>>4283160Continuing on from where we left off last thread, as the activity of the planet’s star is going back down, Gefjun is beginning to cool down. This is also causing the wind-speeds in the Cloud Layer to go decrease. Lowered wind-speeds and solar radiation is lying as the foundation of the tranquil period that life on Gefjun now sees. While many species have died out as a result of the great Sinky bloom that occurred 2 million years ago (due lack of Sinkyvores keeping the population in check), life has now begun to recover. The great blooms of Sinkies has mainly become limited to the Tropic of Storms, fueled by the abundance of electrical energy generated by the climate of the region. North of the Tropic of Storms, great Beard Floot islands, some the size of small continents, have begun forming. These act as a safe haven for all kinds of life in the upper cloud layer. Similarly, down in the stormy lower cloud layer, many organisms find refuge on and in GoldFloots, Hornuros and Zahuros. At the current point in time a couple of distinct habitats around which life congregates can be said to exist:The Haze Layer – Here the temperature is cool, though warmer than the uppermost parts of the upper cloud layer. The temperature climbs slowly with the elevation. It consists of hydrogen and trace amounts of water and ammonia. The Upper Cloud Layer – Rich in hydrogen, helium, methane, water and ammonia. Also contains trace amounts of metals. The visibility is high, but so are the wind-speeds. Size is important to survival, or sticking to someone else of size. Beard Floot Islands - Large, hydrogen-filled organisms mainly situated by warm updrafts. Please refer to the dossier. The Lower Cloud Layer - Similar chemical composition to upper cloud layer. However, here permanent electrically charged storms reign and the visibility is low due to the ammonia and water-based clouds. Both the temperature and pressure is keeps increasing the further down you go. Goldfloots – The organism’s sails offer shelter to many smaller species. Please refer to the dossier. Huro’s of the Lower Cloud Layer - Large carnivorous creatures, the organisms are hosts to several small, parasitic life-forms. Please refer to the dossier. The Gas Layer – No light reaches here. Both the temperature and pressure is high. The layer is made up of Gaseous Hydrogen and trace amounts of whatever falls down from the above. For now, only the non-organic Xiksu survive here. As such, the entire population was thought extinct by the 832 mil benchmark.However, a small but stable population seems to have weathered the storm. The Blimp Huro has increased gasbags along its entire spinal axis. These provide both a solid insulation from harsher temperature swings, as well as provide a better buoyancy for minimum effort or elevation. The Blimp Huro has made use of these advantages by migrating from the polar regions to the tropical regions, depending on the period of revolution Gefjun is at around its star. It preys largely on Floot species, both for flesh as well as gas.
>>4283165Another one of the species once thought extinct, the Daruro has managed to survive despite the great flourishing of the Zahuro and Hornuro. Though it has not survived unchanged. Now known as the Solenoid Daruro, it has evolved a much larger mouth with increased bands of metal, capable of pulling far more prey than before. Said prey still being the sinkies and xiksu for flesh and metal respectively. Along with this, its electro-sensory organ has grown more complex; it can now "see" better during periods of higher EM-interference, mainly to counteract the noise generated during suction.

Forming longer legs with an extra joint, as well as narrowing their tail, this species can navigate this new found "terrain" far more effectively than their deva prey.

This fluff in turn is used for lift and is where spores are generated in general. Though, I leave it up to the players to decide if the tail does play a part in reproduction for the Ropefly now that the Wings have been stated to also have this purpose.

As the Sinkies captured much of the organic material during this time, the Vegae family starved. The comparable lack of photosynthesizing organisms caused H20 not to be captured in the production of sugars. As a result, the humidity in the Storm Layer (Lower Cloud) has since then steadily increased and been resting over the former level of only trace amounts. This has given cause to a rampant disease among the Xiksu inhabiting the Storm Layer; Rust. When the circumstances are right, condensation forms on the Xiksu’s body. Given the Nano-machine’s electricity-needing nature, it doesn’t take long until it finds itself breaking into pieces, eventually becoming unable to levitate itself through electromagnetism.> Xiksu species who inhabit the storm layer begin dying off in droves. It’s up to the players to find solutions to this problem. All affected Xiksu and Xiksu dependant species are mildly endangered due to this event. Some can go extinct, depending on the outcome.

Here it evolved to spread along the bottom of the Beard Grass, entagling and securing itself. It feeds on microscopic vegae that get caught on top of the Floots as well as dead beard grass. After having spread out over the whole upper side of the floot, the Huragrowth sprouts a structure containing the spore-filled "fruits". Devas and other feed on this, eventually passing the spores along to other floots on the colony.
>>4283165The Colgae Stalk is a colgae that has evolved to entangle itself in beard grass on the sides and bottoms of floots. Once secured, the "main" leaf fuses with the grass it's attached to. Here it sticks out and photosynthesizes, reproducing by strong winds pulling pieces off.
The Raiwatsu is a raiksu which has constructed thin beams between the edges of its body to its base which draw water down to its most electrically charged body part: the lower spike. There, held together by surface tension, it carries the water which would potentially rust it in a drop held to its body only by electrical charge and water bonds
Living in direct proximity to one another, the Arksu find that change spreads faster if you put in the effort to spread it yourself - and by spread it yourself I mean put half your code in someone else's code. Thus, sexual reproduction is born, with Arksu exchanging code to get down with the latest upgrades and updates.
>>4283165The Rustik is a rapidly exploding mutant of the Xik species. This species has made ample use of the Rust to propagate itself. Rather than generating a single progeny in its center, the Rustik creates several minor progeny around its core once it makes its way into the cloud layer. There, special joints that are designed to be particularly weak to rust break first, releasing the cores with a few basic filaments to ensure they equalize back in the gas layer.This migratory spawning cycle leads to large clouds of Rustiks floating up form the gas layer to breed in the ample hunting grounds of electrical storms. Afterwords, the parents perish and let their young fall back to start the cycle anew.
>>4283165The Xiksu-Alloy finds its own way to counteract the rust plauging its other higher altitude cousins.Though the large amount of building material used in Xiksu reconstruction is iron in nature, trace other metals make their way down into the planets' metallosphere. The Xiksu-Spear already possessed a method of harvesting mercury to power its lanters, this mutant has also enabled the collection and processing of aluminum and other non-tarnishing metals.Others have had progress with harvesting trace amounts of carbon from their organic prey, and incorporating that into their largely-iron frames. This has created a far stronger and more resilient steel frame. More resilient to rust than before, but they still ultimately fall prey to the rust plague.

While it still simply falls through the air, it is now slightly more capable of catching updrafts with its increased surface area. This has also nessessitated the breaking points to be tougher, so the forces felt against different parts of the vine don't break it apart prematurely.The name stems from several instances of observation showcasing it spiralling through the air; whether this is classified as a majestic, gliding dance or an out-of-control tailspin is a source of much contention.

Out of the remnants of one era another was born. However, unlike all previous eras, this one would not find itself defined by the void and its celestial inhabitants. Instead, this Era would come to be shaped by the organisms who lived in it. In the cloud layers the last one million years, both the bio-mass and the amounts of elements readily available for those daring enough to take it, had steadily been climbing. In large part this had been made possible by the great increases in size that certain lines of Floots and Huros had seen. Hornuros and Zahuro’s roaming the skies not only preyed on life, but had also become habitats unto themselves, sprawling with tiny organisms. On a more major scale, the Goldfloots’ sails had created a refuge for life to flourish and develop. Here they were in large part kept safe from the constant storms outside, Raiwatsu-induced spawn-rain >>4286185 and the great gaping void below. Male Jeldevas >>4286204 could be found crawling around in the Goldfloot’s sails, gathering dead materials to form nests for spawning. Only to become food as a reward. Vampire Devas begrudingly shared this home with the large brutes; the small green creatures spending their time snipping off and feeding on the abundant Flootveg growing in the sails, and avoiding the gripping claws of the Umbstay >>4284445 piercing through the sail’s layers as they traversed their home. But perhaps the most key players in all of this was the inseparable team: the Bearded Floot and its symbiote, the Bearded Grass. The two organisms could be found gathered and clinging onto each other; forming great sky-masses the size of countries, and in some cases the size of continents - kilometers across - and visible from space as small green dots. It was here that life had begun to see its largest diversity yet. Colgae Stalks >>4286212 and Huragrowth >>4284755 clung to any surface that was available and feasted on they nutrients that were being made easily available. Among the beard grass panicking Hidevas scurried about as Pretadeva packs >>4286224 gave chase, all of them unknowingly doomed as the Scortho >>4286185 began to suck on the grass in front of it. Nearby Aituros where crawling around, absent-mindedly chewing on the grass around them. Far above them flocks of Diveuro’s - hundreds of them - watched at the pickings below; waiting for the right time to strike… Many of them only to be snubbed as some Scorthos commandeered Aituros and drove away. This was the beginning of a new era: The Jorth Era

The Cortho ( >>4283165 ) is a Scortho that has evolved a cartilage and muscle structure in its wings. It has lost the ability to fly, instead using its newly evolved leg-wings and blimp body to run from the attacks of Diveuros.The Jorth Whisp has evolved from the simple Vegae ( >>4283165 ) clumping on Flootarks ( >>4302758 ). It forms small, wispy, structures, creating more surface area for photosynthesis while still remaining under the protection of the Flootark’s cap-balloon. There is a problem though; the Jorth Whisps grow small blue and yellow buds at the end of their stalks. These buds contain a form of Cicutoxin, making them extremely poisonous to Floots and moderately so to the distantly related Huro family.

However, it leeches the minerals found in the water. These spots are individually sensitive to light, together merging to create a very low resolution image of the Hexafloot’s surroundings. The Dustae is an evolution of the original Vegae, ( >>4301354 ). Its dendrites have evolved to become longer and more numerous – creating a sort of fluff making it very easily stick not just to other Dustae, but also anything both large and small. Steadily Dustae builds up on the creatures it gets stuck on. Sinkies,, such as the ropeflies >>4284216 >>4284124 find their fluff being clogged up with the stuff, preventing the release of spores and weighting them down. Similarly, Huros, Floots and flying Deva ( >>4301357 ) species find themselves weighted down by the stuff unless they’re capable of removing it. Finally, there’s the Bearded Flootline. An offshoot of the common Bearded Floot; 50% of Bearded Flootline lacks a stem, instead storing the organs that it held inside of its balloon-like body. The Flootlines lacking stems instead have a hole surrounding by powerful muscles. When young, the stemless Flootline attaches itself to a stemmed mature up-side-down Flootline. This allows for a closer connection between two Floots as well as a more easy interchange of genetic material.
