+Intro+

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Brethorius, your trusted confidant and commander of the First Company, approaches you in silence. He is uncharacteristically grim.
>We have an issue, Chapter Master. We have news, the Void Squad is on their way back from the Grave. Mission was a success, for the most part, having in mind that it was nearly suicidal to begin with. I would have hesitated to send a whole Company in, while you sent a squad, straight into the heart of Chaos-controlled territory. But that does not matter. Your judgement was right, they retrieved Proteus, or what's left of him, and are back now, with some interesting information about the apparent schism among the enemy ranks. However, we have a big issue. Brother Sergeant Argos, hero of the mission, seems to have been corrupted by a daemon weapon he was forced to wield during the mission. While the wider Chapter is for now in the dark about what happened or that Void Squad is on the way back, we will need to explain this somehow and take action. I have discussed this issue with the Chaplains and it does seem, that Argos is bound to the cursed weapon. He still retains his sanity and free will, for the time being, but seems to be unwilling to part with the foul artifact, avoids questions and finds excuses not to leave the weapon. He is very well aware of the daemonic nature of it, but claims to be able to control it and cites his decision to return as one of the reasons for trusting him. The Void Squad is still in transit, it will take them another two months to reach Mormark. What treatment should we order in the meantime and how should we prepare for their return?
>>
>>4248919
Naturally we should prepare to forcibly separate Argos from the axe and lock him in isolation under 24/7 guard. Then we can observe and see what happens.

Thoughts?
>>
>>4248923

Keep him in the dark for now but inform his brothers about the plan.
>>
>>4248923

As for the rest of the Chapter we should simply say that he requires long-term medical treatment for injuries suffered.

Under instructions from Chapter Master, he is to be taken and isolated immediately upon arrival.

Can we try and organise more long-term and comprehensive prospecting efforts on Varda? We have five full regiments of troops now including an aeronautica wing, and hardy new settlers from Saladris Beta. It doesn't need to be instant results but a long-term plan to explore and prospect the major landmasses is critical.

Also prospect the moon.

Goju raises a good point. We already have a large population of Protherans on the Green Belt. Are we able to pick up any more? We could have done it with our main fleet on the way back from Triot etc. if there were people that wanted to leave.

On transit back, something goes wrong. It seems, that the daemon weapon, Ravager, has managed to somehow overtake Argos or influence his decisions. The only person in place to stop it is Brother Hull. However, the risk is immense. What path will he choose?
a) Try to save Argos [Adds -10 modifier]
b) Try to save the ship [Adds -10 modifier]
c) Try to save his brothers [Adds -10 modifier]
d) Try to defeat the daemon [Adds - 10 modifier]
e) Try to save himself [+0]

He will do it:
a) Using his body [in case of failure, Hull will die]
b) Using his skills [in case of failure, Hull will retreat]

Btw, last thread I tried to spend Hull's 3XP on an orator/battlepreacher talent (tried to run it by you before though)
That might've come in handy here to talk him out of it if the situation would've been more talky and less gory.
>>4237682
>>
>>4249035
I'd agree with these choices. Hull has exceptional body modifiers. Dude's swole as fuck.

Btw, can you even become an exorcist without being a psyker?
If yes, how much XP would that take? 10?
Considering that we'll probably have to revisit the grave sooner or later, studying up on anti-daemonic lore might be worth it in regards to long-term planning.

Upon return to Mormark you will hear the unfortunate news - there is no easy way to put it, it seems that Brother Sergeant Argos went berserk under the influence of the daemon weapon he was carrying. All seemed lost, when Brother Hull managed to get to him just in time to intervene...
a)...killing Brother Argos, although an extensive damage was done to the ship.
b)...saving Brother Argos from himself, but suffering a heavy wound.
c)...sacrificing the rest of the Void Squad to disarm Argos and isolate him.
d)...destroying the daemon weapon, but also damaging the ship and absorbing huge amounts of corrupted energies himself.

Because of the good roll, you can choose any of the above scenarios.

Exorcist skill (+0) would take 1xp. Non-psyker exorcists are weaker, but can still use this skill to use it against daemonic forces. Hull will be able to take this skill after this encounter.

Battle-Preacher [2xp]
- Hull can inspire surrounding troops chanting litanies of faith in the middle of the battle. All characters in his presence will get +10 when resisting fear, possession, perils of the warp and such.

Brickman [2xp]
- Hull is extremely proficient at throwing bricks, stones, boulders and other natural or improvised projectiles at his enemies, being able to throw them with enough force to stun even a power-armoured opponent.

Orator - unfortunately Hull does not have either required experience or training to become a true orator. He is more a man of action, than word, for now at least.
>>
>>4249173
>b)...saving Brother Argos from himself, but suffering a heavy wound.
Sacrificing others to save yourself would be wrong, the ship is worth more than a single marine and taking in a ton of corrupted energies tends to be worse than death.

Also these two

>Exorcist skill (+0) would take 1xp. Non-psyker exorcists are weaker, but can still use this skill to use it against daemonic forces. Hull will be able to take this skill after this encounter.

>Battle-Preacher [2xp]

I believe that most of the prospecting on Varda has already been completed by now, though smaller or more hidden resource reserves might be discovered as the population expands and more deforestation happens.

On the other hand, a prospecting effort on the moon and the other planets in the system could still be done. How much would you like to invest in it?
a) Nothing, utilise Chapter serfs and Vardan administrative resources [Will take 30 years, resources x1]
b) Nothing, invite professional prospectors from the Merchant's League, but they are likely to ask for priority rights for exploitation [Will take 10 years, resources x1.5]
c) Hire prospectors - spend 10W [Will take 15 years, resources x1]
d) Hire good prospectors - spend 30W [Will take 7 years, resources x1.5]
e) Nothing - grant prospecting charter to Chapter serfs, giving rights to settle and exploit resources, this will most likely lead to development frontier communities with a distinct culture and improve the economy as a whole, but will result in more in-depth exploration [45 years, resources x2]

>>4248999
Would you like to encourage immigration from Prothera? Having in mind that most of the population on Prothera harbours strong hatred towards the Chapter for your role in the downfall of the planet, one of your major defeats, and the fact that there are no pressures encouraging migration, this will be very unlikely, unless you offer strong monetary or land-grant incentives. On the other hand, this could help to mend the break between the people and the Chapter by reconnecting refugee diaspora with their kin-planet. If you would specify how many would you like to attract, I would list the options.
>>
>>4249200
>e) Nothing - grant prospecting charter to Chapter serfs, giving rights to settle and exploit resources, this will most likely lead to development frontier communities with a distinct culture and improve the economy as a whole, but will result in more in-depth exploration [45 years, resources x2]
Can we help the chapter serfs get started there?

Can we do both?

And should I add any expected events for when the vardan population has grown enough to find more reserves?

+Wounded Hull+
Hull received a blow from the Ravager straight to the chest, destroying one of his two-hearts. He will carry daemon-wound with him for the rest of his days and if he ever rolls a 13, his second heart will give out and he will perish. He is now known as Hull the Heartless. a) No, they are not under our protection

There is trouble in High Council of the Wuxide and I was needed here. When I heard that you reached out to Wuxide, I took action. I know that your connection will not be understood by either your or my race, but I hope to be able to see you more often now - I have convinced my elders that your warrior clan is the most potent military force on the mon'keigh side of the Sector and that diplomacy and guile is needed to keep you in check. Remember to purity check Argos (repeatedly).
Since it was a Khorne daemon, we should probably put him through some battle-situations for a while and see if anything acts up even if we find nothing, just to be sure.
We could put him on a planet with orks (with a tracker and maybe a bomb, of course, just in case) and see how he fares, but that also seems kinda dangerous.
Maybe we can send him to the Gnar elders and see if they can sense corruption in him and test his purity.
I don't know, I'm sure we'll figure something out.
