Welcome to X-com Quest! This is be a quest based on the development of the titular organization X-com from its foundational years up to and through the alien invasion.

This will be following a similar path to the X-com Ufo Defense mod X-files where we will begin small tackling cults and small creatures and fighting for every cent of our budget. This will be a strategy focused game where most of the focus is in the geoscape rather than individual battles.

Last thread our commander Clarissa Farthings worked through half a mountain of extraterrestrial reports, hired a mostly reliable team, bought illegal weaponry, and captured then researched the first monster.

>#Hire some more help. 65

With your new budget its time to hire some additional help. With 190K as budget you can get a fair few more agents. You deliver your request to the HR department specifically looking for individuals that are experts in wildlife capture and some more paper pushers to get through the backlog. Throughout the week you interview several individuals although only a few meet your standards.

>Select as many agents as you want each agent costs 40k to hire 10k maintenance.

Harvey Barber - Australian - Hunter and trapper, After a number of years working by contract for ecologist and biologists they finally joined the UN full time. However the need for capturing animals in Australia is running thin so they were looking for a new line of work.

Cadence Jennings - British - Desk worker, A secretary for the last 8 years in almost every department you can think of, while their resume was solid it is a wonder why they never held onto any of those jobs.

Hannah Barris - Canadian - Has a master’s degree in animal behavior and has worked as an animal trainer for several years mostly with dogs but also come more exotic animals depending on what was needed. They have never trapped or hunted but said they have a theoretical understanding of how to do it.

Yildirim Asena - Turkish - A hunter that focuses on large beasts, mostly Ibex and boar however they have hunted bears on one occasion. Joined the UN recently to help in combating poaching and animal trafficking but found they didn't enjoy it as much.

Beaumont Desjardins - French - Translator/paper-worker. Joined the UN as a translator and got stuck translating thousands of old UN documents into English, French, German and Russian and digitizing them. Desperately looking for a transfer anywhere. Knows English, French, German, Russian and Latin.

>#Continue working through the paperwork. (Elias) 46 + 10 Veteran paper pusher = 56

You have Elias continue working through the reports. At the end of the week he reports some progress and your office slightly more tidy. However it appears with your last council meeting your superiors are taking this more seriously and having even more reports sent your way some truly ridiculously outlandish. Elias in his natural good naturedness is enjoying this wholeheartedly and shares the best with you in a side report.
>Paperwork 45% done
> Gained 1 investigation
> Gained additional information on 2 investigations

>#Get Live animal storage. (Harris) 97

Harris gives you a confident grin as he heads out to find you some storage for the animals, you're not sure what he has in mind but you're sure it will be interesting.

Later in the week Harris comes into your office almost jubilant, waving a piece of paper at you. “Ah got them tae agree tae th' deal.” deal?

He slaps it down on the desk finally letting you get a good look at it. This is written access to.. A bunker.. A Bunker under the UN building? Harris watches your confusion with glee as he begins to explain.
“weel Ah was daein' mah job brushin' shoolders wi' th' bigwigs aroond haur an' got myself talkin' tae a fella named Benjamin Owens ower a couple pints. real drinker 'at a body but he mentioned offhandedly abit an auld sub basement tae th' in buildin' used tae be a proper nuclear bunker back in th' days ay th' cold war. turns it it's bin left abandoned since they foond it th' soviets cood build bombs which cood level new york 10 miles deep. mostly jist some musty concrete rooms left. sae haur Ah am thinkin' waw farthings speart me tae fin' a place fur keepin' th' big critters an' Ah jist stumbled intae a braw wee secrit ay a soondproof concrete room reit belaw uir feit! huvnae seen th' place myself yit but ye coods probably request a pair ay keys frae th' higher ups an' we coods tak' a swatch!”

You almost don't believe him, but after a few cautious emails to your superiors you manage to get ahold of a key and a bland response to not destroy the place and to return any misplaced items left behind by previous departments.
It was as Benjamin Owens described, oppressively musty and utilitarian with enough spiders to give you the heebie jeebies in total it had 7 rooms which could easily be refitted as cells and 3 larger rooms which could be refitted to a lab or more storage.

>Gained nuclear bunker.

>#Get secret gun storage. (Yisabeth) 15

>You send Yisabeth to find someplace to store the weapons that you technically shouldn't have.

You explain to Yisabeth what you are looking for to hide these weapons you bought; she salutes and heads off to see what she can find.

Unfortunately it seems Yisabeth isn't as savvy when it comes to purchasing local property as weapons. She comes back a bit dejected and gives you the rundown of a few options. Turns out once they found out Yisabeth was government they upped the prices exorbitantly and even then there wasn't much good to be found.

>#Perform research on the Patagonian desert creature. (Florence) 83 + 5 professional histologist

As a leader you know it wasn’t your place to micromanage your employees but the wait for Florence’s report was a whole other exercise in patience. It took her until Thursday to come to your office with her report. She thumps it down on your desk, she did her work that’s for sure, the report had to be 30 pages plus. After looking at you leaf through some of the sections a bit lost she pipes up

“A lot of that is mostly scientific information for the record mostly what you are going to want to read is in the back”

Giving a thankful nod you leaf to the back pages and find a short dossier in the back

"L-001 is a invertebrate with many biological similarities other known invertebrates. It has an exoskeleton made of chitin with a thickness ranging from 5mm to 2cm covering most of the body with key protective sections thicker than connective joints. The internal biology had similar anatomy to a grasshopper with a vastly more complex tracheal system for respiration. Of note however it appears to have an incomplete female reproductive track which is often seen in insects and is indicative of a caste reproduction system. In laymans term this is a worker bee and there may be a queen. Analysis of the blood showed a highly efficient oxygen fixing heme groups something we would normally only find in mammals L-001 could likely survive oxygen deprivation for up to a week. Genetic tests were rather inconclusive as genetic material was tested against several known invertebrate species such as grasshoppers horseshoe crabs and several types of beetle and spider. Partial matches of at least 12 species could identified. It appears to be a hybrid of some sort. It appears to be poorly adapted to the location it was found at. Its large biology and implications of a colony reproductive system would find it difficult to find sustainable food in such an arid climate. As a predator it would require consumption of large mammals found from agriculture and for it to have evolved like that in Argentina is highly unlikely,

In conclusion of my findings there is reason to believe that this creature was somehow engineered based off of currently existing animals and somehow released into Argentina.

You thank Florence for her work investigating. It gives you much to think about.

Current investigations

# Crop Circles in Cuba. - After cross referencing several reports it turns out this is also occurring along the eastern side of the United states although much more sparsely
Multiple different farms have all been reported to been affected by crop circles. The local government and police force have passed it off as a gag done by teenagers. But what caught Elias’s eye is that rather than shared it with the news or police the farmers hid it as long as possible and never touched the crop circles. Some were even hostile when they were found and arrested.

>Threat potential None - light

#Dominating gang in Atlanta. - All reports of them come from minor news outlets and other gangs. Strangely the police make no mention of them even blaming other gangs where they are involved in all other reports. All reports of them also mention ridiculous reflexes that look super human

>Threat potential light to moderate

# Strange life form in the Argentinian Desert. - Harris and Yisabeth encounter the creatures proving their extreme danger. It may be worth going out again to try and get a live creature or gather more information on them.
Several reports of maulings and murders. All survivors claim to have seen a spiky creature the size of a moderate dog. The few bodies recovered have had much of their blood drained. A few hunters have gone out to hunt the creature and have not returned. The local police have forbid anyone from going to the area.

>Threat potential moderate

#Kidnapping cult in Xian. - Several more reports were found of similar actions occurring all over Asia. They are spaced out enough and with different enough details that someone not looking wouldn't notice. This isn't isolated to just one city and clearly planned.
There are several dozen reports of missing individuals in Xian all claiming they were kidnapped by a martial arts club. Weeks later they show up committing low level crimes and if captured appear to have no recollection of their life before the cult they refuse to speak of.

>Threat potential light

#*NEW INFORMATION Cattle Mutilations in Brazil. - weeks after these events several missing people reports have been filed for the farmers.
- In the farmland to the west of Salvador there have been dozens of reports of cattle mutilations. Most of these reports are from the families of the farmers. Many the farmers themselves have similarly to Cuba attempted to hide or prevent anyone from interacting with the cattle.

>Threat potential none - light

# Massacre in the North Pole. - A science team in the North Pole had gone missing for over a week when a survivor was found by a boat looking for them. The survivor after being warmed claimed they were attacked by large furry mammals like bears but standing as if humans and insanely strong. The crew of the boat claim this is temporary insanity caused by a white-out they get similar claims all the time.

>Threat potential unknown
>>
>>4445884

#Russian preppers - A few reports of villages being raided by what are being called Russian preppers. They are reportedly armed with Old Soviet armaments however their body armor appears to be entirely different. Reports of resistors say that they wear light jumpsuits that appear to be entirely bullet proof. When the Russian government appears to bring order the preppers have already left.

>Threat potential light - serious

#*NEW INFORMATION Cannibalistic Murders in India - Several individuals have been found apparently worshiping the murderers as they consume others. They quickly scatter when noticed however.
There are a string of reports of cannibalistic murders in southern India. The murderer is found each time actively consuming a corpse having little awareness for their surroundings. When later interrogated they seem to lack speech or are not willing to speak and are often aggressive trying to claw or bite others.

>Threat potential light

#Beasts in the forests of Germany - Several hunters are reporting what they call “Giant porcupines” in the forests of Germany. Most are being called sensationalist but two separate reports say otherwise. A man in the hospital with a quill as long as an arm through their leg and a picture of a man holding several quills up in a local tabloid.

>Threat potential light - moderate

*NEW CASES

#Missing cases in Britain - There has been a high uptick of missing cases in Britain from coastal towns. Alongside this there have been reports of fish eyed humans and bipedal scaled creatures coming out of the water. Apparently myths about these creatures have been around since the 30’s but only recently have they become popular.

When you head into your office the first morning to prepare for the next week you get to catch Harris excitedly showing off his scars to the boy who always brings in the reports.

# Hire some more help. Harvey Barber, Beaumont Desjardins

Harvey and Beaumont’s interviews were quick since you had plans to hunt down one of these creatures yourself later in the week but both of them were as stated on the resume. Skilled and competent people. Harvey appeared to be quite a light hearted fellow who would delight in telling you all sorts of nasty scrapes he faced in the outback and you had a feeling him and Harris were going to be birds of a feather although hopefully less of a drinker on the job. Beaumont however was more subdued and spent his interview methodically explaining his expertise in not just translation but for the history and nature of languages. Nerdy but good at what he does, you can see how a mind like his got bored with paper pushing.

Despite some initial grumbling about being transferred from doing paperwork back into paperwork Beaumont takes to the organization like a duck to water and Elias happily accepts a companion with open arms. Listening to their conversations you found Elias a smidge disappointed in Beaumont’s lack of interest in the weird nature of the work but you found the two of them nerding out over the concept of speculative alien languages. Some of their banter is a bit over your head but they are working faster than ever together.

Yisabeth 78
Harris 89

At the top of the week you give Yisabeth and Harris their assignment to check out the crop circles in Cuba, Yisabeth gives a hint of relief as crop circles won't likely end in combat while Harris jokingly accuses you of holding him back over the last mission accident. He isn't wrong this assignment is a bit of a softball compared to the last one but best to play it safe than risk a life again. You just tell him off for mouthing back and reinforce the importance of this investigation too; after all you are an investigations unit not a combat squad. Plus this time it’s your chance to get your hands dirty with it. God you miss a good boots on the ground mission.

>#Strange life form in the Argentinian Desert.Clarissa & Harvey with two infantry kits and the machine gun. Follow mission
Clarissa 71
Harvey 80

After getting everyone situated you get ready for your own mission with Harvey, taking along the soviet surplus gear including the PK machine gun. In one sense taking it with you will be difficult as it's harder to get past airport customs with a 20 pound machine gun and 2 AKs but you can flash your UN cards and people tend not to ask questions. You also don't need to worry about anyone back at base finding out about these as your bringing them with you.

The car ride to the airport was shared between all four of your going on mission as the flights happened to line up. After some bantering about how you can Harvey get the exciting mission you see Harris and Yisabeth off at the airport as you each head to your separate flights. The flight to Argentina gives you some time to learn about Harvey beyond the interview. Turns out past the hunting he has a passion for ham radio. Even going so far as to build his own tower in the outback in Australia near his house. You and him spend most of the flight talking about that and planes.

When you finally land unboard with your hefty traveling cases you're surprised at no point either of you stopped considering the amount of heavy gear you are carrying in the cases. Perhaps it's worth considering private transport in the future although you're not even sure how to get a hold of that.

The drive out to the desert is more of the same although being able to see the sights and sounds of Argentina is nice having never been here before. At a certain point in drive the thought of some strange bio-crafted creature praying on these people makes you upset, Which just ended up with Harvey looking at you somewhat concerned as you glared out the window of the rental truck.

By the time you reach the desert it's already dusk out. Considering you left New York on a flight at 5AM that really isn't bad time but it's also not the time you probably want to be hunting these things. While sleeping in the back seat of a truck parked behind a sand dune isn't what you would call comfortable you've had worse.
>>
>>4450461
At first light you wake up just as you were trained to in bootcamp. Harvey is up around the same time and he mentions something about the crack of dawn being the best time to catch your prey. Together you unpack the suitcases pulling out the gear you brought and mounted the rpk on the truck bed. You are slightly miffed at the lack of armor but then again it didn't seem to help Harris any. Harvey also brought some trapping gear; bear traps, bags of meat, and a hefty metal cage. Still a few miles out from where the creatures are supposed to be, you have a choice to make on how to tackle them and what your goal here is.

> Bait and trap them to capture one alive to bring back.
> Search their territory to find the supposed queen and capture or kill it.

We can do these two why not. Try to scout out their nest first and set up the machine gun outside it so we can murder them as they come out.

The workers will defend the queen with their lives, we're gonna get overwhelmed. Better just scout the nest and decide how we can destroy it in one fell swoop (that's why I voted to find us a demolitionist btw. Maybe we can loan one from Argentinian Army?)

We can probably combine these two options. Setting up a kill zone to distract the workers in order to find the nest as they hurry back with meat. Plus, if we have the LMG set up for a beaten zone, it should rip right through these creatures' carapace too.

An LMG's main effect is suppression. If they just rush us we're fucked.
Also I remember our MG being an RPK, not a PK? Those are two very different beasts. With an RPK we are even more fucked.

> Bait and trap them to capture one alive to bring back.
> Search their territory to find the supposed queen and capture or kill it.

You decide to try capturing one and see what you can do about finding their hive and queen. Harvey doesn't seem too interested.
“Didn't your scientist say that these were large game hunters, the only prey for them out here is us. The trap I agree with but hunting them down ourselves seems like suicide.”
“If it gets too dangerous we can end the operation.”
“What I’m worried is they won’t let us leave”
You go ahead with your plan anyways; as your subordinate Harvey doesn't have much say in the matter, something you are familiar with yourself.

You drive the truck over to where Harris and Yisabeth said they encountered L-001 . Nothing but sand and hills as far as you can see, but Harvey perks up explaining the signs of travel in the sand and spends about 2 hours sniffing over the place like a bloodhound. Eventually he picks out some tracks which he thinks match L-001 or at least don't match up with any animal he is aware off. You follow the tracks to some underbrush which the car can't go further into and Harvey tells you that the rest of the hunt would have to be done on foot looking glum at this. Good thing you brought your service boots that you have thoroughly broken in at this point. However sadly the pink shoelaces have been dirtied beyond recognition, you make a mental note to replace those when you get back.
The walk into the brush took you about an hour with a 15 minute break for water and rations. Eventually the path leads you to a sheer rock-face. Harvey spends some time looking at it trying to see where the tracks would go from there before deciding they go straight up the cliff face.
“Really? We are going to have to climb that?”
“Aw it's not that hard a climb, we’ve got some rope and it's got pleeny of places to put your feet!”
>>
>>4451514

the image is of a goat but you get the idea

Nervously you go along with it. It's not like you had a fear of heights but it's been awhile since you practically free climbed, you didn't have a harness or proper gear just a rope and some carabineers. Luckily as Harvey said there were plenty jutting rocks to climb up and it was easy to climb. Just as you peek over the edge of the cliff you see one of the things a few feet off.
“Harvey watch out they are up here.”

You hear the creature make a threatening noise like a much louder and deeper cicada that overshadows
“FUCK ME DEAD” Harvey yells
In the next moment it raises its profile at you and charges.

You let go of the rocks and let gravity take you. You tied your carabineer a few feet down and trusted the rock face to be kinder to you then that thing's claws. As you fall you hastily pull out the AK on your back just pulling in front of you as you slam into the rock face knocking the breath out of your lungs. From a side glance Harvey also pulled his out doing his best to be stable on the rock face then you look up and hear the scratching of claws on rock. The damn thing is able to climb perfectly. It skitters down the rock face using its claws, keeping it on path enough to not enter into free-fall straight towards you. You raise the AK up bracing your feet on the rock face to keep steady and fire at the Spiker. A loud screech echoes as several of the bullets hit it and it descends into free-fall flying right past you. Gunshots come from your right as you look at Harvey firing at another one descending from the cliff, it screeching and collapsing as well.

A moment passes where you both hold your breath looking around nervously for another before Harvey shouts.
“This is exactly why I didn't want to do this, just like what Florence said their apex predators and we are its food.”
Your heart is still beating hard from adrenalin and you have that same feeling of invincibility every time you pull a trigger. You ain't gonna be bug food today. You have precious time to get off this dam cliff and onto solid ground who knows how many more there might be. .
“Repel down now Harvey”

You both quickly slide down your ropes to the bottom of the cliff and pull the knots down holding them. You both analyze your surroundings seeing no more of them.
>>
>>4451516

Let's try to find a way to bring our truck up there, there probably is a better path then the clifface. And we will be safer with the car”

You travel back to the car and drive a roundabout way past the bushes to eventually reach the area you were ambushed and drive around the cliff till you find an area shallow enough to drive up. Once at the top you and Harvey follow the most recent tracks to what appears to be a cave.

“With any luck this is their den, smells enough like decay. Let's try and capture one of these buggers alive”

Harvey sets up a couple of traps using the raw meat and the materials he brought covering them in sand, along what he determines to be a commonly tread path by the creatures. Once done you double back to the car for the evening. By morning you hope you find something

Thankfully the night was a peaceful enough affair and when dawn broke you went to check the traps. As luck would have it one of the fuckers fell for it. Leg caught in a bear trap It was writhing and making ungodly noises as you approached. A few of the other L00-1’s were around it trying to force the thing open with their claws. This time you had the drop on them for they were too preoccupied. You and Harvey make a few shots at them putting them down in short order leaving the trapped one. As you approached the creature made that same cicada like sound as it looked at you. For good measure you try out a few tranquilizers Florence said might have half a chance of working until one of them knocks it out cold. You load it into the cage covering it with a blanket and go about the heavy task of loading it into the truck. First Mission accomplished.

Now you need to decide if you want to go into that cave and try for a potential queen. Only thing you have to see down there are flashlights and you have no idea how well they can see in the dark. Harvey obviously thinks it's a terrible idea.

I still want to go after a queen, but we should bring more back-up for it. Probably us, Yisabeth, Harris and Harvey fully kitted out and loaded for bear. Ping and mark the location on our maps and GPS so that we can find it again later. Even if they try to move the nest on us, if we bring Harvey along, he should be able to track where they head off to next. Plus, Florence will likely have more information on them when we go for it if we pull this live one back.

Deciding that heading down into the caves is too much of a risk you mark the location on the map for next time and make a mental note to see if you can get access to some of the military GPS tech for better mapping. Next time you come here you can clear them out with a full team.
“Harvey the one beast is good enough let's head home.”
He lets out an overblown sigh “Oh thank god”
You spend the next half an hour driving down the mountain you worked around earlier before Harvy points behind you.
“Are those things following us?”
You look into the rear view mirror and fuckers be damned, they are. You make out at least 6 of them sprinting through the sand, glancing at the speedometer you are going about 50 kilometers per hour. Dammit these things are fucking fast.
“Harvey get on the gun, kill them, I can’t speed up fast in these sands.”
Harvey unbuckles and moves past the seats into the truck bed where the gun is set up. “I don't think they would be chasing after a car just for hunting, do they know we captured one!” You see them speedily catching up to you.
“Harvey less talking, more shooting!”
You start hearing rapid gunshots from behind you as you focus on driving. Sand is nothing like good asphalt and you start thinking about what the man you rented from told you about speeding up fast when a bloom of sand explodes in front of you blinding your vision. You feel and hear a loud thump slam into your windshield then the glass shatter. You trust the flat plane you saw before you went blind and just barely stop yourself from stopping and swerving, something doomed to get your truck stuck in the sands.

You hear what sounds like a voice behind you but you can't hear it over the gunshots. The wind quickly blows away the sand leaving you seeing a Spiker on your scarcely together windshield. It seems to be quickly recovering and starts slashing through the glass trying to get at you. Trying to keep the car steady while staying out of the things expanding reach you grab towards your sidearm with one hand quickly pulling it up in front of you. Just at that moment it tears enough through the glass to fit its body into your truck swiping its claws at you. You just barely prevent the creature's claws from being deadly by letting go of the wheel and throwing your body to the side. You feel the car beginning to swerve as you unload half the clip of your sidearm into the thing. It spasms then falls forward and you kick it back through the windshield. Past the ringing in your ears you just notice the gunshots behind you stopped, quickly leaping up to check behind the seats you see Harvey pointing his AK right past you. As you turn around you see another one jump onto the windshield as you both fire into it.
>>
>>4452831

Both of you pause, waiting for something. Harvey slowly lets out a breath he was holding before looking at you concerned.
“Clarissa there is blood all over your face”
You reach up and feel the sticky warmth of your cheek, it must have hit your face.
“Get the water and the first aid kit”

After cleaning the wound you find it's nothing more than a two claw marks down the side of your face cutting through your cheek. Some bandages and disinfectant later you feel good enough to continue, although it makes breathing through your mouth annoying and painful. You pack up the two corpses dead in front of the truck and keep going, extra cautious this time.

Along the way back you grab the other two L-001 corpses from the bottom of the cliff face for good measure. You're sure Florence will appreciate every bit. Before heading back into any civilized areas you pack up all your gear, you are little disappointed you never got to use the PK machine gun sorry i keep switching the language it’s a PK not a RPK but you're sure you will get another chance.
>>
>>4452834

Returning the truck was a whole nother matter, the man was furious about the smashed windshield and the claw marks in the metal, demanding you pay for any repairs and no it does not fall under renters insurance. Knowing all you can do is give in, you pay the man and take your stuff all the while refusing to tell him what happened.

You decide to skip the hospital visit here for stitches and just wait till your home. The travel back was a little more difficult than getting here. Arguing with airport officials on the legality and safety of you bringing a “feral dog” onto a commercial plane took you about an extra hour until you got to the manager of the whole airport who was more scared of the government cracking down on them then any potential mishaps with the “dog”. Before loading the luggage you hit L-001 with another dose of the tranquilizer that worked, as it shakes angrily at you snapping at the bars. Hopefully this will keep it quiet for the flight. Between this and the truck you really need to get some private transport.

Harvey looks lost in thought on the plane so you spend most of the time nursing your drink trying not to get it in the wound and thinking about the fight. It appears to be you haven't lost your touch for combat but it puts you off how close you came to death, you promised your husband Pete you would see both your kids graduate at the least. In the future you need bigger guns and more personnel hopefully you don't get this close to meeting your maker again.
But L-001 continued to consume your thoughts for the rest of the flight. How intelligent L-001 must be to have been able to track you that way sends a shiver down your spine.

When you get back you finally get the stitches in your cheek while Harvey brings the creature to Florence’s cages. The doctor harshly chides you for waiting so long. You then head back to your office to get loaded up on the reports from everyone on the week.

#Refit the bunker. -7 small rooms 3 medium > Animal storage 5 animals of the same type per small room (5k) Florence 41

Florence has set up what she can best guess would be a good holding cell for L-001. Similar to what would be used for wolves or large dogs, there are 5 large metal cages taking up the room with latches for feeding and interacting with the creature. The latches are locked in case the creatures are intelligent and the metal thicker than normal just in case. You note some bitterness in her weekly update as she mentions something about this not what she went to school for.

When Harvey puts the creature in a cage it tries to escape initially but cannot get through the metal bars. It then sits and continues making the cicada like sound. Florence supposes it may be attempting to communicate with others asking for help. Could explain the truck ambush. It eats the meat you give it and drinks the water so keeping it alive shouldn't be much of an issue.

># Crop Circles in Cuba Yisabeth and Harris with two light field kits. Report
Yisabeth 78
Harris 89

Yisabeth and Harris give you their report together this time no visible wounds on either, which lets you breathe a sigh of relief. They pass you a folder while Yisabeth starts explaining.
“We chartered a private plane to get aerial shots of all of the crop circles. We have some 90 in all from Cuba and the eastern United states. In fact there is one only 30 miles from this building in New Vernon. We suppose there is some pattern to this Harris gave a crack at it but didn't find any pattern.
We then investigated the farmers. The ones in prison were unfortunately of little help. Their eyes seemed vacant and they didn't even seem like they were reacting to our words only physical stimuli, like they were in a waking coma. When investigating the local police officers they reported they never arrested them, some black suited men came and dropped them off providing proof of violent crimes and showing some government authentication. However none of them could remember what group they were from.“

“The ones still on their farms were somewhat more helpful if not hostile. Every farmhouse we drove up to we were met with some farmer or multiple with either shotguns or rifles pointed at us. Many of them flat out refused to speak with us at all and gave us the option of leave or be shot but eventually we found one to talk to us, or well Harris bribed him with beers in our truck”
Harris beams at this “very important wark materials.”

“Yes well the farmer was willing to sit down and talk to us and spread some light on some things.” She pulls out a tape recorder and places it on your desk.
“We have the full conversation recorded along with a couple other farmers that similar tactics worked on. They all confirmed the same thing, bright prismatic lights late at night, a solid form in the sky that seemed to be emanating from a floating solid object, an unidentified flying object if you would. This light seemed to cut and then gather up the fauna in a circular formation, although two reported their farm animals being taken as well. They then left their homes and confronted the UFO. One or two said they fired their gun at it, then next thing they know they woke up naked in the middle of the cut crops.”
>>
>>4452841
“Now the real interesting part is why they are hostile, later in the evening they woke up they all reported two tall men in black suits with emotionless faces confronting them at their house. They told them they are to tell no one of this experience and if they do that they will be “taken”. This alongside rumors of missing farmers made them hostile to any reporters or policemen. We looked into these suited men but could not find any record of who they could be or what organization they report too although we can reasonably assume they are the same that interacted with the police officers.

We then looked over the crop circle area but were unable to find anything different than expected, however we took samples of the area for Florence.

We would recommend the next step would be a stake out of the farmers we talked to, to see if the Black suited men show up, however I'm not really sure we want to get into a shooting match with another government. “

Well that's a ton more out of that then you expected and gives you a few new options.

Old cases

#NEW INFORMATION Crop Circles in Cuba. - Yisabeth’s and Harris’s investigation into this pulled up a lot of information. From Ufo sightings to dark suited men abducting farmers. They recommend a stake out of the farmers under risk to see if we can catch anything.

After cross referencing several reports it turns out this is also occurring along the eastern side of the United states although much more sparsely

# New information Dominating gang in Atlanta. - Recent reports have come in about a gang war including this one, too big to be out of major news. Supposedly over 50 opponent gang members were killed and there is a brief video on the news of a woman riding the top of a speeding car, jumping off and doing a backflip while dual wielding pistols shooting at someone in a house. The official police announcement states they will crack down on this blatant violence soon.

All reports of them come from minor news outlets and other gangs. Strangely the police make no mention of them even blaming other gangs where they are involved in all other reports. All reports of them also mention ridiculous reflexes that look super human

>Threat potential moderate

#NEW INFORMATION Strange life form in the Argentinian Desert. - Your’s and Harvey’s hunt caught yourself one alive and a scar for good measure. However the nest remains and for the safety of the local population it must be removed.

Harris’s and Yisabeth’s encounters with the creature proves their extreme danger.

>Threat potential High

#Kidnapping cult in Xian. - Several more reports were found of similar actions occurring all over Asia. They are spaced out enough and with different enough details that someone not looking wouldn't notice. This isn't isolated to just one city and clearly planned.

There are several dozen reports of missing individuals in Xian all claiming they were kidnapped by a martial arts club. Weeks later they show up committing low level crimes and if captured appear to have no recollection of their life before the cult they refuse to speak of.

>>
#Cattle Mutilations in Brazil.

#Russian preppers - A few reports of villages being raided by what are being called Russian preppers. They are reportedly armed with Old Soviet armaments however their body armor appears to be entirely different. Reports of resistors say that they wear light jumpsuits that appear to be entirely bullet proof. When the Russian government appears to bring order the preppers have already left.
>Threat potential light - serious

#Cannibalistic Murders in India - Several individuals have been found apparently worshiping the murderers as they consume others.

#NEW INFORMATION Beasts in the forests of Germany - A forest wide ban has been made by the police after the discovery of the body of a missing hunter. Several of the quills pierced through the man's torso and one through their head. There seems to be discussion on getting a party together to hunt and kill this beast.

Several hunters are reporting what they call “Giant porcupines” in the forests of Germany. Most are being called sensationalist but two separate reports say otherwise. A man in the hospital with a quill as long as an arm through their leg and a picture of a man holding several quills up in a local tabloid.

#Missing cases in Britain - There has been a high uptick of missing cases in Britain from coastal towns. >Harris for department investigation if Yisabeth is training with us, OR Harris and Yisabeth investigating the Bat Boy case if Yisabeth isn't able to train with us. Take light field kits to reduce suspicion in the locals.

We could use the paperwork storage to get all the shit moved out of our office, and we don't have a ton of stuff going on quite yet. Elias should be more than capable of coming up with an efficient means of receiving, sorting, storing, updating, divesting, and disposing of the reams of paper we'll be producing. Harvey can give him a hand moving everything down there and getting it set up.

Beaumont should be plenty capable of finding us some quality personnel, since we're going to be laid up recovering. Key focus should be with getting more ex-military people to fill in for security roles on missions. Another scientist would help too, to fill in gaps for Florence. Cryptanalysts to pick out patterns in cases will help, as well as picking up on things that paper-pushers might have missed Code-breaking into other agencies and alien tech might also be on the table in the future.

As for the investigations, if Yisabeth is able to train with us, we should have Harris track down more information on the department. I don't trust sending him out alone for the stuff we have on the heap. If both him and Yisabeth are working together though, we should get the bat boy one dealt with. It sounds like an isolated creature, and it may be relevant to the L-001s. If they are both unnatural phenomena, Florence should be able to pick out the synthetic genomes and find something to tie things up for the council. Gotta justify them budget increases.

Midweek you leave your desk a bit earlier than you normally do for lunch and head over to the memos department where you find Milo feet up on his desk with one of your department's case files over his sleeping face. If you do convince him to join your unit his work ethic better shape up. You nudge his shoulder lightly and he wakes with a start with the case file falling to the ground.

“AH, Oh hi Clarissa it's you. Um do you need this back?” he picks up the recently fallen folder off the floor and goes to hand it to you.

“No I don't think that will be necessary although I'm sure Elias would appreciate you putting that back in the file cabinet you found it in. Anyways I want to discuss a proposition you brought up a few weeks back. Did you bring lunch today? I know a good sub shop near by you could join me at.”

“I never bring lunch and I would love hear you out”

You go have a pleasant lunch with Milo hashing out the details of a possible position and pay rate he would have at your department. He seems exceedingly interested and has read a bit more reports of yours than you think you should have let him. He isn't going to come cheap however despite working in memos he is making pretty good money as the head of a department. But you talk him down to something more reasonable. It appears his desperation for anything more interesting is winning him over more than the cash. By the end of a good meatball sub you have a proper job offer in order and Milo is beaming with excitement.

Later that day you contact your superiors to get the department transfer properly in order.

>Can hire Milo for 60k 20k maintenance
Milo is a hero character similar to Clasrissa. Milo is able to do 2 actions a turn but is only able to roll 2d100 for each action. If Milo is not given an action he will take one of his own accord in what he believes would help the organization.

Harris was excited to get his teeth back into this mystery and find out more about the Kiryu-Kai or what event brought us into existence especially more so that we have run into our first creature we can't exactly call terrestrial.

Harris comes back with a report about some information on Kiryu-Kai gained by questioning some members around the office using his usual tactics.

It seems little here knows much about them beyond they were a Japanese organization dedicated to researching and combating potential extraterrestrial threats. However it seems the base in Japan is still operational if being decommissioned and many of the individuals in it being transferred to normal military work. It may be worth trying to poach some members or send Harris to japan to investigate while it's still transitioning to fully decommissioned. It has been a few months though so your not sure how much really is left though.

#Investigate a case Bat Boy
Harvey 56
Yisabeth 81

Bat boy huh, seems like a hoax but Elias was insistent that we check it out. After all, the last case he pushed us to investigate managed to be a massive hit. While giving you the case file he kept babbling on about how he read all about a case just like this in one of his tabloids and that their lineage could be traced back to the earliest American settlements. You're doubtful but some of the photos in the file have you convinced there is at least something out there.

You send both Harvey and Yisabeth out on assignment with a warning to temper their expectations. You feel that there might not be much there.

When they stumbled back into your office they looked like they walked backwards into hell and only found their way out on a miracle.
“Never send me back to that god forsaken town ever again, I will quit before going back” Yisabeth tells you while looking you dead in the eyes

“NUT JOBS all of them I don't mean to winge but ill take aliens any day fuck me dead that was awful.” Harvey groans.

“What happened where's your report!”

“No report this time only a couple of psycho yanks with fake pointy ears livin in caves called themselves the cult of bat boy. DRINKING each other's BLOOD from CRAZY STRAWS. THEY HAD 100S OF CUTTINGS OF THIS NONSENSE TABLOID GOIN ONN ABOUT SOME BAT BOY DATING JENIFIER FUCKING LAWRENCE AND MEETIN ELVIS. I swear if I didn't nab a real cryptid myself I would have just assumed that all aliens were just CRAZY AMERICANS.”

“They gave us the run around for 5 days coming up with crazier stories before luring us into a cave to try and get us to investigate dog shit and drink our blood and initiate us into their cult.” Yisbeth chimed in

It took them 20 minutes to calm down enough to give you close enough to a verbal report, no one died or got hurt and the cult is more weird than dangerous. You make a note to chew Elias out, he best keep his reading to the real reports than the tabloids.

> Case Bat Boy completed.

“I should warn you I don't really deal with live subjects in most cases and I’m terrified of that thing” Florence tells you while looking at your most recent catch. “I used to struggle keeping lab rats back in undergrad, and this thing won't just nip my finger if I mess up.”

“I'm sure we can arrange Harvey to help you wrangle it when he comes back from his assignment. For now you should focus on keeping it alive by figuring what it eats and how long you can knock it out. I think we would both agree it waking up while we are trying to take samples would be a bad thing.”

“I guess that's a good place as any to- AHHH”

A loud cricket noise suddenly came from L-001 as it slams itself against its cage and the two of you jump back instinctively

“Well just do what you can, I'll try and hire you some help soon.”

“Ah ok….” she gives you a look of a woman who is regretting her life choices

Despite the fuss she made at the beginning of the week she managed to get L-001 to eat and it even appears to be healing from the injuries you gave it while trapping it. And in some creative thinking on her part she managed to make an airtight seal around the cage so that she could pump in some inert gasses to limit the amount of oxygen in the cage which appears to knock the creature out for around 2 hours allowing her to take some living tissue samples for study. She said she got the idea from when she used to euthanize mice.

In the report Florence gave you, she found it was an obligate carnivore and the dissections of the additional bodies confirm this as it appears to have no way to digest plant matter. While most bugs are able to absorb oxygen by spiracles, small holes on the body of the bug, L-001 at first glance is far too large to support this system. However with examinations on its body, it appears that the bugs blood normally hemolymph has been replaced by what appears to be a hyper efficient version of hemoglobin that is able to work in concert with the spiracles by methods currently unknown. This by some feat of science also serves the same purpose as hemolymph. The current assumption is that this was engineered for this purpose as the quaternary structure is entirely different allowing significantly more oxygen molecules to bind to the engineered hemoglobin.

At the end of the report she states that a lab technician and an actual lab would be extremely helpful so she no longer has to do the busy work herself and doesn’t have to borrow others labs.

Current investigations

#Crop Circles in Cuba.

>Threat potential unknown

#Dominating gang in Atlanta.

#Strange life form in the Argentinian Desert. - Your’s and Harvey’s hunt caught yourself one alive and a scar for good measure. However the nest remains and for the safety of the local population it must be removed.

Harris’s and Yisabeth’s encounters with the creature proves their extreme danger.

#NEW INFORMATION Russian preppers - Some reports from journalists show these preppers which are called Red Dawn in the article, making trades with the Russian military. Shortly after these articles the journalists responsible went missing.

A few reports of villages being raided by what are being called Russian preppers.

If you need any help with editing, spellchecking, or whatever, I’m willing to throw my hat into the ring even if it means that I’d have to forego voting. A lot of your writing habits wouldn’t be caught by running a spell check, namely sentence and conversation structure. I love the accents though, even if Harris’s is tough to read. I think it really fleshes out his character.

The d6 because someone failed their mission roll and that's how I determine wounds.
anything lower then a 50 is a fail but the degree determines how bad. 40-50 is 1d6 3-6 light wound 1-2 moderate. 30-40 is 5-6 light wound 3-4 moderate 1-2 heavy. 20-30 5-6 moderate 1-4 heavy. 10-20 3-6 heavy1-2 death. and finally 2-10 5-6 heavy 1-4 death. rolling a 1 meaning death.

Milo, excited to join the team, starts off the week by gifting everyone champagne. Popping the first bottle himself in your office exploding it all over a stack of paperwork on Elias’s desk and has to deal with both you and Elias chewing him out for the next 20 minutes.

#Investigate the Kiryu-Kai in Japan.96 (Clarissa)

After some deliberation you decided that if anyone was going to be able to see the Kiryu-Kai base and find you who you wanted to hire it was you. With any luck you will also find some information that will help with the council meeting.

During the flight over you give the report Harris gave you a second read. The main note is there is a JSDF warrant officer that used to work on the project on a base near Tokyo, a Mukai Kei. You arranged a meeting with him through UN channels. If convinced he is probably your best bet to finding the base and getting a look around.

Once off the plane you follow the directions in the report taking a rental car out to a JSDF base a few miles outside of Tokyo. At the checkpoint flashing your UN badge was luckily enough to get in, you weren't sure what you would do if that didn't work. Parking in front of the offices you remember what Harris told you. “Look important and get them to drink.” sighing you wonder if you should take any of his advice into account, well it works for him.

Walking in you ask for a Mukai Kei and get led up to an office smaller than yours, just enough room for a desk and two chairs. You shake his hand and introduce yourself.

“I read about your organization, so you're here about the Kiryu-Kai then? I don't see why else you would talk to a recently demoted JSDF officer.”

“Yes, the information we were given about our predecessors was unfortunately lacking, I was hoping you could inform me.”

“Feh, replacement more like. It’s ridiculous they canned us and didn't even push for one of us to head this UNAU”

“Well we are looking for agents, if you’re interested in moving away from this” you gesture to the small office
“I could offer you a job, that is if you're up to it.

He drums his fingers on the desk “And all you want is information?”

“Well that, perhaps a tour of where the Kiyru-Kai was based and a recommendation of any old members.”

He looks at you for a bit seeming to size you up before surprise hops to his eyes. “Wait, you don't have permission for any of this do you, otherwise why would you even bother with me?”

“Well our mission statement was to investigate anything anomalous and this all did seem very, well anomalous” you say with a smile.

“Heh, alright so they somehow picked someone not in the pocket of the politicians. Yeah I'll show you around. He gets up from his desk.

“Come with me I should still be able to access it.”

Through the rest of the day you get a thorough tour of the Kiryu-Kai base and frankly you are jealous, there was clearly a lot more money invested into this then your UNAU ever had. An underground base with a laboratory, housing, even its own hanger!

You discover from Mukai, that the Kiru-Kai was developed in the early 1994 due to unavoidable claims in Japan of “oni” and was an extension of the JSDF with its own budget. After a rare few encounters with creatures like yours they brought their findings to the UN only to get a severe backlash from a US organization to shut down. Ever since they have been trying to delay the shutdown and push for the founding of a UN initiative which became the UNAU. There are a number of research files which could be helpful but they are classified beyond Mukai’s ability to access.

Alongside this Mukai also gives you the names and information on several soldiers and a few scientists that he would personally vouch for.

Mukai himself was initially trained in the JSDF and greatly enjoyed working for the Kiyru-Kai. He headed their anti Oni Teams and was in both of the two encounters that they had with anomalous creatures. They battled several of what he called a giant wolf like a “Fenrir” so not really the oni they were looking for, and the scientists found it interesting as wolves went extinct in japan in the early 1900’s. He thinks they wiped them out fully in 1996 though.

> Gained access to multiple potential employee files.

Since you’re paying Milo so much you might as well make him worth his money and see what this kid can do. He arrives at your office on time in a move that was uncharacteristic of him and you give him his assignments.

“For your first week I have two assignments for you. As you can tell by this closet of an office and our newly acquired dungeon which we have set Florence up in we are running out of space for our operation at an alarming rate, I want you to look into acquiring us an offsite base which will keep eyes off of the more… questionable work we will be doing in the future. Try and get us something we can reasonably expand from and safe from most “abnormal” attacks you can think of.”

Milo looks lost in thought for a second before piping up “Why not just apply to the council to get your own bunker.”

“Our own bunker, that could work if we can convince them.”

“Well I can't exactly speak to them for you, but I can prepare a proposal for you can pull some strings in the right places to give you a better chance.”

You give him a cynical look.
“Pull some strings?”

“Well if a hypothetical politician hearing of this ‘UNAU’ is worried about his state and wants them located in his state for nearby investigation and protection after they get outside information that what is just a rumor is just real… well they may just subsidies such a thing and put in a request to the UN.”

“Are you allowed to do that”

He gives you a grin. “Oh I’m not doing anything certainly not sharing reports with a specific concerned individual with plenty of money and pull”

“… fine go ahead. Well you said you could fit more on your plate, can you also look into who is on the council and their connections. I can't do much with the information but I’m sure you will have ideas.”

“Of course!”

At the end of the week Milo has prepared a... PowerPoint? You've never used it before but Milo assures you it is the latest in presenting information in meetings. Alongside with a document of the best points to use to convince the council of giving you a base and assurances that information went to the right people, however any mentions of the base location being in Georgia should be avoided.

He also lets you know he got information on three of the five council members, apparently gained through his political connections.

Member 1 - Artem Aleksandrov 37- The Russian representative. Worked for the KGB for many years and his father was in the Xenoughts program. All sources say he is exceptionally doubtful of the anomalous activities and seems to disbelieve the Icelandic incident despite having the information on it. He publicly stated his father's work with the Xenoughts was a waste of time. Is very concerned about the prepper group in Russia but knows little about it.
-Russia’s funding 70,000k

Member 2 - Wade Byrd - The American representative. Worked as a diplomat most of his life until being assigned to work at the UN. Has deep family connections and is well known in the circles Milo interacts in. Personally doubts the whole deal and thinks it's a joke but is very interested in the results of L-001 but doubts all the claims of problems in America calling it “fear mongering”.
-America’s Funding 60,000K

Member 3 - Meshi Levitt - The Israeli representative. Worked in the IDF as an officer for most of her career but little else is known, she isn't really a politician. When multiple countries were pushing to have the UNAU created however Israel was one of the primary influences and were quick to support the project and sent a representative. What little information there is on her motives are mostly around protecting Israel.

#Continue to Investigate why your department was ccreated.88 + 5 Detective (93)
Harris. We're getting closer to the truth.

Harris leaps off to get to work to uncover more of the mystery of why you were made. At least you can count on him to enjoy his work.

When he finally gets back to you at the end of the week he has a surprising large binder. He stares a bit vacant, the area around his eyes dark, you think this is the first time you've seen him exhausted. He slaps it down. “So I think I got to the bottom of it all, and to my great disappointment it was not some dangerous event, but it was simply bureaucracy. Read through the report for the details. I am going to take a nap.”

“Thank you Harris, I…” You watch as Harris walks over to the couch recently added to your office now that less paper work takes up the room and passes out on it. You sigh and begin looking through the reports.

After an hour reading it all you get a good picture of what happened. Back in the late 1950’s the Xenoughts were created after the “Iceland” incident where a crashed UFO was investigated by both the United States and the USSR. After it was clear they could not take it they used a nuclear strike leaving only the shell of the UFO as remains. Nothing concrete appeared to come from the Xenoughts although some prototype technologies were developed from the UFO remains, then in the mid 70’s they were disbanded. After this things were quiet until the early 90’s where reports of strange creatures and events started to grow in the world. The first response to this was the Kiru-Kai developed in 1994 to counter this in Japan; over the next two years they gathered evidence to present it to the UN. After presenting this evidence they were shut down by an unknown branch of the United States.

In the 1990's numerous pressures emerged first from increased abnormal activity around the world, then the fall of the soviet union causing numerous leaks about the Xenoughts to get out and information from the Iceland incident. Then pressures from Japan from the Kiru-kai all worked together to cause enough concerned members of the UN to push for the creation of the UNAU. Finally in 1997 January 1st UNAU was created and you were chosen to lead it.

Well at least you have a history now, it seems like it would be worth getting the research files from Kiru-Kai and Xenoughts to see if there is anything that can help.

When the storm passed no further transmissions came from them. A team is being sent to investigate soon but you could take their place.
- A science team in the North Pole had gone missing for over a week when a survivor was found by a boat looking for them. The crew of the boat claim this is temporary insanity caused by a white-out they get similar claims all the time

#NEW INFORMATION Missing cases in Britain - An entire coastal town’s population has gone missing. From reports one day it was bustling and full of people, the next day empty. Investigators have yet to turn up anything but Elias and Harris think it's related.
- There has been a high uptick of missing cases in Britain from coastal towns. Alongside this there have been reports of fish eyed humans and bipedal scaled creatures coming out of the water. Apparently myths about these creatures have been around since the 30’s but only recently have they become popular.

# Man Eating Rats in New York. - Tabloids are going berserk over several bodies found dead in the New York Subways. All homeless and some police records it seems these bodies appear often, what separates them however is that there are no stab or gun wounds. Their bodies look as though they were feasted upon, and the rats that were at every crime would confirm this.

Upon receiving their mission Harvey jokes that with any luck this is another bat boy and we don't have anything to worry about while Elias squeaks out a sorry.

At the end of the week they return, Yisabeth is walking like she is in pain but at a glance it doesn't seem like anything too bad.

“Yisabeth are you ok?”

She grimaces “Yes nothing too bad just a large cut along my waist. We can confirm the creatures are there.”

“Hah we can for sure, for being a 8 foot tall monstrosity one damn near sneaked up on us. Luckily they don't seem to aim well. I was following a trail that was made by something too large to be natural when we came upon it eating a bush looking right at us. Here ” Harvey pulls out a picture from the middle of the report file. Looking at it, it looks to be almost like a dead 8 foot tall porcupine but clearly wrong in a lot of ways. Elongated legs, a sharp inward turned head, and a long tail. Ok perhaps not a porcupine.

Yisabeth speaks up. “Once it noticed us it arched its back in our direction and fired quills from it at a very surprising speed. The first one got me here” she motioned a slice across her waist.

“We fired back, and after a few shots and some dodged quills it stopped moving. It seems to have no defense against small arms other than its size. Unfortunately due to its size we were unable to bring it home and had to leave the body, we did bring some samples of flesh and quills though.”

Harvey pipes up again “Before this we talked with the locals and they confirmed multiple sightings injuries and deaths, there is going to be a group hunt to kill as many as they can find in 2 weeks. Which could be bad.”

Reading through the report you have multiple images of the creature, a general area of where they live and public perception of them.

> Living L-001

Florence was mollified by your promises and understands that there is a limited budget. But stresses you keep it because for her it's like “trying to fly a plane by asking your neighbor to move the control stick.” you laugh at the pilot comparison.

When Florence came back to give her report for what she was up to that week she was practically beaming.

‘’I think I almost have this cracked, I’ve got a few theories but nothing confirmed yet”

Playing into her enthusiasm you lean in

“So, tell me more, I'm on the edge of my seat?”

“Well I was thinking about all of the genetic similarities between L-001 and other known species of animals and got the idea to culture some of the tissue we pulled from the living specimen. Basically getting them to grow separately from the living animal so that I don't have to go back and rip into its carapace every time I need a genetic sample. And while analyzing the living cells I lysed a few and found that it has a rather large number of chromosomes for any animal similar from the source ones I listed in my previous report. So I decided to isolate a few of the chromosomes and genetically test them separate and found that each chromosome contained 100% of similar DNA to a singular insect. Instead of my previous assumption that it was just a differently evolved species i think it's actually engineered through a method similar to Hybridoma cell production.”

“Hybridoma cells? I don't really know what those are”

She looks around trying to grasp for words or a least simplify many words into a few concise sentences.

“Well it's like, humm, when we first started Culturing animal tissue back in the 70s we found out rather quickly that despite the best nutrient soup you stick them in they will die off eventually. This is just because of the way normal cells grow they have a limit to how many times they can divide. Meanwhile cancer cells don't have that issue as long as there is food they will divide and grow in attempts to get the best of both worlds they tried to mix them together.”
“How exactly is this relevant?”

“Just hear me out, they weakened the cell walls of cancer and normal cells and then centrifuged them together until they popped into each other meshing the DNA of both cells into one hybrid cell containing two whole sets of chromosomes.”
>>
>>4474407
“Do you think that L-001 is somehow a living creature derived through a similar process?”

“Maybe, Hybridoma cell production has very limited applications since getting the cells to merge in a way which doesn’t result in it dying off immediately is difficult on its own and for it to differentiate into different types of tissue is unheard of. That's not even considering the fact that this hybridoma was able to create a whole functioning insect which is capable of complex biological structure. If this technique was the one implemented I feel like our modern biological tools are more like sticks while they have IBM computers.”

“You have certainly given me a lot to think over that's for sure, thanks so much for your work can’t wait till you get the chance to tests this theory out more”

As she leaves your office you feel a great sense of foreboding, let's hope that no such gap exists in firepower, you haven't met something you couldn't shoot dead and you're not super happy at the idea of having the equivalent of sticks against whomever might be behind L-001.

> L-001 research finished

L-001 is an obligate carnivore that appears to consist of genetic material from many earth creatures. It is a swarm species similar to ants or bees able to communicate with others of its species through audio made by shaking its at a high rate carapace. From what we know their hive consists of only drones and a queen however we will need to capture a queen to confirm this. The drones are fast able to reach up to 56 kilometers per hour and their claws are able to easily pierce most conventional armor. After testing, steel chainmail and stab vests are capable of blocking their attacks. They need to eat roughly 1700 calories a day to maintain body mass and only consume raw meat avoiding anything cooked, they do not seem to care what animal the meat comes from.

You show up to the meeting room an hour early, wanting to make sure this Power Point goes off without a hitch. Milo showed you how to use it and gave you a floppy disk, but you don't want any last minute mistakes. You ended up having to wait for 15 minutes for some other meeting to finish up and scoot in past the leaving crowd.

You put the floppy into the computer, pull out the files and start up the powerpoint. It took you a good 10 minutes even with Milo's demonstration only 2 hours ago. You feel pretty good about yourself once it pops up on the computer screen. Your years of military service never prepared you for presenting to a council of people.

You look at the empty whiteboard and sigh, now the projector. 20 minutes later you finally have the first slide up and you found a neat little clicker thing that lets you transfer slides without messing with the computer.

Now, you impatiently wait the rest of the time for the council to show up. You’re asking a lot of them this time around and you’re hoping that it goes well. Eventually they slowly enter and this time you're able to put a name to most of the faces. First is Nathaniel Brooks, head of the Investigations Department and technically your boss, then in comes Meshi Levitt, Artem Aleksandrov, Wade Byrd, and finally the man you know nothing about a bit later than the rest. They share their usual pleasantries before you get right to business. Giving them each a prepared folder.

We were able to capture one alive and have experimented on it significantly, revealing that beyond all doubt it is an engineered creature. Using a significantly more advanced version of hybridoma, L-001 is a product of the fusion of several earth native bugs. A full profile of the creature is on Page 12 in your folders.”

You see at least one shocked face in the group although the rest seem skeptical. Flipping to the next slide you continue.

“Whatever created this creature is on a technological level beyond our current understanding. Additionally, this creature is dangerous, able to run beyond 56 kilometers per hour and cut through most material. They are also clearly hunting humans as the number of missing people in the area is growing rapidly.”

You flip to another slide with an image of L-002.

“We have encountered another creature that we believe is of similar make. L-002 appears to be an amalgamation of mammals favoring porcupines. In addition to its 8 foot stature it is able to launch its quills as a weapon and has killed several hunters in Germany. We believe these to be from the same creator as L-001.”
You give them all some time to discuss amongst themselves before jumping into what milo prepared.

The next slide is a graph of your operational costs compared to what you would “need” to be able to destroy these creatures.

“Given the harmfulness of these creatures I would recommend that the UN develops the UNAU beyond investigation so that we may work to stamp out and research these creatures where we find them, in addition to discovering more about their creators. To do this we would need a base separate from this building where we can build our own holding cells and research facilities, as well as the funds to recruit a squad capable of rooting out these creatures.”

You leave the presentation on the last slide and wait for them to come with a response. They all speak together and look through the various documents you presented them with, and eventually Nathanial speaks up.
“So there is a live one of these L-001 things in a holding cage? Can you take us to it?”
A bit impromptu, but you aren't going to say no. “Of course, sir.”

You lead them out of the conference room and into the area of the basement where you are keeping the creature. Luckily, Florence isn't around at the moment so you don't need to explain anything. As you approach L-001 begins its cicada sound again and haunches up threateningly towards the group. You’re happy that it’s putting on a good show.
“Here it is.”

The room goes silent from their chatter as they look at it from a distance, seemingly afraid it would burst out of its cage.

“You can get closer if you wish, we made sure the cage can contain it.”
You hear a brief whisper of “God help us,” although you're not sure from who. The man you don't know about gets closer and kneels down to look it in the eyes, you assume he's the japanese representative. L-001 for its part attempts to lash out at him, only to get stopped by the cage, its long sharp claws on showcase for everyone.

“Well, you have convinced me it's not a dog in a costume. Good work Clarissa, we were right to have picked you to lead this.”
“Thank you sir.”
He walks back to the group and joins their hushed whispers. Eventually Nathaniel speaks up.

“I think we are done here, we appreciate your hard work. Clarissa, you are dismissed. The rest of us will be returning to the meeting room.”

Well, cryptic as usual. You hope the face to face with the creature scared a few of them into giving you more funding. You desperately need it.

They take their time getting back to you, two days later you get a call to a meeting in a different room. Once you enter the meeting room you discover why. There are now 8 people here rather than the 5 from before, although the five familiar faces are here.
Nathaniel starts as soon as you sit down. “Good evening Clarissa, we have called you here as the scope of your organization has changed. With this new evidence you have presented us along with our other means of information gathering we have confirmed that these anomalous creatures are a defined threat to our species and we need to discover how much of a threat and where they came from. Your new objective will be to exterminate all anomalous creatures, hide the evidence from the local population, and research the creatures to try to find how they are made and by who. You are granted permission to have an offsite base, increased funding and access to the UN peacekeeping equipment. We wish you the best of luck and will be watching your organization's future endeavors closely.”

The rest of the meeting was confirming details accepting your new responsibility and questions from the new council members, however it all went by in a flash from the excitement of getting everything you asked for and more.

>monthly budget 400k gained
>permission to have offsite base gained

>UN peacekeeping equipment access gained.

>New goals/exterminate/hide/research

Made it in before we fell off the board. The vote will happen at the beginning of the next thread. there will be a pause as I gather some information together. see you all then!

Fuck yeah, glad we went for the higher-risk investigations so far. It was a few close calls getting a live L-001 and the L-002 information, but those gambles paid off big time. Did we have any timeframe on when the next thread will be?

Only a matter of time before we need to erect a memorial wall.
>>
>>4482861
Your lucky out of the number of death rolls there were you had about a 65% chance of at least 1 death.

>>4484005
Only question is where to put it.
>>
>>4484005
You know if we ever get a memorial wall it might be a good hidingspot for our illegal weapons and other things we want to keep secret, no one would think to look inside it
