>Glowing

You didn't come into existance quietly. You burned, a quick flash of fire, and you were you. You didn't have a name. You were just 'I'.

As soon as you were made, you realized two things:

One, you existed within nothing
Two, When you were born, you burned something.

You can sense what it is, the only thing that exists within the nothing with you: while you glow, it is dim. You are white, it is black.

The tendril is removed, and the pain stops. That pain...you never want to feel it again. It was as if you were being snuffed out, but never ending. You would prefer true death to it.

>Who is Umbros?
You wrack your memories for anyone who claims to call themselves 'Umbro'...

You cannot recall.

"Who is Umbro?" You ask life, your puzzlement being translated to the lesser being.

Life giggles, "The dark one! Silly..."

Ah. The Dark essences has taken on a name? Should you as well?

Why would...Umbros be so close to life as to give life it's name? Why weren't you this close.

You offer one final message; "Life?"

"Yeah?"

>"I am Luminos."

And you recede into silence again.
---

For the first time in your immensely long existence, you feel happy. Whenever life speaks to you, you feel a sense of compassion for the lesser being.

You joyously await the times where she contacts you.

"Luminos?" Life asks. She seemed...a tad somber. Not like herself.

>"To where, young life?"

You feel a sense of amusement. Was this another one of Life's little games? Such a joyous being.

"No, I mean I'm gonna be gone. I won't exist." Life corrects, unusually solemn.

You feel pain. Not like when Umbro whipped you, but another pain, deep inside your very essence.

"Young Life...you cannot be... what did that Dark Being do!?" You demand to know.

"Nothing! This is just how it was always going to be."

The rage you felt died down, and crashed back into sadness. "Life...you..you mustn't."

"It'll be okay, Luminos, " she consoles, "I'll make an entire new place! We won't have to be in the nothing anymore."

Despite your eternity of begging her to stay, the time comes.

You feel the once growing life between you and Umbro die.

In sadness, you scream to the void as light burns out into nothingness around you, in anger and sadness. You can sense Umbro, his tendrils whipping around randomly. Is this truly the end of Life?
___

Something grew again. It didn't stop growing until it encompassed all of Nothingness.

It was lucious greenery, varied animals, and vast wild places.

Your essence had centralized with the new land, instead of a mass of burning light, you were a humanoid figure of light.

You have not seen Umbro yet, though.

>Attempt to find Umbro

Life's gifts are...beautiful. These creatures, though nowhere near your intelligence, are bright, fun, gorgeous.

Though, a thought pesters your mind. Where is Umbro? The dark essence hadn't been seen since the growth of Life's gifts. Had he also withered away?

You feel horrible at your indifference to that last idea. Life did also like him...
You scour Life's gifts, over almost endless oceans, the thickest of Jungles, the wooded of forests, until you find him.

The land is craggy, rocky. No tree dares to grow here, no animal wishes to live here. It is almost barren except for the few luminescent mushrooms.

Umbro sensed our presence, and turned his new form around. It was not unlike yours; the essences in a humanoid shape. But where you burned, barely contained, he bubbled slowly, little spheres of his essence floating off and coming back.

Though, there is one difference. Where you have 'eyes', the fire burns less bright; making them a light orange compared to the white of the rest of your form.

Though Umbro seems to have white ovals for eyes. Interesting.

Ah, so Life had also informed Umbros of your name. Hm.

"Why have you sought me?" He inquires, his form waving slightly in...curiosity? Anger? Sadness?

"Hm. I do not think we are able to, Luminos." He admits, his form waving in the cold wind.

"How so?" You ask, confused.

"Life was different from us. Wonderful, but different." He explains, seemingly lost in thought for a moment...

Solemnly, you return to the lands where light shines.
____

Many, many years after your meeting with Umbro: you notice something strange with the animals. A species has risen to sapience. Truly their intelligence was under your own, but it was noteable nonetheless.

You want to watch these closer...and what better way than to be with them?

You appear as a flash of light, momentarily blinding them. The larger ones form a circle around the Smaller ones.

When the light dies down, you let them take in your form. Like them, yes, but pure white. You stand two of the Larger ones high, and your thorax seems larger than theirs.

"Hello." You speak through your mandibles, truly speaking instead of sending mental messages.

"I, am Luminos."

The sapients seem to relax slightly, the red creatures move torwards you, their antennae twitching.

You admit this to them, and the smallest whisper to eachother nervously.

The tallest looks back, and then replies to you.

Its easy to understand the message as they all rush away, with you walking...

Walking is strange.

You finally arrive at wherever the Red Creatures were going; A large mound of dirt, surrounded by a dirt wall, with a hole for entry.

You are led in, and see the numerous amount of smaller mounds, ants milling about. Though the ants stop to stare at your luminescence, as you're led into the giant mound.
It's...about as fancy as these sapients can get. The dirt walls covered with leaves, Guards lining the walls, holding long spears, and another red creature of similar size to yourself.

Was this a 'Queen'?

The queen squints, "And *what* do you wish to do here, Luminos?" She says bitterly.

"I have seen you, red creatures. I have...seen your sapience, and it interests me." You say, holding yourself high. That was a good answer, right?

You decide to find out what exactly they're doing in there. It must be important, of course.

You enter as a ray of sunlight through the door, and take in the details.

The mound has three entryways, letting in as much sunlight as one could get without poking holes in the roof. Upon the only wall without a door, is a rather primitive painting, though the strangest thing is that the painting is of a large White Queen...

Its you!

In your surprise you revert back into your Ant Queen form; and there is a shocked gasp.

You turn to see an older ant, his thorax and face covered in white paint.

He falls to his knees, and says, "Great Luminos, White Queen, what do you desire, having visited this Templemound?" He says with extreme reverence.

You gaze down at the worshipper, and wave your hand to the exit, "Go, worshipper, spread this new faith to the ends of life!"

The old Painted Ant bows once more, and hurries out to complete his duties.
---

It has been a few decades, to the Ants, and the new Faith has spread incredibly well. Of course, it truly prospers in Antill as you've killed the queen who disrespected you and appeared in your own temple...

You know, you really like these ants.

Of course, today a small hunting party had left Antill, and you watched them just the same. What hunt would they bring back?

But disaster struck them, as a beast rushed the group from behind a rock, stabbing a soldier ant with sharp fangs!

The beast was large, almost three soldiers high; with eight legs and eight eyes. The beast was mostly black, with red markings on it's back

Really, the ants are their own beings. Surely they can deal with this threat themselves?

The creature drops the ant as a soldier throws his spear at the creature, with it giving a small screech of pain.

It launches itself forward and snags another Soldier Ant before the rest turn thorax and run.

The creature waits until the ant has stopped struggling, and takes it with the other corpse back to a small cave...interesting.

Another interesting fact is that it seems to be a nighttime predator, as you haven't seen any creature like this as the sun was up...

Well...it's going somewhere, right? Little rays of light are shining into the mouth of the small cave.

You can see the creature, it's front legs acting as arms and hands holding up the corpse of one ant.

You can hear the disgusting sounds of slurping as it devours it's meal. Soon the empty carapace is thrown aside like trash, joining a small pile...

The creature turns to what seems to be a large...net? It looked like one, but why would there be a net on the wall?

Staring at the net for a moment, you can make out a picture. A large spider, the bits of the net-picture painted black with blackened mud, but the eigit eyes left their normal white...

Could it be...?

The creature seems to be whispering something, surprising you with its ability to speak. Its quiet, and it's voice raises and lowers with fervor.

The Dark Webweaver... the naming is too perfect for it to be some native false deity or spirit...

"Creature!" You announce, "You speak of some Dark Webweaver, it can only be the dark figure Umbro! Where is he?!" You stretch to your full height, eyes aflame.

The Creature screams out, "I shall never betray the Dark Webweaver, Flaming Whore!" It screams, in a battle ready stance.

Hm. At least you know this isn't an insane Umbro.

But this evil creature has called you a whore!

>It's eating Ants!
>It worships you!
>What is this?

You decide to air out all grievances; it isn't like you'll get another chance.
"But what is it?" You inquire

"A Webweaver." Umbro says plainly, "Most live here," he says, waving his hand to the Darklands behind him, "but some leave."

"It worships you! Why?"

Umbro replies, dry, "And your ants worship you. I've been busy, too."

"And it's been eating those ants!" You exclaim.

"Yes. That's nature: how the creations of Life have existed. And will continue to exist that way."

"The ants are sapient! How could you condone that?" You reply, disgusted by his lack of care.

"They'll learn to use their spears in such a way that the threat is minimized." He replies, seemingly bored. In disgust, you leave in a flash.

You look over the fortified city of Antill as a ray of light, with a new dislike of your Dark counterpart.

You...have an idea. You can give the ants a gift, a gift that'll help them for a long time...

Offspring. Your offspring. Obviously it won't have the same power as you, but still, it would suffice with the threat of webweavers.

You arrive at the Palacemound of Antill, and appear before the court in your White Queen form. The new Queen, quick to learn of the mistakes of her mother quickly bows her head.

"Great White Queen, to what reason do we owe the grace of your presence?" She says, smoothly as one can with you just popping in.

"I have come to bring light upon a new threat to the Hill of Antill." You announce, the few guards gasping.

"There have been disappearances, no doubt, as beasts lurk within the caves and darkness, where not even my light can penetrate!" You announce dramatically.

The Queen looks fearful, and rightly so, "What beasts, my Lady?"

"Webweavers! Eight legged and eight eyed, fangs as large as a speartip, venom to melt Ants inside-out, truly a dangerous beast." You close your eyes as you recall the monster.

"But I have come up with a solution; I will choose one Ant to have a night of passion with, resulting in offspring."

At this, the guards in the room are barely able to contain the pure joy at the chance they've been given. The Queen, however, nods, a thinking look upon her royal face.

"How will you choose the Ant?" She asks, a hand stroking her chin.

"A contest of Knowledge and wit." You announce to the room.

Two hours later, and you've been given a small throne within your temple to sit on, as the Painted Preist from before serves your every need except the one that will be the contest prize. He asked.

The first ant walks in, a Soldier. His confident gait showing his hubris.

You announce the riddle; "Where does an Ant go within blind, but comes out with more sight than most?"

The soldier thinks for a minute, and insecurely gives out his answer.
"...a Healer's Mound?"

"Incorrect."

The day continues on, and on until finally an Ant of usual size walks in; he is no soldier. By his side he carries a satchel.

You repeat the riddle, and he thinks for a long while...

Finally, his head perks up with the spark of an idea; "A mound of Learning! The sight is intelligence!"

For a moment all is still.

You nod; "Correct."

The Ant seems overjoyed. Hm.

You grab ahold of his hand and ride rays of light to a secluded spot between the trees.
-----
Imagine it yourself.
-----

You are in eachother's arms, panting. This would surely result in a child, right? You hoped so, really, the work was pleasureable but far too much work had to be done.

The Healer Ant lays there, shell shocked...

You'll leave him to clean up any...mess.
-----

Its been almost a year, and you've been feeling something growing within you. Truly, its been growing fast compared to your growth, but still, it has been a while.

Suddenly, a great pain racks you and you fall upon your back within the middle of a grassy field. Screaming for what felt like years, the pain is finally lifted and you hear a cry...

It is done.

You sit up and look to your offspring...was...was this how Life felt?

Its pure white, just like you, yet it has the form of his father: a Ant. Its cries are loud and healthy, but are easily shushed after rocking.

You quickly return the child to his father in a ray of light, you vanish.

Lux seems to have made a weapon out of Sinew and a long branch, launching spears with this 'Bow'.

Of course it caught on with the Ants of Antill, though in smaller sizes. You're very sure that they'll be able to contend with the Webweaver problem now.

>Farming

It seems your son isn't too war-focused, having created a new food source! After... 'Spilling some water' on seeds which were dropped, they seemed to start growing.

Now, just to the right of your Temple is a large feild of golden Grain... its pretty.

The Ants have also discovered the secret to fire! Though not the idea of Lux, it's still a great improvement, as you can ride it's shine like normal light.

Of course, one eventful day you're watching over the preists praying within the new temple fire pit, when they bring in...a lamb?

The youngest Painted Preist is holding the animal down on a small stone table, as the eldest holds the knife in quiet prayer.

You didn't tell them to do this, it seems to be a tradition from their...Pre-You days.

You appear just before the knife is brought down; the Preists drop the lamb in surprise, who runs off. You go, little lamb.

"Painted Preisthood," you announce, "You who have spread the faith in my name; I am unimpressed with simple animal sacrifice."

The youngest speaks up, "Grear White Queen; we can get a bigger animal, or even an ant if you'd like!"

You raise your hand; "No, bloodshed of any kind is insufficient. There is only one proper way to worship me; Dance."

The preists look shocked, "Dance, White Queen?"

"Yes. Around this very fire, until you collapse."

And so, the preists had truly codified the true way of worship.

You are Lux, son of Brin and Luminos. For long you have known of your mortal divinity, and you've prepared yourself for it.

Bait could probably work at attracting the thing.

You go deep into the forest, aiming to find a good spot between the trees. Pulling out the meat you've packed, you place it upon the ground, and climb up a tall tree.

This damn Webweaver better be worth it, Lux had hunted the meat himself, and now it was inedible on the ground.

Soon, with the cracking of Brush, a black Webweaver with red markings upon its back seemed to be attracted to the meat...

But kept it's distance, looking around suspiciously.

Did it know that the meat was bait?!

"Fuck." You mutter, aiming between the eight eyes and releasing the spear. It launches, but the Webweaver knows of the threat and moves out of the way.

You jump out of the tree with a grunt, notching another spear and once again aiming for the beast. When you fire, it spreads out its legs and lowers itself, the spear going through one tree and embedding itself into another.

"You shitbag!" You growl as the beast pounces upon you, but you're able to grab it by the mandibles, barely holding the fangs back.

You give a final flash of light, "I thank you for this knowledge, Hiven, and forgive your past...rudeness." With that you beam away on a ray of light.

Within a time of ten years, situations between the Hiven and ants have seemed to improve, with trade of tools and building materials going to and fro.

Within the Capital Citymound of Antill, the architecture has seen a revamp! No longer do the ants wallow in huts, but in stone buildings, the two greatest being your Temple and the Palacemound, being rebuilt into Step Pyramids

Antill, due to this architecture, has been nicknamed, "The City of Twin Pyramids"

>Hunt him down

You pull out your Greatbow, and oil the sinew string. All is silent until the murderer asks, in a quiet voice, "Lord Lux, w-what are you doing?"

You reply matter-o-factly, "Giving you a headstart."

The Ant with a panicked look upon his face runs off into the dark woods, scared shitless. You almost laugh.

Soon everything is primed, bow at the ready, quiver of spears full, and hunting spirit heightened.

Its time.
----

You've never felt more excited, ever! You've been right on his trail for three days, and it's been tough. The Murderer has been trying his absolute best to throw you off; tossing his shit in different directions, changing course suddenly, and travelling by tree.

But you know you're close... you can almost smell it.

You see a bit of evidence, a skinned wolf carcass. You lean down and stick a finger into the viscera; still warm. Grinning, you survey the surrounding area...until you see a shadow over you, getting closer.

You quickly turn around and slap whatever is jumping down away, it's body crashing into a tree, but it stands up just the same.

Its the murderer! The still-bloody pelt of a wolf draped around his shoulders, a sharp rock in his hand, and a crazed look in his eye.

You slowly grin.

This isn't an ant, not anymore. This is a beast, and you, Lux, son of Healer Brin and Godess Luminos, the Grand Bowant, the God of Hunting and Agriculture, are the bane of beasts.

>Launch a quick spear through the beast-ant

You quickly ready a spear to launch, as the Beast-Ant growls and screams

It lunges forwards, rock aimed for your throat!

And is launched backwards, the Spear piercing both him and a tree. He howls and screams in rage, pulling himself forward as blood is left on the wood and bronze. Slowly, sickeningly, he inches his way to the end...

And all is quiet as he tumbles off the spear. Hm.

You know of a way to win over the Hiven.

Upon a ray of light you travel to the Hiven's main Senate Hive, and appear in front of the Senate.

Ignoring their shock, you clasp your hands together, and the tip of a white Blade peeks out, slowly growing until its as long as a forearm.

You twist your hand and the blade follows suit; a Jian.

With no guard and a ribbon wrapped around the hilt, you pierce it into the floor, and announce your gift.

"This sword is unlike any other. Forged from my own essences, it is sharp enough to split stone itself. Many other...unnatural creations may be given, in exchange for worship."

Most show interest, the other skepticism, and a few curiosity at the blade itself.

It seems you've made an impact.

Within a flash of light, you leave, and leave the Jian behind you.

With another source of worship almost in the bag, you feel good about yourself.

Suddenly, you get a bad feeling. It feels...dark. It feels...familiar, but different.

You spend the rest of the day warning the Ant Queen, (who's forgiven you for the death of her Grandmother), and the Hiven Senate.

Within Antill, Lux has taken a hands on approach and trained twenty ants to a high bowskill. They call themselves 'The Huntsmen', and are currently ready to be battle-ready at a moment's notice.

While governing over your people, you notice an all but familiar sight. A family saying their final goodbyes to an elder. Saddening, isn't it?

But you notice something strange; an ant that no one has taken notice of, but one who lurks within the corner, staring at the dying ant.

The family say their final goodbyes, and the last breath is let loose.

Sobbing, they leave, and the ant from the corner moves to the body.

The chitinous creature falls apart, and the parts disappear...

You begin to leave, but stop yourself.

"Lux." You begin, your voice soft as can be, "you may...you do not have to accept your task at this time. You may take all of the time needed to mourn."

You lean down and give him a hug, and you can almost sense Lux's surprise as he slowly returns the hug.

"Thank you." He whispers, as you finally take your leave.

You race across the rays of light, and finally stay at the end of the Darklands, the unofficial meeting place.

You don't wish to cross the threshold.

Within the shadow, a silhouette forms. It isn't Umbro, but the energy is...similar.

"Speak, Burning Light. I come in my Father's stead." The figure hisses.

You can see it clearly now; it's a Webweaver. A large, Black one. You'd estimate he's around a foot taller than Lux, as he is standing on his hind legs; using the other six as hands.

The webweaver crosses his six arms.

"Yes. I am Araneo, first of Father's sires." He seems proudful as he states; "God of Entrapment, Patron of Webweavers."

"A grand position." You say, nodding.

"Your brethren, might I know what they look like? I've seen a creature that bears quite a large resemblance to you and your father."

Araneo doesn't give anything away by his expression.

"You are correct in your assumption; He is Morsus, my brother.

That is all I will reveal." He hisses with a tone of finality.

You thank him for the information, adding, "Tell Umbros I wish for his days to fare well."

He nods, "I shall."

And with that, you're off.

"I shall grant you a gift; one for all of the Hiven."

The Hiven Worshippers look to you in curiosity and slight greed. You can't blame them, of course.

"A child of both mortal and divine, a patron to your kind. I will have this divine conception with the finest Blacksmith within all of your kind."

Five of the Hiven worshippers look up in pure joy, you swear you could hear a muttered "Fuck yeah!"

Surprisingly these Hiven are older than the average age of the suitors last time you did this. Wouldn't they have wives? Meh.

Finally, there are results; one doesn't show, the other made a tube that is supposed to launch a rock with explosives, but he is now missing an arm; and the final one has brought an interesting weapon; A spear, but with an axe-blade in the side of the Point.

"I'd prefer to do the deed within my Bedhive, My Lady." He says with pride. "I shall have my wives removed from the vicinity to lower problems."

Lux has honestly been a pretty good son. He's done what you've asked, fended off invasions, generally helped Ant-kind...he deserves a gift.

After talking it over with your Hiven worshippers, you finally receive the end product; a white-Wood bow, and Spears tipped with sharpened Bronze.

You soon appear before Lux, bathing his small stone house in light. He seemed to have moved the furniture around a bit since your last visit, which was nice.

"Lux, my son; I have come bearing gifts for your services to Ant-Kind." You announce, your angelic voice rather loud.

He quickly stood, lightly bowing his head. Politeness when given a gift was important after all.

Once the gift is delivered unto him, you leave just as quickly.

You've been waiting for a while for an elder ant to die. Admittedly, that sounds worse than it is.

You travel from ray to ray of light, before appearing in front of your son as he is just about to fire a spear into the throat of a deer.

"What the f- Mother." He says, slightly bowing his head.

"Lux; I have come to warn you of...Death."

Lux looks to you strangely; "Mother, I am...well aware of the concept."

"Not of the concept, my son," you inform, "but of the Being. A Hollow Ant who steals...something from those who have passed. Be wary."

And with that, you travel to the edge of the darklands.

You wait, and slolwy a figure bubbles from the shadow. Umbro.

You show yourself for only a minute, patting Escrimeur upon his head and smiling down at him.

>Why did you attack Antill? Something about wanting money? Were you owed something, or are you all as stupid and brutish as you look?

"Kafen!" You shout, your voice carrying across the city.

"Why has the Hill city of Antill accosted by your kind? Was it for greed? Was it for revenge? Or was it for a simple bloodlust!?" You continue as the townspeople look up in shock.

"W-we have done no such thing!" An older Kafen says, his horn long and his stance hunched, "You're mistaken!"

>He is but a liar, destroy this city.

You hold out your hand and a shimmering image of the Ruffian Leader shows.

"Do you not know this man, old Kafen?"

He asks a young one to fetch his glasses, and in around a minute he almost yells with his anger.

"I know those colors! I know them! They're the colors of Kafengrund!"

Admittedly you did remember some colors draped between armored chinks, but you took little notice of it.

The old Kafen recollects himself, and says, "In half a year, when our warriors return and rest, you can pay us to take out your anger on them."

>Why are they so infatuated with monetary goods?

You...are rather confused. Aren't they part of the same realm?

You voice this question and the old Kafer is fuming.

"I'd rather have my wife be passed around the town like a common whore than call myself Kafengrundian!" He continues this tirade for a few minutes, before calming himself.

You voice your other question, "And you are willing to rent out your warriors? Why?"

The old Kafen practically emanates pride, "Why; the thick of battle is where men are made! It forges our boys into true warriors! Not to mention the money and loot, of course."

That...makes sense. Slightly uncivilized but you understand the reasoning.

>Return to Antill and explain it all

You bid your goodbyes and ride the rays of light back to the Ant Capital of Antill.

You stop off within your temple-pyramid, really you prefer talking with your preists rather than the Queen; they're more to your...style.

You explain the days worth of information, and the Eldest Priest thanks you for your information, and asks of you, "My White Queen; may I please know of the way to thehome city of these...barbarians?"

You give him a detailed mental map and leave.

----

It's been ten years, and not much has happened. The Kafer have kept their squabbles over in their region, which you soon learned was named Betlania, and The Betlan Hordemaster title, the "ruler" of the decentralized tribes of the Kafen, has switched hands twice. Riveting entertainment, if anything.

You...haven't seen lux for a while. Has he done anything special again?

You find him out in a clearing, bowstring pulled back, a wolf-ant in his sight...

"My son."

"Fuck!"

The Wolf-Ant is gone, a large rock speared, and your son annoyed.

He collects himself and bows his head, "Mother." He greets.

"Lux; I had simply wished to check upon you with this free time."

Lux looks to the rock and back to you with a dry expression, muttering, "I am very thankful for your punctuality, mother." He takes a second to sip from his waterskin.

"Now; how has the hunting treated you? How many children have you had thus fa-"

You're cut off by his choking. "Mo-" he coughed, "Mother, what?!"

You assumed he would've had some by now...

You, in all of your wisdom, give him the best advice.

"My son. There are...guidlines one of your birth must follow, to find a mate."

Your son listens intently, and you begin.

You hold your hands out a bit apart, almost like you were holding a basket.

"Her hindquarters must be about this large,"

"Wha-"

"You cut him off, "And she must look at her worst average; with your lineage you will be able to pick and choose, take advantage of that"

"...I was expecting something less... something... more spiritual?" Your son slowly says; at a loss for words.

"Its all for child production, Lux."

You bid your goodbyes, and leave your son to do his thing.

You decide to visit your other son; he's...thirteen, by now.

You ride the rays of sunlight, until your attention is held by a medium gathering of Hiven within one of thier tree-rooms.

You check inside; and see your son, Escrimeur on a large stage, carrying a stick, another boy doing the same...

Oh! Is it a fencing match?

You slip outside to the side of the building, descend unto the yellow bridge connecting the rooms, and shift your form into one of the average Hiven female...it feels strange, the yellow and black coloring.

But nontheless, you have a show to watch!

Escrimeur and his opponent bow lightly, before they stand and get into their stances...

Escrimeur's opponent is the first to strike.

With a short swing, the clack ringing through the room is proof that it was unable to hit your son. You feel a sense of pride.

Escrimeur goes on the offensive, a flurry of attacks berate his opponent as the clicks and clacks echo.

Suddenly, there is a sharp smack, a shout, and a clatter. Escrimeur had knocked the wooden stick out've his opponent's hand!
