>>4242781If this were true, I think the only logical conclusion is that the community of players on Sufficient Velocity necessarily value elements that are generally unpopular here. And since that encompasses a tremendously wide variety of elements, that conclusion would lead to the correlation that the Sufficient Velocity community is extremely welcoming of a tremendously wide variety of elements in their quests. Yet, everything I have heard about the community, a tiny portion of which has been objectively confirmed, indicates exactly otherwise. Therefore, I am forced to conclude that you are, in fact, entirely full of shit. The phrase "chances are it might do well" would have been sufficient (heh) while still being a shill, but you got overzealous and your hyperbole has cost you all credibility.Good day.

Dialogue is hardest for me to write, because it's easier to think of action scenes in terms of cause/effect.>Maybe played 3-5 questsCurrently playing Tintin's Bizarre adventure-- fun quest overall. What's the consensus on continuing a quest after a several month long (announced) hiatus? Continue, start over, or start a brand new quest?
>>4243044*unannounced

>>4243044Plenty have done it and picked up where they left off. It depends on how far into the story you were. If your players were deep in it for a few months and you pull it out from under them with a reroll, then enjoy the saltfest.

>>4243044Try continuing and see if anyone cares enough to come back.

>>4243972In what way?Being like Dungeons and Dragons could mean any number of things. Theme? Setting? Mechanics?
Quest about a porn actress making it into Hollywood. You must scheme to meet the right producers, get invited to the right parties, invest your time and money in acting classes and workshops that may or may not give any results, and perhaps even fuck some film directors and other people to get good roles and favors in the industry, all the while fighting the stigma from other actors from being a former porn actress - or maybe not so former, if you run out of money you might resort to doing another interracial gangbang movie to raise some quick cash...
>>4243225I remember that civ, the concept is interesting, to be an underling of a major faction and have obligations towards it is an unusual take
What you guys have to realize is that questing is more than just roleplaying, it is a form of artistic expression, that's why we preserve our quality quests for posterity. You gotta support the efforts of all the brave men and women who are building the new /qst/ a world in which all people no matter their paraphilias are welcome into questing and feel represented and portrayed in a positive light through the use of this liberating tool of freedom fighting the pastebin to escape the clutches of the oppressive nazi moderation which seeks to curb and eliminate the beautiful diversity which is our true strength.

How few is too few players to simply continue running a quest? I think I fucked up mine due to the character creation being shit, should have just thrown them into the world properly instead.I don't really intend to give up either though, as some of my favourite archived quests had fuck all interest in the beginning. Still, I'm excited to run and having few voters are definitely slowing things down if I bother waiting for more than 3. Hell, sometimes more than 2.
>>4244566>How few is too few players to simply continue running a quest? How long is a piece of string? If you feel you don't have enough, then you don't have enough. Putting a ad in here can't hurt.

>>4244607Honestly? To tell a story based off of the choices of others. Don't really want much more than that. When the thread ends the next one will be.
>>4243225I'd be more than happy to see Elf Lord Quest coming back - I was honestly a huge fan of it whilst it was running, and I'd be interested to see where it would go in the future.
Ok so i need opinions for this potential evo thread, because so far it's good but i asked a guy and he said that this shit is slightly too complex, he recommends me to remove the limit of how many times you can evo from an unit, i think it's a good idea but i want keep the limit to not increase it more than 4, i am open to feedback on it.Pick is pretty much the first version.
>>4244614>To tell a story based off of the choices of others. Don't really want much more than that. Then it boils down to which idea compels you more. What do you think will happen after the starting scenario resolves? What about after that? Will you want to keep writing about that? Many QMs come up with a beginning scenario they find interesting but once they move past it, they lose interest or don't know where to go. When the thread ends the next one will be.Oh yeah.Historically, consistency and reliability is king.
>>4244614I feel like we really can't answer the question without knowledge of the original setting or where you plan to make your fanfiction about. The best you can get is simply "what compels you more?" which I know can be unhelpful when you don't really know that answer.

QMs, when do you make a new thread? When yours goes over the bump limit? Before that?
>>4245057Page 8 at least
>>4245057Usually a week after the last one falls off the board. Basing off of bump limit is dumb, even after it passes you usually have a week or more of life from the thread, if not two weeks. The only reason you'd make a new thread before that is if you hit image limit, which is unlikely.

How essential do you believe being a drawfag is to a quest? Is the edge in being able to produce okay to good art so powerful that it inherently makes a quest better than one that may have slightly better writing? Do you feel more drawn to or attached to quests that are ran by drawfags? Or do you really not give a shit and hold other aspects as far more important?
>>4246960>How essential do you believe being a drawfag is to a quest? Not at all...? Art enhances a quest undoubtedly but it doesn't need to be drawn by hand by you...

Quality writing has a harder time grabbing anons from the catalog.>Do you feel more drawn to or attached to quests that are ran by drawfags?Yes.That might seem hypocritical compared to what I said previously, but it's just my personal, subjective position that I can't really defend or explain.Maybe I'm subconsciously just still waiting for Drew to return.>Or do you really not give a shit and hold other aspects as far more important?Subject matter and execution are by far the most important to me.For example, Skeleton Island Thing seems solid, but it's not my bag and I'd rather play a text-only quest that rings my chimes.

so I wanna run a quest first mistake where you're a mad scientist transforming kidnapped little girls into monsters/pets for various elite clientelewith the focus being on the mcs egomaniac goals as they branch deeper into mad science in an "original" worldsince I'll have fun no matter what, how do I make it not fetishy?
all attempts to make a generic civ running guide throughout the years have failed even though it should be relatively simple (here be your civ, here be some enemy civs, here be random creatures to meet and places to explore, here be random events that happen to your civ over time, map may or may not be necessary, have fun)It probably would have to focus more on the note taking aspects of the civ game than most guides that I've seen over the years but that's also a delicate question It is a subject matter that is not much discussed, most QMs do not explicitly describe how they keep notes because the notes are just for themselves and much of it isn't even formalized, they just jot down a few words that will make them remember a concept and that's itStill it would be interesting to know how QMs handle their notes, specially in longer quests where you need to keep track of hundreds of characters, monsters, places and civilizations which in theory would be interacting with each other but obviously aren't because QM can't keep track of a billion interactions per turn since he isn't a computer so it would be interesting to see what kind of abstractions QMs come up with to control the complexity hikes.

Any quests for opportunists where you dont play the good guy just do the most pragmatic and beneficial thing?
>>4247578Every quest. Anons always play MCs like that.
>>4247578this is a Lawful Good board pal
How do you make a MC that is heavily addicted to some drug and the drug gives strong penalties to him but don't have the players instantly go "just quit it lol"
>>4247639Have it also give big bonuses. Write the MC as having no desire to quit.
>>4247639"You decide enough is enough, it's time to quit. Just after one last dose..."
>>4246963>>4246967>>4247025>>4247119Thanks for all the input boys.
>>4247466I guess it doesn't just have to be little girls, it would be a bit limiting. Actually the little girls could even be an upgrade, that'd be a lot better. Thanks anon.>>4247499Yes I think I'll need them. Robust mechanics would be necessary for a mad scientist quest since players usually hate passive research and it's never been a joy for me either.>>4247458>>4247466I ain't gonna write sex silly anons, this is a blue board.
>>4247768Something can be completely without sex and still be weird and fetishy. Not limiting it to little girls would be a step in the right direction.
>>4247768C'mon anon, we all know that this mad scientist sooner or later will be making the lolis into quad amputees with big titties and huge buttplug enemas of some mind altering drug or another into them just like in those sadpanda galleries you like you perv. Gotta take this thing to Akun.
>>4247768I'll be up front, honest, and without any insults whatsoever. It's literally entirely the fact that you're focusing on little girls. That's the whole problem. You said that even if you'd reduce the little girl aspect, you'd make them an 'upgrade'. That's a Problem, and smacks of a fetish. You'd need to turn that out and focus SOLELY (not primarily, SOLELY) on the mercantile and likely lawperson-avoiding aspects of it to remove the fetishes and make it something possible to be played and appreciated here. Otherwise, everyone's just going to insult you. That's just how this place is, simple as that. If you're dead set on the little girl part of it, you really would be better off in Akun/Fiction.live; people may be saying so insultingly, but the fanbase on that site is, indeed, FAR more receptive to such quest types.
>>4247866You know what? You're right. It's gotta be little boys!Nah for real though, you're right. It's too much even for bait. The lore reason was going to be war orphans since they're children people won't miss but letting the players determine their source stock, their quality and acquisition risk, is far better. No point in taking a good choice like that away to focus on only little girls.
do you guys think there is a need for a civ thread general right now in the board? there are maybe six minor civ type threads going on right now, not sure if it is enough to warrant interest on a general, civ generals are only made once in a blue moonI'm not gonna make it by the way, just throwing the idea out there
Has anyone tried Co-Qming to produce better content? I would think having somone to bounce ideas off of and strip some of the fat or inspire more ideas when the tank is empty would drastically lower the chance of so many 3 thread QM's that start great and vanish or 15 thread QM's with great ideas but less than 50 replies due to poor execution. That QM that does Mass effect has fucking great potential and drive but he posts such HUGE text walls that could very easily be cut down into really well written bite size pieces that include players more frequently and increase response time. There are other QM's in a similar situation that could really benefit from having another writer just come in and organize/offer advice and story ideas. I think /QST/ could really boom if QM's new and old had something like this.Or does that sort thing just not work? What do you guys think?
>>4247924Civ thread generals always descend into bullshit civ graph shitposting in my experience, and six civ threads is not quite enough to make a general. Most of them are probably already dead.Won't stop you from making it if you want to though.

>>4247938Hunter Command and Cain Labs do it. They are pretty good at it actually.
>>4247947But if your quest was failing and a second set of eyes could objectively make it better and more streamlined wouldn't it be worth sacrificing your "Muh story and characters" ego?
>>4247958My quest isn't failing, but no, that wouldn't be worth it. If I can't run something on my own, it doesn't deserve to exist.
>>4247938I seem to recall someone did do that once upon a time, but they had difficulty trying to do it at the same time. This is just a very vague memory from a passing mention so I could be wrong.
>>4247960What quest are you running?
>>4247968You think I'm attaching a name to my QTG posts? Are you crazy?
>>4247969All I'm saying is some Qm's could really benefit from a helping hand, not a creative takeover but just a creative nudge to keep them going or to improve writing abilities and produce better content for anons and strengthening the overall board. I'm sure anons have a lot of great ideas but either never have the balls to run them or run them and fall flat on their face, either way they just become lurkers or abandon ship altogether.Equally i'm sure there are a lot of Vets that are running quests that just aren't as popping as they used to be and would benefit from a creative reboot to get them going again. If that's crazy then fuck it
>>4242898He is dare I say something of an oldfag now.I know I used to see him in the replies to HQQ threads when that was a thing.
>>4247977>All I'm saying is some Qm's could really benefit from a helping hand, not a creative takeover but just a creative nudge to keep them going or to improve writing abilities and produce better content for anons and strengthening the overall board. Well come on then put some names to that statement, maybe said names would be willing to hear it if they knew it applied to them. That said just having *a* co-qm or editor or the like isn't the same as having a *good* editor or co-qm, for the cases of if people best suited for such would be willing to invest so much without compensation, and whether the people most willing to do it for a person would be well suited to such either.
>>4247977I take no issue with the concept of a co-QM. If QMs want to collaborate with somebody else, that's cool. If that helps their motivation, brainstorming, etc. all the power to them. I take issue with your condescending attitude. You seem to believe that all quests could benefit universally and objectively from having a co-QM, and that the only reason someone might not want one is because of "ego"(???). Isn't there an equal chance a brand new co-QM could cause massive issues? That they could butt heads with the original QM and make it unfun to run/introduce public shitstorms? That the players dislike the new plot directions/characters/voice introduced by the new QM? That enforced collaboration could lengthen update times? Why would "veteran QMs" suddenly want to induct somebody they don't know into the creative work they've been running for months or years? Who says this random "other writer" is even any good, or knows better than the person who had the vision in the first place? Why must all quests universally be "saved"? Are you a QM? Real question.
>>4247768Pretty sure this is already a horror TTRPG anyways. You play "dolls" that wake up in an apocalypse and really everything you describe except you are the creepy little girl instead of the creep using little girls, and is therefore objectively better.
>>4247938I tried to do an Exquisite Corpse style quest. The first thread was good. None of the others took off.
I think co-qming could be hellishly fun actually, but both qm's have to agree on what the quest is trying to accomplish. Otherwise, a meltdown will come sooner or later. Look at Magical Girl Noir Quest for example; a fuckton of write-ins got non-cannoned because they introduced elements that the original QM didn't agree with.Otherwise, hell yeah, I'd co-qm.
>>4248021Nechronica, that's the one.
>>4248024To be fair, a ton of the write-ins were also shit.
>>4248027Yeah I agree lol

>>4248018>You seem to believe that all quests could benefit universally and objectively from having a co-QM, and that the only reason someone might not want one is because of "ego"(???).M8 I literally said SOME Qm's could benefit from a co-QM and listed examples for you lol what are you on about? Also I don't think everyone that wouldn't want a co-Qm has an ego at all. Quite the opposite, if you can successfully run a quest on your own more power to you! However I think YOU don't want one because YOU have an ego, you literally said you wouldn't hypothetically want objective help for your HYPOTHETICALLY failing quest just because you "don't want someone else mucking around with my story and characters" Which considering I don't know nor do I care about your quest sounds like you have a shit quest anyway.>Why would "veteran QMs" suddenly want to induct somebody they don't know into the creative work they've been running for months or years?Again I already gave you an example m8. If a vet Qm has a quest that isn't popping and wants to revive it a co-QM could be the new set of eyes that are needed to get the creative juices flowing again>Who says this random "other writer" is even any good, or knows better than the person who had the vision in the first place?>Why must all quests universally be "saved"?I don't know why you are so defensive about this? No other writer is better than another. Everyone brings something different to the table. I think your problem is that you have never had someone sit down with you and help you with anything. And that's not a bad thing it just sounds like you don't know what it means to help a fellow writer with projects. It isn't this corporate "YOU NEED TO CHANGE THIS THIS AND THAT" kind of thing I think you have in mind. It's just one writer making suggestions and ideas to another. There is a reason there are writing teams, editors, etc. I'm just trying to start a conversation about getting QM's to collab more so the whole board grows dude lol >Are you a QM? Real question.Of course. I shared Ideas with another Qm recently and he pointed shit out to me that I hadn't even thought of for my setting, few mechanics and character ideas. I'm speaking purely from experience, I needed outside eyes on my ideas and it helped big time
>>4248113A hundred percent. I don’t regret my time here in the slightest, and have no plans on stopping anytime soon.
>>4248017I already mentioned the one I think who could benefit most, the dude who runs the mass effect quest. He has a great idea on his hands but it's ruined by these massive text walls that could easily be cut down to manageable and fun pieces. He doesn't get many replies (Usually under 100) but is on like part 12 which shows that he has the drive to put out content despite not getting a lot of attention

>>4248173>>4248180One of you likes making characters, the other likes making setting.I think you guys would have fun making a fantasy adventure based quest. I'm looking to test out my polished up combat system for a future quest. I can post some lore, but there won't be much in the way of story-choices. Is that something I can do here in the general or should I create a separate thread for that?
>>4248351>Is that something I can do here in the general or should I create a separate thread for that? Here should be good enough. If you want to specifically target your followers for said discussion it might be good to tweet out a temporary discord to talk about it.
>>4248356That's not a bad point, though I am wary about discord and separate discussions. I could also test it out in the tail end of one of our usual threads.
>>4248365Discord is bad. Then again in qst you will get people from both side of the discord discussion.Discord is cancer and puts a wall for new players to join. As the discussion is moved to discord rather than the thread so new players are in the dark. And discord you get ton of shit posts.
>>4248365Tail end of a thread would be best IMO.Or a teaser opener. Your players Stan BCQ *hard* so there's no way they would be upset no matter where in the thread you put it.Fuck, toss it up on a day you can't or don't feel up to making a StV update.
>>4248351>Is that something I can do here in the general or should I create a separate thread for that? Here is good but a separate thread would work as well and might get more of your followers that don't come here.
>>4247455>>4247428The fact that you seemed to be unaware of the fact that focusing solely on little girls intrinsically makes a dark idea seem like a fetish, gives me zero confidence in your ability to run a quest with dark concepts and not push it into your fetishes. And just because your fetishes might not involve actual sex means nothing.Your posts reminds me of another idea that was run up the up flagpole here where they took a dark idea and wanted to push it edgier. If you want to run a dark idea of mad scientists and misery, then run those ideas but let the ideas, characters, and events pull the story in the direction that excites you. It will happen without you pushing it, because you want it.It's like wanting to write sex without writing smut. You don't start with a little smut and try to work out how to keep it from becoming "really bad smut". Start with romance and trust that the sex will happen, because it will, because you want it.Start with a quest about mad science and trust that the misery and darkness will happen because you want it.If you immediately push for the aspects you desire to write about, it always comes across as fetish-fuel, as if the only reason you are writing anything at all is so that you can one-handedly type about "X".But also yeah, if you focus solely on little girls, children, or the attractiveness of the victims, it immediately screams fetish.

what do you guys think about the harassment some QMs are suffering lately from TLD
>>4248455>Rumble of Scientific Triumph intensifies
Man, there's a lot of civ quests popping up lately. Seem to be two specific types, too. The kind that start out with a specific race and setup already in mind, and the stock 'choose everything' minimalist start type. Will be interesting to see if any last and for how long.
>>4248773Only a grand total of one QM is “suffering”. At best, TLD is just wasting his time. Anyone who would describe getting called out by strangers on an anonymous board “suffering” wins the Sheltered Bitch award.
>>4248773Isn’t it like 2 QMs that often seek attention anyway? Why should I care?
>>4248812Nobody should.
>>4248805Am I like the only person out of this entire board to utterly despise the "civ thread pick race and location" shit? It feels like shitposting inexplicably. It's like those Questy or NotQuesty threads that get literally single digit replies and keep being made anyway, what the fuck is the deal with both of these shits? Who keeps making them? Why won't they stop?
>>4248826I kinda agree with you, actually.
>>4248826I find it kinda creepy, but oh well. Melancholic Quest kept going for like 4 years at that rate. Maaan.
>>4248826the pick race and location shit is mostly one guy who been doing it nonstop since /tg/ timesthere are many other guys who copy him now and then, but he's been doing this the longest, he either finishes a thread and starts another right away or more often just drops it with no explanation given and just starts another, sometimes he disappears for awhile but he always comes backpeople call him civshitter, because he shat countless civ threads over the yearshis threads are not exactly bad, some are pretty good even, it is just that we never know if he is going to stick with it or he'll just randomly abandon it again

Starting an isekai quest tomorrow, premise is you died, reincarnated, and got given the cheat skill "Miracle Gatherer", which increases the quality of items you pick up, things like ores, plants, monster bits etc.One question: Is character creation something people might want or do people want a blank slate "Average Guy" which I make the backstory for? I would want people vote on things like name, age, general build if they wanted to vote but normal guy works too.
>>4249240Chargen is death. Unless you are playing Code Vein; then it's half the game.
>>4249240It depends. Do you want people to literally fill out a character sheet, or write-in everything? It's death. Is it a narrative with compelling choices? It'll be fine.

Write-in names are generally awful, with occasionally awesome exceptions. The best chargen is built into the narrative. I want to deconstruct how HeroQM did it for Quirkless Quest. Other anons might have been in it for the fanfic, but I never saw the source IP and got sucked in by the chargen and it felt like every choice mattered.Honestly, my objective appraisal of my limited and biased exposure to quests is:Well defined MCs are bestCharacter selection of premade MCs is a close secondNatural and organic character creation is third but not effortless to achieve Chargen of relevant character features is okayBlank slate is okayChargen everything is badRandom is worstAll that said, deconstructing anything would be, like, fourth down on my quest ToDo List.I'm just killing time while on hold.

>>4251698>Are you still using the rules? Do any anons understand the rules?Nobody understand his rules because they make no sense. Population grows 15 times without nobody being born. No matter how much food you gather, more and more people starve, despite them not starving with lots less food. Technology advances leaps and bounds in a spam of months with no good explanation. There are lots more weird things about his system but these are just the more obvious ones that come to mind. Don't expect his system to be widely adopted by anyone. In fact, don't even expect him to reuse it after his thread is done without plenty of adjustments.

>>425201091m10 for sure, fucker lost his way. Speaking of trolls, I’m actually considering running a semi-serious quest with TLD as the MC. Somebody send help.
>>4251810I largely agree, but I do think there's credit due to the system. It's nonsensical, sure, but it does manage to codify and add structure to a lot of things you'd try to do during a civ. It doesn't sound like a big thing, but a lot of civ's I've seen just completely wing it without any fixed rules at all. How technology or magic is developed is kind of a weird thing to model in this kind of medium, and I think the system is a decentish first go at it. Food, population growth, and shit like that can be a nightmare to figure out right, as the game has shown.I really think a lot of the problems come from the problem of simulating long time frame developments such as the emergence of technologies like selective breeding while also being able to tell a more personal story about individual characters doing things. It's a tough problem to solve. I feel like sci fi games have the best chance at dealing with it, since it's reasonable to assume a very fast pace of technological innovation and technologies that extend lifespans and shit. In a low tech/fantasy game you'd have to rely on long lived fantasy races and make liberal use of timeskips, I guess.>>4251872>>4251900A word on archived moe is that it doesn't update real time perfectly, so it's possible for a post to get deleted by a jannie before the site archives it. I've seen it happen
>>4251698>Are you still using the rules?I am, absolutely. They work well so far. >Do any anons understand the rules? In that, some have reliably demonstrated that they can predict outcomes, do the math, and catch me when I occasionally forget something or screw it up, yes. Those players are awesome. In that they understand its functions and could or would it themselves, I don't think so.The system is all about making the players work to gain the ability to do more actions whole making racial stats and perks relevant but less important than developments.>>4251810>Population grows 15 times without nobody being born. No matter how much food you gather, more and more people starve, despite them not starving with lots less food.I have successfully replicated the confusion of D&D's "Hit Points" not being the amount of damage a PC can take and "Damage" not being actual damage to a PC.Truly horrifying.I gotta rename "Population", still thinking of changing it to " Workforce".>Technology advances leaps and bounds in a spam of months with no good explanation.1. They are rebuilding civilization, not ascending from primitives.2. This is actually an intentional design element and not a problem of the system. A Civ can be presented slowly with the narrative events having immediate weight and consequence or it can be presented rapidly, with the only consequences that matter being those that reflect on the civilization as a whole. I chose the former which necessarily slows the progression of the civilization due to the more granular passage of time. Slowing it even further by only allowing developments to proceed at an arbitrary rate was undesirable. In other words, progress was slow enough already because I chose to focus on the effects of events and actions from an individual perspective.3. An elf did it. Elves are superior!>In fact, don't even expect him to reuse it after his thread is done without plenty of adjustments. So far, it's working fine. Combat was a little hairier than expected between tiers, but that was intentional. Fighting unknown or stronger enemies is going to be dicey.I feel that presentation is the biggest issue with what's been used so far.A big thing it's missing is conveying the general idea that the system is a big chugging obstacle in the way of the players' getting more Actions each turn and that they are not intended to ask for permission from it, but instead, modify the system with their developments, hacking into it and changing the numbers in their favor.>>4251822>He did say it was an evolving system so expect plenty of changes and improvisation in the coming threads.Yeah, that hotfix of granting ten pips to the base Development worked out well. Otherwise races with low stats would take years to develop anything.>In any case creating a simple, intuitive and sensible game system takes time and a lot of playtesting.Definitely.
OK /qtg/, what would be a better arc for a protagonist: >A character that's basically a fish out of water and has to lie, cheat, steal and bullshit everybody and everything to achieve their goals? >A character that starts off strong/compitent, gets their shit rocked, has doubts, but then ends up being a better person than who they were when the quest started?Pic Unrelated.
>>4252077Sounds like a webnovel protag instead of a PC.
>>4252077That second one is just Irue.
>>4252042>the problem of simulating long time frame developments such as the emergence of technologies like selective breeding while also being able to tell a more personal story about individual characters doing things.I can only imagine one way to both, and the closest examples I can think of would be like "being Human" or "Isle of Woman" where short stories are told at various points throughout the life of civilization from the perspective of "reincarnated" characters. I might try that eventually, but the little signs of progress as a civilization forms are too interesting for me to gloss over.

He tried to take over the world years ago for some lebensraum, failed and is now hiding out and presumably still quite salty about it and may be trying more underhanded means, or more of his (unaffiliated) lot might well turn up and have another go. There's only so many ways to describe shooting a marine in the head. It's kind of exacerbated by the fact that my players are reluctant to use anything other than the gun that shoots bees.
What would your advise be to someone trying to draw people into a quest of an established setting who might not normally be interested/know nothing about it? I'd already planned to explain things in a bit more detail than someone already familiar with the setting might need.

>>4254060Scholar anon, do you know what is the favorite quest subject for each group?
>>4254335I don't think there's much in terms of data to lay the foundation for any assumptions pertaining the preferences for players grouped by geographic characteristics. However, if you wanted to make an assumption no matter what, then you might want to look at the defining characteristics of boardgames coming from each region:>Burger games are colorful, easy to set up, light on rules and can be played, on average, with a group of four people. Themes are light-hearted, and incorporate mechanics of randomness to even the playing field, sometimes to the point of making the game devoid of tactics. The major components are made of cheap materials, like plastic and flimsy cardboard.>A Eurofag game is a rules-heavy, economically driven game that can lack any and all aesthetics. Themes can be arbitrary, but are more likely to be much more realistic. Randomness is replaced by rigid systems that allow for extensive strategizing, players are more often than not pitted against each other without direct means of attack. Instead, denial of actions, resources or opportunities are your weapons. Material quality is king: Woodwork, heavy cardboard, detailed prints, weighted chips - the works. >NEET games are... rare, honestly. They combine elements of the two, however seem much more experimental in their theme and execution. If you have ever held a japanese OINK game, you know what I mean. Minimalist design seems paramount, however. Easy and concise rules, high-quality materials - but no piece without purpose. With his, you could theorise about a type of quest that will do well for each of the three groups as outlined by the current day design philosophy of boardgames:>Burgers would enjoy a drawquest most - a unique art style is a huge plus. Theme is very important, having a well rounded story will carry you the extra mile - a bombastic powerfantasy could also do the job. On the flip side, keep rules to a minimum, use arbitrary dice rolls instead. >Yuro's will appreciate your speadsheet autism. If your rules make sense at the very least, they will go along to outplay you, their imaginary foes and themselves with glee. Encourage long term planning, rope them in with well-crafted responses to their actions. Story is nice to shake things up, but is not the focus here. >NEET-Lords need a bit of both. Give them something novel, a new spin on established themes with a pinch of yuro-autism while putting on a good show, and they will flock to your quest. Bonus points for minimalist design: no rule too complicated, no NPC without a purpose, no option without your passion behind it.With all this said, please collect your metric tonne grain of salt at the exit, so you can appreciate how I pulled all of this out of my very own ass.
>>4254184Krita is good. You don't *need* a tablet, it helps but you can use a mouse just fine.

Do you prefer isekai, or the character to be native to the world? Why?
>>4254601Native. Isekai is not compelling in the slightest and does not tend to have goodn characterization
>>4254405>But how do you avoid the players who whine and spam when things don't go their way?Avoiding whiners is easy. It's called "ignoring".Spammers are rare. The righteously incoherent ones even more so.Generally, if you are gracious and upfront about how the quest will go, and stick to it, players don't pitch too much of a snit.A classic example is the first thread of Sworn to Valour. Oh, they might still whine sometimes, but that's normal. It has been said that screaming is the only truly objective measure of a quest. The only method to ensure that no players will whine is to not run in the first place.Haters gonna hate.
>>4254601>Do you prefer isekai, or the character to be native to the world?Native.>Why?Native instantly makes sense and doesn't come with a lot of questions that need to be addressed intelligently but instead often instead ignored under the pretense that mindlessly adhering to bullshit nonsense tropes is somehow a good thing. That said, isekai fits questing very well as players are already inserting themselves in another world. And isekai *can* be done well, just not when the creator insists that the audience ignore them handwaving away all logic and basic human emotional responses in order to move past the setup and get into the story.Imagine an action story where the mc has an assault rifle because it's an action story, and no in-story explanation is given for the presence of the weapon, even if it's Conan. That's most isekai writing.

Why dodge them to point at a bogeyman of non-explanationBecause the major issues I have with isekai stem from the lack of explanation, which in turn stems from bad or lazy writing. In hindsight, I have to admit that much of my issue is predominantly with resurrection isekai, which has a lot more to explain. Many standard isekai do explain the travel and at least attempt to mention the questions that would immediately arise and portray the mc as something resembling a functioning human being. The only exception in my memory is isekai powers. In stories where the isekai gets powers just for showing up, I can't recall any solid explanation for why it happens.Resurrection isekai is much, much worse and literally the only decent version of it I an aware of was already mentioned in the thread and actually didn't initially explain anything, but strongly hinted that there *were* explanations to be had if you read the later books, which I should do.This is all worsened by defenders who explain things by offering non-explanations like variations of "It's okay because it's just the trope!" Or like the time an anon explained isekai from other worlds showing up by saying that it was normal because it happens all the time in that world.>that doesn't exist in most of the genre?See how now it sounds like you're suggesting that you are intimately familiar with at least 51% of the entire genre?Do you even know how many works that is? I sure don't."Many" is our friend.

>>4255041We got confirmation that he was alive last time on the 5th of April from his twitter. He has thankfully recovered from the disease but he is busy. One of the core symptoms of the Rona is headaches and mental fatigue so him recovering from it in spite of his condition is promising. But with some of the detailsthat surfaced in King Crimsion quest we learned that he is of asian decent and lives on the east coast of the US one of the most hard hit areas. With rumours of reinfection of the virus being more lethal than the initial infection until he updates we are left with one of several possibilities. 1. Stando is in a work binge unlike any he's ever experienced, his particular vocation has heavily increased demand from the pandemic and he barely has time to sleep and eat, let alone update his twitter.2. Stando got reinfected and died so quickly he couldn't even tell us he was dying. 3. Stando was never supposed to return, but the ungodly powerful meme magic from the hoppening and Simi posting was strong enough to bring him back for one last thread. 4. Stando's spirit has been consumed by the product of our hubris just as Mic's spirit was consumed by the first great ritual. Stando was cosumed by the second great ritual, known as the hoppening and it's power has taken root in the new MHA quest which is getting insane gets and rolls just as we did. In turn that quest will be reduced to a pitiful half-life by another great ritual of meme magic consuming the spirit of its QM. I'm hoping for the best but I have deep fear in my heart. Has our god sacrificed Stando's soul to create the unending mountains of glorious Miruko porn we now find ourselves in? Is this the cost we pay so that snu-snu may bring itself to the unenlightened? As we speak plague rides across all the lands of earth and great swarms of locusts ravage the middle east and africa soon to bring a great famine projected to kill 258 million people. Will the third horseman soon be upon us? Is this our doing? Have our memes begot the return of Christ and thus the great catastrophes that proceed his return?

>>4255592There were signs that he began to fear the product of his creation. It is a pretty good chance that he is so disturbed by this power that he won't run the quest anymore. All I wanted was a quest of vampires, secret societies and conspiracy, why did you /x/ niggers have to ruin it by creating a minor god? I suppose it's for the best. We can ruminate in the ashes of what was but it changes nothing. Even if he never comes back Stando will live on in our memories. There never has been and never be a quest like SQR ever again for better or worse. If Stando's accomplished anything it's that he's made something that won't easily be forgotten. The fact that people go out of thier way to check if he's alive every single week says something. So many great quests have mysteriously been cut short without explanation and not a word has been spoken about them since they've vanished. I doubt people will stop asking soon. Anons will be waiting, weeks, months, even years just for a single utterance from his lips that he even lives. See you guys at the 4555555 and 5555555 gets.

Tgchan's more drawquest friendly but has a sizeable furry presence. There's also MS Paint Fan Adventures but you'll lose the "live QM" factor quests have. Would anyone be interested in a quest set in League of Legends verse? I feel like it's also important to mention that that MC wouldn't be overpowered nor would there be any lewd content.
>>4255859Ew.
>>4256363Mostly depends how narrow you want to make it.A "pre-league" story would be interesting, as would a "post-league" setting with a majority of champions retired. The biggest barrier to fan-fiction quests is the amount of prior art making it incredibly difficult to satisfy your reader's versimilitude: You have a lot of characters you need to maintain characterization of and/or invent new characterization for without flanderizing or debasing them. The simplest solution is to escape that problem entirely: A prequel story with no bearing on the main continuity or a sequel story that leaves current material as historical record.
>>4256008>I've read a shit-ton of isekai reincarnation fiction and only encountered a single work where the method and reason for the reincarnation, as well as any divine boons granted, weren't explained.I can't really recall many standard isekai with bs isekai powers, honestly. Probably due to my personal interests skewing away from that. I think El-Hazard was the one I was thinking of. Which I remember because I found it very enjoyable. The problem is that, unlike many QM-haters, if I don't like something, I specifically don't put thought into it or effort into remembering it.Once a story introduces death, has the mc wake up and shrug it off, I stop reading and move on. I don't write the name down in a hate journal. But if you are so well versed in explanations for isekai reincarnation explanations, can you provide a top ten list of different explanations? Or maybe a top five?Just the explanations, no need to cite the source or give full details. Just the why and how if an mc being reincarnated in another world (power explanation optional)

I’ve got two questions with the second being a bit more complex1) On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being absolutely retarded, how bad of an idea is it two run two quests simultaneously?2) I’m thinking about doing an isekai quest but I guess what you would call the prologue covers an entirely different genre and has a more serious tone to it. If I lay out the wall of text prologue immediately I might chase players off, but if I let them play it I’ll pretty much end up railroading them to their deaths and once they get into fantasy land, the shift might be too jarring. To anyone who answers this, which option would be the lesser of the two evils? I’m also willing to listen to solutions that don’t involve the two that I thought up.

>>4257233>1) On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being absolutely retarded, how bad of an idea is it two run two quests simultaneously?7, you can't really run them both daily unless they aren't really very time consuming and you can do one update a day sort of deal or you are a NEET so you gotta bullshit both your audiences to split your time and run your quests on different days, or maybe run one of them on weekends. It is totally doable, lots of QMs done it before, even more than two even, but it is a lot of work.>2) I’m thinking about doing an isekai quest but I guess what you would call the prologue covers an entirely different genre and has a more serious tone to it. Just don't make it take longer than one thread, for fucks sake.
>>4257233>>4257249This anon is correct on both questions. An alternative approach to the "railroaded" prologue would be to write it up as an optional short story and include it attached in a pastebin or something at the beginning of the isekai quest. It's hard to say which would be objectively better, but I think players would probably get more invested in playing the prologue.

>>4258775You’re reading far too into it. TLD is just the hero /qst/ deserves, but not the one it needs.

>>4258972Wow.>vitriol>hate>rant>attackingMore words you need to go look up the actual meaning of.The only "crime" I'm accusing you of is not understanding what the words you are using actually mean. And I stand by that accusation.Regarding the part you quoted:Your opinion of what some anon is matters less than what your perception of words mean because it is your subjective imagined opinion and unverifiable, whereas your perception of what these terms you mean and your use of them can be objectively compared to their actual meaning to determine exactly how wrong you are. This *also* doesn't matter because we're just some strangers on the internet and proving that you don't have any idea what you're talking about doesn't really matter. Therefore, it's only worth getting into if you particularly feel like "picking it apart", because then it would be worth it to you.No anger. No hate.No emotional involvement whatsoever.Just a basic knowledge of what words mean and the idle observation that you were misusing them either intentionally or out of ignorance. If you don't stop being so oversensitive to criticism and seeing hatred where there is only a statement of fact, it will continue to make you look silly. But you do you, silly anon.

>>4259734There are some key fundamental differences between quests and tabletop sessions, primarily centered around the increased focus on the QM leading the narrative independent of the players all showing up or showing up at the same time, as well as live sessions played in real-time.Ignoring that, vrchat or vtuber seem like they would be good for live sessions, but tabletop simulators and such might be better for ttrpgs, and quests are heavily dependent on I of previous updates. I have no idea how readable and savable the chat logs of those would be.That, and the heavy focus on live sessions, would be the only issue. If you had a solid group of dependable players, it would totally be viable. But that's also true of running a quest in a Discord. If you don't have the players, you are basically trawling for randos and might as well run here, another questing site, or roll20 or some site with a player base.>Why don't I just run a Quest (or even a tabletop session) in VRchat? So, in short, the answer is because nobody likes you.Or maybe they do, but can't be assed to play live sessions with you for whatever reason.

I've seen podcasts having TRPG sessions before anyway. As for running sessions inside VRchat, there are many comfy campfire worlds to chose from. Probably engage the audience for input via a chat stream. I wonder how to choose or manage having VR guests(via invite) in the same world.

>>4261553>like a normal personIt was a good try until that
>>4261605A decrease in new quests being churned out, and likely abandoned, is not evidence of decreased activity. You're using the wrong metric. That's like saying an update is good because it has over 3000 characters. If some dickwad suddenly cycled his IP to crank out 40 shit quests, that wouldn't make /qst/ bustling with active anons. If you are going to shitpost, do so with accurate and appropriate metrics.
>>4261628>Moon runesOkay then. There's probably a twit switch I could flick, but I ain't gonna get into it.>>4261626Well, like I said, if you have decent a group, it's completely viable.Shit. Anons used to run quick ttrpg sessions in the prison on /tg/'s SS13 server. The station would blow up and they would all respawn and reconvene. It's far from shocking to me.But quests don't usually have groups that contact each other and get together for sessions and mostly depend on the players all showing up, like ttrpgs do.Quests are usually run by one QM and a variable audience and often require new players being able to read what's happened so far without slogging through chat logs.Is that viable on those venues? Is there a pool of interested players to draw from? These are the relevant questions regarding quests.People playing live sessions of ttrpgs over unique internet venues isn't revolutionary, really.

>>4263560Each civ QM is free to develop his own system. Some do a better job than others. Some merely copy the external indicators from some other more established QM and call it a day, half-assing a system. Usually these copycats civ fail because the copied system is too unwieldy for the inexperienced QM who not having developed it himself lacks a finer understanding of its features and mangles it until it becomes unusable, or because it just looks good but actually isn't very good and only worked because the other QM was very narratively focused and hand waved a lot of stuff. But basically you gotta choose between a system that attempts to simulate things realistically with hard numbers for population and things, or one that deals with things abstractly with things like units and groups and battalions and detachments. Both approaches work, both have pluses and maluses, and you can even have hybrid approaches.Designing a civ system doesn't take too long nor is too difficult, but there can be no ultimate civ system because ultimately it boils down to preference. I particularly prefer a more "realistic" approach to things like pop growth, so I don't like much civs that start with like 5 or even 100 people because you will need ridiculous amounts of time skips to get to any appreciable size. I think if you have a large civilization, it is reasonable for its population to grow only a few percent per year if at all and it is fun to model that.As for combat system for civ type quests, combat in quests is always problematic, but in civs particularly so because you want the fight to be "fair", so it is difficult to design a good combat system. Usually simple is better so you don't slow down the quest too much, but complex enough to allow a variety of tactics and multi turn combats instead of one roll battles. Combat systems for civs are far harder to design than the rest of the civ system and are often neglected and unbalanced.

I keep wanting to do a ck2 civ but I can't quite strike a good balance between rules that would be satisfying and at the same time wouldn't drive primarily me and secondarily the players completely insanealso I can't draw maps for shit, I've tried before and I just suck at it big time. a civ can work perfectly fine without a map, but having one would be more fun. shit like hexographer for instance might work in a pinch, but would look a bit fugly. Since I'm not good with maps I'm probably just going to assign regional sectors to each province and list what exists in that province (castles, towns, villages, resources, dungeons, etc.), sounds complicated but it is just a nested list, solves the lack of map for all practical purposes.I considered making it multiplayer, but then I would need a rock solid completely fair combat system, also I'd probably have to restrict it to just humans because there is no way in hell to balance properly units from all those weird races from the usual civ chart, and tone down magic a lot or deal away with it completely so people don't raze battlefields with fireballs and tear down castles with earthquakes or meteors and shit like that. But at that point it would be pretty much "just" ck2, no longer a civ thread. If I don't do that I'd end up running a builder instead of a ck2 civ attempt.Another possibility would be playing as a duke or something and players being able to have their own factions withing the civ (counts, barons and such vassals of the duke). The duke would be trying to become king, while the counts and barons would be scheming for more power within and outside the duchy. Would be ridiculously complicated to run, but at least in theory sounds interesting. It kinda has the drawback of being possible for factions being easily extinguished so "weaker" players could be "kicked out" of the game rather easily. There are just too many problems with trying to adapt a game which makes full use of the capabilities of a computer for dealing with massive amounts of data about thousands of characters, locations and interactions in real time to a QM which will struggle to update even a few dozen parameters every turn. It is absolutely essential to make as many things as possible irrelevant so that you don't need to bother generating them neither for yourself nor for presenting them for the players, so you gotta choose what is absolutely essential to keep. Combat for one is essential of course, but what else? Everything else is a bit up for grabs. Is trade essential? Should I bother with micromanaging the economy of every province? Will the players care? Is diplomacy essential? Should I bother creating courts for every noble? Will the players care? Is intrigue essential? Should I bother creating plots in every court? Will the players care? Is research essential? Should I make a huge tech tree and maybe even complex tech spread rules to reduce research times of already discovered techs? Will the players care?

>>4263560>You don't even vaguely follow the rules of the video game?I hope by now you've realized that Civ threads are not based on Sid Meier's Civilization, just like the movie "Porky's" is not based on the Warner Brothers cartoon character.
>>4263688>combat in quests is always problematic, but in civs particularly so because you want the fight to be "fair", so it is difficult to design a good combat system. The thing about combat in quests is that there are infinite ways combats can resolve, but only two questions (per faction) that any combat system needs to answer:Did the faction achieve their goal? What did the battle cost the faction? If the combat system can reliably determine the answers to those questions, then it works and it's up to the QM to present it in a way that is fun and engaging for the players.Quests are never going to be good at being simulationist and shouldn't try.Too often, QMs obsess over the fiddly bits when autistic tweaking with numbers is not the strength of quests. The strength of quests is narrative freedom. Players in quests can do things that they imagine up and add into the quest, the way they can't in video games.Video games need structured combat and excel at elaborately detailed combat.Quests do neither.>>4264594>There are just too many problems with trying to adapt a game which makes full use of the capabilities of a computer for dealing with massive amounts of data about thousands of characters, locations and interactions in real time to a QM which will struggle to update even a few dozen parameters every turn.This.Figure out what will actually happen in quest and focus on what will facilitate that.

QMs, I need a way to put symbols representing the MC and the enemy on a map, in a way I can move them around, do you guys know any software I could use for this?
>>4265656Any free graphics editor, like GIMP or Krita. You need the layers feature.
>>4265504How do you devise a plot without railroading, though?
In really broad strokes. Also, you don't need to devise what _will_ happen, you need to devise what _might_ happen. If the players steer the plot away, just repeat the devising process again in similarly broad strokes. It is also important to have an ending in mind, not to railroad players into it, but to know when to say "the players have reached this point, so the quest is ending."
>>4265672I usually just come up with a bunch of different webs for the plot and let the players take the paths that appeal to them the most. You need some sort of plot or you'll end up meandering with boring votes. It needs to be adjusted for write-in ideas sometimes, but it's pretty kino. Those can be more fun anyway. I think the key is to not get too invested in any one path and find enjoyment in the possibilities of the different directions you craft.
>>4265672>How do you devise a plot without railroading, though?>>4265677>>4265674>you don't need to devise what _will_ happen, you need to devise what _might_ happenThis. These anons are correct.I like to, usually, come up with a story of what would happen if the mc/players never existed. It's usually a "bad" end with a sort of stagnant evil. "The evil that is Aku rules all and there is no joy in Mudville" kind of thing. Then I let the players change everything as they tear through the "plot" like a bull in a china shop.Being paranoid about "railroading" leads to weak quests that go nowhere. Also, premise-defined rails are actually good and expected. If the QM is running a Teen Titan quest and the players keep pushing really hard to Refuse the Call and avoid superhero life, they're still going to encounter the Titans, because that's what it says on the tin, and that's fine.Actual railroading is when the players want to pull away from the expected plot and a different direction and the QM doesn't allow it.Imagine the QM initially wanted the MC to be a heartless bastard, but various actions taken and efforts of players have established that the MC cares about X and then the QM decides that MC is still a heartless bastard and overrides the characterization to make the MC *not* care about X.That would be worse railroading than the players not being able to implement the plan they want to because of new obstacles appearing in their way.
>>4265743> Imagine the QM initially wanted the MC to be a heartless bastard, but various actions taken and efforts of players have established that the MC cares about X and then the QM decides that MC is still a heartless bastard and overrides the characterization to make the MC *not* care about X.This is what went wrong with Necromancer Quest, and what Body Horror quest avoided. That being said, it was BS when the QM plot-armored the waifu to keep her from dying.
