It is the day of the Chalice Ceremony and you've prepared in a thousand ways that didn't matter. No you were never meant to become the patriach of the:
>Fang clan. A clan with one of the few tin mines within Alfheimer resulting in a powerful military force due to the massive amounts of bronze that your clan owns. Maybe it was due to the greed and desire of your tin that your clan was betrayed (+10 in all army rolls, +larger army)
>Shell clan. A clan surrounded by mountains on two sides and who have long focused on defense through their two nigh-unbreakable forts. Unfortunately for all the clans military defensiveness, it could not protect them from a traitors blade in the back. (+2 forts, +10 in defensive army rolls)
>Claw clan. A clan not notable for much at all. This has however ensured that the leaders in the clan have worked all the harder to keep the clans independence. It seems that even with all the foresight your father is known for, he could not predict the treachery. (You gain +1 administrative, +1 diplomacy ranks)
>write in: (name of clan should be a noun and should mention what makes the clan special which QM will make into two bonuses for the clan)

However with your father and elder brother dead by the traitorous Wheat clan, you've been left with little choice but to assume the role of patriach of the clan. Whilst your previous training had left you ill-prepared for rulership, it has helped you prepare otherwise. Before you had this unwanted role pushed upon you, you trained to become a
>a great warrior that will crush the enemies of the clan through skill of arms and tactics (You gain +1 military ranks and +10 in personal combat rolls)
>a skilled diplomat that will sway both your clans enemies and allies (You gain +1 diplomacy ranks and +10 in formal diplomatic settings)
>a steward that would help your elder brother administer the clan (You gain +1 administrative ranks and +10 wealth)
>a great gambler and winner at dice. Okay less "trained" and more played but surely your constant gambling is useful somehow? (You crit succeed on both 99 and 100 instead of just 100)
>write in

Also what is your name?
>Sixten
>Orvar
>Torsten
>write in (male name, its fine if name is not Norse styled as QM will bs about your mother being a foreigner or something but Norse names are preferred)

First thread will probably be mostly chargen defining the MC personality/stats and the clan details. Dice will be d100 and mechanics/stats will be heavily inspired by ck2 and eu4.

Havn't QMed since this shit was still on /tg/ so if I'm doing anything wrong please tell me.

You've always had a way with words and the nuances of conversation even as a child. Your father Halvr had always proclaimed or rather bragged to anyone that would listen that you Orvar Halvrson was blessed by Bragi the god of words and poets. You had trained this talent over time and now you are a master of persuasive rhetoric and the nuances of diplomacy.
(trait earned: charismatic negotiator)

You're brought out of your thoughts as the Chalice Ceremony begins as the clan godi bring forth the chalice. Chalice Ceremonies are meant to be a lavish affair however considering the fact that your clan is in the middle of a war, the Chalice Ceremony that greets you is a small and humble affair featuring only your direct followers and the clan godi.

“Now then, we shall commence the Chalice Ceremony,” the man intoned. “I am Nicholas, and as godi, I shall supervise these proceedings. This day is particularly auspicious...”

The man blathers on and on but you know the main gist of things just like everyone else within Alfheimer whether they be lowest slave or highest patriach.
Should two individuals drink from this chalice than they are bound by the very gods in loyalty and fellowship. When you consider the many gods of valhalla who guarantee the vow of the chalice, you:
>cannot help but silenty mock the believers who believe this rubbish. What truly binds the Chalice Ceremony is no more and no less than the threat of
losing all future trust from others by breaking the vows. Nicholas frowns seeing your lack of attention. (trait: cynic, +10 wealth, -relations with Nicholas)
>cannot help but make the sacred signs of the divine knowing that their sight must be here for all Chalice Ceremonies are under the auspices of the gods. Nicholas
grants you a nod mid-speech for he knows from your constant donations that you are a true follower of the divine.

You've never bought into the whole valhalla nonsense that your godi Nicholas preaches, as far as you could tell, it was nothing more nothing less than an excuse to force you to pay him donations. No you've never wasted a single gold coin on donations and you doubt you will waste much gold on the "divine" in the future too outside what meagar amounts are enough to keep appearances.

Of course Nicholas has never been particularly happy by your refusal to "help" the divine in matters of gold however you've always managed to charm and flatter the old fool enough that your relationship isn't outright hostile.
relationship with Nicholas: strained
relationships levels are: nemesis>hostile>strained>neutral>friendly>loyal>absolute trust

As Nicholas's long ass speech continues you note that he is quick to mention your many flaws such as
>how quick to anger you are (trait: wroth)
>how you are quick to resent and long for what others have (trait: envy)
>how you bed many women without care whether they be slave or noble (trait: lust)
yet there is no mention of your virtues that almost anyone in the clan knows of such as your
>bravery and courage (trait: brave)
>your endless effort in all matters (trait: diligent)
>your fair treatment of all without care of their ranks or positions (trait: just)

I think 3 major traits to define our MC is enough and anything further personality wise should be developed by you dudes choices.

>lustful
>diligent

"...sex is the consolation you have when you can't have love... in love the other is of importance but in lust the only importance is ones own self.. blah blah" Nicholas speech continues to condemn with as many words as needed your many adventures with the countless flowers of the can. You do your best to tune him out as you think back to last nights "conquest" with your mother's new handmaiden. Normally you'd need use of your sweet words or sweeter trinkets but that one didn't so much as flirt before taking you to bed. You'd shared with her a nights dream, hopefully the ugly sword of reality doesn't put a damper on things.
trait earned: lustful

Even after your remembrance the endless speech of your godi about his gods and their useless blessings continue. What worth is there in blessings from so called gods when your zealous father surely had them too and yet he died all the same. No rather than rely on the fickle gods that may or may not exist you've always chosen to rely on yourself. No matter the matter, you've always given it your 100%. Whether it to charm another bed warmer or to charm a foreign diplomat, you've spent hours upon hours in front of the mirror perfectly adjusting your appearances an practicing glib tongue.

"...And now, on this most wondrous day, I present Orvar Halvrson the son of Halvr who with the grace and witness of the gods shall drink of the chalice and formally become patriach of the Fang Clan." intones Nicholas. You drink from the ornate chalice and feel the warm thrum of the wine enter you. As tradition dictates, you are now bound as patriach to the clan and the clan to you. This was the easy part as you must now share wine and chalice with your father's or rather now your followers however you know that the rules state that the order in which your vassals share chalice with you represent their standings with you.
Whilst all your followers are loyal to the clan, the one who came up first and the one who had always been loyal to you alone was your childhood friend the Einherjar:

>Nanna "The Brave" who possesses the rune of strength Megingjoro which grants her superhuman strength making her in her own words "a one woman army". If you were to define your friend with a single word, it would be her arrogance and overconfidence. You wish she would be less reckless as she may die one day. (battles and warfare are easier with her but beware the danger to her life)

>Frea "The thousand faces" who possesses the rune of Alpiofr which allows her to freely change her facial features making her the perfect spy and assassin. Whilst she can play any role required of her whilst "on the job", her true character which only you know is one of silent loyalty and dedication to you. You wonder why shes so dedicated to you and what you have done to earn her loyalty. (Frea loyalty cannot be dropped no matter what and will follow all orders no matter how suicidal the orders are)

>Eidunn who possesses the weak rune of Gullinbursti which somewhat increases the strength of all nearby allied animals making your army chariot divisions led by her to be slighty stronger. Whilst she has yet to make much of a Name for herself, she still tries her best to earn a Name but unfortunately due to her clumsy nature, she fails more often than not in most matters. As her childhood friend you've often had to pick up the slack and cover for her many mishaps (Randomly gain +1 adm, dip or mil but your einherjar sucks ass)

After this choice I'll post the MC character sheet.

As Nicholas calls upon your Einharjar to come forth you decide to put on the charms.

“Her form, svelte and straight as a cypress tree, her hair like a piece of morning, its lovely as usual to see your beauty Frea” you praise and flatter your friend hoping for at least a blush.

“…” Frea greets your flattery with silence. Now over the years you’ve known Frea, you’ve learnt to interpret her many types of silence and you’re sure that her current silence is one of boredom.

Now as your clan’s diplomat, you’ve met and discussed various matters from people of a variety of cultures and religions. Depending on who you ask and what stupid belief they have the supernatural abilities of Einharjar come from different sources. Your people seem to think Einharjar are a gift from Valhalla to prepare for the end of days, the crazy sun worshippers of the south seem to think that “Sol-Blessed” are created from long term exposure to sunlight whilst the rock carvers in the mountains seem to believe that “Daughters” are from their goddess Nerthus doing some kind of freaky womb joining magic. You however prefer facts and the facts are that Einharjar are women who are born with supernatural powers. Einharjar are rare and most small clans like yours don’t even have one.

Why did you just have a massive discourse on Einharjar? Because outside their supernatural powers, Einharjar are supposedly as normal as any other woman which means your charms should make conquest a possibility if not an eventuality. Yet for all the years you’ve known Frea, she has yet to fall for your charms even once, oh sure she’d accept it if you ordered her to bed you but you’d never force her. This isn’t even mentioning the fact that you’re 99% sure she would be a dead fish in bed.

“Ahem, moving on Frea of “The Thousand Faces”, blessed Einharjar of clan Fang shall now exchange the chalice with Orvar Halvrson, patriarch of the Fang clan. And through the authority of this Chalice, let their vows stay eternal as forever after shall Frea be the follower of Orvar.” Nicholas solemnly chants as you and Frea both drink from the Chalice finishing the ceremony.

The rest of the Chalice ceremony continues without issues as the rest of your followers follow up one by one in order of: seniority, honor, wealth and a hundred other factors which those with lesser understandings in formal diplomacy would rarely understand. A patriarch with less tact and understanding of diplomacy would likely commit a faux pas however your specialisation in such matters makes it easy. You easily ensure to call your followers in the correct order such that no offense is given.
was meant to be roll here but than I realized the DC was so low it was't worth bothering with

With the chalice ceremony complete and the war with the traitorous wheat clan almost of definite possibility, you gather your council of most respected and powerful followers to discuss what should be done. Your clan the Fang clan has always been allied with the Wheat clan with no changes to this alliance in several generations. You’re no steward so you don’t understand the specifics but you know that the Wheat clan is one of the main breadbaskets of Alfheimer responsible for food whilst your clan has one of the main tin mines which are necessary to make bronze. Your alliance was built on your trade of tin for their food which had over time developed from trade agreements into friendship and then into alliance. Their sudden betrayal and murder of your father and elder brother when they had travelled there for diplomacy therefore makes absolutely zero sense to you or anyone else in the clan.

Your army commander Thorin rants of military vengeance which can be summarised as “kill all, burn all, loot all”. Of how justice is with your actions no matter how violent for the Wheat clan had broken the sacred chalice in such a blatant manner. He talks of the superiority of your army and the assured success of the endeavour. Whilst normally a reliable man, you however know that Thorin’s judgment is heavily impacted by the fact that he was a good friend of your father as well as the fact that Thorin easily falls into rage.

Your clan's steward Bovid however argues the expenses both manpower and gold wise of a war and that we should instead meet with the clan first for negotiations on possible reparations or at least to understand why they killed your father and elder brother.
You've never been able to read Bovid even with your diplomatic skills honed by years of diligent effort so you are unsure what stakes he has with his suggestions.

2/?
>>
>>4443631
Your own diplomatic connections and skills means that allying with some of the other surrounding clans to attack the Wheat clan together is also a viable option. After all the breaking of the chalice oaths so blatantly is perfect as a casus belli for all neighbours of the Wheat clan to attack them. Of course the spoils of war and gains would have to be split between participating clans.

Finally your Einharjar offers to help assassinate the leadership of the Wheat clan on top of any other plan to help make the plan more successful. Whilst your Einharjar has alot of experience with spying for your clan, she's never actually assassinated anyone. Whilst she has the training for it and the will to do so, you're not sure if you should tell her to attempt this high risk high reward plan.

Found job and debated flaking since no longer stuck at home.

You decide that it’s best to rely on the many relationships you’ve forged with the surrounding clans whilst you were training to be a diplomat. Thorin argues against allowing the honour of the vengeance to be shared whilst Bovid shares a few sharp remarks on the rashness of war without understanding all relevant information.

“The act of the Wheat clan breaking the Chalice oaths is not something we can accept. Whilst I agree with you Bovid that we don’t have all the necessary information, we must still ensure there is a response for this clear transgress by the Wheat clan, a response that can only be war. However you are correct in that war is expensive and we need to mitigate costs as much as possible so I believe that the best way to ensure the success of this war is to rely on the grace and honor of our surrounding clans in a joint offense. Surely we will lack loot and plunder but this war is not a war for profit, no it’s a war for vengeance and honour” You argue.

It takes all of your skills in diplomacy to quieten down their many complaints and arguments. In the end however it is not your skill in speech that prevents any strains on your relationships with your followers, its Frea your clan Einharjar. With simply a chilling glare at Thorin and Bovid does both their arguments cease. Frea nods at you slightly at you as you answer her support with a smile.

Now that your choice is settled, you have a few options for which clans to work with to bring about the retribution of the Wheat clan. Between the negotiations and other diplomatic tasks you likely only have time to ally with a single clan before the war fully erupts with the Wheat clan.
>Ash clan that resides in the desolate ash filled mountains to your clan’s east. Their leader Suuto has a longstanding rivalry with the Wheat clan patriarch and are likely to accept. You’re pretty sure their ask in return would be the majority of the fertile land of the Wheat clan.

>The rising Crow clan that resides to the north of the wheat clan ruled by the supposedly all-knowing Harbath. You’re unsure what they may ask in return for an attack against the Wheat clan and whether they would accept. You do however know that between Harbath and his twin Einharjars Hugin and Munin that their support would assure success if you can acquire it.
>The crazy Sun clan ruled by the zealot Sunna in the south who rules over a large portion of Midgardr region. You believe it is highly likely they will ask for religious concessions which you personally don’t care about but may negatively impact your clans relation with other clans as well as turn you into irredeemable enemies with your godi Nicholas.
>Call multiple clans in (which?) which will mean more concessions as well as increased time taken. This means that the war may turn from an offensive war with allies into a solo defensive war whilst you wait for responses.

You decide rather than the mysterious Crow clan or the zealots of the Sun clan that you would rather rely on the Ash clan who’s want of the fertile land of the Wheat clan at least makes their requests predictable.

With as much haste as possible you prepare for war as well as a meeting with the Ash clan.
Your clan commander Thorin happily boasts that you have around 1500 well equipped warriors and 50 war chariots which are far superior to the Wheat clan in quality. You know that most clans of your size have much less troops compared to your clan and it is only the tin mine within your clan territory which allows you to output such a force. In addition, the fact that almost all your warriors are equipped with a full complement of bronze weapons means that your troops are each individually superior to most other clans troops.
Your clan steward Bovid warns you not to take your victory for granted as the enemy clan Einharjar Fulla of “the bountiful harvest” has the ability to drastically boost the output of all agriculture and has done so for over 20 years which means that the Wheat clan likely has a massive amount of soldiers which he thinks total around 2000. Both their reports are trustworthy information you believe as the Wheat clan was previously a long time allied clan so their information is mostly known. Of course the same goes likewise as the Wheat clan knows almost all of your own clan information.

It is 3 days later that you meet with the Ash clan patriarch at a neutrally agreed spot to discuss an allied war against the Wheat clan. You make eye contact with Suuto as you take in his appearance which hasn’t changed much since you last met him. His black ash stained beard and a giant figure that gives at least some evidence to the rumours that Suuto is a Jotunn. You try and read his facial expressions however the need to crane your neck upwards and Suutos massive obscuring beard makes it hard. As you begin attempts at small talk and introductions whilst following diplomatic protocol you’re interrupted.

“Let’s not pussy around like a bunch of women boy. After we done fucked up those Wheat clan twats, I want all of the Wheat clans bitchin’ land. For too long me and mine have been done fucked up by the ash on that fucking mountain. You want me and my boys help that’s what its gonna take.”

As coarse as ever it seems, Suuto makes his “offer”.

>You rolled 113 and beat opposing role of 45. You also passed the DC of 50. Double success.

“I thought our clans were linked by our dual hatred of the Wheat clan curse their treacherous hearts but it seems that I was wrong and you care nought about the Wheat clan. You seem to be mistaken that I chose your clan for an allied attack as if our clan needed you. The truth is we have plenty of other clans we can rely on who would be happy for the spoils of the Wheat clan...” You eloquently begin an argument with countless varied arguments of both logic and emotion.

Your training as a diplomat isn’t for nought as you easily run circles around Suuto in both logic and emotion. You easily play on his own rivalry with the Wheat clan whilst making it seem like whilst he needs you for the prosperity of his clan, you however do not need him and can easily request some other clan instead. When he tries to argue he will just attack the Wheat clan by himself without you than as a counterargument, you easily convince him that such acts will simply lead to a coalition of surrounding clans due to what looks to them like his aggressive expansionism since he has no casus beli without you. You in not so many words quite clearly state that only working with you can his clan prosperity be assured.

You in the end manage to convince him to do a favourable 75/25 split of the lands. You were honestly expecting an even 50/50 split but your far superior negotiating skills secured your clan the majority 75% of the wheat clan’s fertile fields.

Whilst you’ve completely showcased your diplomatic skills, you note that Suuto seems to care little about your glib tongue. You’ve not made any friends today and you doubt from Suutos original offer that he had any intention of befriending or allying your clan from the start. Once the Wheat clan falls, you’ll need to properly deal with the Ash clan through diplomacy, trickery or war.

Back at your clan the war preparations are almost complete however you are interrupted from your war council and planning when one of your messengers inform you that a travelling caravan has arrived from the west. It seemed the merchants had not heard about your clans imminent war but this is at least lucky for you as you’ll have a chance to purchase some rare and hard to find wares just before the war begins. As you peruse the merchants stock you notice 3 items of note.

One is an iron sword, as iron weapons can only be created from meteorites, it’s worth is often more than gold. You know that having this iron sword would be a decent improvement on your personal combat skills and more importantly a decent status symbol as only major clan patriarchs have iron weapons on their person.

One seems to be a work of leather with two hoops, the merchant explains that it comes from the Western nomads who have found a method to expertly ride horses and no longer rely on chariots. They call it a stirrup. You can’t tell if this is nonsense scam or the possibility of a major research and technological boost for your clan.

Finally is what appears to be a beautiful golden ring of masterwork quality, you’re sure such a gift to someone would surely improve their disposition towards you. Moreover the rings symbols seem to be religiously significant and the merchant says the ring is blessed by the gods however you’re sure that’s just religious mumbo jumbo made to take advantage of the gullible.

You have enough personal wealth (20) to purchase up to two of these items, you purchase:

You decide to spend all the personal wealth you’ve accumulated since who knows what happens in war, you’ll need every advantage you can get.

You’re tempted by the ring as it would be a good gift for Frea but in the end you decide that the iron sword and the leatherworks advantages personal and clan wise respectively trump the ring.

You gained iron sword (+5 personal combat, +1 one time reroll in diplomatic setting)

You gained the stirrup (+you can ride horses personally if you train with it, +given enough time and wealth spent this can lead to the technology of stirrups being adopted within your clan)

Whilst the imminent war means you have no time to test if the so called stirrups is a scam or not however the iron sword you now proudly wear at your waist is at least reassuring.

When you return to your war council, there’s only one final question that needs answering. Will you personally participate and lead your warriors or will you sit back in safety. Whilst you have no training combat or war wise, your personal participation would be a helpful morale boost to your troops. On the other hand death or injury is always a possibility on the battlefield.

2 days later, the two armies amass and face each other at the river Ifingr where following standard defensive warfare tactics, the Wheat clan has chosen a river crossing as the defensive point to force your troops to waddle through the river whilst being peppered by arrows. No envoys are sent from the Wheat clan and your side sends no envoys either, it’s been clear since the start that this can only end in war.

Your allies the Ash clan has decided against joining your army and has instead sent their troops to ravage and pillage the Wheat clan’s countryside. The Wheat clan’s patriach’s refusal to send troops to stop the Ash clan - as that would mean less troops to face your army - has provided a helpful morale detriment to the Wheat clans warriors.

Just like what Bovid’s info said, the Wheat clan troops number 2000, a massive size for a small clan that was only possible because of their Einharjar’s Fulla of “the bountiful harvest” efforts over these last 2 decades. Your troops number 1500 with 50 war chariots, whilst your numbers are inferior, your troops are much more superior equipment wise.
Your clan decides to in the battle

>charge the enemy and crush them with your superior troops, you can’t let the Ash clan have all the plunder or the Ash clan to plunder lands that would be yours in the future
>waste time with small skirmishes whilst waiting for the Ash clan’s pillaging to further decrease the Wheat clan’s warriors morale, best to take it safe even if it reduces your future rewards

You’re no master strategist and you lack any kind of combat training outside the bare fundamentals however whilst you don’t understand matters of military, you do however understand people. The morale boost of you leading your troops is well worth the possible risk, plus this is as good chance as any to test out your new iron sword.

Your military commander Thorin is a by the books average commander so once it was decided you will lead the men, he explained common tactics to utilise. You lack the training or expertise to understand if there are any flaws with his plans or if any improvements could be made. In this era the common strategy was to use the archer fire as moving cover, while using chariots to close the distance or flank, until finally the two sides were pulled into close combat. The river crossing may give the Wheat clan an advantage and they may have superior numbers but you decide to charge anyways as you have trust in the superiority of your troops.

“For Valhalla!” With a thunderous roar your army charges and the vibrations of thousands of people stomping forward could be heard with both ones ear and one’s body. This is your first actual war and you are ill-prepared for the sheer chaos of it as you charge forwards on feet with your men.

>You rolled 75 personal combat. Success.
>You rolled 90 battle. You beat opposing role of 88. Double success.

You charged forward as you'd never charged before, with nought but hope in long forgotten lessons of swordsmanship. You charged because the world was divided into opposites and your side had already been chosen for you, your only choice being whether or not to play your part with heart and courage. You charged because fate had placed you in a position of responsibility and you had accepted the burden.

Arrows fell all around you as men you’ve known your whole life were shot down between the gaps of your bronze shields. The river below your army slowed down your advance and made your charge more of a waddle. However finally you and your army made it to the other side.

You always thought war was an organised affair of two armies clearly against one another but the chaotic brawl was less two armies and more a whole bunch of individual fights. You easily cut down a youthful boy barely past his 13th year. You barely survive against a grizzled veteran who far surpassed you in skill but lost only because your iron sword broke his bronze. You barely avoid a spear. You are tackled into the mud. You knife one man in the behind whilst hes engaged in combat. And so on and so forth. The chaos of the battle leaves you little time to think or even understand one moment to the next however finally the warhorns sound of your armies victory.

Those few remaining of the Wheat clan’s army quickly starts retreating once they realise it is no ploy and that your Fang clan’s army has completely decimated theirs. It seemed that for all the advantage in both numbers and terrain, the sheer difference in the troops meant that your Fang clan easily crushed the Wheat clan.

To make matters even better, it seems that your clan has captured the Wheat clan Patriach Vali. Finally this conflict between your clan and the Wheat clan is over and with their wheat clan patriarch Vali alive, you can finally get some answers on why their clan betrayed yours.

Before you mop up the remnants of the Wheat clan army and begin occupation of their territory however you have a choice to make. Do you accept your army commander Thorin’s suggestion to pillage, burn and kill as much of the wheat clan as possible. After all your revenge is not over with just your capture of the Wheat clan patriarch. Or do you wish to take it easier now that you have Vali the man responsible for the betrayal. After all these lands will soon be yours.

You decide a standard amount of pillaging to keep morale of troops up as well as to gain plunder. No need to go overboard as the land will be mostly yours in the future whilst also no need to prevent plundering as that will kill troop morale for the foreseeable future. Your commander Thorin would prefer for all out plunder and vengeance but luckily your skill with words prevents any major issues. Whilst he’s not perfectly satisfied, neither is he particularly angry at your choices.

As your army sweeps across the fertile Wheat clan lands like a swarm of barely controlled locusts, you finally have the chance to interrogate the Wheat clan patriarch Vali and find out just why did he betray your father and the clan’s alliance. Thorin happily joins you in the interrogation with a barely restrained look of bloodlust and hatred directed towards Vali.

“Let’s be honest with each other Vali, when this is all over your death is as assured as the sun in the morning. However what’s not assured is the process of your death, your death could be short and quick or it could be very very long and painful.” You speak menacingly whilst Thorin hums in the background whilst sharpening a dagger.

Vali responds to your words with spit upon your face and mad rambling. “You’re as stupid as your father for thinking that you can stop what’s coming. I’ve seen his armies and his foresight, the only path is to kneel to he who shall become the one-eyed king. Resistance is futile you worthless fools. Soon he shall save me for he sees all and knows all. Soon you shall be grovelling at my feet you worms.”

You exchange a glance with Thorin to try and understand his mad rambling but Thorin seems as confused as you are. As far as you can figure out Vali seems to be a follower of someone or something which he thinks that even now can save him from his predicament. Any further attempts by you to pry out information from Vali fails futilely as he adamantly refuses to say a word. Even when you allow Thorin to “help encourage” Vali, he refuses to talk. Instead he screams that he knows this is a test and that he shall never betray “him”.

You’ve never dealt well with the zealous types filled with belief due to your own cynical nature so you decide to end this asap:

>Execute Vali by beheading him before a crowd making sure that everyone knows that justice lies with you and of Valis crimes (+Thorin opinion of you, +morale of army, +reputation, -possibility of more information)

You want answers and you want them now, if you have to let Thorin break Vali to find those answers than you will. Thorin approves of your action as he gives you a savage grin when you tell him he’s allowed to do whatever is required to make Vali talk.

Relationship with Thorin: Friendly

Vali’s screams echo across the camp for the next few hours and you notice many of your men refuse to look you in the eye and any orders you give out are met with frightened and stammering haste. It seems you are now somewhat feared by your men for your uncaring attitude towards torture. Hopefully the fact that Vali is traitorous scum that broke the Chalice vows would help mitigate the negative effects upon your reputation.

It is sometime later that Thorin greets you with a satisfied smile whilst you give your “diplomat’s smile” whilst trying to avoid staring at his hands covered in blood and guts. He tells you that whilst Vali was madder than you can imagine, even mad men can be broken.
Before Vali died, Thorin was able to find out that your father had tried to recruit Vali into a joint military coalition against the aggressive expansionism of the Crow clan. However unbeknownst to your father, Vali had already long decided to become to become a vassal of the Crow clan.
Apparently Vali decided to kill your father and your elder brother “to showcase his value and prove his loyalty” to Harbath patriarch of the Crow clan as Vali had believed that with your father and elder brother dead, your clan’s territories would be an easy conquest as you yourself were “only good with your glib tongue”. Apparently Vali also had the absolute belief that even if he fails, Harbath patriarch of the Crow clan would surely save him.
You question Thorin on why Vali seems to have such a zealous fanatical belief in Harbath and the Crow clan but Thorin doesn’t seem to understand either. Whatever the case now you know why your father and elder brother died.

Anywho.

As your army slowly sweeps across the Wheat clan, you enjoy yourself with the spoils of war ravenously taking the virginity of countless Wheat clan girls and women. Frea casts you disproving glances and glares but it was obvious you would partake in the fruits of conquest with a lust such as yours. Of course the spoils of war aren’t just women, as patriarch you have first pick upon the many artworks, jewellery and of course the gold that the Wheat clan had amassed over the years.

+20 wealth

Unfortunately it seemed that you failed to capture the Einharjar of the Wheat clan Fulla of “the bountiful harvest” who according to reports escaped with a small force of warriors to the north of the Wheat clan. Most likely Harbath of the Crow clan now houses her although the possibility that Loptyr of the Air clan houses her is also possible.

Whilst your clan cannot be called particularly kind in your actions of pillaging the Wheat clan, you find out your Fang clan would practically be saints compared to the Ash clan. It seemed wherever the Ash clan pillaged, there is nought but corpses now. Of course you can somewhat understand the reasoning behind Suuto’s actions, after all his Ash clan people will want to settle on the fertile Wheat clan lands now so the Wheat clan residents are a nuisance. Luckily for all the brutality of the Ash clan, Suuto is abiding by the terms of the agreement and the division of the land between the two of your clans goes smoothly, helped along of course by your glib tongue and oral skills.

With the war against the Wheat clan finally over, you now have some down time to focus on other matters.

I'll do the integrate bit before the seduce Frea bit as it fits better storywise.

Now that you’ve fully occupied the Wheat clan territories, you decide that the most important matter is to help integrate the remnants of the Wheat clan into your Fang clan.
However even with your oral skills and the full support of your clan, the responses by the Wheat clan are mostly lukewarm.
Whilst any orders you give them are met with fearful obedience due to your overwhelmingly superior military presence, the Wheat clan opposes everything the Fang clan subtly (e.g. they would purposely give you the worst wheat or there would be “accidental” fires and other property damage exclusively targeted at the Fang clan camps).
Most likely this is a combination of your clans looting/pillaging as well as the rumours that have spread about how you tortured to death the Wheat clan patriarch Vali.
Whilst you are good at giving speeches to the Wheat clan population as well as negotiating personally with the higher ups within the Wheat clan, it does not change the fact you are completely lacking in matters of administration.
Even with Bovid’s tireless help, you are having trouble integrating the Wheat clan. Bovid hints that the unrest may result in full blown rebellion and separatist armies sooner or later if worst comes to worst.

In the end your attempts to integrate the Wheat clan:

You’d think with all your previous actions against the Wheat clan that there would be some kind of comeuppance however it seems your masterful tongue and tireless diligence with your countless speeches to the rabble was able to at least somewhat convince the Wheat clan to not openly revolt.
Bovid aids you in these matters by arranging countless marriages between the higher ups of the Wheat clan together with the higher ups of the Fang clan.
You also spend some of your clan’s wealth in various concessions and projects to help the Wheat clan and increase public opinion of the Fang clan.
One such project was to start building a bridge across the river Ifingr to fully connect the Fang and Wheat clan territories. Of course neither the Wheat clan remnants nor the Fang clan makes mention of the fact that the wealth utilised for these projects was stolen from the Wheat clan in the plundering.
Of course you do not only use the carrot to motivate the Wheat clan to follow you. You also utilise the fear of the stick in the form of increase warrior patrols.
This luckily results in the capture of the malcontents responsible for many of the acts of vandalism against the Fang clan who you find out are being helped by the Crow clan. It seems that sooner or later you’ll need to meet the Crow clan and deal with them.
By the end of a long series of speeches and concessions, you finally manage with a tired groan to properly integrate the Wheat clan into your Fang clan whilst drastically lowering the possibilities of a rebellion.

It is night and you are bone tired with massive dark rings under your eyes. At this time of night you would normally look for a fair damsel to charm and bed but you decide to just sleep instead. You enter your room looking to sleep only to find Frea waiting for you with a silent look of concern. It seems that she worries for you after you pushed yourself so hard these past few days.
Normally you’d just smile and thank her for her concern but tonight, maybe it’s your tiredness talking but whatever the case you decide that tonight will be the night that you will lay with Frea.
You know your regular playboy charms and tricks won’t work vs Frea who can read you like a book. No you will need something heartfelt or a command and you would never command her. If you wish to lay with her, it may mean you’ll need to say the words and you care about Frea too much to lie.

You decide that now’s not the time for any words of love as you aren’t sure yet if you simply like and lust for Frea or truly love her. You do however decide as usual to try to charm Frea and bed her as is usual with flowery words. You are too tired to make a good effort with your flattery notably subpar and lacking in beauty.

You don’t expect much from this as you expect her to silently refute and refuse you but tonight it’s different.

With charming words she simply whispers into your ears “You’ve worked hard and I’ll reward you just this one time”.

What happens after was a “battle” between experienced and knowledgeable you with the fumbling and virgin her. Suffice to say if it was a battle than you had easily dominated and controlled from beginning to end.

- Frea Viewpoint –
The air was thick with the smell of two bodies’ worth of sweat and pheromones mixed together, it was that scent particular to the aftermath of a man and woman’s intimate relations.

She glanced over at the man who was still asleep with his back to her. She was aware that it was likely the man did not love her the way she did to him but that was perfectly fine. For she was his tool now and forever.

Her mother always said that a woman’s happiness was in being loved and cherished by others. But she felt the opposite. To find someone whom she could love and cherish and devote everything to was her purpose.

So no matter how much she wanted to cry and no matter how much her heart is filled with longing, it is fine, for she was a tool and tonight only proved it.

Over the next couple weeks this thought is confirmed as Frea seems to avoid you whilst you yourself was busy from the countless duties of being clan patriarch to find time to talk with Frea.

One such major duty that you’ve had to deal with is concerning the Crow clan who have sent an envoy requesting an important diplomatic meeting between the Crow and Fang clan patriarchs on neutral ground. They refuse to state the exact reason until you’re there.

Considering all the information you know from torturing Vali of the Wheat clan, how should you deal with this?

>Formal diplomatic meeting with the Crow clan, you need to hear what they have to say regardless of what you may know about the Crow clan or maybe you can use what you know as leverage of some kind

>Refuse the meeting, you know too much about the Crow clan to trust them at all. Especially so when the Crow clan patriarch Harbath somehow can inspire fanatical devotion from Vali.

>Ambush the meeting since when you get down to it, the root cause of your father and brother’s deaths were the Crow clan.

I thought we could tell her later after we romance her and melt her frigid heart, spending time together.

I mean we can literally order her to do anything, even have sex with us right? So just "forcing ourselves on her didn't feel right, I wanted her to give a signal for us to start wooing her properly and then profess our love to her, and maybe even swear off all (or just most) women other than her.

>formal diplo meet
For all your misgivings and lack of trust of the Crow clan and their patriarch Harbath, you decide that you will meet them anyways to hear what they have to say.
After all the possible long term diplomatic reputation loss from ambushing a meeting will just get your clan hated and potentially lose you the trust of all other clans for years at the least.
There is also the upside that a formal diplomatic meeting plays to your strengths best.

When you discuss your choice with your councillors, Thorin your army commander grumbles about your choice as he believes an ambush would be a better approach and that this may be the only chance you have to take down the Crow clan patriarch without the loss of countless lives in pitched battle and war.
Not even your silver tongue can convince him of the correctness of your choice and it ends with you and Thorin having a long argument with you.
Normally Frea could stop such matters easily with her sheer presence but Frea is absent from the council meeting.
Luckily your relationship with Thorin is good enough that he declines to further argue with you once he is sure you are dead set on your choice of a formal diplomatic meeting.

It is Bovid that takes the news the best, the man is normally unreadable at the best of times even with your diplomatic acumen, however it is clear he is happy with your choice of a formal diplomatic meeting.
Most likely Bovid is happy that you’ve avoided tarnishing your clan’s long term reputation however as usual, you are unclear about Bovid’s precise reasoning and motives.

All your councillors are happy to let you arrange the details of the meeting as they know that you far surpass them in matters of formal diplomatic meetings such as this.
Unlike a diplomatic meeting with a ruffian like the Ash clan patriarch, the Crow clan patriarch rules over a large respectable clan which means there are countless customs you need to be aware of.
You carefully think over the clothing requirements to ensure respect both ways. You know that for someone who rules over a large clan like Harbath that it is expected to wear a tunic with silk trimmings at formal meetings rather than fur. Your leggings meanwhile should be of leather with cross-gartering. Your jewellery should… etc. You make sure to adhere to all required rules and expected customs.

In the end after diligently and carefully choosing options to achieve every diplomatic advantage you are ready for the meeting. On the way to the meeting location you note a flock of crows that seems to be heading the same way you are. If you were the religious sort you’d think this be some kinda sign or some other bullshit but you care little over such matters.

At the meeting you finally meet the imposing one eyed Harbath and his sheer weight of presence hangs on you. Harbath is a one eyed old man with a long white beard, outside the normal formal attire, he also wears a long cloak and a wide brimmed hat.
Unlike most elderly you know he stands with easy composure without the aid of any walking implements.
This is the man who had within his mere lifetime conquered countless other clans with unseen before tactics and technologies which turned the small Crow clan into a major clan of the Alfheimer and Midgardr regions.
He is so feared for his aggressive expansionism that countless military coalitions have formed against him.

“I am patriarch of the Fang clan Orvar Halvrson, I give my greetings to Harba-” you begin following formal customs however you are interrupted by the Crow clan patriarch

“Its Hárbarth, not Harbath. A common mistake yet I find the need to correct you nonetheless. If we are to have any long standing friendly relations, we should at least know how to properly call one another.” Hárbarth says with the slightest of smirks.

You’re no idiot, it seems that whatever is being discussed here at this meeting will possibly result in long term relations between your clan and his.
The question is than what kind of long term relationship does he want?
If you had no knowledge you’d think in terms of trade or alliance but you know that Vali was secretely a follower/vassal of Hárbarth so it’s not too hard to figure out what’s being said.
You’re about to reply that he should “fuck off” albeit in a diplomatic tone however he forestalls you.

“Before you give me your answer child, let me explain what WILL happen whether you accept or not. Within the next 10 years I will unite all of the 9 regions of Niflheim, Muspelheim, Asgard, Midgard, Jotunheim, Vanaheim, Alfheim, Svartalfheim and Helheim as its’ first and last king. This has already been foreseen, the only thing left is whether thousands of years from now, when our bones are long dust and there are only myths and legends, you will either be part of MY myth or forgotten.” Hárbarth says with clear arrogance.

You are now clear of something at least, the man is more insane and more arrogant than anyone you’ve ever met. Which when you think about it makes sense since Vali was just as insane as he was.You don’t know what kinda religious bullshit his godi has been feeding him but you can clearly see that this man actually believes the nonsense he says.

The obvious choice would be to decline his offer however you realise this is also an opportunity. The Crow clan are said to possess technology and tactics never seen before so if you agree or pretend to agree you could potentially reap the harvests.

You decide to

>Decline the madman’s proposal to become his follower

>Be vague and refuse to choose right now, you need more time to think

>Accept the madman’s proposal with the intention to one day betray him once you’ve reaped the spoils

>Be vague and refuse to choose right now, you need more time to think

You decide against giving an absolute answer here which would force you into conflict with Hárbarth and instead to try and buy time by being vague.

You do your best impression of Nicholas and his long winded but ultimately pointless speeches as you do your best to both prevent Hárbarth from forcing you to give an answer whilst simultaneously praising Hárbarth in countless ways in an attempt to prevent any anger.

Unfortunately, Hárbarth is as well schooled in the ways of diplomacy as you are and he easily sees through your attempts to avoid answering.

Luckily he does not force you to give an answer however he gives you the following warning.

“One day thousands of years from now, a man will write that ‘A prince wins prestige for being a true friend or a true enemy, that is, for revealing himself without any reservation in favor of one side against another’. You should think over these words child for those that refuse to choose a side will only be at the mercy of the conqueror and will likewise earn the scorn of the loser. You have a year and a day, if you aren’t my allied follower by than you will be considered an enemy and even if I must stain my hands in your clan’s blood, I will have the grain producing breadbasket territories that you now control.”

As usual it seems the arrogant Hárbarth is mixing both genius and madness talking as if he knows what someone thousands of years from now will write whilst also providing advice that you cannot argue is wise.

Hopefully the year and a day he gives you will be more than enough time to raise a grand military coalition against the Crow clan. You know the Crow clan has many enemies throughout the Alfheimer and Midgarder regions.

Also since Hárbarth seems to truthfully have stated his intention to control the Wheat clan breadbasket territories, you are sure that the Ash clan should be amiable to a military alliance since Ash clan also controls some of the territories threatened by Hárbarth’s Crow clan.

As you take your leave and head back to the clan, Hárbarth gives you some last parting words

“I hope you come to your senses sooner rather than later child, there are only 10 years left until it all ends and ALL of the 9 regions must be united under me before then.”

You ask what happens in 10 years but he ignores you with disinterest.

You head on back to the clan where you discuss with your war council about your meeting with Hárbarth.

Thorin barely controls his rage when he hears that the Crow clan wants you to be their follower and vassal. He speaks of the long history of the Fang clan and of your clan’s independence throughout all of it.

Bovid however questions Thorin on if following Hárbarth would really be that bad. Bovid points out the technologies that the Crow clan has such as their ability to make gritless bread, their “crop rotation”, their glassworks and finally their army tactics. Bovid points out the many benefits and prosperity such technology would bring.

For once Nicholas takes a side in matters and clearly announces in a long rambling speech the “divine right” each patriarch has to rule independently. You note however he doesn’t mention the fact that only one clan Godi exists for each patriarch and that if you became a follower and was no longer patriarch than Nicholas would lose his status.

As has been usual of late, Frea is avoiding you and therefore the meetings.

You are now free from any important matters for now, what 2 tasks do you do? Also for this choice please state the order as depending on order of choices, certain matters may be different.

>Start organising a military coalition against the Crow clan starting with x nearby clans (choices are: Ash, Sun, Wolf, and Air).

>Attempt to join the existing military coalition in the Midgarder region (if chosen, must be first choice)

>Find Frea and attempt to fix your relationship with each other (specify if you want to romance or want to just fix back to childhood friends)

>Stirrups research + training

>Send spies (specify if Frea or just generic spies) against the Crow clan

>Find Frea and attempt to fix your relationship with each other (Romance)
This will be lengthly update
Things have been awkward between you and Frea ever since you bedded her due to you listening to your dick over your brains.

Whilst you’ve had many mishaps due to your many lustful conquests, this is the first time you’ve truly felt guilty for the choice.

You curse past-Harvar as you decide that you need to fix things with Frea as soon as possible.

You spend a number of weeks of free time when you’re not busy with the clan looking for Frea however she seems to elude you every time which considering her ability as an einharjar, is quite easy for her.

As you spend the weeks without Frea, you finally start to understand now that you are without her that deep down maybe you truly loved her. Now you look for her not only to amend your relationship but also to attempt to make her your lover and possibly wife.

As you repeatedly fail to find her, you even consider for a few brief moments to give up other women besides her however you quickly squash that thought down, you’re nowhere near ready to give up other women, not even for Frea.

In the end with no other resort, you’re forced to something that no prideful man would ever do… you decide to rely on your mother.

Your relationship with your mother has always been great as it was she who mostly brought you up whilst your father and elder brother were busy with clan matters.

You however have been mostly avoiding meeting your mother ever since your father and brother died. You try and convince yourself that you’ve been too busy for her but you can’t really find a reason deep down for why you’ve been avoiding her.

Your mother is just shy of her 40s however time has done little to mar her beauty, a beauty that was enough for your father to marry her a common villager over any daughter of another clan’s patriarch. You remember hearing from Thorin that Bovid was livid at the time when your father wasted a possible alliance to marry some villager. Luckily your mother easily showcased that she was not just looks when with flowery words, she charmed everyone she met.

You approach your mother one night after a lengthy council meeting on news about increasing raids from the western nomads as well as about the brewing war between the military coalition vs the Crow clan to the north.

“Welcome my stars and sunrise. It is a pleasure to finally see you meet your dear old mam, I know you must be dreadfully busy as a clan patriarch. To what do I owe the pleasure?”
She greets you with a warm smile however you’re not fooled one bit, after all this is the woman who taught you everything you know about diplomacy as well as taught Frea all she knows about intrigue.

Normally you’d love to exchange joking barbs with her but not tonight. No you get to the point with all the subtly of an elephant in a china shop.
“I’d love to talk with you some more mother but I’m sorry, tonight is about Frea. Please I need to find her and make amends with her.” You ask with more desperation than you realise.
“Also remember how you always talked about wanting grandkids…” You add on a joke to both calm yourself and hopefully draw her attention away from your desperation.
“She’s not pregnant is she? Gods damn it she’s the clan einharjar and I will not have you ruin another girl with that insatiable lust of yours. I literally have handmaidens for that.” Your mother speaks in a deadpan tone with hints of annoyance. Woops looks like she took your joke seriously. Well at least you found out why your mother has so many virgin handmaidens always down for a tumble.

“That girl Frea is sulking at the Broken Fang tavern. She’s using the form of some black haired peasant waitress. Make SURE she takes the herbs, she’ll know what I’m talking about.” she tells you Frea’s location.

You enter into the noisy Broken Fang tavern, even now near midnight, the noisy thrum and chaos of the tavern is in full swing.

As you take a seat, a black haired waitress who you’re pretty sure is Frea disguised takes your order. You note with some satisfication that she has absolutely zero tells or reactions showcasing her high disguise and intrigue ability.

“Hey-hello welcome to Broken Fang tavern, whatcha having rich mister? The broth is tots to die for and we’ve even got some non-black bread.” Frea asks in a completely non-Frea way. She even has a toothy smile instead of the normal expressionless face. It looks like Frea is in full disguise mode. Normally you’d mess with her but with your relationship the way it is currently, you decide to just outright state it.

“I know it’s you Frea, mother told me. Let’s talk privately.” You say confidently as you watch Frea’s expression instantly change from smiling and friendly weirdness into expressionless normal Frea.

Sometime later after the two of you are safely private within your room, the two of you face one and another.

You’re going to not only fix your relationship with Frea but also romance her. The question is how? You’ve already soured your relationship when you bedded her before in a moment of lust and you’re unsure if she even wants to become your lover or wife anymore.

How do you convince and romance Frea?

Apologize at how we treated her before as an object of conquest instead of a person with feelings. Tell her we have always had strong feelings for her since childhood. Tell her that we are too afraid to admit this hence the frequent light flirting. Tell her that we are done pussyfooting around, we love her, and we want our relationship to be much closer as lovers and perhaps one day as husband and wife.
