Last time, on Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Kai! Peppa went with Keli to planet Yardrat, learning about their Spirit Control techniques to better utilize Ki. Afterward, Peppa met with the eccentric therapist Chansu, finally getting to go through some lingering issues with her. After that, Peppa and Izzy manage to meet up with Gohan at last, getting an intense sparring session in that really tested the trio’s abilities, with Izzy coming out the ultimate victor. With the Mifan Tag Tournament slowly approaching, what lays in store next for the trio? Good luck, Peppa! Good luck, Izzy! Good luck, Gohan!

You smile up at the bright blue sky as you fly home. Taking the scenic route this time. You’ve been feeling quite a bit better these last few days. More focused, more energetic, more determined to improve, and… like there’s been a tension you were feeling before that’s finally been eased. Your training with Keli has been going well, got another meeting with Chansu that you feel has helped a bit, you got to see how well Gohan’s been doing, and you and Cocoa have your movie date this Friday. Four days away. Got your tickets and everything.

…Though this all said, you have been getting these annoying messages as of late. Lots of accounts trying to call you a cheat or claiming the Tournament was rigged or whatever. Bot accounts, you’ve found out, but it’s certainly been a bit of an eye-rolling affair. Not anything really new, either, just an increase in the volume of it as of late. Oh well, you’ll be able to handle it.

Anyway! You’re headed home, but is there anyone you’d like to visit today?

>A. See what Videl’s up to! Wonder who she’s picked as her tag partner? Maybe she’s up for some training!

Hmmm yeah. You’ll see if Videl is up for a quick sparring session later. For now, you’re gonna spend some time with Cocoa! You get your goggles on and give her a quick call. “Heeey, morning Cocoa!” Haha, time zones.

“Morning Peppa.” she responds with a slight yawn. “What’s up?”

“Just checking if you wanna hang out any before school starts for you. I’m off already and stuff, soooo…”

https://youtu.be/XcIkYVo9y0s

“Heh, yeah, sure, lemme get decent first.” she requests. After a bit, the two of you meet outside her home, with you more or less walking her to school. She smiles and looks up into the sky. “Just a few more days.”

“Yep! You’ve been waiting on this for a while now, but it’s almost time.” You poke her shoulder gently. “Don’t get so excited you lose sleep, though. Especially so close to winter break.”

“Hehe, I won’t, I won’t.” she replies with a chuckle.

“Anything you’ve wanted to do before then? I can still work on helping you learn to fly.” you mention, floating up slightly and getting ahead of her.

“I’m probably still a ways off before I can really do it all that well. But… actually, might have a…” she blushes and looks away. “A bit of a more personal question.”

“Oh? What’s u-” You’re rudely interrupted by a text message. Oh boy more of these. “Ugh. Thought I blocked that bot.” Tapping the side of your goggles, you find that you blocked a similar one. This is probably new. “There.”

“Everything okay?” Cocoa asks.

“Yeah, just, these bots have been bothering me much more frequently these last few days.” you explain. “Say, have you been dealing with anything similar? Like, messages complaining about your…” You poke your fingers together as you touch the ground again. “Your, uh, being with me?”

“I mean I’ve gotten a few, but not any significant increase.” She taps her chin, the two of you passing by the entrance to the studios. You both smile as you glance at it, then continue walking, yet… you get a weird sense of animosity coming from that place. Something that makes you do a double-take. Nothing really there… you think. Cocoa gets a bit closer to you. “What kinds of messages have they been sending?”

You bring up the most recent one and read it aloud. “’Traitorous wench! Your harlot ways will fool the masses no longer! Your day of ruination will come, for the filth you spread is on borrowed time! Scoundrel! Liar! Rigger of contests of skill and strength! Rest not on your laurels, Son Peppa, for we have over nine thousand…’ Yadda yadda. You get the idea.”

Cocoa blinks, dumbfounded slightly. “...How often are you getting these?”

“It comes and goes. No real set pattern to them. Might say they’re a few times a day, though.”

“Maybe you should start paying closer attention to it.” she suggests. “Like, I don’t think they could really do anything to you, but that IS a concern.”

>A. All righty. Wanna help me out with it? Maybe we should get a couple others involved

“All righty! I’ll get to work on that. You wanna help any? Oh, oh, maybe we could get some others involved too.”

“Hmm… yeah. I think I can pencil in helping my girlfriend deal with weird losers trying to bother her with bots.” she responds cheekily. Cocoa then thinks for a second, commenting, “…You know, you’ve had ‘bot’ problems pretty often this year. You were attacked by one on Z’s, right?”

You exhale a groan. “Yes. Yes I was. And… wait. You suggesting some Machine Mutants might be behind this?” you ask, raising an eyebrow.

“Stranger things have happened.” she comments.

“Yeaaah, that’s true.” You place your hands behind your head, looking up. “Getting in touch with people who know about this would be helpful. Maybe Pantea could help. And I bet 19 could too. With them working with us we’d be able to get to the bottom of this in no time.”

“That makes sense. You gonna check with them next?” she asks.

“Yeah, probably. Maybe Giru too…” Okay, day’s starting to fill up a bit with plans. But hey, might be good to finally get that over with. “Oh yeah, Cocoa, you had a question before. What was it?”

She blushes slightly, scratching her cheek gently with her finger. “Well, uh, I’ve been… curious.” Cocoa gulps. “I’ll admit that when I was kinda trying to figure out if I liked girls as much as I liked guys, I had to kinda look through a lot of…” Cocoa’s voice gets quieter. “…Stuff.”

You tilt your head. “Uh…huh?”

“S-so what I’m asking is are there any… kinds of stuff you’re… interested in?”

Raising an eyebrow, you ask, “Stuff like…?”

Cocoa hides the side of her face with her hand. “Mmmnh. Peppaaaa.”

“What?”

She straightens her back and huffs. “Peppa. What do you like about girls?” You’re about to open your mouth when Cocoa clarifies. “Physically. What do you find attractive about girls?”

>A. …Well, girls like you, duh! Obviously. Silly
>B. Oh. Ohhhh. I mean… I haven’t really thought about it like that? I just… know I find girls attractive, but havent given much thought on it beyond that

You give her a blank stare, then respond, “…Well, girls like you, duh! Obviously. Silly.” You emphasize by sticking your tongue out at her.

Cocoa sighs, shaking her head. “Of course. Okay. Right.”

There is a quiet moment between the two of you, only for you to break it by placing your hand on her shoulder. “Cocoa, I know what you’re asking. I’m not dumb. I might not go out of my way for… that kind of stuff, but I’m not ignorant to its existence. And my answer really is, ‘girls like you.’ You’re cool, you’re fun, you’re clever and cunning, you’re able to just… get me in a way few people really do, and not gonna lie, you are very, very pretty. So… don’t worry too much about that kind of stuff, okay?”

Her face is quite a bit redder than before as she takes in what you all said to her. “A-ah. Okay.” She sighs but smiles wide. “Jeeze. Way to make a girl feel special. But… thank you for that.” You get close to her school, a couple of her friends waving to her. That blonde girl, that boy in glasses, that fox kid. She gives a wave back at them. “Thanks for walking with me, Peppa. I’ll… be honest, it’s been on my mind for a while, and finally getting it out there feels like quite a relief.”

“Definitely starting to understand how that feels, believe me.” you respond. Buuuut there’s one more thing you wanna add. Leaning in, you whisper, “Just remember to clear your search history.” And for good measure you plant a teasing kiss on her cheek.

“PEPPA!” she exclaims, accused, and unable to deny the accusation, face red as a beet. You fly up into the air, giggling, and she tries to jump after you. “You get back here you!” She… actually even manages to float for a brief moment, not even realizing it, before she lands safely. “Uuuggghhh!”

“Have a good day at school, Cocoa!” Oh that made you extra happy to see. Okay! Okay. Next stop… hmm.

Well, since it’s close by, might as well head over to Capsule Corp. You kinda lazily fly over there, watching some of the morning city sights. Hustle and bustle of the city life. There’s a panda man watering his garden while snacking on a bamboo breakfast, a lady walking her rather large pet dinosaur, people all around heading to or arriving at their workplaces, you can even spot Yamcha heading off to practice with his baseball team.

You notice, however, that you’ve gotten another couple bot messages. Shorter and more direct. ‘You’ll pay for what you’ve done.’ and ‘Don’t think you can hide from the truth.’ Hmm. Annoying… but these might be useful, actually. Touching down at Capsule Corp, you manage to find Pantea, 19, Giru in the area, explaining your situation to them, then handing over your goggles to Pantea. “Few recent messages from the bots. At least I think that’s what these are. This is the most I’ve gotten in such a short timeframe.”

19 is a little bemused by this. “That this has been going on for as long as it has and you have not done anything about it sooner is… concerning, Peppa.”

“Hey, they haven’t been a big deal or anything. Not really getting to me, just… kinda weird and annoying.” you respond with a little pout.

“These have all just been directed at you as of late, right?” Pantea tries to confirm, finishing off a cup of coffee.

“Mom and dad haven’t said anything, pretty sure they didn’t get stuff like this in the first place. Only other recent ones I can think of are King Chappa and teach.” you reply. “I haven’t really checked with them either, but… hmm…”

“Giru, Giru. Have you upset anyone recently?” the little bot asks.

“Not to my knowledge. I know that Sharpner was upset with me for a while because he thought I was trying to break him and Videl up, but we patched things up nice a while back. But maybe we can try and… I dunno, check if there’s something familiar about it? Like, some specifics in the threats made?”

“Look for copypasta, got it.” Pantea hooks up a little wire to the goggles, typing away on a keyboard. “Giru, back me up with this.”

“Giru, Giru! Beginning search!” he affirms.

It takes a bit, but Pantea starts to find a few things. Though first she has to comment, “Peppa you’ve blocked nearly 100 of these accounts.”

“I haven’t really been keeping track, to be honest. How many are actually bots?”

“Hmm… seems to be 89 out of the 97. So, eight of them are from actual accounts. That said, I’m definitely noticing a few patterns. If I were to guess… aha! Okay, at least one of them is definitely using some stock phrases, and that seems to bleed over into the bot accounts.”

You smirk. “Knew it. Who would even speak like that? All flowery and weird. My ‘harlot ways’, what does that even mean?”

“Apparently it’s a reference to an obscure show from a while back. Some soap opera thing. Let’s see… few actors actually got their start there, surprisingly, while others used it as more an extra paycheck while they were busy with other things. Hmm… cast lists… huh. I’m remembering a few of these names from somewhere.”

19 glances over at Pantea’s screen. “The name Idassa matches that of one of the tournament contestants, a boy that you fought, Son Peppa. It says that this was his first acting role, as a background character in one episode.”

“Idassa… Idassa… hey yeah, I think I recall that.” Huh. Coincidence?

“Says this was one of Barry Khan’s early roles too, though not his first.” Pantea adds.

Ugh. That guy. “Great. Any other names to take note of?”

“The line in question’s a quote from the show’s antagonist, who was played by one… K. Fujicka. Apparently still a high profile actor, oh huh, it looks like he’s in that Pandora movie coming out this Friday.” Pantea states. “Hmm… there is also M. Hashimoto, who is both in this and in that old show.”

You pace around the room. “Mmmh. Dang, Cocoa would probably be able tell us all about them in a snap.”

“Giru, Giru, list downloaded to your goggles!” he declares proudly.

“Great! Okay you Pepparazzi posers, just you wait, we’re gonna get to the bottom of this!”

All of you gather around your goggles and start talking over plans. Four people that could be potential leads. Pantea does point out that she will need to split a bit of her time looking through this with her other bits of work, both in robotics research and in game design, but she intends to help however she can. Giru is definitely motivated, but… 19 points out the obvious. “You do have the money or the power for it, Son Peppa, it may be more expedient to have Baba tell your fortune and get the information there.”

“I mean, I guess she could, but that seems a little… wasteful, doesn’t it?” Pantea comments. “Just going off to Baba when this mystery could be solved on our own.”

19 relents. “Very well. It was merely a suggestion.”

“Not a bad one, but something we should keep in mind much, much later. Once we’ve exhausted other options.” you tell her. “Hmm… speaking of options, maybe we could get some help from Pilaf or something? I think he’s good with tech stuff, and he might have some idea on a few more names you’ve found.”

Pantea raises an eyebrow. “…Why do you say that?”

“Pilaf has some… interesting tastes in television.” You recall last year as you and Gohan helped babysit Baozi while his mom was busy with the rest of the Crane School, and Pilaf caught some nasty kind of flu. He was bundled up in his bed, watching lots of soap operas that you barely understood. “He’ll be able to give some notable bits of information on this.”

“Let’s check with Pilaf first, if he’s available. Who wants to come with?” you ask. You DO have suspicions of Barry Kahn, sure, but no use jumping to conclusions just yet.

“I’ll be here, gonna try to get done with some of my work first, then join up with you guys.” Pantea tells you.

“Giru is available! Giru, Giru.” the tiny Machine Mutant exclaims.

“I shall go with you as well.” 19 states.

“Okay! Contact me when you need, Pantea.” You place your fingers on your forehead, and teleport yourself and non-organic pals of yours over to Mifan. You actually appear near Master Shen first, greeting him and checking if Pilaf’s free at the moment. Which, a little surprisingly, he is.

“While I am sure you have a good reason for being here, there has been an odd incident as of late.” Shen informs you.

As you start to take note of who’s meeting the little Emperor, you notice that uncle Raditz is there too, with Jaco. He seems to take note of you as well, as you feel him approach. The doors open to reveal him with a couple other Galactic Patrol members. Pilaf sits on his throne, hands rubbing his temples, and letting out a low groan. “Hey, uncle Raditz, what’s up?” you ask.

“Some kind of criminal managed to hitchhike to Earth, thanks to a CERTAIN SOMEONE letting it out of his sight.” he grumbles, not naming names but glaring very, very hard at Jaco. “

“What kind of criminal are we talking about here?” you ask.

“Nothing we can’t handle! But! It’s always good to have some extra eyes on the ground. It’s a small, sneaky little bugger, Jiya and I managed to capture it after its latest rampage, and I was on my way to bring it to prison when… it kinda…” Jaco pokes his fingers together. “Stole my ship.”

“Apparently some kind of parasitic alien, from how Jaco described it, it should resemble a dandelion.” Raditz adds. “Goes by the name… Watagash?” he looks to Jaco for confirmation, who nods. “Shouldn’t be too much a problem, but keep an eye out if you see any unusual individuals with that thing sticking out of them.”

“That we shall do.” 19 affirms.

“Just one thing after another…” Pilaf complains, still rubbing his head. He then looks up, noticing you. “…Please tell me you’re here for a social visit.”

“Uhhh… not… exactly?” you respond with a quiet laugh. He groans louder. “But I do have a question about a… soap opera?”

His face lights up and he bolts from his throne, gleefully looking up at you. “You do?!” Raditz and Jaco quietly leave, your uncle waving to you.

Boy that was a 180. “Y-yes. Uh… Giru what was its name again?”

“The show is titled ‘Marsha Slump and the Crying Rich.’” he reminds you.

…Slump. Slump. Huh. Name sounds fa- “OOOOOH!” Pilaf seems extra giddy. “Oh that’s a melodramatic one. Yes indeed. Shu has to still get through with it, and to be honest Mai never really had the patience for it, but yes, yes. Come in, come in, let us talk.” Spotting Shen pinch the ridge of his nose and shaking his head as you enter, Pilaf starts talking up a storm, barely letting any of you get a word in. Finally you’re able to explain WHY you’re here, which eases him a bit, but intrigues him. “Ignacio’s famous speech. Yes indeed. Hmm. That is a very specific bit of text to single out.”

“Are there any others on this list that stand out to you?” 19 questions, showing him some of the cast list, and then some of the bot messages you’ve been getting by handing him your goggles. He takes a bit to go through them.

“Hmm… I recognize some lines from a few notable characters. The actors you’d be looking for have the last names Adidas, Manchamanteles, Empanada, and Arroz. Though from the look of things… ah, yes, that’s off.” he mumbles, thoughts trailing off.

“What is?”

“For people who are using these as references for bot account insults, it is odd that the most notable antagonist, Soraya, has her lines completely missing from this. I would guess it is intentional.” He rubs his chin. “Very strange, even though I saw a couple of Marsha’s lines.”

“Is there a name to go off of, then?” 19 asks.

“Yes, one Sala Cesare.” He takes a look through your goggles again. “Hmm… if I recall correctly, she actually was in the news not too long ago. Early… January, maybe? She and another lady were suing one another about something or other… think that lady was… Idasam? Yes, Idasam.”

“Giru, Giru, connection! Idasam is the mother of Idasa. Lawsuit was over an apparent disagreement on casting for Idasa.”

You snap your fingers. “That’s a clue if I ever heard one! Thank you, Emperor Pilaf!”

Even with this lead, Pilaf checks through the messages from the blocked accounts some more, letting out soft “Hmm”s as he thinks. “Well… maybe…”

“What’s up?” you ask.

“Peppa, have you, er, turned anyone down recently?” Pilaf asks.

You tilt your head. “Huh?”

“I mean, has anyone asked you out, only for you to reject them, in the last couple months or so?” he clarifies.

“Not really? At least not as far as I’m aware of. Why do you ask?”

“A few of these lines are also from spurned romance, of rejection and jealousy.” He taps on the side again. “Yep, this bot domain seems to be using a fansite dedicated to you.”

You force a smile. “Oh. Great.”

“Any connection to what we already know?” 19 asks.

“All pseudonyms used in the account, but this bit of info might be of use to you.” he replies, finally handing your goggles back. “Keep in touch with any developments to this. Anyone who soils the good name of Marsha Slump and the Crying Rich will answer to me!” He thrusts his tiny fist up into the air, and you give him a thumb’s up in return.

While you’ve got your first lead so far, and you really do have to let Pilaf get back to his own duties (much as you know he’d want to talk about soap operas with you for hours), you still figure it would be helpful to give another look over that fansite some more. Looking into it, you see it was established right after the Tournament. A blog of sorts, with a few people running it looking at the posts. Surprisingly frequent updates for it, though mostly just small bits of details and news about you, some family history, and thankfully nothing too weird.

Except… you notice a decrease in updates after a point. Still ongoing, from the look of things, but one update in particular saw a bit of a decrease. When… Cocoa shared that picture after the two of you after the movie. One of the previous regulars slowly stopped adding things to the blog, before finally disappearing completely. Things are kinda adding up.

“...19 this might sound a little weird, but, do you know if you have any fan sites like these?”

“Yes. Some have even attempted to send me ‘fan mail.’” she responds. “I became aware of one that was actually run by some of Towa’s cronies, used more as an information-gathering tool.”

You do a double-take. “You wha. It WHAT?! Towa was…” You’re going to shut down this train of thought before you connect her obsession with your mom with the internet weirdos. Shutting down in 3… 2… 1. Aaaaand that’s gonna only come up in therapy. Good. “…What did you do about it?”

“That site is no longer an active domain.” she tells you curtly.

“...Meaning?”

Her head slowly turns to face yours as she repeats, “That site is no longer an active domain.”

Giru floats behind you in worry, bringing up his little shield. “Danger detected.” he comments quietly.

You quickly look back at that site. Hmm… all active users do have some bits of contact information. Maybe you could ask around with them? Or… you could look more closely at the one who stopped updating. Maybe there’s something you could uncover from them.

You take off into the sky with 19 and Giru, with 19 going through some directories to try and locate Idasa’s place. As she does that, you look into the other user more closely. There’s… a definite lack of enthusiasm in the few posts made after that moment, while the prior ones seemed to be a bit more… optimistic? Expecting? Hmm. Wait… you’re noticing something else. There are comments under the update with Cocoa’s picture. In fact… while a few are deleted, a couple look like some of the bot messages you’ve been getting!

19 takes the lead and starts flying you all in a certain direction, having located Idasa’s residence. Still, you keep looking through the site. The user who posted less and less got more of these comments, along with genuine ones, even arguments between the two on the little blog messages. And… a few of these arguments sound familiar. Like claims you’re faking it, that you just haven’t “found the right guy,” but some more that feel a bit more… mean-spirited.

You send Cocoa a little message, just in case. Might… might be nothing, but you’d better be safe than sorry. Just a thing explaining the change you noticed and what the context was. Doesn’t reply immediately, but, yeah, she’s in class. Okay. Okay. You’re good.

Finally closing in on the location, 19 has you all touch down in North City, some distance away from what she identifies as the residence. Still within view… and wow, it’s a pretty fancy place. More a mansion than a mere house, this is definitely part of the upper class area as you spot similar residences along the way. “Sensors indicate that there are only a small number of people in the home; many automated services present.”

>A. All right, hide your Ki, get on a disguise, and enter ninja mode! You gotta scope out the area

You hide your Ki, then turn to the tiny robot. “Okay Giru, you’re up. You check in and see what’s going on while we try to remain out of sight of that residence.”

“Giru, Giru, affirmative! Will commence scouting!” He floats off, almost looking like a toy drone as he hovers through the air.

You then quickly Clothes Beam yourself a disguise. Ninja mode. Haha. Okay, now to find a hiding spot and keep track of things. You leap above a shed in the area and keep watch on the residence, using your goggles to check for life signs. “19, you take point, I’ll keep my eyes on this place. Also might need a disguise of your own, so-” You’re about to Clothes Beam up one for her… when you see she’s already gotten her own new outfit. Huh?

She gives you a soft smile. “I will remind you that I have been learning more on utilizing Magic on my own.”

“Oh. Cool! Useful! Okay, okay, time to focus though…”

Giru heads closer to the home, first flying past it, then circling it slowly, without any real pattern, as he takes in data on the surroundings. Your Scouter picks up only four people in the mansion, none particularly tough, and a few animals around the area, which matches what you could sense out earlier. There are also about a dozen machines roaming the premises, some seeming to be janitorial ones, others looking to be some form of security bots.

…Also you do decide to give Launch a quick message to make sure she’s up to speed on what Raditz and Jaco are looking for. Which, turns out she is, and is keeping a close eye on any suspicious reports. As you try to get into details on what you’re up to, though, Giru interrupts by contacting you.

“Suspicious conversation topic detected.” he informs, relaying some previous info. The people in the house are a few upper class ladies, with a red haired and larger one seeming to be the one in charge. Guessing that’s Idasa’s mother, Idasam. And from what Giru relays it sounds like it’s…

It’s a PTA meeting. Eavesdropping on a PTA meeting. Or at least, that’s what it started out as, when Idasam has to take a call. It doesn’t… completely make sense, but you do pick up a few things. Mentions of a “deal” of some sort, and getting back at… oh. Getting back at “the one who hurt (her) baby boy’s heart.” Guess you know who THAT is. But there is another thing you pick up on… mention of a shaman of some kind? …Wha?

Taking care to watch for any security bots headed his way, you tell Giru to record as much as he can. Okay. You’re getting the impression that this lady, not her son Idasa, nor her other son, Ikose, is… at the very least involved in this, if not really responsible for it. You also hear her complaining about that Salsa lady as she again brings up a “shaman.” She’s… very spiteful, to be honest.

Wait, there’s a bot headed Giru’s way. “To your left, little guy. Take cover.” He dodges out of the way as a robotic guard dog patrols the area near him. Giru actually manages to hide in an empty plant pot until it passes. However, he misses out some bits of Idasam’s conversation with whoever is on the other line, only managing to get the ending bits.

More ominously, there’s a bigger plan in play. Something they want to get done within the next couple days. Not good.

“Do you have what you need, Peppa?” 19 asks, motioning for you to stay low as you sense some people headed your way.

>A. We should check with that Salsa lady, she might be a target too

“...Wait, by heading in do you mean-?”

“Yes, yes, we get it.” the voice, muffled and clearly going through some kind of changer, can be heard. Clearly annoyed and having heard her rant before. “She’ll be exposed for the fraud she is soon enough!”

“Idaaaassaaaam? Are you done in there? We still have to go over the quality of the pheasant tendies those awful, awful high school dropouts have been passing off as ‘food.’” a lady’s voice complains.

You focus yourself and try to scan her mind, while you still can, while remaining hidden. You need to know for sure what it is they’re actually planning. It takes a bit, but… there! You’ve got it!

She, Barry Kahn, and a couple others are trying to create something to use on you that will “show your true colors.” She doesn’t actually know how it works, only that it’s involving some kind of magic charm. And you’re not the only target in her sights, apparently Salsa is candidate for this “magic charm” too. You shake your head as she walks out, then stealthily get out of there, getting Giru to come along with you, avoiding security and suspicion.

But as you head off, you work with Giru to send her something. Just a little thing, a warning, that what she’s doing is wrong, and she needs to stop and get out of this now. Before it’s too late. You can only hope it will work. Regrouping with 19, and her having found Salsa and given a head’s up that she’s being targeted by suspicious individuals, you have to figure out your next step to take. And… you feel kinda disappointed. Like, maybe you were still hoping there was a misunderstanding there, that you were hearing things out of context, but… no. It’s a shame.

‘Momma Bird to Ghost Pepper, come in Ghost Pepper, over.’

Oh, mom! ‘Ghost Pepper here, Momma Bird. Read you loud and clear. Over.’

‘Complicated situation, Momma Bird. I’ll give you the rundown…’ You relay to Maple everything you’ve learned about this little conspiracy, from the bot messages to the plan to “expose” you, and the people you know are involved in it. You also get out of the area with 19 and Giru, to a less busy area, and rest on a rooftop. Now, even with all this said… ‘We do have enough people on this case already, though, so no need to drop what you’re doing and join in, Momma Bird. But… would you be willing to give some advice? Over.’

‘I would be willing, Ghost Pepper. Over.’

‘Momma Bird… I’ll be honest, I’m not as used to really dealing with people like this. Exceptionally petty and kinda terrible but just… normal people. I’ve been aware of them for a while and been able to keep them at a distance but this is a bit more severe than before. And I’m a bit more used to punching when things get like this, and I know that’s not really the solution here. What advice do you have, Momma Bird? Over.’

She takes a minute to think through the best response for this. ‘Eheh. Truthfully, I’ve rarely encountered folks that reached this level of petty, except for a certain someone…’

‘Towa? Over.’

‘Towa. Over.’

Yeeaaah you thought as much. The skunk lady’s always been a thorn in your mom’s side. ‘Even with her, though, you didn’t solve every encounter with punchin’. Over.’

‘I mean, I did slap her too.’ Maple chuckles. ‘But for other cases, I kinda needed to rely more on wits than strength. Intimidating them isn’t going to make much of a difference, but being able to out-think them? That can make a world of difference. Over.’

‘Okay. Okay. Thanks, Momma Bird! Ghost Pepper, over and out.’ Out-think them, use your wits.

19 looks to you and asks, “What is your next step, Peppa?”

“I’m gonna check in with Pantea and kinda regroup with her, but we need someone to watch over Salsa… 19, Giru, you up for that? You’ve already gotten in contact and sent a warning, sure, but might be better to actively try to watch out for any suspicious activity headed her way.” you reply.

“Very well. Best of luck with her then.” The two of you take off, with you locking onto Pantea’s Ki and teleporting back to her. You find her working on… at least three different projects at once. You spot robotics schematics, game design notes, and even what looks like a directory of some kind. She spins around when she senses you enter, and the two of you quickly catch up on what you’ve learned.

“Barry Kahn, Idasam, a shaman… hrmn. Yeah this is starting to come together better.” She rubs her chin contemplatively. “I’d expect a few more to be involved, though.”

“On the note of the ‘shaman,’ I’ve been thinking, maybe Yurin and her ninja group might have some countermeasure for whatever charms he’s got cooked up.” you comment. “At least, if it turns out to be legitimate. Even with all we’ve seen, doesn’t mean quacks suddenly stopped existing.”

“You’d need to find one of them first.” she points out. “But it might be worth checking, sure. And…” She snaps her fingers. “Shaman! Peppa, you remember back earlier in the year when we were in Natade Village?”

You nod. “Yeah. And there was-” Oh. Oh yeah. “You really think THAT guy is the ‘shaman’ they’re talking about?”

She spins around brings up the directory again. “Maloja was his name, but more importantly he showed up in some of my searches. He didn’t seem all that technically inclined, but he’d not have to be. And more importantly, look at this!” Pantea brings up a tabloid article on… Natade Village, and more importantly, one trying to throw doubt on that charity you set up. And who is one of the people giving the tabloid some quotes? Maloja. Pantea slaps her hands on her knees. “Peppa, what exactly were they trying to do again?”

“I mean, from the sound of it, they wanted to use a ‘magic charm’ to get me to show my ‘true colors,’ and-” Your eyes look back over to the screen. “…They’re going to all this effort for a tabloid article?”

“More than that. They’ve probably got something big set up to ‘expose’ you.” She leans back in her chair, finger tapping her chin. “Now… the real question is, where would this be?”

“We’re gonna stop it before it happens, so no matter where, we’ll be ready! We’re gonna stop this before they set it off!” you tell her with determination. Though… “That said I can think of a few places. Home, yeah they’d know where that is. And the Pepparazzi has been stalking my school already. But there’s also the studios… aha! Okay! I’ve got an idea now.” You cross your arms, tail swaying behind you. “Since Videl and I are gonna be at school anyway, she can help keep an eye over there. Mom, of course she can watch over home with Groucho. And… hrmn. Maybe dad would be able to help watch the studios. He’s not the most… stealthy among us, but he’s pretty attentive when things are off.”

“I mean, I’m in the area too, so I could probably help with that.” Pantea comments. “So let’s review. We know that they’re targeting you, and both the actress Salsa, in similar but separate events. Idasam, Barry Kahn, Maloja, and the ‘Pepparazzi’ are all in on this. They potentially have some kind of magic charm that can… reveal some secrets or something, basically they’re trying to dig up dirt on you so they can put it in the tabloids. And there are a few likely places where they’ll try to spring this trap, which you’ve got covered now. 19 and Giru are keeping watch over Salsa as well.”

You nod. “Sounds about right. Now, let’s see…” You tap your goggles. Almost 8 your time, wow you’ve been at this for a while. Though it’s not even noon here in West City. Timing might be key here. You know they’re planning to spring this trap within the next couple days, but you currently have the element of surprise. Could kinda stay up all night (for you, at least) to deal with this pronto, or you could wait until the next day to really get everything set up. Former might settle this sooner, latter might allow you time to get in contact with Yurin’s ninja just in case their “charm” is the real deal. Hmm…

You need to properly set this up, you think. Yes you have the element of surprise, but it’ll be better if you can coordinate things with everyone for an encounter tomorrow. But, since you’ll be waiting, you do have something you can do in the meantime. Before it starts getting too late, you look into contacting Yurin’s ninja, trying to see if they know of anything about talismans that can do what Maloja wants them to do.

And so here you are, walking through their forest, trying to make yourself noticeable by them for once. “Heeeeey! Anyone around? Promise I’m not still mad about… uh, before.” You’re really not. You’ve put that behind you. You’re pretty sure, at least. You just have to-

“Son Peppa.”

FROG. Frog ninja. That guy. Startled you a little. Man he really hid himself well! “Heeeey, what’s up? …How’d you hide yourself that well? Seriously, didn’t sense you, see you, hear you, smell you-”

“What are you doing here?” he asks directly, annoyed.

“Okay, so, hit upon a bit of a problem…” You explain your situation to him as he leads you to the ninja fortress, and get to the point of trying to figure out what to do if Maloja’s “magic charms” turn out to be the real deal.

“Hmm… Our Lady may have some idea on what this could be.” he comments. “Though it is worrying if someone came into possession of the method we know of.”

“What do you mean?”

He raises an eyebrow. “Tell me, Son Peppa, are you aware of any substance that can cloud one’s mind, bring out the worst impulses, perhaps even turn someone violent and bloodthirsty?”

…Oh. Oh. Oh crap. “The Black Water Mist…”

>A. Wait… are you also using it in talismans?
>B. Better have someone get some Ultra Divine Water just in case
>C. …Can you tell me how you hid so easily? Because that might be reeeeeally helpful

Yeah, I don't really think these guys have the right tone for people who almost destroyed the world because they think they could do better. He could be a bit more apologetic and accommodating.

Why not blow this guy's house down with a kamehameha unless he verbally shines our boots with his frog tongue? Then again, that might just make them sticky. Anyway, ninjas are mammals, so I'm annoyed enough with this paradox already, let's speak to Yurin.

You contact Trip and Piccolo telepathically, letting them know that the Black Water Mist might be involved in something happening down on Earth. You then look to the little frog ninja. “…So I gotta ask, how were you able to hide so easily? Because that reeeeaaally might be helpful.”

“Learning to not merely lower your Ki, but mask it completely, have it like you’re part of the environment you’re hiding in, allows one aspect of true stealth.” he responds, the doors opening for you both. “And learning to mask one’s appearance with Ki, to the point of one appearing to change form, is another of these aspects.”

“Is there a third?” There’s usually a third.

He nods. “True invisibility. Remaining unseen and unable to be seen, passing and moving without detection. Some have this ability naturally, but do not hone their Ki signatures well enough to have it be an aspect of true stealth.”

“So… think I could learn it?” you ask just a little cheekily.

“You would need months of dedicated learning to master completely masked energy.” he responds. “You may have learned how to lower your Ki, but you will need to learn how to completely match the energy around you.” Matching the energy around you… hmm. The fortress is silent as the two of you walk through, with the frog bringing you to the large tree in the center of it. The ninja frog enters first, kneeling. “Lady Yurin. Son Peppa is here to see you.”

Looking out a large window, standing with her hands behind her back, Yurin exhales. “So she is. I’ve been informed of why you’re here, Peppa.” She looks back, seeming… kinda sad and apologetic. “While I can assure you we are not in league with any of the people you are after, I… believe there may be some connection.”

You cross your arms. “Oh is there?”

And whatever cool demeanor she was trying to go for vanishes almost instantly as her arms go to her sides, shoulders slouching and a louder sigh escaping her lips. “…Bisa might have spilled the beans about a talisman I’ve been trying to develop.”

You pinch the ridge of your nose. Of course. “And where is he, now, exactly?”

“He is no longer a problem.” she assures you. “But he was aware of a technique I was attempting with the Black Water Mist. By carefully applying it to a specialized talisman, it was supposed to be used to keep those who have ill intent for the Earth at bay by drawing their more vicious and evil intents out of their bodies completely. The end result was supposed to drain that into the talisman… but every attempt thus far has resulted in failure. The most it’s really done is… amplify the effect of the mist.” She walks forward, shaking her head. “If Bisa was able to talk with that Shaman person at any point, he may have passed on how the talisman works. The problem is… well, we stopped experiments both because none were working, and we were potentially exhaust the supply of the mist that we could gather in the area. If someone was here collecting it, we would have knowAGH!” She… trips on one of the spherical divets in the floor and faceplants. “Owww…”

“Lady Yurin!” the frog ninja exclaims, hurrying over to her. “Are you all right.”

“Damage was purely to my pride.” she groans.

You hold back a chuckle as you help her up. “All right, even if you were experimenting with it, you’re bound to have a countermeasure, right? If so, can we have it, just to be on the safe side?” you ask. “And… just to be on the safe side, what if something else was applied to the talisman in order to counteract the Black Water Mist? Like, say, the Ultra Divine Water?”

She dusts herself off. “Well, it should be able to remove the Black Water Mist’s effects like normal, though only if you directly apply it to the talisman, rather than ingest it. Ingesting it will merely remove it temporarily, since you’re not getting rid of the source of it. And, while not quite the same as a complete countermeasure, we do have something that can prevent its application.” Yurin nods at the frog ninja, who dashes away to get something… and then you don’t even sense him.

“...Saaaay. Do you think you can help me out with a thing, then? I’ve been really curious about that stealth technique he’s been using,” you point your thumb at where the frog ninja went. “Can you help me learn a bit about it, so we can better spring this trap?”

“A little bold to assume you’d accomplish it so easily.” she replies with a suspicious glance. “…But, if you truly wish, we can help you learn it. We… do still owe you for what we’ve done before.”

“Hey, I’ve put that behind me, but if there’s anyone you should be apologizing to, it’s Cocoa and her family. You owe her that at least.” you reply, giving a serious but forgiving look to her.

“Eheh, that is fair.” she says with a kind smile.

“Anyway, wanna exchange anything for it? I’ve been learning some interesting things on Yardrat that might be useful for you all.” you ask, grinning.

“That sounds acceptable. Let us see what you can pick up.”

https://youtu.be/MajsancwimQ

It takes a bit of time to get through the basics of what they’re doing, but the ninja take to the Yardratian Spirit Control techniques quite well, and probably thanks to that, you’re far more in tune with managing your own Ki. It really is like learning how to have your Ki match the flow of energy around you. It’s not simply vanishing, but blending into one’s surroundings. You sit meditatively in an open area in the fortress as Yurin instructs you. Regulating the flow of Ki through your body almost like it’s as automatic as breathing, you are able to match it with the natural flow around you.

And finally, it’s like you’re part of the forest itself. Though, managing this so quickly also allows you to kinda better sense the energy going through it, and how unusual it all is. If you started to doze off at all, you’d swear this stuff might seep into your dreams. Might have to keep that in mind for later.

Yurin claps appreciatively. “Well done, Peppa. You’ve managed it in record time.”

“I will admit, I had underestimated you.” the frog ninja states, then hands you a… kind of paper braid? Huh? Oh there are little symbols etched into it. And… hey, you’re definitely picking up a bit of Magic in it. “This will be able to secure you from the worst effects of the talisman. While not a complete countermeasure, it will stall the effect long enough for you to dispose of the talisman as you wish.”

You hold it in your hand, nodding. “Okay. Thank you.”

With all of this done, you think you’re pretty ready for tomorrow… but there are a couple people you know you need to talk with first. Starting with Cocoa. It’s lunch time for her, so you’ll be able to catch her up to speed. You contact her and let her know all that’s happened.

‘So… they’ve really gone out of their way for all this.’ she comments in a reply text. ‘This is a heck of a grudge they have against you.’

‘I just want to make sure you’re both aware of this, and safe. They haven’t given any indication they’re after… you as well, at the very least. But still, better we don’t have a repeat of earlier this year.’

‘Heh, okay. Thanks, Peppa. I’ll keep an eye out. Good luck with your plan.’

You smile and look up at the sky. Okay. One down! But there’s someone else you gotta check with. Might be a lot of help if you can get him to work with you, though that is a biiiig if. Still, can’t hurt to try, right?

“And why, exactly, should I get involved in this?” he asks with a heavy-lidded stare, the two of you meeting at Pilaf’s castle.

“Because out of anyone here, you’re the least likely to end up under any sort of mind control spell or something. Don’t think that Watagash thing uncle Raditz is looking for is connected, but hey, might be something to keep an eye out with.” you repeat. “Come on, it’ll be a big help!”

His expression doesn’t change. “So you expect me to go through all this setup with all your little friends, wait around all day somewhere, on the off chance that I MIGHT be needed to prevent something. Am I understanding this correctly?”

“Ooh ooh can I help, dad?” Baozi asks Vegeta. “Peppa, come on, lemme help too!”

“I mean that’s up to your dad…” you respond in a quieter voice.

Vegeta doesn’t budge. “Peppa. I need a better reason than this.”

While bringing up Towa might be able to swing his opinion in your favor, and you do have your suspicions, he’d probably demand more concrete proof. So… “Vegeta, I’m not asking that you give up your whole day to this. Just, you know, be on standby if things really do get out of hand. In case we need it.”

“On standby?” he repeats, raising an eyebrow.

“In case this really does go wrong, and we need someone to step in. You’re the one I trust the most to hold me off if their plan does end up working. I don’t doubt mom or dad or uncle Raditz or anyone else in power and skill, but… they might hesitate. I know you won’t.” You give him a serious and focused look. “Can I count on you for that?”

Vegeta’s expression softens a bit. He’s quiet for a moment, but after thinking it over, he lets out a grumbling sigh. “Fine. I’ll hold you to this. But do not call for my help unless absolutely necessary.”

Baozi looks up excitedly. “Does that mean I can help?”

“It means you can stay with me, and come with if I’m needed.” Vegeta replies.

“I’ll say this, it’s definitely easier to maintain than other forms of Super Saiyan.” Vegeta responds. “I would go so far as to say it’s the natural, final evolution of the power of Super Saiyan.”

“Nice, nice. I’ll say that I’ve still got to work on my own path still, but I have seen that my end goal is entirely possible.”

He raises an eyebrow. “And that would be?”

“Well, Super Saiyan is just drawing out power that’s naturally within you, right? Just changing one’s body to better use that power. What I want to be able to do is utilize it all without transforming.” You grin. “And I’ve seen it’s possible. Gohan’s been able to do something like that, with some outward help. So, I know my goal isn’t a pipe dream.”

To your surprise, Vegeta seems… kinda proud to hear that. “An admirable goal. Let’s see if you can eventually pull it off.”

And with that, you finally are able to put the day behind you, heading back home and getting some rest. Gonna be a lot to go through tomorrow. Better be ready for it.

The next day goes by… relatively normally. You feel a bit of tension through the morning, but you also get some good new through the day. 19 and Giru keeping watch over Salsa has definitely gone over well, and apparently she’s quite the conversationalist, even getting 19 to open up a bit about herself. You and Videl though have been keeping watch, waiting for the first sign of something off to finally deal with this problem.

You and Videl finish a quick lunch on the school’s rooftop, looking around the area. Videl stands with her arms crossed, a serious look on her face. “…There’s one thing I’m still trying to figure out.”

“What’s that?”

She brings her thumb to her lips, contemplating things. “Where would they get the Black Water Mist from, for this talisman?”

…That is a good question.

“There are a few possibilities. There’s a chance that the Black Water Mist still lingers in some part of the Earth. Or… similarly, but more worryingly, remember when it spread across the Earth? When we were still little?”

She nods. “All too well, yeah.”

“Maybe, just maybe, someone found it back then and has been holding onto it ever since. And… of course, with that thought in mind, there’s a chance someone could be giving them the mist. COUGHTowaCOUGH.”

“Towa typically gloats about this kind of stuff.” she notes. “So by the time we find all the people responsible for this, she’ll probably pop up and be all smug about it.”

“...She has been kinda quiet as of late.” you note. “We are due for one of her schemes.” Well, here’s hoping you’re able to get through this without much collateral damage.

As the day goes by, you don’t really get any sign of the Pepparazzi in your area. Which… hasn’t really done much to ease you, but has at least allowed you to focus on classwork a bit better. Once the school day is over, though, you do get a couple surprising messages: first, dad was able to catch wind of someone suspicious heading into the studios, with a Ki signature that felt “off” to him. And even better, mom and Groucho were able to locate a suspicious person snooping around your home. To your surprise, they’re a pair you’d dealt with a couple times before. A big, muscular, hairy guy named Spopovich, and a tall but more slender pal of his, Yamu. Mom’s currently trying to get info out of them, while dad’s trying to… well, keep tabs on the suspicious person at the studios.

That said, dad’s not the most inconspicuous person out there, so he’s opted to not hang around the studios directly. Instead he’s… gone to Cocoa’s place, talking with her parents, apparently even giving Cocoa’s dad a “lift” to work in the most literal sense. At the very least they’re… getting along? Cocoa sent you a couple texts after she woke up saying that. Still, looks like maybe things will go by without much incident.

As you and Videl head off together, you spot Izzy meeting up with her group of henchfolk, apparently doing some more community service with them today.

>A. Should still scout out the area, just in case
>B. Say, Videl, you pick a tag partner yet for the Mifan Tournament?
>C. You should check with mom, she’s probably got something
>D. You’re free right now, scope out the studios with dad
>E. Something else?

Still not sensing anyone following you, at least no one suspicious. Still, you and Videl scout out the area, just to be sure. To make it look like you’re just taking this like normal, you attempt conversation with her, moving along casually. That said, you also get the charm Yurin gave you ready, just in case. “So Videl, tell me, you found any tag team partners yet? And how’s practice with your unlocked potential been? Got to see Gohan’s up close the other day.”

She smirks. “Oh, there are a few surprises in store for you, Peppa. Just you wait. And as for my tag partner… well, let’s just say I’ve found a surprising one. You might even know him.”

Him? Oh interesting. Dad’s teamed up with Tarble as far as you’re aware, so not him. But… hmm. Uncle Raditz? Uncle Acer? Mr. Yamcha? Tien? Lapis? Videl’s dad? …Vegeta? …N-Nappa? …Monty? “You’ve got me curious. But I’m betting you’re not gonna tell me just yet, are you?”

“I’ll only give you one more hint: he’s not anyone either of us are related to.” she states with a cheeky smile on her face. “And I’m yet to really show him what I’m capable of, but I’m sure he’ll get a kick out of it.”

As the two of you keep walking, you… still don’t sense anyone nearby. It’s weird. You were sure there’d be someone there today. What are you missing? Even Videl picks up on this, telepathically contacting you and commenting, ‘…Peppa, I don’t think they’re going to make their move here.’

‘What gives you that idea?’

‘Possibly because we’re still walking together. Maybe they’re waiting to truly ambush you? Or… maybe they’ve chickened out? After all, Maple did find a couple snooping around your home, right?’

>A. Let’s test this by splitting up. Just act natural, like we’re parting ways before we head home

‘Videl. I have an idea. We’ll split up, look like we’re heading home, but keep in touch. Telepathically ping every minute or so. If either of us go quiet, the other will rush over.’ You also show her the braided paper. ‘And hold this just in case.’

“Heh, don’t I already have a friendship bracelet?” she asks, to cover what you’re doing, taking it. ‘Understood. Keep in touch.’ She starts to walk away. “Later Peppa! Hope you and Keli end up a good challenge during the tournament!”

“And I hope you and your mystery partner will be too!” Okay, time to get to work. You and Videl head off in different directions, you checking a few places to try and act natural. Check out a shop here, stop at a cafe there, and try to act as natural as possible. All while keeping in touch with Videl. Neither of you really notice anything at first, but at least the two of you aren’t in any trouble. A good hour after you started this hunt, though, you finally get the first sense that something’s off.

https://youtu.be/GBAN6X6NUrk

Towards a more abandoned area of town, there’s an odd Ki signature you sense moving about. Not familiar, exactly, but definitely off. ‘Videl, think I’ve found something.’ It’s… giving you a sense of unease. Additionally, you notice something in the distance. Heading closer, it seems to be an article of clothing left hanging off a line. It… it looks like…

That’s a bra.

You pinch the ridge of your nose. Are they SERIOUSLY trying to bait you with that? Of all the stupid ideas why would-?

…Wait.

You get a closer look. That’s… that’s… oh. Oh that’s a bit more… worrying. It looks like one you… accidentally made during Cocoa’s school play. A chill travels down your spine.

‘Haven’t gotten anything here. Need me to head your way?’

There’s a gut reaction to want to contact Cocoa, but… that might be what they’re waiting for. Something weird is afoot. You focus and sense out, having your goggles on tight. You contact Videl, telling her, ‘Close in, but make it look natural. A plausible search pattern. I think I’ve got a lead.’ You notice that there’s a couple signals you’re picking up. You sense at least two people in the area, even if they’re well-hidden, but there’s another presence. It’s… not normal, yet there is something familiar about it. Towa? Might be… but that’s not all. There are a couple… machines in the area. They’re barely the size of flies, but your goggles are picking them up.

This isn’t Towa. But it is someone working with her, you’re sure of it. You get out your phone, acting like you’re going to text her, but then it lets out a strange sound, then displays some error messages. Having it connected to your goggles, you see that there’s a signal being sent to it. Damn! But you can sense the people around you closing in. The two normal folks you try to read the minds of.

‘Heh, hook, line, sinker. That Scarlet chick was right, dumb kid couldn’t resist this.’

…You know that person. He’s the one who’s been stalking the school.

‘I swear to whatever god is out there this better work or I am going to stab him in the junk with a pencil. We’re already on thin ice.’

That’s another you kinda recognize. But the other presence… you’re assuming it’s this “Scarlet” lady? Just then the little machines bolt at you. You finally notice that they’ve got Capsules attached to them. You send a blast of Wind Magic at them to push them back and try to form a barrier around yourself… but are just a little too slow to manage it completely.

And that’s when she appears behind you, letting off that same damn energy from before. The barrier held back some of it, but it still managed to weaken you. You stumble forward, managing to balance yourself just in time to turn around. With a growl you let out a sharp “You…!” Damn it, have to refocus. You’ve been going through too much Ki training to fall to this trap!

Artificial Human 21 stands before you, a strange black candy between her fingers that you can tell is filled with an awful negative energy. She pops it in her mouth, a loud crunching sound echoing through the area, a dark aura surrounding her… as she holds a talisman in her hand, infused with the dark energy. “Hi Peppa~! Stand still, please. I want to get the best data I can on you for this.”

With your barrier up, you start to dodge and weave around her. Gotta keep out of her reach, but might be able to trip her up a bit. Telepathically you let Vegeta know 21’s arrived, just in case. She goes for grab after grab, trying to get hold of you, grinning manically. “What’s wrong, Peppa, that take too much out of you already?” She fires off a blast of energy that you dodge, but turns out to not actually be aimed at you, creating some kind of bubbling, slick substance that you slip on, unbalancing you. Crap! She lets out a pulse of energy again, and while it doesn’t get through your barrier, it and the unbalancing allows her to sweep your legs. You fall on your back. “No witty comments? No backtalk?”

“Oh what, you want me to ask why the shitty excuse of a mother that 16 ended up with is after me? I expected something more clever from you…” You grab her by the arm that has the talisman and throw her away. “Some goth candy and a toy? Just drop the gimmicks and fight me.” You flip back up and take a defensive stance again, 21 landing as well.

“Oh you bratty little-!” she growls venomously… but gets knocked back with a sudden tail strike from you.

“Or maybe you can’t actually fight and are just relying on whatever borrowed strength Towa gave you. In which case, you’re not very smart, lady.”

“You’re not as weakened as you should be.” 21 notes, rubbing her cheek… licks her lips. “And looks like you’ve got a bit of a mouth on you now. That’s a change…” She then flicks her hand… and seems to multiply the talismans. Oh FUN.

“HRAH!” Videl leaps in and hits 21 in the back of the head, causing her to drop a few as she faceplants into the muck she made earlier. Videl flashes a V-sigh at you… and notices one of the talismans land on her leg. Her eyes widen as she gulps, but remembers that she still has the charm you gave her, holding it up.

“Whatever works.” you tell her smugly, but then telepathically ask Videl to play along, like the talisman is affecting her. “…Ah-oh. Videl, get it off, quick!”

That catches 21’s attention, causing her to stand right up and grin venomously. “Well well, jumping in with the heroics like that wasn’t the best move to take.” She wipes off the muck she’d fallen in and seems to coalesce it into a sphere held just above her palm.

The dark energy coming off the talisman seems to grow stronger, and Videl clutches her head, acting as if she’s in pain. “GAAAHHH!” she cries out, falling to her knees, punching the ground with her right fist hard enough to crack it, concealing the charm you’d given her.

“Let her go, it’s me you want!” you call out, taking a defensive posture.

She looks back, unimpressed by your demand. “How cliche. You say that, but you’re very clearly not going to just stand there and let me test out my little experiment with you.” 21 takes one of the talismans in her hand and slips it into the sphere of muck, turning it into a bubbling, almost boiling ball of miasma. “Then again, prior research shows you tend to be at your worst in situations like this. I wonder how long it will take before you slip up?!” She flings the sphere at you, which you manage to dodge, but still leaves you on the defensive.

Videl still acts like she’s trying to fight against the talisman, but looks up to make sure you’re okay. You… do get a worrying flashback to when you were fighting Basilea, the twin Majins, and Rildo, but it passes quickly. Making sure your barrier’s up, you call back to 21, exclaiming, “Save it! The only one who’s gonna slip up here is you! Oh wait, you already have, haven’t you?!” You feel an eerie jolt of energy release from her, and while your barrier holds, it takes a bit more effort to maintain. You’re… not sure you really did block all of it before. Crap.

21 smugly starts to walk closer. “You’re not the one holding the cards here, Peppa.” She waves the two remaining talismans at you. “Don’t try to act tough, I’ve seen the data. You try to act all kind and friendly, but deep down you don’t react well when you’re not in control.” She tilts her head up a bit, chuckling. “Being as mouthy as you are now is definitely new. But it’s just a matter of time, especially with her in peril.” She points a thumb back at Videl.

You build up energy around your left fist. “Videl’s stronger than you seem to believe.” Coordinate this. Got the perfect move to use with her.

“Oh it’s her strength I’m counting on. In fact, should take hold the moment I snap my fingers. How long will you keep your calm when she’s attacking you?” She holds up her hand. “Videl? Let’s test this out.” 21 snaps her fingers…

https://youtu.be/w9bDL1OIabc

“FALCON…”

And her eyes widen in surprise. You take this brief opening to leap up and launch at her yourself, right as Videl leaps forward. Flames around her fist and spiraling winds around yours, the two of you yell out together, “PUUUUUUNCH!”

21 is struck on both sides, a small explosion erupting through the area. You stand beside Videl as you see 21 was pushed back into a wall, leaving a massive crater in it. As the dust begins to clear, you see that her glasses have been busted up, and there’s… a strange pinkness to her face where the two of you struck her. Not a bruising mark, but… a shade that almost reminds you of Majin Buu’s flesh. She angrily pulls off her glasses and crushes them in her hand, as the pink color returns to the more pale peach.

“We came more prepared than you seem to think.” Videl tells her confidently. “Whatever game you’re playing, you’ve got one more chance to call it off. Because that was a warning shot, and you know it.”

21 tosses her glasses to the ground and pinches the ridge of her nose. “Such a pain. Passively gathering data about you, Peppa, hasn’t been giving the results I want. But looks like you’re a bit more slippery than I anticipated as well.” She forms a new pair of glasses and crosses her arms, looking you and Videl over. “No wonder Towa thinks you’re more trouble than you’re worth. …Well, that, and she finds you boring.”

You check to sense of Vegeta’s on his way… and looks like he is. Okay, gotta stall. And… oooh been a while since you did this. Mimicking Baby’s tone, you respond, “I’M boring? SHE’S boring! And you know what? YOU’RE boring!” Videl does a double-take as she hears you say this.

21 crosses her arms, unimpressed. “Annoying, too.”

Next trying to mimic Towa’s voice, you ask, “What ARE you trying to gain from this? Even if I weren’t aware of all this, I’d still find the attempt… sloppy.” As you do this, you start to lower your Ki a bit, passively. And… 21 raises an eyebrow, taking notice.”

“Oh little Peppa, you don’t get it, do you?” She shakes her head. “I’m here to help my project along.”

“Your ‘project’ of pestering her for months on end, try to set things in motion to ruin her reputation, get under her skin?” Videl adds.

She grins and holds her talismans up again. “My project is fairly simple. You all got a taste of it not too long ago. Problem is, passively waiting to see all you can do won’t give me enough to work with by the time it’s needed!” She waves free her hand forward and lets out a significantly greater amount of bubbling ooze, following it up with eye-beams aimed at you and Videl.

Videl deflects the attacks as you continue passively lowering your Ki, though you do it a bit too much, and as you attempt to hold off the liquid, you fail to do it quickly enough and have to jump out of the way, just barely avoiding her moving in trying to get you with the talisman. Well, you got two annoyances down, might as well go for three! You mimic her haughty, smug, annoying tone, saying, “Aww, and why are you working with these people, exactly? Towa not give you any pawns to play with?”

“Hah! Please, this is all your doing.” 21 responds, irritated you’re mocking her like that, but not giving in to her frustration. “I didn’t start this. I came in because it proved useful to me, and in turn gave them something to actually use against you. Because you act so, so high and mighty, like you’re some kind of superhero. But you’re not really as good as you want to believe you are, and they’re all set on proving it.” She launches at you, sufficiently convinced she’s weakened you to the point where she can tag you with the talisman.

She’s wrong. “Vegeta, incoming!” you yell out as you contact him telepathically. You bring your power skyrocketing back up, even transforming into Super Saiyan as you deliver a roundhouse kick to her, knocking 21 high into the sky. Riiiiight in the direction Vegeta’s headed.

Why are all these scientists recording data anyway? For what? Why do they all have to do that. Gero didn't sit on his hands to record data when he finished his creations, he didn't even use the Wave Machine. He was that confident in his androids' power to take over the world.

This Towa and Android 21 don't have his gall, they're always doing that annoying "Heheh, we shall see what you're capable of" then turtle in their labs trying to make something better. Can't they just go all out for once and either defeat us or be out of our hair forever?

You try to calm your mind, and while the pain courses through your body, you know that you can’t simply let this take control. You’ve trained too hard to let this happen! Remember your training on Yardrat! While your face still scrunches up, you bring your arms down from it, taking a stance like you’re trying to power up as you focus your Ki, controlling it as best you can. Your breathing’s still heavy and pained as you cry out a bit, dark thoughts trying to enter your mind. Gotta focus. 21 wants you to fail, fall victim to this. Damn her. Ooh when you get your hands on her you’ll-! RGH! Head feels like it’s trying to split open! Gotta… gotta…

No.

https://youtu.be/MWRYAG_a1DY

You will NOT let it go down like this. Energy pulses around you, but you keep the flow of it calmed as best you can, starting to float down slightly. It’s helped by what you learned training with Yurin, in that you let the Ki of your body better match the significantly calmer surrounding environment. You might not be able to do more than fight back against it, but that’s all you need to do. You’re doing what you can. Now you just need to put your faith in Videl that she’ll be able to remove it in time.

And suddenly it’s like there’s a flash of light. As if you had mud in your eyes and it just got washed out. You fall back a bit, but you’re caught in midair. Opening your eyes, your vision’s clouded a bit, but comes back into focus. Videl sighs in relief, having removed the talisman from your head and caught you before you started to drop to the ground. “That… was entirely too close.” she exhales.

The two of you reach the ground, and your legs wobble slightly, but you’re able to stand. Okay, head’s still taking everything in. You sense that Vegeta was still moving your way, but has slowed. 21… aren’t sensing her anywhere. But the two other people, seems they’re still there, if trying to get back. Goggles. Let’s see… nope, not picking 21 up on them either. Still a few small spy bots in the area, but they’re all a healthy distance from you and Videl.

>A. Check with dad, see if there’s anything going on down at the studios
>B. Vegeta, where’d 21 run off to? You okay?

“Videl, make sure mom gets that.” You place your fingers on your forehead and sigh out. “I’ve got this.” You lock on to the Ki signature of the pair, and…

They’re running through the area, trying to get more distance. One of them is angrier than the other, yelling out, “I SWEAR TO WHATEVER GOD IS UP THERE! I WILL USE A DAMN PENCIL TO-!” And you teleport in front of them. “GYAAAAH!”

The pair stumble over, yelling out in surprise, and trying to get back up to bolt away. You shake your head and grab hold of them. They are definitely the ones from before, you recognize them all the better now. You’re just… disappointed in them. It’s sad. You can’t even muster up the desire to be angry with them. “Just… stop, please.”

“You let us go right now you brat or I’ll have your face be the most hated one on the planet!” the other guy yells, trying to get free.

“You won’t.” you respond, slowly starting to bring them back to Videl, hovering a few meters above the ground as you move. “Please, please, just… stop.” They both go silent as they look back, glaring furiously at you. “I’ve got some questions now. I’d appreciate answers.”

“I ain’t answering anything without my lawyer present.” one responds to you, the one who was trying to get pictures when all this started.

The one who’s dealt with the glitter goats the most. “Not even some names?” He just glares again. “…Imma call you Totes McGoats then!” He lets out a string of angrish and grumbling insults at that, rage in his eyes. Hahahahaaaa yeah. …Nope still just disappointed in them. “And how about you?” you question the other.

“Give me a pencil first.” he requests, with Totes covering his… crotch. “Then maybe I’ll be in the mood to talk.”

“...I’ll, uh, think about that one.” You keep moving, though slowly, sensing mom teleport in. “How about this, then. Why go this far? What do you get out of this?”

“You… you make a mockery of my career, you turn me into a laughing stock, your very presence gives me nothing but bad luck, and you have the GALL to ask WHY?!” Totes responds. “You haven’t been able to piece it together yourself?! You have brought me nothing but pain you stupid brat! I finally get some mud on that stupid face of yours and FINALLY get some of my career back.”

Hey everyone. I am very sorry about this, but today has been outright trash. Between the calls I've had to make and the testing wife and I had to do earlier and the headache I've been nursing most of the day, things have not been going great. Wife says I was asleep for about 4 hours, and I still feel tired.

I still want to give y'all something for the night, so there is an update, but I probably won't be around for very long after I make these posts. Hopefully things will be a bit more normal starting tomorrow night. Thank you all for your patience.

“All right. You wanna lawyer up? Let’s lawyer up. I can think of some pretty substantial charges already. Libel, slander… oh, there’s theft too!”

Totes looks up at you in confusion. “…Theft? The hell are you talking about?”

“Using that bra as bait? Baaaad idea. Definitely jail time. Breaking and entering, stealing from a minor. Yep. Jail time.”

“It’s a copy.” the other guy tells you. “Just about the only incident with even the slightest bit of controversy that anyone could dig up. Scarlet got it for us.” He looks up and raises an eyebrow. “Why DID you toss a bra up into the air at a school play?”

You blush a little and narrow your eyes. “So not outright theft, just stalking. You know I hope the two of you realize you’ve STILL been going after a minor, and potentially endangering other minors in these actions. I might not be able to sue you two myself, but I’m sure I can get a few people to speak on my behalf. Unless there are some things you wanna say now that’ll help keep this from getting worse. I’d really appreciate hearing eeeeverything you two have gotten up to, might help to soften the fall when you two face the consequences for these actions.”

Totes struggles against your grip indignantly. “What, you gonna try and bribe us now? Get real, kid! Who the hell do you think you are?”

Eheheh. He probably didn’t intend that, but still made you smile a bit. “I’m saying that because there’s still more going on out there you’re involved in, and you’ve got a choice. You can keep quiet, go to jail, go to court, and have lawyers scrutinize every little detail that shows how long you’ve been planning this out and just how far gone you are… or you can show a shred of remorse and prevent things from getting worse. It’s up to you.”

Okay, first thing’s first! “Vegeta! Hey! What’s up? Where’d 21 go?”

“Since I’m assuming you’re the one who sent her my way, I kicked her back out of the city to try and make sure she’d fight me seriously. But I had severely overestimated her courage, as the coward had no intention of fighting me. Attempted to use one of those talismans to cover her escape.” He grumpily leaned against the side of a wall. “Wasn’t taking me seriously either. I don’t know where she ran off to, but I doubt she’s done just yet.”

Videl brings her hand to her chin, thinking. “…Which might mean she’s gone off to West City.”

“I’ll have Goku keep on high alert.” mom comments. “21 isn’t gonna slip away that easily.” Under her breath you can hear her grumble something about… Churai? …Oh yeah, that lady.

“...21?” Totes repeats. “You’re talking about Scarlet, right?”

“Artificial Human 21, the lady who introduced herself as ‘Scarlet’ to you two. Also the wife of notorious mad scientist of the Red Ribbon Army, Dr. Gero.” you explain as bluntly as possible. “While we’re on this, I’ve got another reality check for the two of you. That talisman she was trying to use on me? It wasn’t just going to make me grumpy and mean. It would’ve made me dangerous. ‘Ruining continents’ kinds of dangerous, as I’m sure you two are well aware if you’ve done any sort of real research. She was never really on your side, in fact she probably PLANNED for that. She probably thought it would be an easy way to get rid of direct witnesses.” After a pause, you add, “Or maybe she just felt it would be amusing. You really wanna cover for someone like that?”

That certainly stings more than anything else you’ve said prior. The other guy sighs softly. “What do you want?”

“Everything. And I do mean EVERYTHING. I’m in too sour a mood to play any more games here, and you know just how bad 21 really is now.”

The two look at one another, and finally, finally, start to give you some answers. Totes had initially thought you would be an easy story, famous new champion, kid with newfound wealth, and someone who (in his mind, carelessly) frequented social media. But his failures compounding and inability to dig up any real dirt on you only made him more of an Ahab. Soon enough he’d found others who’d been slighted in some way by you, to varying degrees, and those who could use his abilities to help them.

Idasam still had her grudge against Salsa, and famous actresses with checkered pasts were a cakewalk to Totes. Meanwhile, Barry Kahn apparently has held a grudge against you since before the Tournament, blaming your activity searching for ninja earlier in the year for some shoddy performances in the show he was in, and what’s more his missing a major chance at a new movie project. Maloja needs no real explanation, he was easy enough to find after Totes did some digging into places you were connected to; your charity started to help Natade and towns like it was all he needed to locate the shaman.

And then all came “Scarlet,” Artificial Human 21. Who was able to provide Maloja with the idea of boosting up the talismans with that… candy thing, that contained the Black Water Mist, and was able to give some very helpful details for everyone involved in this conspiracy. They just had to play along with her. Though there is one thing the two men aren’t 100% sure on; 21 had something else she was counting on, something she was keeping from everyone else.

So, now you know the full story. Mom’s ready to take the two away, but dad’s catching on to something eerie going down in West City. Not just at the studios, but present in a few places. Yamcha, Pantea, Launch, and even 16 are now all on the lookout there, but still no sign of 21.

>A. Going to West City, pronto! Who’s coming with?

You place your hands on your hops and look over the pair. “Thank you. I’ll admit I’m still kinda mad things got as far as they did, but this, this is a good step. I don’t… really want to press charges here, at the very least not add anything to what you two are still gonna face, but just… know that you don’t have to try and ruin my reputation to talk with me, okay? Like a normal person.”

Totes frowns and shakes his head. “Look kid, whatever happens to my career about this, I know it’s not gonna be the same, if it even exists. So might be hard to take up that offer. But… thanks.”

https://youtu.be/lFqjiCgnNXk

Mom teleports away with them, and you pace around a bit. “This is a real mystery. What exactly are you studying, ‘Scarlet’…?” Think… you remember talking with Gohan and Izzy about some kind of “evil candy,” Gohan met someone who was munching on them, and Izzy remembered his name… what was it? Ef… uu? …Fu! Yeah, Basilea mentioned him too!

Which means the candy that 21 was munching on was something Fu had! And if they had that thing as a way to infuse the talismans with the Black Water Mist, they might be using it as a way to lure out… You snap your fingers! That’s it!

Vegeta stands up straight. “Well? What are you going to do? I don’t have all day.”

“I need to check with uncle Raditz. I have a hunch.” Ohohoho, you see her game now…

And once you do get in contact with him… ‘No, no, we haven’t found Watagash yet.’

‘Then 21 is probably trying to lure it out. She was here just a bit ago trying to mind control me. And I suspect she’s trying to do the same over in West City. Dad’s over there, and so are the regulars of the city.’

‘...Damn it. Jaco and I will be there soon.’

Vegeta stands up straight. “Well, you certainly seem like you’ve solved all this. Going to share the rest of it with us, Peppa?”

“21 is in West City trying to lure out a parasitic alien criminal. That’s what she was planning on doing with me from the start. She’s most likely going to target weaker beings after what just happened with us just now, too…”

>A. Time to teleport over there! Who’s coming with?

“We… we need to coordinate this, search out 21’s movements better. Gonna head to Raditz and Jaco first, and then work with the people already in West City. That sound good?”

Videl nods. “Yeah. I’m with ya, Peppa.” She gives a smile and a thumb’s up.

“Let’s just get this over with.” Vegeta grumbles.

https://youtu.be/dUf26N_hCaY

They place their hands on your shoulders, and you teleport over to uncle Raditz, with him sitting on the outside of Jaco’s spaceship. From there you all start working with the people in West City, trying to appear like they’re all headed in random directions, completely lost, but in truth they were slowly making things more difficult for 21 and whoever she was going after to get out. With Goku staying near the studios (and ending up chatting with some of the stunt workers), Launch appearing to keep to her normal patrols as a cop, 16 doing his best to stay hidden as he scanned the area, and Yamcha and Pantea searching together. Got to find either 21 or Watagash before they find each other.

What they do end up finding are at first worrying but not too dangerous. Launch takes out a couple robbers that ended up with talismans on their heads, 16 prevents another from getting taken over, dad ends up allowed into the studios proper when one person is taken over, all looking to work in your favor. You keep tabs on everyone as you approach by air, slowing down a bit as you get to the city limits. She’s running out of opportunities, and you’re all closing in. Finally you get a lucky break! Pantea and Yamcha have found her!

…And she managed to tag Yamcha. CRAP! Crap crap crap!

Pantea however manages to get a lucky break, using the Clothes Beam to hide a tracer and landing it on 21 before she escapes. But… now she has to hold off her dad. Pantea contacts you, exclaiming, ‘It should be locked to your goggles! Don’t worry about me, just get her before she gets away!’

>A. She’s right. Everyone, follow me!
>B. Better have someone split off to help her out, just in case
>C. Could give us a chance to capture Watagash… Pantea, hold him off, we’ll be there soon!

You’ll need someone to head over there, just in case… hrmn. Glancing at Videl, you ask, “Videl, you up for helping her?”

She nods. “I’ll handle it. You guys focus on 21.”

“Tell us if you encounter Watagash!” Jaco demands.

She splits off from you all as you head into the city, searching for 21. Pantea’s tracker is thankfully working, but she’s definitely doing better to hide her presence now. You sense Videl make it to Pantea and Yamcha… but not quickly enough to stop him as he powers up, the city shaking as he starts to attack them.

https://youtu.be/B1ezhI9m4eQ

Vegeta scowls as you get closer to 21, hopping down with you and Raditz. They keep their Ki up, while you try to remain hidden, heading in as you start to corner her… and her Ki suddenly skyrockets before anyone gets too close, collapsing the building she was hiding in. Damn it! Just a fraction too slow! You and uncle Raditz help clear away any civilians as the structure implodes… and you even see Vegeta helping out. Well, that’s nice of him!

You also spot 21 flying off, giving chase… and find her body’s transformed completely. Where she looked like a normal human previously, albeit with a strange dress and wild hair, she has white hair, a long tail, poofy white pants, and her skin is now a pink bubblegum color, almost like… Majin Buu’s? You’re gaining on her, and she doesn’t quite seem aware you’re almost there. However, she’s definitely way, way stronger than before.

You continue trailing her, keeping your distance, and also keeping your Ki masked with the surrounding area. You also take a quick picture with your goggles and then send it to everyone else, making sure they know what she looks like now. Hmm… gonna need something to figure out what you’ll do when you finally catch up to her. She slows down a bit and lands on a building, forcing you to hide underneath it… wait… underneath! Okay, here it goes! While keeping your Ki hidden as best you can, you form a small Ki drill, then continue to follow her. 21 carefully scans the surrounding area, and… heads in the direction of the studios, keeping to the rooftops, though not really hiding her Ki.

Wait… you think you know what she’s doing now. She’s stopped hiding herself and is instead taking stops on these buildings to make a threat of repeating what she just did. Oh that cowardly…! …Focus, focus. Keep charging the drill, slowly but surely. She’s also releasing pulses of energy from her body… those damn waves again! But you’re keeping distance, so you’re not really feeling the effects of them too much. Finally she stops a few buildings away from the studios proper, standing on top of one of the mushroom skyscrapers and looking over the area. You can sense dad inside, while Vegeta and Raditz keep their distance from her.

And this gives you the opportunity you were waiting for! You leap down and use the Ki drill to tunnel underground, avoiding doing too much damage to the area as you try to get ahead of her. Okay, positioned to strike if needed! 21 still isn’t moving much, but maybe she’s just waiting for… oh, wait, something knocked her off the building! She’s about to hit the street! A loud thud echoes through the ground as she lands. Who did that?

“Thank you for keeping her located.” 16 tells you through your goggles. Aha! “That tracer stopped working the moment she transformed.”

21 powers up in anger. She’s definitely distracted. You’ve got your Ki drill and the element of surprise.

Sorry for the delay, things were a pain in my ass at work. Might be a little short tonight, but for now, we are back:

>>4727340
https://youtu.be/QTV2BXe3lkA

‘Videl, Pantea, you two okay over there?’ you ask the pair.

‘Well, we’re not in any danger, but Yamcha’s trying to get away. We should be able to hold him off, though.’

‘Got it. Okay, stay safe! I’ve got 21 right where I want her.’ You’re well hidden, and she’s distracted by 16. Tunneling ahead, you position yourself to attack, and get ready to power up. Okay, here it goes! Unleash it, all at once! “Giga…” Your aura sparks and shines as you drill upward. “SPIRAL…” Burst through! You explode out of the ground in front of 21 as she tries to get away. “BREEAAAAAKKKEEEERRR!”

You slam the attack right into 21, managing to pierce her defenses and drill right through her! …And yet you weren’t at all subtle about this attack. She sensed you coming, and while she couldn’t stop your attack, she had a way to get back at you for attempting it. You feel your strength slowly fade, and even after bringing a barrier up, that took a chunk out of your energy. You feel yourself panting and winded, leaning down and having to brace yourself on one knee. But, at least the attack connected! You look back and see her in two halves at the start of a ditch made by your drill.

(cont.)
>>
>>4728478
…Two halves that are piecing themselves back together. She growls in rage. “SON… PEPPA…” Her head spins around 180 degrees, hate in her red and black eyes. Her body twists unnaturally as she regenerates. “You… YOU…” Her left eye twitches uncontrollably… and then calms. “…You haven’t given me the data I wanted, but you’ve definitely given me something I can use.”

16 lands beside you and helps you up, then points a fist at her. “Give up. You are out of options.”

She stands once again, but her body’s… twitching, energy fluctuating and uneven. She looks down at her hand. “…This form still takes up too much power. At this rate I may no longer be able to keep its hunger in check.” Her attention focused on you and 16, she then smirks maliciously… completely unaware of someone sneaking up behind her. “Luckily I still have a spare remedy for it.” She then… gets one of those candies out from her pocket. “Well Peppa, and my dear boy, it has been fun, but-”

“Yoink!” Goku calls out, stealing the candy away from her. “Haha, sorry, but I don’t really appreciate what you’ve been putting my daughter through. So I’m gonna have to take this away.” he tells her as he dashes away. 21 can barely process what just happened, head tilting and rage bubbling even higher than before. Nice job, dad!

“DON’T HOLD IT WITH YOUR BARE HAND!” 16 exclaims. Oh. Right. EVIL candy.

“Eh?” Goku replies, then lets out a pained yell as his fist clenches around it reflexively, dark energy seeping out from the candy. “YEEAAAAGH!”

“HRRAAAAGH!” 21 screams, launching at Goku and… biting his hand, her behavior a good deal more crazed, and still letting off those waves.

“NO! BITING! MY! DAD!” you yell out, launching at her and bringing out the Power Pole, thwacking at her from a distance. Using a sudden burst of strength that she wasn’t expecting, you manage to pry her off, knocking her into a wall. Okay, okay, uh, uh, crap, do you call mom? Do you call mom? Think, think, think… yyyyyes. Yes contact mom contact mom CONTACT MOM. ‘Momma Bird Momma Bird Momma bird come in Momma Bird!’

‘Momma Bird here, Ghost Pepper. What’s the situation? Over.’

‘Dad’s in trouble and 21 was biting him! Hurry! Over!’ You use the Power Pole to keep her at bay, holding it with your tail, as you try to help 16 pry the candy out of his hand. But… first need to stop it from continuing to hurt him. Which… wait, OF COURSE! “Clothes Beam!” You form a thick glove around his hand, using PTO elastics to keep it durable as he clenches. And… that works! Kinda! It stops directly affecting him, at the very least. “16, now’s our chance!” The two of you pry open Goku’s hand and get him to fling the candy into the air. Whew!

“NEED… CONTROL… HUNGER… HUNGER!” 21’s arm tries to stretch out to grab it… only for the arm to get sliced off. She lets out an almost feral growl, her power surging again. Your attention is then drawn upward as you sense something condense around the candy, forming some kind of… enchanted, octagonal box that blocks off the power of the candy completely. Dad yells out in pain as he tries to keep what power that did get to him from spreading. You and 16 hold him still, you still pinning 21 to the wall with the Power Pole.

https://youtu.be/5Tn7SiC_Z4I

You’re so focused trying to stop everything that you almost completely miss the familiar, but different energy signature near you. At least, until she finally speaks up. “Mafuba.” 21 shrieks in terror, the Power Pole moving away just in time, as you turn around and see her flung down into a jar that seals shut. Then a flash of light fills the area, though thanks to your goggles you catch a brief glimpse of mom in… an unusual outfit. When the light fades, she’s back to normal, walking to the three of you. “Samma Vaca!” she declares, halting the flow of the dark energy through dad. Goku finally relaxes, and she places her hands on him to heal and expel it.

Goku falls back, exhaling deeply. “Hooooh… heh, so much for that plan. Kinda held onto it longer than I intended, eheh.” Maple flicks him on the nose, catching the falling container. “Ow.”

“I don’t mind the heroics, you definitely did stop her from recovering her energy, monkey boy, but you know better than that!” she grumbles at dad. “Shoulda’ blasted it with a Ki blast or something.”

Goku just laughs and rubs the back of his neck. “Eheheh…”

16 approaches the bottle with 21 inside it, picking it up. “I will not say I’m unhappy with how this turned out, but this almost feels too easy.”

“Too easy my butt.” Maple mumbles. “Still… all’s well that ends well?”

…And there’s a surge in energy. Oh come on! Now what?!

‘...Soooo we found Watagash.’ Videl informs you. ‘And so did Yamcha.’

You look in the direction of the energy and spot him flying up into the air, laughing maniacally. He looks… different. Almost like-

Oooooh Vegeta’s gonna be maaaaad…

You get healed up by mom as you see Videl and Pantea trail after Yamcha, Raditz and Vegeta turning and heading his way as well. Maple looks to him with her Scouter as she heals you, then asks aloud, “Jaco, please tell me this is… well, not ‘normal’ but at the very least something you’re familiar with.”

And Jaco answers, mom setting it on speaker for everyone to hear. “This would be the Second Heteromorphism stage of Watagash, though it rarely ever took this quickly for it to reach this point. This is definitely bad, but it’s not at its worst just yet. Might still be a chance to stop this before it reaches the third stage.”

“What happens with the third stage?” Maple asks next, all of you standing, at the ready.

“Well, depending on the amount of evil, negative, or malicious power lurking in there, it could get bad enough to ruin yet another world. He’ll grow more chaotic, more dangerous, more unhinged.”

“...Yamcha, though?” dad asks aloud. “He wouldn’t do that.”

“That’s why 21 had the talisman, to corrupt minds to lure it out.” you reply. “She was trying to infect me with it, and nearly succeeded.” You look at Yamcha again as he holds off attacks from Videl and Pantea. Egh. Very hairy.

Maple rubs the side of her head. “…Okay, Vegeta and Raditz say they’ve got a plan, but they and the girls look like they’ll be able to handle it. I’m gonna be on standby just in case a certain someone pops up to try and complete 21’s objective.”

You nod at mom and take a moment to ease yourself, then contact Vegeta and Raditz, telling them, ‘Good luck. We won’t get in your way, but we’re on standby if anyone pops up to try and cause more problems or tries to escape.’

Raditz looks back and gives you a thumb’s up, Vegeta just powering up and launching towards Yamcha. You, dad, and mom all get back to rest, 16 looking over 21’s container. “I am going to hold on to this myself. It is not that I do not trust leaving it with anyone else, but I would prefer having her with me if Gero shows up again.”

“Or Towa.” mom points out.

He nods and walks off, observing the battle against Yamcha from afar. As he goes, dad places his hands behind his head and asks mom, “So, Maple, you gonna tell us what that was about? That was definitely not your usual outfit. Why’d you change out of it too?”

She chuckles to herself. “Hehehehe. Well, let’s just say it was something I’ve been working on ever since I saw it was a viable option. You’ll see what it’s really capable of come the Mifan Tournament.”

“Ahh, okay! It’s a secret.” Goku nods. “So you’ve found a tag partner too?”

“You might say that.” she says with a cheeky grin.

“...Not exactly the best kept secret.” you comment. You’ve got a good idea what that actually was, though you’re wondering now if Izzy knows about it already.

https://youtu.be/U7vg4ZKFf54

Your attention draws upward as you see Vegeta and Yamcha… actually fighting pretty evenly. Vegeta’s only in Super Saiyan 2 at the moment, but still. Surprising. And his Ki keeps rising, allowing Yamcha a moment to gain the upper hand with a Wolf Fang Fist combo.

And so Vegeta decides to stop fooling around. “FINE! This mockery of my power has gone on long enough! You want the real deal? HERE!” He erupts with power as he transforms into his Primal Super Saiyan form, then charging a spiraling sphere of Ki in his hand. “TAKE THIS!” he yells out, slamming it into Yamcha. Which explodes and knocks him away. Pretty far, actually, as he clears the city limits.

“VEGETA!” Raditz yells out critically.

“What?! He’s taken care of!”

“And you knocked him too far for us to get the talisman off him!” Videl complains.

“If Watagash escapes I swear I am going to…!” Your uncle just yells in anger and bolts off, the group complaining as they fly.

You take a moment to think. It would be oh so satisfying to merely brush them off… but, you have an idea. “I think I know who they are already. Lead the way. I’ve got something I wanna say to them” you tell dad. The two of you walk into the studios, catching the attention of several people as you do. You also tap your goggles to check up on someone, making sure to sense her Ki. Finally you see the pair, being escorted away by security guards.

While Maloja simply glares in your direction, Barry Kahn stands up straighter, looking down his nose at you. “Tch. What, came here to gloat? To act all high and mighty? Go on, do it! I know deep down you’re glad you managed to protect your oh so perfect reputation.” He struggles against the guard holding him. “Just know that you’re still a dumb brat going through a phase that-”

You place your hands on your hips and interrupt with a sigh. Oh you’ve got something to say to them. And that is: “I forgive you.”

“...Youwah?” Barry mutters.

Turning on your heel, you start to walk off, waving to them. “Later.” You then take to the sky and start flying off. ‘You sure you’re okay, Cocoa?’

‘Yeah. Sudden showdown across the city before noon gave everyone a bit of a scare, but looks like things have settled down.’

That’s a relief. ‘No… creeps sneaking around your school that you can sense?’

‘No more than usual.’

You pout. ‘Cocoa…’

‘Joking, joking, promise! Heh heh. Heading back to class.’ she replies. After a moment she adds another text. ‘You up for talking around, say, lunch my time?’

https://youtu.be/zgIkkE5HlDE

A short while later, you meet her on the rooftop of her school, a couple of her school friends with her. After catching her up on what all has happened, you let out a soft yawn, resting against a wall. “Beh, sorry. Today’s had me go all over the place, chase down all sorts of jerks, and I think I’m…” Your stomach growls impolitely. “…Okay yeah I am a little hungry.”

She giggles, offering you a bite from her lunch. Ooooh, octopus hot dog. “Yeah, I bet.”

The blonde girl among Cocoa’s group of friends gasps softly, muttering under her breath, “Sharing lunches? They’re going steady.”

Cocoa forces a smile and turns back as you use telekinesis to have it dance towards your mouth. “Latte. You left the commentary on.” The blonde teasingly chuckles. “Anyway, figured you’d want some time to just relax, you know?”

You nod as you devour the octo-dog. “Honestly… even if everything goes crazy again, I think I need to learn how to take a break every once in a while. Other people can save the day.”

“Honestly from what Cocoa’s told us about you, I think you’re right.” the chill green fox boy adds. “Got a bit of a heroic streak to ya. Not a bad thing, but you’re what, only 13 years old?”

“14.” you correct. Technically 15 counting the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

He nods. “Point is, always good to let yourself relax after a tough day. Teen hero or not.”

Cocoa shares another octo-dog. “Hakka’s right. Just relax for the time being. You’ve been through a lot.”

“So you are absolutely sure there’s been no one pestering you through all this? No… stalking, eerie feelings, nothing like that?” you question. “I know you’ve been keeping up with your Ki sensing training, so…”

“Did get an ominous text right in the middle of class, but other than that, nah.” she responds.

“She says, nonchalantly, pretending it didn’t worry her in the slightest.” Latte adds, giving Cocoa a side-eyed glance.

“Laaaaatteeeee.” your girlfriend grumbles.

“No, no, she’s got a point.” the quieter black-haired boy with glasses adds. “You got so worried you almost got your phone taken away.”

Oh now you’re curious. “What message was that?”

Pouting, Cocoa opens up her phone, showing you it. Let’s see… “Son Peppa is not the perfect girl she appears to be. Soon you’ll see her true colors.” you read aloud. Ah… sending her a “warning” as you were about to be “exposed.” You sigh and shake your head. Though… this does make you kinda wonder… “Cocoa… were you… worried about all this? A lot happened in a pretty short amount of time, even if this has been kinda in the background for a while now. And… well, things could’ve gone south really quickly if we weren’t as prepared as we were.”

She looks down at her phone for a bit, then softly smiles. “…In general? Maybe a bit. About this?” She holds it up again. “Not for the reasons they probably intended. But… I knew you’d make it out okay somehow.”

>>
>>4733816
Well, that’s a relief. “Okay. Still… if you ever feel like you need to talk with someone about that kind of thing, beyond those you’re familiar with, I have a pretty good therapist recommendation.”

Her friends all give you curious and slightly surprised looks, save the green fox boy, who just nods understandingly. “Hey, if you’re off trying to save the world every few months from crazy alien invaders or giant monsters or whatever, talking things out rather than repressing them is good. Read enough comics about heroes going crazy to know that’s one way to prevent it.” He then pauses, looking up ponderously, before asking, “…You’re not allergic to any weird glowing space rocks, are you?”

You giggle-snort. “None that I’m aware of.”

He nods. “Then yeah. Therapy. Good idea. Productive”

You rub the back of your neck and smile bashfully. “Well… it really has been, to be honest. But, anyway, just saying that’s an option. Also, sorry Barry Kahn turned out to be such a butt and a half, but… eh. Over it, really. Forgave him and everything.” After she shares one last octo-dog, you add, “Didn’t have anything for ‘em to sign at the time, but I can probably get you an autographed thing when he’s out. He owes me that much at least.”

Cocoa laughs. “Hah! You know, I think I’m over that too. I don’t take kindly to guys like him trying to run some conspiratorial smear campaign towards my girlfriend.” She taps her lips for a second. “…Maybe if he puts a big apology letter with his autograph, I’ll accept that.”

Giggling, you nod. “Sure. We’ll work on that.” You stretch a bit. “Mmmh. Too wound up to feel tired. You all wanna do anything after your school’s over? Places you wanna go?” you ask Cocoa and her friends. “My treat!”

“Arcade sounds great! I’ll be there!” you tell them all with a bright smile. And with that, the bell rings, and they all start getting ready to head back to class. But, before they do, you poke Cocoa with your tail. “Say… maybe some time later, I’ve got a place I’d kinda like to visit with you.”

“Another date idea?” she asks with a sly smirk.

“Well… kinda? Not the same as the ones before. Natade Village, I’ve told you about it, right?” you ask, and she nods. “Cool, cool! So… was kinda hoping we could do a few things there. Like…” You poke your fingers together sheepishly. “…Maybe putting on a play?”

Cocoa’s face lights up, nodding and shaking your hands. “Oh that sounds wonderful! Sure! Just get a time and date set and I’ll be there.”

“It’s a date!”

And with that, you head off, making sure to meet them at the arcades later. You also check with everyone else, and looks like everything went off without a hitch. Yamcha was saved and is currently resting up, Launch and Akai took the criminals from the studio into custody, uncle Raditz and Jaco secured Watagash, and even Vegeta is glad he got to show off how strong he is again. Mom and dad even stopped by Cocoa’s place just a while ago, talking with her parents for a bit. 16’s still holding on to 21’s container, and it seems 19 and Giru actually had a decent time playing bodyguards to that Salsa lady. Looks like everything’s finally settled down.

You spend some time with Pantea and Videl as well, taking some time to relax before heading to the arcades, which reminds Pantea that she and her mom are doing some new testing of the game they’ve been developing. She welcomes you to help with testing some more, if you ever get the chance. Aaaand you just might! But that’s for later. You make it to the arcades… and decide to get a little extra something for Cocoa and her friends, managing to get one of those token dispensers for yourself for them.

This is gonna be fun!

Cocoa and her friends arrive together, walking over to you. You use the belt dispenser to get a few tokens for them all and hand them out. “Here ya go, my treat.”

“Woo! Thanks, Peppa!” the brown-haired boy cheers, running off to a fighting game cabinet with the fox boy, while the bespectacled boy spots a robot simulator and gravitates towards that.

You, Cocoa, and Latte meanwhile stick together, Cocoa looking to you and smiling. “Anything you wanna try out, Peppa?”

Hmm… let’s see. There are a few fighting game cabinets still open, some beat ‘em ups, couple first person shooters, a number of racing games still open, some cardgame arcade cabinets, mech simulators, top-down shooters, a rock band one, even a dance game, among a few others like some sport games. Hmm… what to do, what to do…

>A. Fighting games are your specialty! Gonna give that a go
>B. Beat ‘em ups! Cocoa, come on! Let’s try some together!
>C. Check out the FPS cabinets
>D. Driving games might be a good change of pace, try that out
>E. Arcade Cardgames, eh? Might as well give that a try
>F. The mech sim should be lots of fun, give that a spin
>G. Gotta go with the classic top-down shooters
>H. Heeey, Gohan’s been learning to rock, why don’t you give that a try with one of the cabinets?
>I. I know what we’re gonna do. Cocoa, let’s dance!
>J. Sports games sound right up your alley, give that a go!
>K. Kinda want to sit back and relax a bit. You guys have fun, think I’ll actually draw for now. But feel free to ask for more tokens
>L. Something else?

Pick one, please.

You give your girlfriend a big, bright smile and tell her, “I know what we’re gonna do! Let’s dance!” The two of you head over to the dance machines, and you put in a couple tokens and get started. And while you do kinda start things off a bit easy, you get into a great groove with Cocoa, the two of you dancing well together. But once the song’s over, you bow out and let Latte have a turn, handing them both a few more tokens, then finding a place to sit and getting out your sketchpad.

Observing as Cocoa moves, you make an initially rough sketch of a few poses, then make a more complete one of her in the groove, catching the joyful energy in her movements. In spite of the high amounts of energy in the air, you feel… honestly a good deal more relaxed than you have been most of the day. With the songs over, Cocoa and Latte hop off and head back to you, with you showing off your drawing.

“Oh wow! You didn’t tell me she was this good.” Latte comments to Cocoa.

“Preeeetty sure I did.” she responds. “But… you know, I think this really is one of your best ones yet, Peppa.” she tells you proudly.

“...Not just saying that because you’re the subject, are you?” the blonde girl playfully accuses.

Cocoa pouts and grumbles out a “Hey!” in response, causing you to giggle. She rolls her eyes and turns back to you. “Up for anything else? Or maybe some snacks, check the gift shop?”

>A. Try another arcade game! (Which?)

“Oh food! Food is good, food yes.” Yes. Yes food. “Think I’ll stick with something small for now. Like maybe nachos or candy-” …Candy. Caaaaandy. Evil candy. 21 had that evil candy. Think… think…

>“Eh, just a bit of aquma, some applicators, aaaaand a nice little bit of freshly harvested soul from the depths of Hell. One of the nastiest ones, that still have some evil in there. …What? You wanna lure out a Demon God you don’t use a bar of chocolate, dumb dumb! DUMB DUMB! Nyah!”

…Evil. Candy.

“...Peppa? You okay there?” Cocoa questions, snapping you out of it. “Staring into space kinda strangely.”

“Yeah, yeah, just remembered something, but I’m good. Anyway! Candy! And after that, check the gift shop?” you ask the two girls. Surprised they even have one of those, but hey, cool that they do.

You get a few things of candy for you all, and then check out some of the stuff in the gift shop (after handing the boys some more tokens). Cocoa just gets some chocolates, while Latte goes for some toffee. You though find something interesting: spicy surprise gummy candies, with some interesting flavors. Cinnamon Catastrophe, Lemon-Lime Laser, Habanerorange, and a striped blue and red one labeled “Hellfire.” That sounds like a challenge! Inside the gift shop, you see a few animatronics on display, but… you also notice something odd.

There’s a bug-sized robot that your goggles pick up on, trying to appear like a normal insect, but clearly out of place. Huh.

You look at the little bot and tilt your head, taking a quick picture of it, sending it to Pantea and telepathically contacting her. ‘Heeeey. I think these things were with 21 earlier. You have any idea what they are? …Should I do anything about them if they’re spying on us?’

‘Huh, let’s see… well what do we have here? This does seem a bit suspicious. If it keeps following you around or tries anything suspicious, try to take it down. Do try to keep it intact if you do, though. Might wanna study it.’

‘Gotcha! I’ll keep an eye on it.’ Okay, but first thing’s first, act natural. You, Cocoa, and Latte all check out some trinkets in the area, the blonde girl finding some cute mascot phone charms, Cocoa getting a couple cute plush toys, and you finding several dozen slap bracelets, one of just about every franchise featured on the cabinets here. All the while keeping track of the spy bot, but acting like you’re barely paying attention to it.

With that done, you head out with the other two girls and look over your spoils. Plenty of cool stuff there. You also finally decide to try your candy. Ooh, the Lemon-Lime Laser is really nice. Spicy yet sour. Latte… finds it little strange. “You sure that tastes okay? I thought they’d be more like those gimmicky every flavor jelly beans, with earwax and dirt and grass and…” She shudders. “Black Pepper flavor.”

“You still haven’t forgiven Java for that, huh?” Cocoa asks with a side-eyed glance.

“I have. But doesn’t mean I’ll ever forget biting into what tasted like sugar-coated ash.” She winces as she seems to remember the flavor.

“Honestly they’re really good. It’s spicy in a way that enhances the flavors.” you comment, trying the Cinnamon Catastrophe next. Ahh, good kick to it! It’s got a heat, but mixed perfectly with the spicy sensation. Out of the corner of your eye you notice the spy bot heading towards one of the animatronics. You take out two gummies this time, both of them the “Hellfire” ones. Gonna make this one a trick shot. Taking hold of one with your telekinesis, you fling them both up, but make the second fly off towards the spy robot. You chomp down on the gummy…

It’s. Minty? But spicy? Very spicy. …VERY minty. Ah. So this is why it’s called that. Your face feels like it kinda sweats as you look at the back of the package. Still chewing, of course. You’re not going to lose to a gummy! …Aha. So ghost pepper and peppermint. You manage to swallow it, exhaling and… just feeling your breath on your tongue is enough to restart the feeling aaaahhhhh why can’t they cancel each other out instead of performing some culinary fusion dance?

“...Y-you okay?” Latte hesitantly questions.

“I’m FiNe.” Your voice cracks slightly as you wait for the feeling to balance out. “WaNT oNe?” You offer the bag, and she scoots away nervously.

Cocoa pats you on the head and guides you to a water fountain. You notice that at the very least, you hit the target, and there is a sparking, beetle-sized bug bot on the floor covered with one of the Hellfire gummies. Cocoa and Latte spot it too, giving curious looks.

>A. All right, let Pantea know you dealt with it. She can come get it before it springs back to life and tries to take over one of the animatronics or something

Making a mental note to recall what it looked like while intact for later, you sigh and get a small container out. Better scoop that up and Capsule it away. Latte only grows more confused as Cocoa raises an eyebrow. “I’ll explain later, after I’m sure what this is about.”

“Of course.” she sighs, shaking her head.

You reach into the bag and get another Hellfire gummy out. You are over the initial shock. You can handle this. This is a CHALLENGE. Round two, start! …Haaaaa hooh, okay, still feeling it. But you can take this! You are tough! You will overcome this spicy, frigid, paradoxical sugar snack! You force yourself to finish chewing and swallow it. You stand proud.

Your whole face feels like it’s breathing. There’s sweat on your brow that you have to wipe away. You exhale and aaaahhhhh it’s like a thousand tiny needles on your tongue. Latte stands behind Cocoa, worried. “…I think it’s making her delirious.”

Dang it. You are not gonna lose to these things! You’re tougher than any candy! Just gonna take one more and- And Cocoa gently but firmly pulls the bag away from you. “That’s enough for now.”

Your head hangs low. “OkaY. N-neED… MilK. StraWBerrY mILk.” you ask almost pleadingly, voice cracking again. Cocoa laughs and walks you back to the food court, helping you get some milk. The concessions operator is surprised you managed a whole one of those, much less two, but obliges the request. Ahhhhhh. So, so much better. “Thank you.”

“You dork.” Cocoa says with a soft chuckle, taking one of the slap bracelets and looking over it. “You don’t have to try and act that tough, you know. Maybe take it easy with the torture candy.”

“Evil candy.” Latte mutters. “Eeeevil.”

“All this means is that I’m gonna have to try harder! Train up a tolerance! No evil candy will defeat me!” you declare cheekily. Cocoa then hits your tail with the slap bracelet, causing you to quietly yelp. “H-HEY!”

She deviously giggles, then kisses you on the cheek. “Thanks though, Peppa. Today’s been fun, and I’m glad things got settled as easily as they did.”

You nod. “Still got that movie this week. You ready for it?”

“Absolutely.”
