Last time, you found out your daughter was a magical girl, resisted brainwashing a truly astounding number of times, and proceeded to house a witch in your basement before diving headfirst into magic.

And also telling your daughter what for about her profanity!

"Watch your fu-" you start before realizing your hypocrisy, "Watch your language, young lady!"

But no, too late. She's already snickering.

M: "Very funny dad, but seriously, what was that?"

"I can do magic now Mary, wanna see?"

You're excited. MAGIC!

Just the tought of it had you giddy, feeling like a kid again, and now, actually beign able to do it practically had you cackling.

Internally of course. Internally.

Or, you would've been if you had listened to Teresa yelling "waiT NO!", instead of passing out upon trying to do it again.

>You learned a new spell!
>Break
>Break the target. The target must be some kind of mineral or metal, and you must know vaguely where it is.

>let it be known that I am re-working the XP system so the numbers don't get too huge. It'll come into effect later.

You wake up an indeterminate amount of time later, on the basement couch, as you haven't quite gotten around to replacing the upstairs one yet.

>Congratulations!
>You found out what happens when you totally exhaust your magical reserves!

M: "Are you okay dad?"

>Yes. You're fine. fine enough, at least. What's a little double vision to be worried about?
>No. You've got a splitting headache and if you were anyone else you'd think you had two daughters.

you can always give us narrative XP and let us learn a new power whenever its appropriate. that tends to be easier if you don't like to crunch numbers

Honestly, we can probably predict how close we are to levelling up and learning something new so don’t worry about it and just do it as you see fit.
>>
>>4692841
>>4693016
I mean like I re-read part of HMQ recently and decided that narrative XP and lower costs were the way to go. It's still gonna cost more for more broad things, but it's not gonna cost as much, you feel me?

M: "He's fine, Teresa!" she says, calling over her shoulder.

T: "aaaAAH I'm so so sorry I should've stopped you from doing that bec-"

"It's okay. You tried, after all," you grind out. "What was that, anyway?"

M: "Teresa said that you ran out of magic and tried to cast a spell so you passed out. I've never had an issue with running out of magic, but apparently I just work differently."

T: "I've told you, you're siphoning power from the ferret when you run out, that's why you don't have that problem."

M: "I've never seen him use any kind of magic, unless you count whatever it is that lets him float."

T: "I do."

>Just... relax for a bit. Bust out some popcorn and a movie, maybe, you're really tired.
>You still need to refurnish, go out and buy some stuff.
>You might not be able to actually do magic, but you can study theory.

You decide this time to go to the mall and buy furniture there instead, because you don't want to go through another fiasco like the last one and you know for a fact the mall has a furniture store or two.

When you get out of the car, you feel a niggling sense of offness at the back of your head, and it only gets stronger as you head toward your destination. It peaks when you pass by the food court, before it all just... fades away. Mostly. You recognize it now, it's what you felt whenever one of Mary's friends tried to pull one over on you using magic.

You look around for the culprit, but you don't see anyone. Well, of course you see some people, but no one who looks like they're doing it.

>Something doesn't sit right. Leave.
>Be on your guard. This is officially a mission to retreive the furniture and get out ASAP.

"Teresa, Mary, want to get something to eat?"

You, naturally, are given a resounding "Yes".

Something's off about this situation, and you don't know what for sure. So you're gonna sit here and wait until whatever's off slips back on, so to speak, or it drops entirely and the chaos starts.

Thankfully, the former happens. Eventually, as a few people start to leave, the pressure in the back of your head lessens and you start to calm down a bit.

>Follow them. Who knows what might happen, you don't want to feel responsible if some building explodes from a "Gas Leak", which is apparently your daughter's team's favorite excuse when a mission goes a bit too far south for Joan to fix on the spot.
>Not worth it. If some magician is a bit overconcerned with their privacy, you can't blame them. You practically have a bunker under your house, after all.

M: "Oh my god, Dad are you okay?"

You are actively trying not to scream right now. You've been stabbed and it's hurt less than this. Fuck.

You get up, notice that you have a nosebleed, and take a tissue to soak up some of the blood on your face.

You look for the group you saw leaving, but they're gone.

You get the furniture. Thankfully, they let you borrow a dolly to carry the new bed. And couch. And dresser. An- you get the point. You're refurnishing most of your house with the exception of the bathroom, that's a lot of furniture.

"Never put off 'till tomorrow what you can do today," is a wonderful piece of wisdom you try to live by, but you don't think it counts if what you're doing passes into tomorrow anyway.

You're going to bed.

You can throw rocks without magic you silly!

But yes, it will allow you to pick up and throw rocks, small pieces of metal or ceramic, and other earthen debris. Without touching it, that is.

Though, it's a more general purpose spell. You want some real velocity, you want to make your own, specific spell.

You decide that you want to get not just yourself, but your possessions ready for any more... incidents... like the one that happened a couple of days ago.

You decide that the best solution is to ready a go-bag, or at least group everything that you want in a similar area.

>What do you want in the go-bag? You have:
>Shelly the Shotgun. (Lots of power, not a lot of range.)
>Your trusty Iron Of Above Average Size. (One handed, very trusty as aforementioned.)
>A sword. (That you don't know how to use particularly well, but will probably be useful if you run out of ammo.)
>Your hunting rife. (Accurate and powerful, you also have a bayonet around here somewhere if you feel like getting dirty, good against armor.)
>A Bulletproof vest and helmet. (Takes time to put on and slows you down, but might just save your life.)
>A first aid kit. Well, you don't actually have one, but you can put it together pretty fast.
>Something else...(write in)

And as for the state of your house...

>What do you want to do? You might not particularly care about other people's opinions, but having a fortress for a house is a bit suspicious.
>That thing probably got in through the windows, so put some bars on there.

You decide that your bag is going to be light. After all, you've got to respond fast and nothing's slower than having to rifle through a bag for whatever you need.

Your trusty, a bit dusty, and thankfully not rusty revolver (that you should probably clean anyway). Even if it's not rusty, your skills with it are. You've shaken off some of the rust, but not all of it.

You've always preferred a revolver for a few reasons, one of them being that it's simultaneously more rugged and classier than a normal pistol. It also hits a lot harder, but what's that compared to style?

Your sword, on the other hand... You've never had any skills with it to rust, but it sits right in your hand. It's built sturdy, with a thick blade and a full knuckleguard, much like you'd see on a rapier.

Best to take it along anyway. It can't hurt, and the mental image of yourself with a sword is too hard to pass up.

And, the most important part, a First Aid kit. Sure, Mary's friends (one of them, at least) can heal people, but it's called FIRST Aid for a reason.

After you get your bag ready, you proceed to bother the girls by installing a security system throughout the entire house. Sure, you don't have an electrical license, but that's never stopped you now, has it? Sufficient caution and sufficiently thick gloves in tandem with a lot of electrical tape is good enough, especially when you combine it with the power of Youtube tutorials.

As the night drags on, and you wipe the sweat off of your brow...
