I know that this is what Kya wants, and the morals of this world consider this perfectly normal and acceptable, but I wonder if this cavalier attitude to creating new intelligent life, people by our standards, as Pets, is good for us.

Uhm I realized its my fault, I should have described things more thoroughly, hold on...

The aviary is quite large. It isn't a stable for gryphons like the one on top of the keep, but it is an actual aviary like you might see in a zoo. Meaning, it is probably quite large, as it has trees and perching platforms and bird houses inside it, plus room for pretty, low level flying monsters to fly around inside.

We also had the honey faeries start a hive here, so the back garden is getting pretty cramped and we can't really just drop a mew on top of it all.

Its one or the other. We -could- build have the aviary torn down and rebuilt/moved to the front garden I guess, but in that case we would probably need to rebuild the whole garden to make it into an attractive part of the garden...

Hmm... well, I guess we can always just [Treestride] so we could have the mew built in the island manor's grounds, since we own the entire island anyway. Its not like it HAS to be here.

So, build a mew in the island grounds and use the aviary here as is (after having the bird houses and such cleaned, first)? I guess there's no rush unless we are breeding Kya -right now- and don't want the new pets to be stuck inside our [Menagerie].

We could also not build anything and just have them stay in the menagerie or even just have them be 'free range' in the island, I guess, though I feel like that would be a little mean since we should be at least responsible enough to provide some accommodations to creatures we are bringing to the world.

On the other hand we could have them replace flying monsters in the island, I guess? Right now all we have there are 'normal' tropical birds.

Having said that, look up 'Harpy Eagle'. I love reading as much as the next guy, but they're quite impressive so I recommend youtube. Seeing an eagle large/strong enough to hunt monkeys and tear researchers off trees is quite impressive.

This is what this manor looks like right now. The excuse is that the aviary was the hobby of the previous owner, though obviously I placed it there thinking we'd use it.

I guess removing it to make room for the honey faeries is not a bad idea, either, and there's no reason we HAVE to have an aviary in the first place. We don't have any purely decorative bird-type monster we can place in there, if we're not using it for Kya and her 'flock' anyway.

We could just disassemble it, make room for the hive, and build the mew in the island. Does that sound good to you?

With the kind of fun we like to get up to with our Pets, having Kya and her flock stay on the island is probably the best for our reputation.

And we can consider catching some regular bird monsters to show off in our aviary; we should see what evolutions are available anyway.

We lean our head slightly back so we can turn towards her... its rather uncomfortable, but the up front and ultra close look at our pretty shoulder angel more than makes up for it, though we'll probably don't do it this way most of the time.

"Ah, it may be a little rude but..." - yeah this is downright uncomfortable - "She can actually do maid work, can't she? Properly, I mean."

She looks a little annoyed. Well, she grew up with civilized succubus around her so I guess she feels she should defend their work ethics right now.

Yah, this is a lot more comfortable, I guess we'll talk like this most of the time. It is a little rude to talk to someone without looking at them, but in her case, it's dowright uncomfortable, plus she's a pet by choice, so I guess its alright to treat her like one.

Well, she was raised as a princess, after all.

Oh, would it be better if she rides on top of our head instead...? But now that we're aware of it, we do move our head around a lot. Guess we'll give it a try.

By our cute empress' decree, our province extends from the sea to our west, to the end of the eastern swamp. While villages and cities sit in a 'thin' band of usable land between the sea and the swamp, we don't really know how large the swamp is.

So far, our honey faeries have explored it a little, but report not finding the other edge, which at their flying speed probably means the swamp is more than a hex wide.

Well, they don't go further than half a day away from their hive if they can help it, though, since they like to be back by dusk so... have to take that with a grain of salt.

We start tickling Kya's side and push her down with our fingetip, rolling her over and starting to rub at her tummy and torso while sitting down to think about it.

The nomads don't go into the swamp, either.

Maybe we could organize a rockitship expedition? Surely going by air is still much better than trying to waddle through the flooded lands. Well, I guess it depends on our objectives.

We look down at our pet princess and find that Kya is just lying down with her eyes closed as she rolls to left and right so we rub her evenly. Hh, so that's what complete happiness looks like.

Would it be better to send a land expedition first? Just to walk around the swamp's borders to find out its size before getting into the logistics of exploring the swamp itself.

We could buy relay stations at even distances around its perimeter so explorers can use those as bases to explore the swamp's innards from, trade and ressuply.

Yeah, that sounds more reasonable than just comissioning some adventurers with 'go explore and report in a year' I guess.

Its not as if we are in desperate need of the resources that may be there or anything. We'll have our hands full just with finishing the pacification of the tribes as is, planning the update and renewal of streets and infrastructural in town.

Which reminds us, should we increase the number of resources produced in the city or the countryside? Urban migration is a problem, after all...

We help our imoutos prepare sandwiches. They explain that dad, Lyann, mom and uncle Dan are talking about the upcoming [ERROR] attack, and about who whill go to help defend the city and who will stay to help defend this area from stragglers.

Unlike with the island, this time it is not a self-contained environment, and there will surely be hundreds of roaming [ERROR]s, maybe even thousands, each trying to 'recruit' unwilling people and make them into new, small armies.

And so our imoutos are preparing sandwiches and fruit juice.

Why outside of campus? Because that way there's even less chance a male student can wander into it 'by mistake', of course.

And the maid would decrease the already low chances of a young gentleman 'accidentally' walking into the dorm and yet even MORE 'accidentally' walking into her room. I mean, the maid is to make sure she's well taken care of.

After all, she's been taken care of her whole life. Its just now that she's even preparing a sandwich on her own. Dad seems to imply that he wouldn't be 1/2 as worried if we were talking about Zoe, as apparently our kitty imouto would quickly take over said guesthouse, manage everyone's shopping, laundry, study, leisure and vacation time like it was no biggie.

Well, she has been helping around the house since she was a literal baby, and by 4 she was already trusted to run errands and go shopping, so... yeah.

Its not as if we can't understand dad's worries, either. I mean, our imouto is exceptionally bright, but she hasn't really interacted with 'bad people' enough to have any built-in suspicion/resistance, does she?

Now, about those marriage proposals... aren't they all politically-minded? Surely neither dad nor mom have any plans of forcing Athena into such a thing?

Apparently, while they believe in love, they aren't against marriage of conveniences either. So long as both partners agree to it, and some of the conditions offered are actually pretty good.

Turns out, mom wrote back to every candidate (mostly to say thanks but no thanks), and a few wrote back, which meant she had to write back to basically ask them to take a hint, which led to a scarce few insisting anyway, and making interesting concessions and promises.

As it stands, there's a few candidates mom thinks may actually be a good choice:

A youngster exactly Athena's age, who is going into the military academy this year. Since both their study plans take a minimum of four years from this point, they could start as nothing more than pen pals. His family actually has several workshops and smithies in the northern regions, so they are offering Athena her own workshop as a wedding gift.

A young man just graduating the military academy (thus four years her senior, but four years is barely a difference in this world. And Lyann is 5 years older than us so we can't really say anything about it) that has inherited his family's rather considerable amount of 'old money' and, having heard about Athena's intelligence, is interested in having her manage his house, businesses and properties while he dedicates wholeheartedly to his military career. This would give her quite a bit of freedom, in many ways.

We sit up in the bed, and consider the room. It is quite ample, as you'd expect from an empress, though somewhat minimalist. There's three fine wood and ivory dressers against the southern wall, flanked by a beautiful paper folding screen and a vanity table with a triple crystal mirror and a soft looking chair.

The bathroom door is on the eastern wall, with the room entrance on the western wall, flanked by a low, smooth circular platform. The northern wall has a small weapons rack with numerous spears on it, as well as some shields and chests, which makes for a small, self-contained armory.

The Elite 4 Squad is composed of Eldric and Stella, so technically we could have the other XP Grind Party composed of a full 5 members and Eldric; Eldric could be in both parties at once.

But that isn't good, because then the attribute gains from level-ups that our Pets would get wouldn't be as good than if they were also in an Elite 4 Squad.

Let's pull the entire XP Grind Party out for now, and wait for Bastion Morning (in 9 hours) so that we can go to the Bastion Adventurer's Guild and we can get 3 members of the new Elite 4 XP Grind Squad as part of an Elite 4 Squad.
The new Squad will be Atruma (NEET dragon), White Mantis A, White Mantis B.
Atruma will need to protect the White Mantis A and B until their levels are high enough that they can start fighting the Ants on their own.

Then once they're high leveled, we can find some way to get the Mantis to interact with people enough that they can Evolve into a human-form, like Krabby did.
