The time has come for the 312th annual MEGA BUG WARS. Every year, aspiring Battlemologists head out into the woods to hunt for unique creatures, or breed their own stock for the tournament. This year, three promising specimens are all the rage. Never before seen, the trio of bugs are widely available for one to choose from and purchase, in preparation for the tournament. > Rudeling A powerful red beetle with a horn that looks vaguely like an extended middle finger. They tend to flash it at each other. Uses their strength to crush other bugs.> Big PiinA rather peaceful specimen. They tend to fight among themselves nonlethally, culminating in the losers being thrown off whatever log they’re trying to court females on.> StingkyA flying bug, lithe and speedy. They use the stinger to jab at foes. Their bodies are covered in a foul oil that serves to dissuade predators. Humans either universally love or hate the smell. > Write-InA custom bug for each anon. Hey, anons. Just running a little system that I worked on a while ago. The point of the game is to advance in a tournament circuit against each other, and NPC bugs. You’re free to create your own submissions as long as they look like a bug, and seem simple enough to be the first of potential multiple stages.Advised to use a tripcode if you’re claiming one of the starters. Rules pending in second post. If you’re interested in joining later on, feel free to until the first round of the tournament has ended.
I’ve tested this system with a bunch of friends and it’s relatively balanced for all the builds. Subject to change, though, as publicly setting it up means that things will start to fall apart.Still working out bug evolutions. When we get signups, we can do some practice battles before everyone starts duking it out for real.
>Custom bug>RollabolaA bug that can roll up in a ball. Pretty hard shell, almost invulnerable when rolled. Susceptible to getting motion sickness and being forced to become unrolled and vulnerable to attacks
>>4772752Could you attach a picture, and allocate stats to Rollabola?
>>4772755Sadly no. Im at work. Forget about it
>>4772746Presenting the Twentipede: An aggressive and speedy bug that suffers from a soft shell.
>>4772758>>4772755>>4772752I gotchu, senpai
The Serf is a thin-skinned giant spider mite with massive fangs, yet a cheery and lovable disposition.
>>4772995To clarify: I'm using Serf. Was really thinking about Stingky, but I'm a sucker for write-insRollabola is for Axsisel if he's still around and wants to play within the next few updates, or up for grabs by anyone if he disappears
>>4772839>>4772995>>4773012Here's the bracket for now. I'll add Rollabolla if we get confirmation that Axsisel is joining. I'm definitely not actually expecting 16 players, so many of the slots will be taken up by NPC bugs.
>>4773082cool
>>4773082>Whoo I'm in the first match, lets just hope it won't be my last match
Boa worms are soft bodied predators who favor ambush tactics to catch their prey, by quickly lunging towards it and then grab it with it's tentacle mouth parts to finish the job by strangling it within their coils, hence it's name.
>>4772746Caterdrillers are slothful, tough-skinned bugs. While mostly slow and pacifistic, preferring to inch along the ground in search of food, they are capable of latching onto attackers and defending themselves using a powerful drill-tipped nose capable of cutting through even the sturdiest metals.
>>4772746Watch out for the Scaracut! This critter is a tree-climbing bug that makes its nests by cutting into the hard bark of the red forests it lives in. It has a hard time keeping a target still but has a knack for chopping em up at pretty good speeds
>>4773791>>4773962>>4773997Alrighty. I’ll leave some of the slots open for later entries. But for now, we have enough to begin.Twentipede and Serf, are you guys ready to start your respective battles?
Rolled 1 (1d2)>>4774152When ready, declare your move and roll a d6+ the associated mod.Since Serf and Piin have the same speed, I’ll flip a coin. 1 is Serf, 2 is Piin.
>>4774172Sorry about the wrong trip, didn’t capitalise.
>>4772839>>4773012Ehh guys? are you alive?
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)Serf attacks!
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774461Big Piin attempts to dodge! Roll speed, against its speed roll.
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774195Sorry, this started while I was asleep. Timezones and all that>>4774172Twentipede attacks
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774580Rudeling Defends, trying to deflect the blow with a flick of its horn.
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774624And attack again
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774624Winning the tie, Rudeling manages to shrug off the attack, gaining 2 points in the process. It charges at Twentipede to attack. Pick a reaction and roll.
>>4774654Oh, it was Rudeling’s turn. I got sidetracked by something and didn’t manage to post his attack in succession, my bad. But you can use this roll for your reaction (defense/dodge) if you’d like.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774660No no it was my bad I thought defending ended your turn because I believed that with the point system based on dodging and defending you had to choose wether to go for damage or points. I roll to actually dodge if that is okay if not just use my previous post.>>4774656
Rolled 2 (1d6)>>4774670Sure thing. Rolling for Rudeling’s own speed, to see if the dodge works.
>>4774676And it does! Rudeling is unable to outspeed the other bug, and its attack misses. Now it’s Twentipede’s turn to attack again.
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774683
>>4774701Not doing too hot on the attacks to be honest. Guess twentipedes aren't as aggressive as I thought
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774555Speed roll! I'm gonna munch on you, big piin!
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774703Uh oh. Rudeling will attempt a defend, and a grapple after.
Rolled 2 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4774718Grapple roll>>4774717That’s a hit! I’m gonna test if the dice rolls can process two separate ones. Big Piin is at 2/3 HP, and will attempt to Grapple the big fella
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774721Damn, guess it can’t take multiple variables. This is Big Piin’s one then.
Rolled 1 - 1 (1d6 - 1)>>4774721Defend!!!
Just realized that i put two points on strength instead of speed... my stupidity has reached olympic levels
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774721Well only thing to do,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvS6zMThiZU
Hey guys I’m not gonna be available for the next eight hours because Y’know, school. So please don’t bot me while I’m away, alright?
>>4774731Sure thing.>>4774724Oof, the defense fails and you’ve been grappled. Your turn, though!
>>4774750Uh, I got the posts mixed up. Please ignore this one. Mobile posting is hard.
>>4774724Sorry about the mixup. Here. Serf is the one grappled instead. I’ll roll the Rudeling dodge in a moment. Serf’s turn!
>>4774730And Twentipede’s reaction proper. Rudeling is physically unable to beat that roll, so the dodge is successful and he gets a point. Now Pede’s turn again. Also, just as a general clarification, doing nothing/skipping an action is a valid option, in case it ever turns out beneficial.
Rolled 3 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4774757Well attacking never worked out so I'm gonna try and grapple as well
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>4774763Rudeling tries to dodge! Roll your speed roll.
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774767
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774771Grappled! Rudeling is wrapped up in Twentipede’s coils, and is unable to try dodging. He’s at the longer bug’s mercy, save for his hard shell. Neither of them are able to dodge now. Rudeling tries an attack.
Rolled 6 (1d6)Rolling to defend
>>4774775Even with the minus 1 I forgot that is pretty good
>>4774775You don’t have a -1. That applies to defending against a grapple, not defending while being grappled. So it’s a nice, perfect 6! Twentipede is at 4 points. Neck in neck. It’s your turn now.
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774782Back to attacking so I get the ability to dodge back
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774789Grappled is a status effect. It persists after a successful Grapple action. On the opponent’s turn, they can initiate a grapple check. If the grappled party wins, they can choose to break free. If they lose, they get one step closer to being ring-outed. You’ll have to break the grapple status to be able to dodge again. Defending with Rudeling!
>>4774799A hit! Rudeling is now at 2/3 HP. Before his turn begins, would you like to release him from the grapple status, and open up dodging for the both of you again?
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774726>ID is blwupTRUThere's a joke in there somewhere, I'm sure of it>>4774755Finna smack that big piin>attack!
>>4774801>>4772749Posting an Errata to clarify the Grapple mechanics. Apologies for not being clear at the start. I realized that I didn’t explain releasing it as a free action, nor mentioning how the grappled can escape of their own volition.
Rolled 2 (1d6)>>4774802The Big Piin attempts to hold up under the attack! It’ll defend, losing 1hp if it fails and gaining 2 points if it succeeds.
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4774804Uh oh! The Big Piin is at critical health. It panics and releases the grapple, allowing it to dodge again. It then attempts an attack.
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774803Release and if possible attack
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774808>dodge this retard
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774818Whew, that’s a strong one. The Rudeling attempts to defend...
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774820Rolling to see if Serf can dodge.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774818>>4774827And it fails, taking a huge hit! It’s on its last legs. The Rudeling attempts to smash down on Twentipede in an attack.
>>4774820>>4774829As dodge loses ties, Serf is struck! It’s now at 2/3 HP, while Big Piin is at 1. Go get em, tiger.
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774833Dodge!
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4774842>Murder to death
>>4774846As Twentipede performs the final dodge, it spots an opportune moment; a weak point in Rudeling’s defenses! The time has come for a decisive blow, and it’s a sure victory! DECISIVE VICTORY > Non-Lethal> Finishing Move (describe)
>>4774855Forgot to attach, whoops.
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774848One more attempt at a dodge from the blue grappler. Fail, and it perishes here.Roll your speed.
>>4774855>Non-LethalThe opponent put up a good fight and has earned the right to fight another day
>>4774868The Rudeling is knocked out by the swift blow. It falls over, battered, but alive and well. Its owner appreciates your mercy. Congratulations! Twentipede has made it to the next round! Please stay tuned while I run for Boa Worm next.
>>4773791>>4773962Heya, Boa Worm and Caterdriller. Let me know when you guys are present and able to begin. The Serf vs Big Piin battle is almost over, and by the time you guys arrive, it should be done.
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4774861
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4774880The Big Piin manages to survive by dancing out of the way! It uses those big ol mandibles to attack, trying to snip at Serf and bring the big guy down to its level.
Scaraman here, school’s over! I’m ready to kick this bastard bug’s ass in, let me in the ring
>>4775043Alright! I’ll draw up your opponent. It’s kinda late here though, so I might have to vanish for the night soon. Gimme a bit.
>>4775043Apologies for the weird style, I had to make this on mobile.SHIELDSHANK will be your opponent. The scorpion-like bug prefers to trap its opponents with its guard, and grapple them into submission. It lacks physical power, and prefers to strike a single lethal blow after immobilizing its foe. Your move first.
a new challenger approachesthe Saturnite is a nocturnal insect, even in complete darkness it will dive-bomb towards its prey with impressive accuracyfor some reason it is strongly attracted to light sources
>>4775083Welcome to the tourney! Another reminder for Boa and Caterdriller to check in with confirmation, so I can start their rounds. >>4774888And Serf’s turn to react and attack.
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4775072>attack
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4775110Shieldshank attempts a defense.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4775110>>4775129A failure! It’s struck by a flurry of deadly blades. The beast attempts to grapple Scaracut and clamp it between two of its heavy digits.
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4775132It is of no use: nothing can escape the mighty claws of the Scaracut! Leaping on the shielded abomination, the bug goes for another assault
>>4775145Also I don’t try to fight the grapple. I am allowed to do so right?
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)Wait Nevermind I’m dumb. This is his turn, I must react. I try to dodge the grapple
Rolled 5 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4775151>>4775148Yes, you’re allowed to skip a defensive action and let yourself be grappled if you think it’s advantageous. I have to sleep after this. But it’ll be your turn to attack/grapple after this roll determines if your dodge is successful.
>>4775163Gnight man! And I probably should have let myself get grappled. No use in giving the enemy a free point for their win
>>4775176You get points for successful defensive actions. As it’s your dodge, you just don’t get your point. The enemy also gets nothing. You’re grappled now, though, so feel free to take your turn and roll an action while I’m asleep.
whores kneel before chad rolypolygon
>>4772746whats the point in putting points into both strength and grapplelike you have to choose between whether you want to go for HP or Grapple Win anyway, so there is no benefit in switching up between grapples and attacks
>>4775196Aite I'm finna grapple this fool>>4775163Sorry bugmaster, I got lost, you're waiting on an offensive action or a defensive action from me?
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4775178> stabby stab stabThe furious Scaracut relentlessly slashes at its enemy in an attempt to cut off the arms and free itself from the grapple
>>4774878Boa present! sorry for taking so much, i got a shitload of stuff to do today
>>4775228If you grapple something, it also means that you’re negating their dodge. So having decent strength against a foe with no shell means that you can keep hitting them in a grapple, if your purpose is to immobilize them instead of going for a grapple victory. For example, against a foe with high dodge but the same grapple as you. Grapple also protects you against other grapples, so it’s partially defensive. Some of the better combinations are Shell/Grapple, Speed/Shell, and Attack/Speed.Tl;dr it gives you more options and can even the score in cases. >>4775233A defensive action. Piin rolled a 5 attack against Serf. >>4775797No worries. I’ll be a while before I can put yours together, but I’ll get it done.
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4775268The scorpion can’t actively do much, except hope that its shell puts up a natural defense.
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776169And it can’t! The Shieldshank starts heaving, trying to throw its enemy out of the ring. It’s on the verge of defeat now. It initiates the grapple check. Fail two and you’ll be thrown out of the ring. You have to roll the grapple instead of taking another defensive action. Beat the roll and you can choose to break out.
>>4775196What a chad.
Rolled 2 (1d6)>>4776172> alright, grapple check timeThe Scaracut isnt made for this, but the bug does not care: it is too lost in the fight, rebelling in the bloodshed and the thrill of the hunt, already preparing to taste the sweet lifeblood of the shieldshank
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4775797Fast fast, gotta go fast. The speedy Stingky attacks as soon as the match begins!
>>4776192Critical health for both. The Scaracut is in major danger of being thrown out, if it can neither finish it here nor escape the grapple.
>>4776194The Boa Worm would attempt to doge, by slithering away (i must roll for speed now right?)
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776196>attackOne final push, one last try: it must win it here, or else it’s done for!
>>4776205YES. VICTORY
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776168Dodge
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776198You do, yep. >>4776216Speed to see if your dodge works.
>>4776205>>4776210WOOO! The Scaracut gains victory and manages to break through the defenses, escaping the grapple in the process. HP VICTORY > Non-Lethal> Finishing Move (describe)
>>4776223Ok, here we go
Rolled 2 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776227Kill me
>>4776223
>>4776223Oh, this is a close one! As dodges lose ties, Serf is struck a devastating blow, piercing through its exterior. One last turn. The next to hit wins.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776232An unbeatable roll, unfortunately. The soft-bodied worm is stung. But on the bright side, it’s now Boa Worm’s turn.
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776239Now that it's opponent is within range, Boa would attempt a grapple with it's coils
>>4776226As the harsh fight reaches its end, the Scaracut dig its fangs in the hard carapace of the shieldshank, or at least tries to, but fails to reach the soft flesh.Determined still to succeed, the smaller insect jerks its head left and right, eventually freeing its fangs and throwing the rival bug against one of the pillars of the arena, knocking it out
GG mate, I’m loving this game.Just one thing, could the Scaracut get a little upsize? It seems that the whole competition outsized him by a bit
>>4776256Sure thing. Once I’m home, I’ll put together a size chart and you guys can slap down your bugs, so I have a relative scale to use in the future. >>4776254Shieldshank BTFO’d. The owner hurriedly scoops it up and escapes, while you and your bug move on to the next round.
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776246A good roll! The Stingky fears the powerful grip of its opponent, and attempts to evade with superior speed.
>>4776279Actually, managed to make one on mobile. Feel free to scale your bugs and add them in as long as it’s a size that can reasonably be fought.
>>4773962Oh, and Caterdriller, your match is ready. Lemme know if you’re available.
>>4776322Augh, forgot to attach.
>>4776329This size is fine?

>>4776328I am ready to battle, Bugmaster!
Rolled 2 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776550Alright! Your foe is Smacksnail, an armored mollusc that can move surprisingly fast by spinning around. The snail attacks.
>>4776366>>4776295Roll your speed to contest Stingky’s dodge.
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776554Caterdriller uses its shell to block the attack!
Rolled 2 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776561
>>4776566Bang. The spinning snail is deflected. It’s now Caterdriller’s turn to attack back!
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776571Caterdriller goes for the grapple!
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776567The Stingky manages to evade and scores a point for the dodge. It proceeds to attack!
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776548All I need to do is not roll a 1
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776575Even though it has a penalty, the snail relies on its heavy shell to try and ward off the attack. Defend!
>>4776589My Serf is draining the piin and consuming all the liquid inside for sustenance in a ravenous display
Rolled 5 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776588Once more Boa would attempt to slither away from danger
>>4776589And Serf does it! HP VICTORY > Non-Lethal> Finishing Move (describe)
>>4776605>>4776595Oops, just saw this. The lifeless corpse of Piin is tossed aside, eliciting gasps from the crowd. The first fatality. Serf’s brutality is met with mixed reception. It’s a show of power, that’s for sure.
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776594And defend it does. The creature spins in the opposite direction of the drill, striking it with the top of the shell and halting both their momentum. It then attacks.
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776601Go go gadget dodge.Regardless of the result, it’s your turn next.
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776617Caterdriller goes for a second defense!
>>4776622Clash after clash ensues. The snail is slowing down, and soon, it’ll leave a fatal opening. Caterdriller’s turn.
Ehh sorry BM i got a bit lost>>4776588If this is his attack>>4776620For what is this roll for?
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776625MOAR GRAPPLE!
>>4776626That’s to contest the dodge. When you defend, you have to beat the attack roll. When you dodge, however, both parties have to roll speed. It’s why dodge needs so many more points to win, and why it loses ties. It gives the advantage of turning the roll into a speed contest.
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776627This time, the snail attempts to dodge instead.Roll speed.
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>4776630WE CAN DO IT, CATERDRILLER!
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776629Thanks for clarifying, Boa would keep playing safe and go for the grapple
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776632Ruh roh. The snail dodged and gains a point. It proceeds to attack with its spinning shell again, trying to tackle Caterdriller into submission. This could be it. If the grub defends or dodges successfully, it’ll be a decisive victory.
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776634SHOW THEM YOUR STUFF, CATERDRILLER!
>>4776637Low speed means I shell first! Big brain plays win the days!
>>4776634>>4776637DECISIVE VICTORY > Non-Lethal> Finishing Move (describe)Caterdriller is the victor!
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>4776633Greedy for points, and cocky over its rolls, Stingky attempts to defend instead of dodge.
>>4776646>Drill its shell off its body, make it a bit smaller, and wear it like a hat for the remainder of the tournament.
>>4776650The execution is brutal. Smacksnail is furiously ripped from its shell, and the tattered remains are scattered from the spinning force of the drill. Caterdriller earns their trophy.Feel free to add the shell in a new image. I’m working on evolution mechanics at the moment, so a chance to update the drawings of your bugs will be coming too.
Rolled 4 (1d6)>>4776649The bug is ensnared in the coils of its foe. Stingky panics, using its action to attempt a grapple check and break free. The advantage goes to Boa Worm.Roll a grapple check. Afterwards, on your turn, you may either initiate a grapple check of your own to start flinging it out, or attack.
>>4772839>>4773012>>4773997>>4773962I’ve got something planned for the victors who’ve made it to round two so far, so stay tuned while I finalize the evolution mechanics.
>>4776665As the victors rest between rounds, you find that your bugs have entered strange, cocoon-like shapes all of a sudden. They seem inert for now, and asking around reveals that it’s a transformation prompted by winning a battle. Evolve your bugs for round 2!Obtained:> 1x Stat point> 1x Lifeline > LifelinesA lifeline is a trait that makes it slightly harder for your bug to be defeated in a certain way. You may only pick one, and all three are effectively survival upgrades. > Increase HP to 4> Increase Grapple Tolerance to 3 (requires 3 failed saves instead of 2 to be defeated) > Increase points needed to 7 (Defenders need 7 to KO you through Decisive victory.)
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776660Finally having the foe within it's coils, boa will proceed with the constriction instead of attacking
>>4776685It’s one roll to contest his escape, and another to do the check on your own turn. Kinda like dodge. Roll me another grapple check please!
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776694Here we go!
Rolled 4 (1d6)>>4776696The Stingky’s contest:
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>4776701A tie! That means that it neither fails the save, nor breaks free. On its turn, it tries to break free again, still attempting to get its dodge back. Same thing as last turn.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776706He's not getting away so easily
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776709And i must roll again for my turn right?
>>4776709Indeed he is not. Back to your turn.
Rolled 4 (1d6)>>4776713Yup!
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776716Boa is not taking risks with this one, it's going to crush him for good before it slips away!
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776716A failure to break free leaves Stingky helpless in the grip. One more grapple check and it’ll get crushed/tossed out. They’re both on the ropes. Boa is tired out from all the stinging, Stingky is helpless. The fly attempts one attack! If the worm can deflect this and then win a grapple, it clinched the victory. >>4776726Your turn was this one, right? >>4776713Which makes it Stingky now.
>>4776727Yep this is >>4776713 sorry i got confused lol
>>4776727I have to roll for shell now isn't it... (im dead as can be if so lol)
>>4776734All good. >>4776743And... Ah shit. Boa has no statistic way to avoid this max damage attack. I’m sorry. Within his grip, Stingky lashes out with a flurry of stabs, breaking free from the coil. Boa Worm is left paralyzed from the toxin. Normally, a wild Stingky would plant its eggs within. But the owner pulls it away before it can do that.
>>4775083Heya Saturnite. Check in if you’re present, and I’ll make your opponent. >>4776614>>4776734Also, we have plenty more empty tournament slots, and it’s a pity if you get eliminated before getting to fight other players. Would you like to re-enter Boa Worm in one of the other brackets? Or sign up a new bug.
>>4776754sure no prob, this is fun as heck, i don't mind replaying a few more times. Also Boa is ready for a rematch too!
>>4776772Hell yeah. Where in this bracket would you like to be?
>>4776776On the mach below my previous one so we can get a true rematch with Stingky on the second round, also before we start, i could swap Boa strength and shell stats? because i don't use attacks and defending is more beneficial to it than dodging given it's speed
>>4776783Sure thing. Feel free to make any visual alterations to him too, if you’d like.
>>4776788Here it is, isn't the most noticeable change but is something XD
>>4776805He’s back, baby! I’ll get your opponent ready.
Rolled 1 (1d2)>>4776805>>4776819Boaworm returns with a vengeance! His new opponent is Killbug, an insect with the ability to tuck itself into a tight, heavily armored shape. When powdered, its shell possesses medicinal properties, which make them popular companions for Bug Healers. They’re essentially the Chanseys of the MEGA BUG WARS world. Rollin to see who goes first as they’re tied. 1 for Boa, 2 for Killbug.
>>4776839Your go first!
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776839As normal, Boa will play it safe and go for the grapple by leaping towards it's opponent!
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776845Defending against a grapple is a bad idea. But when you have 3 shell, it’s slightly less of a bad idea. Block attempt!
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776852The Killbug manages to block it and goes for an attack on its turn.
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776860Boa would attempt to defend against the attack by parrying it with a strong swipe of it's tail.
>>4776861The spinning momentum of the roll poly damages the worm despite being smacked by the tail! Your go.
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776870Seeing that direct hits won't do much, Boa would keep trying to grapple it's foe.
Rolled 3 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776875The bug attempts a dodge instead, still using its rolling momentum.
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776879And i have to roll for the grapple again now right?
Rolled 5 (1d6)>>4776882Nope. You made a grapple roll, which was this. >>4776875. Killbug dodged, and you rolled to see if it could do that successfully. It failed, and is now grappled by you. But now it’s its turn. You get to do your own grapple checks next turn. And speaking of grapple checks, Killbug attempts to escape! Roll to contest it, and roll for your own action the turn after.
>>4776681With the wheels attached to it's feet the Wheelipede is faster then before but also has less control over its movement> Increase points needed to 7 (Defenders need 7 to KO you through Decisive victory.)
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776890He's not leaving! Also sorry for making so many questions and mistakes XD
>>4776896Damn right he’s not. The bug remains trapped. And don’t worry about it! Your turn. >>4776892Hell yeah. Congratulations on the evolution.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776900Sticking to what seems to work Boa would keep squeezing the little ball of fury.
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>4776901Contesting before its own turn-
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776903And keeps squeezing it like it' life depends on it!
>>4776905Wait, i messed up again isn't it
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776907Yep, not quite yet. After you initiate the grapple check, the enemy is one step closer to being ring-outed, but it occupies your action. It’s now Killbug’s go. The wrapped bug spins about, trying to use the burrs and spikes on its shell to damage its captor. Attack on Boa.
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776913Boa would defend itself by tightening it's coils to prevent the little one from moving at all.
>>4776918A successful defense, netting Boa two points. Now it’s your turn again. Time to finish it?
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776923Of course is time to finish this, by using the power of it's coils, Boa will trow the small ball of rage out of the ring!
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>47769282/3 chance that Pillboy gets yeeted. Let’s fucking gooo
>>4776892badass>>4776681Serf's evolution, Serfant, is clad in armor which increases his Strength by 1 and gives him the +1 HP lifeline
>>4776931GRAPPLE VICTORY> Non-Lethal> Finishing Move (Describe)
>>4776935We have a final slot for a player signup. We can also start round 2 once competing players have evolved, and I’ll also wait for Saturnite to check back in.
>>4776935Boaworm would anchor itself to the ground by using it's mouth like a suction cup and then lift his entire body up like a tentacle to trow Killbug out like a catapult, teaching the wonders of flight to the little fella.
morningim here if you want to start my battle
>>4776938For the evo i'll increase it's shell and hp"A trickier and longer body allows the Boaworm to take more hits wile also increasing the effectiveness of it's tail parrying"
>>4776329Wheeliepede's size in comparison to the other competitors
>>4776951Adding Boaworm new for too
>>4776938BM guys it's almost 05:00 am here so i'm going to bed, see you tomorrow and good battle to everyone!
>>4776939The bug goes sailing out of the arena, tucking its body in so that it isn’t battered too hard. Its owner scrambles to find it somewhere on the floor.>>4776963Goodnight! Sleep tight. >>4776945Hello! Yep, let me get your adversary prepared.
>>4776945>>4776975Blitzing into the arena is URANIFORME. This creature is notorious for clashing with moth-type bugs and assaulting them for no reason, forming a sort of rivalry between species. Rumored to be of extraterrestrial origin, these bugs carve up foes with their savage guillotine blades.
>>4776982Thought I’d make a sort of Mothra vs Battra situation.
Rolled 6 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776982thats a lot of strength, and since the saturnite is faster im gonna try attacking instead of grappling
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776986Hell yeah. The bug attempts to dodge, hissing horribly the whole way. Roll to contest the dodge. It’ll be Uraniforme’s turn after.
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776988fortune favors the möth today
Rolled 3 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4776992Oop, Uraniforme can’t beat your dodge contest by default, and takes a hit. Grapple! It attempts to hug the other insect between its savage blades, and immobilize it for a beating.
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4776994roll to dodge
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776998Speed contest. Your turn next:
>>4776999You’ve been grappled!
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4776999glad i invested into grapple, imma try to break freei can do that right?
mothbros... we got too cocky
Rolled 5 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4777002Yes you may, though it consumes your turn. >>4777003Oh fuck. Well, you still have a shot:
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4777006Oof. The horrid flying beast proceeds to attack while Saturnite is in the grapple.
Rolled 1 (1d6)>>4777009defend
>>4777011It’s not looking good for our hero, but a turnaround is still possible! Your turn.
Rolled 6 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4777009gonna attack as well, aint gonna risk a K.O. just yet
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4777014And that attack is beyond its ability to block! The beast is slashed, bleeding profusely as it attacks in turn. It refuses to release the grapple, aiming to cut the moth to bits. Attack!
>>4777020Forgot the image
Rolled 5 (1d6)>>4777020need a 6 to defend
>>4777023Close. Here it is. The two fliers are locked in close quarters. One hit will end it. Saturnite’s turn.
>>4776681Bumping this for Scaracut and Caterdriller.
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4777027come on, möth ancestors, lend me your strength!one final attack!
Rolled 2 (1d6)>>4777034One roll, to see if this ancient enemy can be struck down...
>>4777038AND IT IS!HP VICTORY> Non-lethal> Finishing move (Describe)
And with that, everybody has moved on to round 2! You’ll be battling each other now, instead of NPC bugs, with the exception of Boa Work and Stingky, for whom it’s personal. If you haven’t already, please evolve your bugs and increase one stat point and lifeline. Also, I’m going to sleep. Battling pairs may just start fighting straight away when they’re both online, just put together some MSpaint visual to represent it, like I’ve done. And feel free to pause those fights to ask questions and clarify, if I’m not around to referee. And do feel free to do practice battles and for-fun ones that don’t count towards the tournament.
>>4777040not gonna make much of a fuss about itit was a battle of attrition grappled up like that, so if he's down he's downno point in hurting him anymore afterwardsyou know, he might be an irredeemable bastard from outer space, but he was a worthy opponent, gotta respect that
>>4777057In that case, the battered, defeated foe flies off to fight another day. It sags as it makes its way through the aid. The beast will definitely not be bothering anyone for a while.
>>4777053Ah, right. I forgot I was gonna do this. Bracket updated with the fatalities, and the audience opinion of our various wrestlers.> TwentipedeA good opening match. It beat a flashy contender, and showed mercy. The audience perceives the bug as an up-and-coming star. > Scaracut Scaracut had plenty of fans due to its cool appearance and the way it busted down a heavily armored foe like that. Generally favorable reviews, and fans are excited to watch it face Twentipede.> Serf The first bug to execute its foe. This gives it a sort of Heel role in the current bracket. It has its share of fans, and they’re the sort who appreciate a good wrestling narrative.> SaturniteImmediately an iconic Face, due to the way it fought an enemy and let it escape despite their clashing natures. Seen as honorable, and many are rooting for it in the coming battle against Serf.> Stingky As a common bug this season, many Battlemologists know of Stingky. Perhaps it winning will elevate its status and reflect well on its breeders. Most people are very excited for the Boa Worm fight due to the narrative.> Boa WormThe underdog that rose from the ashes and went straight back into the ring. Definitely among the most anticipated matches, and fans are split pretty evenly on which of the two they support. The match will be watched closely by the audience. > Caterdriller Another Heel due to its gory execution and subsequent trophy wearing. Whether Stingky or Boa face it in the third round, it’ll be seen as a somewhat villainous Heel, with the potential to gravely injure or kill one of the two rivals.
the Saturnite has evolved!its wings have been reinforced to be more durable and aerodynamic+1 Speed+1 HP
>>4776681Caterdriller evolved, and is now wearing a tiny shell hat!+1 Shell+1 Grapple Tolerance
>>4777067Hell yeah>>4777154Cool drawing, and you just beat Uraniforme which had Serf's exact stats! Looking forward to the fight. As per QM's wishes, if you're up for commandeering the MS Paint, we can start the fight now (you go first due to superior speed) or wait for Bugmaster to do the drawings. (I'm going to be at work and unable to do the officiating but can still fight)

instant regret momentthe Saturnite is so baffled by its own stupidity it flinches and skips its turn
skipping turns is allowed right?
I HATH RETURNEDWITH IMAGES> upgrade Scaracut: +1 speed, lifeline: 4 hpThe scaracut emerges from its chrysalis with a more aerodynamic shell, granting the bug a greater speed which will no doubt come in use against the next, much faster opponent to even the ground

>>4777471Yes, you can.>>4777601Morning. I’ve gotta work for a couple hours before I can get home and evolve/Run the Stingky battle, sorry for the wait.>>4777642The crowd goes wild!
>>4777920No prob i have all the night
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4777678Speed
>>4777992Oof, that’s a hefty hit on Saturnite despite the speed disparity. Will the moth strike back?! A good hit will even the score, putting the two contenders at an even one hit point. But miss this and the bigger foe takes the lead. It’s looking real close!
Rolled 3 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4777318>cuntDodge

>>4777974Stingky has undergone an evolution as well. Are you ready to MEGA BUG BATTLE?
Posting for when you check in. I'll roll once you're here.
Twentypede? Bud?
>>4779368I'm here.
>>4779385>>4779368Took the liberty of dropping this here for you two. I'll be out for the night, so you'll have to update on your own. Managed to scale the bugs since I'm back on my pc.
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4779399Gonna take advantage of my higher speed and have my bug attack
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4779412I am going to use my pretty good speed and does your attack
Rolled 6 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779430Contesting your dodge with my speed
>>4779447The first hit! A failed dodge! Scaracut takes a blow, cutting its HP by a quarter. The crowd cheers. Looks like this fight is off to a nail-biting start! The bigger beetle has lost its one-hp lead, but it has a chance to tip things back in its favour if it can land a hit this turn! With its high strength, there's no chance to flop to the point that a defence is guaranteed. And its speed is almost equal! Who will come out on top? It all comes down to the dice!
Rolled 6 (1d6)>>4778957Serfant defends that paltry attack with his eye closed!
Rolled 6 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779466And now on the attack...
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779472>these rollsdodge
ah yes, three 1's in a row
I meant dodge. Dodge your attack
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4779460Scaracut is getting nervous- no one can steal its fans from them! No one!> attack
>>4779460Your turn
Rolled 4 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779487Of course my bug is gonna stand there and try to defend, by which I mean try to dodge the attack
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4779496I swear I am going to lose because god damn you are too fucking speedy for scaracut to win
>>4779473if you roll anything over a 2 now you win
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4779473>interception!
Haha! You lose the tie! I am still going to die next round tho
Rolled 5 + 1 (1d6 + 1)come on, attack!
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4779500That is why I braised it so high. It's a tie and since dodge loses ties, point for me.Attack!
>>4779516Wait you forgot to check the 1hp you lost
>>4779516You lost the tie, so you get damaged. Twenti is at 2/3.
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4779510>easy dodging mode: activate!
>>4779530Thanks for pointing it out and fixed
>>4779537>>4779510beat that you son of a biiiitch
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779537lets fucking go
Rolled 3 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779546Serfant is licking his chops now>A T T A C K

>>4779550oops did i reach 5 points and win
>>4779546>>4779537>>4779553At five points from the dodges and defenses, Serfant has scored a DECISIVE VICTORY over Saturnite! > Non-Lethal> Finisher (Describe)
Rolled 2 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4779516Defend!
Scaraman. you here?
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4779598
>>4779603You don’t roll when you win the defend. You already rolled to hit before, remember?>>4779516
>>4779607In that case my attack was 4 (2+2 >>4779516) and your defense was 3 (2+ 1 >>4779556)
>>4779556>having bullied and evaded during most of the fight, Serfant merely laughs a creepy bug laugh, and points one of it's spindly legs at Saturnite. What a poor sport!! He's mocking the bug he just decapitated a limb from! He won't stop howling like a maniac!
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4779621Time to attack!I hope I win, because if I don’t I will be mighty sad that my boye got rekt by a less-than-a-centipede
Rolled 4 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779639" a less-than-a-centipede". Getter personal? Eh you wanna be scarab beetle.Lets see if you handle my dodging.Almost rolled a d64 instead of a d6+4
>>4779659Scaraman, you there? You still need to try and beat my dodging
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4779763Righto, righto
I fucking swear dude I just can’t beat dodge builds
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4779932Attacking again
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4779974Dodge
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)I cannot possibly get a higher number than you. I lose 1 hp and go back on the offensive
Rolled 3 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4779998Dodge!ing
Will I die if I get hit one more time? Or will it be non-lethal?
>>4780042I'm leaving the choice to you.
>>4780014You can't beat that speed can you? Serious question, not mocking you or anything.
>>4780090I have literally spent the better part of this morning thinking “how can I beat the twentipede’s speed?”And the only answer I found was “using more speed I have a chance but if he levels up his own speed I am fucked”, and I turned out to be right.Yes, speed is the winner here since I do not have any grapple stat
>>4780197I'm going to bed, okay if we finish the fight tomorrow?
>>4780222Yes, G’night mate. Gg, You won this one
>>4780090He can. He needs a 4 and above to best it, which is a 50% shot.
>>4779198I'm back
>>4780427Welcome back mate. You’re pede, right?
>>4780505Nop, i'm Boa
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4779198>>4780522Alrighty, let’s go then. Attack from Stingky. The little bug begins the rematch with a flurry of stings.
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4780973Boa attempts a parry with it's tail!
>>4780522I AM Pede though
>>4780979Nice defense! Boa gets two points. Your go.
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781184Boa would leap forward trying to cach Stingky with it's tentacled mouth.
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781190Dodge! Roll me a speed contest.
Rolled 1 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4781194Grab it Boa!
>>4781196Ouch...
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781196After avoiding the blow, Stingky stabs straight at the mouth, aiming to get its foul poison injected directly inside.
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781201Making use of it's longer body, Boa would attempt another tail swipe, now coming from above his head.
>>4781204>>4781204Stingky is knocked back! Boa's turn to attack. The fly looks a lot more cautious now, observing its opponent.
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781208Boa would seem to attempt another bite grapple from Stingky's left... but is a feint! as Boa would make use of it's extra length again, this time to make a surprise tail grapple coming from Stingky exposed right!
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781213Jesus. That's definitely not blockable. Stingky attempts a dodge.
Rolled 5 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4781214Let's see if the surprise factor helps Boa compensate it's lack of speed.
>>4781217
Rolled 5 (1d6)>>4781219AND THE CROWD GOES CRAZY! The grudge match is really picking up, and fate seems to have it out for Stingky. It's wrapped up in Boa Worm's coils, immobilised and unable to dodge! It notices how close its foe is to defeating it. Stingky decides to shake things up a bit and try to defeat Boa on his own grounds. Determination floods the little fly...GRAPPLE! Those tiny pseudopods attempt, in turn, to grapple Boa while being grappled in turn.>>4777258Catedriller, you there? I'm ready to begin if you're around.
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781223Shall the best grappler attain victory!
>>4781225Is that a defense against the grapple? If so, it’ll be a -1 due to the penalty, which is 3 total.
>>4781225Lol
>>4781226Ohh... right, sorry i forgot about the penalty my bad
>>4781228All good. Now it’s your turn. We’re mutually grappled and able to initiate the grapple checking now.
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781229Boa would tighten it's coils!
Rolled 2 (1d6)>>4781231There’s no beating that. Stingky is 1/3 of the way to being ring-outed or crushed. It does its own grapple check, its tiny body hoping to surmount the odds and somehow leverage the bigger, heavier worm.
Rolled 2 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4781235Boa will defend by shifting the coils around Stingky to prevent him to get a hold on it's body.
>>4781240When under the Grappled status, instead of rolling defense, a grapple check is initiated. Both parties roll their grapple to see if the grappler can toss the other. Defense is only to stop one from being grappled in the first place. So you’d be rolling your grapple against mine, which is an instant success, and would allow you to break free from Stingky if you wish. It’s your turn after that, to either attack or initiate the grapple check.
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781243Damn i'm denser than a rock...Boa would persist on increasing the pressure then!
Rolled 6 (1d6)>>4781253Unbeatable yet again! Stingker attempts to break free of the grapple. It's now incredibly close to defeat. Same as before, this is a grapple check. Fail this and Boa releases Stingky. It'll be your turn after.
>>4777067Bracket update. The winner of the Scaracut and Twentipede fight will be battling Serf. Caterdriller's foe will make an appearance when Cater player shows up.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781272Those coils aren't giving up yet!
>>4781276On a tie, nothing changes! Stingky, even with the high roll, is unable to break out. It refuses to give up even until the end, battling its rival with all its got. Boa's turn to finish this and reclaim his pride from the first round!
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781279One final squeeze, not enough to kill the opponent, but yes to knock it out for good.
>>4781275Caterdriller is ready to battle, Bugmaster!
>>4781282And Stingky is knocked unconscious! It buzzes for a moment, stubbornly hissing and lashing out, before slowly calming down and gradually accepting its fate. Boaworm has prevailed! All that training has paid off. He'll be moving on to the next round!
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781285>>4781285As there's no opponent player to battle, unfortunately, Caterdriller will be fighting an NPC. He'll be facing KUMONGOUS, a massive, spider-like bug that brutally executed its opponent in the last round. Two heels, who've both slain their foes, duking it out in the ring! The spider bursts into action as soon as the bell rings. It's so abrupt and vicious that the referees have to discuss whether it actually attacked before the starting bell.
Rolled 4 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4781296And here comes THE SHELL!
>>4781308CLANG! The fangs bounce off the shell. Caterdriller's turn!

I'm going to sleep, kudos to Caterdriller and goodnight.

Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781345And you've broken out! The match is back at a complete impasse. Frustrated with its failure to hold its foe still, Kumongous goes back in for a standard attack.
Rolled 5 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4781346Back to the shell once more!
>>4781349Deflected! Caterdriller has the lead due to its heavy defensive capabilities.

Rolled 3 (1d6)>>4781354The spider is a cocky, aggressive fiend. It's more than willing on gambling on a 1 in 6 chance just to be a chad.DEFEND!
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781356That didn't work out. Attack!
Rolled 5 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4781359That's a lot of power, but can he defend it?

Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4781369Phew. Grapple check. Anything above a 1 and Kumo breaks free.
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4781372Wow, that sucks. Kumo will attempt a grapple of its own, to form a simultaneous grapple lock.
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781376EVEN MORE SHELL!
>>4781378And we're both grappled to each other! Your turn.

Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4781446Jesus, these rolls. Kumo goes for a grapple check again. The crowd is watching with anticipation. Smacksnail's fans have shifted their loyalties to Kumongous due to the death of their favourite bug. But Caterdriller still has tons of support!

>>4781491Kumongous is knocked out. Its bulky form collapses onto the arena floor, and the crowd cheers for the champion. Caterdriller will be moving on, and will face Boa Worm later on! Now we wait for Scaracut and Twentipede to battle.
>>4781494The victors, once again, witness their bugs go through a transformation. They return to whatever strange cocoon forms they had, molting and shifting within as they evolve to their final stages as Tier 3 bugs.PICK ONE> 1 Stat point> 1 SkillSkills can be minor upgrades. They cannot be too powerful, and some skill examples are below. Post a proposed skill and I'll vet if it's balanced. Or you may pick these. > Skill: Dodges win ties> Skill: Rolling a 6 on attacks results in a CRIT, which does 2 damage if it connects> Skill: Defense has no penalty against Grapple> Skill: Grapple check ties result in a victory for this bugThere's no way to get a stat to 5 without picking the first upgrade. But by combining your stats and skills, you can make certain attacks and abilities extremely powerful. It's acceptable to evolve and adapt based on the opponent you'll be fighting.
Com'on Scaraman, let's finish our fight.
Wh-what?! My Serfant is evolving again!! Just a joke, I'll draw a real one a little later, stat/skill are serious though>+1 Speed>Skill: Hunter: Opponents cannot attempt to dodge 3 times in a row
Added the NPC bugs to the scale.
>>4781514Good skill. Setting the number to 3 is fair, yup. Good to go!Based evolution too.
>>4781514Oh, hang on, I didn't make it clear enough, my bad. The upgrade is a choice between a stat point and a skill. You can only select one.
>>4781514>>4781527 I hate that skill
>>4781533Woops, I guess PICK ONE was invisible when I read the update, my bad!Going to pick the hunter skill since pede and scara are both speedy critters.>>4781539;-)I'll update soon. Gonna catch some Z's for now.
>>4781551Just kidding sleep is for the weak>Serfant has evolved into Serfbob!!!!!!!!
>>4781602Holy shit.
Assuming I win would either of these skills be acceptable or do I need counter to Hunter? After two successful dodges paralyse you have the option to paralyze for one turn instead of attacking or grappling. While paralyzed they can't attack or grapple while paralyzed. For every successful dodge gain a temporary "shell point" they wear off after defending whether you were successful in avoiding damage or not
>>4781619Considering the small-scale of this system, and how all the win mechanics are 3-4 successful rolls for a victory, skills that increase stat points are definitely a no-go, as they skew things too much. So the 2nd, nope. The paralyse one seems fine to me. After two successful dodges, you essentially get an extra turn by making the enemy skip theirs, yeah?
>>4781631Yeah that was the idea behind paralyze, they can still try to dodge or defend my attack though
>>4781632Yep. So to clarify, it would be:Enemy: AttackPede: Dodge, attack/grappleEnemy: AttackPede: Dodge, attack/grapple, attack, grapple?
>>4781639Enemy Attacks or tries to grapplePede dodges successfullyPede attacks Enemy dodges or defendsEnemy Attacks or tries to grapplePede dodges successfullyPede attacks Enemy dodges or defendsEnemy is paralyzed, can't attack or grapplePede attacks Enemy dodges or defendsEnemy Attacks or tries to grapple
I have mustered my willLet us finish this, fast one. May the best bug win
I know I stand no chance, but at least I shall not go quietly into the dark
>>4781688If you roll a 4 or higher you beat my dodge from >>4780014
>>4781672Sounds good to me, skill approved.
>>4781692That is not counting your speed so the baseroll must be 4
>>4780014
>>4781744Yep, that's the one you're rolling against.
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4781835That was a hit.Next successful attack wins it, and I'm attacking again
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4781846Dodgening
Rolled 3 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4781901Unless I roll a five or higher not counting my speed that is a point for you
And Scaracut dodges the attack!
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)Holy shit. Ok, I can’t get my hopes high but it’s very hard not to.Attack!
Rolled 19 (1d64)>>4781982Dodgeroll
Rolled 3 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4782001and let me try that again as this time I actually rolled a d64
>>4782001Wat
>>4782001Yeah looks like a pretty good roll, no way Scaracut can beat a nat 19.Whew, this fight is a really close one. This next dice could end it.
It's a tie which means the dodge failed and Scaracut wins!!!> Non-Lethal> Finisher (Describe)
Rolled 1 (1d1)>>4782015But it looks like Twentipede's owner is a sore loser and intends to crush Scaracut beneath his boot. Unless he rolls a 20 or higher security will stop and ban him from the tournament for life, if he succeeds he will kill Scaracut and then be banned. Yes this time I meant to roll a d1
>>4782039SECURITY! GET IN HERE!You go outside and think about what you've done. Alright, we're on to the Semifinals! It'll be Serf vs Scaracut, and Caterdriller vs Boa Worm. If anyone plans to just take the stat point, feel free to hop right into your battles. If you want to do a skill, please wait for me to be around to approve it first.Gonna head to bed, night night Bug Brawlers.
>>4782015WAIT. NO YOU FOOL I DIDNT WIN THAT WAS A SHELL ROLL. You’re not out of the game man, it was a hit roll, even though the damage was the same. We could re-do it and you’d probably win
>>4782143You're right, you never rolled to contest my dodge. I'm an idiot, anyway if you roll a seven or higher you win otherwise the fight is still on
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)
Lesgo, imma die
>>4782176>>4782164Win or lose, you'll only be walking right into the jaws... of da feet
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4782176Back in the correct timeline Twentipede dodges and gets another point before going for the attack again
>>4781501>Skill: Life sucker: for each successful grapple check the opponent loses a strength point for the rest of the battle Would this be acceptable or is too much?
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4782197Dodgening
Roll speed! I think I can dodge this, cmon
>>4782373Definitely too much, unfortunately. No skills that affect stat points directly.
>>4783463Damn, i'll increase shell then
>>478244850% chance to dodge. God this is a close one. >>4783482Sure thing. Final form Boa is good to go! Now to wait for Caterdriller’s final evolution.
>>4783482>>4783495Boa would increase it's size as well this time, being that the only noticeable physical change.
Rolled 6 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4782443
>>4782443It's over, Scaraman. Do you want me to finish this or not?
>>4783624>>4783627AAND TWENTIPEDE SCORES THE LAST HIT! The crowd watches in anticipation, seeing if the bug performs a brutal execution, or allows its foe to live.
>>4783648I'm leaving that up to Scaraman
>>4783654I’d like to live. I am honored to have been defeated by such a powerful opponent, although the shame of loss will follow me forevermore
>>4783765Non lethal it is.Once again deciding not to kill the opponent the evolved Twentipede knocks the Scaracut out and moves on to the next round.
>>4783776Hell yeah. Once Serf is here, feel free to begin. And when Caterdriller evolves, we can start the Boa match too.
>>4783782Behold the Stingipede, with a skill I hope at least partially counters Hunter
>>4783801I think I’d rule that the ‘two dodges in a row’ from Hunter would mean that you can use it twice consecutively in response to attacks. And if the opponent skips a turn, it doesn’t reset the dodge counter. Otherwise, the alternate interpretation would mean that Serf has no skill at all while Stingipede can attack twice. So it means that Pede can’t dodge on the turn after the foe comes out from paralysis.
Size comparison and hopefully insurance that I don't forget my trip again
>>4783802Pity but fair enough
>>4781501So a skill I was thinking of would be:>Observant: On your turn, you may use the "Observe" action>Observe: Check for weaknesses in an enemy's grappling or attack strength, while using your shell to buy time. Roll 1d6+shell vs 1d6+grapple or strength. The user of this ability decides whether grapple or strength is checked. If successful, gain 2 points towards a Decisive Victory.
>>4783823I think this might be too major too. It would mean that you can gain points during both your turn, and the enemy’s turn. It would be akin to them taking damage on their own turn, or failing a grapple check on their turn.
>>4783832Okay, I'll try to balance it. What if Caterdriller also risks taking damage with this action? Revised form below:>Observant: On your turn, you may use the "Observe" action>Observe: Check for weaknesses in an enemy's grappling or attack strength, while using your shell to buy time. Roll 1d6+shell vs 1d6+grapple or strength. The user of this ability decides whether grapple or strength is checked. If successful, gain 2 points towards a Decisive Victory. If unsuccessful, take 1 damage if strength was checked, or if grapple was checked, become grappled if you are not already grappled. If you are already grappled, failing this action while checking grapple counts as failing a grapple save.
>>4783843Yeah, seems more balanced now that it has a cost. It's essentially making an opponent initiate an attack on your turn. Though, I think the last tweak necessary would be having the opponent choose which stat they use when this happens.
>>4783809Quick question Bug Master, do the successful dodges have to be consecutive to trigger paralysis?
>>4783860I'd say nope, procs on two dodges. Like a special meter.
>>4783848The ability to choose a stat felt like an important part of this skill. How about this?>Spiky Shell: Your shell is now spiky! On your turn, you may use the "Graze" action.>Graze: Roll 1d6+shell vs 1d6+opponent's shell. If successful, you graze them in key vital points, tiring them out and granting you 2 points towards a decisive victory. If unsuccessful, you're caught out of position! Your opponent may take a second action on their next turn.
>>4783864As with before, I think it'd be important to have more than one option available to defend.I'd say add in the ability for opponents to dodge Graze. Otherwise it'd essentially be initiating an auto-hit Shell contest.
is this what vermin has evolved into
>>4783955I suppose so!
Will there be another tournament after this one? If there is, scaracut will have his rematch, mark my words!
>>4783965Yep, most likely. I've got a set of new default bugs for part 2. I'm not sure whether to make a new thread, though, or just use this one. Having a new op image for them would be good, but this thread is still fresh.
I hope I won’t fall into the class of “side-character that comes close to winning but loses anyway swearing he’ll get them next time” characters
>>4783966Those bugs look interesting
>>4783964Cool, good luck with whatever this is.
>>4784006Thank you!>>4783991I hope not, Scaracut is too cool to be a jobber. >>4783999Thanks! I think they look quite a bit more unique than the last set.

>>4786859I’ll wait a max of 48 hours from now, which I think is a decent timeframe. Afterwards we’ll have no choice but to perform a Bye and move Boa up in the bracket. We’ll also be able to do a battle for Third place! So Twentipede and the loser of the Boa Vs Driller fight can duke it out one more time. Scaracut, would you like to fight Stingky in a match? If you win in an official one, you’ll be able to obtain your 3rd evo.
>>4787410Hell yeah boss! I’m not gonna let those youngsters surpass my cutty boy in evolutions
>>4788269I'm curious as to what evo you have in mind
>>4788297I was thinking of doing a “return to the roots” and take something offensive, like +1 strength or a skill about cutting/slicing the enemy. Oh! I’ve got it! Maybe a roll of 6 or a roll above 8 reduces the enemy’s speed by 1 as damage to the limbs slows them down?
>>4788315Sounds good IMO.
>>4788315You should make it something having to do with rolling up dung balls lol
>>4788315I don’t think I’d allow a skill that affects stat points like that. With how small-scale the system is, a single point is major. Being able to buff stat points or nerf an enemy has huge impacts. When I’m home, I’ll throw Stingky into the fray.

Rolled 5 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4791792Serfbob rushes out!>Attack!!!!!!!!
Speed and attack versus grapple and shell, the ultimate showdown
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4791792>>4791871As usual, Boa would go for a tail swipe to keep it's foe at bay
>>4791931That was a defend roll, right? If so, -1HP, and it's your turn
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4791966Yup it was, Boa goes for the graple!
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4791790Dodgey mc dodge
Rolled 1 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4791970Grapple dodge!
Rolled 6 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4792044Not today!
Rolled 2 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4792051Argh, I'm grappled! This won't stop Serfbob from ripping you to shreds though! Attack!
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4792058Using it's tentacled head as a "hand" Boa would defend by slapping the attack down/away
>>4792063Serfbob merely punches Boa's face instead!
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4792066Ouch, Boa would give the little one a mighty squeeze! (grapple)
>>4792068Little update for ya'll.
>>4792043Unbeatable on your part, Scaracut takes the 1 hp loss! Your turn.
Rolled 3 (1d6)>>4792068Can't dodge or grapple back because I'm outgrappled, can I roll shell to defend? Or is that futile as well? If not disregard this roll
>>4792102Yes you can defend when grappled otherwise grappling would be OP as hell lol
>>4792104I can defend, just not with my stats vs your roll this time, right?
>>4792118Exactly :3>>4792099Anyways guys i'm sorry to be the pebble on everyone's shoe, but it's 04:00 am here and i have to be at work by 10:00 am, so i'll go and try to get some sleep, so good night and i'll see you tomorrow so we can destroy each other.
>>4792118You can defend against attacks when grappled. But when you're grappled, and the grappler initiates a grapple check, you can only contest it with your own grapple. The two uses of grapple are to go for a grap victory, or to stop your opponent from dodging and kill them with HP.
Rolled 2 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4792124Just know when you come back, regardless of Boa's grappling domination, they must contend with Serfbob's mighty blow!!
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4792099Thats what the 4hp are for baby!Attack
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4792500Doge!
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4792554Fucking oof man
>>4792613Your go.
Rolled 1 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4792641I’m gonna, you guessed it, attack
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793142Dodgey dodgey
Rolled 4 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4792296Tail parry!
>>4793375Also BM this is our current state on the fight right? or did i miss something?Serf 4 hp remaining 1 grapple check remaining 0 decisive victory pointsBoa 2 hp remaining 2 grapple check remaining 2 decisive victory points (from my last roll)
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4792296>>4793534(If i messed up again and isn't my turn yet ignore this roll) After slapping away Serfbob's crushing blow, Boaworm would envelop it's foe with his whole body to give him a goodnight's hug!(grapple check)
>>4793554Yep, that’s it. Boa might win here and now if it can pass this grapple...
Can I even beat or contest that roll? Is it over already?
>>4793758If you can't get the same roll or higher i suppose yes, it is over...
>>4793777Not enough shell or grapple, and can't attempt speed. Looks like we've found our 312th Champion Battlemologist!
>>4793811AND HE’S DONE IT! BOA WORM IS ABLE TO ELIMINATE SERFBOB VIA RING-OUT!Will the azure wyrm finish his foe with a fatality? Or nobly allow him to live.
The fanfare from the crowd is great. Many were rooting for the returning contender, for everybody loves a comeback story. Serfbob remains a cult classic favorite, and is steadfastly in second place! As the battle ends, Boa Worm and his trainer are awarded with the crown. The golden crown, however, seems to hum with a strange power. Some force emanates from it, and the red jewels shine with intelligence. What will our champion do? > Accept the inert crown and become the 312th Champion then and there.> Unleash the inert power within it and face one final opponent, for a reward.
>>4793836After knocking out Serfbob, Boaworm would pick it up with it's tentacles and carry him to the arena's border, then gently put him down out of the ring, since it's owner feed him well before all battles to avoid unnecessary deaths and damage to other participants little companions.
>>4793841We aren't chickens, UNLEASH THE POWER!
>>4793846https://youtu.be/ApreCAQiZ4wAs Boa Worm faces down the Crown, it seems to glow with a regal light. It begins to unfold. Those red gems transform into blazing eyes, and the three spires of the crown transform into Majestic horns. The behemoth rises from the golden circlet and stomps into the arena, shaking the earth as it does so. It dwarfs even the massive Boaworm, so grand in its majesty. THE MUSHI KING HAS AWAKENED!
>>4793849Boa would do a slight reverence to the imposing Mushi King before the fight starts, and then for the first time, it would use it's superior speed to do the first move and go for a grapple towards the neck!
Rolled 6 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793857And i forgot to roll yay!
Rolled 5 (1d6)>>4793861The King is experienced enough to know how to respond. Those red compound eyes observe for a moment. It recognizes the possibility of outspeeding its opponent, and aims to sidestep the lunge.
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)>>4793865Boa uses it's considerable length to his favor by trying to connect the hit with doing a whole body swipe!
>>4793871that "doing" sneaked into that sentence lol
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793871It connects! The King spends its turn initiating its own grapple Contest, aiming to use its turn and break free. A 6 will result in an instant success, as per ROYAL GUARD.
>>4793878A question about royal guard, it must be a nat 6 on the dice or stats count too?
>>4793882Only a nat 6.
Rolled 4 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793883Good that scared me for a second lol, Boa would tighten it's coils to prevent the King from escaping.
>>4793883On a tie we stay grappled but nothing else right?
Rolled 5 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793888Now that his foe is unable to leave, Boa would increase the pressure of it's embrace!
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793891Yup!>>4793905Grapple resist. If this fails, the King will be halfway to being thrown out.
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793908And it is! The huge bug is shaken about, his feet destabilized by the worm. He spends his turn attempting to break out as well, aiming to regain the offensive.
>>4793911ROYAL GUARD activates, allowing the king to break free. It folds its wings, before abruptly blasting them outwards like twin shields. The motion breaks the grapple, leaving it free to loom over Boa again. Your turn.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793912Refusing to let the King get away so easily, Boa would anchor it's mouth to the ground, like he did against killbug and then use his body to grab Mushi King by the neck and horn!
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793375Not today! Contest
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793925The Green fly is struck! It tries to sting between two of Scaracut’s armour plates.
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793918The Mushi King attempts a defense! It knows perfectly well that doing so is at a disadvantage, but it gambles on the 50/50 chance to completely repel Boa, as well as gain some points with a defend.
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793936And it’s another proc of ROYAL GUARD! The beetle deflects the blow. Boa’s tendril-like body gets swatted away by the neck. Mushi King attempts a grapple of its own, aiming to STOMP right down and pin the worm firmly.
>>4793943Contesting refers to putting up a defense, dodging or being dodged, resisting being grapple-checked and trying to break from the grappled status on your turn. This is the roll to Grapple you. So it doesn’t activate Royal Guard.
Rolled 1 + 4 (1d6 + 4)>>4793943Boa would attempt to defend by doing a full body uppercut wile still anchored to the floor to knock down King when he lift's his torso!
>>4793955it was a +3 no +4 sorry, anyway that hurt
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793955Remember that Defense gets a -1 when used against Grapple! The motion fails, and Boa Worm is restrained between the mighty foot of the monarch. The Mushi King slides the foot forward, aiming to drag the worm towards the edge of the arena.Grapple check against you. Royal Guard doesn’t proc on this either, as it’s the offensive sort of Grapple Check imitated by me. Not a defense.
>>4793966Fuck! Please ignore this last post, sorry. I lost track and thought it was my turn. It’s your turn to act instead, as you’re freshly grappled.
Rolled 2 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793968Boa uses its soft body to try to slip free from the Kings grip!
Rolled 6 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793978The King presses down, hoping to make Boa expend his turn on a failed escape attempt alone...
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>4793986And the worm is kept still!NOW King will initiate that Grapple check that I rolled falsely earlier, to reduce Boa’s grapple resist.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793990Boa wraps it's tail around Musi's leg and anchors it's mouth to the ground once more, trying to lift his body along the leg to free himself.
Rolled 3 + 3 (1d6 + 3)>>4793992Now returning the favor and using he and his foe current positions, Boa attempts to flip Mushi like a tortoise!
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)
