"All this time... you have existed here, biding your time and waiting to unleash your plan?"

"Yes. But with the coming ecliptic events, I must bring myself away from the shadows to reveal the cardinal truth to those worthy of hearing."

"...And you think me... worthy?"

"Worthy? You are far more than worthy my forlorn brother. You are a champion! A true paragon among mankind!"

"I had never thought of it... that way... I had known they are so explicitly intelligent... but that they actively seek our demise...?"

"My every word was true, champion. The Elder Dragons are responsible for man's fall from grace. These Black Dragons your family line has fought for so long in the land Schrade are the true enemies. They plan to soon converge onto the island in one last attempt to subvert man's glorious revival. They want nothing more than to set us back further, so our destruction will be all the more easy..."

"...But Ancient... I had fled to this continent so that I might escape the fate of my bloodline! I did not want to go down like my father, and his ancestors before him, fighting the accursed Black Dragons! I only wish to live my life as a Hunter, and to retire as a humbled man, the last of my family! I never wanted to be apart of these happenings... I wanted to escape them..."

"My brother, don't you see? Destiny cannot be defied, nor circumvented! You are chosen to be the one who finally ends it all! You can get what you want, and I can help you!"

"..."

"I can live in the end, as I want?"

"Yes. Together, we can put these troublesome tribulations to rest. The Black Dragons will be snuffed out at last, and mankind can stand tall over the Earth again. You can live and escape the fate you dread."

"But only if you help me."

"...I am enticed Ancient... but there are so many things you said that I cannot... cannot grasp..."

"You say Wyverians are cattle... yet they have been our companions for as long as..."

"...And what more, you tell me that the good man, Vance, is nothing more than a puppet for another Elder Dragon seeking our downfall."

"I have not told you a single lie. I speak only righteous words. The Freelancer is compromised, the Everwyrm is in his ear! Together they are plotting for their own gain! And the Wyverians? How could it not be obvious before?! They keep man held down out of caution that their rule might be overturned."

>Doubt the Ancient, who speaks twisted words.
Things are never that simple, while we're grateful for him having saved our hide against the Alatreon we rather see ourselves if our fellow hunter and good friend is as crooked as he says.
>>

>Doubt the Ancient, who speaks twisted words.

One who only speaks in absolutes often has skeletons in their own closet.
>>
"I.... I cannot." Comes the Star.

"Heuh....? And pray tell, why is that?"

"You speak only in absolutes, Ancient one. You leave no room for other possibilities. Furthermore, you would have me leave behind all I hold dear and cherish, my friends, my call! They are not meaningless to me!"

"My brother, you've happened upon something much bigger than yourself! You've no choice now but to involve yourself, and I burgeon you, involve yourself with the right side!"

"Your descriptions of our Ancient people... they are ghastly! There was no regard I heard for the things we take for granted, the ecosystem, this earth we must caretake for!"

"We have no need to, not when we can steward over nature."

"Steward over nature? What you mean to.... wait, you meant to say..."

"That we are above it. We control nature, not the opposite. Or at least we did, as our prime self!"

"That is preposterous! Nature is not for man to manipulate!"

"Not without the height of our technologies! We could blacken or green any continent we wanted! We could change the environment and seize control over the weather! Is that not amazing to you?"

"No... it is not! That is... abominable! We are apart of nature, not it's master! Nobody is!"

"The verdict of history proved otherwise."

"Listen, you! You came here to settle your score! You thought that if you could defeat the Alatreon, your worries would vanish and your friends and those you hold dear would be safe again. But you were wrong!"

"You allowed too much possibility into your consideration for you to win. You feared that this may be your demise fighting a Black Dragon, as it was so many of your kindred. You thought you could win however because of how blessed your blood is. You were conflicted and scared and had no absolute to carry you on the way. If not for my intervention, the beast would surely have rended you!"

"...."

"With only a flick of my finger, I have put your foe down, and now it is incapable of fighting back, waiting to die to any last stray killing blow! You see my power, but know it is not my power as an individual, it is the power of Man!"

"You cannot hold it so long as you cling to those beneath us. Wyverians, traitors... possibilities..."

"I have proven that absolutes are indeed the only method for grazing a path. I can be your guide, I can help you onto the right path. I will offer you only one more chance, Sapphire Star. Join me... or let your fear of fate consume you!"

>What does the Sapphire Star do?
>>
>>4268600
First thank him for his help to defeat the Alatreon and politely but firmly tell him what he plans it's something we can't support, and if the time for us to face our fate comes then we shall face it head on. Damn Zuhramon, calm down a little, smell the flowers, try to interact with humans of our age for starts. Not everything needs to be resolved by genocide or brainwashing people.
>>
What would the Star think, though?
>>
>>4268600

By his own admission, the glorious civilization of the Ancients failed, despite all of their technological wonders and fearsome military might. He is proposing something that basically puts humanity back on the same track, but expecting different results.

>>4268626
I think you might be on to something here. Zuhramon keeps approaching what he believes to be paragons or heroes of humanity, but he forgets that the Sapphire Star only stands so tall because he stands on the shoulders of giants; or in other words, those who came before him and those who support him even now. While he's monster-slaying machine, he didn't do all of it alone.

Even Zuhramon must surely recognize that even though he's alone now, his survival was the product of at least one other fellow human who cared enough to give a rat's ass about him being alive. He didn't personally research his cybernetics either.

If he truly wants to restore humanity to greatness, he needs to understand the current state of humanity on a personal level. Forcing it upon them will make him no better than a Wyverian shadow-government or the brute tyranny of vengeful Elder Dragons.

We could try this, that's something I been wondering since our second face to face with Vance, he always does what he thinks it best for the humans of now but he doesn't live with them, interact with them, hunt with them, nothing, he just voyeurs through Vance's eyes, we should say he needs more human contact and walk with people to know himself if the people want or need this stuff he is trying to sell.

"I must thank you again for your help, but..."

"Your plans, as you described them... controlling all of the world's Bioenergy... I cannot support that."

"You will not receive your heart's desire turning away from me."

"Then so be it! You yourself said destiny cannot be defied! If I must face the same fate that has befallen my ancestors, then I will, even If I shudder at it!" The Star declared.

"Hmpfh... So you will not join me then."

"Zuhramon, I will not join you."

"Very well! If you will not consider the righteous journey of restoring mankind to it's true self, then you will know the folly of belief against absolutes!"

Zuhramon raises his hand then, reaching down at the Sapphire Star.

In an instant, his aura flared and the Star became entangled by that same Bioenergy power. Yet, what wrapped the Star was coming out of him...!

"You have gotten this far off of borrowed power, just like your entire bloodline! Yours is a type that could not face Black Dragons without the power of the Ancients! So ironic that you deny me, yet your family and you subsisted on our old lost works!"

"If you think you are willing to face your fate yourself, then you will... with only your power! No longer will you be carried by our art. You must prove yourself in trials with your own two hands!"

"I am stripping you of your ability to use the Transcendent State!"

"EERNGH! BUT THIS... IS THE POWER OF MAN YOU SPEAK OF... I SPENT A GREAT DEAL OF YEARS... TO LEARN HOW TO USE EVEN... A SPLINTER OF IT!"

"You are undeserving of our strength if you will not see our way... will not join me on my mission!"

Eh, close enough, I'll let this one pass.

"Hgnnnn.....!"

All of a sudden, the Ancient felt his pull over the Star stop in it's flow. The Star had focused himself, and reversed it.

"I have... given you my thanks... but I have not given you my support..."

"Eh?! What... how could you... what is the meaning of this?!"

The Star stepped forward then, his Transcendent State activating and flooding out Zuhramon's own aura. Gradually, the Ancient descends and lands on his feet, surprised at how quickly his hold was dispersed then.

"Your plans are not right, not what is good... and now being refused, you try to take away from me the one thing that I have only ever used to protect my fellows and nature with."

"You... your Transcendent State is... on another level... I did not think you... mastered it so..." Zuhramon says, shocked.

"My bloodline has preserved many secrets of that Ancient Art, even away from the Guild and all other prying eyes. I command it on a level like that of those who invented it!" The Star says, continuing to step forward towards Zuhramon.

"I see.... I have underestimated you. Letting out your full power like that... even I cannot do much to you now."

"I admit, I have always held back with it. I had hoped I would only ever need to call on it's full potential at the end of my life. But you, you are incredibly powerful as well, Ancient, enough so to warrant this. I did not even consider needing to use my true strength against Alatreon."

"What? Why not?! You could have died if I didn't intervene then!" Zuhramon says, taking a step back.

"My ancestors have always died taking down the legendary Fatalis at the ruined castle. That was the only opponent I was hoping I would ever fight like this. I admit, Alatreon has learned from our last battle in the secluded valley, and that nearly cost me my life, but as it stands I would still not even fight it like this. I was unsure if Alatreon was the Dragon I was destined to die fighting."

The Sapphire Star steps up, looming over the Ancient, who remained motionless in surprise.

"Ancient..."

What does the Sapphire Star do?"
>"...take your leave. Now."
>Punch Zuhramon down.
>Write in.
>>
>>4268929
>>Write in.
While I would love to punch his face I think this is an opportunity to make him rethink about his stuff and humanity, something like:

> ...You truly might have the best intentions however both your thinking and your actions are wrong, the path you desire will only bring misery not only to humanity but to all life itself, rather than us accepting you I think you should consider why I and hunter Vance aren't accepting your plan and if the rest of humanity would truly accept your "gift". Now it's about time we both take our leave.
>>
>>4268952
Well, the reason is quite clear.
>>
>>4268977
I know, you know, Vance knows, Shara knows, Velkha knows, hell everyone which came in contact with him and has a bit of sanity is aware of why this is a bad idea which no one gonna like, he is so fucking stubborn, like a bratty child when you say no and it starts to go ape shit, we need to drill him till he finally gets it.
>>
"...You might just have only the best of intentions, you truly may seek to help humanity... however, your thought and your actions are wrong. You tell me you will control the world's energy, and subtly steer man back to the way they once were... but your path will bring misery, to all life."

"Yes, your path is one of artifice. You want to... brain wash the world."

"How do you think it is that Mankind united into the empire it was in the first place? With every man, woman and child cheering for the same thing?"

The Star shakes his head.

"It sounds to me, from what you've told me, that there may be a good reason that Vance did not listen to you, and instead listened to the Everwyrm, whom you claim to be 'evil'. You had a very good chance here at convincing me today I admit, but I have seen through your word. I did not know much about Ancient Civilization, nobody does, but your descriptions... they are horrible."

"I told you, I did not tell a single lie! We were good that way! There was nothing wrong with it!"

"There is something wrong with all of that you've told me! We have no place lording over non-humans, or this world!"

"You seem desperate to force others to accepting your point of view, yet we do not. Perhaps you should backtrack, Ancient, and see if you can truly find out why we aren't. Perhaps it would be better then to see if Humanity as a whole today would be so accepting of your ideals and their past."

Zuhramon does not say anything else... but there is a subtle clicking from within his visor the Star hears.

"Now begone with you, I've much work I need to do."

"Hmnn.... Fine. I will leave then." Zuhramon says.

The Ancient suddenly struck forward, driving his two fingers into the Star's neck then. The Star reeled back and clenched his throat as the Ancient began to levitate again.

"Huh? This mark.... What have you done, Ancient?!"

"From this moment onward, you are hexed, Sapphire Star! You will not be able to tell anyone about what happened here! Since you have not seen the light in my words, you will be left behind... and one day you will receive your merited dues..."

The Star shivered at that as the Ancient vanished from sight. He did not know the meaning behind being 'hexed', but maybe soon he would find out.

The Star was exhausted, and mentally drained after today, having his hardest fight ever with Alatreon, and he had not even won. Due to the intervention of Zuhramon, it has ended in yet another draw.

What he had heard turned out to be true after all, the bit he learned from the Commander, the First Wyverian warning that was relayed by the Freelancer after a mission in Lambent Bay. The 'Primeval Man' and such... it was all true. The First Wyverians have been absent since then, the Star has not been able to find them, nor anybody else. It was all worrying. Has this Ancient done something to them? What relation did they share?

The Star knew that he had to get to the bottom of this all, and his key to doing that was talking with the Freelancer, the so-called 'traitor' the Ancient picked out. He needed to get all he could out of that fellow, Vance, and the Everwyrm...

He learned much about the Ancients from the last of them, and not all of it did he like so much... But right now, his wounds stung as he fell out of his Transcendent State. He needed to get back to Astera...

Hmm....?

Ah... that's right, Alatreon is still alive. The Ancient called it a 'her'. The Blazing Black Dragon was immobile, but it's eye flickered at the Star as he picked his Lightbreak Hammer. He could finish the Elder Dragon off right here... right now...

What does the Star do?
>Finish Alatreon off and be done with it.

I wish we would have punched zoomerman of letting him off like that. The guy and the ancients were super fucked up, just go back and read Shara's story of the war if you need a reminder. We shouldn't spare him with words, we should just be hostile because the guy is absolutely irredeemable.
>>
>>4269126
And the Star knows of Shara's war story, how?
>>
>>4269127
I don't think he knows, which is why Vance will have to tell him. Zoomer still tried to fuck with him though, star should have decked him and messed up his new look
>>
>Due to the intervention of Zuhramon, it has ended in yet another draw
I don't think the Star would be satisfied with such a hollow victory.
>>
>>4269160
Are you kidding me? You want to spare a fucking BLACK DRAGON over something so small? He can get his jewel victory when he fights Fatalis, killing Alatreon is more beneficial to us right now.
>>
>>4269244
From a meta standpoint, she is resentful towards those that created her, giving way for a possible ally. From an in-character standpoint, since when was the Star a pragmatist? He not only went to kill Alatreon alone, he almost got killed for holding back.
>>
Forgot to mention, this is a very important choice, so I won't roll to decide here. I'll wait for a few more votes or so before I continue.

It's what The Star came down there to do. Waiting for it to be well enough to have another, proper duel would cause more harm to others. Plus if we go by game cutscenes, The Star has allowed interference in duels before, namely when Ruiner Nergigante decided to killsteal Shara.

Many lives will be lost if Alatreon is left alive. Plus, the Star’s purpose here was to kill it in the first place.

>Leave the Dragon, an ungraceful end is none at all.
>>
I should make some type of 'story so-far' thing for this quest so beginners can get into it to sometime.
>>
...But the Star doesn't.

Normally, he would just finish the Monster off and be done with his labor, but this time was different. He came here to settle a score with Alatreon, came here to either die to it's claws or stand victorious over it, unknowing if it was the Dragon that would kill him at last. But his fight was interrupted by that pernicious Ancient Human.

If he killed Alatreon now, his victory would be sour, as the creature was defeated by another. He hated it when such ends were the case for anyone, even terrible Elder Dragons.

The Star heaves his Lightbreak Hammer up and places it upon his back, looking the exhausted, panting Black Dragon in the eye for a moment. Then, he just walks away, leaving Alatreon there. alone at the peak of the Twilight Acreage's volcano.

The Star, now up to speed with the unseen happenings, has a lot to think on. He walks through the Acreage, wanting to return home. Along the way, he is greeted then by the sight of his best of friends, his fellow Veteran Hunters come to find him. They are all so relieved to see him.

For how long he has been gone here fighting Alatreon over the course of days, it was only normal that Astera would think he had vanished. He needed to get home and dispel that rumor, so everyone doesn't enter a panic.

The Star tried to mention what had happened to his companions... but he loses his voice, his throat taken over by a rough cough as his lungs shut for the second. He could not talk at all about what he witnessed, but he was able to weave a lie that he had matched the Alatreon as an equal to his friends, and that both him and the beast had stalemated there.

They seem worried knowing it still lives, and offer to go with him to help finally put it down, but he tells them not to. He would take care of the Monster another time. He always took care of the beasts, the problems. He was the Sapphire Star who everyone looked up to.

Dragon puss best puss.

We just have to wait until Atricia shows the faults of being human. Something you doesn't see in monster kind.

Now was not a good time to fight Ceadeus! The lumbering giant was too much for you to handle in this spot. You'd have thought the Sea Wall would have more space than this. Must be the heavy sunlight above getting in your eyes.

You picked yourself up and ignored the coil weapon the director sent with you. You would find some opening here, you just needed to get Ceadeus away from that wall before any more damage was wrought.

You swam and propelled yourself as fast as you could, but Ceadeus was prepared. The Ocean Dragon sucked in a large portion of the ocean water. It was going to release that back at you in a torrent!

>2d2000 to avoid!
>Failure results in heavy damage taken. Curatives will be much harder to use holding in your breath and managing them in the intense deep sea pressure.

Ceadeus exalted, spraying out his hydro torrent to strike you with. The spray of displaced water hit with enough force to burst the luminous coral ground underneath you! You believed the strength of such things were measured in 'PSI' or something like that, it's what you remember being mentioned by a Researcher once.

That jet was lethal, and you evaded it thankfully, swimming out of the way and getting out of there as fast as you could. Ceadeus only followed in close pursuit, ramming it's horns down to try and squash you along the way, but you maintained a steady speed that put you ahead. Thank Gog he wasn't hitting vital points on the Sea Wall or anywhere else with those, or earthquakes might trigger on the land.

You didn't know where to go, so you swam mindlessly, giving your full attention to the Ocean Dragon as it angrily followed you.

When you did chance a look ahead, you saw you were passing over the tall trech dunes again, going into the sweltering heat of that fiery lake you saw!

You wanted to turn back, because you could not endure so intense a heat, but you found it increasing for some odd reason as you stopped. Ceadeus stopped trying to crush you as well, and you guessed it had to due with the fluctuating heat. What was the cause?

....Then you peered up, seeing that bright, tall and flaming spire from before overhead! It was coming down at you and Ceadeus!
>>

As the flaming spire moved, the lake of fire progressively vanished in the distance. All the heat that bubbled the ground over into magma followed the spire, as it was the central point of the heat that caused the anomalous lake to be down here in the first place. Under your feet, the sea floor turned over red where it was previously just hot rock, burning until it turned over to lava that clashed with the water, refusing to harden back solid or oust.

The water became scalding! It was boiling! Your skin was scorched under your armor as that spire landed down in front of Ceadeus. The impact of it's landing sent you spiraling through the water backwards and far away! You couldn't be prepared for this, you couldn't take this heat!

And then you got your bearings again! It hurt to move now, but you got a good look at that spire. It was no spire at all. It was another massive Elder Dragon, one like a living volcano! This surly had to be that 'Devil' Ceadeus was afraid of!
>>
Whatever the case, the Ocean Dragon was the first to attack, drawing in more water before firing it out at the Devil. The Devil wasn't moved, taking the stream to the face unfazed. It was only annoyed at the water, which turned to steam against it's body.

The Devil raised it's long neck and brought it down like a hammer onto Ceadeus' head, bashing the Sea God down into the burning ocean floor. Ceadeus cried in agony as the Devil planted a foot onto it's back and pressed it into the magma pools.

Momentarily, Ceadeus freed itself by flipping it's tail around, hitting the Devil in the head and giving it a chance to escape. But the Devil would not allow that as it reached out and grabbed the horns of the Ocean Dragon, twisting at them until the smaller one broke off with a snap!

Ceadeus wailed, thrashing and freeing it's larger horn before it dove point blank into the Devil, staggering it on it's feet and allowing Ceadeus to swim up, twirling in a circle and bringing it's tail around, striking the Devil's neck with it and garnering a whelp of pain from the volcanic Dragon.

The architect of destruction lunged viciously, catching Ceadeus by the end of his tail. The Ocean Dragon was moved effortlessly, swung up above before one of the Devil's wings came over it's shoulder. You stared in disbelief as that wing ejected a furious blast of fire out at Ceadeus, like an explosive eruption from the mouth of a volcano!

The corona of that fiery attack carried Ceadeus away until the Ocean Dragon crashed into the trench dunes and took the whole structure down with it. You were also caught in the crossfire as the rapid waving of the water dragged you along near the fallen Ocean Dragon!

Ceadeus was absolutely helpless against this mighty Devil! He could do little to fight against it, it seemed indestructible. Knowing it's situation, it had to get out of there, but there was no easy way to unless.... unless...

The Ocean Dragon's one good eye fell onto you. You were trying to fix your position in the water, very close to it's arm fins.

You were not entirely sure if Ceadeus was as smart as other Elders you've met, but you were sure that if the bastard could speak, he would be saying that it was 'every man for himself'. You really didn't like that overgrown fish!

It waves it's arm fin, making you flow down against your will to it's tail. It bounced you off of the hundreds of tons of flesh and scales that made up it's tail, and then it flicked it's large fins, sending you through the water in a whirl, towards the Devil!

You could do nothing as you went and landed upon the nose of the beast, stopping it in it's tracks as it blinked and locked it's sight onto you. You didn't know how to react as it just stood there observing you curiously. Ceadeus used this chance to get out of there, swimming away to another area as fast as he could while the Devil was still.

The Devil glanced off at the retreating Ocean Dragon and hissed upon realizing what he had done. It blew through it's nose, washing you away before peering down at your small form in front of it's chest. The Devil released a fearsome growl radiating malice, one that made what hair that didn't burn off stand up on the back on your neck. For how hot it was, you went cold hearing that, staring back into it's hateful glare.

It was raising it's claw up to you slowly, as if you wouldn't notice! But it was so slow, very slow that it almost seemed the Devil didn't truly care about you, like it was pondering whether it should kill you quick or ignore you....

>Swim away fast!
>Slowly drift away, appear as much a non-threat as you can.
>Barrel forward, swim under it's arm for confusion and maneuver away to safety!

You didn't really care what it thought at this moment though, your mind was on getting out of this hellhole!

You hunched in the tight, boiling water and used all of your limbs to send yourself forward. The Devil's hand came up quicker in response, trying to stop you by catching you in it's claw, but you got away before it could. It really was partly aloof.

You swam down, speeding to it's left arm guiding yourself through a gap between the pit there, coming out near the spikes lining it's neck. The Devil back up in a rush, trying to locate you around it's body as it moved it's limbs frantically. You used this moment to your advantage, grabbing onto some spiky scales and waiting for it to gyrate again. When it did, you let go and allowed yourself to get hurled down to it's tail, where from there you simply scaled the tail back to the end and hung onto the tip.

The Devil turned all the way around, dragging it's massive tail behind it, and when it was clear for you, you let go, being sent flying away like you had been thrown.

You were able to swim away safely from the place, leaving the radius of fire that surrounded the Devil, going on your way back out to where you saw Ceadeus retreat off to...
>>
That damn whale went all the way to the massive white dome you saw, which was a fortress-like structure of bleached sea rock in the middle of the greater coral reef, illuminated by the absurd amounts of bioluminescent algae floating around.

Ceadeus was there in the center of the wide space within the walls of the structure, curled up there, resting away his wounds. You were angry now, that oversized fish tried to intentionally sacrifice you so he could escape the Devil, after attacking you! This thing was gonna die tonight if you had anything to say about it! And, well, because you were also tasked to slay him.

Now let's think here Vance... we got more than few options for helping deal with this meaty fish bastard. We of course have the Thunder weapon, the Hadal Coil Wear which you haven't even used yet, but the Director's ship above may have some additional tools for you to use, such as bombs or harpoons...

You supposed if you had enough bombs, you could rig this whole place here to blow and collapse onto Ceadeus, burying that Dragon under tons of rubble.

Or with some well placed harpoons, you could see about disabling it's good eye, or causing it some internal bleeding by throwing them into it's throat. That is risky however...

And as always, you could just go in and take care of it, old fashioned style.

...You don't like it though, but you could also try.... also try luring the Devil to Ceadeus... or even try offering to lead it to Ceadeus. It looked like a Black Dragon, it would definitely be a Black Dragon like Alatreon in your book. Black Dragons were smart, weren't they? Was this Devil any smarter than Ceadeus...?

What will you do now? What is your plan for dealing with Ceadeus?

You know I'm on board with this and all but ironically there aren't many opyions for dragon puss available either. We have our Tobi-Kadachi, but shes an animal so thats a no. We have Alatreon, who is a big no because she hates us, and Kulve Taroth, who is also a no because shes simply too big and I think shes taken. That leaves Velkhana, who we've barely interacted with.
>>
Hmm. From what you could tell, it seemed that Ceadeus' 'blind' eye was actually still there, just mostly covered by the overgrown horn. If you took out his good eye, his visibility would be extremely limited and he'd be lucky to see you. That would make dealing with Ceadeus a cakewalk.

You decided to go with the harpoon method after wall, swimming directly up to get away from the place Ceadeus was sleeping at so you could blow your Wyverian horn without waking the Ocean Dragon.

The Director's boat came to your location far above the rock structure. You surfaced and caught your breath, climbing up the chain suspending the Coil weapon and stepping onto the deck, dripping wildly.

"Ahh! Freelancer." The Analytics Director says, coming to you with a hand over his hat in harsher wind. "So, what were your findings? Could you determine the cause of the disturbances with the ecosystem down there?"

"Yeah, looks like your worse fear was right. We got a Ceadeus." You say.

"Oh dear. Well, it is a good thing we brought the weapon. Uh, did you slay it?"

"No, I'm gonna need a few more things." You say, whistling to somebody you saw carrying harpoons.

"Director," You come. "-I think you need to know, Ceadeus isn't solely responsible. There's another Elder Dragon down there, a huge one, it's movements are destroying the coral reef. Ceadeus has been tearing off chunks of the wall to throw at it, they've been fighting fiercely."

"What?! Another Elder Dragon?! Destroying the coral reef?!" He exclaimed.

"Yeah."

"D-Did you get a good look at it? Was it Nakarkos? Ceadeus and Nakarkos are natural rivals and and and..."

"No. It wasn't Nakarkos, it was even bigger than Ceadeus. It was like a fracking volcano down there, it had a field of lava following it and all."

"So you say..." He murmured.

The other Researchers present were chatty in a hushed tone as well, surprised over this news. They already formulated theories, questioning if it was another Zorah Magdaros.

"I don't know what it was, but it was mean, and it had these wings that fired out lava or something." You explain.

"Wing based projectiles... Why I've only heard of a few Monsters in my life with such capability, but none like what you describe. I'll have to look into this, and forward it to the rest of the council." The Director says.
>>
"Right." You say.

Two of the crewmen brought you a wooden container full of harpoons. You took it by the handle on the side and dragged it over to the edge of the deck.

"If you'll excuse me Director, I've got a Ceadeus to take down." You say, breathing in and holding your breath again.

"Do be careful! Ceadeus is a strong beast!"

You salute and drop back down into the water, using the weight of the harpoon container to sink down faster. You sank and sank and sank down back into the tight pressure of the deep sea, coming to a point where your harpoon container couldn't bear the force, exploding into a cloud of wooden splinters and letting all of the harpoons sink down to the bottom.

You hastily scrambled to gather them all back into one place as they fell around the structure of the undersea rock dome. Once you had them together, you found a place to stand at there, with the harpoons all to your side.

You picked one up and prepared to throw it at Ceadeus good eye....

You reach up and dig yourself out of the seafloor you were blasted into by Ceadeus' water spout. You were covered in shells and algae, and you pull a clam off of your finger... and a bottom feeding fish sucking on you off your shiny helmet.

Ceadeus wasn't following you out of the big dome, it was staying put. You guessed it was home defense for that big tubby son of a...erghh...

The harpoons were scattered about, some gone from your sight. You needed to rethink this all through. How were you going to do something about Ceadeus if it could just keep blasting you out of the structure it was held in with impunity?

Well, there was still the bombs, and coil you haven't used yet.

What will you do now?
>>
>>4273018
Let's try to use the coil, I don't think we should use the bombs, all the noise and possible destruction caused by then might end up attracting Dire Miralis, if we can the try to grab an harpon and shot at Caedeus after we use the coil.
>>
You know what? You're just going to shock him to death! that move back there, throwing you into the Devil, it really sat with you! Ceadeus was going to pay!

You hopped up, grabbing a harpoon and kicking your way towards the structure. You pulled out the Wyverian horn you had once you were inside and swam to the top of the dome, avoiding Ceadeus' line of sight as you did.

You waited until you saw the weapon coming in the distance to peek under through a hole, hurling the harpoon down until it struck Ceadeus in the head before you came back out to the top. As you expected, the Ocean Dragon growled again and came looking for you, but you pushed the weapon through a hole and guided it down as Ceadeus came out of a larger hole to scan around.

You were already inside the device when Ceadeus turned to see the chain. The Sea God came down, looking the weapon over curiously as you fixed yourself inside the protective cage wearing the coils charged with Thunder waiting to be released. You now see why it was called a 'wear'.

You had a thick wire inside the cage of the weapon, connected to a lever you had to turn inside. There were three rounded ports inside the cage for each coil, you only had to plug the wire into one and then use the lever to release the thunder inside one of the coils. The cage was lined with two layers of metal bars for protection, one of thick iron to resist attacks, and a thin steel one to prevent thunder from flowing in with sheets of small rings.

You plug the wire into the first coil and put your hands onto the lever so you could electrocute that damn fish. But the lever was hard to turn! The metal was slightly rusted, it would take some effort...

Ceadeus was already done with his little observation outside. He was getting ready to rut at you with his one large horn.

Ah- Ahah! You got it!

"HAAAAH!" You cried, wasting some held air as you turned the lever.

Upon switching on, a spark trickled down the wire and into the port it was plugged into, activating the coil.

The coil's rods released, and it opened up like a canister, exposing the many steel rings inside cycling with thunder that then traveled out into the water in an instant. You saw hundreds of sparks worming up the outer bars of the iron layer of your cage, and Ceadeus was vibrating, paralyzed by the initial shock.

Was that it? Ceadeus was still coming to you!

Wait, no! It wasn't!

The canister popped off of the cage then and exploded into a storm of electricity! The whole area was filled with chaining bolts of thunder that shocked Ceadeus into a trance of interrupted grunts and shrieks of pain as it wallowed there, having a spasm from the intense electricity hurting it, burning it's beard away slowly with the heat the lightning carried as it coursed!

When it was over, Ceadeus still twitched and turned, wagging around as it tried to regain it's balance in the water. That must have really hurt it! Some more of these shocks and you'll be able to handle it no problem!
>>
"NNMMM!" You hummed, doing your best to keep the air you had left in.

Ceadeus had exalted suddenly, throwing it's tail forward and striking your cage, sending it off into the wall of the structure. He responded with amazing force even after taking the full power of that shock. More hits like that and your weapon may be destroyed....

Whatever it was, you would do your best to counter it so you could get an opening on Ceadeus. You sat in one spot and waited for when the Ocean Dragon would strike...

Ceadeus went back some more, and then lunged forward!

You pulled your Greatsword, jamming it into the rock below and using it to swing yourself out of harm's way! You landed over at a spot farther away, near some kelp stalks and... wait... wait a minute, Ceadeus didn't even attack.

Huh? You dodged nothing. The Ocean Dragon was ejecting water from it's mouth, but not as a spray at you. It must have been regulating the weight in it's body? Or getting ready to channel it? What was it... Oh! Ceadeus began sucking it in again. So it was going to shoot a spray at you and... wait...

No, Ceadeus is sucking in way more water than ever before. It was... doing the reverse of a torrent. It was using it's lungs and throat to make a whirlpool there! You were caught in the pull of Ceadeus' sucking! It was drawing you in towards it's mouth! You tried your best to swim out of the current, but you could not!

You lock your legs and arms as Ceadeus' jaw snaps down on you, trying to crunch you up! Ceadeus had great biting force, it was much more powerful than Shen Gaoren! You couldn't take this, you needed to get out of his teeth before it inflicted a fatal wound upon you with them!

You try your best to edge your way out of his grasp!

You could not keep your breath held any longer after that. You let go, screaming almost voicelessly into the water, loosing all of your held air under your helmet.

Ceadeus went into a loop, coming around and clipping you with the tip of it's large horn. You were bashed by the full force of the angry Ocean Dragon, sent careening into rocks which you shattered impacting. Ceadeus floated above, looking down at your limp form as you went with the water. You thought the life itself was knocked out of you, but you were not dead yet, only fatally wounded.

Ceadeus began to swim down, coming over until his head was inches away from you. You watched the Ocean Dragon slide it's broken horn across the rock, scraping at it until it's neck was bent enough that it could get a good look at you. The large black eye with bleak yellow iris looked you over closely. Ceadeus was trying to discern whether or not you were completely dead, or if you could not fight back any longer.

You felt the water begin to warm up, but Ceadeus didn't know. Gog above, that Devil must be drawing near...

You could either sit still and remain motionless, hoping that Ceadeus will leave you alone, or you could attack now, driving either your knife or Greatsword into the eye of the Sea God. Trying to get away is also a possibility... but far more risky...

What will you do?

You know what to do Vance
>>
With your leg like it was now, swimming away would be a hassle, and you did not have much air left to spare. Your time was getting shorter and shorter of being able to be down here in the pressure of the deep sea. You knew it was a cheap move, but you were left with no choice now, it would keep Ceadeus off of you for long enough that you would be able to reach the weapon and then hopefully with your horn, signal the boat to recall it. This quest was not going well.

You reached around quickly with lightning reflexes and then with a smooth stroke, you drew the inert Greatsword upon your back and swung down, slicing a clean cut into Ceadeus' eye. The creature didn't even know what hit him by the time you did that, and then when you drove the length of the Greatsword into it's eye, it finally let out a cry of immense pain. You pulled it out, the white fluid of the eye and Ceadeus' blood spilling out to cloud your surroundings.

The Ocean Dragon went back, blindly throwing it's horn around and giving out thundering moans of pain. It rammed into more than one spot here in the interior of it's white rock fortress, sending rocks sinking down in chunks from above.

You sheathed the Greatsword and made a swim for it using your three limbs, paddling and pulling to get closer to the Hadal Coil Wear. As you went forward, the surrounding water as far as you could see began heating up rapidly, and the light from the sea surface above was blotted out from behind by red glows....

you turned at the sound of a dark growl to witness the Devil break it's way into the white rock fortress. It stomped through, roaring at the Ocean Dragon it was seeking out.

Ceadeus didn't grimace at the Devil. The Sea God stood it's ground, using it's partially grown over eye to see what little it could of the Devil. It was going to attack to the bitter end to defend it's nest here. No Elder Dragon would ever abandon it's home or where it lays it's head down at to anything, not even this Devil. Though for Ceadeus, this may cost it's life.

Even if you were low on air, you were intent on seeing this mission through to the end. Ceadeus must be confirmed dead on your watch!

You continue swimming over to the weapon, thinking it would be useful here for paralyzing Ceadeus with, but before you could touch the weapon, the water all around locally began to swirl. Ceadeus was manipulating the water, turning the place into a storm using his lungs to blow it around within the bowl-like confine of the structure.

The Devil was slowed somewhat by it, and you went flying around with the flow of it all until it stopped when Ceadeus went for another maneuver.

You were now stuck in the water, stopping in front of the Devil's shoulder as it raised it's wing. You would be caught in the path of the blast it was about to unleash!

Something you noticed about the blasts the Devil unleashed from it's wings were that they included volcanic rock chunks in the mix with the magma fired out like a cannon. You thought you might be able to catch yourself on one and then use that to get closer to Ceadeus, but you could not.

The wing fired out the sum of it's fire, and you were instead caught by magma sticking to your armor, sending you back with it as the blast traveled towards Ceadeus and struck the Ocean Dragon, sending it into the wall of the collapsing structure.

You were writhing there in miserable pain, having caught onto the end of Ceadeus' beard at the end of it. You swatted yourself to rid the sticky magma off from burning you anymore, having to do the same with your broken femur as well.

The Devil charged on foot now, raising it's neck and unhinging it's jaw wide. It was going to bite Ceadeus on his neck! The Ocean Dragon was going to fire back a torrent of water!

+=========+

You are in critical condition. Any one stray hit now will faint you and end the quest.

Ceadeus is nearly dead.

+=========+

>Throw yourself into the torrent and use it to reach the Devil's head so you can blind it. The Devil will only keep interrupting your chances to do anything to Ceadeus, you must make sure it can't.
>Climb up Ceadeus' beard quickly and get behind his head, making ready to stab him as the Devil bites his throat.

You on the other hand saw this as a good chance to get them both at once with the coil. You let go of the fur of Ceadeus' beard and used one leg, shooting yourself off from the Ocean Dragon while blowing on your Wyverian Horn.

The ship on the surface began to carry the weapon closer to you out in the open as you made strives forward. Your hand caught the outer cage and you climbed inside fast, shutting the door behind you.

You grabbed the coil plug and tore it out from a port, shoving it into the next coil and doing the best you could to turn the lever that activated the coils. You had only one good leg to use as leverage, and you barely made it, flipping the lever around and unleashing another storm of electricity out from the coil.

Ceadeus was stunned before he could unleash his torrent, and the Devil was struck by it as well. However, the Devil was barely held back by the strong currents of electricity. It even set it's eyes upon you, beginning to march over through the thunder coursing in the water. When the coil was drained of electricity, Ceadeus rammed it in the neck, but the Devil flipped around, bashing the him down with a slap that got his larger overgrown horn lodged into the rock.

The Devil was targeting you now!

>One coil made him shake, don't abandon the cage yet, use the last coil to stop him!

I doubt we be able to escape with our bad leg, we don't have a choice we're gonna need to slow him down and use this chance get the hell outta here.
>>
The situation was grievous, more now than ever, but you refused to falter back now, refused to be intimidated by the Devil there.

You latched your hands onto the lever after pulling the plug and shoving it into the last port. You heaved with all your strength left and turned the lever again, but you could not get it to turn just enough that it would trigger the coil weapon. It got stuck!

The Devil was now close, jumping up and grabbing the chain that suspended your weapon. The boat back up must have rocked, because he tugged on it until the chain snapped in half, allowing the Devil to carry it around as he liked.

The Devil started to spin the cage in it's hands. It swings it around, hitting Ceadeus over the head with your weapon. You were thrown about inside the cage, slammed repeatedly into every surface inside, hitting your broken leg. You could not even bellow a cry falling around this much.

The Devil went to swing again, but you kicked forward suddenly with your good leg, striking the lever and turning it the rest of the way it needed to be. The last coil was activated then...

The Devil screeched. The coil let out another great and surging burst of thunder. This one finally made that horrible Monster go back, stumbling as the electricity danced down it's body.

Your cage was let go mid-swing, and you took this as an opportunity to kick the door on it open, pushing yourself out with your arms. From there, you sank as you liked, down to the sea king, who was also paralyzed.

You landed onto Ceadeus' head and drew your Greatsword. The Ocean Dragon felt you, and went into a state of terror.

You prepared to attack his nape...

Many times here, you felt as though you might slip and be thrown off by Ceadeus, but you held, and raise your Greatsword again, driving it down into the neck of the Elder, biting deep at his spinal cord with it. The King of the Sea was losing himself now, perpetually fading into darkness, but he wasn't gone just yet.

He gave another stroke of his head, running it up into the ceiling and breaking away what was left, but you didn't let go even as the rocks pelted your shoulders and head like bullets.

Ceadeus descended, trying to regain his stamina. You stood up on his back, one leg drifting off to the pull of the waters. You raised the Inert Holy Moonlight Sword with both hands...

The leviathan Monster was finished. It's body gracefully fell out of buoyancy, falling through the water to the ground of the sea floor. You were weighed down by your sword, falling with it. You caught back onto the body of the now deceased Ocean Dragon, stabbing your Inert Holy Moonlight Sword into one of it's luminous organs.

You did not notice immediately, but when you did thrust your sword into the luminous organ, the blade on your Inert sword... expanded! It assumed the form it once did when powered by the abyssal cosmos.

Yet it was different. It no longer shined with a greenish-blue light, but a light red one instead. The potent Bioenergy of Ceadeus' body transferred over into your blade. Your Greatsword must have taken it as a replacement for having the old Holy Moonlight absent....

You wondered, would it give you advice again...? Guidance like before...?
>>
+============+

Your Inert Holy Moonlight Sword has absorbed the life force of Ceadeus, sapping all of the plentiful energy the Elder carried in it's massive body.

You now wield the Holy Moonquake Sword. While not as powerful as it once was, you can still the same devastating attacks it's tricked form possesses. It activates the same way as before, after completing a successful True Charged Slash. However, it can run out energy if overused, and recharges in moonlight or by attacking enemies.

You did it. Ceadeus was dead by your hand. You had done what the hero in your village's legend once did, and you feel all the better for it. If that legendary Hunter was watching, you were sure he'd be proud to know another Moganer repeated his deeds.

You swam away, heading over to the broken chain that was previously holding your weapon. As you did, you turned back at the sound of crunching and saw the Devil.

The Devil had rushed over to the body of Ceadeus and began eating it. The Devil was ravenous as it devoured the Ocean Dragon, tearing it's meat and bone alike apart and crunching it all to a paste in it's powerful jaws. It payed you no heed as it claimed it's prize, it didn't even seem to care that it didn't get the glory of felling the Sea God.

Was this why the Devil was hunting Ceadeus? To eat it? What will it do now that it has what it wants? Where will it go...?

You sheathed your Holy Moonquake Sword, dispelling the newfound power over it. You let yourself sink down through the water until you were touching the bottom with it.

You looked out ahead over to that colossal Devil. It was finished devouring Ceadeus now. Only some neck, the head and pieces of it's tail were left... The Devil was moving out.

You raised your arms and screamed at the top of your lungs in your head to reach out to the Devil, even as bad an idea it was.

It did something you didn't expect of it then. It raised it's arms in a stoic manner. You heard whispers then, like voices in your head... which now spun.

You felt dizzied, like you had a sudden onset of vertigo. The Devil was speaking something in a black tongue you didn't understand. It felt like it was trying to make you understand, even if it hurt.

"What are you.... trying to tell me?"

The speech of the thing hit like a wave. It came out in an instant, and it felt like thousands of lashes against your flesh in an instant as well.

You fall down onto your knees, fracturing your broken leg further. You are now holding yourself up on two shaking hands. Your head is explosive with pain, like lightning coursing through your skull. Your bones are weak and your skin is crawling. You are scared, and your mind is crumbling from overflowing Dragon Element in your psyche...

This thing... this horrible Devil wasn't merely trying to speak. It was trying to impose upon you, trying to make you do what it wants...

You wanted it out of your head. But it only stood there, looking down at you with eyes full of hatred. It was so stupid of you not to realize this the firs time you saw those eyes, back when Ceadeus tried to sacrifice you...

>Shout at it to leave.
>Try to get away.
>Play dead.
>Write in.

So for the guys who wanted to make contact, are you happy? We could be at Astera now but against any good sense you had to talk did't you. Anyway things are bad we could try to summon Zuhramon, even though were at odds against him he might be willimg to help us against whatever Dire Miralis is trying to do to us, otherwise juat get the fuck outta here.
>>
>>4278629
Okay I thought at most he would give us the spiel about humans dying, I did not anticipate it going full satan mode on us.

>Play dead.
Maybe he'll think he went overboard and killed us and leave.

Wait, are we gonna try screaming out loud or through the connection?
>>
>>4278727
Either way works as nearly anything intelligent enough to use the connection is intelligent enough to understand spoken words even if they can't speak them.

Though the votes are tied and I don't want to roll. I got one for shouting, one for playing dead and pMOvcVLv is either voting for a write in to summon zman or to try and get away.
>>
>>4278733
I chande to only try to summon ZMan then, he might be at odds with us but even he might understand the urgency of the situation.

I either watch movies from my giant ass folder, play a video game occasionally, think about how hard I should screw the players over next, read and glance at other quests, or conceptualize for my next quest like I've been doing these last few days and I think it's coming along nicely.

I shall be the tiebreaker.

"EeeerrrrgggghhRRRAAAAAAAGHHHHH!" You suddenly screamed out.

"GO AWAY!" You shouted at the top of your lungs to the Devil.

"GO AWAY! LEAVE ME ALONE! GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I WONT LISTEN TO YOU! I WONT! I'M NOT GOING TO BEND TO YOU! I WONT KNEEL!"

Your eyes shot open and you got up in a coughing fit, spitting water out underneath your helmet and shaking your head around.

"Easy! Easy there! You're alright, you're back on the ship now, back in safety!"

You felt like you had been kicked to be awoken. The Analytics Director and several others were standing near.

"Help him up." The Director tells two crewmen, who come over and hoist you up until you can stand on one leg. You lean on your Greatsword to keep your balance.

"What... happened?" You ask.

"We found you floating on the water almost lifelessly. We got you up immediately. The weapon is unfortunately lost..." The Director explains. "But the good news is... there are no more disturbances we can feel. They've vanished completely. The integrity of the local ecosystem and the the continent's support is no longer endangered, and it looks like the coral reef will be alright after all as well."

"Good... good." You say.

"What about you? What happened down there, Freelancer?"

"I did, Ceadeus is dead. And I think that other Elder I saw is gone now too."

"Really? So the problems are dealt with? Splendid! I knew you were the person for the job, I just knew it!"

"Oh, and it appears there is something wrong with you?"

"My leg, I think my leg is broken." You say.

"That's no good. Captain, set us a course for Astera immediately, our job is done here." The Director tells the ship's head.

He walks over and bows in respect. "Freelancer, you have my thanks helping us here. I will see to it that the reward is sent to your trunk. Oh, and another thing..."

The Director fishes into his pocket, pulling out a blue ticket.

"This is also for you, a High Commendation. I'll have it mailed to your home when we get back. See the reception sometimes, they'll tell you what you can do with it."

You nod thankfully.

"Well then, let's head back. Today was a wonderful victory."

You sat down for the rest of the journey home, and when you finally landed back in Astera, you struggled on your own hopping with one leg until you reached the office of the Doctor. The Doctor saw you as he was free today.

You receive a cast that can fit smoothly under your armor from him that is tight enough to hold your femur in place and steady the broken bone while it heals. You are able to walk, and even run and jump again like normal. Your exhaustion weakness still remains however. The Doctor also checks another thing and gives you another tidbit of good news; Your Yama Tsukami burning gas is gone, thus you no longer suffer a weakness to fire.

You walk out of the Doctor's office feeling somewhat better.

You decided you would go see Shara now with what sunlight was left. He was at the Research Base, and apparently those two friends of the Star you sought earlier, the Excited A-Lister and his Serious Handler, were called there to help with something concerning him and the Third Fleet.

Maybe while you were there, you could also ask them about making that toy you thought you would be useful for keeping Chamo company at night.

You thought that Atricia might also like to come, so you went back down to your housing complex to ask her.

You knocked on her door and awaited a response.

"Coming!" You heard from within.

Her door jolted open suddenly and she stepped out in front of you heartily!

"Ahah!" She laughed.

You stepped back in surprise and looked her over, marveling at her new look. She was wearing the armor she had expressed a deep desire to have at last. The Seething Bazel set. It was glowing with red hot power.

"So, what do you think?"

"...Wait a minute Atricia, I thought you wanted the Alpha set."

"I...." She stops, never losing her smirk.

"....Crud... you're right, I must have forgot...." She frowned then, but she immediately put her smile back on. "Oh well, Beta is better for jewels anyway, and I got plenty of those. Plus, I think Alpha would have been worse for my hair now that I think about it."

"Your hair is..."

"Wild? I know! I adopted a new style for this armor and all today when I got a cut down at the barber!" She says, flexing her arms. "I think it compliments the armor well! I look like a real fighter now!"

"Do you like it?" She asks.

"To be honest Atricia? I don't like it as much as your old style. It's a bit... too 'out there' for my liking." You say.

"Oh. Well, at least you're honest." She says, her smile shrinking a little.

"Well, I can always put it down again. I'd say part of the reason why I chose this style is because it's easier. I had so much to do to my hair wearing my Kirin armor just so I wouldn't look like I crawled out of bed that it was beginning to become a little bit of a problem for me. This way at least I don't have to worry so much until I'm out of the armor." She explains.

You raise your hands. "Understandable, I won't argue that."

"Maybe you'll get used to it in time the more I wear it." She says, hopeful.

"Maybe. You do you, don't pay that much attention to me." You say, not wanting her to feel disappointed over it.

"Mm."

She nods, her smile fading away.

"So what did you want with me?"

"I was going to go see Shara right now. I was wondering if you'd like to come to."

"Oh yeah! Sure, I'd like to see what the little buggers been up to at the Research Base too." She says, her smile returning.

"Great. Let's go together then."

"Let's!"

You and Atricia both locked up and headed out, going to the gate entrance before calling the Wingdrakes and flying off to the Third Fleet's Research Base. Along the way, you talked with her about Ceadeus, which only helped to ease her fear of Gogmazios that she discussed with you once.

You didn't want her to feel bad that you didn't like her new hairstyle so much, but you forget it and sigh a sigh of relief as you see she is not feeling any worse for it. It was just hair after all, no big deal to a pair of Hunters.

When you and Atricia arrived at the Research Base, one thing you noticed was the strange absence of a certain pinkish and sandy little Dragon in the whole airship. You could not see him anywhere, and so you walked up the decks to greet the Third Fleet Master with a slight bow to pay respect to her Wyverian background.

She seemed concerned about Shara and mentioned 'having no where to fit him'. That really confused you until she elaborated that he was apparently growing before the eyes of the Researchers. In a hurry, they called for help from Astera and received the Star's colleagues. She tells you that they took Shara down to the Highlands to give him breathing room, and at that you thank her and make off with Atricia, going down in a tinier airship to Coral Highlands below.

You landed at the first camp a ways off from the Research Base and looked out with your binoculars, spotting the Star's duo of friends near the high coral tower where Paolumus were known to nest at, at the overpass of basalt rock. You quickly made off to approach them with Atricia in tow.

"Hey! It's the Freelancer. Hey there!" The Excitable A-Lister said, waving his hands as he saw you approach.

"Hello." You say, "I came to see Shara and I heard what happened. Where is he now?"

"Oh! Well.... uhhh... there isn't an easy way to explain this..."

"We kind of... lost track of him..." The Serious Handler admits.

"....You what?"

"He's huge now! We thought we might think of what we could do with him while taking him for a walk!" The A-Lister exclaims.

"One moment, we were walking ahead of him and leading him, and then next thing we know, he tunnels down into the Earth and just disappears. We tried looking and calling, but he hasn't responded or shown up again." The Serious Handler tells you.

"But the good news is that we know he's still around here... some... where..." The A-Lister says. "-We heard him call out in the distance, so we're on our way to find out where."

"Jeeze... How loud was his call? Which direction?" You ask.

"We think it might be near the base of the Coral mountain up north... but it was vague, so he might also be near the Shamos grounds down east... or somewhere else." The A-Lister says.

"We're sorry, we wouldn't have taken him out if we knew he was going to bail like that." The Serious Handler apologizes.

"It's fine, I didn't expect that either." You say, trying not to grumble.

"Hey! Now that you two are here, we can all search together, what do you say?" The A-Lister suggests.

What will you do now? What direction will you search?

The Coral Mountain was a good way to start looking, and it was higher up as well. Even if Shara wasn't there, it would provide ample ground to look out over the Highlands with, so Shara could be found. You took the others and lead them yourself through the brush of the Coral mazes, passing by the Raphinos ground until the base of the Coral Mountain was reached.

From there, you stood up on a tall rock and called out over the Highlands for Shara. You waited around, listening out to see what might happen while the others stood at the side.

Shortly after, there is a song in the air, followed by the jelly fauna in the sky dispersing off their natural course. The ground underneath rumbled until a clear and transparent tremor could be seen sneaking up underneath your feet and going behind your group. The ground morphed as something gigantic dug itself out!

It was Shara Ishvalda after all!

"Woah!" You staggered, jumping down from your rock and approaching Shara. "You guys weren't lying... he is huge!"

"You said it! The Eggheads said something about him being in his 'teenage' phase. He's about half the size he was grown up." The A-Lister said.

Shara looked down at you and shook the debris off. "Human Vance. I knew you would come."

"Oi, what's the big idea Shara? Why'd you run off from the others?" You asked him through the connection.

"I had to. My body was experiencing a sudden shift in growth that I needed to support with sufficient... energy. I knew the Humans would take me away from their floating fortress when I began to shed and grow, I dove down to the vale so I could feast. I would have came back soon enough on my own."

"Feast? On what?"

"My body needs more energy until it matures and I gain that by eating. Your Human and Wyverian foods are not enough. The cemetery below this land is full of the corpses of deceased Dragons. It is where the feral ones go to die. I searched until I could find some fresher bodies, which I devoured for their energy."

"Y... You.... you ate other Dragon's bodies?"

"It would take me a month of eating animals to get half as much energy as one can find in the body of even a weak Dragon. I have done this more than once, it is my only real option."

"Well uh.... I know you're pragmatic... but cannibalism? Really? Couldn't you find the energy elsewhere?"

"At a cost yes, but what one can scrounge up in the cemetery is free. Meat is meat. The big horned brutes that eat their own kind regularly prowl it for dead Dragons. You know the ones."

"Well Shara that is.... uh..."

"You do not think lowly of me for this, do you?"

>That's disgusting Shara, don't do that again!
>Yes Shara. Cannibalism is wrong, no matter how you spin it.

>>
>>4280963
> Well, you had to do what you had to do
This sounds like a sociology or philosophy question. But dragons are different from humans and we can’t judge them based on our societal rules, which in turn were influenced by what was good for humanity’s survival.
>>
>>4280963
Switching to
>I.... have no real opinion.
There are still many things we have to learn about dragons. We could maybe note that cannibalism is only seen as a last resort and otherwise unethical by humans.
>>
"I.... I got nothing." You say.

"Hm. I know such a thing is taboo among Humanity. If it makes you feel any better, I do not do it but when I have to." Shara tells you.

You nod as Shara pulls himself out of the ground all the way. He towered over everyone, easily the size of a Rathalos or something of the sort now.

"So, where are we going to put him?" The A-Lister asked, walking up. That question took you off guard.

"The Arena I guess, that was the idea from the start."

"I don't think that will be an option actually, at least not now." The Serious Handler says.

"Why not?"

"The Chief Biologist went and issued an order for storage to take no more new Monsters. The Arena is getting more renovations soon and they can't afford to keep Shara." The A-Lister says.

"What about the Special Arena? The Great Ravine has the perfect conditions for Shara to stay at." Atricia brought up.

"I don't think he'll be able to stay there either, since that one will be used for a lot of fights with the other Arena out. And even if he could, you'd need to get the Second Fleet Master's permission. That won't be easy." The Serious Handler informed you and Atricia.

"Hmm... this is tricky..." You say.

Shara yawns, having no preference for where he'll stay.

".....Hm?" Comes the Excitable A-Lister then.

He takes a few steps forward and looks up.

"What is it?" His Handler asked.

"Hey... no way... Look! Up there!" He tells everyone.

He directed everyone's attention to a tall cliff above, where a Wyvern sat.

"A Nargacuga?" You say.

"Not just any, it's the Lucent Nargacuga!" He says. "You were at Council weren't you? You must have heard about the subspecies and stuff coming out again. Well this is one of them!"

"Yeah, the Commander put a quest out for it. It needs to be hunted to clear the way for Hunters to get back onto the Valfalk's trail." The Serious Handler says, opening her quest book and showing the quest paper for the Lucent Nargacuga.

"Yoooo!" Came the Excitable A-Lister. "We should totally take it down with Shara!"

Shara gave him a funny look.

"Take him down with Shara?" You questioned.

"Yeah! Like you could get on his back and steer him like you're riding a Kirin in a dream! It would be fracking awesome! Think about it! Not only that, but you could also use this as a way to exercise Shara, or your, like, connection with him or something."

"The Lucent Nargacuga is looking down at us." The Serious Handler alerted everyone.

The Moon Swift Wyvern was indeed staring down at your group, it's attention caught by the A-Lister's excitement. It was not afraid of the big appearance of Shara either, even as he stood his ground and stared back at it with unflinching eyes. It might attack at any given moment...

"Don't worry, I will." You say.

He nodded and got his Handler. The two slowly backed away before making off, presumably back to camp.

The Lucent Nargacuga staring down at you was getting closer on the cliff. It looked ready to pounce from all the way up there. Atricia and Shara stayed on guard.

"Battling the Wyvern? I would have no shortcoming doing it, but for you it might be difficult. My body is hard like stone but you are of soft flesh. The Wyvern will is fast, it will be aiming for you and the girl. It may be best if you simply stay out of the way."

"I can't do that, I'll explain on the way!" You say, carrying her off.

She continued to object, but you didn't listen. You'd make it clear that you could talk to Shara after a point to calm her down so she'd understand. For now you just carried her off as she harmlessly popped your back to try and stop you, though she didn't actually try to hit you for real.

You braced for impact, but it was of no use or help to you.

The Lucent Nargacuga zipped to the side faster than lightning and drove itself right into you, knocking you to your back. You were slammed into the ground and the Moon Swift Wyvern dug it's claws into your shoulders, trying to get into your flesh with them.

It bit at your head and you moved your neck to the side to avoid it, until it catches the left side of your crown and bites down, close to your ear ports, which it's teeth scraped.

"Ergh!"

It has been a long time since you last had to fight, you're getting rusty. You headbutt the thing back after shaking it off and clasp your claw around it's snout. It snarls and tries to get out, scratching at your chest. Though, with how hard your chest was, it didn't do much.

The Lucent Nargacuga started to scrape faster at you as your will was imposed over it's mind, taking effect slowly.

The Lucent Nargacuga jolted back and forth, escaping the grasp of your claw and trying to bite your wrist, but you catch it's neck and choke it, paralyzing it there as you push it down, forcing yourself on top of it. You squeezed it into the ground and held it there while pressing your wingtips into it's skull. The thing could not resist as well as it would have liked to.

Within moments, the Lucent Nargacuga loses itself to slumber, falling down and asleep. You unhanded it's neck and stepped away, having succeeded in reaching it's mind with your own.

You could finish it quick, snapping it's neck with your jaw easily...

What will you do?
>>
>>4282515
Kill it
>>
>>4282515
I don't think there's really anything to glean from a wyvern, and the Arena's closed, so let's end it quickly.
>>
You do just that.

You clamp your jaw down over the neck of the Lucent Nargacuga and within an instant, it breaks before the creature can even mount a reaction beyond shock. Your big rounded teeth were good at brute forcing things you bit.

You leave the creature's body there, having concluded your business here. It was time to return to Human Vance.

Brushing yourself off, you begin walking down the way you saw them go to get back.

+=========+

You are now Vance the Human again.

"So you're telling me..."

"That Shara can understand us, yes. He's really smart!" You stress, having finished explaining your reasoning for leaving Shara behind to Atricia, and the others.

"Dude... I think you're good and all but... Shara Ishvalda? Understanding what we say? I kind of doubt it until I see it." The A-Lister says.

You hoped Shara got done with that Lucent Nargacuga soon, you'd need him here to prove your point to the others, it wouldn't look good otherwise and... Ah! There he is now. He came back rather quick. You turn to your buddy Elder as he strolls up and stands calmly in front of everyone.

"Shara," You say aloud where everyone can see. "-you done with that Flying Wyvern?"

"Yes, I am."

"No no, you don't understand. Shake your head."

Shara pauses, and then nods in affirmation. His wing comes around and shakes off some blued traces of fur.

"Hows that for proof?" You say, turning to the others.

They all seem dumbstruck at that.

"I... stand corrected." The Excitable A-Lister is the first to speak up. You smirk with shut eyes under your helmet.

"Well, at least we know you had good reason." The Serious Handler says.

"Quite. Him being so smart..." You start, patting his snout. "...Is why he was sent to the Research Base in the first place."

"Oh, that's right, I was going to bring that up as well." She says next.

"Hm?"

"He can't stay in the Research Base anymore, as you know. We need to figure out what we can do with him." The Serious Handler brings back to light.

"Maybe we could ask the Third Fleet Master." Atricia says.

"No good, she said she was too busy with researching Valfalk to help out." The A-Lister says.

"What do you think, Freelancer?"

They all turn to you.

You could probably get Shara's opinion about this too. They already mentioned the Special Arena, but you'd need to convince the SFM about letting Shara stay there, and other than that there aren't many places....

What will you say? Or what will you do?
>>
>>4274229
Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that a Resident Evil quest was another idea I had. But here's the kicker, it would take place in the middle east
>>
>>4282596
>convince the SFM about letting Shara stay there
Lets do that

>patting his snout.
How dare you not draw that
>>
>>4282604
Just for you
>>
>>4282644
Cute
>>
>>4282644
Nice dubs and nice picture as well Level.

>>4282596
Let's take Shara's opinion first, we're debating the best place for him so it might be good to get his opinion.
>>
>>4282596
Supporting >>4282866 (checked), it still has to be under human supervision.
>>
Actually, why don't we just have him stay on that beach with Chamo? We could ask the commander to have an enclosure built there for them and use that as a way to introduce Chamo
>>
"Shara, did you have any input? Know anywhere you might like to stay at?"

"I have no strong preference. I do know a few places that might suffice however."

"Where?"

"There is always the meadow in the forest and Student's lair. Other than that, I know of an oasis in the ravine the other Humans mentioned. And in the great Everstream as well."

"Good to know."

Hm, oasis in the Great Ravine and the Everstream. Interesting. Besides that, The Fort might also have enough space for Shara, and he could even help protect it against Ahtal-Ka if he was there.

Where will you have Shara stay?
>>
>>4283454
The Oasis.
>>
>>4283454
Do this
>>4283318
>>
>>4283513
The beach? We can suggest this, but if he refuses then Oasis.
>>
>>4283454
The Fort is very out-of-the-way and there's no guarantee that Zman won't pull some fuckery, but it might be conspicuous enough that he won't.

>>4283513
We could suggest the beach, especially since Chamo needs a mentor to teach him right or wrong, but I don't think we'll like how the Commander --let alone the Warden-- would react.
>>
>>4283527
We should really consider getting the Warden on board with us in the fight against zman. You just know the Star is going to try saying something even if we don't.
>>
>>4283551
Your post is glowing.
>>
>>4283574
>da wyveriews did it
Go back to /hakum/
>>
>>4283494
There's two oasis, you gotta choose one.
>>
>>4283727
The one in the ravine.

"I've got it, I know just the place for Shara to stay, it's even close to Astera, really close." You say to the others.

"Really? Where did you have in mind?" The A-Lister asks.

"The beachheads outside Astera. I've been there, they're spacious, warm and just within arm's reach. Shara would do just fine there."

"Not actually a bad idea..."

"I agree, the beaches are usually uninhabited by Monsters as well thanks to the close proximity to Astera." The Serious Handler says as well.

"I wonder what the Third Fleet will do though, they were tasked with helping look into Shara. I guess they'll have to move the eggheads assigned to him." The A-Lister murmured.

"In that case, I got an even better idea, but I'd need to get the Commander on board. We could have some workers build an enclosure there just for Shara." You add.

"Hey! That would be great, we could visit him any time that way." Atricia said.

"Why not? We built Seliana in a day and a night after all." The A-Lister recalled.

"Plus, it also means you could help Chamo while you're there." You expressed to Shara.

"True. I can see why you had this idea."

"Then it's settled. I'll head back to Astera right now and talk with the Commander to see what I can do." You say.

"Well wait, where will the big guy be while you do that?" The Serious Handler questioned you.

"Well, Shara already knows the place I'm talking about, I took him there before. I can send him off to wait there while I talk with the Commander. Right Shara?" You ask, nudging his cheek with your elbow.

He nods silently.

"Great."

"Alright. You have fun with that. We'll head back to the Research Base and see what else we can do." The A-Lister says, whistling for his Wingdrake.

"Take care with him." The Serious Handler says, joining him.

"Yeah, you guys take care too." You say, walking off with Atricia as Shara followed behind.

Together, the two of you left to Astera while Shara dug under the Earth to travel off to the beach near Astera...
>>
When you both arrived back into Astera, Atricia said she would head off to handle informing the superiors about the unexpected slaying of the Lucent Nargacuga. Being as that the rare Wyvern was not killed by Hunter hands, it is likely the quest will just be shafted altogether with no reward handed out to anyone.

You went straight to the Council table then to see the Commander, who was standing there just looking off to the sea until you came up. You told the senior officer everything, from Shara's growth to the idea you had about building him in specific an enclosure near Astera, noting how there were few to none other places you could put him that were easy to keep check on.

He doesn't seem so apprehensive to the idea, focusing more on his surprise about hearing of Shara's growth, but he does tell you a few things. For starters, the Second Fleet is mostly occupied working on other projects, such as Arena renovations, meaning there is little in the way of manpower with experience in construction. Secondly, he tells you that currently there is an embarrassing shortage in resources for building.

The last few building projects, such as Seliana's fortified Supply Cache, the settlement itself, and The Fort, have nearly exhausted everything. The Fort in specific relied mostly on materials shipped from overseas the Colonel himself handled, but Astera was ordered to provide many things too for the repairs in the aftermath of Shen Gaoren's attack, as the Guild isn't issuing anymore material deliveries for the rest of the year.

He says there may be enough to make an enclosure, but it won't be spectacular, and with manpower at the moment, it will take a lot longer, being worked on for short periods throughout the month by a handful of workers.

He says that this could be sped up however. He notes that the Second Fleet currently has some workers in the Wildspire Waste on a job to finish transporting a Super Ballista to Astera. However, they are not able to get through at this time because an incident has broken out concerning the Gajalaka and Grimalkynes that is impeding their progress and even endangering them.

He says he sent the Field Team Leader to help, but that was yesterday. He must be having trouble.

Knowing that now, what will you do?
>>
>>4283994
Let's help out the field leader, let's call Vivi it's been a while since we did something together also she could try and convince them for us, let's get some hunters as well just for safety, like Atricia, Briggs and whoever is around to help.
>>
>>4283994
Oh fuck, are they having a turf war? A race war?
Bring Vivi to translate and get our man Balthazar, he cam calm them with his chems.

"Commander, might I be of some assistance?" You ask, offering your services.

"You think you got what it takes to calm the Gajalaka and Grimalkynes down? I'd be really thankful if you could, whole thing is a mess right now and I need my grandson on more important tasks." The Commander says.

"Don't worry. I'll take care of this. I already met and reasoned with the Gajalaka there, I'm sure I can get around to appealing to both groups." You reassure.

"Very well, break a leg then." He says.

"Yea-...."

"Hm? What's wrong? Was it something I said?" He asks.

"....I uh... never mind it, it's nothing." You say.

"Hm."

You salute and walk away from the Commander's table.

You would go get Vivi, she could act as your translator for this mission. You would also find somebody to come along as backup. You knew just the guy, you heard him raving at the Canteen with a cup full of beer. Your explosive pal, Balthazar.

Once you get those Lynians settled, you can get the excess workers on the job. Shara's home will be finished in no time.

When will we save vance from virginity by titfucking atricia?
Is Vance going to die in the end? Dire Miralis seemed to imply that.
