Even after a long training session with Jordan, you still felt as if you needed an edge to overcome Ivan and his mysterious second team. Unfortunately, the quest for power was interrupted when you fell prey to a thieving Misdreavus who kidnapped Armo and fled the scene. Using all of your resources, you managed to track down Armo’s ball to a luxurious hotel which dwarfs nearly every building in the city. With a limited roster and another blackout sweeping over the metropolis, things only become more complicated when you discovered that you aren't the only one with plans to infiltrate the hotel.

Upon seeing Shane crouched behind a car, you inwardly groan at your misfortune. If he’s here then that can only mean that something is afoot. “Why would we be here for the same reason?” You ask as you find cover behind an adjacent car. “I haven’t seen you in days. What are you even doing here?”

“I need to speak with Violet.” Shane answers simply. As you take a closer look at him, you notice that he’s wearing a rather expensive looking suit.

“Of the Elite Four?” You ask in disbelief.

“Yes, something valuable is going to be stolen tomorrow, and she’s the only one who I would trust to intervene. She’s scheduled to meet with Prof. Larch at the Battle Circuit tomorrow and that’s where the thieves will strike.”

“How are you so sure?” You probe, hoping that Shane is only grasping at straws.

“Sheldon and Sean thought it would be wise to infiltrate an Offset base along with another Trainer. I told them to get out of there but they wouldn’t listen. After several hours, they uncovered the plot and told me what they had overheard before going silent again. I don’t know what happened to them, but I know that I’m the only one who can stop this.”

“I thought you were trying to stay out of this mess.” You reply, confused by Shane’s change in priorities.

“I simply do what I can, and this I can definitely do.” Shane states confidently. “Since you’re obviously in the dark about this situation, I must ask. What are you doing here?”

“Armo was kidnapped by a Misdreavus, and I tracked it here.” You say.

“Your Sandshrew?”

“Yes.”

Shane narrows his eyes and sets his gaze on one of the highest floors. He then turns back to you appearing to be deep in thought. “What Pokémon do you have with you now?”

“I had to leave two of my Pokémon behind for this, but I have a Ducklett, a Honedge, and a Budew.” You explain.

Shane glances at the window once more before responding. “I have a proposition.”

“You want me to help you and then you’ll help me?” You ask.

“No,” Shane replies, standing up. ”I’ll go in, speak with Violet, and then I’ll retrieve Armo before anyone notices me. I’m able to blend in and I know my way around. I’ll be in and out.”

Though Shane seems trustworthy enough, you wouldn’t rely on anyone for something as important as this. “Look, I might not know what’s going on here, but my team and I can get this done.”

“You don’t know where you’re going.” Shane counters. “You’ll only get lost, or caught.”

With a sigh, Shane looks at his watch and withdraws a Poké Ball. “Hatenna, lets get to work.”

The tiny Psychic Pokémon emerges from a flash of light and sits down on the trunk of the car as Shane turns to you.

“Thanks to the blackout, we can’t enter the building normally or use the elevators.” Shane says as he approaches the door. “Hatenna is going to get us in and then we’ll go up through the stairwell. Your target comes before mine, so you’re on your own once we get to the 17th floor.”

“How do you know Armo’s on the 17th floor?”

“This isn’t the time for explanations.” Shane replies as Hatenna waddles over to him. “You’re looking for Suite #79. There will be guards patrolling the hallways so stay out of sight.”

“It’s a hallway.” You retort as you join Shane and Hatenna.

“Then get creative.” Shane fires back. “Hatenna, open the doors.”

Upon receiving her orders, Hatenna eyes glow purple, causing the automatic doors to be outlined in purple as well as they slowly open. Shane picks up the hat wearing Pokémon and strides through the doors with you following closely behind. Moving quickly, you follow Shane to the stairs which are blocked off by another door.

“Keycard access?” You exclaim, looking at the lock on the door. “These guys take their security way too seriously.”

Hatenna glows purple once again, causing the lock to fizz rattle violently. Shane then turns the handle and steps inside of the stairwell without a word. The both of you quickly make your way up through several flights with nothing but Hatenna’s light to guide you. Eventually, Shane comes to a halt and points at another locked door. After the Psychic Pokémon repeats her door opening trick, Shane takes a few steps towards the next flight before stopping short.

“Good luck, and don’t get caught.” Shane says before disappearing up the stairs.

>Send Remise to scout ahead

Moving down the stairs to avoid detection, you take out a Poké Ball and send out Remise.

“If we’re going to get Armo back we’ll need to get past the guards.” You explain to the haunted sword. “Take a look around and tell me what you see. Make sure to take a look at Suite #79 as well so we can plan ahead.”

After you finish, Remise cloaks himself in a shadowy aura and floats into the wall, disappearing without a trace. Several minutes go by as you mull over how to best approach the situation. You have a hunch that if the Misdreavus came back here after wandering aimlessly for hours, the Goulds and their entourage must be back in the suite as well. This certainly limits your options and almost guarantees that you’ll run into someone during this daring mission, but you’re confident that the element of surprise will allow you to find Armo before getting into any serious trouble.

Your thoughts are soon interrupted by Remise tapping you on the shoulder with the flat end of his bladed form. Once he feels that he has your attention, he begins scratching some sort of diagram into the walls. Using your Pokédex as a light source, you illuminate the walls and tale a look at what Remise has found out. Though you’ve seen Remise write before, you’re surprised at how much detail the diagram contains. Not only does it contain the location of the suite and the guards, but Remise also included the locations of other stairwells along with the layout of the suite. According to the intel Remise gathered, there are five guards patrolling the hallways, and one guard sitting in the suite’s lounge. For some reason, Remise hasn’t marked the location of either of the Goulds, but you can only assume that Remise doesn’t consider them a threat to you and left them out.

How? We're not telling Roseae to spray his body full of sleep powder just the sash and just enough to make them sleep when they breath, so when he grabs one of the guards he put them to sleep.

She’s spraying a dust cloud at him. Sleep Powder isn’t a precise move and there’s no guarantee that spraying the sash wouldn’t affect Remise anyway.

After thinking it over, you send out both Monsoon and Roseae as well before explaining the situation. Once your relatively simple plan is sorted out, you have Remise and Roseae boost their speed and power to their limits using Autotomize and Growth respectively. Then, as a flashlight sweeps across the door in front of you, you make your move and officially begin the rescue mission.

>Lead with Roseae

With perfect timing, you fling the door open and dash towards your destination with Roseae out in front. It doesn’t take long for one of the guards to take notice of your presence, but as soon as he shines his lights on you, he are bombarded by Roseae’s Sleep Powder and quickly incapacitated. The guard who you originally snuck past is alerted by the commotion and turns around to confront you, only to be met by Monsoon’s Water Pulse attack, which knocks her off balance and sends her several feet from where she was once standing. Rushing past the snoozing guard, you illuminate the doors with the light from your Pokédex as you quickly search for the correct room. As soon as you find the door, the sounds of walkie talkies being used echo throughout the halls.

“There’s no time for a gentle touch.” You say, testing the door’s strength before stepping back. “Remise, use Fury Cutter and tear down the door!”

Remise glows a yellowish green and swings himself at the thick wooden door, creating a deep cut, but not enough so that you can get inside.

“Try again!” You urge, as you see more lights coming from around the corner.

Remise glows once more, and strikes the door again and manages to cut through to the other side. The sturdy door still remains intact however, and is no less of an obstacle than before.

“One more time!” You order as you see another guard sprinting towards you.

Backing away from the door, Remise glows once more and performs a vertical slice on the door, leaving nothing but splinters in his wake.

“Alright, we’re going in! Cover us Roseae!”

As you slip through the makeshift entrance provided by Remsie, Roseae unleashes another wave of Sleep Powder into the hallway before joining you and the others inside. Immediately upon entering, you are confronted by the suite’s residents and while you are unable to see them, you can assume that neither of them are pleased with your sudden and unexpected arrival.

“Are you insane?!” Yells a voice that obviously belongs to Maxwell. “Why would you ever try to break into my suite of all places?! Don’t you know who I am?!”

“Maybe he’s here for an autograph.” Says another voice, sounding oddly amused by the young boy’s reaction.

Maxwell audibly grits his teeth and takes a step closer to you and your team. “Is that all? In that case, I’ll give him an autograph that he won’t soon forget! Wartortle, Corvisquire, send these thieves back to the gutter!”

>Use one of your Pokémon to clear the room and begin searching for Armo’s ball

“Use Water Pulse and blow them away!” You call to Monsoon.

Acting quickly, Monsoon launches a sphere of water that expands as it travels before exploding onto the suite’s residents, pushing them aside with the surprise attack. Without a word, you motion for your team to follow you as you run out of the lounge and into the living room. With nothing but the Pokédex to guide you, you find yourself constantly bumping into walls and stumbling over furniture as you recklessly charge through the suite and its numerous hallways and rooms. Your persistence is soon rewarded however, when you cross paths with the Misdreavus. Even in the darkness, the confusion is evident in the Pokémon’s red, glowing eyes.

“I bet you didn’t think you’d see me again.” You say to the mischievous ghost as your Pokémon arrive on the scene.
“There’s no where to run this time.”

Misdreavus shrinks back from you and attempts to flee the scene, only to be blocked by Remsie in his shadowy from. With few options remaining, Misdreavus flings Armo’s ball into your face and dives into the floor, phasing through the carpet, and down to the next level.

“What a sore loser.” You grumble as you hold your nose in your hand. Before to can reach down to retrieve Armo’s ball, the Pokémon contained within bursts out on his own, briefly bathing the room in a flash of light.

“It’s good to have you back Armo,” You say as you hear the sound of approaching footsteps. “But this isn’t over yet.”

>Escape while you can

“We need to leave, now.” You say
as the footsteps get closer.

As you try to think of an escape plan, the sounds of shredding carpet tells you that Armo has already come up with one. Using his small yet formidable claws, Armo breaks through the floor and into the room below before hopping into the hole and landing on the next floor. Though you don’t like the idea of jumping from one floor to the other like this, you can’t think of any other way.

“I guess it’s better than nothing.” You relent as you quickly recall your other Pokémon and enter the hole.

The ground comes much faster than you expected and though your landing isn’t as clean as Armo’s, you manage to escape the Gould’s suite without any serious problems. Thankfully, no one seems to be staying in this one, giving you a second to plan your next move.

>Leave the suite and go back to the stairwell

With the threat of capture still looming large, you scramble to your feet and pick up Armo, placing him on your back. After a bit of searching, you find the door and exit the suite before locating the nearest stairwell. One broken door later, you find yourself scrambling down several flights of stairs with only a small amount of light to guide you. When you finally reach the 1st floor, you open the previously unlocked door and stealthily make your way back to where you and Shane first entered, avoiding a group of mobilized security guards along the way. With your current roster devoid of any Psychic-type Pokémon, your only option is to allow Armo to cause more property damage in order to escape. After carefully stepping through the hole created by your starter’s forceful exit, you recall your friend and run for a few more blocks before stopping to catch your breath.

“That was a close one.” You remark to nobody in particular once you finish gasping for air. “I wonder if Shane left already.”

Though your red haired ally seemed a bit more on edge than usual tonight, you can somewhat relate to his sense of urgency. Given your run ins with Team Offset and the various odd occurrences that have been taking place recently, there is no doubt in your mind that they’ll have something grand prepared for tomorrow. On the other hand, you’ve played hero enough times to know that you aren’t the best fit for the role.

>Go back to the Gym and get some rest for tomorrow’s battle

Tuesday| 00:40
EL: 30%

By the time you make it back to the Gym, your mind is clouded and most of your energy has been spent. Though you may have been tempted to stay behind, there was no tangible reason for you to do so as Shane seemed confident in his ability to complete his mission. The fact that he has connections with a member of Elite Four as well practically rendered your assistance unnecessary. As far as you’re concerned, the outcome of tomorrow’s battle is far more uncertain.

Once you enter your temporary home, you find Asher waiting patiently at the door. It takes you a bit longer to find Sephira, but you eventually find her lying at the very top of the bleachers with her eyes and small mane aglow. Whether she chose that spot in order to rest or pounce on intruders will remain a mystery.

“Thanks for waiting guys, we got Armo back without any problems.” You announce as you take a seat on the bleachers as well.

After you recall your remaining Pokémon, you place your head on the armrest and stifle a yawn as you take a glance at your watch. The numbers begin to blend together as your eyelids droop and within moments, you fall into a deep slumber.

“Don’t tell me this is your way of backing out.” You hear as you feel a sharp pain in your neck.

“Huh?” You mumble as you force your eyes open. Once your vision begins to focus, you notice Jordan slouching in the seat beside you. “What are you doing here?”

“I thought you’d stay up late to do some more training, so I came over to make sure you didn’t oversleep.”

“My neck is killing me.” You reply as you stretch and rub the sleep from your eyes.

“Falling asleep in a chair will do that.” Jordan remarks as you rise to your feet. “It beats sleeping on the sidewalk though.”

“Trust me, I know.” You say as you take a look around the room. The lights are on once again and surprisingly, there are a few people sitting on the bleachers along with you. As you look at the challenger’s side of the field, you see a male in his late teens giving a pep talk to his Natu. “I guess everyone got tired of waiting for the power to stay on for good.” You muse.

“I think it’s here to stay.” Jordan replies. “There was a big explosion last night somewhere on Route 5 and everything’s been normal ever since.”

“Well that’s convenient. I guess we won’t get to see how the Battle Circuit.......”

“What?” Asks Jordan, somewhat thrown off by your unfinished statement.

“Never mind, the problem is solved right?”

“Yeah, I guess so....Are you ready to go?”

“Alright, I guess I’ll see you later.” Say Jordan, standing up. “Don’t take too long or I might have to teach him a lesson myself.”

As Jordan heads towards the door, you begin collecting your things and making sure that everything is in order. While you’re in the process of leaving, you notice Vernon stepping out of his office and give him a small wave. In response, the infamous Gym Leader gives you a nod of approval as you exit the Gym before shifting his focus back on his latest challenger.

After finishing your meal and paying the bill, you step out onto the streets and make your way towards the Battle Circuit. As you get closer to your destination, your footsteps begin to feel increasingly heavy as millions of thoughts race through your mind. You may be a far better Trainer now than you were two years ago, but Ivan made you look like a joke in your last encounter even though you should’ve had the advantage. Despite your apprehension, you continue to shamble in the direction of the Battle Circuit, hoping that some random disaster interrupts your activities yet again.

“Well well well, if it isn’t my star student! What are you still hanging around here for?” This sudden line of questioning interrupts your thoughts, causing you to actually look where your going. In front of you stands a disheveled looking, yet still upbeat Lyle.

“I have a score to settle.” You reply numbly, maintaining your pace.

“Another big battle huh?” Inquire Lyle as he pivots in order to trail behind you. “I’ve had all the action I can take for this week.”

“Oh really?”

“I’ve seen some things man, really crazy things.”

“I guess you were one of the Trainers who raided that base and caused the explosion?”

“Wow, you really have your ear to the ground don’t you? But yeah, that was me. None of the scientists or investigators could crack the case, but at the end of the day, I got the job done!”

“With some help.” You correct.

“I can’t take all the credit, but the minute I arrived on the scene, those Team Offset goons were Bence’d.”

“What?”

“You know, like they got Bence’d. It’s a play on my nickname.”

“Bence?”

“Yeah. Oh, and I brought back some souvenirs from my adventure.” Pulling ahead of you, Lyle proceeds to walk backwards as he pulls out an unidentifiable object, holding it between his thumb and forefinger. “Check this out!”

“What’s this.” You ask, taking what appears to be a large microchip from his hand.

“I call it the Shift Chip. This one specifically, turns your Pokémon into a half Ghost-type. If your Pokémon already has two typings, it replaces one of them for Ghost.” Lyle explains excitedly. “I swiped it from their lab before everything went up in flames and I’ve got a few extras.”

“Thanks.” You say, pocketing the mysterious microchip.

“Hey, don’t leave me in suspense here. Who are you gonna use it on first?” Lyle insists, eagerly awaiting your next move.

“This isn’t permanent is it?” You question.

Lyle waves his hands in front of him as he continues walking backwards. “Nah, just attach it to the back of a Poké Ball and let it work its magic. Then take it off when you get tired of it.”

After weighing your options, you come to the conclusion that Sephira would be the best choice for this new innovation and attach the chip to her ball.

After your brief encounter with Lyle, you feel as if you actually stand a chance against Ivan’s team. Even if Sephira’s new moveset, and ability aren’t enough to turn the tables, her new typing is sure to throw a wrench in the plans of your arrogant enemy. Now cautiously optimistic, you close in on your destination and find Ivan and his friends waiting outside of the building with grins on their faces.

“It’s a shame your part-time friend couldn’t make it to this bout Walter.” Ivan begins with a smirk. “Then again, I’m surprised you could afford to hire anyone to keep you company in the first place.”

“Funny,” You remark as you reach the trio. “You seem to be missing someone too. Your boyfriends are the only ones who showed up to cheer you on.”

“If you’re smart, you’ll leave me out of this.” Threatens Trevor casually with his hands in his pockets. Your comment would’ve almost certainly garnered a more violent reaction out him a few years ago.

“Let’s not waste any more time, shall we?” Ivan says, brushing off your retort. “I was generous enough to give you a chance to redeem yourself, but I have a schedule to keep. How many Pokémon do you have?”

“Six.” You reply.

“My expectations never seem to be low enough when it comes to you. I think I’ll only need two of my own to deal with you and your poorly trained team.”

“You don’t need two to take on this clown.” Harry cuts in. “He probably hasn’t even evolved any of his Pokémon yet.”

“Consider my second pick as insurance.” Ivan explains. “I wouldn’t put it past him to have turned to that lowlife for help again. There’s no telling what stolen Pokémon Walter has ready for me this time.”

“I’m going to enjoy this.” You says as you walk past the group and into the building.

After a short wait, you find yourself back in the arena facing off against Ivan as dozens of people watch from the stands. You’d be lying if you told yourself that you aren’t still somewhat nervous, but you do your best to suppress every feeling bubbling inside of you, other than the desire to win of course. As you look up at the observation deck above, you spot a several men in suits patrolling the area, paying little attention to the battles down below.

“Are both sides ready to begin?” Inquires the virtual referee being projected on the sidelines.

“When am I not?” Asks Ivan rhetorically.

“I am.” You reply simply.

After taking a second to process your responses, the referee glows bright green and raises both of his arms. “Let the battle begin!”

“Please.” Ivan replies, rolling his eyes. “Pinsir, use Bug Bite.”

Roseae prepares to unleash a cloud of Sleep Powder in the direction of the Stag Beetle Pokémon, but to both her surprise and yours, Pinsir charges across the field and quickly closes in on her. He then lowers his head and sharply closes his glowing pincers onto Roseae before savagely throwing her to your side. Before she even lands, Roseae is rendered unconscious, causing Pinsir to glow bright red as his power slightly increases.

“Did you honestly expect that to work?” Ivan asks as you recall Roseae. “You’ll have to do better than that you want to avoid another humiliating loss.”

Despite Remise’s notable defensive capabilities, you don’t want to act hastily. “Start off with Aerial Ace!”

As soon as the words leave your mouth, Remise appears right beside Pinsir and delivers a swift slash to his side, causing him stagger backwards.

“Use Rock Tomb and bury Honedge.” Ivan commands.

Pinsir stomps on the ground and with a bit of concentration, summons a boulder seemingly from thin air. A silver glow surrounds the boulder as it is tossed at Remsie before exploding in midair, causing multiple stones to rain down on the haunted blade’s sturdy form. Pinsir doesn’t stop there however and repeats this process again, burying Remise under a second layer of stone.

“Don’t let up!” Ivan orders.

“Use Shadow Sneak and get out of there!” You call towards the pile of rubble.

Pinsir procures a third boulder and prepares to launch it at the pile, only for Remise to slip out from under the rocks in his shadow form. Remise then strikes Pinsir once again, forcing him back before he sends the fragmenting rock right on top of Remise.

“Shrug it off and use Aerial Ace again!”

As the stones continue to pelt Remise, the Sword Pokémon suddenly appears behind Pinsir before the remaining chunks hit the ground and stabs the large insect in the back, causing him to hiss in fury.

“Stay calm, and finish him off with Bug Bite.” Ivan says.

Pinsir quickly turns on Remsie and clamps down with his pincers once more, shaking the weathered sword vigorously before tossing him to the ground in disdain.

“I don’t doubt myself often,” Ivan states as Pinsir’s strength increases once more. “But I think I was being too generous when I said that I would need to use two of my Pokémon for this battle.”

“Get used to it,” You reply as you recall Remise to his ball. “This is far from over.”

“Is that a fact?” Taunts Ivan, checking his watch. “With your only saving grace out of commission, there’s nothing you could possibly do to turn things around. This shouldn’t take much longer.”

Rolled: Irrelevant
Result(s): Success

“Use Storm Throw.” Ivan orders, prompting Pinsir to charge forward with his pincers front and center.

Under normal circumstances, you would have had Sephira do something to stop or avoid Pinsir’s attack. Instead, you sit back and watch as the Stag Beetle Pokémon harmlessly passes through the ghostly cub and comes out on the other side.

“W-Wait, what?! That’s impossible!” Ivan exclaims as Pinsir turns around to face Sephira, looking equally as stunned.

“But wait, there’s more.” You announce mockingly. “Sephira, use Spectral Thief!”

With a mischievous grin on her face, Sephira’s form darkens until it resembles that of Remise’s shadow form. The cub then rushes at Pinsir and pounces on his shadow, glowing bright red as she steals his recently accumulated power for herself. She then attacks from within the shadow, swiping at Pinsir with her tiny, pitch black claws. The attack rattles the surprised Bug-type and causes him to shiver in both pain and discomfort as Sephira exits his shadow.

For once, Ivan is completely speechless. You can see him attempting to form words from across the field, but he seems utterly incapable of expressing whatever it is that he’s feeling right now. Seeing him like this gives you an unbelievable amount of satisfaction, and the thought of actually beating him in front of such a sizable crowd only encourages you further. This time, you will walk away the victor.

>Rock Tomb (2x)

Rolled: Irrelevant
Result(s): Success

In spite of his shock, Ivan manages to pull himself together in order to give his next command. “Use Rock Tomb and make sure that she doesn’t make it out!”

Pinsir crafts another boulder and flings it into the air and just as before, the large rock bursts into several pieces as the plummet to the ground.

“Dodge the falling rocks and finish Pinsir off with Spectral Thief!” You counter.

Sephira takes off in Pinsir’s direction, having already decided to move out of the way of the incoming shower of rocks. Thankfully, she follows the rest of your instructions to the letter and converts to her phantom form as she continues to outrun her opponent’s attack. She then proceeds to leap into Pinsir’s shadow once again and delivers another brutal slash to his back, bringing the mighty Pokémon to his knees and ultimately, taking him out of the fight.

“This isn’t going the way you thought it would, is it?” You remark as he recalls the Stag Beetle Pokémon to his ball. “You only have one Pokémon left, but I’m just getting warmed up!”

“Not so fast!” Ivan proclaims sharply. Turning to the artificial referee, Ivan points at Sephira before continuing. “I demand that you check his Litleo! He obviously tampered with her before the match!”

The referee’s color changes to yellow as it gives Sephira a hard and analytical look. After a few seconds, the referee turns green once more and brings up his arms once more. “Proceed.”

“You aren’t getting off the hook that easily.” You taunt as Ivan silently fumes. “If you want to walk away from this with a shred of credibility, you’ll need to win this battle on your own.”

“Don’t lecture me on credibility you snake.” Ivan growls as he makes his next selection. “You never had what it took to make the cut through skill alone and if this unreliable machine won’t do its job, then I’ll be the one to show everyone here just how much of a failure you really are.” Your opponent then sends out his final pick, a fiery Larvesta.

“We’re almost there Sephira! Keep it up!” You say, encouraging the small lioness.

Fully bent on fulfilling his promise, Ivan begins battle defensively. “Dodge and prepare to counter with Flame Charge!”

Despite the large speed discrepancy between Sephira and Larvesta, the Torch Pokémon is unable to avoid the tricky attack, giving Sephira the opportunity to strike a heavy blow against her opponent through her shadow. In return, Larvesta leaps back before surrounding herself in flames and slamming into Sephira, knocking her off balance. As Larvesta hops back and forth, the fiery insect begins to pick up speed, reminding you of yesterday’s battle against Jordan’s Fletchinder and how she attempted to utilize speed in order to overcome both a type and numbers disadvantage. With four healthy Pokémon to deal with, it only makes sense that Ivan would attempt to play the long game as well.

Thinking quickly, you decide that now would be a good time to take away Larvesta’s ability to increase her speed through Flame Charge. “Sephira, slow Larvesta down with Spite!”

“Get out of the way and prepare for take off!” Calls Ivan.

As Larvesta quickly leaps to the side, Sephira’s eyes glow an eerie red color before firing a similarly colored beam where Larvesta once stood. After dodging several beams, the Torch Pokémon begins expelling flames from her red horns as she prepares to ascend, surrounding herself with a ring of smoke.

“Use Spectral Thief before Larvesta can take off!” You order.

Sephira charges at Larvesta and attempts to keep her grounded. Unfortunately, Larvesta manages to take to the skies just as the phantom lioness merges with her shadow and steals the side effect of the previously used Flame Charge for herself. Despite losing her newfound speed, the mobile insect is now well out of Sephira’s range and deftly avoids the cub’s dark claws

Pleased with this recent turn of events, Ivan goes on the offensive once more. “Now that we have the high ground, let’s take something from Litleo! Use Giga Drain!”

As Sephira’s energy is drained from a distance, Larvesta continues to hover through the air without any fear of retaliation from any sort of physical attack. Sephira on the other hand, is now running low and has limited options for inflicting damage despite her increased strength and speed.

Result(s): Success and Failure

“Trap Larvesta with Fire Spin!”

“Use Giga Drain!”

Sephira inhales before launching a spiraling stream of flames at the airborne Larvesta just as the Torch Pokémon saps more of her strength once again. Both attacks meet their mark, and if you weren’t so focused on the outcome of the battle, you may have been able to appreciate the light show. You have more important things to worry about at this time however, with Sephira’s condition being at the top of the list. While she may have put up a good fight, it’s obvious that she is overmatched and won’t be able to overcome her opponents range and mobility.

“We have them now!” Ivan grins triumphantly as Sephira struggles to remain standing. “Finish this with Flame Charge!”

“Use Spectral Thief one more time!” You urge,

The two blazing Pokémon charge headfirst at each other, with Sephira sporting her ghostly for and Larvesta cloaking herself in a shell of fire. The subsequent collision is brutal, but Sephira takes the brunt of the damage and collapses as Larvesta blows right past her and continues to zip around the field. The insect’s celebration is soon cut short however as she is surrounded by both a dark aura and spiraling flames which inflict a considerable amount of damage and force her to land out of necessity.

As Ivan seethes over Sephira’s catastrophic parting gifts, you recall the cub to her ball and place it back onto your belt. “Thanks Sephira, I couldn’t have gotten this far without you. I won’t let your hard work go to waste.”

“Start off with Defog and follow up with Aerial Ace!”

Monsoon takes to the skies and creates a small windstorm pushing Larvesta back slightly and causing Ivan’s jacket to flow behind him like a cape.

“Even with a type advantage, you still somehow manage to throw it all away!” Ivan calls over the wind. “Larvesta, use Giga Drain, twice.”

Ignoring the harmless wind blowing in her direction, Larvesta siphons a multitude of green orbs from within Monsoon and proceeds to do so again, relieving Monsoon of most of his energy. As Monsoon struggles to remain in the air, Larvesta begins to look far better than she had moments before.

Though the situation looks dire, you refuse to give up on your Pokémon. “Don’t give up Monsoon! Show them what a master of the skies can really do!”

Refusing to fall, Monsoon quickly disappears before reappearing in front of Larvesta and striking her with a slice from his wing. As he finishes his attack and takes off, a small flame appears on the duckling’s chest, burning him and throwing off his flight pattern once again. While he manages to make it back to his original position in the sky, Monsoon is beginning to look as hurt as Sephira was before her final clash with Larvesta. On the other side of the field, the burning Bug-type is still afflicted by the cub’s Fire Spin attack, which eats away at some of her ill gotten health.

’Come on, think!’ You exclaim internally as you analyze the situation. ‘If Monsoon can’t deal with Larvesta, the others won’t stand a chance! There has to be something we can do!’

I don’t think just one of those will work. We should try for two or maybe even try using that Alt Tech. The first time we tried using one the QM let us do it even though it wasn’t listed.
>>
>>4395363
Alt Techs have a limit, they can't pass 100 damage, AA+WP would pass through the limit. What we can pull is something like keep spamming Water Pulse until one of them falls.
>>
>>4395372
Two moves with an average power exceeding 100 like Hyper Beam and Fire Blast cannot be combined. Water Pulse and Aerial Ace can be used but since this specific Alt Tech hasn't been unlocked, a DC would need to be passed in order to use it.
>>
>>4395404
Did you change the rules? Because on the bin it's written:
> If two moves were to have an average power of 100 or more, they cannot be combined
The way it's written implies if both moves combined exceed 100 they can't be combined.
Anyway I rather not risk it another roll, I rather spam Water Pulses than risk the move backfiring horrible.
>>
>>4395410
If you were to combine the power of Water Pulse and Aerial Ace, you would get 120. When you divide that by two to get the average, the result would be 60. That isn't to say that this particular Alt Tech would be limited to a power of 60, but you are correct in saying that the finished product is limited to a power of 100 (this can change as an Alt Tech is given a 75% power boost at Lv. 4).

Rolled: N/A
Results: Success

“Alright, it’s time to get serious! Use Water Pulse!” You order, hoping to score a meaningful hit.

Once again, Ivan switches strategies and attempts to battle defensively. “Take off and avoid Ducklett’s attack!”

Despite being in critical condition, Monsoon manages to charge a large, swirling sphere of water at the fleeing Larvesta. The Torch Pokémon is able to ascends to the skies once more, but Monsoon follows her movements perfectly.

“Now use Sunny Day!” Ivan orders.

“Launch it now!” You call to Monsoon.

Just as Monsoon fires the powerful projectile, Larvesta expels a golden light from her horns. Seconds later, the sun begins to shine brightly through the skylight, turning much of Monsoon’s attack to vapor. Despite this, Water Pulse connects and engulfs Larvesta before exploding, sending the fiery bug reeling from the force of the attack. Upon seeing his efforts pay off, Monsoon succumbs to his burn and falls to the ground as Larvesta is damaged by the lingering effects of Fire Spin once more.

As Larvesta erratically floats in the air it becomes clear that she is both worn down and in a state of confusion. While this situation might seem favorable for you on paper, Larvesta’s access to Giga Drain and Ivan’s plans for her bolstered Fire-type attacks may prove to be the final nail in the coffin for you and your two remaining Pokémon.

>Send out Asher

As this close battle draws to a close, you realize that in order to win, you must stall for time and hope for the best. Thinking it over, you decide that Asher is the best candidate for the job and send the inexperienced Pokémon into battle. Asher immediately detects your strong urge to win and bravely faces his opponent.

“Feeling nervous?” Ivan remarks from across the field. “I can tell from the look on your face that you’re getting desperate without any tricks and type advantages to fall back on. Don’t worry, I’ll end this battle in the next two moves.”

Okay I know than spam Double Team and try to fish for hax and misses sounds tempting but I don't think it's a good idea, playing passive till now got us fucked and I rather not risk another Double Succ, I have another proposition, how about we take a hint from our battle against Vernon? Remember how he smacked Monsoon right into the Toxic Spikes to get him poisoned, well how about we do the same thing here for a pseudo Stealth Rock damage, basically we use confusion and send the damn bug right into the rock pile the pinsir made when he battled Remise, if we can pull it off we might end up wiping the smirk outta this jerk for good.

>>
>>4397289
It varies a lot but the move seems to be able to use in two ways you either control the opponent with its mind, or releases blue waves of energy at the opponent. I think both work since the main damage will come from crashing on the rocks for that sweet 4x Damage

Rolled: 36
Results: Failure

“Use Flame Charge once more. Then we can move on to the next on.” Ivan says with a bored tone.

Larvesta propels herself forward, bursting into flames as she zeroes in on Asher’s position. As the sun beams down on the speeding Bug-type, the flames surrounding her grow brighter and more chaotic.

“Use Confusion and send Larvesta into that rock pile!” You order frantically.

Asher holds his small arms in front of him and within seconds, both they and Larvesta are surrounded with a purple outline. Though Larvesta flinches slightly under the effects of Asher’s mental prowess, her path remains unaltered and she slams into Asher, pushing him down into the dirt with the force of her attack. She then propels herself upwards, hovering over your singed and exhausted Pokémon as he drops to one knee.

The field goes silent as Larvesta gives Asher an impatient glare. By all accounts, the frail psychic shouldn’t be able to stand after being struck by Flame Charge, much less it’s powered up version. The only reasonable conclusion is that Asher’s attempts to redirect Larvesta must have created some sort of buffer against the oncoming attack. Whatever the case may be, Asher doesn’t go down and slowly rises to his feet once more, breathing heavily. Conversely, Larvesta is engulfed in Sephira’s hostile flames for the final time and comes crashing to the ground, unable to continue after dealing with all manner of damage and exhaustion.

The referee’s holographic body flashes red and you watch as the second Poké Ball on Ivan’s side of the scoreboard goes dark. To describe what you’re feeling now as elation would be an understatement, you’re practically paralyzed with both disbelief and a sense of accomplishment that no other victory could ever incite. Your side of the display is then illuminated in bright lights as confetti rains down on your picture. As the referee declares you the winner, you can feel warmth exuding from Asher as he joins you to share in your sense of accomplishment. Though you aren’t paying your opponent any attention, you already know that Ivan will soon approach you as well. You have a good idea of all the things he would like to say to you, and while you would enjoy rubbing your victory in his face and giving him a piece of your mind as well, you don’t want him ruining the moment.

You decide to ignore Ivan and instead turn your attention to Asher, scooping him up in a hug.

“Thanks for hanging in there.” You say, petting the exhausted Pokémon.

With Asher in tow, you leave the field without giving your opponent a second look and scan the stands for anyone you might recognize. After a bit of searching, you find Jordan sitting near the front, waving at you. You distinctly remember her saying that she wanted to see you after the battle, and while she seems proud of you, you get the feeling that the outcome of the battle isn’t the only thing on her mind. Directly above her, Gabe is speaking with one of the men in suits on the observation deck. For some reason, he seems to be directing the man to the other side of the field while leaning on the glass. Finally, you spot Shane, sitting high up on the stands and away from everyone else. You can only assume that Lyle was going back home when you crossed paths this morning and is probably asleep at the moment. Given his recently formed friendships with both Sean and Sheldon, you imagine that Shane could get you into contact with him to discuss the battle and more importantly, these mysterious chips.

“Not bad,” Jordan says as you walk over to her. “A little close, but not bad at all.”

“I’ll take it.” You reply as you take a seat next to her. “At this point, I expect every battle I have to be a close one.”

“Your friend down there might be full of himsef, but he really knew what he was doing. I don’t think you’ll have to battle that hard until you take on the next Gym.”

“Maybe, but I’m only going to get better from here. I’m sure I’ll be ready when the time comes.”

“Yeah.” Jordan replies. “I think you might have what it takes, especially with that new Pokémon you caught.”

“That was Sephira.” You correct.

“She might look like her, but I’ve never seen a Litleo with moves like that.” Jordan states. “What did you stumble on this time?”

“It’s complicated. I’m actually going to meet with someone who knows something about this. I think you might want to listen in.”

“Well there’s no way I was gonna get left in the dark anyway.” Jordan replies. “Let’s go!”

“Follow me.” You say, picking up Asher once more and letting him ride along in your bag.

The three of you walk up to the top of the stands where Shane is sitting, watching you and your companions as you ascend the stairs. Though you wouldn’t label him as a people person, he seems to be deliberately avoiding as many people as he can.

>Greet Shane and ask him about the events of last night and the mysterious chips

“Good to see you again Shane.” You say as you reach the top.

“That’s easy for you to say.”

“Did something happen last night?” You say, already knowing the answer.

“Apparently, you got into a battle and caused some damage.” Shane states, somewhat annoyed. “I had to abort the mission and leave before I was cornered.”

“Don’t tell me you broke into another secret complex” Jordan interrupts, turning to you.

“Another?” Shane inquires with a raised eyebrow.

“I may have forgotten to mention that.” You admit, remembering the lie you had fed Shane last week.

To your surprise, Shane drops the subject and shifts down a few seats while keeping an eye on the observation deck. “In any case, I came here to make sure that nothing happened. I never got the chance to warn Violet about the heist.”

“Violet? What does she have to do with this?” Jordan asks.

“I could ask you the same thing.” Shane replies rudely.

“What was that?” Jordan demands.

“She knows a bit more about this than you think, and she knows someone who can help us out.” You say, stepping in before things become hostile.

“Us? We’re not a team.”

“Look, I’m sorry I got in your way last night but something’s come up, something big. Did you watch my battle?”

“Yes, I did. You were incredibly lucky.”

Brushing off Shane’s comment, you continue you line of questioning. “So you saw what happened between Pinsir and my Litleo?”

“If I weren’t so busy I would’ve asked you about that myself. How did you change your Pokémon like that?”

“With this.” You answer, pulling the chip off of Sephira’s ball. “Do you know anything about it?”

“I’ve never seen anything like it.” Shane admits, taking the device and looking it over. “Where did you get this?”

“I got it from Lyle, the Trainer that helped your friends shut down Team Offset’s base.”

“I should’ve known that was him.” Jordan sighs. “What made him take this thing anyway? It just looks like a regular microchip to me.”

“He didn’t go into detail, but I think we might need to find him as well as Sean and Sheldon and get some answers.” You say.

“We can do that at any time.” Shane reminds you. “This is more important.”

“It doesn’t look like anything’s going on to me.” You comment. “Besides, with Violet and those security guards walking around, I don’t think anyone would be dumb enough to steal something from Prof. Larch of all people.”

“Either that or it’s already happened.” Jordan says as she takes a look around the enormous room.

“What’s the worst that can happen?” You reply as you make your way down the stairs. “I’ll meet up with you back here if something goes wrong.”

You exit the arena and the locate the stairway which leads to the observation deck. Once you get to the top of the stairs, you are stopped by a female security guard wearing dark shades.

“Do you have a pass?” The guard asks in a bored tone.

“I left it with a friend.”

“I’ll give him the message.” The guard replies.

‘Where have I heard that one before?’ You think sarcastically. “Thanks.” You verbalize, turning back towards the stairs

As you begin your descent, you feel a slight chill coming from within your backpack. Asher hasn’t moved much since you left Jordan and Shane, but his general mood seems to have dropped considerably. You aren’t sure whether this is due to fatigue finally catching up with him or his reactions to being in such a crowded place, but once you finally locate the building’s in-house Pokémon Center, it feels as if you’re carrying a small block of ice around in your bag.

As you expected, there are several Trainers waiting in the large room. Some are standing in line to either turn in or collect their Pokémon, and others are simply buying revives and potions of varying quality on the opposite side of the room. Checking your card, you notice that 3,000 P has been transferred to your account by the Battle Circuit. Of course, both you and Ivan had to pay a fee in order to have one of the battlefields set aside for your bout, but you also received a cut from the ticket sales. You currently have 5,096 P available and you’re tempted to do some spending given the length of the first line. You imagine that you’ll have to pay through the nose either way however.

>Wait in the longer line and pay a small fee

Wednesday| 13:42
EL: 80%

Understanding both the urgency of the situation and the limitations of your wallet, you decide to wait in the first line in order to properly heal your entire team. As you stand in line, Asher’s temperature remains icy but does not drop any lower than before. With nothing better to do, you attempt to figure out what exactly is going on here. You first try to approach things from a goal oriented standpoint, but from what you know, Team Offset is nothing more than a disruptive organization who only seems to be interested in taking down Isoin’s official Pokémon League and spreading chaos. Even when viewing this operation as a connected series of events, you can’t understand how the museum thefts and city wide power outages play a role in this, or why they would choose to strike here and now.

When you finally snap out of your trance, you notice another security guard standing just outside the doorway. From what you can tell, he seems to be keeping count of the number of people who are currently in the room but you occasionally notice him staring at you in particular. Before you choose to do anything about your suspicions, the guard walks away and all of the exits are closed simultaneously as thick steel barriers slam shut over the doorways.

“Oh come on! Another one?!” Exclaims a voice.

“It can’t be, the lights are still working.” Says another.

“Shouldn’t there be some sort of alarm or announcement when a building goes into lockdown?” Yet another voice questions.

As the large group of Trainers debate and argue amongst themselves, one individual sends out a Conkeldurr, garnering the attention of the crowd.

“Conkeldurr, get me out of here! I’m freaking out man!” The panicked Trainer blubbers.

“What are doing you idiot!” Shouts an unseen voice. “We don’t even know what’s out there! Call back you Pokémon and calm down!”

Following his Trianers orders, Conkeldurr approaches the door, prompting everyone to quickly scramble out of the way as the bulky Pokémon lifts a thick pair of concrete pillars.

“Use Close Combat! Hurry!” Conkeldurr’s Trainer blurts out.

Within seconds, the sound of the pillars slamming against the barrier reverberates throughout the room, causing some to cover their ears as the Muscular Pokémon unleashes a barrage of heavy blows against it. Once the pounding concludes, the barrier still remains standing with only a few dents decorating its surface.

As Conkeldurr’s Trainer begins to hyperventilate in a corner, you ponder the idea of attempting to leave as well. Even with the bit of knowledge you have regarding the true nature of this situation, going out now may not be the best idea at this moment.

With your mind made up, you approach the barrier and place your backpack down before fishing out Asher.

“You and I both know that something bad is about to happen.” You say to Asher as the small psychic Pokémon shivers. “If we can get these doors open, we should be able to regroup with the others and maybe even put a stop to this. Can you try messing with the locks and getting us out of here?”

With a small nod, Asher faces the door with his arms outstretched as a purple outline appears around the doorway. After several minutes, you hear a small click and the sound of something rattle from behind the barrier. The actual barrier remains in place however, and the locks refuse to release their hold. It appears the if performing such a complex task requires some practice beforehand.

“Nice try Asher, but I think we might need some help with this.” You say recalling the exhausted Pokémon back to his ball.

Taking a look at the room’s numerous occupants, you realize that most of them are completely oblivious to what’s going on and do not suspect anything. Aside from the Trainer struggling with cleithrophobia, no one seems to be in a rush to leave and pass the time by making idle conversation.

“There has to be else someone here who wants to get out.” You say, thinking out loud.

“Are you ok?” Asks a female Trainer standing near the exit. Given her sleek, luxuriant hair and her shapely figure, you would expect to see her on a runway or at the very least a Contest Hall.

“I was just looking for a way out.” You reply.

“You aren’t about to freak out like that other guy are you?”

“No, I’m alright. I need to find my....” You trail off.

“Your friends?”

“I guess I could call one of them my friends. We were on the lookout for any sign of Team Offset before we were separated.”

“What would they be doing here?” The Trainer asks skeptically.

“That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”

Before you can continue, you are joined by another Trainer dressed in a white tank top and track pants. “Did you say you wanted to bust out of here?” He asks, nearly blocking your view of the other Trainer. “I want a piece of that action!”

“Are you going trying to stop Team Offset too?” Asks the captivating Trainer.

“I was actually going to hit the weights back home.” The large Trainer replies, turning to her and pretending to curl a dumbbell “The name’s Brett by the way.”

“I’m Nicole.”

“Do you have a way to deal with this?” You interrupt, tapping the barrier.

“I can try.” Brett offers, sizing up the large slab of metal.

“Let me rephrase that.” You say, already regretting your decision. “Do you have any Pokémon who can get us out without making too much noise.”

“I’ve got nothing.” Brett replies.

As soon as the muscle bound Trainer says this, the barrier is suddenly retracted back into the ceiling, drawing the attention of everyone in the room.

“Wow! It must be our lucky day!” Brett states as he carelessly walks through the doorway. He then turns and faces you again. “What was that you were saying about Team Offset?”

Accompanied by your new companions, you walk through the deserted halls of the Battle Circuit taking great care to be as silent as possible.

“Do we have a plan here?” Nicole asks, you as Brett searches around yet another corner.

“At first I thought about getting some more help, but it might be better if the group stays as small as possible.”

“You sound like you’ve done this before.” Nicole comments.

“I just like to think things through.” You reply. “This is a big place and we still don’t know exactly what’s going on.”

Nodding, Nicole takes a Poké Ball out of her bag as Brett returns. “So what are we doing then?”

“We’re going back for the others. It might be a gamble to have all of us working together, but as long as we keep a low profile, we shouldn’t run into any trouble until we actually start looking for it.”

“You already found it.” Says a voice from behind you.

Upon turning around, you are greeted by an unpleasant surprise. Standing in the hallway are Dave and Thomas wearing black jumpsuits with sky blue highlights that leads you to believe that some sort of circuitry has been built into the clothing. Along with their high tech suits and watches, the pair also sport Pokéball holsters with each one having three balls apiece.

“I don’t have time for this.” You groan as the two grunts send out their most trusted Pokémon.

“I eat pussies like these for breakfast.” Brett proclaims, stepping in front of you. “This won’t take long.” The bullheaded Trainer cracks his knuckles and withdraws a Great Ball from his pocket.

“Go get your friends.” Nicole urges as she brandishes her own Great Ball. “I’ll make sure that he doesn’t ganged up on.”

“Alright, we’ll meet at the stairs to the observation deck.” You relent, stepping back as your temporary allies take the lead. “Good luck.”

As soon as you turn your back on the standoff, the sounds of battle ring through the air. Sprinting down the empty hallways, you make a sharp turn around another corner and find yourself in the foyer once more. You quickly turn the corner in order to locate the Competitive Arena, only to trip and fall as you stumble across an outstretched leg.

“What did I tell you Harry, I knew he’d make a run for it.” Trent brags as he hauls you to your feet and roughly pins you against the wall. “How’s it going Ace Trainer?” He chuckles as your legs dangle below you.

Cursing your impossibly bad luck, you try to put on a brave face. “We don’t have time for this Trent. In case you haven’t noticed, Team Offset is in the middle of taking over the building.”

“So you’re a thief, a cheater, and a coward? Now I get why this is always so fun!” Trent replies mockingly. “Do you ever stop running?”

“I’m not running, I’m trying to stop them.” You protest as you struggle to free yourself from his grip.

“Don’t worry about that, Ivan’s already on it.” Harry says, looking out for any more people. “Before he went to fight them, he told us that he wanted to make sure you didn’t think this was over.”

“So what, while he’s pretending to be a hero he sent you guys to get back at me for winning?”

“He’s been bitching about it sure, but I don’t give a shit about what you did. I just wanna know how you did it.” Trent explains. “I’ll go undefeated after you tell me your little secret.”

“Let go of me!” You demand.

“I’m giving you a chance to talk while you still have some teeth, so start talking before I fucking lose it.” Trent snarls, pulling you off the wall before shoving you into it.

“You’re only making this worse.” Harry informs you as he stands alongside the brute.

>Go for a cheap shot and send out Armo

Rolled: 39 and 97
Result(s): Failure and Success

“So, how are we gonna do this?”

You slowly rise to your feet in order to appear as compliant as possible. Once you see Trent relax a bit, you attempt to throw a punch at his groin, only for you to overshoot and land a body shot instead. The blow has seemingly no effect on the bully but the smile on his face tells you that you’ve set him off.

“I was hoping you’d do that.” Trent grins as he hits you in the face with a punch of his own, sending you back to the ground. “Get him up!” Trent orders.

Harry scrambles to secure your arms and drags you back to your feet. Before you can even process what’s going on, Trent hits you with two quick shots to the body, knocking the wind out of you in the process. “This is gonna be real fun.”

The next punch sends you reeling but the ones that come after hardly register as Harry struggles to keep you on your feet under the force of the Trent’s punches. After awhile, all of the pain simply blends together. “You wanna talk now?” Trent barks at you. “Or do you wanna go another round?”

“Dude, keep it down,” Harry pleads. “What if one of them hears us?”

“I’m not stopping until I get what I came for! Just shut the fuck up and hold him!” Turning his attention back to you, Trent rolls his shoulder before speaking. again. “You ready to talk now?”

“Fuck....you.”

“Wrong answer” Trent replies, taking a step back.

Just when it looks as if you’re going to take another vicious shot, Armo’s ball opens in a flash of light and a golden blur emerges, striking your violent interrogator in the head and sending him crashing into the wall.

Upon seeing his partner in crime fall to the ground, Harry practically jumps out of his skin and pushes you on top of Armo before taking off in the direction that you originally came from.

“Get back here, fatass!” Trent calls, holding onto his head as he attempts to stand.

“What’s goin’ on ‘ere, then?” Questions Gabe as he suddenly steps into your field of vision.

“Mind your bus.....” Trent manages to say before slumping to the ground unconscious. A long silence passes before another word is spoken.

“Where did you come from.” You ask groggily.

“I was just over there takin’ a piss.” Gabe states, pointing at the public bathrooms on the other side of the room. “Apparently, the loo is the only bloody place they don’t lock up around ‘ere.” Gave offers you a hand and helps you stand to your feet, freeing Armo in the process.

“Thanks.” You say, leaning against the wall for support.

“Those cunts really gave you a proper beatin’ mate.”

“I noticed.” You retort as you hold onto your head with one hand. “Thanks for your help Armo.”

“So you’ll get pissy with me but not him? It looks to me like he waited for those wankers to beat you half to death before getting off his ass’.”

“Look, this isn’t a good time. I have to get going.”

“Well that’s why we met here innit? Now we can bugger off and get this show on the road.”

“Not yet, I’ve got work to do.” You reply as you slowly walk towards the Competitive Arena’s entrance.

“Are you daft? You’re stumblin’ around like you’re sloshed right about now. What could you possibly plan on doin’?”

“I’m fine.” You insist as Armo gives you a look of concern.

“Well if you need me, I’ll be back in the WC and stayin’ away from those goons in the jumpsuits. There’s plenty of space if you decide to smarten up.” With that, Gabe turns around and heads back to the bathroom.

>Find Jordan and Shane

After taking a moment to recover, you move away from the wall and take a deep breath as Armo patiently waits for you. Before leaving, you give the unconscious Trent a swift kick to the ribs and begin to move towards the Competitive Arena as you wipe away the blood from your nose. It isn’t long before you hear the sounds of another battle raging on and you arrive just in time to watch as Jordan and Shane deal with a pair of Offset grunts. The henchmen are no match for your allies and quickly surrender once their Pokémon are taken care of with ease.

“Secure them.” Shane orders his Sewaddle.

“I see you have things taken care of here.” You comment as you approach the group. “How did you manage to get past the barriers?”

“Her Buneary dug us out.” Shane explains simply, watching as Sewaddle covers the grunts in several layers of webs. “I didn’t want anyone to witness our escape.”

“I guess you got out the same way, right?” Jordan asks as she looks behind her. “Don’t tell me you tried ramming it with your face before you thought of tunneling out.” She says lightheartedly upon getting a good look at you.

“I wish that were the case. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine.”

“Wait, what happened?” Jordan asks, her smile quickly fading.

“I recruited some people to help us with shutting this heist down.” You continue, dodging the question. “We split up after running into some grunts, but I told them to meet us at the stairway to the observation deck. If they don’t show up in five minutes, we’re going in without them.”

“It’s going to take less than that for the thieves to get what they came here for.” Shane states as he returns Sewaddle to her ball.

“And it’s going to take more than just us to stop them.” You argue. “I went up there before this all started, and there were at least a dozen of them up there assuming they’ve replaced every security guard in the building.”

“That would explain why there aren’t too many of them down here.” Jordan says. “Still, Shane’s right, they could be making their escape while we’re standing here arguing.”

“And if they’re not?” You question.

“Then we should go find your backup and help them deal with the grunts that you left behind.” Shane counters. “Either way, we can’t afford to waste anymore time.”

“Is he always like this?” Jordan asks you.

“I’ll relax when this is over.” Shane answers. “At the very least the three of us need to stick together. Let’s make a decision now and be done with it. You already know where I stand.”

“Weren’t you the one who said you wanted to avoid being outnumbered the first time we worked together?” You point out.

“That was different.” Shane retorts. “We know exactly what we’re dealing with now.”

“Well I vote we get as much help as possible.” Jordan cuts in.

Shane audibly makes his displeasure known before turning to you. “And you’re siding with her?”

>”Rushing into things is how we lost the last time Shane. Let’s make sure we don’t make that mistake again.”

“Have it your way.” Shane replies with his arms crossed. “You’d better hope that these guys can pull their weight.”

“Let’s move.” You say, turning back the way you came.

It doesn’t take long for you to come across Trent’s unconscious form again, but you don’t even acknowledge him as you pass by with Shane and Jordan only giving him a curious stare as they follow you.

“I guess he got caught trying to escape.” Jordan muses.

“I don’t see anyone else around,” Shane replies as the three of you enter the foyer. “I doubt they would just leave someone out in the open if they’re trying to make this whole thing look as innocent as possible.”

Before your group makes it halfway across the foyer, Dave and Thomas slowly shuffle into the room, dragging an unconscious Brett across the floor by his legs.

“Fuck it, that’s good enough.” Thomas says, dropping a leg. “The cops can drag him outta here themselves.”

“Finally,” Dave pants, dropping his leg as well. “There was no way we were getting him up the stairs anyway.”

“Why did you stop dragging him?” Questions a familiar voice from around the corner. Bringing up the rear is Nicole, now dressed in a similar outfit to the other grunts. This development makes you uneasy for numerous reasons.

“That guy weighs a ton and you didn’t even lift a finger!” Dave complains. “There’s no point in taking a hostage if you can’t even get them to the action.”

“Maybe you should take some cues from this gym rat then.” Thomas says, checking his watch. “Yo Daphne, when were we supposed to jump those losers? I’ve been waiting to give that little shit a beatdown for last time.”

“Have you tried looking up?” Daphne replies with annoyance, pointing at your group.

“There goes our ambush.” Dave laments upon spotting you. “We’re so screwed when the admins find out we ditched our posts.”

“Chill, we got this place on lockdown. We don’t need to worry about anyone getting in our way.” Thomas grins as he takes out a Poké Ball. “We’ll take ‘em all out a sneak back like nothing ever happened.”

“So much for backup.” Shane comments, taking out a Poké Ball of his own. “Let’s make this quick.”

I have a plan but it requires a revive. We revive Remise make him use automotize till he max speed then make the sewaddle let out as much silk/web as possible then make Remise now extremely fast tie them up before they can do anything. Second plan is have Arno dig a hole under them then make them fall while having the sewaddle secure them up.

That sounds like it would take too long.

We don't have much choice, we can't exactly do a 3x3 since we only have Arno and a weakened Asher we're on a big disadvantage they also have that hostage with them, the hole plan in my opinion is faster but if anyone else got another plan I am all ears.

“Alright Armo, you’re up.”

Armo, who had previously been paying little attention to the trio of grunts, steps in front of you and slashes at the air in order to loosen up.

“Let’s do this Desmond.” You say, turning your attention to the grunt you’re most familiar with.

“This won’t be like last time!” Dave declares as he sends Dunsparce into battle. “You’re going to regret crossing Team Dave!”

“I was grouped with you guys to keep you from messing this up,” Daphne asserts, sending out a Snubbull. “If we’re a team, then I’m getting naming rights.”

“Yeah, well I was put in charge of him first. How about this, whoever takes out the most Pokémon get’s to pick the name.” Thomas says before bringing out Pignite.

“Will the three of you shut up and battle?” Shane insists, leading with Rhyhorn.

“Thank you.” Jordan sighs as she sends out Buneary.

As the chaotic free for all begins in the foyer, you and Dave face off once again, with neither side making a move. The golden Pokémon in front of you lock eyes and prepare themselves for battle.

“Use Poison Jab!” You order, starting things off.

Though slow on the draw, Dave is quick to react to your game plan.“Stop him with Zen Headbutt!”

Armo charges as Dunsparce with his entire fist covered in a light purple aura as Dunsparce uses his tiny wings to propel himself headfirst towards the armored rodent with a blue cone of energy spiraling around him. The Land Snake Pokémon manages to strike first and buries his head into Armo’s stomach, stunning him and sending him back several feet before he can land his own attack.

“Score one for the underdogs!” Dave cheers as Armo steps forward once more. “I bet you weren’t expecting us to get better, were you? Now it’s our turn to be on top!”

Dunsparce hurls himself at Armo again, ready to slam into his foe with all the power that he can muster.

“Dodge it!” You call, prompting Armo to sidestep the attack.

“Uh oh.” Dave exclaims nervously as Dunsparce sails past his target.

“Don’t let up, try using Poison Jab again!” You say.

Armo’s fist glows purple once again before he turns and unleashes an overhead punch into the flying snake’s back, stopping his momentum and slamming him into the ground with a considerable amount of force. As Dunsparce collects himself, he begins to shiver, feeling the oncoming effects of Armo’s venomous strike.

“This is what happens when you celebrate too soon.” You explain as Dave scrambles to come up with a plan.

“Use Bite and follow add a Zen Headbutt to go with it!”

Picking himself up, Dunsparce flaps his wings and lunges at Armo with his jaws primed and ready to snap.

“Use Dig and stall him out!” You order.

Unfortunately, Armo is unable to retreat into the ground quickly enough and finds his arm trapped by Dunsparce’s attack. The bite causes Armo to flinch in surprise, and he stops digging in order to shake the golden snake off of him. Releasing his hold, Dunsparce drops to the floor and bashes Armo in the knee with his head covered in psychic energy. The combination of both Bite and Zen Headbutt leaves a serious impact on Armo, and swings the fight into Dave’s favor once again. Though the poison continues to take its toll, Armo is isn’t likely to be able to withstand another series of attacks.

’This is not my day.’ You think to yourself as Armo struggles to hold on. Though you hate to admit it, Dave has undoubtedly improved since your last encounter and he’s giving you a serious challenge with his new tactics.

After rummaging through the duffle bag laying beside him, Dave pulls out a small bottle and sprays Dunsparce with its contents. Seconds later, the winged snake’s skin takes on a more healthier tone. “That takes care of that, now use Drill Run!” Dave orders, carelessly tossing the bottle behind him.

With his illness cured, Dunsparce sticks out his tail and begins rapidly, resembling a drill as he spirals through the air towards Armo.

“Dodge and counter with Poison Jab again!”

Thanks to your good timing, Dunsparce harmlessly flies past his foe as he executes a perfect dodge. Before Dunsparce can change his trajectory, Armo hits him in the back, sending him to the floor once more. Despite this, Dunsparce doesn’t seem to be ready to give in and coils up in a defensive posture.

Rolled: 65
Result(s): Success

“Don’t worry Dunsparce, we’ve got them on the ropes! Don’t give up until it’s over!” Dave says, rallying his Pokémon.

“Keep doing what you’re doing Armo!” You order. “Just let him come to you and hit him when you see an opening.”

In a sudden burst of energy, Dunsparce lunges at Armo again and again as the swift moving shrew dodges each each attack. When the moment arrises, Armo pulls back with his glowing fist and nails Dunsparce with another hard counterpunch. Just when you think that Armo has slowly worn Dunsparce down, the overzealous serpent delivers another powerful Zen Headbutt, catching him off guard and sending him flying towards you where he immediately collapses upon hitting the floor.

“Team Dave is on the board!” The excited grunt brags to his colleagues. “How do you like that?”

“Whatever,” Thomas calls from across the room as Pignite and Rhyhorn continue their rematch. “I’ve got this clown right where I want him, you ain’t naming this crew anytime soon. By the way, if you don’t somehow fuck this up, just keep him here so I can deal with him later.”

With Armo out of the picture and Asher close to fainting as well, your options appear to be limited. The fact that Dave still has two other Pokémon in reserve also complicates matters.

“It’s all up to you now Asher.” You say, selecting his Poké Ball and sending him out.

“It looks like I’ll have two points in a minute.” Dave boasts upon seeing the exhausted Ralts enter in a flash of light.

“Getting the easy job isn’t something to brag about.” Daphne comments as her battle with Jordan rages on.

“Don’t count us out yet.” You reply, hoping that faking confidence might empower Asher in some way.

>Use a Potion and Use Hypnosis
VS.
>Drill Run

Rolled: 67
Result(s): Success

After doing a quick search through your bag you manage a grab one of your potions and proceed to empty out the bottle. Upon making contact with the refreshing spray, Asher perks up and surrounds his hands with psychic energy.
“That’s more like it!” You remark.

Somehow, Dave fails to notice this recent development and points at Asher dramatically before giving his next order. “Let’s take him down with Drill Run!”

Dunsparce takes flight and performs a midair spin before twirling rapidly with his drill like tail aimed at Asher.

“Try using Hypnosis!” You urge, hoping that Asher’s run in with Larvesta further developed his abilities.

As Dunsparce quickly approaches, Asher raises his hands which now take on a light blue glow. He then unleashes the energy in the form of several blue hypnotic circles which stop Dunsparce in his tracks, causing him to fall asleep mere feet away from where Asher is standing.

“Dunsparce, get up!” Dave pleads to the snoring snake napping on the floor. “We’re so close to securing the lead!”

When Dunsparce does not respond to Dave’s coaxing, you breathe a sigh of relief and begin to lay out a plan for overcoming these unfavorable odds.

>Use Hypnosis Confusion

>Send out Exeggutor and Accelgor

Rolled: Irrelevant
Result(s): Success

“I can’t believe this! This is why they should’ve given us more than just one of everything!” Dave laments as Dunsparce sleeps soundly.

“You snooze, you lose.” You reply, having come up with a plan. “Asher, use Confusion and send him towards Pignite!” You say, pointing at the malevolent pig.

Asher traps Dunsparce in his telekinetic grasp and picks him up before tossing him onto Pignite’s head. Though this does little more than annoy the brawling Fire-type, it distracts him long enough for Rhyhorn to run him over with Bulldoze, taking the Fire Pig Pokémon out with a decisive blow. It’s hard to tell if Asher was able to actually defeat Dunsparce due to the serpent’s current state, but it’s safe to say that you won’t need to worry about him for the time being.

“You said you had him!” Thomas yells at Dave, causing the latter to flinch at the sudden outburst.

“He put Dunsparce to sleep!” Dave protests.

“I swear, if I lose to this kid because of you, I’m putting both of your asses to sleep.” Thomas threatens, recalling Pignite and sending out a Hippowdon in his place.

“Ok, ok, think!” Dave mutters, tapping his foot. The grunt then produces one Poké Ball and an Ultra Ball, holding them out in front of him. “Go my minions!” He commands, sending the pair into battle.

As the light fades, your eyes widen at the sight before you. Standing in front of Dave is a massive Alolan Exeggutor accompanied by a stoic looking Accelgor hanging onto the Pokémon’s ridiculously elongated neck that somehow doesn’t cause Exeggutor’s many heads to brush up against the ceiling . After surveying the scene, the odd tree dragon lets out a loud roar and takes a booming step forward.

“Why ?” Is all you can think to say at this unexpected turn of events.

“I’m a Pokémon gangster.” Dave says with pride. “You’re not the only one here who can play dirty!”

“I meant why did you bring an Alolan Exeggutor of all Pokémon to a heist.” You clarify. “You had an entire duffle bag filled with stolen Pokémon to choose from.”

“He and Accelgor are the best Pokémon anybody could ask for.” Dave states defensively.

“And the only ones that would listen to you.” Daphne adds.

“Well at least that means they shouldn’t be too experienced.” You reason, trying to find some comfort in the wake of Dave’s dual wielding gambit.

>Use Hypnosis on the Exeggutor before dropping him on Hippowdon using Confusion

Rolled: 19
Result(s): A Grand Struggle

“Attack!” Dave commands with gusto.

With an affirmative nod, Accelgor leaps off of Exeggutor’s neck and proceeds to fling numerous Water Shurikens at Asher as he flips through the air.

“Watch out Asher!” You warn the stationary psychic as he marvels at the sight of his new opponents.

Thankfully, Asher manages to take his eyes off of Exeggutor long enough to avoid Accelgor’s projectiles causing them to harmlessly splash beside him. As Accelgor gracefully sticks his landing, the walking jungle rears back it’s multiple heads and prepares to launch a torrent of flames at Asher. Inspired by his earlier success, you decide use your Pokémon’s psychic prowess in order to use your enemies against each other.

“Asher, put Exeggutor to sleep and throw him on top of Hippowdon!”

Once again, Asher sends a multitude of blue circles towards his foe, only for the attack to go completely unnoticed by his intended target. Before Exeggutor can rain fire down upon him however, Asher switches to using Confusion and attempts to lift the gigantic Pokémon off of the ground.

“Wait, wait, wait call off the fire!” Dave orders frantically. “Don’t let him pick you up!”

Exeggutor’s multiple heads put out their flames and their faces scrunch up in concentration as they fight against Asher’s hold. The tile floor beneath the behemoth begins to splinter under the strain as Asher struggles to overcome the psychic capabilities of his opponent. Eventually Asher drops his arms in exhaustion, creating several large cracks in the floor once the full weight of Exeggutor and his power goes unopposed.

“Yes!” Cheers Dave as he pumps his fist. “Yes!”

Suddenly, the barriers on the doors are retracted, allowing natural light to flow into the building. The sound of a click confirms that the automatic doors are functional once again.

“Impressive.” Says a voice accompanied by the sound of shoes clicking against the shattered tile. ”It is rare for a Pokémon battle to hold my interest for any amount of time.”

At that moment, the action comes to a screeching halt as everyone turns to the source of this interruption with confused looks on their faces.

‘Everyone’s coming out of the woodwork today.’ You muse to yourself as you scan the room.

“Looking for me would be an exercise in futility, I am completely invisible to the naked eye.” The voice states. “Of course, you could simply follow my voice, but you would not want to be around me once this device runs out of energy.”

“What are you talking about Lance?” You ask, facing his general direction.

“I am afraid I had to retire that pseudonym very recently due to some unexpected interference. To answer your question Walter, I am sure you have already familiarized yourself with my employer’s latest innovation.”

“Wait, those things work on humans too?” Jordan questions aloud.

“Um, hello?” Dave cuts in. “We were kind of in the middle of something here.”

“I apologize for the interruption, but letting you continue a battle that should have never begun in the first place would be nothing less than negligent on my part. I just received word from our contact at the police department that someone has notified the authorities.”

“Did we at least complete the mission?” Daphne asks expectantly.

“We did not find the device on the Professor. After being interrogated, he insisted that he must have misplaced it. A thorough search of the premises did not yield any results however.” The unseen consultant reports,

“Fuck this, it’s every man for himself then!” Thomas exclaims, recalling his Hippowdon and turning to Dave. “Get us outta here man! I parked the whip a few blocks down!”

“Exeggutor, get us out of here!” Dave orders.

The overgrown Exeggutor let’s out a strange sounding roar and violently swings his multiple heads into a nearby wall, smashing it and covering their side of the room with a debris. The squad of grunts then climb onto Exeggutor’s back and recall their remaining Pokémon.

“We’ll be back!” Dave warns as he and his cohorts flee the scene.

“I suppose my employers should be grateful to have such.....interesting pawns.” The man formerly known as Lance comments, sounding somewhat amused.

“What did you do to Violet and the Professor?” Shane questions angrily.

“Have we met?” Inquires the freelancer. “No, I believe I saw you somewhere in the files. I hope you understand that it takes more than simply changing your hair to craft a suitable disguise.”

“You must be thinking about someone else.” Shane replies sharply. “Now talk.”

“The is no need for concern. I simply incapacitated them in order to carry out the mission more efficiently. They should wake up in precisely one hour, five minutes, and thirteen seconds.”

“So it’s over?” You ask. “Just like that?”

“Operations like these often require plans for a swift exit as well. Anyone involved in this scheme would be wise to either pass themselves off as ordinary civilians or disappear before the authorities arrive.”

“What’s wrong? Are you and your goons too scared of a real fight?” Jordan challenges.

“For a professional, fear never factors into the equation.” The consultant explains as the faint sounds of a helicopter approach overhead. “Now, I believe that my work here is done.” He says with pride. The sound of his shoes can be heard as he makes his way to the door.

>Ask questions about Team Offset and the secret organization.

“Do you guys even have an actual plan?” You inquire. “I still don’t know what any of this is about.”

“I am paid to perform difficult tasks, not to understand the goals the of the various groups that I work with. However, we are in an odd position, you and I.”

“How so?”

“You and I have witnessed both the unexplainable and the unknowable. Furthermore, we have had dealings with the individuals who wish to exploit these wonderful secrets be it for control or destruction. Even I am in the dark as to where this is all headed, but these strange times indicate that an invaluable opportunity is approaching.”

“That’s easy to say when you don’t have people chasing you down for ‘knowing too much’.” You reply.

Though you can’t who you’re talking to, the sudden appearance of tension in the air is unmistakeable. “I apologize for the behavior of my collogues. I would have disposed of those hitmen myself had I known that they were sent after you. That being said, I originally gave my word to let you and your friend go under the assumption that you would not become an annoyance for my employers.”

“I’m not the one who set that base on fire the other day if that’s what you’re getting at.” You reply.

“That may be the case, but I have seen children such as yourself topple several vast organizations before and I will not allow such a thing to happen under my careful watch. I suggest you refrain from inserting yourself into situations like these in the future. I do not intend for our next encounter to be as pleasant as this one.”

As you think on what little information you’ve been given, the sound of the approaching helicopter becomes deafening and drowns out the sound of the mysterious free agent’s footsteps as he vanishes through the walls.

“Wait, so there’s two shady groups running around?” Jordan asks.

“I always just assumed they were the same people.” You reply as you recall Asher. “Then again, that museum heist was done by another group so I guess you’re right. I’m just surprised ‘Lance’ somehow ended up working for both of them.”

“There has to be some sort of connection.” Shane asserts with his arms folded. “Everything that’s happened in these last two weeks can’t simply be a string of isolated incidents.”

“Don’t look at me, you’re the one who’s in their files.” Jordan says.

“As I said before, he has me confused for someone else.” Shane scowls. “The people he works for have no reason to pay any attention to me.”

“Are you sure about that Agent Red Wig?” Jordan asks, pressing the issue. “You seemed to know a lot about this heist.”

“I don’t want to be that guy.” You add. “But you were also pretty worried about getting caught back at the hotel even though I was the one breaking into one of the suites. If you’re really that interested in taking these guys down, you have to stop being so secretive around the only people who want to help you.”

Shane narrows his eyes at your comment and briefly glances as the stairs leading to the observation deck and shakes his head. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.” He replies quietly while recalling Rhyhorn to his ball. “You should take that man’s advice.”

Without another word, Shane turns his back on both you and Jordan and walks out of the building through the holes left by the grunts.

“This day really took a left turn.” Jordan sighs as she looks around desolated room.

“It feels like it just started for me.”

“Seriously? What are you gonna do now?”

“Right,” Jordan agrees. “I hope they’re ok.”

Without wasting any time, both you and Jordan make your way to the now abandoned observation deck. Numerous security guard uniforms litter the ground and there are obvious signs that some sort of struggle occurred. The few bystanders who chose to stay are gathered around and looking down upon what could only be the unconscious forms of both Violet and Prof. Larch.

“What happened here?” Jordan asks of one of the well dressed bystanders.

“It was so strange.” The man remarks. “One minute we’re all simply enjoying another battle and the next, a man in a brown coat appears out of thin air and renders Prof. Larch unconscious.”

“What about Violet? There’s no way she didn’t step in.”

“She attempted to help, but those loathsome criminals had been impersonating the security staff. While she dealt with them, the man took her by surprise with some sort of strangle hold. He then had his men line us up against the wall while he took the Professor to another room.” The flustered man explains. “I suppose that a member of the Elite Four is only human at the end of the day.”

“Do you know what they wanted from him?” You prod.

“I haven’t the foggiest idea. They were very secretive about the whole thing. They even had all of us searched without telling any of us what they were looking for. What I don’t understand is why they would commit such a crime here of all places.”

“I guess we won’t learn anything until they wake up.” Jordan sighs as she turns to you. “It’s too bad the police won’t let us near them when they finally show up.”

>Conduct your own search of the observation deck

With nothing else to go off of, you decide to have a look around. After your cursory search of the main hall yields nothing, you decide to look around the luxury box where Prof. Larch was interrogated, At first, you only manage to find more discarded uniforms and several shards of glass littering the ground. What piques your interest however, is the small incubator sitting in a corner on the other side of the room. Inside of the machine sits an unassuming egg that occasionally twitches every so often. It’s obvious that Team Offset weren’t here for this, but that does little to reduce your interest in this discovery.

>Place the egg in your bag and go back to the main hall

>Leave the egg and go back to the main hall

Once you return to the main hall of the observation deck, you spot Gabe sitting by the bar, looking around the room nervously. As soon as he notices you, Gabe approaches and motions for you to follow him before standing closer to you.

“Now don’t lose your ‘ead, but I think they’re onto us.” Gabe whispers, giving the few remaining bystanders a distrustful glare.

“Were you even paying attention to what happened here?” You ask, dumbfounded. “The Professor and a member of the Elite Four were attacked! No one is paying any attention to us.”

“Now’s not the time to be cheeky mate, we can faff about once we leg it and get out of ‘ere. Better safe than sorry an’ all that.”

“Did you find anything?”Jordan asks as she approaches the two of you.

“Not really,” You reply casually. “What about you?”

“Nothing. Not even the Professor’s assistants knew what this was about.”

“I thought you were a Trainer Walter, not a bleedin’ detective.” Gabe remarks. “Are you lookin’ around for your pipe and magnifyin’ glass or what?”

“You’re really popular today.” Jordan says to you before turning to Gabe. “So what’s you’re deal?”

“Most people call me Gabe, but the birds back in Galar call me a nasty habit. I’m just helpin’ this lad ‘ere with his journey or whatever it is he’s doin’.”

“Well that’s reassuring.” Jordan states, rolling her eyes. “I’m going back home before the police come and lock this place down again.” She says, turning her attention back to you. “It’s been fun, but I guess I’ll see you around some other time.”

“Seriously?” Jordan says, taken aback by your offer.

“Well you were already planning on going on your own journey so I figured that now would be the perfect time. We also work pretty well together so I couldn’t think of a better Trainer to ask to travel with me, that I know of anyway.”

Jordan takes a few seconds to think over your proposition. “Sure, I’ll tag along. You were thinking of leaving today right?”

“That was fast.” You remark.

“It’s like you said, it’s a good time to strike out and see what we’re really made of. Besides, you need someone to watch your back while you’re out there and I’d say I’m perfect for the job. I just need some–“

“Aces,” Gabe interjects. “Now that we’ve got everythin’ squared away, we can leg it to the next city.”

“I just need some time to pack my stuff.” Jordan finishes.

“That’s alright, I needed to buy some supplies before going out anyway.” You reply.

“You’re jokin’.” Gabe groans.

“Preparation is one of the most important keys to a successful journey.” You recite. “It’s not like I’m going to be window shopping all day.”

“So how are we gonna get to Aresi City?” Jordan questions. “We can either walk or take the train that connects most of the cities together.”

“Do you really want to walk all the way over there?” Gabe asks rhetorically.

“Why not, that’s how I got there the last time I went. If we just ride all the way we’ll miss out on catching some new Pokémon or battling other Trainers.” Jordan explains.

Also suggest Gabe he catch a pokemon himself if he ain't got one yet. If he is so paranoid about someone coming after him a Pokémon might help him even the odds.

“Then it’s settled.” Jordan says, checking her phone. “I need to pack and say goodbye to everyone, but I’ll meet you guys one the road where Route 5 begins before it gets dark.”

“That’s fine. We should be there in about two hours.” You reply as the three of you begin to make your way down the stairs.

“See you then.” Jordan waves before splitting off from the group.

“Alright,” you say, turning to Gabe. “Let’s get some stuff before we hit the road.”

You’ve been staring at the shelves in Trainers’ Depot for over thirty minutes now, mulling over your options. After thinking things over again, you walk over to the other side of the shelf.

“I’m gonna need another shave if you keep this up.” Gabe comments, tapping his foot impatiently.

“Just give me a moment to think.” You reply.

“You’ve been thinkin’ for what feels like a decade. I hope you realize that you won’t even need half of that crap.”

“There’s no telling what we could run into out there, especially with my luck.” You explain as you pick up a Revive before putting it back down.

“And that’s why I said we should take the bloody train!” Gabe says. “Look if you’re havin’ so much trouble, just grab everythin’ and be done with it.”

You search the shelves one more time and pick out a few items. Even with the money wired to your account by the Battle Circuit, you barely have enough to purchase the bare necessities.

Poké Ball (3): 600 P
Potion (6): 1,800 P
Full Heal (3): 1,800 P
Repel (2): 700 P

You have 5,096 P

I did it this way to avoid a deadlock situation. When it comes to buying items, I’ll provide a basic list of items to purchase that can be edited after the fact along with three options for how you want to pay for them. If you can get two votes supporting your specific list, then I’ll simply go with that.

Once all of the necessary supplies are bought, you and Gabe make another stop so that he can collect his belongings before making the long walk to the outskirts of the city. Once you are out of the city proper, you follow the highway for nearly three miles until you come across a dirt road located off the beaten path. A large white sign indicates that you have official arrived at Route 5.

“Well, this is it.” You announce, checking the map on your Poké Watch. “I guess we beat her here.”

“Brilliant.” Gabe mutters, pulling out a cigarette.

“I’m sure she’ll get here soon.” You reply, taking a seat in the grass.

“If she’s anythin’ like you, she’s probably still at decidin’ between two different outfits.” Gabe remarks as he leans against a tree.

“Are you going to be like this the whole time?” You question.

“You’re the bloke who shock me down for money and dragged me along with you.” Gabe points out. “Then again, if you didn’t show up, I’d be sittin’ tied up in a warehouse somewhere.”

“That’s one way to look at it I guess.”

“I’m still tryin’ to figure out which is worse to be honest.” Gabe replies before taking a drag.

For what seems to be ages, you spend your time watching the clouds go by and listen out for the occasional Pokémon that rustles through the trees. Eventually, you lose track of time and fall asleep to the sounds of nature and the cars the speed by on the road on the other side of the trees.

“He’s right over there.” You hear Gabe say, prompting you to sit up and take a look in his direction.

You immediately notice Jordan coming towards your spot in the grass. She seems to have prepared enough for the entire journey. Judging by her sporty outfit and the size of her bag in comparison to the rest of her, she’s been ready for this day for a long time.

“Sorry I’m late.” Jordan apologizes as she looks down at you. “Vernon and a few of my friends wanted to take me out before I left.”

‘That’s definitely not how my journey started out.’ You muse thinking back to your hasty exit. “It’s fine, I needed the rest anyway.” You say as you rise to your feet.

“Yeah, today was pretty crazy, but I’m ready to take on whatever comes next.” Jordan replies with enthusiasm.

“So we’re all ready to go then, yeah?” Gabe asks as he stands by the two of you.

“As ready I’ll ever be.” Jordan remarks, pointing to her large backpack. “I’ve got the whole trip planned out.”

“Well now that we’re all together, we can make our way to Aresi City.” You announce, slinging your bag over your shoulder.

“Let’s crack on then.” Gabe replies, walking down the path ahead of you.

As your group walks together through the darkening wilderness, you feel as if another long chapter of your journey has come to an end. Though the road still seems as rough and endless as before, you feel more prepared than you ever have been to face all of the oncoming challenges. With your first badge in hand along the support from your team and new companions, you absolutely certain that greatness awaits you.

This concludes Thread #7. I’ll be making an important announcement tomorrow, so stay tuned.

ok till tommorow QM.
>>
I’m going to be upfront with all of you and say that things are about to change. As many of you may have noticed, the daily sessions are starting much later than they have been before. I’m finding that as this year continues, I’m becoming more and more busy dealing with work, family, and other responsibilities. Even when I’m running, I still can’t devote 100% of that time to the quest and now, it looks as if I’ll be spending less time running than before. This isn’t to say that I will be unable to spend any time QMing, but by in large I will have to become a weekend QM. At best, I may be able to update once or twice per day on the weekdays for the foreseeable future.

Though I have run into a few unexpected complications while running this quest, I also underestimated how long it would take to complete this quest. I originally assumed that I could have this finished by the end of the year and though I realize that would’ve have been impossible even with my earlier schedule, it now seems that I may never be able to finish it. For all I know, I may end up being radio silent by the end of the year simply due to the sheer amount of things on my plate. I feel as if my new schedule will be incompatible with not only this style of quest, but the overall imageboard system as well. As much as I would like to see this story come to a satisfying conclusion, I don’t want things to feel as if they’ve slowed to a crawl.

With that out of the way, I would like to explain the solutions that I have come up with for this issue. On the creative side of things, I could simply alter the structure of the story in order to better fit the new schedule. Though this could theoretically work, I’m sure that this is the most dissatisfactory solution that I could think of aside from killing the quest outright. Doing this would cut out a lot of content and would greatly limit the possibilities of the quest. Not to the point of railroading, but it would certainly feel like that way to me. The second option would be pass down my duties as QM onto someone else. As long as I could find a suitable replacement, I wouldn’t have an issue with stepping back and simply voting on how things will unfold. I’m not sure how interested anyone would be in taking over for me however. Finally, I could just go on hiatus and hope that I can eventually be as active as I was during the early days of running this quest. This may be the easiest solution, but there is not guarantee that this is how things will actually play out.

In the spirit of /qst/, I’ll put this to a vote and work from there. The first three votes won’t speak for everyone, but I have a pretty good idea of how many players participate in these threads and I’ll close the vote when I believe that everyone has voted once.

QM Curse strike once again. Serious though While I have some gripes with a few things like everyone having coverage outta their asses, Walter having a 0 on luck and how those combo moves are geared the quest has been very enjoyable, like a 8.5. I been here since the first quest and Seeing Walter going from depressed loser to Ace Trainer has been very wild ride and I rather wait till you can settle your stuff from your side than have the quest take a dive in quality or risk a new QM who may or not fuck things up.

I’m willing to wait for you to come back. This has been a great quest and I don’t want you to have to mess with your plans because of time constraints.

It would be inconvenient for other QMs if I were to churn out a new thread ever week.
>>
>>4412775
You wouldn't be the first one to do that.
>>
>>4412792
Certainly not, but I'd like to avoid doing so. Even taking etiquette out of the equation, I don't think a weekly style would be a good fit for this quest. Nothing of substance can be done in only one weekend.

Oh right, guess I'll vote.

I patiently await your return QM.

Alright, so it looks like the majority has spoken. I've already archived the thread so all of the loose ends are tied up on that front. While I can't say with certainty that I'll be able to properly run this quest again, I can say with full confidence that I've enjoyed developing this story and all of its twists and turns along with you. Once again, I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to participate in these threads and I am especially thankful to everyone who has been onboard since the beginning. Thank you all for your support.
