One anon made a quest a few days ago and I wanted to continue it because why the fuck not?

After the victory of communism on Earth, peace was a possibility no one was ready for.

Advances of technological progress on the Earth. Over-abundance of resources and eliminating the need for most types of manual labor.
Your world became highly technologically advanced, managed by an anarchistic meritocracy society.

Eventually, mankind became capable of interstellar travel.

In the world you know, there is no state structure, no institutionalized coercion.
Everyone is expected to be responsible individuals.

The functioning of the society is safeguarded by you as well as the other occupants of planet Earth with the guidance of the World Council accepted by everyone in each field of activity, divided into smaller councils for each region of the planet.

That is the world you know and will ever know.

But the lottery granted opportunities beyond what you ever imagined.
The chance of becoming part of your local Regional Council through a pure chance of lottery. An AI in charge of making sure everyone is satisfied and working, it granted humans with tasks and rewards, to keep them entertained and with a healthy state of mind.
For there was no better joy than working for the future of humanity.

The lottery began to compute multiple numbers.. several citizens had been picked..

On the last number.. apartment complex number came, then your citizen id number was called. And so your days of being jobless and an outcast of society was over.
>>
You were escorted from your apartment block to the offices of the higher councils, after all the lottery had granted you special rights and an interview, a job offer suited for your skills.

They take you into a small room filled with a desk and a computer terminal.

You sink in the chair as the officer leaves, another man enters, he seems to be somewhat overweight and older.

He introduced himself as a supervisor of the department, he was very happy and welcomed you aboard the team with a firm handshake, apparently, it wasn't a mistake like you originally believed. The AI had been paying attention to you for a while now, undecided about which job you were most capable of. That explained your current disemployment situation.
At least now you won't have to feel the shame of being another "lazy comrade" locked inside your room wasting your days with your personal computer.

The chair was comfortable and the room's temperature was adjusted just perfectly yet you were still nervous, your feet feel cold as if you were being watched. But there was no one behind you and the room was empty.

The supervisor sits on the other side on the desks and slides a pad across the table, the screen showed a document file with blank spots for information.

"We just need to you reconfirm a few things, medical information, signatures, contract, that sort of stuff" he says adjusting his glasses.

You began to fill it, it hummed lowly once you touched the [SEND] button.
It began to show a small film, it was a commercial for the cosmonaut program, an orange space suit floating peacefully in the space, the symbol of the W.C. filled the screen at the end. Then another document appeared.

Congratulation citizen [ _________________ ] you've been choosen to form part of the:

>Department of Acquisition.

>Department of Observation.

Thank you for participating in the lottery, citizen of block A34.

"Excellent, so... a few things first, this job is.. new.. if you can call it that way. You are going to be required to leave the planet for another location, but don't worry. Everything will be explained, I can't tell you much right now only the very basics since not everything has been confirmed.
You walked the hallways of the building with him, he took you to the same transport pod which you first used to arrive, he said his goodbyes and that you were going to see each other soon on the platform.

A few days later, a package and a letter arrive at your door.

The package contained information pamphlets about the Institute of History, museums, and tours, among other items from their gift shop. There was a sheet of paper with your information and signature, Ivan Starsha, it contained very basic information about the job.
They were going to prepare you to take several courses in human anthropology, history among other subjects, you were excited about being part of such a task. It was something that you desire greatly, escaping from the monotony of your life.

The job offer was simple enough, take a trip to the Earth's orbit for a voyage to a newly discovered sector containing life, a new experimental space station had been built and your job was to get there for a briefing.

And so you said your goodbyes to planet Earth.

The port platform was bustling with people, you felt disoriented at first, but luckily you managed to find your way among the staff and the other passengers.
The shuttle 6P was the one supposed to take you, it was something massive, expected to reach the station A1-D4 in little to no time.

You felt a small tap on your shoulder.

It is the supervisor, he is pleased to see you at the launching pad on the right time, he informs you that your belongings are going to be taken care off, but that you are not going to be using them often because of your job. Regardless they were safely deposited on the cargo containment.

He introduced himself has Mr. Linov but preferred to be called by his name, Yasuf.

You both boarded the shuttle and made your way into your cabin.
He explained in great detail about the "beds" since you never left Earth before. Apparently traveling through the stars was easy but not so easy as it seems, he noticed you getting a lost with all his technical talk so he made it brief, It would seem that moving at such high speed, takes a toll on one's mind, the brain is not used to and needs time to readjust.

Sometimes rather violently.

That is why a particular substance was created in order to slow down the mind and body so it can process all these changes more calmly. It is administered through vaccine allowing one to rest safely in sleeping pods as the cosmos is explored, he says with a bright smile, eyes beaming with energy.
You were never fond of medicine administered in such a way but you didn't mind as it was something necessary.

The journey will be long and it will need to stop midway for refueling and new cargo, modules required for the assigned tasks, and finally, to update the AI with newer coordinates that were needed for the piloting systems as you were going on a newly discovered sector, an experimental facility peacefully drifting waiting for you and your coworkers.
>>
Once inside, you were given a proper jumpsuit to facilitate the systems to keep in touch with your vital signs, you took a seat on the chair that was on the small cabin that you shared with the supervisor. All sorts of cables needed to be connected to the chair, one, in particular, had extended a needle penetrating your skin once it made contact with the jumpsuit's slot.

You search through the computer for more information, you still haven't been briefed for the job and you never heard about the Institute of Experimental History before, an alert pops up, it's about one of your favorite shows. You get distracted watching the trailer, then you see another video that gets your attention, then another and another. You end up enjoying yourself then you realize that someone is speaking through the intercom.
The shuttle is about to launch.

Suddenly you yelp from pain, one of the cables attached to the jumpsuit had stung you.
the feeling was starting to begin pleasant enough that you felt tired much more relaxed. You began to drift away on a peaceful sleep.
The last thing that you noticed was that chair had begun to move on its own, readjusting itself horizontal

You come to your senses.

You are resting on your back, you are covered by a structure, it is blurry, beneath the transparent plastic, you notice a red light turning on and off.

It takes you but a moment to calm yourself and find the manual mechanism to open the cover.

You push the thick plastic, the multiple cables and tubes get detached from your jumpsuit as you get out, nausea hits you as you move your legs and sit on the bed that used to be a chair.

You are still in your cabin, there is enough space to move around. The yellow emergency lights signal the path to exit airlock, the red light that keeps turning on and off comes from a lightbulb on a wall on the end of the cabin opposite to the airlock, it seems to be a removable panel.

All the windows shutters seem to be stuck, you cannot get them open.

You decide to search the cabin for any possibles clue, you try looking around the chair but find nothing, then you remember the computer on the seat sides, you press a few buttons hoping to turn it on, the screen shows a few icons. No signal and low power then the screen goes black.
There is power for emergency lights but not enough to power the computer.

You turn around and decide to inspect the windows more carefully, you cannot move the shutters, they are actually bolted down. No way to lift them without control.

You remember about the personal AI on the ship, one can ask for assistance by pressing a button on the chair, which you do. You end up getting a few automated responses, but nothing useful, you would need to ask for specific commands if you want more information.

There isn't a lot that you can do inside the cabin, aside for few commodities such as a personal bathroom, cabinet with a few drinks, and packed meals.

Suddenly you hear someone hitting the airlock.

You ponder what to do next, the noise keeps going, you pay attention more carefully noticing that the long pauses in between.

You walk to the airlock but then remember about decompression and that maybe the ship is damaged, the air might have leaked causing the lockdown on the shutters.

The airlock is unpowered, you manually pry it open with the valve mechanism.

A sudden cold almost freezes your nose, the air is very cold, all around you see trees, the ground around what it would seem your cabin is disturbed as if it had crashed on the ground. If it wasn't for the jumpsuit you would probably start shaking in less than a few hours.
You take a step outside, you notice that the cabin is, in fact, a pod similar to a personal transport vehicle from the city. Around the airlock, there shapes signaling that it detached itself from the ship.

You are someone approaching, a small figure spying from one of the closer trees, looking at the ground you see a few pebbles.

You call forward to the small figure.

At first, it doesn't move, but then you continue to call, staring at its direction.

It peeks from the tall tree, revealing itself to be a small boy or a girl, small stature with dirty blond hair. Dressed in rags, poorly stitched together with different pieces of cloth and leather not pretty but practical against the cold and snow that surrounds the area.

"@@@@&&&&&#####?" it points to your pod.

You don't seem to be able to understand the language, you are gonna need AI assistance to adapt the language to your implant.
The small children seem to be weak and covered in dirt, you wonder what would he be doing all alone in the forest, but then again, your pod did crash on this planet violently.

You dismiss the child and continue to examine the pod, nothing appears to be broken, but most of the power lines are unplugged or disconnected. It would seem that the cabin was meant to be detached from the main ship.

But that doesn't explain why. You were supposed to board an orbital station for briefing.

Wolves howling in the distance startle you, back in your homeland, animals were creatures used for pets and observation. You recall during your days at the academy when animals were used as slaves for food and other commodities, even as machines for pulling heavy loads.

But this sets your priorities, you are on an unknown planet, barely enough food for a day or two, freezing temperatures and no way to contact the space station if it still exists.

You turn to the kid, trying to speak to him is useless as it continues to ask questions, you decide to go inside your cabin waving the kid dismissing it.

The cabin, now starting to get cold since the temperature system is deactivated, you walk to the end of the pod. The red light above the panel is no longer on, you pry off the panel from the wall.

"***###@@@!"

You move the rectangular panel placing it against the wall, you notice the kid, it followed you, looking all around him examining the cabin trying to absorb every detail with its eyes.

Looking back at what is inside of the space, it is hollow, there is machinery inside. A small square platform with pieces attached to it, its a fabricator. Nothing too complex but next to it there is

Against the wall you see two compartments, you pull one of them revealing a small black rectangle.

There's a scanner, similar to a handheld game console only much bigger there is a camera on the other side of the screen, it's light and it still has power. The screen displays a low temperature, you point the camera to the kid, it doesn't display anything interesting.
If you want to scan complex organism, you are gonna need a sample to examine more carefully.

On the other compartment, you pull something much bigger similar to a short briefcase, you open it finding tools of different sizes. You put it on the floor and sit to inspect them, you recognize a welding tool, flashlight, shovel, a pocket crowbar.

There's plenty but only for basics operations.

You notice the kid spying over your shoulder, looking at him closer you see that his cheeks are sunken into the skin, you are not surprised it. This planet must be very harsh to live in, it makes you wonder why did the supervisor need you to come here.

You waste no time making an inventory, there is a lot of stuff here, you start making a mental inventory of what you have and what you don't.

Looking at the back of the pod, you can see the solar panels, it appears they were extended when you crashed, a lot of damage on its surface. You try to salvage the ones that are beyond repairs, their frame is composed of metal.

The ones that didn't take damage on their surface were either detached on the ground or almost hanging on. You go back to the cabin for the toolkit and begin to work on repairs.

First, you find the power panel inside the cabin, you unscrew the lid and shut down both the inside of the cabin machinery and the solars.
Outside you pull apart the ruined panels and strip them from their frame, you weld the metal together into makeshift support for the panels, you press the buttons of the welder increasing the temperature.

The kid yelps, amazed by the color of the flames coming from the tool, it makes you wonder how far is the civilization on this planet.
Then it hits you, the department of Observation, you heard it before it was on a documentary about a scientist team sent to planet and they were slowly helping it progress without influencing it too much.

Space traveling was a very demanded comodity only reserved by higher positions inside the council, the very rich and for scientists or engineers looking for work.

Perhaps that is the reason the Institute wanted you to come here? To observe? The department that you picked was called Acquisition, but what exactly did they want you to acquire?

You continue to weld, putting the new frame against the wall of the pod, once is finished you consider that it should be enough for now, it would be enough to get some of the computers working but only for a few hours. Repairing the panels is going to be a longer task.

The temperature is beginning to drop, your face feels numb, you go back inside the cabin turning the electronics back, you decide whether to cook up some rations or just suck a tube of protein paste.

Looking back at the kid you fell something on in your chest, guilt.

You unscrew the tube of protein and begin to suck, it tastes like roasted meat, salty and very rich smoky flavor.

The kid's eyes begin to glow as you offer the other half to him, he grabs it and tastes the paste in pure delight, the protein will do good for his small and starved frame.
There are a few hours of daylight left, the electronics will soon shut off, barely enough time to fully use them. The last thing that you do is contact the automatic AI, you update your citizen mandated implant with software for language.

All you need to do now is listen to the local tongue, the chip will slowly record, once it is done the AI will process it and compare it to your language.

You watch as the kid finish slurping on the aluminum tube, it seems to be much satisfied and sleepy as it yawns

"%&**##%%%&&&, ###$#%^?"

A statement and a question is what you tell from the tone of his speech, he digs into its pockets and hands you a pile of dirt, it fits on your palm and it doesn't dismantle. Examining it closer, you realize that it is something solid covered by dirt.

You turn your gaze to the child, it is leaves for the airlock with a happy stride behind him, almost jumping in happiness. Food seems to be scarce on this planet, or at least around this area.

The child left to somewhere probably to its parents you assume, you shut the airlock tight with the valves mechanism and head to the bed,

Luckily the power lasts long enough to the life support system to warm the cabin until it shuts off.

You are tired from lifting panels and junk all day, you decide to rest on the bed capsule after you grab the cord connected to the pod's AI and plug it into your jumpsuit.
It doesn't take you long to fall asleep.

The morning comes, the cabin feels cozy, the temperature system is on and so is the power, most of the machines are recharging, you could try to use them now but it might reduce its life battery.

You take a moment to think about your options, you have power on the space transport, but it is fragile and you didn't even know if it is storing which makes you think that you don't even know what is the state pod. Electricity is going to be a priority, that child survives in this place, that means other people and they survive too.

Their experience defeats all your technological advantages, meaning that you need to make use of every last bit you got if you want to make it out alive until you can contact the station or the ship.

You proceed to shut off the electrical system, you pick up the toolkit and you continue to unscrew ad remove the floor to see the power distribution. You encounter a few wiring issues, mostly unplugged cables and broken parts that are easily fixed.

Most of the fixes are simple enough, it doesn't require any knowledge, you don't have skill for any sort of expensive repair so you consider it to be a blessing.
You continue to dig in, fixing stuff that you can, ignoring ones that you are not sure, the final process leads you to a red box with a black screen.

You press the button to turn it on, you get some details that you can't recognize, so understand that it is the main power cell of the cabin, the core seems to be stable but it is not producing any power nor is it storing it. You notice a few black marks and some melted plastic around the box.
Outside of the pod is were you notice most of the damage, the pod was indeed detached from the ship, but violently. Most of the connectors and cables were ripped off, they are either burnt or completely missing and they are still directing electricity so touching them or even getting near it could've killed you instantly.

You draw a few conclusions.

The journey started from Earth, from there two things could've happened, the ship either continued with the course and it reached the space station or the ship never arrived at the station.

The ship evacuated the pod, ignoring the safety mechanisms, causing an explosion or an overload. Damaging most of the electrical systems.

Your cabin crash-landed, the emergency alarms went off and you woke up.

Another theory is that the entire ship or the station itself that crashed, and your pod was dismantled as it entered orbit. If that is true then your pod it could be the only one to crash, scouting the area around or gathering information from the locals, could prove useful.

Regardless, you now have directed most of the power going nowhere into the cell, but you have no clue whether is it storing it or not.

You turn on the panels, nothing explodes making you breathe in relief.

Inside the panel you can see the fabricator now powered, the screen is user friendly, a lot of options and you can even design your own.
You are not really sure how to recharge or install new materials on the machine, you do know that the resources used are limited but it is fully stocked.

The options displayed are basic structures, pipes, bottles, cups, and even clothing or tools. There is even another mode that can be used too, involving substances such as glue, synthetic alcohol, gel, one option calls your attention synthetic paste.

This solves your food situation if you are careful with the replicator, it can process a paste that can keep you alive if you need it, since your rations are almost depleted.

You continue to explore the settings of the interface, there are a few documents explaining its use, the fabricator requires to be powered constantly as it builds, it is not possible to use any other resources as it is a very basic model used by passengers during emergencies.

Satisfied with the fabricator, you turn it off and go into the washroom.

The door slides into the wall, the room is impressible much smaller than the cabin. In it, you can see a simple washroom station. Nothing impressive from your standards, toilet with integrated AI and scanner, shower and sink all included in a single box. Water constantly being recycled and purified runs through the pipes.

The model is nothing compared to the one you have in your apartment, but it will fulfill your necessities for now.

>The fabricator has 100 nano charges, each item that you make costs 10 or less depending on the write-in or substance.

The airlock opens itself this time, now being powered and noticing your presence.

What you see in front of you is a group of men dressed in rags, tunics, and pieces of fur, their bears grow wild across their pale skin. The local from this area, they are broad-shouldered and their skin seems to be resistant to the cold air.

The child told them about you, or maybe they saw the crash landing as well.

They jump once the door opens, wielding clubs and sticks as weapons, they seem to be alert and on their guard as none of them tries to approach you.

"%$##&*#$##!" one of the points towards you waving his stick

"&&*##$%^##.. ###@!$" the oldest man turns to the one who yelled, he approaches you and presents his open palm, he hands you an aluminum tube, you recognize it. Is the one you gave to the kid.

You grab it and notice that it is cut open, you see that it is almost clean there are no leftovers from the paste inside.

Are they asking for more?

You go back inside the cabin, you grab the solid lump of dirt that the kid gave you and you pull another tube of protein paste, it only takes but a second and the older man grin, there's something on his lips that you didn't notice before. They are almost sucked into his mouth, the grin only confirms what you suspect.

"%%&^#$^"

He doesn't have teeth.

You offer the tube to the old man and then you present the lump of dirt to the others, you speak making them realize the language barrier in between. You wave around the lump of dirt, trying to make them understand that you want something in return for the paste.

"%$^*&*&&?"

"^&*&#$#&.. &^$&%?"

You notice the older man struggling to open the paste to which you, help him remove the cap, he happily slurps passing it around.

"&*((^%^?!"

"&^(&%##^%# ^%$^ ^&&**#"

The three men argue each other as they each have a taste of the paste, there's a look of surprise and then confusion, regardless you continue to press the lump of dirt to them.
One of them takes it and examines it, he removes pieces of dirt, revealing a much smaller object, they give you a more neutral face and he turns to the others.

"g%%$uj, &&&*$#@#"

"%^*(%##?"

"^% @a$% %^$%^&$%"

He smiles as he digs into to the hole in the front of his apron pulling several much smaller, this time they are covered by a light coat of dirt revealing to be much smaller than you thought.

"&(*(^%$" he points towards the forest "&(*(&%$%*&*((**&" he then proceeds to shove it in your hands while still talking.

The other men do not seem to be interested in the paste like the older man, you understand that these objects work as currency in this planet.
The one who filled your arms with the lumps of stones, tugs on your arm. Does he want you to follow or does he wants more of the paste?

You speak again, telling them to hold and wait, raising your hand.

You return to the cabin, leaving the strange lumps of dirt inside the cabin keeping one with you to use with the scanner, you shut the airlock with a voice command.
Which makes the locals even more confused, as they try to touch the now closed airlock but a quick glance from you makes them withdraw their hands quickly.
You follow the group moving through the forest and snow, you are surprised by the number of trees, you never saw this many out in the open other than the local gardens and recreational facilities. Which makes you wonder who planted them and for what reason.

The scanner probes the lump of dirt, carving a small hole, taking a piece inside its inner chamber. You play with the screen holding the portable scanner with both hands, the first scan reveals that this is not dirt or a rock. But a vegetable, one that is recognized by the database of the scan.
You are being linked to a new page containing more information, it is a root vegetable cataloged by the name of solanum tuberosum, it contains toxics compounds as well as a high amount of carbohydrates.

The pictures presented show dishes and other variations, you already consumed it before in way of fried fries, synthetic alcohol among other snacks. What makes it so attractive is the higher yields when cultivated and harvested.

The group mostly keeps it to themselves, making a few comments and what you assume are small conversations if you can ignore the few times you caught them looking at you using the scanner.
If it wasn't for the thick jumpsuit, you would freeze to death, in hours if not by minutes, your nose is very cold. Your entire face is starting to feel numb.

The journey stops upon a wooden barricade, tall logs shaved into sharp edges planted on the ground, upon passing you see the sorry state of the village.

Around the palisade of logs, there is a large ditch dug on the ground. You don't understand the reason why.

It sits on a hill, there is a large building on top, along with a watchtower rising fifty feet higher, the tallest object this side of the northern mountains. Below the hill beyond the fence barricade, you see many buildings, some have animals like horses and sheep being kept in stables. Among the structures that you don't really recognize, one, in particular, gets your attention.

You see a man putting scraps of metal in an oven until it turns yellow and red, there is a bigger block of gray material on the ground, the man appears to be sweating from the heat. Your first thought is that he seems to be attempting a very crude method of welding.

Through the settlement there are large open spaces of dirt, yellowish tall grass grows freely for an unknown reason, you see the locals that live in this place. They begin slowly approach as they see the group but stop dead on their tracks as they notice you wearing the outlandish jumpsuit.

The men dressed in fur lead you into a house out of rocks and roof made of grass, you waited outside spying on the half-open board they use as airlocks. The hot air inside it feels very comfortable on the cold skin of your face.
The shack is filled with very old people covered by sheets and coats of fur, they sleep quietly, the ones that are awake are given the protein paste tube. Weakly they take small sips as it is shared between the group.

You realize that they are not many men living here, other than older people and kids.

One of the men that lead you here taps you in your shoulder, you both continue to walk uphill into the large structure of cut gray stone.
>>
You take a sit on a chair made of wood, it is very solid and uncomfortable.

What impresses you the most is the inside of the building, stone squares piled together forming most of the walls and floor, the furniture finely carved from wood and the large pits of roaring fire distributing heat which you deeply appreciate.

Across the wooden table in the center of the room, there is the first man you've ever seen wearing something that isn't pieces of cloth and leather stitched together. He wears a tunic, green and brown next to him there is a woman wearing a long blue dress.

The man in particular slides a piece of paper, you grab it and notice it that is much thicker and rougher than paper, there are letters written that you don't recognize. You make a confused face and the man sighs.

"%%%$^ &$$^&%" he says

A door opens, behind you, a girl approaches, her dress is nothing compared to the woman sitting in front of you. She carries a large metal sheet with handles at each end, on top, there is a bowl with a hot liquid and the root vegetable that you scanned chopped in half.

The girl leaves the bowl and a spoon in front of you, the liquid has pieces of something that you are not really sure what it is. The smell is pleasant.

You assume that they want to feed you in exchange for the tube of paste.

The soup has no salt, it is very bland of flavor, the chunks are very hard and chewy. Your jaw begins to hurt after trying to bite into the vegetables and meat.

The taste of meat is very interesting, from what you come from, meat is something that is prepared in laboratories. It was said that in the past humanity turned to animals for food, then they became slaves whose only purpose of existence was to live, grow, die, and to be consumed.
These people are probably the same, they killed for this meat, you are not sure how to feel about this.

>how do you feel about this (optional)

Looking at the vegetable you can tell that it is somewhat cooked as the color on the inside is different but it is still very sturdy, it would be a struggle to bite into it.
The mature man wearing the tunic takes the paper and begins to draw with a piece of something black that you can't recognize. The drawing is simple, it is a rectangle.

You take a closer look at the drawing, you understand that he is trying to represent the tube of paste, he is clearly interested enough that he sent people to find you.
Then you realize the meaning behind the soup and the cooked vegetable, he wants to replace the food with paste. But is it for his own meals or is it to feed the old people that can't bite, like the ones you saw downhill.

It would make sense if he is looking to ease the hunger of the ones lacking teeth or muscle to chew on them, you feel embarrassed that your jaw still hurts from trying to tear the meat and vegetables.
In any case, you remember that you are not in modern times where one can reach an agreement over any matter, this a planet is stuck in the past, violence is not something unusual since they kill to feed themselves. One wrong move and you could be overwhelmed.

So far you've been approached peacefully, but is it from fear you wonder.

The man in tunic seems to be reasonable, he seems to be the one in charge of this place, you wonder who is the woman next to him. She seems younger than him by just a few years by the complexity of her face, she seems rather quiet fixated on your jumpsuit.
He walks around the table, he grabs the vegetable and the drawing, he left the drawing on his side and the vegetable on your side. He is offering you potatoes, as the scanner called it, in return of paste.

This troubles you since you don't really have a way of producing more paste unless you decide to learn how to prepare it using the scanning machine.

Regardless the man seems to be highly curious from you, he watched you very carefully as you ate the soup, from the moment you've arrived he hasn't taken his eyes off of you. You smile trying to let him know that you do understand what he is offering.

You are taken outside of the big building, large cloths hang next to the brown doors, they are red with the design of a white closed fist.
>>
They load you with a big sack of potatoes, you didn't really have a way of saying yes or no because of the language barrier.

Now you are back in the path to the space shuttle, the walls grow distance as you walk passing through a makeshift bridge. The sack is heavy to carry, you wonder how someone twice your age could lift and carry it with such vigor.

Back at the space pod, you think more on the next move, you will survive with the potatoes if you manage to cook them using the fabricator, your rations are very simple for emergencies packed with fat and proteins.

The initial scans on the "potatoes" briefly explained the process on how to grow more, it taught you that they can be planted in any terrain and they have a high yield per harvest.

You are also looked at the surrounding crash site, the ground that collapsed from the impact revealed a hard surface different from the cold dirt that is on this area.
Perhaps you could imitate the structures and buildings from that settlement, turn the broken trees and branches that were also cut down from the crash into something else.

>Week 1

Eager to set to work, you begin gathering small branches and logs, you pick a spot clear enough for a stockpile as you begin to move the ones that are large.

The work goes quickly but is tiring, you try to keep small shifts were you clear the area around your home, most of it is not usable since the landing crushed the wood into splinters. You decide to focus your efforts on using the small hatchet in the toolkit for cutting trees down.
As the weeks go by the delving progresses and the weather outside grows warmer and wetter, sometimes you even remove the jumpsuit, they are not really meant for long hours of work and movement.
From time to time, you swear spot wolves in the forest spying as you work, they mostly keep it to themselves as they move around. A few streams flow within a short walk from your cabin.

The small breaks that you take in between you focus on working the AI back to its normal condition, it can reply to very basic commands and perform a process that requires digital input. It's can't do much but that's expected it was never meant to be fully used by a passenger other than light control, weather, asking the time, searching music, or information.

You often have a few visitors from the settlement nearby, children sometimes accompanied by adults watching over them. You are beginning to understand more and more as each day passes, you update the AI regularly feeding it with the recording software of the neural chip.
The guests were very wary of you at first, they would stick nearby watching you work. Until a day, among them, you recognize the one that you gave the ration.

It seems surprised that you can now speak, but slowly begin to laugh at your strange accent, its name is Ary. You are still not sure if its a girl or a boy but you are happy to see it nonetheless.

The group of children wonders why do you need so much wood, you tell them that you wish to build like in the settlement were they live, at first, Ary theorizes that since you are making a castle then that means that you must be a lord from far away that came from the stars.
Others join in a discussion since they all saw the red star fall from the sky, they seem to be very entertained with the idea that you are a lord from the skies, the nickname you Star as in Lord Star.
You try to correct them telling them your name but its useless as they laugh and play with the branches and sticks.

It's hard to understand them, their language is full of different ways of pronouncing and several meanings behind each word, its gonna take you to dedicate on speaking but for now, you are able to maintain conversations.
They keep it to themselves playing without interrupting your work, you discovered that their new game is to imagine.

You are exhausted after so much work, it is not easy to chop logs with the small hatchet and then carry them to the designed stockpile. Clearly, your species have grown weak over the course of years.

You read the documentation of the fabricator as you try to jam potatoes in the resource container, which then they get stuck, you waste a few minutes if not hours trying to remove all the residue hoping you didn't damage the machine.
It would seem that the resources are emergency charges for specific things, broken down chemicals that can be rearranged into whatever the user needs at the moment.

It is not something that you can use, meaning that you are gonna have to recreate the paste manually.

You discover that the fabricator can instead work as a cooking utensil thanks to reading the user guide, so you place a potato inside of its chamber, you press the rights buttons consulting the guide for help every now and then.

What follows next is a series of noises as the fabricator begins its work, you hear a spraying noises that it's supposed to be a sterilizer agent that can clean anything for the user, then it begins to use heat the potato until you hear a beeping noise.

Opening the compartment reveals a now burst open potato completely cooked, the state is very bland but easy to eat.
Ary mentions that it is much better than the hard ones in the stew.

That solves your food problem but you consider that it is not going to be good for your digestive track to eat only potatoes. And you wouldn't enjoy it very much either, as it barely has any taste.

You decide to scout the forest in search of new food options or perhaps for something to make the potatoes taste better, you walk through the forest, inspecting the local flora.

flowers, herbs, and there is even a bush with small fruits growing next to a tree. This of course makes you go towards them but all of a sudden you feel a sharp pain on the back of your head, something flies close to your ear making you immediately slap it away.

You look above you and you can see a small nest sitting on one of the branches of the tree, it's largely surrounded by what you assume is dried mud with a hole carved in it, a black swarm begins to pour out rushing towards you at an alarming rate.

Startled by this, you begin to run deep into the forest, the buzzing noises freak you out as you feel the insects bump into your jumpsuit and head just to sting you blind with rage. You are driven to the edge of a river.

You think of jumping but fear that you might freeze to death, the stings are getting more and more hurtful as they begin to hit your skin, it feels warm and it's starting to get swollen, you need to do something.

>Jump into the water
>Don't
>>
>>4303016
>Jump into the water
Yeah bees was the worse possible outcome. Fuck bees
>>
>>4303028

You jump unto the river.

The water swallows you completely, at first you feel nothing, the jumpsuit does is job perfectly impeeding sudden temperature changes, it doesn't absorb any of the water since its exterior materials are almost plastic-like.
But that only lasts for so long as water begins to fill the inside of the jumpsuit, on the bright side the pain from the stings is gone, now replaced by a very refreshing feeling. As if the cold water had completely healed you.

The current is strong and vicious, it moves you ahead as you struggle wailing your arms trying to stay above the surface, the closest thing you ever been to fully submerged in water was when you installed the spa water module in the shower of your apartment.

It's hard but you slowly begin to sync the arms with your legs finally reaching the other side of the river almost dislocating your shoulder by throwing your arm.
You grab the dirt then your other arms grab the ground, you manage to pull yourself enough that you are not being pushed away anymore.

Now you are fully drenched, sitting on the edge of the river, resting your back against a boulder.
You exhale and inhale, the task was exhausting but you did it, you calm yourself and begin to be aware of the voices behind the rock.

From there, you peek your head above the boulder, dozen upon dozens of men standing tall, some holding with large sticks with pieces of fabric attached to the end, others with metal sheets attached to their arms all wearing the same breastplate accompanied by scarfs or robes resting on their shoulders. A much smaller one with short black hair stands in front, laughing pointing at you.

"Laddy, lookin' like a fish off the water" one of the men replicates your movements by wavering his arms, the rest of the group roars in laughter.

"What is that armor he is wearing? Never seen that 'fore.."

"Northerns are this much afraid of the water? Heh, gettin' a castle ain't gonna be so hard after all boys!"

"Alright! You all know the rules, first one is mine" says the man with shorter hair in front of the others "let's get this over with" removing an ax attached to his belt.

He walks towards you until a voice calls him

"Oi....Oi, yah sure Cap'in? This one looks like a noble.. fancy clothes.. cut hair.." a voice from the group says

Aye, this one is a noble alright" another follows.

"You fookers.. already trying to steal my price?" he says turning around

In an instant, you jump from where you are crouching just to begin to sprint away.

This is your first encounter with aggressive locals, this is starting to get serious if you continue to expose yourself like this...

Loud voices soon become distant as you get lost into to the woods, jumping and keeping your pace until your legs start to hurt, you look back but see no one. You slouch on the ground trying to catch your breath.

You are still drenched in water but at least you've managed to recognize the path back to home, the small bridge on the river is a good point of reference that you can use for when you explore the forest.

The path leads once you back home, where you encounter the place empty.

Inside the cabin you shut the airlock tight and then remove your jumpsuit, you've been using this for a while now, it's started to collect dirt, cuts, and scratches from all the work you've put collecting wood.
The suit is very heavy, you feel exhausted from all the running and swimming, but now how are you going to dry it? You could tinker with the heating system or maybe leave it outside and let the cold air do its job.

In anyhow, you take a warm shower to recuperate from the cold.

You've taken some time t to decide what to do next, that band of men seemed to be aggressive and could be anywhere by now, maybe even looking. Your location could become compromised.
Perhaps you should hide it, but the size could be an issue unless you start working on covering with dirt, snow, and leaves.. or maybe you should move the space capsule altogether.

Another solution would be bargaining with the settlement nearby.. that reminds you, those aggressive hostiles could be against anyone, even them, should you warn them? You would have to leave with your wet clothes and jumpsuit.

No, you need to warn these people, it would be wrong to leave them to die.

Whether because of future trading, the lives of the kids, or just for the sake of company, you wear the cold jumpsuit and leave the safety of the inner cabin. The cold strikes you ten times harshes, the jumpsuit is not doing you any favors, you start to consider going naked.

The trek doesn't take long, by the time you reach the fences you are shaking and exhausted, you are immediately greeted by the locals and children playing on the fields.

You greet them, many seem surprised at hearing you speak their tongue for the first time, instead of bombarding you with questions they take you by the shoulders dragging you to the stone building on top of the village.
Of course, you try to warn them but every time you try to wrestle away, you are surprised by the strength on the grip of old people.
Inside you speak to the man in the tunic, he smiles as both of you manage to have a proper discussion, but it is interrupted many times as you begin to sneeze again and again.

He points you into another room and tells a woman to escort you there.

The room is much medium-sized, you see a large bin made of metal, the woman tugs on your jumpsuit telling you to remove it. You try to argue but she begins to grab it as if she tried to rip it open.
In the end you end up naked inside of the metal bin, the larger woman pours hot water on your back and your head, in just but a few minutes you are much warmer sitting next to the fire pit on the larger room with the table.
You wear a large brown cloth that coves your chest and some pants of the same fabric.

"Ah you have some color in your cheeks" he older man smiles "I must say you are a strange man, wearing eve stranger clothes.. your accent is thick clearly not from around here. Regardless, I am Rickard Pinewood, castellan of the castle, you were saying something about men in black?"

"Yes, I got lost in the forest then I saw a huge group of men, they had axes and pieces of wood and metal on their arms.. I could barely understand them"
