(Special thanks to fenster for drawing the OP!)

Last time, you were the target of a merciless band of thugs who kidnapped and tortured you. Thanks to your wits and a mysterious heroine, you were able to escape, but not before learning about the true mastermind of this operation: Howie’s friend ‘Toaster’. After that incident, you received a strange threatening message from an anonymous source who was the REAL mastermind behind the attack. Wondering who that might be, you looked for Matilda for advice – learning in the process that Matilda has her own hobo and she’s in grave danger!

“Explain everything immediately.” Matilda is still in shock from the words you said.

You explain the new rules to Matilda as concisely as you could. Yes, the new rules specifically state that Entities cannot have full control of their hosts, meaning that the food entity is in trouble. The Flying Referees are out and about, so if San Wich somehow gets in contact with one, something unthinkable might happen.

“Is there someone taking care of her right now?” You wonder after explaining.

“Oliver is busy at work. There is no one but her at the dojo. She’s a well-behaved woman, so I don’t expect her to be anywhere else.” Matilda tries to sound calm thanks to the trust she has in the entity.

“He has a job? Good for him.” You’re proud that the weirdo is moving on in life.

“Getting a retail job has always been easy, Johnny.” Matilda has high standards.

“…Then why didn’t you have one before instead of doing weird stuff?” You wonder why Matilda did odd jobs if she could gain money other ways.

“I do have a Part-Time Job and I needed more money than it could offer. You know we can’t apply for full time ones, correct?”

“Yeah, I worked at Calamity’s Clinic, y’know? I have gone places.” No Janitor has done a better job than you still, though you had it before they moved out to the bigger place. “A-Anyway, we shouldn’t have gone off-topic, we have a serious matter on our hands.”

“Yes. You have any idea what we should do?” Matilda is willing to listen to your input.

What do you do?

>Tell Matilda to call this San Wich to warn her about the dangers. You cannot leave School yet. You still have a class!
>You and Matilda will sneak out of school to take San Wich to a safe place: The Calamity Clinic with Constance!
>Ask help from someone you know who’s not busy right now to check on San Wich. You have a lot of people who fit the bill.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“You should call this Sandwich and warn about what’s going on, Matilda.” You suggest. “Let’s check out if she’s fine first.”

“Her name is not Sandwich, it’s San Wich – and I would prefer if you choose between San or Ms. Wich.” Matilda doesn’t like that great entity’s name.

“Don’t be fussy and just call her…” You don’t know what’s the problem of calling one of the gods of bread by her name.

“Give me a moment.” Matilda pulls out her phone and makes the call. It doesn’t take long before she’s finished. “Done. I’m glad I walked her through how to use the phone, she got the hang of it faster than my grandfather.”

“How was she?” You wonder.

“She knew. She was part of the meeting.” Matilda deadpans.

“…But entities aren’t part of the meetings.” You turn to Philonune wanting for a clarification. Maybe if an entity controls its host, they’re the ones called to the meetings? “Or are they?”

“We have our own meetings. We can also attend yours; we have balcony seats if we chose to. The view is rather nice. Your meetings are better.” Philonune explains half-assedly.

“Huh, I always thought you saw what we did and that was it.” You respond.

“We do that as well.” Philonune makes it confusing. “Once you wake up, I feel like I was there right next to you the whole time.”

“But I don’t get the same benefit…?” You don’t like this flame bullshit anymore. You wanna see what their meetings are like.

“It is quite strange. I’m going to ask about it at the next meeting.” Philonune has big plans.

“Johnny, I can’t listen to him.” Matilda says.

“Oh, did I talk out loud?” You could swear you were thought-talking.

“No. But it’s easy to tell when you’re talking to your flame.” Matilda doesn’t sound annoyed but you can tell she is a little bit. “I don’t believe leaving Ms. Wich to her own devices is any good idea long term. Any suggestions on what I should do with her? Is it a good idea to keep her in the dojo?”

Matilda seems more open to suggestions than ever. Perhaps, a sign of her growing trust towards you. You mustn’t disappoint her though…

What’s your opinion on the subject?

>You think Matilda should take this girl to Constance, and you all can figure out something.
>Perhaps you could invite Giorsal over and figure out what to do.
>Maybe Matilda should keep doing what she was doing, and in case of need, to call you.

“I think you should try to reach out to the host, so it isn’t dangerous for the entity.” You propose.

“I told you we didn’t make any progress doing that.” Matilda isn’t happy with the suggestion despite understanding where you are coming from.

“I know, I’m just telling you which approach you should go for, but...” You adjust your glasses. “It doesn’t mean I don’t have a plan.”

“Hmm? What plan is it?” Matilda is dying to hear it. And by dying to hear it, you mean she’s just standing there emotionlessly.

“You just need to be persistent.” You nod. It worked with most of the people you know. “An inch of progress every day, you just need to keep grinding.”

“And what does that entail in this context?” Matilda wants to hear everything you have to say before she thrashes you.

“Keep trying to reach out to her until she gets sick and tired of you and does something about it.” You nod.

“I’ll advise Ms. Wich to do so.” Unjustifiably, Matilda agrees with you. “Regardless, now that you’re aware of this situation, I must ask you to come by the dojo to look at it yourself.”

“Yeah, that won’t be any problem.” You give her a thumbs up.

“We’ll be waiting. Be sure to visit as soon as you’re able to.” Surprisingly, Matilda isn’t forcing you to help immediately. “The earlier we deal with this, the earlier we can resume your training.”

“You’re giving me some leeway?”

“I heard about your deed. You’re in need of a rest, aren’t you? I do expect the help sooner rather than later, so if you want to check Ms. Wich after classes, I won’t oppose the idea.” Matilda sounds quite understanding.

You hear the bell ring once more. It’s time for you to return to classes…

“Right, I’ll call you if I decide to go.” You smile at Matilda. She nods in response and part ways, you were relatively close to her classroom since your realization made you forget to accompany her to leave her stuff there.

The final class of the day! Hooray! The torture is going to be over soonish! Back at your classroom, you look at the back and don’t see Gwendoline anywhere. To realize that that monstrous woman hates you is kinda saddening since you were trying to help her earlier today…

The final class of the day is history, which means Nina is here! Which also means you can take a nap for all you care.

What’s the plan after classes?

>Go and talk to Nina about what’s going on with Henry.
>Go and help Matilda and Sandwich.
>Go and talk to Constance about the mysterious message you received. That Judge symbol must be important.

You won’t take a nap, that was a joke, you don’t think Nina is as sleep inducing as years prior despite being such a comfy lady to be with in bed. But that same evaluation isn’t shared by your classmates who always seem to groan at the sight of her, thankfully Nina didn’t seem to catch any of it as the complaints weren’t loud. Yet, she’s not absent minded enough to not notice the atmosphere is less than stellar. It’s like the purples with Ms. Resendes, but a tiny bit better. You hear some of the comments from your classmates:

“She’s actually back, ugh…” One of your female classmates says.

“Didn’t she have a breakdown? Maybe if we bug her enough, she can stay gone for good.” Another one mentions.

“Sounds like she’s as bad as Resendes.” A purple guy has a bad feeling.

“Our substitute teacher was way better anyway.” His friend, one of your original classmates, throws her down.

“Did she get fatter…?” Sammi raises an eyebrow.

“No, I didn’t!” Scarlet responds immediately for no reason.

“I’m not talking about you, Scar-Scar.” Sammi almost facepalms. You can hear her group of friends laughing.

“Ehem.” Nina demands silence with some fake coughing. “It’s good to be back, everyone. For those who don’t know me, my name is Nina Uccelli and I’m your History Teacher – let’s get along from now on. I hope you’re excited for what is to come.”

“She doesn’t seem that bad…” One of the purple spikes comments.

“Huh, she’s as energetic as last time. Maybe it’s a permanent change?” Terry laughs to himself.

“I give her a week before she breaks down.” A dumbass Green jock says. It’s weird to treat your older classmates as ‘Greens’, but everyone in the school felt alien to you anyway.

“Hmm, what a strange clash of sentiments.” Duncan is enjoying the situation.

You feel like Nina is ignoring everything for the most part, she surveys everyone with a quick glance and stays on you for a second – you smile at her and give her a thumbs up. Women love them. She smiles and starts her class… It’s not as dull as the others, and even less when you enjoy listening to her voice now. Didn’t matter much, ‘cause some of the Purples who weren’t used to her voice were looking pretty droopy, but they did what they could to stay awake. In the end, one of her better classes despite it being noticeable that she still doesn’t have a hang of things, but she will eventually!

It was a long day, but your classes are over at last. Felt slower than usual, but you enjoyed the day.

With classes done, you determine the next course of action is to deal with Sandwich. So you get in contact with Matilda to get your hands on this issue. She’s waiting at the gate and—

“Johnny, did you read my messages?” Scarlet is on the way! You can’t leave the classroom just yet.

You haven’t yet. Fuck.

“Give me a sec.” You take out your phone, and read the messages:

You have some from Aurora and you check those first, revealing some interesting facts from what happened earlier at the kidnapping.

After the team’s celebration party and upon returning home, Aurora received a bunch of mysterious messages on Disquid from 7W157, because she’s using Howie’s laptop now that he’s out of commission. In those messages, 7W157 was bragging about their scheme on Monday to attempt to make you talk. Aurora masterfully pretended to be Howie and played along, but said she was too sick to participate, so she left everything to him. 7W157, knowing how important the plan was, agreed to do it alone.

But Aurora had a plan of her own to counterattack his. She bribed one of her sisters, the one that’s actually 7W157’s classmate, to keep an eye on him and stop his evil deed before he did anything to you. It was a mission accomplished as far as she knows, but she still wants to know what exactly happened if you have the time. Also, Aurora apologizes since she kinda forgot to tell you because she was star struck with the meeting as it was her first time. She says she’ll overcompensate you once you claim the reward she owes you because of this. There was a heart emoji at the end there.

With this information, you assume Mysterious Masked Girl 2 is none other than Bruna! Oh god, you stripped in front of Bruna! Poor girl must be traumatized! Or maybe she was a good girl and closed her eyes. Either way, you fucked up…

Oh right, you were actually going to read Scarlet’s messages. Oh, she’s asking what’s going on in the other chat, and what the new rules are. You responded to her inquiries.

Now you smile at Scarlet after you’re done. You hear her phone vibrate with the new messages, she looks at her phone, then at you – and she doesn’t look one bit amused.

“Thanks…” Scarlet pouts. “I’m not going to take more of your time, Johnny.”

“But we have a job to do, Agent Bubbles.” You adjust your glasses. You mean business.

“A job? Is someone in peril?” Agent Bubbles is ready for action. “W-Wait, don’t call me that!”

“It’s your codename, Bubbles. Follow me, I’ll bring you up to speed as we move on.” You walk past her with determination.

“That Bubbles stuff is over! Over! You hear me?!” Scarlet is not amused but starts following you anyway. “I’ll let the others know I’m gonna be busy…” Scarlet takes her phone out and sends some messages.

At the Main Gate, Matilda joins your party! Thanks to your input, Scarlet knows the situation as well, so you can dive right into the issue… By going to the Subway Train and getting there first. You had to explain to Matilda why Scarlet is tagging along, which on surface level, she doesn’t seem to have a problem with. If Scarlet effectively helped you in your latest operations, who is she to judge? You’re inside the train, waiting to arrive at your destination.

“So, what are you planning to do?” Scarlet asks you as the expert on the matter.

“We discussed that we’re going to reach the host, so the entity isn’t in danger anymore.” Matilda answers instead.

“Yeah, but how?” Scarlet just wants to know!

What’s the plan?

>You’re going to talk to the entity directly and ask him to stop influencing the host. Then you’ll have to bug the person until they start opening up.
>You’re going to call one of the Judges to help. Maybe it’ll be easier to talk to the Host in the Distant Frontier.
>You’re going to give the entity some tips to help its host, you don’t want to intervene directly.

Seems like a good enough opener. We've got to talk to the entity and get an assessment on the specifics of the situation ourselves before doing anything else really.

“I’m planning on asking the entity directly to stop influencing his host, then I’ll do what I can to talk to her. Help her open up or something.” You don’t know if this is going to work or not, but you’re going to try.

“Makes a lot of sense to me, it’s not like you can’t leave your own body, right?” Scarlet agrees with your idea.

“I agree that the base is sound, but how are you planning to get through to a person who has shut down to this level?” Matilda wants to know your plan of action.

“Slowly and delicately, how else?” You have some experience after not being either at first! Let’s see how it goes without screwing up immediately. “I don’t know if it’s going to work or not, but we must try something. Besides, if the entity gets taken away, we’re going to be in the exact same spot anyway.”

“I read the rules, but I don’t think you specified what the punishments are.” Scarlet looks at her phone to ascertain. “What’s going to happen if she gets caught?”

“I… don’t know.” You didn’t think about asking that.

“Do you guys even, like, play games…?” Scarlet looks down on you. You would destroy her in every game she could come up with.

“Last game I played something, it was all about the ‘punishments’, hehe.” You soundly smile. Oh, the memories you will always treasure. It can’t get better than that, can it?

“Excuse me?” Matilda doesn’t get your blissful expression. Scarlet looks at the Campaign Manager as well, just as dumbfounded .

“Anyway, I imagine that they are going to be disqualified. And that means the entity is taken away and perhaps the host goes into a coma.” You ignore what just happened.

“Can the referee thingies do that?” Scarlet wonders.

“I… don’t know.” You didn’t think about asking that either.

“Do you guys even want to win?” Matilda looks puzzled.

“I’ll be happy with the world not exploding, thank you very much.” You have one mission, and in that mission some nerd called the Creator gets beaten too.

“Yeah, that’s the spirit!” Scarlet nods alongside you.

It wasn’t long before you arrived at Matilda’s Dojo. Still a nice place to hang around that brings you some nice memories of cuddling and kissing. You noticed you’ve been around lately… Kinda weird, if you think about it. Anyway, Matilda leads you two to where Sandwich is.

“Greetings, Matilda.” Sandwich erratically moves around as she hears you come in. She’s watching an old TV with a cup of tea in hand. “Company!”

“Ms. Wich, it’s nice to see you doing well.” Matilda relaxes, she didn’t show it, but she was worried for her.

“Hello there, we’re Matilda’s friends, I’m Scarlet and I brim with positivity! And this is Johnny!” Scarlet introduces you two in an awkward way.

“Hey there, I’m Johnny, the funny guy.” You deadpan.

“This one.” Sandwich points at you. “The body likes this one. Please fulfill the body’s needs. The body requires it.”

“W-What?!” Scarlet is in shock.

“Pay no mind to those observations. All Ms. Wich cares about is fulfilling her host’s needs.” Matilda casually clarifies.

“So she needs me to grab something on a shelf or something?” You’re tall after all.

“W-What did she mean by that?” Scarlet doesn’t get it, or gets it and she doesn’t want to tell you.

“Your guess is as good as mine.” Matilda smirks.

Anyway, it’s time to do the deed.

What do you do?

“Tell me, Sandwich. What do you want?” You sit beside the food girl.

“Her name is not Sandwich. It’s San Wich, get it right.” Matilda gets obfuscated about it. Both Scarlet and Matilda sit down as well, there are some soft pillows for you to sit on.

“Are you sure you didn’t mishear her?” Scarlet chuckles nervously.

“I wish that I wasn’t sure.” Matilda is hurt on another level. “I didn’t mean to interrupt you, please proceed with your answer.”

“Thank you, Matilda.” San Wich gives Matilda the most robotic smile you’ve ever seen. “Could you repeat your question, Johnny? The body is overwhelmed by your and Scarlet’s presence.”

“It’s fine.” You’re in no rush. “What do you want? Like, isn’t the usual song and dance when an entity gets full control of their host to just flat out go and fulfill their own goals instead of wanting to help their host?”

“I’m not aware of the issues of other entities.” San doesn’t answer the bulk of the question. In the corner of your eye, you can see Matilda looking so proud of San for some reason – like seeing her talk makes Matilda want to cry. “My immediate goal is to satisfy the needs of the body. By satisfying the needs of the body, I hope to earn the trust of its Owner. With the trust of the Owner, I want her to recover control of her body. She sheltered me while I was defenseless, sharing her soul with me. I feel gratitude. I’ve seen the sorrow and pain that shrouds her mind. I yearn for the Owner’s happiness. The Owner must regain control for that to happen.”

“Aww, that’s adorable.” Scarlet likes the story so far.

“You can see why it’s easy to trust Ms. Wich.” Matilda adds.

“But do you have other goals aside from that?” You wonder.

“I have no interest in the tournament of the unreal. I’m searching for someone but I don’t know who, my memories faded, I need them back – I need to find this someone.” San explains rather dully. “My own selfish goals are secondary to helping the owner.”

“Right. Me, Scarlet and Matilda want to help.” You nod.

“I understand.” San Wich smiles creepily again. “Thank you.”

“Anything we can do for you to start trusting us?” Scarlet wonders.

“Matilda is an invaluable ally, I trust her judgment. I trust you, friends.” San Wich is one open-minded entity. Aw, you knew Matilda was a softie! That’s the only reason San is so trusting.

Everything is going rather well for now. But this is just the first step.

What do you do?

>“Can you tell us everything you know about what’s going on with the Owner?” You need all the information you can get.
>“You’re hunting for your memories, huh? Anything you can recall?” You want to know more about San.

Also it's almost too easy to trust San, or maybe I'm just a cynical fuck.

I can't help but feel that something isn't adding up here, not that I mean to rain on Matilda's competency. We should step out and give Giorsal a call at some point to find out what sorts of circumstances can cause an entity to lose its memories.

“Can you tell us everything you know about what’s going on with the Owner?” You require all the information you can get!

“The Owner willingly gave me control of the Body. She was present during the beginning, when I couldn’t fend for myself, when my mind was adrift. The Owner taught me how to take care of the Body, despite the Body being poorly maintained under her control. She taught me how to eat, use the bathroom and shower. The Owner calmed me down while I was scared. Once she made sure the Body wouldn’t perish under my control, The Owner stopped talking to me.” San has nice memories of those times, despite being pretty weird if you think about it. “The Owner lived alone inside a cube. The Cube wasn’t a comfortable home, it was cramped, dirty and unorganized. It was a rotten place to live. The Body enjoys living in the Dojo. In the Cube, there was a framed picture with the Owner, a Burly Man and a Little Kid. I remember the Body feeling great sadness while staring at it. I don’t know the Owner’s past. The Owner doesn’t want to live anymore. That’s all I know.”

“A cube?” You think it might be an old apartment.

“Wait, she didn’t live in the homeless shelter?” Scarlet made her own assumptions.

“I was trying to find the address of this cube. No luck so far. Soh recalled perfectly where he found her, but that whole neighborhood has the same old apartment buildings over and over again.” Matilda gives you the bad news. “Ms. Wich didn’t plan that far ahead once she ran out of food, and just left her place without a plan to come back to her shelter.”

“Good thing she met this Soh kid, then.” Scarlet smiles.

“I brought Ms. Wich around for her to try to recognize the building, but nothing either.” It’s like Matilda knew you were going to ask something like that.

“Apologies.” San Wich feels bad about it.

“I imagine this picture must be her family or something. Can you describe it in more detail?” You ask the entity.

“Very well.” San Wich tries to describe the pic to her best abilities.

You think you can picture it somewhat…

“Yeah, it totally sounds like a family pic.” Scarlet doesn’t look thrilled by this information. “Do you think something happened to them?”

“Yes.” Matilda blurts it out with no issues. Scarlet frowns at Matilda. “You’re the one who calls herself a ‘positive girl’, not me.”

“Facing the truth will help the Owner.” San Wich is sure about it.

What do you do?

>“Okay, San. We have a plan to help the Owner.” Ask San to cease control for now.

“Any ideas, ladies?” You ask the crowd for their input.

“I think this is going to be a tearjerker, sooo I think we should buy some ice cream just in case.” Scarlet nods to herself.

“The Body likes the sound of that.” San Wich agrees!

“What does ice cream have to do with this?” Matilda is puzzled.

“She’s an addict, Mat. Just ignore her.” You wave Scarlet off.

“C-Calling it an addiction is a little bit much, don’t you think?” Scarlet sounds offended. Yeah, she’s right, it’s an obsession. “Besides, it’s a light-hearted joke, y’know…?”

“Your face says otherwise.” Matilda raises an eyebrow.

“Yeah, ‘cause I’m probably going to cry…” Scarlet is ready to look like a dummy.

“Can you answer the question seriously?” Matilda is getting let down by Scarlet the longer this goes.

“I don’t know what else to say, we didn’t learn much with what San said. So, we’re locked in with Johnny’s idea, right? I’m totally down for it if you want my opinion.” Scarlet doesn’t see another way out.

“You have a point there. It’s not like the situation has changed.” Matilda doesn’t like it. “I believe us three should try to talk to the host, instead of gambling it with one person. That’s all I have to say on the matter.”

“Well, I didn’t bring you along just for you to watch.” You shrug.

“I cannot make contact with the Owner, she repels me every single time I try.” San Wich reveals. “You seem to have an idea of what to do. Matilda, friends, please tell me. I’ll do anything to find the Owner’s happiness.”

What do you do?

“It’s going to be rather simple, Ms. Wich.” Matilda takes the main role. “We’re going to need you to relinquish your owner’s body temporarily. The Owner can dispel you in her mind, but she can’t escape reality. We’re going to help her out directly.”

“We’re going to do everything in our power to make her reconsider!” Scarlet smiles warmly to San Wich.

“You three…?” San Wich looks reluctant.

“It’s worth giving it a shot, if it doesn’t work, we have other ideas.” You adjust your glasses with confidence.

“I understand.” San is willing to do anything to make the Owner come back.

“You must not try to regain control unless we say so, do you understand?” Matilda wants to make this clear to San.

“Yes.” San nods. “Please, if anything happens, inform Soh.” San Wich bows.

“I promise.” Matilda bows back. Weird exchange, but you like it.

San Wich lays down on the ground, facing upwards. She rests her hands on her midsection, and closes her eyes. Out of thin air, you see a small dark flame forming on the top of her ponytail. You’ve been wondering where the flame was, but now you know.

“She did it.” You inform the other two since neither can see flames.

The body doesn’t move an inch since the flame left, you can see her breathing fine… After a couple of seconds of anxiety, San Wich opens her eyes at a leisurely pace. She surveys the area, looks at you three – closes them back, and turns around in fetal position.

Is she trying to go to sleep!?

“Ehm, what’s your name, lady?” You attempt to break the ice.

But San Wich(?) doesn’t bother to respond, acknowledge you, or move.

“Hello there! My name is Scarlet! Nice to meet you!” Scarlet enthusiastically introduces herself to no response either.

“Pardon the bluntness, but can you acknowledge what we are saying?” Matilda doesn’t like you two being ignored.

Yeah, this lady doesn’t give a flying fuck about any of you or what’s happening. Scarlet immediately walks over to the other side to see San Wich (?)’s face. Scarlet notifies you of an important detail.

“I think she’s asleep.” Scarlet nervously says. “Maybe we should wake her up?”

“We’ve made enough noise that your assertion doesn’t seem valid.” Matilda knows the lady is just pretending.

“Hey lady, do you want some ice cream?” You offer.

No response again, only a basic girl like Scarlet would fall for that.

“Oh well.” You shrug. You need a new strategy here.

“We want to help you…” Scarlet says all disappointed as she sits down.

“…” Matilda gets closer to San Wich(?), grabs her shoulder and starts to shake her. “Wake up.” Matilda demands.

“………” San Wich(?) is as expressionless as ever, but it’s clear to all of you that she’s not even asleep. “Please stop…” She said something at last! It’s funny how different she sounds from regular San, instead of robotic she sounds jaded and dead inside.

“You’re actually here. Good.” Matilda is satisfied as she sits next to Scarlet, close to San Wich(?).

“What’s your name?” You ask again, hoping for better fortune.

San Wich(?) stands up and sits on the corner closer to her, laying her head against the flimsy walls. She didn’t say a word again. Her eyes are open without one hint of life, she’s awake… But that’s it. Scarlet goes and sits right in front of her in the same manner, laying her head on the wall and smiles. San Wich(?) doesn’t do anything.

“We want to know about you.” Scarlet tries to sound as kind as possible.

But San Wich(?) doesn’t respond.

What do you do?

>“I don’t think we can get anywhere like this.” Unlike all the people you’ve seen in trouble, she just refuses to talk.

You walk right next to Scarlet and sit right by her side. The redhead skips in place for a second, but then feels comfortable by your side. You instead had your eyes on the lady.

“Please, just talk to us.” You plea.

A panicky Matilda watches this unfold for a second, then takes the initiative and similarly, sits by your side. You’re the meat of this Scarlet-Matilda Sandwich.

“Y-Yeah.” Matilda joins like a kid who forgot her homework.

San Wich(?) glances over you three, going back and forth multiple times, reacting to what’s happening. That’s a good sign, and now that she’s in a corner, she has nowhere to go!

Scarlet puts her hands on the lady’s arms to give her some kind of comfort. The Lady lifts her head up to look Scarlet right in the eyes.

“I’m sorry…” The Lady has a ghastly voice. “Please…” She sounds in pain.

“W-We want to help— No, we want to listen.” Scarlet stumbles with her words, but she's got the spirit.

“Could you please tell us your name?” Matilda asks politely.

San Wich(?) just shakes her head.

“Please, we want to know.” You try to match the politeness and eagerness of these two.

“I don’t want to remember, kids…” The lady is in obvious pain. “It hurts… When he’s in control, I feel nothing. Please… Stop this…”

How do you respond?

>“Tell us where you live.” Take as much information as you can.
>“Can’t do that. That’s not how we roll in these parts.” You’re going to help!

“Can’t do that. That’s not how we roll in these parts.” You’re going to help whether she likes it or not!

“Nu-uh! Not our style at all! We won’t turn a blind eye to those in pain!” Scarlet agrees 100% with you in the lamest way possible.

“Y-Yeah. Within reason…” Matilda feels out of place in manner but not in intent!

San Wich grabs Scarlet’s hands…

“Don’t forget how you feel now, you’re not wrong for wanting to help… t-this is not your fault… but it’s too late.” Lady San Wich (you’ll call her that for now) has a pained smile on her face. “There is nothing you can do… Help others in need.”

“…” Scarlet’s hands are shaking, she looks out of her depth. You put your hands over all of them in an effort to calm her down.

“Even if we let you go. San Wich is worried about you, and he’s never going to stop looking after you.” You clarify she has no way out. “Just allow us to try.”

“Yes, we ask just for a chance.” Matilda puts her hands on top of yours as well, with a little more confidence than last time.

“Can you bring back the dead…?” Lady San Wich smiles wryly. “I don’t… want… to lash out… please… Bring him back...”

This poor lady is getting to her limit. Nobody seems to have a clue of what to say or do. But that has never stopped you from doing something!

How do you respond?

>“We could try.” Raise an eyebrow. False hope is a kind of hope, right?
>“Just indulge us today. We ask for just one chance. Please.” You need this to happen.

“Just indulge us today. We ask just for one chance. Please.” A promise with a possible extension if it goes well.

“We pwomise…” Scarlet hasn’t fully recuperated from the shock from before.

“I’ll make sure that is the case. Just ask your entity, I’m trustworthy.” Matilda puts her metaphorical neck on this. “Whatever the result is, it’s going to stop hurting at the end of it.”

Lady San Wich looks around absentmindedly, you see the flame on top her head fickler, San Wich and Lady San Wich must be talking between themselves. She looks like she forgot her wallet or something…

Is that how you look to everyone while you talk with Philonune…?

“Even he is putting his trust in all of you…” Lady San Wich starts calming down. “Even after I lashed out… he still looks out for me…”

“You seem puzzled, but there is no need. Ms. Wich was clear, you shared your body with her, you sheltered and protected her. Even if you think it was a mere small gesture, for those abandoned to their luck, your kindness and sympathy is priceless.” Matilda seems to talk from experience.

“………” Lady San Wich seems deep in thought, also in pain, like she has a little hiccup every now and then. It’s not easy for her to stay like this. “Ask away…” She actually agrees to be helped! The hardest step is the first one some say!

“What’s your name?” Matilda doesn’t want to call her San Wich anymore.

“I’ll be ‘Ms. Wich’ and my friend is going to be ‘San’.” Ms. Wich smiles. This isn’t confusing at all…

Matilda frowns. But hey, she got an actual answer now. Still, you need to be careful and ask the right questions. If you go by her behavior, the wrong question could trigger a panic attack.

What do you want to ask?

>“Where is your apartment?”
>“Why are you living alone?”
>“What made you change your mind?”
>“Is there any particular reason you don’t want us to know your name?”

“Is there any particular reason you don’t want us to know your name?” You wonder if there is any secret behind it.

“It’s dangerous if you do.” Ms. Wich is serious about this.

“Just knowing is dangerous? Isn’t that a bit much?” Scarlet has her own doubts.

“You’ll dig deeper into it, that’s where the danger lies.” Ms. Wich is trying to protect you.

“That’s your own assumption.” Matilda raises an eyebrow. She’s getting interested.

“You’ve gone far enough to shelter San.” Ms. Wich makes her argument.

“You’re aware of everything that has happened while your entity is in control?” Matilda makes the next connection.

“I’m not always paying attention, but San informs me about everything he has done during the day before going to sleep, even if I never gave him a response. He goes into excruciating details.” Ms. Wich is starting to look like she’s in pain.

“San is a he?” Matilda questions.

“I don’t know. But he reminds me of a little boy. It might be the memory loss.” Ms. Wich has no proof. You could ask San directly later if you still have doubts.

“Do entities have genders?” Scarlet is clueless.

“Some do.” You won’t say monsters like Icioba are either male or female.

“I’m male, if you’re curious.” Philonune reminds you he’s your bro. You always assumed that.

“Ms. Wich, could you tell us your apartment’s number? It’s virtually impossible for us to find the correct building in a day. But if we decide to look into it, I want to have a chance.” Matilda asks. She probably has a clue, but she needs a number.

“I cannot, I’m preventing you from getting into danger…” Ms. Wich refuses.

“Answer me this, are you being spied on?” Matilda makes a blunt question.

“…………Huh?” It feels like Ms. Wich is playing dumb despite her convincing reaction. It was too delayed.

“I guess not.” Matilda sighs. “How are you feeling now?”

“I’m doing well so far. You’re so kind for asking.” Ms. Wich grabs Matilda’s face and caresses her, to the money-hungry girl’s confusion. She seems kinda touchy…

What do you do?

“Anything you wanna do, Ms. Wich?” You think reminding her that life can be fun would be beneficial.

No.” Ms. Wich didn’t hesitate. Well, she didn’t hesitate in any of her answers except in one.

“Are you reaaaaaally sure?” Scarlet tries to egg on her.

“Sleep.” Ms. Wich refuses to be entertained. Who the hell does she think she is? You from one year ago during the weekend?

“Surely we can ask more questions.” Matilda doesn’t see the point.

“She already looks stressed out! Look!” You point out the facts!

Or at least she looked like that 2 seconds ago. Ms. Wich’s back in fetal position in the same spot as before and ready to go to sleep again! You don’t know when she escaped the corner, but there she is! Now that she realizes you don’t want to keep questioning her, she won’t even try to hide the fact she doesn’t want to be here anymore. You frown upon seeing her like that.

“Ms. Wich, there must be something you wanna do!” Scarlet gets closer to her again.

“Sleeping is fine. I’m tired…” Ms. Wich just doesn’t care.

“You can’t be tired. San immediately goes to sleep once she feels tired.” Matilda doesn’t fall for her lies.

“…” Ms. Wich just pretends to be asleep.

“We have a deal, Ms. Wich. You can’t ignore us.” Matilda won’t fulfill her part if Ms. Wich keeps behaving like that.

“I’m listening…” Ms. Wich says but she’s not moving.

It’s been a while since you saw an adult acting this childish…

“Stop being silly, girl! You can’t enjoy life being locked inside doing nothing but sleeping!” Unless you have video games, of course. Anyway, you act overly nice to force her to do stuff, just like your mom used to do.

“Yeah, it’s a beautiful day and no better way to bask in its glory than to stop being a sleepyhead and see it for yourself!” Scarlet joins in your exaggerated charade.

“It’s freezing outside.” Matilda ruins the mood.

“…” Ms. Wich starts sobbing.

“I-It is still enjoyable.” Matilda didn’t mean it!

“It’s not that… You just reminded me of something.” Ms. Wich tries to smile towards all of you despite the tears falling down her face. “Sorry…”

“It’s fine! Nothing to feel sorry about.” You give her a thumbs up and then offer your hand to help her stand up.

“Uhm…” Ms. Wich hesitatingly grabs your hand. You pull her up! She keeps her eyes on her feet for some reason.

“…Why did you do that? Are we leaving the house?” Matilda is confused.

“W-We haven’t decided yet. It’s more of a gesture.” You need to come up with something to do.

“Gestures are meaningless, time for some action.” Matilda wants an activity to do.

“Here.” Scarlet hands Ms. Wich a handkerchief for her tears. Ms. Wich wipes her tears away.

“Are you comfortable with following our lead or do you have something to propose?” Matilda wants the hobo lady’s opinion. “Sleeping is not an option.”

“I…” Ms. Wich is lost for words. “…………….” Yeah, she’s not saying a peep.

“Are you okay?” Scarlet gets worried.

Ms. Wich meekly nods.

“I suppose we will have to figure this out ourselves.” Matilda knows this is the best course of action.

“I think we should talk about ourselves, so Ms. Wich isn’t around a bunch of strangers.” You don’t want this to be more awkward than it needs to be.

“So we’ll have to sit down.” Matilda shrugs. Yeah, yeah, you made her stand up for nothing, good grief…

“Yeah, so? You can stand still if it bothers you that much.” You won’t sweat the details. “Ehem, I’ll start.” You point to yourself. “I’m Johnny Ando, nice to meet you.” You nervously bow to her.

“Nice to meet you.” Ms. Wich bows back.

“I’ll just talk about myself in general, not going in depth though…” You start your presentation in the worst way possible.

“Relax, Johnny! Just be yourself and everything will be fine!” Scarlet supports you. What a nice girl she is sometimes.

“Speak from the soul.” Your Master gives you some unnecessary advice.

“Here I go…”

You tell Ms. Wich who you are, what do you do for a living, what do you like to do and enjoy, and what your whole objective in the war is. In short, a little presentation about Johnny Ando… Not the full backstory yet, you feel like it would be too much.

Following your example, Scarlet does the same more or less. Just more boring because she’s Scarlet and not that interesting. That’s a joke. You don’t know why you throw jokes mentally while she’s speaking. Is it because you find her boring? Or are you just distracted by her bubble butt? To be fair to yourself, you heard this before and know all about her. And no matter how much you make fun of her, she’s still cute – so it’s natural that you’re distracted. But she’ll never hear these thoughts, so it’s utterly pointless to be unnecessarily nice. Or is it?

“I’m listening, partner. You don’t always keep your thoughts to yourself.” Philonune breaks your train of thought.

“Uh…” You forget Philonune is here sometimes, you should talk to him when you’re bored during classes.

“Sorry, but I zone out during them.” Philonune won’t entertain you. “I need time for myself as well.” That’s disappointing for the future…

After Scarlet’s long presentation. It was Matilda’s turn! She continues the same line as you and Scarlet did but more professionally. Matilda is so serious and formal, you think it would be fun to hang out with her without having something important to do. It’s all training and stuff. You bet you’ll find her cute side if you do. Not that you don’t find her cute, she’s both cute and hot. Sadly, she doesn’t see you that way. But you know what is even cuter than Matilda? Roundtida. And she was huggable. Though a hug from the real Matilda would be a real treat. Yeah, you didn’t pay attention here either, but you know Matilda’s deal even better than Matilda herself thanks to her grandfather. So you have an excuse. Not like anyone here dives deep into their own backstories. Is it too weird to call them backstories? Should you say it’s just their past? Forget it, she’s done now.

“So, what do you think?” You say as you visually confirm that Matilda is done.

“I don’t understand why you are doing this.” Ms. Wich looks guilty.

“Didn’t you hear Johnny? So you can know us better!” Scarlet smiles.

“No, I don’t understand why you are trying to help me.” Ms. Wich says ‘help’ in quotation marks with her fingers.

You swear you’ve answered this question a bunch of times and you still don’t know exactly what to say…

How do you respond?

>“We already told you, because you’re in pain and we can’t ignore that.” You’re good boys and girls.
>“Do we really need a reason?” It’s just… what you do!
>“Because San asked us, and we’re friends.” Shrug. It is that simple.

“Do we really need a reason?” You said it before, it’s how you roll here!

“Yeah, we’re just happy to help! We mean it!” Scarlet strikes with her positivity.

“Like I said, I’m personally getting compensated for my efforts, but at this point, I don’t think I can pretend I don’t care about your well-being…” Matilda shyly admits.

“Sometimes stuff just isn’t that deep, y’know? Every now and again, you need to trust your gut and do what it feels is right. And my gut has never regretted helping people, and I’m sure you won’t be the first one that makes me think otherwise.” Scarlet speaks from the heart and her Jackey Frosties’ container. “If you think stuff like ‘why me and not someone else’, or that you ‘don’t deserve it’, or anything else like that, just take the help anyway! And when you feel better, help someone else. It isn’t about just you if you keep the chain going! That worked for me at least…” Scarlet stares at you as she ends her message.

“I know we’re asking too much, and I’m not sure if we can deliver, but we’ll do our best.” You make the quintessential promise!

“Yeah! We’ll never stop until you can stand on your own!” Scarlet overpromises.

“…” Ms. Wich nods once again, solidifying the fact that she wants to give you all a chance to help her. Or she’s willing to get help. You don’t know what phrase sounds better, but the point is the same! “I don’t think there is anything you can do… I’ll never feel better… You just can’t bring them back… But I don’t want to deter you from being this kind.”

“I believe you need therapy, we’re mere high-schoolers.” Matilda is the voice of reason in an unreasonable moment.

“She also needs a big hug!” Scarlet opens her arms and grabs an overwhelmed Ms. Wich, who hugs the redhead back without a hitch.

Damn, you would love to join them, but you think it could be kind of awkward. Maybe thinking it can be awkward automatically makes it awkward. So all in all, you’re right and you shouldn’t move. Either way, you’re proud of how Scarlet has managed the situation.

The hug ends, and Ms. Wich has something to say…

“I don’t know how long I can last… It just hurts…” Ms. Wich grabs her head. “It really hurts…” She’s not acting. You wonder what kind of psychological damage can look this… well… physical! It’s kind of weird if you think about it...

You probably have this day to make a lot of progress or else Ms. Wich will shut down again. She should be more cooperative from now on, so perhaps with San’s cooperation and alternative methods, you can find a way to soothe her pain.

Sadly, this is all we have for this thread! See you next time!
