/qst/ - Quests

Welcome back to Tai Lung's journey on the path of redemption. In the previous thread, OP vanished from the face of the earth and left his quest to die. Another anon attempted to keep the quest afloat but life proved too busy and so I gave my hand a try. In terms of the story itself, Tai Lung found himself facing the terrible truth that his life's goal of stealing the Dragon Warrior's power was for nothing because as we all know "there was no secret ingredient". Realizing that he might have just murdered his own father over nothing, Tai Lung fled after sending Po, the current Dragon Warrior, to find a medic to save his father, Master Shifu. Vowing to redeem himself and give his father something to be truely proud of, Tai Lung travels China in search of answers to his goal.

So far in his travels, Tai Lung has freed a group of merchants from a bandit camp and befriending the wise old goat Luo Guanzhong (who unbeknownst fo Tai Lung is a Kung Fu master and original weilder of the legendary Sword of Heroes) and quelling an ancient forest spirit but not without losing the shy cat Bao to it's servitude as priestess. Now Tai Lung finds himself in Soknan city, looking for ways to earn some cash and buy passage to get closer to the Sacred Library so he might learn of the fabled Pools of Contemplation. The pools are said to allow a visitor to study the secrets of their soul in true and utter peace.

Having finished his first errand as a delivery boy, Tai Lung is turning in his delivery receipts and waiting for payment.

You turn in both reciepts to the fish merchant. "I delivered it to old man Wong as you asked. His asisst- erm apperntice wanted to take them but I wanted to make sure Wong got it himself." You explain as the merchant begins to read both sheets of paper.

"Useless delivery boy. Delivers things too fast. Does not follow schedule. Never send again. -Wong" He says out loud then reads the second note, the one written by Chan Ming. "Exemplary delivery. Asks for written confirmation as all good services should. Delivers way ahead of schedule and meticulously checks for correct owner as a good service soon. Has become prefered delivery person. Please send him back every time if possible. -Chan Ming, Assistant/Apperentice to Wong." The merchant looks at you and raises and eyebrow. You shrug.

"Like I said, I wanted to make sure the job is done right. Didn't you say that there was no room for slackers in this city?" You reply with a hint of slyness. The merchant nods.

"I did. I did. Just didn't expect you to be a hard worker is all..." He mutters and begins to rummage in a lock box or your payment.. "Here. Your payment. I added a bit extra because of...these notes and the fact I know how fast you did this job." He hands you a few coins. Counting through them, it's a small sum but enough for a meal and a warm bed for the night. "If I need for you again, I'll call for you..." He pauses as he waits for you to tell him your name.

>What name do you give him?
>Tell him your real name. Maybe he won't recognize you or think you just share the name with the wanted man on the poster.
>Tell him to call you something else (write in a name)
>Tell him to call you 'The Traveler'. People will get used to it and your pretty sure no one else will go by that name and even if they do, they won't look like you.

"Xuěbào." You say quietly as you pocket the money. The merchant nods. "Fitting for a stranger. Having a strange name. Come back tomorrow. I might have more work for you. You keep up that work ethic and you'll find your place here in the city. Maybe even open up your own shop." He says softening as he cuts off fish heads. "Now, if there isn't anything else. I'll see you then." You nod and begin to walk away. Just as you're a few feet away from the stall someone calls out to you.

"Excuse me sir! Are a delivery boy? I think I saw you carrying something off from Feng's place." An elderly woman says walking up to you. "You don't look like one of 'Jin's boys. Are new?" She asks adjusting her thick glasses. You nod.

"Just started..." You say. She nods.

"Oh it's so like Jin to take in strangers. Good boy he is. Shame about his parents though." She says. "Now, if you're not too busy. I could use some help delivering some food." She waves you into her resteraunt. With nothing better to do at the moment, you follow. The eatery is small and a bit cramped but it does have that same feeling of home that many dining places have. In the back corner on a rickety table, are several dozen boxes. Each one warpped in paper and tied down with string.

"You see, with this whole tournament whatsit those boys made some mighty big orders. Normally I'd have my nephew deliver them but...well it's just so many. Could you be a dear and carry some over there? While you're gone I'll just have some of the other delivery boys carry the rest. That is...if you're not to busy?" She asks giving you a hopeful look.

>What do you do?
>Agree and carry some to the Anvil of Heaven tournament area. You'll have your face covered and no one would question you. Easy money.
>Agree but decide to carry all of the lunch boxes. Their combined weight would barely encumber you. Just ask for a bit extra as compensation.
>Decline but ask for a meal. You earned enough to pay for some and find a room to sleep in for the night.

You nods. "I'll take a few." You say taking an armful of lunchboxes and putting them in your backpack. No need to show off by taking them all. "I'll be back for more if you still need help." You add quietly and head out. You take the back alleys once more, jogging over to where you last saw the tournment being held at. As you get closer the alleys seem to empty out even more but the sounds from the main streets increase. It seems that the tournament was garnering more attention than you hoped. You subcounciously adjust your hat a bit more as you get closer. When you walk out of the alley way you run into a street full of people talking excitedly about the tournament.

"Wow! The Anvil never hires other species. Why do you think they're doing it now?"
"You idiot! Don't you see the signs? Tai Lung is free! Of course they're gonna need back up."

"Man, I'd kill to join those guys. Think of the respect I'd get."
"Please. Think of the women. Ladies would love it."
"How about you two get back to work before I show the Anvil I have what it takes to join by beating some sense into you two?!"

You calmly walk towards where the tents are set up and walk past the line to the man signing people up. "Oi! Get in line! What you think you're some hotshot?" One of the people in line shouts. You ignore him and resist the urge to prove how much of a "hot shot" you are. Striding up to the table to place the boxes of food and look at the pig.

"I have a delivery." You say. "Food as you ordered." The pig looks at the box and then at you before rubbing his hands greedily.

"Excellent!" He says and waves a Rhino over to pick up the boxes. "You can go now." He tells you waving you away like a fly and then motioning over another fighter. He doesn't seem like he's going to hand you a receipt.

>What do you do?
>Let him know you want a receipt for your delivery. You can't prove that you delivered the goods without it.
>Take the boxes back. Tell him that you won't hand them over unless you have proof that you delivered them.

"I'd like a receipt." You say. The pig looks up to you.

"Huh? Sorry but we've already paid." He says writing up another contestant.

You shake your head. "No. I need one. Otherwise I won't get paid. It's to prove I delivered the goods." You explain calmly. You grab the boxes. "Sorry but I'll also need to deliver these personally now. In there." You say pointing to the camp. The registrar looks up at you in disbelief.

"As I've already told you. We've paid for these. I don't care about your payment. That's something you'll need to take up with your boss." He says. "No one but contestants can tournament staff can go in camp so don't push your luck." You can't help but growl slightly and the pig glares at you. "I'm sorry?" He scoffs and the rhino next to him places a hand on the man.

"Sir, please stand back." He says stepping forward and eyeing you as if looking for something. "Listen bud. I don't care what who you think you are but when the man says no. He means no." Your fist flexes as you feel your already limited patience slipping.

"Funny, I was about to say the same thing." You whisper back. "So, write me a receipt and let me turn these into the camp and we'll be fine." You say noticing a few more of the guards slowly coming out of their bored stupor. Off in the distance you think you can hear footsteps rushing towards you as well as...jingling of some kind?

The Rhino roughly taps your chest. "The food. Down. Now." He growls.

You growl back. "My paper. In the camp. Or no food." The tension in the air grows thicker and even the fighters around you stop and turn to look at the foolish delivery man trying to argue with a member of the Anvil. Meanwhile it seems that the other guards are slowly making their way to you incase of an incident and the jingling seems to get louder.

>What do you do?
>Stand your ground. You won't be intimidated. Tell the guard that assaulting a member of the city won't look good on The Anvil of Heaven. It'd be easier if he did what you asked.
>Intimidate the guards. Show a display of force. Push past him and walk into the camp. Show them that you're being nice and that if you really wanted you could have gotten in however you liked.
>Wait it out. The guard wants to play the staring game then you're all in. You won't budge.
>Leave. This isn't worth it but they also won't be getting their food. Your pride might be a bit wounded but they have do deal with no food for a while.

You stand there, chest to chest with the Rhino. Neither of you willing to budge and inch or give any lee way. The people around whisper intensely as the tension seems to get higher and higher. The guards around you get closer and the clinking gets louder but still, neither of you are willing to move. Just as either of you are about to move to spark everything you hear a shout.

"Boys! Boys!" A female voice shouts and you turn to see Chan Ming running up to you two. "Alright, let's calm down here." She says stepping between you two and pushing you away. "Come on now love. Give him the boxes." You open your mouth to protest and she shakes her head. "Listen sweetie, I don't know what's going on but this isn't a fight you want to pick." She whispers.

"I'm just asking for a receipt." You reply, failing to keep an image of being cool and collecting making Chan Ming sigh.

"Figured." She says taking the boxes and putting them on the table. "There." She says looking at the Rhino. "Delivery done. Now leave him alone." She turns to you. "Listen, you look heated. Here take this, go get some food and I'll go with you to vouch that you delivered the goods after ok? I reccommend, the Jade Palace. They have some nice soups. I'll catch up with you ok?" She says placing a few coins in your hand and giving you a weary smile. She pats your back and ushers you away before walking back to the registration desk and straight into the camp.

You can feel the looks of all the contestants around you and hear them snicker and chuckle at your expense. Your face feels hot in shame and embarassment but you manage to keep it together instead of snapping and breaking everyone around you.

>What do you do?

While the tournament would honestly be the easy option, considering the feats Tai Lung performed, escaping from a prison entirely guarded by a regiment of military trained rhinos with ONE JOB after 20 years of being out of practice and effectively immobile, anything short of the Grand Masters or someone Shifu/ Po tier wouldn't even be a challenge.

Of course while it is the easy road it is also the road of most likely discovery and possibly one where we don't learn our lesson, possibly letting personal glory get to our head.

You grunt in frustration and wander off to wait for Chan Ming. You feel the glares and looks of the contestants in front of you as you lean against a wall and just wait. A few minutes later Chan Ming walks out from the camp and looks around a bit before noticing you. She smiles and cheerfully walks up to you. "Awww. You waited for me. Aren't you a gentleman?" She teases. "Or maybe you just couldn't bear the thought of owing a lady a favor." She giggles. "Well since you're still here. Let's go get a bite to eat." She says taking your hand and leading you away.

---

The Jade Palace was nothing like it's name sake. For starters it was much louder and packed than your old home. The two of you take a seat, in a corner of the resteraunt. "I love it here. They're always trying out new foods. You can come eat here every day and probably never need to get the same meal twice. Let's see..." She says idly, trying to ease the tension. "Oh! Pork buns dipped in a noodle broth. Sounds...squishy." She mutters reading the menu infront of her. You look down and pick up your menu. The food here was familiar to you at the very least, despite "experimental" meals Chan Ming mentioned. Despite all that's happened today, you can't help but feel a bit eager to get a hot meal that didn't consist of heated up travel rations. Something with actual flavor for once.

"So." Chan Ming says breaking the silence. "What are you gonna order? What does a strong silent man like to eat?" She asks with genuine interest.

>Good question. What do you guys order? (Also chance to flesh out Tai Lung!)
>Order something from the experimental section. You were always up for a culinary adventure.

You quietly read the menu. Noodles, soups, even spit roasted meats were included but your attention lies on a singular dish. Simple meat buns with sweet sauce.

"And then, I did this!" You shout as you preform a spinning kick. "And and then I that I could do this!" You say hopping and kicking twice in the air. "Master Oogway says that if I keep this up, I can move on to the next scroll in no time!" You say scrambling onto your chair, chest heaving as you finish recounting your day of training. Shifu chuckles as he opens a steaming pot.

"I see. And tell me, does your day have enough time for eating?" He asks as he deftly plucks the still hot buns from the cooker and places them on a plate. "Or will you subsist on training alone?" You grin as settle down for a few moments.

"Aww come on dad...I need to train. Every day! I'm gonna be the Dragon Warrior one day, you'll see! Then I'll protect all of China. I'll...I'll make you proud dad!" You say excited. Shifu smiles and seems like he's about to say something but instead decides to say,

"Well then you'll need to eat to build up your strength. Come now. I didn't spend all day with an apron on for nothing." He says then adds quickly. "Don't...don't tell Master Oogway I was in an apron." You laugh now but in your mind you wonder what Shifu wanted to say. Even now, you hope it was "I'm already proud of you."

"Sweetie?" You hear Chan Ming's voice pulling you back from your thoughts. "Are you ok? You're awful quiet." She asks. You nods gently.

"Just...just remembering something." You admit closing your menu. "I was going to order the meat buns. With sweet sauce if you have it." You add looking at the waitress, who jumps.

"Right!" She says jotting down the orders. "Looks like I was wrong after all Ming." She giggles squeezing her shoulder. Chan Ming blushes and waves shoos her away.

"Meat buns huh?" She says awkwardly, trying to collect herself. "Seems kind of..." She tilts her head from side to side thinking of the right word. "Simple? Small? For a big guy, I figured you'd order like an entire leg of meat or something." She teases.

"It's just something I haven't had in a while. Something my father used to make." You explain off handedly.

"Oh?" Chan Ming looks surprised. "Been a while then?" She asks resting her cheek on her palm.

"I haven't seen him in a long time. Too long I think..." You admit distantly.

"Ohh..." Chan Ming coos, patting your hand. "Is that why you're traveling?" She asks. You don't awnser and she doesn't press the subject. Instead she decides to address the elephant in the room. "So...about earlier....what was all that about?"
>>
You grunt and look away. "I was just doing my job. Didn't think China's greatest military group were too illiterate to write down on a peice of paper." You say grumpily. Chan Ming snorts.

"Sweetie, as much as I love a man who's meticulous about his work, even you had to see you were fighting a losing battle there." She says placatingly. You huff a bit and cross your arms.

"I can be convincing when I need to be." You reply prompting another supressed laugh from Chan Ming.

"Yeah, you and half of China I would guess." She muses. "Everyone else is having issues with the Anvil." She admits. "They seem agitated."

"How so?" You ask but Chan Ming doesn't reply. Instead she opts to mess with the mask around her neck and the silence starts to grow awkward.

Breaking the strong silent type to...flirt? We're making leaps and bounds guys. Writing.

Rather than push away the only person who's actually been nice to you from the get go, you opt instead to switch topics. "How is being an apperentice? Seems rather difficult when you have strong silent types demanding to see the owner." You ask, albeit somewhat awkwardly. The years in prison had left your ability to flirt to be somewhat desired. Chan Ming looks up from her drink and snorts trying to not laugh and getting some of her drink in her nose. She furiously rubs her nose trying to get the burning sensation out of it and giggles.

"Sweetie. Don't." She says smiling. "Just. Don't. Leave the sweet talking to the experts." She says amused and smiling. "But strong silent types aside..." She starts as she eyes you up and down. "Being an apperentice apothacary is fun." She says. "There's just something about...mixing ingredients. Weird combinations of things you'd normally look over or turn your nose at that, once combined, become powerful mixtures that can...save lives, cure wounds, help the ailing." She says growing more animated.

"It's like an adventure all in it's own. There's never a reason to just stay complacent. Why stop with what you have when...when the next best thing is just a pinch of something away?" She smiles waving her hands. "Have you ever experienced that? Working so hard on something because you know that something new is just at the precipice of your skills? And that once you reach that top, you see that there's still something else to study or train for? It's exciting to push yourself like because you know that once you become the best, you always something else to look forward to work towards." She looks at you and blushes. "Sorry, I guess I'm rambling again." She says tugging at one of her ears nervously. "I just...it's not just medicine I'm interested in. It's alchemy. I like these things ever since I picked up an alchemy book when I was little." She tries to explain looking at you for some kind of response.

You can't help but smile at Chan Ming's enthusiasm. You only hope that your hat manages to hide it as you reply, "I do actually. Although for me it's Kung Fu. Even when I hit the top I would always think 'Just one more weight.' or 'I can run that extra mile'. Every extra pound or lap was a victory but I always knew that I could push forward just a bit more." Chan Ming giggles and rests her head in her hand once more.

"Ooh...Kung Fu huh? That would explain a lot." She teases. "Tell me then, is martial arts what made you so persistent or is that something you picked up elsewhere?" She says with a grin. You cough and look else where. Truth be told, you were always a bit single minded when it came to tasks. Always had to see something to the end or ignoring everything until you got something done.

"I suppose...I could be a bit stubborn." You admit quietly. Chan Ming grins and sips her drink.

"I'll say." She says smiling. "Last I checked, you haven't even told me your name. So either you're great with women or you've been really lucky. Maybe some magic Kung Fu technique for picking up girls? Especially considering I don't think I've seen your face." She says feigning an attempt at looking under your hat. "What is your name anyways?" She asks genuinely curious as both your food arrive.

"Xuěbào." You say taking a bite of your meat bun and savor it. It was delicious, so much so that it takes a surprising ammount of will power to keep yourself from stuffing your face in front of Chan Ming. Chan Ming giggles and takes a bite of her dumplings after dipping them in some sauce.

"Xuěbào..." She repeats as she savors her food and thinks. "Sounds unqiue for such a quiet guy." She muses. "I figured you'd be named something like Yang or Chen. You know, big tough guy names." She teases. "Not something sweet like 'Snow Leopard'. I like it." She admits and goes quiet immediately trying to hide her embarassment.

"You really like to study people don't you?" You ask amused. "Or does that come with being an alchemist?" You ask eating another meat bun. Chan Ming triest to hide her face in her stew. Even beneath her fur you can see red spots on her cheeks. She seems to think a bit more before answering.

"I only like to study things that catch my interest." She mumbles. "Then I can't help myself...I guess I can be stubborn like that." She whispers almost inaudibly. You chuckle and return to your meal opting to let the poor woman stew with her thoughts than tease her anymore.

----

Your meal with Chan Ming continues in peace as the two of you exchange plesantries and small talk. Once the two of you finish and pay, you lead Chan Ming back to the lady who gave you the delivery job. After an explanation of what occured and a vouch from Chan Ming, the old woman shakes her head. "Those horrible brutes." She says disappointed. "How is this city supposed to welcome guests if they can't even follow common decency? I'm so sorry about that sweetie. If I knew they'd treat you like that I wouldn't have asked you to do such a dangerous job." She shuffles over to behind the counter and pulls a few more coins out. "Here dearie, a little extra for your troubles. I'll let the other shop keepers know that you're trying to make a start here. Maybe they can offer you some more jobs." The old woman smiles warmly at you. "I hope this experience hasn't tainted your view of the city. There really are some good people here. Sometimes they just forget that though."

Chan Ming smiles. "I wouldn't worry ma'am. I was more worried about what Xuěbào here would have done to them. He's really determined to do a good job." She says with a grin. The old lady nods.

"I heard from Feng." She says. "I have to get ready to close the shop but if there's anything I can do for you please let me know." She offers.

Alright asking to about boats and letting the nice lady keep her cash. Writing.

"Actually...I think you should keep this." You say placing the extra money on the counter. The old woman protests.

"Honey, it's alright. We all need some help starting up." She says but you shake your head.

"I appreciate the help but I won't be staying long." You say. "I just need to earn enough to buy passage on a ship so please let anyone who is looking to hire me know that I won't be around for long." Both the old woman and Chan Ming look surprised.

"You're not gonna stick around?" Chan Ming asks failing to hide the disappointment in her voice. You shake your head.

"Sorry. I have somewhere important to go." You explain. "With that in mind, do you know where I can find passage on a ship?" The old woman shakes her head as she puts the money away.

"I don't but you ask around the docks. Foreman Chen would know. Ah! If you're headed there. Then could send him this? Knowing him, he probably forgot his dinner." She says scurrying to the back room, presumably the kitchen, leaving you and Chan Ming alone in awkward silence.

"...so how long do you think you'll be staying?" She asks quietly. You shrug.

"I don't know. Maybe a few days. As soon as I get enough money, I'll be heading out on the first boat available." You say uncomfortably. Chan Ming nods and tries to put on a brave face.

"Well hey, even if it's just a few. At least you can enjoy the tournament right?" She says hopefully and then adds hastily, "Don't tell anyone this but I overheard some of the tournament staff that there's gonna be something big going down in 2 days! I heard that the Furious Five and the Dragon Warrior are coming! They're supposed to help test the potential recruits. Isn't that great?! China's greatest warriors, here in Soknan city!" She whispers and gently elbows you. "Maybe you could teach them a thing or two eh?" She adds awkwardly, with none of the social grace she had earlier.

You stiffen and nod slowly. "Good to hear." You say stiffly. "Maybe I'll still be here by then." You murmer as the old lady comes back out with another food box. She hands it to you.

"Here you go." She says. "Chen shouldn't be too hard to find. He's the loudest on the docks." She teases. "His office will on the far end overlooking it all. It's painted green with a while lotus. I'm not sure why he chose that to be honest." Before taking the box you decide to ask,

"Do you know a good place to spend the night?" You ask. The old woman looks shocked.

"Young man, don't tell me you didn't look for a place to stay first?" She says. "With this whole fighting thing going on, the rooms must be booked." She shakes her head. "Well if you need somewhere to start, go look at the Golden Tea Inn. They ussually have rooms but they are a bit out of the way. On the other side of the city."

"Thank you." You say and decide your next course of action.

Not being on a murderous rampage does wonders for socalizing. I'm still unsure if I want to play Tai Lung as too dense to understand why she's dissappointed or he's totally aware and that just makes it even more painful. I'm leaning towards the latter. Figured Chan Ming and Bao were the first two people to just be nice people. Bao in particular considering she knows exactly who Tai Lung is and didn't demonize him for it.

You look at Chan Ming. She seems to be distant, lost in thought. "Chan Ming." You call to her. She jumps with a start.

"Y-yeah?" She replies coming back to the present. "Something I can help you with?"

"Actually, I was wondering if you'd like me to walk to back to the shop." You say gently. "It's starting to get late." You neglect to mention the fact that her absentmindedness makes her an easy target for would be theives. Chan Ming opens her mouth to say something but soon closes it and simply nods. The two of you bid your goodbyes to the resteraunt owner and make your way down the now empty streets to the apothecary district in silence. You're unsure of what or if you should say anything. The idea that someone was disappointed in your departure was...painful. The only other time that you could recall something similar was when you first attacked the valley of peace. When your own father was forced to send you to prison, and even then you were too angry to be able to remember it properly. Now that the feeling was in full force, you're unsure of how to deal with it. She doesn't even know my real name. You think to yourself as you glance over to Chan Ming. She seems lost in her thoughts as she messes with the mask around her neck.

"Chan Ming." You say softly. She doesn't respond. "Chan Ming." You say again. "Ming." You repeat gently shaking her. She snaps to attantion and looks at you.

"Yes?" She says looking around.

"We're here." You say motioning to the store. She looks surprised.

"Oh. Oh I guess I didn't notice." She says playing with her hair. "Sorry. Thanks for the walk." She replies and starts to head into the store while you turn to leave. "Oh..."She says suddenly and you stop. "You called me Ming." You nod.

"Sorry. Did you not want to be called that?" You ask. Chan Ming shakes her head.

"No...I just...I kind of like it." She says blushing and hurrying back in doors. You look at the door for a bit an swallow the guilty feeling that is rising in your chest. Shaking your head, you head to the alleys and start heading to the docks to look for the foreman. A few minutes into your run you hear the sound of roof tiles jingling and clacking together. The sound seems familiar.

"You're a tough man to find alone, you know!" A voice calls out from above. "Are you always such a ladies man?" It jokes.

>What do you do?

"Not always, no. Show yourself, would you?" You shout back as you continue to run and the sound of roof tiles follow. You can't help but feel a bit agitated that someone has been following you, maybe even spying on you...and Ming. You hear laughter from up above and the person following you speaks.

"Well that wouldn't do would it?" It shouts back. "I spent all this time following you in secret and now you want me to spoil the whole thing. Where's the fun in that?" You tense up your legs and leap straight up on to the roof tops.

"I did give you a choice." You mutter as continue to gain height. At the apex of your leap you seem to hover for a moment and you use this time to look around. Across the alley in the opposite is a rabbit, dressed in a cloak with a hood that seems to double as a cowl that obscures it's face. The remaining portion of it's face is covered in a cloth mask but it's body language certainly betrays surprise.

"Whoawhoawhoa! It's a bit early for that but well...I'm kind of glad. Just hope you live up to the my expectations." The rabbit admits as it's right arm blurs and flicks three spheres towards you! The orbs it the roof beneath your feet and explode in a thick black cloud. You're ears ring horribly and your combat instincts kick in and you duck slightly to change your center of mass. As you do so, you feel something sharp cut into the clothes on your shoulder and nick your skin. Suddenly you realize he's taking away your greatest assets! You're sight and hearing...

>What do you do?

He's a rabbit, so if he cant see us, he'll try to hear us. Once we recover our hearing, take some pieces of the roof and throw them away from us. If he can hear that, he may go for the noise. Then we can strike back if we hear him make a move on it.

We lose our best senses so let's take advantage of our foe's. Writing.

https://youtu.be/Ix6aZ6q8aBc

You cough and choke a bit on the smoke but lie in wait. If your opponent has denied you sight, then you'll do the same. The ringing in your ears is deafening but you restrain the urge to move out of the cloud. It seems that your opponent doesn't care as you can just barely hear something "Plink" near you in. More over you feel it as various sharp knives fly through the cloud and cut into you. The fact you're still in the cloud makes his accuracy terrible so he's playing the game of averages. While the cloud is keeping you hidden, it also isn't infinite so there's only a specific area he has to fire into and eventually he might hit you.

The ringing finally dies down, and you move into action. You scoop up several roof tiles and begin to throw them forward in the directino you were running in, hoping to draw him out. Each time a tile hits the roof, you see something cut through the smoke in that direction. You slowly adjust your aim and move the tiles towards the edge of the roof your in and hop off as you throw the last on against the roof across the street behind you making it look like you lept away. Your jump carries you over the edge and your grab it to hang from it.

You lay in wait. Judging from where the tile hit, there was no way your attacker could hit it from a distance. He'd have to close the gap and that's when you'd strike. It doesn't take long when you see something small enter the cloud. As the smoke parts you see your foe, and in the split second in which they land and leap you pull yourself up and throw your body across the roof. You slam both your feet against their back in a brutal drop kick and send them flying, bouncing as they hit the roof once more.

As the rabbit hits the roof and pings off it, two glints of metal flash and you roll over to the other edge. A pair of knives hit the area you were in and fall uselessly to the alley bellow. "Hope you got your hearing back because I'm not saying this again!" The rabbit calls out. "You're as good as I hoped!" They laugh and to your surprise they grab a few tiles and toss them at you.

You expertly block them with your forearms as they shatter on impacts, just in time to see the rabbit running straight at you!

>What do you do?

Gotta slowly and methodically find out our opponent's fighting style. Writing.

You inhale sharply and dash forward towards your opponent. The rabbit leaps and reaches your eye level before throwing out a spinning kick. You raise your arm to block and the rabbit thrusts out with their other foot for a second kick. Just as he does so he draws a knife and uses the momentum of the spin to preform a downward slash! You hop backwards just in time but even the passing edge of the blade manages to cut open your tunic's sleeve. Not missing a beat, your opponent rolls forward to keep the gap closed and throws their knives into the air. You ignore the feint, and focus on the rabbit as they try to stomp on your thigh. You flex and move with the impact to midigate the damage but the rabbit's feet, unsurprisingly, are increadibly strong. Using the hit, your foe jumps off your thigh to keep in the air. They grab the falling knives and swipe at your open arm! You manage to twist out of the way with minor cuts to your forearms and thrust your palm out into their chest.

The impact is weak but is enough to fling the rabbit back and away form you. Just like before, as they fly away your opponent flings two more knives at you. You stomp your feet to make the roof tiles hop up and you kick them into the air to intercept the knives. "Whoa! That was cool." The rabbit says. "You getting tired yet?" They ask as the land into a back flip and draw their knives again. "Just a bit more." They say as they once again toss their knives into the air in an overhead arc towards you. As they close the gap, the rabbit pulls out another set of bombs from their clothes and prepares to lob them at you!

>What do you do?
>Toss some more roof tiles. Have them knock the knives out of the air and into the alleys. At least then you won't be getting anymore cuts.
>Use the some more tiles and try to knock the bombs away. You can deal with a few more light cuts but if he knocks your senses off again, you're not sure how you can defend yourself in melee.
>Go for broke. Rush the rabbit down and try to pin him! Use your weight against him and keep him down. Then maybe you can get some answers.

I can't tell, but is this a hard fight for Tai Lung?
>>
>>4393391
It's not hard for Tai Lung but your opponent doing everything to even the playing ground. He's dulling your best senses and using the fact that in a knife vs fist fight, the unarmed combatant is going to get cut. When you block, he cuts your blocking arm. When you can't see, he peppers the fighting area so that law of averages means a knife will hit it's mark. It's your skill as Kung Fu master that keeps him from getting a decisive hit or cut. Plus the fact that you've also used his tactics against him. Like staying in the smoke to keep him from getting a clean shot and luring him out via sense of sound. Sorry if it doesn't seem like that. Fight scenes are kind of hard for me to write and make the sound exciting.

You dash forward and leap into the air. Catching the two knives in the air between your fingers, you bring your arm down as hard as you can and hurl the blades at the rabbit's bombs. The bombs are knocked out of the rabbit's hand and are pinned right behind him. "Oh..." They say before the explosion erupts around them and black smoke billows out around them. You land, roll with the momentum, and pick up two more roof tiles as you rush the cloud. The rabbit staggers around and is surprised as you break through the smoke. In desperation and out of reflex they toss out some knives but you use the roof tiles to slap away the knives out of the air. The rabbit scrambles to their feet and stumbles towards you, awkwardly throwing some kicks and getting a face full of tile in response. The tiles shatter as they collide with your attacker and you use your free hand to grab them out of the air. You slam the small figure into the roof and put your weight against them, pinning them to the roof.

The rabbit coughs as the air it knocked right out of them and they tap at your arm. "I GIVE! I GIVE!" They shout at the top of their lungs, unable to gauge their own volume due to their ears ringing. "TRUCE!" They say wriggling. "NO SERIOUSLY! YA GOT ME! JEEZ! LIGHTEN UP!" You don't loosen your grasp as the rabbit struggles and while you wait for their hearing to return you wonder what you want to ask them. After a few seconds you snap your fingers near their ears and they seem to register sound again.

"Talk." You growl and slowly close your hand. The rabbit squirms more and raises it's hands in peace.

"Ok! Ok!" They shout. "Calm down- Ok bad choice of words but really! I wasn't planning anything! I just wanted to see if you were up to snuff." They say.

"For what?" You ask incredulously. All this as some kind of test?! Bombs, knives, and alley assaults.

"Ease up. Come on. Let me go and I'll let you know. It's kind of hard to negotiate from down here." The rabbit jokes when you don't to can see them roll their eyes. "Alright. Alright! I'll tell you this. It'll definitely worth your while. You want money for buy passage on a ship right? Hear me out and I promise that you can earn enough cash to buy your own ship and no one will bat an eye."

The rabbit's body tenses up and their eyes roll back before finally closing and the rabbit is out cold. You let go and start to stretch your muscles wincing at the various cuts around your body. As you look closer, you notice that they're all over important areas like the back of your knees, behind your ankles and one is even between your ribs. Odder still is that all the cuts are shallow and aren't even bleeding. Even with your mastery of martial arts you doubt you'd have been able to midigate the damage that much while incapacitated by the bombs. Putting those thoughts aside you begin to rummage through the rabbit's person in hopes for finding some kind of identifying object.

As you search through their pockets, all you can find is another set of bombs, and many, many pockets for throwing knives. It seems that your bout with the rabbit drained their entire supply of knives including the larger two knives they used for melee. Along with the weapons, you find a small pouch full of coins, and a peice of paper containing a map of some kind. You can't really tell what the map is for as the writing is near unintelligble scribbles to your eyes. You pocket the paper and pouch for safe keeping. Pulling a small peice of rope from your back pack, you bind the rabbit's arms and legs before you lift him up and start hopping from roof to roof looking for a quiet spot to do some interrogating.

The darkness of night covers your journey as you reach the edge of the city and to your destination. The graveyard next to the large temple. You hide behind a few tombstones and make sure that you're alone before you gently tap on the rabbit's pressure points to rouse him out of his sleep. The rabbit stirrs and slowly comes to. As they come to their senses you think of what you want to ask the rabbit.

>What question do you want to start with?
>Ask about their fighting style. Your cuts are too well made to be done by accident or by your skill alone.
>Ask why you were being followed all day. If all this was a test for combat prowess, he had dozes of other poeple he could have chosesn from the tournament.
>Ask him why he thought his rediculous idea of a test was even remotely a good idea. If you had gotten really mad, he might not have gotten off as well as he did.
>Get to the point, ask him what he meant about making tons of money. Might as well hear his crazy scheme first.
>Write in.

This will be my last post for today guys. Tomorrow is my old man's birthday so I won't be able to run a session but like always if you have questions or concerns I'll pop in every so often to awnser them. Also if you have any advice on how to improve or suggestions for story. I'm all ears. I'm still debating on whether adopting a dice system. I'm kind of enjoying the way I'm running it now but I can understand that it might feel like there is no risk of failure, which I'm trying to give with each choice I offer. The way I intend it is that every choice you vote for sort of prevents the other choices from happening.

An example of that would be when you had to choose whether you looked for the foreman or looked for an inn. If you went to the foreman, you would find that there are no inns left to stay in because as you talked/searched all the vacancies got filled. Or if you had looked for a vacant inn, the foreman would no longer be at the docks and you'd have to wait another day. Things like that.

I know it's a lot of writing but we need some context around this mysterious figure, their motivations and goals and how they seemed to fight in somewhat equal terms to a member of the Furious Five.

There wasn't any evidence of the blades being poisoned. If they were, then would our rabbit here have some samples of the poison itself and the antidote within his bags? We could also simple check the blades for poison residue. It would look silly to ask this, and only find out that the blades we're poisoned. If, they werent poisoned.

Ooh, harsh. Few points. They're tied up so chi blocking doesn't really do anything beyond just doubling up on their inablitity to move, plus I think being chi blocked also makes you incapable of speech. At least from what I saw in the movie. If I'm wrong, then more power to you. We'll Chi block them.

You searched thier person already, I think I mentioned they were completely expended on weapons and you found nothing to indicate they had poisons on them. At least in terms of carrying poison bottles. Should they have had an antidote, you'd have found it on them. Assuming he'd be carrying it considering he was mentioning testing you.

And third, last paragraph mentiones you rousing them from their sleep.

Good questions though. I gotta go back to getting ready for the day so votes are open til tomorrow.

We're going to be a very angry person. Just posting this before bed. Writing.
>>
As the rabbit wakes up, you pick them up and push them against a large tombstone. "No jokes. No wisecracks or I start removing limbs. You know what they used to say about rabbit feet. Am I understood?" The rabbit's eyes widen and you can see a flicker of fear, confusion, and finally settling on anger before they finally nod. "Good. Now who am I?" You growl quietly. The rabbit struggles against your grip, but their binding makes their leverage weak and so their attempts to get free are pointless.

"You're someone I'm seriously regetting every considering adding you to my crew." The rabbit replies looking in your eyes defiantly. "I don't do names. Not my style and makes it harder for partners to rat each other out. Of course, your lady friend wasn't as careful with names as you are. I think she called you Xuěbào before you walked her home but like I said. I don't do names."

"How long have you been following me?" You ask glaring at the rabbit. They don't break their lock on your eyes as they speak.

"I've noticed you since we entered the city. It's pretty interesting when a random traveler adjusts their pace to avoid random security checks. Figured you'd be someone who could help. Evidently I was wrong." They spit. "I lost interest when you just started wandering around the city like a lost child. Wasn't until you picked a fight with one of the Anvil that you piqued my interest. Then we met, and I learned you can't handle a little spar with some grace."

Your grip tightens. "What about you? Who are you? Who do you work for? Organized crime? Assassin group?" You interrogate. The rabbit's eyes go from angery to hardened and fierce.

"No." They say.

"What?!" You ask in surprise.

"I said no. I already told you I don't do names. And I'd rather die than tell a sociopath like you about my background. You can also forget about my offer. I don't work with bloodthirsty maniacs like you." They reply defiantly. Despite all that has happend you can't help but feel impressed at your captive's bravery. Most people would cower and offer all they could at the threat of injury but not them. You may not like their methods of recruitment but you can't deny their courage. It's almost a breath of fresh air from the cowardly villagers and bandits you encountered. Almost makes asking the next question hard. Almost.

"Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you." You demand and the rabbit scoffs.
>>
"Please. We both know there's nothing I can say to convince you. You're just looking for an excuse to shed blood. Which by the way, I didn't spill a drop of yours." They say and before you can ask how they knew they reply with, "I have an amazing aim. It's what you do when you spar." They explain, their voice dripping with derision. "All I'll say is that I hope to the Gods that your lady friend doesn't accidentally say or do something wrong. Wouldn't want you to dismember her because she accidentally irked you." They let that remark hang in the air before finally saying, "So...what are you going to do?" They ask coldly.

>Good question. What do you do?
>Untie them and tell them to leave. You got as much as you could out of them.
>Knock them out once more and simply leave them there.
>Ask them something else. You're unsure how cooperative they'll be. They certianly don't have a very high opinion of you right now.
>Apologize? You really have no idea how you can possibly do so appropriately however. (Gonna need one hell of a write in for forgiveness.)

So your "attempt" at recruitment was attacking someone you didnt know the identity too, after they had shown all effort to avoid the notice the law.

Then you are a hypocrite to assume such noble posture as sparring when blatantly using knives regardless of your intent, this is no game.

You are a fool and an arrogant one at that.

Support, after all we weren't the one that assaulted a stranger in an alley with bombs and knives. You don't get to play with fire and then take the moral high ground.
Should we give him his stuff back? Kinda don't want to just to mess with him, he made us run late for our delivery!
>>
>>4395637
Should we give the guy who attacked us his weapons back? Does that sound like a good idea to you? Because I think it sounds like a bad idea to me. I'm personally inclined to do what that other guy suggested to knock him out and see if there is a bounty on his head. Failing that I'd suggested digging a hole and burying him neck up until we can leave by boat, to which would would dig him out and knock him out again.

There's also the issue with him being aware or Ming, and possibly others too on the chance they might predict Tai Lung of doing something to the rabbit so they might kidnap Ming for.... reasons.

Actually, I think we should dislocate one of his arms. It'd be painful but the damage wouldnt be as long term as a broken bone if done right. I want to know if he's all bluster and if pain would break down this tough guy facade he has.

>>

Firstly they would need to have recognized us, which is not far fetched, admittedly.
Secondly as a criminal themselves it would Require them to expose themselves or jump through additional hoops to get at the reward.

By letting them go we give them less incentive to get back at us than we would if we maimed him, And less incentive to rat us out to authorities if we turned them in.

Alternatively we could take the psychopath route and kill them, which is the only way to be sure, but do we really need another burden on our conscience?

I feel we should reevaluate how we proceed, we've thrown away a possible ally with unnecessary threats, we may be Tai Lung but this edgy shit needs to take a back seat, we're trying to redeem ourselves not be a hypocrite. You glare at the rabbit, "So your "attempt" at recruitment was attacking someone you didnt know the identity too, after they had shown all effort to avoid the notice the law. Then you are a hypocrite to assume such noble posture as sparring when blatantly using knives regardless of your intent, this is no game. You are a fool and an arrogant one at that." You can feel that the rabbit is about to express their opinion as usual, and your arm blurs as you snap it forward and hit their pressure points to knock them out once more. You conpemplate killing them, ending it right now would solve everything. But as you gaze upon the rabbit's limp form all you can see is Shifu, broken and bleeding, on the ground forcing you too look away for a moment. You sigh and shake your head before kneeling and untying them.

They had wronged you. That much was certain. But you wonder if you had pushed it a bit too far yourself. You chide them for going to far and using live weapons in a supposed mock fight and yet here you were threatening to dismember them. They were a fool, that much was certain, but now you too were being one. You could think about the philosophy of you actions and who was a hypocrity and who wasn't once you rested but you get the nagging feeling that maybe redemption wouldn't be as straight forward as you had hoped.

By now the moon is in the sky and your chances of finding the Foreman, and making your delivery, are gone for the day. You make your way back into the city proper and wander the streets looking for a place to stay. You try inn after inn but they're all out of vacant rooms. You find yourself glad that the nights are warm this time of year as you sit on a roof near the docks. The sounds of the ocean waves lapping against the shore are rythmic and relaxing as you soon find yourself drifting off. The last thing you find yourself thinking of are Ming's words.

"Don't tell anyone this but I overheard some of the tournament staff that there's gonna be something big going down in 2 days! I heard that the Furious Five and the Dragon Warrior are coming! "
>>
---

You wake up, sore and stiff from both your fight and the awkward sleeping position you found yourself in. Stretching, you glance over to the docks to find them bustling with workers running back and forth between ships and ware houses. The old woman suggested you looked for Foreman Chen if you wanted to inquire about ships leaving the city but you also still needed cash to even be able to buy passage. You finish your warm up and jump down from your perch, ready to start your day.

>What do you do?
>Go find the foreman. Better get a lead on a ship so you know how much money you'll need to raise.
>Go find another job to do. While you don't know how much cash you need, having some to spare incase anything goes south would be a good idea. Perhaps the docks might have something for you to do or you can look for another delivery job. (choose one)

You make a quick stop to the Jade Palace to buy more meat buns. As you travel along the streets you see that there a lot more guards wandering around. You adjust your hat and keep to yourself as you listen in on the people around you.

"Did you hear? Explosions yesterday. Guards are all over the place looking for who did it."
"I heard that black smoke covered everything nearby. Think it was a robbery?"

"Yang I told you once, I told you a thousand times. I don't know anything I was at home."
"Sorry but higher ups want us questioning as many as we can. They're already wound up with tournament. Now they just want to make it seem like everything is under control, can't fathom why."

You decide that hanging around this street is not the best idea and you slip away to return to the docks. The docks were more or less as busy as you left them. Dock workers are busy unloading ships and shouting at one another to hurry up. A few of them are busy drinking on their breaks and more than a handful of them are playing gambling games with the local vagrants. Your search for the Foreman doesn't take too long as you soon find someone who seems to be in the thick of it all shouting orders and trying to argue with another man.

The foreman, a boar, is shakes his head and taps angrily at a sheet of paper. "Sorry bud, but city law says I get to search the cargo before I unload it. So you and your crew can sit down and wait for the guards to come and collect you all or you can sit down and wait for the guards to come and help with the cargo. Either way it stops me from beating sense into you! Now get lost. You already wasted enough of my time." The aligator scowls, moreso than ussual, and walks away mumbling various swears. As you approach the boar sighs.

"Listen. I don't care what your captain says, they are not the most important merchant in all of China and I'll get to their things when. I. have. the. time." He says not even looking at you.

>What do you say?
>Let them know you're not part of a crew and you're looking for a ship that might be allowing passengers on.

You raise your hand, "I'm not part of any crew." You say. "I'm just wanted to ask if there are any ships who are willing to take on passengers. I'm willing to work to pay my way." The boar snorts.

"What do I look like? A tour guide? You want to get on a ship, go talk to the captains. They tend to hole up at Voyage's End. Mostly because it's the only place that'll have 'em." He grunts. "If you're lookin' for work. I can always use more haulers. You'll be on a week probation before I pay you though. Too many instance of people running off with a day's worth of pay because they couldn't hack it and leaving me shorthanded."

You nod. It made some semblance of sense. "Do you know at least any captains that ussually take on crew?" You press. The boar thinks about it for a bit.

"Well...if you're talking to em then they might just leave me alone for a while." He says gruffly. "Alright. You can go talk to Captain Chao." He says with mock emphasis. "He tends to be one of the more bleeding hearts...if ya can stand him. Then there's Daiyu. If she takes ya, you'll probably be sweating your fees off. She doesn't garner respect for nothing, you honor you side of the deal and so will she." He puts his scroll away. "Of course they're not the only ones but they're the ones who tend they're the least annoying. Can't gaurentee they'll take you on or even go your way but hey you got what you asked for. Now, I gotta get back to working with these louts." He says pointing his thumb at the dock workers and wandering off.

You head off to the Voyage's End at the edge of the dock. As you approach the sounds of carousing, chairs moving, and general tavern noises grow. The walls of the tavern cannot seem to contain the noise and the constant flow of sailors coming and going don't help. You have to push your way through the crowd to enter and find yourself watching a very intense drinking contest. Two sailors are in an open space, one foot on a stool and holding two full mugs of alcohol each. The crowd around them chants "Chug! Chug! Chug!" as they do just that. The crowd roars as one of the two coughs a big and swallows wrong before dropping their drink and hacking up what they drank. The triumphant sailor slams his drink on the table and raises their hand in victory as they scoop up the coins.

You shake your head and make your way through the tavern, working your way to the back and asking about Captain Daiyu.

"Eh? Whatchu need with her?" A particularly drunk patron replies as they lean against a wood column. "Listen mate....I saw a way better girl in the market. You don't need her...she's cold." He grumbles taking another drink. You shake your head and push your way past him to ask the waitresses who are actually sober.

"The Captain?" One replies. "Yeah, she's back there. Doesn't look like she's in a good mood." They say pointing to a table on the other end of the table. At the table is a female wolf looking over some scrolls with her feet on the table. She idly taps her boot heels against the table as she reads. One of the aligators at the table seems to be speaking with her.

"Captain, I don't really like staying here for too long. You know how the lads get." He says. "Remember the bail out situation. Cost us a lot of money." The captain shakes her head.

"I know all to well." She grunts. "But a deal is a deal. The crew handled the last shipment well and so they wanted to spend their free time here. I don't like it anymore than you do but I can't very well back out now." She sighs. "Once our cargo is unloaded and the boys have had their fun, we'll load the next shipment. Then I'll work them to the bone." She says amused before turning to you. "Can I help you?" She asks.

"I'm looking for a passage to the Huangshan Mountains." You say. "I was told that you might be accepting passengers. I'm willing to work to pay off my passage." The captain gives you a look and slowly removes her feet from the table. She laces her fingers together and eyes you up and down.

"The Haungshan Mountains are pretty far stranger." She says. "We might be heading that direction but we don't usually play ferry. Are you willing to make it worth my time?"

"I'll work during your crew's break. I overheard you talking about them." You reply. "It would help with your schedule. I can help unload cargo and start loading the new cargo." You reach into your pocket and place the small sum of money you collected. "This is all the money I have on me. I'll offer it as a downpayment. Just tell me how much I'll owe." The captain raises an eyebrow and counts the money.

"You're not offering much." She says putting the money back. "But your offer to work during my crew's downtime intrigues me." She says thinking. The alligator looks at the two of you confused.

"Captain. How much work do you think he can actually do in a few days that an entire crew can't do in one?" He says astounded. "You can't be serious about his offer." The captain smiles and shakes her head.

"You're right. It does sound a bit rediculous but there's something about him." She muses and leans forward. "I'm not sure by I don't feel like he's the kind of person to disappoint." She says then she straightens up and says in a serious ton, "Besides, you'll be the one training him." The aligator looks at her with a start.

"What?" He says in shock and the captain laughs.

"You heard me. You were the one who was complaining about staying here too long so now you get to help." She turns to you. "Here's the offer. I'll take the cash as a downpayment like you said. You work during our shore leave and depending on how you do, I'll decide how much work you'll do during the trip. Basically, the work you do will serve as an upfront payment for your voyage. Once we get to our stop, you can have your cash back." She says.

"Then why even take the money in the first place?" You say amused. The captain grins.

"So you don't run off or decide that slacking off is a good idea." She replies. "Judging by your clothes, I'd wager that you're not lying about this being all your money. And before you ask, food and board is included. Can't have my crew starving. Finally, speaking of clothes..." She says pointing to your garb. "You're gonna have to lose the hat and cloak. This is back breaking work. I won't have you fainting on my watch because you want to keep up the mysterious traveler look. It's bad for morale. Any questions...?" She says waiting for you to give her your name.

>I'm assuming you'll give her your alias. What do you say?
>Agree to her deal. It's a guarentee that you'll get back on your journey and hard labor isn't a bad way to pay off your dues.

"Xuěbào." You reply. "Your terms are fair. However, I'll have to disagree with me having to remove my clothing." The captain raises an eye brow. "You don't have to worry about me fainting. I've been through worn much more in far worse clothing. While that doesn't mean much, I can assure you that I know my limits." You explain. The captain laces her fingers together again and taps the tips of her pointer fingers together.

"Oh? I've heard many a man claim similar things. 'I can handle it.' 'I'm stronger than I look'." She says. "See the thing is, I didn't become captain by believing everything I heard. I know this sounds odd, considering I said I believed you could do a lot in place of a crew...but now I'm more interested in your conditions." She leans back. "I've made it a habit of not trusting a man I can't look in the eye. So the question is...why don't you want to show yours? Suffice to say, your counter offer has caught my attention." She looks at the aligator who makes a motion at her. "I'm a fair woman. I understand we all might have something we don't want to show. If you can make a compelling arguement, I'll consider allowing your request although I won't promise you won't be under constant supervision. You have to understand, you're now a very suspicious individual. And I assure you, if your next response is to argue the fact that your clothes aren't to keep your face hidden then you can turn around and look for another ship." The wolf waits patiently for your response.

>Say that your reasons are you own but that you won't mind extra crew members monitoring you if it means you can earn her trust.

A lie and a truth also if she wants to see our eyes then how about we rip a part of our shirt off then use it as a mask/bandana is that good enough?
>>
>>4398778
he went through that for 20 years too, though I have to admit when he made his escape his exhales did cause mist so...Maybe it was cold at the time of his escape but still even if it's the opposite temperature the conditions would be paltry compared to any work on the dock and we are a trained Kung Fu master, conditioning would have been covered in our training.

A bandana sounds like a good idea, that's what I was thinking, there'd be plenty of snow leopards and I'd probably suggest undoing the 'mustache' we've made with our whiskers.

We can also do it 'Zoro' style to further hide our identity just a tad
>>
>>4398992
Kek well darn too bad
But i still would like a bandana
>>
>>4398997
Yeah, a bandana like that won't be too suspicious. Maybe it was my writing but Captain is suddenly on guard when a mysterious traveler type walks in with his face concealed asking for passage and doesn't want to show his face. While for the average person seeing a traveler with that gear is passed off as "strangers being strange", she's a ship captain. Dealing with pirates, sketchy cargo deliveries, and keeping her crew's safety in mind is her job. That's gonna ring some bells.
>>
>>4398966
>Tell her that you're trying to avoid people who are after you. You want to cross the ocean to start a new life in peace.
>Offhandedly mention something about a dispute over inheritance that you've grown out of caring for and are looking to abandon.
You see, it's technically not a lie. The plot of Kung Fu Panda 1? A dispute over the inheritance of the Dragon Warrior title. But saying it like THIS makes her think that maybe it's some kind of 'my brother wants to kill me to inherit the family business' sort of deal or something.

You sit down and rest your elbows on the table. "I'm trying to be discreet." You explain. "It's a long story but I just want to get away from it all, start a new life." You say. "There are people after me." You lean back and look around the tavern. "You know how inheritances go. It's something you want gowing up until you have to deal with the mess of deciding who gets to have it. Frankly I stopped caring." You sigh looking off into the distance. "Maybe I should have stopped caring sooner. Things probably would have ended up better." You look at the captain. "That's the long and short of it." The captain says nothing and sits up and adjusts herself.

"I see." She says taking a drink from her mug. "You certainly like to avoid the meat of things." She likes her lips. "I can't blame a man for trying to start a new life. Especially if he's willing to leave behind a big thing like your old man's legacy." She thinks for a bit. "If I so much as get wind of someone is looking for you. I'm turning you into the nearest guard or throwing you off into the ocean. My crew's lives comes first." She says. "That being said, welcome aboard. I'll see you first thing in the morning. Or rather, Kueng here will see you in the morning. Ship's name is the Gale Cutter and my name is either Captain or Ma'am. Don't disappoint me big man." She says with a grin. You nod and sit up to make your way outside.

It's noon and the sun is high in the air. The bustle in the docks has died down somewhat now that it's around lunch time. Off in the distance you can hear the roar of a crowd. There's still plenty of time in the day to get things done before you dedicate the next few days to working off your debt.

>What do you want to do?
>Go see if you can make a few deliveries and earn a few coins.

You decide to ignore the tournament. Best to avoid crowds for now. Instead, you decide to go to the apothacary district to see if Ming is free. While you do feel guilty about her disappointment because of you leaving, she is the first person to offer you kindness without any strings attached. You walk leads you past various guards patrolling the area where you fought the rabbit. They still seem to be on guard, perhaps in case either one of you returned to the scene for some reason.

The various stalls and resteraunts are closed due to the tournament and walking down the empty streets feels both eerie and relaxing. Much to your surprise, when you arrive at the medicine shop Ming works in you see that's it's pretty busy. "Make sure you have the fish extract prepared!" You hear Mr. Wong bark out. "And don't forget the salves. This is a big job and I don't want it ruined!"

"I know. I know." You hear Ming reply with a hint of exsasperation in her voice. "I have it all prepared. We've done this a dozen times today you know." As you walk in she looks up in surprise. "Xuěbào!" She says still surprised. "What are you doing here?" She says moving some hair out of her eyes. She seems out of breathe and her hair is messy. At her feet is an enormous bag stuffed to the brim with packages and vials. "You're not hurt are you?" She adds as she realizes that you might be here for the wares.

You shake your head. "Not particularly." You admit. "I came to see...well I was wondering if you were busy. Or maybe if you had a job for me?" You add rather lamely. Ming gives you an apologetic look.

"Sorry but I'm kind of in the middle of something myself. I have to get these to the tournament camp. Funnily enough, they seem to keep getting injured." She says with a grin as she struggles to get the bag off the ground. "I'm sure Mr. Wong has a job you can do though. You're already used to going to see the boss first." She teases.

>What do you do?
>Offer to help Ming carry the bag for her and walk to the tournament camp. She seems rather winded.
>Ask Mr. Wong if you can deliver the goods yourself. Give Ming a break here while you do a quick delivery.

You lean down to lift the bag as you ask. "Would you like me to help you with this?" Ming nods and smiles.

"Well aren't you a gentleman?" She giggles. "Trying to make me miss you even more when you leave?" She teases before she realizes what she says and going quiet. She looks away and mutters, "Sorry. We...we should get going." She opens the door to let you in and calls back, "We're heading out Mr. Wong. Remember, you've already mixed oranges and night lilies. It doesn't make the medicine go down easier! It induces vomiting!" She turns to you and blushes. "Sorry. Let's head out." She apologizes.

---

As the two of you get closer to the event, the crowds get bigger and more and more people are packed together as they try to get a better view. You decide to make a path for Ming to follow as you muscle your way through. The people in your path say less than pleseant things as you push them out of the way but soon the crowed thins as you make your way towards the camp and away from the main arena. "Sorry!" Ming calls to the Rhino guard when the two of you approach. "So many people in the way. We got the medicine." The guard looks at you and a look of recognition appears on his face.

"Hey you're the guy-" He starts before Ming interrupts him.

"Who's with me. Right. My assistant." She says as she walks past him motioning you to follow. "With so many people who need treatment, I need an extra pair of hands around. Official buisness. You know how it is." The guard glares at you but doesn't say anything. Had you been more petty, you might have made a snide remark but you decide not to push your luck and move past him. Unfortunately for the guard, you slightly succumb to your temptations and you roughly shoulder past him.

"Sorry. Heavy bag." You grunt and follow Ming. She waits for you to catch up and when you are out of ear shot she laughs.

"I always wanted to say something like that." She says leading you into the camp. Various tents are set up in a circle around a fire pit and you can see some fighters nursing their wounds. Their faces seem to light up upon seeing Ming but as soon as they notice you they immediately return to their brooding moods as they try to act tough once more. "You can put the bag down here. It's easier than having to drag it all over the place even if I need to run around more." She explains. "You can wait here...or talk to the guys. Just try to not cause too much trouble. Please?" She asks.

You decide to follow Ming around the camp so she doesn't have to keep running back and forth between the bag and her patients. "Well aren't you a good assitant?" She jokes. "Keep this up and I'll hire you on when I run my own shop." She approaches a fighter and puts her hands on her hips. "I thought I told you to keep that bandage on." She say pointing to the fighter's wounded hand. It bore a large gash and was still somewhat fresh.

"I don't need it." He mumbles sheepishly as he's lectured by a woman shorter than him.. "Stuff smells funny." Ming frowns and digs into the backpack to pull out more cloth and a jar of some kind of salve.

"Fine." She says testitly. "We'll use the less smelly stuff." She dips the cloth into the solution and slaps it on the wound. The fighter hisses and tries to pull away but Ming's grip is firm as she begins to warp the cloth with more bandages. "There. Now it doesn't smell. It'll just itch and sting. A lot." She says grumpily. "And if you take it off and get it infected, I'll have to take your hand off. Then I'd like to see you do Kung Fu without a hand." The man suddenly looks afraid and nods. Ming moves on to another fighter and slowly makes her way across the camp. Some of the contestants are simply bruised and are given bits of root to chew on for the pain, others are treated for cuts, and a rare few are treated for dislocated fingers.

"Alright, let's see..." She says looking at the dislocated fingers. "This is going to hurt. Here." She says digging into the pack again. "Bite down on this and we'll do something about the pain after." She firmly grips on the fingers. "Take a deep breath and on the count of three. One-" She says before immediately poping the bone back in place. The contestant grunts in pain and surprise but Ming is already putting a splint on the finger. "Ok sweetie, just chew on this for the pain, and you'll want to mix this into your drink or food. It'll help with the swelling. You'll be ok in about a month. Make sure you see a medicine person before you decide to remove that splint or you'll run the risk of having it disfigured permanently."

Ming stretches a bit and looks at you. "Just another patien-" She starts as two Rhinos rush over carrying someone who is flailing in pain towards the two of you. "Oh dear." She says hurring over to them.

"We have an issue." The Rhino's say placing the fighter on the ground. Their leg was bent horribly at the wrong angle and they were attempting to get away as if they could move from the pain. Soon the noise starts to attract everyone else.
>>
"I'll say." She says digging into her own personal pouch rather than the one in on your back. "Not that much..." She murmurs as she draws a small vial from her pouch and shakes it. She looks at you. "Xuěbào." She says her tone authoratative. "Keep everyone away. They'll just get in the way and I don't want to make things worse." She turns to the Rhinos. "You two. Hold him down. I'm going to try and feed him this." She says grabbing the nearest drink out of a nosey contestant's hand and mixing it with the solution.

>What do you do?

"I'll hold him down." You say stepping forward. "Let the guards do their job Ming. They can hold the people back. It's their job and people will listen more to them." You explain as you kneel next to her. Ming nods.

"Alright. Go, I don't want them interrupting!" She shouts to one of the Rhinos. The Rhino snorts gruffly and goes to tell poeple off and to back off. "Hold his head." She instructs quietly. "Honey? Honey, I need you to stay still. Everything is going to be all right." She say trying to get through but the fighter screams in agony and continues to try to move away. You press your palms against both side's of the person's head and hold it steady. Despite their injuries, they put up quite a fight. You struggle a bit to keep them down, not because of their strength but because you're unaccustomed to trying to subdue someone without hurting them and letting them be worked on. Ming forces their mouth open and starts pouring the drink down their throat. "Ok! I need you to keep his mouth shut." She instructs. "Gotta force him to swallow." You do as she's told and hold the man's jaw shut. "Sorry hun." She apologizes as she covers his nose to prevent him from breathing. The fighter struggles to get all three of you off and to try to breath. He reflexively swallows as his body tries to breath through his mouth. "Ok, we just need to wait. Keep him down, I need to examine his leg. The medicine should kick in soon."

Ming moves down to the fighter's leg and draws a knife from her belt. She slashes at the pant leg around the broken limb and starts to tear it apart. As she does so, the fighter begins to grow sluggish and soon stops moving. "Keep him held down, the drug is just making him drowsey. It's supposed to help numb parts of the body for what I'm about to do. Oh god, I hope it lasts." She says unfolds a tool hit from another part of her belt. "Ok...for starters, that stuff is only for emergencies. It's pretty strong, so I only ever need a few drops if I'm gonna cut into someone. But he's moving too much and even if I used it on his leg, he'll still feel something moving down here." She says pulling out a smaller sharper knife. "I don't want to risk him getting scared and kicking around so it's best we just numbed his entire body and put him to sleep. Frankly I'm not sure how long this will last. If his body thinks its a poison it's going to do it's best to fight it off. That's why you're still here. If he's gonna start moving I need you to hold him down." She continues talking and without missing a beat she slices open the man's leg.
>>
"His leg is too broken to just push back into shape, I need to cut into the leg or else the muscles are going to continue to tighten and hold it in the wrong place. I need...disinfectant." She says leaning back and searches the bag with bloodied hands. Her work continues for what feels like hours as she cuts into the man's leg and begins to pull out shards of bone. All the while she talks nonstop and explains every step she takes though it's seems it's more for her own benefit than yours. You're quite surprised at Ming being able to work so professionally at the sight of all this despite her friendly personality.

By the time she finshes the sun has just started to come down from noon. A board torn up form a nearby table is strapped to the man's leg to keep it in place. Dozens of bloodied bandages and torn herbal packages are scattered around him. Ming removes her bloodied gloves and wipes her sweating face before sitting down and leaning next to you for support. "My knees are killing me." She says and nods to the guards. "We'll have to move him into a tent soon but give him some time. I think he's blacked out from shock of it all." She shakily gets to her feet. "Still need to finish the rounds." She says tiredly.

If you can barely stand you are taking chance of making a mistake and doing more harm than good. Rest a bit. Impressive moves by the way, feels like you're way more than just assistant.

For a tournament, a break that bad isn't something you'd normally get in a fight unless something went very wrong or the opponent was particularly brutal, while I feel our sense of challenge seeking would urge us to seek this fighter out, we've handled the urge to fight in the tournament rather well.

Adrenaline fatigue, you've felt is and seen it dozens of times. No doubt Ming knew the symptoms too. "You need to take a break." You say quietly. Ming stretches, it was rather odd seeing her without gloves and hands bare.

"Sorry just a bit more. Then we'll be fine." She replies. "Besides we're almost done anyways."

"You can barely stand. If someone really needs your help they'll let you know and if that does come up, you'll need your hands as steady as they can be. You should know the symptoms of adrenaline withdrawl. You need some food in your system. You're no help if you're just as tired as everyone else." You point out. "Unless you think you can trust those two with surgery?" You add pointing your thumb at the two guards. Ming snickers.

"Alright, alright." She concedes. "You know, for an assistant, you're awfully pushy." She teases. "But you're a good one." She says stuffing her gloves into a pouch on her belt. "Jade Palace then?" She asks and you nod.

"Those were some impressive moves back there." You say as the two of you walk towards the resteraunt. "Feels like you're way more than just an assistant." Ming gives you a look at grins.

"Of course because I'm an apperentice." She jokes. "I've also been studying this for a few years. Ussually staying up long nights reading scrolls." She scratches her nose sheepishly. "To be honest, that was my first time doing something like that." She admits. "I don't really know what happened. Its like...instinct took over. I mean I've read dozens of papers and studies on how to do it and I've helped splint broken bones but nothing on this scale." She continues thinking back. "I do seem to pick these things up pretty quickly but I just think that's me overstudying." She shrugs and sighs tiredly as you two arrive at the resteraunt. "Still, things ended pretty well." The two of you take your seats and settle in to order. As you two flick through the menu Ming speaks up, "So...how come you're not staying?" She asks awkwardly. "City is pretty nice...when there's not a big military group trying to bully everyone."

Minor hiccup. Gotta deal with something. Will post when I'm free. Sorry about that.
>>
You thinkg for a bit while Ming sips her tea. "I'm...looking for something." You start. "I don't really know what it is, but I feel like if I travel then I might find it." You say. "Do you ever feel like all your life you've been told one thing and then suddenly nothing makes sense? Suddenly you're unsure of what you've been doing and just want awnsers?" You drink from your cup. "I think that's what I'm looking for. Awnsers? Maybe just a new purpose?" You shake your head. "What ever it is, I feel like I need to travel to find it."

Ming shakes her head. "No sorry. I've never felt anything like that." She says. "I've always found my place in alchemy and my scrolls. But how will you ever find what you want if you keep moving on?" She asks. "Maybe you stay still a while. You might end up finding what you want." You shake your head.

"I don't think it's that easy. Last time I stuck to something I ended up in this situation." You say looking out at the crowd. "I don't think I can settle until I figure all this out." Ming stays quiet and picks at her food. You return to your meal and eat for a while before asking. "What about you? Do you plan on being an apprentice any longer? It looks like you could be a medic now."

Ming looks up. "I don't feel ready yet, I could do that but then I'd just be like any other medicine seller. I need something extra. Something that makes me stand out from everyone else." She explains. "Right now everyone just sees me as Mr. Wong's assistant. I feel like I need to prove myself to show everyone that I can be taken seriously." She goes quiet then looks at you. "Maybe I ca-"

Her sentence is interuppted as a young man runs in and up to the two of you. "Miss!" He pants heavily. "We...we need you back the camp. Boqin. I mean, the man who's leg you fixed. He's...he's dead." Ming stands up and looks at you in shock before running out of the resteraunt.

---

"He can't be dead." She tells you as the two of you make your way to the camp. You had left your payment on the table of the resteraunt and left an explanation to a waitress before running off to catch up with Ming who was running at full speed to the camp. "I made sure everything was done right. Everything!" She shouts as she digs into her bags to get her gloves back. "Did he bleed out?" She wonders out loud. "Maybe there was something I didn't notice. I must have." She goes quiet. "Did I poison him?" She says looking fearfully at you. You don't reply. You were out of your depth here and you're unsure of what you can say to calm her down. Instead you simply reply.
>>
"We won't know until we get there. It's better if you not think about the what ifs until you check." Ming fidgets as she slips her gloves back on and the two of you make it to camp. There is a large crowd around a tent but a Rhino guard is holding them back. You push your way through so Ming can make it there without trouble. As she approaches the guard step aside and says.

"We called you when we found out. It's better if you get a look then us telling you." Ming nods and moves towards the tent. As you follow she puts a hand on your chest for you to stand back before slipping her mask on.

I feel as if we might spot something others might not, we know pressure points so we'd know a fair amount about biology and the workings of the body, pressure points require precision, especially to exploit in a fight.
>>
You push past the tent flaps and walk into the enclosed space. The tent is dark and lit by a small lantern. Despite your entry Ming seems too busy to notice you. She's hunched over the body of the man quietly muttering to herself. "Skin is still pink so no bloodloss. Leg injuries show no infection and no extra trauma. Bandages show a minimal ammount of blood." She lifts the man's hand and looks at it closely. "No discoloration or residue on the fingertips. Chance of self administered poison minimal." She unrolls her surgery kit and draws a knife. She slides it into the man's leg, along the place she did the surgery. Opening the leg up again she seems to examine it once more. "No signs of extra trauma. No signs of severe bloodloss." Ming cleans the blade and puts it away before kneeling down and holding her head in her hand.

"Ming." You call out softly and walk up to her. She turns around and pulls her mask down. Her eyes are watery and worried.

"I just want to know what happened." She murmers. "I wanna know what I did wrong..." You stand there unsure of what to do or say.

"Ming...Maybe you should...take a step outside and clear you mind." You say awkwardly. Ming shakes her head.

"No. I'll find something, just....give me more time please." She says quietly. You step forward and consider putting a hand on her shoulder but decide against it. Probably not the right moment. Instead you give the body a look. You're unsure why, you weren't as skilled as Ming when it came to medicine but part of you felt you owed her that much. You kneel next to her and look over the body. Only once did the idea of death scare you and it was that fear that pushed you to seek redemption. This time however, seeing a dead man made you feel...strange. Perhaps it was because he was linked to the efforts of someone you considered a friend. Maybe it was because in a way he trusted his life to your hands when you helped hold him down in an effort to heal him. Your eyes scan the man's corpse hoping that your efforts would find something new. It takes a while as you adjust in the dark but something holds your interest. 8 imprints scattered around the body. Their marks faintly disturbing the man's fur as if the impacts were sudden and only momentarily. If you didn't know better they looked like pressure point attacks but they're too odd and too random for them to acomplish anything that you know.

Furthermore, you're not sure if they were inflicted during the fight or if they could cause death. You assume that the strikes were ameteur at best and perhaps in desperation the fighter resorted to breaking the man's leg to win. If they were true pressure strikes, they would need a heavier impact and would follow specific areas. You have heard of people dying from the shock of pain but you always assumed those were rumors or tall tales so it could be possible the man died from pain.

Asking questions like "whodunnit?" Writing
>>
You stand up again and wondering if you should tell Ming something but you're not sure what you could say to make her feel better so instead you head out of the tent. Stepping out you see that the crowd has dispersed but you decide to focus on indivduals rather than gathering and adressing everyone. Better to not cause a complete commotion right now. Turning to the guard you ask, "Who found him like that?" The guard grunts.

"That's none of your business, assistant." He growls. "Frankly, you're only here because the medic has you in tow. Don't go around doing our job." You shrug unfazed.

"I have to ask. Medical reasons. Don't ask. It's my job." You reply bluntly. Seeing as the guard didn't seem too cooperative you head to go speak to some of the fighters. He growls and shouts something at you but doesn't follow as he's stuck guarding the tent. You approach a few of the fighters to ask about who found the body. Several of them shrug.

"I dunno. I heard screaming and by the time I rushed over the guards and crowd were there. Why does it matter?" One asks.

"Medical reasons. They might have noticed something that could have helped. We want to prevent this from happening again." You reply. Another thinks for a bit and nods.

"I think I heard Fen Fang saying he was going to give Boqin food. Don't think I've seen him in a bit though." They admit. When you ask if they have seen anyone less reputable enter the tent they shrug. "Not really. I was too busy watching the tournament. Besdies, who the hell would be dumb enough to try anything when all of us are here?" The rest of your inquiries are roughly the same. Many of the fighters were either too invested in watching the fights or nursing their own injuries to keep an eye on the tent. Several of them do corroborate the fact that Fen Fang said he was going to give Boqin some food and they heard a scream which is what drew everyone's attention but no one has seen Fen Fang in a while nor had they seen anyone suspicious enter the tent. By the time you finish your questioning, the guard is trying to burn holes into the back of your head with his glare and the sun is starting to set.

>What do you do next?
>Go check on Ming and ask if she wants to head home. You haven't seen her leave the tent all this time.

Winner by one vote. Let's go see if we can find Fen. We're not so good at the comforting and Ming probably wants to be alone. Writing.

With the only lead you have being Fen Fang, you ask around for a description of the man. You find out that Fen Fang is a hyena of roughly your shoulder height and with a scar running down both his forearms. As he told it, the scars were from his final test of his marital arts school. He had mentioned something about mastering pain and having to live a few weeks without the use of his arms. The purpose supposedly was that now that he lived without them he had learned to rely on his other limbs just as well as his hands. You resist the urge to scoff at such a rediculous test. If anything he had made himself less comptetnent by putting his arms out of practice for that long.

You search around the camp, mostly keeping to yourself and trying to stay out of sight incase Fen Fang caught on that someone was looking for him and make a run for it but you can't seem to find any trace of him. Searching around the dead man's tent doesn't reveal anything as too many people have been around it to find any tracks to follow so you do the next best thing and search his tent.

The tent is messy and has his clothes littered about, evidentally the man wasn't too fond of organization but looking a bit closer you do find a bottle of alcohol and several mugs. Clearly Fen Fang enjoyed a good drink. The bottles didn't seem to be a local brew and upon holding it closer, they smell faintly of sea water making the docks a sure fire guess of his favorite place in the city. As you exit the tent, night has fallen. Everyone else has retired to their tent or is hanging around a fire pit to talk. One of the guards walks up to you and roughly taps your shoulder. "Alright. That's enough. You need to leave. We've be patient long enough with your little game and we don't want someone like you lounging around when the others show up tomorrow. The guard can handle it form here."

>What do you do?
>Ask if you can stay a bit longer. There might still be some clues.

You raise your hands in a show of peace and make your way out of the camp. You had what you were looking for and even though the night had fallen, there was still plenty of people awake down in the docks to question. By the time you reach the ships, everyone has already shuffled off to sleep or to grab a drink. The sounds of drunken songs and tavern goers echo through out the night as you arrive. Your first destination is Voyage's End, the only tavern you're aquainted with. Just like in the morning, the tavern is filled to the brim and you have to push your way through to get to the barman.

"What's your poison today?" He asks without looking at you as he rummages around behind the counter to grab a mug. "Looking to get over some sea sickness? Trying to forget a certain lady of the night?" He asks half joking. You don't respond and pull up the bottle you found. The barman gives it a closer look. "Sorry son, we don't carry that stuff. Don't think we ever have." He says.

"Do you know anywhere that does? I'm looking for a...friend of mine. Saw him holding this last time I saw him. Pretty sure he's getting drunk there now." You explain. The bar man thinks.

"Eh...you might wanna The Anchor. Lousy name with lousier drink." He replies. "They tend to stock whatever floats down the sea. Wouldn't be surprised if they just filled fancy bottles with sea water to fool idiot sailors." Thinking harder he adds, "Admiral's Arms might be another good place to check. Dunno if they'll let you in though. They consider themselves 'high class'. You'll need to show some nice coin to be allowed in. That bottle certainly looks fancy enough for it to belong there."

"Thanks." You reply. "No doubt, I'll have to be paying his tab once I find him." The barman grunt and chuckles.

"Good luck with that one. If you aren't having anything then off you go. I got to keep and eye on the drunks." He says and you raise your hand in goodbye before returning outside. As you listen to the sea and plan your next move, you find yourself a bit at odds. Why exactly where you doing all this? You had a plan and even set it in motion but now you find yourself investigating a death.

>Where do you want to check out now?

You mull over these feelings as you make your way to your next destination. In retrospect, you were never one for introspection. In the past might mean right. You were going to be the Dragon Warrior and that would mean your word would be absolute when it came to your decisions. Now you weren't so single minded. You didn't just feel one thing. There was curiosity over those pressure marks. They were strange and confusing. As a martial artist, it was almost like a challenge to find out more. Then there was pride. Though there where none who could best you in the field of battle, you were not so foolish as to think there was no one better in other areas. Not only had you judged her work to be good, excellent even, but you knew Ming was proud of her work. Now someone had, on purpose or inadvertently, besmirched and stained her reputation and you would make sure to rectify that. To prove your assessment correct and to show that Ming wasn't to blame. Finally...you felt uncomfortable over Ming's distress. Perhaps she felt responsible or maybe she never expected her work to be a failure but either way the look on her face stung you.

As you approach and as you are about to put the self reflection away you feel one last thing in the back in your mind. A small voice that whispers, "Because it's the right thing to do..." You shake your head to clear it but you can't help but think back to when you were a child.

>"...Then I'll protect all of China. I'll...I'll make you proud dad!"

The Admiral's Arms, even from a distance you could tell that calling it a tavern was an understatement. As you approach, you can tell that it's more of a gentleman's club. Various well dressed patrons approach and enter the double doors. Various women linger around the steps near the entrance, hoping to snag a patron for the night. Even when you approach the establishment they call out to you.

"Hey there big boy! Need someone to keep you warm for the night?"
"Oooh an exotic man like you needs an exotic woman. Why don't you try me out?"

You ignore them. Even before your journey you never felt the temptation for sex. Your endless training left little time for such things and even then the thought of simple companionship never entered your mind. It was just you and anyone else was either an obstacle to overcome or an asset to further your goals. When you approach the doors, you find them opening for you and a bouncer steps out.

"Excuse me sir, but I believe you're at the wrong establishment."

>What do you say?

"No." You say. "But you are right. I'm not a client. I would like to speak whoever is in charge of this place. I'm looking for someone named Fen Fang." The bouncer raises an eyebrow.

"I see. Are you friends Mr. Fang?" He asks.

"No but he is related to an investigation I'm doing." You reply. "I think it might interest you that I found this among his belongings." You say showing off the bottle. The bouncer scratches his chin.

"I see. A moment of your time then sir." He says before turning around and entering the club and leaving you to wait. A few mintues later the bouncer arrives and holds the door open for you. "Ms. Hualing will see you. Right this way sir...and please don't disturb the other patrons." He says professionally. The inside of The Admiral's Arms is very well furunished as you expected. Rather than the ussual wood only decor of other places, all the furniture is cushioned and the floor is made of nice stone tiles. Every table is adorned with a gas lamp to illuminate the area. On the ceiling are chandeliers, and various uniformed staff wander the table to make sure the patrons are topped off and you see various women of the night hanging around some of the clients. "As you can see, our establishment caters to the more...prosperous side of Soknan as well as her visitors." The bouncer explains, "Generally travellers or the more adventurous types wish to have a drink or socialize in the less reputable parts of the city for the thrill. Ms. Hualing's establishment offers such a thrill."

The two of you head up stairs where the "guest rooms" are and the bouncer leads to the very back where two more ornate doors overlook the hallways. "The mistress is waiting for you." He says motioning you in. Hualing's office is as lavish as the rest of the place with various bookshelves lined with jewels and various ornaments made of gold or jade. At the desk, holding a bottle of wine and much to your surprise, is a snow leopard nursing a glass of wine. A smile forms on her face as you step in.

"What do we have here?" She muses. "Color me surprised to see someone like you here. I've been told you have something for me?" She asks. You nod and place the bottle on the table. Hualing holds it up to examine it. "Ah yes. Good year too. I presume you've come to ask about man who ran off with it?"

You take a seat, "How would someone like Fen Fang get a drink like this?" You ask. "He doesn't seem like the type of clientele you'd accept. Let alone being able to afford such a place." Hualing sets her drink down on the desk.

"Fen Fang is devious little womanizer." She says idly. "He was not formally invited to our establishment nor did he prove he had the funds to belong here. Naturally, he tended to hang out with the backdoor staff. Cooks, delivery boys. From what my girls said, he'd use his tournement as an excuse to showboast. Evidentally some of the staff took a liking to him. They invited him to the kitchens, out of the public eye and would invite him to drink. From what I've been told he managed to swindle a bottle of one of my finest from under my nose." Hualing takes a drink from her wine. "Needless to say when we found out what had been going on, we were less than pleased."

"So this is not stolen then. Well not in the conventional way." You ask.

"He took something that didn't belong to him nor did he earn the rights to it but yes, I suppose he didn't steal it directly." She replies. "The offending staff has been reprimanded appropriately and Fen Fang has been subsequently banned."

"Did he always come here alone ma'am?" You ask. Hualing considers it.

"I'm not entirely sure. Frankly he was the only one the staff mentioned was involved in all this. Had you not mentioned you found this bottle among his belongings we would have assumed you were an associate. Had he come with friends often, I believe we would have found out about all this sooner." She admits. "I'm guessing he owes you something as well?"

You nod, "In a round about way." You reply.

"Do tell." She says crossing her arms interested. You stay quiet and consider your words before speaking.

"I have reason to believe Fen Fang is involved with an incident that makes one of my friends look bad. Something where their reputation is of great importance. He's my only lead, so if there's anythign you can tell me to help, I'd be in your debt. " You reply. Hualing nods.

"I see. Well, I propose a deal." She says. "I'll give you permission to speak with my staff unrestricted. In return, all I ask is that you bring Fen Fang to me should you find this. It should go without saying that I think it's best that the guard not be involved in this. What do you say?" she asks.

>Take the deal?
>Yes. The staff would know better than Hualing. After all they spoke to him directly.

Agreeing to plan. Writing

"If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan on doing with him?" You ask politely. Hualing finishes her drink and sets the glass down.

"I plan on making sure he doesn't steal from us again." She says simply. You shrug.

"Fair enough." You reply. "I'll agree to your terms on the condition that I was never here." Hualing nods.

"Then I think we have a deal." She says and claps her hands once. The bouncer steps in and bows. "Please escort my guest here to the kitchens. He has my permission to speak with the staff as he requires."

"Yes ma'am. Right this way sir." The bouncer leads you downstairs and to the back of the bar. Beyond the door behind it, you're let to a rather large kitchen with at least a dozen people running around and cooking. "Here you are sir. If you need to talk to anyone else, I'll be at the front door." The bouncer bids you farewell and leaves you in the chaos of the kitchen. You study the moment of all the cook and begin to flow through the traffice of the kitchen to get to a staff memeber who wasn't too preoccupied. It was almost like your training exercises back at the Jade Palace. Almost.

Your first target was a woman who was chopping vegetables. "Excuse me, but do you know Fen Fang? I'm looking for him and I heard this was his ussual hangout spot." You lie. The woman nods as she pushes all the vegetable slices off into a pot.

"Oh Fen?" She says a bit disappointed. "He used to come here often for drinks. Then he got caught sneaking out an entire bottle of wine. Haven't seen him since then but he has been banned." You nod. Nothing new there.

"Did he come here with friends then? Maybe one of them ratted him out?" You ask but the woman shakes her head.

"Oh no. He always came here alone. Ussually tried to get free nights with the courteseans. Always failed but he mostly stayed in the kitchens and brag about his accomplisments. Sometimes he would even teach some of the staff kung fu moves." I'll bet. You think to yourself but instead ask.

"Did he ever mention having any issues with the other fighters? He mentioned he was in a tournament last I heard." The woman shakes her head.

"Not that I know of but you can ask the sous chef. They ussually hung out together. I think it was him that invited him in the first place." You thank the woman and flow along the work place to get to the sous chef. He was busy managing the pots on the fire.

"Hey, I'm looking for Fen. Girl over there told me you were friends with him. Wanted to know if he had any problems with his opponents. Haven't heard from him in a while." The chef's eyes light up.

"Oh Big Brother Fen?" He says using honorifics. "He's my friend yeah. Taught me Kung Fu while he was here." He thinks for a bit. "No I don't think he had any trouble with the other competitors. He would always talk about how well respected he was there. Said he would even give out pointers to the newbies." He replies proudly.
>>
"So he never came over with anyone else? No shady characters?" You ask and the chef furrows his brow.

"Hey Brother Fen would never associate with any bad people." He says defensively. "It's a shame he's banned from here but it was all a misunderstanding. I gave him that wine. It was a gift from me." You raise an eyebrow but don't reply over how rediculous that sounded.

"Sorry." You apologize. "I'm just looking for him. Do you know where he ussualy went after he was done hanging around here?" You say changing subjects. The chef thinks for a bit.

"Yeah actually. Fen always mentioned he'd got to the chruch on the other end of town. Says he liked the quiet there and would sleep there instead of the noisy camp." The chef says. "You might find him there now that he can't come here anymore. I was going to check myself but I've been busy with work. If you find him, could you tell him I'm sorry?"

You nod. "I'll let him know. Was there anything else he mentioned?" You asks.

"Well, he would often say that once he won the tournament he would buy this place out." The chef says shrugging. "Only thing else I can think of is that he hung out with the girls outside when he was drunk. So they might know something? I don't think he every got with them." You nod and make your way to the back enterance. It was past midnight.

You make you way to the front where you saw the women calling out to you. As you approach they giggle and wink at you. "Change your mind hun? You won't regret it." They say as they flaunt themselves at you. You shake your head no.

"Not tonight ladies." You reply politely. "I'm actually looking for someone. I think he might have spoke to you. Have you spoken to Fen Fang?" The air immediately turns sour.

"oh him." They say. "Yeah, we know him. Speaking is a nice way to put it. More like got drooled on." One of the girls huffs and pulls a fan to keep herself cool. "Always came stumbling over to try and get a free pass, bragging or promising to pay back later. Pathetic." Another of the girls speaks up. "Not to mention he reeked of alcohol. If he was going to approach of us like that the few least he could have done was offer us some money. Always mentioning how he could take all of us at once. In more ways than one and in detail." The third adds. The air seems to lighten a bit as they women vent. "Of course. You wouldn't treat us like that would you big guy?" The first asks and clings to your arm. "We don't have to be this surly. How about we show you our nicer side?"

"No thank you ladies. I'm sure you can do much better than me tonight." You reply gently removing your arm from the woman's grip. "Did he ever let slip anything else while drunk?" You ask. The women look disappointed and think.

"Well...since you're being so polite while letting us down. I gueeeess you should know he was always bragging about how he had a secret technique for winning. Kept saying no one would be able to beat him but he was always drunk." One of them says. "Don't forget he kept mentioning that he kept mentioning that the camp always felt overcrowed for the ammount of people that signed up. Something about people sneaking in." Another mentions. "But he was always drunk so we just assumed he kept seeing kids sneaking in for a better view of the fights."

You nod. "I see. Thank you ladies. Try not to fall for show off fighters. If they have to brag, then they're trying to convince themselves more than everyone else." You say and the women laugh.

"Ooh such a gentleman. Well if you come back, we'll be sure to treat you real well." One of them says as you head off. You hurry on to the old church area. You were close. All that was left was to track down Fen Fang. The church was fairly large but considering it seemed closed during the night, you assume he slept in the cemetary. You immediately wonder if he might have overheard you last night when you interrogated the rabbit. The realization make you hurry onward.
>>
---

The cememtary graves stood tall in the darkness, as you wander among them. You hone your senses and try to listen for something that would give Fen Fang away. Suddenly everything seems to happen at once. The sound of heavy breathing and running. The sound of something cutting through the air and finally a loud ear splitting screech that echoes thoughout the graves. Your ears ring and you lose your balance a bit, for a moment you wonder if you had been hit by another of the rabbit's bombs but there is no impact of an explosion. Against your screaming instincts, you half run half stumble towards the source of the noise. You arrive at the main path of the cemetary and see what looks like a large shrouded figure kneeling over and old man that was struggling to fight it off. As the old man weakly swings it's arms, you see each one bears a long thin scar.

>What do you do?

Alright, shouting and hiding. Writing.
>>
You dash behind a gravestone and shake the nausea from your body and let the ringing in your ears die down. You lean out and shout, "Behind you!" before pulling back behind the tomb. Peeking out, you see the shroud straighten out and look around. It doesn't seem to notice anything and before you can do anything it let's out a loud shriek, the same that you heard before. At the epicenter of the sound your vision seems to darken and your body trembles in a way you've never experienced. Nausea overwhelms you and have to fall to all fours to keep yourself form colapsing completely on the ground. The shroud's attention seems to go still and you see it's ears flick around as if listening for a while before it leans over and extend a long thin arm with boney fingers. Leathery wings are attached form it's body to it's wrists. A bat. For a few moments you lay there in confusion. Bats haven't been seen in decades, maybe even centuries. You remember learning form Oogway about them and even he had limited knowledge of them.

As you pull yourself form your stunned state and struggle to fend off whatever is going on with your body, you see the bat raise it's hand and extend two fingers over the old man, ready to strike!

>What do you do now?
>Still try to get the old man away. In your state you're unsure how well you can fight. Especially if the creature can do it's shout again.
>Rush the creature. If you can keep it within melee, it might not be able to scream again. But you're not sure of it's fighting style or what else it can do.
>Try and talk to the creature. Maybe you can convince it to stop?
>Use something on your person to help you. Maybe you can distract it.

You have:
A dull replica Sword of Heroes

4 throwing knives
2 balanced combat knives (for melee or for throwing)
A pouch full of coins.

Can we hit a pressure point in our ears to temporarily make us deaf?
>>
>>4405766
When it comes to something like this, pressure point isnt going to do anything. The sheer pressure of the sound is messing with the liquid in the inner ear that is used for balance.

To deal with this you have two options: 1, block the noise or 2, ensure equalized pressure throughout the throat/nose/ear network inside the head so the pressure doesnt pop the eardrums (basically run around with your jaw open and extended).

Ok throwing stuff and moving in. Writing.
>>
You pull bits of fur from your stomach and chest to stuff into your ears. You grit your teeth and try to fight off the nausea as you dig around in your pockets for one of the rabbit's bombs. Everything seems to move and spin but you manage to get ahold of the bomb, light it, and toss it over your shoulder. It arcs over the gravestone and wait a moment. Since your ears are still ringing, you can't hear it go off but you do feel the movement of air being displaced from the explosion. With that singal you rush out, albeit somewhat unsteadily, from behind the grave and rush the large bat. It's a full head taller than you but size never mattered to you when it came down to a fight.

You hunch down a bit to tense up your entire body, and spring up into a vicious upper cut! Your attack connects with a satisfying smash and you follow it up with a spinning kick! The bat tries to move out of the way, but it still seems to be surprised from your bomb and attack. As it's pushed back from your kick, you raise your leg up and bring it back down to crash into the bat's head but it manages to dodge out of the way. You rush in to keep the gap closed and throw a straight punch, utilizing your speed to put as much impact into the blow.

You fist flies true but is suddenly caught in the bat's hand! Your mind reels both from the speed of the catch and utter shock of being blocked. It raises it's boney fingers and puts two together for a chi strike. You tear your hand out of the bat's and throw yourself to the side to avoid the attack. The motion itself sends your world spinning and you have to fight the urge to throw up. As you steady yourself, you not only hear it but feel it all over your body. Another screech erupts from the bat's mouth and you feel the air vibrate through you. Your stuffed ears manage to dilute some of the effect but your body still seems to feel some of it's effects as the feeling of everything moving persists but does not get worse. As you try to steady yourself and get to your feet, you can see the bat slowly- no calmly walk over to.

>What do you do?
>Continue to fight. Try to overcome the nausea that is coursing over your body and go toe to toe with the bat.
>Use something in your backpack or pockets. It might help even up the fight.
>Try and get the old man out of the way. You're not sure how to deal with the bat but you can try to use your speed to get away.

We are Tai Lung, and we do NOT lose or run away! It's time to utilize one of the tools we have that this bat lacks entirely - our tail. Never underestimate the advantage of having an extra appendage over your opponent. Plus tails are exceedingly good at helping keep your balance.

You wait. And wait. And as the bat approaches you, you let your anger and frustration bubble up. You were Tai Lung. Master of the 1000 scrolls of Kung Fu. Conquerer of The Anvil of Heaven's 1000 warriors. Your rage comes forth and you throw your leg backwards and aim for the bat's leg. The bat smoothly sidesteps, and grabs your leg. You manage to wrench your leg free from the bat's grip in time to avoid another pressure point attack. Jumping to your feet, you throw a flurry of punches and the bat does or pushes them away. Your opponent seems to flow through your attacks, and throws a strike at your chest. You lean back to avoid it but the nausea gets to you and you fall backwards.

Years of practice and mastery of your art kick in, and you take adavantage of your position to sweep at the bat's legs. The attack misses as the bat simply leaps over it but you anticipated that. Using the spin of your attack and your tail, you use your tail to warp around one of the bat's legs to pull him back down. As the bat falls forward, you jump to your feet and ram your knee into the man. Your body screams and you feel your lunch rise to your throat but you persist with the movement. You can feel the air being knocked out of him and you follow up your assault with a headbutt. The bat staggers back and you bring your fists up to slam them down onto your opponent's back. There's a satisfying impact as your hands crash onto the man. In your rage, you swing your leg and kick the bat away. It lays on the ground and doesn't move. You roar and run to do a leaping kick ready to turn the tide once more!

The bat snaps to a standing position and it's arms blur. You're stuck in your leap, your momentum and trajectory lead you straight into the bat's hands. Just 3 taps and your body seizes up, causing you to crash in a heap. Your body refuses to respond but your position allows you to see your opponent. The bat idly dusts himself off and reaches for it's neck as if to adjust something only to realize it's upper torso is bare. It's movements smooth, refined but somewhat stiff. It rolls its neck and then it's shoulders. Exactly like you do when your done playing around and loosening your muscles. The bat's eyes look at you with curiosity and it studies you with genuine interest. It's mouth moves as it speaks but with the fur in your ears and the constant ringing, it's impossible to know what it's saying or if you can even understand it. It turns around and hovers over the old man once more. The bat quickly strikes 7 times at the man's chest, each one a chi strike but all in the wrong places. The old man struggles as the bat keeps it's hand on his chest but soon the struggling slows, subsides, and he lays there still.

The bat straightens up again, it's movement now much more fluid. It looks at it's hands idly as it's unperturbed by your presence and then it makes it's move towards you.

Not from what I've seen in the movies. Tai Lung isn't really the magician kind of person. While magic is within the setting, it's not something he knows. To put it in generic DND terms. Tai Lung is more of an open palm monk kind of guy. He can mess with pessure points and chi but can't actually use spells or do dbz stuff. Although his athletic prowess and feats of strength are crazy.

You struggle to move your limbs as the bat approaches. The best you can muster is moving minor parts of your body. Evidentally the strikes against you were slightly off target, probably due to your jump's speed. The crosses it's arms and interlinks it's fingers, drawing its wings around its body like a cloak. It leans over you and eyes you up and down as it studies you with curiosity. Like a someone who found something amusing. It seems to be speaking but you don't know if it's to you or to himself. As it draws it's face close to yours, its wide unblinking eyes staring deep into yours, you muster all your will into your tail and swing it as hard as you can into the bat's face.

You tail impacts with the bat's face with a satisfying slap and the man reels back from the shock and impact. You struggle to maintain control as you clumsily taps against your chest's pressure points. Control and relief surge back into you but just as the bat's attack was inaccurate, yours was moreso. Your muscles are stiff and movement feels delayed from your orders. You struggle to your feet, stumbling back down once before you can stand properly. You can feel the ringing in your ears fade away and you speak albeit still louder than you intended. "Why did you kill the contestant? What did you have to gain from murdering an injured man?" You ask. The bat rubs it's jaw as it stands up to face you.

"Remarkable." He speaks. His voice is smooth yet also feels impossibly old. Something about how his voice speaks seems to strike you deep into your bones. The only thing that came close to similar was the same way Luo and Oogway spoke and you somehow felt they were speaking to the real you and yet it didn't feel anywhere as reassuring. "Once again you stand. Once again you choose to try and fight. All other men would be dead by now, even with my restraint and years without practice. Tell me, what exactly are you? I don't think I've ever seen a tiger such as you before let alone one with your talent."

On another note, clearly this is the culprit we've been looking for and he seems to be much older and while it seems we may be seeing him strike the wrong spots, it might be something even we don't know.
We may be Tai-lung, one of the greatest martial artists in the world, but we were almost defeated by a panda before, this should prove that while we are great, there are always greater.

We may learn something from this individual, even if it isn't taught to us willingly.

That or when he deflected a ballista shot with the bottom of his palm? Dude is insane. Still had to hide from a rain of arrows so I guess he can still be shot if you literally give him no room to dodge.
>>
>>4408625
blocking a ballista shot but hiding from a rain of arrows makes sense, in kung fu a martial artist can focus their power into a single point of their body it is how you see monks being held up by spears that don't pierce the body, Tai Lung just focussed his strength in his palm.

Though one can also argue that he was more going for the elevator as his only way out while also using it to avoid an arrow barrage.

Semantics but one needs to remember the incredible feats he has performed in just the movie alone.

A part of me thinks the only reason Tai Lung was able to beat Shifu was because he couldn't bear to bring his adoptive son mortal harm. Like when they first fought and how he hesitated.

If we survive this encounter, maybe Lung should write an anonymous letter to Shifu telling him how we're doing. and that the mc loves his dad and is sorry. Muh heart, muh feels.

Tai lung has an absolutely insane level of endurance, too. He does exhausting technique after exhausting technique without slowing down. He only shows signs of damage and being winded after a rampage across the city, a fight with shifu, a second rampage across the city (in chase format), and an accidental beatdown from a gargantuan panda.
Plus, you know, his idea of travel seemed to involve running at full speed for several hours.

>>
>>4408647
I believe this also. Shifu definitely could hold his own even in his older years (relatively speaking considering kung fu masters can go on forever and still kick ass) against a rampaging Tai Lung and we've seen that he's absolutely brutal when he holds little mercy such as when he tried to run out Po. So I assume if he had no emotional ties or remorse over how his son turned out, he definitely could have had a chance of defeating Tai Lung or at the very least severely injure him. What shifu has over the five in terms of holding his own against Tai Lung is years if not decades of practice and mastery. The Five are prodigies in their own right sure but it seems only in their specific fighting style. Tai Lung is a genius prodigy the likes that haven't been seen in generations considering his feats. After all if I recall correctly he was the first, not the fastest or one of, but the first to master the 1000 scrolls of kung fu from the Jade Palace. It's no real surprise that he thought he would be the Dragon Warrior. With that in mind, what level of potential would Po have?
>>
>>4408654
I'm not all too sure about Po's potential. All I know is that he's got panda Chi and something. Whatever the case he was strong enough to defeat Tai Lung, at least a semi-exhausted one.

The plan that the heavens have in store for me remains to be seen - all will be revealed when I reach my destination." You roll your shoulders and push past your aching pains to jab yourself in the chest four times. Your muscles relax even more and you point straight at the man before you and you draw your replica sword. "I'm a man walking the road to redemption, the man who has been searching for you, for your actions against murdering an injured man who ruined the reputation of someone we care for. So...I'll ask you again. Who or what are you?"

The man unlinks his hands and claps. "A fighter, a philosopher, and a showman. Truely you are unique among the rabble." He says. "As your confusion seems to imply, it seems like my people are even less known than they used to be. Tell me do you people no longer fear the dark? I presume your royalty is of another species. However for your brilliant display of versitility. I will give you my name so that your ancestors may know fear once more when you tell them how you fell, He Ling." He opens his arms and takes a stance ready to strike. "Now. What shall I take from you? Whatever it will be I hope you put in the same amount of effort as you have been before." With a shout you throw yourself at He Ling as well and the two of you clash in midair under the moonlight sky. You thrust your palm out to preemptively block He Ling's attack at the forearm. In return he places his foot in your chest and shoves you back down to earth. You toss your blade down and when it embeds itself into the ground you land on the hilt, backflip, and pull it from the ground to create space. He Ling's wings spread wide and he glides into a cockscrew towards you. You barely have enough time to raise your blade and slam it, flatside, into the bat's face. The impact shoves you back a bit and you quickly snap your leg upwards, slamming your heel into the bat's chin.

He Ling flies backward fliping in mid air and crashes into a gravestone shattering it. The bat rises from the rubble but you're already in motion, running on all fours. You keep your blade infront of you, parrying his attemtps to Chi strike you. Slapping away one of the bat's arms away with your sword, you crossup but using your free hand to palm strike him across the cheek. He Ling rolls with the impact and uses the spin two swing his leg and roundhouse you. The strike sends you flying into another grave stone. He Ling flaps his wings, sending himself hurtling towards you. Keeping himself airborn, he throws out a barrage of kicks each one knocking you back down into the ground. You grab a peice of stone next to you and hurl it at him. Though he deflects it with a swing of his arm, it buys you enough time to roll out of the way and create some space. The bat flies towards you and uses it's wing to try and clothesline you. You manage to raise your arms to defend but the impact itself knocks you off your feet. He Ling soars over the broken graves, spins in midair and uses the spin to fling two large chunks at you. One strikes you in the chest winding you but you manage to crush the other in your grip.

The bat lands and opens his mouth to screech again but this time you're ready. In one motion you run, scoop up some dirt and throw it at the bat. It may be a cheap attack but right now you don't have the luxury to stick to traditional fighting. The dirt strikes the bat's face and he spits and rubs at his mouth and eyes. Before he can do anything else, his ears twitch to one side and he seems to slap at something in the air. It takes you a few seconds but you notice the small glint of metal on the ground. Two throwing knives.

"You really really are trouble you know that." A familiar voice says and someone lands next to you. "More to the point. What the hell is that?" The masked rabbit asks drawing two more between his fingers.

"He Ling, a martial artist that may well be as good as Oogway was. Don't let him get close to you, his chi strikes can paralyze with ease." You say. The rabbit throws their knives at the bat which are easily deflected.

"That doesn't explain anything!" They shout as the two of you roll out of the way when He Ling lands between the two of you and engages you. You move in and throw a kick. He Ling raises his leg to block your and the rabbit leaps, throws some more knives. Once again, He Ling's ears flick in the direction of the toss and he twists away roundhousing the rabbit and back handing you in the process. The knives still manage to strike but only inflict shallow cuts on the bat's side and leg. You plant your hands on the ground and cartwheel back on your feet. "I'm starting to run out of knives!" The rabbit mentions as they roll to their knees and snagging a pair off the ground. "I don't know what the hell this guy is but if you don't want to get caught we either need to take him down soon or get out. This noise is gonna attract the guards or someone else." The rabbit shouts as their arm blurs and the knives fly. He Ling's hand snaps up and catches the knives out of the air.

"Interesting. A fighting style focused around projectile weaponry." He says weighting the weapons. "It certainly has it's merits. I'll enjoy testing it out once I draw it out of you." He drops the knives as you jump in and swing your sword down on him. He side steps and goes to hit you with Chi strikes but you slam the blade into the ground to bury it and use as leverage to flip over his arm. Your rabbit ally leaps in and jump kicks He Ling in the face before boucing off into a series backflips. The two of you land behind the bat and get to your feet.

"How much can he take?" The rabbit asks drawing one throwing knife. "Last blade." They explain. "If you got any ideas Mr. Sociopath. Now's the best time to hear it."

>What do you do?
>Stall He Ling. If what your ally says it's true then more guards are going to come. Even He Ling can't take on a city's worth of guards...hopefully.

Escape while we still have the chance. Let’s set off every bomb both of us have at once, pin He Ling by the clothes with our last projectiles (tai lung has a few throwing knives), and get the hell out of there. "We make an opening. Then we follow my lead." You say digging into your pocket and tossing the rabbit your 4 knives. "Use everything you got. Spare no resource." The rabbit snatches the knives out of the air and holds one inbetween their thumb and pointer finger with the rest held loosely in their palm. The two of you stand up and get ready.

"That's it?" They ask. "You don't have any other plan?" You nod.

"Don't miss." You say and dash towards He Ling. You're opponent moves in to engage but you drop to your knees and slide on the grass. The rabbit throws a knife and as you slide past He Ling. You scoop up your sword and flip on to your feet. "Now!" You shout drawing a smoke bomb, "Everything you got!" Your ally readies his knives and you toss all a bomb right at the bat's feet. Smoke billows and the knives fly into the cloud. You ready another and for the first time in a long while, hope for some good luck as you hurl the last smoke bomb you have striaght where the bat's head was. All your ears can hear is the another "poof" from the smoke bomb going off and the sounds of intense coughing followed by a sickening sound of bone breaking. The smoke cloud moves and you see the rabbit flying through the air, arm swollen and slightly bent wrong. You leap to grab them and run off.

"Ugh, he got me good. Won't be using those legs for a while though. So I call that an even trade." The rabbit says, their mask growing slightly darker. "Now what?" They ask. Your reply by tearing off some of their loose fur and stuffing it in their ears. "Hey! Hands to yourself!" They shout and are interrupted by the sound of another screech. The sound makes your ears ache but thankfully the distance between you and the bat as well as the makeshift earplugs dampen the effect. "Alright never mind." The rabbit replies. You look back to see the cloud of smoke blasted away by a gust of wind and He Ling flapping his wings and tearing through the knives pinning him to the ground. "That's...that's not good." The rabbit says.

"He'll follow us by the sounds we make. In case you haven't noticed him tracking your knives that way." You reply. The rabbit rolls it's eyes and winces in pain.

"Ok. So then we just deafen him with a noise bomb right?"

"Tried it. Didn't work." You reply leaping on to a rooftop and running through the city. "Got an idea though."

"Hopefully it doesn't involve us running at him." The rabbit says keeping an eye on the skies.

"We just need to go somewhere with a lot of noise to cover ours." you reply. "The docks should work. Tons of waves, tons of people and drunks shouting. We can blend in near a tavern."

"Right, because I'm sure I can blend in wearing this." The rabbit replies motioning to their body with their good hand. "A boat can work. If we stowaway in there the sounds of the waves and the wood should help insulate the noise we make." Another shriek peirces the skies. "You might want to make that decision soon."

Is the rabbit's arm broken or dislocated? Can we reset it?

Take a note from the panda's book: find some fireworks, and spam fireworks at him. Mostly the flashy and noisy ones. That might give us an opening, or at least Tai Lung. Where does Rabbits get his noise bombs and does he know where to acquire fireworks?

>>4409878

Would we not be revealing our identity to not only the Rabbit, but Ming as well? We wont be able to so easily sneak our way into town without a disguise, in addition to putting Ming in danger if the bat is able to track us down. Ming's home isnt as noisy as the docks.
>>
>>4410065
Rabbit's arm is broken and they're spitting blood. They took a bad hit pinning He Ling down. As for the bombs, they don't have any on their person.

Fireworks are not something I considered but they would pack a punch. Hell of a lot louder and brighter than what Tai Lung or rabbit have on them. Finding some? Not an issue. The Five are set to arrive in a few hours so it wouldn't be too far fetched to assume the tournament grounds or a nearby shop to have them. Bearing in mind using them is going to draw just as much attention and your only ally is down one arm at a glance. But hey big risk, big reward right?

He relies on echolocation. Echolocation gives a snapshot “image” of the shapes of things in the area.
A dummy would be more useful than you think, and it would be in motion from the throw.

I don't think you have the right priorities whatsoever.
There's a lifestealing super-martial artist bat on the look for us. Our identity is the least of our worries right now, especially in regards to a criminal rabbit who chose to dive into danger way above his league.
Hell, the rabbit probably saw us trying to defend the old man. So I doubt he'd give us up to the authorities after seeing that.
>>
>>4410971
Theres no real issue to knocking out the rabbit regardless as he is more or less incapacitated in this fight, and knocking him out by hitting a pressure point wouldnt take more than half a second. Are you saying you are fore revealing Tai Lung's identity?
>>
>>4410979
The rabbit knows the city better than we do. He'd know the best routes that would be the trickiest to follow, flight regardless.
I think he's more beneficial conscious than unconscious.
>>
>>4411011
If what you say about echolocation holds true, then it wouldn't make all that much of a difference if we go through allies or take shortcuts through buildings since He Ling would have an idea of where we are if can't already tell where we are within the city's proper.
>>
>>4411076
Echolocation doesn't do very well at penetrating solid objects, though. It bounces off of them.
So going through buildings and through alleys with overhangs actually would have a benefit, assuming He Ling can manage to find the direction we went after the trick.
I'm also willing to bet that the rabbit might have a hiding spot or two dozen, so we could try asking him if he has quick hideaways in the city.

an act of "hur dur muh edgy oc" shouldn't be confused with being practical. How is knocking him out edgy?
>>
>>4411157
Because do you have any idea what kind of situation we're in? the case of our identity being kept hidden isn't good enough anymore, by knocking him out not only do you throw away the same potential ally AGAIN but you put him in danger, the bat is as interested in him as he is us, safety in numbers and he clearly knows the city far better than us, you're being an edgy derailing cunt and need to either lurk moar or fuck off.

>Go to the tournament area.
We've been there so maybe we've seen some fireworks. The other fighter can act as fodder and a distraction until we find what we need, or someone points out the fireworks to us.
We can get his armed healed after we beat up the evil bat.

>>4412063
We can just, leave him in the medical tent back at the tournament, or ask us where he would like us to leave him so he can stay out of this fight. I think only his arm was broken, so he should have enough limbs to limp away to find some back alley bone doc. If we brought him with us to Ming's place we might endanger her.
>>
>>4411980
You probably already know my vote - visit ming.
Gotta get that arm fixed up.
>>
>>4412157
the problem with leaving him there is that we dont know if the bat is only after us
the bat could go into the medical tent and risk even more lifes
this can be prevented by getting his arm fixed by ming while the bat is distracted
>>
>>4412382
also splitting up sounds like a very bad idea right now we need all the help we can get

Another screech explodes above the city as you two run from roof to roof. "So?" The rabbit asks looking at the skies behind you. "We can do with a decision right now!" You look around. There was still a ways until you reached the docks and you weren't sure how you'd manage to evade He Ling until you got there.

"Alright new plan. We need to get that arm fixed." You say.

"Really? We're going to see a doctor right now of all times!?"

"I know someone. I...I trust them. We just need to buy ourselves some time." You reply as you start to remove your cloak and hat.

The rabbit's eyes widen. "Holy...you're...You are a crazy bastard." They say with a grin in their eye. "Alright TL. Let's see how we get out of this one."

"We need to make a decoy." You jump down into an alley and begin to rummage around for things to stuff the clothes and keep it propped up. "It seems like he uses sound to track us."

"That much is obvious but how's a dummy gonna help us?"

"It's more than that. Back when I was tracking him, he seemed to know my hiding place after he screeched. I was behind a tombstone but he didn't know exactly where I was just the general location even after I had shouted. He did it again when I tried to use a noise bomb and surprised him." You explain grabbing some clothes off a hanging wire and wrapping your face. "So maybe he uses the screeches to to pin point where his enemy is. It's probably how he figured out where you were in the smoke."

"So it's like an aura thing then?" The rabbit asks.

"Maybe? We can set a dummy up on the roofs. He'll see it and thing its me. While he's charging it we sneak off." You reply. The rabbit shrugs.

"Good enough for me. You're gonna murder me after all this probably for seeing your face." They mutter. "So I'm dead in the water."

"I'm taking you to a doctor you know that?"

The rabbit shrugs. "Well it's a step above dying to whatever the hell is chasing us." They half joke.

"So...why did you help me?" You ask as you leap onto a roof.

"Can we bond after we're safe from the monster?"

You nod and plant the decoy on the roof before you slide down into an alley. Another shriek rings out and you press against a wall as much as you can. Once the sound seems to start to fade away, you dash off to Ming's shop. A crash is heard from the building behind you and you pick up the pace. It takes a minute or so before you're standing infront of Mr. Wong's shop. "Well? What are we waiting for?!" The rabbit hisses. "Let's go in!"

>How do you enter?
>Kick the door down. No time for subtly, you need to get out of the streets.

Asking to pick the lock. Writing.
>>
"Can you pick the lock?" You ask. The rabbit gives you a look.

"Yes. Yes I can." They reply digging into a pocket with their good hand. "You're lucky I still have my good arm...well they're both my good arms but you get the point." They say hopping leaning forward and picking the lock. "Simple stuff." They mutter and a quiet click is heard. The door swings open and you two quickly slip inside. You close the door behind you and lock the door again. Outside you hear the faint noise of flapping. Neither of you say a word as the both of you kneel stock still. The both of you eye the windows, wanting to move away but not wanting to make any noise incase it gives your position away. He Ling lets out another shriek and the windows rattle violently but manage to hold. After a while, you hear the sounds of wings fly away.

Just as the two of you breathe a sigh of relief, a light enters the room. From behind, the counter you see Ming wander around in a nightgown, rubbing her eyes and looking around confused. She steps into the main area and see the two of you. Before she can scream you dash forward and clamp your hand around her mouth. "Shh!" You say. "It's me." Ming's eyes widen and she nods slowly. You release her mouth gently.

"Xuěbào?" She whispers hoarsely. "What are you doing here? Why are you dressed like that?"

"Not now Ming." You say. "We need a place to hide. Is there anywhere we can lay low?"

"We?" She asks confused before noticing your companion.

"Yo." They say waving their good arm.

"You're hurt!" Ming gasps and runs up the rabbit. "Broken arm." She mutters. "Alright come to the back room." She says leading you two to the back of the store. The back of the store is an open room with a long table in the center. The walls are lined with racks of herbs giving the place a faint smell. "Ok. Just sit on the table. You'll have to remove your masks and shirt." She says. The rabbit gives you both a look. "Listen, you're bleeding through your mask. I need to be able to check your face to see if it won't kill you. And if your bleeding this badly from your face then I need to see if you're ok everywhere else."

"You trust her?" They ask.

"Yes I do. Otherwise we wouldn't be here." You reply and the rabbit grumbles.

"Better than dying from mouth bleeding." They mutter as they remove their mask and shirt revealing a very...plain and andgroenous looking rabbit. You're not sure whether to be confused, surprised, or upset. You still can't tell if they're a male or female. It's almost if everything about this person was tailor made to be unnoticable. "What?" They ask. Ming seems unfazed and looks at you.

"So what happened?" She asks.

You reach out and pet the rabbit. You want to be able to say you're not sure why but you know it's because you find the rabbit rather cute without the gruff thief gear. Their fur is soft and their large ears feel nice to play with. "Hey! Dude, what are you doing?" The rabbit shouts batting away your hand. "Knock it off. That's...weird." They say. Ming gives you a weird look. You cough and look away.

"Sorry." You mumble. "Just...nevermind." Wanting to change the subject you ask. "So who exactly are you?" You ask. "Are you a boy or a girl? Some kind of magic? You're just so...normal. Too normal." You say. "I don't even know your name."

"You don't even know their name?" Ming asks in surprise as she puts a splint on the rabbit's arm. "Your arm is broken but it looks like a clean break. Don't use it and it'll be good as new in a few weeks. Now open wide, I want to see what's going on in your mouth." She asks. The rabbit holds up their hand.

"I already told you. I don't do names." They say looking around at the two of you. They sigh. "Alright. I'll cut you a deal. You tell your lady friend your details and I'll spill mine. At the very least, I'll tell you that I'm whatever the job needs me to be. If it needs a girl then I'm a girl. If it's a boy then it's a boy." They shrug. "I don't particuarly favor either one. But you meant which I was born right?" The rabbit waggles it's finger and grins. "Spoilers." Ming sticks her thumb into the Rabbit's mouth.

"Xuěbào?" She asks. "What is going on? Why are you two talking like this? Why am I taking care of a rabbit who doesn't want to give me their name or if they're a boy or girl?"

You sigh and rub your temples. "Alright..." You says quietly. "Ming, we're being chased by a bat."

"What's a bat?" She asks.

"Apperantly it's a very old person. Older than Rabbits and Cats and Snow leopards." You explain. "I was looking for who killed Boqin. When I first saw him in the tent, his death looked too...strange. I noticed weird pressure strikes on his chest but I didn't want to get your hopes up that it wasn't your fault. So I did some investigating. It lead me to another fighter named Fen Fang. While looking for him, I ran into the bat. He had killed someone and we got into a fight." You motion to the rabbit who's mouth was being examined. "Then they showed up to help. The bat's name is He Ling. He seems to be able to steal the life out of people with a touch. We only managed to escape. You were the only person I thought who could help heal us. I'm sorry. If He Ling finds out we're here, he may go after you."
>>
Ming looks at you. "Who are you? Who are either of you really?" She asks getting upset. "Old creatures? Life stealing? I had a man die in my care and now you're telling me some ancient monster person just used Kung Fu to kill them?" She glares at the rabbit. "You sliced your tongue open with one of your teeth. Chew on this and it'll help stop the bleeding. Don't eat anything acidic or spicy or you'll be in for a bad time." She says trying not to cry and stuffing the rabbit's mouth with a crushed herb.

The rabbit gags a bit and bats away Ming's hand. They remove the herbs from their mouth and says, "Deal's still on the table. If you say no, well you know I can't go around blabbing." They give you a look that says it all. She deserves to know.

You take a deep breath to relax and pet the rabbit again. "Damn it... I actually like my hairstyle you know." They say as they bat your hand away again. You flick one of their ears playfully and step back.

"My name is Tai Lung." You say removing your face wraps and dropping them. "Scourge of the Valley of Peace, conquerer of The Anvil of Heaven's 1000 troops and the man who defeated the dragon warrior and nearly killed his own father. I spent all my life training to be the Dragon Warrior but when the title wasn't given to me, I rampaged out of control. I spent 20 years in prison plotting my revenge only to realize my entire life was spent after a pointless endevour. Now I'm on the run, working to make my way to the fabled Pools of Contemplation. I lied about who I was because I can't be deterred from my quest but I also don't want those who help me to be caught up in the trials or to be persecuted for helping me."

Ming backs up confused. "But I...you helped me...I trusted you." She says. "Everyone says you're evil...there's posters..." She covers her mouth as she sinks to the ground. The rabbit hops down and pets Ming on the shoulder.

"Hey...it's gonna be alright. You're better off knowing if your gonna be hanging out with us. At least for tonight." The rabbit says. "Listen, Tai Lung here is...well he's really rough around the edges. Threatened to- erm..." The rabbit looks at you. "We'll save that for some other time but the point being is that he's trying. Guy spent all day running around the city trying to figure out who killed that fighter."

"You were following me again?" You ask.

"No. I heard the other fighters talking about it." The rabbit says. "The point is that he's trying. I can't tell you what to do but think of it this way. If he wanted something and he really was as bad as they say, why would the guy go around doing things the hard way instead of taking things by force?" They ask. The rabbit looks at you to add something mouthing, "You totally owe me for being your wingman."

If it helps, we haven't killed anyone in twenty. Wait. No we killed a lot of anvil guys. We haven't broken our murder sobriety in a while. We've also helped some people but I'm not sure if she's interested in hearing about them.
Okay we didnt kill anyone in a month nor the dragon warrior and the furious five when we had the chance. That has to mean something. We're on a quest of self discovery, and enlightenment.

Joke speech aside, words might not be enough. Least not now. We need to leave soon so we can deal with He Ling, in case he wishes up and finds us, or starts rampaging as the worst outcome. For what it's worth, we can prove our point through actions.
Ask for some cotton balls to stuff our ears with, and where is the closest source of fireworks.

"I...I'm sorry." You say. "I never meant for this to happen. Most people tend to look past me, ignore me. They think I'm just a wanderer. It's for the best and I suppose I am. But you stuck around." You explain. "You asked questions, wanted to get to know me." You sigh and run your hand over your head. "I was evil. Oogway knew that...and maybe I still am. I don't know. All that I ask is that you hold on to the truth and if you're willing to give me the chance to prove myself."

Ming stays quiet and doesn't respond. The rabbit looks at you and shrugs. "You said your bit. Can't really do much more than that." They hop back on the table and adjusts their injured arm. "Not sure if it's a good time but I'm not gonna have you hang a favor over my head." They say tugging at their ears. "Sounds weird but I didn't grow up with a name. Not my people's style." They grunt and backtrack. "Alright better explain that. I used to belong, emphasis on *used* to, to an assassin group known as The Hēishǒu also known as The Sisterhood of Ash, Brotherhood of Shadow, ect ect. We had tons of names, none of them our own. To have a name means to give your targets something to look out for. We didn't do the whole drive fear into our targets bit. Amatuers do that. Our deeds were our calling card, the corpses advertisement. Our group keep their ears to the ground. Our clients didn't call us, we called them. Well we used to. See the issue arised with me. Specifically my generation of the group. I don't have the whole story but from how I was raised and what little I heard, my group didn't like it. The reason I look like this is because I was bred to be this way. Everyone one of my group was. Those that didn't fit whatever criteria our seniors had were probably killed off. You can see where this is going." The rabbit sits down. "We were the best of the best. Bred from birth to be everything the organization wanted until we were old enough to understand what happened and we bit the hand that fed us. Massive infighting and assassination. I got out of there the moment I heard a civil war was brewing. I don't do killing anymore. Leaves a trail and honestly if I want to take something from somewhere it's easier to do it bloodless. I don't have a name and probably never understand what it feels to have one but if you need to call me something I guess I like the sound of Xin Lan."

You stay quiet as you listen. The sound of silence hangs in the backroom. Finally a voice breaks the silence. "So what do we do now?" Ming asks. You look at her. "You said there's a man chasing you and they're willing to kill to get what they want. We should stop them."

"We?"

"Yes. I want to help." Ming says.

Talking to Ming about fireworks. Writing.

"Why?" You ask. "If He Ling comes after us and finds you. You will die." You say. Xin Lan nods.

"No offense lady, but you don't look much like a fighter to me and I'm all about being unassuming." They say. "This isn't like one of The Five or some kind of story. That thing out there will see you as the weakest one of us and go in for the kill or use it as an opportunity to have us jump in to save you and leave us wide open."

"Well you guys came here and broke in to the store. I think I'm a part of this now." She says. "Do you guys even have a plan?"

You look at Xin Lan. "Well...we were looking for fireworks." You admit.

"Fireworks? Why?"

"He Ling seems to rely on sound." Xin Lan explains. "Our sound bombs didn't seem to do anything so we decided to go for a bigger bang."

"Well how will fireworks help? If you shoot them up into the air, the sound will be dispersed by the time it reaches you." Ming points out.

"We can aim them!" Xin Lan replies.

"And if you miss? You'll light someone's home on fire!" Ming shoots back.

"Well then what would you suggest?" You ask. "You work with mixtures and the like. When I first met you, there was an explosion in this store."

"That was an accident." Ming explains. "But fireworks are dangerous believe it or not. At least the ones I'm guessing you're planning on using. If you want to use them as sound bombs then you can't just use them right out of the gate." She thinks for a bit. "I could probably adjust them. It'll take some time but I could make them so they don't just zip away when you ignite them."

"Or we can just remove the part that makes them fly." Xin Lan points out.

"You can. And then you've got yourself a bomb. Or you mess up the mixtures inside and you have a bomb that launches itself out of your hands as it explodes. Either way it's pretty nasty and you're not likely to get away with just a broken arm." Ming replies. "I can do it." She insists. "I just need some time."

Xin Lan looks at you. "Well? She's your friend."

>What do you tell Ming?

The plan to stall him alone...what if Xi went around setting up dummies all over the place while we did hit and run tactics? Waste his time with fakes and chases. And if he goes for Xi we intercept.
Also ming should brew up something nasty to put in the dummies thatll go off or spread when hit. Like a noxious substance or such.

"How much time do you need?" You ask.

Ming thinks about it. "I'll need about 30 mintues. That should be enough time to crack open fireworks and get the mixtures right. It'll be a really big bang." She says. "So we'll need earwear."

"And how do we plan to stall He Ling?" Xin Lan asks. "You're not just going to face him head on alone aren't you?" You simply look at them. "Oh come on. Even the both of us were getting pushed around. How long do you think you can do it alone?" Xin Lan hops around thinking. "We could go back to basics." They say. "The dummy worked once right? If that guy is hell bent on getting us. We can set up more around the city. Draw his attention all over the place. "You stay in hiding. Trail around. If things start to go sour, you jump in with a surprise attack."

You nod. "We'll need some kind of escape plan. Something to get us out if we're backed up into a corner." You turn to Ming. "Do you have anything we could use? Something strong that can disorient. Maybe even knock him out before we even need to put this plan in action. At the least we can to wear him down."

"I could probably whip something up." Ming says. "Maybe something to make him drowsy but if he's running on adrenaline it won't be as effective. The best bet would be to hit him with that and possibly something strong that will irritate his eyes and nose. But anything you use, you'd be in the area too. So it'd affect you too." Ming thinks for a moment and heads out of the store room. Xin Lan gives you a shrug.

"Well in the mean time. The dummies just need to be your size. I don't know how many times this will work until He Ling catches on. It probably won't be many." They say.

"Then we better make each one count. If we spread them out. Intermix them with me giving chase then you setting one up so he thinks I ran in another direction. It'll help buy us some time." You reply.

"All we need is half an hour? Doesn't sound too hard." They say with mock opitmisim. "At the 25 minute mark. You should run to the fireworks area. We can fire a regular one to draw him there. I'll make my way there. Hopefully, I don't need to risk breaking my other arm."

Ming comes back. "You'll need this." She says holding out her mask. "It's kind of small but it should give you enough protection. So, where are the fireworks you mentioned?" She asks.

"We have two areas we planned on going to." You explain as Ming turns on a small fire place and begins to search through the herbs. She pulls a mortar and pestle to crush them a few seeds she shakes out of them. "The most obvious is the tournament area. With The Five coming here in a few hours, they're bound to have some to celebrate their arrival."

"There is also a store a few blocks away from there in the city with fire works." Xin Lan explains. "Been past there a few times. It's probably where the tournament comissioned their stock. It's probably easier to hit that if we're going to modify the fireworks. Less people guarding it, and no doubt they have raw materials there too."

"But that's stealing." Ming says. "I don't know..."

"It's either we steal or we run the risk of He Ling running amok in the city. Personally I prefer theft and it's not too bad as long as we don't get caught...erm the loud noises will probably scare off any civilians so we'll have time to escape." Xin Lan replies scratching their head.

"Ming, it's also safer for you as well. Xin Lan will accompany you to let you in then we'll work to stall He Ling. If we pick the tournament area, you'll probably be out in the open as well. Inside the store it'll be harder to be found." You explain. "The store will also probably be empty so no one can disturb your work." Ming frowns as she throws a few things into a boiling pot of water.

"Still doesn't feel right." She repeats. "But if we need to do it to save everyone. I guess they'll understand."

"They'll only need to understand if you get caught." Xin Lan says. "But good on you for taking a step into the shadows. It's not so bad." You shoot Xin Lan a look.

"What are you making?" You ask Ming.

"I don't have time to make you a gas bomb." She explains. "So you'll have to make due with a liquid. Unfortunately, it's just as unwieldly. You might get splashed as well but as long as you wear the mask, the fumes won't affect you. Can't say the same for whoever you use this on." She begins to fill several water skins with the bubbling liquid. The containers stretch as they're filled to burst and she sets them on the table. "This normally is meant to be used in small quantities to wake up unconcious people. The smell jolts the body but in this concentration? It's going to give the recipient on hell of a headache. Might have just made a concussion liquid." Ming says with a frown. "I'm not sure how I feel about that."

"You'll get over it." Xin says lightly. "If everyone is ready? I think we have a bat to hunt."

>Where do you go first?
>Go with ming to the store. Maybe you can grab a few fireworks to have even more ways of keeping He Ling's attention and send him off on chases.
>Go to the cemetary. He Ling might have returned back there.
>Head back to the rooftops. It's the easiest place to be found.
>Write in.

Grab some small pouches and fill them with ashes from the fireplace. Hey. If we're too close and he tries for another screech attack, we might as well keep using what's not broken.

>Use your sharp predatory senses to see if you can pick up which direction He Ling is, and go out to stalk him like prey. He expects you to be on the run from him, not hunting him yourself.
