The Lonely Light. A remote and desolate Island chain on the fringes of the know world,8 days sail from the Iron Islands, to its west only the ocean remains. It is The seat of House Farwynd, your Lieges House. Settled and colonized hundreds of years before Aegons conquest, this remote archipelago is technically part of the Iron islands but due to isolation its inhabitants have developed a different culture, more akin to the first man of the north.
The story of you House is Linked and chained to these forgotten rocks. 50 Years before Aegons conquest, the founder of Your dynasty Jakor Physeter was hired and brought to the Lonely Light from the citadel to work as an architect in building up structures for House Farwynd. The Farwynd Lord was so impressed and satisfied with his work he granted him the privilege of marrying one of his daughter and settling on a nearby minor island. There Jakor founded House Physeter and named his tiny Island The Boulder. But lands and nobility were not the only gift your family received from House Farwynd. In marrying into their family Jakor obtained a blood inheritance much more valuable than worldly possessions: The ability to skinchange. Ever since, your family has prospered. Their far-flung rocky home serving well as they made use of their wits and warg abilities to improve The Boulder and built upon the inheritance of Lord Jakor Physeter.
It is now year 294 AC ,5 years after the failed Greyjoy rebellion. The Farwynd didn’t take part in it and neither did your House, regardless the Lonelly Light felt the effect of the Ironborn defeat with increased trade restrictions and reduction of economic activities now plaguing the Archipelago.
You are Jarson Physeter,15 years old, second born son of Your Father Lord Hectar Physeter. You Older Brother may be the one to inherit the titles but you got something just as precious. You were born as skinchanger, just like your father.
Ever since you were a child you practiced transferring your mind into animals and you discovered the closer the bond you have with that animal the easier it was. Skinchanging into wild animals is possible but the control is fickle and exhausting but doing so with tamed ones is much more rewarding. Aware of this fact you managed to tame and bond with:

The Killer Whale. A formidable and massive predator. The smartest animal you have ever encountered. Ever since you saw a Pod of them swimming near The Boulder Coast when you were 8 you were fascinated by them. At first you were wary of getting near them, but as time went by you started feeding nearby pods and even swimming in the ocean with the massive cetacean. When you were 11, to your delight you noticed a young male Orca kept returning to play with you every single morning and soon you befriended the animal. Skinchanging into him was exhausting and tiresome at first but as years went by and your relation grew stronger You could finally merge with him without trouble.

Depending on what OP meant by -Strength, our Athletics might be low, and thus axes would deal less damage. If we want to be a competent fighter, we'd want to sink a die into Fighting(Fencing) and work towards water dancing. That's a lot of investment though, I'd think it's better to have a champion and leave fighting up to him. We can do more with diplomacy as a sailor than we can with an axe

Being raised in a tiny island, you made most of your surroundings and developed a passion for swimming and diving. While cumbersome and slow at first ,by now you are a skilled swimmer capable of swimming between the archipelago islands if the current is slow and you are well rested. Not only that but you are also able to hold your breath for up to 5 minutes while under water.

As soon as you were old enough to walk ,you also started partaking in your uncle and father ship travels, learning how to captain a boat and sail it to the Continent.

Last but not Least, you took an active interest in diplomacy studies learning how to best make trade deals and how to flatter the nobles and rich individual of Westeros into seeing your way.

During all this time, you developed a growing friendship with your elder brother Jafir. Being close in age and interests, the two of you had no trouble in building a solid fraternal relation.

The Year is 294 Ac,and today is your Father,Lord Hectar Physete,r 48th name day. There will be a feast for him later tonight but in this morning he has summoned you to the ceremony hall for an important meeting.

As you enter the large empty room you spot all the living males of your House sitting around a large wooden table.Your father has a map of Westeros opened in front of him and seems focused on drawing on it.Jafir, your brother,is simillary entertained writing on a piece of parchment.Only Your cousin,Rodwin Pyke, appears totally careless as he drink from a heavy mug of ale.
The three men promptly acknowledge your presence and you proceed to take a seat next to Jafir.
Hectar raises his gaze from the map and wastes no time in addressing the room:

“As you are well aware today is my 48 nameday.I am growing old and will soon join our ancestors in the ocean”- he speaks solemnly-“But as Head of House Physeter it is my duty to leave you three decent Holdings and domains before my eternal rest.As you are all aware it has been close to 5 years since the fool Balon Greyjoy thought he could revolt against the Iron Throne. Neither we or House Farwynd took part in the hostilities but we still suffered from the conflict.Verily, that war shattered the little credibility The Iron islands had earned in the last centuries as part of the realm. We are now once again seen as disloyal traitors and backward raiders”

Jafir interrupts your Father and raises his pen:

“We are barely related to those savages of pyke and wyk, both in blood and in customs. Why does it matter to us how Westeros treats them?”

Hectar bashes his hand down, causing the whole table to shake

“Do you honestly think the fancy Lords of the Westerlands and the Reach make a distinction between them or us? For Most of the Kingdom The Lonely Light is just a remote obscure part of The Iron Islands. Ever since that idiotic revolt our economy has deteriorated and I am now forced to take drastic measures.”

The room is silent.Hectar produces a map of the Lonely Light archipelago and displays it over the table.

“The Boulder, our home, is barren. The only resources we have are the fish from the sea and the Iron from the mines. Fish and Iron, that’s all we ever had and until recently,it was enough. We would trade those on The Mainland for other materials we needed or for products we could sell elsewhere. Thanks to the Greyjoy rebellion, the trade relations our ancestor spent decades buildings were shattered.”- He pauses taking a sip from his wine chalice – “Now it fall on us to rebuild those relations”

Hectar stares at you as he finishes this sentence.

“You have been quiet son,any remarks you wish to make?”

Even though my first instinct was to revisit our old contacts, heading west brings with it the possibility of new trade routes. Iron and fish is well and good, but common enough in Westeros, maybe we can find a greater need for it to the west?

As much as I hate "acktually" posting, in canon the Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon saw what /could/ have been Lady Elissa Farman's Sun Chaser in Asshai. If it was, then that means that a westerly route to Essos exists, and it is navigable with canon extant technology.

(fucking confusing votes, but I think sailing west option won)

You stare at the middle aged man with quizzical look

“What about sailing west? We could find some unclaimed land that way”

Rodwin bites his tongue trying not to laugh as you utter these words.Jafir glances at you as if you are half mad.Your fathers expression is unreadable. He strokes his beard and addresses the room:

“Many Men tried their Fortune sailing the Sunset Sea.Few returned. Those who did claimed all they saw was water and tiny islands not even worth naming.Brandon the Shipwright disappeared with his mighty fleet in such journey. My brother himself vanished in similar endeavor seven years ago"– He stares at the celling areminding of simpler days – " But our ancestor, Jakor, did indeed believe Planetos was round, a view supported by many master at the citadel, I heard. If we were in a sphere then sailing west should take us to Essos eventually…."

Jafir shakes his head:

“Jarson is too young to realize the folly of his words father. We shouldn’t encourage such an expedition. It can bring only misery" - He pulls the parchment he was writing,a map of westerons painted on it – "Reading the reports of our house in the Last century I managed to narrow down three trade routes we could follow and reestablish. The North Route would take us to Seagard and above.Trade with the northerners is straightforward, they are a practical folk. Those waters offer few dangers and they are well mapped but the profits opportunities might be scant.”

Jarson now points to green line on the map.

“The Most traditional route is the Westerland one.Trade with the Lanisters and the Farman is profitable but challenging. The Lanisters despise us ,and a commitment for future negotiations will be difficult".-He moves his hand down trailing the corner of the map- "Last but not least,we have the South route stopping at crakehall and then proceeding to the Arbor. The Redwynes are an Hospitable people and trade with them hold opportunities. There are inherent dangers on this voyage though. Pirates are known to harass ships close south of the three towers not to mention the voyage is long and demanding.”

He finishes his exposition with a triumphant smile.Hecta looks impressed at your brother analysis

“Well done Jafir,I see the master I hired to educate you and your brother didn’t go to waste.Three worthy routes available but we only have the resources to send two expeditions currently"- He smirks, looking at Jafir before slowly moving his sight to you – "Before we proceed want to know if you are ready Jarson. Your Brother will captain one of the ships as he has proved himself before.Rodwin could captain the other. But its your choice. do you think you can captain you own ship through these routes? Or would you rather wait a few more years."

All eyes are on you now.

This is your chance.Time to prove yourself and show you are worthy of the Physeter name. You Lock eyes with your father and loudly proclaim:

“I am ready Father. Give me a ship and I will sail for the glory of our House”

Hectar looks surprised but satisfied by your enthusiasm.

“So be it. Jafir will captain one of the ships and you will take the other. Rodwin will go with you as your first mate, but don’t forget you are the one in charge. All decisions and its consequences lie with you, son" – "He points to Jafir’s map on the table – Now to the matter of which Route to take… Jafir, you were the one to propose them so why don’t you pick yours first?”

Your Brother crosses his arm and leans back on the chair:

“Since this will be Jarson first time commanding a ship to the Mainland I think he should choose the route first… What do you say brother? where do you want to go?”

Staring at the map on the table you picture the possibilities. No matter what you choose the trip should take close to a month. You father and your ancestors are counting on you. This Is not a light decision.

Rodwin has let go of his ale mug and is attentively paying attention to your words. No doubt he has his own opinion on which route you two should take but he knows his place. You will be the captain, You alone must decide.

“I shall sail The Westerlands Route”- you proclaim

Rodwin picks his mug and raises it high, unable to keep his excitement contained any longer:

“Fuck Yes! Good choice Cuz! Westerland women are high quality ,the weather is nice, and they have amazing taverns. We will have fun on this trip” – he finishes by taking the mug to his mouth and gulping it down In a single breath.

Jafir nods at your choice and smiles approvingly:

“Westerlands Route should be nice and easy.Just stay away from trouble and don’t get involved in Politics. The Lanisters are a poisonous lot and we don’t need any of their venom on The Boulder”- He points The Pen at the map – “I suppose I will take the South Route to the Arbor then. A Long trip but hopefully a rewarding one.”

Seeing as you and Jafir had both decided on your routes, your father produces a small book from under his pocket.

“Its settled.Westerlands Route for Jarson and South Route for Jafir. Each one of you will captain one of our two Cog ships, seeing as our three galleys make for poor trading vessels. You will each have a crew of twelve good sailors under your command .Keep them safe, boys. As For what your cargo will be I will let you decide. Mind you, these ship can only carry around 20 tons of cargo.”

“Well thought Jarson.Iron should be easy enough to sell but finding a buyer for whale bone might take some work. Its mostly used for jewelry ,decoration and craftsmanship so it’s sort of a niche commodity.”-He points his fingerr at you and Rodwin – “You two are free to go now, Just remember about the feast later tonight. You two will be gone for a long time so it’s better to wrap up any unfinished business by tomorrow morning. As for you Jafir we need to speak in private a while longer. Its high time we think of a worthy match for you.”

Rodwin stands up as soon as Hectar finishes his speech, no doubt glad to be finally done with this meeting. You follow him through the door before he shuts it close.
The two of you part ways outside the Tower-Castle.
Its noon already but you still have quite some time before the feast tonight.Your father will probably administer the ship loading and the crew assembling so you are free for now.
What do you want to do until the Feast?

Walkingthrough the path leading to the beach you decide to look for your younger sister. It takes you more time than you expected. None of the people at the castle village or her friends know where she is. Just when you were about to give up you spot her on the distance in a secluded area of the island. You through the sand towards her direction. As you approach you notice Leah is close to a large grayish animal lying on the sand. It has its belly up while the young girl scratches it tenderly. As you get next to her you notice it’s chubby a gray seal.Hearing your footsteps closing in,Leah jumps up in apprehension but quickly relaxes once she notices its you. She hugs you tightly for a few seconds before letting go:

“Hey Bro! What brings you here? want to meet my new friend? I named him wolfie because he is gray like a wolf”- The girl exclaims excitedly.

You stare down at the pinniped and pokes him with you foot but the fat creature doesn’t seem to acknowledge you at all.Your sister, like you, inherited the family skinchanger abilities, yet she seems far more skilled at it than both your father and yourself. She is able to skinchange into wild animals with little effort and from great distances so it’s no wonder she has a strong connection to the natural fauna of the island. You lean down to scratch the animals belly while addressing your sister:

“I am going on a merchant trip tomorrow. Both me and Jafir…We will be gone for a month or more.He will be sailing to the Arbor and I will go to the Westerlands.I wished to spend a little time with you before that”

You barely have time to finish the sentence before Leah is raging at you:

“WHAT? Both of you gone ? I will die of boredom on this rock! Please take me with you! Jafir never takes me with him! I am sure if you ask Dad he will let me go with you! please, please, please I have never been on the Westerlands!”

You are taken by surprise by the girl’s pleading. She stares at you with hopeful eyes waiting for your answer.

“I will ask father tonight”- You concede

Leah’s eyes flash with joy and she jump-hugs at you ,causing you to lose balance and nearly collapsing over the Gray seal.

“Thank you, thank you thank you! This will be so much fun!”- she expresses giggling

She recomposes herself and looks to the Ocean horizon with a serious expression

“I have been felling a bit weird lately. Like a feeling of anxiety I can quite grasp – Leah Looks at her hands as if checking she is awake – “Last night I had such a weird dream…But when I told Jafir this morning he thought it silly. But for me it felt almost real. I don’t think he believes in the power of dreams or visions, He is too focused on the present…” – She trails off

You raise up from you position next to the seal and stand next to your sister staring at the ocean together.

“Jafir was born without the gift you, me and father share. That makes him more skeptic and grounded than us. He hasn’t experienced what we both have. The freedoms to dive hundred of meters under the water. To fly through the skies and see the Islands from above….To get a new perspective.” – You stroke her hair, sliding your fingers down the strands – “I for one would be delighted to hear about your dream”

A small smile returns to her face

“It’s a bit strange. It started with me in the body of a dolphin swimming through a clear blue ocean. I was happily swimming around until I poked my head above the water line.In front of me stood an Island with small squirrels and cute rabbits running around. But in the middle of all of them there was an enormous fat deer with silver horns. The little animals all paid deference to it, but suddenly the fat deer lost balance and collapsed under its weight dead. The squirrels and rabbits run around it in despair” - She closes her eyes to turn the memories more livid – “From the right, a group of Large golden cats approached the deer fallen body and began to feast on it. They didn’t eat for long though, a pack of similar sized wolves arrived from the north and soon both groups were fighting each other. In the end a Gigantic Kraken, as Large as the island itself, smashed over it with its tentacles sending wolves, cats, squirrels and rabbits flying through the air.I woke up as he set his dark piercing gaze at me”

Leah gazes at you waiting for your imput…

>Jafir is right it’s just a weird silly dream

>Grandfather had similar dreams…

You think about what Leah just said. Those seem like the dreams Grandfather used to have and Hectar warned you about. The dreams that eventually drove him mad and led to his suicide by jumping from the top of The Bouder tower.Of course you don’t tell any of that to your younger sister

“Grandfather had similar dreams. He believed they were shadows of what is to come. You should keep telling me if you have other dreams like that in the future”- You pat her head, earning a pout from her – "But for now let’s talk of more joyous matters…”

You proceed to spend a nice relaxing afternoon with your sister playing by the beach and talking about animals and nature.

By the time you two part ways its dark already. The cold breeze of the sea blows through the barren island sending shivers through your lightly clothed body.
You make your way to the Castle and from there to the feast hall where hopefully it will be cozy and warm.

When you arrive the ceremony has already began. You can see all of your family inside as well as numerous retainers and friends of your father.Even Lord Farwynd came from his seat at the Lonely Light to attend the celebration.
Your father sits next to him in a table with your brother and other man you don’t recognize, one of them with a large Golden Kraken on his chest.
Your cousin is drinking with two sellswords in a dark corner of the room. You also spot your sister and you Mother partaking on the festivities.

The night is young and you think on who you should talk before the great trip tomorrow (pick two options)

You approach your mother, Lexia Physeter, by the roast fire. Despite being nearly 40, she remains a beautiful woman with large green eyes and long pale hair. She does not hail from the Iron islands, and neither from Westeros. Where your father met her is a close kept secret of the couple. All you know is she is from Essos and has no name or house but the one adopted by marrying your father. Her past is as mysterious to you as the vast Sunset Sea.

Your mother smiles at your approach, proceeding to plant a kiss on your forehead. She holds a thoughtful expression as she speaks.

“I heard you are leaving for the Westerlands tomorrow. Like your father, I do believe you are ready. Just heed your mother warning. The world is a cruel dangerous place. Don’t risk your life for gold or wealth. The most important thing is that you return safe to us”
You are taken back by her melancholic words

“Is not like I am sailing to Valyria mother. I will only go as far as Lanisport and will be back in less than a month. The most danger I will be facing are shrewd merchants trying to rip me off” – you laugh in an attempt to cheer her up.

Seeing you Laughing and carefree cause Lexia to relax a little.

“I know, I know. Just an old woman worrying about her children…”- She justifies – “But did you come here just to hear my ramblings?”

What do you want to talk with your mother?

>Ask her if you should take Leah with you

“I was wondering if you knew who that man with the kraken sigil is. The one sitting at father’s table.”- You discreetly point in his direction.

Your mother follows the direction of your finger and immediately knows who you are talking about.

“That is Victarion Greyjoy, younger brother of Lord Balon. It seems he had business in the Lonely Light and, before returning to Pyke, has decided to attend your fathers festivities. Hectar is no friend of the Greyjoys, but he had no choice but to offer hospitality when Victarion showed up at our doorsteps.”- Lexia looks back at you averting her gaze from the table – “At least, he is the most palatable of the Greyjoys siblings and has behaved so far so I don’t think he will cause us any troubles tonight”

You spend a few more hours talking with your mother about miscellaneous topics before excusing yourself and heading towards you father’s table. Hectar notices you approaching and motions for you to take a seat beside him. You waste no time in pressing your sister’s request to him.

“Leah has asked me to take her with me on the trip. Do I have your permission, father?”

Hectar sighs and places his glass on the table

“I do not approve of this, but it is time for you to make your own decisions, I grow tired of repeatedly denying the girl these requests. Ask yourself: Do you think it’s wise to take a 14 years old girl on this trip? Will you be able to keep her safe? The choice and its consequences are yours, son.” – Your father speaks with a tired and slightly inebriated voice. He awaits your answer with patience, but doesn’t move his gaze from you.

You decide to:

>I will take her with me
>you are right, she should remain at The Boulder.

You also talk with him about:

>Do you think the Orca should accompany my boat on the trip?
>Why is Victarion Greyjoy here?
>Have you decided on a match for Jafir?
>Any last hour advices for your son?

“I will take her with me”- You confidently proclaim.

Your father nods but doesn’t say a word in response. You continue to another topic:

“I noticed Victarion Greyjoy is here. What is the reason for his presence?” – You ask your father.

Hectar’s face contorts into a bitter expression:

“Ever since the rebellion and the failure of the Lonely Light Houses to answer our “call of duty” the Greyjoys have taken a more active management strategy regarding us. They now show up here every three months or so to access the situation, and hear about new developments. Honestly is just a way for them to show us that they are watching and have not forgotten our “betrayal”. We are technically still part of the Iron Islands so we need to comply” – He finishes with a sarcastic laugh

“I guess that’s harmless enough” – you offer your insight- “Regardless, do you any Last advice for the trip tomorrow?”

Hectar scratches his beard and shrugs

“Nothing particular. Just remember to keep the crew happy, don’t take unnecessary dangers and you will do fine. As Jafir said before ,it is a pretty safe route so you should have no troubles at all. Just keep an eye on your sister when the ship is docked.” – He takes a sip from his wine glass before continuing – “And if you intend to bring your Orca along be extra careful. Skinchangers are not well seen south of the neck. If they find out about you or your sister’s gift you will at best be shunned by the local population and at worst end up in some dungeon at the Citadel. Not to mention the animal itself might be hurt or harassed near those crowded ports.”- He finishes

The rest of the Night passes through uneventfully between feasting, drinking and playing games with the assembled guest. It is late evening when you retreat to your chambers, tired but excited for the Journey tomorrow.

This is it guys. Next thread we shall start the Journey to the Westerlands. I will hang by the thread for a while if you have any suggestions or questions about the plot/characters. I also wonder if you are ok with cannon characters that died a few years before the events of the book but have no specific date of death showing up.

I hope you guys enjoyed the quest so far!
