The last three days have been long and very uncomfortable. In hindsight, leaving home with nothing but the clothes on your back and a briefcase may not have been the smartest way to go about things. Even with the new shoes Nathan provided you with, the trip from Cycad Town to Nucite City has left your feet aching as much as your stomach, which hasn’t received a substantial meal in a long while. If nothing else, there is no doubt left in your mind that the great outdoors aren’t really your thing. Despite the troubles that come with traveling the region on foot, things are looking up. During your journey, you managed to win a few battles and bond a bit more with your Pokémon, namely Armo and Asher. The two were a handful at times, but you enjoyed having someone to travel with even if they did get you into trouble on more than one occasion.

When all is said and done, you find yourself overlooking your destination which lies only a few miles away. Like Cycad Town, there is a large hill located near the city which provides a nice view of the metropolis. Unlike your hometown however, it’s impossible to see the entire city from your perch on this grassy mound and seeing the blurry skyscrapers far into the distance only make you more eager to take a plunge into the unknown once more.

After scanning the hundreds of rooftops once more, you wipe your dirt-covered hands on your equally dirty pants and begin to make your way down the hill. “First, Nathan’s mission, and then the Gym. Then again, ”

>Go to the Pokémon Center

With your priorities in order, you continue your trek down the hill and begin your final leg in the first of many journeys. Slowly, highway bridges, construction sites, and various stores begin replace the trees, valleys, and rolling hills of Route 4 and before you know it, you’ve submerged yourself into the concrete jungle. As you expected, the city is livelier than your usually dormant hometown, almost excessively so, in your opinion. Between the chatter, the music blasting from hundreds of stores, street performers, and the never-ending sound of honking horns, you can hardly hear yourself think. For better or worse, most of the people you come across give you a wide berth due to your disheveled state. Though your feral look is only temporary, you have to admit that you would fit in well with the various homeless people you’ve seen as you maneuver through what appears to be an endless amount of city blocks. After a few unsuccessful attempts at interacting with the locals, you manage to get directions from a rather burned out looking man in his mid thirties, who points you towards one of the city’s many Pokémon Centers before shambling off into the mass of commuters.

When you first enter the building, the receptionist is rather skeptical of you and tries her best not to look in your general direction. After showing her your flashy new Trainer Card however, you are handed the keycard for a room and your Pokémon are taken and stored away. The first thing you do after locating and entering your room is enjoy a nice long shower in order to wash off all of the dirt and grime that you’ve collected over the last three days. This does little for your actual clothing, but it’s a start nonetheless, not to mention relaxing. Over the course of your journey you managed to get the better of a few Trainers in battle, and while you have yet to set up the account on your Trainer Card, you’ve earned enough cash to buy a few essentials at the very least. As you look at the clock on your room’s nightstand, you begin to realize that this adventure may not be as straightforward as you originally had thought.

“I’ve still got some time until Saturday,” you muse to yourself as you gaze at your reflection through the blank TV. “Getting organized now wouldn’t be such a bad idea.”

>Stay inside and properly set up your Trainer Card

Giving it some thought, you decide that you’ve done more than enough walking for today and that you should simply stay put. You pick up the briefcase which you had placed by your bed earlier, and take out the instruction booklet for the Trainer Card. For the better part of an hour, you get to work on setting up your Trainer’s account and filling out various forms. Eventually, once they are returned to you on the retractable pedestal, you get to work on registering all of your Pokémon for the Gym Battles as well. Though a Trainer Card is much larger than more mundane cards such as photo IDs or driver’s licenses, working with such little space is still a hassle. You still haven’t checked out all of the features however, and some of them may prove useful later. Despite this, you feel the urge to do something else with your time before going to bed.

You place your Trainer Card along with its instruction booklet on your nightstand before getting out of the bed and putting on your shoes. You then approach take Armo’s ball out of the briefcase before reducing its size and placing it in your pocket and leaving the room. A quick look at both ends of the hallway tells you that most of the Trainers here are either gone or resting in their rooms. You’re certain that there have to be some people hanging out in the lobby or behind the Center itself, but the idea of simply knocking on a random door also comes to mind.

“I may as well check out the lobby,” you say to yourself as you make your way to the stairwell. “I don’t need any surprises tonight.”

You make your way down the flight of stairs and into the lobby where a few Trainers are either sitting or leaning on whatever they can find to support them. Some of them appear to be in a group together but as with everything, there are many loners as well. As you continue to scan the small crowd while looking as nonchalant as possible, you spot a few individuals that catch your attention. The first one you notice is a girl around your age with blonde, wavy hair and wearing a pair of bright orange headphones. From the looks of it, she seems to be completely lost in thought, though her eyes occasionally wander over to the large clock sitting behind the front desk. The second is a rather lanky looking male with a thin, wispy beard. He looks somewhat familiar, but you can’t seem to remember where you’ve seen him. He’s been looking around the room and nervously tapping his foot on the floor for a while now, so you can only imagine that he’s in some kind of hurry. Finally, a pair a twin girls with wild red hair and matching outfits draw your attention, mostly due to the loud conversation the two are having with each other. Based on what you’ve heard so far, the two are waiting for another group to arrive but the appear to be running late.

Doing your best to avoid looking suspicious, you lean against the wall next to the girl with the orange headphones and take a closer look at the stranger. As you think back, you realize that you may have battled him at some point but the details are a bit fuzzy due to all of the life changing events that have occurred throughout this month. As you gaze upon the stranger once more, he gives a look towards the twins as if he wants to strike up a conversation with them, but he seemingly changes his mind as his focus snaps back to his fancy looking watch. Now the pieces are all coming together and though you’d rather not be dragged into any more wild adventures involving shady organizations, something must be done about this crook.

So OP why does your updates take a long time to post?
>>
>>4244255
Typically, an update will take me anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour to brainstorm, write, edit, and proofread depending on the nature of the update. Recently however, my new job has been taking a pretty big toll on me, which is one of the reasons why I’m mobile posting despite getting my laptop fixed a few weeks ago.

In addition to taking up a lot of time, it’s also been affecting my sleep schedule and I’ve found myself falling asleep while writing updates or waiting for votes. Obviously, I’m going to need to adjust my hours in order to run more efficiently but now that I’m up, I should have some time to crank out a few updates if the votes come in quickly.

>Go back upstairs and take another Pokémon for backup (Remise)

Upon deciding on your approach, you casually peel yourself off of the wall and walk back the way you came. As soon as you reach the top of the stairwell, you bolt towards your room and make your way inside. Quickly slamming the door shut, you enter the living area and slide across your bed before approaching the pedestal. After giving it a bit of thought, you determine that Remise would be the best choice for this situation and reduce the size of his ball as well before taking it with you. Before leaving, you make sure to hide your remaining team members and lock up your room just in case this grunt isn’t the only one lurking around the Center.

When you get back to the lobby, both the grunt, and the twins have disappeared, but no one in the room looks particularly concerned or as if they’re paying any attention to their surroundings. You can only assume that the grunt is either still in the Center when you consider the fact that he seemed to be waiting for someone or, something.

You decide to check out the cafeteria first, and abandon the lobby at a brisk pace. You pass by a few Trainers along the way, but much like the ones in the lobby, they don’t seem to be aware of any potential danger. Upon entering the cafeteria, you quickly scan the room, only to find no sign of your target. The room is mostly empty save for a few individuals quietly eating their meals alone. One of these individuals stick out however, due to his long red hair and steely-eyed look. Though you’re tempted to ask him for whatever assistance he could provide, you still don’t know what you’re dealing with, or if you even have the time to get someone else involved.

‘Better safe than sorry.’ You think to yourself as you quickly make your way to the table’s lone occupant.

You stop just short of the large circular table and knock on its surface in order to get Shane’s attention.”Hey Shane, I hate to bother you, but we’ve got a problem here.”

Shane’s eyes flick upwards from his tray and he gives you a quick once over. It takes him a second, but eventually, a look of recognition makes its way to his features.“How so? Secondly, we haven’t known each other for very long, in fact, I don’t even think we’ve spoken before. Isn’t it a little too early to be calling in favors?”

“Consider it more like a public service, are your brothers around?”

“If anything, that makes me even less interested. To answer your question, those two aren’t my brothers and they were supposed to be here over twenty minutes ago. I have no idea where they could be.”

“Well then let’s dial it back to a personal favor.” You give the exit a quick look before continuing again. “Do you have a Pokémon yet?”

You were a bit hesitant to approach Shane before due to what Sheldon had told you earlier, but to your relief, the stoic boy withdraws a Poké Ball from his pocket and places it on the table. “I do, but you still haven’t explained what’s going on here.”

“There’s a member of Team Offset in the building and it looks like he’s up to something. This could be serious.” You explain, taking yet another look around.

“And you didn’t think to call the police?” Questions Shane in a deadpan tone.

“I’ve battled this guy before and won, so I’m sure I can handle him. I just figured I could use some help just to be sure. I don’t know if he’s working with another person but it looked like he was waiting for someone. There might not be enough time for them to get here even if they were called now.”

Shane take a second to think things over but soon relents with a sigh. “I’ll help you, but if things get too serious we’re letting someone else handle this. Those grunts aren’t good for much, but we can’t afford to be outnumbered.” He then gets out of his chair and walks around the table to join you. “Do you know where he is?”

“I was looking for him, but I ended up finding you.” You respond as the two of you exit the cafeteria. “I know he’s still in here, and there’s only two more places he could possibly be.”

“I think there’s a good chance that he’s in the PC room, we should check it out.”

“Then let’s get moving.” Shane responds as the two of you step into the hallway.

The PC room isn’t too far from the cafeteria and moments later, you arrive at your destination. There, you see the lanky grunt leaning against a wall and typing something on his watch. Aside from him, there are only three other people here but they appear to be wrapping up whatever it is they are doing. Both you and Shane approach two adjacent PCs and attempt to look busy as you wait for the room to clear out entirely. Occasionally, you steal a few glances at the grunt but he doesn’t seem to notice. Eventually, only the three of you remain, and you drop the “innocent bystander” act immediately.

“What errands are we running today, Dan?” You ask mockingly as you and Shane approach him.

Surprised at being unexpectedly confronted, the grunt nearly falls over as he attempts to adopt a more defensive posture. “The name’s Dave. Wait, who are you?” Dave hastily responds as he subtly begins reaching into his pocket.

“Oh come on, at least I remembered what letter your name starts with! How could you completely forget about me?” You ask, somewhat indignant.

“This isn’t the time for banter.” Shane cuts in as he steps closer to Dave. “What are you doing here and how many others are in here?”

“What are you, a junior cop? I’m just minding my own business.” Says Dave unconvincingly as he stands up straight. “I think you have me confused for someone else.”

Without another word, Shane takes out his Poké Ball and releases a Rhyhorn in front of him. The rocky beast stares down the target in front of him and takes a massive step towards the grunt. “Don’t make me ask twice.”

Dave immediately becomes pales as he stares down the imposing Pokémon in front of him. “Like I said, you have me confused with someone else. I have no idea what-“

Dave’s attempts at deception are suddenly cut off as the sound of an explosion echoes throughout the Center. The resulting tremors from the blast throw everyone aside from Rhyhorn off balance, and causes the lights to flicker as you attempt to reorient yourself.

“I’m going to check on that explosion! Make sure this guy doesn’t get away!” You call out to Shane as you break into a run towards the exit.

Leaving Shane and Dave behind, you enter into the hallway again, only to find much of it entirely demolished. To your surprise however, instead of fire and smoke, you instead see a towering Onix standing in your way. The Onix lets out an intimidating wail, and slams its serpentine head into the ceiling above it, causing debris, glass, and tile to come raining down. Before you can formulate a plan, the sound of a powerful engine can be heard near the back of the hall as well as loud rap music. The Onix then disappears in a red flash to reveal a rather flashy looking luxury car entering the Center through the destroyed section of the wall. If you were to make a guess, the Onix had originally entered through the Center’s bathrooms and made its way here, destroying everything else it came in contact with to clear a path. Your detective work is put on hold however, as the engine roars to life again and the wheels of the car begin idly spinning on the floor. It appears this madman is attempting to perform a burnout before running you over!

Rolled: 65
Result(s): Taking a Detour

Wasting no time, you take out the Poké Ball housing Remise and throw it out in front of you.

“Use Aerial Ace and take out his tires, Remise!” You order as the spectral blade begins to take shape.

Over the course of your three day journey, you and Remise came to somewhat of an understanding. After losing his short-lived duel with Sephira, Remise seemed to have gained some sort of respect for you and the power you command. Of course, you had nothing to do with his defeat, but you were hoping that another opportunity to prove your mettle would arrive. As luck would have it, that chance seems to have fallen right into your lap, and you plan on taking advantage of it.

As soon as you give the command, the possessed sword hurls himself at the tire on his left and manages to slice cleanly through the rubber before biting into the rim. As soon as Remise makes contact, a significant amount of air begins to escape from the tire, and the entire car begins to sag on one side. Though you can’t see his face, this obviously angers the driver and he takes his foot off the brakes, causing the car to rocket forward at alarming speeds. You have no time to dodge or even regret standing in the way of a running vehicle, but instead of plowing right through you, the car ends up crashing through another wall and into the PC room.

As you make your way to the crash site, another large hole is made in the wall, this time by the returning Onix who once again stops you in your tracks.

“Yo, Onix! Hold them down, I’ll handle this punk later!” Orders the driver as he emerges from the damaged car.

You only manage to get a brief glimpse of the driver’s shoes before the tail end of Onix clamps down on both you and Remise. You hit the ground hard and immediately begin to feel an enormous amount of pressure on your back as the rocky mass holds you in place. With all of this weight on top of your back, you can’t move your upper body, much less hope to get out from under the statuesque snake. As you pointlessly struggle to free yourself, you hear the sounds of arguing as well as the sound of another Pokémon being unleashed. What comes next is a series of crashes and the sound of more property destruction as Shane battles against the two grunts alone.

Between the music and the sounds of battle, calling out for help is out of the question and you have enough sense to know that if anyone were planning on stepping in, they would’ve been here already. Though things aren’t looking good for either you or Shane, there’s still one last chance for you to intervene in some way. However, you aren’t too sure about either of you options.

>Attempt to roll over so that Armo can escape from his ball

After weighing your options, you decide to go with a classic and rely on Armo to help you out. While his ball is trapped in a cramped space like a briefcase or stuffed in your pocket, there isn’t enough space for him to exit the ball. However, you know that if you can create just enough space for him while trapped under Onix, he might be able to come out and pull off a miracle.

Using every ounce of strength you have, you push yourself up ever so slightly. While this would be impossible had Onix used the main part of its body, the tail is easily the lightest section of the rugged Pokémon. Despite this, even moving an inch takes a lot out of you and you barely manage to roll over before your strength gives out. Though being in this position hurts far worse than the original one you were in, the sight of Armo materializing onto the ground a few feet in front of you makes it all worth it.

Once the light fades from Armo’s form, he immediately jumps upon seeing the destruction around him as well as the large Onix clogging the hallway. He then turns to you and simply shakes his head.

“Yeah, yeah. I know, can you just give me a hand.” You say as you attempt to move into a more comfortable position. “Besides, I technically saved you first.”

Armo rolls his eyes and then leaps onto the rock snake’s tail before running up to its horn and giving it a swift kick. The larger Pokémon voices its displeasure towards its unwelcome passenger before attempting to shake him off. Though you can’t see what happens next, Armo somehow gets the Onix to slither off of you and Remise before both he and he and his stony opponent disappear down the hallway and make a sharp turn into the lobby. You wince as you shakily push yourself to your feet and hold on to what remains of the wall behind you for support. Remise, on the other hand seems entirely unharmed and rises into the air as he awaits your command as you attempt to crack you back.

“Alright,” you exclaim as you stand up straight once more. “Let’s go deal with them!”

Both you and Remise quickly enter the partially demolished PC room as the battle between Shane and the grunts are coming to a close. As before, Dave has Dunsparce backing him up but you main focus is on the new arrival. He’s looks like another male in his late teens or early twenties much like Dave, but unlike his partner, the driver is rather short, standing only two or three inches taller than you. Almost as if to compensate, the driver looks as if he walked right out of a magazine with an expensive looking haircut and an outfit that’s almost as flashy as his car. His style isn’t what keeps your attention however, but rather his Pokémon, which to your dismay is a bulky Pignite.

As you look over the grunts’ shoulders, you see Shane’s Rhyhorn panting heavily as he attempts to fend off both of his attackers. As for Shane, he seems as calm as ever but you can tell that he won’t be able to hold out on his own. Luckily, you have the element of surprise on you side.

“Remise, use Aerial Ace on Pignite while it’s distracted!” You command the floating sword.

At the sound of your voice, both Dave and the flashy driver turn towards you in surprise. Before either can react however, Remise practically vanishes and reappears on the other side of the room, dealing a solid strike to Pignite’s midsection.

“I don’t know how you got out, but you’re gonna wish you stayed down!” Says the driver as he takes a step forward. He then tosses a white and purple card at Dave, which he barely manages to catch. “Go to the PCs and take everything they got! I’ve got these two. Pignite, use Curse!”

For a second, it looks as if Dave is going to protest, but after considering the staggering type disadvantage Dunsparce is at, he runs to the car and grabs two duffle bags before moving towards the PCs. Meanwhile, the driver’s Pignite begins to glow as its Attack and Defenses increase.

“Alright, which one of you bitches wants to get stomped first?” Asks the driver with a cocky grin.

Dave may be skinny, but the chances of you beating him in a fair fight are slim to none given the age difference. However, his hands are full and he’s distracted with the heist so the odds are in your favor. The only problem would be getting past Dunsparce.

I think I may have to change the name of the Aid action in the future so that it’s more flexible, but if you choose it now you can go after Dave and have Remise fight without your instruction.

>Aid Remise (Specify how)
We could try to some outside the box thing, it's pretty dirty and morally wrong, basically we ask him to use shadow sneak buuuuuut, rather than attack ignite we make him sneak the trainer but not to attack him but to posses him and make him return his ignite back to the ball.
>>
>>4247824
Alright, I figured as much.
>>4247838
I don't think Honedge is capable of possession. Just life draining, at least according to the Pokedex.
>>
>>4247844
Well it still worth a shot, we still would incapacitate the trainer, then we could get pignite's ball and recall him back.
>>
>>4247766

>>
>>4247838
As >>4247844 said, I don’t know if that’s possible. I’m not vetoing your idea, but I’ll need to do some research first.

>>4247844
I should note that in situations like these, going after the Trainer is always an option. It all just depends on how you all decide to go about it.
>>
>>4247883
Well, assuming there aren't multiple exits from the room we could at least try and block the way out while we battle the douchenozzle .
>>
>>4247885
That might be a problem since said douchenozzle and his Onix did a bit of interior remodeling on the PC room’s walls. There is another way to hinder their escape, however.
>>
Alright, so I did some research and it turns out that in one instance in the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Honedge was used to posses someone. From the looks of it though, the victim has to initially make contact with Honedge willinglybefore any possession can take place. If anyone still wants to go with the possession angle, I’ll do a bit more digging.
>>
>>4248001
I Changed my mind to the life drain thing to incapacitate him. According to what you said possesion won't work so the best bet would be the life drain, otherwise have both trainers focus on pignite.
>>
>>4247785
>>4247792
>>4247859
>>4248030
Alright, so it seems that our three main options are as follows.

>Focus on attacking Pignite with Aerial Ace

>Battle defensively while using Autotomize

>Have Remise use his life draining ability against the driver

I’ll let this sit for another thirty minutes at the latest. If nothing changes by then we’ll go with Option 1 since it had at least two votes.

Your attention shifts from the driver, to Dave, and back to the driver. “This isn’t going to end like you think it will! Remise, use Aerial Ace again!”

“Attack him from the other side with Bulldoze.” Orders Shane from the far end of the room.

“Is that all you got?” Laughs the driver as the two Pokémon begin their respective attacks. He then turns his attention back to his partner. “Take out the Honedge first with Flame Charge and then we’ll finish Red’s Rhyhorn.”

Pignite pounds it’s fists together before engulfing itself in flames and running headlong into Remise, causing both Pokémon to hit each other simultaneously with Remise taking the brunt of the damage. As the haunted blade falls to the ground, Rhyhorn finally reaches Pignite and charges right into it, kicking up dirt and tile as the two collide. Despite taking what would normally be two devastating hits, the power Pignite gained from Curse significantly reduces their impact and it remains standing tall as it pushes the rugged Pokémon off of it.

“And that’s what happens when you get my way.” Gloats the driver with his arms crossed as he stares you down. “Don’t worry about your Pokémon, because you’re gonna get it a lot worse.”

Much to the surprise of both you and the driver, Remise picks himself off the floor and hovers low to the ground before scrapping himself against the floor and performing a twirl. He looks even worse than he did after his battle with Sephira and yet he refuses to be beaten in one attack a second time. He may be running on fumes now, but his determination gives you one last chance to prove yourself and put a stop to the heist.

“We need to end this now Walter!” Calls Shane from the other end of the room. “Neither of our Pokémon can afford to take another hit!”

With Remise on his metaphorical last legs, you have to agree with Shane’s analysis and come up with a plan end this quickly. If Pignite won’t go down so easily, maybe his Trainer will.

“Use Aerial Ace on Pignite again!” You order Remise as he points his tip towards the burning boar.

“Dumbass,” mutters the driver as he adjusts his jacket. “Hit ‘em with Flame Charge again!”

“Cover Remise using Bulldoze, Rhyhorn.” Orders Shane as the fire pig streaks forward.

Rhyhorn charges once more, shattering the ground below it as it slams headfirst into Pignite’s own attack. As before, the bulk pig shrugs off the attack and pushes the Spikes Pokémon away once more. This however, gives Remise the perfect opening for a clean shot, but you have other plans.

“Go past Pignite with Shadow Sneak and go for its Trainer!” You order before the blade can make contact.

A look of shock appears on both Shane’s and the driver’s face as Remise smoothly transitions into using Shadow Sneak and harmlessly sails through Pignite. The driver on the other hand, is not so fortunate and before he can attempt to get out of the way, Remise wraps his sash around his arm and begins draining his energy. Much like with Armo’s battles against Snover and Paras, small green orbs of energy begin to transfer from the driver to Remise, but the transfer seems far more lethal when a human is involved and the driver quickly begins losing consciousness. The driver desperately struggles to pry Remise off of his arm, but his rapidly fading strength is no match for that of Remise and he unceremoniously falls to the ground like a corpse as the last of the orbs leave him.

“Pignite....” murmurs the cocky driver as he looks up at his partner. “Handle my light work and get us out of here.” As soon the words leave his lips, the driver falls silent prompting Remise to release his hold on him and rise back into the air.

If you’re being honest with yourself, you don’t feel too bad for what you’ve done, but watching Remise draining another human right in front of you was unsettling to say the least. Shane on the other hand, looks completely unfazed and turns towards you.

“That was an excellent use of strategy but we’re not done yet.”

As he says this, Pignite erupts into flames once more, causing the floor beneath it to melt as it stares at you with pure contempt. If you had to guess, it’s planning on personally returning the favor, but it doesn’t look like it will be content with simply knocking you unconscious. Your fears are confirmed when Pignite begins stomping towards you leaving a trail of molten tile in its wake.

As the raging Pignite approaches you, several ideas come to mind but the ones you like the most all revolve around self-preservation. The heat emanating from Pignite is more than enough of a reason to put as much space between you and it as possible. Despite the sharp pains in your back, you turn and run towards Rhyhorn—the nearest source of cover.

“It’s coming your way, Rhyhorn,” warns Shane as he watches the ordeal unfold. “Prepare to counter with Metal Burst.”

Just as you begin circling around Rhyhorn, the rugged Pokémon takes a firm step towards Pignite and begins to shine brightly as if it were coated steel as a large amount of pressure begins flooding the room. Hot on your heels, Pignite raises its arms and strikes as you crouch behind your improvised shield and hope for the best. Unfortunately for both you and Rhyhorn, Pignite is intent on getting to you and slams Rhyhorn with two fierce palm strikes, with the first one forcing the Spikes Pokémon to take a step back and the second one bowling it over and onto you.

There is no time for you to escape and both you and Rhyhorn are violently slammed into a nearby PC. The in addition to causing you an obscene amount of pain, the impact takes the wind out of you as well, forcing you drape yourself over the now fainted Rhyhorn for support. Pignite is still not satisfied however and pulls its arm back again, intent on swinging at whatever part of you it can reach. Its attack is interrupted however, when Remise suddenly appears behind Pignite and delivers a slash to its back, causing moderate damage at best. The seething boar turns and bats away Remise dismissively as the flames surrounding it burn hotter and hotter. It then locks eyes with you and raises its arm once more.

>>4249254
Once again, your mind races for an answer, but unlike the situation in the hallway, all of your options have been exhausted. Armo is on the other side of building fighting an Onix all by himself, Rhyhorn is out of commission, and thanks to the effects of Curse, Remise can only chip away at your fiery assailant. At the realization that you’re most likely going to die here, your breathing becomes ragged as you desperately try to push Rhyhorn off of you. As Pignite watches you struggle, it lets out something akin to a dark chuckle before preparing to unleash everything it has on you. The malicious pig’s laughter is soon eclipsed however, by the sounds of wailing police sirens as the authorities begin to surround and enter the building. Many shouts can be heard as an unknown individual begins barking orders.

“He’s not worth it Pignite!” Screams Dave over the sirens from the other side of the room. He then throws the car door open before getting into the driver’s seat. “We got what we came for, just grab Thomas and let’s get out of here!”

Pignite looks between its Trainer and you and let’s out a snarl before throwing a kick into Rhyhorns stomach, forcing the rocky Pokémon up against your ribs. It then presses down harder, eliminating what little space there was left between you and the PC, causing your back to protest in agony. Only the sound of Dave honking the horn manages to snap Pignite out of it and the boar relents, turning its back to you and heading towards the unconscious heap on the floor.

As Pignite slings its small Trainer over its shoulders, Shane quickly approaches you and recalls Rhyhorn to its ball. “Are you injured?” He asks with a small amount of concern.

For your part, all you can do is continue sucking in air as the flashy sports car backs out of the room and speeds away as fast as its three usable tires will allow it. Seconds later the police flood the room with some leaving immediately to chase after the fleeing grunts.

The first thing you do upon waking up is take a look at the alarm clock beside you. In doing so, you manage to roll over onto your bruised and broken back causing a stinging sensation to shoot up your body. You let out a sharp gasp and turn over onto your stomach as quickly as possible which does little to help.

“This is just perfect.” You grumble into your pillow as the sound of chirping birds echoes throughout the room.

“All things considered, Nucite City was probably the best place for this to happen due to the multiple Pokémon Centers located here.” Shane replies, leaning back on the only chair in the room.

“Wait, you’re still here?” You ask in surprise as you cram your neck towards your unexpected visitor.

“Someone had to watch you while the others searched for a Cheri Berry.”

“Why didn’t I just go to the hospital again?” You groan as the sensation begins to spread to your ribs.

“You’re broke.” States Shane, keeping the explanation brief.

“I wonder when I mentioned that.” You say with a yawn as you move your head back to a more comfortable position.

“If anything, this is your best option, you mentioned having some important business to take care of and if you stayed in a hospital, you wouldn’t have been let out for over a week.” Your temporary caretaker explains. “If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly are you doing here?”

>”I’m running an errand for my neighbor.”

“You traveled a long way just to run an errand.” Shane comments as he takes a look out the window. “What would be so important that you would come all this way?”

“I call it an errand but it’s more like holding up my end of a deal. I was told to look for someone here and get something from them.” You explain, keeping things as vague as possible.

It’s obvious that Shane thinks there’s more to your story but he doesn’t press any further. “In any case, I’m more interested in the new addition to your team. Where exactly did you manage to find a Honedge? Those are rare in Isoin and I’ve never heard of a sighting in our area.”

“I got him in a Wonder Trade. I guess the guy I ended up trading with was from either Kalos or Galar.”

“That’s fortunate for you. The nearest gyms shouldn’t be a problem for you with a Honedge on your side, assuming you use it correctly.”

“What do you mean?” You ask, somewhat confused by his statement.

“The Gym Leader here has a rather interesting team, but I think it would be best for you to see for yourself. I could show you.”

Before Shane can continue, the door to your room swings open and a familiar pair of brothers enter the room.

“We got it!” Announces Sean as he holds up a plastic bag. The contents inside give the bag a red coloring.

“You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t.” Shane replies as he takes the bag from his friend.

“At least try to show some appreciation, it took us all day to look for these!” Sean whines, clearly expecting more praise than he’s being given.

“Its not even afternoon yet, Sean.” Remarks Sheldon as he pushes past his younger brother. “So how’s our hero feeling today?”

“Injured.” You say with a deadpan tone.

“I figured as much, what I still don’t understand is why you two tried to take on those guys without any help.”

“What are you talking about bro? Anyone who works for Team Offset is a loser!” Says Sean as he makes his way to the remote.

“Nobody thought that until the Seloras Incident,” Sheldon reminds him. “As you can see,” he says gesturing towards you.r stationary form, “we shouldn’t underestimate them.”

“They just caught me at a bad time!” You protest. “If I ever see those guys again, they won’t know what hit them!”

“If anything, we caught them off guard.” Shane asserts as he hands you the bag.

You gratefully accept the bag and quickly scarf down the berries. After a few minutes the searing pain dulls and you can finally turn over without feeling an unbearable amount of pain.

“So...how do you feel?” Asks Sean as he begins flipping through the channels.

You slowly sit up and stretch your shoulders. “I feel like someone dropped two bags of rocks on my back. Believe it or not, it’s an improvement.”

“Well what do you want to do now? We should all hang out!” Says Sean throwing the remote onto the bed and making his way towards the door.

“What he needs to do is rest.” Sheldon cuts in, grabbing Sean by the back of his shirt. He should be fine now but taking it slow will keep him that way.” He then walks over to the bedside and puts a slip of paper on the nightstand. “We’re running a little late for our battle so we need to get going. We’ll be here for a few more days so you can call us if you need anything.”

“You were supposed to have that battle last night.” Reminds Shane as he makes his way to the door. “I think this qualifies as more than ‘a little late’.”

“Well then we’ll just have to beat them quicker! See you around Walter!” With that Sean leaves the room, his footsteps echoing down the hall.

“Thanks for your help guys and thanks for backing me up at the Center, Shane.”

Shane shrugs in response. “No thanks necessary, I’m not the one who got hurt.” His wording makes it hard to determine how to take that.

“Do you need anything else before we leave?” Sheldon inquires.

“Hey Shane, could you show me Vernon’s team before you go?”

Shane turns towards Sheldon and holds out his hand. “You’re still holding on to Sean’s Trainer Card, yes?”

“He would’ve lost it before leaving our neighborhood if I weren’t.” Chuckles Sheldon as he takes the card in question out of his pocket and hands it to Shane.

After taking the card, Shane walks over to your briefcase and takes out your card before placing it down and typing something onto Sean’s. He then places the backs of the cards together and waits for a few seconds until a small chime plays on both cards.

“I’ve sent you a recording of Sean’s battle with him.” Shane explains as he walks over to you and hands you your card. “Obviously, you might not go up against the same Pokémon, but this information should be of some use to you.”

“Thanks,” you say as you take the card. “I’m sure it will.”

Shane simply nods and leaves the room without another word, prompting Sheldon to give you a small wave before he leaves as well, closing the door behind him.

After a few minutes you slide yourself out of bed and tentatively take your first steps in the last few hours and make your way towards the TV. Doing so takes much more out of you than you had originally expected, but eventually you make it to your destination and insert your Trainer Card into the TV in order to watch the battle on a larger screen. Feeling too tired to walk all the way back, you instead sit at the foot of the bed and try to get as comfortable as possible as the video begins to load.

The video starts right at the beginning of the battle with Sean’s Paras going up against Vernon’s Ekans. The first thing you notice, aside from the Pokémon is the battlefield’s terrain— in a way, it almost resembles how you would imagine a Water-type Gym to look. The entire field is surrounded by murky looking water and is divided into four square sections by two connecting streams of sludge as well. Though this detail interests you, the Pokémon out right now are much less interesting.

>Watch the first part of the battle

Though you’re tempted to skip this part of the battle, you realize that doing so would be a waste of free information and that you should learn everything you can before it’s time to battle Vernon yourself.

The bout starts off with Ekans immediately using Glare in order to paralyze its opponent. Despite its condition, Paras manages to fire off a cloud of green powder at the crafty snake, putting it to sleep. Its attempt to go on the offensive however is less successful and Paras remains motionless when Sean attempts to have it follow up with Scratch. The second attempt is also a failure, but on the third, Paras manages to momentarily shake off the paralysis and leaps over the sludge canal before landing a solid blow against Ekans. Despite taking heavy damage, Ekans remains asleep and takes another swipe from Paras before finally awakening.

Wasting no time, Vernon commands Ekans to use Swagger. The snake obliged and mockingly shakes its tail at Paras, enraging it. Paras is unable to act on its anger however, as the paralysis rears its ugly head once more, trapping it in place. Taking advantage of the situation, Vernon then orders Ekans to attack with Poison Fang. The snake slithers over towards the Mushroom Pokémon menacingly before clamping down with its glowing purple fangs, dealing a hefty amount of damage to its foe. The problems don’t stop there for Paras however, as it falls prey to confusion and strikes itself by mistake with its claws while attempting a counterattack. With no other option, Sean decides to go for an all or nothing play and orders Paras to use Nature Power. In response, Paras conjures a large mass of mud which forms into the shape of a ball before being fired at Ekans. The ball of mud slams into Ekans and explodes, sending the snake flying across the field.

Even after taking a devastating Mud Bomb to the face, Ekans refuses to give in and after receiving the command from Vernon, slithers over to its opponent and springs over the sludge canal before striking again with Poison Fang, taking Paras out of the fight for good.

I agree, and I’m trying to find ways to keep things as streamlined as possible. Unfortunately tackling a series as expansive and detail oriented as Pokémon means that I may not be able to strike the right balance when it comes to pacing at some points in the story.

As for this segment, I should be able to summarize the rest of Sean’s battle in one update.

The rest of the battle plays out as a back and forth struggle between both sides. After the defeat of Paras, Sean sends out Magby, who’s superior speed and fiery attacks make quick work of Elans. For his next Pokémon, Vernon sends out Koffing and the battle continues. In the beginning, Koffing hits hard with strong Dark and Poison-type attacks. Magby manages to weather the storm however, and fires back with an onslaught of its own. Eventually, Koffing succumbs to a burn but before being defeated, Vernon has the Poison Gas Pokémon use Toxic Spikes in order to set the stage for his comeback.

With Koffing unable to battle, Vernon sends out Stunky, his final Pokémon. The aggressive Skunk Pokémon hits just as hard as Koffing and with its access to Screech, its physical attacks plow through Magby with ease. Unfortunately for Sean, his last Pokémon is the Psychic-type Espurr. Due to Stunky’s immunity to Psychic-type moves as well as its resistance to Fairy-type moves, Espurr has no moves that can make a dent in it. It’s lack of offensive options combined the the effects of Toxic Spikes seals the deal for Vernon and within seconds, Espurr is beaten down and tossed aside, As soon as the referee declares Vernon the winner, the video ends and begins to replay again due to the lack of any other videos to play.

>Complete Nathan’s errand

Before the battle can begin again, you turn off the TV and retrieve your Trainer Card. You then shuffle over to the desk and place the card back into your briefcase. Though your back is doing much better than it was before, walking around for any significant amount of time is out of the question for now. With no other choice, you decide to rest for a little while longer until moving around becomes less of a chore. As you lie in bed, you consider calling Nathan to tell him you’ve arrived but instead you decide to wait until the job is done before contacting him.

Hours later, you rise once more, prepared to finally uphold your end of the bargain. You take your briefcase from the desk and check to make sure that everything is in order before leaving the room and locking the door behind you. Moments later, you exit the Center and find yourself once again out on Nucite’s loud and busy streets. Fortunately for you, this Pokémon Center is located in the same general area as the museum, eliminating the need to use public transportation in order to get to your destination. Even so, the walk takes almost half an hour due to the crowds and and by the time you get to the museum’s steps your body is threatening to give out on you.

After paying the museum’s entrance fee, you begin looking around for any rooms resembling an office. As far as you know, you’ve never been to this place before and though there are signs and maps situated throughout the museum pointing out the locations of various exhibits, the food court, and the gift shop, there is seemingly nothing here that can direct you towards your objective.

You spend the next few minutes wandering around aimlessly in your search for any sign of administrative presence within the museum. After a while, you begin feeling somewhat silly after walking all around the museum like a lost puppy and at this point, it wouldn’t surprise you if you were told that the security guards are beginning to feel suspicious of you. Upon completing your third lap around the building you decide to lower your standards and seek help from any member of the museum’s staff you can find. This decision leads you to approach a lone janitor just as he begins leaving one of the many bathrooms located in the museum.

“Excuse me,” you say, walking alongside the janitor as he pushes his cart along the hall. “Could you tell me where the offices are?”

The janitor looks down at you but doesn’t slow down in the slightest. “What do you think I am, a tour guide? Go bother someone else kid, my break is in ten and I’ve got some inconsiderate asshole to clean up after before I can get to it.”

Before you can say anything else, the janitor quickens his pace in order to avoid speaking with you further and continues on his way, plowing through the crowds without a care in the world. Given your experience with unpleasant individuals, the janitor’s words do little to deter you and instead, you decide to simply watch him from afar. When you consider the way he spoke of his upcoming task, it becomes obvious to you that there is some familiarity between the janitor and whoever left a mess for him to clean up.

After a few minutes of stalking the janitor, your suspicions are confirmed when he suddenly disappears down a rather unassuming hallway lined with expensive looking oak doors. In the interest of avoiding any trouble, you turn back and stand around the corner to wait for the perfect opening. Once the oblivious janitor passes by you and you’re sure that not one is watching, you creep back into the hallway and resume your search. It doesn’t take you long until you find what you’re looking for—a door at the far end of the corridor with a copper plaque labeled “R. Harrison” situated in the middle of its frame.

You approach the door and after making sure that no one is around, you begin to knock. This continues for a few more minutes until you hear shuffling on the other end of the door. A bit more time passes until you hear and click and the door is swung open by a tall, exhausted looking young woman with long dark hair. Unlike what you’d expect from someone sitting in an office, she’s wearing very loose and casual clothing, giving you the impression that much like you, she is definitely not supposed to be back here.

“Well don’t just stand there like a tosser,” calls a deep, tired voice from within the room. ”Tell ‘em to piss off! My ‘ead is killing me!”

“It’s some kid,” replies the woman as she leans against the doorway. “I don’t think he works here.”

“Brilliant.” The sounds of shuffling begin again as your target approaches the door. The woman at the door doesn’t even need to move for you to confirm that he’s the one you’re looking for. “What is it?”

“I’m here to collect the money you owe.” You explain simply.

“Bollocks! I don’t owe anyone anythin’!”

“Are you sure about that Gabe?”

After a few seconds, your grumpy target’s expression shifts into one of mild annoyance. “Bloody ‘eck. You’re the one he told me about?”

“I guess so.” You shrug, “I haven’t talked to Nathan in days. Just give me the money and I’ll get going.”

“Come on in and close the door.” Says Gabe as he retreats back into the room. “Let ‘em in, Liz.”

Gabe heads back to his desk with you and Liz soon trailing after him. The office is a mess and littered with all kinds of papers, bottles, along with various wrappers. Aside from the desk and the accompanying chair, the only other furniture that you can identify is a beanbag chair and a black leather couch sitting in the far corner of the office.

“Real professional.” You comment as you stand by the desk.

“Are you here just for bants or do you want the cash?” Says Gabe as he leans back in his chair while rubbing his eyes.

“Fair enough, how much do you owe him?”

“Aren’t you the bloke who’s supposed to be keepin’ track of that? I don’t even remember where I was three nights ago.”

“Nathan wasn’t very....specific.” You say, feeling somewhat annoyed by how things are unfolding.

“Well just throwin’ money around isn’t my cup of tea, y’know. I can’t just part with my cash without knowin’ how much I’m spendin’. Just give ‘em a bell and we can sort this out, yeah?”

“What?” You ask, unsure of the meaning behind his request.

Gabe sighs and does a lazy spin in his chair. “Just call his bloody phone.”

You take your briefcase and place it on top of the desk before opening it and searching for the phone you “appropriated” from the hitman last week. After a bit of digging around, you finally locate the phone and begin dialing Nathan’s number.

“That thing looks like it’s at home ‘ere, mate.” Gabe chuckles as you finish putting in the number.

The phone rings for a few seconds, but to your relief, Nathan picks up by the fifth ring. “Hey Nathan, it’s me.”

“Good, that saves me the trouble of tracing this call. Did you trade phones with someone? When I called you earlier, some guy named Lance answered.”

You do your best to avoid talking about any of the madness that went on last week, and steer the conversation back to the task at hand. “It’s a long story, but you’re probably busy so I want to make this quick.”

“You guessed right kid. The job went down better than I expected and now I’ve got even more work to do. Speaking of quick, you sure left home in a hurry.”

“Look, I’m sorry about that but right now I just want to talk about our deal.”

“What about it? Did you find him?”

“I’m standing right next to him actually. I need to know how much he owes you.”

“Kid, you can’t honestly expect me to remember something like that, can you? Tons of people owe me money, it’s almost like my place is a bank or something. I can’t remember how much each and every schmuck owes me off the top of my head.”

After doing a bit of internal screaming, you begin to speak once more. “How soon can you get home?”

“I won’t be back in town for another week if things go well. Since you’re a busy kid with his own business to take care of, I’m gonna do you another favor. Just make up a number anywhere above 20k and you can call it a day. At this point, what he owes me is pocket change but it’s about the principle of the thing.”

“Alright, I’ll let him know. Thanks.” You reply, keeping your response vague in order to keep up the ruse.

“No problem, I’ll talk to you later. Try not to get yourself killed in the meantime.”

“I’ll do my best. Bye” With that, you hang up the phone and turn your attention back to Gabe.

“Well, what did he say?” Gabe inquires while looking at his own phone. It appears he got bored waiting for the conversation to end.

Upon hearing your announcement, Gabe leans back in his chair and puts one hand over his face. “Fuck me, mate! Bloody interest must’ve taken me to the cleaners!”

“How did you even spend all of that money? You’ve only been here for two week.” Questions Liz from the couch.

“Let’s just say that money and women don’t mix, yeah?” Sighs Gabe as he spins in his chair yet again. “Fuck, this is bad.”

“Well that’s sexist.”

“I didn’t hear you wafflin’ on about any of that rubbish last night, or ten minutes ago.” Gabe shoots back as he begins digging through the desk.

“So what you’re saying is, you don’t have.” You cut in, wanting to avoid sitting in on a petty argument.

“Oh, I have it, but I’m gonna need to do something really dodgy to get it. Alright, on your bikes, the both of you. I’ve got to clean this place up and get to work.”

“Dodgy?” You inquire, eyebrow raised.

“Well you ain’t one to talk given that you’re working for Nathan and all that. Just get back here tomorrow, same time, and I should have things sorted.”

Though you’re tempted to press the issue., you realize that like it or not, if Gabe doesn’t have the money at this moment there’s no point in sticking around. Without a word, you take your briefcase off the desk and leave the office. To avoid dealing with any security guards that might be lurking around, you decide to use one of the staff exits and after a bit of creeping around, you exit the museum and find yourself back outside.

>Go get something to before going shopping

‘Alright, first things first. I need to get something to eat.’ You think to yourself as you slowly move along with the foot traffic. ‘I haven’t had anything all day, not counting those berries and I barely had anything to eat before that.’

With nothing more on your mind than a hot meal, you continue to wander the streets until you come across a street lined with various restaurants, clubs and bars. While none of the eateries look very fancy or expensive, you know that things tend to cost much more in large cities such as this than they would in a smaller city or town. Thanks to the money you earned during your travels however, you have full confidence in your ability to afford a decent meal. Even so, the idea of simply finding a mall to go to also comes to mind. Though the food there might not be as great, you’ll save some money and still have enough time to do a good amount of shopping. If you were to stay put and eat on the strip however, you should be able to make it to at least one specialty store before you decide to call it a day.

You’re functional but still banged up so doing anything other than walking around and doing basic everyday things will cause problems for you. As for the potions and berries question, while I’m basing this off of nothing but my own headcannon, I’ve set things up so that things such as Potions, Revives, Full Heals, and Full Restores have little to no effect on humans. Berries however as shown in thread #1 and yesterday, have a greater effect on humans than they do on Pokémon.

‘I should probably save as much money as I can before getting paid.’ You muse to yourself as you turn your back on the strip. ‘Besides, I’ll be able to get everything I need in one place instead of running all around the city.’

With your mind made up, you once again begin asking the locals for directions. After a few attempts, one of the more approachable people you come across points you towards the right way to the mall. The walk takes much longer than the trip from the Pokémon Center to the museum, and by the time you arrive at the food court, your appearance resembles that of a ragged animal rather than that of a man. After paying for your food and finding an unoccupied table, it dawns on you just how rough things have been for the past few days. Gangsters aside, the first leg of your long journey has been marked by sleep deprivation, homelessness, and most importantly, hunger. As you tear through your meal, oblivious to the stares you are receiving, you start making a mental list of everything you’ll need for your next trip. Though you have no set destination now that you’re job is almost complete, you are determined to avoid traveling so lightly again.

As soon as you finish your meal, you leave the food court and begin walking around the mall in order to find all of the supplies you’ll need moving forward.

After getting all of the typical morning activities out of the way, you exit the Pokémon Center and walk around to the back. As a result of the heist from two nights ago, the Pokémon Center in southwest Nucite was closed down for repairs as well as for investigation. This of course means that the training grounds are incapable of accommodating all of the new arrivals that now occupy the field. You are more concerned with handling your own team however, and are content to train alone. With a little luck, you manage to find an empty lot in order to practice for your most important non-life-threatening battle yet. According to your watch, you should have enough time to train at least three of your team members before you have to deal with Gabe.

Once your long training session concludes, you take a break and lean on one of the old cars sitting behind you. Overall you’d say that the team made some progress, but you feel as if you were close to discovering another aspect of your team that you had not yet considered. Something about actually training your Pokémon rather than having them battle triggered a wave of inspiration inside of you. It occurs to you that if you focused your efforts on only a single member of your team, you may find what you’re looking for. Unfortunately you have little time for experimentation as you still need to get back to the museum.

The trip from the lot to the museum takes a bit longer than yesterday’s but eventually, you find yourself at the entrance once again. This time, you barely have enough money to cover the entrance fee, but aside from your perpetual money troubles there is nothing that can impede your journey to Gabe’s office. After a series of quick knocks, the door is opened by none other than the man of the hour who motions you inside with the jerk of his head.

“Ayup lad! ‘Ow’ve you been?” Welcomes Gabe, sounding oddly chipper.

“We saw each other yesterday.” You remark as you enter the office.

“Lighten the fuck up mate. Just keepin’ things cheery is all.”

Your eyes narrow ever so slightly as you process the meaning behind his words. “I’m guessing that means you have bad news for me.”

Gabe sits in his chair and casually leans back before propping his feet on the desk. “Dependin’ on ‘ow you want to do things, there could be bad news for both of us. This is a proper cock-up, and now I ‘ave no choice but to do this cack-handed.”

“Go on,” You prod.

“Take a seat mate, this is gonna be a long one. Now do you want to do this the quick and dirty way, or the long way?”

>”Explain my options.”

“All right then. Option one is, I give you the money and you walk away.”

“It can’t be that simple.” You say, brushing some crumbs off of the beanbag chair before sitting down.

“Of course not mate! This is 35k we’re talking about!” Gabe exclaims from his seat. “That cash needs to come from somewhere and if it goes missin’ all at once with no explanation, someone’s gonna start sniffin’ around. This’ll be a doddle for me and you, but there’s a good chance that Nathan’s gonna get caught and if he squeals all of us will end up in the Nick.”

“Alright, what’s option two?” You asked with your arms crossed.

After taking one of his regular spins, Gabe begins again. “Sod’s law might nail us on this one but to keep it quick, I take the money and a little extra for ‘expenses’. You’re still with me, yeah?”

“Where is this going?”

“I take the money, go off galavantin’, and if the money somehow gets lost or nicked along the way then it’s out of our hands.”

“So what you’re saying is that you want to follow me around until you can ditch the money?” You ask, dreading the very thought.

“Want is a strong word mate, but unlike the first option, I can pull a blinder with this one. Besides, some of that dosh could end up in your pocket since you’re doing the Trainer thing and all that. I’ve sorted for both so it’s up to you.”

Judging from his tone, Gabe doesn’t really seem to care either way but it’s obvious to you that his debt isn’t the only issue he wants to deal with. As for you, the idea of getting tangled up with this manipulative slacker isn’t one that you’d like to entertain. On the other hand, drawing any unnecessary attention to Nathan is certainly not something you want to do either.

Upon hearing your answer, Gabe stands up and extends his hand. “Look, I won’t screw you over, I swear. We’re both in deep shit if this doesn’t pan out, so let’s keep things ace and we’ll all walk away happy, yeah?”

“So what comes next?” You ask as you accept the handshake. “I’m kind of in a hurry.”

“Gimme a second.” Gabe sloppily writes his number down on a scrap of paper and hands it to you. “I’ll need to lay low for a couple of days to make sure my story doesn’t sound like absolute rubbish. I’ll be staying at Shayla’s gaff in the meantime and when you’re ready to clear off, just give me a bell and we’ll be off.”

“Who?”

“When you’re a fit bloke like me you’ve got plenty of birds who’ll let you stay at their place for days on end for no reason at all.” Gabe explains as he takes his feet off the desk. “Do you want to come over or should I meet up with you.”

“Just meet me at the Pokémon Center near the museum, you can’t miss it.” You say as you stand up and prepare to leave.

Gabe nods in response and begins digging through his desk. “Alright mate, see ya.”

The trip back to the Pokémon Center is an uneventful one, giving you plenty of time to mull over what you’ve just gotten yourself into. To say that you aren’t thrilled to be traveling with Gabe is an understatement but at the very least he’ll be paying your way throughout most of your journey assuming he’s being honest with you. Once you get back to the Center, you try your best to focus on your more immediate concerns, primarily, dealing with Vernon. Since you got here, not a day has gone by without you hearing his name and nothing you’ve heard gives you any sense of hope. If you’re going to take him on and win your first Gym Badge, you’ll need to pull out all the stops.

>>
>>4256734

>>
>>4256742
That shit works however the plot demands. In game a 320 base power move one shots everything even with resistance but you never get that close to landing that. If rollout worked with defense curl it will work without it.
>>
>>4256753
Alright, I guess we can get rid of it.
>>
>>4256752
Yes, and there are a few more perks as well.
>>4256753
In the cases where it didn’t take out an opponent in one hit, levels and resistances played a factor. At the end of the day, my suggestion is not to worry about it. The Rollout/Defense Curl combo is just the beginning.
>>
>>4256753
Actually I lowballed it, fifth chained Rollout has 480 BP and Defense Curl Rollout has 760 BP! That shit is stronger than most Z-moves with STAB.
>>
>>4256775
OK, in that case...
Defense Curl and Counter do not really mesh well together. We should decide whether we want to play set up (using Dig + Defense Curl and relying on Rollout for big damage) or going for immediate damage and strong counter hit.
Personally I like Rollout shenanigans so I vote we forget Counter and grab Dig.
>>
>>4256739
>>4256761
We have two votes for replacing both Rapid Spin and Defense Curl with Dig and Fury Cutter.

>>4256785
And one vote for replacing Counter with Dig.

I’ll give another another 15 minutes for the others to state their opinions before I decide to go with the majority of two.

After all of the effort you put in today, you still haven’t figured out what it is you’re looking for. You’ve never been a fan of mental blocks and whenever you’ve encountered one in the past, you simply wouldn’t relent until things became clear.

‘I’m so close,’ You think as you lean back on the dusty old car once again. ‘What am I missing here?’ While reflecting on the situation, you simultaneously attempt to convince yourself that you’re wasting time, but to no avail.

“Hey man, how’s it going?” Calls an uneasy voice from behind you.

Upon hearing the voice, you turn to see a tall male with a dark complexion wearing skates. Disregarding his height, you would assume he’s around your age given his build and voice, but his choice in headgear makes him look much younger. On top of his head, he wears a dark blue helmet with a cyan plume, something you’ve seen smaller kids wear when riding bikes or skating in your neighborhood.

“I’m fine, I was just doing some training for my Gym Battle.” You respond as Armo approaches the teen to poke at his skates.

“Your first right?” Asks the skater, eyeing Armo warily.

“What makes you say that?”

The skater shrugs as he watches a few cars go by. “You kind of remind me of myself when I was training to battle Vernon, I was a mess.”

“A mess, huh?” You reply as you remove yourself from your perch.

“Maybe not on the outside,” clarifies the skater. “But I know deep thinking when I see it.”

There is an awkward pause in the conversation as it looks like the skater wants to say more.

The sleek looking lizard crouches low in response and stretches its legs in anticipation.

“Since you wanted to cut to the chase, I’ll show you what I’ve learned right now! Salandit, kick things off with Searing Shower!”

Flames leak out of the bottom of Slandit’s mouth before a several of embers are launched in Armo’s direction. Though you can’t tell for sure, the embers somewhat resemble flaming starts as they fly through the air. Armo is struck by the burning stars and within seconds, burns begin to appear all over his body.

“Fight back with Dig!” You order the armored rodent.

Doing his best to ignore the burning sensation that has enveloped his entire body, Armo leaps headfirst into the dirt before disappearing as if had dove into a body of water. Once Armo’s movements are completely undetectable, the skater intertwines his fingers and cracks his knuckles as he stares at the ground.

A tense silence overtakes the small lot as Armo continues to burrow. Every so often, Salandit twitches and shifts its stance in anticipation of Armo’s attack. Suddenly, an slightly burnt Armo bursts through the ground without warning and a cloud of dirt trialing him as he rockets into Salandit’s underside. The blow send Salandit flying until it crashes several feet behind its Trainer. Despite taking such a massive hit, the black reptile manages to stand up once more with some effort.

“I guess I’m barely scrapping by again.” The skater muses to himself as he takes a close look at both Armo and his own Pokémon. “Alright then, let’s go all in! Salandit, use Substitute!”

As soon as the order is given, a thin cloud of smoke covers Salandit. Once the smoke clears, a crude duplicate of the Toxic Lizard Pokémon stands in front of the original.

As you contemplate your next move, Armo’s burn makes another appearance and chips away at his reserves once more.

Now looking more confident than ever, the skater makes a dramatic sweeping motion with his hand. “Its time to take it to the next level! Hit him with Swift while the substitute is still up!”

“Break through with Rollout, Armo!” You respond as a large wave of stars begin zipping across the field.

Armo curls up and makes a beeline for the fake Salandit, undeterred by the projectiles colliding with his armored skin. The golden ball of destruction reaches his foe and rams the substitute, knocking it over but not completely destroying it. From the side, the real Salandit remains unharmed and gives a cheeky grin at Armo’s retreating form.

“We aren’t done yet,” The skater warns as Armo performs a flawless drift. “He’s coming back for another pass, so get ready to nail him again.”

>Use Dig while rolling

Rolled: Irrelevant
Result(s): Buzz Drill Unlocked

You’ve been in this situation many times before, with your foe waiting to advantage of Rollout’s crucial drawback. After taking two attacks from Salandit along with the steady damage accumulated from his burn, it has become clear Armo can’t afford to be hit by another volley of stars. With Armo still rolling however, there seems to be no way to keep him from running right into another attack.

As you predicted, the skater orders another round of Swift just as Armo closes in once more. Though you have some doubts about your next move, you realize that you have nothing to lose. “You have to hit Salandit its next attack Armo! Use Dig while rolling to get under Swift!”

To the surprise of both Salandit and its Trainer, Armo quickly sinks into the dirt while rolling, giving the impression that he’s shearing the very ground below him. As he does so, the glowing stars launched by the poisonous reptile sail harmlessly over his head, saving him momentarily. The cheap imitation of Salandit on the other hand, is not so lucky and dissipates as soon as it makes contact with Armo’s blurry form.

“Well played grasshopper, you’re a pretty fast learner. I definitely didn’t see that one coming.” The skater sounds genuinely impressed by what he’s witnessed. “I’m not sure either of our Pokémon can keep this up though, and your Sandshrew looks exhausted. You wanna call it here?”

Upon taking a closer look at Armo, you can see that he indeed does look out of it. Performing that maneuver must have taken a lot out of him. In fact, this is probably the most tired you’ve ever seen him before.

“Alright, I’ve seen enough.” You say as you take out Armo’s ball and recall him before placing the ball back on your new belt. “I guess he’ll need a bit more practice before we can start relying on that one.”

“Even Salandit still has problems with actually attacking after doing something like that, but after a bit more training your Sandshrew should be able to pull it off without tiring himself out.” The helmet clad teen takes out his own Pokéball and recalls the black lizard. “You should be careful when using that in your battle with Vernon though, if any of your Pokémon end up in those toxic pools, they’ll get poisoned for sure.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” You reply, absentmindedly shifting your feet in the dirt. “Does he use whatever these move combinations are called too?”

“I don’t think he does,” Says the skater after giving your question some thought. “I’ve only battled him once, but he’s seen me battle a few more times after that. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s tried it but I’ve never seen anyone else pull it off.”

“Thanks.” You say with a wave as you leave the lot and start your trip back “home”.

Upon entering the Pokémon Center, the first thing you do is get Armo some medical attention. Having nothing better to do in the meantime, you go to the crowded cafeteria to get some dinner before going back to your room to think. As you reflect on your journey so far it’s clear that you’re in a somewhat complex situation. On one hand, Nathan’s errand is both taken care of and at the same time, unfinished. On the other, your record as a Trainer is all over the place, and having to face multiple opponents that were well out of your league hasn’t done your confidence any favors. You know that you can’t stay in the Pokémon Center forever and that you’ll need to continue your journey eventually, but at the same time, you aren’t sure if taking on Vernon at this point is the best decision.

A little over an hour later, Armo’s ball is returned to your room and you place it back on the belt which you placed on the desk. As you stare at the entirety of your team, you begin to feel some of your resolve returning. Even if you aren’t ready to rise to the challenge, you certainly wouldn’t know unless you tried and you didn’t come this far just to turn back because things haven’t gone as planned. This isn’t the time to second guess yourself. Now is the time to make a decision.

I got swept up in a range ban and I haven't been home long enough to post yet alone write a proper update from my laptop. The QM curse has struck for the second thread in a row. Thankfully, I'm free for tonight and all of tomorrow so I hope we can at least get to the beginning of the Gym Battle before it's time to start a new thread. I don't know what happened to some of the posts but we still have the rolls so we'll work with those. I should have an update out within an hour.

It's good to be back from the dead a second time. I still have some things to iron out IRL before I'm no longer forced to post from my phone 80% of the time, so for now I'll just use every bit of free time I have now to get things done until this blows over.

Summary:
I gave everyone the option between training with either one Pokémon or three. The majority chose to train three at a time and I had them roll 3d100.

This is the scale.

[31-84] Gains a level

[85-100] Gains a level and 60 TP

2nd
[1-30] Gains some EXP

[31-84] Gains a level

[85-100] Gains a level and 30 TP

3rd
[1-30] Gains some EXP

[31-84] Gains a level

[85-100] Gains a level and 15 TP

After averaging the numbers, these are the results.

You look upon your team with a satisfied smile as you wrap up the start of your daylong training session. Despite his first few lackluster performances, you still have no doubt in your mind that Remise will be a big help in your upcoming battle. On the other hand, it is likely that Asher and Monsoon will be sitting this one out, but you understand that neglecting them now for short-term gain would be unwise. All three of them have worked hard and you’re sure that it will all pay off eventually. Now that you’ve been training alone for a few hours however, it’s time to truly test both yourself and your team against other Trainers. As a result of being in such an overwhelmingly large city, there are many places here where Trainers are sure to congregate.

>Look for Trainers to battle at the Battle Circuit

Never one to shy away from a challenge, you decide to make your way to the city’s Battle Circuit. Over the last decade, these facilities have been growing in popularity, and you’ve even heard that they’re beginning to rival Isoin’s Pokémon League. Though you’ve never seen what actually goes on in there, you’ve seen a few of the tournaments that they’ve hosted on TV and the competitors seemed to be accomplished Trainers in their own right. Of course, you aren’t here to enter any big events, in fact given your unfamiliarity with these facilities; you don’t even know when the next big tournament will be. What you do know however, is that the competition you’ll find here will be much more fierce than what you would find anywhere else in this city barring the Gym. This is one opportunity that your curiosity simply won’t allow you to pass up.

After a rather long and exhausting walk, you find yourself in front of Nucite City’s Battle Circuit. The building is incredibly large, flashy, and the sounds of cheers and battle are practically leaking from the walls. Without any hesitation, you walk through the entrance and practically stagger back as the full force of the cacophony invades your ears without mercy. The entire foyer is packed with both Trainers and spectators alike, clamoring for a challenge as well as entertainment. Pushing through the unruly crowd is an almost impossible task but somehow, you manage to clear a path to one of the less crowded rooms. Upon stepping through the double doors, you are greeted with the site of several large battlefields arranged side by side. Though the room isn’t covered in as many bells and whistles as the competitive rooms and despite the more relaxed feeling this room exudes, there are still several people sitting in the stands idly switching their gazes from one battle to another. After making your way down to the action, you find a few Trainers sitting on benches, likely waiting for an open slot or for one of their friends/rivals to show up. From the looks of things, the battlefields might be occupied for a while.

>Take a seat and wait for one of the fields to open up

You take an empty spot on the bench and immediately check your watch as the battles continue. A few of the Trainers make idle chat with each other while waiting for their turn while others, you included, wait in silence. Within the next hour, a few slots begin to gradually open and you soon find yourself near the front of the line. After determining your positioning line, you determine that your opponent will be the blue haired male sitting to your right. He’s about your age and has a dignified look to him. His facial expression, clothing, and posture practically scream upper class. It seems as if he doesn’t care who his opponent is and is simply content to watch the ongoing battles while occasionally giving quick glances towards the doors. If you had to guess, you would assume that his intended opponent is running late.

“Hey,” you begin, attracting your affluent opponent’s attention. “Are you waiting for someone?”

The blue haired Trainer shifts on the bench and turns to you. “As a matter of fact, I am. A colleague of mine and I agreed to a duel but it appears that he is running late. The company he keeps is always distracting him and getting him into all sorts of mischief. As much as it pains me to say it, at this point I am also to blame for not accounting for their interference.” The boy stops speaking for a moment and begins again with a mild hint of embarrassment in his voice. “I apologize, that was a rather undignified display. I have never been very tolerant of those who do not value punctuality.”

“Well it looks like we’ll be battling each other judging by how the line is moving.” You reply in a half-hearted attempt to ease the situation.

“In that case, I will gladly accept you as my opponent. I suppose I should introduce myself; my name is Barrett Tourmaline, Novice Pokémon Trainer and heir to the Tourmaline family fortune.” He then extends his hand.

“I’m Walter….Graff.” You say unsure of how to respond to such a formal greeting. Once you accept his handshake, the young aristocrat’s demeanor becomes a bit more relaxed.

After a bit of small talk, another field becomes available, allowing both you and Barrett to finally begin.

“You may arrange the conditions.” Barrett graciously offers as he takes his spot on the opposite side of the field.

Rolled: 89
Result(s): Success

After giving it some though, you decide to go with the most conventional and efficient style you know of and offer to battle Barrett to three, which he accepts. The first pair of Pokémon that are sent onto the field are Barrett’s Quilava and your jumpy duckling, Monsoon. Despite having the type advantage during the first round, Quilava’s superior strength and speed kept Monsoon on his webbed feet at all times. The battle was a close one, but in the end, Monsoon’s ability to fly allowed him to control the pace of the fight and eventually wear down his fiery opponent. The next Pokémon sent in by Barrett was Croagunk, who put up just as much of a fight as his predecessor. Though Monsoon’s superior mobility gave him an edge at first, the poisonous frog had a trick up its sleeve and used Attract to put a stop to Monsoon’s frequent dive bombings. Once Monsoon was under her thumb, Croagunk manage to gain enough momentum to finish off the infatuated duckling with an unrelenting flurry of Drain Punches and Poison Jabs.

Once Monsoon is returned, you send out Asher in Monsoon’s place. Thanks to the health recovered from Drain Punch, Croagunk was still in top form and now facing off against a far weaker opponent. Both you and Asher did your best and utilized a mixture of dodges, Double Team, and Confusion in order to combat against Croagunk’s higher level of training and experience. Things became much more complicated however once Asher fell prey to a well timed Poison Jab and ended up getting poisoned for good measure, turning the round into a race against time. By some miracle, Asher’s heightened evasion managed to keep Croagunk at bay long enough to finish her off with another super effective Confusion attack.

>>4272457
With one last Pokémon left, Barrett congratulated you on your efforts and sent out a Snorunt, who proved to be just as slippery as Asher. Due to his weakened state, it didn’t take long for the poison to become too much for the psychic fairy and one icy attack from Snow Hat Pokémon is all it takes for the round to be brought to a close. Finally, you send out Sephira in order to win the day. Just like the last time you tried battling with her, the flaming cub seemed content to battle on her own terms. However, a simple scratch on the back was all it took to get her to follow your lead. In a way, the final round played out like a strange combination of the last two rounds. Sephira’s strength in battle simply couldn’t be matched and with her flame breath, it looked as if Snorunt should’ve been finished from the start. Thanks to the use of Double Team and Disable however, Sephira was forced to rely only on physical attacks in order to fight through a horde of illusory Snorunts while dodging a barrage of flying ice chunks. Eventually, after a long and drawn out back and forth, Sephira’s fire returned, allowing her to make quick work of both the clones and Snorunt with a dazzling wave of embers.

“That was a rather informative bout.” Comments Barrett as he returns Snorunt to his Luxury Ball. “Dare I say, this proved to be a much more novel experience than a battle with Garnet would have been. You have my thanks.”

After giving you another handshake, Barrett hands you 4,000 P and bids you farewell.

>Call it a day and go back to the Pokémon Center

With another battle won and some extra cash in your pocket, you declare this day to be a rousing success and decide to go back to the Pokémon Center for a well-deserved rest. You exit the large room through the double doors and enter into an even larger room with more occupants than it should feasibly contain. After another round of wading through the crowd, you find yourself back outside once again, away from the roaring masses. With a sigh, you mentally prepare yourself for another long walk and head in the general direction of the Pokémon Center. You hardly make it halfway to your destination however, when you come across a mass of fleeing civilians. Thankfully, a nearby alleyway provides to perfect hiding spot and keeps you from being trampled by the panicked horde.

“I really hate crowds.” You mutter to yourself as you poke your head out from your hiding space. “Still, I wonder what caused that stampede.”

You have a few theories on what could possibly be happening just a few blocks away, but if you’re being honest with yourself, you really aren’t in the mood to deal with any more rampaging Pokémon, shady organizations, or criminals, especially right now. As far as you’re concerned, you’ve done your part several times over at this point and you don’t want to get involved in whatever it is that started this.

As you continue walking, several police cars and motorcycles fly past with their sirens blaring. “I guess this is just as serious as I thought.” You absentmindedly muse to yourself as the Pokémon Center’s bright red roof comes into view.

You once again wake up early as the sun begins to rise once more. After making it back to your room yesterday, you reviewed the footage from Sean’s battle with Vernon a second time and began devising strategies for every Pokémon you assumed the Gym Leader could possibly throw at you. Now, after a long week of traveling, training, battling, and planning—today is the day. Both you and your team are well rested and you’ve made sure that everyone is prepared for battle in the case that you may need to approach things from a less conventional angle. Brimming with confidence, you set out towards the Gym with the though of winning your first badge playing in your head over and over again.

When you finally get to Gym located on the east side of the city, the first thing you notice is the distinct lack of people walking around. Granted, you woke up fairly early and there were very few people on the streets this morning to begin with, but you pictured a long line wrapping around the place whenever you thought of coming to the famed Gym. Instead, all you see at the entrance are two familiar figures standing around and talking along with a third individual who you immediately recognize as Vernon. You have mixed feelings on meeting with this group, and you can assume by looking at the Gym Leader’s expression that he is not in the best of moods this morning.

Though you have no idea what they’re talking about, you figure that at least two of them won’t take offense to your sudden appearance and continue forward towards the imposing brick building and its equally stiff Gym Leader.

Your helmet clad “mentor” is the first to notice your arrival. “Hey grasshopper! I didn’t think I’d see you so soon!”

Thanks to the skater’s sudden outburst, both Jordan and Vernon turn towards you. “Oh no.” Jordan remarks simply as soon as she sees the determined look on your face.

“Wait, you know this guy?” asks the skater with unmistakable curiosity.

“Yeah, I battled him a few weeks ago in Marlan Town. I told you about this when I got back home.”

“Well you never really described him. How was I supposed to know?” Counters the skater defensively. His expression then snaps back to one of excitement as he shifts his gaze between you and her. “You guys know what this means right? We’re involved in one big rival triangle!”

“We’re not rivals.” You and Jordan reply in unison.

“That better not have been aimed at me.” The skater says to Jordan as Vernon shakes his head in disapproval.

“I only battled him once, Lyle.” Jordan reminds him while rolling her eyes.

“And I haven’t battled either of you more than once.” You add.

“You guys are no fun,” Lyle complains as you get closer to the three of them. “Also Lyle, seriously? I use your nickname all the time. Why don’t you ever use mine?”

“First of all, my ‘nickname’ is just my last name, it doesn’t count. Second, the only people you’ve told your nickname to is us. It’s not a nickname if only two people know about it.”

“I also told him.” Lyle says, pointing at you.

“We never even exchanged names.” You reply, refuting his claim.

Lyle leans back on the wall and puts a hand to his chin, deep in thought. “Huh.” He says simply.

“As entertaining as this has been,” Vernon cuts in without a hint of amusement. “I think your acquaintance came here for more than just banter.”

“Right.” Says Jordan, her tone shifting to a much less casual one. “Vernon, this is Walter. He’s just starting out and I guess you already know he’s here to challenge you.”

“Are you?” asks Vernon simply, leveling his gaze on you pointedly.

You bristle ever so slightly at his tone and serious demeanor but you stay strong stand your ground. “Yes, I didn’t come this far just to go home empty handed.”

“The Gym is closed on the weekends, but I need something to take my mind off the yesterday’s incident.” The intense Gym Leader then turns and begins walking towards the doors. “Jordan, you’ll oversee the match and as for you Walter—don’t expect mercy.”

Unfortunately, my time is up and thanks to the ongoing range ban, I won’t be able to continue tomorrow.
