In a jungle far away from human civilization, there’s a pack of lioncats, a bipedal species that look like a mix of lions and cats. Much like their animal brothers, they lead a savage and carnivore lifestyle, and refuse to use tools, despite their high intelligence.

Prey in the woods is abundant, yet this warrior species loves competing and battling other clans for fun’s sake.

Women are the dominant sex among lioncats. They are born naturally stronger and faster than their male counterparts, giving them many rights and privileges over them. They can be rather cruel and harsh to men, often exiling or straight up killing them for the dumbest of reasons.

Males are constantly pushed around since their birth, and they live in constant fear and paranoia over not provoking their feminine leaders, lest they want to pay a high price.

It is nighttime, and the leader of the pack, Gnarth, calls everyone for a reunion. This is a special day – every year, the females pick a random male and give him an impossibly difficult task to fulfill in no more than 10 days, just for the laughs.

If he were to fail, then he’ll be exiled.

(Welcome to Lioncat Quest, a one shot with standard RPG elements.)

(You level up by gaining EXP, which is earned by training, fighting creatures and succeeding on physical checks. Each level up increases your HP, STR and AGI. The max level attainable is 10)

(HP stands for Hit Points. If they reach zero, you die. You recover HP by eating and resting)

(STR stands for Strength. It determines how damaging your attacks are)

(AGI stands for Agility. It determines your combat initiative, accuracy and evasion chance)

>Small Frame: Your movements have always been fast and dexterous ever since you were born, though your frame and height leaves a lot to be desired. Your starting AGI is increased to 15, but HP is lowered to 70. (This trait cannot be picked along with Bruiser)

>Bruiser: You’re a big guy, but your sheer size makes you clumsy. Your starting HP is increased to 150 points, but AGI is lowered to 8. (This trait cannot be picked along with Small Frame)

>Jinxed: All critical successes and failures in the quest have spectacularly huge effects. Those with the (mis)fortune to be around you are also affected by this trait. (NOTE: All rolls in the quest are 1d100, best of 3. A critical failure is rolling a 1, while a critical success is rolling a 100)

“Yeah, I’m talking to you, Dink! Step forward!”

Unfortunately, you were chosen this year to do Gnarth’s task. You can hear the females around you laugh at your sad fate, while the males let out a sigh of relief, knowing that they’re off the hook for this year.

Gnarth has been doing this crap ever since she became the leader, and not a single male has succeeded in accomplishing any of her requests. She clearly enjoys making you all suffer!

You do as she says, and step towards her, awaiting her instructions. Whatever challenge is to come, you’ll face it with courage. As one of the stoutest males of the pack, you’re confident in that you may stand a chance against whatever she throws at you.

Gnarth circles around you with a smirk on her face. “Dinky, Dinky, Dinky. The biggest guy in the pack, yet you can’t beat even the weakest female in an arm wrestling. It’s SO sad.”

You can hear some females chuckling at her humiliating remarks..“Listen, weakling” she continues. “As we all know, there’s a dragon who made the Death Mountain its home.”

She suddenly elevates her voice. “Your task will be to go to its lair, slay the beast, and bring me its head as a trophy! That's right!"

All the females let out a loud, ear-piercing shout and start clapping in the air, approving of their leader’s decision. The males facepalm and gaze at you with immense pity.

As you expected, the task she gave you is ridiculous. A single dragon can destroy an entire clan of lioncats, and they’ve already done so in the past. Gnarth KNOWS you cannot win against such a beast.

She notices that you’re not particularly happy with the task, and she grabs you by your chest tuff in a threatening manner. “Got a problem with that, Dink?”

>”Yeah, but I don’t really have a choice on the matter."
>”… No. I will do as you say, Gnarth.”
>”A problem? Of course not! It sounds like fun!”

“Yeah, but I don’t really have a choice on the matter.” You don’t like to hide your discontent with the females’ tyranny.

Gnarth gives you a contemptuous look. “Why so negative, Dinky? You tellin’ me a little dragon is too much for you to handle? All those muscles are just for show, I see!”

She lightly slaps your face repeatedly while giving you a condescending smile. It infuriates you, but you try to not make it too apparent. “Big guy, there’s *always* a second option. You either obey, or I kick your ass outta’ the pack. The choice is yours.”

Gnarth steps back and joins the other women, but not before giving you one last order. “You’ve got ten days to complete the task. And because I’m nice, the count starts tomorrow. Better start training, dumbo!”

The pack disperses, and everyone goes back to sleep. Your friends approach you, intending to comfort you for being the unlucky guy this year.

Jack, your most sentimental fríend, places his hand on your shoulder, and speaks in a sad tone. “I’m so sorry, man...”

Dakoh, your wrathful buddy, is furious and hopeless at Gnarth’s decision. “DAMN IT! Screw that woman! She's completely nuts! Hell, ALL the women around here are nuts!”

Shrimp, the cheerful pipsqueak, tries to encourage you. “HEY! WHY ARE YOU ALL TALKING LIKE DINK IS DOOMED? HE’S THE STRONGEST AMONG US! I BET HE CAN KICK THAT DRAGON’S BUTT!”

“Yeah!” The others nod in agreement, except for Liam, the pessimist one. He tries to bring them down to earth. “Come on, you guys. Gnarth wants Dink to fight a freakin' DRAGON. It’s impossible. Not even she can kill one on her own. Nobody can.”

“That’s not a reason to give up!” Jack corrects him with a scowl, then speaks to you with a smile. “Dink. Listen here, big guy. You must make the best use of these ten days. You should train as hard as you can to be ready to face the beast. Try asking one of the females to train you and teach you combat techni-”

Dakoh breaks out in a forced laughter as Jack mentions the females. “Pfft, HA HA HA! Nice joke. You think any of these women will EVER be nice to us? They just want us for reproduction! We’d be killed if it weren’t for that!”

“Exactly” Liam nods. “They’ll mock Dink if he asks for help. And even if he was trained, nobody can grow strong enough in ten days to face a dragon.” He closes his eyes and lowers his head in sadness and acceptance. “I’m sorry for being so blunt, but the sad truth is that Dink is going to be exiled. There’s no way he can accomplish Gnarth’s task in time.”

Everyone is silent. The air is grim and dark, as if everything is lost. The boys eventually drop the topic and try to talk about something else, but eventually, you all decide to go to sleep. Tomorrow will be a new day, and you will wake up with a fresh mind.

The future is uncertain. All you know for sure is that you will do your best to accomplish the task you were assigned with.

After a good night of rest, you wake up in a better mood. It’s time to come up with a plan.

As Jack said, you should start training and honing your skills before heading to the mountain. You have no idea of how to fight dragons, but you doubt even the best battle strategy will help you if you are weak.

There are some places of interest in the jungle. To the northwest, there’s the hunting grounds. All kinds of animals can be found there, both weak and tough. There’s a small chance that you’ll stumble upon Bunnydogs, a hostile clan to the west, but they shouldn’t be overly hostile as long as you keep your distance and they don’t outnumber you.

The northeast is the kobolds’ home. They are small, fragile lizard creatures that are laughably easy to hunt. Some of them use long pointy sticks that are quite dangerous if they make contact with your skin, but if you manage to get one or two hits on the little creatures, they’re as good as dead. And their meat tastes delicious.

To the east, there’s a huge cave that some scout females claim holds strange metal artifacts. Supposedly, it’s also home to tough monsters, but they’re not as powerful as ogres are, and a strong female lioncat could handle them without much trouble.

The land of the ogres is found to the southwest. They are fearsome, territorial beasts, and no one dares to enter their lands alone. It’s very rare of your pack to hunt ogres, but when you do, you ALL team up and focus on the single wandering ones, and even then, it’s incredibly difficult to bring them down. They’re still less dangerous than dragons, though.

Time is extremely valuable. Every second counts. You need to make up your mind!

Make pointy sticks like kobolds and learn to use them for throwing . We are to the dragon as kobolds are to us and the pointy stick is the thing that makes kobolds even marginally dangerous. After that go and explore the artifact cave, good for combat practice (XP) and the possibility of useful loot.(which we should hide from the females for obvious reasons)

You sit on the grass and ponder on what to do. Eventually, you come up with a nice training regime for today. Going to the hunting grounds and beating up all the animals you can find will surely increase your combat experience! Better start with the weakest critters before engaging the most dangerous ones.

Still… facing a dragon seems like a nigh impossible task, no matter how strong you become in these ten days. Maybe you should use a weapon, like those pointy sticks that some kobolds use. The females of the pack don’t like the idea of using tools, but you’ve got to use all resources at your disposal in order to survive, so screw what they think.

You're not completely sure, though. Maybe your claws are more than enough to face any opponent on your path. You'll make up your mind later - for now, you'll head to the hunting grounds.

You take a moment to contemplate the corpse lying before you. The critter put up a bigger fight than you expected, but in the end, it was worth it. Battling this vermin has allowed you to tap into the berserk power that only females know how to access. It feels great!

A familiar voice coming from the nearing bushes startles you, interrupting your victory pose.

"Woah. What an enticing fight. Truly, an epic to be told among cubs for generations to come."

... It's Elizabeth, one of the coldest women in the pack. She's been observing the fight the whole time.

Bah! All women complain about men and mock them for no reason! Don't they have anything better to do? You bet Elizabeth is here to bring you down, just like the others!

The cold woman stares at you with disgust. "If you were a REAL hunter, you wouldn't have to chase easy, disgusting prey like rats." Her words make you angry, because they're true, but you don't like who they're coming from. If you were stronger, you wouldn't have to deal with the women's abuses everyday...

You try to ignore her as you chew on the critter's corpse. The rush of energy fills you with strength and accelerates your body's healing rate, helping your leg wound close much faster. Such trait is unique to all lioncats, a power worthy of the kings of the jungle.

Dink's HP: 117/150 (You're not bleeding anymore)

As you pretend to enjoy the rancid breakfast, a sudden thought crosses your mind. Eventually, you're going to face a dragon, and the beast will easily swipe the floor with you if you don't learn to be a good fighter. Given that Elizabeth is here, it's probably a good idea to ask your enemy for combat tips, as Jack suggested.

However, the sole idea of asking a woman for help hurts your pride. It just doesn't feel right, considering that you and your buddies have been bullied by them for your entire lives... Still, considering the circumstances, maybe you should swallow your shame for now. What could possibly go wrong? You're not going to ask for training, just a combat tip or two. It's better than ignoring her while she throws useless comments about your performance. She might as well be useful.

After taking a long breath and preparing yourself to deal with her incoming response, you spit a question out, just to see what happens. "Oh yeah? Can you give me any combat tips, then?"

Elizabeth raises an eyebrow and crosses her arms. "Hmph! Now that's something I haven't seen before. A male daring to ask a woman for advice. What makes you think a weakling like you deserves my help?"

Damn it. You KNEW this would happen. This was a bad idea. Now she has even more leverage to bully you, because you just indirectly admitted she's better than you at hunting. Now she'll treat you with even more disrespect. You will NEVER ask a woman for advice again. This was the stupidest thing you've ever do-

The woman interrupts your train of regretful thoughts. "I feel bad for you males. You're all born so weak, lame and cowardly. There's no warrior blood running in your veins." She lets out a long, bored sigh. "... but I suppose I can indulge you with some advice, because it's physically painful to see how pitiful of a fighter you are."

Oh... so she's actually going to help you?

The woman looks at the rat's corpse, then gazes back at you before speaking. "Dink, your movements are the slowest of any lioncat I've met. Even a turtle is faster than you. You failed to get the first hit on the rodent because it was faster than you, despite having the advantage of a surprise attack. Then it latched onto your leg because your kick was TOO slow. Your bulking physique is useless if you fail to hit your targets and dodge their attacks."

Elizabeth turns around, intending to leave, but not before sharing one last observation. "If you want to stand a chance against stronger prey, then learn to use your weight to your advantage. Turn your weakness into a strong point."

"How am I supposed to do that?" you ask before she leaves. It's easy to say what you have to do, but it's useless if she doesn't show you how.

The woman shrugs you off. "It's up to you to figure out the rest. I've wasted enough time talking to you." She walks away from the scene, but suddenly halts and turns around to meet your gaze again, as if a new idea came to her mind. "... unless you make it worth the while."

"What do you mean?" you reply, wondering what she's thinking about. Elizabeth explains herself. "Bring me a fat, juicy deer, and I MIGHT consider teaching you a combat movement to make your attacks more accurate."

She averts her gaze and turns around, refusing to look at you while speaking. "I'm doing you a favor, Dink. Consider yourself fortunate that a strong woman like me is willing to train a weaker male."

Maybe asking this arrogant woman for advice was not a good idea. She must be thinking she's leagues above you now. Accepting her training offer will make you a laughing stock in front of everyone... or would it?

(Elizabeth can teach you KAMIKAZE SWIPE, an accurate attack that leaves your defenses exposed. You get +20 Roll Modifier to accuracy rolls, but you take 50% more damage to HP if your attack fails to connect and the enemy successfully retaliates.)

You intend to go out hunting again, but this time, you want to go for a different approach.

A few hours ago, you considered using a long pointy stick as a weapon, like kobolds do. Now that you're out in the woods, it may be a good idea to use the materials around you to create the tool.

You'd be the first and only lioncat to use a weapon. It's not that your people don't know how to make them, but you all refuse to do so because it's more honorable to fight using your claws, like real lions do, given that it's a natural and inherent weapon. But right now, you care more about your survival than honor.

Given that you've used your claws for your entire life, you wonder how effective using a pointy stick would be. Maybe you're better off fighting unarmed. There's only one way to find out - you've got to to give it a try.

It takes you some time to find a proper stick. You grab it and use your sharp claws to sharpen the tip...

Aaaand it's done! That was far easier than you expected!

A slight change on the battle system. It's not needed to read if you don't want to, it's more of a patch note if anything

- By default, combat rolls are 2d100. The first die is for accuracy, the second die is for evasion.
- If your accuracy is higher than your opponent's evasion, your attack connects. Otherwise, it's a miss or graze
- If the accuracy rolls of both fighters surpass each other's evasion rolls, then they may hit each other. The battler with the highest accuracy would get the first strike, and if the attack is sufficiently strong, the opponent's attack will be cancelled

In this case, you activated Berserk, so you still get the default 1d100 as your evasion will always be zero. The rat's evasion is also zero because it's too stupid to dodge. You'll both attack each other, and whoever has the highest accuracy will hit the other first.

Leo's arrogance knows no limits. It's very stupid of him to threaten you, the strongest male of the pack, much less in his pitiable condition!

You could easily kill the babbling idiot, but if he survived for two months in the wilderness, then he might know a thing or two about the Dragon, as well as other things. Offering half of your well-earned prey sounds like a fair deal in exchange for whatever knowledge he possesses.

The weak lioncat drools as he stares at the rat's lifeless body. You grab Leo's attention. "Hey." He gazes back at you with his weary eyes.

You voice your offer. "You can have half of it, but I want some information in exchange. I need to learn more about the dragon that made the Death Mountain its home, as well as other stuff regarding the jungle. Do we have a deal?"

There's no way you're handing Leo the entire rat. You're already doing the idiot a favor by offering half of it. He's not crucial to your goals - if he refuses to share his knowledge, then you'll find the answers yourself. Besides, he may not know anything valuable, and is just inflating himself to get his hands on your rightful prey.

Annoyed at Leo's attempts at negotiation in spite of his unfavorable position, you refuse his counter-offer. "No. I'll only give you half of it, but if you're this insistent on being an ass then I'll just be on my way -- your choice."

A slight change on the battle system, this one isn't anything major

- Damage dealt to a target has a variance of 75%-125%. The more accurate your attack, the closer to 125% it'll be
- For example, if your Accuracy score is 1000 and your opponent's evasion score is 1000, you hit for 75% of the normal damage. If your Accuracy score was 1250, then you'd hit for 100% damage. However, if your Accuracy was 1500, then you'd hit for 125% damage.

Without a single thought, you stand up and shove the piece of crap aside, which left your chest reeking. As you try to resist the urge to kill yourself, you look for another stick to carve into a weapon.

>+1 Wooden Spear (1.4x STR)

Honor is not a thing you care about anymore. It was shameful enough to use a pointy stick in combat, but losing to a malnourished and maimed Leo while wielding one is the last straw. You've just hit rock bottom.

And yet, despite everything, you still have your main goal in mind, which is to kill the Dragon at all costs. You cannot fall into a depression over this experience. You must keep moving forward, and not let this bad experience halt your progress...

... but that doesn't mean your heart doesn't crave for revenge. Once you recover from your wounds and find the opportunity, you'll search for Leo and make him PAY for what he did.

You should probably make a pact with the universe beforehand so it stops screwing you over at crucial times.

It's time to resume your hunting routine. You feel incredibly weak, but filling your belly with food will make you feel better... that is, as long as your prey doesn't retaliate and kill you first, as you don't think you can take much punishment in your current state.

However, you need to clean your chest and the blood on your face first, so you go to the nearest lake to cleanse yourself in both body and mind. You also take a sip of the refreshing water, which makes you feel somewhat better.

After devouring your meal, you grab the pointy stick on the grass and stare at it for a while, meditating on whether it's right to use it or not.

>+1 Wooden Spear (1.4x STR)

You thought a while ago that you cared more about honor than survival, but it's easier said than done. It's in your blood to be a wild hunter and assert dominance by raw strength, and killing your prey with this tool feels very, very wrong... it's like you're betraying yourself.

But not using your available resources to overcome your enemies seems like a waste, too. You'll have to face a dragon eventually, and sticking to honor ALL the time may end up with your death.

Maybe you need to find a balance. Hunting like a real lioncat is important, but so is living to tell the tale. When you face opponents of weaker or equal power to yours, you could fight with your bare hands, like you did with the rodent, and use this pointy stick ONLY when fighting creatures much stronger than you.

You'd rather not use it at all, but you don't think it would be so bad if it's only a last resort in the most dire of situations.

DAMN IT! Where are the impalas at?! An hour has passed by now, and you haven't found a single one, even when they're one of the most common animals in the jungle!

This really isn't your day!

In the middle of your tantrum, a strange sound reaches your ears. It's a feminine voice humming a tone, and it's coming from behind the bushes.

You don't recognize the voice... it's too soothing to belong to any of the women in your pack. What kind of creature could it be? Is it tasty?

... Wow! What kind of creature is that? You've never seen anything like it before! It's like a chimpanzee and a horse got glued together!

It doesn't seem to be aware of your presence, as it's too busy picking up flowers and studying them. It finds the task entertaining, judging from its smile. It's an odd view - there are also many butterflies buzzing around it.

You wonder how it tastes. It doesn't look too tough to hunt, but given that it's the first time you see an animal like this, maybe you shouldn't jump and attack it straight away. Hmm, what to do, what to do...

The creature's behavior is stirring up your curiosity. You're not sure if you want to hunt it or observe its actions for a while, but regardless, you want to have a closer look at it.

You bend your knees and stealthily approach the strange animal, which is still distracted as it picks up flowers and smells them...

You didn't expect the creature to be able to talk! This is a good opportunity to convince it to trust you. Making sure to not make any threatening movements, you talk to it from afar. "Look, I never saw an animal like you and I just wanted to take a closer look at you. I never intended to hurt you."

Of course, you conveniently omit that you MIGHT decide to hurt it later, as you're still not sure on whether or not it'll be your lunch. It looks fat and tasty.

The horsechimp gives you a suspicious look. "Hmmm.. I'm not sure... why didn't you greet me normally instead of stalking?"

Its facial gestures are nearly identical to that of a lioncat, so you can easily discern what it's thinking. It's clearly an intelligent creature, similar to bunnydogs, kobolds and your species.

You quickly come up with an excuse. "Hell, you could have tried to kill me for all I know!" It looks like a frail prey at first view, but appearances can be deceiving.

"Of course not!" the animal exclaims with a frown, shaking its head. "We centaurs avoid violence whenever we can. I'm not so sure about you, though..."

A centaur! So that's what this creature calls itself. "I'm not lying, miss Centaur!" you insist, assuming it's a female due to her huge badongas. "I don't hunt everything on my path. I'm always curious to learn new things, in this case about you."

The centaur stares at you in silent wariness, considering your words. After a few seconds, it reveals its thoughts. "Well, you don't sound so bad..."

It lets out a sigh of relief, convinced that the creature in front of her is not a threat. "Phew! Sorry for misjudging you!"

With a smile drawn on her face, the female leaves its hideout and non-chalantly approaches you! It's surprising how quick she is to place her trust.

The centaur speaks with a tone that shows complete lack of concern about her safety. "I admit I never saw a creature like you, either. I'm not from around these parts. Are you some kind of kitty cat?"

Aaand you're suddenly hit with the realization that the name of your species is kind of silly. 'Lioncat'... it sounds like calling yourself twice the cat.

You're far more a lion than a measly kitten. Maybe you should propose a name change to the clan. Something along the lines of 'lionmen' sounds far cooler and more representative of your ways.

... Nah. It won't work. The females will never accept your ideas, because you're a worthless male in their eyes.

"... Are you SURE you aren't going to eat me when I don't expect it?" the centaur asks in a half-joking manner, letting out a nervous laugh.

You reassure her that she's safe... for now, at least. "We are part lion" you explain, "but we're intelligent enough to choose who to be ferocious with. I assure you I have no desire to hunt you. I just wanna' talk... believe it."

The centaur is visibly relaxed by your words."Oh, well, that's good to know!" She proceeds to introduce herself. "Anyway, my name is Amelia. It's a pleasure to meet you, Dink!"

She gives you a warm smile. "Say, can you tell me more about your species? One of the reasons I left my home is to learn more about the jungle and the creatures that live in it!"

This is the first time a female is being nice to you. You're actually holding a conversation with one instead of being mocked, punched, dragged by the floor or stepped in your face as it usually happens when interacting with the women of your pack. It's a nice change of pace, even if she's from another species...

You tell the centaur about your life as a lioncat and your plight with Gnarth, as well as how she sent you on an impossible quest to slay a dragon. You explain that you arrived to the pack five years ago, and since then, you've suffered countless abuses. But once Gnarth took over as the alpha, things got leagues worse. She's a complete tyrant! You're convinced that she has a beef with males, because her cruelty with them knows no limits...

Amelia pays full attention to your tale, showing genuine interest. It's great that a woman wants to hear your thoughts! After finishing your story, she gives you a look of pity and concern. "Being a male in your matriarchal society sounds rough..."

"It is" you admit. "It definitely is."

The centaur looks at the clear sky and lets out a sigh of satisfacton. "I knew I was doing the right thing when I left my clan. There's SO much to learn in this jungle! It's exciting!"

"You left your pack?" you ask, a question to which she nods with a smile. "Yeah, but not forever. I plan to return one day. I'm from the mountains to the north of here, the place that my people made their home. You see, I'm an alchemist, so-"

"What's an 'alchemist'?" you interrupt, wondering what she meant. "Oh! Um..." The centaur tries to come up with a way of explaining her mystical knowledge to you. "You see, an 'alchemist' is someone who combines plants, mushrooms, animal parts, minerals and other components with water in order to make a compound that you can drink. These compounds are called 'potions', and they have many different effects in your body, which vary from curing ailments to making you stronger, faster, more perceptive... and so on."

Hmm... those 'potions' sure sound neat and useful.

"I like to make potions in my free time" she continues. "I'm collecting ingredients in this jungle to study and experiment with them, and see what kind of new compounds I can come up with. My clan will be amazed once I return and show them what I've learned in my tour! They said it was dangerous to leave the safety of the mountains, but I'm an adventurer-type, y'know?"

There's a brief moment of silence between the two of you. She's the first one to break it with a request. "Hey, I've set up a hidden camp near here. Want to come and check it out?"

Hey anons, I want to make an announcement. I'll be busy for what remains of this month due to preparing for my finals, so I won't be able to update this quest as often as usual. I might be able to update every now and then, but if I suddenly disappear for multiple days it's because I'm studying.

Unfortunately this also means I'll have to delay Gnoll Quest and God Quest one more time. College will be over by December, so I'll have more free time by then to continue these quests.

As you wonder of the taste of this exotic creature's flesh, the centaur's smile starts giving you conflicted feelings. You don't normally interact with prey in such a friendly manner... is it right to betray the trust she placed on you? There are so many animals that can be hunted instead. Besides, she's the first woman you've enjoyed talking to in your entire life.

Maybe you shouldn't devour a potential friend, not to mention that you’re interested on learning more about those so-called ‘potions’ she speaks of. They could be useful in your dragon hunt. You’re still curious about her taste, but you’d rather hang out with her and pay her shelter a visit.

After several seconds awaiting your answer, Amelia suddenly retracts her invitation, believing that you don't want to go to her place. “Oh, nevermind, haha… you must be busy hunting, right?“

You shake your head. “No, let’s go, I wanna’ see your camp.” The centaur smiles again. "Great! It's this way. Don't worry, it's not too far from here!" She leads you to the north, to where the rocky hills are located.

On the way to the camp, you ask Amelia if she knows anything about dragons.

"Ahh... such magnificient and mysterious creatures." She lets out a sigh of admiration. "They are giant, winged animals that seek to be left alone, so they build their lairs in the peak of mountains. They leave every hundred years to hunt prey and do their basic needs, and then spend the rest of their time hibernating in their secluded homes."

"Despite their peaceful nature, they turn into unstoppable killing beasts when provoked or interrupted from their sleep. They use their immense size to smash their attackers, all while their thick scales renders them very resistant to attacks. But what truly puts them at the top of the food chain is their fire breath, which lets them lay fiery oblivion upon everything."

"A single one can wipe out an entire army of centaurs with their breath alone!" she exclaims in surprise, as if not even she could believe how powerful those beasts are. "Only the strongest warriors of all history have slayed dragons, and even then, they needed to drink plenty of potions beforehand!"

That's not good news. If you fail to carry out the dragon hunt, then you'll be exiled! Damn it! It's not fair that Gnarth can do whatever she wants to males like you. She needs to be taught a lesson. Maybe you need to deal with her instead...

"Speaking of potions" you interrupt. "Do you have anything that can help me kill a dragon? Or at least something to deal with Gnarth, in case hunting such a mighty beast turns out to be impossible?"

Amelia smiles and nods. "I'll help you in any way I can, Dink." She suddenly lowers her face, as if a new idea came to her mind, then meets your gaze again. "... but I'd like to ask you a small favor, if you don't mind. We can talk about it once we arrive to my place."

TIME 12:30

You and Amelia venture through the woods and eventually arrive to a small cave. "Here we are!" Amelia exclaims.

Asides from three strange transparent objects lying on the stone floor, nothing in this enclosed space looks out of the ordinary. There's an unlit bonfire, an animal skin blanket, a bag filled with feathers and other with herbs and plants, as well as a wooden bucket holding water.

Amelia gazes at you, examining your wounds. "You've got plenty of scratches" she comments, scratching her chin. "Looks like you got into a fight with a tough creature. Sit down, Dink. I'll make you a healing potion."

What? Potions can heal you too? They sure are useful! "Neat, thanks!" you exclaim, grateful for her aid and impressed at how amiable this centaur is, despite being the first time you know each other.

You sit on a corner of the cave, evaluating your surroundings and watching Amelia work on the potion.

I was more worried about the aftermath of killing Gnarth. We are already having a hard time as it is hunting for food, and we saw how Leo was barely holding on after he was exiled, so if we get exiled because of murder, we are probably going to be in for a real hard time.

>Ask about her home

With nothing better to do other than watch Amelia work on the potion, you decide to make conversation with her. "Sooo... what's life like in your clan?" you ask out of curiosity.

Amelia raises her head and stares aimlessly, as if not expecting that question. "It's, uh... not as exciting as yours." She shrugs and smiles. "Are you sure you want to hear it? You'll get bored to tears."

"I could use a nap" you reply in a joking manner. She takes it well, revealing a frown and a grin at the same time. "Hahaha! Oh, you... Fine, I'll tell you, but don't complain afterwards."

--------------------

TIME:13:00

Amelia comes from what she calls a "village". According to her, they are similar to packs, prides and clans, except their members live in wooden structures called "houses". You have a hard time picturing them, but judging from her description, they sound like nice, comfortable shelters to sleep in.

She says her village is small, as it 'only' holds a population of five hundred centaurs... but that's a LOT for a single clan. Your pride has only sixty three members! If five hundred people is too few for their kind, you can't help but wonder what their big villages look like...

According to your new friend, centaurs are not carnivorous. Their diet consists exclusively of fruits and vegetables. Besides foraging, they also grow their food by a process called "farming", which Amelia tries explaining to you, but gives up when she notices that you have no clue of what she's talking about. Whew! This is a lot to take in at once.

Amelia explains that centaurs have a peaceful nature, but they don't hesitate to defend their lands when needed. Fortunately for them, they are currently in good terms with their neighbor clans, and even trade goods with another intelligent species called "humans", which look similar to centaurs, except for the horse part.

When asked about her family, Amelia says that she's the eldest child of a family of seventeen living in the same house. She's loved by her parents and brothers, which made it hard for her to leave home, but she couldn't resist her desire of knowledge and adventure.

As you hear about Amelia's origins, you can't help but reflect on your lack of knowledge about the world. You've lived your entire life in the jungle, unaware that there are other intelligent creatures aside from lioncats, bunnydogs and kobolds. There are so many things you're clueless about...

>Ask about clothes

Several minutes pass by. Whew! This conversation has been going for a while now. Women of other species are gentle, but they're also super talkative. You're getting distracted and losing track of what she's saying, so you just nod and smile while examining her animal features.

Centaurs have a strange appearance. Why do they look horse-ish down there, but like a furless chimp in their top half? Someone must've had a laugh while designing these creatures.

For the first time, your eyes slowly deviate to Amelia's furless torso, and they get fixed in her two boings. It's a sight unlike any other you've had... and it's also ooooddly appealing. A part of you says that you shouldn't have these feelings, but at the same time, they feel totally natural. It's like your two species are more related than it seems at first view...

... But why?

"Don't you get cold with the lack of fur up there?" you ask, pointing at her chest. She quickly covers herself with her arms, embarrassed by your remark. "By the Gods! I forgot I was naked..."

You raise an eyebrow at her strange reaction, and raise a new question. "What does "naked" mean?" As soon as you voice your thoughts, Amelia looks relieved, and her posture becomes relaxed. "Ha, ha... right! You're not a male centaur. I have no reason to be embarrassed!"

Embarrassed for what? You have no clue of what she's talking about.

"A day ago, my clothes were stolen by a chimpanzee while I was bathing" she explains. "Oh, and before you ask what 'clothes' are, uh... they are these things made of leather or other materials that centaurs wear on our bodies, protecting us from heat and coldness alike. When someone is 'naked', it means he or she is not wearing any clothes."

Amelia looks down, looking somewhat uncomfortable. "I know it may sound weird to you, but... but it's not usual for our species to go around naked in public." She looks up to you, and you nod to show that you get what she means.

In truth, you don't understand what's so shameful about not wearing clothes. Centaurs are weird.

>Ask about the favor

Your new friend abruptly changes the topic, clearly not wanting to talk about nakedness any longer. "Aaanyway... the potion is almost finished. We just have to let it rest for fifteen minutes."

"Awesome, thanks" you show your gratitude to the centaur. You remember that she mentioned something about a favor a while ago. "So, what was that favor you wanted to ask me?"

Amelia smiles. "I was just about to tell you, Dink. Our minds are synchronized!" She points to the bag filled with plants and herbs. "I've been collecting many alchemical ingredients in this jungle, and I was wondering if you could help me with that. I would be super, duper grateful if you bring me any weird-looking herbs and mushrooms you might stumble upon. Of course, I'll gladly share with you all the potions I make!"

She grabs a pouch hidden under the blanket and shows it to you. "This right here is called a 'pouch', Dink. You can keep all the ingredients you find here. Take it!"

>Accept to do the favor
>Warn her that other Lioncats are not as friendly as you are, and may not think twice about sampling her sweet meats

"Sure, why not." It doesn't sound like a difficult task, and it's the least you can do to repay Amelia for the healing potion. You grab the pouch and wear it on your shoulder. It's the first time you hold an item like this in your hands. The texture is strange - it's similar to animal skin, except much softer.

>+1 Leather Pouch

Amelia makes an excited hop, revealing a twinkle in her eye. "Yaaay! Thank you SO much, Dink! I can't wait to see what sort of ingredients you bring!"

The cheerful and innocent behavior of this woman concerns you a bit. She's oblivious to the dangers of the jungle, and her friendliness may put her life in danger. A female lioncat wouldn't hesitate to devour her, so it's good that she met you before that happened. She needs to stay the hell away from the rest of your pack.

"Amelia, watch yourself around these parts" you warn her as your eyes become fixed on her beautiful boings again. "Other lioncats are not as friendly as I am, and they may not think twice about sampling your sweet meats."

She gazes at you in silence with a look of confusion and disbelief. "M-my... my sweet what?" Amelia mutters after several seconds, revealing a nervous expression on her face. She steps back and covers her chest, staring at you embarrassed. She’s obviously taken aback by you speaking your thoughts out loud… but in all honesty, a part of you also wanted to court her. Despite belonging to a different species, you find Amelia oddly attractive, in an exotic way.

You quickly avert your eyes off her torso and come up with an excuse to avoid making her feel uncomfortable. "Uh... I meant your sweet *meat*. Lioncats are voracious and find meat to be... sweet... and, uh, appetizing? I'm an exception to the rule, though." Amelia nods lightly, but doesn't drop her tense posture. "R-right... " she stutters with uncertainity in her tone. "I'll keep that in mind, I guess..."

Centaurs are prudish and reserved, unlike the brutish females of your pride. You're kind of enjoying interacting with this new archetype of woman... it's a nice change of pace.

>Ask what kind of potions she can make

You try to come up with a new topic of conversation before she gets too creeped out. Amelia said she'll share her potions with you, which will prove very useful if their effects are as great as she makes them out to be…

"Hey, what kind of potions can you make?" you ask while staring at the three empty flasks lying on the stone floor, showing as much genuine interest as you can. Amelia is evidently uplifted by the idea of talking about her area of expertise and interest, and she becomes visibly relaxed. The chat goes on as normal, but you'll still keep in mind to be more careful with your choice of words next time.

"Hmmm...” She scratches her chin, trying to come up with an answer to your question. “With the ingredients I've found so far, I can make potions of--"

--------------------

== Amelia gives you a list of the available compounds she can make. The list will grow as you bring her new ingredients. ==

== Unlike food, Potions don't increase BELLY. However, Dink can only drink a limited number of potions per day before his body rejects them. The limit is 2 + (Dink's Level / 2). ==

== You can drink multiple potions of the same type. The effects stack additively, except for their duration. ==

== Some potions are locked behind a level requirement. Drinking them without meeting it may lead to severe consequences. ==

1. STRENGTH POTION: Increases Strength by 20% for 1 hour.

2. HEALING SALVE: Instantly recovers 25% HP.

3. TROLL SYRUP: During battle, regenerates 5% HP after doing a combat action, up to a max of 50% HP. Outside of combat, it regenerates 1% HP per second, up to a max of 50% HP. (Level requirement: 4)

4. FOCUS POTION: You cannot be knocked out during combat, regardless of damage taken. Lasts 1 hour.

5. STEADY SALVE: +15 Roll Modifier to all accuracy rolls for 1 hour.

6. SNEAKITY SNEAK PULP: +15 Roll Modifier to all sneak / stealth rolls for 1 hour.

7. BARK POISON: If gulped down, the target instantly loses 200 HP. If coated in a weapon, it inflicts Poison upon contact with its target, which loses 20 HP after doing a combat action, up to a max of 100 HP.

>Ask about how people have killed dragons

"Alchemy is neat" you exclaim, "I've never heard of anything like this before."

Amelia looks proud of herself. “All my knowledge is at your disposal, Dink, Any time you need a potion, just ask!”

Despite how useful it must be to have these powerful brews at your disposal, you still have the feeling that you need an actual strategy to deal with the dragon. You remember that Amelia mentioned something about dragon slayers...

"Hey, regarding dragons... how do people fight them?" you ask your friend, hoping that she can illuminate you with the battle tactics they use to accomplish the feat.

“According to the legends" she explains, "A dragon starts a fight by breathing fire as hot as the surface of the Sun. Its breath must either be dodged with great speed, or resisted by gulping down a Fire Immunity potion beforehand. It can only use its breath every two minutes, so the fight must be ended as soon as possible before it can use it again."

"Dragons fight by biting and using their tails to smash their opponents. Hunters suggest to stay on their blind side and stab them through their rough scales while avoiding their heads and tails, which are the toughest and most dangerous parts of their bodies."

"When the monster is losing the battle, it flies away from its lair, then waits for its breath to replenish before scorching the warrior from above. The hunter must either drink a Levitation Potion and finish the dragon off in aerial combat, or wear the beast down with a ranged weapon."

Amelia's smile disappears all of a sudden, being replaced by a serious look in her gaze. The contrast with her usual gleeful demeanor is unsettling. "Dink, I'll be honest with you" she says with a calm, but somber voice. "You should not face the dragon in direct combat. It's nigh-impossible to win against one. Dragon slayers are walking legends who can go toe-to-toe with the fiercest monsters in the world, and even they prefer to avoid those beasts due to the sheer danger it involves."

"Woah…" you whisper to yourself in a mix of astonishment and frustration. You’re starting to doubt how achievable your task really is....

Your new friend tries to reassure you. "I'm sure there are better alternatives, Dink... maybe we can poison the beast. They are resistant to poison, but there might be ingredients in the jungle with strong enough properties to fulfill the task. It would only be a matter of finding them."

"Oooor... you could talk to your leader and convince her to give you another task. But I don't know her very well, so forgive me if it's a dumb idea." She lets out a faint, unenthusiastic chuckle. “It won't work" you dismiss it. Gnarth would probably beat you to a pulp if you bother her at all.

Maybe you should come up with a new plan. Hunting might help you clear your mind, but all in all, getting rid of your leader is starting to look like a genuine solution to your problems.

“Me too” you reciprocate. “I thought all females were demon spawns, but meeting you has put many things in perspective.” She giggles heartily.

You drink the healing salve down to the last drop. The taste is bitter and unpleasant, as Amelia mentioned, but its invigorating effects take place immediately, which makes up for it.

>Dink: 104 / 195 HP (+48 HP from Healing Salve)

“How do you feel?” Amelia asks with a smile as she scans your wounds. “Much better!” you exclaim, surprised at the power of Alchemy.

--------------------

(After drinking the potion, Amelia tells you her schedule.)

(She sleeps from 21:00 PM to 06:00 AM. After waking up, she leaves the cave to collect fruits and ingredients, and returns to the camp at 12:00 PM. She rests until 13:00 PM, after which she studies and experiments with her alchemical ingredients for the rest of the day.)

(Between 13:00 PM and 20:00 PM of any day, you can visit Amelia and request potions, as well as drop by to chat or bring her any ingredients you find. Most potions take approximately 1 hour to be made, but this may vary depending on the brew.)

>Ask her to teach you to make healing potions

A thought suddenly crosses your mind – what if you learn to make healing potions like Amelia does? It’s convenient for when she’s not around..

“Can you teach me to make salves?” you ask. “It’s not too complicated, is it?”

She shakes her head. “Honestly... it’s not easy, Dink. Even to make a simple healing salve, you'd need to learn the basics of Alchemy, which takes months of studying. There are many variables involved when we make potions – you need to distill substances, cook them, use tools like a mortar and pestle, calcinators, alembics, retorts... and you must also know to discern between ingredients to avoid ingesting poisons by accident.”

Amelia points at the empty salve flask. “One of the components of the healing potion I gave you is a poisonous mushroom that would make you vomit after a single bite. It takes practice to successfully extract the useful properties of substances and make a useful potion with them. All brews have a recipe that must be followed step by step, as any mistakes during the process would ruin their effects and have undesired consequences.”

“Fiiine, fine, I get it” you reply, tired of her long-winded explanation. “I guess I’m not cut out for this.”

Your friend giggles and tries to cheer you up. “Oh, don’t be like that! I’ll give you all the potions you need, Dink. But if you’re still interested in learning Alchemy, then I’ll be happy to take you as my student!”

“Uh… thanks for the offer" you reply, not too excited about the idea of learning all that complicated stuff. "I’ll give it a thought, but I want to deal with the dragon first. I only have ten days before Gnarth exiles me.”

Amelia reassures you. “If you don't succeed, know that you’re always welcome here.” Her words warm your heart. It’s good to know that even if you fail in your dragon hunt, you won’t be completely alone.

Since Amelia said she’ll make all the potions you need, you might as well request one right now. It may prove useful during your hunts… or maybe you can use it on Gnarth to get rid of her, though that would be a very dishonorable move. Besides, if the females ever find out… you don’t want to imagine what they’ll do to you.

Well, it's better to have the poison than not have it. How you use it will be something to think about later. “Regarding potions… can you make some bark poison, please?” you request Amelia.

“Ahh, I see you’re excited to test it on your prey!” she exclaims. “No problem, Dink. Come back in an hour – the potion will be waiting for you!”

You nod. “Cool, thanks.”

TIME: 14:00 PM

You’ve enjoyed talking to Amelia and learning about her species. All the knowledge you’ve acquired has expanded your worldview, and it makes you realize that the jungle is not all there is. There’s a giant world full of mysteries out there, and you're deadly curious about it.

But, as interesting as it is, the woods are your natural habitat, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. This is where you were born, and it’s where you will pass away, if Nature wills it.

You stare at Amelia, who gazes back at you with an innocent smile. A centaur like her is frail and vulnerable, clearly unfitting for the harsh life of the jungle. Running away may not always prevent her from getting mauled – she needs a weapon to defend herself with.

“Amelia, take this in case an animal attacks you.” You give your friend the pointy stick, which she clumsily grabs with her petite hands. “Wha... you’re giving me your spear?! But… but I’m not a warrior!”

It seems that centaurs call these pointy sticks ‘spears’. It reminds you of pears, which sucks because you hate fruit.

Before your mind wanders elsewhere, you try to convince Amelia to accept your weapon. “You need it just in case, Amelia. I can make another spear for myself easily.”

Amelia gazes at the pointy stick with a worried look. “I… well… okay... thank you, Dink. I’ll keep it handy for an emergency, but I hope I never have to use it. I don't like fighting...”

A woman who doesn’t like fighting? Now THAT’S the oddest thing you’ve ever heard! Female lioncats love bloodshed and combat, but Amelia is not like them. She comes from a whole different world!

>Ask for a hug

Your stomach is growling, asking to be filled with food. When the hunt calls, it calls. It’s time to say goodbye to your friend, though you’ll be back in a while to fetch the poison. "I’m off to hunt, Amelia. See ya’ soon!”

She leaves the spear supported on one of the cave’s walls, and waves goodbye. “See you later, Dink! Don’t forget to come back for the potion in an hour. And please, bring a few herbs and plants if you can!”

You give your friend one last look before departing. She’s so friendly, and warm, and… and cute. What if you ask for a hug? You’ve been bummed after the incident with Leo, but a nice hug would *really* cheer you up. Besides, it’d be a good way to know each other better!

“Before I leave…” You open your arms wide open. “… Can I hug you, Amelia?”

“… Huh?” She gives you a confused look, as if she didn't understand your request.

“A hug, my friend" you repeat. "I wish to hug you before departing.”

Amelia opens her eyes wide. “... Ooooh! A hug!" She scratches the back of her head. "I, Dink… excuse me but… uh… please, don’t take this the wrong way, but…“

That’s it, you can't take it anymore. You HAVE to share you love with her. Unable to control your manly urges, you walk towards Amelia and lock her between your arms, giving her a strong embrace. She doesn’t move a single muscle – that totally means she likes it!

Oh, man, she’s SOOOOOO soft. And her scent is pleasant too. But the part that you're most enjoying from squeezing her is that you can feel her humongous chest on your... your...

You feel… funny. Oh no! Better get out of here before it’s too late!

“T-thanks for the hug” you tell Amelia, releasing the grip on her. She steps back immediately, and looks at you with pure surprise in her eyes. Your friend was *definitely* not expecting you to hug her like that.

You run away from the cave as fast as you can, but look back for a moment to see if her expression has changed. Amelia still looks confused as hell, but at least she raises her arm to wave you goodbye.

After finding a long, firm stick to carve into a new spear and sharpening the tip with a rock, you decide to venture into the woods, looking for a yummy prey to devour whole. Hopefully you'll find impalas this time, and not another stinky rat.

Amelia asked for ingredients, so you'll also keep your eyes open for any pretty plants, herbs and mushrooms you see on the ground.

>+10 Alchemical Ingredients

(The more Alchemical Ingredients you bring back to Amelia, the greater the chance that some of them will be special and give access to new potions. Your pouch can carry up to 50 Alchemical Ingredients.)

You have stumbled upon a lone wolf! It's not aware of your presence yet. It's sniffing the grass, probably tracking down a prey.

=== LONE WOLF ===

HP: 80
STR: 12
AGI: 11
Grants 100 EXP upon defeat
Grants 30 HP and +3 BELLY upon being eaten

====================

Wolves are predators, so their meat is not as tasty and nutritious compared to that of an impala. They are tough to take down and also carry a nasty bite, but you'd probably gain lots of battle experience from facing one in combat.

A stealth attack could be a valid approach, but their keen sense of smell may give you away. You'd have to approach it very fast and take it down before it smells you. The only question is... is it worth risking your neck to face this natural hunter, especially in your wounded state?

Of course it's worth it. No risk, no gain!

Sneaking behind the wolf will probably not work since it's already trying to smell a prey. But you have a sharp spear in your hands, and it can be thrown for massive damage. It will never see it coming!

Holding your weapon firmly, you assume a throwing stance and launch it with all your strength at the distracted canine!

New mechanic added: Wrestling.

- When you attempt to grapple or wrestle an opponent, both battlers do a Grappling roll, which is then multiplied by each one's respective STR. You need a Grappling score higher than your target's in order to successfully wrestle it.

- Your Accuracy needs to be higher than your opponent's Evasion in order to put it in a wrestling hold, and then your Grappling score must also be higher than its Grappling score in order to keep the hold. If you score lower in either Accuracy or Grappling, your wrestling move fails and the turn is lost

The strong and agile predator has turned into a fearful doggy at the sight of imminent death, losing all of its ferociousness in a matter of seconds. It's a bleak sight, but in the end, it never standed a chance against you and your handy pointy stick.

A strong bite to the wolf's neck should put a quick end to its misery. It cannot defend itself effectively in its current shape, so it shouldn't be too hard to approach it and put it in a wrestling hold.

You lunge at the injured animal, intending to grapple it and perform the finishing move... but the wolf reacts by letting out a furious growl and charges back at you! Looks like it hasn't completely lost its fighting spirit!

You chew as hard as you can, and feel as your mouth gets filled with blood and meat. It’s a sign that your bite has dealt tremendous, irrepairable damage.

The wolf immediately releases its bite, and so do you. Your arm hurts like hell - the animal left a nasty bleeding wound. Nonetheless, the difference of jaw power between the two of you is evident – the wolf paid a MUCH higher price than you did. A good portion of its snout is gone.

You stare at the limping canine, which gazes back into your eyes and hides its tail between its legs in pure terror, unwilling to continue fighting. Its movements have become erratic and it can barely keep itself on foot. Without a doubt, this predator’s death is imminent.

Not even ten seconds pass by after releasing the bite on your arm, and the wolf falls to the ground, convulsing as what little strength it had left abandons its shattered body.

The hunter has become the hunted.

A moment before succumbing to its injuries, the animal’s expression reflected great pain and fear. It’s a shame that it had to part like that, but such is life in the jungle. It can be harsh and cruel sometimes. Not all deaths are quick and free of suffering.

You regret thinking of this wolf as dumb. In the end, it was a fellow predator that fought to the end, clinging to life as best as it could, and it deserves all your respect for it. It’s an honor to have felled this mighty creature in battle without the help of your pack...

>Dink's EXP: 160 / 200 (+100 EXP)

... And yet, you can’t shake off the feeling that your victory was unclean. You used the wooden spear instead of asserting dominance with your claws and teeth alone. There’s no pleasure and honor to be gained from hunting with it. It goes against the core of your nature, no matter how much you try to convince yourself that it’s a valid tool to use in combat.

>(Dink is growing hateful of the wooden spear. From now on, you will receive only 75% of normal EXP when killing creatures if you use it at any point during the fight. This encounter won’t count though.)

However, a part of you acknowledges that you’ll probably have to get used to it, especially during these days. Perhaps one day, you'll be as strong as a female lioncat, and then you won't need the pointy stick any longer, as no one will stand on your path. But that day hasn't come yet, so you’ll have to use all resources available to succeed in the dragon hunt, including potions and weapons.

That is… as long as you don’t end up poisoning Gnarth so that you don't have to worry about the task anymore, though slaying her with your own hands would be SO much better. It’s a shame that you can’t fight her In front of everyone, as her loyal female followers would overwhelm you. Even if you emerge victorious, they’d never accept the idea of a male being superior to them.

The only woman who dislikes Gnarth is Elizabeth, the previous leader of the pride. Gnarth defeated her in combat and took over, and she has a permanent grudge with her since then. You’re pretty sure she’d be happy if Gnarth was dead.

Before you go, there's a snack in front of you waiting to be engulfed. Devouring the wolf's meat will speed up your body's healing rate and close your bleeding wound, so you better get to it already.

Right before you chew on the corpse, a big brain idea crosses your mind - the canine's skin may serve as body protection. Centaurs use clothes to protect themselves from heat and cold, but there's no reason that the hide of this resilient animal shouldn't also make you resistant to attacks. The extra defense will be useful.

Surely, it can't be as cowardly as using a spear... wearing a pelt may be honorable even, as it's the trophy of your hunting achievement. Regardless, you already accepted that you'll use all resources at your disposal during these days, whether you like it or not.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the pain of your wound, which is dripping with blood.

>Dink's HP: 79 / 195 (-5 HP from bleeding)

"Less thinking, more eating" you tell yourself before taking a mouthful of the corpse, partially closing your wound. Once you feel better, you use your claws to skin it as fast as possible.

Despite being your first time doing this, you find the results pretty... acceptable.

After skinning the wolf, you decide it's time to fill your belly properly. With your mouth wide open, you latch onto the corpse and start chewing. The meat is... edible, but mediocre. It's bitter, dry and hard to chew, but it's still better than nothing.

Now that you've finished your meal, you have to return to Amelia's camp and fetch the poison. You're still not sure if it ought to be used on Gnarth - would the poison affect her at all, considering how powerful she is? You don't want to imagine what would happen if she finds out about your assassination attempt...

Maybe it's best to go along with her task. Gnarth is not as forgiving as Elizabeth was back when she was still the matriarch, so angering her may lead to a fate worse than being exi-

Wait a moment... now that you think about it, Elizabeth could be a potential ally against Gnarth! You still remember the times under her rule. Although males have always been the underdogs in all lioncat prides, life was not THAT bad when Elizabeth was in charge. She's leagues better than Gnarth, at least!

Maybe you two can come up with a plan to get rid of her... you bet she'd love to regain her lost authority. It would be a much easier solution to your problems. The enemy of your enemy is your friend, or that's how the saying goes.

The only issue is that you rejected her training offer a while ago. You'll probably have to "apologize" for your past "insolence" if you want to work alongside her.

Before seeking more prey, you wear the wolf pelt on your back and check your image reflection in a near lake to see what it looks like.

Stylish! Skinning the wolf was a good idea. Maybe you'll establish a new trend among lioncats with these hot looks.

(An hour later...)

After a good while of searching for another tasty animal to fill your belly with, you finally stumble upon two boars. They're busy fighting each other, completely unaware of your presence. The one on the left is evidently losing the fight - it's right hindleg is broken and its body has many more wounds than the other boar.

You only have one thing in mind - to DODGE! You quickly sidestep to the left and the boar's tusks graze your right leg! If you moved a little slower, you'd have been impaled!

The furious prey squeals aggresively, then prepares for second charge! You wait for the right moment to evade... NOW!

As you quickly jump out of the way, the boar's tusks miss you again, just as closely to impaling you as the first time! These close calls make the fight more exciting, but at this rate, sooner or later you'll make a mistake and get hit!

The pig should be dead by now, but it's still kicking in as if nothing happened! How long will it take before its body finally gives up?!

As you prepare to dodge the boar's third charge... the animal suddenly stops sprinting in the middle of its attack and falls to the ground, dying on the spot.

>Boar's HP: 0 / 80 (Dead)

All it took was a second for a boar to go from vibrant and full of energy, to a limp corpse. Considering how long it lasted in battle, it was inevitable.

It would be foolish to underestimate the strength of these animals. Boars may be prey, but they have killed unexperienced lioncats in the past who thought they're easy game. Uncoincidentally, all of them were males.

Now that the pig is dead, you can enjoy its delicious meat in pea-

::: LEVEL UP :::

Dink advances to level 3! (Lioncat Warrior)

>HP has increased to 250
>STR has increased to 17
>AGI has increased to 9
>You have earned a free reroll that can be used at any point in the quest
>You have earned a free perk: Adept Fighter (Permanent +5 bonus to all Accuracy and Evasion rolls)

>Choose one (1) perk to level up:

1) Silent Predator
Gain a permanent +15 bonus to all Sneak rolls and they cannot critically fail, which means rolling a 1 won't botch your stealth attempts)

2) Fast Metabolism
Recover 2x more HP from devouring creatures, and the effects of all potions you drink are 20% stronger

3) Healthy Adrenaline
Regenerate (0.5% x BELLY) HP per combat action. This perk works only during battle

4) Quick Learner
All EXP earned from all sources is increased by 50%

5) Disaster Bringer (Unique to Jinxed trait)
Enemies's chance for a critical failure is increased to a roll of 1, 2 or 3, while your chance for a critical success is increased to a roll of 98, 99 or 100

6) Steel Hide (UNIQUE to Bruiser trait)
All physical damage taken is lowered by 10 points (flat reduction) OR 10% (percentage reduction). Whichever offers better damage reduction will take preference over the other.

====================

(If you have any doubt about these perks' mechanics, feel free to ask)

Last update for tonight.

>6) Steel Hide
Yeah, "hide" of steel...
>>
>>4563662
>Steel Hide (UNIQUE to Bruiser trait)
This. 100x this. Will come so clutch if we really want to kick that dragon's arse. Quick Learner's also good but a bit too lacking in utility.

Also, got a question for the Fast Metabolism one. Does 20% extra power also increase the duration of a potty if it's a temporary one? Could see it come in handy for the fire or levitation pots if it's like that.

>>4563667
See you later
>>
>>4563682
Yeah, both the power of the effects and their duration is increased by 20%.
>>
>>4563686
Awesome. This can be pretty useful for later

Guys this could help us become stronger faster, sure some bonuses in combat sounds good but we need more stats.
>>
>>4563662
>All physical damage taken is lowered by 10 points (flat reduction) OR 10% (percentage reduction). Whichever offers better damage reduction will take preference over the other.
>>
>>4563797
You know what will also make us stronger faster? Abilities that let us fight stronger enemies and abilities that will give us more extremely good encounters..
>>
>>4563857
Didnt you vote for disaster bringer?
>>
>>4563662
>6) Steel Hide (UNIQUE to Bruiser trait)
>All physical damage taken is lowered by 10 points (flat reduction) OR 10% (percentage reduction). Whichever offers better damage reduction will take preference over the other.
>>
>>4563860
Yes. Disaster bringer makes us 3x as likely to get an extremely good encounter, for example with ?????????. Also I think it could be funny
>>
>>4563902
It would be funny, but its still a 3% chance of a crit with rolls. And if we can level up faster we can gain these perks faster, also we gain xp on different stuff other than hunting.
by the way what do we get xp on in general?
>>
>>4563662
Steel Hide (UNIQUE to Bruiser trait)
All physical damage taken is lowered by 10 points (flat reduction) OR 10% (percentage reduction). Whichever offers better damage reduction will take preference over the other.
A simple but powerful ability, the XP gain one is good but will in the end leave us with one less perk
>>
>>4563981
Wont we gain more as we level up? which can be done quicker with that trait?
>>
>>4563988
From what I've understood there is a level cap so yes, we will get there faster but we will be weaker in the end
>>
>>4563990
I am going to wait for qm to confirm.
>>
>>4563914
From now on, other sources of EXP besides fighting are:
>Train (Gain 5% of your max EXP per hour)
>Be trained by someone else (EXP gain per hour depends on the teacher)
>Sneaking (A successful steath attempt will grant you EXP equal to the DC)
>Bring ingredients to Amelia (Gain EXP equal to the amount of ingredients brought)
>Other non-combat STR and AGI checks
All of these EXP gains are increased by 50% with Quick Learner.

>>4563991
Yes the default level cap is 10. Which means you won't get more perks after level 9 because you get one perk each 3 levels (level 3, 6, 9...)

There are a few ways to increase your level cap but they are rare and hidden.
>>
>>4564008
>>4564008
That is a solid amount of exp gains, and the chance of maybe increasing the cap is good enough for me to keep my decision.
>>
>>4563914
A 3% chance is pretty solid. Rolls happen a lot; consider got fucked over 3 times by a critical success/failure that has a 1% chance.

>NEW PERK: Steel Hide

>+60 EXP from Boar

This newfound resilience and strength... it's phenomenal! You've never felt so strong and capable as a hunter in your entire life!

And yet, despite this rush of power, you are nowhere close to your peak. You just *know* your powers can grow further if you keep training, and the pace at which they are is incredible! It's possible that you're as strong as a female lioncat now - all in a single day of work!

Is this how women view the world? No wonder they're so arrogant. They feel with the right to abuse the weak because they're born inherently stronger than males. Unlike you, they have never experienced what it's like to be at the bottom.

Maybe... maybe you CAN beat the dragon, if you train hard enough. That would teach your pride that not all men are pushovers. You've been mistreated for long enough... now it's time to rise up!

"Heh." A quiet laugh escapes your lips. It's all so strange! No matter how much you trained before, your strength would never rise above average for a man. Why are you becoming so strong all of a sudden? Maybe all the pressure that Gnarth put on you is awakening an underlying potential...

The answer is a mystery, at least for now. Maybe it's all in your genes, or Mother Nature decided to bless you for your guts. Whether or not you find the answer to your abnormally quick progress, you'll make the best use of it.

As the rush of power wears down, you gradually return back to your senses. A succulent snack lies before you.

Before you can come up with a response, you suddenly hear voices in your head telling you what to do. They’ve started appearing since last night, and have been present all day…

All of them have been suggesting that you take different courses of action depending on the situation, and they also help you with your reasoning. You appreciate their guide, and you know they care about helping you succeed in your goals... but their presence is making you worried about your mental health.

Maybe you’re just stressed due to Gnarth’s task… yeah, that must be it. Once you’re done with this quest, all will be back to normal. You’re sure of it.

>"This was for the hug, wasn't it?"
>Apologize for the earlier hug (bummed out, exposition to a caring female)

Amelia’s voice interrupts your train of thoughts. "I cut a piece of my blanket to improvise it" Amelia adds in about her poncho. "It was getting cold, and..."

Yeah, right. You know exactly why she made it. It's so awkward it hurts. "This was for the hug, wasn't it?"

Amelia averts her gaze. After a second of uncomfortable silence, she looks back at you and decides to be honest. "Sorry, Dink. I know you wanted to show affection in your lioncat ways... it's just that hugging each other when one is naked is, uh... something centaurs only do with their lovers, or… people we've known for a very long time. I hope you understand..."

She scratches the back of her head and averts her eyes off yours again. It gives you the impression that she's trying to pick her words carefully to avoid hurting you. "Forgive me. I know that being naked is not a big deal for your species, so I must be coming across as annoying... am I?"

"No, it's me who should apologize" you finally admit. "I was feeling bummed at the moment and it's been a looooong time since I've met a friendly woman... well, asides from my mom before I grew up and she forsaked me. I didn't know how to react, Amelia. I just couldn't resist a hug."

"By the Gods..." Amelia tilts her head and gives you a sad, pitiful look. "Lioncat men lead very harsh lives. Now I feel bad for not hugging you back... you really needed it, didn't you?"

You shrug. "Don't worry about it. I won't do it again."

For the first time, Amelia approaches you, removes the pelt on your head and willingly pats you. The unexpected touch startles you for a moment, but after you realize that she has nothing but good intentions, you give in to her gesture of affection. It feels SO nice... being caressed by a gentle female makes your mind regress back to when you were a cub, making you remember feelings you forgot you ever had.

Goddammit! Why can't lioncat women be as sweet as she is? They're all so terrible that even females of other species are more appealing!

>Give ingredients + boar pelt. Ask if she can work it into clothes
>Fetch poison
>Request focus potion

"That was nice…" you murmur as Amelia finishes stroking you. She returns a kind smile.

A chucke escapes her lips. "I'll still be wearing the poncho though, haha! Don't get me wrong, I was going to make one eventually. Walking around naked is something I’ll never get used to!"

"It’s alright" you shrug it off. Centaurs’ sense of privacy is silly, but if it makes her feel better about herself, then whatever.

With that settled, you open the pouch to show Amelia all the plants and herbs you’ve gathered. She enthusiastically rummages through them. "This is great!” your friend merrily exclaims. “There are plants I’ve never seen before; I wonder if I can make a potion with them…" Amelia rubs her hands with a wide grin, revealing how excited she is about a potential discovery. “I’m so grateful, Dink!”

>-20 Alchemical Ingredients
>EXP: 40 / 400 (+20 EXP)

“It’s my pleasure” you reply. Before meeting her, you never saw any use in these plants, but it seems there's more to them that you thought. What's disposable trash for some, is a yummy boar for others.

Speaking of boars, that reminds you that you still have a pelt in your hands. Maybe Amelia knows how to work it into clothes that bring you better protection...

"Hey, I brought this pelt” you grab her attention. “Can you make protective clothes with it?” Amelia stares at the animal’s skin for a moment, tilting her head. “Well… I could give it a try, but I’m not a good clothier. All I did to make this poncho was cut a circle in the blanket to fit my head through.”

“I could probably make you... uh..." Her eyes get fixed in your crotch, but quickly averts them. "... a loincloth, Dink. It’s a piece of cloth that covers you down there.”

“Yeah, my boys could use protection” you agree with her, remembering the incident with the giant rat that bit your crotch. You don’t want that to happen *ever* again, so you hand her the boar pelt.

>-1 Boar Pelt

Amelia examines it, then gazes back at you. “By the way, the bark poison is ready.” She signals you to follow her through a wide crack in the cave that barely fits both of you, leading to a room with all her strange alchemist tools.

Resting on top of a rock, there’s a flask holding green liquid. Your friend grabs it and gives it to you. “It works by ingestion or by injecting it in the animal’s blood flow. Be careful when handling it!”

“Gotcha” you respond, and put the poison inside your pouch.

>+1 Bark Poison

“Can I request a focus potion now?” you ask Amelia. A potion that prevents you from being knocked out from an unlucky hit like it happened with Leo could be a life saver.

Your friend nods. “Sure! It’ll be ready in an hour. It’s getting late, though, so if you don’t come to fetch it today, I’ll keep it stashed for tomorrow.”

>Ask if you can do her another favor

You’re so grateful for Amelia’s help that you want to do her an extra favor. It’s fair, considering all she’s doing to aid you in your task. “Do you need anything else besides ingredients?” you ask.

Amelia looks like she’s about to shake her head, but stops at the last moment and scratches her chin instead, considering your offer. “Hmm… there’s one thing, I guess… but…”

She’s silent for a second, then gazes back at you, smiling and turning her head side to side. “Don’t worry about it. I’m more than happy with the ingredients, and we both benefit from it. It’d be rude to ask you to do something that won’t help you against the dragon.”

“It’s fiiiine” you insist. “Just tell me what you ne-” Before you can finish your sentence, Amelia makes a little hop of excitement and claps her hands in the air. “You sure?! That's great!”

Huh… looks like she knew your answer beforehand. “I’m just wondering if you can bring me mangos and bananas” Amelia explains while rubbing her palms together. “Centaurs LOVE fruits, and those are my favorites!”

“So you like fruits...” you remark, curious about her peculiar taste on food. Lioncats absolutely hate them - meat is all you want and need.

“I’ll see if I can bring a few in my next visit” you tell her, agreeing to her simple request. Amelia nods and licks her lips. “That would be awesome, Dink… but I understand if you have more important things to do. Like dealing with the dragon, you know.”

>Ask if she knows how diplomatic bunnydogs are

Right before saying goodbye and returning to the jungle, you suddenly remember to warn Amelia about the bunnydog clan. There's nothing diplomatic about those cowardly creatures - without a doubt, they'll try to eat her at first sight. She must steer away from them and be careful not to stray into their territory.

“Have you encountered any bunnydogs?” you ask her. “They’re beastmen with bunny ears and dog snouts that live to the south of here.”

“Bunnydogs, huh?” Amelia tries to hold her laughter, probably at the ridiculous name of their species. “No, I haven’t met them. Are they nice fellows?”

“Hell no!” you exclaim. “Stay away from them, they’re treacherous liars. They’ll feign friendship if one of them meets you, but as soon as you let your guard down, they’ll surround and ambush you!”

A look of surprise and concern appears on Amelia’s face. “Oh, err… that’s good to know. I’ll stay away from the south, then. Forever!”

(NOTE: In this jungle, dusk begins at 19:30. Lioncats will generally stop hunting and return to their packs by then, right before night falls at 20:00)

You stare outside - it’s been a while. If you want to talk to Elizabeth today, it should be done before night time. There isn’t enough privacy to chat with her in the pack’s territory.

“I’ll return to my tasks” you explain, waving Amelia away as you walk towards the exit of the cave. “See ya’ soon. If I don’t come back in an hour or two, we’ll meet again tomorrow.”

Your friend returns the wave for a second, but then opens her mouth in surprise, as if she remembered something. "Wait! I almost forgot! I've been reading my notes about tropical ingredients during these hours... and I learned that I could make a powerful potion that would let you face the dragon in direct combat!”

"What? For real?!” you exclaim in awe.

====================

TIME: 18:10

Amelia spends a while explaining the nature of this potion called ‘Divine Juice’. It’s a brew that grants amazing strength, toughness and speed for a single minute, but its effects are so great that it’s more than enough to sweep the floor with a dragon’s face.

The only catch is that it requires a rare ingredient – Gaia’s Tear. You thought it was a literal tear when you heard the name, but Amelia chuckles when you tell her and explains that it’s actually a mushroom that grows in the depths of tropical caves. It's easily distinguishable by its intense cyan glow in the dark. She shows you a depiction of Gaia's Tear in yet another one of her strange centaur objects - this one is called a ‘book’.

Your friend also explains that she needs a Xunder Root and a flask worth of Giant Bee honey to make a Fire Immunity and Levitation potion respectively, as the Divine Juice won’t grant you the ability to fly, nor it'll protect you against the dragon’s breath. Those potions are, as she puts it, ‘crucial’ if you want to go for a direct combat approach.

Amelia explains that the ingredient called Xunder Root can be found in swampy tropical zones.

The ogre territory to the southwest of your pack immediately comes to mind. You’d have to go there prepared if you want to search for it, as the ogres don’t take it kindly to invaders.

As for the giant bee honey, Amelia doesn’t know where to find it… but you do.

Giant Bees live among kobolds - little pacifist creatures who are fond of honey, fruits and vegetables. Many of their tribes can be found to the northeast of your pack, and they’re in fact established near the combs from which they gather honey. For some reason, the bees don't attack them.

You’d probably have to sneak into a kobold tribe at night, infiltrate their comb and gather the bees’ honey once you’re inside. To avoid being attacked by the hundreds of bees that guard their treasure, you’d have to use a repellent.

Amelia thinks she can make a Repellant Potion with the ingredients in her inventory, but it’ll take her three to four days to study their properties and come up with an exact recipe.

“If you bring me those three ingredients, I can make all the potions you need to face the dragon with great odds of success” she concludes. “Of course… this is only in case there are no safer approaches we can think of.”

Alright. Considering all you’ve learned so far, you see two different ways to complete your quest.

You can do things the hard –and fun- way, and challenge the dragon in battle with the help of Amelia’s potions. If you train hard enough and drink the Fire Immunity potion, the Levitation brew and the Divine Juice, you’d probably stand a very good chance against the flying beast.

... Or you can avoid all that hassle and simply convince Elizabeth to help you remove Gnarth from her position of power. It’s a faster solution, though you won’t get the pleasure of shoving it in her face that you killed a dragon against everyone’s expectations.

Hmm… what to do?

1) Choose one of these options
>You should talk to Elizabeth and help her become the leader again. No need to risk your neck needlessly.
>You should gather the ingredients Amelia told you about and kill the dragon with the help of her potions. It’ll bring you respect among the pride members, including the females.
>You shouldn’t make a decision yet. Continue hunting, bringing ingredients to Amelia and growing stronger during these days, and see if more options are revealed on the way.
>Write in

2) Choose one of these options
>Continue talking to Amelia (write in a topic or a question)
>Say goodbye and leave the cave
>Write in

>Ask Amelia if she's heard of a mental enchancing potion

Three to four days to inspect ingredients for the repellant sounds pretty rough, maybe with an INT enchance she could get the job done faster.

Also, there is no way we are not shoving the dragon's head into Gnarth's face.

Screw talking to Elizabeth. You’ll kick that dragon’s ass and shove it in everyone’s faces! Nobody will believe how strong you’ve become!

You need Amelia to make the bee repellant as soon as possible, though. Waiting three to four days for it is too much. Maybe she should drink a mind-enhancing potion to work faster - potions have all kinds of crazy effects, so there’s bound to be one that enhances her intelligence.

“Hey Amelia, three to four days to make the repellant is a lot" you explain. "Isn’t there a mental enhancing potion you can drink so you can test the ingredients faster?”

She remains silent for a second before answering. “Umm… no, I don’t think I can make a brew like that with my current ingredients.”

“That’s a shame” you reply. “So there’s no way to speed up the process?”

Your friend shakes her head. “It's not really a matter of how fast I work - it’s more that I have to wait for the compounds to rest so I can observe their evolving effects and properties, and come up with the right formulas by studying the results. Alchemy is a discipline that requires lots of patience if it's to be done right.”

A sigh of disappointment escapes your lips. “That's a bummer.”

Amelia lays her hand on your shoulder, which immediately snaps you out of your dispirited state. “I know you’re anxious to complete Gnarth’s task as soon as possible, but you can search for the other ingredients in the meanwhile. It’ll probably take you a few days to find a Xundar Root and a Gaia’s Tear, and the repellant will be ready by then!”

You meditate on her words. “Yeah, you’re right. Guess I’ll be searching for those for now.”

You say goodbye and walk towards the exit of the cave.

"Whenever you need another headpat, just ask” you hear Amelia say as she waves you away. If you had a tail and were a dog, you’d probably be wagging it in happiness right now!

“Gimme one now!” Without a second thought, you turn back, approach her and lower your head to get stroked one more time. She complies and pats your head with her warm, soft hands. It’s the best thing ever!

“Wow, you really like this, don’t you? I didn’t know big cats could purr” your friend remarks about your cat sounds.

Don't really think we should head straight to the Treasure Cave. Ogre swamps are kind of out of the question since Ogres are probably dummy strong.

So to gather some info and boast a bit (without mentioning what happened with Leo), best if we just go back to our bros.

>>
>>4571117
The most dangerous enemies of Ogre Swamps are ogres (high HP and STR, low AGI), swamp serpents (venomous) and trolls (regeneration, weakness to fire). It's recommended you go here prepared to deal with these threats, probably with a ranged weapon (or simply throw spears at the slow enemies) and antidotes (they'll soon be available in Amelia's camp thanks to the ingredients you brought)

Death Mountain is self-explanatory

Bunnydog Clan will attack you on sight. You'd have to be ready to face near a hundred bunnydogs, which are (on average) as strong as a level 2 Dink without special traits. It's recommended you go here after learning AoE attacks if you want to wipe them out, they provide a hefty EXP bonus

Treasure Cave has aggressive monsters compared to the Hunting Grounds, but an average female lioncat (level 3-4) can handle herself relatively fine here. Some creatures you ought to watch out in the cave are blood-sucking bats (HP steal) and slimes (they may trap you in their bodies and asphyxiate you if you're too careless)

On the way to your clan, you suddenly hear a familiar voice through the bushes. The high-pitched tone reveals it to belong to your buddy Shrimp. He sounds angry and desperate, as if the world was about to end. "AAAGGGGHHH WE WERE SO CLOSE!!! SO. FREAKING. CLOSE!!! WHYYYYY!!!"

If you had a boar everytime you heard him yell like that, you wouldn't need to eat for the rest of your life. Judging from his yells, your four buddies are likely there. Maybe they couldn't catch whatever prey they were chasing, and are now throwing a fit. It happens very often, even when you hunt with them.

Either way, you doubt it's anything important. Should you check on them anyway or just return to the pack and sleep till' tomorrow?

You approach the source of all the shouting and, as expected, you stumble upon Jack, Dakoh, Shrimp and Liam. They're all sitting down, contemplating existence with a depressed look on their faces.

"Hey Dink, how are y- woah! Nice wolf pelt you've got there!" Jack greets you, surprised at your new attire. He seems slightly uplifted by your presence. "Did you kill a wolf to get it?! That's amazing!"

"Yeah" you tell him with a proud smile. "It was a fierce battle, but it was wor-"

"Yo, big guy, next time come hunt with us when the day starts" Dakoh interrupts you with an annoyed tone, completely ignoring your cool new looks. "We REALLY missed your presence, man. The four of us couldn't hunt a single freaking animal in the entire day! We are stuck in a streak of bad luck!"

"And you know what's the worst of all?" he exclaims. His head looks so red that it seems like it's about to explode. "We caught and killed an impala a few minutes ago, but four bunnydogs appeared out of nowhere and STOLE it from us!" He pauses in to breathe, his eyes boiling with rage. "I dunno' about you, guys, but I'm FURIOUS right now! I want to rip those abominations' heads apart, then piss on their skulls and... and..."

"You say all that, but in the end you won't do anything" Liam jumps in. "None of us will, because we're weak, lame and useless." Dakoh shrugs and murmurs something you cannot hear.

Shrimp continues yelling hopelessly. "AAAHHH... WE'RE GOING TO STARVE!!!"

Liam sighs loudly, which signals that he's about to share one of his -usually pessimistic- observations. "What does it matter? There's nothing worth living for in this miserable jungle. If we starve to death, all our suffering ends. We'd end up winning."

Jack tries to cheer the boys up. "Okay, guys, that's enough self-pitying. No sense on getting stuck in the past. Sure, we ate nothing today, but I'm sure things will be better tomorrow. We'll have to get used to hunting without Dink's help - he needs to train on his own to complete the stupid task that Gnarth gave him. We can't waste his time by begging him to help us."

All your buddies are silent. Dakoh is the first one to break it with a defeated remark. "I'm so hungry..."

Anons, I have some news regarding this quest and the others I’ve been running for the past year to this day (Kobold/Gnoll/God Quest). I’ve been giving it a lot of thought and I must be honest.

Now that college is over, many things will change IRL. I’ll start working in a few months, but during this time I’ll learn to make videogames, both out of passion and for income. This means I won’t be able to focus on questing as I usually do.

I’ll be running on weekends from now on, but with this new schedule, finishing my four pending quests would take years. QMing is a fun hobby but I don’t think I’d invest in it for that long, so unfortunately I must part ways with some quests.

It’s been too long since I ran Kobold Quest, and God Quest and this one were intended to be much shorter, so it saddens me to announce that these are unlikely to continue. As for Gnoll Quest, I’ll stick to it and keep running till its end. The 4th thread will start this month.

Thanks everyone for participating in these stories and I’m sorry for letting the curse take over. I didn’t want that to happen but I underestimated the time and effort that goes into this medium. Still, I think the experience was def worth it.

I’ll share some pics I had ready beforehand for this quest. A sort of “what could have been”.

After Dink shows his friends the spear and teaches them how to make one, he would’ve returned to the pack, only to find out that a female saw him and told the others. Gnarth and her followers (except Elizabeth and other women who aren’t too fond of her) would’ve beaten him to a pulp for being dishonorable, and to add to the pain, Gnarth would discount 5 days from him to beat the dragon.

Depressed and let down, Dink would’ve fallen asleep and dream of his new friend, the first woman to ever show him affection. However, something would go wrong in this dream.

A mysterious totem would appear in front of Dink, brainwashing him into believing he’s useless trash. The totem would force him into accepting its powers, and then you’d be prompted to either let Dink give in or help him resist the totem’s influence and wake up.

Later on, it would’ve been revealed that this totem is the manifestation of the collective consciousness of an ascended race of evil aliens. Their goal is to bring entropy to the universe by devouring planets from the inside. The totem is sealed in the depths of the Treasure Cave, and it wants Dink to break the seal.

If you let Dink accept the powers, you’d have probably sacrificed Amelia to the Totem at some point. If you didn’t, then it would’ve brainwashed the bunnydogs, and they’d capture her for sacrifice. Dink then has the option to assault their clan and rescue Amelia.

The voices in Dink’s head are the players, but they’re also part of the ACTUAL character you control in the quest: all of you are Many-As-One, a godlike being who protects the universe from threats like the Totem. You possessed a random intelligent creature in the jungle (Dink) to control its body and destroy the Totem for once and for all, but the sheer effort of incarnation broke your mind, rendering you schizophrenic and wiping out your memories. That’s why you guys never knew this, though you can still tell Dink’s soul what to do and (partly) influence his thought process.

The presence of your divine soul in Dink’s body is why he has grown so much stronger in a single day, and his powers would’ve kept growing. Exponentially.

All the stuff with the dragon is a distraction. The TRUE final boss of the quest is the Totem. However, there’d be also been the possibility that you guys completed the quest without ever finding out. The Totem would’ve kept sealed in the cave, waiting for a new person capable of freeing it.
