Maria Louisa Regnia, Kingslayer and Daughter of the Dragon. The Ball has come and gone, however while the events of the ball itself were minor those outside of it were major. The Heroine Chloe has acted, going into Maria’s room and scavenging it for evidence to go against her. Such is the state of affairs, and the future of multiple realms all weigh in this delicate balance on whether or not this can incriminate Maria, and vica versa.

The sun had finally sunken itself behind a series of clouds, as if fearing what is to come in the following days. In truth the citizens of the Holy Austin Empire knew they were taking such weathers for granted, and now were preparing for what is thought to be a grand storm that would finally bring in winter.

For Maria, she had finally finished disarming and removing the last of her traps. She was probably lucky that none of them stained her room, but also unlucky in that same manner. It did not help her case when it came to evidence, that much was for sure.

What was missing however was one of the two bottles that held the dangerous drugs that were used to poison the current Dictator of Holand. Indeed Maria did not think much of it, as what could the girl do with what was simply a bottle filled with Tea at this point?

“Uh, Mistress, I am sorry to say but are you sure you want to keep this book? It will surely start rotting like this.” Melody claimed while looking over book herself.

“No, somehow I feel like that would be impossible.” Maria mentioned while making her way towards the object in question, “Its also a pretty important, so please refrain from moving it just in case your theory is correct.”

Indeed the book, atleast a couple of its pages, were covered in a thin layer of blood. Such was because of a simple razor that Maria snuck into it the page where a series of names were placed. Indeed that trap was probably her most devious, and based on what happened Maria would guess their tardiness to the dance was for that exact reason.

Odd though, since Maria did not remember Chloe having any bandages…

Though as Maria made a cursory glance at the papers, she noticed something was off where the spots of blood were. On closer inspection she realized what she was seeing was text that she had yet to see.

Probably needs some
Adjustment has
Bloo

Somekind of invisible ink, Maria quickly reasoned, so she took a few drops of her own blood and dripped it upon the pages without hesitation. However even as it dried up, nothing was revealed. Actually, instead the blood seemed to almost be wiped off the pages without issue.

Weird, that much Maria could admit. However it was Monday morning, and Maria needed to head to class as of now.

I'm curious as to why she only took one bottle and if the blood is from lucien or chloe, probably the former since the ink making her dress better implies chloe was the one who drank the lucky potion

If Chloe fell for the tea then we're probably somewhat safe compared to what could have been.
>Have Melody report the break in to the guards (if she didn't immediately do that in the morning? Seems like she should have done that automatically.) and get the potions moved to a more secure locale (probably post office?)
If Chloe reports the potion, she's screwed by it being tea. If Chloe uses the potion then whatever scheme she tries (Like dumping it in our food/drink for revenge) it ends up failing. If we need to use her break in to justify something the guards now have a record.

>Gossip girls . Our room being broken into seems more than scandalous enough for us to contribute after we got the rundown of what we missed.
We have over a week of gossip to catch up on and we need to see how eyewitnesses reacted to or remember that bizzare farce of a scene with Chloe.

The lack of any detail on the brothel thingy makes sense now if she's mindraping people. Checking up on our bandits to see if their brains weren't turned to mush might be a future priority.

Chloe probably manifested her saintess powers since there are no bandages. That might explain her beaming so much, but otherwise it implies she's hiding her abilities which is very suspect.

Hopefully the bachelor pad is still open after gossip. Gotta make sure noone mistakenly confesses I think a chalkboard might be in order to at least make them our backup if Chloe gets us into a dungeon before she begins the next phase of her evil plan.

We're gonna need to ask the inquisitors for advice on this book. Hidden messages revealed in blood sound kinda suspect and they may know ways to reveal the secrets to see what's going on.
>>
>>4429937
So should we act up that things were stolen? or...

And technically the existence of the invisible ink gives an excuse for the blade oddly enough. She didn't bother taking the healing potion so something's off.
>>
>>4429959
Well the way I see it being perceived, somebody broke into our room to do some sort of heretical blood ritual with a random book we had. We don't really have to act up about it so much as make a paper trail. If everyone else's mind wasn't wiped the culprit is going to be figured out as Chloe really damn fast since she came in wearing circumstantial evidence. f I was going for making a big stink I would be reporting to the headmaster, but by going to the guards it'll also take a while longer to work it's way to the headmaster (hopefully) after Chloe reports sneaking into our room to find the "potion." Lucien's faction aren't clued in to rumours either, so the news won't get to them before Chloe talks to the headmaster..
So she gets framed as trying to frame us as well as whatever the hell was going on with that book.

I think we need to ask the headmaster about making protective charms or something against mind control using our faith. That saint finger might be the only reason we saw through everything that happened at the ball.
>>
>>4429802
Wait remind me again what the stolen bottle does? Weren't the two effects mind control and aphrodisiac?
>>
>>4430006
Yes. Before we filled them with tea.

She didn't take the 3rd bottle though.
>>
>>4429959
Actually, now that I think of it, telling our friends about the blood ritual part might get the church in trouble and us too. They went through some trouble to keep those cultists under wraps after all.
>>4429937
>Adjusting my previous vote. No telling the gossip girls about the book covered in blood. Or at least saying we can't mention more due to it being a serious matter we have to check with the inquisitors about first.

Maria’s first class, Economics, had come though much issue. In about two weeks their exams would soon happen, and while they would not outright ruin someone it was definitely something that Maria wanted to succeed in. Success meant prestige and piety in that you have beaten a variety of Nobles as well as showing that you were receptive to the Church’s mission of educating the masses.

Soon though the lesson on how to budget one’s realm and properly figure out taxes had finished. So with a little smile about herself Maria traveled towards where all the womanless men were staying. Well, atleast everyone but maybe Albert, but that has yet to be solidified due to Maria’s quick leave over the previous night.

Without hesitation Maria opened the door that was next to the library, her sight very much betraying her.

Somehow another couch had been dragged into the room, making what was modestly cramped to truly cramped. However sitting upon it was both Elizabeth and Erica, both chatting about while Elric sat opposite of them. Matheo seems to have taken a spot next to Elric with a joking smile upon his face

Of course, finally, Albert was in the back working on his papers. However the man was funny enough the first to look back and give Maria a wave in, “Hey Maria, did they keep you in a little longer?”

“Indeed they did, nothing like the presence of Exams to cause abrupt extensions to the class.”

“Exams… I don’t like them already.” Elric called out while sipping what Maria guessed was his fruit flavored tea.

“I do not think that you need to worry about them so much, Elric.” Elizabeth answered timidly.

“Indeed you don’t. Even if you are the Second Child I would find it hard for the Emperor to neglect his own child’s education.” Erica said backing her friend.

“Fufu, you do not realize something about Elric’s early life. He spent just as much more time planning how to get away from his tutors than actually studying.”

“Matheo you traitor!”

“Oh come now, you call little ol’ me a traitor? I was simply doing what your mother would want me to be doing.”

“Tsk, don’t be comparing yourself to my mom.”

Gotta ascertain just how strong that mind control effect was. Does mentioning it dispel the effect? Do we have no eyewitnesses and have to try and check with the laundry maids about them getting a messed up dress?
Gotta warn Elric that Chloe or whatever is manipulating her might be able to force him into giving up the kingship and we have to find a way to protect him from that mind control.

>>4430507
Technically she does since she's probably going to try and pin things on us to cover up her abuse of mind control on Oskar. Somebody clever enough might trick an ally into admitting there were potions

“Cool it you two, we can hear stories about Elric’s childhood later. That is, if you want it said all about the school with little to no discretion.” Maria called out like a mother discipling her children.

“Fine fine, it was fun while it lasted anyways.” Matheo answered with a self pleasing smile about himself.

“Well on that note it seems like what we need is a study group! Isn’t that right Albert?”

Said young man only turned around in his seat and looked to Maria, “A study group? What do you mean by that?”

Taking a moment Maria looked around at all the faces around her, everyone looking at Maria with confused looks. Soon though realization hit her, “None of you have heard of a Study Group together have you?”

“I mean,” Matheo started with a curious expression, “it means that we study together, as a group. Right?”

“Indeed, though we would need to pick a time. Is everyone able on Thursday?” Maria declared while looking over the others. None seemed able to say otherwise, “So we meet here on Thursday. Be sure to bring your notes from class and prepare to go over them!”

Maria received a bunch of affirmatives and declaration from the others, soon going into their food that was brought over by one of the school’s maids. Soon enough they had all eaten their food and were about ready to go.

However before he could go Maria went up to Elric, “I have a quick question about last night. Did you notice anything out of the ordinary by chance?”

“Out of the ordinary? Well my Brother being that late to an event will be it.” Elric mentioned without much issue, “Why?”

“Don’t you think those two were getting too much attention. I was not there at the moment, but I heard a roar of cheers coming the moment they entered the building.”

“Well, I honestly can’t say.” Elric admitted with a shaking of the head, “She’s cute and with the Crowned Prince. Why would they not cheer for him?”

Indeed that was the case, but here Maria could not help but feel things were off still. However lunch was to an end, and they all needed to go to class.

Classes had come and gone, with Faith class having a fairly non talkative Albert in it. As for what was happening in the class, Maria gained an understanding that now that they’ve gotten a modest understanding on old legends, that the teacher was actually going to start working on the lore itself.

Whether this lore involved either learning about simple gods of other regions or monsters of the land Maria could not really say. However the entire time Maria could not help but notice Chloe taking a few glances towards her the entire time. What they meant, Maria did not really know but neither did she care.

Instead what she cared about was her little operation.

Soon enough Maria arrived at the place, taking what seemed to be an hour walk. Indeed she needed to, at some point, learn how to fucking ride a horse. Until that day came, Maria was stuck on her feet like some foolish plebeian.

“Stop right- Oh, shit!” A man’s eyes went wide as Maria finally arrived to the small estate.

“Oh, with a reaction like that would think you've mistaken me as a Monster.”

“Shit shit, come on in Ma’am.” The man answered while opening the door behind himself.

“Thank you very much. It is good to see you all have yet to forget my face.”

“Well, Ma’am, your face is pretty hard to forget. I’m pretty sure some of the younger men have been thinking it up over the night.”

“A funny thought, though are you trying to disgust me?”

“No Ma’am! I just thought because you were at the whore house-”

“Stop there before you embarrass me and yourself.” Maria answered with a sigh, “Is Jimmy around?”

“Y-yup! He’s at the topmost floor at the far end of the hall.”

“Figures.” And with that Maria followed his orders to the letter.
>>
Walking about she noticed how the piles and piles of mail were being sorted. The men of obviously more scholarly pursuits referencing them with several large tomes that were laid about the room. Soon enough they finished packing the things in bags, and sent them off with several men both young and old to deliver.

So Maria climbed up the stair case, going up to the second floor that overlooked all this. Soon enough she arrived at a door, and without hesitation. Of course the person was surprised, but to Maria’s sadness he did not have any mistresses with him.

“You know, I expected you to keep atleast one whore on hand at all times.” Maria answered with a devilish smirk upon herself.

The man looked stun for a moment before shaking his head, “Well, whores are pretty expensive. Especially near a place they are not welcomed.”

“Good point, the Church has much sway over the area.” Maria soon took a seat, “So what is the status report on the happenings around here?”

“Hmm, well nothing much. Seems things have not been so detailed after that little letter we intercepted from earlier.” He admitted with what was a relaxed smile, “You do not know how hard it was to remove that from the courier. The fellow had two escorts with him armored head to toe!”

“How did you liberate the letter from him then?”

“Hehe, well horses are pretty bad at climbing out of holes they found out before meeting the Lord.”

“Well, I guess it is good no man survived such a dreadful accident.”

“Indeed.” The man answered before shking his head one last time, “Well Ma’am, here the last few days some of my men have heard of a modestly sized estate off near Enzach. If we are lucky, we might be able to nail it and expand a good bit being in a port town.”

“Is that so? And I take it you thought of some negatives?”

“Well, yeah.” He answered while scratching the back of his head, “I’m a little drawn out on men as it is. We can hire some proper folk, but then we probably won't be able to check nearly as much mail as we do these days.”

I'm not one to stop people from living a righteous life if they so desire and even knowing where letters are being sent can be important.
>Expand anyways. Worst comes to worst, they all just live as proper entrepreneurs.
The main/current forces can be a "VIP/senior" section for nobility to help cover that we're going through that mail. Proper folk can be convinced they're secretly rooting out heretics or something in the service of the country/etc. I suppose we technically might have to explain the concept of a secret agent

>So what happened after I left? The fact that I haven't heard a single rumour of her bringing the prince to a whorehouse worries me.
>Do you remember the first mail you intercepted for me? That girl with the prince was the other one those cultists were targeting with their obscene rituals. Give the basic rundown on Chloe+ bird (about how we're worried she might be getting corrupted but have no proof since nobody else seems to notice) and warn them to never attack her or anyone near her lest it be some sort of infernal trap to get you executed for harming such an "innocent" damsel or simply engage the ire of the prince/kingdom.

>>4431587
What if Chloe tries to spike our brothers lunch with lust potion and pretend she didn't do anything because bird powers on maximum?
>>
>>4431715
She only took the vials we used and put tea, so if she got a lust potion she had to buy it or ask either Lucien or Ford (which by his “morals” should be against it)
>>
>>4431719
Ford would be pretty easy to agree with how much he hates our guts...or so paranoid that he should be the one doing it first than him getting it.
>>
>>4431715
Guy, do you honestly think an Otome Heroine would do that? Im getting a little tired of you all making outragious ideas on what is clearly not in character
>>
>>4431715
She can spike food and then use bird powers to make it work when it fails as proof that we had such potions. Luckily we still have that inventory list so it's also a chance to entrap her by showing that we never used any potions since the tea potions are proven "real" if she's using it as proof to the headmaster.

I completely failed to notice more bandit recruiting as an option last night

We should write a letter while we're here and maybe have any letter to/from Chloe copied?

>>4431802
We thought it wasn't in character until she put on a human puppet show with a cheshire cat grin on her face after reading her lover isn't fully a real boy and engaging in blood rituals with our book. Everything went out the window for what we can expect from Chloe after that.
>>
>>4431804
>>4431802
And If it's out of character for Chloe, it's still in character to get manipulated or tricked into something so that it can be revealed later into the story/series that she was being a patsy all along. Or for a person "protecting" her to go 110% chunni and be her ally of darkness to protect her light.
There's always the option of said 3rd party manipulator/protector being the one breaking in during the same night and disabling most of the traps for Chloe to "luckily" not have to deal with when she does her own break in, but I'm going with our dislike of Chloe clouding judgement on that so it's not coming up from me in any votes right now.
Anything/anyone that helps her is good in Chloemind so far.

I'm personally guessing the demon papers tried putting on a more friendly face for Chloe since they failed with us.

“Well then, it sounds like we will be going on a recruitment drive doesn’t it?” Maria declared with a sinister smile written on her face.

“You want to… shit.”

“Fufu, what are you not man enough to face down some of you downtrodden kin?”

The man shook his head at Maria’s remark, “No, just fighting men who are actually prepared for a fight is much harder than stealing mail from lone merchants.”

“Well how about this.” Maria said while standing up, “By Thursday, I want a report on the local bandits. From there, I will choose your target.”

“Alright, I’ll see what I can do. But don’t be expecting so much in that amount of time.”

“Understood.” Maria answered while making her way out the door, “I sincerely hope that you all perform well in the upcoming fight. Remember, the more men you have under you the more man power and wealth you have.”

And with that Maria left. She did receive a couple of letters on her way out, but noticing one was from her Father Maria decided to leave off reading them until she got to her room. She should atleast give them that kind of respect.

As she returned to the Academy, after what was an hour’s walk, that something happened Maria was not expecting. As Maria began to transverse the halls a small golden bird darted infront of her with devilish speed. There was a feeling in Maria’s gut, and she was for sure annoyed at who was the one coming up to her.

“Miss Regnia, we need to talk.” Chloe said finally stopping. It was honestly kind of funny seeing her determined like that.

“Ah, Chloe, so nice to see you again. Why you had quite the night last night didn’t you?” Maria asked while turning her attention to the smaller girl, “Is this matter you have suddenly found yourself in really need me?”

“The book.”

“Excuse me?”

“That large book, the one you placed a razor in. What do you know about it!” Much to Maria’s suprise, Chloe’s mostly cheerful demeanor was gone. Instead she was willful, but also given what Maria tasted as Paranoia. However Maria noticed she instinctively grabbed her hand.

“Hmm, so that was your blood in there. Does this mean you are willingly admitting that you broke into my room?”

“That book had Lucien’s name in it, along with yours. What do you know about it?”

Maria could only click her tongue, as it seemed Chloe was determined to get the answers she was looking for. She was strong headed enough to resist Maria’s little plays at subterfuge, and would likely not leave her lest she either give her an answer, or deny her entirely.

So tell me, what do you have to offer for the information you demand?

I see no reason to promise her anything extra unless she gives something extra, but if we can trick her into revealing what she saw we might get something useful. If she complains about the one-sidedness after we reveal we knew almost nothing we can offer her a new tidbit about how her blood is probably the only one that works on it to get a bonus favor from her.
I'd like to think she isn't dumb/desperate enough to try blackmail with the bottle since her breaking in proves she can plant evidence but who knows. Should be easy enough to royal demeanor our way out of her offering that by insinuating she isn't crafty enough to frame us properly.

You seem to be mistaking has a sapient flying drone combined with plot armour with spy mastermind. It seems there was no point though since Chloe's plot bullshit goes out of its way to bother us.

>>4432147
So something like
>I know you and your friends are trying to frame me, drop your silly little case?
No reason to admit we did something when she and her friends are basically framing us in the first place.
We probably need a decently reputable third party arbitrator involved to prevent Chloe from going back on her word after we say what we know.
What about Matheo since he's roughly the spycraft guy in Elric's faction and having an extra witness to her confession of guilt that isn't a love interest helps us?
>>
>>4432077
Why don't we give her a time and place so our people and her people are present at the same time.

into it that would be great,

We definitely shouldn't outright admit we had something to do with it, just that Chloe stops with her wildly inaccurate theory that we had something to do with the whole mess.

Also if we're telling her about the alchemist don't mention the whole isekai soul implantation shit, maybe say that the alchemist did some medical magic/healing that might have let Lucien and Maria survive being born when they both really shouldn't have. Lucien was the crown prince, it would make sense that the adults in the life would go to desperate measures to try to heal him.

“Oh, so that is what you want? And you expect me to just give it to you without any compensation?” Maria taunted with a sinister smile about herself, “Are you aware that as of last night you just broke into my room?”

“I…” The girl looked up to Maria with stary eyes, obvious in that they were indecisive.

“You are a foolish little girl, though that does not mean you have nothing that could placate me.” Maria flushed her hands through her hair, “Simply drop this investigation that you have been carrying and I will give it.”

[Conversation Failed]

“I-I can’t do that! I can’t let an innocent man be excommunicated!”

“Says the girl who committed breaking and entering.” Maria flaunted with a growing frown, “There was a saying I learned, ‘The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions’. What you have committed would be a good enough stance for your execution.”

“Y-you couldn’t do that! Thats Barbaric!”

“Hmph, you are right there. You are the Lover of the most powerful man in the Academy. As for myself, while innocent of all charges, if you had Lucien exercise his authority I might be sent home.” Maria mused to herself for a little bit, “Oh, but that will not be the end of me. No Chloe I have plans just in case.”

“You are… just as Waltz said.”

“Yes he was the first person I had a tussle with here at the Academy. If you were to listen to anyone atleast take his. He is not very innocent himself though, so if you want to keep yours take all his suggestions with a grain of salt.”

Maria soon turned away and began walking down the hallway while looking at the bird who stood down, “And Chloe, make sure you keep your bird in a cage. I heard my maid was attacked by a flock of them, and am looking for maybe a kitten to hunt them down.”

So Maria started making her stride forward, satisfied with the result. However something off happened in the next moment that Maria was not expecting.

“W-why do you keep calling me by my first name?”

Do you have anything else to say Ms Loveheart? Perhaps another demand? You are going to do a wonderful job of upholding the standard of a ruler demanding everything of people as if their existence means they are your personal servants. Your citizens will never run out of things to say behind your back when they think you can't hear them at this rate.

Might as well get in a jab about how she expects us to bend over and do whatever the hell she demands at all times and when we don't she casts us as some great evil.

Maria could only click her tongue at that, noting that this entire time she had been mistaking in her words to Ms. Loveheart. Indeed this was a modestly rough spot if not for the fact Maria was already on her way out.

However Maria could easily keep her composure.

“Hmm, did you say anything Miss. Loveheart? Perhaps you have another demand or something equally as outrageous? Well then you will do a wonderful job as Queen, as people will never run out of things to say about you behind your back.” Maria called out with a sinister smile about herself, “Ohohoho!”

And with that Maria left Chloe, well Miss. Loveheart now. Indeed it will be troublesome to keep up with the name change, but both Maria and the Narrator will try their best.

And like that morning came, Maria surely prepared for the worst to come. Though now that she thought about it, it was odd that Miss. Loveheart came to her without any of her posse. Oh well, Maria did not really care and instead rose from the bed.

“Oh Mistress! Your meal for the morning!” Melody quickly said while placing a simple bread, sausage, and tea on Maria’s desk.

“Thank you Melody. Though where exactly do you get it, since as far as I know most students would need to report to the cafeteria.”

“Its a Secret~”

“You just befriended the Chef didn’t you.”

“Well, he is a nice man who give me extra portions.”

Maria simply shook her head before going to her desk to have the early meal.

Might be the last time in a bit if Loveheart somehow makes a good enough (false) case. I never thought about it much before, but she can't possibly be our only enemy in the school. Local first prince factions are probably in a panic over this entire school term.
You forgot to have us read our father's letter, or we forgot since Loveheart won't leave us alone, or Loveheart stole it while we weren't looking.

>>4432963
Well I mean, half the villainy stuff is in Loveheart's own head rather than being based on even circumstantial evidence. She's probably imagining the drills in our heart as we speak.

>>4432909
Like we'd ever insult our father like that.

Can we start blessing the tea we make for the group? If we're lucky we can use it's evil warding properties so that our friends actually notices the next IRL cutscene.

It does have a drawback of evil magicians being ready to steal it for their own magical spells but I don't think we'd know about that in character unless we were told about it. We might notice it getting locked up for after school tutoring?

Alright, Bon time.
>>
Classes came and went, Maria barely needing to pay attention to her Military Class as of late. Indeed many of the things they were reviewing should have been new, but thanks to Maria’s experience and knowledge she had gone much further into the field than anyone else in this place.

It was something that surely would make her Father proud.

Soon lunch had come, and quickly did Maria travel away from there and towards a more lonesome part of the Library. The Priests honestly did not mind Students bringing food in there, as long as it was not something like greasy pork and the like. Ontop of that the simple fact that being quite was more of an assumption than an enforcement and you would get quite the quiet spot to go eating some lunch.

Soon enough Maria confirmed her suspicions and followed up by traveling to her brother and possible lover.

“Is this book really that good?” Bon asked the girl who sat across from him.

“Well yes, the age is what makes it an even better tale.” Fein Kers announced while eagerly looking at her booklet, “The story of Lexious the Conquer is The legend. Why I hear about him from the north, and I rarely hear anything from up there!”

“Then I will give it a read.” Bon answered before finally noticing his sister coming forward, “Oh Maria! I did not see you there.”

Maria, who had simply been listening into their conversation flashed an innocent smile, “Oh I only just arrived here. I can see you and Kers are getting along modestly well.”

“You should have introduced us sooner!” Kers announced while bringing Maria’s brother into a hug, “You have such a lovely and smart brother. He’s yet to try and throw books at me for being an annoyance!”

Said Brother looked to be struggling against the maiden’s grip. Indeed if the rumors are true than Fein Kers is probably one of the highest specimens of mankind. Well, unless they are augmented by the blood of Gods or power of Demons that is.

“So are you two ready for exams then? They are coming up in a few weeks if I understand.”

“Fufu, don’t worry about that. I will make sure your brother here does not fail again on his Economics Exam.”

“Guh, why did you tell her that!”

“Please take good care of him then Kers.”

“Maria!!”

With that everyone gave a small laugh all about, all at the expense of Bon. However as she thought about it Maria decided to ask another question.

“So what are you two planning to do for Winter Break?”

“...”

“Huh, it is almost winter isn’t it.” Bon replied without much issue.

They've known each other for only a few days. No need to rush the two little lovebirds.
>>4433581
Did we read daddy's letter off panel?I kinda wanted to write back a letter while we're at the library a little, but I have no idea where it is or if that bird secretly snatched it from us while we were distracted by Chloe.
>Are there any books on how to read your written language? I'm a little curious about what your poetry sounded like.

“Seems you two have lost track of time it seems.” Maria mused with a smile, “Fein, how about you take Bon north to see your relatives?”

“To the North? But its so cold and desolate up there. Not much to do either, since the only books we can get our hands on is the local chronicle.”

“You are not looking at this right.” Maria said while leaning down to Kers’s ear though did not bother to hide her suggestion, “You can take him to go see your relatives, and I am sure hijinks will ensue.”

“M-Maria come on, things are not like that.” Bon complained.

However the girl Maria was talking to seemed to stop thinking for a moment, surely processing what Maria whispered. Though within only a few moments, much to Bon’s worry, that her face turned into one of the happiest smirks Maria had ever seen on the girl.

“That is a fabulous idea! Yes yes I will take him there kicking and screaming!” Though the swirling in Fein’s eyes soon dwindled as she gave a second laugh, “Just joking, though I am sure my Father would love to meet you Bon.”

“I…” Bon seemed to stop for a moment in thought, “Yeah I guess it would not be that bad. Normally I would go south to the Imperial Capital, but well…”

“Well you don’t need those idiots anyways!” Fein announced with a dumb smile about her face, “You’re mine now.”

“Well, not yet.”

Maria simply shook her head, “Fein, I give you my apologies about my brother.”

And with that Maria left, the two giving a minor bickering at whether they were lovers or not. Though it seemed to be lighthearted, Maria could never really shake the feeling she probably set her brother on a path of questionable love.

Well atleast Fein will be sure to kill anyone who gets close to him.

Though it was about to be over for lunch, which meant the greatest trial of all was going to come up for Maria. After classes, she was going to head to the Head Mater to make sure her schemes are fully realized.

“Are you sure that you want me to come with you, Mistress?” Melody asked while staying a few steps behind Maria, “I am but a simple Maid, I cannot help you at facing the First Prince!”

“No you can, have a little bit more faith in yourself Melody.” Maria said as they passed the pictures of Saints, “You are one of my most precious piece of evidence to use against them.”

“A-alright. I will try and make you proud then Mistress!” Melody announced while puffing out her chest.

“I am sure you will.” Maria answered with a smile.

Soon they arrived near the front door of the Head Master’s office, at the same time as Chloe and Lucien it seems. Chloe was making a face of determination, as if she was ready to place everything on the line to succeed at this event. As for Lucien, a thousand yard stare was all she got.

Maria could not hold her nagging anger in, “Is there anything you need Ms. Loveheart? You know there is no walking back if you continue with this.”

“I know that.”

“No rebuttal?”

“As I understand it, your fate is not in my hands anymore Miss Regnia.”

“Then it will be up to the Lord’s, won’t it?”

And with that the doors were opened, the Headmaster sitting at the desk. However the man was not alone, as instead two other men wearing the same red cord were sitting next to him. It seems this little case has brought on a little bit more attention than Maria expected.

“Take your seats, the four of you.” He announced with a pull of authority, “You might have noticed these fine fellows around me. They are Cardinal Robin and Rohskair. I have asked them to come because otherwise an Inquisitor would come to this school. I do not want the Inquisition to come to a school where the young impressionable minds of our next leaders are taught.”

[Intrigue Success]

Indeed everything was true as to what the Headmaster said, but somethings were missing. Like who were these men, and what was their relation to the case at hand? Political weight might have been thrown around as of late, or atleast that is what Maria thinks.

We should probably wait with this until we can adapt it to anything Chloe says.

>-Open with Melody’s trauma from the Birds
>Seems a weak opening statement, but it brings across Chloe's supernatural powers.

Probably what really threw us off.
Also the goal of this is to get her to admit to breaking into our room first.
Then get her to reveal information about the book that she could not know without getting blood on it. Finally about the trapping we had set due to the incident with the jester.

The blade in the book was not a trap, but us trying to figure out how to get more out of the book.
>>
>>4434570
Then again, there may be a truth charm in play we are not aware of. Best keep things close to the chest and aim for her to trip up.
>>
>>4434570
Supporting these. Remember, when we present the papers to the Headmaster after the Inquisition of Baron Vosk, we presented those paper that may have been used for "heretical purposes." We may use it to our advantage or not bring it up and speak it only for the cardinal ears only. That possibly, Chloe Loveheart who had a gall to do some blood rituals inside our room and can read the heretical hidden text that we hid inside our cabinet could speak for itself.

We just hope that there wouldn't be an inquisition....or at least the inquisition is in our favor.
>>
>>4434496
>Open with Melody’s trauma from the Birds
>>
>>4434618
It might be in our interest not to focus too hard on her. In fact a third party may be involved. Perhaps the joker.

Also if we explain our traps, they best fit our situation. Explaining as joker requires a timetable to order melody and not be spotted. Otherwise it's to protect information and research regarding our book.
>>
>>4434496
I'm not really sure how we're supposed to be participating in this. I thought we were here as an observer and then when Chloe tries to accuse us, we Phoenix Wright the shit out of her.
Otherwise we're just hijacking Oskar's trial for a seperate one right out of the gate.
So with all of that in mind.
>Testify as to how we caught the pair in question fornicating in the woods.
>>
>>4434711
I should probably have made a note to include the whole story like the fact that her bird was glowing and there was nothing but sheer hatred in Lucien's eyes. Seeing that made us realize that the combination of Ford's slander and his love of Chloe could motivate him to get some sort of petty revenge on us.

>>4434574
That's why I personally say focus on what actually happened.
Chloe should be the one to veer it off course, we then put those dots we've been connecting on the table to warrant a closer investigation of wtf's going on around Chloe with her heresy radiating birds instead.

Well my excuse for why we didn't mention anything sooner is we don't know if it's something manipulating events around her or if she's involved, so technically she's not in hot water because anyone who listens can think Chloe is being manipulated instead of a mastermind since if she is one, she's an awfully good actress.
Whatever the pagan conspiracy is, it needs to not stray too hard from the original path of fate (maybe while also leaving Oskar in power?) so that they can intervene at the correct time. It's difficult to stick to the original for something when a random wildcard shows up and ruins your setup unless you force things back into place.
>>
>>4434789
>>4434796
I think I might be coming up with something.

Demon's only glean part of the future, not the whole thing.
The looked up the future where our body didn't have a proper soul at first.(Anytime before the first post since Valor had to come back and fix our soul still)
Then they looked up a new prophecy later and failed to notice we have a real soul and could throw wrenches in their prophecies.
So they were sticking to the original plan where we're easy to manipulate because we'd be just like Lucien while not knowing that plan is entirely flawed now. That's why that jester was talking about how we're spiteful. It's still going off of what we were originally supposed to be like.
Oskar getting in trouble somehow throws off their plan despite it having no bearing on the future of Chloe and Lucien that they're focusing on. That might narrow down the possible origin or stronghold of the heretical beings as Holand? They can't afford holy armies of the lord coming down and stumbling upon their nest while they're engaging in human sacrifices to manipulate everyone around the first prince faction?
Since they've now figured out we wont work according to their plan after we've resisted urges to randomly bully Chloe (that in retrospect were demonic temptations trying to take us over) they're trying to get rid of us before we ruin everything by being immune to their foul magicks?

With everyone seated the man gave a nod to himself as if in satisfaction before turning towards Maria, “Now as we are all seated, may I ask why you are here Kingslayer? This is a case about Oskar of Holand, in which it was said he was manipulated into sinning.”

“Is it not just for the defendant to be at their trial,” Maria could not help but take up the opportunity, “After all, these folks were the ones who broke into my room.”

There was a sharp all around Maria as Maria settled her accusation on the forefront. Indeed they were surely expecting it, as it was more true than any other statement. The interest of the tribunal of course was taken by this simple accusation.

“Is this true, Miss Loveheart. Did you truly enter a girl’s room without even the slightest bit of permission?”

The two love birds looked at one another, with Lucien giving her a simple nod. With a small huff she began, “We did, but that was because she was the one who poisoned Oskar!”

And like that she just admitted to it outright. Damn that was something Maria was not expecting. Either she was being really, really dumb or she was confident in the evidence that she gathered. Maria was really betting that it was the former of the two however.

Soon enough though the Headmaster shook his head out of the stupor he was put in, “You went into someone’s room, without any form of permission.”

“She had mine!” Lucien quickly said without a hint of irony in his voice and rising from his chair, “I have been given permission by my Father to act under his Authority as Crown Prince. If it is to root out a criminal from the Empire, then it was just.”

Maria quickly spited him, “Just!? I am an forign noble, I hold no obligations under your Father Lucien!”

“But the land that you use is!”

“Then explain the fact that Ms. Loveheart’s bird attacked me!”

“Silence you two!” the man quickly announced with a voice of dominion above everyone there, “Do you three realize that such a matter which you have brought forth can endanger the balance of powers themselves!”

“Indeed”, Maria followed up the Headmaster with an affirmation, “Again, as I mentioned a moment ago you sent a swarm of birds to attack my maid in the halls.”

The Headmaster looked over to the girl who was out of her comfort as if asking if that claim was true. Maria simply gave him a nod while trying her best to keep as small as possible.”

“That is Hearsay!” Lucien quickly countered, “How can we control birds, neither of us are gifted in neither the Magics of the Lord or sorcery.”
>>
>>4434982
Seemed a bit confusing since the trial of Oskar is suddenly being treated as a trial of us (Did Chloe send stuff to the headmaster ahead of time and the purpose of the trial changed?) before it's actually changed course.

The judges in this trial are going to be confused as fuck at it turning into two teenage girls bickering at each other then suddenly HERESY AND BLOOD RITUALS.
The bird isn't here. I'm hoping that means it can't stand against the holy might of the headmaster and 2 Cardinals without being caught.
>>
“I-It did happen while I was standing guard, waiting for my Mistress to return.” Melody answered shyly, “There must have been a dozen of them all throwing whatever they could at my from their dreadful beaks.”

It seemed everyone there was simply taken aback, somehow Melody giving the most believable event yet. Indeed magic was real in this world, so when accusing someone of some kind of sorcery was likely to carry much more weight than the skeptics of the Modern Day.

“I do not know what she is talking about.” Loveheart admitted before taking out a bottle from her bag, “But here is the item she used to poison Oskar with!”

And like that, more questions were going to be asked.

>Simply do not incriminate oneself
>Deny that Maria even has potions
>Admit to the potions, but not the poisoning
>Try her best to get this entire mess thrown out due to possible wars.
>>
>>4434998
>Simply do not incriminate oneself
It’s not like we’re the only person here who got into alchemy and anyway how she expects a tea bottle to be proof of anything, specially when she had time to temper with it
>>
>>4434998
>>Simply do not incriminate oneself
>>
>>4434998
Well since we didn't even remove the potions from our room and we need the potions manual for later evidence against Chloe if she pushes us that far (The fact that Chloe's blood is the key seals things in our favor as a last trump card) I don't think denying it is in our best interest.
>Why don't you describe how you got that Ms Loveheart?
>Melody testifies about us putting myriad traps in our room because we were expecting a foolish intruder to try and frame us after the slander and hatred we've seen from Lucien's faction. The bottle was merely a test to see if they would bring it to this trial or for some other nefarious purpose as we are not sure if she is the master of those sorceries or their puppet. For now she has passed and she is a mere puppet in this charade.
Now we get to see if Chloe breaks out the book evidence. Or we have to have a priest or nun fetch her blue dress.
>>
>>4434998
>>4435010
Supporting. That's basically what I planned, but the thing with her blood being the key for the book is a brilliant addition for later.
>>
>>4434998
We simply just break down that first: her use of evidence is atrocious and we are more than willing to teach her in the future;
She cannot prove that's ours, let alone that she did not tamper with it.
Second: for the sake of truth coming out, that bottle is ours, meaning that she stole it from our room without notice. Perhaps she did get Lucien's permission, but why not get additional go ahead from the headmaster, as any investigator with ahead would. All our investigations and actions always kept the headmaster in the loop. Let alone if not the headmaster, then us. Even then, you would go in the front door with notice and guard to ensure no tampering. Our room was clearly snuck in and out of. If that wasn't the case, then others would have noticed or been notified. Our maid certainly wasn't notified, implying lucien is pulling rank post offense to cover it. If that is not the case, then is that the way his empire handles cases? Without due process or justice? Just let people in without supervising parties? We don't doubt lovehart had good intentions, but theres a whole bunch of problems that come with that. Let alone our own sensitive studies we have been conducting.

Thirdly: given that this bottle is ours, and there is no poison within it, what is the proof being exhibited? What do they assume he was poisoned with. Given that poisoning, how does that account for the situation that occurred? How would that poisoning differ from the more likely influence of alcohol and poor tolerance. Plus slightly looser morales by virtue of Oskar literally being heard in public trivializing the church to an extent.

Fourthly: we admit to studying to expand our capabilities and learn more about our own situation, to which the church knows to an extent (still true). Get chloe to speak about the book, catch her on not getting cut or that the blood is from another. Let alone the fact that there was man ensuring potions reached someone specific. Can probably get a person not associated with us to talk about the feelings playing that game after we get lucien to explain how it felt for him.

Overall it may be better to turn aim on a possible third influence if there's any, but that Oskar likely was responsible for his actions despite those pieces acting against him? At the very least we do not claim to using a poison to make him have sex. (Truth, we didnt expect anything). At most we are only guilty of reporting him because we were on a date and it was ruined by coming across them. We weren't even aware who they were at first (also true, just happened hear forest sex noises)

Yes, we should focus on her needing to prove we had said potion and poisoning Oskar and like >>4435047 said we could use the fact that she didn't even inform the headmaster abou her "investigation" as further proof she wanted to save Oskar anyway she could, even by fabricating evidence
>>
>>4435050
Yeah, and now we try to make the evidence of hers useless. One way of doing that is calling attention on the fact that they found exactly what we wanted them to find.

Though yours is better even if it lacks the gloating of being one step ahead, so..

>>4434998
Switching from >>4435017 to >>4435047
>>
>>4435050
Technically not. She just said that it's a potion. She could lie and claim she got it from the kitchen or something since she didn't notice the ink on her dress even if that's unlikely. I mean if we get found guilty, then she'd get a slap on the wrist at best for vanquishing evil.
>>

>>

Chloe will dig her own grave once she figures out the bottle is filled with tea.

If anyone asks why the fuck we booby trapped the room / filled a bottle with tea pass it off as 'quirks' developed after being held political prisoner for all those years.

Remember so far we've acted a being a neutral party who was dragged into this mess - tearing into Chloe two hard might get people suspicious that we're more invested than we let on. If we do rebute I'll support something along the lines of >>4435139
>>
>>4435187
indeed, brother
>>
>>4435187
We figured out they might try to frame us, that's more than enough motive to get invested.

We have:
Our spat with Ford slandering us.
Lucien looking at us with absolute hatred when we reported to the guards.
And Chloe not wanting to talk around us about the case
All of that adds up together as them arbitrarily deciding we were a suspect and working from there or even some unscrupulous member of the first prince faction (As a whole, not just the core group) framing us to eliminate a threat.

Your excuse about us being at the Miaphate gives us an extra valid excuse for our genre savvy kicking in.
It even gives us a chance to ohohoho at her thinking such a petty scheme would work on us.
>>
>>4435237
If we shut up and let Chloe do the talking she looks like she'll give us more than enough rope to hang herself with.

What we don't want is Maria dragging Chloe through the mud so much that the other two people with the headmaster get curious as to why Maria's so invested in this. Because our connection to Oskar territory is obvious so ofc we'd benefit from him being disinherited, and with what Chloe's throwing at us it'll be very easy for the tablets to turn. Plus Chloe has otome plot armor too.
>>
>>4434998
>Simply do not incriminate oneself
>>
>>4435264
That's kinda my plan. I just plan to get herself dug really deep. A fake potion just proves to her we outsmarted her. Revealing that there are unseelie creatures manipulating the first prince and everyone around her because he is an easy target gives us long term convenient excuse for being so standoffish in her eyes. We have no interest in being pulled into eldritch schemes so we were hostile. Especially not when they seem to be so intent on putting us against each other that they'll start handing out luck potions like candy. The problem is figuring out how she'll plot armour bullshit her way out of this.
At this point I think it's ok if Oskar goes free from her proving him innocent, because we can argue later when Chloe isn't around that the reason the joker interfered is because there must be heretical goings on in Holand they did not want invading orthodox nations to notice.
Might also be nice to reveal that Chloe's bird literally glows in the dark to us by accident. (Out of character we know it might be a sixth sense, but in character we think everyone can notice that it's fucking weird) Then when they examine it and find it's a heretical bird it gives us credence to any of the other weird shit going on that we've noticed.
>>
>>4435297
We can’t really prove cultist influence but there’s things we can do to dig her, yes
>>
>>4435237
Guy, you can't be framed for something that you did.
>>
>>4435359
It's how we present our case. Less annoying than always specifying that we only pretend not to have done it.
>>
>>4435359
Also if we convince even ourselves that we are innocent then we definitely good enough at lying that we can even trick truth spells.
>>
>>4435359
Their entire case is based on the arbitrary idea that we're guilty because they decided we are without evidence. They've technically been framing us the entire time until they found the false evidence and even then the inventory list we graciously left out would have proved we didn't do it since they fell for the tea. This is absolutely a framing, they merely stumbled into the right answer.
>>
>>4435309
Demonic Cultist influence? Sure. But her having a spirit bird possibly controlling Chloe (and the people around her) to have an extra interest in proving Oskar innocent and mysterious sorcerer's coming in to try and take the heat off of Oskar? Easy to say that there's something being hidden by pagans when his kingdom is known to barely be affiliated with the church and there are enough factions more than willing to take the go ahead on that knowledge to invade while they plunge the area into a free for all.
We don't have to prove anything here anymore other than a few choice revelations from this trial that the Teutonic order can take as reason to investigate for mass heresy and get what they want.

Everyone in the room looked closely at the item, as if wondering how in the world an item like this is was going to relate to the mock trial at hand. OF course it was not obvious, as the glass bottle only held a brownish liquid.

“Why would you bring a bottle before us?”

“Because this was one of her collection. When we were in there, there were several vials just like this one laying on her desk each labled with some kind of weird name.” Loveheart finished while placing the bottle on the desk.

The Headmaster picked up the bottle to look at for a moment, “Kinglsayer, what exactly is inside of this bottle?”

“That bottle? It's just some black tea I whipped up after using the potion for myself.” Maria answered with a wave of her hand, “I will admit I have a variety of potions, but I have been learning it on the side as a hobby.”

“As a hobby? Hmm…” The Headmaster’s eyes narrowed a small bit, “You must realize Loveheart that this is only circumstantial evidence at most. The Kingslayer is Devote to the Lord himself, even experiencing a miracle in her execution of heretics. What else could you bring that would cause us to doubt her?”

[Royal Demeanor Success]

The two lovers looked at one another, before Lucien reached back and brought out a piece of armor Maria was not hoping to see again. It was the helmet, but Maria did not even falter as she saw it. It was to her luck too that Melody was able to hold herself as well.

“You see, the day after Oskar was poisoned we saw a black night leaving the establishment we were in the night before. As he left, the owner had quickly closed his store and refused to open the doors to even Lucien.”

Maria’s eyes narrowed, “And what makes you think this is my set of armor.”

The girl next to her seemed to draw in a breath before reaching in and removing a long strand of Purple Hair.

“As far as I and Lucien know, the only people who have Purple Hair on the Campus was the Regnia Family. And since Bon Regnia does not possess long hair, that can only mean this piece of armor belongs to Miss Regnia here.”

Shit.

Dont accuse her of planting evidence.
Even if we're somehow the only person on campus with that hair, it doesn't mean we did it.

We can also claim either that we lost that suit of armor or that the hair isn't ours or that we did our own investigation of something unrelated.

We stashed the armor where others couldn't find it, but lost track of it. By virtue of our background, we had used it to do some scouting before.

We have used the armor before, and that we had looked for someone who was possibly stalking a student regarding certain situations.

Regardless, even that presence is circumstantial.

I'm going with pointing out that power imbalance and Chloe's stubbornness. Despite being born from a mistress she really doesn't seem to understand the word no when it's told to her demands and that should be utterly terrifying from the perspective of anyone under her and the prince.
>What's that you say? A peasant closed up in terror of nobles asking accusatory questions of them after a major incident? Ms Loveheart, you are from humble beginnings, surely you know what fate awaits that of a commoner who arouses the ire of powerful nobility looking for people to blame whether or not they are innocent? I applaud the shop owner's survival instincts.
It could even have been your bird snatching up evidence for you! It glows in the dark, am I supposed to think that it's normal?
Chloe really doesn't figure that we can take down the entire first prince faction down with us?

You also seem to have somehow stole a helmet from a knight you had no other reason to suspect other than them leaving when a shop was closing without seeing the face underneath. How did you manage that?

Let's see them explain going together into a brothel.

Gonna save the book for a tiny little bit longer to go as a double whammy about the bird being some sort of pagan magic thing. If we get backed in early we can point out that it was obvious they were intent on framing us so we had to do our own investigation that we can't reveal to her but we can say to the cardinal due to its seriousness. (Aka the bird being some magic pagan thing that may have mind control abilities)

That was because we and OP forgot we shipped the armor and thought we had scattered it throughout the campus, so let’s just go with our mailmen dropped it and luck potion ensued
>>
>>4435669
Simply saying we have no clue how our hair ended up in there is more than enough. Still heavily circumstantial. Currently they're saying we poisoned him cuz we have a bottle and an armor the day after had hair. At best they may tenuously say we were there, not that we dosed anybody with anything.
>>
>>4435709
Also: the luck potion may have accidentally bent things in their favor, even if its untrue. They should consider if their goal is getting us because they think we did it or if the evidence pointed to us. Again, they never approached the headmaster at any time leading up.

Maria took another moment to look at the helm that was sitting in Loveheart’s lap, her eyes more or less wanting to burn the damn piece of equipment away. Indeed she wondered just why in the world was it here of all places. Did she miss the damn thing, or was there something else happening here!?

[Military Success]

“Wait a moment.” Maria quickly called out while extending her hand towards the helm, “Hand it over to me.”

“What?”

“I said hand it over, for that helm cannot even fit me.”

Before the Budala could say anything the words against to it the Headmaster spoke up, “I allow it. For what if she cannot even wear the piece of armor would it truly be hers?”

Somehow he had caught on, which Maria simply received the helmet to confirm her suspicions. Indeed the moment she tried placing it on her head, well the thing itself was too small to even fasten the straps. Yeah Maria knew she was looking dumb, but the look of complete suprise was written on their faces was enough to satisfy Maria for a century.

“Ohohoho!” Maria announced while throwing off the helm, “It seems to have been a fake. I do not want to know where did you get my hair from, but to bring before three Cardinals!”

“I-Impossible! It was the-” Chloe was about to freak out even more, but Lucien placed a hand on her shoulder.

With his lover calmed Lucien turned towards the Tribunal, “That was our just mistake. We were told it was found hidden within the Servant’s Quarters, but it seems that it might have been a plant by someone else.”

“Alright, is that all your evidence!” Maria announced with a winning smile, “Headmaster, Cardinals of the Church, can I ask that you follow through with your decision.”

“Hmm, indeed all the evidence brought was circumstantial. Including that, you two have broken into the Kingslayers room, and as such you should-”

“No! You can’t let her go!” Chloe announced, “She actually did it I swear! I-I-”

“Be quite. You have already wasted a good amount of our time. Slandering another is quite the sinful act, you shall receive punishment.”

“No, please no! I will not allow her to leave after the misery that she has caused!” Quickly she ensnared the potion bottle before anyone could stop her, “Please of please, help me show everyone here what I see!”

[Faith Success]

And like that a small flash came upon the room, Maria barely able to watch as the potion bottle within Chloe’s hands began to change. Of all the things it started to become, however, was that the bottle slowly gained a rather familiar pinkish glow to itself.

Surrounding Maria was the feeling of a miracle, almost the same kind that she felt when the Lord healed her arm. But it was different, somehow Maria knew it was different!

We already knew what a miracle of our nation feels like. We could plant something that possibly Loveheart, is in leagues with Oskar to save his own person in exchange for something. But let's not use that since we don't implicate someone when we don't have evidence.

>Look around for that bird (maybe even try to sense it?) I'm assuming a window is nearby and it needs line of sight maybe?
We usually only get be extra mean to Chloe options when that thing is reasonably nearby. It must be outside a window or something.
If we're lucky we can even point it out to the headmaster.
Loveheart's bird is outside. When remarking on how unnatural a glowing bird was I was informed it sounded like some sort of pagan being a short while ago that was abandoned in favor of the Lord with little information other than that. I have been trying to figure out who or what it's master is or even if it is the master.

This miracle feels similar to when my arm was healed but ever so subtly different. The little thing is certainly clever and skilled to manage such deception.

>Believing the worst in someone does not make it true. I certainly have had a few concerns about you I will be sharing with our headmaster, but I also suspect that there are other forces attempting to pit you against me. Do not continue to fall for such silly tricks. I hope you never needed them in the first place.

Acting too violently will raise suspicion.

Since we said we used the potion on us before refilling the bottle, we can say it what was in the bottle was actually the liquor of restfullness if pushed. Reason for us needing it? Our trauma from being held political prisoner leaving scars. That way if/when the potion turns out to be something else we can accuse Chloe of playing tricks. Also don't let on we recognise what the other potion is.

Ofc we're accusing this bitch of heresey as well. If the other men havent sensed it then point it out that to them.

Accusing Chloe of heresy sounds like overstepping our bounds, playing into demon hands via still managing to take out at least one saint, and begging for plot armour to absolutely destroy us. She still should be a legitimate saint and getting rid of her is bad in the long term no matter how annoying she is.
If she's not a real saint we lose the chance to try and figure out what heretical plot is behind her before they do it again.

No matter what Maria would think of this, there was no reason for her to outwardly attack. Her eyes checked from left to right as looking for the damn bird, but she could not catch sight of any of it. Whatever was happen was either Loveheart’s doing, or that of the Lord himself!

So Maria watched, the glass quickly emptying before becoming refilled with a greenish liquid. It only took her a moment to realize it was Ecstasy, the potion that was to give the person the greatest high in their life.

And like that, the glow was gone to reveal a room full of wide eyes. The men began to mumble with eachother, though the one who was most confused was the Headmaster himself.

“W-what?” Loveheart said as she gingerly brought the potion to her face, “I-it was not like this before.”

Those words seemed to snap the men out of her their little chatter before the Headmaster extended his hand, “Miss Loveheart, hand over the potion will you?”

She did as told, handing over the bottle full of green liquid. He studied the bottle for a moment before placing it on the table, “Kingslayer, what exactly is in this bottle.”

“Its, well uh, Ecstasy.” Maria admitted while trying her best to look embarrassed.

The men spoke together one last time, again confusion clear in their voices. Maria could barely pick up their chatter.

that was a miracle!”

“But what does it mean?”

“That the Kingslayer is guilty?”

“But why would the Lord harm his own potential Saint?”

“You know what needs to be done, this situation requires them.”

With a shaking of his head the Headmaster and Cardinal turned and announced to all before him, “What happened just now is not to leave this room. Due to several issues, we are to delay any ruling. However until then Oskar, Prince of Holand, shall be suspended and sent back to his home.”

He took in a deep breath, “I will get back with you four later. Now leave my room.”

And like that, everyone was unceremoniously kicked out of the room.

If it was mind manipulator or the lust one we'd have been screwed, with ecstasy we can still claim we were using it to self medicate our traumas away.

I kinda want to hunt Soloman down and get him to spill what he knows about the old God connection regarding Chloe, but if Lucien/Waltz have any sense they'd put a tail on us and Melody to see where we'd go next so we're stuck.

Those bastards really went that far to frame us when they couldn't find any real evidence. A normal person would have at least figured

>Also tell/show them about the book so that we have backup witnesses when the inquisitors come.If we get taken down they're getting taken down with us and Elric gets the crown by the default of having a real soul. We should secure it in the prince's room since the little tyrants breaking into there would be treason.
Asking if anyone knows anything about glowing pagan spirit birds might be good too.
Several long term things we need to do here.
We need to secure the book before Chloe and company steal it since it's our evidence against them when the inquisitors come. We didn't reveal it before out of a semblance of respect for Lucien's privacy, but after they went around planting evidence and even calling upon miracles once their evidence was all proved false they can go fuck themselves.

We need to learn about sensing auras or visit some other saint pilgrimage since we need to know if the difference is among individual saints or a result of pagan trickery.

Learn about souls and maybe check library records on whatever Chloe is pulling out if the library system is modern enough. If she's innocent then her protag powers make it easier for her to research the right books.

Learn the real origin of that bird.

Find out who tried to frame us with that helmet and if it was mundane or heretical. Our mailmen can probably backtrack letters to the Quartet for that.

In the small chance that Chloe is a real saint
It's either God telling us to repent or interfering to prevent Chloe from being BTFO since it likes Chloe more,( ?) and two saints killing each other off or Lucien going protestant split when his country is so huge probably isn't in it's best interest.

All we wanted was tea parties and staying away from Chloe with an occasional deus vult. Damn protagonist is forcing our entire school life to be about her.

The two groups looked at one another, the feeling of both genuine confusion and the dire to spite the other already in the air. Now was not the time to be gloating, as someone of authority arguably equal to the Cardinals was coming over to do the investigation. Because what else would you do when someone produced a genuine miracle in front of you.

However such a Miracle was indeed something Maria was not expecting. As simply put, she did not even know what it meant for her future here. Was the really fake, or was it something that the Lord himself produced as a sign that he does not wish Maria to scheme upon her fellow followers?

She just does not know the answer yet! Ugh if she could just figure out what in the world was happening she could just…

“Mistress, are you doing alright?” Melody asked while giving a kinder smile.

“Just, something happened that I did not expect.” She answered giving her maid a shaky smile.

“Well, you do not look terribly good. Hmm, maybe you want to go see Albert?”

“W-what are you saying?”

“Come now, you also seem to lighten up around the boy. And I am sure a little socialization will get you out of this funk~!”

So Maria was quickly dragged towards the library. However Maria herself did not put up resistance, since this was something that she probably really needed right now. Maria was a social butterfly of course, and she was not going to deny that it was nice to do.

Soon enough the door was opened, and Maria walked in with her form more or less cleaned up for everyone to see. Within the room luckily enough was only Elric and Albert, the latter one looking towards Maria with a slightly fearful expression.

“So… how did it go?” He asked with a slightest hesitation.

“Worse than I hoped, but not the worst.” Maria announced while crashing on the nearest couch and taking in a sigh, “An Inquisitor will be coming here soon to open a full investigation into what happened today.”

Albert’s face grew a little skewed while Elric was the one to ask, “Today? What do you mean by that?”

Maria looked the two men in the eyes, “Chloe Loveheart, infront of three Cardinals, produced a Miracle in an attempt to damn me.”

Their looks she saw were at first surprise, then turning to wonder, finally settling of what Maria was sure was unease.

“So, what does that mean?” Albert asked hesitantly.

“I… don’t know.” Maria could not help but admit with a sigh, “I really don’t know.”

>Protect the book from theft by Miss Lockheart.
She was doing blood rituals with the book that she may not realize can only work with her blood when she broke in to find the false bottles I had left to let her make a fool of herself. Albert has seen the page in question before Loveheart got to it. Lucien has decided to use his power for once and done his best to use it as a tyrant

I was respecting your brother's right to privacy but they clearly want me as a sacrificial lamb. I will not abide by that. The revelations should disqualify your brother from crownship in one fell swoop to leave only you. Protect it well for the inquisitors to see for there are multiple sorceries on her side.

I think i've already written far too much. Maybe tomorrow we should send a letter to the mailmen to continue their unofficial duties of investigating for heresies and to also check on anything that sounds like they were responsible for giving false evidence to the prince faction against us. The room was quite for a moment, the sounds of people chatting outside easily coming into their ears as everyone there thought. Thinking of a way to salvage a situation that had already become this dire was surely the goal. They were all connected, in some way, to getting the results in they were aiming for.

“Wish we could talk to the big guy upstairs.” Elric called out with a sigh.

Albert simply shook his head while shrugging, “Even the priests are confused about this all. What can we gleam from the Lord himself?”

Maria heard this chatter for a moment, “To get closer to the Lord… that's it!”

“So you thought of something Maria?” Elric asked with a shit eating grin.

“Yes, the last time I became close enough to the Lord is that I went on a Pilgrimage.” Maria answered while rising from her seat, “So I will go on one again!”

The two men in the room looked at one another, Elric giving a subtle shrug while Albert nodded and spoke, “I guess that is the closest thing we can do. Do you have any locations in mind?”

“Well, last time I went on a Pilgrimage I went to the North a little while ago. Though I will admit, that was only for treatment.” Maria admitted with a sigh herself, “Where else would we be able to go?”

The two pondered for a moment before Elric gave his answer, “Well there is always the Papal Palace.”

Albert gave a nod in agreement, “The City of Ka’lin would probably be a good place to go. Though I do not really know if it's the safest route these days.”

Maria’s brows furrowed, “Ka’lin? What in the Lord’s lands is that?”

“Well, its where the Lord proclaimed to protect our people against the Other Gods all around them.” Albert said without much issue, “There was once a Theocracy back then, however they were forced out by a confederation of Gods with a Demi-God at the head.”

“The city still stands!? I thought it was razed to the ground!?” Maria claimed without care.

“No, I’ve near it once before. Rumor has it you can still find his old relics if you search the nearby mountains.”

“Well, thats really good to know.” Maria admitted while counting her things, “Well, unless we go local none of these will be happening until the coming Winter break. Though…”

The name sounds fine. I was just teasing since I remembered how Italy was misnamed since somebody asked where they were, got told a cow pasture, and mistook that for a country name.

Not really sure about the suggestions. They feel out of place as a whole compared to the rest of the setting which I suppose does work due to them being ancient ruins, but normally there's bleedthrough with local cultures as permutations of the old languages still remain.

“... Albert, I did promise that I would travel with you here this coming Winter. Have you made your decision about that?” Maria asked while leaning towards the young man.

“That, well uh, you know I should have been thinking about that.” Albert admitted while scratching his cheek.

“Hmph, is that so?” Maria gave the man a slight pout to shame him, “Well I am hurt, you know, hurt by being relegated to the side.”

“Come on, give the man a little credit.” Elric bickered with a waving of the hand, “He got you that dress from a few nights ago.”

Maria took a moment of thought before deflating, “Yeah, you’re right. Still, I am bound by my word for the most part.”

With that the eyes were placed on Albert, who seemed to squirm a little while thinking, “I… do not see a problem with it. Though if I need to be honest, Maria, if you need to complete a pilgrimage to atleast make people think of you better than I would suggest you do that.”

“Hmm, and what if I want you to come with me?”

Maria’s trusted friend thought to himself for another moment more, “I live near the Papacy, so I can be with you for that. If its the Miaphate we will pass by my home, just…”

“You do not really know what to expect if you do that, right?”

“Yeah.” Albert answered with a dropping of the head, “While I am sure my Father would care less what I do, I will not get any form of protection that we normally afford for those trips. I can talk to my brother, but he’s pretty hard to get with once he moves on again.”

>Inform Elric about the book, Chloe's blood rituals, etc etc,and that we have concerns about Chloe we need to properly investigate so that we can prove it unlike a pair that will grab false evidence and continue with it even after everything is proven wrong. Have him keep it safe since the break ins and false evidence used proves our room is not safe enough to protect it.

We gotta instill the importance of becoming King into Elric right now.If Chloe is some false saint he NEEDS to step up to become king for the sake of his entire country. If we were wrong, a little extra motivation can't hurt him. He'd be working towards becoming King out of a sense of duty, patriotism/faithfulness(?), and care for his people instead of mere ambition. I'd say it's an improvement to him getting the demeanor of a Great King. It also might make him less easily swayed by Chloe mind controlling him into giving up on the race for the crown.

Assuming Chloe and Lucien weren't lying about not knowing they have access to magic, that means they have magical beings on their side acting independently (like that bird) who will absolutely rob our home of the only physical evidence we have that something is suspect with Chloe.

“Well now is not the time for us to really focus on getting somewhere that will be a few weeks away.” Maria said with while turning towards Elric, “However there is one other thing that you need to keep in mind. You need to get the throne as soon as possible.”

Said boy of course was not expecting a hand pointed towards him, “W-what are you talking about?”

“Do you realize what could happen if your Brother ascends to the throne with a girl like Loveheart at his side?” Maria’s eyes sharpened, “There will be a schism larger than anything we have seen before in this world.”

“A… Schism? What in the world do you mean by that?”

“That the Church will fracture under and shatter under their rule. Think about it, what would happen if a Saint willingly married the King of the Holy Empire which was originally suppose to be elected?”

“It… would be like how the Miaphate rules their people.” Elric answered before his eyes widened just slightly, “Could the state fuse with the Church because of that?”

“That, or maybe the Pope does not like Lucien getting on the throne. So he does not ever liginimize the Emperor. What would happen if a then girl who has performed Miracles came upon his side?” Maria could not help but feel satisfied by her little deduction, “The Church would split taking sides, while the peasantry choose either the Protestants or Orthodox.”

“H-how can you be so sure about that?” Albert asked off to the side, “I mean, we are talking about a Civil War here. Something that hasn’t happened in fifty years.”

“Well then, Albert, I actually have a question for you. How far has the translation of the Holy Book come along?”

“...” He was confused, of course, but did not bicker back and instead thought about it, “Well, I have heard attempts. Most of the time a word for word copy will catch fire upon being finished.”

“And what about ones who might have completely different stories within them?”

“...” Albert rubbed the back of his head still not knowing the full implications of what he was saying, “I heard a made hermit succeeded about a few months ago. He and a few other men have approached my father and many other merchants about making them from the Printing Press.”

“Hmoh, so it has begun.” Maria grimised while biting her lip.

“Well then, Albert, I actually have a question for you. How far has the translation of the Holy Book come along?”

“...” He was confused, of course, but did not bicker back and instead thought about it, “Well, I have heard attempts. Most of the time a word for word copy will catch fire upon being finished.”
Interesting..
Does this mean you can 99% translate and then get something wrong on purpose? Or that having a book set on fire would make you a holy authority on matters?

Does this apply to memorization too since if people did that the retelling of the holy scripture would be passed down orally?
Eg memorize a complete translation of the book and the knowledge sets you a blaze?
Could you make two copies, with specific sections mistranslated so that a person just swap to the other one for correct translations?

What's the religion's stance on dragons? It's probably better than in IRL since this is supposed to be made by a japanese person. We could turn one into a bus for the trip to not Jerusalem.
Has Kers gone back to spying on Chloe for book material? We don't want the project to fizzle out when we have a printing press to sell the world's first modern novel with.

It was the next day that Maria got into working on the galleries of books present here in the Library. When it came down to it, the catalogs of Imperial Law was something that Maria was searching for. Of course, being that the school resided in the Empire it was not very hard to find some forms of documentation.

Page after page she went through, searching through the Precedents set by several coronations and inheritances. She could not help but feel her mind spinning slightly and the letters just seemed to meld with one another. Whenever such things happened, Maria simply had to stop reading lest she missed something important.

“Guh…” She announced while laying her head upon the table, “I got nothing yet.”

“Nothing?” Maria turned to see Fein Kers standing behind her with a tilting of the head, “Come on now, I don’t want to hear that from my Sister-in-Law.”

“So you two finally became lovers?”

“Fufu, he will admit it soon.” She answered before taking a seat at the table, “So what are you up to?”

“Research. Simply put, I need to find some way of removing a possible bad apple from the line of succession.” Maria admitted with a sigh, “Though judging from the looks of things, I can’t think of much now.”

“Is that so? I… can’t help you.” She admitted while sitting down across from Maria, “Up North its pretty simple, if you have the bigger army than you will be the one in charge.”

“With that attitude I find it hard that your family has not taken everything over yet.”

“Meh, we are not in too much of a rush.” She admitted, “I mean, it gets a little cold up there you know.”

“I guess you are right, I am still looking for a way to break out from the frozen mountains.” Maria answered back.

Chloe's blood making secret writings on it kinda helps. The book is also too old for us to fake. It's prime evidence. I think we need to read that letter already and send one back to our father. Since translating the holy book has given us a little peek into the workings of the setting. Have we actually had any classes on translating? The heretical copies are too dangerous (imo) and can easily backfire without the ability to reference the source material.
Freakin inquisitors are coming, why are we so hellbent on options that will bite us in the ass later?
>>
“Anyways.” Maria quickly interrupted herself to prevent the slight feeling of dread that always comes from realizing where her Realms sits, “How is that book coming?”

“My book? Fufufu its coming along really really well!” she announced while drawing out what seemed to be a series of books from nowhere, “Thanks to my new experiences I have written a much greater amount of material!”

“Oh is that so? When do you think it will be done?” Maria pushed forward with a simple smile of success.

“It’ll be done by Exams, so two weeks!” She announced with a joy in her voice.

“Is that so, well am I able to read a majority of it yet or will I be left waiting for the translation?”

“Fufu, don’t you worry I got some right here!” She pushed forward what looked to be a wadded set of numbered pages, “Have a read!”

Since it was for a moment of rest, Maria decided to give it a quick reading to see what she could scry from it. Indeed it was a modestly good story, Maria’s earlier edits coming along very well. However it was quite generic, being that it was about a Prince and his Commoner Lover trying to find a way to marry.

However she introduced some more spice, probably from experience. For one, there was actual romance between the individuals. Along with that, there was the fact a devilish outsider was looking to somehow wrench the two apart, so he can take Fein Kers for himself!

Indeed it was getting good, if needing a few more translations. However right now Maria could influence the end...

Entire armies used to stop mid battle for poetry reading if they heard anything good in some places. If we control the publishing company or become known as Kers' assistant/editor we might get clemency from the sheer power of fandom wanting to know the next part alone.
>Maybe make the foreigner more than just a villain
Unrequited love for one of the main pair who cannot reciprocate due to circumstances beyond their control? This is a last desperate attempt to make things right? I was worried about people taking sides over which character they like the most before (shipping), but if you can make the villain accept their fate it could lead to a sequel where a new character must mend the broken heart of the former villain.

Ooh I got an idea. The villain wins climactic his battle against the ML over her heart and comes to whisk the FL as his bride only to realize she truly holds no love for him and flees into the night for a hollow victory is no victory at all.
Then in the epilogue we get sequel bait as the villain's other childhood friend (possible devoted henchwoman in the novel?) admonishes him for going too far while whispering that she'll always be there for him or something like that. "Hmm, did you say something?" "Maybe I should..." Roll credits.

“I must say this is really good, I am liking the story. It is dramatic and quite the story to tell.” Maria admitted with a nodding of her head, “Though I do have some suggestions.”

“Suggestions? What would those be?”

“Well, first we cannot have the Villain be this evil. Right now he reads are something of a silly person for trying to claim the Peasant Girl for himself.” Mari admitted with a sigh, “Maybe if we gave him a little bit more of a tragic backstory, like say he lost his Mother at an early age and the Heroine reminds him of her.”

“Well thats not a bad idea, though I do not see it as a chance to better the story.”

“Fufu, you do not think very fare do you Fein Kers.” Maria gave a devilish smile at the thought of Capitalism, “If we play our cards right, you would be able to make a second novel tracking the Villain as he returns home and finds how his foolish attempts got him.”

“Th-that is genius! I love it!” With a swift motion Kers went across the table and gave Maria the biggest hug she could, “Fufufu! I will start this right away!”

“Y-yes indeed Kers.” Maria shakily answered while experiencing more hugs than she ever received in her life, “Though just remember to edit it so this does not look out of nowhere.”

“Yeah yeah that makes sense!” She answered before quickly getting back to her work.

Maria watched Kers work at it for a moment, the suggestion she placed actually coming up again in Maria’s thoughts. It was something she probably had no place in saying, but she could not help but recommend it to the girl who she was starting to like more by the day.

“Hey Kers, if you want someone with that experience talk to my brother.”

“Talk to Bon about what?”

“Just, talk to him about that idea. He knows more about what this villain’s life could have been like than any one of us.”

“Alright? I’ll do that.” And with that she went back to writing, probably quickly figuring out where she would start making ehr edits.

And like that the Wednesday was gone, quickly moving along to Thursday. There was no word about the Inquisitor yet, however that did not mean Maria had things she didn’t worry about. Like right now, as everyone was piling into a room that was requisition.

“Alright everyone, get a seat and lets get started.” Maria announced as she swiveled on her heels to see a large group of folks carrying their notes and other studying equipment.

Today was their study day, after all.

“So we just sit down and start?” Elric asked while gingerly taking a seat.

“Indeed. Simply put we are suppose to help eachother when it comes to ourstudies. Speaking of which, do any of you know a good enough bit about the the Lord’s Faith to help me?”

“Yeah I can.” Matheo answered while taking a chair next to Maria, “Though I thought receiving a gift from the Lord himself would help you?”

“No that is not the case.” Maria quickly told him without a care, “Simply put I should have been putting more effort into it than I was.”

“Uh, sorry about that.” Albert said while taking his seat next to Maria, “I guess I was that much of a distraction was I.”

“No you were not Albert.” Maria answered with a waving of the hand, “I just did not put time out of class on it.”

“Well, alright.” Albert answered while getting out his series of notebooks.

And with that everyone got started, each and every one of them chattering about their subjects. From what Maria caught on the preofery, it seemed that Erlic was more or less just competent when it came to all his classes. If anything, she was sure he was more focused wanting to get people on his side.

Next to him was Elizabeth and Erica, both of whom were trying their best to get him up from simply ‘ok’. They did not seemed to be having that much trouble, but you never really know if the material was going to be drilled into the man’s head.

As for Maria’s side for the table, she was more or less working with Albert and Matheo. Matheo simply opted to point out a few articles that Maria needed to read. It was nothing much, but Maria would say it was worth it.

Albert however was more or less working up on his Military Education. Honestly it seemed to little cruel to make a Merchant learn the secrets to warfare, but he was trying his best with the pointers that Maria was giving him. Though Maria admits that the best education was on the battlefield.

Speaking of which, Maria had a series of books infront of her as recommendations from Matheo that she could read.

Thinking about her choices Maria decided to began with her investment into the History of the Papal States. Honestly it was a wonder to Maria, as she did not really know how the Papacy formed back in her world.

Cracking open the book, it started right during the exodus of God’s people from the Holy Lands. The book of course proposes a series of legends about how they left the lands, ranging from just barely making enough boats to leave the shoreline or that the Lord himself spirited away the most zealous in a mockery of rapture. In the end they arrived at where the Papacy is today.

“Hey Albert, Matheo.” Maria called out the other two, “What do you guys think about the exodus of the Lord’s People? Were they spirited or just moved.”

“From Ka’lin?” Albert began to think, “I can’t really say myself, since I can’t really fathom how they even got onto boats that traveled that far back then.”

“You just arn’t thinking about it enough there Albert,” Matheo began with a grin, “I’d say that they were guided here myself. Makes more sense and the Lord could easily given them directions.”

“So you are calling the Lord a glorified GPS?”

“Whats a GPS?”

“Nothing.”

Maria quickly went back to her book, reading how the arrival was smooth as could be. Though just as before they were surrounded by all sides from Heathens. So the style of assembly was changed, instead of leaving them alone in an attempt to keep them out, evangelism began.

Quickly and surely the Pegans were all converted to the Lord himself. A new system was developed in that the Kings of old Gods were given the right to rule over the Lord’s people. Thus began the system of today, where the Church would commit cornations on behalf of Kings. Such a system proved effective in creating zealous men who would raid and destroy everything that was Pegan.

And such, the Old Gods were driven into obscurity. Their Children all but forgetting about them in the annals of time.

“Hey Matheo, what is the status of the Old Gods in this age?”

“Old Gods? Hehe, well that's a subject that's full of shit.” He laughed before shaking his head, “I heard things from that most migrated north to become the Morsemen, became simple demons, or just died off.”

“One of those is something I did not like to hear.”

“Eh don’t worry. The Kers Family is more than adequate for killing off the Morse Pegans.”

With that reading done, Maria could not really bring herself to read no matter how important it was. So…

“Uh, yeah you got me.” He admitted while scratching the back of his head/

“Fufu, well ask me anything you want.”

“Got it, how about this right here.”

With that they began for the moment, Maria trying her best to get things through to Albert. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed that Matheo had left her to go over and help the girls, so that just left Maria with Albert.

“So you are getting confused about where exactly to position everyone at the start.” Maria called out while they looked over the pages.

“Yeah positioning is not the strongest.” He admitted.

“Hmm, well is there by chance somekind of Wargame we can play?”

“A Wargame, like Chess?”

“No… but do we have any extra chessboards laying around?”

“I think I can find one, why?”

“Well I will show you, why don’t you just run over to get a couple along with some dice and a ruler.”

Everyone was looking at Maria in a small bit of confusion, and even more so as she began moving tables around. Books and such were also taken to be moved, and soon enough there was a terrain to make Maria happy.

“Alright, I was able to get two chess board. Uh, what are we going to do with them?”

“Perfect perfect, now grab all the pawns, knights, and maybe the Rooks.”

>Organize is a more defensive position at the start
Albert doesn't seem the type to be aggressive until he knows the rules and it's more relevant to keeping any caravan he's on safe.
Scenario: Merchant Caravan (+ mercenary protectors) vs unnaturally organized Bandits after the leader of your mercenaries got too sick to battle?

Now every attack by the Bandits is an investment made vs the risk of being caught, dying, or a later subjugation happening. What can you do to adjust their risk/reward ratios?
>>
>Also any suggestions for rules if you want.

>>4441778
Do Maria know risk? If she is and this world is devoid of war games then it's nigh time that we introduce it.
>>

Chess is technically a war game, which is why he at least gets the concept right now. We're just making things exponentially more complicated. I figured Starcraft or Go (being surrounded would represent being cut off from the supply chain which is death in a campaign) would be the things she references for making this up.
>>4441778
What about using coins for tracking HP since we don't have clicky dials? Each type of currency has a # value and you remove it until the base piece is dead.
The King can be a useless noble trying to leech battle accomplishments that you need to escort. It's giving yourself a handicap in exchange for a greater points tally if the fucker makes it out alive at the end.
I don't wanna make it too complicated at the start but im clearly failing as another layer to rules gets added in. The good part is that they all seem to use easily available materials for everyone. Are these modern chess boards or are they the older types that had random terrain painted/integrated in?

Every few rounds represents part of a day
Pawns are your standard peasant conscripts. Basically the people that have it the worst in a war.
Rooks will represent archers. They can attack from further away so long as they have line of sight.
Knights will represent cavalry. They can move faster and are armoured but cost more when we introduce budgets (point caps per team so that people can make their own styles)
Bishops are support units. They buff other pieces.

A later run could add randomizers like a deck of cards having each card correspond to misc battle conditions. Eg One suit is for morale, another for health to make your warriors hardy, another for attack, another for debuffs/terrain/weather. Anything below 5 is a negative for your team.

Aces, Kings, Queens, and Jacks each represent something unique. Kings would do something to make your normally useless noble brat be competent. Ace would mean your general does a brilliant move. All of which would vary based on the suit
Instead of a joker we have a saint card. That represents a divine miracle helping your side.
Third or fourth match we can complicate it further by having different chess sets (I doubt chess sets are mass produced identically here) represent different factions and give them each team bonuses. Eg. Kers's people can ignore negative strength draws and get an automatic bonus.
I feel like this is gonna end up paytested by the guards for us.

“Thank you very much.” Maria said while making a nice line of men on both sides, “What we are about to do is a little bit more than simple chess. Think of this as some kind of simulation if you can call it that.”

“A simulation?”

“Indeed, a Simulation.” Maria answered while pointing towards her line of black men, “Pawns are peasants, Rooks are Archers, Knights are Cavalry, and lastly the King here is the leader. We roll dice to determine how good is their performance in such matters.”

“Alright, I think?”

“Don’t you worry, I am making a good chunk of this on the fly so we should probably work on this together.”

Soon enough Maria began to arrange her minions upon the battlefield, Four Calvalry along with her series of Pawns. She herself decided to give Albert a Handicap, in which she neglected to give herself any form of Archers.

On Albert’s side, well he had an entire chessboard of men arranged on either side of the table. Maria could not help but smile at his placement that he did not think he knew.

“Alright then, your objective is to seize my cargo. The Cargo is represented by the King here.” Maria said while pointing towards the ornamented leader, “I win if I am able to get to any end of the table from here with the Cargo.”

“Got it, I think.” He answered before leaning over with his ruler, “Alright, time to start moving I guess.”

“Now remember, each and everyone of your men is worth a lot to you. In the end losing all of them will end up making you, your King, starve to death.”

“Understood, well lets get moving.” And with that he began to move the fighters about.

Maria watched with a careful eye as they began to approach, the Archers and Bandits taking up positions that were closer than Maria herself expected. It seemed that Albert was foolish enough to move his men within walking distance of Maria’s.

“Alright, firing the arrows.” He announced before making a series of rolls. What resulted was just a few death’s on Maria’s part, but noting too bad.

With that there was no more advancing as Maria looked over the field. Seems that Albert was looking to do a direct assault with his men, not the smarter thing of simply using his Cavalry to surround Maria. As such, she had a straight shot towards the table. Of course, this would take a little longer than she wanted.

Then again, she could opt to simply charge into one of his front lines since they are so close…

We can point out that the advantage of archers is distance, so bringing them in close that early was a mistake.
Fully encircling enemies if you don't offer the option of surrender is also a generally bad idea for a very simple reason. If you don't leave the enemy with any hope they can survive then you just took away the flight portion of fight or flight. They're going to go all out from that point on and inflict far more casualties than if they thought they had a chance to live.

You guys say that, but you forget that you must press the advantage you have. The Mongols, if I am not mistaken, tended to surround their foes on horseback and pelt them with arrows until they died.

Exactly! It best suited the Mongols to force their enemy to give chase instead of just leaving the battle field. You can surrounded them, force the enemy to break for it, and then just run away.

Maria took a look over the board, giving a soft sigh before reaching forward and starting to move her minions about.

“Alright Albert, first things first your positioning at the start of the round was quite well. Though you have lost the advantage of your Archers by closing your men so close to my own.” Maria called out.

“Tsk, so I messed up?”

“Not badly, just that you simply gave me a chance to strike out.” Maria answered while she finished placing her men at the lesser of two flanks, “Though it will be entertaining to see how this fight goes.”

Due to Maria’s actions, she outnumbered the amount of Bandits on that side. Though she was forced to keep a good many back to protect the cart from what would obviously be a direct assault on her carriage.

With that the fights and dice commenced to roll, and it seemed that luck favored Albert more as he held the line for just that turn. Honestly though the advantage Maria had already made this fight look more into her favor than anything else they were doing.

Soon enough it was Albert’s turn, and the man began to pelt arrows into her wagon as much as he could. The men stationed there were taking massive casualties, though it seems he quickly took her advice and did not advance onto the Wagon.

Though it seemed he was angling for his horses to join the melee soon.

So with that the Melee once again happened, and Maria’s forces destroyed Albert’s. There was no chess piece remaining on that side as the work was finished. So with that done, well it seemed Maria had a little dilemma.

>Prepare to receive the Horses
>Charge back to the Cargo to protect it
>Send Cavalry to fight each other while Maria’s forces prepare to throw themselves
>reinforce and start moving the cargo
>>
>>4442695
>reinforce and start moving the cargo
>>
>>4442695
Well in this scenario we would be clearly be at a disadvantage to an enemy commander, so the smart thing for a general to do would be retreat and get reinforcements if the package is important enough. If it's just one stop in the journey then you can't afford the morale drop from not winning since the men can't get later revenge.

>Reinforce the cargo and have some of the lesser wagons as cover if there are any. It can't have been only cargo wagons while everyone else had to march, it would slow down the caravan.
What about some pawns taking bows off of the dead enemy rooks? I think it would be overkill to make up a rule like that right now and look petty, but we can point that out as an idea to let happen in the next game. I'm assuming one or two pawns might know how to decently use a bow (Hunters, or when we make factions there can be english longbowman pawns) and there are arrows lying around everywhere. They'd get penalties since they wouldn't come prepared like the specialized archers and have to scavenge (dice roll) for ammunition.

Maria cursed herself with a click of the tongue at her little positioning troubles. However no matter what she did this was going to be the result, and she honestly was not too troubled by the actions he was taking.

So with a few movements of her hand the carriage began to move away while most of her men neared the object.

“Good good, Albert. But now what are you going to do as the enemy commander begins to run away?”

With those motions Maria’s forced were all together, making her hold about 3/4ths of her forces while Albert only had 5/8ths of his forces left. As such Maria honestly had the advantage when it came to holding the defence against him.

However she could only smile as Albert quickly had his men move out, the archers of course pelting her forces with arrows which caused a good amount of casualties. At Maria’s flanks left rear was a modest sized mob of his remaining peasants while the Cavalry had quickly made their way out infront of Maria. They did not cut off her retreat, but honestly she was likely going to be forced to fight them.

So in response Maria did the only thing she could do, and marched forward. Just as expected the Cavalry charged Maria’s front in an attempt to impede her advance, killing a modest amount of pawns in the process. However in retaliation Maria had her men attack the wayword Cavalry and kill them. However such an action cost Maria a good amount of time.

“I run my Peasents up to fight you directly.” Albert announced while advancing his men forward, easily catching Maria’s flank with her abrupt stoping of speed. Somehow both sides were neck and neck, killing eachother by the dozen from what the two were rolling out.

“Not the best attempt, but you made do with what you had.” Maria praised the man while looking over the battlefield.

It seems that due to Albert’s good call earlier, Maria was more or less stuck with either choosing to flee or fight. While she would love to charge Albert’s leader, there was an objective to be won. So with a swift movement of her hand, Maria moved the carriage forward in an attempt to save it from being attacked.

“I give you credit Albert, This would have been a much closer game.” She answered before moving the carriage forward so that it would take another turn to leave.

“Indeed, that seems to be so.” He answered as the dice began to roll and results were counted, “I should have moved differently.”

“Well don’t worry, since you’ve started the slaughter of my minions.” Maria began to remove all the little pieces off her board that had lost all their Health.”

“Yeah but damn, I didn’t think I would be this close.”

“Fufu, well that means you are learning.”

Indeed the battle seemed to finish up right before them, Maria’s men dying to the last while the carriage went off the table. It was a pyrrhic victory in Maria’s opinion, as the carriage in the real world would likely be attacked again later by another group of Bandits.

“So, did that help you?” Maria asked Albert with a smile resting upon her face.

“Yeah I think so, I think? I might need to practice a little bit more though.”

“Fufu, don’t worry. Who knows if you get enough folks to play we can have a miniature tournament here at the academy.”

“I think I will leave that to you Maria.” He said while scratching the back of his head.

“We shall see we shall see.”

And with that the study session came to an end, everyone leaving after a modest few hours of studying. For Maria, it looked like Friday was going to be gone quickly, followed by a weekend of who knows what will be happening.

Friday went by with a blaze that Maria could not be bothered to remember. Today she was in the Gardens, which had already started to die thanks to the arrival of near winter conditions. It was actually kind of nostalgic feeling the cold after months of being away from it. Thanks to Maria’s breeding that she was able to easily withstand the cold.

Indeed you needed to be resistant to the Cold when you lived in the Mountains of MaKain.

Before her was the book recommended to her two days ago, ‘Heretics and Heathens; The Gods who live outside the Lord’s Lands.’ Though it was quite the large tome, that was for sure.

Its first and frankly very extensive subject was upon the Miaphate itself. Honestly she was learning a lot more here than she did when the old hag was teaching her back in the Miaphate.

What first it explained was that they were Polytheistic, in that multiple Gods ruled over the peoples of the land with each specializing in a certain part of life. People would of course pray to each of them when completing a task in that God’s perview. Each of these temples tended to be headed by the Demi-Gods of these deities, though that was not always the case.

As for the Miaph himself, he is the descendent of Ahura, God of War, Leadership, and the Sun. He was the one who designed the bloody civil wars that always occurred after a Miaph’s Death, as it was the new Emperor’s Right of Passage into Kingship.

However even with the title of Miaph he was not absolute like one of the Lord’s Kings. Instead he would always need to play a steady game of alliances to keep the other factions in check. Thus they would never be the true center of authority, but instead rule as an Oligarchy with a military leader at the head.

Though as she finished reading that section Maria heard someone call out from her side, “Ah, Regina, I was not expecting you to be here.”

Maria instinctively turned to see a rather mature girl taking giving a soft smile. Maria gave the girl a smile upon her realization of who it was, “Ah, Relias, it is a pleasure to see you once again.”

“And the same to you.” She answered before drifting towards an open chair, “Mind if I sit here?”

Sounds like the Miaph would curbstomp everyone if they didn't waste time warring internally all the time. Civil Wars absolutely tank economies.

Why her family ? Last time I checked she has nothing to do with Holland

If she's the fiance of somebody stolen by Chloe, then her family is first prince faction.
We are the biggest threat to the first prince faction because we are no longer neutral and Elric is no longer lazing around all the time. He's actually serious. Plus the spiritual weight of our kingslayer title.
They don't care about Holland, they care about removing us from the board.

That and the more factions side with Elric the stronger his bid for Kingship becomes. Using this to make them friendly to us would be a great coup since in order to be betrothed to the prince they would need significant political power in some form. We would have been Lucien's fiance due to our importance when it comes to stopping Miaphate invasions and our dad having good intrigue. I'm guessing they expected to be one of the biggest fish remaining after their faction wins and could control what the other factions under them would say as a result.

“No, go on ahead.” Maria announced while making a motion with her hand.

With a soft smile she lowered herself upon the chair, taking in a breath as she did so. Indeed she was easily playing the part of an older mature woman. She seemed to a little saddened as she looked around for a moment, “I guess you do not have any tea.”

“My apologies, but I did not expect anyone to come towards me today in this cold weather.”

“Well, I simply needed to go outside for a moment.” She seemed to give a faint sigh before dropping her shoulders, “Indeed, things were getting much too troublesome these days.”

“Are you afraid of the coming Exams?”

“The Exams, no not now. These days I have realized they are not very necessary for my future.”

“Indeed, is it because of your lost lover?”

The girl looked up to Maria with a saddened face, “Indeed, these days I do not think I ever see them apart. If it was not for classes, I would think they were joined by the hip.”

“So I take it you were trying your best to get away from them, thus you are outside?”

The Woman simply gave a solemn nod.

Seeing such a dignified woman act like this was quite disheartening to Maria, though as she thought about it this seems to be the case. In the Game, there was not really anyone sans ‘Maria’ who would actively scheme against the budding couple. Thus it makes sense Maria would began to see the aftermath of this decisions working out in front of her.

How will your family take the news? Don't get too down, you have a short while of near absolute freedom before word gets back to them; what do you want to do with it?.
Maybe point out that we would be in her position if we had not been kidnapped and as such we are more than willing to empathise.
"She sounds like a forced to study nonstop to the bone to be an amazing enough partner for a fiance that doesn't care at all or notice her real self" type. I think she needs to safely get her rebellious/explosive phase out of her system now before it's something that backfires on her happens.
The shy personality tells me possibilities like:
Her parents are the cold english type that would absolutely marry her off to some old fart after she's known to be rejected by the prince rather than comfort her.
Her fiance isn't the prince but is somebody that has an inferiority complex (Ford?)
The prince is a dumbass that didn't notice he had a fiance perfect for him already.

We might be able to offer her a small revenge by getting her "senior" wisdom on identifying wtf is going on. We have to identify from scratch, she's had 3 years to run into possibly relevant info. Depends on if we have a second vote on interacting with her.
A shame we can't introduce her to the otome stories. It would be too much of a sick joke to make her read a Chloe love journal and our personal draft still isn't finished. Or can we?....

“Well, do go on.” Maria called out with a wave of her hand, “There must be a lot weighing on your heart, correct?”

“I-I would not want to trouble you Regnia. An underclassman, let alone someone who is not even of Austin should not be bothered by my troubles.”

“Come on now, sometimes you just don’t want to mention those kinds of things to your family.” Maria called out with a smile, “Sometimes you need someone who is just outside of it all.”

The girl seemed to fall silent for a moment as if getting her act together a little bit more, “I was with him for five years total.”

“Five years, so that would mean it was before you two even entered the Academy.”

“Indeed. We were as good as betrothed at the time, but many of the people around our families would not allow it. Well, at least not yet anyways.” She looked around for a moment as if searching for a cup of tea.

“Troublesome.”

“Indeed, but as long as he was mine for these three years we would be wed. However it seems the Lord above had other plans instead for me.”

“Indeed he does, though sometimes you need to wonder if those problems are caused by demons and the like.”

“I would believe this not to be the case.” She admitted while straightening her back, “When I see them together, it is obvious they were simply made for one another.”

“Quite the saddening affair.”

“Indeed.” She answered while picking herself off the chair, “Sorry for such a drab story. Maybe sometime soon we can see about having tea together.”

“Leaving already?”

“Indeed, this was only suppose to be a minor detour but has taken a life of its own.”

“Then I pray for you that this was not an ill fated encounter.”

“Same to you.”

And like that, Vinnesa Relias left. It of course was not anything much to Maria, but she was sure something was going to come of it. It was time for her to start moving as well, she finished reading a good amount already and any more was going to get her an information overload.

Maria arrived into her room, the place very much cleaned up from all the pesky traps that she set beforehand. They had served their purpose, and as such Maria was not too sad when they were all cleaned up.

“Ah, finally.” Maria lamented as she sat upon her chair and gave a short sigh, “So what did my father send me I wonder?”

Reaching over, Maria took out a small letter that was plain looking on the outside. Taking her knife and quickly opening it, she of course saw only a thin sheet of white paper coming out of it. Steadily, she took it and began to read.

My Daughter Maria,

It seems you have found a lovely man in your time at the Academy, and that your ambition from early life has yet to be tamed by all around you. Though I would have expected you to have gained one of the Princes to your side, I can see that they simply do not realize your value.

As for the men, I have talked to my knights and most agree we will be ready by late spring right when you return.

On that note, things on our border with the Miaphate have began to grow odd. No longer do their men actively contest against us, and instead have relegated themselves back into their fortresses. I do not know if you have placed the fear of god into their hearts, or something else entirely. If you know anything about this, please mention it in your next letter.

I do look forward to seeing you and your brother again, though it likely won’t be until Summer. I understand you two need to stay there and continue to make connections, and as such I will wait in content for both of you to come home.

Your Father
-Rado Regnia, the Dragon of MaKain

Maria gave a simple nod to herself, thankful that nothing crazy had happened. Of course, what will be her explanation on the Miaphate’s activities she wonders…

I think we can explain enough to not restart warring while not giving the full picture so that we can get caught out by somebody else snooping through mail.
>It probably has to do with my escape from the Miaphate. The current head hired me to kill the one holding me captive and he appears to be far truer to his word than I expected. I'll have to regale Bon with a story about that if he visits home before you do.
He should be able to read between the lines and figure out that we shouldn't talk about it in detail through the mail.

>But more importantly i've mostly had a wonderful time at the academy meeting new friends and having an adventure too. Blah blah blah.
Sadly it is not all a cheerful school life, The arrogant Ford has been feeding slander to the ears of those in (insert formal and proper titles of Lucien)'s circle and blah blah blah fill him in on Ford slandering--> the prince along with his new consort/lover and (probable) future queen being poisoned against us-->Somebody being bold enough to give them false evidence against us. With the sheer amount of sorceries that is involved in protecting the tyrant of Holland we suspect there is some sort of heretic nest there trying to avoid discovery but any fatherly advice on discovering the conspirators is welcome. We killed two demigods on this earth to get back home and we shall not be defeated by some man in a silly hat and a golden bird.

It seemed that everything happening with her Father was going just as planned. It actually helped Maria’s heart a little to realize that, and a little less of a sappy letter was enough to let Maria know things personally were going well. Still, she wished she had a chance to go see the man.

So Maria reached over and grabbed a feathered quill, dipping it into a vial of ink and letting it run across the pages. It was a cathartic motion, but all in all one that always seemed to be a waste to Maria. If only she had something like a mechanical pen her life would have been made a lore easier.

Atleast she did not need to use a clay tablet for this work instead.

Dear Father,

Thank you for sending the letter, things at the school have been going along modestly well. I will admit my attempts to gain the were for not, as another came through like a storm and took it. However I am not heartbroken about it, and instead seeing the reality of the Austin Empire for what it is.

It does not matter however, as I have opted to instead side myself with the Second Prince. He is an able fellow, and even if he does not attain the throne I can see a time where we can ally with one another.

Also, between when I sent the last letter and this one, we had the Harvest Ball. It was a grand affair, and if you are afraid now of Bon not having a lover I fixed that. Though she is a little hard to handle, I am sure the two are enjoying their time together even now.

Lastly, however, neither of us will be arriving to MaKain as you guessed. Bon is heading far north to meet our potential in-laws, while I myself am looking to do the same as well as complete a pilgrimage.

Love you lots,
Maria

And with that she sealed the letter and placed a seal upon the envelope. Honestly at some point she needed to get a sticky substance similar to how Envelops were in modern day, as they are far more secure than this one. Though she need oil for that, and honestly Maria did not know where to get that in the medieval era.

The moment Maria heard the doors opened behind her she spun around and presented the document to the incoming person, “Melody, I need you to send this in the mail tomorrow.”

“Oh, Maria, understood!”

We need some protection against mind control, our general studies, and more research into whatever is behind all of this. Protection has to exist since we seemed immune and the old gods would have not lost if that couldn't be countered. (What was the timeline we knew for the second prince being "convinced" to give up his bid for the title? They might speed things up but we can have that as a guideline.)

Anything else is a proposal I wanna sound out with you guys.
Make a special order of some random useful item (large?) so that we can tell a mailman to make a second business pretending to be the competition instead of overtly expanding. Then use first company as central dispatch under guise that it's cheaper for second mail company to pay the first one to do the legwork between cities than it is to pay for mailmen to go there themselves. Or pretend to have a conversation about such an idea in front of Albert and have it mailed to his nonexistent brother with the name of that bandit in charge.

We could also use non bandit mailmen to distribute books since everyone is gonna be cooped up in their houses with nothing to do but read for the next few months as another way to solve the expansion problem temporarily. Start up a publishing empire legitimately to make a deeper cover for our spies?

The fact that we're getting so much mail means competition is eventually going to start to fill the gap in, so we need to head that off instead.

Kinda funny that we're the ones improving Austin instead of our home country right now. I wanna see what the economic impact of this is and it would be hilarious if doing anything bad to us caused an economic collapse from the bandits all having to GTFO before they get in trouble for being connected to us.
Probably should have given daddy a heads up that the first prince faction might be trying schemes against the MaKain in retrospect.

Easily foiled by basic spywork like ciphers or something that utilizes math that hasn't been invented yet like calculus after we teach the inner circle in person. One basic technique I learned as a kid is to have a random dowel/pole of X circumference and the message is only visible properly when you wrap the strips of paper around the pole. Kers's written language is tempting, but there's a chance the bird knows how to read it. I wonder if we can do some sort of blessing to make it burn anything heathen that tries to steal our letter?

The sun had already gone to its highest point in the sky as Maria took note of her men. She of course could not miss service, so it seems their little expansion would be taking place closer to night. Was that a problem, well Maria did not really know yet.

Maria turned towards a pair of foot steps that were quickly coming towards her, “Are the men prepared for a fight?”

“Mostly are ma’am.” Jimmy answered while handing over a small crate of armor and weapons, “Honestly the men are a little jumpy. This would be the first time in a while we started a fight with others who can really fight back.”

“Is that so? Well do you have some targets for us to attack?”

“Y-yeah I was able to get about three of them.” He answered while bringing out a small paper and handing it over to Maria.

“Small, medium, and large. You just had to give me such stereotypical choices?”

“Eh, sorry ma’am its just how things worked. Though I ask that you look a little more closely at it.”

With a raised brow Maria did that and was kind of impressed by what she saw.

Hector’s Band: Inferior Force, Possesses Horses

Edward’s Highway Men: Equal Forces, Modest amount of wealth

Hercul’s Plunderers: Larger force, Might be Morsemen

“How in the world did Morsemen get all the way here?” Maria asked while turing to her cohort.

“I… don’t really know. We just noticed they were all speaking gibberish and were pretty menacing.” Jimmy answered with a shrugging of the shoulders, “Though keep in mind we can never have too many horses and money ya know.”

Now Maria just needed to make a choice it seems.

Horses are too much of a advantage to gain. They let us take larger mailbags (and give us more time to "sort" mail),deliver further, and greater mobility when taking on other forces, and so on.
>Hectors Band for the Horses
I'm thinking that we drug the horses, (and possibly the bandits) with sleeping potions before the main attack.

The highway men seem to be something to look out for in the future since our size is one bandit group + all local bandit groups forcibly absorbed to make secure mail. That makes them fucking huge if they're the size of our group. What the hell is going on with security in this empire? Are they incompetent and unable to provide enough jobs for a non bandit economy?Winter might be the time for cash grabs or new businesses ( get a small fee for being Kers's editor while she gets the lions shard of her royalties?).

I'm not sending em out to either die by morsemen or learn we know Solomon when they need to have a training camp.
Are we gonna end up making Victor the first police captain in our country? I feel like I should refuse to make Austin a better place so that Lucien can swoop in and try to steal the credit.
>>
>>4446527
Tactic idea. (Providing these bandits aren't too murderous) We make a fake delivery wagon and the men with that pretend to flee on sight. The bandits drink the spiked alcohol/etc in celebration and we round em up before giving them a job offer.
>>
>>4446527
Solomon might have decided to leave some men to watch over us and keep us save.

It's at least one idea why a large force of Morsemen just appeared here.
>>
>>4446217
>Hectors Band for the Horses
>>
>>4446598
I believe the implication of a giant group of drunken bandits finding out we have connections to the Miaphate informed you of that possibility already.

Either way it's best to give them a wide berth before inquisitors find out any connections or it now turns out we knew there were large bands of Moresemen nearby and didn't tell anyone. I hope Solomon eventually figures out a way to actually help instead of throwing wrenches at us.
>>

Or maybe those morsemen were Maria guards back then when they're in Miaphate and Solomon just hired them again to "help" their former employer.

Maria’s legs hit the ground as they finally arrived a few miles outside of the Bandit’s camp. They were about two hours away from the Academy, though much closer to the open ocean where the island realms held considerably more sway. However such island nations were not something Maria really cared about, as instead they were looking towards a rather small clearing just a little ways out.

“So thats where they are?” Maria asked Jimmy as she finished securing her armor.

“Yes ma’am, atleast thats what I understand for the most part.”

Maria looked over her men for a moment, their padded gear upon their bodies, “Alright men, this is a quick and simple take down understood? Try your best to capture as many of them as you can, but if you are being threatened don’t be afraid to kill them.”

She could hear a minor chorus of affirmations and agreences, though honestly she did know these folk were going to be that little bit harder to stir. That is what happens when they are more mercenary than loyal soldier. However that does not matter now, as they were going against a likely smaller and weaker force of men.

“Lets move out!” She announced, taking the first few steps towards their quarry.

At times like this Maria wished she at some point commissioned some armor to be made for her personally. What she was wearing now was wearing down upon her flesh in multiple areas, and she was sure that there was going to atleast be blisters. Such wounds would need to be cleaned later, so that she would not get an infection.

“Alright go out and secure the areas!” Maria announced while pointing to the sides, “We cannot let any of them escape, since they are our precious commodity.”

The movement soon was to Maria’s liking, and soon enough they found the clearing in the woods that Maria was looking for. Said clearing was near a modestly sized cave, along with men who were stationed outfront.

She could only click her tongue at the sight of their men gathering, though she expected as much. They were a small force of fifty men, so Maria did not bother to hide their much but wished a miracle could happen.

However her forces were ready, and theirs did not really look to be advancing themselves.

It was as if they were having a minor stand off, the two armed forces ready to strike at one another with fury. On on side was Maria’s Bandits turned Mercenary Mailmen while the other was unreformed Bandits. Indeed that was tense, but Maria realized this was exactly the situation she wanted to have these men in.

With a raising she pointed her Partisan blade into the air with purpose, “Everyone, advance!”

Some would have definitely seen this as a stupid and dumb move, but they also knew the brutal creature that their leader was. She was of course the person who slaughtered half a dozen Heretics with ease, leading them to a victory with almost no casualties.

So they advance, the soft grass dampening the clanking of boots against the dirt.

“Fucking shit! Sh-shoot them!” One of the Bandits called out to a small crowd behind them. None of their archers however seemed inclined to fire a single bolt due to the fact the enemy leader was fucking scary as shit.

You have to give them credit, you would have thought the enemy would have charged. Instead they slowly walked up like it was a simple parade.

Finally they were only about twenty meters away from one another, both groups staring at one another. However it was obvious Maria’s recruits were not willing to fight, doubly when one of the flanks came out of the woodwork just to excite the fright.

“Alright you scoundrels.” Maria announced to the men before her while crossing what should have been a no-man’s land, “Simply put, you are out numbered and under equipped to fight us. Thus I will give you this chance to take a lease on life and become reformed members of society.”

“W-what is in it for us.” announced a Bandit upon a horse announced while moving forward, “Even if you have us outnumbered, what makes you think we will simply bow to you?”

This man had a lot of spunk, Maria would admit, if he was not riding a horse. Indeed he was probably just propped up high enough that it was a literal high horse. Still, damn she needed to get herself some training riding a horse at some point.

Still, interesting that their leader just came infront of Maria, and doubly in range of a simple charge with her spear.

Your starting wages for your company will be (Amount lesser than what our core group gets) with options for increased wages once you have proven outstanding merit . The men behind me have proven themselves against heretical demon worshippers and helped save a holy town from an ill fate. Blah blah I'm making this too long.

So for your second question it is quite simple, I expect you and your men to see the light of reason so bestowed upon you by the Lord. Surely it is better to attain wealth, power, comfort, perhaps even enough prestige to become legend and more for doing what you already doing while possibly being in service to the Lord?

“Well of course, you will be paid for your new occupations.” Maria announced with a sly smile upon her face, “How does Four Austin Silver a week work for you all.”

“F-four Silver!” a few of the men announced while muttering came from the crowd behind the rather fearful Captain.

“That amount is quite ludacris you must realize.” the Captain countered.

“Well thats where you need to understand why I want you.” Maria announced with a waving of her hand, “I am a Duke’s Daughter in search of men to run her business. It is a growing enterprise, one that I plan to expand to the entireity of the Lord’s Lands.”

The Bandit Leader did not respond anymore, simply looking at Maria with a confused as hell expression.

“Fufu, simply think about it this way. With this pay and my protection, you all will no longer be hunted down by the numerous knights who seek to make a name for themselves. And if you serve me and the Lord well, you might even be given a raise in income like these fellows.” Mari said while making a showman’s motion to the numerous Mercenaries behind her.

Things were quite for a moment, but soon enough chatter once again began with the them. Indeed Maria’s offers were enticing, and honestly they were pretty much at spear point for this. This was less of a Devil’s Deal the more they all thought about it.

With that in mind, and the leader realizing his men was not going to follow his lead anymore turned towards Maria, “Alright, on behalf of my men we accept your offer.”

“Oh, not going to banter about if I betray you will make me pay?”

“Isn’t this deal just drop our wicked ways to get housing and pay? Since you haven’t caught fire, I can assume you didn’t speak the Lord’s name in vain.”

Well that can happen? Seems a little extreme, but Maria did not really bother about correcting him. She got her men, and they would serve her in her mighty force of Mercenary Mailmen.

After everything was packed up, Maria counted that they had about ten horses and a few tons in goods. Mostly those goods of course were foodstuff, but Maria was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Honestly though she thought more would happen in this little recruitment drive.

The highwaymen are pretty suspicious given that they've gotten some wealth without being targeted by knights but I can't tell if that's them being funded by some random noblemen or the government being incompetent/uncaring about bandits in general. “Well, thank you then.” Maria said before leaving the man, “I’ll make sure I pass your test with flying colors!”

“Indeed, I think you will.” The old man admitted before cleaning up his things.

As Maria made her way out of the room, it was to her surprise to see Melody standing at attention next to the door. Such a thing was odd, but Maria chalked it up to Melody having something important to give her.

“Mistress, I thought I had missed you.” Melody admitted while producing a small letter to Maria, “One of the messengers came today and said to give this to you immediately.”

“Immediatly? Hand it over then.” Maria said before accepting the letter itself.

Speaking of a proxy, how about we use one to follow behind us checking for anyone that might be following so that he can inform us or distract them
>>
Any proxy or bodyguard ideas? Bon might actually be a good one if he doesn't immediately attack since he'd never rat us out. I don't like involving him in schemes, but we kinda have to break the news to him eventually and he might be overprotective.

Kers might be so infatuated with the drama that she'd agree in order to get more material, she's stealthy, and knows to keep her mouth shut since she's not reported Solomon to the authorities already.
Her super strength also means she can (literally) drag Loveheart away if she tries showing up And beat the Moresemen in arm wrestling.
>Send a proxy saying we are probably being followed by someone other than our shadow, so we will take a bit to be sure.
>Head to the tavern
I'm gonna trust him to not be so incompetent that he forgot to make sure the tavern is secure.
Have some bandits scoping out the neighbourhood so that we can get a warning when Lucien and Loveheart draw close. They aren't experts at keeping themselves hidden. Offer to buy them a round of beer afterwards. Inquisitor are actually less of a threat since we have a laundry list of legitimate reasons to not get Solomon riled up.
He got this far undetected and could have killed an entire generation of nobility last week if he so chose.
War could immediately break out at home with there being no reason to.
War would then blitzkrieg into the Austin empire since Holand can't even beat mountain men and Austin can't even take care of freakin bandits.
Solomon is clearly extremely competent
His gods absolutely hate us so by the terms of the agreement he has no chance unless he were to convert to the faith of the lord
We didn't expect to accidentally get him madly in love with us.
Blah blah. I'm padding my post way too much with this when most of it isn't even the vote itself.
>>
>>4448117
>Head over to the Tavern
Solomon doesn't know anyone here and we can't expect him to trust any proxies in a country that would like to see him dead.

Not like we have anything to really fear.

“Do not forget everyone, your exams shall be on the Monday of next week. Prepare for them, for I will not be kind to you.” The Professor of Faith, Father Heimrick announced to the class with a firm declaration, “Thank you all for coming, and praise the Lord.”

With those words everyone within the class began to get up and moved out of the place without much issue. However unlike most who were taking their time to head out, Maria instead made her way towards the slightly proxy fellow.

“Hmm, oh Kingslayer is there anything you wish of me?” The Father asked with a smile adorning his face.

“Uh, yes if you don’t mind me taking your time.” Maria answered back with a calming smile.

“Indeed indeed, with this over classes are over for the day anyways.” He made a motion with his hand as if welcoming.

“Thank you, well I was wondering about the Inquisition. I really heard of them you see, and I understand that they are people who search for Heretics and Heathens. I just don’t understand what place they hold in the Church.”

“Well that indeed is a worthy question, though may I ask is this because of your little trouble with Loveheart the other day?”

Maria simply sighed while giving the man a simple nod.

“Well to answer your question, the Inquisition are those who monitor for dangers against the Faith. Heretics and Demon worshippers are the highest on the list of course, giving Heathens a close second on that.”

“Yes yes, I understand all that.” Maria simply shook her hands in a dismissal, “I was just wondering what kind of powers they have.”

“Powers? Well it really depends on where the investigation is happening.” He answered with an upmost honesty, “We of the Faith are determined to give them free reign, as not even the Cardinals can control them. Only the Pope has that kind of Authority you must understand.”

“Thats… alot.”

“Indeed it is, but we cannot face down heresy without it. This of course was put in place during the Age of the Iconoclast Heresy, but I digress.” He answered with a shrugging of the shoulders.

“Is that so… I guess each Inquisitor is pretty independent then?”

“You would be right. Of course most know the Gospel of our Lord and abide by it, but most are only given a general oversight by their seniors and God himself.”

With a few motions of her hand, Maria had it opened and reading the contents of it without a single error in her vision.

Maria, come to the Hotch Tavern. We have much to talk about.

It seemed Soloman was earlier than Maria expected.

Im making the real update now. This was just shit I forgot to post because I made too much...

Real Post Time

It was not a very troublesome travel towards the Pub, since it was within the nearby town. It was a place not too far off from what Maria knew as the main street, which meant it was oddly quite public for where Maria would think they were scheming things.

Entering, it did not take Maria even a moment to realize where exactly the man was sitting. It is as if he simply gave her a flare of power across the room, leaving her to look at a rather quant table resting at the corner of the room.

Since there was nothing more to do, Maria went on the approach, “It has been a while, Solo, though you are also here earlier than you said.”

The man, once again somehow looking like a caucasian simply smiled, “Indeed, you can say I have been lucky enough in many respects. Simply put, the men were easily swayed upon my own accomplishments.”

“Then you are lucky.” Maria admitted while taking a seat at the table, “So is this really where we will be talking business?”

“No no, definitely no. I just wanted a place where we could easily meet and be merry.” He answered while a smile as food arrived, “I hope you do not mind beef, I asked for a double serving of it along with some wines.”

“No, I cannot say I hate it.” Mari admitted as the meal was placed before them.

With that they began to eat the meal, though to an outsider it would be pretty funny watching them eat. Solomon, for all his due diligence, ate with his hand to break apart pieces of the meat. For Maria she opted for a pair of knives and forks.

“You know, you should probably eat with a fork while you are here.” Maria called out with a sigh.

“Oh right, I am still in the mindset of the Morse. Now I need to get into the Monothians Mindset.” Me admitted before grabbing the utensils and quickly acted like Maria.

“So why did you do that? Have you gone to so many different cultures that you could not keep them in line?”

“You can say that, though I have yet to go east.” He admitted with a hint of disappointment, “Simply put they are too far to be of any use. While I do enjoy their goods, being that far does not bring me any military advantage.”

“Have you considered the Economic Advantage instead?”

“That they would continue to give my Nobles and the other Houses luxuries? No, I can’t say it's worth it. Why waste what little funds I can get on fools who I need an excuse to strip power from.”

“Are you suggesting that you are brewing a rebellion?”

“Against myself, maybe.”

>I suppose I'll have to travel the world someday as well but I'll have to end that barrage of fey sorcerers and unnatural creatures seemingly intent on sacrificing me first.
Tricksters may tend to be humanity's favorites to hear in stories, but supernatural swindlers have an arrogance to them unbefitting of man nor beast. A disaster is something everyone must deal with, Man does not rage against a storm or earthquake. Foolish jesters make things more personal and think they can forever evade the grudges they have made against themselves.

I wonder if diine blood reveals the passages? Best not to test it while inquisitors are around.

The chaos that would ensue if we got kicked out and had to leave dealing with Chloe's pagan mind control to people that aren't even immune to it would be a sight to see. Removing us gets rid of their entire mail system, and lets the bandit population explode unchecked. We didn't even do any of our grand schemes yet and losing us drags the entire country down.

Meanwhile we start having bizzare adventures against vampires, battle against Kali with some Sikhs, tame a chinese dragon into being our servant with s oy sauce, and defeat Nobunaga after hearing about a demon lord on our quest to gather some omurice.
It's actually rather amazing how much craziness you can get away with. She certainly makes for a fun read.

With that they continued to eat through the meal, driving away most of the meat into their stomachs and having a few glasses of the wine. The Wine of course was not half bad at all for Maria and she was sure there was nothing dangerous within the substance.

Finishing up her meal Maria looked towards the other man, “So I actually have a question for you.”

“A question for me, you shouldn’t have.” He gave a coy smile along with those words.

“What is your opinion of the Austin Empire?”

“The Austin Empire? Hmm, now that is an interesting and loaded question you are posing.” Solomon admitted while setting his utensils on the table, “It is powerful, though nothing in line with what my lands are capable of if we unite under a single banner.”

Maria took a moment to chew on those words for a moment, “Unite under a single banner? I take it is hard to achieve?”

“Unless we are attacked by an external threat, yes.” He admitted solemnly, “Well that is it for that, how about I walk you home.”

“Why of course, follow me then.” Maria answered while they both got off the tables and placed some legal tender upon the table.

[Military Success]

As they left, Maria’s eyes quickly ran over the groups of people present. There might have been a few present Maria saw as shaky, none of them seemed to follow them from the building.

Walking in the cleaning outside of town, Maria could see that the sun was starting to set overhead. It was a modestly clear if cold sky, the clouds seeming to just hang there. Both had neglected forms of transportation, though they honestly did not bother with such means when such a place was good enough for their dealings.

“So I take it you have the path towards the Academy cleared of spies?”

“Indeed. I made sure most of the bandits who could have tried to attack us were sufficiently occupied for the moment. As for eavesdroppers, well they would need to be in the wide open correct?”

“You know, I had heard of a group of Morsemen around here recently. That was the Guard correct?”

“You got us. I guess it would be that obvious.”

“Too obvious, the Church has recently summoned an Inquisitor to investigate the Academy. The Guard might be easily pinned towards you.”

“Well that would be troublesome, however they would be insane to think the Miaph would come to Austin of all places.”

“Indeed, but you never know.”

Solomon’s face simple gave a solemn nod, “You never do.”

Seems like a good reason for a free for all from the surrounding nations to carve up Lucien's empire. None of the other nations can really trust diplomacy when one side is full of mind rapists.
I feel bad for Elric and we can probably leave him a small chunk of a Kingdom, but if we have to go Deus Vult on the entire empire to fix its messes we aren't doing it for free, nor can we convince the rest of the continent to give back hi former land.

You're jumping really far ahead in the timeline.
We've seen that Chloe and Lucien have tyrant like qualities in a nation where they are not the sole authority. There is an ancient god in the mix here somewhere. Gods aren't used to nor will they like puny humans telling them what they can and cannot do. The misc fiefdoms don't like their puppet king going full tyrant on them. This breeds a rebellion combined with the negative effects of us accidentally improving the country beginning to show. That waitress means the mind control immunity is not exclusive to us and we can guess that each town has at least one person that goes wtf at the mass mind control events. Whispers spread around of heretical things. Another copy of Valor's notes spreads around showing that the King is a half souled abomination. The crop rotation means citizens are well fed enough to rebel properly instead of malnourished.
Once the heretical secret is out it becomes a mass holy war. Elric's only hope is that he had a rebel army or opposed Lucien publily. Otherwise the entire line is going to lose trust from the people and nobles.
If lucky it's just a magna carta situation. If not it's each fiefdom seeing a chance to carve things up for territory.
Or it turns out we were secretly in a Berserk quest. In that case everyone is super fucked.

“So, I have been wanting to talk to you for some time.” Maria admitted with a sigh, “Those weeks ago, you mentioned that there was a God influencing the school who shouldn’t be. I have good reason to believe that a blond haired girl is somehow harboring this thing. Is this true?”

“You seem quite sure in your assessment, can I ask what makes you think that?” He answered back with a raised brow.

“Because she was able to perform a Miracle of the Lord, but it felt wrong. I had experienced one of the Lord’s Miracles before and now I can say for certain that it is not his own.”

“A bold claim, and one that is not unfounded.” Solomon admitted while nodding his head.

“So are you going to answer my question, or am I gonna have to pay for it somehow?”

“Hehe, you got me, but think of it more as an opportunity. I will confirm she is not a normal Mortal. In all due likely hood, I can see her as being some kind of Demi-God similar to myself.”

“A Demi-God? That… could not have happened. From my understanding she was a Bastard Child of Nobility. Would a line of Demi-Gods really sink that low?”

“Not unless the Gods were active enough to impregnate a lowly farm girl.” Solomon answered, “Which brings me to my proposal, I can give you access to all of the knowledge the Miaphate has to offer. In return, I ask that you spend the coming month helping me tame this coming rebellion.”

“You just want to spend time with me, isn’t it?”

“You are correct in assuming that, simply put due to distance I have been put on the lower rung in the competition for your heart. I do not plan to lose it.”

“Saying that outright, are you sure that was a wise move?”

“Is it not wise to speak your mind to the person who you desire as a lover?” Solomon countered, his eyes looking into Maria’s without a hint of shame in them.

>On that same note it will not be good to lie to your competition. I will have to tell him and right before an inquisition is a terrible timing even if such news is never a good thing.
>She and her ilk have done a horrible job of disguising their intent to sacrifice me and if she could fool several cardinals in front of their faces like that I doubt the inquisition will go well for me. I was planning a pilgrimage to Ca'ren since the history sounds like what I think they are doing. whatever old god it is behind everything seems sufficiently dullard enough to repeat the same scheme twice. Care to join me?
I'm not too sure on the map, but i think it's within his kingdom or at least part of the route is, which means he can deal with his kingly duties as a tour/inspection while at the same time going on the journey. We can pretend we were promised safe passage and they forgot to specify a time frame while swearing to their gods.
Is there an ethiopian equivalent? It's always funny to realize ethiopia has historically been a religious power and has the real arc of the covenant even to this day.

I forgot to add a note for what he might read between the lines on, but basically we'd need protection from them trying to make a virgin sacrifice after being excommunicated. We basically dangled the chance to be a shining rescuer or protection in front of him.
We also didn't promise we'd go alone to the ancient city.

“Well, how about this.” Maria began with a sturdy step forward, “I can within the lands of the Miaphate for two, threeish weeks. Ontop of that, I need to visit the city of Ka’lin for atleast a day while I am over there.”

“Done.”

“That was quite fast.”

“Indeed it was, but I am learning to take all I can get. Simply means I have two weeks to woe you to my side of the world.”

Maria could not help but smile, “You will need to make up for almost six months worth of time.”

“You are talking to a young man who at barely sixteen became an Emperor. Why, is ambition a sin to you Monophites?”

“Fufu, no I would think the Lord greatly values it. Atleast, if it is within his interest.”

“Then we will see about it then.” He answered as the Academy’s walls finally came into sight, “I guess this is goodbye for now. I need to start moving lest people prepare to attack the Morse Horde I’ve been dragging along.”

“Well I will see you later during the Winter. Don’t be afraid to send letters though.”

“Indeed I will not. Please just let me know where to have my Navy pick you up.”

And with that, the man walked away into the distance. Maria herself did not linger much longer either, as she had about another week to finish up things. Soon the Exams would be upon her, and after that Winter Break.
