/qst/ - Quests

The time has come for the 312th annual MEGA BUG WARS. Every year, aspiring Battlemologists head out into the woods to hunt for unique creatures, or breed their own stock for the tournament.

This year, three promising specimens are all the rage. Never before seen, the trio of bugs are widely available for one to choose from and purchase, in preparation for the tournament.

> Rudeling

A powerful red beetle with a horn that looks vaguely like an extended middle finger. They tend to flash it at each other. Uses their strength to crush other bugs.

> Big Piin

A rather peaceful specimen. They tend to fight among themselves nonlethally, culminating in the losers being thrown off whatever log they’re trying to court females on.

> Stingky

A flying bug, lithe and speedy. They use the stinger to jab at foes. Their bodies are covered in a foul oil that serves to dissuade predators. Humans either universally love or hate the smell.

> Write-In

A custom bug for each anon.

Hey, anons. Just running a little system that I worked on a while ago. The point of the game is to advance in a tournament circuit against each other, and NPC bugs. You’re free to create your own submissions as long as they look like a bug, and seem simple enough to be the first of potential multiple stages.

Advised to use a tripcode if you’re claiming one of the starters.

Rules pending in second post. If you’re interested in joining later on, feel free to until the first round of the tournament has ended.
>>
I’ve tested this system with a bunch of friends and it’s relatively balanced for all the builds. Subject to change, though, as publicly setting it up means that things will start to fall apart.

Still working out bug evolutions.

When we get signups, we can do some practice battles before everyone starts duking it out for real.
>>
>Custom bug

>Rollabola
A bug that can roll up in a ball. Pretty hard shell, almost invulnerable when rolled. Susceptible to getting motion sickness and being forced to become unrolled and vulnerable to attacks
>>
>>4772752

Could you attach a picture, and allocate stats to Rollabola?
>>
>>4772755

To clarify: I'm using Serf. Was really thinking about Stingky, but I'm a sucker for write-ins

Rollabola is for Axsisel if he's still around and wants to play within the next few updates, or up for grabs by anyone if he disappears

Boa worms are soft bodied predators who favor ambush tactics to catch their prey, by quickly lunging towards it and then grab it with it's tentacle mouth parts to finish the job by strangling it within their coils, hence it's name.

Caterdrillers are slothful, tough-skinned bugs. While mostly slow and pacifistic, preferring to inch along the ground in search of food, they are capable of latching onto attackers and defending themselves using a powerful drill-tipped nose capable of cutting through even the sturdiest metals.
>>
>>4772746
Watch out for the Scaracut!
This critter is a tree-climbing bug that makes its nests by cutting into the hard bark of the red forests it lives in. It has a hard time keeping a target still but has a knack for chopping em up at pretty good speeds

Alrighty. I’ll leave some of the slots open for later entries. But for now, we have enough to begin.

Twentipede and Serf, are you guys ready to start your respective battles?
>>
Rolled 1 (1d2)

>>4774152

When ready, declare your move and roll a d6+ the associated mod.

Since Serf and Piin have the same speed, I’ll flip a coin. 1 is Serf, 2 is Piin.

>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4774624

Winning the tie, Rudeling manages to shrug off the attack, gaining 2 points in the process. It charges at Twentipede to attack.

Pick a reaction and roll.
>>
>>4774654

Oh, it was Rudeling’s turn. I got sidetracked by something and didn’t manage to post his attack in succession, my bad. But you can use this roll for your reaction (defense/dodge) if you’d like.
>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4774660
No no it was my bad I thought defending ended your turn because I believed that with the point system based on dodging and defending you had to choose wether to go for damage or points. I roll to actually dodge if that is okay if not just use my previous post.

>>
Rolled 2 (1d6)

>>4774670

Sure thing. Rolling for Rudeling’s own speed, to see if the dodge works.
>>
>>4774676

Uh, I got the posts mixed up. Please ignore this one. Mobile posting is hard.
>>
>>4774724

Sorry about the mixup. Here. Serf is the one grappled instead. I’ll roll the Rudeling dodge in a moment.

Serf’s turn!
>>
>>4774730

And Twentipede’s reaction proper. Rudeling is physically unable to beat that roll, so the dodge is successful and he gets a point.

Now Pede’s turn again.

Also, just as a general clarification, doing nothing/skipping an action is a valid option, in case it ever turns out beneficial.
>>
Rolled 3 + 1 (1d6 + 1)

>>4774771

Grappled! Rudeling is wrapped up in Twentipede’s coils, and is unable to try dodging. He’s at the longer bug’s mercy, save for his hard shell.

Neither of them are able to dodge now. Rudeling tries an attack.
>>
Rolled 6 (1d6)

Rolling to defend
>>
>>4774775
Even with the minus 1 I forgot that is pretty good
>>
>>4774775

You don’t have a -1. That applies to defending against a grapple, not defending while being grappled. So it’s a nice, perfect 6!

Twentipede is at 4 points. Neck in neck. It’s your turn now.
>>
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4774782
Back to attacking so I get the ability to dodge back
>>
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4774789

Grappled is a status effect. It persists after a successful Grapple action. On the opponent’s turn, they can initiate a grapple check. If the grappled party wins, they can choose to break free. If they lose, they get one step closer to being ring-outed. You’ll have to break the grapple status to be able to dodge again.

Defending with Rudeling!
>>
>>4774799

A hit! Rudeling is now at 2/3 HP.

Before his turn begins, would you like to release him from the grapple status, and open up dodging for the both of you again?

Yes, you’re allowed to skip a defensive action and let yourself be grappled if you think it’s advantageous.

I have to sleep after this. But it’ll be your turn to attack/grapple after this roll determines if your dodge is successful.
>>
>>4775163
Gnight man! And I probably should have let myself get grappled. No use in giving the enemy a free point for their win
>>
>>4775176

You get points for successful defensive actions. As it’s your dodge, you just don’t get your point. The enemy also gets nothing.

You’re grappled now, though, so feel free to take your turn and roll an action while I’m asleep.

>>
>>4775228

If you grapple something, it also means that you’re negating their dodge. So having decent strength against a foe with no shell means that you can keep hitting them in a grapple, if your purpose is to immobilize them instead of going for a grapple victory. For example, against a foe with high dodge but the same grapple as you. Grapple also protects you against other grapples, so it’s partially defensive.

Some of the better combinations are Shell/Grapple, Speed/Shell, and Attack/Speed.

Tl;dr it gives you more options and can even the score in cases.

>>4775233

When you dodge, however, both parties have to roll speed. It’s why dodge needs so many more points to win, and why it loses ties. It gives the advantage of turning the roll into a speed contest.
>>
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4776627

This time, the snail attempts to dodge instead.

Roll speed.
>>
Rolled 1 (1d6)

>>4776630
WE CAN DO IT, CATERDRILLER!
>>
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4776629
Thanks for clarifying, Boa would keep playing safe and go for the grapple
>>
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)

>>4776632

Ruh roh.

The snail dodged and gains a point. It proceeds to attack with its spinning shell again, trying to tackle Caterdriller into submission. This could be it. If the grub defends or dodges successfully, it’ll be a decisive victory.
>>

DECISIVE VICTORY
> Non-Lethal
> Finishing Move (describe)

Caterdriller is the victor!
>>
Rolled 1 (1d6)

>>4776633

Greedy for points, and cocky over its rolls, Stingky attempts to defend instead of dodge.
>>
>>4776646
>Drill its shell off its body, make it a bit smaller, and wear it like a hat for the remainder of the tournament.
>>
>>4776650

The execution is brutal. Smacksnail is furiously ripped from its shell, and the tattered remains are scattered from the spinning force of the drill. Caterdriller earns their trophy.

Feel free to add the shell in a new image. I’m working on evolution mechanics at the moment, so a chance to update the drawings of your bugs will be coming too.
>>
Rolled 4 (1d6)

>>4776649

The bug is ensnared in the coils of its foe. Stingky panics, using its action to attempt a grapple check and break free. The advantage goes to Boa Worm.

Roll a grapple check. Afterwards, on your turn, you may either initiate a grapple check of your own to start flinging it out, or attack.
>>
>>4772839
>>4773012
>>4773997
>>4773962

I’ve got something planned for the victors who’ve made it to round two so far, so stay tuned while I finalize the evolution mechanics.
>>
>>4776665

As the victors rest between rounds, you find that your bugs have entered strange, cocoon-like shapes all of a sudden. They seem inert for now, and asking around reveals that it’s a transformation prompted by winning a battle.

Evolve your bugs for round 2!

Obtained:

> 1x Stat point
> 1x Lifeline

> Lifelines

A lifeline is a trait that makes it slightly harder for your bug to be defeated in a certain way. You may only pick one, and all three are effectively survival upgrades.

> Increase HP to 4

> Increase Grapple Tolerance to 3 (requires 3 failed saves instead of 2 to be defeated)

> Increase points needed to 7 (Defenders need 7 to KO you through Decisive victory.)
>>
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4776660
Finally having the foe within it's coils, boa will proceed with the constriction instead of attacking
>>
>>4776685

It’s one roll to contest his escape, and another to do the check on your own turn. Kinda like dodge. Roll me another grapple check please!
>>
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4776694
Here we go!
>>
Rolled 4 (1d6)

>>4776696

The Stingky’s contest:
>>
Rolled 1 (1d6)

>>4776701

A tie! That means that it neither fails the save, nor breaks free. On its turn, it tries to break free again, still attempting to get its dodge back.

Same thing as last turn.
>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4776706

>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4776709

>>
>>4776709

Indeed he is not. Back to your turn.
>>
Rolled 4 (1d6)

>>4776713

Yup!
>>
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4776716
Boa is not taking risks with this one, it's going to crush him for good before it slips away!
>>
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4776716

A failure to break free leaves Stingky helpless in the grip. One more grapple check and it’ll get crushed/tossed out.

They’re both on the ropes. Boa is tired out from all the stinging, Stingky is helpless. The fly attempts one attack! If the worm can deflect this and then win a grapple, it clinched the victory.

>>4776726

Your turn was this one, right? >>4776713

Which makes it Stingky now.
>>
>>4776727

>>
>>4776727
I have to roll for shell now isn't it... (im dead as can be if so lol)
>>
>>4776734

All good.

>>4776743

And... Ah shit. Boa has no statistic way to avoid this max damage attack. I’m sorry.

Within his grip, Stingky lashes out with a flurry of stabs, breaking free from the coil. Boa Worm is left paralyzed from the toxin. Normally, a wild Stingky would plant its eggs within. But the owner pulls it away before it can do that.
>>
>>4775083

Heya Saturnite. Check in if you’re present, and I’ll make your opponent.

>>4776614
>>4776734

Also, we have plenty more empty tournament slots, and it’s a pity if you get eliminated before getting to fight other players. Would you like to re-enter Boa Worm in one of the other brackets? Or sign up a new bug.

Boaworm returns with a vengeance! His new opponent is Killbug, an insect with the ability to tuck itself into a tight, heavily armored shape. When powdered, its shell possesses medicinal properties, which make them popular companions for Bug Healers. They’re essentially the Chanseys of the MEGA BUG WARS world.

Rollin to see who goes first as they’re tied. 1 for Boa, 2 for Killbug.
>>
>>4776839

Your go first!
>>
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>

Defending against a grapple is a bad idea. But when you have 3 shell, it’s slightly less of a bad idea. Block attempt!
>>

>>
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4776870
Seeing that direct hits won't do much, Boa would keep trying to grapple it's foe.
>>

The bug attempts a dodge instead, still using its rolling momentum.
>>
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

And i have to roll for the grapple again now right?
>>
Rolled 5 (1d6)

>>4776882

Nope. You made a grapple roll, which was this. >>4776875. Killbug dodged, and you rolled to see if it could do that successfully.

It failed, and is now grappled by you. But now it’s its turn. You get to do your own grapple checks next turn.

And speaking of grapple checks, Killbug attempts to escape!

Roll to contest it, and roll for your own action the turn after.

And with that, everybody has moved on to round 2! You’ll be battling each other now, instead of NPC bugs, with the exception of Boa Work and Stingky, for whom it’s personal.

If you haven’t already, please evolve your bugs and increase one stat point and lifeline.

Also, I’m going to sleep. Battling pairs may just start fighting straight away when they’re both online, just put together some MSpaint visual to represent it, like I’ve done. And feel free to pause those fights to ask questions and clarify, if I’m not around to referee.

And do feel free to do practice battles and for-fun ones that don’t count towards the tournament.
>>
>>4777040
not gonna make much of a fuss about it
it was a battle of attrition grappled up like that, so if he's down he's down
no point in hurting him anymore afterwards
you know, he might be an irredeemable bastard from outer space, but he was a worthy opponent, gotta respect that
>>
>>4777057

In that case, the battered, defeated foe flies off to fight another day. It sags as it makes its way through the aid. The beast will definitely not be bothering anyone for a while.
>>
>>4777053

Ah, right. I forgot I was gonna do this. Bracket updated with the fatalities, and the audience opinion of our various wrestlers.

> Twentipede

A good opening match. It beat a flashy contender, and showed mercy. The audience perceives the bug as an up-and-coming star.

> Scaracut

Scaracut had plenty of fans due to its cool appearance and the way it busted down a heavily armored foe like that. Generally favorable reviews, and fans are excited to watch it face Twentipede.

> Serf

The first bug to execute its foe. This gives it a sort of Heel role in the current bracket. It has its share of fans, and they’re the sort who appreciate a good wrestling narrative.

> Saturnite

Immediately an iconic Face, due to the way it fought an enemy and let it escape despite their clashing natures. Seen as honorable, and many are rooting for it in the coming battle against Serf.

> Stingky

As a common bug this season, many Battlemologists know of Stingky. Perhaps it winning will elevate its status and reflect well on its breeders. Most people are very excited for the Boa Worm fight due to the narrative.

> Boa Worm

The underdog that rose from the ashes and went straight back into the ring. Definitely among the most anticipated matches, and fans are split pretty evenly on which of the two they support. The match will be watched closely by the audience.

> Caterdriller

Another Heel due to its gory execution and subsequent trophy wearing. Whether Stingky or Boa face it in the third round, it’ll be seen as a somewhat villainous Heel, with the potential to gravely injure or kill one of the two rivals.

The first hit! A failed dodge! Scaracut takes a blow, cutting its HP by a quarter. The crowd cheers. Looks like this fight is off to a nail-biting start! The bigger beetle has lost its one-hp lead, but it has a chance to tip things back in its favour if it can land a hit this turn! With its high strength, there's no chance to flop to the point that a defence is guaranteed. And its speed is almost equal! Who will come out on top? It all comes down to the dice!

There’s no beating that. Stingky is 1/3 of the way to being ring-outed or crushed. It does its own grapple check, its tiny body hoping to surmount the odds and somehow leverage the bigger, heavier worm.
>>
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4781235
Boa will defend by shifting the coils around Stingky to prevent him to get a hold on it's body.
>>
>>4781240

When under the Grappled status, instead of rolling defense, a grapple check is initiated. Both parties roll their grapple to see if the grappler can toss the other. Defense is only to stop one from being grappled in the first place.

So you’d be rolling your grapple against mine, which is an instant success, and would allow you to break free from Stingky if you wish.

It’s your turn after that, to either attack or initiate the grapple check.

The victors, once again, witness their bugs go through a transformation. They return to whatever strange cocoon forms they had, molting and shifting within as they evolve to their final stages as Tier 3 bugs.

PICK ONE

> 1 Stat point
> 1 Skill

Skills can be minor upgrades. They cannot be too powerful, and some skill examples are below. Post a proposed skill and I'll vet if it's balanced. Or you may pick these.

> Skill: Dodges win ties
> Skill: Rolling a 6 on attacks results in a CRIT, which does 2 damage if it connects
> Skill: Defense has no penalty against Grapple
> Skill: Grapple check ties result in a victory for this bug

There's no way to get a stat to 5 without picking the first upgrade. But by combining your stats and skills, you can make certain attacks and abilities extremely powerful. It's acceptable to evolve and adapt based on the opponent you'll be fighting.

Assuming I win would either of these skills be acceptable or do I need counter to Hunter?

After two successful dodges paralyse you have the option to paralyze for one turn instead of attacking or grappling. While paralyzed they can't attack or grapple while paralyzed.

For every successful dodge gain a temporary "shell point" they wear off after defending whether you were successful in avoiding damage or not
>>
>>4781619

Considering the small-scale of this system, and how all the win mechanics are 3-4 successful rolls for a victory, skills that increase stat points are definitely a no-go, as they skew things too much. So the 2nd, nope.

The paralyse one seems fine to me. After two successful dodges, you essentially get an extra turn by making the enemy skip theirs, yeah?
>>
>>4781631
Yeah that was the idea behind paralyze, they can still try to dodge or defend my attack though
>>
>>4781632

Yep. So to clarify, it would be:

Enemy: Attack
Pede: Dodge, attack/grapple
Enemy: Attack
Pede: Dodge, attack/grapple, attack,grapple

?
>>

Behold the Stingipede, with a skill I hope at least partially counters Hunter
>>
>>4783801

I think I’d rule that the ‘two dodges in a row’ from Hunter would mean that you can use it twice consecutively in response to attacks. And if the opponent skips a turn, it doesn’t reset the dodge counter.

Otherwise, the alternate interpretation would mean that Serf has no skill at all while Stingipede can attack twice.

So it means that Pede can’t dodge on the turn after the foe comes out from paralysis.

Size comparison and hopefully insurance that I don't forget my trip again
>>
>>4783802
Pity but fair enough
>>
>>4781501
So a skill I was thinking of would be:
>Observant: On your turn, you may use the "Observe" action
>Observe: Check for weaknesses in an enemy's grappling or attack strength, while using your shell to buy time. Roll 1d6+shell vs 1d6+grapple or strength. The user of this ability decides whether grapple or strength is checked. If successful, gain 2 points towards a Decisive Victory.
>>
>>4783823

I think this might be too major too. It would mean that you can gain points during both your turn, and the enemy’s turn. It would be akin to them taking damage on their own turn, or failing a grapple check on their turn.
>>
>>4783832
Okay, I'll try to balance it. What if Caterdriller also risks taking damage with this action? Revised form below:
>Observant: On your turn, you may use the "Observe" action
>Observe: Check for weaknesses in an enemy's grappling or attack strength, while using your shell to buy time. Roll 1d6+shell vs 1d6+grapple or strength. The user of this ability decides whether grapple or strength is checked. If successful, gain 2 points towards a Decisive Victory. If unsuccessful, take 1 damage if strength was checked, or if grapple was checked, become grappled if you are not already grappled. If you are already grappled, failing this action while checking grapple counts as failing a grapple save.
>>
>>4783843

Yeah, seems more balanced now that it has a cost. It's essentially making an opponent initiate an attack on your turn. Though, I think the last tweak necessary would be having the opponent choose which stat they use when this happens.
>>
>>4783809
Quick question Bug Master, do the successful dodges have to be consecutive to trigger paralysis?
>>
>>4783860

I'd say nope, procs on two dodges. Like a special meter.
>>
>>4783848
The ability to choose a stat felt like an important part of this skill. How about this?
>Spiky Shell: Your shell is now spiky! On your turn, you may use the "Graze" action.
>Graze: Roll 1d6+shell vs 1d6+opponent's shell. If successful, you graze them in key vital points, tiring them out and granting you 2 points towards a decisive victory. If unsuccessful, you're caught out of position! Your opponent may take a second action on their next turn.
>>
>>4783864

As with before, I think it'd be important to have more than one option available to defend.

I'd say add in the ability for opponents to dodge Graze. Otherwise it'd essentially be initiating an auto-hit Shell contest.

>>
Rolled 5 + 4 (1d6 + 4)

>Attack!!!!!!!!
>>
Speed and attack versus grapple and shell, the ultimate showdown
>>
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)

>>4791792
>>4791871
As usual, Boa would go for a tail swipe to keep it's foe at bay
>>
>>4791931
That was a defend roll, right? If so, -1HP, and it's your turn
>>
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

Argh, I'm grappled! This won't stop Serfbob from ripping you to shreds though! Attack!
>>
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)

>>4792058
Using it's tentacled head as a "hand" Boa would
defend by slapping the attack down/away
>>
>>4792063
Serfbob merely punches Boa's face instead!
>>
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4792066
Ouch, Boa would give the little one a mighty squeeze! (grapple)

Unbeatable on your part, Scaracut takes the 1 hp loss! Your turn.
>>
Rolled 3 (1d6)

>>4792068
Can't dodge or grapple back because I'm outgrappled, can I roll shell to defend? Or is that futile as well? If not disregard this roll
>>
>>4792102
Yes you can defend when grappled otherwise grappling would be OP as hell lol
>>
>>4792104
I can defend, just not with my stats vs your roll this time, right?

>>4792099
Anyways guys i'm sorry to be the pebble on everyone's shoe, but it's 04:00 am here and i have to be at work by 10:00 am, so i'll go and try to get some sleep, so good night and i'll see you tomorrow so we can destroy each other.
>>
>>4792118

You can defend against attacks when grappled. But when you're grappled, and the grappler initiates a grapple check, you can only contest it with your own grapple.

The two uses of grapple are to go for a grap victory, or to stop your opponent from dodging and kill them with HP.

(If i messed up again and isn't my turn yet ignore this roll)
After slapping away Serfbob's crushing blow, Boaworm would envelop it's foe with his whole body to give him a goodnight's hug!(grapple check)
>>
>>4793554

Yep, that’s it. Boa might win here and now if it can pass this grapple...
>>
Can I even beat or contest that roll? Is it over already?
>>
>>4793758
If you can't get the same roll or higher i suppose yes, it is over...
>>
>>4793777
Not enough shell or grapple, and can't attempt speed. Looks like we've found our 312th Champion Battlemologist!
>>
>>4793811

AND HE’S DONE IT! BOA WORM IS ABLE TO ELIMINATE SERFBOB VIA RING-OUT!

Will the azure wyrm finish his foe with a fatality? Or nobly allow him to live.
>>
The fanfare from the crowd is great. Many were rooting for the returning contender, for everybody loves a comeback story. Serfbob remains a cult classic favorite, and is steadfastly in second place!

As the battle ends, Boa Worm and his trainer are awarded with the crown. The golden crown, however, seems to hum with a strange power. Some force emanates from it, and the red jewels shine with intelligence.

What will our champion do?

> Accept the inert crown and become the 312th Champion then and there.

> Unleash the inert power within it and face one final opponent, for a reward.
>>
>>4793836
After knocking out Serfbob, Boaworm would pick it up with it's tentacles and carry him to the arena's border, then gently put him down out of the ring, since it's owner feed him well before all battles to avoid unnecessary deaths and damage to other participants little companions.

We aren't chickens, UNLEASH THE POWER!

As Boa Worm faces down the Crown, it seems to glow with a regal light. It begins to unfold. Those red gems transform into blazing eyes, and the three spires of the crown transform into Majestic horns. The behemoth rises from the golden circlet and stomps into the arena, shaking the earth as it does so. It dwarfs even the massive Boaworm, so grand in its majesty.

THE MUSHI KING HAS AWAKENED!
>>
>>4793849
Boa would do a slight reverence to the imposing Mushi King before the fight starts, and then for the first time, it would use it's superior speed to do the first move and go for a grapple towards the neck!
>>
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793857
And i forgot to roll yay!
>>
Rolled 5 (1d6)

>>4793861

The King is experienced enough to know how to respond. Those red compound eyes observe for a moment. It recognizes the possibility of outspeeding its opponent, and aims to sidestep the lunge.
>>
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)

>>4793865
Boa uses it's considerable length to his favor by trying to connect the hit with doing a whole body swipe!
>>
>>4793871
that "doing" sneaked into that sentence lol
>>
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793871

It connects! The King spends its turn initiating its own grapple Contest, aiming to use its turn and break free.

A 6 will result in an instant success, as per ROYAL GUARD.
>>
>>4793878
A question about royal guard, it must be a nat 6 on the dice or stats count too?
>>
>>4793882

Only a nat 6.
>>
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793883
Good that scared me for a second lol, Boa would tighten it's coils to prevent the King from escaping.
>>
>>4793883
On a tie we stay grappled but nothing else right?
>>
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793888
Now that his foe is unable to leave, Boa would increase the pressure of it's embrace!
>>
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793891

Yup!

>>4793905

Grapple resist. If this fails, the King will be halfway to being thrown out.
>>
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793908

And it is! The huge bug is shaken about, his feet destabilized by the worm. He spends his turn attempting to break out as well, aiming to regain the offensive.
>>
>>4793911

ROYAL GUARD activates, allowing the king to break free. It folds its wings, before abruptly blasting them outwards like twin shields. The motion breaks the grapple, leaving it free to loom over Boa again.

Your turn.
>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793912
Refusing to let the King get away so easily, Boa would anchor it's mouth to the ground, like he did against killbug and then use his body to grab Mushi King by the neck and horn!
>>
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793375
Not today! Contest
>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793925

The Green fly is struck! It tries to sting between two of Scaracut’s armour plates.
>>
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793918

The Mushi King attempts a defense! It knows perfectly well that doing so is at a disadvantage, but it gambles on the 50/50 chance to completely repel Boa, as well as gain some points with a defend.
>>
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793936

And it’s another proc of ROYAL GUARD! The beetle deflects the blow. Boa’s tendril-like body gets swatted away by the neck. Mushi King attempts a grapple of its own, aiming to STOMP right down and pin the worm firmly.
>>
>>4793943

Contesting refers to putting up a defense, dodging or being dodged, resisting being grapple-checked and trying to break from the grappled status on your turn. This is the roll to Grapple you. So it doesn’t activate Royal Guard.
>>
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)

>>4793943
Boa would attempt to defend by doing a full body uppercut wile still anchored to the floor to knock down King when he lift's his torso!
>>
>>4793955
it was a +3 no +4 sorry, anyway that hurt
>>
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793955

Remember that Defense gets a -1 when used against Grapple!

The motion fails, and Boa Worm is restrained between the mighty foot of the monarch. The Mushi King slides the foot forward, aiming to drag the worm towards the edge of the arena.

Grapple check against you. Royal Guard doesn’t proc on this either, as it’s the offensive sort of Grapple Check imitated by me. Not a defense.
>>
>>4793966

Fuck! Please ignore this last post, sorry. I lost track and thought it was my turn. It’s your turn to act instead, as you’re freshly grappled.
>>
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793968
Boa uses its soft body to try to slip free from the Kings grip!
>>
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793978

The King presses down, hoping to make Boa expend his turn on a failed escape attempt alone...
>>
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)

>>4793986

And the worm is kept still!

NOW King will initiate that Grapple check that I rolled falsely earlier, to reduce Boa’s grapple resist.
>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793990
Boa wraps it's tail around Musi's leg and anchors it's mouth to the ground once more, trying to lift his body along the leg to free himself.
>>
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)

>>4793992
Now returning the favor and using he and his foe current positions, Boa attempts to flip Mushi like a tortoise!
>>
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)
