“A Knight is Sworn to Valour. His Heart Knows Only Virtue. His Blade Defends the Helpless. His Might Upholds the Weak. His Word Speaks Only Truth. His Wrath Undoes the Wicked.”Every child in Cantôn knows of the Knight’s Code. From peasant-born waifs playing with sticks in the mud to keen-eyed noble sons practicing with cold steel in the training yard, all have at the very least dreamed of one day becoming a knight themselves. To ride out on errantry into the Five Duchies Kingdom and beyond for God and Glory, bringing the Law of Adam to the wicked and the Blade of Cain to the beast. The Knights of Cantôn are sworn to follow the Code, to obey the King, to refuse no call for aid honestly asked for, to seek out and destroy the Foe wherever it may lurk and rid the world of evil. Were it so easy…------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Twitter: https://twitter.com/BlackCompany666/qst/ Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Sworn%20to%20ValourOur Knight & Companions Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/iBg32ZQwGeneral Plots & Intrigue: https://pastebin.com/HW6tG7TWSecret War Specific Intrigue: https://pastebin.com/55pd59kuDramatis Personnae: https://pastebin.com/mydcz8pAFaith & Politics Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/Cu4FPGVMFoes, Foreigners & Monsters Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/nXwzHGGa

Many years from now, not far from home…“And STAY OUT!” The innkeep brushes his hands, as if to dust off the filth of the troublesome patrons that had disrupted the bard’s story. “Pit take those same... anyway friend, where were you?”The troubadour clears his throat. “I was just about to-““Just about to skip past the bit that children present ain’t fit to hear!” The innkeep’s wife fixes both her husband and the bard with a glare stern enough to stop a River Troll in its tracks.“Right. Yes. Of course…” The wandering bard coughs nervously, trying to remember just how much he was supposed to censor. There was a really good limerick in there about licking and passionfruit… The troubadour looks down at the two children listening intently. “Hmm. Perhaps not. On to the next bit.”
PLEASE READ CAREFULLYAs most of you are no doubt already well aware, last thread was interesting to say the least. Those seeking to catch up on the drama can find it in the archives. Stemming from this, one idea to help tie the noose around samefags was to have a time-limit on votes. I won’t require this for every post, just for the initial opening of the quest.Votes that do not link back to an ID responding to THIS post between 30/08/2020 10pm-11pm AEST and 10am-11am AEST (12 hours from now) will NOT be counted. As part of your verification post, you MUST include a sentence that might be found from the Book of Brothers. You don’t have to quote it chapter and verse, and it can be humorous if you like, but particularly good ones might be used later on in the quest. It’s a bitch, I know, but I think it’s a reasonable precaution given what’s been happening lately. Votes will begin 24 hours from now.

And so it was with blood and fire the people rose up, and so it was that many lives were lost, men and women and children cut down in the streets by those loyal to the Dragon. But freedom was a sweet salvation, a honeyed fruit, ripe and ready for the taking and the Brothers two led the masses outward towards the sea. There they faced buffeting winds and harsh storms and indeed more lives were lost, but as the sun rose on the new day, so too did the beginnings of a new chapter for the people of Canton, blessed were they to be lead by Adam and Cain to their new home."

>>4428913Well. Guess I'll be here 11 hours from now.> "It is not that the Foe is untrustworthy. The Great Beasts are always true to their instincts, and can be trusted to act accordingly alone and never united. The Fae are even more singular of purpose and their individual perspective and it binds them tighter than any chain or collar man ever wore. The Beastmen can be trusted to turn on weakness, whether within their enemies ranks or their own. More than any man can be trusted to remain the same tomorrow as he is today, the Foe can be trusted to remain the Foe."> "Therefore I do not refuse to make peace with the Foe because I don't think it possible. The Fae could be diverted into their games until they are consumed by the roles they create for themselves. The Great Beasts can be isolated and penned to their territories, easily satisfied and easily culled when one becomes a danger. The Beastmen could be beaten back, preferring to pick easier targets amongst themselves or perhaps even to beg some form of service from a strong and united Kingdom of Men. Knowing how they will act, they could be controlled."> "What I do not trust are Men. We lead them now, and we are strong enough now to do all these things. But are we to rule them as well, brother? When the Foe seems weak will Men not forget the danger? Or worse, seek to use the Foe when Men fight amongst themselves? Men have chosen to refuse freedom for the certainty of chains, remaining slaves for fear or worse to be given small status over other slaves so they can be petty tyrants of their own. Men have died and more will die so long as this war continues, but each Man that dies first stands free and proud. Each Man that dies does so making sure their children can do the same by taking the Foe with him into death. We are not shepards of Men, we are their saviours."> "It is the fickleness of men, not the Foe which is an eternal threat. When Men forget that the Foe is still and ever always exactly that, when they think they are any more or less than the Foe and can be ignored, or used, even served as if they weren't the Foe is when they will strike men down once more. By my blade I shall prove that the Foe are not the eternal threat. No man can bend his knee to the Foe, not in defeat nor in treacherous desire, if they're all dead. I refuse to rule Men, so I swear to leave them a world that doesn't need us to."- Cains Oath of Peace, made in rejection of Adams proposing a truce after the Battle of Motte-Fallavon.

She was no great hero, no empowered magistrate, just the Mother of unruly Sons, standing defiant against the Tǟhn and his soldier. Her love and compassion for her Sons held her true in the face of their cruelty, whether it be by blade or torch. Though they ravaged her body, stole her eyes so that she never see her Sons again, cut out her tongue so that her Sons could never hear their Mother's voice again, and stripped her of every last dignity their foul samefagged minds could think of, Salve Reginae held true. In admiration for her selflessness and suffering, even the heartless Dragon felt touched when he discovered her injuries at his people's hands, and turned the Tǟhn and his men to ashes."Not sure what book it would be from, but likely the equivalent of Exodus or something like that.
>>4429069>>4428913And so did the Brothers begin to see the dawning rays of manhood, though their lives were still all but enveloped in the cool and serene night of childhood. And with these rays came the belief in their own might that they lacked in prior years, but that they would not truly attain until years after. With these early-born revelations, they set out to confront those evils that had once been as children like the brothers themselves, but as the purpose and duty in the hearts of the brothers had grown ahead of their bodies, these others had that which lived in their hearts grow from a seed of innocent cruelty to knowing malice and evil. And this seed of wickedness had been watered by men whom the Almighty would see the brothers face when they were men in truth. These wicked men had employed the twisted youths to procure children and babes off the streets, for their most wicked purposes. And so, the Brothers came to blows with their former tormentors in innocence, now enemies in truth and slew them. But as only one wheat grain my fill a stomach more with than without, so to did these youths additional year make the Brother's victory hard won. As the red wickedness seeped from their bodies as a river to an ocean, so to did the blood of the Brothers seep as stream to a river. They walked towards their Mother's hearth, not yet pooling blood, but they could feel the weakness of their bodies, such as a dam built by old and feeble beavers. In the battle, Cain's sword hand had been grievously injured, as had Adam's left leg."Brother, I cannot fight with you and keep you from harm" said Cain, with despair in his voice."And I can no longer shoulder your burdens, oh brother of mine" spoke Adam, his words as tears from his mouth. And thus Adam said, "I shall hold your sword when your arm falls." And in turn Cains said"And I shall shoulder your burdens when your leg fails". And this covenant of Youth and Strength found in their weakness, would keep true until the day of Martyrdom. At last they reached their door of sanctuary, and lo, it was compelled open, revealing in their Mother, in all her wrath. No words were spoken as she lifted them up, with the gentleness of a morning breeze and all the firmness of an executioner. As the bleeding was staunched and bones made right, the Brother's mortality was made known to them in full and they spoke not a word. At last, their Mother looked upon them, eyes of ice. But as spring must always come and bring with it its warmth to heal the cold of winter, so to did Her eyes melt into the warm rain of tears. Holding them in her embrace, thus She spoke"Oh flesh of my womb, oh warmth of my breath, oh comfort and disquiet of my heart in equal measure, bless the Almighty you are safe in my arms." No further words were spoken that night, as tears flowing from the springs of their own eyes flowed across the Brother's cheeks, and a Communion of Tears needs no words.Final tale of the Chapter of Innocence

To truly defeat the Foe in the hearts of Men so that they may never make of Men slaves again we must surpass them. The lives of the people are worth more than the death of the Foe. Now that they are broken, must we still define ourselves by the bondage we suffered? Did not the Almighty reveal to us, and from us to the masses, that Freedom is not something we had to gain but that we simply didn't believe we already had it? The Almighty gave us hands to work with, minds to think with, and hearts to follow. We once chose to stop following the Foe as Masters, because the choicw was always ours. Now I choose to stop following them even as enemies."> "It is time to stop fighting, to make a final break with the power they held over our lives. I will not let the Foe decide the future of Men. Instead, in this place where Men saw their power broken we shall build a new future where Men will not only forget that they were slaves but will refuse to believe they can be enslaved since they can always refuse."> "While you speak of concern that Men might one day forget the dangers of the Foe if they no longer fear and hate them, I worry that without losing their fear and letting go of their hatred Men will never truly walk out of the shadow of the Foe."> "We have led the Men that were once slaves to victory, we have siezed a land we can make our own. Many have died, and the loss of brothers both born of the womb and in war has takem its toll. Are we Beastmen, to mindlessly chase when our enemy is weak despite what it might cost us? Are we Fae, trapped in their roles and unable to change even when the world around them already has? Are we the beasts they always claimed us to be, different from the Great Beasts of the Wild only in the weakness of our bodies while also being weak in spirit and will? Perhaps able to wreak havoc when in great numbers much like any vermin left unchecked but unable to create a true civilization of our own? Brother. I don't want to kill the Foe, I wish to defeat them. To show them the proof that Men are the blessed children of the Almighty. Men have not the great strength of the body like the Great Beasts, or even like the lesser Beastmen who are hardy enough to survive suffering the harshness of the Wilds if need be should difficulties arise. Nor are Men beloved of Mana, summoning powers that cannot be resisted by the world when it obstructs us. Yet it has been revealed that we do not have those things because we do not need them. Cont.

It is still several hours before sunrise when Frida kicks you out of her bed, or the House De Ver bed to be perfectly accurate. Not for her the expected post-coital snuggling and cooing, or perhaps this office wasn’t as exclusive as you had first thought. You haven’t forgotten just who Frida Vancewell is or what she’s capable of, but for all that intimate affection to end with an ungracious eviction struck you as a little cold even for her. You were even starting to feel a little bit used. But, as she shooed you out the bedroom door with your clothes still bundled in your arms, she stopped you at the door and kissed you like she meant it. And by that you mean she bit your lip hard enough for it to hurt. But only just a little. >GAINED Lady Frida Vancewell Advanced Favour: +6DC Intrigue/Counter-Intrigue, +1 Intrigue/Counter-Intrigue Re-Roll +1. Any double-pass in Persuade/Intrigue/Courtship will reveal whether that person is a Faction member.Given that both Lady Vancewell and Josephine Daubeny have been in the periphery of the quest for some time now, and there will be no further opportunity to meet them during your stint in Cathagi, I see fit for us to skip to the ‘Advanced Favour’ step of the courtship. The next ‘official’ stage of courtship is writing to them, seeking their permission to start a correspondence. It varies on whether this permission is granted by themselves or the head of their family household, but it invariably indicates a further interest in exclusive relations with a mind to seek an engagement down the track. The Marquis Fallavon was not yet at this stage with Frida Vancewell, despite wearing her advanced favour. I don’t expect anons to make a decision on who they will seek to write to just yet.You had put the lessons imprinted on you by the Patrikas to good use, Lady Frida Vancewell certainly had no complaints regarding your performance. Not that she didn’t have a thing or two to show you in return, in fact… well suffice it to say the two of you have little to fear in the way of any illegitimate offspring from this affair. You’re not entirely comfortable on what the Book of Brothers might say about -that- sort of behaviour, nor whether it would take a dim view of you seeing two women in as many nights and also intending to court Mademoiselle Daubeny before you leave. You tell yourself that you are just confused, your heart has yet to catch up with the options arrayed before you. Hopefully you can resolve that uncertainty quickly, before risking the Angel’s displeasure… not to mention potentially damaging your reputation as a gentleman of good repute.[1/3]

And that only solidifies your nagging suspicion that you are not showing all the moral fortitude you could here. As for Father Towbray… you sigh heavily as you slink back into your own bed. Your next confession is going to be unpleasant. You awake a few hours later, having managed not to sleep the entire morning away again. You squint against the sunlight and wish that Mikail could have brought you a hot cop of khave to help shrug off the tiredness for today’s tasks, but your education on his courtly skills as an attendant are just barely sufficient to prevent serious embarrassment. You’ll have to focus on that aspect of his apprenticeship if you wish to look forward to that thoughtful kind of service. Cursing thoughtless squires and servants the world round, your grumbling only grows louder when you realise that your squire has let your breakfast cool. Chewing on a cold sausage as you watch him train with Sir dan Marc from your window, you figure that he’s getting enough of a beating as it is already without you adding to his growing number of bruises. You take this opportunity to observe him without him aware of your presence, he always seems to try harder when he knows your watching. The boys forms are still very basic, even amateurish, but at least they are there. He’d give a common footman a run for his money, but any veteran man-at-arms worth his salt would make short work of him. Sir dan Marc is doing well to keep the boy up to his current standards of swordsmanship, and keeping up with his own regimen, but if you mean to hone the boy’s progress any faster you’ll have to begin paying more direct attention. As for his writing and reading… You shake your head, one thing at a time. [2/3]
>>4430126>"What the Beastmen and their brethern suffer and shrug off in the wild we shall tame to the plow and the hearth. What the Fae destroy or divert with Magic when inconvenienced or found insufficent to their desires, we shall learn and improve on so that it doesn't last only the moment of the miracle but instead will become the foundation for the future to be built on in turn. The Future is ours if only we decide to make it so by leaving the past."> "Brother, you have fought by my side for so long against the Foe. Be not bound by your Wrath against them. They can no longer choose for Men how to live, nor define the limits of man by their body or mana instead of by whether they have the will to persist and the faith that they can succeed. We have cast of our chains, yet you are now letting your Wrath bind yourself to them anew, only where once we fled you now wish to chase after our once Masters instead. The best use of a blade is when it is no longer need and layed down so that you might wield a plow instead. Your hands cannot build the future we fought for while still holding your sword."- Adam in rebuttal to Cains desire to pursue the Foe, establishing that his path was not to destroy the enemies of Men but to instead surpass them. The Foe should not be hated for what they are, because they don't have the choice to be anything else. Men and the Sons however can choose to change. They were once slaves until they chose to be free. They are now soldiers in an army, but now that they can choose to instead become citizens building a Nation there isn't an excuse for choosing to keep fighting after the enemy is defeated simply because they can.
[3/3]Tomorrow you will arrange your voyage, and perhaps visit the markets. But today there remains a few matters requiring your attention. One most likely pleasant and sociable, while the other… less so.======================================> You head to the Ordo Praetor Commandery first, by now they should Lazar in their grips and possibly even made an arrest on the Butcher of Port Bounty. >>4430445Just not feeling it man, the lack of snuggling is a deal breaker for me.
>>4430548By Vancewell, I was speaking solely of the individual lady, not her house. She would likely be cool with her family getting the axe, as long as she inherited its wealth and power. Our sister and mother, on the other hand may be schemers that do view there siblings and children as pawns, but they also love them dearly and wish for them to be happy and safe if possible. And when they do view them as pawns on a board, it is always for the benefit of the house as a whole, not just for themselves. Vancewell has shown little of such loyalty for her own family beyond how it relates to herself.
>>4430569I know you meant that. Which isn't entirely true - it's obvious she harbors some affection for her father, after all. Will it hold in the face of ambition? Doubtful, but her father doesn't seem a man who believes in honor or loyalty. And no respect for her brother is only a point in her favor, to be honest. What's my point? Other than joking about Emile's siscon tendencies, just that your list of flaws boil down to 'not on our side'. A tad hypocritical if you ask me, but Almighty knows that waifus bring out the most irrational side of Anons.
>>4430600I agree with your last statement. I despise what waifu wars can do to a good Quest. I am not, however, for any waifu as I am pointing out some reasons why some may not be the best.As for your conclusion that "your list of flaws boil down to 'not on our side'", I am not being cautious of her do to her not swearing loyalty or friendship to us, but that our morals and hers will likely come into conflict. If she can be shown to be more moral than what has been observed or that she can be gradually converted to a moral position closer to ours, the inevitable conflict could end very messily. In summation, it is not so much that she is "not on our side" at the moment, but as time progresses, she is unlikely to ever be " on our side".I apologize if my statements came of as hypocritical or aggressive. Could you point out exactly how I was being hypocritical? I'd rather not make an argument later in the quest only to make a complete ass of myself.

>>4430644> but that our morals and hers will likely come into conflict> but sister and mom are cool because they want our good despite all the manipulation and pragmatism. This is what I mean by hypocrisy. You seem to be okay with our family doing questionable things if it benefits us, while Frida doing it for herself is bad. Both are examples of opportunistic selfishness.Tied to this, Frida becoming like them is probably the most moral she'll ever be. It's fine in my book, but not everyone might think so.And don't worry, you weren't aggressive.
>>4430706Not all questionable things are equal. I have at worst heard of our mother attelpting to arrange marraiges and spread gossip. I have yet to hear of her snding assassins to kill people. While I do belive she is very capable of it and has may have done it, it is still diffrent to Vancwell admitting to sending goons to kill us. As you said, she could be more acceptable if she more closely mimics our female ralatives, but until that occurs, she is on record as performing actions that are morally inferior to anything that our family has on record(though, if Emile "remembers" overhearing his mother plotting something bad, that could change).TL;DR Vancewell has crossed lines that we have not heard of our family crossing.

>Your brother Damien entrusted you to deliver his missive to Lady Brunhilde Rabe. She and Sir Karlaus Rabe are due to depart the day after tomorrow, apparently some issues in their home duchy have them concerned. [Idealist]“Come to see us off, Emile?” Sir Karlaus Rabe grins at your arrival. “And judging by your lack of armour it’s not to ask for my help in a mickle fight. You disappoint me, Romani. “To deliver a letter actually. I have better things to do than let my good name be tarnished by association with some gruff Montbrun lout.” You grin back at your friend, well accustomed to his verbal sparring after weeks on the road from Aubrey to Motte-Fallavon.“A letter? Who for?”“The Lady Brunhilde Rabe, of course.” You present the letter just out of reach. “No one writes to you, on account of the fact you can’t read.”“Ha. Ha. Very funny.” Karlaus squints suspiciously “Who from?’Your brother made no mention of whether this letter was to be delivered discretely, without Sir Karlaus Rabe being aware of it. If it really was his intention to begin a secret correspondence with Lady Rabe, which you doubt given the general air of approval your sister indicated on the match, you feel that he certainly would have told you.“Buzz off, Sir-Sticky-Beak!” Lady Brunhilde Rabe all but snatches the letter out of your proffered hand, giggling excitedly as she reads. “Oh! It is from him! I’d been hoping he’d send it! Oh. My. Gosh! He wants to write to me! Me! Little-Miss-Chatterbox, well Mademoiselle Kroger can choke on that nickname, she doesn’t have a dashing Young Lord seeking her hand! Father will approve of course. He better approve. If he doesn’t I’m going to absolutely…”Karlaus ignores his sister’s prattling to regard you inscrutably. The two of you know full well that an exchange of letters between his sister and your brother is a precursor to marriage down the line. [1/3]
[2/3]“Hey now, don’t shoot the messenger.” You say jokingly, but your friend still seems concerned. “My apologies for the jest, Karlaus. What troubles you?”“This brother of yours… is he a good sort?”“I would follow him to the gates of Ardenne itself.” For a Romani, there can be no greater attestation of confidence. The significance of the statement seems a little lost on your Montbrun friend. “Well, I’m sure you would. If only because that sounds like a bloody good fight.” Your friend Karlaus rubs his neck, “What I mean is though… does he hit his women? When he’s been at the drink like…” “What? No!” Your voice raises an octave in sheer shock at the suggestion. “Reginae wept, no! Why would you even ask that?”“Well I have to ask, don’t I!” Karlaus responds defensively. “I’m her brother, you know. Can’t bloody well challenge my friend’s kin to a deul over it if it comes about later, now can I?” You shake your head at your friend’s incredibly low bar for what constitutes a good husband. You can’t even imagine a Romani husband would ever act like that. Oh there are rumours, of course, your sisters are probably more up to speed with that sort of thing. Usually it’s in the cases of a husband from another Duchy, and according to Roselyn such brutish men tend to be fairly accident prone.“I can assure you that Damien Andrei is a good and righteous man. He would never dream of laying a hand on a woman in anger.”“Phew. That’s a relief.” Karlaus breathes out. Then he grins widely. “So does this mean you and I might become brothers-in-law?”[2/3]
[3/3]Moving on to more weighty matters, you discuss with your mountain-living comrade what sparked their early departure home after receiving letters from home. Although they weren’t told to come home, the news those letters carried was enough to encourage them to cut their trip short.“Hilde would obviously love to stick around and enjoy the Port Bounty shopping scene a bit more, but I had to put the foot down.” Despite claiming to be in charge, Karlaus makes sure his sister is out of earshot when he mentions that ‘put the foot down’ bit. “There’s been twice as many reports of snakemen sightings and raids this past year already than in the two years before it. Castle Rabe is a tough nut to crack, bloody reptiles couldn’t manage it if we left the fucking gates unlocked. Still, it’s home. And I worry.”“Has the threat of the snakemen really become so grave?” You ask with surprise, this is all news to you. For the first time in months you think about your investments in Tracker Jean’s trade caravan operating out that way. You’d almost forgotten her venture was out in the Wastelands, if not the woman herself. You tell yourself not to worry, you’re sure Tracker Jean knows what she’s doing. She was probably back in civilised Cantonian lands before this all broke out anyway.“Nah. Word was that the Broken Blade sending a contingent of their best through Gabriel’s Gate to pacify the snakemen. Lead by Godric ‘Godfather’ himself, I heard.” Your friend shrugs, a wry grin on his face. “I’m probably getting worried over nothing. Odds are the Broken Blade has put this threat to rest already, and taken the lion’s share of the glory to boot. Still, if you don’t mind whetting your blade on some snakemen necks you’re more than welcome to join us after your pilgrimage.” You inform your friend that you’re considering staying on past the Final Vigil in Cathagi, having received a recommendation for the Dragon Guard. “Swapping thousands of little serpents for one big one, eh? Ah well, it’ll probably be all over by then.” Karlaus grins optimistically. “A nice summer campaign in the mountains, under the Duke’s Banner, to clear out the scalies in the valleys. Probably won’t even get a decent battle out of it, but oh well. Done by this winter, I don’t doubt. A few months altogether, a year tops. Nothing you need to worry about. Safe travels, friend.” “And to you, my friend.” You pause as you walk away. “Karlaus…“Hm?” [3/4]

It's a matter of the technical wording vs the spirit of the promise and which holds more importance to Emille.
>“If you call upon House Andrei, we will answer. Or I will, at any rate. Even if that means I must ride to your aid alone. I will so swear it.” [Haughty] + [Oath]“If you call upon House Andrei, we will answer. Or I will, at any rate. Even if that means I must ride to your aid alone.” You do not go so far as to pledge the loss of an eye, finger or some other ligament should you fail to fulfil oath. That is a Montbrun custom and in any case the witnesses of Karlaus and Brunhilde to your oath are enough. “I will so swear it.”“If the time comes, I’m glad I can at least rely upon you to honour your oath when you return.” Sir Karlaus Rabe’s face breaks into an easy grin as he slaps you heartily on the shoulder. “But it will not come to that, friend. I am sure of it.”You feel a little silly, swearing an oath to come to your friend’s aid for what will most likely prove unnecessary. The Montbrun have been keeping the snakefiends at bay since the very foundation of Cantôn. House Rabe will not be troubled by a few barbaric scalies lurking in their mountain homes. Still, it felt like the right thing to do and Karlaus took your oath with good grace.Having bid your goodbyes, you make your way to the Praetor Commandery. [1/3]
Sir Thomas York, who accompanied you on the raid of The Hole a few nights ago, is happy to meet with you. It's been a busy few days for him, having taken over the investigation from the unpleasant Praetor san Kilroy.Sir York grimaces when you ask why san Kilroy was removed from the investigation. “There were a lot of names in that ledger.” Sir York goes on to explain what has happened in your absence. The Golden Sun captain was good to his word, handing over a none-too-happy Lorenzo to the Praetors. Eager to make a deal, the shifty Langlish spymaster was quick to name names. The Butcher of Port Bounty turned out to be none other than Monsieur Quill Wavell, Priest-Preferati. You’re surprised at the allegation, you’ve never spoken to him but you’d spotted the man at the Duke’s Ball the other night. To your eyes he seemed a rather bookish and unassuming fellow, hardly capable of the kind of horror he has been accused of. But looks can be deceiving. It was, by all accounts, a rather dramatic arrest made by none other than Officer Zachariah of the Port Bounty Watch, 17th Rota. Any qualms concerning Monsieur Wavell’s innocence were put to rest upon discovery of the… ‘evidence’ in his private quarters. It makes sense, the more you think about it. Him being a distant relative of the late Esquire Liam Wavell explains how he got in touch with the Faction in the first place. As Priest-Preferati, a candidate to become a Monsignor in time, that would explain his title in the note. Although not given due respect and influence as much in Pascae as they are in Romaine, senior members of the priesthood would be a uniquely attractive prospect if blackmail was uncovered, say that they were a mass-murderer in their spare time. Whether that was indeed the reason the Faction utilised Monsieur Quill Wavell as they did is neither here nor there, what is clear is that the man’s murderous appetites clearly grew following his misadventure in Northern Fallavon. You can only imagine what he witnessed, or what kind of ‘evidence’ the Praetors uncovered when making the arrest. But you were otherwise unavailable, and it seems they had the matter well in hand in any event. Sir York admits his people have stalled on the slaver investigation front, but they’ll keep following leads as they arise. You decide to keep silent on that, you don’t doubt the Ordo Reginate will be making an altogether more decisive and indiscriminate application of justice there. “Praetor Primus Holt is currently in a meeting, but he’ll want a word when he’s done.” Sir York gestures at the despondent figure of Sir Bartholomew Wavell down the hallway. “I think the killer’s cousin was also asking after you.”[2/3]
[3/3]Sir Bartholomew Wavell, normally a haughty and gregarious fellow, seems to have aged 10 years since you last saw him on the arm of Mademoiselle Gilbern at the Duke’s Ball.“My own kinsman… Reginae Wept, can you believe it? I broke bread with that man… He gave the last rites at my brother’s funeral!” Sir Wavell slumps further into the bench, his head between his hands. “Cain on the Cross… Mademoiselle Gilbern will never accept my proposal now. And why should she? Who would want to marry into a House that sired the Butcher of Port Bounty?”You do not tell Sir Wavell that his own House’s infamy will soon be matched or even overshadowed by the fate that will befall House Hewitt. It does not seem appropriate at this current point in time.“Here. Your payment for finding the killer, as promised.”>+1 Wealth [7]“Our Cup Overflows indeed. Except in this instance, it overflows with poison…”=============================================> “Ahem.” You’re no copper-clipper, but to be frank Sir Wavell has only paid half of what was agreed. I can't wait for when we get to Cathagi, try to social-fu him, and then get reamed out in public again. Then we'll have to worry about a Cathagi spy somehow being among us since the beginning.

Write-ins >This choice, in addition to the write-ins, will result in an AUTO-SUCCESS for persuasion and will most certainly shift Sir Wavell’s perception of you from a glorified hired hand to that of a peer, if not an actual social equal. House Wavell will look favourably upon you in the future. Anons that pointed out the potential insult for a Pascae noble in refusing payment were smart to do so, but it fortunately does not apply in this instance.> -1 Wealth [6]"Even great orchards sometimes yield foul fruit. Yours is an esteemed house and I am sure you will overcome this." Sir Wavell nods at your words, appreciating the concern if not accepting the content. “Please, keep your coin Sir Wavell. My only interest was in seeing justice done. I am sorry it turned out to be your kinsman.”Sir Wavell blinks in surprise. “But… this is owed to you, we had an agreement!” You steadfastly refuse payment, telling the knight that if he really does wish to spend it then he should do so towards making amends to the families of the victims. Sir Wavell nods, still surprised at your altruism. “Well, even if my dreams of marrying the fair Mademoiselle Gilbern are in ruins at least the sorry affair has revealed one selfless friend of our humbled house.”"My dear Sir Wavell, did you not say that the love of your life is the fairest of the land, both in beauty and of heart? If so then she most surely will see you for who you are and know that you, true and just, are worthy of her hand." You lean in and speak with a hushed tone. "Furthermore, the various investigations are ongoing. It's entirely possible that something far more dastardly may yet come to light, overshadowing the entire affair. It IS a very big ledger of dark deeds, after all."The prospect of the ruination of other rival Pascae houses, evening the courtly playing field so to speak, does a lot more to improve Sir Wavell’s mood. He does not leave with a skip in his step by any means, but he at least straightens his back and looks you in the eye as he shakes your hand.“My thanks Sir Andres. I will not soon forget this.” He bids you goodbye as the Praetor Primus calls you into his office.[1/3]
The Commandery’s main office is surprisingly small for a man of his rank, and no less covered in an explosion of cryptic paperwork than it was in your last visit. Praetor Primus Grigor dan Holt offers you a seat, though you do have to move a few files off of it before you can actually sit down.“It appears that I was wrong in my initial estimation of you. Our office will be following up on the leads from that ledger for months, maybe years. And it would not have been possible to bring all this to light without your assistance.” The Praetor Primus doesn’t go so far as to offer you glass of warn, but he is noticeably more congenial than he was during your last meeting in this office. Or at least his frown as a fraction less severe. “Although you do seem to have disappeared over the last few days as we followed up on the Butcher investigation, even with the ledger we would likely have been clutching at straws without the apprehension of this ‘Lazar’ that you so helpfully arranged through Captain Lorenzo. In light of that, I am willing to offer you a deputization with the Ordo Praetors.”Praetor Primus dan Holt then goes on to explain the nature of the organisation, it’s hierarchy and requirements expected of you. Should you decide to join. The ranks of the Ordo Praetor are as follows:Deputy Praetor PraetorPraetor PlenipotentiaryPraetor Primus (Duchy Mandate)Grand Praetor (Continental Mandate)[2/3]
[3/3]As a Deputy Praetor, you associate member of the Ordo Praetor. You do not have the power to initiate investigations or make findings without written approval from a superior Praetor. You will however, be empowered to execute any outstanding warrants that come to your attention and assist investigations being carried out by Praetors that you are made aware of. You may be called to assist in such investigations and are expected to lend your assistance as a matter of priority unless banners have been called and the Rule of War is in effect. As a Praetor, you will be empowered to begin your own investigations in your local Duchy jurisdiction and forward your findings to the nearest Praetor Commandery. In the absence of a local Lord or other relevant official objection, you are permitted to make findings and pass sentence according to the appropriate laws. You will be required to pass an exam on the relevant Duchy laws, standard Church law and local customs (Romaine in your case). Readings in preparation for this exam generally take 2 years and the exam is sat in your Duchy capital. A Praetor Plenipotentiary has similar powers to a Praetor, but their jurisdiction extends throughout the continent and requires passing a further exam after 3 additional years study on the laws of Cantôn that encompass Church, Duchy, Crown and local custom laws. The exam is sat in the Praetor Headquarters located in Aubrey.Holy Orders consider their members to be exclusive as a matter of course, but especially so in the case of the Ordo Praetor as they are often tasked with investigating accusations levied against other Holy Orders of note where jurisdiction issues arise. You will still be permitted to swear fealty to another Lord and join any secular lodge, but must of course recuse yourself from any investigations where those parties are involved in some manner. ====================> “I am afraid I must decline this honour, Praetor Primus. Not least because I am expecting to spend the next two years in service to the Dragon Guard in Cathagi.” You have not been too impressed with the effectiveness of the Ordo Praetor to date. I will make time in the next two years to study up on my Duchy’s laws in preparation for the Praetor Exam upon my return.” You are eager to proceed with the process of becoming a full Praetor as soon as possible. [Hearty]I like the idea of combining these two designs into a badge of sorts, perhaps embedded in a chestplate or pauldron? Alternatively, the suggested unique coin could also work.“I am honoured to accept this deputisation, Praetor Primus. I will make time in the next two years to study up on my Duchy’s laws in preparation for the Praetor Exam upon my return.” Between Mikail’s training and your studies for the Praetor Exam, there will be little time for any extracurricular activities when off duty from your Dragon Guard role. Still, it’s not like you’re going there for a holiday in any case. “My intention is to apply for the exam in Romaine.”“Good, we encourage potential Praetors to specialise in their home Duchy’s laws to start. The Praetor Exams will be held at Castle Romaine or, to put it more accurately, the town just down the river from there. Here, take this.” Praetor Primus Grigor dan Holt thrusts a heavy tome into your grasp, a ‘cheat sheet’ on the more broad Crown and Church laws that will apply in addition to the Romaine laws that you’ll have to look up yourself. “While you’re over there, make sure you visit the Aetheneum. They have legislation and case law dating back hundreds of years, or so I’m told. Some of it is even the very stuff our oldest legal systems were founded on. Worth a visit, and knowledge of foreign laws will stand out on the assessment. The school of international law is… well, virtually non-existence. But they say it’s a growing area these days. Whoever ‘they’ are”“Thank you, Praetor Primus.”“Welcome aboard, son. Adam guard your heart and clear your mind.” The Pascae Praetor Primus shakes your hand firmly, showing you the first inkling of genuine respect since you first met. “Sir York will help you with the necessary deputization paperwork and particulars.” ...[1/2]
[2/2]Senegan, 11th Day of Acrimun, 883 A.C.E, - Port BountyIt has taken several days to arrange passage to the distant city of Nova Cathagi. Many pilgrims do not make the final leg of this journey, to follow the steps of Adam and Cain on the Long Walk in that ancient city. Your ship is due to depart this coming Monegan morning in two days’ time. You have arranged to call upon Mademoiselle Josephine Daubeny prior to that, after Sandag mass tomorrow.Father Towbray, Sister Ignatius and the Knights Comitas have made their own arrangements with regards to the majority of the rest of the pilgrims. Normally purchasing even the meanest passenger plot on a voyage across the Southern Sea would eat up at a commoner’s meagre savings, but this final leg of the pilgrimage has been heavily subsidised by the Church since its very foundation. Without exception the pilgrims have followed your lead with regards to selecting the vessel to travel on, though whether that is because of your unofficial designation of leader of this band of pilgrims or more due to the whispered rumours and awestruck deference you occasionally notice when in your presence isn’t entirely clear. Indeed you could swear that the number of pilgrims has in fact grown since you left from Motte-Fallavon, though if you’re honest you have difficulty telling them apart.Dismissing such concerns as beneath your notice, you turn your mind back to the seaworthiness of the vessel you have selected for the voyage and the character of its captain.=====================================> A Langlish carrack, captained by an ex-privateer of that western isle. >>4436267Not trying to vote here since I was to late to post. However, I would like if Forgotten could give us some advice regarding our current wealth, the pilgrim´s and what can we expect of each option. We are not paying for the entire voyage are we?>Languish CarrackAllows us to visit Langland, which I am not too comfortable about. The mercenary captain might have enough of a grudge to order a hit on us while we are on the boat. >Cathagi galleyThe cheapest option and allows us to get some practice with the Cathagi tongue before reaching the land, which would be very important to not make a fool of ourselves. Might be the one most affordable for the pilgrims. Less secure and we can expect both pirates and storms. The latter does not concern us since we have no-selled lightning.>Canthonian cog. The cruise option. Not sure how pilgrims can afford this, but it would be the most secure choice, and it would also allow us to make connections to the order of the trident, as well as ample space to teach Mikhail.(how is his sword trainign doing, by the way?) Also we could do a lot of turism along the Canthonian coast I guess.
>>4436274It was stated that the church pays for the majority of the ship fairs for the pilgrims so any option should be fine. It's also shown in the option for the Cog that it's one of the usual methods for pilgrims to cross so it seems within their means. I almost voted for the Galley but the risk of storms and pirates seems a bit too great for me personally

[Haughty] [-2 Wealth]The carrack will take longer but it´s of a good size and well equipped, probably meaning that we wouldn't have to worry about storms or supplies. I'm suspicious of the Cathagi galley since a desperate captain looking for profit might want to turn his passengers into cargo, and I worry how the sleek ship would handle an inopportune storm. For those that wish to not spend Wealth on gear to help us with sailing, consider that we will at the bare minimum need to secure our trip back to Canton. If we take the -3W option both ways, we literally gain nothing from serving in the DG, if we do so, and we have no additional bonuses gained for any sailing trips we may take while in Cathagi or afterwards.TL;DR: Don't spend 6W on two sailing trips when we can spend the same amount for both trips AND gain bonuses that will last beyond this trip.
>>4437145 Realistically how often will we be sailing? We're a knight, not a sailor or pirate. I voted for pathfinding stuff in Fallavon because it's likely that we'll use that sort of stuff often even outside those specific woods but I really can't see Emile spending a lot of time on the sea. Both Emile and we the players have made it clear that there is serious shit in Canton we want to attend to as soon as we're done with Cathagi (be at after DG or not). Investing in sailing seems to be throwing money away on a lark (especially when we could be buying or saving for a full plate harness with a plume, something we've wanted for literally moths)
As I understand, the Dragon Guard offers 2 wealth upon entry and 5 wealth at the end of your 2 year term.
>>4437195So 7 wealth total with the safest option to cross being 3 wealth. Honestly though, we don't need to go with the absolute safest option on the way home. The only reason I voted for it to get to Cathagi is to keep the pilgrims safe and I doubt they'll all stay for the 2 years of us serving in the DG if we go through with that so we can probably just book it home on a fast boat afterwards
>>4437193As I said, we will be making at least two trips. While we will not be spending as much time in the deep woods of Fallavon, the checks that we will be making while sailing are implied to be particularly vital. The fact that the Cartographer Licence specifically makes you immune to 'Swept Overboard!' is a massive red flag in particular. As for the subject of cost, we will spend more on two -3W trips than two -1W trips w/ some purchases of equipment. I also want that coveted mastercraft full plate w/ plume, but that is going to cost us 6W on its own. The pay we get from the DG is our best bet at affording that sick armor.
>>44371953 wealth seems a little excessive for passage in the Cantonian cog, unless we are paying for part of the pilgrims passage to make the difference from what the church gives them for the trip.
>>4437208Master Crafted Full Plate Harness is a total of 4 Wealth, not 6. (3 for full plate + 1 for master armourer)> the checks that we will be making while sailing are implied to be particularly vital.Yeah I imagine if we roll poorly and get terrible weather, and are on deck it would be pretty vital to avoid being swept overboard. But that's a lot of things that have to go wrong. As to your estimates of cost etc, we aren't choosing the boat (and therefore what gear we'll need etc to remain safe) just for us, the pilgrims will be picking the same one. Are we really considering saying "fuck you, I have all this extra safety, hope you can hold on tight" to the pilgrims who will travel with us? Because picking the most dangerous option and loading ourselves up on sailors gear etc to remain safe is a surefire way to lose our pilgrims that we've been charged with keeping safe. All that said, I again don't think investing so heavily in something we're rarely ever going to be doing is a good investment.
>>4437218When you take into account your companions, their horses and the Order of the Trident contigent I do not think it is unreasonably classed as costing 3 Wealth.
>>4437195think this is more a flaw with the wealth system as you can't divide options without getting to a 3 wealth expense maybe you should have a look at the wealth system during the break maybe make it 30 x most prices by 3 instead of a 10 cap to give you more breathing room with choices
>>4437231Its fine, it's like traveling in a floating fortress. We're paying for security and room, it isn't as if you didn't give other, cheaper options
>>4437224The Full Plate itself is 4W, but the Impressive Finery required to have a Plume is 2W.> But that's a lot of things that have to go wrong.Yes, a lot of things can go wrong. It is entirely a possibility, which is why I want to be prepared. As for the safety of the pilgrims, they aren't being quartered on the deck of the ship; they'll be down in the cargo hold most likely. Also, I believe it was mentioned that if you want to just take a ride without having to fight or work the ship, you have to pay extra, though I'll admit that may just be what we are being presented with here.
>>4437247I mean are feeding him and take him on walks right? Might also give a bath every few months while we are it.
>>4437233I think that’s certainly fair. It’s not the first time that the weakness of the Wealth system has been discussed.Since I’m taking a break from Sworn to Valour during the IC voyage, that seems a good time to consider an overhaul of the wealth system even if it’s as simple as increasing it by x10 etc.I still don’t want to lock down ‘Gold Coin buys you this much’ level of detail because I can’t into economics and I’ll end up seriously embarrassing myself by making a castle affordable with pocket change or something.

I'd be ok with taking a loan as long as we set it up with a long time frame. We obviously shouldn't be traveling with zero wealth as Forgotten pointed out but we can take a loan, by some sweet, sweet full plate with plume (or other stuff I suppose...) and pay it off when we return

Offloading its wares and provisioning in Langland for a short while, a vessel of this size is well equipped to handle the long stretch of open sea between Langland and Cathagi. This voyage will likely take 2 months. [Haughty] [-2 Wealth]> [4] WealthThere is much to be said about the Langlish, and to say those folk have a coloured reputation abundant in innovation and unsavoury mercantilism is an understatement to be sure. Langlish warriors are disciplined and well-equipped to be sure, you’ve seen this for yourself, but they lack the honour and virtuous strength of the great Cantônian knights that protect this realm. But only a fool would deny that the Langlish are anything short of peerless at sea.So you find it an easy enough choice to select a Langlish captain, ship and crew for your first voyage. One of the largest ships in the Port Pascae docks, the Coy Siren is an impressive vessel. The largely Langlish crew are self-evidently seasoned sailors, with twice the size complement of any other ship destined for Cathagi. You may be taking the more circuitous route by stopping over briefly at Langland, but you do not doubt you are in good hands here.Sister Ignatius and Father Towbray have confidence in your decision, though the two of them seem to agree on little else these days.[1/2]
[2/2]“You are too harsh, Father Towbray. Despite it’s foreboding name, the Langlish are unparalleled shipbuilders.” Sister Ignatius seems pleased with your choice, though she has warned both of you that the notoriety of sailors wandering hands must be kept a constant vigil against. “The Coy Siren will see us safely to our final leg of the pilgrimage.” “I don’t doubt it’s seaworthy enough for a foreign tub, we’ll make it to Nova Cathagi I’m sure.” Father Towbray grumbles. “But I’m not too sure I trust these foreigners not to sell us off as slaves when we get there.”The nun of the Sisters of Mercy graces you with a kindly smile. “I’m certain that Sir Andrei would have a thing or two to say about that.”“Maybe he would. But if he kills all the slave-taking sailors who will be left to drive the boat?”You offer your confessor a wry grin. “I’m a fast learner, Father.”“Hah! Careful I don’t give you penance for bad jokes, lad.” The Reclaimant Zealot switches to a more serious expression. “It’s a pity that not all of the pilgrims can afford the subsided voyage fee. To come so far only to turn back now, such a same...”========================================> “It is a shame, Father. I am charged with protecting these pilgrims, but I will not take those who are unprepared for what it entails.” If they had not the means to make this journey even with the Church’s support, they should not have set out in the first place. I leave to escort the pilgrims on the final leg of their journey in two days time, sadly however there are those who simply cannot afford the passage across the sea and will have to turn back before keeping their final vigil.I believe that if you were to sponsor these pilgrims, and perhaps dedicate the gesture to your lady love, it may help the gossip of the city move on more quickly. How many in this city could say they prefer to talk of grisly murders and back alley deeds over chivalrous acts of gallantry and valour? > “Let me see what I can do, Father.” You ask Sir Bartholomew Wavell to sponsor the pilgrims, returning the owed favour for your part in the investigation and perhaps a small gesture of the upstanding and generous nature of his House. [Hearty]The write in was a little wordy, but it had the right message. While Sir Wavell may not feel that he still ‘owes you’ so to speak, he agrees to fund the pilgrims and his high opinion of you remains. While Father Towbray is somewhat scandalised by the source of the funding, he grudgingly agrees that it is better than the alternative of the poorest pilgrims having to turn back. Sister Ignatius on the other hand, is positively praising Sir Bartholomew Wavell and yourself for making the arrangement and does not hesitate to tell her fellow pilgrims that it is just this sort of charity from the well-born that shows the bounds of forgiveness and redemption knows no social strata. You don’t have the heart to tell her it was more likely a calculated method on Sir Wavell’s part to garner just that sort of praise.During your visit to the markets, you are notified of an unexpected appointment with the moneylenders of Corvis & Vale, one of the largest Pascae banks that Sir dan Marc distrusts so much. Surprisingly, you are not by none other than Mister Vale himself. It’s only fitting for a noble of your station, of course, but you have to admit you had thought the partner of the bank from this duchy of burgermeisters wouldn’t see fit to meet with just any potential client with a noble pedigree. Imagine your surprise then that you are already a valuable customer. Apparently your sister Roselyn had made representations on your behalf, conveying the monies owed to the Grenoble Moneylenders and the possibility of future loans. A great deal of money has been taken out in your name, apparently for the long-term purpose of investing in some sort of printer invention. Roselyn must have found it galling that they would not lend money to a woman, but you really wish she had cleared it with you before forging your signature. And a very convincing signature at that, you might add. And did it really have to be your name? Why not Damiens? You can only hope that your sister repays the substantial loan, and you do mean substantial, on her own volition in due course.[1/2]
[2/2]There is at least an upside to this fraudulent loan by your sister. For such a valuable client, Corvis & Vale is willing to grant a further personal loan to you. It is not an insignificant amount they are willing to lend you, and for a generous period of three years. However, there is a set interest rate that will accumulate regardless of how quickly you pay the amount back. They also want a signed security so that they can recover the amount from your House in the event of your death. Pascae banks are clearly more… structured, even opportunistic, than the money lenders from other Duchies. Sir dan Marc clearly has a point about these copper-clipper institutions… but this short-term boost could be well worth the future debt.>You currently have [4] Wealth>Corvis & Vale are willing to lend you [2] Wealth, but after a period of three years you must pay back [4] Wealth.===============================================Suggestions for what to purchase at the market will be put to a final vote tomorrow night. >>4440998>depends if we're attacked mid-storm or not. I don't see it in Emile's character to not try and help save people. it'd be pretty OOC to stay under deck if we're attacked mid-stormWell yeah that's what I meant, obviously if we're attacked Emile would help out, no question there. But if there is a storm, and we're attacked AND we fail so badly it comes down to us rolling to see if we're swept overboard... well that's a lot of bad shit all stacking up at once. It's an extreme case I think, not really one worth investing in specifically when we'll spend most of the game outside of two ship-rides on land.>Oh you need 2 mercs for license to activate?I'm not actually 100% sure, I just saw it being discussed previously and thought that was the case. The cartographer license will probably be of most use as we are going to be on a rather long sea journey and the Papers will earn its keep on the next battle since Orin would count as a sellsword.------Forgotten, a quick question for future equipment purposes, does the Master Armourer trait grant a reroll every combat round or is it a single reroll and can it be used with ranged weapons? With the last near fatal accident, I want to eventually give our fae archer a master-crafted buckler if the rules allow it. Since by fae rules, she benefits the most by rerolls. This is me: >>4430260

I'm just guessing here but I'd say he follows us out of respect, both due to the decisions we made when we found him and from what he's seen of us during our journeys. >>4441033>Hes certainly not sworn to us like Sir dan Marc or MikhalHe's certainly not but we also don't pay him, he's not sold his sword to us, he's just a follower. > i'm more inclined to treat him as hired helpWell we do treat him like that but again, we've not hired him, nor do we pay him. The reference to him as a hired blade in the quoted thread was him as an enemy hired by a Duke. I don't think the relationship is the same with us, not to the point of calling him a sellsword.
>>4441038>He's certainly not but we also don't pay him, he's not sold his sword to us, he's just a follower. We actually might. Theres this remark from Forgotten previously which I'm interpreting as our upkeep not being high enough to cost a total wealth at this point. We see signs of this like how we gave Mikhal a fistful of coins to spend while that didnt affect our wealth and its remarked as alot of money for him.>Mikail looks at the coins with wide eyes, mouth hanging open. It occurs to you that he’s probably never had so much of his own money in his life. He rushes off without so much as a bye your leave, bow or even a thank you. Though you suppose the elated ’Yipee!’ he let out might count for the last.So unless theres a ruling that we are infact not actually paying for him, its up in the air. Also, for that relationship with Orin, do look at the second post in that screencap. The possible results on that roll quite clearly indicates he views it as a job.
>>4441048I guess I should weigh in here. My view of it is that, unless circumstances change, Orin is less of a mercenary and more of a servant. He ‘does’ for you, menial tasks and the like.
>>4441048It doesn't seem that we are based on these two comments from Forgotten earlier>>4437247>>4437261>The possible results on that roll quite clearly indicates he views it as a job.He sees it as serving a knight sure but there is a difference between a hireling/servant and a sellsword which I think is the main issue. [1/1]The Port Bounty markets live up to every story of the licentiousness and wheedling alike of Pascae merchants. Having marked you as a rich, if not easy, mark you are targeted by pickpockets and peddlers alike as you walk down the main thoroughfare of the city. Hopeful peddlers find themselves forestalled by the grimfaced Brother Marcel Rousseau striding by your side, whilst prospective pickpockets are met with the sinister gaze of Jess the Kid hovering over your shoulder. One particularly persistent and grubby merchant manages to make it past Brother Rousseau’s perimeter, virtually shoving a gawdy trinket of questionable utility in your face as he screeches the merits of his worthless charm. You restrain yourself from backhanding the copper clipper for his insolence, but only just. Brother Rousseau is more active is preventing unwanted salesmanship from that point and, when it becomes clear you are no regular rich country bumpkin to fleece at will, you find yourself with enough breathing space to actually consider some of the goods that caught your eye.=====================================================Master-crafted Full-plate + Impressive Finery would reduce you to [0] Wealth even with the loan. There was some support for Cartographer’s licence and Sailor Gear but with the other purchase options it wasn’t clear what that would be going with, especially since in some cases that would reduce you to [1] or [0] Wealth. In the instance of Papers of Engagement + Norsikaan Muscle I think it would make more sense (story wise) that this occurs during your stop over at Langland, unless kniggas object.(1) Lock in Purchase options >(A) No Purchase + No Loan>(B) Loan + Master-crafted Full-plate>(C) Loan + Papers of Engagement + x2 Norsikaan Muscle(2) In addition (regardless of other options) buy…>Cartographer Licence>Sailor Gear>No further purchase

It literately pays for itself in just two small encounters. My problem is that banking on battlefield looting and lot's of hired killers is a pretty thorny/copperclipper style that I don't want, the optics of rolling up with merc's and then looting the battlefield isn't exactly pretty. I'd also worry that it would incentivise being murderhobos too much, I don't think anons could resit the temptations of fighting every posible battle when it's also a sure payday to do so. >>4428948Verification

I’m struggling to understand what kniggas are going to do with two Norsikaan mercs during their time in the Dragon Guard.I want to abide by the majority vote, but I won’t do so if it actually makes no sense. I may be more willing for anons to buy the Papers of Engagement now and select mercenaries after your service. Perhaps even other ex-DG looking for a new gig.
