Your companions have moved into position.
The ice walls are placed.
Now all you can do is wait.

Finally the Lich reveals himself. He steps into the plaza, with only two bodyguards at his side.
In its hand it clutches a staff with a gem sitting on top. That must be his Philosopher's Stone.
The Lich's skull starts jerking around rapidly, surveying various locations on the battlefield. Looking at Alina on her balcony, the ice walls, yourself and the stone knight you hid behind one of the ice walls.
Its rapid observations end, and it casts Greater Haste on itself.

You dump an oil flask on the Lich, fireball works so this should too.

Time is on *his* side here.

Gotta ask for the deets whilst being keenly respectful. Fortunately, he's not paranoid about us.
But if he saw how we handled the last wish granted, he might know enough to specifically not mention anything we might object to.
That's why it's good to hit him up now while he's emotional, happy, and feeling safe. He might be honest.

>>4274879
Archie might want to wish for something that Christof would be morally obligated to stop, or he could try to take all the wishes.

I doubt Archie would do anything that *he* would consider untoward or dishonorable. He's arrogant and greedy for power, but not compared to most nobles. I'm clocking in at a 65% trust level.

To me, there's only an outside chance that he'll convince himself that stopping us from wishing is in everyone's best interest.

>>4276363
>Contemplate what the lich-boy said. What's he defending Aflor from? Pretty ominous.

I can't imagine all these undead came from a wish that went as planned. I expect double sided dragon dildos in our future.

Basically this,
we need 1 wish to free the genie
1 to make him fuck off from earth
and 1 to help our kingdom
there is no room for the dukes wish at all and now that the undead are gone we have bargaining chips
>>
>>4276764
You want to steal all the wishes away from the Duke? That's not going to fly at all
And what "bargaining chips" are you talking about.
>>
>>4276764
>we need 1 wish to free the genie
What? Why?

>1 to make him fuck off from earth
What? Why?

>and 1 to help our kingdom
Totally.

We don't even know this genie yet and you're already packing up his Lincoln Logs to ship him off to university.
There is no guarantee that *this* Wish Granter will be anything like the last one.
Don't stride in there thinking that we can whip off wishes like we're ordering off the drive-thru menu, fuck an archduke in the ass, and skip away as an hero.

We need:
1.To undo all the damage done to our homeland by the curse.
2. Not get fucked by the Arch-Duke even if that means letting him wish himself into becoming an immortal King or David Hasselhoff or something. This is a big chewy variable here.
3. Prevent the Wish Granter from fucking everyone in the ass either by being an evil genie or by falling into the wrong hands.

Plan A is not: Christof acts like a dishonorable, arrogant ass, steals all the wishes for himself, and uses two-thirds of them to make sure the genie is free and nobody else ever gets any wishes.

That's, like, Plan D, tops.

>Contemplate what the lich-boy said. What's he defending Aflor from? Pretty ominous.
The true ramifications of intelligent undead are actually a subject of debate, with various theories and explanations. But you are extremely adamant in your belief: undead, summons and automatons are all non-sapient and non-persons. They might emulate a thinking mind but it's nothing more than a fake. In the case of this "Lich" you have two theories. 1: residue from the original living person's personality and memories surfaced when you taunted him. Before he became an undead he was a powerful transmuter (possibly a soldier) with strong inclinations to defend his homeland.
Or 2: "Defend Aflor" was an imprinted directive; part of some awry wish. Its false and malfunctioning mind simply spouted its objectives.

No matter the case, in your culture destroying the undead body is the highest act of respect and dignity to the person who once was. Rest in peace fallen one.
>>
>"A glorious victory, Your Grace. All the realms will celebrate your achievements here. All that remains now is to claim the spoils. What do you intend to wish for, Your Grace?"

Archie: "We've got to question the Djinn first. It would be bad to rush in and make a naive wish. I will determine the potential risks and what the creature is capable of before making any final decisions. But don't worry, my highest priority is still restoring Uthain's climate. After that I have potential ideas for extra wishes. It might be wise to make those wishes before I take the Prison Cube to Aramoor. It would be bad if someone like Azahl tried to steal the remaining wishes while it's being transported."

The bargaining chips was that the dukes army was busy, now they are not. The duke could send us away if he wanted too now since our actual use to him has ended. We are 100% putting the faith of what happens next into the hands of the dukes reliability and good nature.

I don't think christof would back out on a deal now and assassinate the arch duke or anything like that. He is much to honorable. I was just saying that if he had died it would have been better. But I also don't think christof would be fine with passing the torch to someone else and crossing his fingers they do the right thing. Why don't know what we are dealing with but the surrounding land is filled with undead and the last wish granter we met was a caged kinslayer.

>What? Why?x2
>There is no guarantee that *this* Wish Granter will be anything like the last one.
ok you're right haha, what was I thinking. Forget everything thats happened up to this point and everything we learned form the first wish granter. Also forget all the decisions we made before about not letting some ultra magic being run free on our planet in exchange for some precipitation. THIS wish granter could be TOTALLY different, so lets just hold our dicks and walk around mindlessly until it shows itself. Why bother planning for the future in anyway what so ever. I mean we could potentially be in a coma and this is all a dream brooo, haha just wait and see you just DONT KNOW 100% how things will go so lets just let what ever happens happen haha.

TL;DR: Don't be a fucking retard, and be mindful of the future.
>>
>>4278215
You sound like a fag. TL;DR
>>
>>4278215
>GOOD IDEA:
Not being a fucking retard and being mindful of the future.

>BAD IDEA:
Assuming we know how the wishes will work.
Assuming we need to free the genie.
Assuming we need to use a wish to make him fuck off from the earth.
Assuming there is no room for the dukes wish.
Assuming that the more powerful Wish Granter, guarded by a much more powerful and intelligent army of undead, will be exactly the same as the only Wish Granter Christof has ever encountered, who was a unique individual with his own backstory and everything.
Assuming your assumptions are facts and stating them as if they were.

>RETARDED IDEA
Getting caught using uncertain assumptions as fact and then double-downing on your assumptions while angrily accusing others of being willfully ignorant.

Dude.
We might need to free him to get an untainted wish, but maybe not.
He might not consent to fuck off from earth.
We might not free him at all.
We might let Archie take his wish and see what happens to him.
We might just be after his lucky charms.

The only thing we know, for certain, is that Archie just said he plans to make our wish the first wish and then take the prison cube and Wish Granter to Aramoor.
I don't like that as Plan A.

Taking the information given by Ayanos The Murderer at face value you can make these assumptions:

The other Djinn may not necessarily be evil, but you know that they are criminals imprisoned by their own kind, plucked from their dimensional prisons by humans using the "prison cubes" which are apparently Djinn technology.

The criminal Djinn will have been branded with a title of shame like "the murderer" and will be forced to introduce themselves with that name when they meet you.

The Djinn will be forced to truthfully answer questions relating to its crime(s). (They will also have to be truthful about the exact effect of their Wishes or they wont work)

>"You plan to take the Djinn back home?"
"I do, best case scenario I secure the Wishgranter and use its power to ensure Aflor's prosperity, and perhaps even its autonomy for the lasting future."
>"What if that's not possible? I'm not sure the "Prison Cube" does much, the Djinn in Malgrave smashed a wall with his bare hand BEFORE I freed him."
"My ancestors were able to subjugate him, the possibilty is proven! The Djinn may be capable violent rebellion but it seems to me their preffered weapon of choice is the passage of time."
>"And what if the Djinn demands freedom in exchange for wishes?"
"Then I must refuse him. No doubt his plan is to await a seeker desperate enough to give him freedom in exchange for two wishes."

It seems like his will is set. You start to sense agitation from him, so you just nod thoughtfully without asking any further questions.
After Alina climbs down to ground level and rejoins you, the walk to the palace begins. Some straggler skeletons wander into your path but prove to be weak opponents. Soon the palace stands before you.
Archduke: "The chamber of the Wishgranter lies behind the throne room." He takes a long pause. Gazing at the structure. "The time has come."

Sorry, haven't finished the update. Will post the rest tomorrow!

You step through the vast and dusty halls of the palace. You feel a great sense of emptyness walking the stony halls. Hearing only the sounds of your footsteps and the distant shuffling of undead from the passing doorways. Eventually you reach a room containing somesort of magical machine.
A rock sculpture with many small vertical cylinders extruding from its top, slowly rotating in a circle. Its mid section a thick pillar lined with magic runes.

Alina: "What is this thing?"
Shawel: "A magical noise generator? Castle Malgrave had a machine that disrupted telepathy. This is probably the same sort of thing."
Archduke: "Exactly right, it stops telepathic control of the undead. Even when the Liches are alive they're never able to control the undead inside the palace because of this. Though none of my expeditions were able to exploit it. At this point we should just leave it alone. Come, the throne room is just ahead."

Two heavy bronze doors lie ajar, through them lies a large red carpet in perfect condition and cleanliness, flanked by many skeletal remains, armed and armoured. The carpet leads to a dais, upon which rests a crowned skeleton lying in a heap. There is no throne on the dais.
The archduke steps into the throne room. You follow looking side to side, paranoid in case the old bones suddenly spring to life.
Archduke: "Farland."
He steps up to the dais. "Shawel, what do you make of this crown?"
Shawel: "It's a powerful magic item, it carries energies similar to your amulet and the stone knight. I am afraid my magic sense isn't refined enough to determine anything else."
"I see."
He looks down at the crown thoughtfully.

You've never heard of a magical crown artifact in Aflor before. From that time you studied Aflor's history in the Oakheart library you guess that this crown was created by a wish during the brief Aflor civil war just before the undead army appeared. It's probably directly related to the undead army.

You decide not to intervene. You don't want to risk even the slightest chance of souring things with his grace at the last minute. Archduke Lockridge takes the ground, studies it for a few seconds turning it to different angles, then puts it in his inventory.
Someone's coming. Several of the Duke's men jog into the room and stand tall, albeit out of breath. At the front are the captains Oakheart and Blackyard.
Blackyard: "Your Grace."
Archie: "Report captain."
Blackyard: "The base is packing up and preparing to move into the palace, the siege machines and the rest of the men are on their way."
Archie: "Excellent work. And now for my prize."
He turns to the stone door behind the dais. And steps up to it.
Archie: "Come Christof. Enter the chamber of the Wish Granter at my side."
The two captains whisper to one another nervously.
Oakheart: "Your Grace, we have some concerns."
He doesn't turn around, keeping his eyes fixed on the door with his arms folded. "...and what are those concerns. Oakheart."
Blackyard: "We think it would be safer if you entered the chamber alone."
Oakheart: "Why afford adventurers the highest level of trust when it isn't absolutely necessary."

This.

Defending ourselves against his men to Archie, who already has given us his vote of confidence is unnecessary and a bad look.
I can totally see Ulric chiming in to do just that too, Alina and Shawel might too depending on how they read the room.

His men questioning him may be an insult to his authority or encouraged depending on their dynamic. Either way, it's not your place to intervene.

It was always the plan to go in together, so if Archie starts to flip on us, then we can question it. As long as it's just his men questioning, let them bark. Their concerns are understandable because they didn't (to my knowledge) personally spy on Christof being noble and good as much as possible.
I don't think that Christof would take offense.

Archie has been on top of things so far, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop.
If he's conning us, he's doing a good job of it and the shit will hit the fan.

>Actually that was a bad idea.
Good point though, if we were going to bicker.
We're not just seeking adventure.
Alina was lured into it by us, so she kinda is an adventurer.
Ulric likes swords.
Shawel is... I honestly have forgotten Shawel's original goals.

Oakheart: "A conflict of interest can occur even between the most righteous men."
Blackyard: "We mean no disrespect, but we are anxious for you to take unnecessary risks for this matter of supreme importance."
Archduke: "...It is my wish. That Christof, Alina, Ulric and Shawel share this victory at my side. I ask for your trust in my decision."
The two captains seem a little taken aback, but both give a polite bow.
Blackyard: "Then it is my wish too, sire."
Oakheart: "Yeah.."
The Archduke presses his hand to the stone door and a mechanism in the wall starts to rumble. With a high pitched whine and heavy rumble of machinery the stone door rises. Archduke Lockridge steps inside.

I never know what tune these songs go to!
This never occurred to me.
I thought I did more but I could only find the three:

>Shawel's Theme Song
(sung to the tune of "Theme from Shaft" by Isaac Hayes)
https://youtu.be/Q429AOpL_ds

Who's the hydromancer
That's an ice machine to all the "sirs"?
(Shawel)
You're damn right.
Who is the one that would risk their neck for their brother, son?
(Shawel)
Can ya dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
(Shawel)
Right on.
You see this cat Shawel is a bad mother-
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about Shawel
(Then we can dig it)
Such a complicated sprite that no one understands right but Dolomite
(Drawn Shawel)

&

>You Can Seek Clearly Now
(Sung to the tune of "I Can See Clearly Now" by Jimmy Cliff
https://youtu.be/MrHxhQPOO2c

I can see clearly now, but Sal is gone
I can see all enemies in my way
Gone is confusion that had me blind
It's gonna be a tight (tight)
Fight (fright) orcish melee

I hope I can make it now that Sal is gone
All of the bad feelings have reappeared
Where are the salamites I'm praying for?
It's gonna be a tight (tight)
Fight (fright) orcish melee

(Ooh...)
Look all around, there's nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead, there's none of the blue guys

I can see clearly now that Sal is gone
I can see all enemies in my way
Where are the salamites I'm praying for?
It's gonna be a tight (tight)
Fight (fright) orcish melee

And the one I'm most proud of:

>Seeker Quest Rhapsody
(sung to the tune of "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen)
https://youtu.be/wBqMbefDgys

Dolomite's real life?
But muh quest fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality
Open your eyes,
Look up to the skies and see,
Ulric's just a small bird, needs no sympathy,
Alina's easy come, easy go
Birdie high, birdie low
Any way the quest goes doesn't really matter to me, to me
Seeker, just killed a man
Put a mace into his head
Swung my weapon, now he's dead
Seeker Quest had just begun
But now the update is three weeks away
Seeker, ooh (any way the quest goes)
Didn't mean to make us cry
If it's not back again in three weeks from now
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters
Too late, my quest has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Salaman casts all the time
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Seeker, ooh (any way the quest goes)
I don't wanna cry,
I sometimes wish we'd genocide them all

I see a little veggie-person of a man,
Smash-to-mush, Smash-to-mush, will we make the men salsa?
The bandit camp and fighting
Very, very frightening me
(Goblin-fellow) Goblin-fellow
(Goblin-fellow) Goblin-fellow
Goblin-fellow felled-now
Magnifico-o-o-o-o
He's just a seeker, nobody loves him
He's just a seeker with no waifu harem
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let orcs go?
Genocide! No, we will not let orcs go (let them go!)
Genocide! No, we will not let orcs go (let them go!)
Genocide! No, we will not let orcs go (let them go!)
Will not let orcs go (let them go!)
Never, never let them go
Never let them go, oh
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh, Seeker Quester, Seeker Quester (Seeker Quester, let none go)
Dolomite has a monster put aside for me, for me, for me
So you think you can club me and cave in my eye? (Yeah!)
So you think you can beat me and leave me to die?
Oh, veggie, can't do this to me, veggie
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here

Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me
Any way the quest goes

That one I can see not everyone getting.
It's permanently burned into my brain from childhood, but not everyone would know theme song form "Reading Rainbow".
