Previously, lightly interrogating Ms. Wilma about her past caused an interdimensional portal to open due to the mental stress she was going through, and inadvertently sucked Matilda and Oliver into it – leaving Ms. Wilma unconscious after that. Or something like that... In reality, the thing you saw was Wilma’s tears turning into a giant bubble and the dojo duo of dummies getting sucked by it – in actuality, you have little to no idea what is going on, but it’s safe to assume is San’s ability or something.

After covering your bases, you decided to follow them into the bubble dimension, where you find yourself 25 years into the past (If your calculations are correct) and unsure of what to do, except for finding those two! Right now, you’re going to Shiva Public School because you took the bus and it was going there. You made some friends along the way and that’s really neat. You just reached your destination, so you’re actually going to school in another timeline, dimension, dream or whatever this is supposed to be… How exciting…

As you step out of the bus, a policeman is talking to your new friends Grace and Mirjam…

“Mr. Kobashi, is it trrrrue you want to capture that thief guy to get promoted? You want to abandon us too?” Mirjam doesn’t seem bothered by letting her lisp go wild as he teases the policeman on a bicycle.

“And leaving this town undefended? I’ll pass. Though, who keeps spreading that rumor? Not the first time I heard it today…” Mr. Kobashi acts like a good guy despite his weird appearance.

“If you can’t find out who did that, don’t you think Mr. Phantom Thief is out of your league?” Grace starts to chuckle.

“T-That’s… ngh…” Judging by Mr. Kobashi’s reaction, he must not be great at his job.

“Hey, Grace, be nicer to Mr. Kobashi…” Mirjam is way too nice.

“Don’t be so stiff, Mirjam.” Grace plays it down. “Or do you want Phil to think you’re boring?” Mirjam looks uneasy.

“So, you must be Phil...” Mr. Kobashi turns to you.

“Nice detective work.” You jest. “Hey there.”

“This is Phil Noon, he’s a new mysterious transfer student!” Unintentionally, Mirjam makes you look suspicious.

“He got here today and totally refuses to tell us anything about himself!” Grace adds.

“That’s why I didn’t recognize him…” Kobashi scans you from top to bottom.

“Nice to meet you.” You try to be nice to not appear suspicious, he might think you’re that phantom thief guy. You feel it’s too late for trying to pass as normal and he already made up his mind.

“Welcome to town! If you need some help, I’m always at your service!” Mr. Kobashi gives you a warm welcome. Maybe detective work is not his forte… “I know everyone in town, so don’t hesitate to ask me for anything.”

How do you respond?

>“I’ll keep that in mind.” Grace and Mirjam want to drag you somewhere, so you mustn’t waste time here.
>Ask Mr. Kobashi if he has seen Matilda and Oliver.
>“So tell me, is there a good treasure in this town for a phantom thief to steal?” Act suspicious for no good reason (that no good reason being fun).

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“Thanks. Then I’ll need your help. I’m looking for a couple of people.” You’re going to ask him about Matilda and Oliver.

“Oh right! Your friends!” Grace gets all excited, she thinks Mr. Kobashi might have a clue.

“W-We almost forgot about them again...” Mirjam is already looking at the people going inside the gate, trying to feel less guilty about their forgetfulness.

“Relax, Mr. Kobashi’s got this. He’s one of the most reliable men you can meet!” Grace loves to say nice things about people. “He always helps Mirjam when she loses something, like our apartment keys last time.”

“G-Grace, don’t tell him that!” Mirjam doesn’t want to look bad.

“C’mon, we have to big him up. ‘sides, it’s true, isn’t it?” Grace doesn’t care.

“Hmm? Describe them to me.” Mr. Kobashi is ready and willing to help! He doesn’t want to disappoint the people who believe in him.

You describe the odd pairing with the best of your abilities…

“…Any clues?” You put your hand on your chin.

“The girl with an intense glare must be one of the new students here. She’s inside the school. I believe I met her a couple of minutes ago.” Kobashi comes out clutch.

“Oh! She’s here, Phil!” Grace is happy for you.

“Maybe she’s waiting in line for breakfast.” Mirjam suggests. “There is no other reason to get this early to school…”

“Don’t worry, go to classes, I’ll find your other friend. Trust me.” Kobashi promises.

“That reminds me! Mr. Kobashi, did you bring some stuff to the cafeteria?” Grace is exhilarated again.

Ssshh. It’s supposed to be a secret…” The sketchy policeman acts like he committed a crime.

“Why?” You don’t get the secrecy.

“I-I’m an enforcer of the law, I can’t play favorites…” Kobashi wants all of you to lower your voices. You still don’t get why.

“Some early mornings, Mr. Kobashi comes over and donates desserts to the cafeteria for everyone.” Mirjam informs you with a smile on her face. “They are ultrrra delicious.”

“No, I don’t.” Kobashi plays dumb too late.

“You just admitted it a minute ago.” You scratch the back of your head. This guy is all over the place.

“That’s true! And we know they’re homemade too!” Grace nods. “By the way, what did you bring, Mr. Kobashi?”

“I haven’t brought anything, and I don’t know how to cook. But my sources tell me there will be ‘pudding’ this morning.” Kobashi plays dumb so badly that it reminds you of Amelia.

Pudding?” Grace smiles from ear to ear.

You can hear both girls’ stomachs grumble for food… Both get embarrassed. They start pulling you to the cafeteria, then they stop after they realize how awkward this is looking.

“I-It’s a shame Wilma overslept again. It’s her favorite.” Mirjam shakes her head and tries to play dumb. Did she just mention the ex-sandwich?!

“T-They really overwork her at the farm.” Grace doesn’t look happy as she joins her friend’s efforts to change the topic.

“I’ll pay her a visit so she can get here on time. She’s staying at the Orphanage of the Blue, right?” Kobashi is ready to roll.

“Yup!” Grace nods.

“Then I must hurry.” Kobashi is ready to pedal away.

“Wait, can I go with you?” You want to accompany him to find Wilma.

“Huh?” The hungry girls exclaim confused in unison.

“If you don’t mind riding the back of my bike. Sure.” Kobashi is up for it. “You know how not to fall, right?”

“Yeah, I do.” You adjust your glasses. You obviously know how to hold onto a bike, who does he think you are? Amelia?

“W-We wanna go too!” Grace wants to be part of this. But her stomach grumbles for sacrifices… “Aagh…” She turns red as a certain redhead you know.

“Let’s go eat…” Mirjam looks sad.

“I’ll meet up with you later. I have a weird hunch right now that I must go too.” You poorly explain yourself to be all mysterious.

“You promise?” Both girls want you to put your word on it.

“I do!” You smile at them both. They seem convinced now.

“W-We’ll save you some pudding just in case.” Grace promises a reward.

“Be careful.” Mirjam looks somewhat worried for some reason. You wonder if she knows something about the orphanage.

“It’s less than a 20-minute trip, the Orphanage is in the middle of the town. We’ll be back in an hour at most.” Kobashi is certain of it. You get a hold of the back of the bike, you’re back-to-back from each other. “Take care, girls.” Kobashi starts pedaling away. You wave them goodbye.

Kobashi starts following the road downhill, until he makes a turn as the street splits. You’ve seen nature at its finest, you have visited forests, mountains and such in family trips. But never this much in an urban area, despite the cold – the breeze hitting your face feels nice.

The town of Xumenlo is reminds you more of a busy village than an actual town, a lot of homes right next to each other in some streets, buildings not more than 3 stories big among them, then some have large yards between each home, then large spaces with nothing but green. There is a stark contrast between the newish concrete buildings with the old infrastructures made out of wood, but nothing looks recently made. All buildings have some kinds of pamphlets on them, most of them unreadable the same way your card is – the one you can read have strange optimistic catchphrases about the country and its people. The only constant in all of them is this logo, the CotF one. It’s all propaganda…

Enough about the scenery, Kobashi has been kind enough to talk to you during the trip, mainly pointing at landmarks that barely stand out. He’s acting like a cordial tourist guide, which you appreciate.

What do you do?

>Ask Kobashi about the Phantom Thief he’s pursuing.

“Can I ask you something?” You wait until there is no ‘Super pond’ for him to point out to ask a question.

“Yeah, what’s up?” Kobashi is still in a good mood.

“Why are you interested in looking out for Wilma?” You wonder if they have some kind of friendly relationship that can be useful in present time.

“You heard the girls; pudding is her favorite!” Kobashi tries to joke around.

“Is that really all?” You don’t buy it completely. He seems to be the kind of guy who would do something silly, but...

“You’re a man, right? Can you keep a secret?” The light-hearted Kobashi sounds a tiny bit serious.

“Anyone decent can.” And you’re decent! …You think.

“You’re right!” Kobashi has a laugh despite his initial shock. Did he just realize that…? “I made that pudding. Grace wasn’t lying, any time my salary allows me – I make you kids a bunch of sweets. I’m good at it. But this one is special, I made it for her, for Wilma.”

“Oh, why?” You casually ask.

“Because she has been working really hard. Ever since she moved to the Orphanage of the Blue, she hasn’t looked healthy. Best place in town, my superiors say – but I don’t know why the government keeps shuffling you kids around; your friends are basically your family. You need each other. Why would anyone tear that down? They moved her in all alone.” Slowly, Kobashi sounds more and more earnest. “Gradually, she started to become skittish and apprehensive. She became a lonely girl like I’ve never seen her be before. And I hated to see it.”

“You want to cheer her up then.” You put it simple.

“You got it.” Kobashi smirks. “I want to help everyone I can. Right now, I believe she needs it the most. Maybe it’s dumb of me, and too little… But…”

“No, I get it. I really do.” You nod.

“You’re a smart guy, Phil.” Kobashi smiles.

“Aren’t you going to ask me the same question? Aren’t you wondering why I’m coming along?”

“Why? You looked determined; I didn’t need to know more than that.” Kobashi is an odd fellow.

You arrive at the Orphanage of the Blue. You can tell because there is a sign on the wall that says so, and, the whole fucking building is blue.

“This place looks evil.” You cannot help but to comment.

“Agreed.” Kobashi doesn’t like this place either.

What do you do?

“You kinda get used to it.” Kobashi says after agreeing with you about this evil looking building.

“Do you?” You raise an eyebrow as you leave the comfy bicycle.

“I mean, schools look worse; you’re just used to them.” Kobashi shrugs. He has a point, but not always the case…

“That doesn’t make it better.” You shake your head.

“Yeah…” Kobashi is a goofy man. He grabs his bike’s handles and goes towards the door.

“Wait.” You stop him before he gets in too deep. “We should look around first before knocking.”

“Did something catch your eye?” Kobashi looks around, thinking something is off.

“Uhm… No.” You sound as convincing as ever.

“Then let’s do it quickly, pudding is waiting.” The officer is lenient, maybe too lenient. Works for you.

Officer Kobashi tries to peek through one of the windows where he’s standing; he’s not putting too much effort into this. You, in turn, decide to walk around and see what’s at the left side of the building, as soon as you do – you’re face to face with a man with glasses and a watering can.

“Hello there.” The man smiles. “Blue-lcome.” Okay, you don’t like this guy anymore.

“Hi…” Your courage is high enough to be not surprised. But you’re weirded out.

“Huh?!” Kobashi gets taken by surprise by the strange man. “W-Where did you come from?”

“I was watering the garden. How can I help you?” The eerily relaxed man wonders.

The mysterious man reminds you of someone…

What do you do?

“Is Wilma around?” You get to the point, no need to go around the issue! Pudding is waiting!

“She’s tenderly sleeping in her bed, and I don’t wish to wake up this early. School starts in a couple of hours, doesn’t it? Are you one of her classmates?” The eerie man doesn’t waste a second to change the topic back to you.

“We have something special on today’s breakfast menu, it’s her favorite.” You dodge the question.

“Her favorite? Do you mind telling me what that is? She’s having issues opening up to us, and we want to make this new stage in her life as comfortable as possible.” The man smiles. “My name is Sieb Bruun. I’m in charge here. It’s a pleasure!”

“I’ll be happy to tell you if you bring Wilma here.” You smile back. You hope it doesn’t look as phony as you feel.

“Like I said, she’s been struggling to adapt here. That has negatively affected her sleep schedule, so I don’t want to perturb her dreams.” Sieb continues smiling. “Moreover, this orphanage is different than the likes you know, we’re proud of the fact we feed our kids nutritious meals. Wilma doesn’t require government assistance, less so those less-than-optimal CotF ones.”

By the sound of it, those breakfasts are dog shit… Maybe you just dodged a bullet by coming here. Well, you’re supposed to be back to eat one of those anyway, so maybe you shouldn’t feel good just yet.

“That’s strange, more often than not, she has been eating at the cafeteria every morning.” Kobashi calls it bullshit.

“We know. We let her go so she can meet up with her friends, it’s important for her development that she still holds those bonds close to her.” The caretaker informs. “We told her it was her responsibility to get up early to go to meet, but as you can see, lately, she doesn’t seem to care as much as before. We’re worried, but there isn’t much we can do.”

“I doubt someone told her that today there was a donation of said favorite food by a mysterious benefactor.” Kobashi seems to share the same bad feeling that you have and pushes the issue.

“Well, if her friend here feels so strongly to come over to pick her up just to tell her. I’ll inform her, we’ll see if she cares enough to get ready.” Sieb puts the watering can away.

How do you respond?

“Can you let me do it?” You want a chance to get inside, but mostly you want to see this guy’s reaction.

Sieb gets a little startled by your proposition, he’s more shocked than alarmed though. He chuckles as he grabs the watering can again to pet it or something, then he puts it on the ground again for no reason. Maybe he’s giving himself some time to think.

“I don’t think I’ve heard your name, son.” Sieb finds the angle in which he can question you.

“Name’s Phil.” You give your answer all chill.

“Very well, follow me. I’ll show you the way.” Sieb tenderly smiles again.

“Huh?” Kobashi didn’t expect him to agree.

“What’s wrong? I assume I can trust Phil since he’s here with you, officer.” The caretaker doesn’t seem to have an issue, or if he does, he’s doing an excellent job hiding it.

“I’ve never seen you let anyone else in.” Kobashi points out. This confirms they’ve seen each other before.

“Is there a good reason for someone to barge in?” Sieb turns his head in phony bewilderment. “I know what the other orphanages are like. But this place is a safe sanctuary for the kids. It’s their homes and I refuse to put them in danger.”

“I suppose you’re right.” Kobashi doesn’t buy it though. He seems to be those “instincts” based detectives…

“Can we go?” You’re panicking inside since this Wilma hasn’t gone through her sandwich period yet, so you have no idea how she will react. But you need to move forward!

“Yes, sorry, you meal awaits, doesn’t it?” Sieb starts walking towards the building. “I only ask you not to do anything that could disturb the other kids. We’ll have to be quiet.”

“Sure.” You’ve lived with enough hobos to know how not to wake up people by mistake. You share a look with Kobashi before barging in…

The place is… well… blue. Different shades of blue, so many it goes to Cyan – which is not blue at all, but it works for the scheme they are going. Reminds you of the Dark Church in a weird way, just less drab and more colorful, you can tell they had kids in mind while decorating this place, they even drew stupid clouds on the wall, the likes Amelia loved when she was little. You’re at some type of reception, the whole place is dorm lobby-like, it’s very spacious and with some furniture around for people to sit – there is a long table at the back of the room at the right, where you assume they must eat all together. There are some toys around on the ground as well. It would be cozy, if it wasn’t as blue…

Sieb is walking towards the stairs at the end of the room, you’re going upwards, and he hasn’t said a word…

“Hey Sieb, can I ask you about Wilma?” You try to start a conversation.

Sieb puts his finger on his mouth and softly shushes you.

“We’ve to be quiet, the kids are sleeping.” Sieb whispers with a smile on his face. You cannot help but to frown.

“Can we whisper at least…?” You whisper back more or less at the same volume as his.

“Sorry, we can’t.” Sieb walks away without even turning to you to answer. “If you wanted to talk, we should’ve done it outside.” He whispers anyway.

You silently nod, it’s not like you want to be kicked out… Besides, it will give you some time to think about what your plan is to deal with Wilma. You’re a complete stranger to her in this timeline after all.

As you step up the stairs and see more and more of the decoration, you question yourself as to why the first thought that came to your mind after seeing these stupid clouds was recalling your sister. Obviously, what you should associate clouds first and foremost should be Giorsal and her cloudy hair. You wonder if you could sleep on it and how comfortable that would be. Though, being fair to yourself, Amelia’s bear has a flying cloud, and seeing them may trigger you back to those moments where she chased you to put a stop to your shenanigans like the mad bear that she is. That special moment you learnt how to turn invisible…! You still try to take positives out of that day, but man… that day sucked.

Before you realize, you’re already outside a room, and judging by Sieb’s mannerisms, this must be Wilma’s room, or, at the least, the room she sleeps in. He has the intentions of going inside first, but he can’t because you clumsily haven’t paid much attention to what he’s doing, and he’s expecting some kind of answer before going forward from you. Doesn’t seem like he has any intention of letting you go inside with him.

What do you do?

With that in mind, you want to go in without him around – so it’s time to improvise with the great amount of wit level 4 Knowledge provides you!

“Hey look, behind you.” You whisper as you point behind Sieb.

Hmm?” Confused by what you just said, Seib turns around and falls for the oldest trick in the book.

You don’t know how to feel about the fact that this is consistently working more often than not. People just don’t expect to be tricked or just don’t have enough time to process the information to realize something’s off, that’s a lot of words for just saying someone is naïve or naturally careless. You can’t just be on guard 24/7. That’s what you assume from doing this to Amelia for years and her always falling for it. Maybe a distrustful dick like Richard wouldn’t fall for it, he seems like the type who would refuse to even look just because someone told him to do something. But that would mean Seib is not a dick, and you already know enough about this place to be certain that he is.

Going back to reality (?), as soon as the caretaker turns around, you use Philonune’s powers to turn invisible! Then you put your back to the wall, in case he decides to move in your direction. Seib turns his head around, he gets startled for a second, then he takes a napkin from his shirt’s pocket, takes his glasses off, cleans them, and puts them back on. He madly blinks for a couple of seconds as he returns the napkin to his pocket.

“That’s unsettling.” Seib doesn’t know how to process this still. “I should look around for him…”

And just like you thought, he starts walking away through the direction you were standing in. He isn’t in a hurry, which just adds to the uneasiness you've been feeling this whole way through.

Coast is clear though…

What do you do?

You wait for the strange caretaker to be a solid distance away from you before moving on. You’re going to go inside Wilma’s room. Now, a part of you wonders if it was a good idea to let Seib go without stealing his keys or something; the room might be locked. Time to press your luck and find out if it is or not!

It is unlocked! You suppose that leaving these rooms locked would bring more problems than not; just imagining one of the kids here wanting to go to the bathroom, and every single time, you’ll need to unlock their doors for them. Just the thought annoys you.

Regardless, you gingerly open the door, slide inside the room, and close it back without making much noise. You’ve done too many stealth missions at this point to fuck this up, but it feels good to do this correctly in one go.

You’re inside a room you could only describe as a sky-blue cube. There are two beds inside, a wardrobe, and a window. You can see only one person sleeping on one of them, the person you assume is Wilma – and she looks so much younger, like your age, maybe younger. She’s all curled up in the corner of the bed to the wall, mere inches from it. She doesn’t seem to be having a pleasant rest. Oh, and this place has a carpet, that’s a plus too.

What do you do?

>Tenderly wake her up while still invisible and act like you’re the voice of an unnatural being.

You cautiously approach her and sit on the overwhelmingly open space on the bed. Then you gently start caressing Wilma’s face with the back of your hand to wake her up; the opposite approach Yu Yan uses to wake Nariko up. The girl’s eyes slowly open a little, then like a frightened animal, her skin tenses – her eyes open wide after a profound blink, then she turns around to see you, and doesn’t hesitate to crawl away to the corner, all scared. She starts loudly gasping…

“Calm down, I’m friends with Kobashi. I’m taking you out of here. But we have to be quiet” You try to explain and reassure in the least number of words you can think of to get all your message across, without raising your voice.

“…” The scared Wilma stops breathing erratically now that she takes a good look at you, almost like she was scared you were someone else. This is a huge red flag, maybe as huge as Nina’s hair! Or other assets... You would be lying to yourself if you thought Wilma is relaxed though. Despite never seeing a scared person looking so red.

“Do you wanna know what’s going on?” You whisper.

Wilma silently nods.

“I came to pick you up with Kobashi, your friends were worried you didn’t come to school.” You explain.

Wilma is trying to process what’s going on, but looks confused still.

“Did… you sneak inside…?” Wilma wonders as she doesn’t look like she trusts you yet.

How do you respond?

“Yes. That’s why we need to go quick.” You need to be honest so Wilma can trust you. “I promise everything is going to be fine, I have an escape plan.” You adjust your glasses with confidence.

“Y-You promise…?” Wilma seems confused by your wording.

“I do.” You nod.

“…No.” Wilma rejects the idea. “Le-Leave on your own. This is too dangerous.” Naturally, you expected a response like this.

“Please, lower your voice.” You have to ask because she responded too casually for the situation.

“Fo-Forgive me…” The skittish girl raises her hands to defend herself.

“It’s fine. Just come with me. Everyone is waiting.” You extend your hand to her.

“Y-You don’t know me…” Wilma is too apprehensive to take the chance.

“But the others do.” You need to be pushy. “And we’re pals.” Besides, you already got here and it would be weird if you came out empty-handed.

“B-But…”

“They want you there, Wilma. Let’s go.” You keep the same stance.

“…I can’t.” Wilma covers herself completely with her sheets.

“Give me a good reason why.” You will deter from pursuing her only if she gives you a good reason.

“…They’ll make fun of me if I go like this.” Wilma has a point, she’s in her sleepwear and her hair is like yours: a mess!

“D-Do you really need to change that badly…?” You told her you’re in a hurry.

The blob sheet nods.

“How much time do you need?” You need to know.

The blob raises three fingers through the sheet.

“Minutes?”

The blob sheet nods once again.

Do you have time for something like this…?

What do you do?

>“Fine, but do it quickly.” Accept her terms.

“You’re beautiful as you are. You don’t need it.” You try to convince her that she looks fine as she is right now!

……………!” Wilma is just dazed by your words, as the firm grasp on her sheets loosens inch by inch, they drop down to reveal her expression. Her red face rivals the very best ones you’ve seen from the girls you know. It’s adorable.

“So, you’re coming, right?” You didn’t get a response. She’s acting like a frozen chameleon, color change and all.

“…” Wilma nods, still looking embarrassed.

“Hand me the sheets. I’ll make a rope.” You’ve never done this before, but you’ve seen movies where they do, and tying knots is not difficult.

“…” Little Wilma takes off the sheets and hands them to you, while her body is shaking. Must be the cold, that long pajama dress isn’t going to help her much.

“Here…” You take your jacket off and give it to her. Now she looks like she has broad shoulders. “For the cold.” You smile.

“…” The future Sandwich just looks away with the same panicky expression she’s been having since she agreed. She’s avoiding eye contact with you. Maybe you said something wrong…

You make an impromptu rope with the sheets from both beds! It wasn’t as difficult as you thought, but it isn’t as big as you hoped, the thicker blankets make it harder for this to be as effective as you wanted. You tie one end of it onto the wardrobe for security measures, and double check the pressure to make sure that it’s sturdy enough for your plans.

“We’re ready.” You exclaim in triumphant whispering.

“…” Wilma has her uniform in her arms. Guess your confidence booster didn’t give her much confidence. She’s wearing her shoes too.

“I guess if you’re going to school, you’ll need those.” You didn’t even realize when she grabbed the uniform, but you’re curious as to how you’re going to go down the rope with them. “Give them to me. I’ll carry them.” You put them inside your shirt, your belt won’t allow them to fall down! Now you have a little tummy like a couple of soft ladies you know. “Do you know how to go down a rope?”

“…” Wilma shakes her head; she has no clue. Figures.

“Can you hold onto me real tight? I’ll carry you on my back.” You don’t know if the sheets are going to withstand the weight, but Wilma looks lighter than in current times. “C’mon.” You get on your knees so she can hop on.

“…” Wilma puts her arms around your neck, and holds tight. You feel her breathing on the back of your neck, it tickles…

“That’s it, you’re doing really well.” You feel like you sound sleazy while whispering stuff like that, but you need to reassure her that she isn’t strangling you. “Now don’t let go…”

Your Athletics level is high enough that this shouldn’t be a problem. Now you have to hope your little trick doesn’t pull out earlier than anticipated. You make sure you’re in the clear before descending. You’ll land on the same spot you saw Sieb the first time; by the side of the building.

You feel like some kind of super spy going down the building like this! It’s surprisingly effective!

You reached the ground without major issues, the only problem you had was that the sheets couldn’t handle the weight much longer and the tie on the wardrobe snapped. You were close to the ground and you stuck the landing, now you have most of the ‘rope’ with you. Aside from the window being open and the odd position the wardrobe ended in, it doesn’t look like you did anything. It was perfect! Almost too perfect…

Wilma leaves your back after the stunt is done!

“Are you okay? I hope that didn’t scare you at the end there.” You don’t want to scare the skittish girl more.

“……” Wilma nods! She’s fine!

You peek at the front, and only see Kobashi’s bicycle there, with no signs of either men here. Seib probably dragged Kobashi along to your pursuit or something, the lack of any commotion tells you that nothing important has happened…

You have practice using a bike to escape a giant skeleton monster before…

What do you do?

>Hide with Wilma until Kobashi comes back.

You think Kobashi is inside, going for him would be more trouble than it’s worth after this heist. Since you’re here to bring this girl some pudding, you must make all sacrifices necessary – you will steal his bike and take Wilma to school! It’s not like this is the first time you’ll steal someone’s bike anyway, so no guilty feelings for you! Okay, maybe you feel some guilt, you apologize mentally to the nice policeman.

“Let’s take Kobashi’s bike to school.” You grab Wilma’s hand and drag her with you.

“Huh…?!” Wilma looks dumbfounded by the fact that you’re stealing the bike… probably.

“Don’t worry, I’ll report it missing later. He’ll get the hint.” You think so. Kobashi isn’t the sharpest detective by the looks of it.

“….” But Wilma’s fidgeting doesn’t stop, she really doesn’t like the idea of stealing the poor guy’s bike it seems. On another note, her hand feels a little rough…

You grab the bike and jump on the seat for no good reason, you tap the back for Wilma to come closer.

“Now, you’ll have to hold tight from the waist, okay?” You instruct her not to kill you by accident.

“……” Wilma follows your orders to a tee. You feel her head resting on your back, and with that, you start pedaling away!

You suddenly stop midway, on a random street…

“C-Can you tell me where the school is…?” You forgot! Tour and everything and you still forgot! Still, nobody can blame you, it’s your first day here.

…Pfft… Hahahahaha!” Wilma starts laughing to her heart’s content for some reason. She hides her mouth with her hand. You scratch the back of your head, a little embarrassed by her reaction. It takes a minute before it dies down.

With her composure back, Wilma tells you to go straight until she tells you to turn to the left. Now you should get there no problem.

You have a couple of minutes to get there, she’s happy resting on your back without saying a word though.

What do you do?

>Tell Wilma why you ended up ‘kidnapping’ her. She needs to know what’s going on.
>Ask Wilma if she’s okay. Like, in general, not in this situation.
>Explain to Wilma who you are! The new friendly transfer student who’s too mysterious!

Before you start talking to Wilma, you mentally tell Philonune to interact with the floating thing that you think is San Wich, since it would look weird to Wilma if you talked to an invisible flame. Philonune informs you that they have been exchanging a few words about nothing important ever since you two met at the orphanage – and yes, that’s San Wich and he doesn’t look like food in the slightest, extremely disappointing, almost like seeing Twist again earlier today.

You ask Philonune to start getting some answers from San…

“Hello friend, apologies for not being much help! But I’m glad to see you’re safe and sound.” San Wich gets in your view to give his message.

“My partner says that you shouldn’t cover his view unless you want them both to have an accident and die.” Philonune has no time to embellish your message. “Also, he wants to understand what’s going on.” You also said ‘S’up’ back, but Philonune is too lazy to give the full message…

“I don’t understand it myself. The body in this world is in much better shape, but I cannot make contact with it or have any control over it, though I still have access to her and the Body’s thoughts and feelings. The only certainty is that our souls are still connected.” San has no answers for you and he’s trapped! He’s useless!

“Sounds like business as usual to me.” This is what being a flame is like for Philonune. “Except I’m still able to talk to my partner.” So not that similar then… “He’s wondering if everything that is happening is the work of your special ability.”

“Perhaps it is, but my own abilities are a mystery to me. The key to all this might be sealed in my memories, but I’m not certain, I believe I’ve experienced something similar, but not to this extent.” San has no clue about anything. Great. “I didn’t know you were dragged here, friends. I’ll work hard to figure out a way to escape.”

“It’s rather strange that we can communicate this way between us, this is not possible in the other realm.” Philonune points out. He’s right, flames can’t talk to each other in the real world, they are a pseudo-physical manifestation for the hosts to see, right? “My partner is requesting for every single bit of information you can provide about the events that have transpired since you got in this realm and a full status report on the body.” Wait, you asked for ‘relevant information’!

“Very well.” San is ready to talk. Oh god…

“J-Just tell me how she feels for now, you can tell everything else to Philonune later…” You wanna know if you’re causing her any distress. You’ll trust Philonune to concisely inform you later.

“Understood, friend. Wilma and the Body are one and the same right now. Her Body status is far from optimal: She feels a great amount of tiredness due to poor sleep, sore limbs and hunger. These negatives are being overwritten by your soothing presence, due to your perceived reliableness and the great amount of attraction she feels for you. Meaning her trust in you is high. Still, she has pressing concerns about your identity and the reasoning of your actions, the consequences of said actions she has partaken in for the long term, and if you’ll notice her underwear is in the change of clothes you took from her. She also has lingering concerns about not wanting you to realize she’s missing a tooth and the way you perceive her character. She also finds your back comfortable, and desires for this moment to never end. Now, I’ll recall the events since we got here…”

You’ll ignore that bit for now. With that information in mind, you know how to start a conversation…

“Aren’t you curious as to who I am?” You ask Wilma as the trip continues.

“…” Wilma doesn’t give you a hint as to if she’s interested in knowing or not. You’ll continue monologuing since San said she’s curious, no matter how awkward it is.

“I’m Phil Noon, I’m the new friendly transfer student. Nice to meet you.”

“Ni-Nice to meet you, I’m Wilma…” Wilma politely whispers.

“Like I said before, I came here to pick you up with Mr. Kobashi, your friends Mirjam and Grace were worried you overslept again – and were going to miss breakfast. And with that, something important…” You don’t know if you should spoil the surprise. “Mr. Kobashi brought some special dessert today for breakfast, and he really wanted you to give it a taste. So, we had to come for you.”

“Dessert…?” Wilma is probably surprised by the fact that you went through all this trouble just for that.

“Kobashi’s sources say it’s a pretty good one.” You try to make it sound interesting. “And if you’re wondering why he didn’t just bring you some, I think he already delivered them. Now, if you wonder why he didn’t just keep a portion just for you in case this happened, I have no clue.”

“Uhm…” Judging by Wilma’s reaction, she never questioned Kobashi’s methods.

“He also told me a bit about you while we were on our way here.” You continue chatting. “He said you’ve been acting off for a while, and—”

“Wa-Wait.” Wilma wants you to stop. “T-There is a public bathhouse here. I’m gonna go change… I don’t w-want to go to school in my pajamas…”

“That’s understandable. Though, we can’t miss the food, so you’ll have to hurry.” You park the bike in front of the wooden building she’s pointing at.

Wilma dismounts the bike, and you hand her the uniform – goodbye little tummy. She grabs the bed sheets you were carrying too and puts the clothes inside, like a little bag. Then she hurries inside the building.

During this little recess, you request Philonune to inform you about what San told him in a brief manner. For some reason, brevity to Philonune means he’ll tell you everything really fucking fast. And since you’re mentally talking, it’s surprisingly effective…

San was transported here close to midnight, he found himself next to an unconscious Wilma near a farm field and a warehouse. He tried to communicate with Wilma, at least to wake her up, but to no avail. San was unable to control the Body either. She did wake up a minute later and looked distressed, she fell unconscious and it was too late to take the bus back, making her walk for hours to return to the orphanage. Once back, she was harshly scolded by a cold woman, making her cry, until a man with glasses intervened and helped Wilma to her room, she trusts this man. Wilma fell asleep despite the pain she felt through her body. Once awake, she made contact with you.

After a couple of minutes, Wilma is back and properly clothed, carrying the sheet bag on her neck – she couldn’t do much about the hair though. She’s still trying to comb it with her fingers to no avail.

“Looking cute.” You smile. Wilma shouldn’t worry about her appearance so much.

“….” Wilma gets all red and stops messing with her hair.

“Hop on. We don’t wanna be late.” You need to go or else there won’t be pudding!

“Your jacket…” Wilma gives it back and you put it on. Then she sits behind and puts her arms around you.

“Thanks. Let’s go.” You start going… “By the way, you can ask me anything if you like.”

“…” Wilma doesn’t say anything immediately. “Can you take me far away?”

Well, that’s not the type of question you were expecting!

How do you respond?

>“No matter how desperate you are, you shouldn’t ask that from a stranger.” It could be dangerous.

Man, I really couldn't disagree more with
>“No matter how desperate you are, you shouldn’t ask that from a stranger.” It could be dangerous.
She's not asking to be left alone to die (like she was/is in the real wold), she's just asking to go away from what's surely a deeply shitty situation.

It's not that she doesn't know it's dangerous to ask a stranger, it's just that her situation is so bad that rolling the dice on asking a stranger to take her somewhere else is preferable to staying where she's at.
