This is probably a little ambitious, but let’s see…

#FFF8E7, the Hex Triplet value for the colour of the Universe. Here, in the ever-present off-beige light of middling average-ness, is a hand.

Never mind who's it is, that isn't important right now.

All you need to believe, or dream, is that there is a hand, wider than forever and taller than is frankly reasonable. There are entire continents of barren rock that cover only a fraction of a finger, and even the largest ocean stretches over but a portion of the palm.

'Up', we suppose, is where the Fingers point. As good as any a direction to be! The rocks here are porous, the water light and frothy, the shining air glimmering and bright. As one strides 'down' to the Palm, the world gradually grows more solid, more recognizable to a certain species called Humans. Until, that is, one reaches the Wrist. This is the 'Down' of the world, where even a pebble is a burden, the water runs dark and heavy, and night lasts far longer than day.

Of course, what of those floating orbs, and the rivulets of colour they pour down?

These are Mana, familiar to a good many of you, I assume. Each is a memory, an instinct, of what a world could be. The orbs over each Finger are there, far above even the highest mountains. Their light, and essence, suffuses each Finger, dripping down through water and rock to the depths of the Wrist, only to vanish, along with everything else, where the Hand ends.

Mana is not a physical thing, but it can soak into the essence of something, and even be formed into physical matter, with willpower. That’s where life comes in, but more on that later. Mana wishes to impose its own values onto everything, and bending it otherwise is impossible.

Red Mana is hot, tempestuous, hasty and passionate. It gouges the land into canyons and mountains, and already the rocks along the Red Finger are beginning to rise and peak.

Green Mana is stable, fruitful, large and sedate. The barren lands of the Green Finger need only a light touch before they will explode into verdancy.

White Mana is protective, organized, uniform and exclusive. The White Finger has miles and miles of horizon undisturbed by even slight hills.

Blue Mana is insightful, deceptive, intelligent and isolated. The Blue Finger’s oceans and rivers are mightier than any other, with great promise for the future.

Black Mana is deconstructive, decadent, insular and hungry. While the other lands roil under the fresh forces of creation, the Black Finger has already settled, it’s long journey of decay begun.

While each Finger vibrates with Mana, by the time it has reached the Palm it has already begun to settle, turning into the metaphorical equivalent of molasses once it reaches the Wrist. As a result, wilful acts of temporary creation tend to be easier the higher you go, while stable infusions tend to last longer the deeper you stay. Of course, wandering below the Wrist is death, and flying above the Hand’s atmosphere into the Beige Beyond will show that it hosts no Mana and only a thin, stale atmosphere. Diving into the spheres of Mana would make dropping into a star look like a warm bath.

Now, onto the rules of Life, and then I will, hehe, HAND them over to you all for evolving!

There are 4 forms of life so far, one microscopic and three macroscopic. The tiny Pentanoids are not available for evolution, but they form the base of the food chain, and are the only creature able to feed on raw Mana itself. They tend to congregate, whether in air, on land, or under water, for short times to multiply, and the then-visible clumps of tiny beings attract other animals.

These three larger beasties all interact with the world, the Pentanoids, and Mana in unique ways. However, there are rules they must follow!
Each creature can evolve to have two SUFFUSIONS or ABILITIES, or one of each. Any greater ambition leads to a meltdown on the molecular level, the basic DNA of these primitive beings unable to work with more than two of these primal forces.
>A SUFFUSION absorbs Mana from the environment and slowly works it into physical form.
>An ABILITY stores Mana absorbed from the environment and then unleashes it in a wilful creation.

To have either, a creature must have a feasible way to spend long periods of its life in that Mana’s area. Suffusions won’t grow or develop, and abilities won’t recharge, if the creature doesn’t spend time in an area of the corresponding mana (or get it from another source…) Creatures in the Fingers will be hard pressed to reach another Mana, those in the Palm could feasibly reach an adjacent Mana, and those who call the Wrist home will easily roam over each. However, one must remember that the deeper one ventures, the harsher an environment it becomes!

Creatures must feast on Pentanoids and/or each other. Mana is too fickle/non-physical a resource to metabolize, and even converting it into matter isn’t very efficient. Luckily, Pentanoids are plentiful, but their poor nutrition means that other sources of food must be found if one wants to evolve any decent complexity!

The first shall be the soaring Regli, which calls the Red Finger it’s home. It glides to and fro from peak to peak, using their primitive eyesight to chase the hazy patches of Pentanoids when they form in the air. Tiny hooks on each corner of their glider help them hang from steep cliff faces. It has just begun to prey on Veruge.

The Regli has ONE Suffusion, and ZERO Abilities. A poor choice for the energetic mana of the Fingers!

SUFFUSION: Red Mana - Gliders: Stretched skin over fragile bones suffused with red Mana to improve the speed of their flight.

The large Veruge, which crawls through the Green Palm. It has surpassed the limit of size one can when one only eats Pentanoids. The slow moving beast is vulnerable to Regli, who form great migrations once a ‘year’ to glide over and prey on them. However, when the red-winged beasts land, they are in for a shock!

The Veruge has ONE Suffusion and ONE Ability.

SUFFUSION: Green Mana - Expansive Flesh: The Veruge has increased its size and weight across its body, surpassing the limits of it’s diet.

ABILITY: Green Mana - Hairy Burst: When a predator lands on the Veruges back, it can trigger an explosive growth of green fibers to repel the enemy. These fall off after a few hours.

Finally, the Wrist bound Ornik. A scuttling creature with a bony ‘face’, this blind beast vacuums Pentanoids off the floor it crawls over. It’s mask is dense and angular, wielded as a deadly ram when it comes to mating season. The Ornik have no qualms eating their fallen brethren, or anything else they can find.

The Ornik has TWO Suffusions

SUFFUSION: White Mana - Bone Mask: The bony mask is nigh-impenetrable to the meager forces the beasts of this world present.

SUFFUSION: Black Mana - Rapacious Sack: This creature can digest rotten meat and stale blood with little to no issues.

The Veruge grows more sedate, but don't be fooled. Despite its docile exterior, the hairy growths on its back have grown spiny, making the activation of its ability an unpleasant surprise for any predator. The spines would dig into skin and draw blood, feeding the docile Veruge.

However, it doesn't actively go out looking for trouble, hence the size of its body doesn't change much.

Empowered by the fiery nature of Red Mana, the hooks on the Regli's hands grow into proper claws. While sharp, the claws are as fragile as the Regli's bones.

Slightly more ferocious than their ancestors, they hunt Veruge twice a year instead of just the once.

Due the their settlement on the vibrant Red Finger, the Fritfli has gained ONE NEW ABILTY:
Horrid Screech (Red Mana)
When any the Fritfli's prey hears its horrid screeches, they will be overwhelmed with fear, preventing them from fighting back. However, emotional state only lasts for a few minutes, so the Fritfli must act quickly.

Additionally, it has grown a beak to rip and tear at flesh as it eats.

Sometimes, after a Veruge drudges through a puddle or other small water basin, the pentanoids living in it will get stuck to the Veruge's spines. The Veruge uses these pentanoids as an emergency food supply, bending it's elongated neck in order to feast on it's own back.
While their neck is comparatively longer, their total size remains the same.

Some of the Regli that migrated twice a year start not migrating home, making new nests for themselves on the green finger. The camouflage of their skin-flaps develops into a form to better camouflage against the finger-face.

Some Gregli who instead settled on the Green Palm grew much less predatory due to exposure of soothing Green Mana. These flying friends are called Gamgli, and they have ONE NEW SUFFUSION:

The Gamgli mouth has grown tremendously large in presence of Green Mana, allowing it to more easily swallow swarms of Pentatoids.

The thornika's throat sac evolves. Instead of just containing harvested pentanoids, it also contains other stored food, such as blood and viscera from other Thornikas that it has cannibalized.

Some Ex-Thornikas migrate closer to the White Palm, where they redevelop their sack - but now, instead of processing rotten meat, it processes soil; the Ex-Thornika concentrates white mana in the sack, and the essence of order causes the chemicals within to coalesce into less entropic forms: simple sugars and amino-acids. While this does restrict them to areas closest to the manastreams, it also means that they can subsist indefinitely on literally just dirt.
Ability gained: manasynthesis
The Ex-Thornika can use ingested white mana to convert high-entropy chemicals into low-entropy ones, generating energy.

High above the Red Finger, closer to the fiery source of red mana and free from predation by larger organisms, great swarms of Pentanoids cover the sky. The great bulk of these microorganisms makes for an easily acessible alternate foodsource for the flying inhabitants of the Red Finger, who soon begin to adapt to this new opportunity.
Some Fritflis begin to fly ever higher in order to harvest the defenseless hordes of Pentanoids above, growing much larger on the inexhaustable, defenseless bounty of the sky. Additionally, the imperative to stay in the air for longer amounts of time cause this new branch of fliers to select for wider wings.

>It has been a fruitful day for this Gamgli. A belly full of Pentanoids may weigh it down, but this one's tiny little mind, for some reason, 'enjoys' the view of the Green Finger it calls home, so it glides its way up to the frost-tipped peaks. It may not remember, but its once-homeland had mountains that dwarf these, but they will do. A pack of Veruge make their way river-ward as other gamglis glide along the backdrop of the other Fingers and mana orbs. It lands on the rock-strewn cliff edge, and basks in the green light of home.

Anons I just wanna poke in and say I came in from yardwork today and my little critters are looking RIGHT BEAUTIFUL. Thanks to each and every one of ya lot for stopping in.

I'm collecting the pictures and will post evolutionary trees at the start of the next thread, whenever that is. On that note, I'll also be kicking off SOME sort of event at the start of each thread, as is tradition for alot of Evos.

As the great clouds of Pentanoids above the tip of the Red Finger begin to thin from predation, the Manti begins to compete for prey. As the necessity for staying in the air ever longer grows, the Gliders SUFFUSION is replaced by a new trait better suited for their new niche, the Updraft SUFFUSION. Additionally, it has undergone a regression in its evolution, retracting its predatory beak and instead developing a cavernous hole on the front of its face. The inside of the hole is lined with the hard exterior of its former beak, allowing it to resist the sustained intake of air as it flies without sustaining internal damage. Its ability to scoop up the abundant Pentanoids found in the sky has now drastically increased.
The Beardi has gained a new suffusion, allowing it to generate a constant artificial updraft below its wings. While very costly, the immense amounts of red mana gained by the Beardi through its diet now allows it to stay in the air perpetually.

It stays in one spot for most of it's life in order to conserve it's meager energy reserves, only moving when it's time to mate.

Some Gregli end up flying to the White Finger where they not only change color but also gain a second SUFFUSION in the form of Protective Scales becoming Scalegli. Unfortunately the scales do make it harder to move their wings so they are less maneuverable.

Pentanoids, despite the rapacious appetites of the larger creatures that call this hand home, have spread and multiplied across the world. Found drifting in the highest stretches of the White Finger’s upper atmosphere, to the deepest oceans of the murky Wrist, they have worked ceaselessly to accomplish goals none but the Mana itself can understand. Land and sea have been reborn anew, scraped and scratched and pushed about by the tides of microbes. In a wonderful cycle, the more the world shifts, the faster the Pentanoids seem to reproduce, and permanent Pentanoid clusters can be found sprouting up in certain conditions. Some form recognizable shapes as they grow, taking on new properties.

>Each finger now has biomes, with prevalent conditions and weather to help direct evolution. Pentanoids will gather in certain conditions of each area, forming hotspots of biological wealth.

The RED FINGER is DRY and EXTREME, with areas of scorching heat and freezing cold. There are Mountains, Cliffs, Caves, Volcanoes and Lava fields to be found. Pentanoids congregate in TOUGH CRYSTALS around snowy peaks and the edge of lava pools, soaking in the extremes.
The GREEN FINGER is WET and COMFORTABLE, with an abundance of Pentanoids. Growing tall and thin, these colonies start out grass height, but can stretch to grand height, forming GRAND TREES (if they escape the munching hordes). The larger colonies form hard, bark-like shells to protect the microbes within, but vulnerable roots can be found deep below. The biomes of the Green Finger range across all kinds of forest, from rainforest to roiling thickets.
The WHITE FINGER is DRY and WARM, and the least diverse of all the fingers. It’s endless planes are always bright and shiny, polished smooth by the mat of microbes. This work generates a lot of sand, which has piled up to form vast, scorching deserts. Pentanoids that sense uneven ground will sometimes take their polishing to an extreme, forming MIRROR PLATES along the ground. The air around these begin to sizzle, the beige light of the universe reflected back intensely. The sea, too, is nearly waveless, and the water so clear one can see to the seafloor.
The BLUE FINGER is SOAKED and ROILING. Vast storms carry tidal waves along the oceans, smashing into the multitude of islands, some of which have decided to disregard the concept of gravity. These floating havens house most of the above-water Pentanoids, hanging down in RIBBON STRANDS. When they detach, torn off by beast, wind or wave, they settle onto the seabed, continuing to grow until they form a veritable reef.
The BLACK FINGER is WET and HOSTILE. The oceans are dark and murky, the beige light easily snuffed out by even a few feet of water. On land, solid ground is hard to come by, with at least a few inches of brackish water a constant. Pentanoids form rib-like structures around carcasses, sinking into rotten flesh and bone. These SKELETON CAGES release toxic fumes as they break down the creature, as if to guard itself while feeding. The biomes here include fens, bogs, marshes and quicksand pits.

The Palms Biomes share similar, if less extreme, conditions to the Fingers. Overlap between adjacent territories is not uncommon, with an example being that one may see a small Blue floating island drifting over a White desert, or a Green pentanoid tree clinging to a Red cliff face.

The Wrists Biomes are subdued and muddled. Any one point of land may have 3 competing mana forces, Green grasses sprouting between White mirror fields along a Blue river edge. Pentanoids are less common here, their structures smaller and dis-organized. As before, the air is often cooler, and the light remains dim. It's hard, being at the edge of existence.

Suffusions are getting touched up. If an animal has a Suffusion and moves to an area where it can no longer access that Mana, it OFFICIALLY keeps that Suffusion, and its effects, until it replaces it. HOWEVER, said Suffusion cannot be improved or changed unless a source of the old Mana can be reliably found, such as heavily predating in a specialized (Ability/Suffusion) way on a creature who uses that Mana consistently.
Abilities are similar, but they MUST be recharged after use. While the creature doesn't necessarily LOSE the Ability by migrating to a new home, it can't really use that ability at all unless (once again) a source of Mana can be found.

A reminder to all that Suffusions are a way for a creature to 'achieve the impossible' considering their diets and physiques. A creature can evolve a shell the normal way, or it can get some White Mana and just Suffuse one. A creature can fly without Red or White, and swim without Blue, but Red/White Mana can very easily be used to improve flight, or Blue to improve swimming.

A reminder to all that you can change multiple Suffusions and Abilities in a post, along with a migration and/or physical change. Feel free to replace/touch up them whenever you feel is appropriate.

As a rough guideline, a creature with an Ability is superior to a creature with an opposing Suffusion (an Ability for offense can pierce a defensive oriented Suffusion). HOWEVER, Abilities will recharge every few days in the Fingers, every few weeks in the Palm, and every few months in the Wrist. Keep the location of this in mind when designing one. A hunting oriented Ability on a creature in the Wrist, even if it migrated from a Finger or Palm, means it would only be able to hunt once every few months.

If your creature is from a Finger, it can only use that one associated Mana, UNLESS it spends a Suffusion on a method of motion to allow migrations. This allows it to access the two adjacent Manas, via the Palm. If both slots are used for a movement Suffusion, then said creature would be speedy enough to visit the edges of the Palm from anywhere, and thus gain any type of Mana.

Creatures from the Palm can access up to 3 types of Mana as long as they are adjacent. A Suffusion for movement can allow you to access all 5 types of Mana. Easier than the Finger-bound creatures, for sure.

Creatures from the Wrist can have all 5 types of Mana, no Suffusion needed. That's the prize they get for living in a pretty dismal area.

Under the continued influence of Red mana, Manchads learn to unleash wild, untamed fury. They gain the ABILITY: BLOOD RAGE. For a duration, they become nigh-unstoppable, fighting fiercely enough to beat back any threats. The sheer rage displayed is enough to make prospective predators back down. It's not uncommon to see two Manchads activating this to settle a territorial dispute.

They still have the Horrid Screech from their ancestors >>4214867, but its changed in pitch to a PRIMAL BELLOW.

Some Manchads wander into the volcanic regions of the Red Finger in search of more crystals. While their predecessors would have had no issue, the inclusion of feathers makes it rather inconvenient for this new subgroup.

The Singed Manchad constantly have their feathers catch alight in the volcanic plains. A stray spark can easily ignite the tough fibres. The stubborn beasts persevere regardless.

This one hasn't yet realised that he's on fire.

Secure in their dominon above the Red Finger, The remaining Beardi population has been soaring through the red sky for aeons, harvesting the plentiful shoals of Pentanoids that multiply perpetually across it. The singular prerogative to stay airborne and feed more efficiently has led to extensive mutations in the species over time, to the point where it no longer lands even to sire offspring. The previously singular pair of primitive eyes has split, becoming large SUFFUSIONS capable of directly sensing the clouds of mana that emanates from aerial Pentanoid shoals, while its skull has partially retracted into its serpentine body in order to fascilitate a more aerodynamic form. Its vestigal claws have been discarded as it no longer lands, instead depositing its eggs inside a specialised fold meant to hold its spawn until maturity. This new variant has completely replaced its less optimised ancestor, rendered extinct by predation from Manlegs and Manchads during spawning season, with no way to defend themselves.

Aerdi has gained one new SUFFUSION; RED MANA VISION.

In the Green Finger, the warm soporific airs continue to mold its inhabitants, and newcomers as well.

The once-ferocious verohle >>4229457, having immigrated to the Finger, spend an increasing amount of their time lazing around on the surface of slow-moving water basking in the sunlight. They become gradually thicker and wider, their upper ribs growing outward to support a frill of skin that maximises this warming bounty.

This animal, the flat verohle, evolves further to become the round verohle; so-called because its long ribs now support a large gut. The round verohle is found in deeper or more tangled water than the flat, slowly negotiating its way along using diminished flippers.

The pointika, on the other hand, are longer-term inhabitants of the Green Finger. The ardean pointika, the descendant of >>4217036, evolves a long flexible neck which improves its agility and aim. Becoming top-heavy, it simultaneously begins to grow a balancing tail.

Next in its lineage is the high velocity pointika. Trading manoeuverability for raw power, it develops powerful muscles in a hump on its back -- these create an explosive force from the beak that quickly deals a fatal wound to prey.
