Welcome to the Delian Region, young trainers! A land with a long standing tradition of Pokemon battles where you are about to embark upon on a great journey.

Blaze a trail across the land, challenging the Pantheon: the powerful and cunning Gym Leaders of the Region to win the honor to stand in the glorious halls of the illustrious Battle Temple on Olympus Island to challenge their most powerful representative, the Elite 4. With your victory, you will have earned the right to battle the standing Champion for the prestigious honor of becoming the new Champion of Delian.

But, with every great journey, it starts with a few steps.
So let us see who our protagonist is and what trials and tribulations await?

Well hello there young lady.
So lets talk about your home life and what perks come with it?

>Legacy of greatness: You're the child of a past champion and those who know of your lineage are in awe/intimidated by you. (Depending on how you interact with others, you gain first action at the start of a battle.)
>Daughter of a Gym Leader: Being the child of a gym leader means constantly being around Pokemon of a particular type. (Pokemon of the same type will bond to you faster)
>Both/Single Parent: Your average trainer upbringing with parent(s) that made sure you were taken care of before taking your own journey. (Better starting supplies, family can also be of assistance from time to time)
>Daughter of Research: You're the child of a Pokemon researcher (Gain better insight and knowledge on Pokemon based your parent's area of research)
>Daughter of Industry: One of your parents works for one of the major corporations. (Small discount on purchases of said company products)
>Orphan: You grew without parents in a local orphanage, requiring you to learn how to handle yourself on the streets and occasionally in the wild. (Bonus to forage items in the wild and find 'hidden' items)
>Other (include suggestion for perk, with QM approval)

[Also feel free to suggest names for our character]

So your name is Penelope and as luck would have it you're the daughter of an industry maven. While she's often quite busy, as an executive, she's always tried to make time for you and see that you're needs were taken care of. Seeing as you will be starting your Pokemon journey soon, she manage to pull a few strings with her company to get you a discount on their company's goods.

Which company does she work for?
>Silph Co. - leading manufacturers of Pokeballs (Pokeball, Great, Ultra, ????)
>Devon Company - Manufacturer of Specialized >Pokeballs (Luxury, Premier, Nest, etc)
PokeMart - proveyor of pokemon medicine (Potions and Ethers)
>HipCrates Medical- Leading developer of Pokemon related care (Heals and Vitamins)
>Poke Job - Business where trainers have their Pokemon, assist in odd jobs for rewards (bonus to rewards due to Mom's assistance)

You were quite excited when your mother informed you that Silph Co. was willing to extend her company discount to you.

[25% discount on all Pokeballs, Great Balls, Ultra balls]

Your mother helps you gather up your bag, going over your stuff to make sure you have everything with you. Assuring her that all your Camping Gear is packed up and ready to go, she smiles.

"Oh and before I forget Penelope," You mother says. "I have something for you." She gestures to the living room. "I picked you up a bonus present."

Your mother knows you quite well and would get you something that best fits your personality. So what did she get you?

>Fashionable outfit: Wherever you go, you go in style
>Training Weights: You've always been the athletic type so these small weights will make sure you keep up your fit physique
>Multi-tool: You've always been a bit of a tinkerer, so it makes sense to have a handy compact tool to fix items.
>Traveler's Cook Book: Filled with easy to make recipes for campers, for meals on the go.

Approaching the table you in fact find TWO presents awaiting you. Your mother mischievously smiles at you, gesturing for you to get on with opening your gifts. You decide to open the smaller box first. Your eyes light up at with your discovery.

"A new multi tool!"

"Yup. I didn't want you loading your backpack with a bunch of tools from the garage to take and lose on your trip. This is far more practical and useful for you on your trip."

Oh mom, really? You wouldn't do something like that...You mean, the thought crossed your mind once or twice about grabbing a few 'essentials' but this is definitely better.

"Thanks mom."

"Don't thank me just yet. Open your second present."

Ah, thats right. You pocket your new multi tool and begin to unwrap you other present. Oh wow, its from Aphrodias Department Store! They make some of the finest ladies fashion. Inside the box is a stunning new outfit. You're almost speechless.

"I know with you trudging around in the wild, you wont have too many opportunities to get dressed up, but I figure if you're going to be in the big cities, you should dress to impress." She flicks her hair with a smile.

"Of course. Thanks mom, you're the best."

"Only the best for my daughter. Now hurry up and finish getting ready. You don't want to keep Professor Olive waiting."

You give her an affirmative nod as you take your new clothes and multi tool, adding it to your inventory.

Finishing the morning brunch, gear in tow, you give your mother one last hug before heading out the door.

"Now I want you to stay safe." She says, her head resting upon yours.

"Yes, mom." You sink into her arms and body.

"And remember your manners when you're at the Professor's lab."

You give a chuckle. "Of course."

The two of you walk out the front door of your home. A faint bittersweet feeling washes over you as you figure it might be sometime before you step through this doorway again.

"But most importantly Penelope," You mother places her hand on your shoulder. "Have fun and know no matter what, I'm proud of you."

You smile brightly back to her as you head do to the side walk and begin your walk to the Professor's lab.

As you make your way down the quiet streets of Morningdew, you breeze through the light crowd of locals getting ready for their daily commute. You get a few greetings from familiar faces; the mom and pop who own the local electronics store, the woman who owns the corner cafe that lives about a block away from you and your mother. Its going to be odd to not see such familiar faces for awhile.

It takes a while longer to get to the main route to reach the Professors Lab. It always struck you as odd that she would have her place so close to the outskirts of town but it makes sense from a practical point.

Approaching the building you hear a voice breathing heavily and sprinting behind you.

"Hey wait! Hold up! I'm coming! Don't start without me!"

You turn to look to see Kalli running as fast as she can to catch up to you. Wearing a sporty outfit as always with her own travel gear as well.

"So I take it you're going to be starting your journey today as well?"

She nods and chuckles. "Yup! Been begging my parents all year to allow me to go and they finally caved in."

Kallisto parents are former Pokéathlon competitors who met while competing each other. They have quite the competitive dynamic that Kalli has also inherited.

"So, what do kind of Pokemon do you think they'll have for us?" She ask you as she slows down her running pace to match yours but you can also see her trying to push you into speed walking to the Lab entrance.

"I don't know." You give a shrug.

"I want a strong one! Not just like, battling strong. That's a given. I want one that's gonna be able to keep up with me and my training."

"Are you thinking about trying out for the Pokeathlon like your folks?"

She nods. "Of course! I mean, I have to wait awhile longer for the pro circuit, but they do have juniors competition. But I figure I can pick up a greater advantage by competing at the gyms too."

Pokeathlon's are contest where trainers and their Pokemon compete in various events of speed and strength.

"What about you? Interested in trying for the junior competitions?" She gives you a sly smile. "Oh, and what kind of Pokemon are you hoping to get?" She flexes her arm, in doing so, loses her footing but quickly catches herself.

"I could give it a chance." You say

While your more focused on becoming the next Pokemon champion, trying your hand at the Pokeathlon could be good experience. Sure you're not as athletic as Kalli but you could benefit from the training.

As for your starter...

"And I wouldn't mind a Pokemon that's versatile; a little flexibility can be the difference in a battle."

"A Jack of all trades sort, eh?" Kalli considers your words. "Sounds like you. Still I prefer the direct approach." She makes a fist and punches forward.

"That would make two of us." Another vocie answers. "So, you two will round out this group? Interesting, though it certainly took you both long enough to get here." A young man, well dressed and with well quaffed hair, stands at the front entrance of the lab.

"Hey look Penelope, its a wild Paras!" Kalli puts her hand on her cheek. "Do you wanna try catching it? It looks a bit too scrawny for me."

"It's pronounced Paris, you meat head!" He scowls. "And you wish you could catch a specimen as amazing as me."

Oh brother. Of course it would be Paris that would be part of your starting trio. The younger brother of Hecktor, a famous trainer looking to reach the status of Champion, though if you recall, he didn't fair too well his last run in with the Elite 4. He always brags about his big brother's accomplishments like they were his own. Paris isn't so bad or at least he wasn't before he got the over inflated ego.

"Just because your brother is a hotshot trainer doesn't mean you will be." Kalli sticks her tongue out.

"Oh? My brother has messaged me since the beginning of his trip, giving me tips and lessons about being a top tier trainer. With all that information in my back pocket, I'll be even better than he was when he started." He smiles smugly.

As your two schoolmates continue staring each other down, the front doors of the lab slide open. A tan skinned woman in a lab coat comes out and greets you all with a warm smile.

"Well, looks like everyone's pumped up to get started today. Great!" She places a hand on her hip and flicks her hair. "Good morning. I'm Professor Olive. I hope you're excited cause today's the big day. Today you all become Pokemon trainers!" She proudly proclaims.

The three of you get in line in front of her and bow respectfully.

"Good morning, Professor." You all three, in near perfect unison say.

She starts to laugh. "Well lets not waste anymore time. Come on in kids. Lets get to it!"

Professor Olive leads the three of you in. Paris and Kalli attempt to push past each other, while you opt to move around them, taking the lead. Neither of them says anything at you taking the opportunity to seize the moment and flank you on either side.

The Professor leads you a large open room, with a various machines along the wall and a large island table in the center.

On the table you can clearly see three orange red devices and three pokeballs.

You take a deep breathe, trying to keep yourself calm. Its the big moment.

"Alright kids, please line up here and prepare to meet your new Pokemon. The Pokemon you will be choosing from today will be a Fire type, a Ground Type and an Ice type."

Kalli fist pumps and bounces on her heels, barely able to keep herself contained, while Paris is trying to play it cool. He doesn't have you fooled though; he's just as excited as you two.

"First up, come on out." Professor Olive lets out the Pokemon on the left side. A small brown cat with a red streak on its head emerges with a yawn. Its eyes blink a few times as it takes in its surroundings.

"Say hello, to Litleo, our Fire type."

It looks up to the three of you, tilting its head, plops its butt on the ground and proceeds to start licking its paw.

"Next up, say hello to Mudbray." With a flash and a neigh, a small brown donkey comes out landing on its feet. It moves around in a circle, prancing a bit before coming to a stop and shaking its small mane of hair.

"And last and certainly not least," She picks up the last Pokeball and tosses it. "Give a warm welcome to Cubcoo."

A small white and blue bear comes out, sitting on the ground. Its front paws are in close to its chest as a small drip of ice hangs from its nose. It lets out a small gleeful sound as it looks up at each of you.

Kalli seems excited by the selection, squealing with each Pokemon's release. You know she had a game plan coming into this but you're not quite sure if she even remembers what it was.

Paris, however seems to be analyzing each Pokemon, and muttering to himself. He seems to be trying to weigh out the benefits of each Pokemon based on the information he had been taught to him by his brother.

"Well there you have it kiddos!" Professor Olive says. "So, who'd like to pick first?" She takes a quick look at each of you all trying to come to your conclusion.

"Well, how about you then?" She points to you. "You were the first one inside?"

"Hey wait a second! I was the first one here."

"The Professor has spoketh." Kalli says. "Clearly Penelope will be the first to pick, then me and then, if there's time and no one else manages to show up, you can go Paris."

"What do you mean, 'if someone else shows up'?!" He crosses his arms.

The Professor rubs the back of her head, nervously. "Well this is awkward. Rivalries already starting, even before the selection." She again gestures to you. "So how about you go ahead and pick, since they're both too distracted to choose?"

So then, young trainer. Who's it going to be?

[Rollin' for reasons]

You find yourself stuck deciding between two Pokemon. As you take a step forward to make your decision, the small Cubcoo gets up from its sitting position and walks over to you.

"Huh, seems like the little guy is taken a shine to you." Professor Olive says. "Sometimes the Pokemon picks the trainer."

Hmm, is that so?

"What do you say, little guy?" You lean down to pick up the small bear who stares back into your eyes. He gives a wide smile, seemingly please to be your Pokemon.

"Well I'd say its settled." Prof. Olive says. She walks over with Cubcoo's Pokeball and hands it to you. "Here you are."

You balance Cubcoo in your arms as you free up a hand to take the Pokeball. Woo, he's a bit chilly to the touch.

The Prof turns back around and picks up the orange red device. "And here's your new Rotom Phone. This will allow you to communicate with your family and friends, built in GPS to help you avoid getting lost, and built in Pokedex."

Awesome! So looks like your all set. Do you name your new Pokemon, stick around to see what your fellow trainers get, or go ahead and head out of the Lab?

You opt to stick around to watch to see which Pokemon Kalli and Paris take.

Paris continues to his analysis but finds his train of though interrupted as Kalli steps up.

"Hmm, I think I'll go with Mudbray." She moves in with her hand extended to him. "What do you say? We can compete in the Pokeathlon races together!"

Mudbray gives off a happy whinny and nuzzles her hand.

"Well, that looks like a yes to me." Prof Olive says.

"And that leaves me with you, Litleo." Paris says. He approaches the small cub, who's using its back foot to scratch its ear. "We're going to train extra hard to reach the championship."

Litleo gives a small roar as its top little moehawk hair flares up. Paris has to push his arms back to ensure his own hair doesn't get singe. The small cat seems amused by its masters reaction as does Olive.

"Well it seems we have three happy Pokemon and three happy trainers." She says as she finishes handing out the Pokeballs and Rotom phones. "Remember, if you all ever need anything or have any questions, feel free to give the lab a call. I'll do my best to help you if I'm available. If there's any remaining questions I'll be happy to answer them."

Paris recalls his Litleo to its ball. "Thank you Professor. I don't know about those two, but I have no questions. I know exactly what I need to do."

"Well then, good luck and safe travels." The Professor replies.

"Don't get lost now." Kalli teases him.

Paris rolls his eyes. "GPS, genius. Its almost impossible to get lost."

"Oh, right." She rubs the back of her head trying to think of something more clever to say, but is quickly distracted by her Mudbray nuzzling her hand again. Seems he was enjoying her petting.

As for you, Cubcoo has nestled himself in your arm and body. He's maintains a tight grip on your arm to avoid falling as his small feet aren't braced against anything.

Hey folks gonna start in a little bit. Just getting settled in after work.
As for the name, there will still be time to determine one.

"So what are your plans?" You ask Kalli.

"Hmm, good question." She looks up considering your question. Did she even know herself before hand? "I was probably going to either the hills or the caves."

Hmm, Rockslide Caves? You take out your Rotom Phone and verify on the system map its location. That's not too far from where you are now, in fact its just out of the way of the next town, Pirus City.

"Or maybe Mudbray and I should spend sometime in the grassy fields...."

Outside of her training and sports, Kalli's never been the kind to fully plan things out. She's a 'go with the flow and see what happens' kind of gal.

"What about you Penelope?" She ask. "Do you know where your going to go?"

"I'm going to head for Pirus City, but on the way, I'm going to spend sometime getting to know Cubcoo."

"Cool. Well, then I guess I'll catch you on the road." She says, extending her hand. You take her hand and the two of you shake. "I guess we'll get see each other around."

You nod. "If not, you can always give me a call."

"Oh thats right!" Kalli explains. She grabs her phone and sync up the scanning cams.

The phone gives off a small chime and sounds off. [New contact added.]

"Alright. Looks like we're all set." Kalli says, with her beaming smile. "I'll see you around."

You take Cubcoo's pokeball and put him inside, for now. It'll be easier to move around with the little guy in his pokeball.

You head out from the lab and make your way towards the road out of town. As you proceed, you look around and notice what looks to be Paris standing with some fellow students from school. He's showing off his new Litleo to the crowd. He stands there smugly, talking up a storm, but the little cat seems more interested at playing with its own tail.

You proceed to walk past the group, opting not to hamper Paris moment. Besides, you have your own way to go.

It's not long before you reach the city limits and reach the path. A good thirty minutes out and you take a moment to let out Cubcoo. The little bear pops out with a joyful sound. He looks around and notices he's missed a bit of time since the lab as the surroundings are more foreign. Crouching down to be at closer eye level, you extend your hand to him.

"We're on the road, little guy." You say. He turns to look at you, with interest. "Lets get proper introductions out of the way. I'm Penelope, its nice to meet you."

He tilts his head curiously for a moment before extending his own paw.

"Co." For a frosty little bear, his smile is warm and friendly.

Taking his paw into your hand, you shake. Breaking it off, you notice his hand is still out. He looks at his paw and extends both paws out. Huh? Does he want you to carry him again? Heh, well, maybe later, but for now, you should probably give him a proper name.

So what should it be?

"I'm going to call you Chilly from now on." You say rubbing his head.

Chilly seems receptive to the name as he again smiles widely. Glad to see he approves.
"Alright then. Lets see what the Rotom Dex says."

You take our your Dex and scan Chilly.

[Cubchoo. The Chill Pokemon]

Heh, that's a coincidence. Lets see what else it has to say.

[Cubchoo's ability is Snow Cloak. When their is snow on the battlefield, Cubchoo is harder to hit.]

Hmm, good to know, for the future.

[Known Moves: Powder Snow, Growl, and Endure.]

Hmm, not bad, fairly well rounded.

Putting away your Rotom and standing back up, you prepare to move out with Chilly. He's looking around quite a bit; seems like he's quite curious about the region. Being an Ice type, he mustn't be too used to a more temperate climate. We'll at least he's in high spirits, you guess it couldnt hurt to let him walk with you for a short while.

The two of your proceed down the path on your way to Pirus. As the two of you are walking down the path, you check to make sure you have a some spending money when you get to town.

Checking your pack, you notice your mother left you a little something.

[Poke Dollars Balance: 500]

Well that's not a bad start, but you'll need to earn more as you go.

QM BATTLING TIP: Traditionally, you earn more through battling with other trainers, the exchange rate being 50% of your current amount. Of course, this is just the base amount most trainers go with, unless you declare an official wager. That way, you don't blast through your money too quickly. (this information will be added to the pastebin for future reference once its been set up)

Well, for now you and Chilly are enjoying a quite and peaceful walk.

Walking along Route 1, you enjoy a pleasant stroll with Chilly, whom seems to really enjoy the scenery; perhaps the little guy hasn't had much experience outside of the lab. As you travel, the two of you consume some trail mix and cool water. His content little grumbles seem to show his approval, particularly of the fresh water. After sometime, you and Chilly reach a small clearing. The land isn't too rugged and there's little brush in the way to hinder movement.

"What do you say to a little training?" You look down at the little bear.

He pads over to the grass, stepping on it gingerly before walking on it. He moves around in a circle and nods.

Well he seems in good spirits. What should the two of you work on?

While you have yet to see how well Chilly handles himself in battle, what little you know about Cubchoos are that they're formidable in terms of physical strength and special attack. So you consider that working on either his stamina or his physical defense would be best. Taking his known moves into account, you conclude its probably best for now to get started on his stamina (HP) as it would allow him hold his own in a fight longer.

Give me 3 1d100 rolls, best result taken.

You stand in front of Chilly. He looks up at you with a curious stare. Flexing your arms, you smile. "Alright, little guy, you ready?"

Chilly looks back at you with a smile and raises up both of his arms towards you.

"No, no. Not 'up'. We're going to work out." You chuckle. You think back to some of those exercises they taught you back in gym class. "First, lets start out with a bit of stretching. Its important to stretch so you don't pull anything or cramp up."

You have Chilly watch first as you do some stretches and have him follow along. He struggles a bit, with his nose ice mucus being in the way, but with just a little work, he adjust his movements. He's quite quick to adapt with your guidence; must be quite a smart pokemon.

After working up a good sweat, you both take break. Knocking back a bit of water from your canteen, you pour out a small cup for Chilly, who happily takes it.

"Great job," You run your hand on his furry head as he contently finishes off his drink.

The two of you enjoy the peaceful moment as a soft breeze blows through and take a moment to consider things. Chilly plops himself next to you as he looks around, occasionally bumping his small cup to your canteen asking for more.

"Take it easy little guy. You don't want to drink it all in one go."

He tilts his head, curiously looking at you. He turns and looking around and points to the far distance. The open sea is barely visible over hills, almost perfectly blending into the blue sky. You chuckle.

"Well, yeah, thats water, but its not quite good for drinking and its quite a ways walk from here." You point down to his cup. "We'd run out before we make it."

Blinks a few times before looking back inside his cup, and tightens his grip around it.

"Oh no, don't worry. We'll be fine. I'm sure there's a stream or two between here and the next town. Maybe even a small lake." You comfort him. Your comforting words seem to relax him, as his grip on the cup loosens. Looking closer, you notice his tighten grip might have bent metal slightly. Little guy's certainly strong.

Rested up, you stand back up. Its still bright out, roughly midday. You've got quite a bit of time before the sun starts getting low. Chilly follows you in standing, awaiting what you have planned next.

Content with your training, not wanting to over do it, you recall Chilly and return to the main Route. With that little bit of training taken care of, it might be a good time to test out what the little guy can do in battle.

Resuming your way along the Route, you keep an eye out for any other trainers. Something a bit more casual, seeing as its Chilly's and your first time after all.

Its not too long that along with the tranquil sounds of nature, are the sounds of people up ahead. You hasten you walking pace to get a better look. Shortly you notice there's a small clearing, where people have gathered. Its like a small designated camping area, for travelers to relax, picnic, and by the looks of it, for Pokemon trainers to have battles.

There's a wide array of different looking individuals in the area. There's a two kids sitting next to a small tent, looks like they're going to be here a while. To their left, a young man with a bird cage seems to be talking to another young man with a net over their shoulder. On the right, there's a girl wearing a school uniform, laughing at a young boy with a backwards hat and shorts, who seems to be trying to crawl out of a shrub. Weird. Lastly there looks to be a woman running in work out clothes back from forest path, heading back into the area.

All of them clearly have Pokeballs with them that you can see.

Who should you approach to see about your first match?

Rolled 4 (1d4)

[Dice roll for reasons]

Knowing that Ice types are strong against Flying types, Chilly would probably have a easier time fighting again the kid with the bird cage. Its less of trying to take advantage of a fellow trainer, but more about boosting your Pokemon's confidence.

You take a deep breath and approach the young man.

"Excuse me, but are you busy? I'd like to have a Pokemon battle." You say in a polite respectable tone.

"Well, alright. Sure!" He says. "I'm on a hot streak right now!"

"Oh please." The kid with the large net rolls his eyes. "You won two battles."

"A streaks a streak!" The boy says. "So how many Pokemon do you want to use?"

You raise up Chilly's ball. "I just have one Pokemon at the moment."

"Ah, a newb huh? Well that's fine by me. I've got me a fresh catch that I've been looking to give a test." He holds up a pokeball. It looks like he has four all together, the remainder on his belt.

"Great. My name's Penelope."

He stands proud. "And I'm Clive. So then, how much shall we wager?"

[Pokemon Trainers usually bet 50% of their money when battling, unless they predetermine a price otherwise.]

"Lets go with 250."

"Sounds good." Clive says. "You ready then?"

You give a nod as you and he make some space for you to battle. The kid with the large net takes a few steps back to clear away from your impending match. Each of you take your place, Pokeballs in hand and throw!

"Go, Chilly!"

"Go, Pidove!"

A small grey bird takes flight and hovers above as Chilly lands on the ground with a enthusiastic growl.

"Hmm, an Ice type huh? Careful Pidove, We're at a disadvantage but we can do this!" Clive says.

So what's your plan of action?

"Pidove, use Leer!"

The small bird locks eyes with Chilly and stares down him down. The little bear takes a step back as the bird intimidates him.

"Hang in there, Chilly and use Powder Snow."

Chilly takes a deep breathe and blows a small gust of snowy powder.

Pidove manages dive out of the way of the attack. Chilly seems taken aback by the bird's ability to move about quickly.

"Nice one, Pidove. Lets keep it up." Clive pumps his fist.

Currently, Pidove has the edge in this fight, but neither Pokemon has taken any damage yet. So what do will you do?

"Chilly, Powder Snow again!" you call out.

"Pidove counter with your Gust attack!"

The flying Pokemon flaps its wings ferociously. Chilly's snowy attack gets caught up in the
concetrated squall, and scatters his attack while the whipped up winds collide with Cubchoo!

Chilly stumbles backwards but manages to keep his footing. He lets out a concerned sound.

"Its ok, Chilly. You can do it, just keep calm."

His confidence is looking a little shaken but he's still doing his best to put on a brave face.

"Woohoo! Nice one Pidove. Lets keep it up!"

If you had to guess, you think that Clive will call for another attack as the battle is currently going in his favor.

While things are starting to look rough, you need get a solid hit in on this surprisingly tough opponent.

"Lets give it another Gust attack, keep it on its back foot!"

Pidove gives a confident coo, as it begins beating its wings with great ferocity. You're a little surprised by how aggressive it is.

"Come on Chilly! Don't give up, use your Powder Snow one more time!"

Chilly gives off little roar as it tries to muster enough strength keep up with its opponent.

Once again, Pidove flaps its wings in preparation of its Gust, whiping up a great gale. How can this small bird be this tough? Still you hope that type effectiveness can come through as the little white bear raises his arms up and unleashes his snowy blast!

The two moves go sailing towards one and other, with great power behind each. You think that if it wasn't for the training earlier today that this burst of wind would have taken down Chilly but his training is already paying off as he holds firm despite taking a beating from such a crital attack.

But this time, despite the power of the wind, Chilly's icy attack breaks through and scores a much needed hit. The Pidove loses his stability but manages keep himself in the air. It does seem a bit shaken by the hit, being twice as effective but its still hanging in there.

So the situation is looking pretty bad, Chilly wont be able to take another solid hit like that, but if he can hold on and score another solid hit like that last one, he might make one hell of a comeback!

What will you do?

"Come on Chilly! Once more, use your Powder Snow!"

Chilly balls up his paws as he takes a deep breath, drawing in all his strength for this attack. Brave little guy wants to do his best for you.

"Pidove, finish it off with Gust!"

Clive's Pokemon flaps its wings with great enthusiasm and a powerful blast of wind flys towards the little Cubchoo. Chilly halts his attacks and braces against the blowing storm. He digs in his toes into the ground but even thats not enough. He gradually gets pushed back more and more until finally he falls backwards into a somersault. Chilly eventually stops on his stomach, but he's too tuckered out to continue.

[Chilly is unable to battle.]
[Victory goes to Bird Keeper Clive.]

[-250 Pokebills]

"Yeah, we won! Great job, Pidove!" Clive jumps up with a fist in the air. His Pidove flies over and lands next to him with its wings up in celebration.

You, on the other hand, twist your lip in disappointment. Poor, Chilly. He put up a good fight, but it looks like there's still more training to go. Taking out your Pokeball, you recall your Pokemon.

"You did a good job. Get some rest." You say.

"Great battle." Clive says extending his hand out.

"Wow. I can't believe a flying type manage to beat your Ice type." The kid with the large net says, approaching as he scratches the back of his head.

"Told ya, my Pokemon are super strong!" Clive stands proudly.

You take his hand and graciously shake it. "Congratulations."

"Thanks. Hey, why don't we exchange numbers?"

Wait, wha-. Your cheeks get red and you start feeling a bit flustered.

You nod. "Sounds good. Here."

The two of you hold up each of your phones and in a few moments.....*bing* there you go!

[Bird Keeper Clive added to contacts]

"Great! I look forward to see how my flock of bird Pokemon do against you in the future." He says.

"Same. I hope to be stronger next time." You smile as you put your phone away. "By the way, do you have some pointers? You seem to be a pretty good trainer and, well, I'm just starting out so any advice you can give me would be a great help."

"Hmm, pointers huh? Well, I guess I can help you out with that." He rubs his chin. "That said, I'm not a hundred percent sure my advice would work for you, unless you plan on capturing Flying types."

"I might. I plan on training to be the next champion and I want to have versatile team."

Clive smiles and puffs up his chest. "Well then, you'll definitely want a Flying type on your team!"

"Or a bug type." The kid with the large net steps up.

Clive turns to face him. "Why would she do that? Flying types are stronger than Bugs. And faster."

"She said she wanted to be versatile," He crosses his arms, giving Clive a snide look. He turns to you and relaxes his expression, still teeming with confidence. "and thats what Bug types are best at."

"Only if you can pull off your moves." Clive retorts. "My strategy is overwhelm your opponent with an array of attacks while constantly staying on the move. You're opponent can't hit you if you keep moving and can't counter you if you keep up a consistent offensive presence."

"That only works for so long." The kid with the net says. "While I'll agree that controlling the pace of the battle is vital, if your opponent is using a Pokemon that's slow but durable, those tactics will eventually fail."

"They didn't against you." Clive gives a large toothy grin, to the other trainers chagrin. "But of course, that's also cause I had type advantage."

"Thats the only reason why you won. I know that if my Pokemon was just a bit stronger, we would had that match."

"What do you mean?" You ask.

The kid with a net replies. "My Metapod is getting close to evolving. His defenses are exceptionally strong due to my training method. If he was a Butterfree, I wholly predict that our battle's outcome would have been much different."

"Butterfree is still a bug type though, it wouldn't have made much of a difference to my Birds."

"How did you Metapod get so strong?" You ask.

"Oh that's my training secret." He stands there smugly. "See lots of people automatically assume that due to Bugs having many type disadvantages, that makes them weak, but...I specifically train my Pokemon by putting them against type disadvantage. I've noticed that my Pokemon have showing a stronger aptitude to deal with the disadvantage I pit them against. For example, I trained my Metapod around Rockslide Caves."

"Oh I see, so boosted its Defense by having it endure Rock type moves." You figure.

"Bingo!" He nods.

"For all the good it did in our battle." Clive shrugs. "Sure, it was able to take my Pokemon's more Physical attacks but that didn't help it much against my Gust attacks."

The net trainer's lip twist, as he closes his eyes and nods. "Ultimately, yes that is true, but you didn't have nearly as easy of a time that you expected."

Hmm, both of these guys have quite the different approach to their training methods. Not at all what you were expecting. Still its good food for thought.

"But back to my point about versatility," the kid with the net resumes. "Attacks are fine and all, but having extra options can make a major difference. Even doing things like indirectly attacking can be effective."

"Only if the attacks land or your overly complicated strategies pan out." Clive shakes his head. "I prefer the direct approach."

You continue chit chatting a bit more on the subject, getting a bit more of an idea for the two trainers various battle strategy approaches. After a few more minutes though, both boys decide to take a rest and go their separate ways.

As for you, you're still here at the clearing, but Chilly is still going to need sometime to recover after that last battle. You could simply take some time to rest or you return back to the main path to Pirus City to where the nearest Pokemon Center is. Of course, you could opt to do something else, such as mingle with some of the other trainers nearby.

Before you head back on the road, it would do you some good to sit back and relax. it'll give Chilly a chance to heal abit as well. Its a lot more time consuming but helps when you're far from a Pokemon Center or low on healing items.

Enjoying the warmth of the sun, you kick back as you watch a few of the other trainers you saw earlier converse and relax as well. The running woman seems to headed off all together; she didn't seem like she was going to stick around.

As you sit back, you take stock of your plans: visiting the local Poke store is definitely on your to do list, so that you can pick up some Pokeballs. Its a good thing mom has that discount, seeing as you lost your first battle. It was good experience at least. You just have to spend some more time training and with luck maybe catch your next Pokemon.

While sitting back you happen to overhear a conversation between the two kids sitting by the tent.

"Where did you get that?" The girl says.

"I found it in the woods." The boy says.

"Really? Doesn't it belong to someone?"

"I dont think so."

He holds up a dirty looking Pokeball. "Another trainer must have lost it when trying to catch a Pokemon."

"Hmm, that Dowsing App actually works then huh?" The girl looks at the ball.

"Yup! I haven't tried it much, but it was quite a surprise."

Hmm, dowsing app? Might be something worth looking into next time you're in town.

You kick back and rest up for a few another 30 mins or so, and finally get up. Before planning on heading out from here, you stop at a water fountain and refill your water bottle. Its a bit of a surprise on how much you went through between Chilly and you. Heading back on the main route, you resume making your way to Pirus City.

>Straight on to Pirus, no side stops
>Head to Pirus but consider exploring any side paths
>Take your time to Pirus, consider finding a place to stop/camp.

Onward to Pirus City! No time for side trips or stops; the sooner to get to the city, the sooner you can hit up a Pokestore and supply up.

But a thought does occur to you. Chilly could use a bit more battle practice. If you're going to be a champion you need more experience with battles and, once you've gained some new pokeballs, possibly a new Pokemon.

While you intend to not stray too far from the main route and with Chilly slowly recuperating, you consider having fight a random wild Pokemon to help him gain a bit more experience. Hopefully he hasn't taken his first lost too hard.

Give me 3 1d100 rolls to see what you encounter (if anything)

As you walk ever closer to Pirus City, the road seems a bit more lively the afternoon arrive. Its a bit of a surprise as you would think Pokemon would be more active during the early hours and the later hours before sunset. But its a welcome sight, as you watch flocks of Pidgy and Pidove flying high in the sky, the occasional rustling of grass as Rattatas running about, and near the trees and brush, Skwovets and Pachirisus skitter around, hunting ripe berries.

You consider the options around you and debate which would present a option for Chilly to battle with. While the he'd have the advantage against the Flying types, the fact that they're in a flock might be too much of a risk. The Rattatas shouldn't be too much of a challenge but they might run long before you manage to reach them. The Skwovets and Pachirisus might present a decent challenge but again, will they just run if you get too close. Hmm, well its not just your choice, so you decide to take Chilly. The little cub comes out sitting on his butt, rubbing his face with his paws. After a quick yawn, he starts looking around his surroundings, noting the change in scenery.

"Hey little guy, how are you feeling?"

Chilly looks up to you and lets out a sigh and stretches a bit. Maybe he's still a little sore from his lost.

"Hey don't worry about it. Its how it, goes you know?" You reach out and rub his head. "It just means we have more work to do and then we'll get stronger."

Chilly's mood improves with his head rub and finally gets up to his feet.

As the two of you bond a bit more, you notice there's a rustling coming from the brush. The Pachirisu in the area, startled, dart up their tree and start looking around, while the Skwovets remain low in the bushes, lurking underneath to see what appears. Oddly enough, most of the Pokemon in the area don't seem too panicked by the disturbance. It must not be a grave threat of thats the case.

"What do you think?" You look down at Cubchoo. Chilly sniffs the air, with his head tilted. He blinks a few times but his attention is quickly taken by the faint scent of berries.

Chilly starts to slowly walk towards the brush.

"Wait, hold on. Lets see what it is first." You try to call out to him. You take out your Rotomphone and attempt to scan the area; if you can get a solid read on it you can determine a course of action.

"Audino...the Hearing Pokemon...This Pokemon has incredibly sensitive hearing, its ears acting as radars. It can pick up even the faintest of sounds."

Huh, thats strange. Its fairly rare to see something like that out in the wild. Usually Audinos are staples of Pokecenters, along with Chanseys.

It looks around the area, its ears twitching back and forth as if its surveying the area. It turns to look over at Chilly, who's still making somewhat slow progress over towards the berry bushes. The Audino comes out and heads over towards the little ice bear, who seems startled by the sudden appearance.

Update coming later tonight

You consider the situation. Audino's don't exactly have a reputation for being aggressive that you ever heard of. If worst comes to worst, you can always recall Chilly back to his Pokeball.

The Audino approaches your Cubchoo and looks it over. Its whiskers and ears twitch as it seems to be making up its mind about your Pokemon. Despite the Pokemon's lack of personal boundaries, Chilly remains calm. Confused and a little stiff in movement, but calm.

Its a few moments longer, that the pink Pokemon gives a smile to Chilly and places its hands together. There's a sudden blue glow that wraps around its body. It stretches out its arms and a wave of water comes sprinkling out. Your Rotom phone picks up the move and assesses it as Life Dew.

You watch as Chilly's remaining injuries slowly start to heal up. He seems to enjoy the hydration, even his ice mucus seems to have a greater sheen to it. Chilly gives a sound of approval as he raises up his arms, taking it all in.

[Chilly is healed up back to full HP]

You notice the bushes shaking more as something, no, someone else emerges from the green plants.

An oddly dressed person pops out right behind Audino.

"Ah, there you are!" The man comes out. "Huh? Wow a Cubchoo! So this is why you came running this way. Must've gotten lost from the mountains up north..."

"Um, excuse me?" You wave over and call out. "Actually that's my Pokemon."

Startled, the man nearly drops his rolled up papers as he looks around. He eventually focuses on you, the only person here and approaches.

"Oh! I see! That makes more sense." he nervously laughs, as she struggles to carry his scrolls in each arm. "Ah, I mean. Hello! Pokemon Ranger Brem at your service."

"Um, hi. My name's Penelope." You say. As you introduce yourself, your Pokemon waddle walks up next to you. "And this is my Pokemon Chilly."

Chilly raises his arm up proudly.

"Ah well met. I was surprised to see an Ice Pokemon in this neck of the woods but I see now. You must be one of the new trainers Professor Olive spoke of."

"You know about that?"

"Of course! I had stopped by a few days earlier to speak with her about the area. I'm on an investigation at the moment." He gestures over to the Audino, who seems to be walking by the tree and shrubs that the squirrel pokemon had retreated to earlier. If you had to guess, she's asking them if they too have any injured that need to be taken care of.

"What kind of investigation?" You ask.

"Well, I can't discuss too many details," Brem sheepishly chuckles about to reach up to rub the back of his head, but instead manages to just catch all his documents before dropping them. "But we had heard rumors of several wild Pokemon have been found by trainers to be injured." He turns to gesture to the pink pokemon. "Thats where I enlisted Audino's help with tracking the Pokemon and taking care of them."

Oh my, that sounds concerning, though for someone who can't go into details, he certainly told you quite a bit.

Do you inquire more about the Ranger's activities or move on?

"Well, I'm very grateful to the aid that Audino provided for us. Be sure to thank her for us."

Ranger Brem nods and smiles. You both turn to see the two Pokemon smiling as it seems even Chilly is thanking his healer.

"I'm sure she's happy to help out." He puts his hands on hips and turns back to you. "So, you head to Pirus or Rockslide?"

"Pirus, actually." You confirm.

"Ah very good. Fine town and the Nurse Joy there is quite friendly. Are you hoping to take on the Pokemon League or you a Pokeatholon Trainer."

"League, though I'm considering the option of trying out for the Pokeatholon."

"Always good to keep your options open."

Chilly moves back to your side and flexes. His cock sure smile beams with such pride, you can't help but smile and laugh.

"Oh, you mentioned something about other Pokemon getting injured. Is there any danger up ahead for Chilly and I?"

He shakes his head. "Not so much. To be frank though, I don't quite know what's causing the odd number of injured Pokemon." He withdraws a pocket notebook. "That said, I would suggests being careful in the forest south of Rockslide Caves and west of Pirus City. Thats where the most of the reports seem to came from."

"Thats quite a way from where we are here." You say.

"I wanted to be sure there weren't any outlying cases to get a proper scope of where to search. One of my partners is currently surveying the region as I do so."

So by the sounds of it, you should probably stick close to the main route. Still, you can move away for some Pokemon battling.

"Thanks again for the hand, Brem."

"Hey, hey, no problem. That's part of a Ranger's duty. You stay safe out there." He gives you a salute.

He goes to walk over to Audino who's currently walking around the brush, looking over the squirrel pokemon. They seem more relaxed by her presence, knowing there was no threat after all. One of the Pachirisu's are even offering her a berry.

"Should we be off, Chilly?" You look back down. He looks back at you and gives a wide smile as his ice mucus swings around.

[ah, thank you. I'll be sure to do so.]

You want give Chilly another chance now that he's been healed up. Another battle couldn't hurt right? You might be able to pick up some more money again before making it to Pirus.

Well thats kind of something you'll learn as you go and you can definitely ask in character when you're in Red cities, but I'll give you a major hint: each Gym is loosely based on a Greek God and Goddess. Certain ones are more obvious than others.
