Long ago, there was a fair and glimmering land, and its guardians were the Unicorn Knights.

The fair land was ruled by the Unicorn Monarch, and her symbol of rulership was called the Noble Scepter. It was an ancient and powerful token, and in the hands of one such as the Unicorn Monarch it could work strange wonders.

Once each decade, the Unicorn Monarch walked the border of her land, accompanied by her Unicorn Knights, and it was on this day that the Unicorn Monarch passed by a remote and ill-kept corner of the border-path.

"These stones have fallen," spoke the Unicorn Monarch. "And grown upturned by weeds."

"Groundskeepers fear this place," replied one of the Unicorn Knights.

"Bandits lurk in the hills just beyond this path," said the other.

"And dey lurk on da path too!" cried a Swineman as he thrust himself from behind a tumbled mound of rock and grasped the Noble Scepter from the Unicorn Monarch's hand. Before the Unicorn Knights could act, another Swineman struck both of them down with a swing of his mighty club.

It was at that moment when another Unicorn Knight approached, and saw at once what had happened. The Unicorn Knight knelt, and the Unicorn Monarch raised a hand and spoke. "Auralie, my most faithful and loyal knight! You must recover the Noble Scepter! May sunlight, moonlight, and starlight guide you on your path!"

As quickly as she was able, the Unicorn Knight tracked the Swinemen through the hills, until at last she came upon a clearing and spied at the far edge an ancient crumbling fortress, so old that a grove of soldiermarks had grown up through the stones. Near a rend in the fortress wall where the Swinemen tarried, a strange red-skinned being floated aloft, held up by a pair of leathery wings, and clutched in her hand was the Noble Scepter.

"Stop!" called the Unicorn Knight as she lept into the clearing. "Return the Noble Scepter at once!"

"What? A Unicorn Knight?" the strange creature hissed, thrusting herself upward with an angry flap of her wings. "You idiots told me you weren't followed!"

The two Swinemen glanced at each other, then at the Unicorn Knight. "We didn't think we was!"

With that the red-skinned creature flew through the shadowy rend in the fortress wall, and as she disappeared she called out, "You idiots! Take care of her, or I'll be back to take care of you!"

"Deh-heh, dis is da end of da road for you, Unicorn Knight!" bellowed one of the Swinemen, and called for his mount.

"Set loose da hogs of war!" the other shouted, as they raced toward the Unicorn Knight.

Hearing this, the Unicorn Knight then demanded, "Who is that red-skinned woman? Why did you give her the Noble Scepter?"

"The dungeon?" asked the Unicorn Knight, for seldom did she venture beyond the fair and glimmering land that was her home.

"Essence of Immortality?" repeated the Unicorn Knight. "How do you come by such a thing?"

"Alas, this is all I possess," the merchant replied. "My alchemist ventured into the dungeon some days ago in search of the deepflower that is said to bloom in the darkest room. Until he returns, I can offer no more."

"And what must I give for these offers?" asked the Unicorn Knight.

"You may call me Kallyat," the swaddled figure replied, sparking a candle that illuminated the cramped room strewn with panel boxes. "And what is your name, Unicorn Knight?"

"Auralie," came the answer. "I quest to recover the Noble Scepter."

"Then Auralie," Kallyat said, and gestured with the candle to where a stout wooden door hung slackly on ancient iron hinges. "You are in luck, for your quarry has left the door ajar. That is a sign of luck."

"Why did you do that?" Kallyat demanded when they were once more alone. "Why did you not end their lives in this room?"

"The taking of a life is not for us to choose," Auralie said, resting on her sword. "If it is to happen, it will happen. I did not need to take their lives, and so I did not."

"And what if they hadn't backed off like they did?" muttered Kallyat.

Then they would still be here," the Unicorn Knight said. "One way or the other."

"No," Auralie replied, for there was little room to hide in the narrow hallway, and only one open doorway near the far end. "There are more doorways beyond," she whispered as she peered beyond.

Beyond was a room the size of the tavern, and set into the north wall was a set of tremendous doors flanked with unlit iron sconces. Before the great doors, a set of corroded armor was carelessly tumbled on the ground in a heap, and the light of the candle caught the glint of something wet drizzled within. Across from Auralie and Kallyat, the doorway in the western wall was unbarred and seemingly identical to the one in which they stood.
>>
"Three doorways," Kallyat asserted, thrusting the candle into the room and illuminating another open doorway in the south wall of the room.

"You are the guide," the Unicorn Knight said. "Where should we go?"

"I have not been here for some time, but I am sure not much has changed," Kallyat replied. "The doors to the north lead to nothing of note. The doorway to the east, across from us, lead to a charnel house. That doorway to the south leads to the wizard-"

"Wizard?" Auralie asked.

"Yes. The wizard dwells in a room beyond that door," Kallyat replied, drawing back. "The stairs are beyond as well."

"Stairs? Up, or down?"

"A wizard may know of flying women and lost scepters," the Unicorn Knight spoke at last. "Take me to the wizard."

She could hear someone calling her voice from beyond the blackness of the stairwell. The cold breeze around her ankles moved higher, enveloping her, and again she heard her name.

Auralie.

The Unicorn Knight turned, supported on legs that she could no longer feel, and began to step toward the stairwell when she again heard someone call her name.

Auralie.

"Oh! Hello," spoke a voice. Across the room, which was ringed with golden pillars, what Auralie had taken for a painted statue resolved itself into the visage of a man, seemingly chiseled to divine perfection, attractive in limb and face, and clothed in little more than a loin-binding.

To his left was a thing that looked like a drawing of a man that a child might make in sand. It was a dwarfish thing with crudely worked features, and arms that dragged along the ground. Worst of all was its head, offset and coupled with a bulging mass of clay-like flesh that threatened to hint at a truncated conjoinment. At first Auralie could not believe that such a thing was more than a heap of refuse, when suddenly it croaked in a voice like a man, "Who you?"

Hearing this, the comely man did not even pause, and it was clear that he was unimpressed with both her title and her armament. "Well, Auralie, I do not know what any of those things are," he replied, "But you must be a friend of the Master's, or I would have to slay you."

The Unicorn Knight dwelled on his words for a moment, and then spoke. "I was hoping that your master could help me. I seek a winged woman with red skin. She escaped into this place."

"You speak of Gwyn," the man said without pause.

"Gwyn?" replied the Unicorn Knight.

At this a flicker of unease crossed the man's smooth and well-chisled face. "The Master's apprentice, of course."

"Oh, yes. Of course," Auralie quickly agreed, then ventured to ask, "Do you- do you know where she is?"

"No, but the Master has told me that her room is at the far end of this hallway," he replied pointing in the direction of the black stairwell that the Nekja Kallyat had led her past.

"You seem unchanged by the wizard," Kallyat whispered when they had walked a distance back down the hallway. "What did you learn?"

At this, a look of confusion spread over Auralie's face. "Did you not hear us speak?" she asked. "The room was not overly large."

Kallyat shook her veils and held the candle to catch Auralie's eyes in its glow. "I heard nothing but you speaking to someone as you stepped from the doorway. What of the wizard?"

"The wizard is not there," replied the Unicorn Knight. "There was a man, or something that looked like a man. He thought me a friend of the wizard, else would he have attacked me."

"Cthubuphubaphlubaphlub," gurgled the fanged and tendriled mass that quavered within its slime-drenched robes.

YOU ARE CONSCIOUS.

The voice was not a voice, but the strong memory that she had just been told it, yet she felt as though something had taken a hatchet to split open her skull and now clawed through her brains like a thrifty matron might dig through a barrel of eels at market, and it gurgled once more.

"Iathubuphulubuphulubuh."

NO MATTER, the voice that was not a voice continued. THE PROCESS WILL WORK EITHER WAY.

"The Noble Scepter!" Auralie cried again, for this time she was focused in her attention and her anger. "Give it to me at once!"

"Rlyehblehphepluhbubbuphallophlub."

"The wizard?" Auralie asked, for she had seen the works of the wizard and knew that he would be a powerful foe if raised. Secretly, she gripped a small knife that the Brain Peeler's fishslaves had not discovered, hoping to keep the creature too busy gloating to realize her intent.

INDEED. HE CAME HERE SEEKING TO ALLY WITH ME IN ORDER TO COMBAT THE THREAT ABOVE, BUT HIS PLAN WAS FLAWED, BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MY PLAN TO USE THE FISHLASH TO BUILD AN ARMY OF FISHSLAVES AND STORM THE THREAT ABOVE.

"My name is Kallyat. I am... a friend to Hobby," the Nekja said trepedaciously, for she had a keen fear of wizards and their works. "I come to you seeking aid. Our companion outside has been gravely wounded, and-"

"I do not see how any of that concerns our Master," the Perfect Man interrupted.

"Hobby broke!" wailed the creature again.

"Yes, I noticed," replied the Perfect Man, and looked down at Hobby scornfully. "Perhaps now you will see that I was right and that you should have stayed here, you stupid thing! The outside breaks everything! First it broke the Master's favorite container, and now it has broken you! When the Master returns-"

Kallyat's temper began to fray. "Your master has been transformed into a fishslave of the Brain Peeler which dwells below," Kallyat spat. "He will not return."

"Nonsense," the Perfect Man replied. "Our Master is more than equal to a Brain Peeler, whatever that is."

"And if he does not return?" Kallyat asked. "How may Hobby be mended?"

Kallyat saw that the Perfect Man was unwilling to help them, and was only interested in serving himself and his absent master. "Hobby," she asked quietly, as her eyelids half-closed. "Is there anything here that may help Auralie?"

"Goblet!" croaked Hobby.
>>
"Goblet?" Kallyat asked.

At once the creature came to life, and wriggled wildly. "Goblet!" he croaked again.

"Oh, no!" interjected the Perfect Man as he stepped before the pair. "Do not even speak of such things to her!"

"What goblet, Hobby?" Kallyat asked, ignoring the Perfect Man.

"The Goblet of Falsehood transforms anything poured inside into its opposite! To heal grave wounds would require the strongest poison! Where are you going to get poison, you stupid thing?"

Hobby was not slowed by the sting, and answered at once. "Aril! he croaked. "Ladies!"

OK, to start off the post-game chatter, I would like to formally announce that this thread marks the ten-year anniversary of the first Lego Quest!

Thank you very much to everyone who's ever joined in over the past decade!
>>
And with that, we can start off answering questions, pointing out Easter eggs, and generally rounding out the thread before it falls off the board. Starting with this anon:

>>4126143
>Are those your legos m8 just curious?
They sure are! I have a nice collection, and running this game is a big part of why it's the size it is today.

>>4126233
>Nice macro shot, what lens are you using for this? I've been thinking about getting a macro lens for my DSLR
I use a point-and-shoot Canon PowerShot Elph 360HS. It's cheap, it's tiny, and it lets me get right up next to the minifigs without crowding out the rest of the objects on the set.

>>4127668
>Also, good to have you back, LQ!
Thanks anon, I haven't had as much free time as I'd like so it's nice to be back

>>4127744
>god it's been ages since I saw a lego quest, think it was one of the first i saw some ten years ago. Good on you OP, this looks really fun.
Welcome back anon!

>>4128769
>thank you for running! I hope you'll tell us a bit about how this is all organized and set up when the quest is done
I'll start with pic related. I have a lot of mocs built at the moment, so I don't have an immense amount of free bricks. Because of that, I built sections of walls that I use to build the locales for this game one room at a time, and marked the sections along the tops. When I place them, I can make sure that the dungeon background looks sufficiently random, but also ensures that the same sections are used when rebuilding rooms. The candle glow is being provided by the LED light seen here >>4152104
>>
LEGO quests are always fun, thanks again for running it!
>>
I've been slowly putting together Auralie's world in my imagination for about the last two years. Both Auralie and the Unicorn Monarch were finalized by the summer of 2018 (although Auralie wasn't named until just before I started this episode). Since then, I had been making more and more characters, not with any intention of running a quest, but mostly just because I was having fun with it.

After I had made 20+ characters and started developing an intertwined backstory for all of them, I realized that I was never going to be satisfied until I dropped them into a quest thread, so here we are.
>>
>>4152148

This quest in particular was largely inspired by Funtron, whose excellent Funville Fungeon Crawl games were a big push for me to try running a dungeon crawl of my own.

As I said, there's lots more to come, so please stick around for an all-new episode of Lego Quest coming soon!

If you liked this episode, almost all of the past ten years of Lego Quest are archived along with all the images on suptg:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=lego%20quest

The official Lego Quest wiki will soon have pages for Auralie and everybody else who's appeared in this episode:
https://legoquest.fandom.com/wiki/Lego_Quest_Wiki

And if you follow me on Twitter, you will get a tweet whenever a new episode goes live:
@EndmanOfFuturon

Thanks for playing, everybody! I'll be around until the thread dies to answer questions, post pics, etc.

Starting off the Easter Eggs, Auralie (and by extension all the Unicorn Knights) are dressed in the livery of the Unicorn Knight CMF. Her pixane is a Friends minidoll cape. Sidenote: it's the same color and texture as Ghost Vitruvius from The Lego Movie.

>>4126102
Unicorn Monarch's hat is from the Unicorn Girl CMF. Collar is an inverted minidoll skirt.

>>4126112
Swinemen are CMF Pig Costume Guys

>>4126130
Gwyn's head is Red She-Hulk, wings, arms, and legs are from the CMF Dragon Costume Guy. Torso is Classic Castle.

>>4126950
Ahn is of course a well-known country to long-time Legonauts.

>>4127052
As is Cabeza.

>>4127824
Kallyat the Nejka is made with pieces of the CMF Tiger Lady. Her torso is the CMF Cat Costume Lady; I removed the cat fur tuft printing from the chest, leaving only the waist printing on the sides. You can see where I rubbed it in a couple of shots that catch the direct light from the red LED at just the right angle.

>>4138581
The Cherubs are made with a new bat piece from a Lego Movie 2 set. They normally use a vampire minidoll head, but the infant minifig head fits the same size connection, and the moment I first saw the bat piece I knew I had to make these cute little cherubs.

>>4140705
The wizard is made with a CMF Ninjago Movie Shark Army head, but the hat, torso, and dress slope are a Lego Store Build-A-Minifig exclusive.

>>4151819
When anon rolled to get Hobby's advice, I thought about just throwing a healing potion out, but then I remembered that I had preassigned all of the magic items for a reason. Pretty proud of Hobby for coming up with a solution based solely on his limited knowledge of events.

>>4151979
Speaking of the Goblet of Falsehood, it earns its name by being a Chinese clone brand piece, not genuine Lego.

Here's my camera for the anon who was interested.
>>
Here's the wizard fig I was talking about. The hat and torso are a recolor of the CMF Good Wizard. I imagine this is what he must have looked like before his transformation.
