Eons ago, an eldritch being whose true name was lost to time, now only whispered of as The Devourer was chained in Earth's core by a nameless hero. The world lived on, unaware of the horror trapped under their feet. It was only once in countless years that the chain's strength waned and the creature could remind the mortals of its power. It did so by granting a fraction of its power to a living being.
A time like this has come now. Truly, the decisions of the Eternals are impenetrable by the feeble mortal minds, because The Devourer did not choose a monster of great strength, intelligence or cunning to endow with its power. Instead, it has chosen a lowly:

A lowly slime! As everyone knows, slimes are often an adventurer's first adversary. Although they are mostly resistant to physical attacks and have strong regenerative capabilities, they aren't quick nor particularly strong and every type of slime is weak to a particular element. For example, a green slime will melt away when exposed to fire and it won't be able to regenerate anymore, making it easy prey for every rookie with a torch.
The slime blessed with power is a:
>Green Slime: Highest regenerative power, weak to flames
>Red Slime: Highest speed, weak to cold
>Purple Slime: Highest attack, weak to holy damage
>>

>Green Slime: Highest regenerative power, weak to flames
>>
>>4273341
> Grey Slime: Lowest overall stats, weak to everything
Because if we're gonna be a slime, let's make it even harder

The blessed slime was a Grey Slime, no less. The Grey Slime is the most primitive form of slime, and also the weakest one - the only reason this species is still extant is that they live in caves that offer no reward to adventurers.
This particular slime was wandering around the cavern looking for moss to devour when suddenly a red light emanated from the slime's body - of course, it could not see it as it had no eyes, but it felt the temperature of its body rise.

"ą̶̝͈̫̩́͑̓͘ä̵̪́̀̈́͑͝͠h̴̰͋̒ ̸̢̢̰̤̋͆̍̃͛͝ͅȁ̸̻̒y̶͓͂̀ț̷̨̟̫̣̈́̒è̸̻̗̓͗ṭ̵̣̦͖͍́͒͗͝ ̸͖̰̠͇͘ǫ̴͓̽̀̿̀̀̇͜s̵͔̊̽̉a̷̢̝̯̔͝i̸͔̯̒t̵̹͕́̀͘ṅ̶͖̟̹̽̽͝e̶͇̮̿ẖ̸̼̻̫͐͑̊̎ḁ̵͂́͑͋ḛ̸̠͎̝̯͊̒̾̄͑͠ ̴͔̫̤̆m̸͍͑ą̸̞̝̪͔̎͂̿̂̚e̸̺̠͐̈̐̔̐d̶̺̬̘̄́ ̸̧̛̺͎͇̔͜n̵̩͕̱͋̈́̈́̆͗̃l̴͍͙͇͕̜̄́o̸̞͙̱̾́̏̿̀ň̵͓͔̼͇͔͂͜a̴̛̯̕͝ ̶̧͉̂͂͋̍̀͊ͅo̵̫̖̭̥͑̏̓͜͠l̶̠͍̘̖̯͆̑̀̉̆̈́e̶̜̠͙̓̎̂ĭ̴̔̎ȇ̸̢̪͓̯͙ ̸̧̺̼̦̹͠r̷̭͉͎̜̋̂́̆͘r̸̫̣̀s̷̡̮̫̼̮̭̓͂̓͆̈́̚e̵̪̙̣̖̱̙͐̆͂t̷͈͓̰̔̐̾̔̕ ̸͚̜̜̏͝e̷̳͍͂̚̚ȧ̷͚̞̯̀̆͘n̴̪̄̿͛̈́̆̚ê̷̼͖͈̥̄͝ÿ̴͉͎̝́ö̸̡͙̝̖̝̯̂͑̿̒͑"

An ancient voice called out inside the Slime's head. It was a shock - that was the first time the slime had ever heard anything. The language was an ancient and corrupt one, but somehow the message was understood.

It ordered the Slime to grow stronger and to do that it must devour.

The slime dissolved a tuffet of moss it was sitting on and heard another voice. This one sounded robotic and exclaimed.

[New skill: Bioluminescence acquired]

Hearing wasn't the only sense the slime gained. It could now feel the lifeforce around it - it allowed the slime to identify living beings even through walls. There are many small beings moving further down the cavern. They seem to be fish, judging by the way they move. There also seems to be a lot of moss on the cavern's ceiling.

The slime decided to eat the moss first.
It had a hard time reaching it, the walls were too steep for it to climb them and the ceiling was too high for it to reach it by jumping. After a while of wandering around, it found a boulder to climb and from there it hurled little pieces of itself at the moss. The moss would dissolve and the slime would fall to the ground. Our Slime would then pick it up and repeat it until the ceiling was clean.

The feast made the slime tired, and so it dozed off to sleep full and happy.

The slime was woken up by a sudden shift in lifeforce. Somewhere near the cave's entrance, a group of five or six entities was moving. Judging by how smaller life forces were extinguished one after another, they were hunting, and they were going inwards...

DC was 12, it's honestly impressive how bad these rolls were.

The slime's instincts were telling it to run, but a new sensation was stopping it. It felt strange and the slime didn't quite understand it, but it knew it had to devour something.
Even in it's small mind it knew that the group that entered the cavern was too strong to beat, but the slime had a flash of genius. It will wait for them to kill something and then eat whatever they leave behind!
It was truly a viable strategy. The Slime began it's journey and as it came closer, the intruder's shapes became clearer. They all stood upright, were short and their heads were big and bald. If the Slime had eyes, it would see their green skin, crude weapons and tribal tattoos, and that they were staring at it. Had it had ears, it would've known that the reason they were staring was the noises it made during its "stealthy" approach. The wet clapping and slurping reverberated thorough the cave.

"Gupi schlos, wara!"

One of them called out and swiped at the slime with a club. Gellatinous matter splashed the walls and floor and the Slime found itself slowly fading out of consciousness. The goblin shoveled up a handful of the goo into his mouth, then spat and rubbed his tongue against the wall, much to the amusement of his companions. The Slime used this commotion to back away into a nearby crack and there it lost consciousness.
When it woke up, the goblins were still there. They had set up camp nearby and we're blocking the exit of the cave. The slime felt three more entities craddled together deeper inside the cavern.

The Slime sat unmoving, waiting for the Goblins to leave. In the meantime, it used its newly acquired ability to search for nutrition. It made roots grow deeper and deeper inside the crack it hid in, filling the narrow spaces in search of food. The roots grew fast if you were to look at them as a plant, but for a monster they were painstakingly slow. The Slime Had started to dehydrate and the Goblins brought another living being into the cage before they reached water. In time, they reached a metal ore and thanks to the slime's corruptive abilities they were able to dissolve it and deliver it to the slime.

[New ability: Copper manipulation gained]

The Slime now has about half a kilogram of copper diluted inside itself and it's health rose up by one point, making it 4.
The Goblins always kept at least one of them as a guard, but this time something changed. They all quickly grabbed their weapons and ran out, leaving the camp unattended. After they didn't return for a while, the Slime broke off the roots and went to scavenge. First, it tried to eat the fragments of its body, but it had dried by now and was good for nothing.
The Slime doesn't feel any presence outside the cave, on the other hand there is a fleeting life force coming from a chest in the camp, and the locked entities have become more lively.

A 91 for what's inside the chest and a 64 for successfully devouring it(DC was 50).

The thing inside the chest seems to be the safer option. The slime tried to open the chest, but it's locked. That would stop a looting adventurer, but it won't stop a slime - It slid inside through a crack near the bottom.
Up so close, there were no doubts about the contents of the chest. it was filled to the brim with prey the goblins hunted for themselves. It wasn't preserved in any way, goblins are a savage race with stomachs like steel vats, a little rotten meat won't even give them indigestion. That's one thing where the Slime and they were similar.
The fleeting lifeforce was a bird who must've survived the goblin's attack, but found itself knocked out and transported here. It was scared and confused, left to die on a pile of its brethren's corpses. When the liquid slime started filling the crate the bird went crazy trying to defend itself, flapping its wings and slashing with sharp talons, but to no avail - Even if the slime wasn't particularly strong, it was undefeated in such a small place - the bird simply suffocated.
The corpses dissolved quickly, and because of their numbers The Slime got a good portion of their abilities.

The Slime wanted to test out its new skills. It decided to use the "Vocalization" one.

The Slime realized that now was his chance to get away from the cave. Oh great world, here he comes!
He morphed into a chicken and waited for the perfect moment, and when the things were passing by the chest he let out a desperate "Bok bok" and flailed around.

"There's a chicken locked in that chest!" A childish female voice said quietly "We need to help it."

"We can't! If we waste any more time, the goblins might come back." Another female voice replied.

The slime made even more noise.

"P-please! They captured it, too!" The child was on the verge of tears.

The Slime sensed one of the women hug the little one.

"It's alright. We'll take it along with us."

The woman kneeled in front of the chest and the lock started glowing, then the chest opened.
her face radiated beauty even if her cheeks were collapsed and her hair thinned from malnutrition. The goblins must've only fed them enough to keep them alive. They were also all naked.

Now's the time to make sure they take The Slime along...

Pop!

"It can't be... Yanna, come here." The woman was struck with shock. "The chicken just lay this egg. Could this be...?"

Another woman, this one taller and older than the first one picked the egg up.

"I'm not knowledgeable in metals, but it seems so. This must be the Hen that lays golden eggs that the prophecy talked about."

"But that would mean-" The younger woman was silenced with a gesture.

"I know what it means The moon when the hen lays gold, the lion will triumph. We must take it with us."

The younger woman picked The Slime, or rather The Hen and they all walked out of the cave. The Slime doesn't know what those soft things on the woman's chest are, but they feel nice when she's holding it close like that.

* * *

The goblins were nowhere to be found, and the women marched the entire day. The Slime was shocked by all the life he could see with [Sense Lifeforce]. For a peaceful cave dweller, it was almost too much, and so it was glad when they set up camp. It was nothing remarkable, really - the women collected giant leaves and leaned them against the tree they fell from. This new form allowed the Slime to sleep. It was a nice experience, to doze off like that, but suddenly it was woken up by the feeling of approaching doom. Its skill sensed something strong, unbelievably stronger than the goblins, and that something was approaching fast. The Slime looked around, but the women were blissfully unaware and were all fast asleep save for one warden. What should he do? Does he escape? Does he try to warn the girls?

The girls were merely a means to get away from the goblins and now that that threat is gone, there's no reason to endanger oneself for their sake. The Slime reverted back to its base form and seeped into the damp soil.
The Slime's instincts were screaming danger, how could the women not realize that demise was approaching? Their primordial senses must've been dulled by their higher intellect. A fine trade in general, it's fatal in this situation/

The woman taking guard doesn't realize it when an enormous creature makes its way to their camp. Despite its size, it makes no noise and its ethereal footsteps don't seem to break a twig. At first glance, one could think it's a moose, but the way it moved gave away it's true nature. It moved in a strangely humanoid way and with an irregular stride.

The Slime felt the creature slide its hand inside the tent all the while the guard was looking away. It's pulling something, it's a hand... no, a leg, it looks like it belongs to...

"Stop! Show yourself!"

The creature stopped. The woman took on a fighting stance and went to see who the intruder was. The thing let go of the leg and took a step backward when the woman came within an arms reach of it.

"What are you doing little buddy? You scared me there. Go away, don't wake up the girls."

The woman was talking to a fox that happened to be passing by a nearby bush. She yawned and returned to her spot.

The kidnapping resumed. Judging from the dimensions, the person dragged out of the tent was the little girl. Her snores echoed through the forest while the thing slowly but surely sculpted a copy of her from the mud. It carved a symbol on the copy's forehead and it came to life. It was indistinguishable from the real thing, and it too snored like a warthog. You'd think that an extra snore appearing out of nowhere would alert the guard, but it didn't - matter of fact, a third snore joined the cacophony. The woman had fallen asleep.

The beast threw the girl over its shoulder and ran off into the forest, leaving the copy inside the tent.

"AAAAAAAHHH!!!"

An ear-piercing scream was heard from the tent.

"Calm down, what happened?"

"The hen... It's gone!"

The old woman was angry.

"What? You were supposed to guard it with your life if necessary!"

"I-I know, but it was so quiet and I... I guess I just dozed off."

The old woman facepalmed herself.

"Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk. We have to find it. I have just the spell for that."

She started a chant and her hands began to glow purple.
Suddenly, The Slime felt compelled to touch the light. It looked so warm and nice...

The Slime tried to fight the urge. It has never seen magic before, but it knew that these thoughts were not its own, rather they were forced from the outside, and a wild monster valued freedom above everything else
The Slime dissolved the ground around itself trying to occupy the mind with something else, but the sensation was like a terrible itch that could not be scratched in any other way than reaching the light. Defeated and ashamed of itself, it burrowed to a nearby bush and emerged, taking on the form of a Hen.

"Bok Bok!"

It screamed as it jumped into the woman's arms. A pleasant warmth spread through its body, making it feel peaceful for the first time since it left the cave. It felt so pleasant that The Slime almost reverted to its base form!

"There you are. Where'd you get so dirty? Ah, nevermind. We have to get going, there's somebody I want to meet."

"Want to meet? Who would that be?" The fourth woman, who remained silent until now, exclaimed.

"A friend. I know you don't trust the Elven kind, but I can assure you he's a good man. He'll help us."

"If you say so." The woman went back to being silent. She was shorter than the two elves and quite stocky. Her skin was a warm brown color and her hair was black.

They made their way through the forest for a day or two. The pace wasn't great - after all, the women were barefoot and even if the old woman cast some regenerative magic on them, it hurt to walk and constantly cut them open. They set up camp in a different place and ate a dinner of some berries they picked along the way, giving a portion to the Slime. When they finished eating, they looked like bona fide Banshees - The berries were very juicy and stained the women all over, giving them a bloodied appearance.

[New skill: Red Pigment Creation acquired!]

"Where are we going? It's sooo far away, can't we rest here for a moment?" The fake child was complaining.

"We're almost there, can you continue?" The old woman kneeled by the fake child, which sat down on the ground.

"I... uhh-"

"Do you want me to carry you."

"...Yes."

The woman picked her up and they continued. After some time, sweat appeared on her forehead and she turned red.

"Is everything alright?"

"Yes, it's just that the little one is a bit heavier than she looks." She said while huffing and puffing. "Can you walk now?"

The child nodded.

An entrance to a cave appeared from between the trees.

"We're here."

One could see that the shorter woman was deeply disappointed.

"What, your friend is a caveman? How's he gonna help us? Will he give us mammoth hides to wear and feed us raw meat."

The old woman shook her head, annoyed at the remark, and then she whispered a chant. The cave started glimmering and the entrance became hazy. Where once was a gaping hole, there was now an ornamentally decorated stone wall of a big house.

"Wha- What!?"

"Illusions, my child."
>>
The door opened and a man of medium height appeared. His face was barely visible from under his long hair and a longer beard, both of which reached below his waist.

"Who goes the- Yanna? On The Lion's mane, it's been years since I saw you! What happened? Come inside girls, you look miserable."

The man led them to a sauna of kinds. The steam came from a pedestal with a bowl engraved with runes and was satiated with a mixture of herbs which sped up regeneration. The woman and the Slime washed there, and when they were all dried and dressed in clean clothes (save for the Slime), there was time for dinner.

A brown stew with bits of grayish meat was being served. All the women were incredibly starved, but all spare Yanna were unsure whether to eat the gop.

"What are you waiting for? Dig in, you don't want to insult Tohorin's cooking, right?" She said as she helped herself to a sizeable bowl.

The first one to try it was the short woman. She shakily brought the spoon to her lips, and then dropped it on the table when she tasted the stew. All eyes turned to her.

"It's... incredible! What is it!? It tastes like the Gulash my great-grandfather used to make!"

"That's because it is a Gulash. Well, a good imitation. It was hard to emulate the taste with the herbs found in the forest, but I think I did a pretty good job."

"Pfetty good? It's incfedible!" She replied with her mouth full of food.

Sadly, the Slime didn't get a chance to taste it and had to make do with some buckwheat and water.
After dinner they all went to sleep, including The Slime, who Yanna put in a woven basket and covered with a handkerchief.
It was awoken by a faint glow coming from the kitchen and two hushed voices talking. The Slime was about to go investigate, but right then he noticed that the pantry door had been left ajar. Its chicken beak watered at the thought of all the goods that lie there. There might not be another chance like that...

112, that's a success. DC was 80.

Screw whatever they're saying, Slime's hungry. Stealthy like a shadow, it slipped past the door and almost bok-boked in excitement. All this food! Delicious food! Food, food, food!
It rampaged inside the pantry (as quietly as possible, mind you.) and feasted on the various meats, jams and other food that was inside.
First to go were the colorful fruits and jams, which just so happened to contain all the primary colors...
[New skill: Every pigment creation acquired!]
...The next to go was milk and cheese...
[New skill: Milk creation acquired!]
[New skill: Cheese mimicry acquired!]
...and last but not least, the meats! They were mostly red, but there was also some fish there...
[New skill: Beast instincts acquired!]
[New skill: Steel Hide acquired!]
[New skill: Steelhide Bear mimicry acquired!]
[New skill: Deafening roar acquired!]
[New skill: Carp mimicry acquited!]
The Slime was eating to its nonexistent heart's content, when suddenly it heard something strange. it was something like light tapping on a glass window. It didn't hear it before, but the newly acquired skill must've sharpened its senses. It focused its Life Force Sense to the maximum and found a very small lifeforce deep behind the stone wall. Luckily, the Slime was able to find a crack and move through it. It ended up in a room that's rather different from the rest of the house. It was lined with countless drawers, shelves of books and animal parts nailed to the walls. In the middle of the room, there was a table stained with what looked like... blood? The only reason the Slime was able to see all this was that the room was being illuminated by a glass jar - A jar inside which The Slime sensed a life force.
"Who's here!? You're not that wretched old geezer, I can tell that by your aura. Hey, help me out, please! That bearded bastard has caught me and put in this dark room and I can't get out!" A thin, high-pitched female voice called out in a single breath. The Slime looked at the jar, then it looked at the shelves. Whatever was inside, it seemed distressed... But those animal parts look yummy.

The ability to gain skills from things you eat is a fun ability, especially if you try to combine them. For example: we can use steel hide in chicken mimic form, and use "every pigment creation" to have cephalopod-tier camouflage

If big enough, subsume the jar inside yourself and break it open when they drag you back.

>we don't have a voice yet...
Probably because until recently, the only brain we could mimic was about the size of a walnut. "Thinking" is basically a miracle of the Devourer's power at this point.
>>
Who has time for this foolery? Slime minds its own business, it's not gonna free the thing that the owner of this vast pantry imprisoned.
It is interested in a different jar, though. On a shelf in the opposite end of the room, a pair of eyes floats submerged in formalin. The Slime feels a need to devour these, an inner calling almost.

The Slime morphs into a chicken and pushes the jar off the shelf. It breaks and the eyes scatter.

"Hey, I can hear you making a mess! Come and help me!"

Up closer, the eyes are truly strange. They are grayish, almost silver in color and the irises are slit like a snake's. They take quite some time to dissolve and once they do, The Slime begins to glow.

[New skill: Basilisk gaze acquired!]
[New skill is interacting with the skill [Wild chicken mimicry]!]
[[WIld chicken mimicry] and [Basilisk gaze] morph into [Regulus mimcry]!]
[A Regulus is the lesser-known descendant of the ancient Basilisks. A Regulus is much smaller than a regular basilisk and has evolved feathers, much like the ordinary chicken. It is night indistinguishable from regular poultry, but it's capable of paralyzing its enemies with [Basilisk gaze] and its poisonous bite! The Regulus' natural enemy is the Weasel]

The Slime managed to devour a few claws, bones, crystals, and an oddly purple brain...
[New Skill: Infernal Claw acquired!]
[New Skill: Fire resistance acquired!]
[New Skill: Fireball acquired!]
[New Skill: Demon Language acquired!]
[Several strange crystals are now dissolved inside Slime]

93+10, success, DC was 70.

Light filled the room and Tohorin stepped inside. He scanned the room with his vision.

"What is that supposed to mean!?" He turned to the jar, obscuring the view for Slime "I demand an explanation."

"Then demand. pfft" The mysterious being brew a raspberry

"Where are my ingredients? And the crystals!? If I find out this was your doing, then I'll-"

"Then you'll what? First, you'd have to take me out of this jar, old fart. Come on, I'm waiting"

"Silence. It's clear you won't tell me what happened there." He used his finger to draw a symbol on the smooth glass. The symbol began to glow and the being's chatter abruptly stopped.
"By The Lion, what's with these 'Old man' remarks? I'm like a baby when compared to that airhead."

Tohorin started looking for missing stuff.

"Imp pelvic bone, Ifrit brain, Basilisk eyes..."

He stated loudly while the Slime hugged the wall, scared not to be discovered. It spread itself really thin and used pigment creation to mimic the appearance of stone bricks. You'd need to inspect it closely to see the difference between this camouflage and a real wall.

Tohorin stopped moving and took out a small orb from his pocket. An image swirled inside the orb, eventually revealing itself to be Yanna's face.

"I checked the laboratory. There's no one there and 'It' is still locked, but some crystals and a couple of ingredients are missing. I need you to come here and look for any traces with your magic while I set up a barrier around the house. Whoever did this can't be far away."

And then he left.

1)Chaos is an ally in these trying times
My first instinct is to set fire to the house.

2)Then again the fairy covered for me and freeing it might make a friend.

3) That said, this barrier is troubling. Maybe, I should go back to being a chicken and try to covertly sabotage it.

4)finally this thought is retarded but I'm a slime with an ifrit brain. maybe I should try to burn the golem child so that it will expose itself to the others.

Do which ever number got rolled.

Pros: we can now speak
Cons: we can only speak demon
Unless the brain only means we can comprehend demon language...
Free the mysterious being I guess, and consume the golem thing

We can also become a fire-breathing steel-hide camouflage healing bear with basilisk eyes and infernal claws that [Deafening Roar]s in demonic. If we so choose.
gonna need a character sheet for our abilities soon OP

>>4287008
Not my vote but, what do you think would happen if we tried to eat the trapped fairy?
>>
>>4287256
Hmmm
Fairy mimicry, complete with magical skills? The thing is apparently older than the ancient elf guy though, so I think the knowledge the fairy has would be pretty useful to us. Seems pretty high-tier though, if we fail it could be a powerful enemy.
