+Intro+

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

+Duty of a Space Marine is more than pure combat. Space Marine is an example of humanity overcoming the worst universe can throw at us, an ideal to be strived towards. Because of this reason, every dead Space Marine is means more than a lost Regiment, for his loss represents the death of hope for Humanity.+

Brethorius enters your office with another pile of letters:
>The preparations are going great, Chapter master, however it makes me feel more a bureaucrat, than a warrior. It is a sin, but I must admit occasionally I almost hope for some trouble to stir so we can get our guns into action once more... Maybe we should launch a recon strike into Triarchy space? Capture an admiral or two for intel? Just saying. What are your orders, Chapter Master?
>>

Aren't we going to focus all our resources on taking over Tartarus station. We don't have the time right now for anything else. We are sure to get intel from the Triarchy spies and traitors surely on board.

H Skargan!

Some orders of business

Questions:
1. How many Aeronautica Wings is Hagen contributing to the Crusade?

2. Any updates from the two patrol groups. Patrolling the Mortis border and Subsector Tyranus respectively.

3. Want regular updates from Trianon. When he arrives etc.

4. Have the Krieg 128th gone?

5. When Elegion is feeling better can we hear his full story?

6. After his recent trials has Damokleon's Psy Rating increased at all?

7. Any way at all to contact Eldar regarding the impending campaign against the Triarchy? Wondering if we can get them to help against the triarchy that supposedly actively hunt down xenos of all kinds including eldar. Perhaps Lord Inquisitor Garant has a way to contact them?

8. We want to recruit 100 extra scouts at a cost of 100w and 100 geneseed.

9. I propose we inform Sector Governor Gration Belisarius of the planned crusade. Inform him individually of course, so he knows and can strategise ahead while keeping it secret. He could provide investment perhaps?

10. Finally I propose that Punisher Squad & Xyptus infiltrate Tartarus and begin setting up anti-Alepros cells. Quietly at first. We should be working in conjunction with navy intelligence and logis strategos on this. Perhaps also the inquisition if they have any agents on the station? I imagine they must.
Such an infiltration effort should focus on building and supporting labour unions. Gaining the favour of local smalltime gangsters. Local businessmen with a nose for opportunity. Anyone we can turn against the ruling captains when the time is right, on the idea that they could benefit from a power vacuum. They should also know that the increased styrian traffic is going to be bad for trade eventually. That means bad for them.

Thoughts lads?
>>
>>4159885

Agree with the infiltration, can we focus on getting people in key positions? Like the defence batteries, life support, etc. for the labourers we're looking at
>>
>>4159885
I like the 100 scouts and talking to the sector governor. While we are talking to him we should mention that we are in need of aspirants and money to replace our expected losses. While we reclaim the sector that was allowed to fall and rot away under Ursus Dynasty.

1. How many Aeronautica Wings is Hagen contributing to the Crusade?
>This hasn't been discussed yet, but implicitly Hagen assured that adequate air support will be provided. For the time you can assume that as many Aeronautica Wings will be provided as required to provide support to your ground forces. Unless you plan some specific Aeronautica-only missions where significant numbers of them are required, it is not relevant at this point.

2. Any updates from the two patrol groups. Patrolling the Mortis border and Subsector Tyranus respectively.
>No updates as of now. They are not engaging Triarchy traffic, but there have been no major force concentrations or other things that would attract attention at this point. Unless you want to encourage them to step up the operations and start raiding Triarchy ships?

3. Want regular updates from Trianon. When he arrives etc.
>He will, though it will take a long time for him to reach Halo stars.

4. Have the Krieg 128th gone?
>They did, years ago. In their records the time spent in your service was "the calmest period any Krieg regiment had in over a century".

6. After his recent trials has Damokleon's Psy Rating increased at all?
>No, though he has made significant progress, he hasn't seen much frontline combat duty as a psyker recently.

7. Any way at all to contact Eldar regarding the impending campaign against the Triarchy?
>Lord Inquisitor Garant would definitely be able to arrange some sort of communique. Another option would be to try and reach out to Adriel's compatriots. However the question is what you would offer them? Eldar are already effectively at war with the galaxy, why would they take higher risks than normal?

8. We want to recruit 100 extra scouts at a cost of 100w and 100 geneseed.
>Noted.

9. I propose we inform Sector Governor Gration Belisarius of the planned crusade. Inform him individually of course, so he knows and can strategise ahead while keeping it secret. He could provide investment perhaps?
>How do you do this? Do you offer anything in return? It is wise to consult with Sector Governor before starting a crusade on his frontier.
>>
>>4159932
>>How do you do this? Do you offer anything in return? It is wise to consult with Sector Governor before starting a crusade on his frontier.

We visit him and tell him in person. He's sector governor so we offer some/most of the worlds we get.

But we want the capital obviously n our allies that contribute more get to pick first.
>>
>>4159932
>Unless you want to encourage them to step up the operations and start raiding Triarchy ships?
No thank you. They should have also been engaging in general imperial assistance as well. Answering distress calls etc. But I assume that was routine then.

>They did, years ago. In their records the time spent in your service was "the calmest period any Krieg regiment had in over a century".
Heh. Noted.

>However the question is what you would offer them? Eldar are already effectively at war with the galaxy, why would they take higher risks than normal?
Well the triarchy have shown to be violently expansionist and we have received footage that strongly implies they dabble in the ruinous powers (from Alexander Kerr). While the local Imperial is neutral with wuxide craftworld, the triarchy is likely aggressive towards them. We can make the offer to the Seekers. However Garant probably knows the best things to say to his own contacts. We don't even necessarily need their bodies on the ground to risk themselves. Their ships are of such power that just a few in the void would be a tremendous help.

>How do you do this? Do you offer anything in return? It is wise to consult with Sector Governor before starting a crusade on his frontier.
It would be rude to start a crusade WITHOUT telling him. Obviously in return his Sector is going to grow in size. There will be more planets in the Sector, more tithes being paid, and it eliminates a threat on our borders that has been growing more aggressive each year. What he wishes to contribute is his own decision. But obviously any of the reclaimed worlds will come under his ultimate command, while others in the direct crusade become the local imperial governor, they still answer to the sector governor.

+Infiltration of Tartarus+
If you are determined to infiltrate the space station, here are the actions you will need to take. Please note, that this is a high risk mission.

Does Xyptus personally take part in the operation or just plans it, without taking part personally? If yes, all of your rolls will be getting (+10) modifier and benefit from his character traits.
>Yes/No

+Please roll d100 for entering Tartarus [75%]
+Please roll d100 for infiltrating key positions [50%]
+Please roll d100 for sabotaging defensive systems [30%]
+Please roll d100 to evade counter-intelligence [30%]

Which task will Punisher Squad concentrate on? You will get to reroll that one.

Do you prefer to sacrifice agents or pay fat bribes?
>Agents [losses will hit spy network]
>Bribes [losses will hit your wallet, please note that bribing ship captains and such will be expensive]

I'd like to point out this is a very long term mission, maybe 1-2 years. There's no rush so caution is definitely the operative word.
With that in mind, they should definitely concentrate on EVADING COUNTER-INTELLIGENCE.

I also think Xyptus should take part.

We should pay bribes when necessary. However if the operation is discovered then sacrifice agents if necessary to evacuate the team and whatever they've managed to learn.

When you visit him, Gration greets you like an old friend:

>I'll be honest with you, in some ways, I certainly miss my days in Tombstone. True, weather controlled super-climate in my spire is much better, but it ain't as simple as it used to be. There was always a right answer, either Sister Serpentina, or Kerius or yourself, someone always had an answer to problems. At the end of training day, there was a summary. Not anymore. You want to launch a crusade. Obviously, I am fully on board and yes, Sector's resources as well, if need be. But I am not just Gration you used to know anymore. I mean, I still am, but at the same time, I am the balancing crux for eight thousand noble houses, trade guilds, Administratum cabals, cults, military officer cliques, factions large and small across the Sector. And all of them will want to have a piece of the pie. First thing that I have to note is that if, no, when, the crusade is successful, the territories will be connected to Sector Deus. I hope that is not under debate. Also, from the time I spent with the Chapter, I am aware that many of your brothers are... Ambitious. Which is commendable, obviously. But I mean, territorial ambitions. Do you intend to claim any of the planets for the Chapter realm?

Gration looks at you intently and maybe for the first time, you realise, that the man you are looking at is not just your protege and former student, but a powerful man in his own right, with his own agenda, even if a friendly one.
>>
>>4160054
"Of course Gration. Subsector Mortis will be reclaimed for the Imperium. Whilst various notable individuals within the Crusade, Generals, Admirals and such, may be awarded with positions as planetary governors, they will still be within Sector Deus and therefore subordinate to the Sector Governor.

As for our own ambitions, I do not think my Chapter is well suited for governing a world that needs to be rebuilt, reborn, recolonised for the Imperium. We were suited for completely uninhabited territory like Varda, but restoring Subsector Mortis requires diplomacy, faith, and a human touch.

Having said that, naturally we will seek some restitution for our losses from the bounty of our vanquished foes. Raw wealth, rescued relics, and other pieces of raw value that we ourselves reclaim. But not territory or people en masse."

Y/N lads?
>>
>>4160054
Gration is not only our favourite sector governor we've yet to meet, he's also the best. Adding the new territory to any other than the one the Ghosts have sworn to protect would be lunacy.
So of course they'll be part of sector Deus.
>>
>>4160062
We should mention ships in particular. Our fleet is too small for a proper chapter fleet and we'll be boarding as many as we can to rectify that. Might as well let him know in advance.
>>
>>4160054
I agree that all the worlds of subsector mortis will returned to the fold. However as the chapter assigned to his and the sector's defense we are understrength and financially broke. To rectify this I propose a 10% tax of all output on all conquered worlds for 100 yrs to build up the Imperium and to punish the heretics

->Internal debate:
I am against taking any more planets for the chapter, now OR in the future, with the forces we hab(1000 MAX) we cannot hold AND be able to operate elsewhere

to Gration:
I fear, the planets after the war will be in no shape to claim. Emperor knows, we might have to repopulate them fully, given the suspected nature of our opponents. Keep that in mind when anyone asks for a piece of the "spoils" of war

Entering Tartarus [V]
Infiltrating key positions [V]
Sabotaging defensive systems [X]
Evade counter-intelligence [V]

Preparatory phase of the operation goes almost as smooth as could be hoped. Punisher squad especially proved themselves to be extremely capable, their law enforcement background surprisingly made them very efficient at knowing how counter-intelligence works and helping your spies to evade it.

You now have a few dozens of individuals who have managed to achieve important roles within the station, effectively allowing you to significantly reduce any resistance upon your arrival. Alternatively, you could even try to organise an internal coup [15% chance] or try to destroy the station [8%]. These chances can be increased with additional resources.

However unfortunately all the defensive systems are under close supervision of Daikan Alepros' most trusted henchmen, so they remain outside your reach.

Gration thinks about it, while swirling amasec in his glass.
>You are even more modest than I would have thought, Chapter Master. Humility is a commendable trait, but I must admit I am surprised at your lack of ambition. I perfectly understand and agree that whatever plunder you claim from the planets, shall be yours to distribute among your generals. They shall become planetary governors, who will be accountable to me. However as you also well noticed, this crusade will also have to be followed by a massive rebuilding effort and potentially a decades, if not centuries, long resistance movement. I must admit, I almost hoped that you will create an outpost in the new Subsectors, this would both fortify our frontier and solidify our control of the new territories. Regarding taxation of the planets, that would be a good idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if they will run into deficit for a considerable length of time, depending on how much damage you inflict while conquering them. But that is the business between you and planetary governors. However I must note that my spies are telling me that you approach Hagen before you did me. Please do not do that again. Technically, he is under my command. That doesn't look good. Also, if you are already going to leverage Sector's fleet and military, while asking for material support and then leaving our administration with the reconstruction bill... There will be opposition among the nobility.

We would prefer expanding our territory nearby our current planets due to our already strained resources.
However, our loyalty still belongs to the Godemperor and humanity, so of course we'd be willing to deploy a sizable force over a longer period of time to help you in your efforts to pacify the newly conquered territory, even without the reward of new fiefdoms of our own. Loyalty is it's own reward after all and capable planetary governors who look upon the Emperor's angels favourably and with the mental acuity to distinguish between problems they can solve and those they require our help with will provide more stability than 10 fortresses of our own.
That force should help you with most of the more serious headaches you'll face in your newly acquired territory, Gration. If you wish to lighten the weight of our responsibilities, then keep the Chapter in mind, should governorships near our planets become available or one of the current governors force you to remove his line from its fiefdom.
The reason why our fresh, and in most of its history severely depleted, chapter managed to protect the sector from Horrors most people couldn't even imagine and will never hear about is three-fold. Awareness of our rightful place in the galaxy and the responsibilities attached to it, faith in and loyalty to the vision of Him on Terra of humanity and the friends and allies we've made along the way, which we've always done our best to protect, confide in and respect.
You are among those precious few, but so are men like Kerius Dermont and Hagen. They are mortals I respect for their skill in land and void warfare and also appreciate on a personal level, which, as you might imagine, is rather rare for a transhuman like me. We tend to have trouble with connecting with mortal minds the way you seem to be able to do so effortlessly among one another.
I lack the hubris to suggest an undertaking like this without the input of these friends, so don't see it as a slight and let the sector know that you're among the few mortals who seem worthy of my respect.
>*offer handshake*
Kerius is a good man, capable soldier and excellent general, while Hagen mirrors his skills in the void. You, however, were born to rule, which is the reason I talk to you now about the lands we will conquer for you. I just didn't want to discuss who gets which cuts of the prey before I've prepared the hunt.
If anybody ever doubts that, just remind them of what we did with the ursine mongrels who thought they could question your right to rule.

Brother Hull, for maybe the first time in his life, is facing this weird feeling, which he struggles to even put into words. He is unsure of himself, anxious, doubtful. As the cleansing of Triot was coming to a close, the actions intensified, there was more blood, more death, more combat. Company was taking heavy losses, something unseen from the first battles on Varda versus the Ork klans there, back when the Chapter was young an inexperienced. While Hull himself hasn't participated in those battles, he decided to go and read through the Book of the Glorious Dead. While going through the pages he for the first time realised how many of the Ghosts have put down their lives over these past few decades - 706 as of today. For some reason Hull turns slightly melancholic and spends the following weeks contemplating this. What is his conclusion?
1. Only in death does duty end. [Hull becomes Deathwisher, +generate WP 20+3d10]
2. They died because they were weak, I am different, I will be different. [Hull gains d10 Corruption]
3. It doesn't matter how many of them you kill, there will always be more. It's not personal, it's merely war. [Hull loses all Hatred traits]
4. I need to make sure no one else enters this book. [Hull starts mentoring scouts, but any scout deaths will make him doubt himself again.]
5. Destruction of the Iron Warrior geneseed was a mistake... Void Squad is tougher than most other marines, they should have made more of us. [Hull gets identity - Iron Warrior.]

Well, he was always a jovial. Tough to shake him with grief, losses or danger.

I would have picked 5 by the way.

Tiberius kneels in front of you and extends his gift - a finely crafted ceremonial belt, with an engraved history of Vardan colonisation on it, the coming of Mormarkians, the Betrayal, the battles and the blood and the achievements. On the buckle you can see the Chapter Master, in a battle stance, with warriors behind him.
>This belt bears the history of our world and I named it Belt of Varda. It is my gift to the Chapter, my lord.

[Belt of Varda gives +5 bonus when interacting with Vardans, Mormarkians or Ghosts of Retribution. It is also remarkably well crafted and would make for a fine gift to someone.]

Do you:
>Give the belt to Kvei Lohar, Governor of Varda, he deserves it for his faithful service
>Give the belt to Fabricator General Regon, he is our oldest ally
>Lock it in Chapter reliquarium until the right time comes
>Auction it away for the highest bidder [3d10W]

He's never let us down, and put his own money up to hire lawyers in the wake of the Betrayal at Varda. Very solid guy all around.

Can we not... wear it?
Aside from that, Kvei.
Regon isn't much of a talker (or belt-wearer, I assume) anyway.

23:01 Rafael Can we gift the belt to the office of the governor of Varda rather than Lohar personally?
Raf is a smart man and a valuable new addition to this quest.

No. Nothing good can be born from rotten seed.

Well done, Kvei is extremely pleased with this sign of recognition. He gets trait [Loyal to the Chapter: Kvei Lohar will not look for further career opportunities outside of the Chapter, content with his position.]

Retcon due to continuity clash. Instead, it seems that the soulword has been related to good news regarding Vrvaska Dynasty of Doria IV, who are very pleased that the Chapter has finished cleansing of Triot. They are influential magnates controlling VaskCorp and now intend to move some of their operations to Triot. They would like to use your prestige and good word with the Triot government to help with with ensuring a good contract conditions. They are offering generous benefits.

> Accept their gift, but explain, that the Chapter is impartial. [+50W]
> Accept their gift and extend recommendations to Triot Council. [+50W]
> Forge a more detailed cooperation agreement and put Chapter weight behind the ambitions of VaskCorp [+50W, +10W income per year from VaskCorp Triot operations]
> Request VaskCorp expertise in manufacturing in exchange for your help
[+3 Thunderhawks in 5 years]
> Refuse their gift

> Accept their gift and extend recommendations to Triot Council. [+50W]
Dorians fought well on Triot and the planet is a good loyal world. Triot can use some backing in redeveloping their industry.

We are feudalists, not impartial free market capitalists.
Theren is nothing wrong with this.

>VaskCorp is extremely pleased to receive your reply. We look foward to cooperate with the Chapter. Triot Council already agreed to grant us exclusive rights in rebuilding armaments industry on the planet. We will be in touch with you in a few years to update you on the situation [Add expected event in 4 years - VaskCorp update].

Good session guys, great work. Chapter Master gets +2 xp, and you also earn +2 Chapter xp. Hull gets +1 xp as well.

Also, as next year Tartarus infiltration will be complete, please list your plan/actions to take it.

Have a great night and see you soon, most likely next Monday!
