While the mountain giant will get you more money. It's just too risky for you and the others plus the fact you never worked with the Kobolds in combat before. You don't know how they're react to certain death or will they just left you after they see the battle is lost. The giant slug would be a good practice to see how they work together as a team.

Gobson: “Kobolds, we should kill the giant slug instead. Because a giant is too large for any of us to handle, they don’t just smash with their clubs but also throw giant boulders. Let’s kill the giant slug, it’s slow and we can take it.”
Kobold Leader: “While the giant slug doesn't bring us any glory it will bring us a total of 3 silver.”
Noplo: “We could shoot with our crossbows from a distance and the goblins could keep it busy running around.”
Gobson: “How about us goblins shoot at it with our bows and slings? The slug should be slow enough to let us outrun it.”
Kobold who’s name you don’t know: “Someone will have to be bait for the slug. To allow the other team to shoot at it from a distance while the other team keeps it busy in another direction.”

The rest of the talk was spent talking tactics, the location of the slug is already known. The only thing that has to talk about is who does what, and how much money the goblins get compared to the kobolds. Since no goblin can speak Dwarf, Star was able to get the Kobolds get the quest and half of the payment. The rest will be given when the slug is dealt with, you're going to have to talk with them just how much money the goblins get compared to the Kobolds.

After walking a distance over rough terrain with the 5 kobolds and you and your two goblin friends the slug was in view. It was eating on the flesh of a killed Underdark creature. It doesn’t seem to notice you or the others. The kobolds get out their light crossbows each and load them. You and Bits have your slings, and Prot has his bow. The only thing left to do is go through with the plan you set up with the Kobolds.

We have to be big brained to get the debt paid off. 3 silver that's going to be split among the kobolds and bit's and prot is not going to make a dent in the debt. We should atleast try to capture it and sell it, it's not like it's going to be fast enough to catch us anyways.

Here is the problem with your plan
1. Making a caged trap big enough
2. Thinking the Kobolds can make a hole big enough to house a giant slug.
3. If a hole is big enough what's to stop the slug from coming out
4. Thinking they can carry all those supplies just to try a trap

I'm pretty sure we have options, like we can buy more rope at the city or get sleeping drugs or something, where the fuck is it going to go, we can prepare to do something with it as long as we want if it's trapped. And it's not like if we trap it the only option is going to be to sell it. We can just kill it while it's trapped if we can't find a way to detain it. I think trapping is the safest way in general anyways, we don't have to fight it, and we could just sling it to death from above or something. Listen the traps are going to work because three of the kobolds critted, and the trap doesn't have to be a giant hole. If we just try to whittle it down with ranged it's going to lose a lot of health but not die, but if we manage to trap it we take out in one fell swoop. Trapping it doesn't mean we HAVE to bring back to the city anons. I think it's the safest way for killing it too. Remember Kobolds are supposed to be really big experts at traps.

You lead the goblins closer to the giant slug and under cover behind rocks and silence movement the slug doesn’t see you or your friends. With your fingers you count down to when to launch the combined attack. With all the fingers down the signal to fire is put to action.

The giant slug roars in pain as the bolts from the kobolds come flying in hitting with deadly accuracy. Some hit it's spine while others hit it's soft flesh. It was still standing and ready to make a move, but with you near the beast you can knock it out before it has a chance to do anything. Prot lets loose his bowstring and hits the slug in between it’s boney back.

Your own attack doesn’t go as planned, you must have been spinning it too fast that it sling fell apart in your hands and hit you in the back of the head. You go down and hear the sounds of laughter from a distance. You are picked up and propped against a stone wall, and slowly you regain your senses. Your vision is blurred and you see an unconscious bleeding slug and a bunch of colorful figures climbing on the slug.

After a minute of blurry vision you see that your sling is completely destroyed, the slug bleeding had slowed down and it was tied up with the kobolds gone as well. Your goblin friends are nearby keeping a lookout and Bits walked up to you once he noticed you are better.

Bits: “Gobson are you alright?”
Gobson: “Yeah, good thing I was wearing a helmet, what in Maglum’s name happened?”
Bits: “Your sling broke and hit your head, the kobolds tied up the slug and since it’s too heavy to drag went to talk with the Dwarf. We’re here to take care of it and you.”
Gobson: “Alright. Help me up Bits.”

You grab his hand and pick yourself up, it doesn’t take long for a Dwarf to come with a wagon of big beasts pulling it. You see the Dwarf exchange money with Star who the leader then takes from her. He comes over and places 1 silver coin in your hand.

Kobold Leader: “Here is your pay. Get the goblins ready, we're going to travel and meet us in the front of the inn in half an hour.”

After thinking about it, they did most of the work with all their bolts hitting their marks, they also have more members in their team as you accept the payment with a smile.

You walk back with your boys, they talk about what quests and adventure they will have in the nation of Asmana. While you think of what to do with the silver you just made, they want a share but with every share you give them another share you’re going to need to pay back your debt. The trip back to the inn was a safe one, without any dangers. Everyone packs up their items into their bags. You finally can make sure of the javelins you got from Ots while not finely made like an average javelin it would do the job. There was one more thing that needed to be settled before you start your trip. How are you and the others going to make it through the border between the counties?

You listen in to the plans that the Kobolds have set up. It’s either going straight across the mountains and wildness to get across the border. This entails going to unknown dangers, to avoid getting hold up by border guards. The other option is going to the frontier hillock town and trying to cross through there. But no one knows the current situation over there, if crossing is even allowed as the nation is currently suffering from civil war.

There was one more problem to account for, it was Stas, she is still pregnant and will slow everyone down. She says that she can handle overland travel in the mountains be it to a town or through the wilderness but you’re not sure about that. If anything happens you could always make use of Wolfson's blood.

You will let the Kobolds make the choice, while you go get the money split up for the boys. The Dwarf didn’t cheat you out and then you’re down to 3 bronze and 3 copper. A third of the silver, but your friendship with the boys remained. They thanked you for the coins and ate some of their food.

You walked on over to where the Kobolds are at, you only know two of their names. Which is Noplo and Star. You also start noticing that Jade and Emerald are always hanging out with the Kobolds and rarely speak with the goblins. Something to keep in mind but for now you want to learn from the masters of trap making. Kobolds may have bested you before, but this time you’ll learn from them.

Gobson: “How do I make the best trap?”
Kobold Leader: “Go speak with Noplo the green one, he’s the trap expert” With a thank you let the leader pick the route of going to the town while you speak with the green Kobold.
Gobson: “Hey Noplo. I hear you’re the local trap expert in your group. How do I make the best trap?”
Noplo: “Gobson you may never reach my skills, but maybe you can learn how to make simple traps. To answer your questions there is a set of principles that trap makers should know. Do you know them?”
Gobson: “No.”
Noplo: “Allow me to enlighten you. Pay attention. The four main things to make a perfect trap. The first being making sure that the trap is hidden, the second main thing is you’re using the right trap for the prey, the third thing is that the trap is properly baited because a trap without bait is going to go empty for a long time. The last important thing for a perfect trap is creativity, working with what you have to make a trap.”

After explaining the four main things to make a perfect trap, he came up with a little story of how he fooled a goblin with one of his master traps. By a tree there was a box held up by a wooden stick with a simple drawing on some parchment he was able to trap a goblin with minimal effort. You think that he made up that story, but thinking how wild goblins act you wouldn’t put that past them.

The discussion was a long one and by the end of it, the Kobolds and the goblins were traveling across the mountains. A few more hours of sunlight still shines meaning you may still have time to learn a bit more before you must sleep.

Depending if a Alchemist needs it. If you sell it to a butcher they will just pay you steak prices.

As much as a farmer is willing to pay you to save him a few days work that you can do in a few minutes, depending on how big his field is. Since after it's plowed the farmer still needs to seed it. So you only saved him some days of work. Most farmers don't own their own farm or land meaning they are poor serfs. You'll be paid in food not money most of the time or whatever the farmer has to trade(not much) Also depending on what season it is. You won't find work if its winter or fall.

Or you can try to work out a contract with a local lord to actually get paid money and increase his crop yield when harvesting happens.

Now that you are at a walking pace and not running to keep up with some long leg cat person you can do things like improve your Draconic. But right now there are some things that are peaking your interest. First what are the names of the Kobolds of the group and what do they do in the group. Why does Star have your magic tome. Do the other two Kobolds in your party have anything to arm themselves with? First you’re going to speak with Star, she greets you with a wave.

Gobson: “Hello Star. How far are you in that book?”
Star: “This old thing, well Bradley was teaching me from it before he left. He’s such a good teacher must be the part Elf he has within his veins. But the person who I should really thank, is you Gobson. It’s your tome, the one you found in the necromancer tower.”

Gobson: “Interesting, so you’ll learning from it since you’re the magic Kobold in the group?”
Star: “I wouldn’t say I’m a wizard, more like the priestess of Lydos. I like to learn magic when I get the chance. It’s not everyday you find a book from Ssistlih written by a real Dragonborn and a famous one at that. Would you like me to read the opening for you?”
Gobson: “Yes please.”

Star: “Alright. Sorcerer magic, the art of destruction of solid matter. Volume 1. Prime, Wit of the Talon. The art of degrading a solid matter to its base elements is an artform. Question yourself why does matter of any kind degrade? Gobson are you okay?” She asked as you try to process the information. So many words you never heard before, what do they mean?
Gobson: “It’s just that I still need some learning in Draconic. I’m having a hard time keeping up what you just read.”

Star: “That’s alright Gobson. If you just keep speaking Draconic you’ll get it down in no time. Maybe you could talk with the other Kobolds in the team.”
Gobson: “Yes. That’s what I wanted to ask as well. Maybe you can introduce me? So I can have a better understanding of what the others do.”
Star: “Great, just follow my lead.”

You walk to match her pace and walk up to the first Kobold. He’s wearing a green cloak and he’s one of the Orange Kobolds. He carries on his hip a sword and in his hands is a crossbow.

Star: ”This one is called Hahlo. Hahlo say hello.”
Hahlo: “Hello Grigger.”
Star: “Hahlo is such a joker. Tell Gobson what you do?”
Hahlo: “I’m a hunter.”
Star: “Nice talking with you Hahlo. Come on Gobson let’s meet the leader, you already know Noplo the trapper.”

She then takes you to make the biggest Kobold of the group and the leader of them. He has on his shield strapped on his back, on his hip is a sword, and he’s the Kobold leading their donkey across the rough terrain.

You follow her walking a bit faster where you see the other green Kobold in the distance keeping a look out as he moves from rock to rock hiding.

Star: ”That’s Duppo, he’s the Scout of our party. And last it’s me Star Sapphire and you already know that I’m a priestess to Lydos. That’s the group we all came together because we wanted to see the whole wide world, and together as a Kobold Posse will keep us safe. Like how you travel with goblins.”
Gobson: “Thank you Star it was nice learning about the others. Even if they didn’t say much.”
Star: ”Is it alright, if I keep a hold of the book? We can learn together from me teaching you.”
Gobson: “Yeah, keep it safe for me. I have to talk with the others.”
Star: ”Alright Gobson. See you later.”

You wave bye to her and talk with Emerald asking her if she has something to arm herself with. She does, under her dress is a sharp dagger, not just one in her hip but on her thigh. Jade had herself a sword on her hip so you really didn’t have to ask. It was time to practice some more Draconic with her.

Jade: “Hey Gobson. What did you talk about with Star?”
Gobson: “Just finding out the names of the other Kobolds, both the orange ones are Hunters. The greens are a scout and a trapper, and Star is a priestess. I wouldn’t have imagined that, anyway can you help me with the Draconic?”
Jade: “Of course Gobson, If you keep this up, you’ll know Draconic as well as you know Orcish.”
Gobson: “What’s Orcish?”
Jade: “The language you’re speaking right now silly.”

So you spent the last drying hours of light to speak with Jade repeating the same words over and over again until you get it right. Repeating saying the same string of words together to form a proper phase. When it is time to sleep, the sadness in your heart seems to melt away. Maybe it’s the fact you’re surrounded by friends.

With a new day, it means another day of learning. You can practice your Draconic with some native speakers as that’s the only thing they speak. You also have some things that you have to do with getting a new sling from Ria, asking the others how to get some money quickly. Asking Jade for her full name and seeing how the boys are doing.

Gobson: “Ria. Make me a sling.”
Ria: “No leather, no sling. Now let me rest, the starlight is out.”

With that idea ruined you go ask the boys what they are doing and if they have any idea of how to get lots of money real fast. They seem to be drawing and comparing different styles.

Gobson: “How is going boys? How have you been doing?”
Bits: “You know good. Just been drawing with Prot.”
Prot: “What do you want Gobson?”
Gobson: “Nothing, just wanted to know how my boys are doing. Do any of you know how to make money quick?”

Jade: “Don’t be upset over that joke. As for your question, most of the time the more dangerous you take a quest, the greater the rewards. There also the more renown that you have the more you can charge from your services. That kind of thing.”

The rest of the day was spent talking and learning Draconic. Since you are surrounded by native speakers it seems easier to learn new words. Even reading Draconic you’re able to practice your Draconic as you have to sound out the vowels and letters. When you tried your hand on learning Dwarf you noticed that it's more difficult to learn than Draconic.

The morning there came a surprise Stas stopped being pregnant. She now had three alive boys and from just looking at them you’re not sure how they’re going to turn out. You never saw a cross wolf and goblin baby, neither did anyone else. The Kobolds don’t seem to care either way as they continue on the trip. The boys are impressed that everything went without any problems, they were expected at least one or half of the babies to not make it.

Another day, means another day of you trying your best to become a better goblin. You have so many things planned for today that the first has to do with learning from Jade some draconic. But before lessons can even begin you ruin it by asking if Kobolds have a certain reflex.

Jade: “Gobson let's not do lessons today, I don’t feel like it. Maybe you should meditate at least once a day and don’t let those thoughts influence your mind.” Her face was in a frown, like she was disappointed in you. You can only hang your head in shame for you know, she was being serious.
Gobson: “I’m sorry Jade.” Is all you can say before you walk away from her, trying to avoid her glaze as a wave of worry and restlessness washes over you.

You stay behind the main group and clear your mind looking at the mountain side, the white peaks, the blue sky currently covered in clouds. You drive away the impure thoughts of your mind and make yourself calm once more.

It was overall successful in clearing your mind, but you can’t shake the memory of what you did. You choose not to speak with her for the rest of the day, or anyone else because you don’t want to relive what happened. It makes your skin crawl just thinking about it.

You spend the rest of the day staying alert around you, avoiding letting the other get close. When they speak with you, you answer with the minimal amount of words needed and quickly distance yourself from them. The feeling of worry seems to crawl back when you get close to others. Maybe some hunting would do the trick to take your mind off what you said to Jade.

You keep the group in view as you go up and down mountain valleys and the hillsides. You see some smoke burning from the distance and go to see what it is. You didn’t get that far before a buck headed human walked into your view. You didn’t even see him or hear him walking as he appeared from behind a tree. You see a stringed bow and a quiver of arrows are hanging from the branch of the tree.

With a short sword he stands in front of you some distance away and twirls his blade as he slowly walks to you. He has no shield and wears some boiled leather and a chain-mail shirt. He does not speak at first as you slowly step back and take out your axe and shield. You sense fear within yourself, as he keeps twirling his blade in his hand.

Deer person: “Fight me Grigger.” He says in Draconic as he twirls his blade at every word.

He keeps twirling his blade and bouncing around his feet as he watches you very closely. Once it was clear you were not going to attack as you’re waiting for the perfect moment to strike he did something very unexpected. He leads with the arm that is weapon free with deadly speed.

He hopped to the left then very quickly hopped to the right getting inside your guard. He was doing a feint and if Maglum wasn’t watching over you, he would have grabbed your hand and ruined it. But with his aid you landed a strike on the Deer as he tried the maneuver. He hopped back with slight surprise on his face before returning back to his neutral form.

With him waiting for your attack you choose to not keep him waiting, with your trusty shield you could stun him allowing you to attack him fully when he tries to come back to his senses. You rush in past his guard and aim at his groin as he is much larger than you, he slows down your bash with his sword hand.

The shield connects with his blade knocking it out of his hand and into the ground. He is knocked back for a moment before he returns the bash with his large body. He collides with you and push you away, you stumble back a few feet but still standing. You don't get a break as he twists your helm around your head blinding you to the world.

You panic and twist the helm back to rightful back, during the few seconds that you took to see once again he did not attack. He gathered his weapon back again and was waiting for you to fix your helmet.

Deer Human: “Nice try, but your shield won't be there to save you all the time. Someday your shield will be nothing but splinters. Try to land just one purposeful blow on me with that Dwarven axe.” He keeps taunting you as he twists his sword in his hand, he's showing no sign of stopping as he twirls his blade from one hand to the other waiting for your strike.

It was time for this deer person to know what it feels like to be in pain. You charge at him and spin around hoping something lands. It does you feel your Axe hand hit something as you spin, and spin. But the deer did a counter to it, he used your spinning against you striking at your axe with one swing of his sword.

Then he jumped and kicked you in the back of the head as you were spinning, with your back to him you couldn’t defend against it as you are knocked over by the force of his blow and fall to the ground with your vision turning to black as he laughs over your body.

The first sense to come back is your smell, there was a pleasant smell within the air. Next you felt wrappings all over your body, a heavy fur blanket on top of you. Next you can see you’re inside a log cabin, decorations with furs of animals, antlers of different shapes and sizes with words under them. He is currently tending to a large iron pot pouring it’s contents in a bowl. He notices that you are awake and begins speaking to you in Draconic.

Deer Human: “You fought well for a goblin. Most goblins I encounter just grunt and can't form a proper word, much less realize that I'm not a regular deer. Try not spinning while in combat that left you open to all my attacks.” He hands over the bowl of stew over to you, you carefully take it from him. You can’t really attack or defend yourself with you laying in bed your gear the other side of the single room cabin.

Deer Human: “Don’t worry the stew may taste unpleasant but rest assured that it’s just the herbs helping your body heal.” He says this after you eye the stew carefully, as he paces around the room. “So tell me Goblin what is your name? I expect you are not traveling by yourself by how you can speak Draconic. Tell me what brings a grown goblin out in my parts.”

You look outside and see that it turned to night. Meaning that you were here for hours, you can only hope the others didn’t travel far when they stopped from the night.

Gobson: “I was out hunting when I came across you, I tried to explain that I didn’t want to fight but messed up on my use of Draconic. I fumble on the words and say some things I shouldn’t have said and thank you for not killing me.”

Lyari: “Ah I see, if you didn’t want to fight you could have just yielded. I don’t like killing random people I just met while they are trespassing in my land.”
Gobson: “What is yield? And why do you fight random people when you first meet them?”

Lyari: “Yield is when you throw down your weapons and put your hands up to surrender it allows others to know you’re no longer willing to fight. Most people will accept your yield, the act alone shows that you are more than just another goblin. But be careful of psychopaths that just want blood or hungry monsters and creatures. If you're traveling to Asmana you should be fine. Just yield to the bandits and let them take what they want and you’ll be fine. Most people just want some food and money. As for fighting, a good first fight makes a good impression and forms a stronger bond after shedding blood.”

Gobson: “Interesting.” You said and take a sip of the stew. Not the worst thing you tasted or the best. It had a slight good taste that filled you up, if there was some meat in it maybe it would have tasted better.
Lyari: “Glad someone likes my food, it’s not very often I get visitors who are not spirits of the forest or Vulpe who only wants to use my place as his home.”
Vulpe: “I don’t do that Lyari. I just use this place to get the ladies.” Suddenly out of nowhere a transparent fox spirit thing shows up.
Lyari: “Fuck off Vulpe.” He then disappeared back into the spirit realm.

Lyari: “Anyway been a while since my kids visited. They must be busy with their own families and without my Lyndis there isn’t much to do here but live day by day.” He says and stares off like he's remembering the past.
Gobson: “What was that?”
Lyari: “That was Vulpe, he's a spirit, he must have used some of his power to make himself known to you. So where are you off to and who with?”

Gobson: “You are correct in thinking that I’ll be traveling to Asmana. But it don’t be just me, but also with the Kobolds party named the White Dragon Posse. We are trying to go to a Dwarf Fortress right now but I found you instead while I was hunting.”

If you learn magic from Star you'll be practicing speaking Draconic and learning magic. But you don't be learning how to read it. It will depend on how much Star wants to do, since she don't always want to read out loud and repeat certain words you still don't understand. If someone isn't there to read to you anymore, than you stop learning. But if you learn to read than you'll have the chance to read at your own pace and spent days on days learning.

Magic by itself takes a long time to learn, time is what you'll have if you trip a boat trip across the world.

Gobson: “I’ll be more than happy to get your help Lyari. Someone to lead me through this forest back to my friends sounds like a good deal to me. But I do have some questions like where did you learn Draconic.”
Lyari: “Glad to hear it, I learnt from a Dragonborn I used to travel with during my Golden years before I settled down with Lyndis. He’s an odd one that Dragonborn was part of the Messermen. He would always want to try the various tastes each nation had to offer.”

Gobson: “If you learnt from a Dragonborn do you also know how to read Draconic, I’m asking about it, because I want to learn some magic.”
Lyari: “Good luck learning magic, without a proper tome, learning will be trial and error for the longest time. Reading is always a good skill, as it opens up the door to many worlds filled within inked pages. If you want to learn magic, get the proper book and learn how to read as my magic has to do mostly with nature, none of those fireballs or ice balls that most people want to learn.”

The rest of the hour is just spent looking at his crafts made of wood, asking for a spare sling he doesn’t have, not understanding the names of the herbs or what they do as he only knows about the herbs in his own language. Asking about his kids which he doesn’t stop talking about until you ask to see the chain shirt that he’s talking about.

Gobson: “May I see the chain shirt?”
Lyari: “Right. Let me get packing. We have to find your friends before they leave you behind.” He goes over to the chest he was in the corner pulled out a length of rope with a noose tied to it he puts it aside and puts out some chain pile and dumps it on your hands. They drop from the weight of it.

Lyari: “Gobson you’re a bit weak, wear that shirt and you’ll see yourself growing stronger. Now Vulpe watch over my home, until I come back.” You hear a distant yes as Lyari does his packing. You do as well, you notice your axe suffered from the fighting and it feels different from before. After he bids a farewell to his home you set off to find the others.

Wearing the Chain shirt weighs you down by a ton, you couldn’t believe he moves so fast in it. It’s like your whole body is lifting weights as you move. Just by the few hours of walking you were tired and the camp was found. They sounded the alarm when you and Lyari got close but after explaining what happened everyone settled down. Lyari had a frown on his face after finding out that the White Dragon Posse is just a bunch of Kobold going on an adventure. He climbs up on a tree to rest for the night.

You awoke the next day feeling better than before. You need to decide what to do with the chain shirt you were given. While it gives you better protection, it's going to weigh you down as you need to get used to wearing it like you did with your leather armor.

How armor works. The more Armor you have the more likely you are to get hit in combat, but CRITS against you are less likely and less damaging. The less Armor you have the less likely you are to get hit in combat, but if you get CRIT it's going to do more damage.

(Chain Shirt is Medium Armor class, and will increase your strength with each day you wear it and travel with it. Right now if you wear your full leather gear with graves (AC 10) you’ll get -4 to rolls to sprinting or moving maneuvers. A +12 without the graves. (AC 9). When you first started wearing it, it was at -70 but over time the - mod went away with usage. Using Chain with graves will give you (AC 14) -81 to maneuvers, if you stand and fight you don’t worry about this only if you want to run away. (AC 13) without graves -61 to maneuvers.)

TLDR: Wearing Chain gives Str, but you’ll don’t be able to run away until you level the Armor skill up
