Following a war to subjugate the coastal savages to the north, a decade long overhaul of the road network has left the Empire's coffers empty, requiring further divine intervention in the economy.
--------------------------------------------------------------
We are greeting the Eighteenth Summer week's Middle in Loiur's 165th birthday of the Second Cycle.

In light of the Empire's recent economic reforms, father has done well in keeping the peace. With now well over 50 million new Eskbetz and 400 million new Xixz, whose value was debased from half an eskbet to a quarter eskbet, in circulation to accommodate for our ever growing population, many people were more than upset about the Empire's destruction of their life savings.
Cheeky devil that he was, father convinced the urban populations that they can take up their issues with him in the afterlife, where there is no threat to their corporeal integrity, thus making his successor - us - pay for it in this life.
Little do they know that father does not ascend to the afterlife, he remains shackled to this world, forever, like his forefathers had and my children will, living on within the ancestral Avatar, which again, we currently are.

Father has done a great many things to upset our people in his time, most egregiously of which was probably breathing.
It certainly doesn't help our case that we grew up with the same adorable creatures that fostered our people's resentment toward him to begin with.
Nevertheless, the people seem to not hold any disdain toward us, either this is father's cunning at work, or that blackguard lied to me and upset them some other way.
Whatever the case may be, now that he has passed, we are in control.

Reading through the weekly reports, we are beginning to wonder what kind of magic he used to keep the provinces from revolting, this is an absolute disaster.

We welcome the Eighteenth Summer week's Last in Loiur's 165th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

It took us a while to figure something out, but we've successfully concocted a plan to combat unrest in the provinces, though it pains us to admit it is highly experimental.
As such we decided to test it on a much more accessible population first, the urban folk.

Buying some empty buildings from their previous owners, we convert them into educational facilities, where people are taught basic skills, such as mathematics and literacy.

It is admittedly not the most glamorous of projects, but it serves its purpose.
As it currently stands, we allow people from all walks of life to get educated in these facilities, be they men, women, children, seniors, cripples, foreigners or criminals.
Only time will be able to tell whether our experiment is a success or not, and for whom we should design these facilities.
In the meantime however, we have other things to attend to.

Word has reached us that Axot II has tragically died of disease, and his youngest brother Axot III was granted kingship.
We don't know what to think of him yet, but rumors have it that he is an extraordinarily skilled commander, who had liberated a people called Auskaraz, from the occupation of a geldoz tribe unknown to us, with little more than a handful of soldiers by his side.
If that is true, he may be an intelligent ruler.

We greet the Fifth Autumn week's First in Loiur's 165th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Our education project has yielded few clues in these past weeks, leading us to believe that this may be a much more long term project than previously anticipated. Nevertheless we expect results in the coming years, even if inconclusive, our time is limited and our duties manifold, we simply cannot sit on this plan for too long.

Though governing is mundane and draining, the company of my animal friends continually reminds me of the beauty of companionship, I just wish sometimes that I could do unto them as they do unto me, and trust them with my child, if only I had any. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

While we deliberate on the possibility of procuring a mate to produce an heir with, our thoughts are unceremoniously interrupted by this week's batch of reports.

We skim through the mountain of paper to get an idea of the going-ons in the empire, sorting out several reports that we think special, our routine of reading and reacting begins anew.

First, a report from the city of Erongiza, noting successful development of workable shidroz, tried and tested on the battlefield.
Shidroz spears underperform significantly compared to bronzy, they break instead of bend, are unable to be recycled, repair is time consuming and production is more difficult due to greater heat requirements.
Nevertheless, the report recommends this inferior material on account of its ease of procurement and general lack of value.
A convincing case in our eyes, versatile as bronzy may be, it is expensive, too expensive for an army the size of ours.

We hail the Sixth Autumn week's Second in Loiur's 165th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After ordering the smelting down of all bronzy speartips and their replacement with shidroz, we were made aware of renewed clerical debates taking place across the empire.
The faith frankly does not concern us, we only intervene in these issues to prevent further destabilization of the realm.

We declare a council and invite high-status priests from every major settlement.
Soon as this had been done, the clergy present their issue to us.
Üryd Ezesh, a folk hero in the colonies who recently passed, is being requested acknowledgement of divinity by large parts of the colonial population, after priests brought over from the mainland, denied the man's very existence.

Now, we can't just accept Üryd Ezesh as a god like that, even though we know the truth that he was, the commoners must never know, lest their hostile overtures toward father begin translating into rebellion against us.
No, there must be another way to appease them.
We could give them the bare minimum and acknowledge that he existed and was a hero, a solution we are convinced none will be too thrilled or offended about.
On the other hand, we could elevate him to a reasonable status that, while definitely no god, would likely please the colonials.
Alternatively, we stick with the clergy on this one and denounce the existence of Üryd Ezesh.

We welcome the Sixth Autumn week's Middle in Loiur's 165th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Through intense deliberation, the clergy and us have come to an appropriate resolution to the issue, though they were vehemently against our acceptance of the peasants putting pressure on the temple.
It took a lot of convincing and liberal use of force, but we have achieved our goal in the council.
Üryd Ezesh has been elevated from folkhero to Sun Champion, a title first coined in this very meeting. The clergy had their concerns about setting a precedent like this, and while we do agree on that front, it had to be done, we'd rather see a loss of tradition than a loss of integrity.

We greet the Eleventh Autumn week's Fourth in Loiur's 165th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Our measures seem to have been a success, shrines to Üryd Ezesh have already been erected across the colonies as well as parts of the Eastern Frontier, unruly they might be, eburonez seem to behave themselves around father, even in death.
In other news, it appears as though the Adrebadez have migrated to Ürallux in their entirety, those left behind have been conquered by their rivals; and the alliances between aduadugz and their local geldoz have broken down, though hostilities have not renewed yet, it's only a matter of time.
We'll need new maps soon.

[I'm so fresh you can break my tie]
We hail the Twelfth Autumn week's First in Loiur's 165th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

A new report from the colonies tells us of rising tensions with the muxandaz colonists, in particular the tribe of gandiz, westward expansion stands in the way of linking up our northern and southern territories.
Though we currently rely on shipping to deliver goods, men and messages between the two, it is not a sustainable practice, the drain on the imperial bureaucracy is simply too great a burden, we must cut costs.

We greet the Thirteenth Autumn week's First in Loiur's 165th Birthyear in the Second Cycle

Reports of reached us of increased tensions once more, this time having escalated into skirmishes between peasant militias and gandiz warriors.
This has to stop.
There are several ways we can go about stopping this, chiefly violence, the language of the savages.
On the other hand, we could negotiate for claims until both of us can reach an agreement.
There's also the option of nullifying the problem entirely and inviting them into the empire, but we doubt they'll accept that.

We welcome the Thirteenth Autumn week's Last in Loiur's 165th Birthyear in the Second Cycle

We have issued a declaration of war to the Gandiz and have called upon the Ongizaz to depart for Ürallux, as have we at the beginning of the week.
Though we have already arrived in Ürallux, the Ongizaz are still a day behind, and we are in dire need of direction.
Local colonials have already directed us further inland toward Erongiza, but be that as it may, we need to join forces with the frontiersmen of the southern colonies.

Sometimes I wish I was a bird, and didn't have to put up with stuff like this.

We greet the Fourteenth Autumn week's First in Loiur's 165th Birthyear in the Second Cycle

Ongizaz have finally made it here and we have readied them for combat, or perhaps they've readied me. Whatever the case may be, amidst the no-man's land separating the colonies, the right to which this very war is about, we unexpectedly meet up with the southern militia.
They are dressed most bizarrely, most are still donning their working gloves and shade-hats, as if they're out in the fields.
A great many are wearing a crude, amorphous slab of shidroz on their chest, presumably as makeshift armor.
Everyone however, seems to be lacking proper spears, carrying instead other contraptions they pass for weapons, most abundant among them something they refer to as an "Adanyk" - a bizarre form of axe - usually accompanied by a "Shidresk", which we can't really see anywhere, the peasants will have to clarify that one to us later.
These shidreskaz lack of visibility concerns us deeply, as there are several completely unarmed peasants walking around, claiming to be carrying them; They're not imaginary weapons, are they?

Well, time is limited, we have to get a move on.

We hail the Fourteenth Autumn week's Middle in Loiur's 165th Birthyear in the Second Cycle

After having arrived in the southern colonies, we have picked up more militiamen who got left behind by the others in the days before.
Heading north to the southern Gandiz border, we notice that the militiamen have segregated themselves into smaller groups, each roughly 50 men in size, carrying the same equipment.
No longer do they appear as a ragtag bunch of armed rabble, but almost like a real army, each unit specialized for their role in combat.
This campaign so far has been a revelation, these peasants are demonstrating greater group cohesion than our own army, which is worrisome, not due to the ability of the peasants, but the inability of our troops.
When this is over, we will honor these men by adapting their ways of warfare into the empire at large.

We have arrived at the battlefield, the Gandiz already waiting for us.
The peasant commander rallies his men in an inspiring speech about the inevitable, the duties of a man and the attachments of a colonist.
Even our ongizaz are touched by his words.
Our headguard goes to have another look at his men before battle, not bothering with a speech as to not steal the peasant's show, a wise choice in our opinion.

We demount our donkey, stepping to the front with our spear readied, in view of both militia and ongizaz, giving the command to attack.
As a leader should, we are the first to charge at the enemy, let's hope we survive our first real battle.

I think we should be close to the leader so we have better coordination leading the armies and yadda yadda, y'know? We might have a looser grasp of our troops but I think it is worth the effort, mainly since the leader probably knows better considering the terrain and stuff like that

War is pretty exciting, the deafening clash of metals, the screams of rage and agony, the looming threat of death, and the thrill of killing.
I'm feeling like a child again.

We remain close to the militia commander during this fight as to not endanger ourselves too much, he appears to be quite the veteran.

In a brief moment of respite, between one kill and the next, I watch this hulking man block an enemy's strike with his adanyk, leaving him open to attack, but before the enemy could react, he had already let go of his weapon with his right hand, and punched the gandisa warrior in the gut, knocking him out instantly.
What a beast.

With his help, we are able to issue commands quicker than usual, but at the end of the day, it looks as though that was unnecessary.

After battle we regroup and give our praise to both the commander and his troops, truly our presence here was not the least bit required, we thank the peasants and humbly ask for their continued support, to which we bow to add weight to our words.

We leave the rest of the campaign in the capable hands of the peasant leader and simply follow his orders.

We welcome the Eighteenth Autumn week's Second in Loiur's 165th Birthyear in the Second Cycle.

The campaign is over, the gandisa armies have been reduced to ash and the gandiz themselves have scattered across the land.
New year is coming up soon and we want to celebrate both it and our victory.

We celebrate the First Winter week's First, in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

We gather at an empty settlement that the colonists regularly have new year parties at.
Women and children camp in the houses and prepare food, a few militiamen help them out, though it seems only the particularly young ones.
These poor boys likely are children, already scarred by life.
At least the commander is helping out as well to make them feel less embarrassed.
The men of the colonies chop some wood in the meantime to erect a giant pyre.
With the preparations complete, the pyre is lit at moon's peak, and people throw little bundles of herbs, wrapped and bound like a corpse, with bad words written on them, into it.
A peculiar tradition, unlike anything in the empire proper.
The peasant commander, who introduces himself as Ovini, tells us that this practice is to be rid of ones' detrimental traits, by casting said traits into the fire.
We ask whether he cast anything in there.
He chuckles and says that that's none of our business.
Shortly thereafter, someone hands us a blank bundle and some paint.
We dip a finger in and write "shyness" on our bundle, before casting it into the fire with great vigor.
Ovini chuckles at us again and asks what it is we cast in there.
We smugly return his previous words back at him.
He stares at us in a brief moment of disbelief, then bursts into laughter, patting us on the shoulder with the force of ten oxen.
Later in the night we began to drink, and don't much remember what happened after.

The next morning, as we write this entry, we find ourselves sharing a bed with Ovini, judging by the both of us being clothed, we suspect nothing strange happened.
Despite this, we feel strange about him, this is a most unusual feeling and it makes us uncomfortable.

We head outside and see the mess of last night's celebrating being slowly cleaned up.

We walk up to the pyre and ask the men dismantling it whether they need a hand, they assure us that they don't, but we are welcome to give them one regardless.
So we begin hauling logs and shoveling ash
we spot Ovini helping out the women again, and at one point even vanish into one of the buildings for a good while, such a ladies man.
Though afterward we didn't see him again for the rest of the day.

As aitlaz sets and balza rises the colonists from further away have already departed back to their villages, while the ones living close by spent the night here once more, among them are myself and ovini, who told me he had business in the forest to take care of, if we had to guess, he was probably out hunting.

Ovini offers to share the bed once again, being sober this time, we realize that the alternative would be sleeping on the ground like some other people we talked to had done, and that this is likely what had motivated us last time.

We don't mind either way, father raised me in the way of the warrior, that did include sleeping on the ground outside every now and again.

We give it a bit of thought, but not too much, and just accept, it is merely a bed after all.
We remove our mantle and shoes before going to bed, we witness Ovini remove some clothing as well, though the purpose of these is unclear to us, they're no field garments, like a peasant would wear, strange.
Now that we've gotten a good look at him from up close, he also seems quite baby-faced, funny to think that such a monstrosity could look so innocently youthful.

We hail the First Winter week's Second in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Unsure of whether the dream we had last night was a nightmare or not, we begin packing our belongings and preparing to leave.
Now that the ceremonial village has been cleaned, it is time for everyone to depart.
Having dismissed our ongizaz already the day before, we tag along with Ovini for the time being, getting to see his village.
It appears quite the homely place, though we note with distress that, the place seems devoid of men.
Ovini confirms our suspicions and tells us that the men have all perished over time, trying to protect the women from raiders, not even the elderly survived.
We feel for his loss, and offer him to come to the capital, brave protector of these women that he is, he may bring the entire village along, we will take care of them.
He seems excited at the prospect and storms inside what we presume to be his home.
A good while later, he returns and agrees to our proposal, with this, we make our way back to Erongiza to help the villagers relocate.

We greet the First Winter week's Last in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Having brought over some ongizaz, we begin relocating the villagers, who are already well-prepared for the journey.
Ovini sports his combat gear and walks beside the ox-carts.
Feeling bad for him, we offer our donkey to one of the elderly women, and join Ovini in walking.

We welcome The Third Winter week's Fourth in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

The trek took a lot longer than expected, but we're glad we finally made it, well almost.
We have landed on the shores of the mainland and it's only a day's walk from here to Aitlazaderb.
relieved at having crossed the sea safely, the villagers all express their thanks by giving us a kiss on the cheek, charming, Ovini does as well.

I don't know if a men kissing other men is normal in ürallux or if that's just a village thing, but this didn't make me as uncomfortable as it should have, and I don't like that.

We greet the Third Winter week's Last in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

At last we are back home and the village has been given temporary shelter in the palace, until new houses can be built for them.
Ovini and the headguard are sizing each other up before going out back to spar.
We'd love to join them, but duty calls.

Reports from across the realm have been condensed for us by the wiseman of balzari, to decrease our workload, an act of foresight if we've ever seen one.
Among these is increasing activity on the colonies' northern borders, apparently
many enterprising üralluxaz are setting up trading posts there.
This would be a prime opportunity to conquer them, however not through violence, but commerce.
If we can bind the üralluxaz to the empire, their lands will be ours without a single drop of peasant blood.

We dispatch an envoy to these trading posts and inform them of our willingness to formalize trade relations.

We hail the Second Winter week's Fourth in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

The envoy has returned with most joyful news, the merchants have accepted our proposal and are spreading the word among their peers, soon all of Ürallux will be taking their business to us.

[oh we're halfway there woah-oh waiting for tie breaker]
We welcome the Third Winter week's Second in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Reports of widespread discontent in menapallux are nothing new, our father did conquer them not too long ago; However they get more numerous by the week and we feel obligated to continue his legacy of peace-keeping and stability, after all, the greatest warriors are those who win a war before it ever breaks out.
So far, the empire has approached its northern menapaz on equal ground, clearly this has given them the wrong idea about their place in our society.
Going by historical records, a conquered people must first be made aware of our superiority, before a genuine friendship can be achieved.
We have given the menapaz too much autonomy, an error we must amend, either by force or other means.

[thank you for choosing Tiebreaker(TM)]
We figure, to reduce their autonomy it is best we invest more heavily in the area, and incentivize merchants to move to menapallux and drive the locals out of business.
To facilitate this, we draft up a new law that entitles all new businesses to imperial funding, if a request is made ahead of time, detailing the intended manner, location, and projected start-up expenses.
Once finished, this legislation will enable those versed in our language and familiar with the bureaucratic process to gain a leg-up over their competitors, who in this case will be the illiterate and mute menapaz.

We greet the Third week's Fourth in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After having managed to acquire some free time again, we spend our evening outdoors, practicing the art of the spear and the throw.
Unbeknownst to us, Ovini has observed our display of self-improvement and remarked his awe when we ran into him on our way back.
It embarrassed us to hear this from him, considering his stature, it felt condescending, but we are certain it was a compliment.
Furthermore he noted how impressed he was by our workethic, he didn't think it possible for a man to be able to run an entire country the size of the empire by himself.
We laugh it off and give credit to our bureaucrats, who admittedly do most of the work for us.
Our chat continues for a while, by the time it ended Balza had already peaked and it was high time for us to go to bed, we can't run an empire without sleep.

We hail the Sixth Winter week's First in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After decades of apparent placidity the populace of eburonallux has made itself known once again, this time however with a lot fewer rebellions and crime, but through admirable signs of integration.
Our interest was piqued upon our recent attempt to divide their lands into administrative sectors, due to our belief that wisemen shouldn't merely govern our own, but also foreigners, especially those as a matter of fact.
During this attempt, the people we assigned reported to us within the very first week, that no attempt at communication had succeeded.
As it currently stands, the eburonez no longer speak their own language, nor do they speak ours for that matter, it is a grotesque mixture of both, likely stemming from their intermingling with our settlers.
This is an issue not unlike that present in other parts of the empire, in fact, it has been plaguing the frontiers for decades and in some places over a century.
Even our most loyal ongizaz are not exempt from this issue, though ongizeja is an official language of the empire, and their warriors in general, speak our language fluently, mitigating the effects of the problem significantly.

We will have to work out this issue somehow, lest the empire collapses; In the meantime we must decide what to do about the ungovernability of the eburonez

We greet the Sixth Winter week's Second in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Today is our birthday, more specifically, our 30th birthday.
The circumstance of our birth was quite unfortunate, and we are reminded annually by our friend and family thereof and its apparent hilarity to them. We for one find it miraculous to have survived birth at all and consider these particular jokes at our expense, to be done in incredibly bad faith.
Being renown as a humorous fellow has its downsides, none seem to take our hurtness seriously, no matter how often we remind them.
It is for this reason, that despite our ostensible enjoyment, we hate our birthday to an arguably unhealthy degree. We dread its coming every year.

This year however, things are different, the same crowd that would normally make fun of us for our mother's shortsightedness have remained quiet and left it at mere jabs at our extensive number of pets.
It appears as though Ovini's mere presence has changed the attitude of these spiteful cows.
For once, we enjoyed our birthday celebration, all thanks to Ovini's intimidating demeanor.

We welcome the Seventh Winter week's Last in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

The time has come to part ways with Ovini, construction of his new village near the capital has been completed, him and his all-women villagers depart, despite our request for him to remain here as our bodyguard.
He told us, that once the village has some men, he'll consider coming back.

With these words he left, leaving us with a feeling of destitution.
However, with nothing else to occupy our mind, it has become apparent to us what we need to do to turn the empire's shortcomings around.

We hail the Eight Winter week's First in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Though it has only been a season's time, we believe to have found the purpose for education facilities, based on the collected data.
Education's foremost priority shall be children who are not yet of working age, there they must be taught a deeper understanding of our language, of mathematics and finance, of philosophy and free thought, and of the faith.
Moreover, separate schools for adults must be constructed, these are to primarily target women and artists, teaching them the values of family and ancestors, history, art and geography, as well as law

Having planned our institutions for generations to come, we must implement them immediately, to see the results.
As such we have decided to kill two hares in one throw, by implementing the new school system in eburonallux to decrease our administrative burden.

We greet the First Spring week's Fourth in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

While construction of the schools was still underway, we gathered several lower level wisemen and translators, to codify our language once more.
In the past the issue was that our language wasn't written, a loss we suffered transitioning cycles.
Now our language has fallen apart into dialects, and it is up to us to reforge it.
Having brought speakers of all our dialects to court and bureaucrats to catalog all comparisons, we have managed through meticulous recording and methodical thinking, to break down our languages into their most basic component, and craft a new system that would bring all common components together, reforging our languages into one new whole.
It is frankly, not a language of any people, the empire has grown too diverse to claim as such, rather it is a language of the land, our nation.
Hence we shall call it: Ytsexalluxa - Dusklandian, following the rules of this new language of course.

It shall be taught in all schools across the land, and replace boxdony as the official language of the Empire, it shall have no equals, not even ongizeja.
Of course, having created this new language, we must learn and speak it ourselves, however difficult a task it may be, we whole-heartedly believe in the supremacy of ytsexalluxa, not least because we crafted an entirely new script, one that uses individual sounds instead of words, in order to help the populace learn their new language and ease them into the use of the proper boxdony script, whose use will remain uncontested throughout the realm.

We welcome the Second Spring week's First in Loiur's 16th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After the grueling task of rewriting our entire language, we decide to take a break and visit Ovini's new village.
It is quite easy to find, as it is in the middle of the road between the balzari and odoba, they did this rather than constructing an entirely new stretch of road, which is far more cost effective.
Upon our arrival, we are greeted by the host women who inhabit this village, though there are a few men around already.
Catching our eye is a muscular young lady with short white hair and burning red eyes, she reminds us of Ovini, perhaps his sister.
We don't call out to her, as we have a crowd around us, this would be inappropriate.

After having informed the crowd that we are here to see Ovini, they turn around to look for him, but don't spot him anywhere, one of them knocks on the door of a white house with green spots.
Sure enough, Ovini answers the door and heads straight toward us.
We exchange a few pleasantries and go on a walk, trying to escape the gossiping going on right next to us.
Him and us talk about a great many things of personal nature, it makes us nervous, but we are doing our best to uphold the facade of utter confidence, befitting of a king.
We also discuss our unfortunate childhoods, among other things.
He seems to have been shunned by the other children when he was one himself, for reasons entirely superficial, they simply could not understand why he was paler than snow.
Frankly, we don't understand either, but we figure that it is a blessing from the moon, and assure him that in the afterlife, he will be a champion.
He accepts this reasoning with nothing more than a smile.

Upon returning from our walk, Ovini turns to us and offers to join us at court as our bodyguard, under one condition: we must disclose our secret to him.

I don't know what kind of secret he thinks I harbor, but I feel like he's onto something.

We agree to his little ultimatum with joy and share a good laugh.

We hail the Second Spring week's Second in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Thanks to Ovini's instructions we finally understand the bizarre weapon he and the peasants carried to battle, as it turns out, Adanykaz were designed as an act of desperation, calendars and other simple household items, smelted down into a disc shape and wedged into a staff.
Functionally, they are axes, but the circular shape allows them to be sharpened to a greater degree than a regular axe, allowing for deeper cuts, also it was noted by a great meany peasants, that the outlandish look terrifies unfamiliar opponents.
Adanykaz are often paired with Shidreskaz, which we were introduced to before, but never actually seen them.
Ovini explains that they aren't as much a weapon as they are makeshift shields.
CUT
>>
>>4689136
CONT
They started out as simple gauntlets, weighted with riveted pieces of shidroz, which served to reduce injury by grabbing an opponent's weapon by the blade. Later, they became even heavier to enable not only protecting yourself, but also grappling with enemies, impeding their movements.
When an encounter has reached the point of grappling, it is then that the Shidresk becomes a weapon, by punching an unguarded opponent as low, and quickly, as possible, the shock of a sudden blow like that, then enables a militiaman to deal the final blow with their adanyk.

We are fascinated and terrified by these intricate tactics, and as we have promised last year, will implement them in our army over the coming seasons.
After all, the peasantry are the backbone of the Empire, we were founded by their efforts, and their efforts alone, lest we forget that Aitlaz himself was a peasant in life.

So this is about the natives of Ürallux, the colonies. I think we can do great with them if we can get them to work for with us *cough* *cough*
Even though the border dispute with kybrenn is there, at this point I think it is a good idea to let them come to us, if it comes to arms. We are best at defending sieges so we should do that. Of course, I don't think we can just grab all of Ürallux for ourselves but if we see just how fragmented the people are in it... of course the opposite can be, that there are strong and cohesive civs, I don't know about that history

We welcome the Second Spring week's Middle in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

A tribal chief from Ürallux has reached out to us and made the arduous journey from his homeland to our capital. He requests entry into the Empire.
This coming out of nowhere, makes us suspicious as to the ongoings of the island.
He claims to be from a people called Tamaz, who live along the Tamasa river, we don't know this river, so we ask where it lies.
Upon explaining that one of our cities is located on the Tamasa, we realize he's talking about the Iba Burzun.
With this out of the way, he tells us that poverty has befallen his tribe, not least because of raiders from the south, he requests our protection.

We accept his request and offer him to join the great confederation.
Under our protection, his people must first and foremost free all slaves and renounce the practice of slavery, they must adhere to the laws of the confederation, but may continue to practice and enact their own laws in addition to them, further must they recognize the supreme authority of the Ashgiz over all living things in this life, lastly they must accept any call to arms by the confederation, in return we will do the same.
He thinks it over but in the end accepts all the responsibilities of joining the great confederation.
We send him back home, along with a few scouts to survey his territory and a letter signed by ourself and the headguard that entitle him to the use of ongizaz to defend his realm.
He kneels before us in gratitude, before making his way home.

We greet the Seventh Spring week's Fourth in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

For decades relations with the Kybrennaz have been cold, they do not wish to interact with us and neither our father, nor his regent wished to interact with them.
Upon first contact, a war almost broke out, the Kybrennaz were unhappy with our expansion into what once was an independent Eburonallux, while the Empire cried sacrilege at their raiding and enslavement of border villages.
Father managed to put a halt to this and reassured them that we would not expand further east.
Though it was short-lived, there even had been instances of trade between Kybrennaz and the Empire.
Currently however, relations have returned to their original state and we see no reason to accommodate their tribes any longer.
We don't know why father was so opposed to war, being a warrior himself, but if what he felt was anything like the thrill we experienced, he must have been planning something, because if not, it would mean this great hero was a coward after all.

Nevertheless, the Kybrennaz tribes never made it clear what their objective is and our envoys, supposed to find out what they want by talks, never returned, we fear they might have been killed.

We welcome the Eighth Spring week's First in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Though we thirst for war, Ovini assures us that the peasants do not.
As to not tread on their feelings and corrode their loyalty, we try to apply force differently.
If the enemy could be persuaded that to fight the Empire is not only futile, but self-destructive, their ranks might waver and make campaigns against us impossible.
To this end, we send out recruitment orders to all corners of the empire, even our confederates.

We hail the Thirteenth Spring week's Middle in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Stretching the capacity of the Empire's logistics and supply to the fullest, we have assembled an army unrivaled in the world, raising an unprecedented 80 thousand men and positioning them along the borders to the Kybrennaz tribes.

While posted there, we order the construction of walls around every settlement containing more than 100 souls.
They'll likely be done by the end of the year.
Though this massive undertaking could cripple the economy in the long run, for now, the combined armies of the empire and the confederation make our point abundantly clear.

To reinforce our point, we send out new envoys, bearing our demands to cease hostilities and return those enslaved to the empire.
We eagerly await their answers.

For now, we relax

We greet the Thirteenth Spring week's Fourth in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Having quite literally nothing to do today, we slide down on the throne and consider going back to bed.
A day off will certainly not hurt us, but Ovini has a different opinion on that.
He says that we shouldn't just slack off like that, but we convince him to slack off with us instead, after all, everyone needs a break from time to time.
And so, tired as he seems as well, just falls over sideways across the throne and our stomach, where our lap would be if we sat properly.
Together, we just hang out, literally, talking about our favorite foods and occasionally indulging our pets' need for attention, grooming and cuddling them.
After having moved from the throne room to the palace garden, lying on the grass rather than the uncomfortably ancient chair, Ovini reminds us of our promise and asks:
"Atzik asarex embe mi eshy kinara?"
[when are you going to tell me your secret?]
without giving it a second thought, we turn our head toward him and say:
"nu bejohan mi esheja"
[I love you]
"nu jaga mi"
[I know]
Before we could ask how, he said he figured we had a crush after that time we got flustered at the idea of sharing a bed.
As we try to stutter out an explanation, he says we should get used to sleeping with our wife.
Wait, wife?
Following a brief moment of silence, Ovini
bursts into laughter and mocks us for not realizing she was a woman, proceeding to call us mentally deficient in ways we did not think possible before.
After having calmed down, she wipes the tears out her eyes and grabs us by our shoulders, saying that she'll fix our apparent retardation in due time, starting now.

We share our first kiss

That was...something

We welcome the Thirteenth Spring week's Last in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Our envoys have returned for once, a peace has been successfully brokered, though the Kybrennaz have no way of knowing which slaves belonged to the empire and which didn't , or so they claim, they will send us slaves that they believe are ours.
With this, we issue the order to slowly demobilize, only 100 men are allowed to leave per day, and must all be taken from different parts of the border, as to not disrupt the construction process currently ongoing.

As our troops are slowly returning home, we consider a peculiar behavior they have shown according to their commanders.
Many would compete against one in another in the name of their city, even if they themselves weren't even from there, but a nearby village instead.
While this might seem petty and needlessly tribal to an outside observer, to us it is the peasants taking pride in their fellows, rather than themselves, something the royal family has been doing for centuries.
Though the scope of our pride encompasses the whole empire, it is a good feeling regardless, to see the peasants finally civilizing themselves.

We hail the Seventeenth Spring week's First in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Now that the "damage" to my head has been fixed, we have tasked Ovini with the training of the ongizaz in her ways of war, while we will be out with the headguard for a short while.

What she doesn't know, is that I'm going on a quest to make her the greatest bridal crown anyone has ever seen, it'll be legendary.

I convinced Goxdesh that we should travel north with the merchants and see what's up there. It's also a convenient excuse for me to drop formalities for once, no one seems to realize just how tedious it is to constantly talk like a corpse*.
With that, we disguise ourselves as commoners and hop on a merchant ship headed north.
With every passing day, the wind gets colder and the air saltier, I'm really not used to this kind of weather change.
Eventually, the ship stops off the coast of the flattest land I've ever seen. Goxdesh and I get off and look around the place, it looks like a series of duguvaz with large family homes built on top of them. In the middle of those, there's one without a house but stalls, attracting far more people than should be in this village.
We go there and trade some weapons I brought with me, for the curiosities in this village.
There's a lot of intriguing stuff here, oxinedsh** necklaces, weird bronzy helmets, and some yra*** artifacts, most importantly however, is a human curiosity.
An Yrabadan, we don't really have those in the empire, yra is a scarce resource, but I've met a few travelling ones before, and this one here looks particularly skilled.
The items he's got on display look very expensive.
I get into a bit of an argument with him about those, complimenting him along the way.
Truth is, I want his services, though I'm not sure whether I want to buy an existing circlet and just add something myself, pay him to make a custom piece, namely a crown, or get him to teach me his craft, even if only for a day, since I'm expected to make this thing myself.

He's reluctant to teach a foreigner, especially since I need a translator to even talk to him beyond gesturing, but he's up for the task, though only until sundown.
That isn't nearly enough time to learn anything useful, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
I'm not sure how he does it, but from what he's showing me, it is apparently possible to simply combine two pieces of yra near seamlessly.
Interestingly, he also uses different sized saws and files to work an already cold piece of yra, separating and reducing them into the desired shape.
Though I didn't gain any actual skill from simply watching, I did learn how to acquire them.
I thank the man and buy some raw gold off of him at a discount, leaving with the sunset.

Goxdesh says he learned something about shipbuilding while he was here, that's good news, hope he makes something of it.

A few days later we've arrived back home, Goxdesh asks for a vacation, I grant it, he deserves it.
Time to return to the capital and work on my wife-to-be's crown.
She's going to love the gems I bought for this, they're...

...flaming red, unlike any anyone has ever seen before. I decided to call them Solnedsh.
Now it's time to start making my masterpiece.
First, I procure a thin udgo* veil and cut off the front that would cover the face, leaving only the side and back.
Then I make a thick circular mold and start smelting the yra, after pouring it in and letting it somewhat cool, I begin hammering at it to flatten it, making the circlet as wide as a blade in the process.
Now that it has cooled off completely, I heat up some small bits of yra that I lost during shaping and use those to attach the solnedshaz to the front of the circlet which is now a band.
Now that it has all cooled off, I smoothen the band to a uniform shape, before attaching the veil inside it, using a thin strip of leather, riveted to the band with flat bronzy buttons.
Afterward, I use the leftover veil cloth to give the crown a comfortable headroom, so as to cover the entire head and making rest stable on it.
With this, I'm ready to marry Ovini.

We greet the Eighteenth Spring week's Last in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

While we are preparing the wedding ceremony, it has come to our attention that a musical troupe from the countryside is touring the empire.
Having never met a peasant musician before, we assumed they had to be ejugaz, but we were mistaken.
Though they did have ejugaz, they were mostly composed of flutists when they came to the capital.
Their incredible performance has sparked debate whether instruments should be considered music after all, among the elites of society.
We for one, support the notion that tools can produce music, since we have witnessed it first hand.
As a matter of fact, we have invited the troupe to play at our wedding, it will be a grand show, we are sure.

We hail the First Summer week's First in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Our wedding has finally come, as is royal tradition, the whole realm is invited, but chief among them are the families of bride and groom.
Ovini is already at the front of the crowd, where the priest awaits our arrival.
Bearing a pot of riches, as is tradition, we arrive last onto the scene, after every invitee has already taken their spot.
After a slow walk toward our beloved, we stand before her and smash the pot of riches on the ground, causing countless coins to scatter across the floor.
After the priest has bumped our heads together, we are officially husband and wife, as such, we pick up the crown from among the riches and place it on her head.
Though my wife is muscular and heavy, giving the onlookers a joyful doubt in my ability to carry her, we are no weakling either, have we not been trained by father since infancy?
In a rare display of showmanship, we rip our shirt apart and have the audience gaze upon our rectangular frame.
We give them a good flex, before lifting Ovini off the ground and parading her above our head.
After the mandatory walk of strength, we don't quite set her down, but rest her upon our shoulder instead, carrying her like this all the way back to the palace.

We welcome the First Summer week's Second in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After our wedding night, Ovini and I get back to our normal lives by day, though slightly more enthusiastic than before.

Word has it that a new book is concerning the clergy greatly, though the commoners who can read find it most intriguing instead.
This work is titled "At embex doneja'tehera et ydela"
[On the Sun and the Popular Mandate]

We have procured a copy at a high price and read it ourselves, it is a political commentary on our authority, its basis in peasant support, and the danger that lies in bureaucracy.
The author fears that, should a power hungry or insane ruler come to pass, that he might burn the root of his power, not merely crippling the empire, but disenfranchising the commoners in favor of the imperial bureaucracy.
Such a state, he fears, would rely on brute military power to suppress the freedoms past rulers have granted the commoners, and could possibly even reinstate slavery.
In the scenario he describes, the office of Ashgiz has devolved into a birth-heredity that justifies itself not by its actions and accountability toward the peasants, but divine providence.
Inspired by the unpopular rule of our father, the author of the book calls for a consistent succession and law-observers who hold any future Ashgiz accountable for crimes they may commit.

This is quite the demand to be making, that's for sure.

We have sent out an invitation for this man to arrive at court, during the First Summer week's Third, by the Fourth he had arrived.
He introduces himself as Gelasho Mag Goxoro.
We inquire as to the motivation to write this book during our rule, and not that of our father, given the obvious contempt he holds.
Gelash claims he simply feared for his life to voice an opinion such as this during the rule of a tyrant, but fails to name a single example of tyranny when pressed on the issue.
Though the blatant display of hypocrisy nags at his credibility, he has nevertheless brought up good enough an argument for the empire at large to listen.
Despite us having read his book, we still have questions regarding the content, why is it that he believes our current course will result in this grotesque future he describes?
why does he fear the wisemen so much?
what makes him think we will ever select an insane heir?

He has no concise answer to these questions, but notes that, looking at path the muxandaz have taken, or even comparing the empire's style of governance to that of Axotallux, it is a logical conclusion to him that without the decisive guidance of the people, an Ashgiz will become a simple brute like all the other kings out there.
We can't really fault his logic, but we're not convinced.

After arguing back and forth like this for what feels like a whole cycle, we have reached some semblance of agreement.
A law detailing the exact process of succession seems reasonable enough, given the precedent of the usurpation war.
He shall also have his observers who ensure our continued righteousness, to his delight we will do so as well for the wisemen.
Against his objections however, these observers will also be overlooking the general populace, when available anyway, and report to their local guards.

While we work out the details on these reforms, Gelash returns home, let's hope he doesn't come back.

We hail the Third Summer week's Last in Loiur's 166th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Unable to reach a decisive conclusion for almost two weeks, we decide it's best to combine all of our ideas into one single system, inexploitable, incorruptible, a perfect law to breed perfect kings.

Following this new law, all potential candidates must have some semblance of renown among their peers, carry an understanding of hierarchy, be of noble nature, hold deep convictions, present a sound mind, and command respect.

More precisely, the law dictates that, beyond merely being literate...

...candidates must have a natural affinity for free thought and reasoning
they must hold the values of our society in high regard, by spreading and upholding the integrity of our faith
further they are expected to be of strong will, not to fall into stagnation in the name of our ancestors, but seek out new truths with an open mind, like they did
we would also have them be of middle age, while the young often meet our other criteria, they simply do not possess the lived experience to act in the best interest of us all, though we reckon there are old minds in young bodies and vice versa, those not too young and not too old are preferred

To determine whether a candidate possesses all the expected faculties, they must stand trial before a public jury, where they are to be physically and mentally examined, before being questioned on their future plans
if a candidate is perceived to be deceiving the jury, they are excluded from the imperial selection for life
The final judgement whether a candidate is to become heir to the empire or not, will be done with a different jury containing a representative of every major urban center, in addition to one rural representative, and the ashgiz themselves.
representatives must not be selected from just the city itself, but its surrounding countryside as well, for this, peasants must locate their nearest city and participate in the vote there
the rural representative is elected by a council, consisting of those selected to represent individual border, frontier, colonial and administrative dead-end villages, these dead-ends referring to those villages who are equally far away from multiple cities and thus must not be allowed to participate in the votes of either
this rural council then selects a singular representative from among themselves to sit on the imperial jury

a unanimous consent between jury and ashgiz must be reached before an heir may be declared prince or princess
the remaining candidates must then sign a contract to either never participate in the selection again, or remain on standby as a pretender, should the designated heir die prematurely
these pretenders will be ranked by an independent peasant council and added to a list of approved successors to the heir, based upon the results previously recorded by the imperial jury
those ranking higher on the list of successors, will receive preferential consideration in replacing a deceased heir.

With this, we believe the succession to the empire, to be eternally secured.

We hail the Nineteenth Autumn week's Middle in Loiur's 170th Birthyear

At 28 years of age, Ovini has given birth to our first child, a healthy baby girl, we call her Udenedi.
Just the next year, on the Tenth Autumn week's First, she gave birth again, this time a handsome baby boy, we call him Ovino, for he looks just as pale with the same red eyes as his mother.

Though imperial duties take priority, if only for the horrendous workload, we do our best to always be there for our wife and children.
Seemingly however, they always seem to want to spend their time with us, when we are the busiest, and seem perfectly content when we have time to spare.
As such, we decide to play along and move a part of our workload to our recreation time, so as to pretend to be busy for our family, when in reality we have arranged for this time to be spent specifically with them.

During our children's early years growing up, it also appears they sneak out of the palace at night, we don't know what they're up to, but the guards assure us, they're taking care of them.
As they get older, the frequency of their nightly escapes increases, Ovini and the guards are convinced that they're not so much leaving, as they are leaving us alone.
With that mildly embarrassing fact finally cleared up, Ovini and us keep trying for another child, and try to do so when our children are already asleep as to not be further disturbed by their mother's scheduled exercise.

We greet the Fifth Summer week's Fourth in Loiur's 182nd Birthyear
Our third child, Yravi, has turned 4 years of age.
Normally we would celebrate this occasion, but disconcerting news have reached us, about a great western army, rampaging through the geldoz tribes.
Though their advance is slow, it is thorough and meticulous.
Fact is, we have only heard of it now, 5 years after the fact, from the survivors of the Piktonez, once one of the most powerful geldoz tribes, on their trek into the vast unknown of northern ürallux.

Eventually, they will reach us as well
we have to prepare ahead of time.

We welcome the Fifth Summer week's Last in Loiur's 182nd Birthyear

To combat the looming threat from the west, we send envoys out to speak to the savages on our behalf.

We greet the Thirteenth Winter week's Second in Loiur's 184th Birthyear

After more than a year of stupendous back and forth between the tribal kings, our envoys and us, we have successfully managed to federate the western tribes, is what we would like to say anyway.
While there was some success, namely with the smaller tribes who felt immediately threatened by the great western army, we did manage to bring the remaining tribes together into a federation.
A federation against us, that is.
Under the leadership of the Bellovakaz King, a charismatic old man by the name of Belrig.
Using our federation attempts as a catalyst, Belrig has called upon a great union of warriors from all tribes, to combat the advancing western army, as well as to combat the light of civilization, henceforth Belrig rules over the new Belgez tribe.

Meanwhile, word has reached us that the Legezoviz have engaged the great western army, they are the last tribe in between our new confederates and the advancing enemy.

I dont think we should exhaust our manpower just yet.
>>
>>4704800
>A federation against us, that is.
COME ON. Our allied tribes are Kajedaz, Veliokaz, Ambianaz and Remaz, who will face the army alone if we don't do anything. The enemy tribes lead by Belrig are against our interests. As about 30 years have passed since we reinforced the east against kybrennaz so I assume everyone is relocated already, back home... organizing a large mobilization is feasible plus I trust that our economy is OK enough to resist what is going on.

We have to get rid of Belgez if we plan to resist the alien army in any way.
>order total mobilization
>>
>>4704844
I am not worried about the economy or the effects of mass mobilization. I am worried that we will exhaust our manpower in one go. I believe that we should have a decent army standing which can be reinforced if the case demands it.
Also the Belgez are not a threat since they are dealing with the sudden invasion. The best case scenario is if they take the big hit of the invasion and we come in to clean all the leftovers off.
>>
>>4704800
>Issue a general call to arms.
>>
>>4704860
I don't want to sacrifice our federation because it is tactically advantageous
>>

What do you mean sacrifice the federation? The only entity that is currently in danger are the Belgez.
>>
>>4704872
>>4704842
>>4704826
As the Belgez are mobilizing, so too have we issued the act of general mobilization, as is standard procedure in war times.
Due to the urgency of the matter, we can expect 20000 to arrive at Lapejo within a week, and from there another another 5000 every week for a third of a season, any recruitment beyond that, might prove difficult.

To secure our confederates while we still can, we have dispatched our Ongizaz to organize their warriors, to improve their odds against the oncoming horde.

The next week, we have successfully assembled the army at Lapejo and are prepared to reinforce our comrades.
Speaking of, Ovini has left our children in the care of her aunts, bringing along with her several women of similar stature to hers.
These...uh...battle widows, she claims, are good friends of hers, who have fought many a skirmish alongside her back home in the colonies, they are here as per her request.
Not wanting to reject her gift, we assign them as our body guards, with our veteran wife at the head.

[parting the Tie like the red sea]
After we have shipped over to our western confederates, we are greeted by Goxdesh and the western kings, they confide with us, that they have amassed a force of 15000 warriors, while this is far from what they can muster, these men we are told, have at least some experience with the blade.

Before we were able to truly sort ourselves out, a scout arrives, shouting his lungs out
"ABDAXA" he screams, repeatedly.
After we stop him and let him catch his breath, he explains to us that he has witnessed an unholy army cross the Iba Zakvana
his description of half-horse, half-man monstrosities matches those of gizahabdaxa perfectly, this is not what we signed up for.

We move south-east into a more hilled area, west of which their route of destruction lies, after we have arrived, there is a wide passageway between the hills, it is wide enough to do combat in, but not to execute maneuvers effectively, this will be our point of contact.
Anyone with battlefield experience would see this as a good point of direct confrontation, where flanking is impossible, and thus the superior army wins by weight of its numbers.
We station all spear throwers on one side and all bolgoz on the other, when the order is given, the spear throwers attack first with half of their number, then the bolgoz attack the distracted foe, the other half of the spear throwers will go downhill behind the enemy when it's starting to look like they'll break.
Meanwhile, we along with our main army, will be attacking the enemy head-on in the passageway.
There will be no escape.

Our scouts report that their army has wiped out a village nearby and are now moving into the passage, just as expected.
However, we meet our throwers vacating their position and coming back to join the main force.
They say they have been discovered and came under attack by what looked like regular troops, though they won they had to retreat to minimize casualties.
This poses a problem to our plan.

As to not jeopardize our bolgoz, we recall and absorb them back into the main army.
We convene with the western kings, who say they have had experience with fighting horses.
Though they have never seen anyone riding them, a general approach to fighting people who drive chariots, is to attack the animal's legs.
A scarred young piktona warrior, who had joined our cause on the way here, confirms this approach, in the last few days of their escape from their own homeland, the piktonez scored some minor victories by attacking the animals instead of their masters.
He also informs us, that the horses won't meet us in open combat, they will come for us during our retreat, as they have done to his people countless times.
Ovini chimes in and suggests using adanykaz against those horses, should the time come.
We agree with her and propose to feign a retreat to draw out the enemy gizahabdaxa and destroy them in open combat, they'll never see it coming.
The western kings agree, on our command they will pretend to be routed.
Meanwhile, our adanyk wielders are reshuffled to the flanks, where they will encounter the gizahabdaxa during their "retreat".

The enemy has come into sight
they are shielded spearmen, covered in what seems like scales of shidroz, in the back we can see a most strange sight, men wielding wooden arches with tiny spears on their backs.
The western kings tell us, that this is what they call "bung" and "erkho", a common hunting tool apparently, and used in war by charioteers.

Before battle can truly begin however, the enemy sent a letter strapped to a dog, written in old-boxdoneja.
It reads:
"We, the Lord of Horses, the King of the Auskaraz, King of the Geldoz, King of the Axotaz, and Avatar of the Moon, in our everlasting mercy, grant the Dusk opportunity to surrender the Sun-Throne to its rightful owner, do so and you shall be spared, resist and the Dusk shall give way to the Night."

Since he's clearly expecting a response to his ultimatum, we think it best to give him exactly what he deserves.

"To you, Lord of Oxen, King of the Impotent, King of the Lame , King of the Inbred, Avatar of the Retarded, your everlasting incontinence be blamed, for that which you have tainted this paper.
The Dusk grants you opportunity to vacate your straw hut and return it to the ass from whence you stole it, do so and we shall restore your eyesight to behold the Day, resist and your Wife's horns shall be our trophy, her meat be served to her kin, and her wool adorn our crotch.

We send this letter to him back with the same dog he sent his, moments later we see a man in the back tossing something away, that must have been him.

The battle has begun and our troops are holding steady against the enemy, there are few casualties on either side, really this is unlike any previous battles.
Our enemies seem quite determined however, this appears a good moment to give the signal.
First our Left flank and soon after our Right flank have "broken" and are in "retreat", the Center which we lead is slowly falling back also.
From behind the hills, the gizahabdaxa storm out to intercept and encircle our army.
After the initial terror in our troops had subsided however, they tore them apart by first slaughtering the horses and then their riders.
The center meanwhile had retreated all of its's melee units to the back, revealing our mass of throwers, who are now hurling and harassing the enemy up-close and personal, before breaking up into the flanks, leaving the main force who had a moment of respite, to finish the rest.

The enemy broke and are slowly getting encircled by bolgoz who are rapidly chipping at their formation.
With another horse-attack however, the enemy had relieved their faltering troops and are in proper retreat, moving too fast for us to catch up.

This was a decisive victory against the great western army, who turned out to be a very ambitious Axot III.

While we remain in camp and count our losses, the western kings have taken their forces and gone on their merry way to claim land from the invaders.
We dispatch a messenger and order reinforcements, and in the meantime, we have the corpses of our enemies examined.
As it turns out, these are no gizahabdaxa at all, they were just men riding horses, we never even considered the possibility, given that a non-demonic horse is too shy and stupid to even be tamed for fieldwork.
Apparently, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Equally as intriguing are the armor sets worn by the common soldiers.
They are small shidroz sheets, smaller in size even than our wooden segments, bound together by simple string; Upon closer examination it turns out there are small holes in these scale-like shidroz segments, barely big enough for a needle to fit through.
The Bolgoz who struck down many of these soldiers, tell us that they only managed to do so, by hitting their unprotected heads, or by thrusting upwards, suggesting that blades can simply slip under these scales, under the right circumstances.
Still, a worthwhile design, if we can improve upon it, after all shidroz is cheaper than wood.

A few days later our reinforcements have arrived with new supplies, and word reached us that the Ambianaz King has fallen in combat, outdone by Axot's army.

After having sent back the loot and dead to the capital, we move beyond the border and through the accounts of the survivors, manage to locate the site of battle.
Here, a better picture of Axot's strategy comes to light than during our first battle.
From the placement of the corpses, we deduce that few men died in the initial skirmish, and only after they broke, did they get truly reduced.
Here, Axot successfully managed what he could not in our encounter, encircling the enemy with his riders, though the battlefield hints at how he did it, there's simply not enough to go off of to determine what he did differently here.

On our return to the border, we are halted by Axot's army, this time having no surrounding hills to impede his formation.
We order our units into one massive frontal line, backed by four smaller formations of the same total size, in the second row.
Axot arranges his units into three major frontal units with large gaps in between them, enough to fit our small units in there, the riders are nowhere to be seen.

We advance slow and deliberately, as do they.
Our forces clash in the middle and for the time, we seem to hold steady, then the center breaks, and while we sent the second row to reinforce it, Axot's riders showed up, pouring in through the gaps in his formation and cutting our entire line in half, then they turn around and attack us from behind.
With nowhere left to go, we attempt a breakthrough at the center, sending in our Bolgoz to reinforce the area, we manage to form into a wedge at great loss and push into his formation.
We stay in the back to support the rear-guard, being decimated by enemy riders.
Unable to keep up with the pressure, his center falters and we manage to escape.

We retreat back to the Ambianaz coast, counting more than 8000 dead and 5000 wounded.

Battered and beaten, we rest for three weeks, replenishing our troops, sending the wounded home and replacing them with new soldiers.
During this time, the kings of the Kajedaz and Veliokaz return to us, with barely 6000 troops remaining, the rest have been slaughtered by Axot.
In light of Axot's horse army, we ask the kings about these charioteers they mentioned, they say that together, they have 200 horses to spare for chariots.
We humbly request they make these assets available to us, they oblige but with reluctance.

Putting what we have learned during previous campaigns and encounters with Axot to good use, we devise a new strategy, one that even our western brethren would not know, borne not from the might of an empire, but the resourcefulness of the desperate.
It is one that relies heavily on a command hierarchy, one so advanced that we do not have ourselves, however, we are capable of making up a makeshift chain of command, for the sake of the coming battle.

Axot is already on the move, and while he is coming to us
we have selected 438 veteran frontiersmen to each command a group of 50.
The western kings we give command over the flanks, while we command the center.
We drill the entire army in our new formation, while we wait for the chariots to arrive.

With the arrival of the chariots, we assign 4 more commanders from among the charioteers, each commanding 50 chariots and train them in our new ways as well.

Though our joint army numbers fewer than it did initially, we boast even greater unit diversity than before.
With the latest batch of reinforcements, came thousands of experienced Shidreskaza, who, while vulnerable to spear charges, work wonders in an already locked battle
They will work especially well, now that we have adopted their way of fighting for the army at large, a tactic that was designed around them and their synergy with other units.

Axot's army is only a day way from the gates of Samarobri, capital of the ambianaz.

We finish the drills and resupply, making our way to Samarobri
Upon our arrival, Axot is already there, sieging the city with burning erkhoz and building what appears to be a tower on wheels.
We get into formation, putting 66 groups in the first row, split into three, mimicking his formation.
The first row consists entirely of spearmen
The second row sees a group of adanykaza facing inside, toward the gap, a total of 4 groups.
The remaining groups of the second row consist of shidreskaza.
The third row is a mix of spearmen and swordsmen, again containing 4 groups of adanykaza in the same spot.
The fourth row contains western sword bolgoz, and another 4 groups of adanykaza
The fifth row is a mix of shidreskaza and our bolgoz, again containing 4 groups of adanykaza
The sixth row is a mix of all weapons, also putting 4 of its adanykaza groups in line with the others
The seventh row contains all remaining units, primarily throwers, with the exception of the chariots.
The chariots comfortably sit in the Eighth row by their lonesome, waiting to be unleashed at the critical moment.

Axot has lined up his troops in the same fashion we've seen before, and his "bungaza" as we've come to call them have ceased attacking the city, joining his formation.

Hoping to distract him again, we write up a letter full of profanity and threats and send it to him via messenger.
He appears to laugh it off and orders the messenger killed.
Well, this isn't working as we had planned.

During this time, his bungaza found the opportunity to load and unleash a volley of erkhoz.
They didn't really hit anything, we're too far away for that, but it makes advancing difficult.
Unwilling to wait, both Axot and us simply move forward, we're doing so under a hail of erkhoz however, until the formations clash.

The fight goes about as expected, but now, it's time for our trumpcard.
We have taught our troops to retreat when tired ,using the gaps in between groupings, thus making way for the rows behind them to continue the fight.
As the first row retreats and makes way for the second, Axot sends his cavalry, thinking he had broken our morale.
As they chase into the rows we have left open, their horses are cut down by the lines of adanykaza waiting for them.
The shidreskaza who are now up close and personal with their enemies, begin to tear through them.
With the whole army slowly advancing into Axot's formation, we unleash the chariots, carrying the charioteers themselves, who are bungaza, and sword bolgoz, who we have tasked with taking out the enemy bungaza.
With the chariots harassing the enemy, and the bolgoz slaughtering their way through the enemy backrow
their army breaks and scatters into an unorganized retreat.
Using the chariots, we manage to cut off the retreat of large swaths of people during the route, ending them rightly.

Though Axot managed to elude us, we receive an offer of peace a few days later.
We refused initially, to feign strength.
When he sued for peace again, offering us tribute, we accepted.

The War is over, the lands of our new confederates have been devastated and depopulated. Our population took a substantial hit as well, thousands of peasants dead, or unable to work ever again, we can expect several famines to come in some parts of the empire.
But for now, we stand victorious.

We hail the Eleventh Summer week's First in Loiur's 184th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

To make up for the losses of our allies, we renew our colonization efforts, both in ürallux and in the now depopulated west.
We have also begun trading for food with the natives, who in light of our recent increase in food consumption, have adopted more sedentary lifestyles, to accommodate their food exports.
The Tamaz especially have taken it upon themselves to expand to work more land.

We greet the Twelfth Summer week's Middle in Loiur's 184th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

While Axot continues to send Geldoz refugees our way, we are learning how to ride a horse.
Though we find it harder to get the horse to trust us enough to ride them in the first place, mountain and staying on top of them is no small feat either.
Since we are not versed in the arts thereof, several volunteers and ourselves have begun experimenting with ways to make mounting and riding easier.
Many solutions were presented, but two truly stuck out, enough for us to make them doctrine.
Chairs and Carpets.
The ideas are quite simple, but extremely effective.
Folding chairs are a relatively common thing, and can easily be manufactured in bulk, though instead of sitting on them, riders will use them as steps, it's as simple as it is brilliant.
Having a carpet on the horse's back to sit on, also makes riding them much more comfortable, it is still difficult, however attaining the skill and strength to ride a horse, now seems much more doable than without.

It will take years, decades even, until we have a horse army that is remotely as competent as Axot's, but now we have a fighting chance.

We welcome the Nineteenth Summer week's Last in Loiur's 184th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Many soldiers who have been grievously wounded in battle, have made a recovery, despite the severity of their wounds.
The reason for this, appears to be the healing properties of bezgydlig, a most unexpected use for the stuff, but a welcome discovery.

In light of the massive stream of Geldoz seeking refuge from Axot's cleansing, we have decided to address the issue.
Though we are far from the only destination, other, larger, geldoz tribes have received a similar influx.
These migrations, driven by a desperation, have already caused well over a dozen wars, and some reports even suggest that a few tribes have left this part of the world entirely, vanishing beyond the mighty Bendi Duguva*, never to be heard from again.
Most people don't want these demons in their midst, but to deny all of them is a logistical nightmare, we have to live with the fact that some are gonna sneak in one way or another, the question is how we are going to deal with them once they're here.

We hail the Third Autumn week's Fourth in Loiur's 184th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Though we allow the geldoz to come here, they must live in accordance to our laws, first and foremost of which, is the recording of their names, ages and occupations.
All geldoz under the age of 15 must attend a nearby school, no matter what the parents might say about this.
We expect there to be resistance, given the nature of these muxandaz, the response to which, will be the death of the parents and the adoption of their children into ytsexalluxa families.
Should a child be 12 years of age or older, they will not be adopted by a family, but by the state and educated well into adulthood, until the age of 20, as to discourage rebellious thought.
Further, state-adoptees will be settled around Ongizaz communities, where any crime committed falls under jurisdiction of the Ongizonnid.

These measures are to ensure the actual integration of the geldoz into civilized society and discourage further immigration.

We greet the Eighth Autumn week's Second in Loiur's 184th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After the war, we have found little time to truly reflect on all the advances it has made possible for us, but one of them has been present in the back of our mind before it already, the question of leading troops.
It's true that with some quick thinking, we can relay messages to the entire army in just a few moments, drastically shifting the course of battle, but we are just one man, and the logistics required to maintain the cohesion of an army is too much to bear for a single mind.
This is why we have been so hesitant to fully implement peasant battle tactics, even though we learned them faithfully from our dearest Ovini.
The makeshift commands we have given out during the final battle, have proven to us how crucial independent thought is for an army.
Like a body, we as the final authority on everything, are the head, controlling every limb deliberately.
But there is more than deliberate action present in a body, sometimes a body may act on reflex alone, an instinct embedded deep within the muscles, to ensure the survival of its owner.
Just as reflexes exist in a real body, so they must exist in an army, as such we formalize the peasant battle formation and draft up a recruitment program, one that seeks to employ quick-witted and warlike people permanently, to command the individual groups that will henceforth make up the army.
For the first time, we will give our army...reflexes.
As such, we will call these people xablilepaz

We hail the Second Winter week's Middle in Loiur's 187th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

More than two years after we first implemented shidroz-based armor, we can finally say that there is enough to equip....barely 1000 people.
This is quite underwhelming, considering how cheap shidroz is, it shouldn't take this long, right?....right?
We have learned a valuable lesson in these two years, that price does not equate ease of production.
It's true that shidroz is cheap and producing products made thereof, is usually easier than anything wooden, but now that we have issued something as complex as armor made thereof, it has become abundantly clear that despite its high cost, wooden armor is still far easier and faster to manufacture than shidroz armor, even after adopting the fish-skin style of Axot's army.

Though we're not giving up on shidroz just yet, for the time being, we're better off just adapting our current armors to the same design.

In the mean time, we are considering holding the first election this year, now that Ovino is of age.
We don't doubt the abilities of Udenedi, but she doesn't strike us as ashgiz material.

We welcome the Second Winter week's Fourth in Loiur's 187th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Today we hold the very first election in our history, as per the popular mandate.
Many famous and beloved characters show up, wanting to be our heir
Goxdesh - our head of guard and currently reigning Ongizonnid, chief of the Ongizaz dynasty.
Ninjano - patriarch of the Muxandazaz family
Ydel - patriarch of the Aitlazaz family
Glasonnido - heir to the Mag Garasaf fortune.
Iza Hur Borgari - a witch famed for her healing abilities
and
Kazazako "three leg" Mag Durigaz - a supremely handsome former prince of the Durigzoz
among others

The Bilidemag has judged, in front of all the people of Izahorejan and those who came to observe the spectacle, that of all candidates
only 7 were worthy, not including our beloved son Ovino.
Now, it is our turn to judge, as we attend the Alluxilid.

Here, there appears to be no consensus, everyone has some complaint about the candidates.
Goxdesh is too old
Ninjano is too faithless
Ydel is too narrow minded
Glasonnido is too immoral
Iza is too inexperienced
Kazazako is too weak of character
and Udenedi is too you-
wait, what's Udenedi doing here?
how did she pass but her brother didn't?
I uh...I'm at a loss for words honestly
ooooh, I get it, she's trying to prove something here, alright, fine

As long as it's not her, I'll agree to anything the council decides on.

[are you a Tie? well, I didn't vote for you]
The council has decided on Ninjano, a relative of ours. We agree to their judgement and proceed into the vow phase.
Ydel and Kazazako refuse to play second flute to Ninjano and make the vow to never participate in the vote again.
Same goes for Goxdesh, who only did it by popular demand.
Glasonnido, Iza, and to our dismay, Udenedi, remain in contact and vow to replace the Heir should they face an untimely death.

We welcome the Second Winter week's Fourth in Loiur's 187th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Ninjano at the age of 39 has become our official Ahunnid
a great celebration is taking place on the streets, the people cheer as for the first time anywhere, their voice has truly been heard.
Many are looking forward to the next one, but for most, this will be a once-a-lifetime event.

We hail the Fourth Autumn week's Second in Loiur's 187th Birthyear

The advent of scale armor has shown to us, that our spears are woefully inadequate for the future of warfare, as such, many who have a stake in the continued existence of the empire, have built approximations of scale armor at home as dummies, playing around with different shapes and sizes of spears.
Tens, if the weekly reports are to be believed, possibly even hundreds, of thousands are trying their hand at this endeavour.
It is perhaps, the greatest scientific effort we as a united people, have ever undertaken.

As such, in less than a year, we have discovered the essential truth of the spear, the fundamental principle by which all spears henceforth shall be designed:
"NU SHAZEX LUZI ZOXO RUNIDA"
"Longer blades stab further"

Birthing this philosophy is a new type of spear that has been independently developed at least a dozen times across the realm, which is commonly referred to as Igisk* a long, triangular design, almost double the length of our previous tips, and much, much narrower.
With this, so we are told, one can penetrate scale so fiercely, that they simply break apart.

We welcome the Tenth Spring week's First in Loiur's 190th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Over the years, the demand for shidroz has drastically increased in the empire, so much so that blacksmiths were unable to meet the demand and still provide good enough quality.
This has changed at the end of last season, when Ahuldaxo Hur Ürexe managed to stoke a fire hotter than anything before it, and doing so consistently.
At first, he says, he merely put a handle on his bellows to turn, as to not having to pump each individually.
When he had a brilliant idea, to strap his handle to a waterwheel on the nearby stream, making the bellows work perpetually and at a steady pace.
Not only has this increased his production of shidroz, but also bettered its quality, as this higher temperature allows shidroz to fully melt, giving Ahuldaxo the opportunity to remove impurities more efficiently.

Though we have only struck a production contract with him years ago, the money we gave subsidized him with, went into a most ambitious project, the construction of his own Zogenxu.
As of today, it is fully operational, and hopefully will be able to meet our growing demand for shidroz in the future.

We greet the Sixteenth Summer week's First in Loiur's 190th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Bung and Erkho were quite devastating to our troops in the last war, able to do what our elite throwers achieve with years of training.
Though they don't do it as well, the sheer number of them made up for their lack of penetration and precision.
Through consultation with our western confederates, we were able to engineer our very own Bungaz, they are relatively big branches of Ahahyt* worked into a simple arch, about 3/5 Loiur in length, then strung with Lyn string, about half as thick as a woman's little finger.
For the time being our Erkhoz are simply downsized Igiskaz with three fins made of slightly thicker Guzbehe.

Our throwers have also received a new weapon, specialized in dealing with armored targets.
A spear lovingly dubbed Axotdu**, which might as well just be a very thin sword, shafted onto a staff thinning out toward the bottom end, where chicken feathers make up the fins.

We hail the Seventh Autumn week's Middle in Loiur's 190th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

While weapons with longer staves have been in development since the end of the war, there was always the issue of shape and reliability.
We have tried putting a simple spearhead on a 2 Loiur long staff, but it was impossible to tell where the blade was pointing, making it unreliable in combat.
This was not to mention that the simple spear tip is too small to be used effectively against a mounted opponent, and enlarging it either resulted in the weapon being too heavy or the blade losing its ability to thrust.
We therefore decided to compromise and remove the tip entirely, leaving only the cutting edge, turning the simple spear from a bulbous leaf shape into a sleek leaf shape.
This elongated shape is easier to scale up without compromising the weapon.
However, the issue of edge alignment persisted, which was solved by a fluke, when a delivery of beams was made to the palace, rather than staves.
Cutting down the beams to the thickness of a staff, proved to be the breakthrough we needed.
A square staff, 1 3/5 Loiur in length, tipped with the new Luzhiri blade, yields a weapon long enough to fight cavalry from a distance, without endangering oneself, though the weapon is quite uncomfortable to wield due to its shape, it fulfills its purpose.

We greet the Fifth Winter week's First in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Word has reached us of Axot's army subjugating another geldoz tribe and having made peace with a mighty new confederation just south of our borders.
Knowing that we will eventually have to fight his army again, the ongizaz have tinkered around with reconstructing that wheeled tower they witnessed in the battle for Samarobri, so that should we go on the offensive, we will be able to lay siege to his cities ourselves.
Though it's not an exact match, obviously, it helps us understand just what this thing actually is, it's a ladder, an armored ladder to be precise.
One that protects the attacker, us, from being subjugated to projectiles while approaching the walls of a city.
Of course, knowing what these Koshaluzroraz are now, we must develop adequate defensive measures against them.
For the time being however, this will do.

While the resources of our government have been put toward developing greater offensive tools, the soldiers themselves have spent a lot of their time perfecting their war crowns.
Our battles have shown them, that this type of head armor is woefully inadequate for civilized warfare.

In order to eliminate these shortcomings, the people have developed a new war crown, a wooden bowl that covers the ears and neck without clacking additions to the crown, but as an inherent part of the bowl shape.
It also inherently protects the forehead, with
two rigid plates added onto the bowl at nose height, to protect the cheeks.
leaving a vaguely S-shaped hole for the eyes, mouth and nose.

We adopt these new crowns and, in order to distinguish command in battle, xablilepaz receive glas-dyed chicken feathers on top of their crowns, whereas the leader of an army, which might not be us in every circumstance, receives udgo-dyed chicken feathers to the sides of their crown.

We welcome the Ninth Winter week's Fourth in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Since their formation seven years ago the Belgez have been a thorn in our side, hindering our recovery from the war through constant border raids and skirmishes.
Though the Remaz tell us that the Belgez appear hostile to everyone, even their neighboring Geldoz, we are convinced they have it out for the empire in particular.

With Axot having ceased to pay his annual tribute before the deadline, we know that war is coming, and cannot afford the Belgez to stab us in the back, we have to neutralize this threat somehow.

On the one hand, we could try it diplomatically once again, Belrig isn't stupid, he knows that we are his best bet against Axot's overwhelming might.
On the other hand, we could bring our army to bear on them, if we're unlucky this could lead to an all-out war, giving Axot the opportunity to ally with them.
Alternatively, we can try to convince them to just keep it down for a while, if necessary we can offer them money.
Regardless of what we do, we don't want them where they are right now.

We hail the Ninth Winter week's Last in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

A diplomatic mission has been dispatched to Nemetozen, capital of the Belgez, in hopes of Belrig seeing reason in non-aggression.
In the meantime, we begin mobilizing for war, finding and equipping recruits with new gadgets takes time, and we don't want to be caught off-guard.
We bring our army over to the western frontier in small quantities, only 100 at a time, as to not rouse suspicion from either Axot or Belrig.

We greet the Tenth winter week's Last in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Peace talks are going well, Belrig has declared his neutrality in the upcoming conflict, but insists on compensation for his "generosity"
We don't have a whole lot to offer, other than turning a blind eye at Belgeza expansion at the expense of other, smaller tribes, who have traditionally provided a buffer between us and larger, fiercer geldoz tribes.

Neither this, nor paying tribute are particularly pleasant considerations to make.

We welcome the Thirteenth Winter week's First in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After we agreed to his terms, Belrig sent back word with his approval of our crossing through his lands and that of the menapaz.
He ensures safe passage through those territories, not however the other tribes.
Tempting as his offer might be, we refuse.

We hail the First Spring week's First in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Campaigning season has begun, scouts report that Axot has already crossed into our border the day before yesterday, unbeknownst to him however, we have already completely mobilized and deployed our armies.

Fielding over 100 000 men of which are
3800 Tamaz
5200 Veliokaz
8000 Kajedaz
12300 Ambianaz
29000 Remaz
and 42000 of our own
Despite these impressive numbers, we hold yet another 10000 in reserve, and an additional 28000 we can call upon for service, and should we ever be so desperate as to invoke the draft, drawing every able bodied man of legal age to the field, we could look at another 400 000.
But this is just speculation, we'll never have to field this many men.

We divide our forces into three main armies.
The Confederation Army
consisting of Tamaz, Veliokaz, Ambianaz, Kajedaz and Ongizaz, lead by Goxdesh

The Allied Army
Consisting of Remaz and 900 Remanallux born frontiersmen, lead by Ninjano

finally, the Dusk Army
consisting of all remaining troops, exclusively our own men, lead by ourselves.

One army must secure the lands of the Kajedaz

We take the south, while we send Ninjano north and Goxdesh to the center
The whereabouts of Axot's army are unknown, so either of us could run into him.

As we approach the area around the border, no enemy army is in sight, only a small scouting party across the Zakvana.

We cross over to intimidate them and follow them fast enough to make them believe we are in pursuit but so slow that they can escape.
We do this until they have gone completely out of sight, after which we turn back and rest until morning.

As the new day dawns, we prepare to leave, no matter what however, we cannot go in the same direction those scouts went, we do not want to confront an army that's prepared for our arrival.

We can either attack into his countryside, try to disrupt his supply lines, return to our defensive position, or try to find the other armies, one of whom is no doubt already embroiled in combat.

We take our forces back into our borders and march down a circular route to the northern part of veliokallux, where we, against our expectations, don't find Axot.
Instead we find the Confederation Army, completely intact.
This does not bode well
We ask whether they have seen anything suspicious, but only report sightings of scouts coming from the north, the same as we have.
It dawns on us that we might already be too late, so we make haste to kajedallux to try and reinforce the Allied Army.

Upon our arrival, we find the battle has already concluded, the Allied army is in tatters and Axot's forces are still nowhere to be seen.
Ninjano is thankfully still alive, but bears horrific news.
Axot is on his way to Samarobri

Seeing ourselves unable to meet Axot on equal grounds, we decide to go back and join up with Goxdesh to bolster our numbers and face the enemy with superior numbers.

When we arrive back in Veliokallux, the Confederation Army is nowhere to be seen, our scouts can't locate them.
Unable to link up with them, we make our way for Samarobri to hopefully lift the siege that is likely taking place right now.

We rush back, but in the time it took us, they have already taken the city.
There appears to be no sign of siege towers anywhere, however the gates of the city have been breached by something.
What's worse is that we came to the aftermath of a battle, in the midst of which we find the remains of Goxdesh, who has had his manhood removed, along with most of the rest of the dead.
The remnants of the Confederation Army are nowhere to be seen either, but we suspect them near the coast.

A young ongizo called Zunoxan has taken control of the army after Goxdesh's death and prevented their complete destruction.
Though many are wounded and some even disfigured, Zunoxan assures that the men we see before us, are all capable and willing to continue fighting.
We look around as he talks and spot a pile of bodies at the very back of their camp.
Everyone who was not willing to continue, he says, is already gone.
It's quite apparent what happened here, but we can put him on trial after the war.
Zunoxan's men seem quite eager to join the next fight, we wonder what's going on inside their heads.

While we decide on a course of action, the Dusk Army continues to treat the wounds of the Confederation Army's remnants, while there is still time.

Scouts report that Braduspan has fallen to Axot, this is alarming news, but also fortunate.
Braduspan is a major city of the Belgez and former capital of the Beliovakaz
this means, that Axot has made himself a new enemy.

Hearing the news of Axot's attack on the Belgez, we immediately dispatch a messenger to offer our support to king Belrig.
After a few weeks we have lost hope that any answer would arrive at all, but no reply would have been preferable to what we received.
Belrig has been defeated and killed, his confederation shattered, along with reports of Nerfaz attacks on Remaz territories.

On the bright side, Ninjano sent back word from the far west, he has successfully joined forces with a rebel army who are guiding him toward the Night's capital.

Scouts report a Morinaz army marching on Samarobri, who apparently have not pillaged a single Ambianaz village on the way there.

Just what in the world is going on
what are we supposed to do?

We go to meet the Morinaz at Samarobri, expecting the worst.
To our surprise, we find them attacking the city.
After exchanging messages, we meet their commander face to face, a boy named Karadak, who claims to be King of the Morinaz.
As a true believer in the cause of the Belgez, he proclaims eternal enmity with Axot and wants to lend us his aid.
Not quite sure whether to believe him, we accept his support with grace.

While we retake the city, Karadak shares with us his information on Axot's armies, apparently there's more than the one we've been failing to hunt.
Though he doesn't know the exact numbers, Karadak assumes Axot's four other armies combined have the same strength as his primary force, as he originally attacked the confederation with two armies.

Speaking of, the demon king himself has arrived, well almost.
Karadak's scouts tell us that Axot is on his way here and only two days away.

Persuading Karadak to follow our lead, we start cutting trees and building a makeshift palisade around our camp.
In order to make some room for all of our troops, we also deconstruct the camp on the dawn of the second day, just in time for Axot's arrival.

Three of his supposed five armies have formed up behind the camp, putting us between them and the city.
He begins his attack with a hail of erkhoz, we retaliate immediately, something he seemingly did not expect, causing his main army to back off before continuing their attack.
This time, they are too far, we cannot hit them reliably, but neither can they.

With plenty of erkhoz wasted, both of our armies cease their fruitless attacks from afar, and brace for melee combat.
Axot attacks our palisades with great ferocity, leaving his men wide open to our attacks.
Having only fought our confederates previously, he likely never made contact with our new weapons.
The Igiskaz tear through his troops like butter, as he calls off his attack, we begin to leave our position.

Zunoxan, who longed for this moment, charged out in a fury, with his army of cripples in tow.
Putting any bolgo to shame, they crash into the army on his left flank and send them running.
While Axot is reinforcing his dwindling left, we send Karadak to attack his right, while going for his main force ourselves.

A cavalry charge coming from the city hits us from behind, dealing significant damage to our army, but are ultimately destroyed by Luzhirizaz
That child of an oru, he planned this from the start.

Despite these casualties, we press, but his forces are holding strong, even as they are felled like trees in a storm.
However, he cannot hold out forever, his flanks are collapsing and our armies are beginning to encircle him.

He retreats, but we pursue
Unexpectedly though, he turns around, in a formation we've never seen before, attempting to break through our center.
Despite this, we are privy to this trick, having attempted it against him ourselves.
We split the army in half, sending one half to pursue his vanguard, while the other attacks him from the rear.
Now he is encircled once more, unable to escape.
On this day, Axot drew his last breath.

We are victorious, but the war is not yet over.

While we send the Confederation Army to relief the Remaz, Karadak and the Morinaz return home, and we make our way westward.
Thanks to rebel guides, we were able to locate the capital in time to participate in the siege.

Ninjano tells us that the defenders are surprisingly resilient, they have tried to storm the city with ladders several times, but it didn't work.
He would have tried a siege tower, but his troops don't know how to build one.
This is a reminder that not all innovations of the empire, reach our confederates immediately, not even one as close as the Remaz.

We begin the construction of two siege towers, which within a week's time, have been completed.
Ninjano's troops are awestruck.
With a coordinated assault, ladders and towers at the same time, we overwhelm the defenders and throw open the gates, making way for the rest of our armies to enter.

It is an incredible sight, a city full of towers
most are short and wide, bearing proportions not unlike our houses, but where ours are spherical like a woman's chest, these are four-sided triangles that partially hangs over the tower itself, bizarre chimneys attached to their sides, that seem to have three different exit holes.
Many of these towers are connected at middle-height with one another, through small, bridging arches that would allow two children, or a very muscular man, to cross from one building to another.

More sparsely we see thin, mushroom shaped towers, with a spiral staircase going up, topped by a half-sphere, that when observed directly from below, appears hollow.
Judging by their location and just how far above the roof tops they rise, these must be Ejugaz towers.

Most curiously, we also find towers with stages, like a tower atop a tower atop another tower.
These stages are rather broad, but diminishing in size the further up you go, and house shopping stalls all over them.
While the temples at least look more traditional, they too are adorned with ornate spiral towers, unlike those of the Ejugaz, these do not have a staircase going up on the outside that gives them the spiral shape, but rather, the bricks themselves are arranged spirally. While impressive, this also looks very unsafe.

The palace, as one might expect, is a mess of towers. It looks like it is in much better condition than the rest of the city, leading us to believe that it was built in the image of the city, rather than the other way around.
It features the same kind of towers that people live in, but thinner, not enough for several families, perhaps one family for the entire tower, eight of them in number.
These are connected via bridges, however, these are three-way arches, connecting the towers and leading to the foot of the roof.
The roof is a bizarre construct, it is a long two-sided triangle, like the homes of the muxandaz, but it does not sit on the building itself, rather it is several loiur removed from it...

...standing on solid brick stilts.
Underneath this strange roof is mounted a wooden grid, stable enough to not only allow several people to walk on them, but to house an entire garden, out in the open, yet under a roof.
The main building of the palace, appears a large rectangle, not unlike our own, it too houses a garden, but on top of it rather than hanging underneath.
There is even a staircase leading from the roof garden to the ceiling garden.
Against our expectations however, the lower of the two appears publicly accessible, whereas the other one has a trap door, presumably lockable, at the top of the staircase.
One does not even have to enter the palace to visit the lower garden, for one can simply walk up one of the six ramparts, sitting in between the towers.
The inside however, mimics our own.

While we cannot prevent our troops from looting this beautiful city, which we learn is called Loiuri, we can stop them from attacking the population therein, by appealing to their sense of honor, and castrating all who dare go against our orders.

We have Axot's successor, Axot IV sign a peace treaty that forbids his army from ever fielding cavalry again. Should this treaty ever be broken, he will give us legal cause to conquer his kingdom.
This marks the end of the war.

We return home after a long and costly campaign.
