING SO, AND WE WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE.}’

‘Okay, cool, cool. Can do.’ You pinch the ridge of your nose and grumble. “Oi…”

“Something up?” Pantea asks.

“Nazar says there’ve been trespassers here recently, pestering them. Trespassers they identify as ‘kin of a Majin.’”

The confused expression on her face turns into one of annoyance. “…I think I know who they might be. Well, we can probably take ‘em on if they pop up again.”

You fist bump Pantea. “Hell yeah we can!”

You try to sense around, using the Scouter your mech has to try and scan for any inorganic power sources that don’t belong. And… you can’t quite pick out anything. Looks to be about the same wildlife and old machines as before. Guess the intruders are in hiding at the moment. That, or off-world. Either way, not a problem at the moment! “Any things you wanna check out, Pantea?” you question.

“A few, actually. Think I can kinda sense out where that Nazar guy is, we’ll head towards ‘em as I check a few places out.” she replies, already taking to the air and flying off. You follow her, heading to one of the Hakkero reactors you’d seen before. You notice that it looks significantly better than it did before, and there’s a feeling of… stability in the air. The gravity inside is still intense, but about what it was when you were last here. Pantea takes some time going over the main reactor, focusing and trying to sense how the energy inside it works.

“Found anything I didn’t?” you question.

She rubs her chin.“It’s definitely reacting Magical energy with some tangible, physical objects… you mentioned a liquid gold before, right?”

“Laid out like circuits, yeah.” you confirm.

“But… hrmn. It’s doing it in a way that feels like it’s doing more than just generating energy.” She crosses her arms and floats back out of the building, powering up again as she leaves. “Let’s see… you also mentioned that this Nazar thing is trying to… free the rest of their kind, somehow?”

“More or less. Souls are spread across the various ones on the planet. They do still… kinda intend on fulfilling their original goal.” You look forward as the two of you fly off. “Nazar wants to balance out the amount of creation and destruction in the universe, eventually apprenticing under the Great Destroyer to take on such a position and better achieve that goal.” At least that’s how it was explained to you.

Pantea’s expression sharpens, seeming more focused and tense than before. “Not entirely sure I agree with that thought process, but, okay.”

“...Something bothering you about it?”

She rubs the side of her head. “I dunno. I mean, if they’re allowing us to come here, even help them out, maybe their goal is a genuine one. But…” she trails off and mumbles to herself.

“But…?”

“Is this really something an entire species would just, up and agree to?” she asks.

“I trust them, and I’ll vouch for them.” you state confidently. “Did you notice something about the Hakkero that made you think they’re not on the level?”

“Something about it just felt… strange. Like there were redundancies not just specifically for keeping it safe from damage from the outside or power surges, but… like it was supposed to keep things in. It’s… off.”

“If I recall correctly, the planet’s downfall came like, nine million years ago. A being Nazar described as the ‘Planet Eater’ came to their world. This might have been a countermeasure against it, desperate and drastic, to keep their people alive in some way.” you explain to her. “Nazar has been pretty open to giving me answers so far, even when they didn’t like the questions I had, or I didn’t like the answers they gave. They’re honest, if not always welcoming. I believe they’ll be willing to answer any questions you have if you ask them.”

She sighs and gives a nod. “Okay, okay, I get it.”

“The impression I kinda get from them is that of, well… a leader. A leader having to make a painful and desperate choice on doing the most good for their people, even if there were those who didn’t agree with them. I mean, we both kinda have some idea of what that’s like, right?”

Pantea looks to you curiously. “What do you mean?”

“I’m a princess, after all. I’m not really that close to having to reign as monarch, but I do kinda get what the job requires. Representing the best interests of the people the monarch serves. You’re more or less heiress to Capsule Corp. yourself, so if you choose to step up after Bulma retires, you’ll have to be working for the best of your employees.”

She smiles softly. “Yeah. Heh, well put, Izzy.”

The two of you finally reach where Nazar is, finding them hard at work repairing another reactor. The massive octo-dragon’s limbs continue to work as their head moves to acknowledge the two of you. “{I TAKE IT NEITHER OF YOU DETECTED THE INTERLOPERS ON YOUR WAY HERE.}”

“Nope, sorry. Keeping our eyes, ears, and more open if there is a peep of them, though.” you reply. “How ya been?”

“{BUSY.}” Nazar responds curtly.

You notice Pantea’s a little uneasy as she looks over them. Keeping her composure, but at the same time just a little taken aback by the octo-dragon’s presence. She adjusts her glasses as she tries to focus. “Nazar, right? Pantea Briefs. It is… good to meet you.”

Their gaze focuses on her for a moment. “{WE SENSE GREAT POWER IN YOU, THOUGH POWER NOT LIKE IZUMI’S.}” They look down at the reactor again. “{YET YOU MAY STILL BE ABLE TO HELP US ON THIS DAY.}”

You have your mech place its hands on its hips. “So, what do you need us to do? Pantea’s a genius in her own right, so if there are any technical things you need done that were a bit too complicated to explain before, she’s bound to be able to figure it all out.”

“W-well, genius is a bit much.” she adds humbly.

“Don’t undersell yourself!” you comment, then lean closer to her and say in a lower tone, “They can smell lies.” She gulps at that.

“{WE REQUIRE MORE REPAIRS DONE ON THE HAKKERO OF THIS CITY, AND WARDING OFF THE INTERLOPERS SHOULD THEY RETURN.}” they respond.

“How many do you need done?” Pantea questions.

“{A MINIMUM OF TWO. DO MORE IF YOU WISH.}”

“That’s reasonable. Oh! Actually, before we start, got something to show you.” You pull out the miniature Hakkero, still holding it inside your mech, but Nazar clearly notices it. “Little something I’ve been working on back on Earth. It’s set to match the Hakkero of our world. Took a while to iron out, even ended up encountering some Demons while I was studying the real deal.”

The alien’s head tilts, the expression on their already hard to read face growing stranger. They continue to work, but clearly take great interest in what you’ve made. Finally, Nazar speaks. “{YOU HAVE TALENT BEYOND YOUR YEARS, IZUMI. IT IS IMPRESSIVE YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MANAGE SUCH A DEVICE ON YOUR OWN.}”

Swelling with pride, you grin. “Hehe, thanks.”

“You can tell what it is even through her mech?” Pantea questions.

“{YES.}” Nazar replies bluntly. “{HOWEVER, IT POSSESES ONLY A FRACTION OF THE CAPABILITIES IT COULD.}”

“Room for improvement, then. Okay.” Kinda figured that was the case,

>A. All right, how you wanna do this, Pantea? Split up, have you figure it out on your own, or team up so I can show you what I know and get them done faster

“{OUR TECHNIQUES ARE MORE ADVANCED, BUT TAILORED TO OUR WORLD. YOU WILL LEARN BASICS HERE THROUGH OBSERVATION, BUT YOU MUST TAILOR IT TO YOUR OWN WORLD.}” Nazar responds, apparently finally finished with the repairs on the reactor they were working on. “{WE CAN ONLY GIVE YOU THOSE BASICS, UNLESS WE ARE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOUR ORIGINAL HAKKERO.}”

You nod. “Okay, okay. Maybe something to ask Annin about.”

Pantea gives you a hesitant glance, sucking in air through her teeth, then coughing awkwardly as she breathed in dust. “Ack, agh, keh, ugh…”

“{YOU SHOULD BE MORE CAREFUL OF YOUR INTERNALS.}” the octo-dragon comments to her, causing the purple-haired girl to pout at them. “{ARE THERE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS?}”

“Just one! Any pointers for us on our teamwork? You know, some exercises to get us in the mood.”

“{COMMUNICATE THROUGH TELEPATHY ALONE. THAT WILL ATTUNE YOUR MINDS TO BETTER READ ONE ANOTHER.}” They move past the both of you, kinda looking down towards Pantea as they do. “{IT SHOULD ALSO PREVENT YOU FROM INHALING ANY OTHER PARTICULATES.}”

“H-hey!” she calls out grumpily, shaking her fist as Nazar heads off. Shaking her head and exhaling, Pantea looks at you. “Guess we should get started.”

You smirk, and telepathically respond, ‘Guess we should!’

But since Hakkeros absorb energy, we could maybe have them as traps for enemies, where if they raise their energy too much to fight us or a friend properly, they'll have that energy welled up in the reactor's area of effect, so they can't just leave or shoot outside of the place or they'll lose that energy.

You walk Pantea through the process, opening up the reactor’s top and readjusting the lines of it. ‘And where simply recharging lines aren’t enough, materialization is needed in some places, like here.’ You show where a line has been worn out, repairing it by creating a new one with Magic. ‘Seem simple enough?’

She nods. ‘Yeah. Should I give it a try?’

‘Feel free!’

With a smaller section, she materializes a new line for it, keeping the liquid gold contained in it, smiling as she succeeds. ‘Hah, this ain’t so bad.’

The two of you continue to work, and as the reactor starts to power up again. But, this attracts the animals nearby, a few of the giant lizards scurrying towards you both. You shoo one away before it starts gnawing at the structure, though Pantea’s a bit slower on the draw. “Ey! EY! Back up!” The reptile hisses and lets out a quick spit of Lightning Magic, which does zap her slightly, but does little damage. Pantea thwacks it on the head with a small hammer. “Ow! That hurt! Bad lizard! Bad!”

“Hhhhhh!” it grumble-hisses before scurrying away.

‘You okay there, Pantea? I brought some Energy Capsules if you need them.’

‘Eheh. I’m fine, biggest wound was to my pride.’ she replies with a soft laugh.

You look back to the doorways, spotting the lizards peeking out from them. ‘Well, I think they kinda like you! Should we get them snacks?’

‘Har har.’ Pantea responds with her eyes narrowed. ‘…Though that does raise a question, they consume Magic for sustenance, right?’

‘That’s about what we were able to understand for ‘em.’ you affirm.

Pantea looks back at the Hakkero. ‘…Hrmn. Not something that would come about naturally under normal circumstances, though… I guess after a few million years certain pressures would force them into it. Either way, think we should do something to keep them from getting back in here?’

‘Yep! Oh, oh, I know!’ You Materialize a few new doors that lock up tight where the broken ones are. ‘That should do it. Okay, next one?’

She nods, and the two of you head out. But, as you do, you get a vague sense of something off in the distance. Far away from the massive city, out in the desert. ‘…Hey, just a second.’

‘What’s up?’

You fly off towards it, catching glimpse of a large object moving out there. You sense something familiar, and… aha. Scouter is picking up a large machine. You start moving closer, Pantea following you. It’s… coming closer, towards the city. Almost like a-

Is that a lion?

Pantea’s eyes widen. “…Oh. Oh good.”

The lion the size of a house turns to move in a different direction, not really having noticed either of you. You find a place to hide your mech as you observe in the distance, a large craggy rock, while Pantea attempts to get in closer. But, she ends up close enough that the retreating machine stops and picks up on something.

A different lion moves in, and out from it comes a girl’s voice. “What’s wrong? Another limb malfunction.”

“No… no I think I sensed someone.” a more annoyed girl’s voice replies from the first. “Felt… familiar. Like it came from… Videl’s sidekick.”

‘Who is she calling a “sidekick?”’ Pantea grumbles to you telepathically.

“I did pick up on them in the area earlier. Let’s avoid them for now, we still have to finish these tests.”

‘Yeah. You’re right. Still kinda annoying THEY see me like that.’ She pokes her head out, watching as the lions start to move off.

You meanwhile get in contact with the octo-dragon. ‘Hey, Nazar, looks like we’ve got those Majin kin snooping around in our sights. What do you want us to do?’

‘{REMOVE THE INTERLOPERS FROM THIS WORLD. WE DO NOT NEED ANY MORE DISTRACTIONS WITH OUR WORK.}’

Okay, chase ‘em off. Simple enough. Aaaand do have to do something about those lion mechs. You and Pantea follow after them, watching as they run off in the machines. Getting some better readings on them, and they do actually seem to be decently tough. A lot of power in those machines, and even more in the bubblegum twins. …Buubblegum? Buubblegum, yes. That’s what they are now. And they… hey they’re kinda getting away!

Rgh, okay, speed up a bit. At least until you know where exactly they’re going. You follow them for a good 20 minutes, the two going just quickly enough to make it a real pain to keep up without making yourself noticeable. Yet they don’t seem to be going towards any major city complex, not even some ruins.

Almost like they’re trying to… ‘IZZY!’ Pantea contacts you quickly. ‘THEY KNOW WE’RE FOLLOWING THEM!’

Oh. Oh of course they do. The moment you start to slow down, the pair of lion robots build up energy around their mouths and turn quickly, kicking up sand, with it falling back to the ground with the impact of an imploded building. Both lions let out blasts of energy, causing you to need to dodge to avoid it, while Pantea blocks the hit. Thankfully she powers up quickly enough to take the hit, but is still pushed back.

“HAH! Not so tough without Videl looking over your shoulder, huh?!” the more arrogant of the pair calls out. “You think we’re that dumb, huh?! What are you even doing here? You’ve got no business being in this place.”

“Shun Shun, focus!” the other of the pair reprimands.

“She’s right, you know! And you don’t belong here either! EAT THIS, HYDRO PULSE!” You focus Water Magic into your Mech’s palm and fire it down at the lion mech’s head, trying to disable it with a quick, high-pressure focused attack. It connects… but doesn’t leave the machine as dazed as you would have liked, even with the planet’s gravity causing it to strike with enough force to pulverize the craggy rocks around you all.

“Your cool mech isn’t going to distract me you bratty big-forehead value meal!” Shun Shun growls, managing to close the distance with a powerful leap and trying to swat you to the ground. You block it but still get pushed back, landing near where Pantea ended up.

>A. Nazar doesn’t want you here. Leave, or we will MAKE you leave
>B. “Big forehead value meal?” Is that really the best you can come up with, Buubblegum?
>C. …Heh. She said your mech is cool. Good, good

'Which one of you is really in charge here?' too.

…Heh. She called your mech cool. Good, good- ack! Focus! Okay, new plan. ‘Pantea, I’ll distract them, you hit when you’ve got an opening. You’re a smaller target than I am, after all.’ Now, how shall you do this…? “Tch, ‘Big forehead value meal?’ Is that really the best you can come up with, Buublegum?” you call back to her. “Well since you’re strapped for cash, I can get you a pretty good new deal! HALF OFF! HRRAAAH!” You slash out at the lion mech’s head, trying to empower the attack with Ice Magic… and not only does she avoid the attack, but the lion’s massive paw managed to swipe down at you and pin you to the ground.

“Oh you’re going to REGRET that you arrogant little nobody!”

Okay, not the best distraction, but a distraction nonetheless. “Whaaaat, tired of being stick on the bottom of Towa’s chair? Got on your big girl boxers to try the important missions?” She pushes into your mech harder.

“Shun Shun! You’re letting your anger get the better of you! Focus!”

Oh, oh, another idea! ‘Pantea, call her the “sidekick” before you attack.’

‘Ooooh, that’s good. Thanks, Izzy!’ Her body darts underneath the lion mech and you see flames build up around her palm. “You should listen to her, you overeager sidekick! BUUUUURNING... CRUUUUUSHEEEER!” Her palm strikes the mech in the gut as she lifts it up. An explosion of flame erupts, sending the lion tumbling down to the ground, though missing the intended target of the other mech.

Shun Shun seems less than happy about this turn of events. “I WILL TURN YOU INTO A WASABI JELLYBEAN WHEN I’M DONE WITH YOU!”

You get up again, standing beside Pantea. “All right, tell us, what is it you two are even DOING here? Some plot Basilea has? Towa?” You think for a moment before hesitantly adding, “…Fu?”

Shun Shun gets her mech upright again. “We’re preparing, you nosy nobody! We have to make sure these are in top condition for the Promised Day!”

You hear the sound of what is probably the other one facepalming come from the second mech’s speaker. “Yes, why don’t you spill the beans on everything. That’ll make it all the better.”

“...The Promised Day? What, are you planning ANOTHER invasion of Earth?” Pantea interrogates.

“Not everything has to do with your crummy little mudball! It’s-!” Her response is interrupted by her lion mech getting swatted upside the head. “OW! HEY!”

“Stop. Talking.” the other Majin reprimands.

“Tch. Fine. But I’m not going to let those slights against me stand, Haru Haru.” she grumbles.

“Do the two of you want to end up like Churai?” you ask the both of them.

The two get a bit quieter for a moment, you and Pantea standing your ground. Haru Haru finally responds, “Empty threat that that is, we’ll have to make due with the data we’ve gotten for now.”

“Oh come on, we’re gonna go before we clobber them for those insults?!” Shun Shun asks angrily.

Tried to get what I could.

Sorry for the delay again, had to make more calls today that were keeping me busy. For the last four hours. Should be done now, though. We're back:

>>4823173
‘Nice teamwork, Pantea. Even if things didn’t go QUITE as planned.’ you telepathically praise. ‘But looks like these two got too spooked to continue. Though…’ One thing is kinda bothering you. ‘That “Promised Day” thing, what exactly do you think it is?’

‘Trouble, but trouble that doesn’t involve Earth. Probably yet another one of Towa’s dumb experiments.’

‘...Or maybe…’ You step forward and ask the two Majins, “Hey, you two. It’s Ozotto, isn’t it? That’s what your ‘Promised Day’ is all about, right? Him reuniting with his other part… and lemme guess, attaining some form of godhood like Hirudegarn nearly did?”

Shun Shun stops her mech and makes it look down at you. “What is this, an interrogation? You think you’re in charge here? Think we ‘owe’ you something?”

Oh so that’s how it’s gonna be huh? “Okay, be like that. So brave! Keeping your secrets while running away from the threat of mild insults!”

‘...Don’t think that’s working, Izzy.’ Pantea warns, keeping up a defensive stance.

“Though I guess it’s the ‘sidekick’ you’re running from. You talk tough but you’re a bunch of chumps. No wonder you two got sent to a planet no one expected us to be at, you’re clearly not real fighters.” They stay silent but you can almost feel them getting angrier and angrier. “Maybe if you two had something like, I dunno, Fusion, you might actually pose a threat. But as you are now you-” They turn away and start to leave. “Hey! HEY! Get back here, losers!” They refuse. “OKAY, FINE! THEN SCRAM!” You charge up a blast of Lightning Magic in your mech’s hands and launch it at them.

‘Izzy wait!’ Pantea tries to stop you, only to end up doing so too late. The mechs swerve around suddenly and not only avoid the attack, but launch a pair of their own in retaliation.

“BLIZZARD BOMB!”

“VOLCANO BOMB!”

A massive, blazing fireball rockets towards the two of you, hitting the ground with enough heat to glass the sand below you and Pantea. While you avoid the worst of it, it’s still enough that you only barely manage to dodge it. That is followed by a tremendous orb of frigid power blasts out at the two of you, and even missing you it fills the area with a blindingly bright frost, cracking and shattering the glassified sand. When it subsides, the two are gone.

Pantea gives you a slightly annoyed look, putting out a lick of flame that caught her outfit’s left sleeve. ‘Well. Great plan there. Top notch.’

‘Hey, they’re gone, aren’t they? Mission accomplished!’ You give a thumb’s up with your mech. Her eyes narrow. ‘…Yyyyyeeeaaaahhh, kinda overdid it there. So much for reverse psychology.’ you respond. You then look at her and use the Clothes Beam to repair her damaged sleeve. ‘...Sorry.’

She sighs and crosses her arms. ‘It’s fine, it’s fine. Just… you know, something to keep in mind next time.’

‘Yeah, gotcha.’ You look back to the main city you were just in, informing Nazar, ‘The pair have left the planet! Job done!’

‘{…VERY WELL.}’ the octo-dragon replies. There’s something in how they respond that feels… unhappy. Like they were expecting a different result. But that passes quickly as they continue, ‘{ONE MORE REACTOR, MINIMUM, MUST BE REPAIRED. GET TO IT.}’

‘Sure thing! On our way!’ You and Pantea fly back, eased a bit. As you do, you think to her, ‘Those techniques they used were pretty interesting. Seemed designed to affect the area they hit as much as possible, not just the opponent. Might be worth trying something with ‘em… maybe even variants!’

‘You have some in mind?’ she asks.

‘Yeah, yeah! Like, a Storm or Hurricane Bomb, something like that!’

‘Hmm… might be worth pursuing. Altering terrain in some way could be highly beneficial if we know how to maneuver in it and our foes don’t.’ She looks forward. ‘But that’s for later.’

She’s right. Still got one more job to do. So, how will you go about this this time?

>A. Same as before! Work with Pantea and get it done quick!

‘Pantea, you wanna take the lead with this one? I’ll stay back to help and give pointers where needed. And after that maybe check up on the one we fixed prior, see how it’s holding up. Sound good?’

She nods. ‘Sure! Let’s try and get this done quick!’

Yeah, this shouldn’t be a problem. No problem at all. You’ve already done plenty, Pantea’s watched and helped you, together the both of you have all the experience and expertise she’d need. Got this in the bag!

…Or so you hoped.

‘Okay, so you adjust the line here…’ Pantea attempts to put in a new line for one of the reactors.

‘Wait wait, that’s too much! The thickness is off! You gotta continue from where the damaged line is but follow the flow of energy.’ you correct her.

‘But that should better insulate it as the two parts connect, right?’ she points to another damaged section. ‘It’s basically a circuit.’

‘In a sense, but it’s also a fluid pipe, remember? The liquid gold? So it has to follow the flow of that, and if you put too much down at once it’ll throw things off.’ you explain. ‘See how the thickness is off where you laid it down? If that keeps up, there energy that reaches each symbol will be skewed too strongly in one direction.’

Pantea rubs her forehead. ‘Yeah… crap, sorry Izzy.’

‘It’s fine, now, next up…’

You wish you could say things got easier from there, but you kinda had to keep correcting her in small places. Pantea was very much thinking like an engineer, and while that helps, it’s only part of fixing it. Magical runes require their own little sets of rules, and while you can kinda math it out it takes a bit more finesse. Finally, everything looks like it’s all set. You move back and let Pantea lay down the final lines.

‘Man, you really did make the last one look easy.’ she comments. A few of the animals in the area start to congregate again, some smaller ones that seem more like bugs. You shoo them away as Pantea places the lid back on top of of the reactor… And the both of you react too slowly to stop what looks like some… spider-cat hybrid dart inside it. “GAH!” Pantea exclaims, the top slamming shut as she drops it in surprise.

‘Open it open it open it before it starts messing with anything!’ You hurry back over and lift the lid. ‘Get it out of there, quick!’

‘I’m hurrying, I’m hurrying!’ Pantea tries to move slowly and deliberately, trying to not appear like a threat to the animal. And… it darts around the place like it’s a house cat at 3 in the morning. It takes a few tries but Pantea finally catches it, though not after it’s nibbled on a few things. After yet more repairs, she holds the thing out as you let the lid back down. Kinda the size of a kitten, though halfway between cat and tarantula. Pantea looks it in the eyes as the animal tries to play cute. “No reactors for you, lil’ one. If you got caught in there who knows what might’ve happened?”

The animal innocently licks its… paws? Claws? Pads? Whatever they are.

You giggle softly. ‘Aww, I think it likes you, Pantea. Though then again you are good with cats aren’t ya? Heehee.’

She looks over the animal, the… mandibles? Pedipalps? What are those mouth bits called… chelicerae! Yeah, those things! They kinda chitter and wiggle, one leg rubbing at them like a cat might lick its paw. ‘…Kinda worrying about those fangs.’ she comments, noticing small static sparks come off them. There feels like there’s some Magic coming off them.

‘Heeeey Nazar? We fixed up another one of the Hakkero reactors, buuut, uh, one of the animals kinda snuck in and nibbled on the circuits. We did get it out and fix it up but… er, is it venomous?’ You telepathically project a picture of the little thing at Nazar.

After a moment, they reply with… ‘{THE FLUID IN ITS FANGS IS HIGHLY ACIDIC, CAPABLE OF EATING THROUGH MANY MATERIALS. DO NOT LET IT BITE YOU.}’

You clench slightly and gulp. ‘Paaaantea. Very, very carefully put the spider-kitty down. Do not let it bite ya. Spider-bite hurt. Ouch. Ouch spider.’ Crap crap crap. ‘What materials can keep it from getting in, Nazar? Don’t want it biting the Hakkero more.’

‘{THE OUTER CASING OF THE HAKKERO IS MORE THAN CAPABLE OF KEEPING ANY SINGLE CREATURE OUT.}’

You look back at the reactor. Okay. Okay. That’s good. You and Pantea very, very carefully get it and any other animals out of the area, and then hurriedly seal it up. And the moment Pantea lets the spider-kitty down, it bolts away from you both, scrambling along the hallway’s walls and ceiling in an almost spiral pattern. Pantea exhales, looking over to you. ‘Thanks, Izzy. Guess I’m not taking home that stray.’

‘The fact that it didn’t bite you is testament to how well you get along with cats, terrestrial or otherwise. Buuut yeah, might not be the best new pet.’ you respond, chuckling to yourself.

‘{YOUR TASK IS COMPLETE. RETURN TO ME FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTION.}’ Nazar demands.

Welp, looks like they’re finally gonna help you and Pantea on teambuilding! Let’s do this!

Finally back with Nazar, the octo-dragon looks you both over. “{YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TASKS WE HAVE ASKED OF YOU, WHILE MAINTAINING TELEPATHIC COMMUNICATION. IT IS… PASSABLE.}”

Pantea crosses her arms and frowns slightly. “Just… passable?”

“{IT IS CLEAR TO US THAT WHILE BOTH OF YOU ARE CAPABLE OF WORKING TOGETHER, YOU HAVE ONLY THE BASICS DOWN. TO TRULY WORK TOGETHER, YOU HAVE TO BE THINKING ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH. EVEN WITH THE SKILLS YOU HAVE INDIVIDUALLY, WE HAVE SEEN THERE IS A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE TWO OF YOU. OF BALANCE.}”

“So, what would you have us do, then?” she questions.

“{WE WILL GIVE YOU THREE OPTIONS: WORK ON THE BASICS FURTHER, CONTINUE WORKING TOGETHER TO REPAIR MORE HAKKERO, OR ATTEMPT SOMETHING NEW WITH US.}”

Pantea looks over to you, waiting to hear what you have to say.

>A. More Hakkero might be the best for now, at least we’ll be doing something productive

“Well, there is the Metamoran Fusion technique, which both of us… well, both of us know and have done before, just not together. Would we benefit more if we were united in that way, or still physically separate?” you ask Nazar.

“{THE METAMORAN TECHNIQUE IS USEFUL TO INDIVIDUALS SUCH AS YOURSELVES, BUT WILL NOT BE REQUIRED. IT IS TOO… LIMITING. WE HAVE BETTER METHODS.}”

Well… guess it’s best to trust in the expert with this kind of thing. ‘You willing to give Nazar a chance, Pantea? Might be the quickest method to this.’

‘It is worth a shot. Neither of us have really been on our A-game today.’ She looks forward and nods. “All right. Listening to what you’ve got to offer.”

Four tentacles wave in the air and create two octagonal symbols on the ground, glowing with a greenish… kinda yellowish-purple energy. “{THIS METHOD WILL MATCH YOUR WILLS AND MINDS TOGETHER FOR SO LONG AS YOU BOTH MAINTAIN IT. FOR THERE TO BE BALANCE, ONE NEEDS TO KNOW STRUCTURE, ORDER, CREATION…}” Intricate patterns appear within the octagonal symbols, strict, precise, and focused. “{AND ENTROPY, CHAOS, DESTRUCTION.}” The patterns swirl and shift, at times looking like pulsing eight-pointed stars. They finally settle into… a symbol you hadn’t really seen before. Circular, kinda almost like a stylized tree? Canopy at the top, roots at the bottom, with two orbs on either side of the trunk. “{THE UNIVERSE IN ITS TOTALITY REQUIRES BOTH TO FUNCTION. BOTH OF YOU ARE A PART OF THE UNIVERSE, AND GAINING GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF BALANCE WILL GIVE YOU A STRONGER CONNECTION WITH ONE ANOTHER.}”

Pantea looks at it curiously, tilting her head as she analyzes the symbols and Magic as best she can. “That… seems like a lot to take in. I mean I can kinda get what you mean, but it’s…”

“{YOU HESITATE, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT COMPLETELY TRUST US.}” Nazar says to her directly. “{WE UNDERSTAND THIS. WE ALSO WILL NOT FORCE YOU TO ACCEPT THIS. THERE ARE OTHER WAYS.}”

Pantea flinches, feeling like she’s souring the room. “…I’m sorry. I don’t intend any insult.”

“{WE ARE NOT INSULTED. WE OFFER A TOOL OF BALANCE. ACCEPTING IT IS YOUR OWN DECISION TO MAKE.}”

Your mech scans the symbols. It’s substantially more complex than you’re used to, but at the very least feels like it’s in the same… ballpark as the Magic used in the Hakkero. Well…

You step forward, saying, ‘Come on Pantea, let’s give it a shot!’ She inhales and nods, stepping forward as well. Both of you stand on the Magic circles, the energy flowing around you. It pulses and shimmers, you can feel the energy… connect with you. Not move into you, but… more allow you to be part of it. You feel like you’re reaching out, images flashing across your mind of the city outside, the planet, the space station in orbit, and even beyond. The other worlds of the system, the star they orbit, the star clusters and spiral arms of the galaxy it’s in. Glimpses of people, friends, family, even foes… and… there’s somehow a peace to it. A calmness, stillness. A… balance…

And then it stops.

Pantea stumbles forward, stopping herself before she falls, holding her forehead with her right hand. “Ugh…”

“{SO. YOU ARE NOT READY.}” Nazar comments to her. “{IN SPITE OF YOUR BEST WISHES AND INTENTIONS, YOU ARE NOT YET CAPABLE OF SUCH A CONNECTION.}”

She looks up with a frown on her face. “I… okay.” Pantea bows respectfully. “I guess we’ll have to try this another time.”

“{WE WILL WAIT FOR THAT TIME TO COME.}”

Pantea starts to walk off.

‘H-hey wait, wait, hold up! Where are you going? Pantea, wait!’ You start to follow after, but also keep in contact with Nazar. ‘What happened there? It seemed like it was working…’

‘{YOU WERE ABLE TO CONNECT. SHE WAS NOT. SHE HESITATED, AND HER MIND TOOK IN TOO MUCH CONTRADICTING INFORMATION AT ONCE. SHE DID NOT EASE INTO SEEING THE UNIVERSE AS IT IS. SHE IS NOT READY.}’

You catch up to her and walk with her, but speak more with the octo-dragon. ‘How do I help her, then? Are there any exercises you have that we can do together? And… those Magic circles, might I be able to learn those? Or at least the first step into making them?’

‘{YOU MUST BE WILLING TO KEEP YOUR MIND OPEN TO HERS AND WORK ON CONNECTING TOGETHER. SHE IS CAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING MUCH, BUT IN DOING SO SHE IS MORE AWARE OF THE VASTNESS OF THE UNIVERSE. THOSE THAT INHABIT IT. AND HOW MUCH MORE WORK MUST BE DONE TO KEEP IT BALANCED. IF SHE WISHES TO PURSUE THIS, SHE MUST BETTER UNDERSTAND HER CONNECTION TO THE GREATER WHOLE. MEDITATE ON THAT.}’ they reply. ‘{AND AS FOR THE MAGIC, YOU WILL NEED TIME TO LEARN IT. IF YOU DESIRE SUCH, START WITH YOUR MINIATURE HAKKERO. IF DESIGNED CORRECTLY, IT SHOULD GIVE YOU A BASIS TO WORK WITH.}’

‘Okay. Thank you, Nazar!’ Reaching Pantea you slow a bit and ask her, ‘Are you okay?’

‘I’m… ugh.’ She rubs her forehead again. ‘I’ll be honest. That was a bit… much.’ She looks back at you, then hesitantly asks, ‘Izzy, do you REALLY think Nazar has the best of intentions?’

That reminds me of this creepy story I heard.

Once, there was a man, who went by the online name... m o n k e. And he liked to look at pictures of monkeys. But one night, he went on the Dark Web. Everyone told him not to, they said the Dark Web was scary... but he had other plans.

He wanted to watch monkeys in 4K, illegally downloaded. And so he did. But what he found on there... it wasn't monkey! It was the worst thing of all... The Worst Unspeakable Thing of All.

He had to put his credit card information in, which he did, which, I mean, you should never do that, it's a bad idea. But once he put his credit card information in, what he saw was unspeakable horror. It redirected him to https://twitter.com/KatoQm and the man shortly after deleted his computer from existence.

‘Yes. I do. And… I mean, they’ve been sincere so far.’ The two of you exit the reactor and look out into the city landscape. ‘Was there something you saw that made you doubt them?’

Pantea looks up into the alien sky. ‘As I started to see visions and get… feelings of things, there was this sense of something being… off. Or maybe that isn’t exactly the right word for it. Strict? Just… this powerful feeling that there was something that wanted control, to take charge of things.’

Hmm. That does kinda check out. Yet… ‘I get that their values are… different from what we have on Earth, but there’s nothing they’ve done that has been outright malicious or deceitful. I know that being conditionally helpful isn’t the same as being genuinely kind, either, but… well, I know we can trust Nazar to be consistent if nothing else.’ You look up with her. ‘They’re as alien a race I’ve really come across. Even compared to the Demons, Kais, Machine Mutants, you name it. And because of that, they can be hard to… parse, at times, but they don’t seem to truly harbor ill will. If anything, it feels like trying to hurt or deceive those who do them no harm is… beneath them, in a way.’

She exhales and rubs the side of her head. ‘Okay. I think I understand.’

‘Plus, mom, or Aunt Maple, or someone can probably check their intentions if you’re really that unsure about all this.’ you bring up. Probably won’t be necessary, though.

She laughs. ‘Well, that IS an option. But one we don’t need to rely on just yet, I’d say.’

‘Gotcha. So, wanna come back another day? Train more on Earth? I’ve got some things we can try.’

Pantea smiles and nods. ‘Yeah. Should be time to start heading back soon anyway. Plus we should probably bring up what happened with the Majin twins earlier.’

‘Yeah, the Buubblegum Brats and the “Promised Day.”’

All of you end up back home, your gang having done a fairly good job helping out on the Galactic Patrol station, even with a bit of tension between Cheelai and a few of the Patrollers. Pantea, while a bit reassured from earlier, still seemed a bit frustrated with how things turned out. In any case, the two of you end up spreading word about the twins preparing for a “Promised Day.” So, with that all settled, you decide to…

>A. Spend some more time with Pantea. Even if it’s not training, it’s probably beneficial to spend time together

You decide to spend a day resting with your gang, and with Pantea, just to kinda help ease yourselves after all you’ve been through. She could definitely use a break, and Cheelai and the boys have been behaving fairly well as of late. Only fair for you all.

https://youtu.be/NaBwmAEiyLc

And conveniently, Pantea and Bulma have a little thing for you all to try. Bulma proudly shows you a… few little figurines of Yamcha, Nappa, Tien, and Mr. Satan. Look… kinda like the one Peppa was showing you a while back. Huh. “What’s all this about?” you inquire.

“Well, I got approval from all of them locked down, and these are all set for testing. Wanna give them a try?” she asks, motioning to a little arcade-ish table with her thumb.

Pantea places her hands together and silently mouths the word “Please?” at you. Weeeeell…

Looking over the ones they’ve presented, you can’t help but ask, “…Got ones of my mom and dad? Would like an Acer one if you have it.”

“Well, we’ve been working on those. Want to get them OK’d from them first, but fairly sure Acer would be pretty accepting when we talk things out.” Bulma replies.

“I see, I see… well, this does look interesting.” you comment, looking over the figurines a bit. Seem to be made of some pretty tough materials. “Yeah, I’d be up for this. Buuuut first, let’s get a proper demonstration. What do y’all say?” You turn back to your gang and smile. The Para Para bros look rather excited and nod enthusiastically. Cheelai on the other hand just shrugs and sips on her lychee soda, not completely engaged but willing to humor you. Eh, good enough!

Bulma and Pantea grin wide at one another and get two more figurines out, one of Peppa and one of Pantea herself. Bulma with Peppa, Yamcha, and Mr. Satan, Pantea with herself, Nappa, and Tien. They both take their places at either side of the table, and organize the figurines. Little holograms appear of them all, with a rocky wasteland filling the display. Bulma and Pantea explain how it’s a kind of turn based system, with each figurine having their own unique abilities and techniques. Positioning takes precedent, with those further back in the battlefield able to charge up, recover, or activate certain skills, while those up front engage in combat. Ahh, there’s a degree of strategy to it. Interesting.

Bulma keeps Peppa up front, while Yamcha and Mr. Satan stay back. Pantea has all her units move forward, with all of them attacking. But there, Mr. Satan cheers for Peppa in the back, allowing her to hold off any major damage from the attacks, even as Tien uses a Tri-Beam against her. Yamcha then tosses her a Senzu, healing her up from the damage, with Peppa bolting forward and hitting Pantea with a Rasenken. One round done. Next round though, Bulma grins wide, explaining that with her team charged up enough, she can use Peppa’s other skill: Transformation. The hologram powers up and then transforms into a Super Saiyan, and with this sudden boost of power she quickly overpowers Pantea’s team, dealing a KO on the hologram Pantea.

Oh this does look fun… and kinda gives you some new ideas!

With the match done, Pantea approaches you all with a wide, sweet smile. “Well? What do you think, anyone wanna go a few rounds?”

The Para Para boys all cheer out a “YEAH!” and get in closer, looking over the figurines. Don Para especially seems rather taken by it. “Well well, this is a neat little trick you folks got. I think I’ve seen a few other planets use holograms like this for entertainment, but these lil’ figurines are pretty cool.”

“We’ve been working on ensuring they’d be as durable as possible, took some careful experimentation and analyzing molecular composition in order to get them both tough and able to be mass produced.” Pantea explains. “Actually, after we’re done, if you’d like to take one of them with ya, we’d be totally fine with it. “Cheelai, how about you take first pick? Set up what team you want.” you tell her, pushing the figurines her way.

Skeptical still, she nonetheless looks over the assorted fighters, picking Peppa, Nappa, and Mr. Satan. Which leaves you with Yamcha, Tien, and Pantea’s figurines. With that set, the two of you take your places and start up the game. You look over the three you have, and with the holograms starting up, you see that Pantea actually has a special skill that activates when she’s on the same team as Yamcha… and that Yamcha and Tien have another of their own. Okay, this looks good!

https://youtu.be/Z6bNVXyC3Hs

You move Pantea’s model forward, while Cheelai has Peppa and Nappa together. Well, might have to be careful with this one. The battle starts off, with Nappa attacking first, doing some decent damage, followed by Peppa, cutting things close. You gulp as you see Peppa start to charge a Rasenken, but then Yamcha jumps in and blocks the attack. Mr. Satan’s cheering keeps Pantea from doing any significant damage in retaliation. Cheelai’s expression lights up a bit. “Huh… well hey, what do you know? Looks like I’m pretty good at this.”

So the first battle’s over… but you set Yamcha and Tien back for a reason. Their special skill: Fusion! The two holograms preform the dance and combine into an even stronger warrior, Tiencha! The power boost from Fusion is able to turn the tides in your favor, and you set Pantea and Tiencha forward! Cheelai attempts to field all her fighters to hold off the attack, but Peppa hasn’t gathered enough energy for Super Saiyan, unable to catch up with the Fusion’s power. Pantea is able to hit with a Shinespark while Tiencha uses a Wolf Fang Volleyball Fist to seal the deal.

So. Now you can kinda better get the strategy here. And it might be useful in the Mifan Tournament. Keep the non-active tag partner engaged somehow, be it powering up, ready to take a hit, cheering and pumping the active fighter up, or even just getting ready for a finishing technique. But it also means the active fighter needs to be engaged with their partner; just going all out from the start isn’t gonna score you that many victories.

Plus, just imagine what you can do with Multi-form! Ooooh there are so many strategies you can try!

Cheelai pouts a little. “Aww. Almost had ya… hey, one more!” she demands, suddenly quite a bit more enthused by the game.

You giggle a little. “Well, depends. Anyone wanna take next?”

You sit with Cocoa as the credits roll, and the movie she’s been waiting for, for so long, finally ends. It was… interesting, to say the least. Humans apparently incapable of really tolerating the planet in the movie because of the atmospheric composition, so they work alongside a race of aliens native to the world (played by the Snackians) to mine the Blue Aurum native to the planet. Humans can act through sort of… brain-projected vat-grown clones of the natives to better operate on the field, but through that there’s a creeping sense that the massively powerful company responsible for it isn’t exactly on the level.

There’s a romance between the main character and a planetary native that develops, but also a slow unveiling of a conspiracy behind the mining operation there. Subtly taking more and more from the natives and forcing them into squalor, planning to even destroy their main settlement to mine the largest amount of Blue Aurum on the world. A big battle breaks out against the shady company and the natives, with the natives pushing them out and the company’s actions attracting the attention of the Galactic Patrol, which is able to help resolve the conflict and keeps the world under protection. The human protagonist ends up joining up with the rest of the natives.

Overall the plot of the thing isn’t especially new, but the actors did a great job, and the special effects really blended well with the natural environment. You look over to Cocoa and… heh. She just has this starstruck look on her face, smile wide and bright. “So I take it you liked it?” you ask in a slightly teasing tone.

“Loved it!” she responds, trying her best to keep her voice down. “How about you, Peppa?”

After making a mental note of the dreamy, awestruck face she has, so you’ll be able to make a little portrait for her later, you give her an enthusiastic nod. “Mostly, yeah! …Though if I’m being honest I kinda liked more of the effects and characters than the plot.”

“Oh?” Cocoa inquires, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeeaaaah… it was kinda standard, if I’m being honest. But the effects blended into the environment amazingly well, and the acting was top notch. Plus it’s not like it was bad, just… little by the numbers, room for improvement.” You sit back a bit, watching as people start to leave. Tch, don’t they know? “Wanna stick around for the end of the credits? Might be something at the end, teaser or somethin’. Lotta movies doing that these days.”

She nods and sits back with you, watching as the credits roll. “The cinematography was really good too, I’d say. Not just effects, but the camerawork, framing, it was all expertly done.”

“Almost like you’re seeing a moving painting, right?” you ask.

“Yeah. It’s so expertly crafted, and-” She stops as she sees a something in the credits. “Hey… hey, Peppa, look!” she points out, still trying to keep her voice down.

…Well huh. A special thanks to the Galactic Patrol and Earth’s Champion, Son Peppa, for keeping Anesidora safe. There are a few small surprised gasps and even cheers from the remaining audience. You bashfully rub the back of your neck. But, with the credits finally over, something starts to play. There’s a close up on the natives’ village, and the city-sized tree that it’s built around and in. The camera then twists and turns through branches and moves through the trunk, until it finally ends up in a small cavern. The sound of metallic footsteps echo through the cavern. Two voices begin to talk with one another, one through speaker, and the other… sounding like a more minor villain from earlier.

“You’ve managed to avoid their notice so far, but we still want results. This better be worth it, especially with the Patrol on our asses.”

“Oh don’t you worry.” the villain responds. His Battle Jacket mech suit moves deeper, until it finds a large, glowing, crystalline structure. “The box has already been opened, just a matter of time until we’ve got someone new to bankroll this. Someone that not even the Patrol can stop.” The last shot is an ominous image of… what looks like some lawyer-friendly version of one of the PTO ships?

You and Cocoa finally leave with the rest of the audience. “Well that’s a stinger. Already a promising start of things to come.” you tell Cocoa. “By the way, wanna get any dinner? My treat!”

“Oh now you’re spoiling me.” she responds with a giggle. “But might be good to get some real food in me that… you know, isn’t popcorn and candy and sugary slush drinks.” Cocoa then pokes you in the shoulder. “And you did have quite a bit yourself already. I’d be asking if you could even fit anything else in there if I didn’t know you better.”

Cheekily you whistle. Theater food might be pricey and… probably not the best for you, but eh, you’ve powered through worse. The two of you contact your parents and let them know you’re both having some food together, and you take Cocoa to a nice little theme restaurant nearby, cutely based on movie studios itself.

Although while you’re there, you do end up getting a few fans surprised to see you, popping in to ask a question or two or for an autograph. Cocoa chuckles as she watches you. “Ah, my celebrity girlfriend, taking me out to dinner while still making time for her adoring fans.”

>A. Ah shucks, you say that now, but some day you’ll be the famous actress taking ME to dinner!
>B. I can focus on us if it’s too distracting. Sorry about that, heh
>C. So, the Pepparazzi’s all taken care of, I’ve got more training with Melee coming up, and we finally got to enjoy that movie together. Anything else you’ve been wanting to do?
>D. So, dinner, dinner, what do you want for dinner? Plenty of things to pick from. Steaks, fish, clams, chicken, dinosaur, burgers, soups, oh hey they even have breakfast for dinner!

You bashfully giggle. “Ehehehe. Aww shucks, you say that now, but soon enough you’ll be the famous actress taking ME out to dinner!”

Cocoa laughs and tries to hide her face a little. “Did you seriously just say ‘aww shucks’ to me?”

“Yep! But I do mean that. Also, sorry if it’s distracting. I can focus more on us if you’d prefer.” you tell her apologetically.

“Heh, more worried you’re gonna run off to try and solve yet another big crisis.” she responds, sticking her tongue out at you playfully. “And, well, still a few years off at best… but thanks for the vote of confidence.”

You look over the menu a bit, spotting all sorts of things you wanna try as you continue talking with her. “So, Pepparazzi’s dealt with, Keli and Melee are finally gonna train together with me soon, and we finally got to enjoy that movie together. Anything else you’ve been wanting to do?”

“Hmm… you know, maybe we could do something around Christmas or New Years...” she replies. “Oh! Actually, we’ve got another play coming up right before Winter Break. Think you’re up for it?” Cocoa then leans in, slyly asking, “Without tossing any undergarments into the air, that is.”

You hold up the menu to hide your blushing face. “Cocoaaaaa…” Ugh. Never gonna live that down, are you? …Oh hey they do have a lot here. Chicken and steak and burgers and fish and dinosaur and ooooh they have breakfast for dinner! Could get some of that, and some of that, and some of thaaaat… oh huh, they’ve got that sandwich mom likes, the Monte Cristo. Onto the bill it goes! After getting enough stuff to feed a village, you chow down. Cocoa went for a much lighter, but kinda cute alternative: pancakes shaped like film reels… with a chocolate malt on the side.

>A. Actually, do you need any help setting things up for that play? I’d be more than willing to pitch in

“Actually, do you need any help setting things up for that play? I’d be more than willing to help out.” you offer, finishing off some steak and eggs.

“And the undergarments?” she teases.

“I make no promises.” you respond cheekily. The both of you laugh at that. “Say, since we’re on the topic, wanna head to Natade Village with me some time? I know we talked about it before, but wanna check again.”

“Actually, sure. Might be a good weekend trip.” she agrees. “You have been pretty set on that trip, so why not?”

“Great!” You telekinetically march some steak fries towards you, downing a couple of them. That does get a few brief, but not especially surprised stares.

“You’re playing with your food again.” Cocoa points out, then pokes one of them with her fork and quickly downs it.

“Noooo, Sgt. Tater, he had a family…!” you quietly but overly dramatically exclaim in mourning.

“Not bad, but could work on the delivery.” Cocoa critiques. “Besides, he wasn’t long for this world anyway, just look at his comrades.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” you state as you munch down on another fry, tail swaying behind you. With those done, you next add, “Any other places you wanna head to? Little trips, you know.”

“Hmm… I’d have to think on that, but if we can get our families to OK it, might like a trip to another planet, if you’re willing.”

“Oooh, that sounds great!” Might be good to find some little off-world places to hang out at. Not like it’s a hard trip for you, after all. Hmm… “How about any things you’d like to learn to help with acting. Might be useful having something like, say…” You use your telekinesis to make one of the over-easy eggs float up like a flying saucer… and add spooky noises under your breath. “Eh? Eh?”

She’s… sceptical, but doesn’t completely turn down the idea. “I mean, would be useful to have something to prevent, say, wardrobe malfunctions, but one step at a time.”

“Gotcha, gotcha.”

You finish up your meal…s… and finally ask for the bill. And… hooh. Well. 30,000 Zenni. Ah well, you did eat a lot of the pricier dishes. Plus they gave you a lot of dinner mints, three for each of the meals you had. Ahh, that was fun.

“Wanna check around the area for a bit? Might be nice to just have some fresh air and look around the area, have a bit of fun on this cooler night.”

“Sure. We’ve still got time, right?” she asks.

“Yeah, got about…” You check your phone real quick. “45 minutes left.”

Coca stands and offers a hand to help you up. “That sounds like plenty of time to me, come on, let’s go.”

https://youtu.be/K4xz2LDZZ6Y

Just to be on the safe side, you call Cocoa’s parents and make sure they know you’ll have her back on time. With that settled, the two of you walk around together. You spot a bookstore that seems kinda neat, but it’s closed at the time. Ah well, make a note to come back there later. Does end up being a smaller little trinket store still open, the pair of you getting a couple things to remember the night by. You also pop a couple breath mints into your mouth, juuuuust in case.

“Hey, Peppa?” Cocoa begins. “Thanks for tonight.”

You smile sweetly at her. “Were you nervous? Be honest.”

“Eh, maybe a little.” she responds, the two of you heading across a raised walkway to get a better view of the city at night. “I’ll admit that I do worry from time to time, about all the crazy stuff that you get up to. That maybe you’d be a bit too… busy, or even tense, to really relax. But, I guess that’s not much a problem. You’re… heh, well, always gonna be ‘you.’” Cocoa gently smiles at you. “It’s been fun.”

The two of you look over the railing, you scooting a bit closer and kinda gently hugging her waist with your tail. Soft crescent moon hanging up in the sky, city lights still bright and vibrant below. “Rather pretty tonight, don’t you think?” You let out a little yawn. Oof. Okay might be a bit later for you than you realized. The sleepiness almost evaporates when you feel Cocoa’s hand gently stroke your tail. “H-hey!”

She giggles deviously. “No falling asleep until I’m at least back home, got it?”

(cont.)
>>
>>4840795
“Yeah, yeah.” you grumble, blushing a little. “Just be careful with the tail…”

A sly, teasing smirk creeps across her face. “You know I thought you’d be more prepared for that. Maybe you let your guard down around me too much~”

“Maybe it’s just that I know I can trust you. Even if you’re a little sneaky sometimes.” …Thaaat said. Her guard’s down too. Chance! “Hey… Cocoa?”

“Hm?” She turns her head… and you press your lips on hers. “Mh!” She’s surprised… but pulls you in tight. She even kinda picks you up a bit… a reminder to you that she’s still, and probably always, gonna have some height on you. A bit of a longer kiss than the ones you two had previously. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Finally the two of you break the kiss… and she pokes your forehead. “You romantic dork.”

“You liked it~” you tease.

You and Cocoa walk forward, looking through the area. It’s still fairly rural, but it seems to be doing a bit better than it was last time you were here. A blonde girl pokes her head out of one of the windows of the homes, gasping excitedly in surprise. “Mom! Dad! Grandpa! It’s her! It’s her!”

That gets the attention of a number of villagers, most of them gathering around you. “Son Peppa! It is so good to see you again!” the village’s mayor cheers.

“Hi everyone, you all look well.” you tell them politely.

“We are eternally in your debt, young lady. Saving our village thrice over, from the monster, from the kook, and from our deep financial problems.”

“Ah, should introduce you two. Cocoa, this is Coco. Coco, this is my girlfriend Cocoa.” you tell the blonde girl kindly.

Cocoa raises an eyebrow and gives you a look. “…Aha. I see now.” She then kneels a bit and smiles at the younger girl. “Nice to meet you, Coco.”

“Girl…friend?” Coco repeats, tilting her head. Quietly she mumbles, “Like… that kind of girlfriend…? …You can do that?”

“Yyyyep.” Cocoa confirms. “Been together for a few months now, actually. Though we’ve been friends ever since we were little. How do you know her?”

Coco seems wowed a bit. “Well… Peppa saved me from becoming… the next sacrifice to the monster that was attacking our village, along with her other friends.”

“Glad we came when we did.” Ah, that reminds you, “Speaking of that, and the disgraced priest, he ended up involved in quite the conspiracy not too long ago. Big, dumb thing involving all sorts of people and even an alien parasite.”

The village’s mayor sighs. “I must apologize for that, then. He was banished from our village, but we though he would keep to his usual kook tricks. We had no idea he would seek revenge like that…”

“Eh, all water under the bridge.” you say, waving your hand. “He’s been dealt with, and will probably be put away for a long time. Say, anything coming up here? Festivals or the like?”

“Ah yes, there actually is. We have the Winter Festival coming up later in the month.” He starts to explain a bit about it, you, Cocoa, and Coco all walking with him. Sounds like a charming little thing, and kinda reminds you of the Yule festival up in Jingle Village. As you walk, you see some greenhouses, better sanitation facilities, even the fields, though already harvested, look better than before. There is a bit of frost up north near the mining facilities… which, huh, they look different.

“Pardon me, but what’s up with that?” you ask, pointing to the large gathering of transport aircraft.

“Oh, oh, they showed up after the ship was discovered!” Coco tells you.

“...Ship?” you repeat.

She nods excitedly. “Yeah! It was some kind of pirate ship. Stuck way up in the glaciers.”

“They have been… mostly courteous with us, in spite of a few grumblings between miners and the researchers up there.” the mayor adds.

Oh you gotta. You GOTTA. “Pirate ship, ya say? Yahar! That sounds like a mighty fine trip. If ye be willing to let us peruse the ship at our leisure, of course.” you tell the mayor, who’s… confused, but able to understand you, at least. “That bein’ said, Bulma never did once mention anythin’ about finding a… gentleman of fortune up here in any of our prior talks. Makes me wonder what this be about.” You turn your head over to check if Cocoa’s up for joining you.

She stares with narrowed eyes. “More than a couple months late to be trying this.”

“Yar! But it be a ship belongin’ to adventurers of the sea!”

“And second of all,” And in an almost flawless turn of phrase, without skipping a beat, Cocoa continues in a more subtle but genuine tone, “I had done thought I trained ye better! Ye need to enunciate! Keep th’accent consistent! Seein’ ye still have much t’ be learnin’ from ol’ me.”

You have a sneaky, cheeky, catlike smile on your face, and bow to her. “Aye, Cap’n. Methinks that Pirate Robot woulda’ appreciated an excursion like this.”

Coco looks at the both of you like you arrived from another planet, while the mayor merely laughs. “Ah, youth.”

Switching back to a more normal tone, you ask Coco, “Do you wanna come with? If your parents are fine with it, that is.”

She tilts her head, then ponders for a moment. “Umm… hmm…” And… she then smiles brightly. “Okay! Sounds like fun!”

“Yahar! Let’s be on our way!”

Thanks for that.

Sorry again everyone. Work was a massive pain in my ass today. I don't mean to keep doing this, but things at work have been... less than great these last few weeks. Gonna be a shorter night tonight, but we are back:

>>4842945
You bring them both up to the mines with you, spotting a few of the researchers in the area. A quick chat at the very least seems to imply they’re on the level. The ship they’ve found up here is actually a vessel that dates back about 300 years… and if you remember correctly, that’s about the time King Piccolo was attacking Earth. Huh. Interesting. So part of it is an archaeological thing. You’re all actually welcomed and encouraged to check the ship out with them, too, so that’s encouraging.

Cocoa shivers a little. “Dang, it’s really feeling like winter up here.”

“Huh? But it’s not winter yet…” Coco comments, confused, and also clearly taking to the weather better.

“Ah, Cocoa’s not really as used to this kind of weather. City snow is usually a bit different from mountain snow.” you explain.

Your girlfriend pouts a little as you march up closer, but that fades from her face as soon as she spots the ship. “Huh… well would you look at that.”

Hmm… well, that’s definitely some kind of age of sail ship, though as you get closer, you see that the exterior hull is made from more modern metals, and even the bits that look like wood are… strange. Like it was soaked in some weird fluid.

“Try circulatin’ yer Ki around yer body.” you tell Cocoa. “It be keepin’ yer body warm and alert.”

She raises an eyebrow, but then gives it a try. Doesn’t work quite as well as it does for you, but with her training she can kinda manage it, feeling eased just a bit. “Aye, that’s better.”

Turning back to the researcher, you next ask, “What more can you tell us about the place? Any things we should look out for if we head in?”

“Well, a few things did manage to survive the centuries up here, derelict and frozen.” he begins. “Mostly we have uncovered things like supplies, personal belongings, loot, even a couple of the crew. Ah, but we did also find some sophisticated tracking systems and the odd curio or two.” He chuckles. “Ah, pirate ships are always a fun look into the past. They tend to have artifacts from various walks of life.”

“Wait, tracking systems? What were they tracking?” Cocoa asks.

“Well, from what we’ve been able to determine, it was used to track certain lifeform signatures, though it may also have been used to locate specific energy signatures.”

…That does definitely sound like something a group hiding from King Piccolo’s minions, though he does present an alternative. Hmm. Curious. Well, this is all the more curious, and getting you all the more excited! You head on in with everyone and take a look around. Entering through an opening in the hull, the researcher carefully guides you all through the lower decks.

It’s an eerie place, but you’re not quite picking up any strange Ki signatures at the very least. So you try to keep your eyes out for any things that seem unusual. Cocoa does seem curious about the place, but isn’t really sure what to look for as she walks through the area with you all. Coco meanwhile stays close, a little spooked by the uncomfortable silence. Though she does do a double-take when she spots a little stuffed bear encased in a block of ice.

Sorry again for the delay. Had to stay behind and talk with a few more employees today. We're back now:

>>4844870
“How much of the ship have you guys mapped out?” you question.

“Currently, we’ve gotten about 64% of the ship. Mostly the lower decks: hold, engines, some crew quarters, and a good portion of the gun deck and helm. We’re working on getting the rest of the main deck, mess hall, and captain and quartermaster quarters done next.”

“What deck is the tracking system on, then?” you ask next, sensing out and also getting your goggles to scan over the area. Huh. Actually picking up weak energy signatures, though not mobile ones at least. One near the stern, one near the bow.

“That would be up in the helm section. Do watch your steps should we head up there, some sections of the ship have caved in or collapsed due to the condition it’s in.” he warns all of you.

“Eh, no prob. I can step lightly.” You float up a little and carefully move through the area.

“Show-off.” Cocoa comments teasingly.

You just smile, though look back at the teddy bear encased in ice. You use telekinesis to try and take hold of it gently, lifting it up and getting a better view of it. “Huh… held up surprisingly well for something as old as it is.” you comment lowly.

Coco takes a step closer to it, tilting her head side to side. “Do you think this belonged to one of the pirates?”

“Or they took it from some place.” Cocoa notes. “Though… maybe it was a gift for family back home somewhere.”

“Ah! Useful.” the researcher exclaims as he sees the floating icicle bear. Bearcicle? “Very well, Son Peppa, if you’re willing, might you grab a few more things like that? You know, just in case we find any more objects of interest.”

“Sure thing, sir! Just let me know when and where. Though… by the way, is there anyone else onboard this ship currently?”

“At this time, no, most of us are back at the base camp going over some of the artifacts we’ve collected.”

You check your goggles again. Still getting some readings… mechanical, then? “Er… any probes or robots or the like you’re using?”

“Oh no, not at this time. They’re all offline at the moment.” he replies dismissively.

Cocoa starts to pick up on what you’re implying, getting her own goggles out and checking herself. “…So, we’re the only ones around here, then?”

“Indeed. Oh I do know how eerie things may be, but rest assured there is no one else here. Just the old stories this vessel is waiting to tell.” he confirms.

“Because we’ve detected some energy sources active in the ship.” you tell him. Cocoa confirms, while Coco gulps nervously, moving closer to the two of you.

He’s surprised by this, and gets a Scouter of his own out, tapping it a few times to get a better read of the area. He rubs his large chin contemplatively. “That’s strange… one is in the helm. Given these readings it would appear something’s started up. Well, doesn’t look to be too much an issue, if we keep watch on it.”

“Right. Okay. Just gonna keep thoughts about a haunted frozen ghost ship out of mind.” Cocoa comments grumblingly. She then watches as you float ahead of her, sighing as she tries to maneuver around the tilted floor. “Okay, might not be showing off, but you are making this look easy.”

“Aw come on, I’ve just had loads more practice.” you respond. Going back to your accent attempt, you add, “Yahar, besides, ye be able to float somethin’ like this if ye really put the mind to it. Keep yer body focused and calm!”

She huffs a little. “That be easy for ye t’ say.”

“Focus on it t’ keep yer mind off any imagined spooks.” you recommend. Switching back to a more normal tone, you remember to ask, “Oh, right! I don’t think I know your name, sir. And are there any others you have contacted about this? I’m sure the Royal Academy of Science would jump at the chance to go over this kind of thing.”

He chuckles a little. “We are indeed. And I am Dr. Ptichka, of the Academy. I joined up with Capsule Corp. a while after this discovery was made.”

“Ahh, okay. Eheh, sorry.” You rub the back of your neck. Whoops.

“In any case, shall we make our way to the helm?” the researcher asks.

“Absolutely. Let’s head on forward!” you respond, but look back at the two other girls as they seem a little hesitant. “Hey, listen. I know this place might be a bit spooky, but we’ll all get through with it in one piece, promise.” you tell the other girls. “All of us.”

Reassured a little, Cocoa and Coco nod and head along with you and the researcher. “I do have to ask, why are you keeping the teddy bear?” Cocoa questions, noting the ice-encased plush hovering about a meter and a half away from you.

“Might be worth bringing back. Never know!” you tell her, then think to ask the researcher, “Say, what do you know about the state of robotics 300 years ago? I ask because the ship might have some of ‘em running around. I mean heck Capsule Corp. had a robot that lasted… what, 80 years underground in some ruins?”

“And a cave hosted a group of combat-capable robots that dated back 300 years.” he points out, smiling a little. Oh yeah. Pirate robots. Eheh. “There could be some form of robots around here, but nothing capable of any significant damage. More likely some minor repair machines, if that is what the Scouters are picking up.”

As you move through the ship’s interior, heading up to the helm, you get a sense of something about the ice being… unusual. Parts of it look like they weren’t naturally accumulated over the ages, but were kinda just… shoved in there. You don’t actually detect anything off about them, but there’s just something weird about it.

Yet strangest of all it still feels warmer inside rather than outside. Maybe it’s like an igloo? The ice trapping the warmer air in? Hm. At the helm you actually find a corpse, hunched over some modern-looking equipment. In fact the whole thing looks like it could come right out of a modern ship, save just how deteriorated it all looks. And…

…Well, you’ve found the source of the energy.

“Now this is most peculiar.” Dr. Ptichka comments. A station is active, what looks like some form of radar. “Hmm… it would appear that something’s tripped the sensors. An artifact of some sort activated.”

“Say, Cocoa, Coco, check around ahead a bit.” you recommend the pair as you look at the radar screen again. Hmm. Early Dragon Radar? No… timeframe doesn’t match up. It… COULD be whatever is in the Captain’s Cabin… but you have an idea.

Dr. Ptichka rubs his chin as he sees you turn around. “Have you happened upon something, Son Peppa?”

“Maybe.” you reply, slowly moving the ice-encased teddy into the room with you all.

Coco spots what looks like a little generator, following the line to it. And from there, Cocoa’s able to deduce something: “If I were to guess… it seems like an automated response. It may have been in some kind of standby mode…? Hell of a long time to be in standby.”

“Check the scanner.” you tell the researcher. You move the bear in closer.

“...Huh. It appears to be moving. But what could-”

There’s a low cracking sound. Still encased in ice, the… bear’s head moves. And then you finally feel energy. An… uncomfortable energy. Not STRONG, but… “wrong.” It feels like…

Hell.

The actual realm of Hell. You were only there briefly when the dead walked the Earth, but you’ll not forget that feeling for a long, long time. The cracking begins again, and finally a sudden, loud shattering of ice can be heard. You get in front of everyone to protect them… and some of the ice gets on you, spreading across your body. Crap! The bear bolts away unnaturally quickly.

“PEPPA!” Cocoa shouts in horror.

You start to power up, but only use as much as you need to hold it off. Just. Just gotta hold out. Watching as the bear tries to run still, you grunt angrily through the ice trying to encase you. “Not. This. Time.” It DOES move terrifyingly quickly, but you’re quicker. You lift the thing off the ground and hold it in midair, your arm outstretched as your vision ends up covered in a bluish ice. You still keep hold on the bear, though, still putting out more energy to try and get the ice off you. Gotta… keep them safe. Circulate energy through you, like you showed Cocoa. Gotta… keep focus.

You hear muffled sounds through the ice. It’s… cold. Gah! No, focus, Peppa. You… you start to hear better. The ice is melting away! Haha, nice try, spooky bear, but Son Peppa doesn’t give up that easily! A golden glow surrounds your body as you turn Super Saiyan, the ice melting and… somehow evaporating completely. Huh. You weren’t putting that much energy out. Wait… it’s more like it’s vanishing? Weir- “PEPPA!” Cocoa exclaims as she almost jumps on you, hugging you tight. “Don’t scare me like that you dummy!”

“Eheh, sorry.” you respond sheepishly. “Oh, and just a sec: CLOTHES BEAM!” You encase the bear in a frost-resistant cloth, wrapping it up nice and tight. “Whew. Well, guess we’ll have to get this guy outta here. Might be good to be extra careful with your research going forward, doc, especially if there are things like this still hiding in the ship.”

He exhales in relief. “Most certainly. Thank you for your quick work, Son Peppa, that could have gotten to be a real problem.”

“No prob!” you reply with a bright smile.

Starting to walk out of the ship, you still holding the teddy a good distance away from you all, Coco looks in amazement at you. And… you hear her quietly question Cocoa, “Are you dating an angel?”

She laughs. “Well, one that’s a little overly confident and big-headed sometimes… but yeah, you could say she’s my angel.”

All right folks, that's all for this thread. Thank you all so, so much for playing and sticking around for so long! Did y’all have fun? It might be quite a while before next thread as I try to get things a bit calmer at work. Will try to be around for a bit if there are any questions. And please, make sure to stay safe out there.

Thank you Kato, for all you've done for us. It's been said before but these last six years of Tuffle Quest have been a blast. Hope things settle down for you work-wise, and that you're able to get a vacation or something soon.
