In your dreams you were visited by the GODDESS OF MEAT who delivered unto you a great task.
"Impressed am I with your skill, BUTCHER," she spoke. "I command you now. Find my DAUGHTER where the fields flow with gold, and with her, seek out the GREATEST CUT of meat ever to be butchered."

When you awoke, you found the mythical GREAT KNIFE stuck into the floorboards of your trusty cart. Now with a divine blessing in hand, you begin your journey

The only crew members of your cool trusty cart are you and your horsie, CHUCK. After sneaking into his treat bag last night, he is now a certified BAD BOY.
The cool air coming from within your enchanted cart blows lightly against your back as you look about the field. The DAUGHTER OF MEAT could be anywhere. From here can you see a RAMSHACKLE HOMESTEAD out in the grain, an OMINOUS CAVE near the green trees, and an ABANDONED FORTRESS up on the mountain.

After some protest from Chuck, you put the BAD BOY BLINDERS on the horsie. The journey up the mountain is long, so you give Chuck a few apples and carrots along the way. Good horsie.

Arriving at your destination, you reach the bottom of a cart's worst enemy. Stairs. Not even Chuck could haul it up these bad boys. From where you sit, you can look up to see a few figures near the entrance of the fortress. They look mean.

"Sell you provisions," You grumble. "Five silver per rabbit."
The blue goon tilts his head at your offer. "Eh? You wanna sell us meat?"
"We are runnin' a bit low..." The green one hums for a second before walking back up the steps and gesturing for you to follow.

Inside is a small campfire in the cold, empty, stone hall. The two rest by it, taking a breath of relief. "So, you got food for sale? Five silver you say?"
"Aye."
The blue one steps away and starts digging through a trunk leaned against a pillar. You nod your head over to the green one. "Looking for the daughter of the Goddess of Meat. Know where she is."
"You lookin' for a demigod here? Ehhh... 'kay then. 'Fraid you're outta luck, only ones here are us two and eh... that girl somewhere."
He looks nervously at the large blade resting on your shoulder, shifting in place while you ask another question. "Why are you here."
"Loot- er, treasure hunting," The blue one answers as they return with a handful of coins. "That girl, Rosemary, hired us as bodyguards for her little expedition. We're getting paid in whatever we can nab."

"This place have any monsters."
The blue one hands over the coin for the rabbits while the green scratches his chin. "We haven't run into anythin' too scary so far. Pray the gods it stays that way. If I remember what the girl told us though, long time ago a dragon attacked this place."
The blue slaps the green's arm with the back of their hand. "Don't go getting his hopes up like that," they scold. "Dragons are extinct, no matter how eternal legends say they were. The girl's lookin' for a ghost, worst we'll find is kobolds I'm betting."

"Shouldn't you be guarding your employer." You gruff. The green one looks deeper into the fortress, and the blue rubs the back of their neck sheepishly.
"Well, we were guarding her. Just called for a rest and a piss break. Was just finishing up when you came clanking up the steps, butcher."
"Impatient li'l thing," the green interjects. "Should look for her, can't have gone off too far, right?"

The three of you venture into the dark by torchlight, searching through the old stone for the missing ringleader. After some time and not enough results, you stumble upon a tunnel in the wall. It leads down, down, down into the darkness of the mountain.

The blue one bends down slowly and picks up the soggy torch, not taking their eyes off of the many that look at you. "That was the only one we had, and now it's soaked. Not like we have another campfire to light it with down here."
As you grip the handle of the Great Knife, its blade begins to glow gently. A slight red faintly illuminates just enough to let you see your own hand as you hold a rabbit out to them.

You hear hushed hissing and chattering among the eyes before one of them speak up in a tongue like your own
"Bring food? What you doing here, Hah-heh?"
Sniffing of the rabbit carcass ensues

You twist a leg off of the rabbit and hand it over to one of the critters. It nibbles it a bit before wolfing the thing down. "If you want more," you start. "Tell us where we can find the employer of these two, and the daughter of the Goddess of Meat. Could sell some, could use help too."
A couple of the things continue to sniff at you before one squawks and yips to its friends. "Meat-bringer! Cart-bringer! Meat cart-bringer, he, he!"

You send blue back to grab another torch and continue on with the green one. The crowd leads you along through winding tunnels in the earth, some dark and others lit with the odd spare torch, glowing mushroom, or lightning bug in a jar. The chattering Kobolds slowly peel off from the group to return to their business until only one remains.
The little scaly creature brings you to a chamber where at last you see light, and beyond it, the gargantuan skeleton of a great beast. Before its skull sits a small wheeled cage where a woman rests against the bars.

"Master!," The kobold calls out. "Brought meat cart-bringer! Bring offering of meat cart to you! Meet, meet meat!"
It looks past the cage and at the great carcass as if waiting for a response. The green one taps your arm and gestures towards the cage. "There she is. That's her." He whispers.

You offer up your last whole rabbit to the once great being, kneeling and setting the meat before it. "Your master is dead, little one." You tell the kobold as you rise back to your feet.
"Not dead! Not dead! Master only rests! Long-life being needs long rest... long rest, yes..."
He lets out a soft whine as he looks back up to the skull.

The woman in the cage stirs awake as you address her to the critter. "The woman, why is she in a cage," you say.
"Offering to master! Good-good, powerful blood in veins! Master would speak again if bring her, we thought," He shakes his little head. "But master still tired... Will be happy when wakes!"
"I've told you, your master won't be waking," The woman interrupts. "Her spirit has long parted from these bones."
The kobold hisses and bonks the bars of her cage with his little club. "Shut-Shut you! Bad words from your mouth, nyah-neh!"

"Her spirit could have been reborn already," You assert. The woman nods and gestures to the kobold.
"The... er, butcher is right. Your master could be out in the world again, you only need to find her."
The little lizard visibly perks up at your words, but remains wary. You speak, "Let me see your leader. Elder. I want to talk about buying the woman's freedom, among other things."
After a moment of consideration, the kobold nods in agreement. "I take you when ready."

And let's not forget freedom isn't free. Rosemary already owes us for the second and third rabbit along with at least half a days work.
>>
>>4452723
Hows this: they free the nice lady, and in exchange one of them will travel with is. They would have better Hope's of finding their reincarnated dragon boss if some of them travel, instead of just staying here.

By the way, dragons typically have hordes of treasure they they usually guard. Would their partially dead boss happen to have any treasure left? I ask not for my own selfish means, but so we could pay for your travel expenses and use the finds to find your boss.
Also I would like to acquire some of the bones. It might help if there is a means of tracking them magically. (Not to mention they might be worth something pretty.)
>>
>>4452952
I'm against disturbing the bones. They have no meat and thus no business with us. We already have the mythical GREAT KNIFE.
I'm also against calling the looter. probably looting kobolds, that owes us a nice lady for now. She's not to be trusted, but we may as well see this rescue through.
There may or may not be a new dragon, let alone a reincarnated one, but it's sad seeing these guys worship a great creature with no meat. What we told them isn't a lie, but it might not be the truth.
I completely agree that if the kobolds trade something of value, like dragon treasure, they may have an emissary travel out with us into the world to try and find their new master. We are a tradesman first after all.

After walking and patting 'bolds along the way, you arrive at a small chamber that hosts an old kobold sitting on a pillow. He grunts and sniffs as you enter. "Human comes before us bearing meat. What does the human want?"
"I want the freedom of the woman you have caged," you answer, resting the tip of your blade down. The kobold snickers gruffly and leans forwards
"Kekekehh... And what does the human offer in return, haah-heh?"
"The return your master to you. Her soul's reincarnation."
His scaled brows raise, then he nods for your escort to leave you be. Slowly, the elder rises from his seat and approaches. "The human would bring back our dragon? This would be a great service to koboldkind. Not a simple journey. The human understands what it offers, yes?"

You kneel next to the little lizard and clear your throat. "I am on a quest from the Goddess of Meat. If I help you, it may show the path to aid on my journey. That, and... the tale of a dragon who loses her tail and must return to her kin sounds an exciting one to be a part of."
The old kobold considers your words for a moment, scratching his chin and humming out a groan of thought. Eventually he hrumphs with a bunp of his tail against the flat of the great knife. "Very well. We will release the woman in exchange for your oath of service. If the human wants one of our kin to join fellowship, the human will have to pay in meat from cart."

>Trade some meat for some minions.
>Take the woman, make sure she knows she owes us

"My word is my bond." You place a hand over your heart and bow to the old kobold.
"Very good. When the human is ready, go to the cart and we will speak of companion."
Grabbing another kobold as you exit, you return to the cage and free the woman, the great knife glowing merrily again as she steps down. Now reunited with Rosemary, the green one, and the blue one that had arrived with a torch sometime after you left, you speak with the woman to make a matter clear.
"You-"
"Are in your debt," She rudely interrupts, letting her ratty cloak fall to the floor with a huff. "I know, butcher. While I do thank you for getting me out of that cage, I am not pleased that I do not yet have my freedom."
She looks back to her bargain bin mercenaries before setting her hand on her hip and scrutinizing you. "What would you have of me then?"

I haven’t said it yet, but I love the art.

Explain boringly that services can be exchanged for money, goods, or other services. Current services required, if she doesn’t want to pay up, are: info on finding the GODDESS OF MEAT’S DAUGHTER’S location, and the acquirement and selling of more meat.

"I want information first, then you and your hirelings' help on my quest."
"Eh? What?" The blue one asks. "Us too?"
The green one adds, "Yeah, hold on now, we never agreed to nothin'. All this girl did is take us on a job with no pay!"
Rosemary sighs, not bothering to respond to the goons, and sits back on the lip of the cage. "So, what do you want to know then, butcher?"

"What do you know of the Goddess of Meat and her daughter."
Her brow raises ever so slightly as realization flashes in her eyes. "Then you're..." She starts, but lets her thought trail off with a clearing of her throat. "...I don't know more than anyone else, I'm afraid. Hells, I'm a vegetarian."
"And what of the kobolds. They said you had 'strong blood'."
She simply shrugs her shoulders and casts her gaze lazily to the side. "They say draconids can smell bloodlines great and petty. Royal, godly, cursed, common, you understand. That's why they used to kidnap princesses so often. I had no idea I was as 'strong-blooded' as they say. Perhaps they're mistaken, being relics of the past, Sir knight."
Her feet shuffle on the dirt and rocks of the cave floor, and her hands lightly grip the edge of the cage she sits upon.

The blue one suck their teeth and groans. "With nothing to loot, this was all a waste of time for us. I don't suppose you have any compensation other than meat, eh butcher-man?"

>What do you do?

>"At the very least, I can cook up some meals for you guys while I take you back to civilization, plus a share of whatever loot any bandits and marauders might have if you help defend the cart."

To Blue & Green: Meat is the very highest of compensations. What good is a golden chalice with no banquet? Even the richest of kings is a poor man with a bad butcher. Maybe staying here with the kobolds as a sacrifice to dragon bones would be more agreeable to you.
To Rosemary: You’ll get along well with Chuck. He’s a vegetarian too.

"Meat is the highest form of compensation," You begin, straightening your posture to stand at your full, towering height. "What good is a golden chalice with no banquet. Even the richest of kings is a poor man with a bad butcher. Perhaps staying here with the kobolds as a sacrifice to dragon bones would be more agreeable."
The mercenaries grumble, displeased but not about to speak more against a tower of steel with an enormous knife.
"At the very least, I can cook meals for you while we take you back to civilization. You may even have a share of whatever any bandits or marauders might have if you help defend the cart," You offer.
The blue one sighs through their nose. "Alright then. That's... an acceptable offer."
"Come then. Let's go."

With your group sorted, your kobold guide leads you to the mouth of their cave where you are finally reunited with Chuck. He neighs at your presence, relieved, but not wanting to show it. A few kobolds gazing upon your majestic meat cart scamper off in your presence, but one stays to hand you a picture list of sorts. "Here, here! Kobolds for you, Kah-keh!"

While looking over the list, you decide to strike up a conversation with Rosemary. "You'll get along with Chuck. He's a vegetarian too," You say, patting your horsie's mane and taking off his bad boy blinders.
"The meat-ing of the century, surely."
"...Why are you a vegetarian."
She raises an eyebrow at you, playing with one of the tassels on her shawl, then looks off at the kobolds. "I suppose I simply have an... aversion to it. Simple as."
"Is it not delicious?"
The woman crosses her arms and shuffles uncomfortably.
"...to some, I'd imagine."

>ROGUE

You hand over one slab of pork belly for a KOBOLD ROGUE companion. Your crew grows ever larger.
A kobold with scales that shift in color approaches and quickly bows her head. "Th-Thank you, butcher-man. I am honored to join your quest."
She rustles her grass cloak and steps up next to your cart, matching its color.

>Have Kammy scout for game as we head towards the homestead.

You load up your crew into the one chilly compartment your cart has and set off out of the cave mouth. Looking to the sky, you see that the sun has set and the moon has risen.

"Little one. What are you good at," You ask the kobold.
"Hah-heh? Me? I can hide and scout... a-and shoot with my bow! Shoot targets, at least." The little lizard crouches into her cloak, becoming shrub-like.
"Know where good game is around here."
She shakes her snout. "No-no. Never left the cave before. Others always worried I would get lost and no one could find me. But I am grown now!"
You gesture with your head towards the field. "Then let your first time be now. Scout the field and meet up at that homestead when you're finished.

Kammy nods enthusiastically and hops down into the tall wheat, disappearing instantly. After more riding, you arrive outside the homestead and park the cart. The two goons along with Rosemary hop out, rubbing their arms and shivering.
"I-I-Is it a-always so c-c-cold in there?" the green one asks

I love the perspective with the moon so far off in this one. I'm a sucker for landscapes like this.

To Green: Yes. It almost completely stops the spoilage of meat. You seem to have not spoiled too much yet. You have much to learn about meat.

Good time to sleep? Tomorrow we'll teach whomever in the party wants to how to make sausage and bone meal out of our pail of bones and offal. The spices and herbs really make the meat when it comes to sausage

I presume Kammy is nocturnal at this point.

"Yes. It slows how quickly the meat spoils." You look the three shivering meatlets over before moving towards the door of the homestead. "You don't seem to have spoiled much. You've much to learn about meat."
"I-I-Is that all you th-think of, s-s-sir knight?" chatters Rosemary with a shake of her head.

The four of you give the abandoned homestead a once-over, and upon finding it safe enough for the night, get settled in. Rooms are assigned, and Kammy returns with four rabbits and two rats just in time for dinner. After a quick meal, the time for sleep nears. Your group rests for the night, setting the green and blue ones on shifts to keep watch for what lurks in the dark.
