Your name is Gob, and after spending a long time in the absolute darkness and losing your memories, you've been 'summoned' into a place known as the New Light Foundation, dedicated to research paranormal activities and 'anomalies'. After meeting Dr. Grey, a scientist who works in this mysterious foundation, you found yourself inside a painful experience and decided to escape. Discovering that perhaps you're not as human as you thought you were, you've been exploring the facility, collecting strange items, facing a fierce creature, and seeing yourself inside a lot of trouble. You're currently at the "Anomalous Objects" Floor and just found the exit door is open!

Your current inventory is:

> Strange Watch
> Level 1 Keycard
> 1 Cigarette
> Tribal Mask
> "Morph Ball"

----

Welcome again to Duke of Darkness quest!

Information

> Write ins are always encouraged!

> Rolls are mostly Bo3 with crit override (with 1-5 being crit fails and 95-100 being crit success). When it's not stated otherwise, the DC will always be 50

>Go into the stairs (down two floors)
>use the flaming ball to light your cigarettin
You step through the door, sideways so the door doesn't bump you. You move skipping among the still motionless guards and into the stairs.

Going downstairs, you feel how the silence becomes overwhelming, with no voices, no footsteps except for yours, nothing. You remember the cigarette in your pocket and now you've got a way to light it. Taking it and reaching into your jacket for the fireball, you use the flames to light the cigar and then you save the sphere in a pocket of your jacket again.

As you keep moving down, you put the lit cylinder in your mouth and inhale. You feel how the hot, burning smoke goes down your throat and reaches your lungs, making you cough and leave a smoke cloud around you as you feel the, honestly awful, cigarette taste. You assume it's a reflex for not smoking in a long time did you even smoke before? and you just continue, leaving a trail of smoke as you get to the lowest floor.

The first thing you see is a bunch of bodies in the ground, not moving, with broken armor parts and weapons like the others. You think all of them are dead until you notice a guard is moving, well, his hand is moving, to be precise.

The door is open, and you see now that it has a sign like the other floors, and it says "[1] CAGE". It's nothing you haven't seen, after all, you were in a cage here, like, a while ago.

When you were about to get outside, you look to your left and catch sight of a group of guards seemingly patrolling. You instinctively step back into the room and hide behind a wall, hearing how their footsteps get closer until they stop apparently just in front of the door.

"Hotel-2-9 reporting in, Cleaning services required at first floor, emergency stairs sector, over." you hear one of the guards say, then you hear someone sniffing.

"Do you smell that?" another guard asks.

"174, I've told you to not smoke during rounds!" the first guard shouts.

"It wasn't me!" a third voice says.

"...If that's true, you know what to do, split, check the perimeter!" the first voice orders.

"Yes, Sir!" three voices say in unison, followed by a simultaneous click sound.

You hear how three pairs of footsteps move away, but one of them is getting closer, just about to get inside the room!

> 67, Success!

Without thinking twice, you prepare and, as soon as the guard steps inside the room, you punch him to take him down. The blow connects to his face, part of his helmet's glass cracks, and he drops his weapon as he falls unconscious to the ground without even having a chance to call for help or defend himself, taken down effectively.

As he lays on the ground, you notice his helmet was -not- tainted black when you touched him. It kind of surprises you, as he's the first person you've made physical contact with who seems unaffected by your touch.

Now without the guard, you make your way to the cage floor, looking around as you get out to make sure you don't get seen. Seemingly, all the other guards are gone, but you know that they must be patrolling the place, and you don't know if those three are the -only- ones around the area.

As you step outside, you hear the distant flute song from before, whoever is playing it hasn't stopped. You also hear footsteps echoing, you assume they're from the guards. Besides of that, some animal-like sounds can be heard from inside the cages around you, but they're muffled and sound more... Relaxed than the ones from that hellish creature. Some of the cages are suspended in the air by chains, others are just placed in the ground, but all of them have a control panel with levers and buttons in front of them.

You decide to follow the flute song coming from the distance. But before going ahead, you take a moment and turn back.

"My most humble apologies sir, but thank you for your cooperation." You apologize to the guard. He's passed out and perhaps didn't hear you, but manners are first.

You start walking through the halls formed by cages, keeping your distance with the patrol footsteps, and avoiding the guards as you change your path, trying to stay away so they can't follow the smoke or its smell. As you move, you think about that guard, his armor wasn't affected by your touch, so that could mean the darkness doesn't spread through objects or clothing! wait, wasn't that lady using gloves? And that kross guy using a coat covering his neck...? Huh...

You think you're at the middle of this warehouse-like floor when you can hear the sound more clearly, you can recognize it's a very joyful song, but you don't really know -what- song it is. However, it still sounds far, like coming from the floor's far end.

As you keep getting closer moving between cells, you can hear more muffled sounds coming from them, including mumbling, growls, chirps and mechanical pieces moving, until you finally arrive to the source of the sound, and it's, in fact, at the far end of the floor.

You stand in front of a cage, it's on the ground and separated from the wall, with solid light walls and a control panel as the others. Whoever is playing the cheerful song seems to be enjoying it, because it hasn't stopped its rhythm and doesn't sound like they're planning to.

The control panel in front of you has a lever and two buttons, one red, one green. And next to them you see a groove, with a yellow line alongside and a flickering, also yellow, light coming from inside. You try to move the lever, but it stays locked in place, you assume the buttons won't work either. You probably need to slide a card to unlock it, but if you guess right, a yellow one, the one you have is, unfortunately, green... Perhaps you could use -another- way to unlock the controls, you know breaking the whole thing worked well to open the cages!

Also, looking behind the cage, you see a locked door, with buttons next to it, like the one from the 'elevator room' you were earlier. You inhale and exhale smoke as you think what to do next.

> Destroy the panel!

You forget about it and just walk away, perhaps you can find more interesting cages around here, maybe one that at least only needs a green card.

You keep smoking your cigar as you move and the music becomes distant, the burning feel in your throat is gone by now, and although it's obviously not of the best quality, the experience is rather enjoyable, with a little sharpening of your senses every now and then. At the same time, you avoid the guards, a pretty easy task considering there are, like, four or five of them in all this -really- big place.

You walk past cages, some of them big, some smaller, but all with panels with blue, yellow and red in them, green seems to be very rare among the cells. You reach the right wall, and as far as you've walked, you've only found a few panels with green card locks:

At the first one, seems to be something like a dog inside, you heard little muffled barks coming from that cell.

At the second, probably some kind of machine, with different metallic pieces moving being heard, like a clock.

And the third, where you heard... Nothing, totally silent, maybe it's empty? Or the prisoner just doesn't like to make noise.

You also notice this wall has a door as well, but this one isn't double and has a red light. With the knowledge you've gathered lately, you know that means its locked, and you still have no idea how the gentlemen working here open them, as they have no locks, or even knobs but there's nothing a bit of destruction can't help, don't you think?

"Attention, I know you are hearing this message, and I suggest to turn yourself in, as if this continues I'll be forced to order use of more... Capacitated personnel, to get you if you don't cooperate." As you're thinking, you hear Grey's voice echoing again. "Needless to say that, eventually, this personnel could use means as -lethal force- to guarantee the security of this facility and the everyone inside. I have to say that, even when you used one of your... tricks to, somehow, disable our camera system, they'll find you, so I suggest you to be smart, Mr. Gob." He sounds like he means serious business. You probably need to get out of this building soon, as you don't know what he means by 'more capacitated'. Hold up, 'Camera system'?

If you are unlocking cages, why not just unlock all those you can with the card? Is this a terrible idea? Perhaps, but freeing the ones trapped inside the cells could have good results, or not, but you'll never know if you don't try!

You go and slide the card through the opening in the first panel, the barking cell one, making its walls disappear when you press the green button. A small quadruped creature comes out of it, it's the size of a dog, with very round and fluffy green hair, it has no eyes, but a big mouth sticking its tongue out. The little and somewhat cute thing jumps at your legs acting as a playful dog, you try to back down to avoid touching it but you just end falling on your back. Now on the ground, the green hairball climbs to your chest and licks your face, you find it really adorable but you're surprised that, somehow, the darkness isn't spreading to it at all, the little buddy is just licking your face, making noises compared, once again, to a dog while doing it, you would guess it's thanking you or something.

"Haha stop it Rufus!" you say as you take it to a side so you can stand up. Uh, wait, why did you called it like that?

You walk to the next panel, the clock-sounding one, and unlock it as well. You notice the green hairball is following you as the walls disappear. Inside, you see a humanoid figure looking to the opposite side, but seems entirely made of a metal like iron, with moving parts sticking out of its head. When it turns around, you see it has totally white eyes that emit light, and some kind of heart-shaped engine in his chest.

"Bzzzzt bzzz buzzt" he moves his mouth trying to communicate, but you can't understand if he's saying something.

The living machine walks to you, in a rather unnatural way, and extends his hand to you, and the fluffy thing is sniffing his feets, despite seemingly having no nose.

"Thaaaa-- bzzz-you." now that's something you can understand.

"You welcome." you respond, looking at his hand.

> Accept the handshake
> Don't

You reach the third and last cell, the one that is silent, with the iron-man and the little creature following. When you unlock the cell, you see a... Kid? Look like one, using some kind of red wool jacket and looking in opposite direction too, until it looks at you and you see his, well, 'weird part': a big eye is where his head should be. He gets out of the cell and looks directly at you, very silent, probably because of the fact that he has no mouth.

Just when you are thinking about how you haven't heard the guards in a while, you hear a pair of footsteps getting closer. You make a sign to the eye kid and the others to follow you and quickly go around some cells and return to the locked door, planning to open it.

> 63, Success!

You're about to punch it like you've done before when your hand stops abruptly, like -something- stopped, you quickly notice that -something- is your own body losing control again as you're looking through your eyes but unable to control your movements like before. Your body puts his open hand in front of your face and points to the sharp fingers with the other hand, like... Telling something to yourself. Still without control, you tear through the metal door with your claws like it's a piece of paper, making a space big enough to pass, and there's where you regain control.

You look back and the machine man is clapping, but slow and feeling unnatural as all his movements. You pass through the hole you just opened in the door and find yourself in a small corridor, with nothing but another locked door at the end... When you turn around to see the door where you came from, you see the machine man lifting the kid and the weird puppy so they can pass to the other side of the door, to finally enter by itself into the corridor.

"Bz Bzzzt" you hear him, but you still have no idea if that means anything.

You were about to accept the metal gentleman handshake when you reconsidered and decided to not do it. You don't know if he's immune to the darkness, you don't even know -what- is immune to it, so far you've just seen it -not- spread through that guard's armor and don't forget that fluffy little fella right here and... Well, objects, but somehow that doesn't apply to clothing... The nature of it is really confusing.

"Sir, I apologize for not responding to your greeting earlier, my intention was not that of being rude," you say once you all got inside the corridor and probably have some time to talk, "I just appear to be unable to make contact with anyone at the moment." you explain while raising your hand.

The man looks at it for a moment and then looks at you with a smile and nods, you assume that means that he understands. You also find it curious that his metal mouth bends to express emotions.

Now, back into business, you look at the door at the end of this hallway and prepare to slash through it. Technically you just did it, so it shouldn't be that hard to do it again! You raise your open hand and charge towards the door.

> 2, Crit Fail

You find it's not that easy when you actually break a small hole through it, but it's too small for someone to fit and you did it so badly that you feel like you just broke your hand, It hurts -a lot- How did you even managed to do it THAT bad?. To make the situation even worse, the door seems to have triggered an alarm! That will definitely draw someone's attention Again.

The metal man is looking through the hole you came through, the eye kid is looking directly to you again ...he's creepy, and the green hairball is rolling in the floor, like it doesn't like the loud noises produced by the alarm.

After your unsuccessful attempt, you turn back and ask the others for help with the door.

"Excuse me gentlemen, I may require some help here." you call their attention pointing behind you to the door. Just moving your hand hurts, but the pain seems to be decreasing.

The metal man turned back to see you, then looked at the door and walked to it, slowly and strange, followed by the eye kid. You notice see that ,as soon as you said that, the fluffy thing ran to the door and started biting it with its sharp teeth.

You were already starting to pierce through the metal with your other hand, better this time, when you saw the mechanical gentleman standing to your side.

"Excussssss-- E." though you notice he seems to have a problem to talk properly, you can understand some of his words, so you step back.

The metal man raises his hand, like pointing up, and a part of his index finger opens like a box. A really bright flame appears on it and he starts cutting through all the door frame with it, making a very precise line in very short time. Meanwhile, you see the weird dog is gone, and there's a hole of its size where it was biting.

In seconds, the man has done a line along the whole doorframe, and you see it starts moving, like the metal is going to fall. You notice how the kid is standing with his hands in front of him pointing at the door, and seems like he's trying to do something. And suddenly the now perfectly cut door starts flying, and descends slowly to the ground, leaving free the way inside.

Looking at where the door used to be, you see the green hairball sitting in the floor with its tongue out isn't it the cutest thing you've ever seen? and a tunnel going down with stairs. looks like there's less light down there, but you have no time to worry, the alarm is still on and the guards could get here any minute now.

You four begin to go downstairs, and the light around you decreases with every step, and the light produced by your cigarette is not that good now that it's less than half left, and the metal man eyes are not that bright either.

When you get downstairs, you see what looks like a system of tunnels, iluminated by dim red lights, and you hear loud noises at the distance, like produced by some kind of engine.

The eye kid seems to be shuddering, although he has no eyelids to express emotions, he looks scared Even scared he looks terrifying, huh? and is holding tightly the metal man hand now, he doesn't seem to be bothered by it.
>>
>>4495873

You keep walking through the dimly lit tunnel until you get to a part where it divides in three identical paths: one to the right, one to the left, one straight. The engine sounds echo through all three tunnels, so you have no way to tell which takes to it, or if all of them take to the same place. Perhaps you could split, but you don't think the eye kid would get away from the machine gentleman for now, not to mention you have no way to communicate with them if you get away from each other.

After a brief moment of thinking you decide to go to the right path, all together without splitting, after all, it's called "right" for a reason. But before you keep going, you take a last breath from the almost finished cigarette and take it out of your mouth, tossing it into the path next to the one you took, the front one, you see it bounce and roll slowly in the floor, leaving smoke behind. Your hand still hurts when you move it, but less than before.

With the security measure done, now you start walking into the right tunnel, followed by your fellow ex-prisoners you could call them 'partners in crime'! ...no?, moving through the dark hall, with the red lights barely letting you see what's right in front of you. Smoking was pleasing, but now the taste of your mouth is pretty... terrible, you really need some mint tea, or brushing your teeth, you would honestly use the whole toothpaste jar if you could.

After a while walking through the empty tunnel, you get to a corner that goes left, and you see a locked door in front of you, with its red light shining and a yellow light next to it coming from a card device So... If you want to open it, you know what you have to do.

"Gentlemen, would you be so kind and..." you say turning back and remembering the eye kid is probably too scared to do anything, and still grabbing the metal man hand, "...open the door for me?" you say to the man, pointing back to the door, he could help.

"Of --uuuuurse." he says while nodding, walking slowly to the door, accompanied by the trembling kid not letting go his hand. Meanwhile, Rufus is sniffing your shoes for some reason-- ...why did you called it like that again?

Once in front of the door, the mechanical gentleman uses his other hand and lits the 'torch' on his finger again. In a minute he makes another perfect cut into the door with the flame, but now the kid doesn't try to do anything, so the metal man pushes the door himself, making it fall and make a loud noise that echoes through the dark tunnels.

The door now open you see what's inside, well, actually not that much because it looks like there's no light source and is darker than the tunnels. You walk inside, at least the man's eyes work as a little lamp.

After some seconds inside, he found something in the wall and touches it.

-Click-

Suddenly the whole room has enough light to see what's inside: Boxes, wooden boxes, a lot of them, piled one over the other, dusty like no one has touched them in a long time. You look at him and he seems to have pushed a small lever, and above it you see a rusty metallic sign with black letters, the first sign you've seen here that's not made of black glass with red light letters.

The rust covers some of the letters but you can still read "A_CHI_ES".

The eye boy is looking at the metal man, not holding his hand anymore, and he's with his thumbs up and smiling trying to cheer up the kid. For the surprise of absolutely no one, his teeth are made of metal too.

While they do that, you walk to the one of the nearest boxes without more piled above it and you take the lid off. Inside, you see smaller and labeled cardboard boxes. You take one out, it says "TS:1074-1080", and when you open it you find a bunch of folders, man, this is ridiculous, what's inside? An envelope? it's labeled "TS-1080", inside you see some papers with what seems like a file of someone, with a colored picture of the bust of the person: a brown-haired middle age man, apparently using an orange shirt. You start to read the first page:

"Smith, Oliver"

"Status: [DECEASED]" it seens like it was stamped over the word 'Active'.

"Adquisition Date: 03/24/2011"

"Blood Type: O-"

There's more information in the page about him, like birth date, family, a detailed physical description: hair, eye and skin color... and apparently he had an 'Anchor-Shaped Tattoo' in the upper arm.

The next pages describe 'Incident 3606' and apparently, 'TS-1080' was exposed to 'S-004's Psychic effects', which resulted in... removal of his own eyes... causing major blood loss and eventual death, all that while... Singing...? Horrific.

Is this... some kind of complex joke? It's written with attention to the detail, like a real scientific file, so you don't think so.

Next folder is labeled "TS-1079", you're doubting if you actually need or want to keep reading these...

You take the next folder, "TS-1079", and start to read it.

It's Alcott Smith's file, his status is "DECEASED" as well, with the same family, adquisition and birth date, and almost identical physical description as Oliver, though you can see in his picture that his eyes were blue with shorter hair, but using the same orange shirt. 'Twins' is what comes to your mind.

In the next page, you read 'Incident 3607':

"At XX-XX-20XX, 1300 hours, T. Subject 1079 was found trying to steal possible-harmful foundation's technology while being part of an [Redacted] test procedure. As it represented a threat of future recidivism, subject was soon terminated." ...These guys -really- take theft a little too seriously.

The last page of the folder seems to be a note

"It's highly recommended to all personnel to avoid notifying subjects about recent family members demise, especially if such events happened inside a foundation facility. As it could increase the risk of suicidal and/or homicidal tendencies.

- Dr. XXXX"

Considering the alarm was triggered and it probably means someone must be following you, you quick-read through the remaining folders from 'TS-1078' to 'TS-1074'. You quickly notice that although the others don't have the same information or appearance as the Smith brothers, they all have two things common: the orange shirt in their pictures and the DECEASED stamp in their status. And like the first files, they have 'Incident' reports detailing the cause of their deaths:

"Incident 3610": TS-1078 was instructed to look directly at S-XXX's eyes, which resulted in his tissues turning into [Redacted] and suffocating shortly after.

"Incident 3614": TS-1077 and TS-1076 were found trying to escape their cells, and got terminated by security personnel.

"Incident 3631": in O-740's that number is... Familiar test number 3, TS-1075 was instructed to wear the item, which ended with the subject crying in fetal position. Next morning, she was found lying dead in the floor of her cell, with self-caused injuries in her wrists and the words "THERE'S NO SENSE" painted with blood in the wall.

"Incident 3650": During [Redacted] containment breach at XX-XX-XXXX, All individuals present in the test site (G-1008, G-333, TS-1074 and TS-1168) were found dead. Death cause determined to be cardiac arrest due to high electrical charge.

And that's the last folder of this box, you have to admit that it was quite... Shocking. You could keep reading literally all day only with the amount of file boxes inside this crate, but again, you probably haven't got a lot of time right now to do that. So you take the box with the higher number you could find, "TS:1500-1505", probably the most recent, and save it inside your coat alongside the first box. Still surprisingly, the jacket seems to always have a pocket where things fit, and it should have ran out of space by now, but you always feel free space in it.

> "TS:1074-1080" and "TS:1500-1505" file boxes obtained!

When you look back at the mechanical man, you see he has been reading files from another crate too, but seemingly not allowing the kid to do it, the green fellow is just moving around the room, smelling boxes. As soon as the machine notices you just finished reading, he closes the folder in his hands and returns it to the crate, and closing it again. And you close the crate you opened too.

"We need to move." you say as you head to the door, and they start to follow you. You need to keep going, staying here just would increase the possibility of getting caught, or shot again, and if they would do that to you, they surely would do it to them too.

-Click-

You hear as you get out of the room and it becomes dark, the dim red lights of the tunnels and the gentleman's eyes being the only light sources again. You keep moving through the corridor, leaving the room and the path you came from behind. After a while walking through the once again empty tunnel, you find another divided way, a path going left, and another going ahead, the loud engine sounds are echoing through all the paths so you still don't know which way takes to it.

Smash some red lights until it's dark, then tell the metal man to close his eyes. We already destroyed the door, so there's already a trail, and my curiosity is killing me.

Do we feel any difference in the dark compared to the light?

Before you decide which way to take, you think about reducing your trail, or at least make the task of following you harder. You reach for the red lights in the walls around you and smash them with a punch, you feel how you've just burned and cut your hand with the glass shards, and the tunnel becomes darker. ...why?

“Sir, I will need you to close your eyes, please.” you start saying to the machine, but as soon as you finish, he looks at the boy and then looks at you again, lowering his eyelids to create an annoyed expression while shaking his head in refusal.

When you look at the kid, you notice that he is, once again, holding the metal man hand and trembling, now even more as a result of having less light, apparently entering in panic.

“Shhhh...” you hear the mechanical gentleman while getting on his knees and facing the kid, placing his hand in the boy’s shoulder. You hear he whispers something you can't understand while the fluffy creature licks his foot, and then he gets back up.

The kids looks more calm now, but still shaking a little, not letting go the man's hand. That boy has some serious fear of the darkness.

Although the gentleman refused to close his eyes, you saw that he blinked, and everything went dark for a second… Or that’s what should’ve happened, because as soon as all the light was gone, you saw everything in a different way, you could still see but it was like a black and white movie, with the walls and floor being grey and seeing the kid, the man, and the dog-thing as white shapes. It only lasted a second while the man's eyes were briefly closed, but you're pretty sure your eyes shouldn’t do that in the dark. what’s that? Like... ‘vision in the night’ or something?

You decide to turn left and start walking again with the others behind you, still seeing that strange effect in your eyes when the man blinks until you get to a part of the tunnel with more light as the red lights aren't destroyed. Eventually, you find yourself in another division, one way going straight, a door to your right locked with a blue card device, and other way going to the left. Considering your path, if you go to the left you would be probably returning to the stairs you came from. Also, you can feel the temperature is higher now, like there’s something really hot coming from inside the door.

The engine sounds echo through the walls, but you can feel it’s coming especially from your right, It's still distant and kind of muffled though, so it's probably -not- coming from inside the room.

You don't give too much attention to the door and move forward.

After a short walk through the dimly lit corridor, you turn around a corner and see a door at the end of the tunnel, with a bright red light coming from a card device next to it. Getting closer, you notice the door is bigger than usual, with a wheel in the middle seemingly made of the same metal as the door, like one of those burglar-resistant safes. The wheel has the sun-shaped symbol you've seen before on it, and doesn't move when you try to spin it.

The metal man knocks the door, for some reason, and guessing by the sound you think the door is thicker than the other doors too this is some good quality door, yes sir. It's clearly made to protect something important, and whatever is behind it must be the source of the engine sounds, as you can hear it closer now.

Suddenly, you feel -something-, you don't know how to describe it, it's not a sound, not a smell, you're not touching or seeing it, not even a taste, but it's... Something. The only thing you could compare the feeling with is to when you saw that mask that's now in your pocket, but the feeling is not coming from there, or near you, it's coming from somewhere distant, but you just -know- in this floor Uh.... The others don't look like they are feeling anything, apart from the eye kid shivering because of the darkness, they all are pretty calm.

Before you do anything about the door, you move closer to the boy and talk to him.

"Kid, Excuse me for my behavior with the lights back there," you while he turns around to look at you, still shaking. "I... Work better in the dark, or at least I think I do... That was in part what I was trying to see. But I understand you must be scared right now, and I can't blame you for that, so if you don't like the dark, I will not be repeating it. Is that good for you?" you look at him waiting for an answer and, although still shaking, he responds with a nod.

"Excellent!" you say and start walking to the door, "Also, Gentlemen, I must add that I've felt something is in this floor and it's quite possibly getting closer, I have no knowledge about what is its source, but I've only felt something similar in a strange artifact before, perhaps it's not a good thing..." At this point everybody is looking at you while you're talking, and the metal man has his brows raised after hearing that. Well, everybody except for the hairy creature, it's just walking in circles for some reason. "And now, I need to ask for your help with the door once again." You say and prepare to tear through the metal.

> 78, 5, 33, 26 (Success, Crit Fail, Fail, Fail)

When your claws make contact with the door's surface, it does nothing but scratch it, maybe they worked well against smaller and light doors before, but they have no great impact in this one.

The metal man lets go the boy's hand and lits his 'finger torch', spinning a wheel in his knuckles and making the flame bigger, hotter and brighter, it even makes you feel something like the sun burning your skin. He gets even closer to the door and crouches, the door starting to produce sparks as he cuts through the metal. It appears to be a harder task than before, because he's taking longer to break the thick metal, and you'll probably need to wait some minutes this time.

Behind you, you see the kid pointing with his hands to the door again, you guess he's trying to make his 'flying door' trick again, but now his hand are shaking as he's still scared and appears to have no effect in the door. He continues for some seconds, until you see drops coming from his eyes and falling to the ground, and he kneels down shaking even more. is he... Crying?

The fluffy creature... Well, it's still doing nothing, just walking in circles. But when it noticed the kid kneeling, it walked to him and started making sounds similar to whining while licking his face. The kid looks at it, and starts to pet it like a dog. He seems calmer now, and his fluffy friend too.
>>
>>4505338

The mechanical gentleman is halfway through the cutting process when you feel that same... 'Energy' again, but now it's closer, like coming from the corridor where the high-temperature door was. Besides that, you could swear you can also hear a pair of footsteps between the engine sounds echoing in the hallways I think it's time of... Doing something. But... What could you possibly do?

"Sir, I don't want to sound rude, but... please hurry up." you say, standing next to the man cutting the door.

"Bz Bzz" he responds with more electrical sounds.

You assume that means that he will be hurrying, because after saying that he spinned the wheel even more, making the flame even bigger than before as he keeps cutting. Now he's moving faster, but regardless of the amount of fire he's using against the door, he will still need some time to complete the process, and that energy you're feeling is getting more and more closer every second that passes.

You'll need to do something in case it's dangerous, so you reach into your jacket and take out the strange watch, still emitting that purple light.

"Child, if you feel death is imminent press the button and prepare to run. Beware, as it will harm creatures such as I." you give it to the kid, who takes it with shaky hands. If something bad is going to happen, at least he and the metal man could save themselves... Well, you don't know if it could hurt them too, but you hope for the best.

You begin to hear the footsteps more clearly, they're close, and whatever it is, it will appear in that corner any minute now. Perhaps you could use that morphing ball as a weapon, so you prepare and reach inside your jacket and into the pockets once again, taking the... Goo ball? it's bright green now, wiggly and really sticky, like a combination of gelatin and glue. You don't know if this thing could be actually useful... But you'll never know if you don't try it!

You don't get too much time to think about the utility of the item in your hand, as the source of the energy finally shows up. The individual similar to the guards but with thicker and red parts in his armor, and a metal plate with a symbol resembling an "A" in his helmet, starts shooting his -bigger- weapon as soon as you're in line of sight. You barely have time to react and throw the ball. WATCH OUT!

Your body reacts before you get shot and you lose control for a second, jumping to a side and evading the light bullets coming from the weapon, you quickly look back at the highly hostile man, and the ball appears to be sticked to his plate and not letting him see, only shooting in all directions having no way to aim. You were about to look at the kid when you hear it...

-BEEEEEEEEP-

The sound pierces your ears and the painful headache comes back, your vision blurry, and your body shaking, falling to the ground in pain, trying to stand up. You hear something hitting the floor, and when you look at it, you distinguish the shape of the red armor man with his hands in his ears, the weapon in the ground, and falling on his knees while the green hairy creature is apparently biting his arm. The eye kid is doing the same, so the effect is affecting him too, and the watch is on the ground in front of him. You still see sparks flying, so that means the mechanical man hasn't stopped.

You struggle to even move your arms, but you start crawling in direction to the weapon. With your whole body in pain and your vision shaking, you keep going, you notice the red guard is trying to take it too, but with his eyes blinded and the fluffy creature in his arm, he can't reach it before you do. You grab the rifle and take aim as good as you can with your shaky hands and blurry vision, quickly pressing the trigger.

-PEW-

You haven't thought about it until now because you were busier trying to evade bullets, but these weapons sound pretty different than a normal gun, you would say they even sound -funny-. Anyway, that doesn't matter right now, because as soon as you shot, a light projectile impacted the man, you think it was in the chest, being pushed with great force into the wall behind him and falling to the ground in a sitting position, but not moving anymore. With your blurry and shaky vision you can't tell if he's conscious or not, or if he's even breathing, but you can see the 'bullet' left a white part in his armor after the impact. These weapons are clearly powerful, and he looked like he actually knew how to use it. I mean, you could always shoot him again to make sure he's dead...

The green creature fell from his arm as soon as he was sent against the wall, now it looks like it's just walking around again.

Your whole body hasn't stopped shaking by the pain, neither that ear-piercing sound or your eyes being blurry, the watch is still working and affecting you and the kid.

Your vision doesn't let you see too far to the end of the hallway, but probably the metal gentleman should be done the cutting right now.

You need to stop the watch, so you drop the weapon and turn back, making a great effort to crawl through the floor resisting the pain you're feeling. It feels like every single one of your bones is being crushed over and over again, with that everlasting sound in your head, shaking hands, and at this point it's even difficult to see at all. But you keep going, every step getting you closer to the purple light of the device causing your and the kid's suffering, and you finally reach it, pressing the button as soon as you can get your fingers on it.

You stand up gasping for air after the effect is disabled, and your vision slowly recovers, the pain going away, and you're starting to feel less weak and dizzy. You look at the kid, it's sitting in the ground, breathing heavily, and looking at you.

You hear a loud noise, and when you look at the end of the dimly tunnel you see the door-shaped hole made into the bigger door by the metal man, who's standing next to it. After noticing the kid in the ground, he starts walking to him as fast as he can so... Pretty slow.

The red guard is still not moving, well, his chest is moving up and down, so you know he's still breathing. He's not trying to stand up or even moving his hands, perhaps he's unconscious, or exhausted or -faking-, it's not easy to tell with the helmet on. Helmet that still has the slimy object sticked to it, but knowing the morphing nature of the ball, it will probably change soon, you could take it now or just leave it there, it would be funny if it turned to fire again.

Before you go inside the door, you walk back, get next to the guard and detach the sticky ball from his face plate, the red light resembling an eye in it is still shining, and you save the item inside your suit once again before it changes. You can still feel the energy coming from him, it's particularly 'stronger' now that you're near him, but again, you don't exactly know how to explain the feeling or how you know it's stronger now, you just... Know.

You step away from the red soldier and pick up the weapon shooting him right now would be -really- easy. After all, if you're going to leave him there, better to leave him unarmed, no one knows when he could wake up. You take the weapon and... Uh, you don't know how you'll save this, the other items were fairly "small", but this thing is the size of your arm... You try to save it inside your jacket anyway for some reason and, as every thing you've stored in there, it fits and somehow loses all its weight once it's inside the pocket.

> Light Rifle Obtained!

You start to walk in direction to the door, and you notice the green creature is following you. You walk past the kid and the metal man, who's seemingly trying to help him. They don't follow you, but they'll probably join you in a minute so you keep moving.

Once you get through the door, you get inside another dim lit room and the first thing you see is... Another big door identical to the one just went through, with another red card device next to it. Double door, double security, at this point you're sure the engine producing the sounds is behind that door, and it must be important to need that much security.

And talking about security, you begin to hear a voice coming from the walls of the room.

"Security Scan, Initiated. Please stay still." it's that same neutral female voice you've heard in the devices and giving announcements.

A bunch of green lights forming a grid appear in the ceiling and descend and ascend quickly through the room, they aren't hurtful but you wouldn't have time to react if they were. The grid suddenly turns red once it reaches the ceiling again and you hear how an alarm is triggered.

"Intruder Detected. Suppression, initiated."

And that's where you knew you should leave and quickly stepped back, exiting the room and hearing something similar to... Leaking gas behind you, coming from inside.
>>
>>4512280

You step away from the door, the metal man is currently helping the boy to stand up, like he's injured or sick. Looking around, you notice the hairy thing is not by your side, not in the tunnel either, what only leaves the possibility of it staying inside, and when you look back you confirm it: it's inside the room, walking in circles it really likes to do that..., surrounded by a purple smoke, smoke spreading in the room and starting to get out through the hole in the door. You don't know the effect of the gas, it has to be a security measure for something, but the green thing doesn't look too bothered by it.

The red guard is in the same spot you left him, still not moving.

Walking past the metal man and the kid again, you get closer to the red soldier, sitting on your toes to be at his height level.

"Hey, Bucket head, wake up." you raise your voice and snap your fingers bucket head? ...really?

"This is what is going to happen: you will answer me some questions, and I don't throw you inside that room full of smoke to see what effect it has in you, do you understand?" you continue while searching for his pockets, perhaps he has a better card, but the only response is him moving his head a little, and his clothes have no pockets, pity. Shortly after, you start to hear muffled sounds coming from inside his helmet, it appears to be blocking it, so you take off the bucket-shaped helmet to be able to hear and see his face.

He's a bald man, you can see he's overweighted too, but what calls your attention is a bunch of burn marks in his face, and that his left eye isn't... Normal, the pupil is a red cross with a dot in the middle, not like the round brown in his other eye. When you took off the helmet you found what he was saying, well, doing, he's... Laughing, not saying anything, just laughing in your face.

"This isn't a funny business, sir. Why are you laughing?" you ask, but he doesn't respond, just keeps laughing.

"Accept to answer my questions or I'll be forced to--" you were saying when suddenly his eyes turned completely white, the smile still in his face, no words coming out of his mouth.

"You just were lucky, friend." he's actually -saying- something, but you're not hearing it from his mouth, his voice is somehow heard echoing directly inside your head, like a thought. "More Alphas are coming, and you can't stop them all, give up in this pathetic attempt or face the consequences!"

"A-Aren't you afraid to die?" you ask in shock for the way he's talking to you and ignoring your threat.

"That gas isn't lethal, and even if you find another way to kill me, I would be dying serving my purpose!" his eyes go back to normal as soon as you heard those words, bursting into a more maniatical laughter looking at you directly to the eyes.

He's really not afraid of death!
He must be insane, normal people don't think like that. If you were actually planning to kill him, that would be suicide! What... What should you do--

In a blink you lose control of your body once again, lifting him while he doesn't stop laughing at you, and throwing him into the gas-filled room, sent flying all the way through the corridor. And after that, you regain control of your body.

You... Didn't want to do that, that must hurt he deserved it, you could've killed him! at least he was using armor. That exchange didn't give you a lot of answers, but you are still wondering -what- is exactly taking away your self-control making you do these things...
>>
>>4514343

More gas is coming out of the room and into the hallway, you can barely see the shapes of the dog-like creature moving inside and the red-armored man in the ground, apparently not moving, his laughter has stopped too. The still shaking eye boy and the machine man are stepping away from the smoke after noticing it.

You see the 'Alpha' helmet you took from the guard is on the ground, with its bright red light shining. And the loud sound of the alarm is echoing through the tunnels.

You were about to take the light weapon from your jacket and start shooting at the door when a better idea crossed your mind. If that room detects intruders, it should detect familiar faces too! Or helmets, the only ones that use them are employees after all. You take the piece of armor from the ground, and put it on.

Inside, all you can see through the visor is red, like looking through painted window, and you see the others have white silhouettes around them, even through the walls, including the motionless man inside of the gas-filled room. When you look directly at them a square with a line moving up and down appears in the lower left corner, with the letters "HR" below it. When you look at the kid, the line moves fast with a constant 'beep' sound, with the metal man the line stays straight with no sound, the little creature's line goes up and down slower and the sound is less constant than the kid, and in the case of the guard it's even slower.

There's also a small map of what appears to be this floor in the upper right corner, you recognize a few turns and rooms, but some of them are from tunnels you haven't gone yet.

The helmet appears to have an insulation system that closes it when its on, locking in place around your neck, but not choking you. It's completely closed, in theory it shouldn't let air inside, but you can still breath normally.

"AU-07, it appears your camera turned off. We're trying to fix the issue, do you copy, over." you hear the voice of a man coming from your right ear.

> Say Nothing

> "AU-Whatever is dead, and you're next!"

> Write in

Now using the red helmet, you walk through the tunnel and into the room filled with that smoke. You should be smelling the gas by now, but it feels like you're just breathing regular air, either the gas is odorless or the helmet is somehow 'cleaning' the air you breath.

"New Individual Detected. Security Scan, Initiated. Please stay still." you hear the same voice.

The grid-shaped green lights go up and down, and once again they turn red once they reach the ceiling.
>>
>>4517443

"Intruder Detected. Suppression, initiated." the voice repeats.

Nothing changes, the door is still closed and the pale purple gas keeps coming out of the walls. The little green thing is as playful as always, and it's not wearing any protection against the gas, perhaps the 'Alpha' man was telling the truth when he said it's not lethal... or it's just the fact that the creature has no nose. Regardless of that, you don't really know if it's -actually- dangerous to inhale it, so you kneel down and touch the exposed head of the bald man for a few seconds until his head is completely covered by the darkness. You don't actually know if that will help him in anything, but it appears to spread faster if you keep making direct contact, considering it took quite a while to spread from that old lady's arm to her face earlier.

Looking outside of the room, you notice the kid and the metal man aren't in the corridor anymore as the gas keeps spreading through it, but with the helmet letting you see them through walls you can see they're around the corner.

Well, the helmet plan didn't work but at least you've got a map, it's something.

You stayed silent when you heard that voice coming from the helmet.

"AU-07, Repeat, do you copy, over." the voice repeats

You don't respond, and the voice doesn't speak again.

---

Before you do what you're planning to do, you quickly get out and turn around the corner away from the smoke, meeting the metal man and the kid.

"That man said that more are coming, so--" you are interrupted by the metal man making signs, they can't hear you, of course.

You take off the helmet and start repeating.

"Excuse me for that. As I was saying, that man said that more are coming, so... Although I can't assure we can trust him, maybe you could think in some ideas to deal with his fellows if this turns out to be true?" you ask, the metal man looks at the kid for a moment, and then looks at you and nods with a thumb up. That's enough for you.

You put the helmet back on and go inside the room again to proceed with your new plan: taking the weapon and start shooting at the door, you have to admit it's not the best option, but you haven't got a lot of options anyway. So you reach inside your pockets and take the rifle out, pressing the trigger. Your shot hits the wall next to the door, aiming with this thing isn't something you would call easy, even without the blurry vision, making it shoot in the direction you want is difficult at least, that and including the recoil of the gun every time you shoot makes the task quite hard to you.

> Inexperienced Shooter (-20 in shooting rolls)

Luckily, you haven't really felt more of that energy again, giving you some time to actually do it. You step closer to the door and keep shooting the light rays, and as they collide with the metal, you see how they start to melt it. You get even closer and try to aim to the spots where the bullets have already impacted, getting to pierce through the door and make holes.

After a while pulling the trigger, the weapon's surface became really hot and now completely stopped working. But you've already made an opening big enough to pass through, so you just save it back into your jacket.

The gas is still flowing, and you suspect it won't stop until it runs out. But you don't know how much of it is stored in the walls, it could be enough to fill the whole floor, or it could be almost empty by now, you have no clue.

Looking back at the hole in the door, you can't see clearly to the other side, and the smoke and poor illumination doesn't help your vision. The creature couldn't care less about the light, because it just jumped inside the hole and to the other side, oh well.

Before bringing the others, you have to make sure it's safe, so you're going to the other side alone, at least for now.

For a minute you think about trying to stop the gas melting the openings with the gun, but after reaching for it again you're reminded it's jammed when the trigger does nothing. To be fair, you probably couldn't do anything anyway, the walls aren't metal, it's more like a material similar to stone, with really small holes across them where that smoke is coming from.

With the gas still flowing in the room, you go through the hole on the door and you hear how your shoes touch a metallic surface, with the engine sounds roaring at their higher volume. You look around, and the first thing you see are two massive machines producing those sounds, with wires and lights in them, connected to the ceiling and going all the down a pit, it's so dark down there you can't even see the bottom Wow.

You're stepping on a metal bridge-like platform suspended over this bottomless pit, and walking through it you quickly find it divides to left and right, to your left you see a bridge connects to a wall with yet another door with red device, this one is regular-sized, though. The right path continues through the area, so you keep exploring.

As you move through the bridge you see even more of these giant artifacts, with bridges connecting to them like the map in the helmet suggests, they seem to be represented by circles in the map, too. You reach the end of the bridge and you've counted there are five of these impressive machines in here, all with their endless engine roaring echoing through the whole place.

You were so distracted with the size of those things you didn't notice Rufus was following you again, good boy you really liked that name or...?

The whole room is dimly lit with red lights like you've got used to in this floor, maybe a little darker than the tunnels, but it seems pretty safe as far as you can see, though you don't know if that gas in the room before this one is actually harmless yet.

You go back to the gas-leaking door you came from, through the hole and to the tunnels again. The gas has been spreading even more, getting around the corner and making the others back down, the kid still grabbing the living machine's hand.

"Fellows, I've got good news, the door has been opened and we can get to the other side now." you tell them

The metal man points behind you, "Smoke." he says a single word. He's not talking about something behind you, but about all the stuff around you.

"Well, in that case..." you take a minute to think in a way to pass through it, "I could go first and throw this helmet afterwards for the boy to use!" you explain.

They look at you without saying a word for a moment, and then the man speaks again "Far... Distaaaaa-ce" he says, extending the syllables and cutting the words as always, you still wonder why he does that ...He's a machine, machines, you know, fail, but at least you're able understand him.

He's got a point, you can't throw it directly to the kid from the other side, he would need to either get closer, getting exposed, or you would have to throw it all the way to the far end of the corridor from there... You probably are strong enough to do the second one, considering your body was the one who threw the man inside the room, but throwing it that far with such force could break it, and it also would need to get around the corner... It's not an option.

"Sir, do you -need- to breath? if you don't, this wouldn't affect you, right?" you talk to the metal man, who's rubbing his chin, he's not human, so perhaps he doesn't even have lungs. He looks to you, and then shakes his head with a small smile in his face.

He then knelt, said something to the kid you couldn't hear I wonder if he just buzzes when he does that, would be funny, and after standing up, he starts to walk inside the gas in front of you, unaffected or it's just fancy smoke with no real effect.

You two walk back to the door and kid stays away from the gas. Once getting to the other side you take a step back from the door and take the helmet off, throwing it to the man who catches without trouble. It seems like you were far enough from the gas as all of a sudden you feel dizzy, quickly taking another step back to keep inhaling it It actually does something, who would've thought?[/spoiler?].

You wait a while before you see again the man helping the eye boy to get through the hole, wearing the helmet.
>>
>>4524988

"Oh, I will need of your services once again, if you don't mind" you say to the man, pointing at the door while they were looking at the tremendous engines around the place.

With nothing interrupting him, he uses his finger-torch on the door and cuts it fairly quickly, and with a gentle push, the door falls down to the ground leaving the way inside free.

Inside you see a bunch of those glass light signs on the wall, with a big desk full of buttons and levers under it, also the text "Power Supply" on the right wall. The desk seems divided in four parts, one with another light sign where you can read ">Introduce Command" and a keyboard, like from a typewriter, also has a card device next to it. The second part is a series of knobs with a sign, "Levels", above them. Next to it, just a lever, with no labels or way to tell its purpose. And the final part has three buttons, two are green, one is red.

All the screens have bars, numbers, and more data you don't really know nothing about.

You get closer to the control panel and try to do something, anything, with it.

First you try the keyboard, but nothing happens when you push the keys. You assume it should write stuff in the sign above it, but needs to be 'unlocked' with a card to be able to do it. You try to slide your green card through the device, unfortunately all it does is a buzzing sound, with the light on it staying red.

You give up with the keyboard and try to move the 'levels' knobs. You can spin them all, and the more you move them to the right, the more the bars in the 'light signs' increase their height, but again you have no clue of what they're representing or the purpose of these 'levels', so you just leave them all to the right for now.

After that you slowly push up the lever, and here besides the circle in the screen filling itself as you move it, you can also hear something, but it's not coming from inside the room, it's the engines from outside. It seems like they changed their pace, they're even louder now and you feel how they're moving faster. If you had to guess, you could say the lever controls the working speed of the engines. The movement of the giant machines is so violently fast that the ground below your feet is starting tremble softly.

And finally, the buttons, and as the curious human being you are, you push them all. Now two of them are red and one is green, and shortly after pressing them the wall signs text went all red.

"[!] Caution: Systems Overheating [!]" A message appears in all three of them. You probably need to turn this thing back to normal... but why would you?!

> Fix the settings

In top of all that, the feeling of, not one, but now -three- of those auras entering the floor comes back to your head. Guessing by the last gentleman who emitted that energy trying to kill you on sight, you're pretty convinced whoever is coming isn't friendly either.
