So, news!

Nothing really new. We're not under statewide lockdown here in Carolina yet, but I expect it won't be too terrible long. Thankfully, there's not a whole hell of a lot I do outside the house anyway, other than hit the range or my FLGS, so eh. No big loss I guess? Either way, I'll be around!

Archive here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Strike%20Witches%202016 for anyone looking to jump in- we're actually in a bit of a short series that was only supposed to be one thread, haha, so you can jump right in probably- though in this case we're going to be seeing a lot of characters from the OG 89 run. Either way, if you're looking to jump in, ask some questions about what's up and I'm sure the gents in thread can sort you- or I can, either way. Haha!

I think that's it from me!

=================================================================

The Bishop house is bigger than maman's. It's almost intimidating how big it is- it dwarfs your maman's rental car as she pulls into the driveway, and you sit there in the back seat till she walks around to open the door. She smiles down at you and nods. "Dis be ya papa's house" she says, confirming it for you- you didn't think she was wrong, of course- maman is never wrong- but You'd wondered if maybe this wasn't another of her friends. Somehow, you think, that would have been a little easier.

She opens the trunk of the car as you step out, turning towards her as she pulls your bookbag out and hands it to you- you packed it yourself, under her direction, though she packed some of your other things for you. They're in the rolling suitcase she pulls out next, giving you the handle and letting you pull it along behind- while she pulls a third bag out of the trunk. That's things she says you'll need, but you didn't want to pack- things like your language books. You hadn't been excited when she pointed out that your sisters probably could teach you Russian as well- who needs to know all those languages?

It's hard to not notice, as you walk across the drive, your hand in Maman's, the man and the girls standing on the porch. He's got a smile on his face- the five girls- three of them definitely older than you, while two look to be about your age- look about like you feel. Another woman stands in the door, wiping her hands on a kitchen towel.

"Good to see you again, Brigitte." The man says, then smiles at you. "And you must be Morgan, right?"

You nod, but maman squeezes your hand. "Yes, sir." you say, quietly.

His smile gets wider. "You don't have to call me sir." He says.

"Ya goan have ta fight ta get him ta not."Maman says. "Ya be ok wid keepin him for de now? Be udda people who be willin, if it be too much trouble."

The man shakes his head. "I shouldn't have let it go as long as it has." he says. "He deserves to know who his dad is, right?"

You see maman nod.

1/2
>>
"We're about to eat, Brigitte, if you'd like to stay for supper." The woman says. "This jerk wanted to order pizza, but there's steak and spaghetti if you want it."

Maman smiles. "De offer be appreciated, but I be needin ta go." She says. "You all ok wid dis? I know de white witch don't necessarily like me much non."

The woman frowns. "Tabby can get over it." She says, though not without thought. "Morgan's as much a part of the family as any of our girls."

Maman nods. "Dat's fine. If de situation changes, ya let dem know to call me, oui?"

The woman nods. "Sure. Thanks Brigitte."

"Tank you." She says, shaking her head. "Ya be doin him a favor, one he be sore needin, even if he don't be actin like it. Ya give me a minute ta say goodbye."

She nods. "C'mon girls. You can meet your brother in a minute." She says, opening the door and ushering them inside."

Maman squats down in front of you, her knee popping as she does so. She smiles. "Ya bein good foah ya daddy an his wives, oui? Don be causin dem no trouble, non. You get along wid ya sistahs an I be seein ya in about eight weeks."

Eight weeks is an awful long time- all summer, nearly. You know you couldn't have stayed at home, but for a second you wish you'd have taken your auntie Henrika's offer to let you stay in Coronado with her. Still, you know it's too late to change your mind now.

"Give ya maman a hug." Maman says, and you do, then she gives you a kiss on the cheek. "Ya be good." She says again, standing up as Frank walks over.

"Don't be teaching him none o ya bad habits, baron." She says, smiling again.

"Who, me?" Frank says, laughing. "Perish the thought!"

"I be serious." Maman says. "None o dis hair on fire wildness ya be doin."

Frank nods. "I was thinking of getting him up in a private plane though, if that's alright. Prop plane, nothing crazy. No jets."

"Dat be fine if he want to do dat." She says. "I don't be mindin if ya do tings, just- no craziness. I know ya kind, Baron."

He laughs again. "We'll be good." He says, and she nods.

"I be holdin ya to it." She says. "He be my bebe boy, aftah all. I'll see ya in two month, baron. Be good, Morgan."

and with that she turns and walks the short distance to the car and gets in, waving as she pulls off. You stand outside for a minute, watching her pull out of the driveway and head down the road before she turns back towards town and is lost from view.

"You hungry, Morgan? Rachel cooked dinner, if you want some. Or we can go get you situated in your room." Frank says, looking down at you.

[] I'm kind of hungry.

[x] I'm kind of hungry.

"I'm kind of hungry." You say, quietly. Maman got you a happy meal off the train, but that's been a couple hours ago- and she often accuses you of having a bottomless hole for a stomach anyway.

The man- Frank- nods. "Your Maman said you might be." He says. "Rachel cooked dinner, let's get on inside."

You nod, following him, stubbornly holding on to your rolling luggage as he tries to help you get it up on the front porch. It's heavy, but you manage after a minute- though you have to use both hands to do it. He still holds the door for you as you roll the suitcase inside the living room, looking around at how big and open it all is- the living room runs the entire width of the house, with the back wall seemingly made of windows, looking out over a huge yard enclosed by a wooden fence. There's a gigantic dog out there- even from here you can tell he probably stands taller than you do.

Maman won't let you get a dog- it would be too hard to take care of one, she says. You think she just doesn't like them.

"Go ahead and set your things there by the stairs." Frank says, putting one hand on your back and pointing to the stairs off to the left. "We can get you situated after dinner."

You nod, rolling your suitcase over to the stairs and standing it against the railing there, then pulling off your backpack and putting it on the floor next to the suitcase. Frank's waiting for you as you turn around, and he smiles. "Maman said you're pretty quiet. You'll have to be careful with that here, your sisters can be pretty talkative."

You nod again. Maman had said that things would be different here, and that the Bishops were a different kind of family, and there'd be more than one maman in the house, and all your sisters. You weren't sure about that, really. You were excited- you did want to meet your sisters and your dad, but at the same time- three mamans sounded confusing.

"Over here, Morgan." Frank says, motioning you to a seat next to one of the older girls. "You can sit next to Stasya."

You nod, walking over and climbing into the chair. You can see over the edge of the table- if only just- and reach everything you think.

"Stasya, make sure he's ok, will you?" Frank says, taking his own seat.

"Yes, father." She says, the looks over at you. "What do you want to drink?" She asks, her voice kind of mean.

"Be easy, Stasya. That's your only little brother." Frank says.

"I'm sorry, father." She says.

"Don't apologize to me." Frank says, laughing. "Apologize to him."

"I'm sorry." She says to you. "I didn't intend to be curt with you."

[x] Just nod.

You nod- more or less accepting the apology. You can't tell if she's sad you didn't say anything back or not- if she is, she doesn't look like it. She helps you pour a glass of milk and then helps you with your food, putting a pretty good serving of spaghetti on your plate, along with a couple of meatballs.

The table is full of people, you notice- besides Stasya to your left, there's another older girl past her, then a slightly younger one next to that girl. On the other side are two more girls, the ones that look to be about your age.

"Was your train ride up here pretty fun, Morgan?" The woman asks. "I'm Rachel, but you can call me Slider, if you want."

You nod.

She smiles. "Good. I've got a room over the garage all set up for you, your maman said you'd like it out there." She says. "I'll have Stasya help you up there after supper."

"I would like to help." The girl on the far end of your side of the table says, her voice accented almost as heavily as mamans- though you don't know what kind of accent it is.

Rachel nods. "That's fine, you can help too Natalya." She says. "The two of you can show him around and introduce him to Rufus if he wants." She looks at you. "Rufus is our dog, he'll be excited to meet you too."

"Speaking of, isn't Katya due home soon?" Frank asks, and Rachel nods.

"Tomorrow afternoon. She's bringing Wendy with her." She says. "Wendy's got a race in Seattle next weekend, so she'll be staying here, her plane's going to be at Bremerton National. Why?"

"Well, I was thinking I might have her take Morgan up in the two place." He says. "Brigitte thought it'd be ok, and I can't exactly get him on post to take him up in a tomcat anymore, they've gotten rid of most of the wartime hacks."

"You think Wendy would want to?" Rachel asks. "For that matter, do you think he's going to want to? I don't remember Brigitte being a huge fan of flying."

Frank looks over at you. "What do you think, Morgan. Would you be interested in a plane ride if we can arrange it?"

[x] Nod.

Your eyes get wide at the prospect and you nod excitedly, causing Rachel to laugh.

"Well, there goes any hope of you saying he's not yours." She says to Frank.

He shakes his head. "I'd have never done that anyway." He responds. "Alright, we'll talk to them when they get here tomorrow, then."

"Don't forget you're also supposed to have that video conference with Sammy tomorrow afternoon too." Rachel reminds him. "And you can't miss that, regardless of anything else."

Frank frowns, but nods. "Yeah, I know. I've thought about inviting her here to stay in the guest cottage for a while while she gets her head back on." He says.

Rachel shrugs. "If that's what you want." She responds. "Do you think it'd help?"

Frank shakes his head. "Long term, no. I know she wants to just live here and let us take care of her forever, but I can't ask any of you to agree to that."

"We can talk about it later." Rachel says. "You've got that video conference with her tomorrow, and then you'll talk to Wendy?"

Frank nods. "Yeah, I think so. We should be able to get Morgan up with her before the weekend, I think, and then maybe some during the week if she's not doing practice laps."

Your maman was right, you think. They talk an awful lot- Maman talks to you a bit, of course, but these people seem to always want to be hearing someone's voice. You're not sure you like it much- though you do learn a lot, indirectly, by it. You finish your meal first, but you're full enough that you don't ask for seconds- you don't like overeating, it makes you feel sick. Instead you sit quietly till everyone else finishes, and then you stand up, pushing your chair in like maman's always taught you.

The two girls are waiting for you by the stairs. "I'm Natalya." The silver-haired one says, though her expression doesn't change. "I'm being your big sister."

1/2
>>
"One of your big sisters." The other- Stasya, you remember- says. "Do you need help carrying your things?"

You shake your head, gathering your backpack and your suitcase, and she shrugs. "Very well, follow me."

"Letting me help you with your luggages." Natalya says, putting her hand next to yours on the handlebar. You frown, but don't try to pull it away from her- she seems insistent, and it's not use arguing, you know. You end up being kind of thankful for the help at the top of the stairs, recognizing that it'd have been a real struggle for you by yourself.

At the top of the stairs there's a hallway in front of you, and short open walkway that connects to another hallway off to your left. It's that direction that Stasya takes, leading you past a bathroom and down another hall. "Your room is over by Natalya's." She says, pausing in front of the bathroom. "This is the bathroom you'll be using. I'll get you a towel and toothpaste if you need it."

You nod, though you don't need either- maman made sure you packed your toothbrush and your toothpaste, along with three towels and a washcloth and soap.

"This is mine room." Natalya says as you pass another door. "Yours is just down the hall, seeings?"

Stasya opens the door and flips on the light. The room is bigger than yours back home, you see immediately, but not by a whole lot. It's also kind of like a hotel room, you think, there's nothing there that says any one person lives here, no toys on the floor or anything. Maman made you promise to keep your room here clean, too, so you can't make too much of a mess.

Still, you set down your suitcase and put your backpack on the bed, and look out the window once. It looks out over the driveway and the pad in front of the house. You can see part of the front lawn as well, and the other end of the house.

You turn around and your two older sisters are waiting for you. Stasya looks ready to say something, but she's interrupted by Rachel calling for her. She frowns at the interruption- Rachel wants her help with the quints, she says.

"Natalya, you stay with him for now." Stasya says, orders, really, and turns to leave.

Natalya nods, then looks at you. "are you wanting to meet Rufus?" She asks. "He is a large dog, but he is good. If this is not what you are wanting to do, I can showing you the rest of he house."

There's a lot more than I ever get into- I inherited a setting with history docs outlining the world state to about 1938 or thereabouts, with stuff implied all in SWQ and it's associated stories that stretched back further. I've done a poor job getting outside the view of the MCs, I know, but I don't really know how to go about it, to be honest.

[x] I'd like to meet Rufus.

You nod. "I'd like to meet Rufus." you say, quietly.

Natalya nods. "Follow me." She says, confidently, leaving the room and heading back down the hallway quickly- you almost have to run to keep up with her.

She pushes open the big doors onto the back porch and the gigantic dog's head swings up, ears perked forward. "Rufus." She calls, and he stands up- you have to check again at how big he seems to be- you're sure he's taller than you, and even from here he's kind of intimidating. Still, he doesn't bark or growl or anything- he just trots over and sits in front of you, panting. "Rufus, this is being Morgan. He is our little brother."

The dog seems to pause to digest this information, looking at you to tilt his head first to one side, then the other- before licking you in the face happily and bouncing up, his tail wagging. He speeds out to the yard, grabbing one of several slightly faded tennis balls and galloping back, dropping it at your feet and rushing to the end of the deck before turning around, tail still wagging.

"He is wanting you to throw it." Natalya supplies- though you'd already guessed that. At least he seems friendly- you kind of wish you could have a dog. You nod, though, and pick up the ball, throwing it as hard as you can and being kind of disappointed you weren't able to get it farther than just past the pool and into the grass. Still, Rufus seems happy enough with it, running around the pool and snapping the ball back up before carrying it deeper into the yard- tossing it into the air and running after it.

Natalya turns at the sound of the door opening at the same time you do- it's just Frank stepping out onto the porch, smiling as he sees Rufus tearing around the back yard. "Meeting ol Rufus, huh?" He says, then laughs. "He's a good dog, but don't come out here with any bacon, he'll try to bowl you over to get at it."

You nod, taking the warning to heart- you're sure you don't want to try to fight with that dog for any bacon. Then again, you think, you might try and bring him some anyway.

"You showing him around the house, Natalya?" He asks, and the girl nods.

"Da." She responds.

"Do you mind if I come with?" Frank asks, and she shakes her head.

"Then let's go take a look at the shop." He says, pointing to an outbuilding nearby. It's pretty big, you think, with a pair of big garage doors in front and a little balcony above them.

You walk across the yard, following Frank, though Natalya sticks close by you. You kind of like your big sister- she doesn't seem to feel the need to talk as much as Frank does, which is alright by you. She kind of reminds you of maman in a way- you're glad she's here.

1/2
>>
You don't think about it too long though, before you've walked down the paved path and arrived at the shop. Frank opens the door and steps inside, flipping on the lights. Honestly, it's nothing you haven't really seen before- old mister Smith has a shop like this on his property, and you've gotten to see it when he's done work for Maman. You even got to help him once, but he wouldn't let you near the machines, so all you did was get to play with some of his hand tools.

"A lot of this is your mom's." Frank says. "The strikers over there are theirs, and all the pictures are us from a couple years ago. That flag up there is the one that was at our base at the end of the war, they let us take it home."

You nod, not impressed- Maman has one she says she took from the bad guys at the end of the war.

"Most of the machines down here are for Merlin, though." He says. "She hasn't used them in a while, but I don't know enough to really do anything with them." He smiles. "I've got my tools for my motorcycle, and that's about it."

You nod.

"Upstairs is Merlin's room, when she's here, otherwise it's not really used that much." He says. "We'd have let you use it, but we thought you might be happier in the house with the rest of us." He pauses, looking at you for a response.

[] Nod.- you're happier in the house.

[x] Nod.- you're happier in the house

You nod- you're happier in the house, you think.

"Good!" Frank says. "Well, there's no point in going upstairs, let's go back to the house, and I can show you the game room."

You nod, and he turns around, letting you and Natalya out of the door before closing it behind himself and stepping past you. "We tried having all the Nintendos and everything in the living room, but we couldn't get it really worked out, so they're all in one room now. You like Nintendo games?" He asks.

You nod. Maman lets you play them some, but never more than a couple hours a day on the weekends, and just an hour a day during the week. You wish she'd let you play more, but she insists that you spread out your activities- and, of course, she keeps you busy with new languages, too. She says knowing all those things will be useful later on for you, and Maman is never wrong you guess, so you do what she says.

Frank leads you back through the house, pointing out the bedrooms on the bottom floor, along with the offices. He says there's nothing in those- he's got one and Ice has another, but there's nothing in either you need to worry about. You nod when he says that- it's like Maman's office then, and you're not allowed in there.

There's another bathroom down this way, and one bedroom with the door open. "This is the quint's room." Frank says, pausing in front of the door. Rachel is inside, but you don't see Stasya.

"Shh," Rachel commands. "They're asleep, and if you wake them up, you can deal with them."

Frank nods, and hurredly ushers you along to the last room at the end of the hall. "This is the game room." He says, stepping out of the way so Natalya can lead you inside. There's a big TV in here, along with an old leather sofa and a lot of pictures of jets on the walls. There's a display case on the back wall with various things in it.

"Your maman said you should only play a couple hours a day on the nintendo." Frank says, and you frown. You'd hoped she wouldn't tell him. "But we usually don't mind, so long as you don't go too overboard with it. She said she was teaching you Chinese, too, but there's no one in the house that speaks it, so I thought maybe Natalya would get you started on some Russian?"

"I would be glad to be of teaching my little brother." She says. "But I also speak Chinese and can help him learn that language, if he'd prefer."

"What do you think, Morgan?" Frank asks. "Which would you rather do?"

Honestly, you'd rather do neither, but you're sure maman wouldn't be happy with that.

[] Chinese- you don't want to start another language.

You shake your head. "Chinese." You say- as much as you hate it, you'd rather not learn another language just yet.

Frank nods. "That's fine. Don't feel like learning a whole new language just yet?"

You shake your head.

He smiles. "Yeah, I can understand that. The girls around here drive me crazy sometimes, speaking all the languages they do. Even Ice is learning Russian, can you believe it?" He laughs. "Well, maman said your bedtime is about ten, but you can stay up a little longer if you want. I bet you're pretty tired though, from all the travel?"

You nod- you are getting pretty sleepy, and you'd like to just take a bath and get to bed. You learned that there's no point in arguing with grownups on this- you never really win, regardless of how hard you try.

"Ok. Why don't you head on up and get yourself ready for bed?" He says. "I get the feeling you won't need any help, will you?"

You shake your head, and he nods. "Alright. I'm sure Natalya will get you up in the morning for breakfast."

Natalya nods.

"Then why don't you two head up to bed?" He says.

You nod, and you and Natalya both leave the room. "He is talking too much sometimes." She says, as you head up the stairs. "But he is excited about this. We all are. I will get you up for breakfast early, so there is still plenty for us. I know Katya-mother will be eager to meet you as well, she has spoken of you before."

You frown- you don't know any Katya, though maybe she knows maman. Once upstairs, though, Natalya is quiet- instead patiently waiting for you to dig your toothbrush and toothpaste out of your bag, and your PJs from their place in the suitcase. She helps you find the stepstool in the bathroom so you can reach the sink, and then steps out, closing the bathroom door so you can change into your PJs.

She pauses by the door as you crawl into bed after fetching Hobbes out of his place in the backpack. "Do you wish for me to leave the door cracked?" She says. "Anastasia and Christine both prefer to be able to see the hall light."

[] No, you don't need the hall light.
[] Yes, please. You don't want to be alone in the dark.

[x] No, you don't need the hall light.

You shake your head, and she nods. "Very well. I am just down the hall if you need me." She says, then pauses. "Sleep well little brother." And with that, she closes the door, leaving you alone with Hobbes.

You take a few minutes to reflect on your day- maman says you should never go through a day without learning something, and today you realize you've learned a lot. You understand why maman told you so many times it would be different than you're used to- Frank talks far more than you're used to maman talking, and seems like he lets your sisters have more fun than you're used to getting to have. Maman has a lot of rules, sometimes, and while she says you should always enjoy yourself as much as you can, she also insists on you doing a lot of things you don't enjoy, too.

You blink as you hear the sound of rain outside- it was cloudy when you were meeting Rufus, but you didn't think it looked like that much rain. You walk over to the window and push the blinds aside to see the rain falling down gently- there's no thunder or lightning, just rain. You watch it for a minute, interested in the tricks of light it plays on the window with the orange street light over the driveway outside.

You turn back to bed a minute later, silently crossing the room and climbing up into the huge bed they've got made up for you. It's at least as big as maman's back home, far bigger than the one you're used to. Still, it's soft and comfy, with just enough blankets to keep you warm without getting too hot. You're asleep pretty quickly, curled up against one of the three huge poofy pillows on the bed.

Morning comes quickly- you're woken by the smell of bacon and a light knock at your door. You roll out of bed and pad over, opening it a crack to find Natalya and the other of the two older girls, who smiles at you. "Good morning, little brother." She says. "I'm Lilya. Would you like to join us for breakfast? Father says it's also ok if you want to sleep in some more, you've had a long trip."

More sleep does sound like a treat- maman never lets you sleep in without you being sick or something- but you are pretty hungry, and the bacon smells amazing. You like bacon.

[] You'll sleep in a bit more- you are pretty tired.
[] It's too light outside to sleep anymore anyway- you'll come down to breakfast.

[x] It's too light outside to sleep anymore anyway- you'll come down to breakfast.

"I'll come down for breakfast." You say quietly, getting a smile and a nod from Lilya.

"We'll wait for you here." She says.

You nod and close the door again, pulling clean clothes out of your suitcase and changing into them. You're not sure if you should put shoes on or not- maman says you shouldn't wear them in the house, but they didn't seem to have any problems with it last night.

You open the door to find your two big sisters standing there, waiting like they said they would. Lilya smiles again at you, and indicates you should follow her- so you do, heading back down the stairs to the table. There's more people there- two different adults, you note. Both are girls, one with short silver hair, the other with puffy brown hair. Both of them look up when you reach the bottom of the steps, and the silver haired lady smiles.

"This is our Morgan, then?" She asks, standing up to walk over. She walks kind of like maman, you notice. Not exactly the same, though, and she's got an accent like Natalya's- much lighter, you can understand her a little more easily, but still. She bends over to bring her face level with yours and smiles. "You can call me Katnyan, little one." She says.

You nod, and she smiles. "I see you take greatly after your mother." She smiles again. "This is not so terrible, I am thinking. Your father can be a silly man. Do not let him tell you otherwise." She turns and goes back to the table without saying anything else. Natalya guides you to a seat next to hers, and makes sure you've got a full glass of orange juice and a plate with bacon, some scrambled eggs- your favorite- and a couple of pieces of toast.

They're quieter at breakfast than they were last night, you notice- though they still talk a bit. The other woman, the brown haired one, looks at you a couple times and smiles- she has a nice smile, you think, but almost looks sad.

1/2
>>
"I see I'm late for breakfast." Frank announces as he approaches the table- you see him pause when Katya stands up and walks over to hug him.

"As ever, husband." She says. "We are expecting this now."

"Katyua." Frank sounds surprised. "We weren't expecting you in till this afternoon."

Katya nods. "We were not expecting to be home until then. However we were fortunate on our connecting flight and were able to leave several hours earlier than we thought."

You see Frank frown. "I bet that wasn't that great for Wendy." He says, looking at the brown haired woman, who shakes her head hurriedly.

"Oh no, it was quite alright." She says. "Alyssa saw me off yesterday quite easily, and all our equipment is at the airport in Olympia. I flew in the press aircraft, as miss Katya indicated there were some reporters and a writer for sports illustrated that had expressed a desire to ride along before the race."

Frank nods. "So you've got the two-seater here as well?"

"Oh yes." The woman- who you assume is Wendy- responds. "It's becoming quite popular for the press, and we think it's good for business to make friends."

"What about a favor for a friend?" Frank asks.

"You have but to ask, sir Frank, and my services are yours." Wendy says with a smile. He nods towards you. "Morgan there hasn't been up for a proper flight before, they even took the train here. Do you think you could take him on a couple laps around the pattern before your race sometime? Doesn't have to be now, but this week, maybe?"

Wendy looks at you and smiles. "I'd be delighted to!" She says. "Will this be your first time in an airplane, Morgan?"

You nod, and she smiles again. "Oh, how wonderful! Yes, I'd be delighted to take him, when should we expect to be able to go?"

Frank shakes his head with a laugh. "Whenever you're ready, I guess." He says, looking over at you. "Right, Morgan? You'll be ready whenever Wendy is?"

[] Nod- You're excited, but you're happy to wait.

[x] Nod- You're excited, but you're happy to wait.

You nod. You're excited, but you're happy enough to wait. Maman insists it's rude to rush a lady, and being rude is the worst thing you can do to someone.

Wendy smiles. "Well, I don't imagine we'll be able to go today, I've yet to get a shower and could use a nap still." She says. "If that's quite alright with you, master Morgan." The way she says it indicates she's not really asking, so much as she's telling you, but you nod all the same. "I do look forward to it though, perhaps we'll be able to go early tomorrow and make a day of it."

You nod again, thinking how it's going to be hard to wait- you have all day today now to wait, and you know how long days are when you're waiting for something. You're sure your sisters will want to do something, though- Natalya, especially, seems anxious to spend time with you.

Wendy smiles again. "We'll plan on that, then." She says, nodding. "It should be quite fun!"

"Well, that still leaves today." Frank says. "I've got that video call with Merlin, that's early this afternoon, so we can't do anything till after then." He looks down towards your end of the table, at your sisters. "Can you girls think you can hang out with your brother for the rest of the morning? Find something to do?"

Natalya nods. "Of course." She says. "Perhaps we could going on a walk around the lake?"

Frank frowns. "I think it would be better if you stayed on the property, at least for now." He says.

"The pool, then?" She asks. "It is a nice day for swimming."

"How does that sound, morgan?" Frank asks.

[] Nod- maman's got a pool back home, and you go swimming a lot, but it's fun and you don't mind.

Ok, votes called!

What I think, gents, is we'll end up having some more tinymorgan threads in the future, but next week we'll be going back to the main storyline.
>>
[x] Nod- maman's got a pool back home, and you go swimming a lot, but it's fun and you don't mind.

You nod- that sounds fine to you. Maman has a pool back home, and you go swimming a lot, but you don't mind here. She says you swim very well, and that you should keep at it- you might be able to go to the Olympics some day! You're not sure you want to, but she seems pleased by the thought, so you go swimming whenever you can.

"Ok. Your maman said you were a good swimmer, but you know to be careful?" Frank asks. You nod again- of course you know to be careful. Maman is always very clear about things that can be dangerous- like, she never, ever lets you carry your rifle yourself when she takes you to go shooting, and she carries all the bullets too. You've learned to not question it- Maman is really smart, so everything she makes you do has a reason for it, you're sure.

You finish breakfast, but then have to wait to go out to the pool for an hour- Natalya takes the time to show you her room. Other than a big bookshelf on one wall, there's not much in there, though- just some models she says aren't really toys, but they kind of look like them- little robots of some kind. She's got them all on a big shelf over a table full of little containers of paints and brushes, which she's happy to show you. You might like to try to paint some of the little models, but she says she doesn't have any you can have right now, which is fine. That kind of thing happens, you know, and maman says worrying about it isn't worth the time.

1/2
>>
She makes you leave so she can change into her swimsuit- and you need to go put on your trunks anyway. You and Maman had gone to buy a new pair before you left, and packed them- you actually did that with a lot of the clothes you brought, because maman said you'd be leaving a lot of them here when you go home this fall. That made sense to you- she said you'd probably be spending part of the summer up here from now on. You're not sure how you feel about that, but there's no point in arguing, as much as you want to.

You meet her back in the hall, and she hands you a towel, then turns to walk back down the hall and downstairs without saying anything. You like that about her, you think- she already knows you're going to follow her down and out to the pool, so she doesn't bother telling you to.

You're not outside long before you're joined by your other two older sisters and Rachel. She sets herself up on the deck up above the pool- out of the way of any splashing, but close enough to keep an eye on everything, you know. Maman does that sometimes. By the end of the afternoon, when Frank comes out, you're a little sunburnt, but nowhere near as red as your sisters are, you think- they look like lobsters! Still, you find yourself smiling at them as you play- Natalya brought out a couple of squirt guns and a beach ball that you've been switching between.

Maybe this won't be so bad, you think. It's kind of neat to have a family besides just Maman.
>>
And that's going to be it for the week! I'd given it some thought, and I'm convinced that the flight with Wendy deserves a thread of it's own, instead of just extending this one, so that's what we'll do- we'll catch that later, though. I do wanna get back to the main storyline next week and after three weeks, I think everyone else is too, haha!

I'll be around a little to field questions or comments this evening, but I'll be around all week to do so. Quarantines and all that, haha! So till next week gents, stay safe and cheers!

Ok gents! Sorry for the later start, got caught up doing some things- long story short, the folks were cleaning out the attic and found a container with a bunch of old 45 records, and wanted me to look up their values and stuff. some interesting stuff in here, but got a bit carried away, haha!

State's under mandatory stay at home orders now, so no more range time fore me, at least till this is over, haha! Oh well. As an aside, though, my computer is screaming about low storage space on my SSD. It's only really a problem because it means image thumbnails aren't displaying properly when I went to post- which is why this is getting up so late. I may have to restart between posts here

===================================================================================

"This is interesting." Kyou says, holding one of the two witch's service jackets out for you to take. You leaf through it- it's prepared in English, but the translation is fairly iffy at best. "As I suspected, both of them are from noble families, but the Dai-i is a direct descendant of the admiral, as well."

You nod, reading as much. "could that have influenced her being here?"

"Possibly." Kyou says, looking up as Wendy hands her a mug of tea. "Thank you, Wendy. I had expected both of them to have been from highly influential families, but this is a step farther. Her family has had the confidence of mine for many years. I may have met her previously, though I cannot remember when or where."

"So she's suspect?" You ask as Wendy sits across from both of you, hands in her lap. She looks a little surprised when you close the briefing and hand it over to her- you figure her input is just as valuable as any you can put in, if not more so because of her first hand knowledge of how her valkyrie works.

Kyou shakes her head. "Not at all. Politics in the empire are somewhat different from politics in the United States. I am sure they were picked because of their families standing, but they would have still been among the most qualified for the position." She says. "The Sho-sa is somewhat more interesting."

"The air force witch?" You ask. Kyou nods.

"Yes. That sort of cross service assignment is extremely rare. The Navy and Army are notorious for their rivalry, especially for things like witches. Demand is very high, and numbers are low. For her to be here either means she's unique in some way that makes her valuable to the navy but not the army, the army is considering valkyrie as well, or she used her own contacts to be here."

"Which would mean she's trying to get close to you." You say- it's not a question at all.

Kyou hesitates. "It's possible, her family is a very powerful one, and having a daughter in the inner circle of the imperial family would give them a great deal of influence." She says. "But I cannot believe the admiralty would allow mere politics to influence their decision in this matter."

"Wouldn't be the first time, mum." Wendy remarks, kind of quietly.

1/2
>>
Kyou frowns. "Perhaps not, but I have trouble believing they'd do it in this instance. This may affect the defense of the empire for the next thirty years or more. Simply attempting to insert their daughter into the household of the eldest daughter of the next emperor is a small boon for such a risk."

"Are they known for that sort of thing?" You ask.

Kyou shakes her head. "No, they've been a loyal family since the restoration." She responds. "Her presence here is very curious though."

You nod- you know you're a little paranoid on the subject of people attempting to get close for clout. Maman drove that into you, of course- her concern was, as the son of Frank Bishop and herself, you'd be the catch of the century to any up-and-coming witch in the US. Your recent decisions have thrown that all to hell, of course, but that doesn't mean long-ingrained habits die easily.

"It may be desirable to summon them to our quarters, to discuss with them their motivations for being here." Kyou says, after a minute. "Do you agree?"

You frowns- you're not sure, honestly, but it may be a good chance to let Wendy get an impression of them as well, and a chance to talk might not come around again for a while.

"I think we should have them both in here." You say. "I'd like to get a chance to talk to each of them, and we're going to need Wendy's input too."

"M-my input?" Wendy asks.

Kyou nods for you. "Of course. You didn't think we wouldn't ask?"

Wendy blushes a little- why, you're not sure. Embarrassment, maybe. "I didn't think you'd need my opinion."

"Of course we do." Kyou says, looking over at you. You nod in support of the statement. "If there is ever a time we don't require your input, we will notify you." She continues. "For now, though, assume anything you wish to say, we wish to hear."

Wendy nods.

"Also, while Morgan is here, I wish to reiterate that your position as a member of my household means that your social standing is quite high. I understand that you are perhaps unused to this, but one thing I wish you to become accustomed to is that others will bow to you."

Wendy looks uneasy at that, but nods again.

"Excellent." Kyou says, standing up to walk to the small galley in the quarters. Not quite enough to prepare a meal, it's more than enough for a simple snack.

"Do you want me to go fetch the witches?" Wendy asks as Kyou prepares herself something.

Kyou shakes her head. "You are not a mere messenger. Remain here." She tells the older witch.

Wendy blinks- but remains seated.

[x] Get Wendy's opinion on operations so far- you've heard her personal concerns, but you want to hear if she's got any professional complaints.

"Since you're here, what do you think of our flights so far?" You ask.

"Combat?" Wendy asks, blinking, and you nod.

"Oh. Well, yes." She says, frowning a bit. "Well, it's rather different than it was twenty five years ago." She says, her frown turning into a very slight smile. "It's harder to determine what mistakes we may have made, simply because the situation is so different."

"But the basic concepts remain unchanged." Kyou supplies. "You have access to greater information than you did in the past, and a more effective platform, but it is still air combat."

Wendy nods. "Yes, but our missions have been different." She states, then frowns again, thinking. "I'd say, overall, we've been remarkably effective in our assigned missions, and have missed very few opportunities thus far."

"What areas are there for our improvement?" Kyou asks.

Wendy shakes her head. "I'm not really certain, mum. Our coordination is perfect, as far as I'm aware, and it's not as if I've seen any issues from either of you."

"So nothing yet?" Kyou presses, and Wendy shakes her head.

"Nothing yet, mum." She confirms. "I'll certainly keep looking for any room to improve, though I will admit it should be rather difficult to find flaws with you." She blinks after she says it- as if she's not quite sure why she said it that way.

1/2
>>
Kyou smiles thinly. "Consider that your assignment for now, then." She says, and Wendy nods. "You are to review our combat f lights with the most critical eye you can. We must know of any flaw in our performance."

"I shall try." Wendy confirms. "If you want, mum, I can direct Tessa to assist me as well. She's rather critical of flaws, you see."

Kyou nods. "Speaking of which, it may be a good idea to have them attending while we get to know my coven sisters." She says. "I'm told it can be unusual dealing with an AI when you're not used to them."

Wendy nods. "I'll confirm that." She says. "It hasn't taken long to adjust to Tessa, but it was certainly a shock early on. But I was under the impression neither of these witches was going to be flying with the MIU yet, and we were evaluating them for the last Valkyrie unit?"

"We are." You confirm.

"Well, it's difficult to imagine any situation in which our AI are not members of our team." Wendy says. "Certainly, they present themselves as our family. I'm sure their input would be valuable."

Kyou nods. "I agree, but I feel Morgan should make the decision. Muninn is, afterall, our aircraft." She smiles. "And all decisions involving it and it's crew are his to make."

You frown a little at her.

[] Get Muninn and Tessa in here- Wendy's right, they're as much a part of the team as anyone else, and if they want Valkyrie, they're going to have to deal with AI anyway.
[] It might be better to leave them out of this first meeting- AI can be offputting, and you want to get a chance to talk to these two in a more relaxed environment first.
>>
Ok, so I know it was a late start tonight, and a pretty short run. A lot of that is my fault, part of it, this time, isn't! haha. Long story short I've been having storage issues on my SSD and I'd never figured out what the problem was. Turns out, it was a 65 gig rimworld log file. Oops. So I deleted that and now I know what to look for when I have these issues. Really, it would have been plenty manageable, but it meant that thumbnails for images weren't displaying- and I haven't sorted my image folder in a while. We should be starting closer to the target time (1800 EST) tomorrow. Ideally we'll be starting at 1800, but I never know what's gonna come up next around here, haha!

Anyway gents, that's it for the night. I'll be around a little to answer questions or concerns, but otherwise, till tomorrow, cheers!

Sounds like Rimworld has very verbose logging, but instead of breaking it out by date/time or component, it's all just appended into one file. And Ghost was probably playing it a lot.

[x] Get Muninn and Tessa in here- Wendy's right, they're as much a part of the team as anyone else, and if they want Valkyrie, they're going to have to deal with AI anyway.

Kyou smiles at you as you stand up, crossing the space to hit the power switch for the AI tanks, watching as the contained space fills with the aerosol they use to draw their images on. The two intelligences pop into being a second later, detecting their tanks are on. Tessa smiles sweetly at you, while Muninn scowls.

"Good afternoon, Muninn, Tessa." Kyou says. "Could you please summon Dai-i Kurita Hoshiko and Sho-sa Tosa Yuki to the imperial cabins."

Tessa nods, and you hear the announcement go out a second later in Kaga's voice. "If you wish, I can give Kaga herself a link to the cabins, so you don't need to summon us for this sort of thing." Tessa says.

Kyou shakes her head. "That won't be necessary." She responds. "And we wished you both present to meet these witches, they may be working with us in the future. One of them may be the first imperial witch to operate valkyrie."

"I see." Tessa says, looking over at Muninn. "Should we prepare to include another person in the network? It would be getting rather crowed, but not beyond our abilities."

"Is that so?" Kyou asks, getting a nod in return. "Merlin thinks otherwise."

Tessa frowns. "All due respect to mother, but she's overestimating the risk. We were designed, in part, to enable this sort of activity. In theory we can bridge as many people together as desired. It's why the initial program was titled Michael, and that portion of our code is still updated as the Michael engine."

[x] Michael? Samantha's never talked about that before.

"Michael?" You ask. "Samantha's never talked about that before."

"Not too surprising." Tessa says. "The program wasn't hers and was only integrated with her work later. You forget that we call her mother because she made most of the framework we operate on, not because she's responsible for every facet of our code."

"Considering the requirements of the programs, it's hard to believe she wasn't." Kyou points out.

"Mother isn't the only certifiable genius in the world of computers." Tessa responds. "And most of the technology we have for MIUs originated in soviet prewar efforts at defense against extraterrestrial threats. Michael was an outgrowth of the systems first used in Stalin's Shield, one of which was destroyed over Megalith at the end of the war."

"One of?" Kyou asks. "There was only ever the one."

"Allegedly." Muninn says, jumping in. "The one destroyed by Wendy and the first was allegedly the only one built. There's some indications that there were more. Yamantau may have one nearby, if not hidden within the mountain proper, and there's at least six other sites that suggest they could support identical craft."

"None of them are maintained, it must be noted." Tessa points out. "But information is scarce on the purposes of the bases, and their remote location means that it's impossible to do much more than speculate."

"Interesting." Kyou says, looking over at you. "I wonder if perhaps that spy intelligence would know more."

Muninn makes a gagging sound. "Lovelace? oh ew. the less I have to deal with that weirdo the better." He says.

"We could ask, if it's something you'd like to know." Tessa offers. "Though they'd hardly matter for the current situation. Even if they did exist, the USSR is a neutral power and they're almost hopelessly obsolescent regardless."

Kyou shakes her head. "It's idle curiosity. Ask if you have time, but there is no priority on it." She says. "We were discussing your ability to network people via MIU links."

Tessa nods. "It's an outgrowth of the defensive programming of the shields. They were designed to combine the power of several witches for their own defense and offense, to allow them to engage and destroy Martian dreadnoughts on equal terms. Of course, on the Soviet-built vehicles, the commander of the shield had the ability to direct those powers as he wished, with the witches slaved to the vehicle's onboard systems. Michael was a descendant of those defensive programs."

"The witches weren't in control of their own powers?" Kyou asks, looking over at Wendy. "That's a disturbing thought. Whatever happened to the witches aboard the one destroyed over Megalith?"

Wendy shakes her head. "I'm not sure." She says. "We made sure they were ejected safely on Sir Frank's instructions, and after the war, premier Putin made a few appearances with them, but after that they seem to have disappeared."

Something tells me that one witch we captured, the Soviet one...something tells me there's a connection between her and the missing Megalith witches
>>
[x] Disappeared how?

"Disappeared how?" You ask, wonder if Natalya would be the person to ask about this kind of thing. If anyone would know, it would probably be her, you think- she, like maman, seems to have enough contacts in enough places that it's entirely likley she'd be able to get the information quickly.

Wendy shrugs. "I'm not sure." She says. "Just- people stopped talking about them and they went back into the Soviet coven."

Kyou frowns. "That seems odd, considering the stories I've heard about their condition when you first found them."

Wendy nods. "We were told the soviet coven had been told they'd been killed years before." She says, then frowns. "Of course, we were also told that there was another invasion coming."

Kyou looks over at you briefly. "Being able to mislead Frank Bishop is hardly the mark of a master plotter." She says. "I'd be interested in where those witches are, though. I can't imagine they'd return to state service after their experiences."

"Me either." Wendy agrees, shaking her head. "But I've no idea what happened to them. After the war, things moved rather quickly for me, and I didn't think to follow them."

"No matter." Kyou says, looking at the hatch as there's a light knock. "I imagine that's our guests." She says. "Morgan, would you see them in? I want Wendy seated to reinforce that she is our equal, so far as anyone else should be concerned."

You nod, crossing the room to open the hatch and let the two witches in- the both bow to Kyou as soon as they step inside. She smiles- but, you note, she doesn't stand to return the gesture. "Greetings, Sho-sa, Dai-i." She says. "Please, make yourselves comfortable."

The two witches nod as you close the hatch, both looking around quarters as Kyou smiles. They eventually opt to take seats near to Wendy as you sit back down next to Kyou.

"As you may imagine, we are rather new to this process as well." Kyou says, smiling. "And I find that using existing methods is best in areas one is unfamiliar to. The United States Navy prefers to keep these sorts of things highly informal, so we will do the same. You've met my pilot, Lieutenant Morgan Laroux-Bishop, however I believe this will be the first you've met my other teammate, Commander Wendy Maloney, also of the US Navy. She is our partnered Valkyrie operator, and a veteran of the Soviet war."

That gets a surprised reaction out of both of the imperial witches- who look at Wendy. Kyou continues. "Also present are our linked intelligences, Muninn and Tessa." She says, looking back to the tanks, where Muninn nods to them while Tessa curtsies. "Muninn is the onboard Intelligence of our fighter, while Tessa is his counterpart aboard Commander Maloney's Valkyrie unit."

"Pleased to meet you both." Tessa says in flawless Japanese.

"Their assessments will be just as important, going forward, as my own or Lieutenant Laroux-Bishop's." Kyou says. "And as the valkyrie unit requires both an MIU link and an intelligence, we felt it best to introduce you to them now."

Both witches nod, looking over at the tanks. "If I may, I've never seen anything like that." The air force witch says, indicating the tanks. "Is that something we should also expect?" Her tone of voice is more or less neutral, though you have to wonder if she's having second thoughts.

Kyou smiles. "Of a sort. We have the advantage of being commanded by Admiral Samantha Wells, so we often benefit from her design work. The AI tanks are an example of this." She says.

"Samantha Wells?" The other witch asks, and Kyou nods.

"Yes. You may meet her, as she is quartered with us." She responds. "Though I doubt you will do so now, as she working. I expect you were both briefed on how the team works in the air?"

Both witches look a little uneasy, and eventually the air force witch speaks. "Not really." She responds. "We were informed that the units were only open to hand-selected witches at the top of their classes, but we received nothing else."

Kyou frowns. "Is that so?" She says, looking over at you. "Morgan, perhaps you'd prefer to explain?"

Tell them that the Wyvern and the Valkyrie are the new frontier of combined arms in the air. A Valkyrie's job is to support the Wyvern, fill in holes in the superfighter's arsenal that inevitably appear due to not every Witch being Superwoman. True, they're not the leading combat elements anymore, but they're also going to be expected to be elbow deep in the worst, the most dangerous, the most important.

[] Write in! What do you want to tell the witches they'll be doing while flying with you?

"You'll be on the frontier of combined arms in the air." You explain. "A Valkyrie supports a Wyvern, both filling holes in it's arsenal that exist because no witch is perfect. You'll be out on the front edge of a battlespace, and dealing with operations no other element can."

Kyou nods. "You've been made aware of our actions over Korea thus far, I am sure?"

Both witches nod. "Yes, highness." One says, and Kyou laughs.

"Please, while we are aboard ship, use my rank." She says. Both witches nod again.

"We've been told, and I had the honor of watching you in combat over Chuncheon." The air force witch- Yuki- says.

"Is that so?" Kyou asks. "Were you dismounted?"

"My strikers were destroyed when our airfield was attacked." She says, nodding. "I was the sole witch assigned to my base, and only escaped when some of our security elements spent their lives in a rearguard action to allow some of our support staff to withdraw to a nearby army rally point with me."

"And you were with them at Chuncheon?"

The witch nods. "I had recovered enough to fight unmounted, but I was evacuated with the Korean students."

"So you've not flown in action yet?" Kyou asks, and the witch shakes her head.

"I understand that words are a poor substitution for flight." Kyou says, after a second. "But it is somewhat difficult to explain. Part of the reason the system is so effective is the MIU linkage."

"It is rather difficult to explain." Wendy says, and both witches look over at her. "My role is to support them, but I also must be able to act independently on my own initiative if it's required. With the MIU link, I'm aware at all times of what they need me to be doing, without them having to speak. It's quite unnerving at first, but rather simple to adjust to."

"Similar to flying with a single wingmate for years?" Yuki asks. Wendy nods.

"Quite, yes." She says, after a second.

"It should be interesting, then, once one of us is selected for the duty. Though it's also been rumored that you cannot now leave?" The other one asks.

"Nor should I want to." Wendy responds, nodding. "Though, admittedly, I have some history with my fighter crew, and feel more duty to them than others may."

1/2
>>
"Regardless, you should expect your role during this assessment to be similar to Wendy's role in our team." Kyou says. "Part of that also means you are to be prepared to fly at a moment's notice. As a wyvern crew, our role is primarily that of a ready reserve force. We are assigned critical missions that no other aircraft can perform without unacceptable risk, as my pilot has indicated."

Both witches nod.

"If you have any unease about the MIU, I suggest we speak again later." Kyou continues. "It sounds as if your briefing on it was somewhat limited."

"Nonexistent, Sho-sa." The IJN witch supplies. "We were only informed that it was required for the valkyrie, and that it carried with it a much longer service commitment."

Kyou frowns. "Is that so?" She asks.

"Yes, sho-sa." Yuki says. "We've all heard rumors about it in fighters like yours, of course, how it binds the crew together much more closely than even marriage, but there was no indication that would remain true for single pilot craft such as valkyrie."

Hoshiko- the IJN witch, you remember her name, now- nods. "All I was told was that regardless of outcome here, it was highly likely that if we weren't retained by you, we'd be reassigned as instructor trainers for the program when the military started it up."

"I see. They indicated that remaining here was a possibility?" Kyou asks. Both witches nod again.

"Yes, Sho-sa." Hoshiko says. "But nothing more than that."

"I see." Kyou says, leaning back against the sofa. "I think that's enough for now."

Both witches stand quickly, and Wendy stands to let them out. Once they're gone- and Wendy returned to her seat, Kyou looks over at you. "What are your impressions?"

2/3 (oops)
>>
You shrug- you didn't talk to them very long, and hardly got their life story. Yuki comes across as... pointedly disinterested. She's almost certainly hiding something, you think- what that is, you're not sure, yet. But, if she's from a base that got whacked in the opening moves- with the lives of a rearguard that fought the action to get her clear- on her mind, you suspect that her aggression will be beyond even Kyou's- possibly a liability. Chuncheon wasn't a bloodbath like you've heard your father describe Berlin or Tanana, but you left more than a few flaming wrecks in your wake there, you know.

The other witch was quieter- and seemed more bothered by the idea of the MIU link acting the way it does. What that means, you're not sure- maybe she's got a boyfriend somewhere- and if he's not in line for a drake, she'd effectively be killing the relationship, you think. Of course, that's only one possibility, and there's plenty of other reasons why a witch wouldn't be exactly enthusiastic about that sort of thing, even in this instance. Still- you've got her pegged as a solid professional. Noble family or not, she's got to be to even be here, you think.

[] Not really enough to go on, yet.
[] Yuki worries me, but Hoshiko seems like she's going to be professional.
[] Yuki should be a good fit, but I'm not so sure about Hoshiko's mindset.
[] Neither one of them seems like they're going to fit well. I hope I'm wrong, though.
[] It's going to be a hard decision, both of them seem like they'll adapt well to the role.

[x] Yuki worries me, but Hoshiko seems like she's going to be professional.

"Yuki worries me, but Hoshiko seems like she's going to be professional." You say, thinking. "I'm worried about Yuki's motivation, seems like she might be carrying some baggage."

Kyou nods. "That's possible." She allows, "But it could also be seen as being what motivates her to push herself."

"But unchecked aggression jeopardizes missions." You point out. "It's a good trait, but not without moderation, and I feel like if she's here just to kill the other side, she's in the wrong place."

Kyou nods. "Yes, that's what makes us as effective as we are." She says, then turns to Wendy. "What are your opinions?"

"Much the same as master Morgan's, I think." Wendy responds. "Yuki does somewhat worry me, she reminds me in ways of miss Sakamoto, years ago. Though I hardly dare think one short chat is enough to know her well enough to judge."

Kyou nods. "And Hoshiko?"

Wendy frowns a little. "I'm not sure." She says, after a second of thought. "She seems to be here less because of personal drive, and more because of some other reasons. She certainly didn't seem as eager as the other one."

Kyou nods, then smiles at Wendy. "Clearly, even were your position here for debate, you'd have little to be worried about with them." She says. "What of you two?" She asks the AIs.

Tessa makes a great showing of being unimpressed. "Neither of them is particularly inspiring." She responds. "Sho-Sa Tosa has a record indicating she's incredibly aggressive, to the point of being considered bloodthirsty. Her posting at the KDF Gimpo annex was part of an effort to keep her out of trouble and on the front line of any potential conflict."

"Clearly, it didn't work as intended." Kyou remarks. Tessa shakes her head.

"Not at all. There isn't sufficient information to determine what happened, but most of the front line witches were unable to become involved in the initial defense efforts. Broadly, their performance is in line with most of the front line elements in the opening salvos, though."

Kyou nods.

"The Dai-i's record has some question marks, too." Muninn says. "She's part of the Shinaino's air wing, but was withdrawn by higher request just before she sailed. She's been temporarily assigned to ministry command office duties in Tokyo, but was pulled away from that duty to come here."

1/2
>>
Kyou frowns. "That sounds of politics."

Muninn nods. "It does, but here's the thing. She and Sho-sa Tosa are both also noted as having completed training with both the SOG and SBU, and graduating in the top of their classes, and both of them have completed guard special protection service training."

Kyou blinks at that. "They're both guard witches?"

Muninn shakes his head. "No, they completed the training, but withdrew their names from selection." He says.

"That seems unusual." Wendy remarks. "I can't imagine turning down such a position, were it offered."

"It is unusual, but not unheard of." Kyou says. "If they were from common families, it would be unheard of, but witches of noble families do sometimes withdraw their candidacies for various reasons. Still, if they're both triple patch, that does do something to explain their presence."

"Will you be flying with them soon?" Wendy asks.

"That will be up to Morgan, I think." Kyou responds. "I would prefer to have done with this sooner, rather than later, but the decision isn't mine."

"We'll fly with them as circumstances permit, but we're not going to sit you out completely just to get this done." You say, getting a nod from Wendy- and a grin from Kyou.

"So you may shelve your hopes to lounge about the apartments while we do the work." she says, still grinning. "

Wendy smiles lightly. "Drat." She says. "And I'd hoped to work some on my tan."

Kyou laughs. "I'm sure if you paint too good a picture, my poor pilot will be beside himself." She says, getting a blush from the older witch. "And would you not have difficulty tanning?"

Wendy smiles, her blush fading. "That would be the other flaw in my plan." She admits with a nod. "I tend to get rather burnt when I try to tan, and I don't suspect the dispensary here carries aloe in quite the amount I should need, were I to try."

"That's hardly an issue." Kyou says. "Were it necessary, I could have some flown in, though I suspect Morgan may have one of his strange cures that would prove quite effective." She looks at you. "Am I correct?"

"I maybe have something, oui." You say, grinning slightly yourself. "But I have ta be de one ta put it on de area it be healin."

Kyou quirks an eyebrow- and Wendy blushes. "Is that so?" Kyou asks. "So if Wendy were to get burnt attempting to get a tan, you would have to rub this healing substance on her?"

You nod. "Ya be makin it sound lewder den it need to be." You tell her- she smiles.

"Am I?" She asks. "I would consult Wendy, but I'm sure she's quite happy to not take this particular discussion farther."

Wendy nods- though you can't help but notice she hesitates some before doing so.

"Regardless," Kyou says. "You may be asked to demonstrate this healing salve for my satisfaction later."

You shrug. "I may be tellin ya to see de doc."

Kyou smiles. "We both know you would not. Besides, I can tan, unlike our partner." She points out. "So were it required, it would be for Wendy. Though I won't be asking her to burn herself simply to sate my curiosity."

"T-that's a relief." Wendy says- though she sounds almost vaguely disappointed at it.

Kyou smiles. "Of course, I don't rule out any sort of independent testing by you, either." She says, looking at Wendy. "Though I should like to observe, at least. You will inform me if you intend to do any, yes?"

Wendy blinks- and nods mutely as she blushes again.

Kyou smiles. "I think that's been quite enough." She says, standing. "What are our goals for the day? I know Samantha has Muninn's airframe opened up for the modifications."

"H-how will that work for us in a scramble?" Wendy asks. "Tessa isn't grounded, so far as I know."

You shake your head. "Not sure." You admit. "I'm sure with enough time, Merlin could get us flightworthy, but right now we're not."

Kyou nods. "Which means for now, the three of us are effectively grounded."

"For the next day." You confirm. "At least."

Kyou sighs. "And of course, we had the poor fortune to be grounded while aboard ship." She says, standing. "Very well. I will be in our bunk, reading." She announces, opening the light door to your bedroom and closing it most of the way behind her.

You and Wendy sit in silence for a minute. "It is rather unusual you have access to a healing salve like that." Wendy claims. "W-were you telling the truth about it require you to apply it?"

If this leads to Massaging Wendy at some point I will love you forever, Ghost

[x] Not entirely. I used to give it to my teammates as a muscle rub, and they always said it worked for them.

You shake your head. "Not entirely." You say. "I used to give it to my teammates as a muscle rub, and they always said it worked for them."

"O-oh." Wendy responds.

You grin at her. "You sound disappointed."

She laughs lightly. "M-maybe a little." She says, still blushing.

You blink- she smiles again, her blush slowly fading. "It's rather... liberating to not be afraid about losing people's favor again." She says.

"I take it that's what Kyou talked to you about?"

She nods. "She was quite explicit about her stance on the matter." She says, after a second. "Specifically, that I would be not leaving her service." She pauses. "Ever."

You blink. "Ever?" You ask, and she nods.

"It's rather reassuring." She says. "I'd assumed something similar, forgive me for admitting, when I first started flying with spellcaster. And they've been wonderful to me, but after the war, it wasn't like belonging the same anymore. Miss Kyou made sure that I understood I belonged here."

"I see. And that's ok with you?" You ask.

Wendy nods. "Oh, quite. I'd hoped, forgive me, that Tabitha would have retained my services in such a manner after the war, but she was always quite professional." She says. "It's rather nice to go back to what I had during the war."

You shrug. If she's happy- as maman would say- and it's not hurting anyone, then what place is it of yours to complain on her behalf?

And that's gonna be it for the week! Slower pace than I'm aiming for still- was kinda hard to concentrate tonight, for some reason. Hard to read, too- eyes didn't want to focus real well. Not sure what's up, but I'll be racking out here in a minute or three, so eh. I'll worry about it in the morning, if it's still there then.

I'll be around to field questions or comments later on, and of course I'll check the thread through till it falls off the board or we go to our next. So till next week, gents, cheers!

It's funny, you just have no sense of humor.
>>
>>4170286
Its unfunny, you just have no sense of empathy.

Well good thing that the rest of the userbase obviously disagrees with you and thinks it's pretty goddamn hilarious.

I mean seriously, are you even capable of taking a joke? Do you look at comedy TV that isn't Friends and think "That's just not funny because they made a joke out of bad things happening." It's called dark humor, pumpkin. Grow a pair, some thicker skin and try and find a sense of humor. Or don't, I don't really care if you end up being the literal wet blanket of your social circle, if you even have one, but you're in the wrong place to be complaining about dark jokes, princess.

I don't care how much fallacies you cram into one post.
>>
>>4170569
Honestly it was pretty funny.

Looks like I struck a nerve. "Fallacies". You don't even know what that word means do you? Because that ain't it. But regardless, you don't have the right to be free of offense or jokes you don't find funny. And if you don't find something funny? Shut up, cause nobody cares about your opinion.

Hopefully, your own participation comes to a crashing halt when you're in a hospital waiting for a ventilator to free up, and none are available.

And I'll still be laughing, cause it'll still have been a funny practical joke. Also I'd be careful about wishing harm upon others, karma can be kinda a bitch like that.
>>
>>4174326
You need to take a chill pill. Calm yourself.

>karma can be kinda a bitch like that.
Like when you laugh at people dying from corona or having their business ruined ?
>>
>>4175575
Laughing at a practical joke about quarantine on an image board is not laughing at the effects of this virus, and if you think they're the same thing you're an idiot. But you've already proved that, so it's nothing new.

Bottomline, unwedge your panties and stop being such an overly sensitive little shit.
