After respected older brother welcomed me properly, he invited me on a tour of the beach side. Apparently, he wishes to start a 'tourism' industry, which would cater to travelers of means looking for beautiful and comfortable locations to enjoy an extended rest period that he describes as a 'vacation'. Apparently, this would apply the most to students, as it is common for universities to cease lectures for a month in order to prepare new lessons, in what is apparently called a 'summer break'.

I must confess as to some confusion on this point, since I was of the impression that a student should take this time as a chance to review on her lessons, but respected older brother assures me that a complete rest is necessary as well. I believe I will not inform mother about this idea.

As for the main attractions of this 'summer break', respected older brother refers to the extensive beaches in the march. It has been quite a while, but I still had the soft and flexible outdoor bathing outfit referred to as a 'swimsuit' that respected older brother gifted to me some time ago, albeit I must confess to have been more than a little nervous to wear a single layer of clothing in a public space, and am quite certain that some of the passing pedestrians were similarly affected by the sight.

It may just be my lack of maturity, but I cannot help but feel that this 'swimsuit', despite carrying its purpose on its name, is not a proper outdoor outfit while in the presence of non family members, though I do suppose that it is a matter of perception. If several dozen people wear similar outfits together, then it ceased to be an oddity and is more of a common event. I think.

Brother's slave helped me apply 'sunscreen lotion' in order to 'protect my skin from the sun'. It is a fruit-scented product that respected older brother created for this specific purpose, although I must admit to have been somewhat confused by the whole idea. Would a larger swimsuit be convenient, then? Albeit, once we entered into the water so respected older brother could teach me to swim (a rather exciting event), I realized that as cloth gets wet, it grows heavy on the wearer. Now I wish my swimsuit was a little smaller... but maybe only a little.

At this point, I was actually enjoying myself quite a bit. There is a big difference between having high stats and actually using one's own body, after all. Thankfully, I seem to have built-in buoyancy, a convenient trait!

Respected older brother says that I 'won the gene lotto', but this, I do not understand. Also, it seems that swimming is easier in salt-rich water due to a difference in density, which respected older brother explained as the degree of compactness of a substance. Because the ground is so dense, we 'float' on top of it. Saltwater is less dense, so it floats atop the ground, and we are less dense than saltwater so we float on top of it.

It seems strange, then, that people somehow manage to drown, until you consider, again, the added weight of wet clothes. I wonder if it would be possible to mix sunscreen lotion with a low-density substance in order to create an 'easy swim' oil. I will have to look into it after our current laboratory project is done with.

And so, after I was good enough a 'swimmer', respected older brother and I used a [Cleanse] spell to remove the salt water from ourselves before heading to the docks. He says there will be a need for open showers, so those who cannot use [Cleanse] spells can wash off the salt water once they are done on the beach, but I must confess, dear Earnest, that the idea of washing in plain sight seems impossibly shameless, but I suppose that there is not much point since you would have just finished swimming in public, anyway.

I thought we would head straight to the docks, but brother's slave insisted I should dress back up because, and I quote “the sight of the young lady's swimsuit figure would stir endless trouble with sailors and stevedores alike,” which makes me think sailors must be a very sensitive and traditional, easily offended people.

As such, she assisted me with donning my dress once more before we headed to the docks, where respected older brother had his personal rockitship at the ready. As the local workers did indeed direct quite a few looks in my direction, I must conclude that indeed, sailors are a very traditional and easily offended sort.

Sailing is indeed quite fun! I expected us to take off, but the rockitship was firstly, a ship, so we merely sailed on the sea for the rest of the morning, and respected older brother allowed me to steer the ship, too! I can see how it is an activity that would become vastly popular among ship owners, and I believe investing in respected older brother's idea of a 'yatch shipyard' could be sound advice.

Upon returning to the docks, we went out for lunch...

Sailing is indeed quite fun! Knowing that you are the one making the ship moves feels... it is the knowledge that you are in charge. I do imagine, however, that novices should have an actual expert with them, so I do not think I will try it on my own any time soon.

I do want to try it again, however. As I am planning on assisting to your local university in the near future, I hope there will be a chance for us to sail together. As you live in an island city, are you well acquainted with sailing? Do we need to hire a captain? Rockitships are quite expensive, but the idea of buying the one ship and being able to move around anywhere on it sounds quite liberating, so perhaps I will save some money and buy a small one. One that can also be used to sail normally, of course.

Once we returned to port, respected older brother called for a coach and took us to a restaurant on the eastern side of town, overseeing the swamp land. I expected the swamp to be an ugly, smelly place, but the very fact that there was a panoramic restaurant should hint that it was really not. The water was clear and shallow, so you could see schools of colorful fish swimming between small, sandy islands. The trees, much like the restaurant, seemed to rest atop stilts, their roots branching down to the ground and water, and there were colorful birds flying about.

Respected older brother says that there is a subtropical rain forest just a few days north east from here, and that is practically around the corner for the birds. We could also see numerous honey faeries, as respected older brother has moved one of their colonies into the area. I grew up watching them fly about in the garden, busily moving about, so it was a very soothing and familiar sight.

The food was spicy! A bit too spicy! But when you ate bits of several dishes at the same time, it mellowed out and a rather enjoyable taste came out. Overall, I would say it was quite good and a fresh experience. Since sailing around the sand banks seems unlikely, perhaps the beach-side restaurants will benefit the most? Apparently, respected older brother recognized some of the colorful fish swimming in the swamp's water as lava fish, a delicate species that lives almost exclusively in extremely hot water, which hinted at the presence of many hot springs in the area. Of course, simply asking the locals confirmed his suspicions splendidly. So far, I remember visiting the orc's capital hot baths twice, each time together with my family, and it was a very enjoyable experience, though both times we had the place to ourselves.

Respected older brother's maid seemed really happy about coming with me. Also, she is one of his fiancées. She seems to be an eccentric person.

She assisted me during my bath and helped me wash my hair. I have always liked this hairstyle, ever since I saw it on miss Opal. It seems really dignified, somehow. Besides, everyone seems to think that because I am tall for my age, it somehow fits and gives me a charming safe point to stare at. I do not understand why would anyone need such a thing, however.

Dear Earnest, I believe I have mentioned this before, but respected older brother is the inventor of shampoo and hair condicioner, as well as liquid soap, so it is something of a specialty at home to have a well stocked bath selection. I am glad the maid keeps a stash of her own, because I cannot feel properly clean without them. Also, even though we used [Clean] spells, I would swear you could still smell the saltwater on me anyway.

How is that even possible? It is a cleaning spell, it is supposed to leave you perfectly clean. Perhaps it is a problem with the user's perception of what is dirty and what is not. I will do a bit of research into it when next I have the chance.

I am wearing a different dress now, and after experiencing the heat here, with far less complaining. This one has a shorter, but very wide skirt that hangs loosely down to my knees, folding due to its own weight. Having said that, the fabric is very soft and light, so despite there being a lot of material, it can hardly be felt. The maid insisted in me wearing a wide brim hat for sun protection, but if that is important, I feel the dress should cover a little more, as it leaves my shoulders and a fair bit of my upper torse exposed in the front and the back. Then again, mother has complained about my sense of fashion being 'too practical' and 'your brother's fault'.

Oh, I like these shoes. Apparently they are called mules, and are basically a solid piece of hard but light wood secured with thin leather straps. It feels both fresh and safe since my feet are a little over two inches off ground level. The hat has a large flower.

Respected older brother is so toughtful! His slave handed me a copy of my dress for my drone pet, so now we match. It looks really cute like this! Well, if it tried to fly, chances are its hat would fall off, so it will have to remain just sitting on my shoulder, though. The maid helped me do its hair to match mine. I think it looks adorable.

Preparations complete, we finally head out. Rather than taking a coach, however, I prefer to walk there.

The free market occupies a long avenue near the seashore, but a block away from it, which feels like a shame. If it was moved further ashore, it would probably have a much more relaxed atmosphere, and be a good “tour is attraction” as respected older brother says. I wonder if it would be even better if some sort of platform could be built just for it, something akin to a dock? There could even be ships doubling as stores, I think that would be very interesting!

This is the frontier against the wilderness. There are no known kingdoms to the east, only s subcontinent-sized swamp, so I think it would be reasonable to expect there to be few ethnicities, isolated from the rest of the continent, let alone civilization. There's jackal beastkin, and humans. That would be it.

The only variety, as far as I observed, comes from the imperial troops. The soldiers cycle through different posts across the empire through their career, so they visit places that normal citizens cannot even imagine.

While looking at handmade seashell necklaces for my sisters, I noticed that pretty much everything is locally made.That is good if you are buying souvenirs, but it also means you have very few imports. I wonder if …

Having acquired some beautiful souvenirs, I was about to head for the beach again when the sound of struggle leaked over past the sounds of the market crowd. As it turns out, a young boy was being bullied by three older ones. Quickly heading over, I demanded that they stopped and started lecturing them on the improperness of abusing those smaller than themselves, when one of them complained that I was bigger than them, but I replied that I was not bullying them, but educating them, which is indeed the duty of those older towards the younger.

The same truant that complained about me being older then mentioned that he was 'only 13', which surprised me since in the end, it turned out that he was a year older than me. He looked quite small and thin. When I pointed out that I was actually twelve, they all looked at me as if I was some strange creature, but I cannot help being tall for my age! I feel like I will grow conscious of it, now.

Why did the theme deviate towards my age? Anyway, once they were convinced I was telling the truth, they seemed to relax and exchanged some odd looks before moving towards me and demanding I followed them to their boss. It was rather confusing. Everyone in my family older than me is also stronger than me, so I was a bit taken aback until I paid attention to their name and level tags over their heads.

They were 1/125th of my combined levels. Why would they think it was alright to threaten me?

Dearh Earnest. I have grown worried about my appearance after today, as these young men kept looking at me in odd ways. Once they seemed to have had a good enough look, they began arguing among themselves, including the youngster they had been bullying a few minutes before.

I guess they were indeed friends, after all. Men's friendship is different indeed. Girls seem to keep grudges over the smallest things, but men seem willing to forgive mild violence so long as something catches their attention. Are all men this way?

Looking at respected older brother's maid, she shrugged. It took a minute, and they kept looking back at us, but eventually they stood lined up and cleaned themselves as they asked for a favor. Apparently, they want me to try and represent them in order buy tickets for a theater performance. Since this sounds like a fine interest of them, I am a little confused as to why do they need me to do so, but they said some half-sensible lies about an age barrier due to young children being too disruptive for the rest of the patrons.

Well, I could tell they were lying, but could not find a reason not to do as they requested of me. And besides, I have yet to see a play outside of campus...

As a result, they handed me the ticket money, and showed me to the ticket booth. It was surprisingly, at the edge of town. Come think about it, I had seen such tent towns before, but mother had always said I was too young to participate of the nomad's market. Regardless, they had some very colorful handicrafts and souvenirs, but I do not think you could call anything from a nomad's market 'typical of the region', after all.

I still bought a lovely doll, however.

Seeing me purchase the doll, the maid escorting me seemed to doubt for a moment, but shook her head and continued to escort us towards the theater tent. The granny at the booth was very polite. She gave me a smile and asked about my age, so... I could not lie to such a nice elder, and she gave me a lecture, then had me guide her to where the rest of the group was waiting and gave them a lecture too, before nagging at my respected older brother's maid worse of all, and handing me a note for him.

My newfound companions seemed quite disappointed, but resigned themselves once I explained that it would have been wrong to lie to such an elderly lady. There were comments such as “so this is a noble” and the like... ah, I was going to comment about my family staying away from nobility titles, but respected older brother has at least two now. Or was it four?

Trying something else, I did successfully bought a bottle of boss. Booz? It tasted awful, and my brother's maid laughed a lot. I told them about respected older brother's plans for the beach and the hot baths, but they did not seem overly interested. It is a shame that so few people know the enjoyment of a public hot bath.

Honestly, if it wasn't because respected older brother told me this was normal swimming clothes, I may have felt uncomfortable but then I remembered they did not know how to swim, and it was normal to expect they would not be accustomed to swimming fashion.

“Eh~ nice reaction!” My escort maid seemed to approve.

Since he was the only one looking in my direction, I adressed my friend on the left, and explained that this was part of beach culture. Beach culture. I explained it twice because it was important, and that is how respected older brother does.

Then, I asked him if he was ready for swimming, at which point my escort maid interrupted me by explaining that I was forgetting about sun oil for me and the young gentlemen, which was indeed the case.

As the maid finished spreading the oil on me, I couldn't help but notice that my new friends were standing funny. Well, as respected older brother's maid walked up to them with the oil bottle, they all turned around while she annointed them in turn.

She seemed quite happy as she asked them about the quality of their beach experience so far, though it seems a bit too soon for it.

Still, they all seemed quite happy to hear that they needed to go into the water next, rushing in to about chest height, so I decided to proceed with the swimming lessons, and held them up one at the time while they got used first to floating and then to paddling and swimming. Well, its not as if I am an expert swimmer, so for now we just paddled around, but that was already more swimming than they had ever done, apparently.

Afterwards, my escorting maid showed off some fruits as snacks and treats, and we sat down on the shore to eat them with out bare hands. It feels oddly sattisfying to do so, but I would not have done so if it wasn't because I would use [Clean] afterwards.

In the end, I am happy to say that everyone enjoyed their first beach experience. After using [Clean] on my new friends, I suggested we exchange mailing address, though in this case they will send mail to respected older brother's manor in town. Mail friends are fun, but I am now looking forwards to meeting you in person soon.
