The King has returned to the throne, now a grizzled warrior with an unhealthy addiction to physical pain.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Among the rumors spreading through the Empire, there's more than just hearsay or some abstracted deed of our Heroism.
On the contrary, sometimes there's even a kernel of truth buried underneath, and today we have been informed of one such.

Apparently during Byodesh's regency he encountered a foreign Kingdom much like ours, ruled by a living ancestor.
It was said that Axot - Son of Loiur - was leading a ragtag band of civilized muxandaz under his banner, terrorizing the Geldoz.
If this is true, we must contact Axot to forge an alliance, or at the very least, affirm him not to be hostile.
Though it would bring us great pleasure if he were, our people would take offense to this, we're sure.

While we take care of the more menial businesses of a King, we will have the time to deliberate upon how to proceed with this expedition.
We know he's somewhere in the west.

Lara, Bedexamo, Vola 139
We raise a small army of one thousand and equip them with a generous amount of arms and provisions, along with a Wiseman as our representative, protected by a handful of Guardsmen.
They are to find the western kingdom and if possible attain a map of the area.
We grant them permission to conduct diplomacy in our name so that they may navigate the patchwork of muxandaz tribes to our west.
Additionally we grant them permission to liberally apply force, should they deem it necessary for the success of their mission.

Bixa, Baxo, Zendaga
We wave off the expedition and return to our duties.

Our people have been building fortifications against floods for centuries, they are integral to our society. Legends say that Aitlaz's first act upon this earth was to build a Duguva.
Some go as far as claiming that Aitlaz was born from the rock of the first Bendi, which separated the sea from the land, and was hence dubbed Duguva by the ancestors.

To say Duguvaz are important would be a grave understatement.
It comes as no surprise to us then, that in the frontiers, where civilization struggles to persist, Duguvaz have become larger and larger, to the point where they not only encompass a single household, but entire settlements.

These massive duguvaz are a marvel of engineering, considering that simple peasants built them from the humblest of materials.
If we were to reverse engineer them and use the more sophisticated materials and techniques available to us in the heartland, we might be able to construct duguvaz so gargantuan, that they could not merely lessen the effects of floods, but stop them entirely.

The expedition has returned with fruitful results.
It appears that Axot himself has died, but his kingdom persists, ruled by his Grandson Axot II.
Axot, much less ambivalent to us than his Grandfather had been, provided us with information regarding the migrations of several tribes from our sphere.
Among them a minor tribes such as the Regz and Gandiz, fleeing from the oppression of the Morinz and Veliokaz respectively.
There's also the curious case of the Pariz, a minor tribe that left the Ambianz confederacy and formed its own with multiple lesser geldoz tribes instead.
The Dumnonz are perhaps the greatest threat in Ürallux yet, as they represent a major Geldoz tribe, Axot tells us that his grandfather is responsible for their migration.
Upon his conquest he banished several geldoz tribes from his newly established realm, thinking that they'd simply merge into the remaining geldoz.
However, they formed the Dumnon confederacy instead and left for Ürallux.
Lastly are the Drinobantez, a tribe that we have technically made contact with before.
As a sign of changing times, these people are no true confederacy, instead they are the native tribe of the Drinoz having willingly merged themselves into a significantly smaller and inferior tribe from the mainland, called the Bantez, who broke off from the Menapaz.

While we update our maps, we have also ordered 6000 troops be mobilized, recent aggressions of the Dourigzoz has forced our hand to declare war.
We wager that conquering them might improve our standing with the Menapaz, who have long refused to join the great confederation.
Only time will tell how our neighbors will react to this.

Heading the armies ourselves, we march into Dourigzoz territory
on Lara, Amo, Ezza 140, we crossed the border.

One should not judge this as some glorious conquest, it isn't.
What it is, is our gentle hand, reaching out to teach them.
For too long have the Dourigzoz lived in harmony with nature, they have forgotten the cruelties of life.

To return a sense of reality to them, we have elected to take their armies head-on, remind them what suffering is.

Now the question is just, where are they?

Not to let the enemy get the jump on us, we wait for our scouts to return and brief us on their movement.
Upon their arrival, we are informed that 3 enemy armies are converging near the town of Obossenbrynni, the eastern capital of the dourigzoz.
We decide it the best course of action to attack them before they manage to form up to minimize casualties.

We head north, straight for Obossenbrynni, leaving the enemy no time to react to our movement.
Outside the city walls, we form up and attack the defending army of 4000, while their reinforcements are still hours away.

We stand victorious and await the arrival of the remaining 8000.
Due to some mistake on the dourigzoz side, one half of their reinforcement has arrived much earlier than the other and attacks us.
Now with the advantage of a defensive position, we rout them in time for their friends to witness our victory, forcing them to retreat.

After a short attack on the city, Obossenbrynni is ours, driving the eastern king further north.

We set up camp at Obossenbrynni and make it the provisional capital for the campaign.
Every scrap of land we take is recorded and accounted for here.
In the meantime, we make sure to reward collaboration in the city, while also bringing in settlers to dislodge the local peasantry.

A season into the occupation and word has reached us of a new dourigzoz army, this time united.
14000 are making their way to retake Obossenbrynni and are fast approaching.

We built an additional palisade around the city, stock up on missiles to throw, and take up a defensive position.
These muxandaz barely outnumber us 2:1, they can't dislodge us from the city.

Within a few hours, the army has arrived, undisciplined as they are, they attempt to storm the city, only to find the gate barred.
The hail of missiles we rain upon them has killed thousands.
Before they realize their mistake, we sortie and hit them with the full weight of our army.
It is a crushing defeat for the dourigzoz
after a day of counting, we stand before a most impressive feat.
8000 enemies killed before the rout.
We didn't bother to chase them down and elected to keep holding the city.

Eventually, the western king approaches us and sues for peace, the eastern king is nowhere to be seen, we are told he has committed suicide, turning the dual-kingdom into a regular tribe.

We accept and lay down our conditions.
Full recognition of the Ashgizo as his sovereign.
Full integration into the Boxdony legal system.
Military autonomy for Boxdony settlers
Complete relinquishing of settling rights within confederation borders.
and lastly
The King's right eye.

He looks terrified, he was fine with it up until we demanded his sight.
Now he wants to back out, but we remind the duty of a king lies with the welfare of his people, if he fails to do so, we will be far less generous the next time around.

We give him an ultimatum, his eye, or his life.
He falls to his knees and lets us carve out his right eye.
With this, the contract is made, peace has returned, and the dourigzoz, now merely the menapaz kingdom, have been brought into the fold.

King Brenno "cat's tail" Mag Dourigz moves his capital to Obossenbrynni after the war, maintaining the fortifications we built there.

Bada, Ezido, Zendaga 142
Now that peace has settled in again, the issue of unruly menapaz has arisen.
Our vassal Brenno insists that he has nothing to do with the unrest in his country, but it is evident that who ever is responsible for it, plans to reinstate him as an independent Onido, something we cannot permit.

To ease our efforts in suppressing these rebels, we order a vast extension of the road network.
First and foremost, a connection between the capital and Obossenbrynni must be established, afterward a connection between it and every known settlement in Menapallux.
Connections between them and other settlements in the empire wouldn't hurt either, but they are on the bottom of our priorities.

The construction begins on Bixa, Ezido

immediately we are reminded of the troubles of our ancestors, extensive swamps, intraversable marshes, treacherous moors, seasonal floods and untamed forests, all blocking our path.

Though it takes the longest, we are of the opinion that the best course of action is to simply remove several small sections of swamp to make room for our roads.

starting out small, the path along the road-to-be is diked up with large, svestolis-plastered arize blocks, to prevent water damage
shortly thereafter, using paddle-tubes, the water is pumped out of the sectioned-off areas and back into the remainder of the swamp, leaving a dry path behind.
On this path then, we construct a much more solid road than in ages past.
Starting with a foundation of gravel, we then pile smashed arize on top of it and then lay large arize blocks for the ultimate layer.
The remaining gaps are filled with sand and plastered with a thin coat of svestolis.

This should prevent the road from falling apart in case the duguvaz break.

The construction of the primary road leading from Aitlazaderbe to Obossenbrynni is completed on the Last of the Half of Winter, in the year 144 of Loiur's Essence.

From here on, the question is, do we cut back on expenses or not?

Bixa, Amo, Vola 144
Despite the immense cost to build and especially maintain such a network, we believe it yields greater long-term benefits than it could possibly drain resources, and as such continue our project.

With the road to Obossenbrynni complete, Brenno receives our blessing to continue his rule, this time, in our name.

Iga, Amo
We return home for a brief period of respite, just to learn that our beloved has given birth once more.
Now with 4 children to call our own, we are content to leave it at that.

Lara, Amo
We scrape together a few learned men while we are still here, to give our eldest - Benjonnido - a quality education, as a birthday present.

Orza, Amo
We leave to oversee our great road project.
It is quite tedious to overhaul the entire empire's network, especially given the extend thereof.
But that is not all, many places are lacking roads entirely, due to royal neglect.
Others have refused connection to the network, not wanting to be found by common folk, for one reason or another, often times nefarious.
Especially the frontiers suffers from a lack of connectivity, which makes rebel cells possible in the first place, were it not for us, they could have started a war already.
The colonies are an issue as well, though they make do with boat travel, we fear that may not be sufficient to sustain a proper administration in the region.
Similarly, our confederates have no direct connection to us other than downstream shipping, which is grossly insufficient for military organization.

This entire empire is hanging by a thread, we feel, all the more reason to do what we must.
We can budget this somehow without losing out on quality, we're sure.

Though it should by no means have taken this long had we done it all at once, our imperial budget simply would not allow for it.
To construct the roads without any deficits piling up and possibly ruining our economy, it was vital for us to delay extensions for as long as possible, while building said extensions quickly.
Such tactics ensured that we could earn the money to build these roads, before going out and spending it.

In the off days between construction, we pamper Benjonnido, in a way deserving of a prince and see to it that his interests and talents are not only met, but encouraged.
At the same time, we discourage misbehaviour by withholding rewards, luxuries, toys and if the situation calls for it, even basic necessities, we do however, never resort to corporal punishment.

Benjonnido in this time, has crystallized an investment in Art, his primary interest
though his talents clearly lie elsewhere, we have yet to uncover them.

At sundown of Iga, Orzamo, Arda 153 we have finally completed the new roads, leading to even the remotest corners of the empire, including those of our confederates and colonies.
