[Important Disclaimer: My valiant proofreader made me aware that I completely messed up the Quest’s calendar after the incident with T_T Neko. Basically, I ate 2 days. So, the first Judgment Day wasn’t on June 4th, but on June 6th, and so on. From this point onwards we’re fixing this error. Imagine all previous mentions of dates after June 1st as 2 days forward (i.e. the events of thread 100 take place on June 18th). But the days of the week still remain the same. Sorry.]

Last time you watched a terrible trial on TV, celebrated a successful mission with the rest of the gang and currently you’re at the Distant Frontier in a meeting with all the participants and judges in the game. Absolutely everyone is here that you know for certain has a flame, and they all look lame in their pajamas!

“Welcome back to the Distant Frontier!” A calm Giorsal welcomes everyone to the meeting. “Tonight, we’re going to discuss the new changes to this 2nd stage of our deadly game. We have greatly overhauled the rules, so please pay attention! I remind you; it doesn’t matter if you don’t know the rules, it only matters to us if you break them. After the explanation is done, we’ll have a round of questions to clarify any inquiries you might have.” She’s setting the mood.

You start hearing everyone talking amongst themselves after listening to Giorsal's introduction, you look around to see if there is anyone you can interact with as you wonder why this is the way you’re all arranged. Maybe they said it before but you don’t actually remember, but oh well, you’ll see what you can do.

Oh yeah, you’re next to your ex-wife Carol… That basically tells you’re not arranged by alphabet.

“Hey there, Carol.” Since everyone is making noise, you’re going to contribute by saying hi.

“SSSsshh! Don’t say my name. Distorted or not, these fools can hear you.” The scaredy-cat Carol gets all nervous. “A t-shirt and some sweatpants? Your pajamas lack style...” The idol makes a weird observation.

“Yeah, I’m so silly for prioritizing comfort over looks for my nightwear...” You retort.

“I was expecting better.” Carol is wearing something similar to yours and she’s the famous one. “So you’ve been sitting right next to me this whole time, huh?”

“Is that how it works?” You didn’t know, you can tell some people have been shuffled, but those lost their flames at one point.

“Depends, did you ask Giorsal that weird sexually charged question about the entities and their choosing of partners? Were you that creep all along?” Why does Carol remember that?

“No, it was someone else. Maybe that guy died, but it wasn’t me.” You lie.

From the stage, loud music is being blasted through the speakers that ends up drowning the conversations among all of you, then it goes down until it’s silent – letting Giorsal continue. Thankfully this is imagination land and your ears are fine.

“Please be quiet. Like I said, there is going to be time for questions!” Giorsal is a little frustrated by the conversation.

“How rude...” Carol didn’t like that.

“In our last meeting, we made clear the objective of the Judges is to ensure this war decides the fate of the entities’ world, leaving ours as intact and undamaged as possible. Yet, the paradigm at large has changed drastically after experiencing our first Solstice, it became clear that the precautions we took weren’t nearly enough to contain the collateral damage of this war and the new problems that arose, our scope too little to make a difference, and at large the situation has deteriorated. We failed in our task and we apologize to everyone.” Giorsal sounds disappointed. “With that in mind, we decided to be proactive and implemented a new set of rules and overseeing tools to make sure we have everything under control this time. With them, we expect to reduce the collateral damage and the number of casualties, and to maintain the quality of life the city and the world still has.”

Giorsal clears her throat and begins explaining the new rules:

>Secrecy is mandatory. It’s at the discretion of the judges what number of people one participant can reveal this information to, but if it’s done at large it breaks the rule completely.

>Harming civilians using their entities is prohibited. Sowing mass hysteria against civilians is prohibited.

>It’s at the Judge’s discretion, but if collateral damage happens to a civilian, it counts for the last rule.

>Entities cannot take full control of their hosts.

>Judges will sanction matches from now on. Battles can have rules depending on the Judge refereeing. The battlefield is designated by the Judge responsible for the match. Judges will procure that battles can only occur in designated places with the least number of civilians around possible.

>If any of these conditions aren’t met, the player and the entity are disqualified. Depending on which of the two (or both) broke the rule, that will be the one who receives the most severe punishment.

Giorsal shows the rules on the large screen behind her for everyone to have some time to soak them in. You remember that most of these are Scarlet’s suggestions, which makes this whole war lame now.

“Now, you all must be wondering how we are going to apply these rules. Let me show you this!” Giorsal makes the screen change to show some kind of flying mechanical device. It’s like a drone of sorts… Well, some of them, others look like birds, jellyfishes and wyverns...? It’s just stuff that can fly basically. “These are going to be our Flying Referees! They will be all over the city, day and night, vigilant to what’s happening! They’ll make sure you’re following all the rules. They are able to track Invoked Entity with ease. They have the capabilities to show us what’s happening and record it, we can use them to communicate with you as well.” Giorsal points at the base of the thing on screen, making nothing clear. “They can referee on their own if you decide to fight. Destroying one of these disqualifies you from the whole game, so treat them with respect, please!” Giorsal still shows them with glee. “There are 5 different models of these, one from each Judge, and they stick to designated areas by us, but don’t be surprised if you see them in other areas. Each model has its own set of automatic rules determined by their judge – but a judge can intervene anytime to insert their special rules every now and then. We’ll go one by one explaining what rules of our own Flying Referee.”

One of the shadow Judges steps forward, as expected, his voice sounds all distorted – but for some reason, you can feel an air of unrivaled incompetency coming from him:

“These beautiful yellow pigeons are my referees! Masters of the night, controllers of the sky and elegant! They’ll make sure all your duels are fair and square. They’ve been programmed to randomly select difficult challenges I crafted myself for the duelists to overcome! Expect anything!” The judge starts laughing. What’s fair about that…? Besides, those are not pigeons...

The Judge steps back, and another slowly walks forward…

“…Hehhh… Whoever… survives… wins…. Heehh.. Heh… HEHEHe… The least amount of you alive… the better…” The Judge walks away as slowly as he/she entered. The screen shows that he/she has red drones. You can feel the uneasiness in the atmosphere…

As the slow Judge walks away, Constance makes her way on the stage.

“M-Mine are these flying green knights!” Constance points at the screen, all nervously. There are little knights on cutesy wyverns! “Y-You cannot hurt each other… You’ll h-have to settle your differences… by talking! And… uh… I a-added some fun dueling games… i-if you can’t talk it out.” Constance runs away all embarrassed. Adorable. You clapped.

Now the last mysterious Judge makes their way onto the stage.
>>
>>4685912

“These jellyfishes are mine.” The last mysterious Judge points at their purple jellyfish on the screen. He/She has good taste in color in your opinion. “To win, you need to knock out your opponent, or make him unable to stand for 10 seconds.” Like a boxing match, huh?

And at last, Giorsal makes her way in.

“And uhm, these blue canaries are mine.” Giorsal points at the screen. “The way to win is to make the other surrender. Killing and severely hurting your opponent disqualifies you. Any questions?”

Do you have any questions?

>No.
>Yes. (Write In.)

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

Unlike last time where making questions was more orderly while still being chaotic, this instance is just chaotic – almost like everyone’s anxiety has risen up and nobody is getting a hold of themselves anymore. You didn’t shout, but you made your questions among the ruckus. Giorsal did her best to take into account the most repeated questions and began answering after asking for decorum…

“What area do these drones patrol? Great question!” Giorsal reads outloud from the screen. Since this is imagination/dream land she can pull this off. “Well, they patrol the whole city and its outskirts. Every place involving this deadly game. That includes the subway area underground. Assume all public spaces are being monitored. Despite that, we don’t want them spying on you, so they are not going to get inside buildings.”

“Next Question. What are the designated areas of these drones? How are these areas determined? These are good questions.” Giorsal reads the next couple of them. “We started asking ourselves what area each one of us should cover, thinking the area closest to our homes would be the best to waste as little energy as possible, but we decided against it in case someone figures it out. I hope I don’t have to remind you that trying to hurt us, Judges, is an immediate disqualification and has a severe punishment attached. Instead, we selected an area for each judge at random.” Giorsal presses a button and shows you the map. “As you can see, the city’s 5 districts function as the area for each Flying Referee. Again, I remind you that area has the largest number of those Flying Referees, but that doesn’t mean other types wouldn’t appear.”

You quickly realize Giorsal is lying through her teeth, your home district has Constance’s Referees, and if your memory doesn’t fail you, Giorsal’s referees are near her home…

“Next question… What about people who already know about the flames?” Giorsal takes a second to think about the answer. “We can’t erase people’s memories or anything like that, and if you keep this information private only to your immediate circle, I see no issue personally. There isn’t much we can do but to try to cover up the incidents that reveal the deadly game, which you’re all obligated to do from now, if you’re the cause of a massive number of people finding out – you’re going to be disqualified. We have to stop the public opinion from knowing any of this or we’re not going to be able to proceed with the game. So everyone, if you help police the others, the game will become easier for you as well, doesn’t it? In other words, we can only count the people from this point onwards with these rules, because we didn’t have a way to supervise it before. But be very careful not to spread the word to everyone.”

That means it’s fine if people like Scarlet know, or maybe that is the reason Giorsal doesn’t want to be very strict with this rule right now?

“The question that follows is… How much longer is this war going to last? A lot of lives have been destroyed in the name of this ‘game’.” Giorsal’s heart suddenly drops upon reading this, she takes a couple of seconds before talking again. “The game is supposed to last a year, we thought about ways to accelerate the process, but we found ourselves in a dichotomy… cutting it short could mean we don’t have to keep this madness going or could potentially shorten our lives by making the world end sooner. In the end, the victor is the one who decides everyone’s fate. I’m not sure if your entities have told you, but if the game doesn’t continue like they planned, the ones who are here are going to destroy our world anyway.”

Upon saying those words, the whole room went silent, like the severity of the situation dawned on some people who were taking it too lightly. Maybe it’s the anguished way Giorsal said it, but it made an effect. You’re going to take a wild guess and assume Philonune didn’t know that specifically, not that you didn’t see it coming one way or another.

“As the delegates of your flames and important actors in this war, I ask you, will you rather prolong the game as long as you can? Or make it go faster?” Giorsal out of nowhere makes a poll appear on the screen. A two-button controller appears in everyone’s hands, the two options in display. Prolong the game or End it fast. “Please, give it a thought for a minute.”

What a mood swing.

Guys it's been two and a half months or so in-story since the start of this quest, but it's been almost 5 years in real life since thread 1. Think of the QM and everything else. Do you want this quest to last too long and never end? Do you want something bad to happen to the QM because QM curse, and he cannot continue the quest? An unfinished story is a very painful thing for everybody involved. Please consider it more carefully.

There is a 10-minute timer on the screen for you to think about your vote, you have a pretty clear idea of what you want to vote for, so maybe you can spend it looking around…

“What are you voting for?” Carol asks you as the commotion starts again with everyone talking to each other.

“Huh… Prolonging the game. Though, I prefer to keep the original time table.” You admit.

“Hey, we agree on this. High five.” Carol extends her hand towards you, but you both fail miserably to high five each other thanks to an invisible barrier between you all. “Agh, my fingers… A-Aren’t we in dreamworld or something? Why does it hurt?”

“Pain can be psychological.” You shrug as you blow your voting fingers in pain.

“I’m having trouble believing you tonight, tousled hair.” Carol glares at you. “And why are you voting for it?”

“I can’t imagine making things go quicker would be any good for us. How about you?” You casually ask back.

“Nobody likes having their plans changed.” Carol has a simple reason as well. You both press the button after poorly justifying your answers.

With your vote casted, you start surveying the area to get accustomed to the layout and everyone’s position just in case. Like mentioned last time, you kept your seat, the big difference is the number of empty seats, you don’t think the judges thought about putting people to replace them.

There is some strange mind trip going on because you’re having a hard time deciphering the number of rows inside. You look at the far end of this theater of dreams and recognize in the final rows people like Flint, Nariko, Lise, Oliver, Billy, Nina and Aurora – with a couple of shadowy figures between them. It feels more crowded at the back. Near you while still behind, you see people like Neko, Linda, Richard, Carmella and the random fat guy who you don’t recall where you saw. Close to you, aside from Carol, are B-WORM and Amelia, they are at too awkward a distance between you all to talk to them. Close to you but by a decent margin towards the front you see the likes of Henry, Xavi and WILDFLAME. And almost right next to the stage, you see the guy who fought WILDFLAME, Dudley, Charlie, Vivienne and Ka-Shing, with the latter being in the front row.

“You seem to recognize a lot of people here.” Carol notices.

“How can you tell?” You ask with no ill intent.

“I work with crowds, it’s hard to explain but it’s the manner you moved your head while looking at them. You take more time to let it sink in.” Carol poorly explains.

“I was trying to count the rows, but they don’t add up for some reason.” You justify your weird behavior. Carol tries to count them as well, but looks frustrated after a second.

“They don’t want us to be cheeky and count them, huh?” Carol pouts. “I swear at one point we could see the number of players left, but I never cared to check that out.”

“I don’t remember that.” You shrug.

“You sound like you just started to take this seriously.” The idol is unimpressed.

“You sound like you never did.” You raise an eyebrow.

“Tch, I’m an incredible ally, what are you talking about?” Carol plays dumb.

The ruckus is cut off by the alarm sound of the timer stopping. You all turn to the stage to see Giorsal resuming the meeting.

“Woah, 48% of you want to prolong the game, and 45% wants to end it fast…” Giorsal is surprised by how split it is. 7% didn’t vote, cowards! “Thank you for your votes, this information is immensely valuable to us.” Giorsal bows to the crowd. “Now, let’s start a new row of questions, please stay quiet and just raise your hands this time!”

You raise yours ‘cause you have a question! Sadly, Giorsal seems to be going from bottom row upwards to pick the questions… She picks the terrorist who fought WILDFLAME.

“I wanna know if there is a way to appeal a decision of one of the Referees or Judges, in case the ruling is unfair or wrong to the others.” He makes an actual good question.

“Not at the moment, but it’s something we will revise.” Giorsal apologizes. That answer clearly didn’t leave the guy all too happy despite his enormous grin.

Giorsal points at the shadowy figure next to Vivienne.

“I would like to know what happens if a civilian tries to spread the word about the war. Do you have a way to stop them?” The shadowy figure wonders.

“Yes, we have protocols for that. Inform us through our Flying Referees or the app if you found anyone who is doing that, and if possible, please apprehend them yourself.” Giorsal asks cordially.

Giorsal now points at you, she remained professional but you can tell she hesitated for a second. Time to ask a serious question for once!

“What happens if the game ends in a tie?” You wonder.

“There are no possibilities that the game ends in a tie, there is going to be only one victor at the end of this. Thank you for asking.” Giorsal smiles.

Giorsal’s hand surveys behind and points at Linda.

“M-My stupid fiend took over my body, but I want to participate still, what is going to happen to me?!” Linda looks all nervous.

“I’m sorry, but your partner is going to be taken away.” Giorsal shakes her head.

“B-B-But I deserve some kind of compensation! At least a replacement!” Linda complains.

“There is no such a thing, but you’re free to form a bond with a new entity in the future.” Giorsal continues with the bad news. “We have a way to determine if the host gets taken over with our referees, so it’s pointless to hide it.”

“Tch… Y’know that I’m world famous, correct?” Linda shouts all indignant. “If you don’t want me to let the whole galaxy know about this, you must give me a new entity! Or at least do something about the one I have! Do you understand!?”

One of the shadowy judges stands up and gets right next to Giorsal.

“Huh, now you’re going to give me my an—!!” Linda starts holding her throat as she stops talking.

The mysterious Judge is pointing at Linda. The old lady acts like she’s being choked out, collapses and vanishes. Everyone stays silent until a brave soul asks what happened.

“She no longer is going to be a problem. Now, it is that easy for us to make you pay.” The shadowy judge says as Giorsal tries to calm everyone down.

“S-She’s dead, right? She’s totally dead. I know she’s dead.” Carol didn’t like the sight of that. They met each other, so she saw the full show.

“She’s in a coma now… I think.” You expect that to be the case, right? Right…?

After everyone calmed down, Giorsal pointed at a shadowy figure close to your friends at the back.

“Hey, Ms. Judge! To lift up the mood, I overheard these people talking, and I think it’s this one birthday today!” The shadowy figure points at Nina, who reacts in shock.

“N-No, it’s not…!” Nina tries to shout but it comes out as a whisper, good thing you can read lips (you can’t, you just assume she’s saying it by her expression).

“Can we sing her happy birthday?” The shadowy figure asks, all excited.

“I don’t see why not!” Constance jumps from her seat to accept the proposal for Giorsal instead. The cloud head smiles and shrugs, giving it permission as well.

“I don’t sing for free.” Carol rolls her eyes.

“C’mon, it’ll be fun. Do it for me.” You try to nudge her but the invisible wall blocks you. How uncomfortable.

“Are we really going to ignore that someone died right in front of us just now?” The well-known party pooper Richard wonders out loud before everyone gets ready to sing.

“Oh, that person isn’t dead. He or she is unconscious in the real world.” Giorsal calms Richard down so the fiesta can start.

“Then, what are we waiting for?” The shadowy figure who started all of this shouts. “1… 2… 3…!”

And so, most of the people here joined in a magical moment of fraternity between enemies to celebrate the birthday of one wonderful teacher. You tried your best to sing properly and you think that it works, but you can tell Carol is a bit better than you at this – barely if you’re honest. The singing as a whole sounds far more energetic than you expected, with Ka-Shing, WILDFLAME, one of the shadowy judges and Aurora being the most enthusiastic of all the people here. Some like Amelia, Lise and Neko looked confused and somewhat uncomfortable while singing.

But not everyone joined, with the likes of Richard, Vivienne, Carmella and the judge that got rid of Linda refusing to say a word – that mysterious judge must be Gordon Sr. if you puzzle things together. There are some other people who aren’t singing either, but you can’t recognize them for obvious reasons.

And for Nina, she absolutely doesn’t know what to do and is 100% embarrassed! She’s probably feeling a similar level of embarrassment that you would when a waiter sings you Happy Birthday at a restaurant but magnified by a hundred. It’s adorable! You wish you could take a picture of her! She got her new entity just for this, what nice timing she has! She’ll never forget this wonderful memory…

“Any word from our birthday person?” Constance asks Nina for some words. Nina is still frozen.

“I think she’s broken.” Aurora shakes her head. Nobody can touch Nina to make her react or anything.

“S-She’s too moved to say anything!” Lise tries to cover for Nina so we can move on.

“Awww!” Constance finds it adorable and starts clapping, everyone follows suit, even some of the people who didn’t sing.

“Your singing is awful!” Carol is laughing her ass off at you as you clap.

“S-Shut up…” You were doing your best…

“I’m glad we could put our differences aside and join together to celebrate this moment. I hope you don’t forget this feeling while competing against each other later.” Giorsal gives everyone some words. “The Judge Eyes App will be updated with the new information, rules and maps. Until next time, farewell.”

...

You have decided to go to school like any good student would, and that you’re going to take it easy today. A normal day in the sea of danger is always going to be good for your mental health.

“Hmm… Why do I have my glasses on?”

“I put them on you before you went to sleep for the meeting.” Philonune explains.

“Yeah, there is nothing I can’t do, partner.” Philonune is full of determination.

“But why? I can see no problem in the Distant Frontier.” You scratch the back of your head.

“You do…?” Philonune always thought you were blind over there?! “Apologies partner.”

“It’s the thought that counts.” You’ll be optimistic on this normal day. “I should go…”

You take your uniform from your little wardrobe, and go to the shower to get ready to go to school… You’ll wait for things to dawn on you before you go over what happened during the meeting! But exciting stuff is going to happen with the rules changed! And best of all, maybe things will calm down as well.

Do you want to go to School with someone else? If so, who?

You decide to text Nina happy birthday and add a heart emoji to add some flavor, because she deserves all the love she can get, which isn’t much, but it should be more! She immediately texts you back to tell you it’s not her birthday yet, it’s all a big misunderstanding and she apologizes profusely.

Nina really appreciates the thought, but wonders if you meant anything from the heart; you thought about explaining to her that you’re flirting, but instead you’ll leave it vague ‘cause she likes that kind of stuff. You text her to figure it out herself with a smirking emoji. Nina responds by sending a ton of hearts, but then reveals she isn’t sure so she’s going to ask you in person. Cute.

After that, Nina made you know today is the day she returns to school as well, back to her normal duties. She’s excited and nervous about the prospect of teaching again, and she’ll do her best. You tell her to give it all she’s got with a heart at the end of the message and decide to move on with your day. You give a glance to her final message that thanks you once again and tells you she’ll see you at school.

Even if today isn’t her birthday, you remember Nina saying it is close at one point in one of your conversations, so you should get ready to surprise your lovely teacher.

After your shower is done, you got to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, but Ruby got ahead of you and made breakfast for you two. She’s in an incredibly good mood, so you ask what gives – she tells you she had a wonderful dream last night, but she can’t tell you about it for some reason. Suspicious, you think. She had to go to work shortly after a little small talk, so it’s not like you had the chance to pry on that.

While eating Ruby’s breakfast, you prepared your own lunch for the day and packed a couple of more meals just in case. You have the feeling you’re going to use them… Oh, you almost forgot to leave a little portion of cat food for Bradford Jr., the little fat rascal is just sleeping on the couch, guarding your kingdom from the fiends of darkness… He wakes up late by the looks of it, like Nariko when she used to live here.

You leave your apartment with the determination to make the most out of this day just like you told yourself once you woke up, and to make it worthwhile you decided to not go alone to school this time. There are a couple of gals downstairs that might be interested in accompanying you. Luckily, as you were walking down there, Yu Yan and Nariko were on their way out as well. You warmly say hi to each other and three of you are walking together to the train station.

“Aren’t you happy we’re this in-sync, stud? Bright minds think alike.” Yu Yan says with her characteristically smug smirk on her face. She wanted to walk to school with you as well.

“I-I just thought Johnny didn’t want to be perturbed by us so many days in a row. He needs his space.” Nariko admits she wasn’t on board with the idea out of kindness.

“Have I ever said something like that?” Being used to being alone doesn’t mean you enjoy it, you think.

“She’s getting self-aware enough to realize how annoying she can get. Any progress is good for Nariko. I’m proud.” Future student council president Yu Yan nods to herself. “But everyone knows Johnny can’t get tired of me.”

“You overestimate everyone’s endurance, short one.” Nariko didn’t like that.

“My man here destroyed the whole cult in a weekend, while you get tired just thinking about it. I think my assessments are perfect, Nariko.” Yu Yan acts all smug. “But let’s move on, we shouldn’t ruin this beautiful morning arguing with each other again.”

“I agree… But I’ll remember this.” Nariko glares at Yu Yan. Your OG Hobo won’t show mercy later.

“So you two argue like this all the time?” You wonder what their dynamic is while you’re not around.

“Of course not! She gets all abusive only when you’re around!” Nariko dramatically reveals the truth.

“What? No. She’s the one who gets all hypercompetitive and clingy while you’re around.” Yu Yan’s name won’t be besmirched that easily.

“Dear Johnny, did I start anything today? I think not. The short one is projecting her insecurities onto me!” Nariko tries to get on your good side.

“I’ll give you that today, but...” Yu Yan doesn’t trust her roommate. “I can smell it, you’re scheming something.”

“Just be a little thoughtful instead of being mean to me.” Nariko gets right by your side, almost using you as her shield against Yu Yan. The shorter hobo glares at her tall counterpart.

You get inside the subway to board the train to school…

What do you do?

>“I have a surprise for you two, I made you lunch.” Gift the extra packages to them.
>“Nariko, you’re behaving so nicely right now, I’m proud.” Make Nariko happy.
>“Hey Yu Yan, did you hear from Ame and Nariko what happened at the meeting with Nina?” Bond with Yu Yan by telling her Nina’s humiliating story.

Inside the train, you get a hold of a couple of seats, something almost unthinkable before Judgment day happened, but now it’s a daily occurrence. Despite the city losing an enormous amount of its population, the large influx of trains continues – unbeknownst to the authorities, somehow, they managed to improve the quality of life in the city.

You remember your mother’s horror stories about people being packed like sardine cans inside the trains before, with the temperature raising by the dozens, with little to no air inside and everyone right next to each other – it never got close to as bad as that, but now you don’t even need to politely ask people to move out of the way. Except for those assholes who stand next to the exits… Damn them all.

You’re sitting in between both girls and you realize it’s the perfect opportunity to show them something:

“I have a surprise for you two, I made you lunch.” You open your bag and show them the two extra food boxes.

“Oh sweet! No matter how much money you have, cafeteria food tastes like crap.” Yu Yan is excited as well.

“Oh dear Johnny, you didn’t have to!” Nariko says while salivating.

“Are you eating that badly? Why are you eating cafeteria food?” You’re worried. Nariko is a decent cook, so you don’t know what the problem is.

“Blame Ame, she’s a picky eater and Nariko had enough and quit.” Yu Yan shrugs. “So yeah, we’re buying now.”

“If I hear the phrase It’s not beary good one more time, I think I’m going to scream.” Nariko sounds perturbed.

“Wait, Amelia is physically incapable of making puns, what happened?” This news is getting worse and worse.

“Is that even the point of the conversation, dude?” Yu Yan chuckles. “Maybe after all the studying she’s done she can come up with them.”

“But that pun was terrible.” You shake your head.

“That shows you how uncreative your sister is.” Yu Yan finds it funny.

“I would cook for only the two of us but Amelia hates being left out. So we’ve to buy our meals.” Nariko continues explaining. Yeah, you know that well, ever since you were little, anytime you wanted a present or something, they had to buy it twice and for Amelia – even if she didn’t want it and it ended up gathering dust in a corner. “Regardless of what I said earlier, we will gladly accept your meal and any you have planned for the future.”

“Nobody said anything about making more than this once.” Yu Yan shakes her head.

“A man as compassionate as Johnny would be keen on doing this for us for the rest of our lives.” Nariko exaggerates… a little.

“Let’s not take his kindness for granted, okay? Besides, having this every day will stop making it special.” Yu Yan responds.

“Either way, here you go.” You take both boxes out from the bag. Nariko is keen on receiving them, but Yu Yan grabs them instead.

“Wait, wait, wait.” Yu Yan has full control over the food boxes, to Nariko’s dismay. “These are for lunch, Nariko. I’m going to make sure of that.”

“Yu Yan, you’ve been awfully unfair to me today! I’m not a child. Hand me my food. I don’t want it inside your messy backpack.” Nariko complains.

“Jokes on you, it can’t be messy if it’s empty…! Please lend your stuff later.” Yu Yan says the last part very quickly.

“Hmph, I will do no such thing unless you treat me with respect.” Nariko crosses her arms.

“Nariko, I’m not stupid, this food is warm. And you say prime Johnny food tastes better recently done…” Yu Yan has unrivaled logic.

“Yu Yan, I just ate breakfast!” Nariko feels humiliated.

“Eating has never stopped you from eating more!” Yu Yan glares back.

“Here, Nariko.” You take your food box from your bag and hand it to Nariko. “I’ll believe in you, please don’t disappoint Yu.”

“I will not, Johnny! I’ll show you both how much I’ve improved from… a couple of days ago!” Nariko is determined not to eat.

“Stud, she has been eating cafeteria food for the last few days and there is no way that… you know what, maybe I’m being pretty negative about this issue. I’ll give Nariko a chance too.” Yu Yan relents after thinking about it. “Sorry, Mooriko, for being mean.”

“You just called me Mooriko.” Nariko looks angry and embarrassed.

“I’m doing it preemptively, prove me wrong, girl.” Yu Yan smirks.

“Speaking of being embarrassed, Yu Yan, did you hear from Ame and Nariko what happened at the meeting with Nina?” You know for sure Yu Yan would’ve loved to have been there.

“Of course, I did, stud! I’m glad you bring this up! Nariko is forced to tell me everything about flame shenanigans so I’m always informed.” Yu Yan smiles from ear to ear. “And it’s not even her birthday!”

“It’s not?” Nariko just realized it now?!

“No, it’s this Sunday, the 25th.” Yu Yan shakes her head in disappointment. “Man, I wish I saw it. But to be there I need a flame, and last time I had one I lost my memories and the flame turned in a giant skeleton monster that destroyed a good portion of the city and Ame’s favorite amusement park ride.”

“Amelia really resents that.” Nariko nods to herself.

“Anyway, we should tease Big Magumbos about it, she’s back at school today! Oh, I know, let’s make a fake surprise birthday party. Stud, you’ll trick her into a classroom where we will all be waiting. Let’s buy her a cake and all!” Yu Yan has a devilish look on her face. “But the cake says something lame like ‘welcome back to school’ or something so she doesn’t get mad. And even if she gets mad she’ll eat the cake anyway, y’know how she is.”

Yu Yan has concocted a decent prank…

How do you respond to Yu Yan’s suggestion?

>“Sure, I’ll help trick her.” Adjust your glasses.
>“I don’t know if it’s a good idea this close to her birthday.” Deny it for now, you’ll use your usual teasing tactics instead of an elaborate prank.
>“Why don’t we actually plan a real party instead for Sunday?” Bully Nina at her birthday party instead.

“Why don’t we actually plan a real party instead for Sunday?” You’ll tease Nina at her birthday party instead.

“That’s a wonderful idea, let's show Ms. Uccelli how much she means to us with a lovely party!” Nariko is attracted to your idea more.

“C’mon, it’s a harmless prank, we’ll never have this chance again…” Yu Yan was counting on you.

“Your pranks aren’t amusing Yu Yan, I haven’t forgiven you for putting hot sauce on my food and shrinking my clothes.” Nariko glares at the smug girl.

“Shrinking your what?” Yu Yan is genuinely confused.

“Yu, we can tease Nina as much as you want during her party, you know? She’s going to be the center of attention and won’t be able to get away.” You smirk at Yu Yan.

“I like the sound of that, big boy.” Yu Yan smirks back. “We were too unprepared to execute the prank perfectly anyway. You’ll get away for now, Big Magumbos…”

“I’ll make some arrangements! Leave this to me!” Nariko is excited. “I can’t wait! This is going to be the first party where we're all going to be together!” A bubbly Nariko is sounding like her OG self now.

“I guess we’re leaving the preparations to you. Call us if you need anything.” Yu Yan will rely on Nariko to make this work.

“Yeah, what she said.” You point at Yu Yan. Nariko nods and assures you will be needed at one point. You wonder what your OG hobo has in mind, and if there are going to be some party games for you to enjoy…

As it has all been decided, you arrived at your station near the school! Time to go to classes at last… You chatted quite a bit with this duo, mainly to steer Nariko to plan a normalish party and nothing outlandish. You split up with the girls inside the main hall and went to your classroom. Inside, you were greeted by a lot of people for the first time in your life, mainly the purples who were happy to see you, among them is Duncan. Obviously a certain redhead and her friends said hi as well, but you could only say hi back because your teacher has arrived, time to study…

Today you start with Math Classes for some reason, and even more odd, Mr. Conti is back at his job. If you’re wondering why the principal is teaching, he explains that a lot of the teachers are going to be on double duty because of an unexpected shortage of them, some just left Pokyo Lokyo after agreeing to work here upon seeing how dangerous things were really getting. Dirty Rob Conti promises he’ll find replacements, but for now, it’s time to crank the numbers…

Or at least you wanted them to be numbers, it’s algebra! Though, it feels awfully easy to understand now for you, if Mr. Conti was better at his job, you would find his class entertaining. You feel like you’re earning some knowledge… You feel like you’re smarter than before. You reached Lv. 4 Knowledge!

[Disclaimer: During the break my valiant proofreader realized I miscounted the amount of experience earned for Knowledge, it has been corrected, so you’re leveling up now. Congratulations! And my deepest apologies.]

“…I realized something.” Your eyes open wide as a revelation makes itself clear as you look at the ceiling. It’s bad timing to have an epiphany in classes, but life is funny sometimes.

“What is it, partner?” Philonune is eager to listen.

“I think Nurse Calamity was flirting with me this whole time.” You piece everything together.

“You sure? She doesn’t seem like the kind of human female that wishes to capture you. She has never professed her love for your cooking for example.” Philonune wonders.

“You’re right, what was I thinking?” You shake your head. Maybe you didn’t get any smarter after all.

Mr. Conti’s mediocre class continued until the break. As soon as the bell rings, someone grabs your attention rather violently.

“You, I need to talk to you.” It’s Gwendoline from the purple spikes! She doesn’t look one bit happy.

“Gwen, please do not bother my friend Johnny.” Duncan immediately jumps to your defense. He’s sitting right next to you, so he saw this coming.

“It doesn’t concern you, Duncan. Mind your own business.” Gwendoline aggressively dismisses Duncan.

“Oh cool, I wanted to talk to you too.” You casually respond.

“Y-you do…?” Gwendoline’s cheeks turn a tiny bit red upon hearing your words.

“I’ll leave you two be then.” Duncan chuckles as he realizes you’re not in danger.

“Follow me.” Gwendoline walks away from the classroom. You look around, a little dumbfounded by how fast the situation escalated. You stand up and trail behind her.

You’re outside, near the athletic fields, Gwendoline tried to guide you to the roof, but it was closed like all rooftops should be. You wonder if her old school was more lenient about safety measures. You’re in an area that is mostly empty near a tree…

“What’s your deal glasses? Who do you work for?” Gwendoline wants answers.

But you have no idea what she’s talking about.

How do you respond?

>“What are you talking about? You mean like one of those delinquent groups?” Act confused.
>“I thought you were going to confess. That makes things easier.” Pretend you misread the situation.

“I thought you were going to confess. That makes things easier.” You pretend you misread the situation to lift the tension.

“Co-co-confess?!” Gwendoline gets all flustered just saying it.

“Yeah, you’re a cute girl, you were nervous the whole time, and the two of us ended up alone under a tree… I’ve seen enough TV to know where this is going. It writes itself, y’know?” Even if it’s poorly and cliché. Nariko would’ve liked it though.

“Tch, stop playing dumb and answer me, asshole...” Gwendoline catches up with your teasing. “Just because you’re cute doesn’t mean you can say whatever the hell you want.”

“Huh? You don’t think you’re cute or something? I think you would look great in a sundress, personally.” You didn’t think Gwen would have self-esteem issues, but you’re here to help.

“A-A-And you would look great under my foot, but that’s not what I’m asking you!” Gwen looks frustrated and embarrassed in a funny way. “If you’re not going to talk, I will! I know you have connections with the Green Shield, so I know you’ve been lying to me this whole time. You managed to trick everyone but me! So now you start making things clearer or I’m going to put my cute knuckles to work.”

Gwen is getting all agitated by your teasing, but she really wants to take this seriously.

How do you respond?

“Connections? What are you talking about?” You want to start taking her more seriously, but you don’t know what’s going on.

“Heh! You didn’t expect me to know, did you? You only have to sweet talk a couple of people to get what you want.” Gwen sounds quite prideful about her intel gathering capabilities.

“I didn’t expect you to use your cutesy side to get info.” You scratch the back of your head.

“What?! What are you talking about?!”

“Do you know what sweet-talking means?”

“O-Of course I do. I wasn’t actually sweet talking them, if you know what I mean…” Gwen cracks her knuckles.

“Oh no, you went that far just for information? Are you out of your mind?!”

“W-Whatchu talkin’ about?!” Gwen gets all flustered.

“I mean, what else do you mean?!” You know this world is cruel, but to resort to that…?!

“….NO, I JUST BEAT THEM UP!” Gwen shouts.

“Their meats?” You raise an eyebrow.

“W-W-Wha…!? NO!” Gwen is getting really angry. “You know a guy named Henry, right?! He’s a Green Shield! You may have tricked the others into joining your fancy pansy peace treaty, but I know you lot are scheming something. You puny greens were never able to get ahead without some shit tricks.” Gwen barks angrily.

“Wait, you beat Henry’s meat?!” You can’t believe it. She sank lower than Neko.

“…I’m going to make you eat your teeth.” She has had enough.

“But how am I going to chew then?” You don’t get it.

“J-Just shut up!” Gwen shouts as she gives up on her knees, then she stands up again. “J-Just tell me the truth, god damn it, shit, fuck!” She sounds like she’s 12…

How do you respond?

“Sorry to disappoint, but as far as I know, the Green Shield died when the arcade exploded.” You say in an ominous manner so Gwendoline can take what you’re saying seriously.

You tell her what you know and some details about it so she knows you’re not making this up. Gwendoline not only calms down, but seems to believe every word you said now that you sound truly honest to her.

“…Honestly, I don’t think anyone cares enough to keep going with it after that.” You don’t even know if it had any other members left. But with Jamie and McKenzie gone, who would bother to do it?

“Do you really believe in keeping the peace and all that bullcrap, right?” Gwendoline changes topics, but you have the hunch it is not for no reason. “My gang just decided to stop caring with you guys being so nice to ‘em! But I’m not so sure.”

“Huh, I suppose? I was never involved in those dumb fights to begin with. I don’t understand why these groups exist in the first place.” You shrug. You know why, but you don’t get why. “I wanted to welcome you the other day, ‘cause I know how much it sucks to be in a weird place that nobody wants you in.”

“So you’re really just a nice dude, huh? Just dumb as a brick.” Gwendoline puts you in a good light. Though, she has no right to say that! You have level 4 knowledge and she’s the dumber of you two.

“Why are you asking? Why do you think I’m involved?”

“I don’t know if you aren’t paying attention but the Green Shield is still alive.” Gwen reveals. But you’re not sure if to trust her intel. “And the Henry guy I mentioned? He’s the one leading them now. Somebody told me you were acquaintances of some kind, so I just assumed you were involved in this too.”

“I know the guy, but I wasn’t aware of anything this dumb going on.” You shake your head. “Maybe this is all a misunderstanding.” You hope.

“You don’t deny it though?” Gwen notices you have given your word that nothing bad is happening. “Sorry, but I’m telling you, I know for a fact the Green Shield is up and working. Unlike the rest of my peers, I cannot lower my guard yet until I know this place is safe. I need to make sure those dumbasses from my school are going to be fine in this dump.”

“For someone so distrusting, why are you trusting me?” That sounded less redundant in your head.

“No reason.” Gwendoline looks away. “You were nice, I guess. Now you’re going to help me find these fuckers and settle this. You’re a man of peace, right? Show me.”

….You didn’t agree to any of this.

How do you respond?

>“I’ll call Henry, figure out what’s going on, and let you in the know. Is that good enough?” Propose to clarify but not to fight if it gets to that.
>“I really don’t want to get involved in delinquent fights…” Reject helping her out.

“Sure… Just to show you there is nothing like that going.” You’ll have to find Henry to confirm it though.

“Do you wanna bet?” Gwen seems confident but not pleased by the situation.

“That’s fine, it’s not a competition… Follow me.” You take the lead towards the school building, Gwendoline walks next to you.

Recess time is getting close to ending, yet you’re unable to find Henry in the first-year classroom. One of the kids reveals an important bit of information:

“Isn’t he in his 3rd year…?” A random ass kid tells you. You don’t know if you should be surprised by the fact you forgot how old Henry is or that he stood out so much to this random kid that he knows this information. You thought Gwendoline would be angry, but she actually laughed at this, not the cutesy type of laugh – but you’re not one to criticize that.

You find your way onto the floor where the 3rd-year classrooms are. Luckily, you hit the right spot and find Henry just wasting his life away near a window chatting with someone you don’t recall seeing before…

“Hey Henry, I was looking for you.” You grab the guy’s attention by being a little loud.

“Hey bo— I mean, John.” Henry almost forgot you’re not his boss anymore. Matter of fact, you were never his boss!

“My name is not John.” You’re Johnny, damn it. John just sounds… dirty.

“Pffft… Hahaha!” The guys standing next to Henry starts laughing. Gwendoline just shakes her head.

“What’s wrong anyway?” Henry sounds far more serious than usual.

“Quick question, are you leading the Green Shields now or whatever that is called?” You ask.

“Yeah, what about it?” Henry says defiantly.

“See, Gwendoline, nothing to worry about.” You smile at the delinquent girl.

“He just said yes.” Gwen is unimpressed.

“Oh yeah, he said yes… Why did you say yes?” You ask Henry once again.

“Because why wouldn’t I?” Henry raises an eyebrow.

“Maybe because they are a bunch of losers…” And they are dead too. You won’t say the last part out loud.

“So? It’s none of your business.” Henry just doesn’t give a shit.

“No need to be rude, man.” His friend isn’t enjoying this.

“Tell me, punk. Are you looking for a fight against us?” Gwen wants to make sure before declaring war.

“I have no intention of fightin’ the likes of you. The Green Shield that you know doesn't exist anymore.” Henry makes it clear.

“Do you expect me to believe that?” Gwendoline doesn’t buy it.

“That’s good, right?” You ask his friend since he’s more cooperative.

“Yeah, we don’t want any trouble.” His friend shrugs.

“Johnny, look at my face when I’m talking to you. You took matters into your own hands, and I respect that. So I expect you to do the same now that I’m also doing it on my own.” Henry gets real with you for a second.

“What are you talking about…?” You get confused by what he said.

Too bad the bell rang and now you need to go.

“I’ll see you later.” Henry walks away like he thinks he’s the shit.

“No ill feelings, guys.” His friend says as he trails behind.

You have no option but to back off for now, you start walking back to your classroom with Gwen.

“Be real with me. Is he a threat or not?” Gwendoline wants your honest opinion.

How do you respond to Gwendoline?

>“I’m not sure what he’s up to. But he’s not a bad guy, so please don’t worry and leave this to me.”

“I’ll be honest, I don’t know what’s going on.” You say from the bottom of your heart, it just doesn’t make sense to you.

“Yeah, you don’t look like you do. You don’t look like you have a clue about anything.” Gwendoline is kind of harsh. “Tch, friendly people like you are so oblivious. I should’ve never talked with you about this crap, you’re not even involved. I’ll handle this on my own.”

“You’re the first person I recall that has called me friendly.” You put your hand on your chin.

“I-I didn’t mean anything by it. Y-You’re so damn odd…” Gwendoline doesn’t like your personality.

“Either way, I’ll look into this a little more, so please don’t do anything rash.” You’ll see if you can talk with Henry’s friend, he seems fairly friendly and you might have a clue on who he is. You didn’t hear his name, so you are not going to assume anything.

You’re back at your classroom, you’re just in time, your teacher hasn’t arrived yet! You go back to your seat and get comfy on the uncomfy chair. Your classmate that sits by your side, Duncan, starts talking with you.

“So how did the confession go?” Duncan chuckles. You feel an ominous presence from the other side of the classroom, where a certain redhead is located…

“You thought so too?” You’re surprised Duncan said that! Yu Yan did say bright minds think alike. “She didn’t confess, she just asked me some other stuff.”

“It’s always a 50-50 with her when she wants to have a chat. In my case, I always get yelled at.” Duncan says.

“She confesses often?” You didn’t take her as much of a romantic person.

“Once or twice a month, but it hasn’t worked as far as I can tell.” Duncan reveals.

“Huh, I wonder why.” You think Gwendoline is cute enough.

“Y-You do…?” Duncan looks concerned since, unlike most people, he can tell that you’re honest.

Before some clarifications can get underway, your teacher arrives! I-It’s not a teacher, it’s the janitor! One that you’ve never seen before!

“Hello, kids. I’m your new literature teacher, Mr. O’Brien. I hope we get along.” The Janitor writes on the board.

“A-Aren’t you our school’s janitor…?” One of the purples, a girl with pigtails, asks the new teacher.

“Yeah, I got demoted…” Mr. O’Brien shrugs.

During the class, you glanced over the texts from both flame groups you know, both discussing the meeting. The one highlight for you is that Scarlet has no idea what’s going on and nobody has bothered to explain it to her yet.

You’re worried by the fact that Mr. O’Brien is a good teacher… You enjoyed the class, but you’re glad it’s over anyway. You were anxious to know what the deal is with Henry.

Luckily for you, you won’t need to find Henry’s friend because he actually came over to your classroom to talk to you specifically. He was standing right outside when you found him, so this is going well already. Like you presumed, he’s the friend from Henry’s backstory – George Adams. After introducing yourselves properly, he asked you if you could walk together instead of just standing there. You agreed.

“Thank you for being willing to have a chat with me.” You scratch the back of your head. You don’t know what Henry said about you, you assume it’s not great by the way Henry treated you earlier.

“Chill, my man. I could tell you wanted to talk.” George seems like a sharp guy, or at least pretends to be so. “I know about the flame stuff, so you don’t need to hold back with me.”

“Y-You do?” You’re a little surprised despite the fact you have done the same as Henry and told some people who shouldn’t know like Matilda and Scarlet. “Is this Green Shield stuff related to that?”

“Yuuup, it is his own spiritualist group. He’s planning on going solo like you did. He’s bringing the heat out of the kitchen.” George is all smiles, but he’s serious. Technically, Gwendoline shouldn’t worry, right?

“Why though?” You don’t get it.

“He got tired of being on the sidelines, seems like the teach on board didn’t use him for anything – and you didn’t give him a chance with the stuff you were doing. Some of us don’t like being benchwarmers.”

“But what if it’s comfy?” You wonder in jest.

“No bench is comfy enough for a star player.” George chuckles.

He seems to be a cooperative and relaxed guy, but it feels like some key parts of the story are missing.

What do you do?

>“Can you take me to Henry? I wanna talk with him directly.” You need to know what’s going on from the source.
>“Why are you telling me all of this?” What’s George’s deal in all of this?

“Why are you telling me all of this?” You wanna know what George's deal is.

“Because I need you to look out for Henry, even if I got his back, I’m not the best guy to stay out of trouble. And from what I heard, you already handed him his ass once. And it’s not easy for him to admit that kind of stuff.” George seems to count on you.

“Do you think he’s going to get into trouble that easily?” You feel a disaster brewing.

“It’s a given, isn’t it? Not even ‘cause it’s Henry, just the situation in general. He told me about those new rules, so I’m optimistic, but you never know. Better have some reliable aces in hand.” George believes in you a little too much. “You look unsure of yourself; do you think Henry wants to bite more than he can chew? You’re the big-time player, you tell me. I’ll listen to you. I only need to get my ass kicked once to know what my limits are.”

George wants your professional opinion about this debacle.

How do you respond?

>“I don’t want to sound like I don’t believe in Henry, but…” You don’t think Henry can go solo if the masked man incident tells you anything. This is really dangerous.
>“Honestly, I don’t want to look out for someone else who wishes to get in trouble. So I prefer if he just reconsidered.” You don’t have time to save the world and Henry.
>“He’ll have to step up big time, but I don’t see why he couldn’t. Just tell him not to be unnecessarily antagonistic with the others and I’m sure he’ll be fine.” Maybe this is Henry’s opportunity to show he’s competent enough to not get killed.

“I don’t want to sound like I don’t believe in Henry but…”

You explain to George your reasons as to why you don’t believe Henry can go solo, if anything his story tells you he shouldn’t at all. George reacts very well to your explanation, nodding his head every now and then, he seems to be a level headed guy or… he just doesn’t care all that much. Regardless, he took your words seriously.

“You think Henry is just brawn and no brain, huh?” George puts your point in simpler terms.

“If the game was as simple as to charge through and win, I think it would’ve been over ages ago.” And with Flint leading, probably. Either scenario doesn’t bode well for Henry anyway. “Henry can do work, but he needs someone to lead him.”

“Why not you?” George wants to know more about your reasoning.

“In simpler terms, I’m a stealth kind of guy and Henry is a front liner. I don’t think I can make good use of him.” In your humble opinion anyway. “He’s on the sidelines not because he can’t work, but because it isn’t his time.”

“Makes sense to me. I remember Jamie being the one coming up with dumb strategies, like he was a field tactician or something, everyone else wanted to bolt in and run chaos. No matter what we did, we lost anyway. So, I shouldn’t expect Henry to somehow become a master strategist and if we lose, we’re out.” George agrees with you.

“Yeah, I suppose so.” You remember Jamie’s only strategy at fighting games being to corner someone and kick down… Of course they only lost all the time.

“I’m going to try to talk him out of it. Unless we find someone who can be our coach guiding us to victory, we’re going to get ourselves killed. Maybe that’s what we should look for.” George is thinking it over.

“Ni— I mean, Ms. Uccelli is doing a good job, I don’t think splitting from her is necessary. She’s taking things slow, but maybe you two can propose to her to become like a fighting unit or something.” You throw him a bone of an idea.

“Heh, I don’t think he wants anything to do with her anymore. If I propose that he would try and fail to beat me.” George sounds like a confident guy. “I have a lot in my head, don’t know what I’m gonna do, aside from convincing him to think it over.”

“Is he that angry about it?” You think Henry is taking this too seriously.

“Yeeeah.” George laughs. “You blew up the cult on your own while he did nothing, of course he’s seething. You don’t get into fights like him if you aren’t a prideful fella. You don’t get to say to hell to everything if you don’t want freedom.” You wonder what freedom has to do with getting into dumb fights…
>>
>>4689837

“I’m glad we talked this through.” You feel somewhat relieved.

“Yeah, man. If anything you cleared the picture for me. I almost throw away my life a couple of times, and I’m starting to think I’m running out of luck.” George gives you a thumbs up. “We should hang out sometime, I wanna know the crazy shit you’ve been up to, the crazy legend that’s beating people up.”

“Maybe? It’s not that interesting.”

“Hey man, you just need to smile and say hell yeah.” George chuckles. “There are many places in this country I haven’t eaten in, so I have a place or two where we all can hang out.”

“Sure, why not?”

You hear the bell ringing again, time to go back to classes…

“Time’s up, our freedom time is over. Give me your number so I can tell you if shit goes south.” George asks. You two exchange numbers… “Thanks, man.”

“No problem, take care and help Henry out.” You give him a thumbs up and the two of you split to your own ways…

You’ll have to endure one more lesson before going for lunch, there is a lunchbox sideplot that needs to be resolved and that’s your objective once you’re free from the hands of learning. You don’t know what class is next…

A strict looking woman with a huge nose makes her way in, she looks like a joyless person… Just like all your teachers. It seems the Purples know who this woman is.

“For those who don’t know me, I’m Ms. Resendes and I’ll be teaching you Chemistry, and for those who do know me… I told you to stop eating during my class!” Ms. Resendes shouts.

“It’s not during if you just started!” Gwendoline shouts from the back, she’s one of the people eating.

“Very clever, Ms. Lecocq, but it doesn’t matter how good your grades are, you cannot misbehave in my class! Now stay outside and leave your lunchbox here.” Ms. Resendes isn’t a friendly person. “And you, the redhead, give me your phone!” Ms. Resendes demands of Scarlet. “And the blonde one at her right, you stop eating too!” She caught Sammi red-handed as well. “And Duncan, I don’t have to tell you either…” Duncan is eating too?! How did she notice?!

“Agh…” Gwendoline stands up and leaves begrudgingly.

“Huh?!” Scarlet hides her phone inside her shirt.

F-Fuckin’ Terry…” Sammi hides what she was eating. Why is Terry involved?

“………” Duncan refuses to move or acknowledge what Ms. Resendes said.

“And you! Stop eating Carrots! And You! Stop looking so shocked! And you! You’re so tall…” Ms. Resendes points to a Purple Rose girl, a random ass kid you recall seeing but don’t know the name of and you.

Wait. What’s wrong with being tall…? You’ll be quiet for now, but you won’t forget this… Either way, you learned that Ms. Resendes is severely disliked by all Purple students and no chemistry. Great. Good thing it’s time for lunch… Like everyone else, you all quickly escape the classroom to the cafeteria because fuck that class! You can’t believe Ms. Resendes made you all stay 10 extra minutes as punishment, who does she think you are? Middle schoolers?

With hell over, you reach the cafeteria, there you find Yu Yan and Nariko sharing a table – this place used to be packed, but nowadays you don’t even need to share tables anymore. They asked you to come over and eat with them. You oblige.

“Took your time there, stud. What happened?” Yu Yan asks as soon as you sit next to them.

“My chemistry teacher made us stay for longer. I really don’t wanna talk about it.” You bring out your lunchbox.

“Sheesh, making you wait like that? That really blows! How can anyone test someone’s patience like that? Awful, am I right Nariko?” Yu Yan smirks towards Nariko, who is acting off… more than normal.

“Yes…” Nariko sounds robotic, like she’s losing her sanity.

“Oh yeah, what happened to the lunch box? Is Nariko a good girl or not?” You wonder.

“Nariko is the goodest of girls, Johnny. She didn’t put a finger on them! She even agreed to wait for you to come join us before giving them a glimpse!” Yu Yan is obviously egging on Nariko.

“Yes… all for you…” Is Nariko even alive at this point?

“Aww, you didn’t have to.” You’re proud of your OG hobo. “Let’s eat!”

And so, Nariko immediately opened her lunch box and started chomping on her food like the most elegant cow you’ve ever seen. It’s like watching someone eat in a fancy restaurant at 4 times the speed. It’s weirdly hypnotic, so much so that both you and Yu Yan just watched in awe until she finished…

“It was sublime, Johnny.” Nariko puts her fork down, feeling blessed.

“I-It’s nothing…” You don’t know how she’s managing to get even faster at eating, but you feel like you should be concerned.

I filmed it all…” Yu Yan whispers to you as she shows you more of her bully ammo.

With that scene out of the way but not your mind, you start eating your own lunch. You look around while doing so and notice someone doing something somewhat ridiculous…

It’s Matilda, she’s standing next to the cafeteria door, handing out flyers with a big sign on her body that says “A vote for Yu is a vote for You. Vote Yu.”, you see one of the flyers picked up by one of the students near you and it says “Yu is doing it for you. Vote Yu.” …

“What the hell is she doing…?” You cannot help but comment.

“So you finally spotted our charming campaign manager! Ingenious marketing idea with the sign if I say so myself .” Yu Yan smirks at the sight of her campaign.

“Not so ingenious if he just noticed.” Nariko throws a shade now that she doesn’t have anything better to do. Being fair here, you ran here from your classroom, you didn’t pay attention to your surroundings.

“You should’ve voiced your concern earlier, future vice-president.” Yu Yan didn’t like that.

“You paid Matilda to do your campaign?” You raise an eyebrow. You haven’t seen even a flyer about this until now.

“Yeah, I had to do something quick. We discovered some shady stuff going on in this place.” Yu Yan acts like she has a scoop. “Nariko, you tell him. I’m eating.”

“We could both be eating if you share.” Nariko smiles.

“What? Why would I do that? Someone needs to explain what’s going on. Besides, you already ate a lot.” Yu Yan won’t do it.

“Tch, fine.” Nariko is displeased. “We learned that the school assumed with the old President dead, the Purple Rose’s would take over here, that would save everyone the trouble and whatnot since they don’t expect to rebuild Purple Rose in a timely manner. We had to go to the Principal’s office to let him know we wanted to run as well, the elections are this Friday. Basically, they changed the format due to their laziness, and we have to rush a campaign out to let the populace know about their new future rulers.”

“Big Magumbos came in clutch since we needed a teacher to endorse us. A bullshit rule if you ask me. But thanks to it we can blame her if we screw up.” Yu Yan finishes the tale.

Ooooh.” You’re not surprised though, Mr. Conti is the type of guy that cuts corners.

“I told you I was teasing the idea, but I had to go for it when we learned that. It is what it is, but I’m confident.” Yu Yan thinks she has it in the bag.

“You’re running against Duncan, huh?” You think he has no desire to run, but you’re not sure. Maybe you’re just misremembering it.

“You know the enemy, huh? Tell me about this Duncan and his weaknesses.” Yu Yan plays it up for the laughs.

“Yes, please, we have to crush him.” Nariko sounds determined.

“Why not run a fair campaign against each other…?” You naively wonder.

Suddenly you feel a strong presence behind you, then a hand touches your back to get your attention… it’s Scarlet!

“Just a quick thingy, read your messages.” Scarlet doesn’t want to take much of your time.

“We meet again, Scarlet.” Nariko says with defiance.

“Nariko, you seem to be doing well.” Scarlet gets on guard.

But there is something Scarlet’s not prepared to deal with…

“Hohoho… Who do we have here?” Yu Yan smirks as she examines Scarlet with her eyes.

This is not going to end up well…
