Last time, you called a lot of people by phone and were called a dork. You’re dealing with the latter right now. Yes, Scarlet called you a dork totally unprovoked. What a terrible girl, after all you did for her she has shown you her true colors.

Currently, Scarlet is on top of you, face-to-face and looking very smug…

How do you reply?

>“That actually hurt, Scarlet.” Pretend to be the victim.
>“No, u.” An intelligent response from an intelligent individual.
>“We need to prepare for the mission, but don’t think we’re finished here.” You’ll have your revenge later.
>Roll away to safety.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“We need to prepare for the mission, but don’t think we’re finished here.” You’ll humble her later, you’re too busy to waste time here!

“S-Sure!” Scarlet complies as she moves away from you, all smug like she won the war – but little does she know that this is merely the beginning! You’ll get her when she least expects it! “The cult isn’t going to take itself down!” She’s truly a positive girl.

“Wouldn’t surprise me if it actually did though...” You believe they are run fairly incompetently.

“My positivity is rubbing off on you.” Scarlet is acting way too happy after what just happened. If she wasn’t cute, you would be mad… Well, you’re a lil’ mad anyway. That bubble butt is going to feel your revenge!

“If you say so.” Your roll your eyes.

“Well then, Johnny, we should go get that van first, right?” Scarlet starts getting into the groove of the mission.

“Yeah, we should. It’s in here, so we only need to talk to reception.” You need to talk to the homeless shelter guy again to sort this out too.

“Uhm…” Scarlet starts pondering out loud as she starts putting her stuff back into her bag.

“What is it?” You start cleaning up the place before leaving.

“You know how to drive?”

“No.”

“I don’t know either.” Scarlet shrugs. “Who’s gonna drive?” She tilts her head in confusion.

“Huh, someone who is willing to help us.” You thought Ka-Shing could send someone who could, but now you don’t know what to do.

“You don’t want to get many people involved, right? So we can’t invite someone just to drive, I think. Maybe we can ask one of the people you recruited to help us out!” Scarlet throws an idea. “It needs to be someone we can trust, whether we want to or not, we will lead them to our base, y’know?” Scarlet looks a lil’ bit worried.

But you know that there is nothing to worry about! You know exactly who to ask to come over!

Yeah, do you? Who could this person be?

“I think Xavi is the man for this mission.” You propose. “I have no idea if he knows how to drive though.” He was transporting the sex slaves unbeknownst to him, so maybe?

“I know you probably aren’t in the mood, but why not call him?” Scarlet wonders with a gleeful smile. “I can do it if you don’t want to.”

“It’s all right, cuddling gave me my energy back.” You don’t know the number of calls you have made today, but you need to do even more.

And so, you asked Xavi in a quick call if he was willing to be tonight’s chauffeur, he accepted despite not sounding thrilled about it – anything to help he said. You gave him the address to the warehouse without specifying that it’s your base, just in case. He isn’t an official member so he doesn’t have the privileges yet.

Once that was done, you went downstairs, informed the reception about the van and your wish to take possession of it. You called the homeless shelter guy to confirm the vehicle is officially yours now to the employee who couldn’t care less. You got both keys for you to seize what’s rightfully yours. You and Scarlet waited for Xavi outside of the building, and once he got here, it was time to officially get this mission rolling…

Currently, you’re opening the door of the warehouse with the prize inside, to your surprise the van’s broken roof and doors were replaced! Now it has mismatched parts and looks even worse than before, aesthetically that is.

“Can I be honest?” Xavi looks at the van from top to bottom.

“Sure.” You’re gently beating on the door to see how good the new doors are.

“It looks like a pile of junk.” Xavi is underwhelmed.

“It is a pile of junk.” Scarlet shakes her head. Not even the positive girl can see the good side of it.

“I wish it wasn’t a pile of junk…” It’s all yours though.

“Can it even move?” Xavi has his doubts.

“I hope it can…” You didn’t test it. “Here.” You throw him the keys, they go way off target and over Xavi’s head.

“…” Xavi didn’t like that.

“I got it…” Scarlet runs for them and brings the keys to Xavi.

“T-Thanks, homegirl.” Xavi takes the keys, he climbs aboard to try the engine. It’s running! “Tank is full, that’s good!”

“Great.” You nod. “Let’s put our stuff inside…”

With everything inside, you’re ready to go wherever you wish. Pressure starts settling in, as the mission is minutes away from beginning. Now, you need to call everyone once again to inform them it’s time, but maybe you can do something else before you start getting your hands dirty.

“Hey, thanks again for helping us, Xavi.” You tell the guy as you’re checking if there’s anything weird inside the van.

“Yeah, we would be screwed without you!” Scarlet compliments.

“I didn’t expect you guys in need for a driver of all things.” Xavi half-jokingly responds.

“This is the first time we’re bringing a lot of people to a mission and we needed to transport them somehow. I usually go solo.” You never had to mobilize anyone but you two. “With Scarlet monitoring from a safe place that is.”

“It’s easy to imagine with your ability that you don’t need much company.” Xavi turns back to see you moving around from the driver seat. “It would be pretty neat turning invisible and all.”

“What does your superpower do, Xavi? Johnny told me some details, but I would like to hear it from you.” Scarlet is interested in what Xavi can do.

“It lets me know a person’s deepest wish… It sounds better than what it really is, it’s just a convoluted mess to perform.” Again Xavi sounds disappointed in his own ability.

“How so?” Scarlet wants more details!

“It’s hard to explain... no, it’s not – but it’s hard to imagine.” Xavi is unsure. “If I show you, I know you’ll get it.”

“That doesn’t sound bad. Why don’t you show us?” You’re interested as well. “Knowing what everyone can do will be vital for the plan.”

“If you’re wondering, I don’t have a flame or anything. But my superpower is to spread positivity.” Scarlet says the latter half in a jokingly tone.

And I’m the dork…” You mutter to yourself. Scarlet completely ignores this despite listening to what you just said.

“I wonder if an actual flame could do that, spread positivity I mean.” Xavi ponders. “W-Well, it’s not something we should care about right now. Ehm… I’ve never used Naiad’s ability with two people simultaneously.” Xavi scratches his cheek with one finger.

“Well, Johnny here is the man of action. You should test it on him.” Scarlet smirks.

“Why me…?” You’re not exactly against the idea, but still.

“I-I’m not sure if I want to reveal my deepest wish, y’know?” Scarlet gets embarrassed. You don’t mind showing yours because it’s saving the world, right…?

“Like I said, it’s not that simple…” Xavi doesn’t want you two to get the wrong idea. “Naiad said it’s fine for two people to go, but she would prefer if it was one of you at a time - she says it will enhance the experience.”

Oookay, maybe I could do it. It’s not like I’m super curious or anything.” The super curious Scarlet exclaims.

You won’t lie to yourself, you too are incredibly interested in this… What would your deepest wish truly be?

Who should do this first?

I find it fitting that Johnny of all people is deflecting the "see/know your deepest wish" test to Scarlet and not taking it on himself. It suits his character in a subtle way. A degree of denial, or simply not thinking about that which he's still hung up about, deep inside himself. He's the protag of our story, but he's got motives and insecurities of his own that he both acts upon and reacts upon, as any good character should have and be.

Yes, but Johnny is a character of his own too, outside of player influence and control. On the outside, it might seem that he is obviously baiting Scarlet into falling for a tease trap, but he's still somewhat shaken up from his earlier dealings with the Dewitt family. On the inside, he's definitely trying not to think of issues that pertain to his own family, I think, and maybe on some level is afraid of his "most deepest wish" being just wanting to be with his mom again and of that being outed to Scarlet (a friend he knows personally, but despite having seen her insecurities and attachment issues way back in the quest is wary of dropping his guard around, and uses the teasing/playfulness as a cover) and Xavi (the person with said flame power, former cult member, a new member on his side of the war, AND somebody that unknowingly lives literally one floor above him in his apartment building) right before an operation where things could go wrong. My opinion is all this, but also that he's trying to avoid personal things that concern himself from being focused on in the leadup to the Dark Church infiltration, because then it'll shake him up more and might cause him to fuck up?

What do you guys think about Johnny as a character in this quest? Not just here, but the long way he's come from Thread 1 all the way to now?
>>
>>4273616
hes been one interesting dude. I feel like a few anons don't like how he makes dumb choices, grows then falls back into the same mistakes again. all in all I enjoy him, especially in the mid 40s chapters when Johnny was a cake mix of anon votes and the QM self-inserting.

that whole thing about the flame screwing with johnny and nina's emotions. think the qm had a messy experience once. anyway that's just what I saw could be reading into it. self-insert isnt bad, found it investing

“Then do it.” You pressure Scarlet to commit once and for all. “It is safe, right?”

“Completely.” Xavi responds without an ounce of doubt in his tiny body.

“You’ll have to promise me you’re not going to tell anyone about this, Xavi!” Scarlet wants to make sure her secret is safe.

“I promise I won’t tell anyone.” Xavi raises his hand to show his commitment.

“Fantastic! What do I have to do then?” Scarlet looks excited! Reminds you about when you and Trent meddled with the mafia. What a day that was!

“Get comfortable and close your eyes.” Xavi brings Naiad out. The little fairy waves at you and Scarlet, the poor redhead can’t see it and not just because she closed her eyes – you wave back on your end.

“Is this good?” Scarlet sounds nervous.

“Yeah, it is.” Xavi makes Naiad float over to Scarlet. “I actually don’t know what happens when we’re doing this. So you can tell us later, Johnny.”

“Sure.” Maybe this is something similar to what the judges do?

“You ready?” Xavi asks Scarlet one last time before getting things going.

“Y-Yes!” Scarlet can’t hide her excitement any longer.

“Then let’s go…” Xavi looks somewhat worried about what’s going to happen.

And with this signal, Naiad starts throwing some powder around, then a faint light starts emanating – Naiad waves at you one more time before they all abruptly disappear with no fanfare. The light remains shining underneath, making you wonder if they are still here or something. You use your own ability to perceive if they’re invisible or anything, but you don’t see anything.

“Do you see a practical use for this ability?” Philonune looks intrigued.

“Maybe Xavi can take someone out of the picture for a while.” That’s a possibility, but you haven’t gone close enough to the light or where they were to check if they actually teleported in fear of putting it to a stop. Xavi could just explain what’s going on anyway.

“I wonder how long this is going to take…” Philonune floats around to get a closer look. “I don’t feel their presence here.” He gets to confirm.

Suddenly the light starts fading, and both of them slowly reappear like a cheap movie special effect.

“That was… something else.” Scarlet’s face tells you very little.

“Yeah, sorry.” Xavi looks down.

“What are you sorry for? I’ve never done something like that in my life! I doubt anyone else can!” Scarlet won’t let Xavi talk his ability down. “For how long were we gone, Johnny?”

“Like a couple of minutes.” You check your phone. Not more than 10 minutes.

“It felt like hours...” Scarlet is surprised.

“If it wasn’t quick, I wouldn’t have accepted to perform it right now.” Xavi looks kinda happy that his ability is getting some recognition.

“How was it?” You want to know!

“Pretty cool…” Scarlet looks glad to have done it but is trying to keep to herself. “Naiad made me promise not to tell you more, unless you don’t want to do it.”

“She’s a show-off.” Xavi briefly tells you why. “Do you want to do it right now?”

How do you respond?

“Sure!” You give him a thumbs up to seal the deal.

“Naiad is happy to hear that.” Xavi nods to you. He moves closer to where you are. “Ready when you are.”

“Huh… I’m ready.” You don’t know what else you could do.

“Let’s go again…” Xavi looks a little bit more confident this time.

Naiad again starts throwing some powder around… But suddenly, this time your body starts floating in the air, then you fly away from the van at a great speed, going through anything solid like you’re some type of ghost! You go up in the air, then you reach space, then you go even further, and further beyond! All you can see are incomprehensible lights around you at this point!

“Partner, this is incredible!” Philonune is enjoying the ride. He’s floating by your side like always, not losing his flame form.

“I-Is this normal?!” You aren’t sure how to feel. You try to use Philonune’s ability to look around to make sure what you’re seeing is real or not, but it doesn’t help much.

Then, in the blink of an eye, you find yourself on a deserted land. It’s like how the moon would look like in a TV show but Blue. In fact, everything is blue. It’s kind of mesmerizing… You’re on a crater of sorts, your body lies down on the ground, looking up. You feel funny.

“Hey.” Xavi suddenly appears.

“F-Fuck!” That came out of nowhere! You stand up.

“Sorry about that.” Xavi’s calm demeanor helps you realize that there is nothing to fear. “I know what you’re thinking, but everything about flying and stuff was all Naiad’s doing. Think it’s like a loading screen of sorts while she was getting things ready.” Why is he spoiling the magic?

“A good magician doesn’t reveal his secrets.” You know that very well now. Naiad, who is floating next to Xavi, completely agrees. “W-Where are we now?”

“Welcome to the place where all wishing stars gather: Dream Hill. A fairy land.” Xavi reveals without much fanfare.

“That’s an awfully uninspired name.” You say that about pretty much everything lately.

“Homegirl said you would say as much.” Xavi chuckles. “I will accompany you on your journey here.”

“Like a tourist guide?”

“K-Kinda, yeah. But I won’t do much guiding. It will be all up to you.” Xavi gets a little nervous. “Look around, do you see the stars on the ground?”

“What stars on the ground?” You don’t see shit.

“Like this one.” Xavi points to something behind you. It’s kinda like a star-shaped lamp glowing. “Those represent a person in our world right now. If you touch it, you will know what their deepest wish is – you’ll understand it better once you try it.”

“Should I…?” It’s just a random person’s wish?

“Not with this one, no. It looks yellow to you, right?” Xavi asks but he already knows the answer.

“Yeah.”

“It means it comes from a person you don’t know anything about. The redder they appear, the closer they are to you in real life. What decides that is unknown to me.” Xavi explains. “Yours should be a different color, I don’t know which, but you’ll recognize it immediately. For example, the one you pointed out looks orange to me.”

“Should we look around for mine?” Maybe that will speed things up.

“Maybe, maybe not. The stars who have a link with you, will slowly move towards you. Naiad believes everything and everyone is connected by fate, so you’ll find what you need to find.” Xavi doesn’t believe what he’s saying. “Looking around has always helped find it faster, though.”

“So Naiad won’t talk to us?” You want to hear her voice.

“She says she will eventually.” Xavi nervously chuckles.

“Does she mind if I touch the yellow ones?” You want to know how much freedom you have here.

“No. Feel free to do whatever you want. I didn’t think you wanted to waste your time with a random one.” Xavi says half-apologetically. “Pick any of them if you’re curious.”

“Will you see everything I do?”

“Kinda, it’s weird. You’ll get it once you grab one.” Xavi shrugs. “Just because this is our ability, it doesn’t mean I know how it works exactly – you’re only the 4th person I’ve done this with.”

“Partner, what do we do?” Philonune is interested in everything around him. It doesn’t seem like Xavi can hear your partner, but part of you believes Naiad can…

“Well, find a red star. It will give us a good idea of what’s going on.” You answer Philonune’s inquiry.

“I wonder if I see things differently.” Philonune looks around.

“Once we find a colored star, we’ll know.” Now you have a reason to do so!

“It seems you’re ready to go.” Xavi assumes you were talking with your partner by the look on his face.

“Yeah. One question, can you go by yourself here?” It’s a silly question, but maybe there is a limitation to his power.

“I can. I prefer not to.” Xavi doesn’t seem too interested in this one.

“Why?”

“It always depresses me one way or another.” Xavi looks down. “I can tell you more later after you pick one of these. You’ll understand better what I have to say by then.”

“Right… Let me look around.” You want to find a red star, you start walking around aimlessly with Xavi trailing behind.

You cannot describe how huge this place feels, like it would take an eternity to travel all the way through – not too much different from the Earth you know. As your mind droves off into your sea of thoughts, you spot a red star! You get closer.

“This one is red, partner.” You tell Philonune.

“Indeed it is.” Philonune recognizes it as such. So it probably means you both see the same thing.

“You decided on one?” Xavi wonders as he sees you in front of it.

“Yep, so what do I need to do again?” You want to make sure you aren’t doing the wrong thing.

“Just grab it. That simple.” Xavi smiles. “Whatever comes to you, it will stop once you let the star go.”

“All right, here I go…” You’re a little bit nervous. But you grab the red star…

Immediately, a large screen appears in front of you. It displays some individuals shrouded by darkness, like shadows. The camera pans away and a little girl is shown, unlike the others, you can make out her appearance. She extends her hands towards the dark figures…

“I want to see them again.” A voice pleads. Constance’s…

You stop holding the red star.

“I…” You cannot put it into words.

“Try not to let the stars go too quickly or you’ll miss something important.” Xavi shakes his head. “I don’t know what you saw, but to me, all of the people there were completely dark and the voices were distorted. I got what it said, so you don’t need to tell me if you were about to. I have no idea why they are like that sometimes.”

“Right…” You understand why it’s depressing to watch. “I think I saw enough of this one.”

“I’m starting to understand why you don’t come here often.” You start looking around for another star.

“You do?” Xavi looks quite surprised.

“It’s hard to watch.”

“I guess so…” Judging by the way Xavi says it, you don’t think you quite nailed it. “It’s never easy to listen to those. But majorly, wishes aren’t something this heart-wrenching.”

“But you said that it’s a person’s deepest wish.” You raise an eyebrow.

“Right?! You start losing hope when their biggest wish is a promotion or a house or whatever.” Xavi points at you and moves his finger enthusiastically. “That’s not it either. Even if I find that shallow, it doesn’t happen often either.”

“So what exactly brings you down?” You ask.

“I think you’re going to get it once you try another star.” Xavi has high hopes for you.

So Xavi will open up little by little. You don’t mind, everyone works differently, and it’s never bad to have another friend. As you continue looking around, you find another red star!

“Here we go…” You put your dirty hands on another red star.

As fast as last time, the large screen is back. This time, it displays a group of people you cannot make out, similar to the shadowy figures of the last video. Except for a few exceptions – among them, Constance…

“Before my body falls apart, I want to help them – I want to help them have a normal life again.” That’s Doctor Calamity’s voice. “I won’t let anything stop me.”

“You will, doc.” You mutter to yourself. He kinda sounds a little bit threatening there, but it is what it is.

“Are these people you know?” Xavi wonders, he didn’t inquire about it before.

“Yeah.” You admit.

“They sound like nice people.” Xavi smiles in the distance.

As you look over to the same direction Xavi is, you see something that bothers you…

“That one has a crack.” You point at that one star in particular, it’s completely gray.

What…?” Xavi looks confused. Naiad flies around next to his ear and whispers something. “Oh... It means… that person is dead. Which reminds me, if you find a star turnin’ darker it means the opposite if they were shining red.”

“So they hate me…?” You raise an eyebrow. He could’ve put it in simpler terms.

“Not exactly, I don’t know why not exactly, but that’s what Naiad told me.” Xavi shrugs. “Between us, it totally sounds like hate.”

“Can I pick them up? The broken and the darker ones?”

“Yeah. I don’t see why not.” Xavi shrugs and Naiad isn’t against it either.

“Why would we want to know what our enemies desire? We’re going to crush their hopes anyway.” Philonune doesn’t see a point. You don’t agree, you could find something interesting.

But what is truly interesting right now is the fact the two red stars you found are from people with a strong desire to get their wishes come true. At least, that’s what touching the stars made you feel, something you didn’t comment on before but realize now.

What do you do now?

“Uhm…” You’re really tempted to just grab one of them. “So what happens if people do have their deepest wish to come true? Does something replace it inside their mind?”

“No clue, but I would assume so. Can’t rule out the chance that something so deep doesn’t get replaced that easily.” Xavi sounds interested to talk about this. “I really want to find out.”

“Does Naiad not know?”

“She probably does, but she keeps evading the question.” Xavi sighs. Naiad is acting clueless.

“Why?”

“She wants me to fulfill one.” Xavi is starting to look a little bit somber. Naiad nods, showing that that is indeed her intention. “For a good while I tried. Curiosity is one hell of a motivator, but I didn’t accomplish much – I haven’t completely given up but it’s a tall order.” Xavi looks up to the other stars. You’ll refrain from commenting on an obvious pun. “There is a trick I use, the first step to stop being strangers is to know someone’s name; nothing worked better! With just that, you could tint one of the yellow stars ever so slightly. I bet when you get used to this, you’ll notice it yourself.”

“So you tried to help a lot of people?” That’s very commendable of him, if you say so yourself. Or at least, he was spying on strangers.

“No, I failed to help a small number of people.” Xavi chuckles. “Have you decided on another star?”

“Yeah…” You look down to one of the broken ones.

“Go ahead.” You expected Xavi to stop you or something…

“Okay…” You grab the random broken star on the ground.

You already know the drill by now! The screen makes a comeback lighting fast to display more footage! There are two shadowy figures on the display, no taller than a 10 year old kid would be. In front of them, a larger shadow.

“I just want to hug my 2 daughters again.” The wish of a man that’s never going to be fulfilled.

“I’m sorry.” You don’t know who it is, but those words came out of your mouth.

You let the star go.

“…I-I swear on my grandfather’s grave that there are some funny ones.” Xavi tries to relieve the pressure with one oddly fitting comment.

“I would love to grab one of those!” You try to make light of the subject as well.

“Maybe try a random one? Hahaha…” Xavi is not really laughing.

“No, I don’t think I will. Haha.” You fake laugh as well.

“Let’s move on then. Haha.” Xavi continues with this skit.

“I think we should stop that now…” You feel really bad.

“Yeah…” So does Xavi. “It never gets easy.”

“Fake laughing?”

“That too.” Xavi takes your joke in stride. “So, why did your partner choose you?”

“Because I was the raddest kid he could find.” You remember Philonune saying that you had potential or something. “Or something like that.”

“You could say that.” Philonune finds some merit in what you just said, even though it was a joke.

“…is your entity some kind of Soda Company Mascot?” Xavi is being serious about this.

“No…” But he does wear shades… Or something alike. “He’s a fallen angel.”

“Did you mention that before? I feel like you told me…” Xavi looks confused for a second.

“I don’t think so.” You find that odd.

“I think memory is playing tricks on me.” Xavi shakes his head. “Maybe I’m confusing you with that detective guy, Richard.”

“Maybe? I don’t know.” You shrug. “So, what about Naiad? Why did she choose you?”

“Once she entered this world, she was so afraid of everything for some reasons. I was the first guy she found that wasn’t evil. Not good. Just not evil…” Xavi looks down yet again. Naiad pats his back. “Beggars can’t be choosers, I suppose.”

“Believe me, I know an entity that was quite picky…” That damn Bastet… You wonder if Neko is still out from yesterday. “Wasn’t Naiad herself the one who talked about fate and all that jazz?”

Naiad points at you in agreement.

“Huh, makes you think…”

“I know what star to pick.” You put your eyes on a dark one…

“Then what are we waiting for?” Xavi pumps his fist.

You grab another star and the show begins…

“All I need right now is an obedient bitch with nice thighs and a shiny butt.” That’s your dad.

You let the star go.

“See, that one was funny!” Xavi chuckles nervously.

“…It wasn’t that funny.” You pretend to be let down.

“Yeah, it’s funnier in hindsight, you need some time to digest it. Good thing it was just a random star and we’ll never meet the guy.”

“…That was my dad who ditched me to move overseas.” You still have no idea where the fuck he went exactly.

“Oh.” Xavi is nodding like a dumbass because he doesn’t know how to respond to that. “That’s rough, buddy.”

“What’s your family like?” You wonder.

“Normal, I think? My mom is a veterinarian and my dad stays at home, not like I saw him all that much – they sent me to boarding schools. I have a couple of siblings too, but our age gap is quite significant so we don’t have much of a relationship. We saw each other on holidays, but it’s all very dull. We aren’t the hugging types either, but I think they were nice.” Xavi doesn’t seem to care much about his family.

“You don’t like hugs..?” That’s like, one of your favorite things!

“Huuuh… I guess not? Never thought about it.” Xavi is having one type of introspection he never thought he was going to have.

“Sounds tough.” Your mom always said the only thing she wouldn’t run out of is love for you and Amelia.

“Didn’t your dad ditch you?”

“It’s not a contest. We can both have it rough for different reasons.” You might have pushed his buttons.

“Y-You’re right… Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to offend you.” Xavi apologizes.

“No offense taken, chill.” Makes you think if you would’ve wanted that kind of life instead of having your loving mom gone. This is not something worth thinking about. “So how many stars did Scarlet grab?” You think an estimate will help you put things into perspective.

“A couple dozen.” Xavi shrugs.

D-Dozens?!” You’re taken aback. And you thought you were bad, what is wrong with that girl?!

“Yeah, you’re just getting started!” Xavi finds your reaction humorous. “Well… in comparison, anyway.”

“I decided what star to touch next…” You see an orange one that caught your attention.

“Feel free to continue.” Xavi didn’t like all the family talk.

You grab the orange star and a new show begins…

A smug looking shadow stands tall… Bullets go through his head! Ouch!

“I will kill you, Koroma, with my own two hands. You’ll pay for what you fucking did, you motherfucker.” That’s… Billy!

“Huh… So that changes some things.” Maybe this is why he really kidnapped Ruby.

“Woah, that was intense!” Xavi outright admits.

“You feel it too?” There is an emotional charge inside all of these stars.

“Yeah, isn’t it odd? It’s almost like I’m getting mad and I don’t even know who these people are.” Xavi looks away.

“It is odd...” You feel the same intense rage. Same with the sadness of the others.

You didn’t feel anything with your dad’s though…

“Enjoying your stay in the Field of Hopes and Dreams?” Xavi asks after the long, awkward pause.

“Why are you asking me that now?” You’re a lil’ bit confused.

“Naiad scolded me for not introducing this place as that, like a big slogan. Dream Hill: The Field of Hopes and Dreams!” Xavi says in a magnified voice. “She thinks I’m ruining this for you on purpose.”

“Tell her that I’m really enjoying myself here…” For better or worse.

Naiad shows up from behind Xavi’s head and poses triumphantly. She really liked that answer.

“She always wants to make people happy. It’s hard to keep up with her sometimes.” Xavi kicks a little blue moon rock. “Has that happened? You and your partner not being on the same page?”

“Not that I remember…” You’re struggling to think of a time when Philonune wanted to do something you didn’t so badly. “Oh I got one, he was disappointed when I chose not to fight Ammirati that one time.” That counts, right?

“Y-You what…?” Xavi is flabbergasted.

“I was walking around the sewer and saw him with Giorsal.” Feels like it was so long ago, even though it really wasn’t.

“Y-You what…?” Xavi repeats.

“I needed to get home to help a friend during the curfew… You know, it’s a long story, I’ll tell you next time.” You won’t entertain this topic any longer.

“But why didn’t you do anything to him? You’re trying to stop him, right?”

“Because I was as shocked as you are now when I saw him.”

“Were you scared?” Xavi badly wants to know.

“Of course I was, but I was even more scared of what would’ve happened if I couldn’t do what I wanted to do at the time.” You’re sincere. Ajna needed your help then, you’ll stand by your choice. “Though now that I think about it, that would’ve been my best shot to stop him.”

“It didn’t happen for a reason, that’s what Naiad would say.” Xavi doesn’t want you to feel guilty about that. “But it was a good chance.”

“You know, this one… I want to pick this one…” You happen to notice a red star under you.

“Grab it then.” Xavi is ready to watch this show…

You bend over to grab this red star…
“Everyone I know really needs to relax! We need a break! We should go all together to the beach! I wanna take a nap under the sun...” That’s Yu Yan’s voice! T-That’s her deepest wish?! A little bit underwhelming... You see a beach now, and Yu Yan using your body as a pillow… The members of the Motley Crew appear as well, but poorly defined.

“Huh, that ain’t impossible.” But you don’t know if it’s the time for that.
>>
>>4278192

“That’s unusual.” Xavi looks a little perplexed.

“How so? Sounded fairly normal.”

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s a self-seeking wish. But it’s different from the ones I’m used to.” Xavi doesn’t want you to take it badly.

“How many stars have you touched?” You raise your eyebrow yet again! People will start thinking you have a tic if you don’t stop.

“Huuh… Enough to disappoint you…?” Xavi can’t put it into words.

“I still don’t get what’s so different about this one.” You find it boring, but that’s just your opinion – well, a trip to the beach wouldn’t be bad at all…

“People are selfish by nature, so wishing something so vain and shallow for everyone you care about – it’s unique, for lack of a better word.” Xavi has trouble explaining himself. You’re slowly learning more and more about the guy as you talk.

“At the end of the day, it’s a nice present for someone else and themselves.” You’re happy all the people you care about aren’t selfish.

“That’s why I find it good, not great – but good.” Xavi keeps it simple.

“So are you this judgmental with every wish you hear?” You wonder. Xavi has been revealing aspects of himself you aren’t sure if he’s that willing to share.

“Acting like I am is an occupational hazard.” Xavi has no qualms admitting it. “I’m sure they won’t care about what I have to say about them anyway.”

“That’s not my point, though.”

“If anything I said offended you, I’m sorry; I tend to just spit out what’s on my mind here.” Xavi looks apologetic.

“Like I said before, no offense taken. I’m just worried about you, man.” You feel like you had the wrong mindset for so long, you don’t want the same thing to happen to Xavi.

“T-Thanks.” Xavi doesn’t know how to respond to that. “A-Aren’t you going to pick another star?”

“Yeah, I think I’ll just pick whatever this time around… Maybe it will help me understand you better.” You lock on to your next objective… A yellow star!

You hold it tight and a new display appears before you… A threatening shadowy figure is shown, you feel pressured just by its presence on the screen…

“My only desire was to build a great nation that will be the foundation of a prosperous future for the next generations. One that will fulfill our potential as a species, as humans. I can't reach that goal within my lifetime, but I won’t let those leeches corrupt the seeds I’ve planted.” A threatening but resolute voice speaks.

“Huh… Good luck with that?” You don’t know what to say. You have no idea why you acknowledge their wishes.

“W-Was that…?!” Xavi realizes who’s behind that wish.

“Who?” You aren’t sure if he’s onto something.

“F-Forget it, I’m seeing things.” Xavi shakes his head.

“You can’t say that. Just tell me, if it’s a bad guess, so be it.” You shrug.

“That sounded like the President...” Xavi says it like it’s a big reveal.

“Oh, makes sense, I guess.” Most Politicians are this deluded anyway.

“T-That’s all that you have to say?!”

“For now, yeah.” You keep looking around Dream Hill uninterested.

“Sorry, even if I take his word, his actions don’t reflect them.” You try to explain yourself to Xavi. “He’s the same threat one way or another.”

“I see what you mean.” Xavi bobs his head in understanding. “You can have the best intentions in the world, but if you hurt people – what’s the point?”

“Yeah, you’re onto something.” You look around for a new star to take.

“So if you had to fight the president, would you do it?”

“I’m trying to solve this as peacefully as I can, so I’d really rather not. Every time I fight head on it backfires on me.” You half-assedly explain.

“So you’re playing it smart?” Xavi looks at you with optimism.

“Kinda? I’m just doing my best…” You’ll have to let him down though.

“Beaming with confidence I see…” Xavi found that humorous. “Talking with you and Scarlet made me realize something.”

“What is it?” You’ve been kinda rude this whole time, so you wonder what he could’ve possibly realized.

“That you guys are not even close to as clever as I thought at first.” Xavi insults you out of nowhere. You frown in response. “D-Don’t take it badly, I just imagined you guys were on this pantheon of amazing people who are unreachable to us normal folks.”

“What did you think I was? A superhero?”

“Yeah, kinda, why not? It wouldn’t be the craziest thing.” Xavi is being honest to a fault at this point. “Maybe I can make the difference.”

“We already did, didn’t we? We saved those people from the cult.” In the grand scheme of things, it might be little – but to some people it meant a lot. “At the very least, we have a chance, you know?”

Naiad flies past Xavi to float in front of you, then she points at you very clearly proud of what you just said.

“Heh, she liked what you said.” Xavi smiles.

“That’s good.” You feel unfitting for this kind of conversation, you haven’t done much yet in regards to saving the world so far. “Hey, I think I’ll pick this one up.” It’s an orange star, a little closer to yellow than you might like though. You grab it, and the next wish is on display…

“Love you, Qilin. But I have a good thing going on here, so you and your demon friends can fuck right off from the earth! That’s my wish, baybay!” That’s Ka-Shing!

“Huh, not a bad one.” You’re fairly impressed.

“Do you think he meant the flames?” Xavi wonders.

“I don’t think we can interpret it any other way.” You find it painfully obvious.

“I would say something else, but I think I would get Naiad mad at me.” Xavi scratches the back of his head.

“And what would that be?” You’re going to make him spill it.

“If you said you agree with that wish, would your partner get mad?” An unimpressed Xavi inquires.

“I don’t know, let me ask him.” He’s right here, why wouldn’t you just ask him? You turn to Philonune. “So if I told you to fuck off, would you get mad at me?” You ask telepathically.

“I would be more confused as to why.” Philonune assures. “Regardless of context, we both know our union is just temporary – but I will always consider you my friend.”

“Thank you, Philonune. I feel the same way.” You fistbump his little flame form. You turn to Xavi. “He says he would be more confused than anything.”

“Naiad is very sensitive, that’s why I’m asking. I’ve never thought about what is going to happen after all of this, if there is even going to be an ‘after’... All I know is that I don’t want her gone.” Xavi pets his partner’s head. She receives it well. “Feels nice to have someone care about you.”

“I agree.” You smile at Xavi.

“So, you found another star?”

“Yeah, one right here…” It’s not completely red you think, but you could be wrong for all you care. Point is, it’s redder than the orange ones!

Let’s see what this one has to offer… A shadowy figure more or less your size appears on display…

“I don’t care anymore! Consequences be damned! I want him to hold me tight and kiss me passionately more than anything right now! I need him!” Those are Ruby’s words! What the hell?!

“She must feel lonely…” Poor girl. You know it isn’t easy dealing with loss...

“Huh… That ain’t good.” Xavi shakes his head.

“Yeah, she must be lonely.” You say out loud what you thought while watching. (Disclaimer: Xavi can’t hear what Johnny is “saying” during the wish screening as he is technically just thinking it, even if it’s in quotes.)

“Speaking from experience, whoever that was, he or she sounded like someone prepared to cheat on their spouse.” Xavi shakes his head.

“Maybe with a coworker?” You think Ruby might’ve met someone at work and feels bad about doing this. Osgood died not too long ago after all.

“Beats me, but sounds plausible.” Xavi shrugs.

“But she mentioned consequences, so maybe she wants to fuck the corpse of her deceased boyfriend.” Eureka! That’s disgusting but it makes complete and total sense!

“No… Wha… No… Wait, you know this person? You must know this person to say something like that. Why do you know this person?!” Xavi is disgusted.

“It’s fine, Xavi. I figured it out.” You slap him on the back and continue moving forward. On to the next one!

“This doesn’t feel right…” Xavi shakes his head. “You know the guy on the screen was—”

“I found another!” You grab the red-enough star on the ground to make the show begin again!

There is a little plushy of you on screen…

“I want to be a good girl! I want to be praised by everyone for being helpful! I want lots of food as a reward! I want to make everyone proud for believing in me!” A cute hobo Nariko exclaims as she bounces around.

“I want to be a bad girl! I yearn for power and status that doesn’t befit me! I eat what I want! I crave the attention no matter the cost! I desire to be punished every time I let everyone down!” A devilish Mooriko appears next to the other. The fuck is going on…? “But above else…”

“I don’t care if he praises us…” Hobo Nariko grabs your doll’s hand.

“I don’t care if he punishes us…” Devil Mooriko grabs the other doll’s hand.

“We’ll become whatever he wants us to become.” They all hug each other…

What the fuck?” You’re confused as to what this means.

“T-That person has 2 consciences…? Is that what’s going on?” Xavi is taken aback.

“I-Is that bad…?” You’re getting worried.

“Oh. Naiad says it’s fine, it’s just the internal conflict within one person. It doesn’t mean anything else.” Xavi relaxes. You will too, for the time being…

“That doesn’t sound reassuring.” You don’t want to say much more than that.

“It’s not as rare as we were thinking.” Xavi tries to find more words to calm you down. “Naiad said it’s normal in undeveloped minds like from children, or people struggling with decisions in certain periods of time.”

“Is there a case where that isn’t good?” You’re worried about your OG Hobo.

“If there was, Naiad doesn’t know about it. And take my word for it, Naiad knows very well what she’s doing.” Xavi vows.

“I believe you, I’m just worried is all.”

“I know there is a very big chance that these people are your friends, but you really worry about them a lot.” Xavi finds it odd. Of course you worry, isn’t that natural?!

“Can’t help it.” Maybe in the long run this won’t be beneficial.

“Naiad likes to say if it comes from a good place, it’s going to be warmly welcomed. Sounds snotty – but I know fairies don’t mean it that way.” Xavi stares in the distance. “Nothing worse than someone faking kindness, right?”

“I don’t know…” You don’t have all the answers.

“Uhm? Has that never happened to you?”

“Kinda?” Wasn’t the reason you originally met Scarlet something like that? “Yeah, I’m sure it happened…”

“And that didn’t bother you?”

“It did…” You look at a yellow star, it’s a little bit redder than the other ones, but it’s more yellow to you than anything. You hunch down to grab it. “I’m picking this one…”

Another wish to witness…!

“I really want someone to write me a theme song!” WILDFLAME proudly laughs at his petty wish.

“…” You don’t even have a comment to think here.

“That damn WILDFLAME.” Xavi chuckles.

“You saw him?” You immediately realize that this is the first time Xavi sees something that isn’t distorted.

“Who doesn’t know WILDFLAME? I bet every single flame user knows WILDFLAME.” Unlike everyone else you know, Xavi doesn’t seem to have any ill feelings towards the superhero. You don’t have any either, but you know more people who have disdain for him than anything positive.

“Why…?”

“He… just shows up?” Xavi didn’t realize how strange of a fact that is.

“Yeah, you’re right. He just shows up…” You remember that time when he randomly appeared to save your asses against Icioba... He didn’t do shit, but he tried!

“I remember seeing him at the Shining Volt Store with his microwave complaining it wasn’t melting his bananas the way he wanted.” Xavi recounts a peculiar story.

“Woah, really?” You pretend this isn’t normal for him.

“No. I told you the wildest story I could imagine about him to see if you would believe it.” Xavi is a stinking liar. Feels like he’s done this experiment before.

“Haha, I see what you did there.” You nod.

“What did I do?” Xavi is confused.

“The Wildest Story.” You explain his pun.

“Oh… Ooooh. Oh.” Xavi feels disgusted with himself.

“It wasn’t intentional?” You want him to clarify.

“No…”

“Oh…” How disappointing.

“Yeah.” Xavi looks down at a red star you didn’t see before. It’s not completely red now that you’ve examined it further.

“I found a star.” You change topics now that this information presented itself.

“Good.”

“I’m touching it…” You crouch down to see this one’s wish.

“I wish I could open up to the people I care about. I believe it’s only a matter of time before they discard me for my inability to do so. While I find being by oneself comforting, I do not wish to be alone.” That’s Matilda. “I rather… enjoy some people’s company.”

“I’m not leaving you alone, Matilda.” You shake your head. She sounds rather sad, in a way you’ve never seen before…

“That was strangely well articulated. Didn’t sound too emotional either.” Xavi pouts for some reason.

“What are you talking about? She totally sounded like… Oh right, you heard her distorted.” You almost forget.

“The only impairment the distortion does is hampering how I can identify who it is, everything else is exactly the same. That’s how Naiad’s magic works. Besides, we talked about feeling the raw emotions coming from these.” Xavi doesn’t like your argument.

“Then why did this one feel so sad?” You don’t get it.

“Could you try with another one? Maybe something is wrong with me.” Xavi is getting worried.

“Yeah, sure, let me look around…” You want to find another red star. Oh, there’s one that’s close enough! “Here, I’ll pick this one up!”

“I’ll try to really pay attention this time.” Xavi is taking it seriously!

“Let’s see what this one has to offer!” You hold onto it to see what’s inside! Is it inside the stars? You don’t know! You don’t care!

“I really, really want the world to be saved! I want my family to be fine! I want my friends to be fine! I want all to be good!” That’s Aurora! What a good girl! The only thing that takes the wholesome feeling away is the screen showing the Dewitts as a proud-looking crowd around Aurora and you, while you’re carrying her around.

“Uh… I wonder why I’m doing that.” Is she that heavy that nobody else can do it? Makes sense to you!

“Yeah, I don’t know what happened last time. I felt the love in this one.” Xavi doesn’t get it.

“Maybe familial love is more potent?” You don’t know why, but it feels that way.

“You say you felt sad, right?” Xavi wants to figure this puzzle out.

“Yeah, I did.” How could you not?

“Oh, Naiad explained to me that loneliness doesn’t emanate an emotion. Loneliness creates apathy.” Xavi gives a poor explanation.

“What does that really mean?”

“That I need more training.” Xavi looks down.

“More training? Do you mean you can do more than this?” You hypothesize. It never sank in until now how much he can do with this ability.

“No, this is close to Naiad’s full potential. It was more in the sense of developing my understanding of others’ feelings.” Xavi fussed.

“I was about to say, it’s incredible what this ability can do, I would imagine this requires an incredible amount of energy to do – but it doesn’t seem to take a toll on you at all. I get a headache after a while with mine.” When you use it to its full capacity, if you can call it that.

“According to Naiad, the feys are extremely energy efficient and they take it very seriously. They take only what they need and they make it count. That’s nature’s way and their way of life; they’re keen to keep that balance.” Xavi reports.

“Didn’t she just make a show for us before we got here…?” You have some doubts about that.
>>

“That was extremely important to her. I don’t think it’s a surprise that fairies are quite eccentric.” Xavi puts it simple.

“That would explain why your flame is so little, and why you don’t seem affected by all this.” You’re still surprised.

“Yeah, Naiad barely borrows any energy from me. And I’ve never been exhausted using this ability. Now that you say it, it’s quite amazing.” Xavi just realizes his power was better than he thought.

You can see a pompous Naiad loving all this praise.

“Partner, I believe it would be a good idea if she somehow can pass on that knowledge to us. Maybe we can get rid of those pesky headaches. We could roam freely with our power activated.” Philonune is interested in fairy technology. Can you call it that? Fairy technology? Or just Fairy Magic?

“Can she teach that fairy efficiency to someone else?” You wonder. Maybe it’s all fairy magic or some other bullcrap because none of this makes any sense. “I don’t need to remind you our partner’s abilities are constrained by our body’s energy limits. Or some shit like that…”

“I don’t know… and Naiad doesn’t know either. Maybe it’s something we can investigate.” Xavi is looking forward to helping. “But I wouldn’t have high hopes, Naiad believes for something like that to happen, we would need to change the very nature of what your partner is and can do.”

“Huh, worth a try anyway.” You will still leave him with the task. “I found another star.” It’s a darkish star, it has some traces of yellow but they are as faint as your hopes for a sequel for one of your favorite games that no one seems to remember anymore...

“Pick it up!” Xavi looks in high spirits now. You grab the dark star underneath and let a new sequence begin…

A shadowy figure emerges that reveals itself as Ammirati, the leader of the cult.

“It goes against everything I really want, everything I’ve worked for. But there is nothing in this world that could make me happier than choking him to death.” T-That’s Valdemar, the guy who you just beat recently!

“W-What?!” You’re confused as fuck.

“Huh, third wish we found that wants someone dead.” Xavi is not impressed.

“D-Don’t tell me you don’t know these people…” You’re in shock at Xavi’s indifference. He worked for them!

“Oh yeah, it was the Final Emir and Valdemar.” Xavi responds nonchalantly. “I saw it before.”

“Oh that explains it.” That doesn’t explain shit! Why is Xavi so calm?!

“You still look concerned.” Xavi is worried.

“Hey, it’s my turn to find something really odd about you.” You defend your uneasiness.

“It’s rumored that nobody in the higher command of the cult likes Ammirati on a personal level.” Xavi explains briefly.

“Huh, I didn’t know that. Why didn’t you tell me before?” Must suck having your chosen one be a dick.

“I thought you already knew, with you searching information about the cult and all, you could easily find the rumors online.” Xavi doesn’t take this seriously. “It is still just a rumor.”

“Your ability pretty much confirmed it.” You throw a compliment.

“I guess so. Chancellor Valdemar never looked like the friendly type anyway.” Xavi brings up a good point, maybe it’s only Valdemar – he looks like a no nonsense kind of guy, while Ammirati is pretty much the opposite.

“Talking about your ability, the powder Naiad throws, what does it exactly do?”

“I don’t follow.” Xavi has no idea how he got in here.

“Right, you don’t know what happens while this is going on.”

“I always take it as we go into a trance of some kind, am I wrong?” Xavi just assumed what happened. “Naiad refuses to tell me. She actually wants me to believe we teleported here.”

“It’s pretty much what I saw if I’m honest. Is Naiad getting mad at me for telling you?”

“She was getting worried until you said that.” Xavi chuckles.

“Then I’ll refrain from talking about it.” You don’t want Naiad to be mad at you. “But I want to talk about, it’s this one star…” You hunch down.

“It’s broken.” Xavi notices immediately. “Please continue.”

“Here we go…” You grab the broken star…!

The screen shows someone you think you forgot about until now…

“I really wish I was brave enough to stop the others from bullying him; and I wanted to apologize for everything I’ve done.” It’s your not-so-good friend Wilvy, the one who exploded at the Pitfall Arcade months ago. So he always felt guilty about being mean to you…?

“That’s all in the past, man.” You reassure mentally to Wilvy. He was the nicest of three, and sometimes you played games at the arcade when the other 2 were gone.

“Too little, too late. But he had good intentions. May he rest in peace.” Xavi has no sympathy for Wilvy.

“He died regretting that, give him a break.” You try to be fair.

“Yeah, my bad. But I wonder, is there something you regret doing?” Xavi is trying to delve into your train of thought.

“I could do a video montage.” You shake your head. Blake’s accident, Neko’s stabbing and Bradford Sr.’s demise, broken promises, Osgood’s death, and many more…

“S-Sorry about that...” Xavi pats your back. It feels good.

“And you? Any big regrets?” You believe it’s his turn to open up.

“Regrets? Many. Big ones? A couple.” Xavi looks at Naiad. “I told you that I tried to fulfill some wishes. You think that a lonely person whose only wish is to have a friend wouldn’t also be the kind of person who would try to throw a shoe at someone just for saying ‘Hi‘?. Who throws shoes anyway? They’re expensive…”

“Indeed they are, but I’m having a hard time believing someone would do that unprovoked.” You’ve met a bunch of hostile people during these trying times.

“I thought the same, maybe I lacked the tact, the place wasn’t right or I somehow did something to upset them. So with the next person I came up with a better approach, and it went way better – you know, despite the bar being set so low.” Xavi looks dejected. “But yeah, they say they want a friend! But what they really want is their ideal image of a friend, not you. People just don’t open up to boring strangers, it’s not like in TV or a game where it just happens. You sometimes forget that it’s a wish, impossible to obtain.”

“You sure you didn’t give up on them too early? Ignoring the sunken cost fallacy and all that.” You don’t give up on people easily. But that’s just you! And you don’t know how effective that really is…

“It’s interesting you point that out because there were some instances where I decided to stop helping some people because they were downright awful. What’s the point in helping those people knowing I can use my time for others?” Xavi, despite his reassuring words, looks guilty. “But I haven’t given up yet…”

“The more I listen to you, the more I wonder why the fuck you joined the cult.”

“I reached a point where I wondered if we’d be better off just starting over instead of swimming against the current...” Xavi is discouraged in general. “Did you find a star?”

“Yeah, this one.” There is an orange star that got your attention, it’s not as orange as some you’ve seen – a little close to the regular yellow. “I’m grabbing it…”

“I want to fix the goddamn law in this shithole country.” That’s your new classmate, Gwendoline something! That was rather tame.

“Go for it!” You barely know her, but whatever!

“It seems that there are still people willing to swim against the current, eh?” You elbow Xavi to drive your point further.

“Gives one hope, right? You really know a lot of nice people for the most part. Assuming, again, these are people you know.” Xavi smiles. Everything that has happened is leaving him with a sweet taste in his mouth.

“Did Scarlet not find nice wishes?” You’re a lil’ bit worried. You know very few of Scarlet’s friends.

“You’ll have to ask her yourself, Naiad almost bit my ear for telling you how many stars Scarlet touched.” Xavi and Naiad have a strange relationship going.

“Now that I think about it, a considerable amount of wishes weren’t exactly positive. I would say the balance puts it more or less even.” You haven’t exactly counted them.

“That's a better balance than I ever had.” Xavi looks disinterested. Pretty dull to talk about stuff like that.

“Makes me wonder, while I’m here, you can also touch the stars and the same thing will happen, right?” You’re a little bit confused.

“As a tour guide I’m not permitted. And I really don’t want to get Naiad upset. The same way I don’t want you to be upset either, I want you to have a good time here – I feel like it’s the least I can do for you.”

“You don’t owe me anything.”

“So? Is it bad that I want a friend to have a good time?” Xavi says it so casually that it takes you aback.

“Friend, huh? Well, is there any star you want me to grab?” You change topics.

“Yeah, that one.” Xavi points to a star close to the same color as Gwen’s (You’re calling her that from now on.)

“Alright. Is there any reason in particular?” You want to know his thought process.

“You’ll see once you grab it.” Xavi acts mysterious.

“I’m going to do it just because you asked me to, not because I’m really curious.” You glare at Xavi as you approach the star, he finds it funny. Another screen appears:

“I want to know who the fuck decided to bring interdimensional demons to this world, so I can punch him on the goddamn face.” That’s Dudley.

“Same.” You’ll have to punch almost all the entities though.

“Weren’t the entities the ones who decided to come here?” Xavi remembers the source of all evil.

“If you believe them.” You raise some doubts.

“Why would they lie to us?” Xavi stares at Naiad, who completely refutes these claims.

“I’m just sayin’. Besides, Naiad and Philonune aren’t exactly the big boys there, I’m sure they didn’t decide on where to fight.” You look at your partner as he grins like he always does.

“Right.” Xavi smiles at his fairy companion.

"So from what I heard, this whole war happened a long time ago too, and that was when the Creator supposedly won his position. What do you think must have happened back then? Did people fight more out in the open than now?" You want to know if Xavi knows something else.

“…Who’s the creator?” Xavi looks puzzled.

“Y-You don’t know?” It’s been a while since you met someone who didn’t.

“S-Should I?” Xavi is feeling anxious.

“Did Naiad explain to you what’s going on?”

“Of course she did, she’s open about everything but the tricks she pulls. I attended the meetings with the Judges as well and I don’t remember anything about a creator of sorts.” Xavi wants to know more. “This is a tournament to decide who will rule the world where these entities come from. Naiad just came here to explore a new world. I never actually worried about the war itself until recently…”

“O-Oh, I see. But we talked about my partner Philonune being a fallen angel, remember?”

“S-So? How would I know that it’s related to this ‘creator’? Saying he’s a fallen angel is no different than Naiad telling me she’s a fairy, it doesn’t really tell much of a story…” Xavi brings up a good point.

“Maybe I should give you a briefing of what’s going on…” You never thought about finding a flame user who’s completely clueless about the actual context of the war.

“That’s a great idea.” Xavi sits down and prepares to listen, then quickly stands up. “B-But Naiad doesn’t want us to talk about this here….”

“I would argue with the time passing being all funky that this is the perfect place, but it’s fine. If we’re lucky, you won’t be the only person that needs this briefing.” Maybe both he and Aurora will if she ends up joining the team.

“Oh right! We have a lot of people prepared to help out.” Xavi completely forgot. “Speaking of people, you find a star?”

“Yep, this one here!” A boring yellow star next to your feet. You crouch down to grab it!

The light emanates from the star and the screen displays a young guy close to your age, you’ve never seen him before – why is he not distorted like the others?!

Leave.” That’s all the stoic guy has to say! I-Is he looking at you?! The screening ends immediately.

W-What the hell?” Xavi has never seen something like that before.

“That’s not normal, right?” You try to play it cool.

Naiad rushes out of her spot behind Xavi, and uses her ship to take the star from your hands – and flies back.

“N-Naiad apologizes, she said we encountered some kind of error…” Xavi tries to laugh it off. “She’s telling me to move on.”

“B-But what happened?”

“That’s what she’s trying to find out. She says it has happened before, but the reasons may vary.” Xavi hastily explains. “Try grabbing another star, it will help us know what caused this.”

“Right. By the way, why did you ask me to pick that other star before?” You just remembered that Xavi asked you to grab Dudley’s.

“Which one?” Xavi forgot.

“The one before this one.”

“You mean the one before the one that Naiad took away?”

“Yes, that one.”

“Oh that one, I asked you to pick the one before this one because that one felt like the one to pick.” Xavi is toying with you. You glare at him. “Okay, okay… There was no reason.” Xavi looks away.

“I know what star I want to grab…” You look down to another yellow star.

“That one?” Xavi is having a laugh. You glare at him again, he just steps back and pretends that nothing is wrong.

You grab the one…

Ammirati appears to be sitting on a throne with poorly defined girls all around him, then the camera pans away…

I want to burn down floor 9 and 10… The filth he has in there is inexcusable.” That’s a girl’s voice! Maybe a cultist?!

“Huh… you should go for it.” You think that maybe she can kill Ammirati in the process!

“T-That’s Chancellor Vivienne!” Xavi reveals in shocking fashion!

“The girl with the freakish eyes?” You vaguely remember her.

“Yeah, that one!” Xavi nods. “Wait, freakish? I think they’re cute…” Xavi realizes what you just said.

“Do you think the place she was talking about is the Dark Church we’re going to?” You inquiry.

“Most likely, yeah. I mean, what else could it be? Those shadowy figures must be the slaves, and that’s the place we brought them.” Xavi justifies his answer.

“You clearly saw more than I have, so I just wanted to make sure we didn’t get the wrong idea.” You justify your questions.

“Right. I know it’s surprising to actually find useful information here.” Xavi looks content with this find.

“You know, I’m still hung up about you not knowing who the creator is.” You can’t hide it anymore.

“If it doesn’t interfere with our star hunt, you can talk as much as you want – I’m all ears. It’s no different than the little conversation we were having.” Xavi argues in a way that makes you feel like he’s talking more to Naiad than to you. The little fairy doesn’t respond in any form from what you see.

“I’ll go in-depth later, but for now I’ll tell you what I think you should know…”

You give him a rundown of the stakes for the war, and the major players involved. Well, that’s what you wanted to do, but you found a broken star that got your attention.

“Don’t mind me, just pick it up – I can wait to hear the rest of the story.” Xavi gives you a thumbs up despite being a little uneasy at the sight of the broken star.

“If you say so…” You pick up another wish that is never going to be fulfilled.

I-I d-don’t wanna die! I need to see my dad again, please! I don’t wanna die! I DON’T WANNA DIE!” A girl cries her heart out. You remember her face, but you don’t know from where.

“…I’m sorry.” You have no words.

“W-Why do you always grab the broken ones we find? They’re really depressing…” Xavi can’t contain his displeasure anymore.

“You were the one who told me it was destiny or some shit.” You shake your head.

“I’m asking you why, not to stop.” Xavi defends himself.

“So if I grab this one, you won’t complain?” You look at a new broken star close to the one you grabbed. Xavi is staring at you with an anxiousness that tells you ‘don’t you dare’. “You look like you want to…”

“I’m merely a tour guide.” Xavi takes no responsibility.

“You can look away too…” You crouch to get closer to the broken star.

“I can, but should I?” Xavi is getting pseudo-philosophical.

“Seriously, if it bothers you that much, I’m not grabbing them…” You don’t want to be a dick.

“It’s not that…” Xavi shakes his head. “Do what you have to do.”

“Fine…” You grab the broken star despite it not being something you need to do.

A shadowy group of 3 people appear, they are all hugging each other – they look like a family, a big guy, a wife and a child.

I want the very best for my family. Nothing more. Nothing less.” You feel the man’s kindness.

“Hopefully your family is doing well without you.” You try to give him good wishes. Heh, good wishes…

“Bittersweet land would be a more appropriate name for this place.” Xavi looks conflicted.

“I don’t know, these stars don’t taste like candy.” Not like you’ve tried to eat them…

“Can I be serious for a moment?” Xavi asks you before moving on.

“Yeah, sure.” You don’t know where this is going.

“You don’t look like you’re doing too hot, man.” Xavi shakes his head. “You need a break.”

“I’m fine.” You’re a little bit sad, but that’s it.

“Even Naiad agrees that you don’t look fine. C’mon, Scarlet got a break as well.” Xavi tries to make you feel like it’s no biggie. “Tell me what else I need to know, we can stop looking for stars for a couple of… err… what we consider minutes.”

“Yeah, I will. Let me sit down…” The emotional toll this is taking is too much, doesn’t help that you actually feel the emotions emanating from these screens.

Now you delve into the rundown of the war again. Once you finish, you don’t feel as exhausted as before. Just keeping your mouth moving is taking the weight off your mind, and that’s a wonderful thing. The only problem now is to know if your friend here understood everything you had to say…

“You have any questions?” You wonder.

“Not really, at least not anything I can think of right now.” Xavi acts casual. “I see you have your eyes on another star.”

“Huh, how did you notice?” You kept looking at that yellow star, it keeps moving closer…

“You’re not being subtle about it.” Xavi is not stupid. “You look much better, so if you want to…”

“I’ll do it.” You go and grab the yellow star.

4 shadowy figures appear, they all seem ready to fight each other. Then the camera shows another one, alone, playing with a coin in his hands…

I want those 4 to deal with each other, and then… I’ll kill the rest. Then I’ll finally be free! Hahahahaha!” The man throws the coin at them, amused.

“That can’t be good.” You just feel it!

“What’s up with everyone wanting to kill one another?” Xavi is kind of bored of those types of wishes.

“I just want to clarify that one was yellow and in no way related to me in any shape or form.” None of your friends have those kinds of wishes!

“That sounds suspicious.” Xavi strokes his little goatee.

“Yeah, I could’ve phrase it better.” You’ll admit.

“Yeah…” Xavi agrees. “W-Wait, that doesn’t change any—”

“Oh look, another star!” You interrupt Xavi to grab another star!

I’ll tame this foul beast that calls itself ‘the Creator’ and I’ll take over this and their world! I’ll put these embezzlements-on-our-thoughts where they belong, under my feet! It’s… Lloydington!

HAHAHAHA! What a foolish man!” Philonune finds this hilarious!

“T-That’s Lloydington!” Xavi saw him as well! “Now I’m definitely not voting for him!”

“You were going to…?” You raise your eyebrow.

“N-No…” Xavi pretends otherwise. “Anyway, didn’t you just tell me that he’s working with the white flames? What’s going on?”

“B-Beats me.” You have no idea what to make of it. “But now I’m worried...”

“Why would you even vote for that guy?” You’re not into politics one bit, but everything you’ve seen of the guy is plain terrible.

“To set a precedent? Maybe we can have regular elections with a new president.” Now that’s wishful thinking on Xavi’s part. Fitting for the setting though.

“That’s a good point.” Despite your apprehensions, he brings a take you didn’t think about before. You’ll be old enough to legally vote by the time the ballots open up. If the elections were held as originally planned anyway. Maybe you could still vote, but when was your birthday again? You always forget, you haven't celebrated it at all since your mom was gone..

You’re in an interdimensional war! Who cares about politics?!

“All I can think of now is that if the president, his adversary, the cult and that millionaire all know about the flames – what can we really do? We’re nothing compared to them.” Xavi looks down.

“Minutes ago, you had your chin up thinking about all we could accomplish together, don’t flip flop so easily – you have to believe in yourself.” You try to cheer him up.

“How can you tell when having hope is only making the struggle more agonizing? When do you think it’s too naïve to keep trying?” That's a somber question if you’ve ever heard one.

“I don’t know? Maybe when there’s no hope left.”

“So when it’s too late?”

“Sunken cost fallacy, Xavi. You’ll have to use your brain to see it yourself.” You shrug.

“You’ve said it twice, but I don’t think you know what that means.” Xavi shakes his head. Oh god, he’s calling you out.

“L-Look, a star…” You grab the orange star next to your feet like the fraud you are. It’s redder than most oranges you’ve found so far!

A couple of shadowy individuals appear on screen and someone who you know well is standing in the middle of them, they all point at her…

I know I made mistakes, I regret every single one of them so much, I just couldn’t do more… please… Forgive me! I just want you all to forgive me!” It’s Nurse Kata crying her heart out.

“Kata…” You had no idea she felt this way.

“That’s a strong feeling of regret.” Xavi is experienced in the matter.

“I’ve never seen her like that…” You’re taken aback.

“Whoever that was may need a hug. But you know how much I know about them…” Xavi tries to joke a little. “That really took you off-guard.” Xavi realizes his joke fell flat.

“I thought she wasn’t like this, like a lot tougher… That’s not the word I’m looking for, but you know, dependable people who never seem to break.” You try to put it into words. “Has something similar happened to you?”

“Yeah, with you.” Xavi slaps you on the back. Did he really think that highly of you or is he joking? He could be joking. “That’s not bad by the way.”

“It is a sign you know that person better, but…” You look down.

“You don’t feel like you earned it?” Xavi sounds so strangely wise right now…

“Exactly.” You point at him. Maybe Matilda’s wish made you feel something similar, but you somehow expected it, but this one…

“It’s an occupational hazard. In my experience, it never sits well with you. And in Naiad’s experience, that’s a good sign.” Xavi doesn’t have the answers you want. “Found another star?”

“Not yet…” You hurriedly look around and find an orange star that’s a little too much to be considered so, but you would call it orange anyway in the context of Dream Hill. “Now I did, let’s see what this one has.” You grab this orange one.

I wish people’s words didn’t bother me much! I’m tired of crying all the time like a big loser!” Giorsal wishes while embarrassed of herself. “Also, I don’t want the world to go boom.

“…” You really want to laugh, you’re a complete asshole!

“And that’s the leader of the Judges? That’s pathetic…” Xavi doesn’t hold back.

“I wonder if I sound like that.” You mutter to yourself. Maybe you’re an idiot?

What?” Xavi didn’t hear you well.

“N-Nothing…” You look around for a new star…

“Whatever…” Xavi doesn’t give enough of a fuck to pursue the answers he wants. “Did you find a star?”

“Patience, Xavi. I’m looking around as fast as I can…” You don’t even know what color to pick this time.

“No rush.” The ex-cultist looks up, wondering why he’s here.

“Found one!” You exclaim all excited as you find a red star.

“Let’s see what it's got for us!” Xavi tries to feign excitement. He does it well, if you’re being honest.

“Yeah!” You grab it!

You see yourself in an incredibly poorly defined outfit running around like some cool ass ninja on some poorly defined buildings, with a homely girl trailing behind as stylishly as you. The camera gets closer to her…

I want to be out there too! Helping him as much as I can! I know we can do this together!” Woah, Scarlet is really a positive girl...

“I-I can’t do that shit, Scarlet…! T-The fuck?!” You know that she can’t hear you, or that it isn’t the point. But you need to say it! Is this how she thinks things work?! You can’t just become a ninja out of nowhere!

“I love the look on your face.” Xavi finds it funny.

W-Why?” You regain your composure by losing it again.

“You look like the expectations are too high to reach.” Xavi is making fun of you.

“T-That’s not it…” You deny these claims. “Wait, you look like you’ve seen it before!” Did Scarlet show him her star?!

“I’m legally binded not to answer that question.” He looks away at Naiad, who plays dumb as well.

“That’s a coward's yes!” You won’t be fooled.

“I-I mean, I’m sure she doesn’t want exactly that! Just to feel like that!” Xavi raises his hands like showing you he has nothing to hide.

“Ugh…” You feel stressed out, you really do wonder what goes through her head sometimes... “I’m going to grab another star…”

“You seem fine doing all that crazy stuff until someone expects something out of you, what gives?” Xavi doesn’t get it.

“I… don’t know.” Is that a thing? You don’t think that’s a thing. “I just don’t want to disappoint her.”

“She’s a positive girl, she probably won’t be.” Xavi attempts to cheer you up.

“That sounds like something she would say.” You don’t know how to feel. “I found another star.” It’s not as red as Scarlet’s, but it’s pretty close!

“Go for it.” Xavi pats you on the back.

I want to feel fine, and throw a party for everyone who made it possible! I just want to show them how thankful I am for not abandoning me!” That’s Ajna… and she sounds completely normal! No fidgeting either!

“I believe in you, Ajna!” You throw her some good vibes.

“That helped you calm down.” Xavi notices.

“It did, but, I mean, it still hasn’t happened yet.” You just saw a little taste of what could be.

“You still need some positive vibes, heh?” The depressed Xavi grins like a twat.

“You only said that so we could go back to our last topic, right?” You raise an eyebrow. Xavi plays dumb. Twat.

“Kinda, there is something I enjoy about seeing you all discombobulated like that.” Xavi is having the time of his life.

“I thought we were friends…” You can’t believe he’s treating you this way, using big words you don’t know but can infer the meaning of through context...

“You’re skipping too many steps to get to this point.” Xavi isn’t buying your stupid answer.

“No, I’m not. Just like how I’m not skipping this star right below us.” You pretend to be offended.

“Nice segway.” Xavi responds sarcastically. Is being able to be mean to each other a sign of you two becoming friends? It is, but you’re usually on the offensive…

I don’t know who these ghosts think they are, but right now I don’t want any of them coming over to my world anymore! Once I close the door, I’ll get rid of the ones left – then the rest of the world will be at my mercy! I’ll do whatever I want, haha!” A despicable woman cackles. “Also, I want a haircut!

“Huh, another person to stop… Great.” You don’t know who that is, but you’re going to shut her down hard! Eventually! Not the haircut! You don’t care about that.

“Do you happen to know everyone who has a flame or is this just a big coincidence?” Xavi is starting to have doubts.

“Coincidence. It was a yellow star.” You come clean.

“At the very beginning, when I got Naiad, it was so easy for me to find wishes like that – from other flame users. Then slowly all of those stars started to break…” Xavi bitterly reminisces. “It was the first signal that I definitely didn’t want to mess with the wrong people.”

“Yet, you still joined the cult…” You just don’t get it!

“That took a while to happen, pal...” Xavi sighs loudly after.

“I need to stop giving you shit about that.” You say apologetically.

“I want to think that after helping you out, I won’t feel as guilty. But who knows? Maybe I don’t deserve to feel better.” Xavi looks down. “My mind does whatever it wants anyway.”

“If that doesn’t help out, maybe it’s not guilt that’s holding you down.”

“W-What do you mean?” Xavi is eager to hear what you have to say.

“That’s something for you to find.” You cop out.

“It’s never that easy…” Xavi looks so deflated. “Did you find another star?”

“O-Of course I did.” You grab the first one you find, it’s yellow as well! W-Wait, there’s something off about it!

I want… I want to know the reason why I always end up alone. Why do they leave? Why do they take them away from me? Why do they backstab me? Why does this keep happening? I want answers… Give them to me.” This girl’s voice sounds apathetic.

“I can think of a reason or two.” Just listening to her gives you the creeps. You’re starting to sound like a dick so maybe you should tone it down, they seem to be having a tough time with their own troubles and all… but something about them just sounds so spooky.

“Wait, this star is…” You look at the star you were holding thoroughly.

“it’s broken… But it’s shining too.” Xavi doesn’t get it. Naiad doesn’t get it either so she grabs the star from the ground in the same way she took the other one that was faulty. “Naiad is going to take a look.”

“Right…”

“Believe me, it’s normal that unusual events happen here. It’s part of the magic.” Xavi tries to salvage the situation.

“You know what… I believe you completely.” You have no reason to think you’re in any way special.

“Naiad is not going to like it, but I’ll say this anyway, something strange has happened every time we bring someone over here.” Xavi still tries to convince you that this is fine.

“I wasn’t being sarcastic.” You want him to relax.

“I know, but it’s important to me to say that even if you think you’re just a regular Joe, this place will bring something different whether you like it or not.” Xavi misses the point of what you’re saying. “It would be special if nothing special happens.”

“Duly noted.” You start nodding. “Maybe this little detail will help me one day.”

“Huh, I’d like to see the day that happens.” Xavi is not too optimistic about it.

“I found the next star.” You see a dim lighted yellow star that you basically consider a dark one a couple of inches away.

“Then let’s see what it has.” Xavi is decently entertained by the prospect. You grab the star and let the show commence…

I want everything ready quickly so I can finally backstab this fucker.” Not even the bald guy Foroutan likes Bernie!

“Yeah, that ain’t gonna happen, for better or worse.” You unknowingly put a stop to all that.

“Hmph… the rumors were really all true.” Xavi isn’t surprised.

“I think the backstabbing is the important part here.” Perhaps he could be of help.

“I wouldn’t read much into it. I don’t think Chancellor Foroutan is a secret good guy, he was probably thinking of taking over the cult officially – he was behind everything.” Xavi analyzes.

“Why does everyone want Ammirati out? Isn’t he the one holding the power of Chernobog? And like, their leader?” You’re confused.

“Don’t quote me on this, but I think the cult’s real plan is to summon Chernobog to this world.” Xavi still has some doubts.

“It isn’t here?! Why didn’t you say so before?!” You’re in shock.

“Listen, it’s just a theory, I don’t have proof – this kind of information never got out to peeps like me; I was almost at the bottom of the food chain, man. I didn’t want to feed fake info to you, afraid that if it somehow didn’t match what you knew, you would’ve done something to me. But now that I really trust you, I can just speak my mind. I think Ammirati is key to summoning Chernobog somehow and that’s why they can’t kill him just yet.” Xavi poorly explains.

“You’ll have to expand on that.”

“I can’t, I just don’t know. It’s all speculation. Sorry.” Xavi deflates.

“It’s fine…” You got really excited for nothing. “I found another star.” This one is pretty close in color to the last one.

“Play it.” Xavi is ready to watch. You grab your enemy’s star.

You see your own mother walking away, then the darkness consumes her…

I want to go back to the past… Make up for what I did… Ema… Please come back…” It’s your step dad Joel…

Fuck off.” You have no other words.

“Too little, too late.” You mutter to yourself.

“Woah, I said the same thing and you made fun of me.” Xavi feels duped.

“It’s different.” You really don’t want to talk about this.

“How so?”

I know what he did.” You look back at Xavi.

“Wanna talk about it?” Xavi looks worried for you.

“…It’s a fucked up story.” You prepare him for what’s coming.

“Well…” You look down, you’re not even sure if you want to talk about it. “To hell with it, let’s talk about it. Why not?” It’s not like this is a first for you.

“I’m listening.” Xavi is ready.

You begin telling the tale of the failure of a man that is Joel Tomah, how his actions destroyed your family and how his ineptitude left him all alone in the end. The man willing to put you down like an animal for money because you were nothing but an annoyance to him. The man you considered your own father.

“That is fucked up and stupid. I’ve never heard something like that before in my life and I’m honestly having problems believing it.” Xavi looks outraged and confused. “Seriously, what kind of plan even is that? I don’t get it.”

“Sometimes I wonder if I deserved it.”

“What? Why?” Xavi sure is surprised.

“He raised me from birth, hugged me when I was scared, knew me for who I truly was and…” You gently kick a rock next to your feet. “…he never saw any worth in me.” It cut you deeper than any knife could.

“Oh…” Xavi doesn’t know what to say.

“It wasn’t a lie to me, I really thought he cared for me – he was my dad... How come he didn’t want me, man?” The sky doesn’t have the answers you want, but it’s a pretty sight. “He wasn’t the only one. Nobody did. My other dad thought of me as an eyesore, everyone in school would’ve preferred if I was gone, and I had no skills whatsoever. If Amelia wasn’t around, I probably would’ve…” You stop talking.

“So how does it feel?” Xavi asks a weird question to break the long silence.

“How does what feel?” You’re confused.

“To prove them wrong.” Xavi is barely able to put his hand on your shoulder. You appreciate the attempt though.

“I don’t think that’s true…” You look away. You’ve never been the kind of guy to do stuff like that, you’re just doing your best. You see a broken star…

“Well, I do.” Xavi smiles.

“…I found a star.” You feel a little embarrassed, you need to change topics.

“What are we waiting for?” Xavi is ready for another show. You grab the broken star…

Please, for the love of god, I don’t care if I live or not! Constance must survive!” That’s Bradford! He has the Poker belt on his shoulder! Right, he died without knowing what happened after. “Also please, someone delete the pics on my camera! So you can all remember me for the good deeds I did!

“I’ll see what I can do.” Nothing came out of those anyway, so it’s fine, right? “Wait, what do you have on that camera?!”

“Huuh, Constance is the kid judge you mentioned, right?” Xavi wants to know. “So this guy must’ve been…”

“Yeah, this star was one of my friends.” You never thought you would hear his voice again. “And I let that happen to him…”

“I’m sorry.” Xavi doesn’t know what to say. Again.

“His sacrifice wasn’t in vain. I hope he’s resting well wherever he is. His legacy will live on through a fat cat.” You look up.

“Yeah… Sorry, what?” Xavi just realized that what you said made no sense.

“It’s too complicated.” You put an eye on another star. “I want to pick that star!” You rush for the broken one.

I want to make the sickest horror movie ever!” That’s Osgood. W-Wait, his wish is not related to Ruby whatsoever?!

“Dude, priorities!” You’re let down yet again.

Sike! I still wanna make the movie, but I want my friends to win this fuckin’ war – I know you can do it without me!” Osgood is having a laugh! “Also, tell Ruby I love her!

“Huh?!” It’s like he was talking to you at the end there!

W-What?” You’re in shock.

“What’s wrong?” Xavi doesn’t get it. “He wanted his friends to win the war, and we know which war he’s talking about, so...”

“B-But the last thing he said…”

“What last thing? He only said that.” Xavi doesn’t get it. Maybe you’re having hallucinations…

“Can you feel light headed in this place?” You wonder if you’re feeling tired or something.

“Naiad says it shouldn’t be possible, fairy magic helps heal your body.” Xavi reveals. The more you hear about Naiad’s abilities, the more that you think she’s overpowered.

“So I should be better than fine?” You want some clarification.

“Yeah, I have no reason to believe otherwise.” Xavi gives you his word.

“I wonder what happened then…” Yeah, it must’ve been a hallucination of sorts.

“So… ready for the next star?” Xavi wants to move on.

“Uuuuh, yeah, I guess I found one.” You take the first yellow star nearby and let the sequence begin…

I just want to be left alone...” A monotonous girl exclaims with angst.

“Being alone ain’t that great…” Your own life says so.

“T-That’s YUNG-P!” Xavi exclaims, all surprised.

“You met her?” You raise an eyebrow.

“She gave us a free concert once.” Xavi happily remembers. “For cult members, I mean. Supposedly, Ammirati paid for it.”

“That’s horseshit, I know for sure that she works for the cult.” You just want to make sure Xavi knows as you feel that you didn’t mention it before.

“Why would she want the world to end…?” Xavi doesn’t get it.

“Taking into account what we just heard, maybe she isn’t a happy bunny.” You shrug. “You like her music?”

“Y-Yeah…” Xavi begrudgingly admits it. “I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it has its ups.” Xavi feels like a music expert.

“I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a song from her.” You shrug, and before Xavi could tell you her best singles, you grab another yellow star down below…

I will… hhh… take back… hh… what’s rightfully mine.” The voice of a broken old man proclaims with anger, it is slowly sounding clearer as he goes. “And those… who betrayed me… hh… I’ll cut their mothers throats... Burn their children… and feed them their ashes. HahAHhAha…!

“Okay, grandpa.” Like he can do anything!

“Oh geez, what a guy.” You joke.

“W-Who do you think that was…?” Xavi wonders. He was pretty sharp about this before…

“Gordon Sr.?” You think it’s obvious.

“…I forget he exists sometimes.” Xavi nervously chuckles.

“He’s one of the Judges, right? Last I remember hearing of him was back when the Hosts of Rebellion were a thing. His private army or whatever he has kept moving him from place to place.” If your memory serves you right.

“Wasn’t that the national guard or something? I know he’s very protected for being the ex-head of state.” Xavi recalls. “I always found it odd that we were taught in school about how brutal and tyrannical his regime was. He’s the president’s father! Like, if I were Jr., I would either pretend that nothing happened or glorify what my father did. No matter what you want people to think, they will always link these two together. But I guess with free speech and press, there’s no point in hiding it…”

“Yeah, that does sound odd. I suppose he wanted to distance himself as far away from his dad?” You haven’t put much thought into this, but this sounds reasonable enough, right?

“Dude, his name is Lazarus Don Gordon Junior, what’s the point? You can’t fool anyone.” Xavi strokes his goatee.

“I guess the only way to know is to ask the guy.” You shrug. “I found a star, by the way.” You grab the orange star just right below, it’s redder than the other oranges you found…

I want all of my children to have happy and fulfilling lives.” What a wholesome wish from Holly.

“Damn, right in the feels.” Xavi puts his hand over his heart. “Whoever that was, isn’t that the first person with that type of wish we’ve seen today.”

“We have so many people to help, and so little time…” Those poor Dewitts…

“One at the time or else we’ll go mad.” Xavi shrugs.

“Right…” You cannot help but to nod at his assertion. It’s kinda stupid that you’re wasting your time here instead of helping, but you’re learning so much here. “I found another star.” It’s a simple, completely orange star this time. Xavi tells you to go ahead with his hands. You grab it…

Right now, I need to save her. I still don’t get how she gets into so much trouble…” That’s B-WORM! He’s looking at the shadow of someone else, and he’s tired of it. “I’m going to scold her so much this time around…

“We’ll find her, don’t worry!” You mentally promise.

“Did he lose his dog or something?” Insensitive Xavi is back.

“That’s a person, Xavi.”

“The shadow didn’t make it look like it.” Xavi defends his position.

“Wait, we can distinguish people by their shadows?!” You’ve just been trying to identify them by their voices this whole time.

“I have a sharper eye for this. You’ve seen a couple of dozens, but I’ve seen close to thousands.”

“T-Thousands?!” You’re in shock.

“Did you feel a tingling sensation just now?” You felt something like a shiver down your spine.

“No. You’re not supposed to feel anything like that unless…” Xavi realizes something.

“Unless what?” You raise an eyebrow.

“I’m contractually obligated not to tell you.” Xavi replies in a monotonous voice.

“I can imagine what that means then.” It’s your star getting closer? Maybe you should look around for it instead? You ended up finding a red star, well, not completely red, but it’s that kind of orange that everyone confuses with red – you know the one. You’re not making this up, you swear.

“Are you going to grab that one or not…?” Xavi loses his patience.

“R-Right…” You grab it.

I wish he never became famous...” It’s Yukika holding international superstar: Chewirton, the talking dog!

“He ain’t that famous.” You dismiss the dog’s popularity.

“So a mother bothered that her son became too famous and can’t live a normal life anymore? Tragic.” Xavi strokes his goatee, all pensive.

“That’s not a kid, that’s a dog.” You correct him.

“…You serious?” Xavi doesn’t look pleased. “Like, you’re not making fun of me for earlier or anything?”

“No, I’m telling the truth. That’s someone I know.” You shake your head. Wait, Yukika is near red? So you two are pretty close still, it seems? So it wasn’t just a one night stand after all, huh…

“How did a dog become so famous that it bothers her that much?” Xavi walks away. You wanted to argue, but you’re not sure if you want to reveal Yukika’s identity for something so minor. Maybe you’ll tell him later though.

“I found another star.” You shift directions to another star!

I wish there was a way I could share with mom all the experiences I had, all the friends I made – and all the fun we’re going to have!” That’s Amelia… She’s with mom, you, Nariko, Yu Yan and the rest!

“I wish that too…” It certainly looks nice to you.

“Is that your sister?” Xavi asks you immediately.

“H-How did you know?” You’re taken by surprise.

“You put your hand over the monitor with a longing expression on your face. Also, you told me about your mom.” Xavi answers like this is some kind of test.

“O-Oh…” You regain your composure in a second because you’re just that cool.

“Hahaha, it’s okay, man.” Xavi found your reaction funny again.

“I-I know… It’s just that… Errr… I saw another star!” Coincidently, You found yet another red star! It feels like there are too many but that’s a good thing, right? You run up and grab it!

After all is said and done, after we miraculously protect our world – after we make a difference. I want… I want to spend the rest of my life with him!” Nina’s wish is to be with… you?

“That… that sounds nice.” You scratch your cheek.

“Can I ask you something?” Xavi isn’t impressed.

“W-What is it?” You cough loudly, despite the fact you couldn’t possibly cough in this place…

“That’s not the homegirl.” Xavi is judging you. “But I saw you in there.”

“That’s not a question.”

“So tell me…” Xavi is glaring at you.

“Tell you what? They are just very friendly people, that’s all.” Yeah, nice!

“If you say so…” Xavi looks disappointed. “I’m not judging.”

“I think you are.”

“Yeah, I probably am.” Xavi doesn’t hide it. “Did you know about this?”

“Kinda, but not really? I’m stupid. Like, really stupid.” You’re totally honest.

“…Just be careful.” Xavi walks away, amused with all of this.

“I saw another star!” You run past him as you see a red star! You grab it…

I want to keep doing this FOREVER! It never gets any less fun! I wish that my hands never fail me! HAHAHA!” That’s an old man’s voice…? What? He looks shadowy! What’s going on?!

“EH?! Who are you?!” You don’t understand! Who is this man?!

“What? Who’s that?” You display your confusion.

“Why does it matter? Isn’t it just a yellow?”

“It’s red! Dead red! I’ve never seen this person before, it was all distorted.” You calm down as you continue talking.

“I-Is that even possible…?” Xavi is really damn confused. “Like always, Naiad says it's happened before, it only means that you don’t remember this guy in the slightest or you’ve never seen him in person. We’ve both seen the president on TV, but we saw it all shadowy here, for example.”

“B-But who is it? How can it be red if I don’t know him?”

“I don’t know, but you should calm down.”

“B-But…”

“There isn’t anything else we can do, you know…?” Xavi laments.

“You’re right…” You don’t even know why you got yourself all worked up.

…The tingling sensation from before intensifies.

“It’s back.” You feel it.

“What is it…?” Xavi is worried.

“The tingling sensation.” You remind him.

“You know what I said last time…” Xavi doesn’t look amused.

“I just wanted you to know.” You exclaim as you keep searching around for the perfect star. “Maybe I’m going to have a heart attack and I need you to stay alert.”

“Probably not.”

Probably…?” You turn your head to Xavi.

“It’s a joke.” Xavi smirks. You don’t like that one bit.

“Ehem, I selected a new star. Let’s see what this one has in store for us.” You grab the yellow star from the ground! What deep secrets will it hold?!

I have plenty of goals, but nothing would feel more satisfying than to live in a world where we humans can leave our petty differences aside and strive for a wonderful future together, doing everything in our capabilities to acquire progress and enrichment for our own self and society. Let’s all do our best together, shall we?” The eloquent woman desires.

“You said it!” You agree completely.

But perhaps, I will be more than happy to welcome some companionship, some… ‘friends’, right now.” Why did she sound so conniving there…?

“Huh, good luck with that!” Maybe you could be friends but that sounds difficult. You don’t know her and you two will most likely never run into each other again after all.

“Hey that’s the nice lady from the police office earlier!” You realize once the video is done.

“Who? What?” Xavi is confused.

“Someone who helped me get the van back. I remembered her voice!” You smile.

“How?” Xavi doesn’t get it. “You couldn’t recognize anyone like that except for her.”

“Because she was nice to me, few people are nice to me.” And you remember them all!

“Dude, that’s, like, absolutely not true. What are you talking about?” Xavi believes that you said something so preposterous he was at a loss for words.

“Hey man, I’ve been treated like crap for years, I won’t get used to something so different in less than 2 months…”

“You… are right.” Xavi didn’t think of it that way. Nor did you, the excuse just came to you.

The tingling sensation intensifies even more! A star is shining brighter than the others! Is that… yours?

What do you do?

“Xavi, I think I saw my own star.” The star that’s shining brighter than all the others.

“Are you completely sure?” Uncharacteristically, Xavi grabs your arm before you move forward.

“Y-Yeah, what’s wrong…?” You’re worried. He’s never done this before!

“Once you touch it, it will be all over.” Xavi warns.

“That’s fine…” You didn’t expect to be here forever anyway.

“There are a couple of things I need to tell you before going forward.” Xavi starts scavenging through his pocket. “First, I’m not going to accompany you. It’s part of Naiad’s rules.”

“And second…?” Well, that makes it less embarrassing at least.

“Here…” Xavi takes a red star from out of his pocket. “It’s up to the tour guide if he wants the tourist to see his own star. And I want you to see mine.”

“That won’t be necessary.” You respectfully decline the offer. You don’t want him to feel obligated to do something like that.

“No, it is. I want you to know. I already know yours anyway, so it’s fair. Good luck, friend.” Xavi smiles as he puts his star on your hand. Then, he quickly walks away without looking back.

Some days I feel I’m close to knowing the answer, other days I feel completely lost. All I want to know is what makes life worthwhile. That’s it.” TV Xavi speaks like he’s doing a conference.

“Do we really need an answer…?” You don’t feel like you do. Maybe that’s the answer and since you already have it, it doesn’t feel necessary?! Who knows!

You realize that you were actually left all alone, all the other stars are moving away from you, giving you a clear signal of what do you need to do – it almost feels like a path just opened. You decide to walk towards your own star. As you continue to move forward, the terrain starts to change, making a stairway to a little shrine, the place you feel your star is. None of this felt unnatural to your feet, it’s just like moving forward. Heh, Xavi wasn’t kidding when he said Naiad was theatric. As you traverse the unnecessarily convoluted path that’s technically not that convoluted you call out to Xavi and Naiad to no response. You’re here on your own, or at least, they sure make you feel like it.

“Not completely alone, partner. I’m here with you.” Philonune makes his presence known. That’s right, no matter how alone you may feel you always know that you have him by your side.

And there it is, in a little podium of sorts, your star. You now know why they said that you’re going to know what star is yours, just look at it! It makes you feel stupid…

You grab your own star.

I’ll always do my best, no matter what happens – that’s my promise. But I want my best to be good enough to see this through ‘till the very end. I want to save the world, I want to help my friends, I want… I want to be happy!” Holy fuck is that you?! That’s so fucking corny you want to die! Someone delete this! No! NO!

“T-Turn it off! TURN IT OFF!” You’re so ashamed of yourself, what’s wrong with your voice?! You sound so lame! It’s supposed to sound deeper! No wonder you got bullied!

Scarlet is right, you’re a dork.

Out of the blue, you feel the same sensation you did when you got here, but instead of flying up – you’re falling down. But instead of actually floating, you’re sitting next to a white table; funnily enough, it feels like a meeting with Constance at the Distant Frontier.

Naiad appears from above and lands on the table. She struggles to come out of her ship but manages to get closer to you. You and Philonune look at each other for a second. She asks you to show her your hand and you comply, then she hugs it and leaves a copy of her fish hat on your pinky.

“Thank you!” Naiad finally speaks for the first time! She sounds adorable… She does a little gratitude dance. “Here, friend!” Naiad takes a red star from out of nowhere, and wants you to touch it. Another red star to add to the list that you’ll never get tired of seeing grow. You grab the small star and the final video of the evening starts playing.

I want all my friendships to last forever!” That’s Naiad wish! And she includes you in the list.

“Same.” You and Philonune smile at the little fairy. She gets a little embarrassed but looks very happy.

You then find yourself back in the shitty van.

“Woah, that didn’t take long!” Scarlet is surprised.

“For long were we out this time?” Xavi wonders.

“A couple of minutes.” Scarlet smiles.

You shake your head, then you realize… you still have the hat on your finger! Instinctively, you look at Scarlet, and she shows you the same hat on her pinky.

“I take it that you’re going to need a minute to get used to being back, huh?” Xavi wonders as he starts looking around the pilot seat.

“No, I think I’m fine… I’m ready to go.” You proclaim, more resolved than ever to see your mission through after all that. This experience is something you will never forget.

Sadly that’s all we have for this thread! I hope you had fun! See you next time!
