Great amounts of research have gone into the matter of Eterani, our star. The mystery has only now been half-solved. The very specific spectral flux density of Eterani is quite out of the norm for stars of its class. It's not just that, however, but many other properties of the star that are out of the ordinary - at least relative to our knowledge of astrophysics. It has taken a comparison of readings from across the last 99 years for us to finally be able to reach some sort of conclusion. In plain language, it would read as follows: Eterani is a star that contains a relatively large amount of rare elements besides helium and hydrogen, xenon being one of particular note. Its high magnetic susceptibility might bear relevance in conjunction with the wavelength and frequency of the star's radiance - it would seem that there is an also an unknown factor that is greatly influenced by light diffusion, which would relate to why an Earthlike atmosphere prevents the crystalization of plant matter, itself an anomalic kind of photosynthesis that allows, given time, for crystals to build up on the surface of a plant, essentially "Hijacking" the process of photosynthesis itself and storing up the star's energy until a breaking point is reached - a most unusual phenomenon and one that, by all accounts, is "unnatural". This star has very likely been tampered with in some sense and the time in which this happened can be dated to around 4200 years ago, which coincides with the approximate age of the fossils on Selestine and the carbon dating on deeper ice on Icebox.
The Eterani crystal phenomenon is one that appears nearly self-defeating. For these crystals to be created it requires a biosphere - which we can now safely theorize existed on Icebox at some past point - to allow them to "Grow", yet their growth will also inevitably lead to their "Death". There is, however, a notable difference between "Old" and "New" crystals - the crystals on Icebox all appear to be "Ready to burst", requiring only about two seconds of continued exposure to direct radiance from Eterani to reach their pulse point. Experimentally-created new crystals, on the other hand, have a cycle that lasts for hours from the first exposure of a plant to unfiltered irradiance to the pulse. After trial and error, we have been able to practically replicate the conditions on Icebox and create copies of those genuine crystals, requiring a small timer to burst - and with the knowledge of this production, "Custom crystals" could also be made.
The big question that remains is "How do we replicate the conditions of Eterani?". After all, the crystal pulse has not been achieved in any other star system, rendering our practical usage of this rare resource limited to our core system. Scientists are working on ways to solve this, though what we may need exactly is uncertain, there appear to be specific conditions that must be triggered. Perhaps, some ask, we must find out who tampered with the star - and why?

SPACE NEWS:
The spring offensives on Asgard finally led to a decisive breakthrough. The enemy, exhausted from half a year of ground warfare and orbital bombardment, could not hold the capital's perimeter and across May and June the fighting moved into the city itself. By mid-July flags of the united forces were waving over major government centers, but fighting continued on into August over the surface areas. By September, civilian resistance has been reduced to almost minimal. The defenders of the planet have been pushed back to their underground security network, which appears to be vast indeed - but even with all their bunkers and hidden fortresses, it is now a matter of months until they run out of food, ammo, bodies or willpower.

With a new Constitution accepted on the 10th of October, 2249, a nation is born anew from the ashes. Uniting all territories from the Panama Canal to the Northwest Passage is a country proudly calling itself Columbia. Its capital is Columbus City in the state of Ohio. It is a highly decentralized federation of states, most of which are essentially the territories of and surrounding the cities that survived the American war. Much of the nation's lands are sparsely populated and essentially turned into nature reserves, with young forests growing where atomic craters once scarred the land. Indeed, it is in many ways a union of city-states that have settled the disputes over the now-recovering wastelands. The hope of the new Founding Fathers is to set an example for all mankind with their model of a democratic, decentralized nation based around city-states and a well managed ecology. Columbia has quickly reestablished contact with the extrasolar colonies in New Cascadia, which in turn have been granted fully equal statehood, no longer showing any legal discrimination between the homelands on Earth and the settled worlds in outer space.

A warmth in relationships has ensued between the Americas. The military dictatorship in Bolivaria has lost power and democracy has been restored to South America, whose devastated armies have long since withdrawn from the vast swathes of land they once tried to conquer. There were even some talks of a union between North and South, yet those fell through - the scars of the war and the animosity between the peoples on either side of the Channel have yet to fully heal.

This wave of good relations is not limited to Earth's western hemisphere, however - what did not happen in the Americas has seen fruition in the Old World. Eurasia has been formed as a supranational entity that envisions an ever-growing closeness and unity between its member-states. It too has adapted a broad, confederate model of governance. It seeks to establish common defense and extrasolar exploitation approaches for its members, with a growing agreement that the Old World no longer has enough resources in it to justify fighting over them - rather, united efforts to claim the vast, untapped wealth of outer space will see all prosper.


In light of such sentiments spreading through Earth, our own proposal of the establishment of another transnational organisation is actually receiving a certain amount of approval and sympathy - movements to that end have been seen elsewhere, yet you are the first to put it out as an official proposal. Preliminary talks begin in November of 2249, whilst December, over a year after the invasion began, General Sun Tsiang of the Asian League has declared victory on Asgard. Sketchy details in relation to the last months of fighting persist among some corners, yet Reichsmarshall Gustav Emlitzer offering the surrender of his remaining forces seems to confirm it.
Now comes a time for peace talks, among other discussions.

The Black Sun Reich is defeated. Its political leaders are dead or missing and the few soldiers and officers left alive have surrendered. United Front forces occupy the Valhalla system, while captured maps indicate the presence of several lesser outposts a further distance away relative to Earth, still not under our control - yet in practice incapable of putting up any true resistance. The Reichsmarshall's orders have been sent to all forces of the Reich, including those in these outlying stations.
This final victory is met with both enthusiasm and a great sigh of relief among most civilians across human space. This series of wars is at last over, it would seem - yet what will be done in the aftermath?

It is clear that a peace conference must be held. Diplomats are currently discussing a location. Selestine has been mentioned - and not just by our own diplomats - yet there are also talks of Mars, Delta Pavonis, Luna and Earth itself. Eventually, the camps that are formed seem to show only three possible sites - Selestine, Mars and Luna.
The Pavonid Union supports the candidacy of Selestine. The ICS, naturally, supports Mars as a site for the conference. Corporate lobbyists largely support Luna, while Earthen diplomats are split or undecided.

What should we do on this diplomatic front?

It took some financing yet with a few friends within the ICS, some family relations with american representatives and generosity shown to Asian dignitaries. A conference in March of 2250 is scheduled to take place on Selestine.

How will you prepare for this event?It's quite useful for this matter that the Vowgate connects Sol and Eterani, yet there's more to a diplomatic conference than just the tickets for the flight. How will you be receiving the various state guests on one hand and what will the EFS be trying to accomplish through this event - give some proposals on your general "Game plan"? We might have overestimated our capabilities somewhat. It's not that we don't have anywhere to put all these people - well, we didn't and now we do, but it still looks like a large assembled prefab with some extra paint on it. The welcoming committee, made up of all the ministers, managed not to scare any of the guests away - but trying to talk over each other or racing to get the best picture of a handshake may have also not made the best impression. The festivities also had a few interruptions that weren't really supposed to happen - the futureball players not only started fighting each other on the field, rowdy fans also broke out into fights that spilled out onto city streets. A spike in petty crime was noted across the planet, including thefts from on diplomat and the kidnapping of another, resolved eventually, but not without bloodshed.

Needless to say, the impression made on the leadership of the other human nations was rather poor. This does make most of the diplomats eager to get the conference on and over with.

The first major item on the day's agenda is dealing with the Black Sun Reich's territories. Mostly, it's a dispute over the big prize - the Valhalla system and the Class V world of Asgard. European and Asian diplomats propose that a program of concentrated migration be aimed towards the settling of people from Earth onto that world to allow for a new, free society to be established and eventually decide their political fate on their own.
The ICS, rather brashly, insists they be given control over the system, citing the losses they've had to suffer, chiefly the first colonies in the Vinnitsa system all being wiped out by the Reich.
Someone from Delta Pavonis did also mention the wish of the natives to be allowed to self-govern in peace, saying that they would poorly take a forced integration into human society that has become nearly alien to their way of life. Most seem to ignore this idea.

The carving up of the bulk of the Reich's territories is another issue. Certain corporations are willing to pay a good deal to gain the rights to the resources available in the many outpost systems in that sector of space. Besides Asgard, the only real colony with a permanent population is in the Eisenherz system, on a Class III world.

What will the EFS stance on territorial distribution and governance be? Will you try to link this to some other proposal you may have or will you tackle this separately?

Personally I agree with the representative from Delta Pavonis. Valhalla will be left in peace. We'll sign treaties and agreements to ensure that they cannot militarily rebuild. Their defense will be left to the UEN as a whole, should they ever need to be defended. How isolationist or open to the rest of the galaxy they want to be should ultimately be left up to them, but I disagree with the notion of forced integration, it'll only cause problems for all parties down the line. I disagree even more with any singular nation taking sole control over the system. We are liberators, not conquerors.

The matter of Asgard is a difficult one as giving authority over an entire planet is quite a boon. In order to avoid favoring one nation or sidelining another perhaps we could split the authority over the former Reich capital of Asgard and colony in the Eisenherz system.

A division of the Black Suns is reached after several days of discussion. Algol and a few unpopulated surrounding systems will be given to the EFS. The ICS will have Eisenherz, while a larger swathe of outpost worlds will be taken by Eurasia.
The people of Valhalla will be given autonomy, though under some military supervision from what we've all agreed to call "Liberating forces". To that end, permanent military bases in the system will be established - one in space and one on the ground, not large enough to truly occupy the world, but primarily to serve as a base for monitoring.

The other major matter is now at hand - the establishment of an international diplomatic organization.

The proposal seems to gain some interest - however, there are some issues.

A common front against external threats is fairly well received in theory. The United Front that existed so far has proven to be at least somewhat capable of winning a war, though this is mostly a consensus held by the diplomats because no one wants to admit to the faults it had and how much effort had to go into defeating a nation with a population of under four million.
For one, the matter of partitioning votes and determining who exactly is a major power. The change in the political system of many Earthen nations makes it all confusing to say the least. Earth is already on two layers of federalization across almost all of its nations and this would add a third.
Another issue is the fact that there is a tacit understanding among the others that the EFS is not truly a Major Power - at present the true major powers are Eurasia and the ICS, with the americans trying to reclaim their space on that table too.
The Vowgate proposal does see a fair bit of enthusiasm, on the other hand.
The idea of a monetary fund sees what could at best be described as "Mixed feelings". The ICS seems to be the only force standing in favor of a more unified policy on the matter.
The idea of a health organization is also supported by the ICS. Seeing this, the others seem to be mostly fine with it as well.

There is a general feel of war exhaustion among people and the idea for an entity that can arbitrate disputes sees some positive outlooks, but it gets a bit more complicated once you ask "Would this arbitrage hold binding legal power?". The logical followup, the question that killed the old UN, was "How would one enforce the power of such an organization's decisions?".

The first day of these talks is over for now and the diplomats now disperse to make small talk and engage in individual negotiations in more closed rooms.

On the day after, our reading of the situation seems as follows:

1.Common front against external threats - Approval among most
2.Security council - the idea is supported by the ICS and Eurasia, but they only consider themselves to be Major Powers and are now in talks with the north and south American reps. The extrasolar nations are not considered equal to the Earthlings.
3.Mediation commission - Pavonids support and there seems to be modest enthusiasm among the Earthen representatives, but the ICS is highly skeptical.
4.Monetary fund - only the ICS and Bolivaria are in real favor of it right now
5.Health organization - no consensus on how expansive it would be, but most agree that it's "A nice idea"
Now comes the hard part, the politicking - those among you with experience have seen it play out on a local level, but this is something that can decide the future of over ten billion humans, so needless to say the stakes are a tad higher than New Perth school budgets.

To try and settle some of these issues I have some other proposals.

Gridlocked discussions eventually only lead to the agreement to maintain open dialogue for more future cooperation, with an initial common ground in an agreement to unite if faced with external threats once more and to establish an international Health organization as something all sides can agree may be useful. Mankind might not be ready for much more than this yet, especially with the ongoing political changes already confusing many billions of people.

Whatever the case, one thing for now is clear - the war is over and peace is upon us. The 40s are at an end and you can now post and roll for projects that your faction and characters have been pursuing in this past decade.

FP: At our remote research colony, we'll begin performing work to improve the efficiency and precision of our artificial gravity technology. Previously, we were working with what amounted to jury rigged FTL drives. It is our hope that by constructing a dedicated Artificial Gravity drive, we'll be able to overcome several of the shortcomings we've encountered thus far. Our designs will of course stil be based upon existing FTL drive technology, especially with the fuel efficiency improvements we made several years ago.

R&D Ministry Project: The undertaking we're about to undertake is massive. Matter is converted to energy all the time, and likewise, energy can be converted into matter, though the amount of energy required is massive. What we're going to strive to do is control the form this matter takes. We plan to hook up several antimatter reactors together on a prefab in the Outer Asteroid Belt to generate the massive amount of energy we'll need to pull this off. We'll then design and construct a massive photonic supercollider, designed to smash photons. We can then, theoretically, crack the photons into electrons and positrons. Doing so would create matter, in the form of electrons. If we can successfully do so, then we've already made a major breakthrough that we can develop upon later.

Fp Stealth Suit "Spectre"
The Deston Group has decided to work on a stealth suit for the ESIA fireteams. The Spectre is provided with specialized parts for spying, infiltration and so on. It's mostly made with light polymers and metal fibers (grants a good combat/hazard protection) and it has a light exoskeleton that enhances speed/agility.

An Orbital Shipyard.
The Shipyard will be situated over the increasingly Industrial planet of Dagda, helping the ship and Dockayrd already there. Being in orbit, the station will be able to construct and maintain ships without that pesky atmosphere getting in the way, also having a control tower, and crew facilities in essence making it another orbital station like our old relay towers, though quite a bit larger. The Assembly line production that Gallagher-Volk employs shall be found in full force as larger ships are able to be built and sent out at record speeds!
It is an ambitious undertaking, but the company is sure that if it is done correctly, the future potential is huge. The board has managed to fend Union off from this project thankfully, with a small concession to him coming in the form of 'entertainment' on board, including a fast food chain called "Bio Burgers" and a bowling alley, where it has been reported he chased and beat one of the Board members to unconsciousness with a pin!

The Tower is to serve as the Companies base in the largest settlement on Selestine, with Union reserving the Penthouse for himself. The Union Tower will certainly be the largest structure seen on Selestine to date, a monument to Unions ego and sense of fashion.

The last years have given us countless opportunities to test the Freedombots in battle and throughout all these engagements we have collected data on how we can improve our product and help to keep Eterani free. Our battle data has clearly shown two things, firstly we lack anti armor capabilities outside the heavy bots and more importantly we pretty much always come in hot. Taking this into account the Mk2 has two primary new features, apart from a general update of all it's parts, to account for the technological progress since it was first developed, the first is the addition of smart missiles to be deployed from the light units back. In combat the bot will deploy these missiles straight upwards and the weapons internal processor will then aquire the target, interlinking with all nearby friendly units and launch itself downward into enemy armor. A narrow penetrating lance of plasma will be emitted by the ordinance upon explosion, achieving maximum penetration, but being relatively harmless when detonated by enemy fie before launch, they can also detonate upon a units destruction to prevent reverse engineering and damage hostiles moving in. The second new feature is the deployment shield, these cheap metal cassings equipped with reverse thrusters, can be attached to both heavy and light units to safely launch them from low orbit or into a space station. The main purpose is to lightning deploy mechanical units into enemy ranks, in a not easily interceptable manner, as hundreds of units would be incoming spread out and at once. Once landed they would interlink and engage enemies preventing a safe deployment of regular forces, securing a beach head.

The Relaxo Dome project comes under a certain amount of scrutiny by members of the legislature critical of the expenditure of funds going into the project. Selestine Security Services (SSS)

With the war against the Reich raging on throughout the 2240s, the SSS have continued in their attempts to develop more powerful weaponry for ground troops in case of future conflicts. For this, they have decided to engage into renewed attempts to bring laser technology to small arms. Machine guns both heavy and light, sniper rifles, grenades... Any sort of application possible for infantryman use.

They will ensure that the weapon is as efficient as possible by studying all ground operations carried on at Valhalla and other planets held by the nazis, seeing how the CLR-19 is used and how future weapons should be developed with this knowledge taken in.

With these close ties, the SSS will do its best to ensure that they also share their studies and knowledge of the ground operations in the space war's ground battles and other conflicts they may be participating in. Knowing what experienced soldiers and officers want for their troops with the new weapons being developed is the most important element.

Alexei Chernov will publish another book titled 'Fall and Rebirth of Humanity', this time he speaks of the atrocious war that has struck humanity once more. The nuclear war in America and its grim aftermath the space war against the Nazi remnants and the thousands of lives lost... He speaks of the horrors that the people faced during these tough times, and how humanity nonetheless rose up once more inbetween the ashes. The rodeo's first run, back in '49, went all right. It had people from mostly within the nation, but also Eartheners, Martians and some Pavonians. Getting televized did bring some allure to the idea for a second, larger run and attracted sponsors. It was planned for '51, but logistical and climate issues delayed it for next year - this time with confirmation from alien representatives that they would also attend!
It was the 20th of October, 2252 and the Galactic Rodeo was doing quite well, now in its third day. People from across human space had come eagerly, alongside several alien representatives. From the Federation came Mopalan, Zian, Prnusk and Jzoan guests, but tensions would get heated with Raktun visitors from the Stareater Empire also being present. One of the Raktun visitors, supposedly being insulted by a rather drunk gentleman in a cowboy gettup, would go on to defend his honor with a gun, killing the human. Nearby cowboys replied by pulling out replica revolvers and gunning the alien down, which in turn prompted others of his race to take up arms, quickly fleeing to their ship.From it they would launch multiple laser beam attacks upon the festival, destroying property, killing nearly a dozen visitors - including two from the Federation - and injuring thrice as many. Before the planetary defense forces could adequately react to turn the Turtle nexus on that ship, it sped away. Several missiles aimed at it were shot down by point defense, laser strikes were deflected by an energy shield, but it is reported that one kinetic strike may have damaged it, though it did not manage to destroy the vessel. Fighters in pursuit couldn't quite catch up to it as it accelerated at hyper-dangerous speeds before leaving the system.
Suffice to say, the mood at the 2252 Galactic Rodeo was soiled and the aliens from the Federation may have been left with poor impressions, while fear of further alien retaliation is starting to spread not just through Nigel's World, but also the rest of the Extrasolar Free State - and slowly, all human space, as the danger of a single alien ship has been displayed.

A member of the Zian species, snakelike to the human eye, joined in the public broadcast. Nova Bogota, having declared itself an independent republic, has joined our alliance. No new raids have come upon it recently.


The derelict Algol base has been occupied by a small taskforce sent by the Fleet Admiral, its numbers in the fleet to be replaced by newly commissioned vessels.
While the blueprint for Vow Scouting Ships has been completed, the diversion of free capital into the terraformation project has put the completion of the first two scout ships on the queue. Government spending is putting a heavy strain on the budget.

Now, The Holoforum - a great new age form of entertainment, similar media has been around for years elsewhere, particularly being peddled by the Amazion megacorp, but you are now having your own native models of this tech and products based on it being developed, certainly capable of helping people take the edge off and of course making some profit.
The minor fleet expansion is complete now as well, while terraformation in Dagda and New Perth is practically finished, with the final touches of landscaping being done and what's left being the matter of allowing plant and animal life to grow naturally now.
