Last time, the Kingdom of Comfiness was founded and joy spread through the land... until an unexpected quarrel between Ajna and Ruby happened! You don’t know why you say it’s a quarrel if they didn’t know each other before that – but you like to think they would be friendly to each other in other circumstances.

Either way, you need to deal with the aftermath of said confrontation. Ruby left in tears back into your apartment, and Ajna remains here in your arms outside of her own apartment breathing heavily like an underfed kitty.

“You okay?” Double J asks Ajna after going unnoticed this whole exchange.
“…” Ajna appears afflicted with how things unfolded. She escapes your grasp with ease and slowly walks back to her apartment, looking all tired… She disappears into the darkness.

With both girls gone, Double J feels the necessity to do something about this.

“Any ideas?” Double J wants to know what to do. You know those girls better, so it’s only natural he’ll ask you what the plan is.

What do you do?

>“I don’t know.” You tried your best, but you don’t have all the answers.
>“Check on Ajna, make sure she’s fine. I’ll look out for Ruby.”
>“Let’s make sure Ajna is fine first.”

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“Check on Ajna, make sure she’s fine – give her some time to cool down. I’ll look out for Ruby.” You make a decision on how to go from this point on.
“Right, I’ll do what I can.” Double J doesn’t have any gripes with your idea. But before he leaves, he has one last question. “Is he really gone…?”

“Yes.” You don’t think you need to withhold this information.
“RIP.” Double looks a little disturbed knowing this fact but you couldn’t tell by the way he talks. “Good luck with the other girl.”
“Same.” You walk back to your apartment as Jeff goes back to Ajna’s. Hopefully both of you can manage and everything will turn out fine in the end…

Back inside your apartment, everything looks almost exactly like you left it except for a couple of exceptions: There is a paper bag with the groceries Ruby brought, and Osgood’s picture is missing from the wall.

You hear faint weeping noises coming from Ruby’s room, you don’t need to be a detective to know exactly what is happening. For no good reason, as always, you barge inside her room without knocking on the door – what’s up with you and not respecting privacy lately?

Once Ruby notices you she wipes the tears away and hides Osgood’s portrait under the mattress, pretending nothing is wrong. She sits on her knees and acknowledges you.

“J-Johnny…” Ruby’s face is of pure anguish for a second.
“Are you okay? Of course you’re not but I’m going to ask anyway.” Good job making things awkward from the get go.
“Y-Yes! I took it surprisingly well, hehe! So you can relax all you want, Johnny!” Ruby smiles. “Oh yes, I almost forgot! It’s a little past lunchtime, you must be really hungry.” Ruby stands up and starts fixing her hair.

How do you respond?

>“…And you say you don’t like liars.” Call her out!
>“Yeah, I’m really hungry!” Pretend everything is fine!

“Come on, Ruby. I think I know you well enough to know that you’re not fine right now.” Remember the questionnaires! She didn’t answer them for nothing!
“I don’t know who I am trying to kid, I’m a terrible liar. I’m sorry, Johnny – I cannot uphold my own values, I’m just…” Ruby starts crying again, she’s trying to hide her tears again. “I-I don’t want you to see me like this again… I’m already too big of a burden… And...”

“Ruby, this is fine, remember our promise.” You’re supposed to look out for each other! “I expect you to help me out too.”
“…Could you hug me then?” Ruby doesn’t even wait for a response and just hugs you! Unlike the other time at the Clinic, Ruby just wants something to cling on instead of letting her anguish out – you feel like Ruby is having a completely different type of ‘meltdown’.

After a couple of what felt like long minutes, Ruby regains her composure. You’re sitting next to each other on the bed, Ruby now drops her back on the bed and is staring at the ceiling.

“There’s some gum there.” Ruby notices.
“Eugh...” You won’t bother looking up. You wonder if one of the girls did that. “Feeling better?”

“No.” While you appreciate her honesty, that wasn’t the answer you wanted to hear. “I need to come to terms with all of this if I want to feel better.”
“Ruby, it’s been like a week, I don’t think anyone expects you to move on from his death this early.”

“That’s not it…” Ruby shakes her head and sits back up. “You were his dear friend, but how much did you really know about Osgood?”
“I like to think I knew him pretty well.” His ups and downs! High ups! And deep downs!

“Then you must think I’m quite stupid to still be so attached to him, right?” Ruby is beating herself up.
“I don’t.” Love is weird, Nina would agree…

“You should. I fully admit I’m quite stupid, please don’t think less of me because I believe in the people I love.” Ruby gives you a wry smile. “What that Ajna girl told me… It’s not something I can just ignore anymore because it’s the honest truth. I hold honesty in the highest regard but I’ve never been honest with myself. My beautiful prince of comebacks is nothing but…” Ruby shakes her head. “I believe it’s unnecessary for me to say it.”
“Huh, I think it’s more complicated than that.”

“You’re just like me back then.” A hopeful look appears in Ruby’s face, but it quickly turns sour. “Until I went to his funeral.”
“He had a funeral? I thought he was part of the massive city-wide ones.”

“Johnny, you still need to do a little ceremony with close relatives and friends. It was during the time before my arrival here.” Ruby clarifies. You had no idea! “It’s not like anyone but a close number of people who knew him were invited. I wasn’t.”
“That makes two of us.”

“We have a lot in common.” Ruby tries to cheer you up, but you are not the one who’s having trouble here. “They didn’t even know or care he had a girlfriend, but they let me say good-bye. To them I was another one from the pile, another one of those ‘untrustworthy women’ he liked hanging out with. Those untrustworthy women appeared in dozens just to spit in his casket, call out his family and destroy the little peace there was in the building. I’ve never seen such a big group of people being so happy for someone’s death.”
“You’re kidding, right?”

“Makes you wonder how much he downplayed his misadventures to me and you.”
“I…”
“It doesn’t stop there. I talked to these women, and some, upon knowing my relationship with him, called me terrible names. Others tried to reason with me about how awful he really was and told me their stories, I think you still hold Osgood in high regard so I won’t bother with the details. But I feel for them… if it was anyone but Osgood, I…” Ruby closes her eyes for a couple of seconds, once she opens them again she goes back for Osgood’s portrait. “Maybe I need to come with terms that he isn’t the exception to anything, a vile man I shouldn’t hold in any regard.”

Ruby is quite conflicted with her view of who Osgood really was. You don’t have all the details but you know for sure he was a sleazy piece of shit, but a piece of shit who risked his life for you and one you considered your friend. Is it so simple that you must love or hate a guy for who he was? Who was the true Osgood, the one who was trying to change or the one who made all those people suffer? At this point, is there even a point to thinking this stuff through? He’s dead and gone forever!

How do you respond?

>“People are just shades of grey, Ruby. It’s not that simple.”
>“You don’t have to believe everything they tell you, just remember he did really love you.”

“People are just shades of grey, Ruby. It’s not that simple.” You will tell her what conclusion you got from all of this. “He was both. Trying to ignore all the bad is unhealthy but that doesn’t mean you can’t look back and appreciate some of the good too. The first step of moving on is acceptance.”
“Yes, I believe so.” Despite her answer, Ruby is not fully convinced. “But I need to draw the line somewhere. I loved my prince of comeback, but I cannot celebrated the memory of a person who hurt so many innocent people. Could… Could you hide his picture away from me?” Ruby hands you Osgood’s portrait. You received it with all the conflicted emotions bugging your mind.

“Are you going to pretend he never existed…?” This is the opposite of moving on!
“He will stay right here.” Ruby points to her heart. “You know why I wanted so badly to keep his legacy alive?”

“Because you loved him?”
“Yes!” Ruby giggles for some reason. “But I wanted so badly to redeem him from all his misdeeds! That all the joy we would bring to the world from this point onwards was in a way inspired by him. I just… I just wish that loving him didn’t feel so wrong.”

“I know if his life didn’t stop in that moment, there isn’t any shadow of a doubt that Osgood was a good guy trying his best.” Maybe there is no way he could’ve redeem himself of all the bad things he did, but he would’ve shown the world that he changed… That’s your optimism speaking anyway. “I’ll take this away then.”
“I’m so glad we met each other, Johnny.” Ruby fixes up your hair as she smiles. “I need to cook now!”

Ruby walks away without looking back, from what you can tell she still feels conflicted whether her resolution is the correct one or not for herself – but only time will tell if one day she wants to see this picture again or not. Feelings suck sometimes.

>>
>>4065236
you are bringing a portrait of the person ajna hates right after she was berserking. She is going to try and punch that portrait or destroy it. Poking the wound right after that happens is a terrible idea in general.
>>
>>4065238
We can stop her from destroying it if she does actually flip out like that. The damage is already done, the sooner she faces this, the better. Maybe it'd be too much for her if she was the same sad sack we first met but the posts with her from the last thread made it clear that she's already started improving herself a lot since then
>>

>Pay a visit to Ajna with Osgood’s portrait. Let’s see how she really feels.
>>
>>4065245
Shock exposure right after a sudden bought of rage is not known to help people. It tends to make it much worse. We don't even know if she is calmed down. We don't know how or if she will react. At best maybe she will be aggitated and at worst she might take it as a act of cruelty or spite. Just because she is not the sad sack she use to be does not mean she is in a stable or good place to handle that. This will back fire.
>>
>>4065171
>Pay a visit to Ajna, she should have calmed down.
We should get Ajna into martial arts. I think it would give her an outlet for her emotions, teach her how to defend herself, and at the very least get her back in shape.
>>
>>4065265
It's not even shock exposure, she has to deal with this. I didn't want the situation to unfold like this in the first place but now that it's happening she's gotta deal with this. If not, when? Tomorrow? The day after? A week? She's dealt with this long enough and that's not going to change by doing nothing. Not at this point
>>
>>4065272
Tomorrow would work, or when she is able to properly brace herself. That time isn't now. People need time to calm and breathe. To think. You rush tending to a wound, you just make it worse. Mental or physical. Right now the emotions going through her head are a mess. Meditation, talking about, and dealing with it with a calmer mind would make for a better foundation than simply trying to force it. She is not like the other hobos who had flame shenanigans. Her issues are normal trauma with some pretty strong trust issues. They are slow, and they take a very long time to heal right. Thats how life is. Takes moments to destroy hard work, and a long time to rebuild it.
>>
>>4065188
change mine to
>Pay a visit to Ajna with Osgood’s portrait. Let’s see how she really feels.
>>
>>4065292
She won't properly be prepared tomorrow or the next, or the day after that. She hasn't just been ignorant to this problem the whole time, this is inherently a a strong cause of trauma for her, she's been dealing with this day in and day out for a long time. Now that we've chosen to give her a chance to vent and some space to calm down she's as ready as she'll ever be. Nothing's changed circumstance wise for her after this whole thing to ruminate on other than the fact that he won't pay, ever. If she ignores it now the cycle will go back and be even harder to break, that's how depression gets you. I'm not even saying showing her the picture will cure everything right away, hell, I'm not even saying her initial reaction will be pretty but it'll sure as hell be a start that she can't ignore
>>
>>4065314
You are right that she has broken the cycle. She did that by walking to Johnny's door. That was a good sign. She managed to yell about Osgood, another good sign. But now would be the time to talk about that stuff first and work out the frustration that occured. She is gaining strength, she is getting to show her emotions, but that can be dangerous if she isn't use to it. She lashed out at Ruby the moment she was done screaming. That was just from hearing Osgood talked about in a good light. If that sorespot is poked after we chose to talk to Ruby first, and not her, she can easily see us as picking a side and then shut herself off. She is not depressed right now, she was manic. She is going to act irrationally and with her mindset, that can make it worse.
Am I saying ignore her or just let her be? No. I am saying she needs to calm down. Talk about it. Rationalize and understand. That cannot be done with the thing she hates and fear staring her down. In time, yes. But not now.
>>
>>4065344
We can talk to her about what's been eating at her and calm her down but to break through fully and make sure she just doesn't revert back we need to be direct. We decided to take off the kiddie gloves as as soon as we decided to let her vent freely. If we really wanted to calm her down, we should've done it beforehand, backpedaling at the first sign of troubles won't get us anywhere. We'll never address the real issues that way

>She lashed out at Ruby the moment she was done screaming. That was just from hearing Osgood talked about in a good light
I really think you should go back and reread cause that very clearly wasn't the problem

>If that sorespot is poked after we chose to talk to Ruby first, and not her, she can easily see us as picking a side and then shut herself off. She is not depressed right now, she was manic. She is going to act irrationally and with her mindset, that can make it worse
Yeah, no. I'm sorry but I think you severely underestimate Ajna. Picking sides? That's ridiculous, she just sent a friend of ours into a crying fit by going up to her and saying the man she loved was better off dead cause she was mad and seemed to instantly regret how the situation went down and go back inside. Of course we would try to go and see her while we give Ajna time to cool off, we even sent JJ check on her. Once again, maybe if this was the Ajna we first met but after everything we've been through with her? After how much she's improved herself? Yeah, I don't buy it

You believe it’s finally time to address Ajna’s issues with Osgood. You let her frustration go wild before, you won’t going to stop now that she clearly has let off some steam. So this is the perfect opportunity to bring Osgood’s picture into the fray. Now your only big concern is the fact that she might need even more time to calm down and you’re rushing things, but you can adapt as you go, right?

Before leaving your apartment you left your robe on the sofa, once back you’ll reclaim your throne. As for now you need to be a little more serious. Also you informed Ruby that you’re going to check on Ajna and if she was hungry, to not wait for you. Ruby didn’t argue with you, but asked you to please tell Ajna that she’s sorry for what she did. You’re unsure how to feel about this point in particular.

You almost forgot Ajna lives right next door! You gently knock on the door… Double J is the one who opens, he’s always so emotionless you have no idea if things are going right or wrong. Without saying anything he lets you in.

“Where’s Ajna?” You’re keeping the portrait in a little bag.
“Her room.” Double J points at your next destination.

“How did things go when I was out?” You need a recap to know how to go forward.
“She calmed down but wanted to be left alone. I take it she didn’t want me in there.” The always deflated Jeff explains.

“How did she seem to you?” You need a little bit more information.
“Frustrated.” That’s one way to put it, Jeff.

“Anything else you want to tell me?”
“Sorry.” Double J slowly nods.

“For what you did or for what is about to happen to me?”
Double J just shrugs. “I’ll be here if you need me.”

You give Double J some thumbs up and then proceed with the plan. The door was unlocked, so you slowly opened the door and found Ajna sitting next to a wall, her face resting on it – with a ghastly look on her face.

“Hey, how are you doing now?” You ask as you want to hear it from the source despite already coming up with some conclusions.
“…h-he w-was right.” Ajna is stuttering and twitching again. Is she talking about Double J or her inner demons?

“What do you mean?”
“He t-told me i-it w-wasn’t go-going to feel good…” Ajna looks down. She’s talking about lashing out just now, right?

How do you respond?

>“Is ‘He’ this guy?” Show her Osgood’s portrait!

What the actual fuck is this plan? This is the worst way to deal with trauma if the end goal is a sound human being. Venting and having an outburst is fine but bringing the focus of someone's crippling anxiety into someone's personal space - a space that they don't even internalize as "safe" - would shatter any goodwill and confidence we're trying to build. Do you want her to have another meltdown?

Is we want her to become a sound human being, she's gonna have to face her traumas
>>
>>4065581
Yeah, in a setting that we actually treat with consideration. Why the fuck would you think bringing a source of trauma directly into their living space is a good idea? You're aware of why therapists create a space where people can deal with their problems as opposed to making house calls, right? If you want someone to overcome their shit, you don't corner them about it unless you have a rock fucking solid foundation of support, and she doesn't trust us yet.
>>

>“Is ‘He’ this guy?” Show her Osgood’s portrait!
>>

Face deez nuts knucklehead.
>>
>>4065665
This is where you draw the line, of all things not talking about her problems in her house? You want us to take her somewhere else to establish a safe space first? Also she trusts us more than you think
>>
>>4065895
And once more, you are taking the entire thing as us 'not talking' about it. We are talking about it, we aren't being reckless and over estimating ourselves. Think very carefully. You just came face to face with your trauma. You blew up. You got mad. You are trying to calm down. Then the person who you trust Brings the Trauma right in front of you, in a place where you cannot escape that is suppose to be your home. It doesn't matter if its a spider, a snake, a knife, your mother, father or a piece of bloody toast. Its a breech of trust. Its the sort of thing that ruins trust. I don't care how much she trusts us, but there are ALWAYS lines you do not cross with people.
Remember when Johnny tried to trust Neko and almost died because we didn't see the blaring warning sign? How it affected his sister so she didn't trust him and she is STILL not fully recovered there even when she was one of Johnny's staunchest allies?
Or how about rushing over to the lady who's been able to remove flames with a touch? You want to rush this, assuming that our trust is strong enough, but Trust is stupidly easy to shatter by just saying or hearing the wrong thing. Ruby's trust in Osgood took a massive blow just because of Ajna. You now want to bring Ruby's trusted item into something dangerous and trust that nothing would go wrong in a situation where everything has and trust that Ajna is more stable than we think when she has shown otherwise.

The other 2 options don't revolve around her trouble with Osgood, it's not even about overconfidence it's something she's gotta face and she won't be more prepared tomorrow or the next day, she's been dealing with this everyday for before she met us. Unless the problem is brought to her attention it's not gonna magically change. And the snake analogy would work if she wasn't already dealing with the her trauma everyday. She needs a push, when have we ever made progress with her from inactivity? Even this whole situation was caused by not trying to calm her down first. Bringing a piece of trauma to a place she can't escape from? It's already been there whether we like it or not and that's the problem. And this is nothing like the Neko situation, they're not even comparable. It's not an issue if trust. I highly recommend you read the past threads cause we didn't rush at Giorsal, that wasn't the problem and the same applies here, nobody is telling her to get over her trauma in a day but she should really start facing things sooner rather than later, or else she'll jist get worse. Also it wasn't the Ajna thing that broke Ruby's trust, it was everything. She went to the guys funeral and saw dozens of people spit on his grave and even heard some stories, she still wanted to believe him by lying to herself but seeing Ajna makes that impossible, read the thread. And I'm not saying Ajna is more stable than she is, I knew this was gonna happen if we let her vent, but at the same time despite seeing Osgood's picture in our house unexpectedly, it was the easiest time we've had trying to calm her down. She's improved herself, not completely all up there mind you, but definitely enough to the point where she'd listen to us. Stop thinking that she's the same emotional mess that we first met

“What didn’t feel good? Lashing out? Now that I mention it, my friend Ruby told me that she’s sorry for what she did.” You’ll open up with Ruby’s apology and try to make her think about something other than that ‘demon’.
Ajna looks up to you. “I-I didn’t want to s-scream at her… Tell her I’m so-sorry…” It’s like she’s ignoring the reasoning behind Ruby’s apology. She looks back down again, all back to ‘normal’.

Uhm, perhaps you should’ve opened with something more into the matter at hand. You do know a way to steer the conversation but you’re treading lightly, waiting for an opening of sorts.

“…Jo-Johnny. What k-kind of girl is s-she?” Ajna shows some initiative and wants to know more about Ruby.
“She’s a very respectful and kind albeit naïve girl – she likes honesty over all and... I think I’ll stop describing her right here because I’m already doing her a disservice, I’m just saying the first things that come to mind. Keep in mind I met her recently too.” You’re mumbling your words. It’s never easy to describe someone you know...

“…” Ajna stares at you in disbelief, to her, there are glaring contradictions with what you’re saying and the reality she perceives.
“I know what you’re thinking, b-but…” You aren’t sure if you can continue this conversation without mentioning him…

“Do you t-think s-she lied to me…?” Ajna sits properly, that’s a good sign.
“I would bet my life she didn’t. But please don’t take me up on that offer.” You don’t want everyone to hate you again.

“I… w-wouldn’t hurt you…” Ajna closes her eyes, you aren’t sure if you appreciate the hesitation though. “B-but… he’s t-telling me… that I’m stupid… to be-believe you aren’t j-just like him… t-tell me please, are you l-like him?” Ajna is starting to breathe a little heavier. She’s willing to talk about him? Or do you have to be vague?

For one thing, you are completely sure you’re not even one hint as sleazy as Osgood – it’s not like you’re even close to the level of handsomeness for you to attract any women! But you don’t think that’s the actual point Ajna is raising.

How do you respond?

>“To be honest, I never knew how bad he really was until like 20 minutes ago. Don’t get me wrong, I knew he wasn’t great, but when I met him he was really trying to change, so I knew him at his best – so I’m struggling with what to think about all of this.” Throw him under the bus.
>“I was his friend and I can attest he was trying everything in his power to change. I’m not the type that hangs out with complete assholes.” Trent doesn’t count.

“I was his friend and I can attest he was trying everything in his power to change. I’m not the type that hangs out with complete assholes.” That’s what you believe as you tighten your grasp on your bag. “I know he hurt people though. I’m still finding out how many broken women he left behind, and it isn’t pretty… “
“H-He’s worse than you i-imagine…” Ajna won’t let it go. There is fear in her voice.

“Also he told all of us his backstory, by ‘us’ I mean our group of friends – and we all decided to punish him and beat the ever-living shit out of him, if that makes you feel better.”

Ajna looks pleased with that part of your answer... Then she closes her eyes and spends a couple of seconds thinking, no words muttered. She opens them back up and doesn’t look that content.

“…T-That’s not w-what I really wanted.” Ajna had to fight her emotions to come up with that conclusion.
“It’s true that he felt really guilty for what he did to you.” You wanted to stress that point. He truly wanted to repent.

Ajna doesn’t seem to care about that in the slightest and makes it clear: “I d-don’t care…” Ajna won’t ever forgive Osgood for what he did, huh? Ajna walks towards her bed and plummets on it. She’s shutting off... “I b-b-believe in you…” That came out of nowhere.
“Thank you.” You’ll keep her trust!
“You’ll p-prove him w-wrong… I know it.” Ajna goes back to her ‘crazy’ talk as she fixes her hair.

There is a part of this topic you’re not confronting here properly and the solution is in this little bag you’re holding. You and Ajna are doing everything in your power not to address Osgood by name. Would doing so trigger Ajna somehow and make her shut down for good? Or is it going to open a window for her to finally come to terms with her trauma? It’s not that simple, but it will be the real first step of her rehabilitation, right? It’s all conjecture on your end…

What do you do?

>Doesn’t hate you, knows Osgood is a future topic of discussion, and she’s in a good state of mind. Don’t turn this into a failure and leave her be!
>“Why can’t you address Osgood by name? Are you afraid of him?” It’s time to put your hands in the fire!

“Why can’t you address Osgood by name? Are you afraid of him?” Time to go for the jugular! The real point of this whole debacle!
“Ngh…” Ajna’s face goes completely blank upon hearing Osgood’s name. Now she starts breathing heavily and sweating! Not again!

“Ajna, please get it together!” You put yourself in front of her and grab her arms, trying to make her stare directly at you. Can Ajna only resist when she’s angry?
“I-I’m sorry…!” Ajna snaps out of it. “I’m s-sorry…” She’s crying a little bit, not even a quarter as bad as before though. “H-He was bringing back the de-demons…”

“What are you talking about?”
“T-Those eyes…” Ajna holds her head, she hasn’t fully snapped out of it yet. “H-He brings t-them back… No, t-they never left… I can’t e-escape… I already gave them my b-body… they don’t forget, they really don’t forget… Now there are more and they want to take me away!” Ajna is having another panic attack. “J-Johnny… I d-don’t want to feel t-this way…! H-Help me…” A struggling Ajna finds sanity for a second. “W-Why is it always you?! I told you to leave me alone! ALONE!”

She’s going mental again. Good thing you are holding her because you don’t want to imagine what she would be doing otherwise, but just holding her is not going to make her stop! How are you going to make her snap out of it?!

Fuck, you’re still not prepared to deal with something like this…

“Then be blunt. Show her the light is nothing but a lie.” For the first time ever, Philonune gives advice on this matter! That sounds good and dandy, but what does it mean?!

What do you do?!

>Show her Osgood’s pic! Now it’s the time for her to confront her real demon!

Philonune is right! You need to show Ajna the truth! There are no demons, Ghostgood or anything like that! And you have the exact piece of evidence to show it! You pull out the little bag and show her Osgood’s picture!

“N-NO……! AaAAAaaAAAAAaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaah!” Ajna shrieks in agonizing pain as she covers her eyes in pure fright! This ain't working! You repeat, this ain’t working!

You turn to your always smiling partner for some answers…

“Hey, I thought it would work!” Philonune is an idiot! “Something similar happened to me so I just…! Ehem, this is what she needs, partner. This isn’t all you can do! Show her!”

Philoune is right. You have to show her the light, it’s time to reveal that it’s only Osgood’s ugly mug! You grab Ajna by the shoulder to get her attention and make look at the photo once again.

“He can’t hurt you! He’s not here! He’s gone! You know he’s gone! There are no demons! You’re safe! I’m here with you!” You’ll bring her back to this world whether she likes it or not! “He can’t hurt you anymore!” You move the picture closer to her face…!

Ajna starts crying! Oh no!

She slowly realizes the picture can’t hurt her… Ajna takes a look at her shaking hands in disbelief and then tries to grab at the empty air for some reason… You hide the picture back into the bag as you give Ajna some time to breath.

“He’s dead…” Ajna is smiling. Uhm, you’ll take it. “J-Johnny…” Ajna looks as happy as she was when she showed you her stuff the other day!
“Did you do it?” Did it really work?!
“I d-d-don’t know if I d-did anything…” At least she snapped out of her panic attack. “My t-throat feels s-sore…”

Almost magically, Double J enters the room with a glass of water, gives it to her and leaves the room in a couple of seconds. None of you could even react.

“Can you address Osgood by name now?” Against your better judgment, you ask immediately.
Ajna does one of her signature fidgets upon hearing his name. “Y-Yes… I c-c-can…” Ajna responds after taking a sip of water. “Os… Osg… I said it b-before, w-what’s wrong with me?” Ajna looks a little irked.
“Baby steps, Ajna. You know that.” Well this went surprisingly well.

“…….I am so-sorry f-for everything I did.” Ajna’s apology feels like the final nail of Osgood’s metaphorical coffin in this case. You think. You don’t even know what was going through Ajna’s head this whole time. To you, nothing here made any sense. You’re just glad she’s a little better. “I n-need… a break.” Ajna looks fatigued and with good reason!

What do you do?

“Then rest well, Ajna.” You tap her on the arm and Ajna slowly goes to sleep with ease, all the weight on her shoulders is gone for the day! She ate most of the curry you prepared, so you don’t need to worry about her stomach being empty or this being anything but just tiredness. You’re just glad she’s doing better.

Seeing Ajna sleeping so peacefully reminded you of something, you should be having a break as well! You need to go back to your apartment and maybe return to ruling your kingdom! Or do something else, it’s your break after all.

Upon leaving her room, you’re approached by Double J – who has taken the role of the silent guardian so far. You inform him in what state Ajna is, then ask him if he can make sure Ajna is fine until Craig is back. He seems receptive to the idea and accepts, it was his job after all – or so he says.

“If you need help, you know where to find me.” Double J is very grateful for your help.
“Thanks, but that ain’t a big deal. And besides, I don’t know where to find you.”
“Upstairs.” He points directly up, so you take it he lives in that room.

“Yeah, you don’t need to do anything for me. It didn’t go as smoothly as I wanted, you heard her scream after all.” You have no idea why this turned out as good as it did.
“She always does that.”

“She does…?” You’re her neighbor and you’ve never heard her shriek like that before.
“Heh.” Double J chuckles. “Say hi to your girlfriend from me.”
“Ruby is not my girlfriend.”
“…If you say so.” Double J is hard to read. You could invite him over another time, he seems like a chill guy.

And so, this slightly uncomfortable conversation comes to an end and you leave Ajna’s apartment. All the muscles in your body relax as the intense pressure of the situation is all gone! You didn’t notice how much this was affecting you. But that’s the past, now it’s time to return home!

Inside your apartment it hits you immediately that your couch looks even comfier than before. Has your kingdom expanded during your absence? Inconceivable!

Ruby is waiting on the table watching TV, 4 empty plates on the table – with one of them being dirty. She must have waited for you as long as she could but she was hungry after all. Can’t blame her.

A cheerful Ruby welcomes you with a tender smile on her face, she notices you alone and comments that she had lunch ready for 4 if needed. She wanted to make amends with Ajna if possible. You tell her everything is fine and that Ajna doesn’t hold any ill feelings for her and next time things might be different. Ruby looks relieved to hear that, and now she goes to the kitchen with one of the empty plates and serves you lunch! It’s way past that time, almost time for school to be over, but you’re glad you’re going to eat something at least!
>>
>>4068786

Well, you’re not that glad with the quality of said food. Ruby cooked something healthy but she completely disregarded the taste. But you told yourself ‘food is food’ and ate it with a smile. As your mediocre meal is over, Ruby suggests that you resume your rule… well, not exactly with that wording, but she says it’s really time for you to relax.

…It certainly looks like something you want to do.

Yes, it’s time for King Comfy the 1st to resume his duties as the head of the mighty Kingdom of Coziness! You accept Ruby’s proposition and take a seat back in your throne! As if by magic it feels cozier than ever – fitting for your majesty’s status.

Like last time, Ruby brought a tray with various snacks! Healthier snacks all cut or divided in little pieces, like carrots, apples, grapes and more. And the icing of this healthy cake is that you have a nice glass of orange juice instead of soda to accompany it! You’re not hungry at all, but you really appreciate the effort and make it known to Ruby. Your roommate’s smile tells you she was waiting to show you all of this stuff.

But the best has yet to come! Last time you enjoyed Ruby’s expert scratches on your head, but now she reveals her new secret technique of pure relaxation. Yes, the all-powerful neck massage! This is a godly sensation no peasant will ever feel… Then the scratches came back, you knew life was worth living…

You’re exaggerating, but it does feel great! You close your eyes and give yourself to the flow…

Your peaceful rule continued for what felt like eons, yet the moment it stopped it made it feel like minutes. You open your eyes and see Ruby in sportswear! Goodness, you must have fallen asleep! Ruby notices you’re awake and tells you she’s going jogging for a little bit and once she’s back, she’ll more things ready for you! She giggles in excitement as she leaves your apartment before you could snap out of your comfy trance.

Suddenly, the vile device known as your phone rings as soon as Ruby leaves the land. Who is interrupting your rule and why? You must know this instant!

Who is calling and why? (Assume the prompts not selected are going to be text messages Johnny will receive later.)

You pick up the phone without looking at who’s calling! But it’s easy to recognize the voice of a certain positive girl! It’s your only party member, Scarlet, and she has some great news to deliver!

“Hello?”
“Johnny! Hi! It’s me! I have some cool news!” Scarlet’s optimism is infectious enough for you not to be as grumpy as you would’ve been for being interrupted in the middle of your comfy ritual.
“Hey Scarlet, how are you doing?” You should’ve asked for the news directly instead but force of habit got in the way.

“I’m doing great!” Scarlet is really pumped up. “I know you’re on a break today, buuuut... I have the base ready! I sent you a pic, but it looks so much better in person, so I was wondering if you wanted to come over and see! Also, I don’t know if you noticed, but I took your mask – I’m adding a little extra surprise on it just for you! I mean, that’s a given – but I didn’t know how to phrase it! You get the deal!”
“You want me to go over there right now?” You know it’s close, but is it really the time?

“Yes, please! I mean you don’t have to, but it would be great if you were here!” Scarlet really wants you over there. “We have some other things to discuss as well, so we can make it our first official team meeting!”

How do you respond?

>“Let’s just talk over the phone for now, tomorrow we’ll go together – how does that sound?”
>“Sure, let me get ready first.”
>“Sorry Scarlet, I’m busy now. Let’s meet up tomorrow for that meeting, okay?”
>Write In.

I didn’t include Matilda because I don’t view her as another half-naked waifubait. She shows no romantic interest in Johnny and is actually competent and stable. She’s a breath of fresh air compared to the other choices that were on the table and I’d prefer to avoid the waifu legion whenever possible.

You do realize he’s a reoccurring character that is not only aware of us, but goes to our school right? He’s part of a one-sided rivalry and I wouldn’t put it past him if he tailed us on more than one occasion.

You’re a funny guy. All jokes aside, I honestly belive that Howie is perfect for a reoccurring minor antagonist given his track record. As for Matilda, she also had a lot of narrative utility that doesn’t involve shippings.

“Sure, let me get ready first.” The final chapter of the Rule of King Comfy the 1st is over. Good-bye break time, it’s time to get serious!
“I’ll be waiting for you! I’ll send you the address again just in case! Oh, and the number too.” Scarlet sounds really excited, makes you wonder what she really has in store. “See ya!”
“Bye.” Why are you waving? You’re talking over the phone…

You went to the bathroom and had a speed shower, then you put on some comfortable clothes and get ready to tackle the world! Damn, resting sure does make you feel better! You send a text message to Ruby to inform her you’ll be out for a while. Midway towards the base, Ruby responds with a ‘Thanks for letting me know! Take care!’, so it went well. Oh, it’s worth mentioning you hid Osgood’s picture in your room, still inside the little bag.

You arrive at Tulipware Warehousing & Offices, and your place is #301… What a coincidence! Same number as your apartment! So the place Scarlet found is technically a big building with many warehouses that are used as offices. Well, technically there’s a section with the offices – but it’s the smallest part. At the reception you just talked to the man behind the counter, told him your name and where you’re going – and that’s it. You don’t know how to feel about that, but better privacy is good, right?

This whole place is made out of concrete and the doors change between intervals of 2, one side has metal garage-esque doors and the other has the normal red ones. You follow the directions and easily find your secret base! It’s on the third floor, area B. You send Scarlet a text to open up instead of knocking for no good reason. Scarlet opens up…

“Johnny! We were waiting for you!” Scarlet is so animated that she doesn’t even hesitate to hug you quickly and then move out of the way, skipping in place. “Ta-dah! What do you think?” She extends her hands to show you the place.

It’s a little cramped, no bigger than your living room – but neatly arranged. There is a kotatsu in the middle with a couple of pillows on the carpet for you to sit with someone who you aren’t expecting to be there, next to it, at the corner, is a little TV on a small table just a little bigger than the electronic itself. Upon the other wall, there is a small closet where you are probably going to store stuff, and right next to it is a table that almost fits perfectly with the space there is as well as a couple of chairs for you to use for everything you need. On said table there is a mini-fridge and enough space left for a laptop or two. Above the table, there are two squared windows almost at the ceiling level – they don’t look hard to reach for you.

And all in all, pretty great for a start!

“It’s great!” You’re digging this.
“Hehe! Here, these are the keys for the bathroom, it’s at the end of the hall.” Scarlet hands you a copy of the key. You hoped it would include one, but you’re close to it – so it’s not that bad. “Inside the closet there are futons, blankets and toilet paper.”

“Right, uhm, how long are we going to ignore him…” You point to the third man in question! It’s Duncan from school! What is he doing here? “S’up!”
“Hey Johnny, it’s nice seeing you.” The big man stands up and gives you a handshake.
“I needed some help moving out stuff so I invited a couple of people to help.” Scarlet confesses. “Just Duncan, Terry, Sammi and Sobong!” Who the fuck is Sobong?

“I unintentionally eavesdropped on their conversation and offered to help. I didn’t know you were related to this at all! What a coincidence!” The purple president chuckles.
“He basically carried everything here, he’s super strong!” Scarlet acts like she’s in awe.

“I owe you one.” You smile.
“You? Owe me? No, my friend, I’m glad to be of help.” Duncan smiles back. “Well, I’m going to make my leave now, my parents won’t be as kind to me if I arrive too late. Call me if you need anything again.”
“We will!” Scarlet reassures.

You give Duncan a fist bump and then he leaves the place. That came out of nowhere….

“I know this was supposed to be our secret base, but I didn’t want to bother you to help me decorate – so I called Terry to help and from there it went out of control!” Scarlet profusely apologizes. “I’ll have to invite them every now and then, so we don’t raise suspicion. But I’ll do it in my free time and aside from Duncan, nobody knows you’re in on this!”
“And… what exactly did you tell them about this place?” You mean if it’s not a secret base, then what it is?

“I told them they’ll understand later.” Scarlet winks. “You have to be mysterious sometimes! People always eat that up! Like the little surprise I have here!” Scarlet pulls her laptop out of her bag after pointing at it. “Anyway… I’m ready for the team meeting!”

You think there’s something missing here…

What’s next?

>Ask Scarlet if she got any information out of the people who were kidnapped.
>Ask Scarlet if she met Xavi.
>Ask Scarlet what upgrade she did to the mask.
>Tell Scarlet you’ll have to change locations ‘cause too many people know about this place.
>Tell Scarlet you’re too tired for a meeting and you just wanted to hang out.
>Ask Scarlet who the fuck Sobong is.

“So what did you do to the mask?” You’re dying to know what cool gadget she added.
“A tracking device.” Scarlet reveals! Your interest has completely died. “I thought it would be a good idea if I knew exactly where you were at all times!”

“…” You don’t know how to feel about this.
“J-Johnny, it’s a joke…” Scarlet is taken aback because of your reaction. “I actually did add one, but you can turn it off here.” She takes the mask from her bag, it looks thicker. She points at the same place where you can turn your voice modifier on and off, she added another button. “I can take it off if that makes you uncomfortable.”

“It’s fine…” For now.
“I’ll take it off then.” Scarlet can tell you’re lying, or holding back in this instance. She takes a screwdriver and takes a little piece out of your mask. “W-Well, the real cool thing is this!” She beats it gently with one hand. “Now it filters air like a gas mask! I wanted to give it something to see in the dark like in the movies, but you can already do that, right?”

“It looks exactly the same.”
“Yeah, it’s not the greatest gas mask ever, but I think it will help you out if something really stinks or some baddie has a cold!” Scarlet tries her best to sell you on this.

“Cool.” But not that cool…
“W-Well, I also have this…!” Scarlet opens up the closet and shows you her drone. “Ta-dah! I told you I had one! Now we can sneak in some areas without getting in danger!”
“Now that’s really cool.” You like this way better!

“Mhm! We’ll have to get creative to use it properly though! Maybe I can put the tracker on this…” Scarlet is already thinking ahead. “Anyway, there is something I wanted to talk about with you.”
“It’s an official team meeting, so go ahead.”

“Uhm, all right… So I discovered that… Ms. Uccelli is involved in all of this, and is part of the group with Amelia? I thought you two dislike each other since you made fun of her that other time...” Scarlet looks incredibly perplexed, making you feel like there’s something bad going on...

Sadly this conversation will stay unfinished until next thread! Thanks for playing everybody! Also assume there will be no thread this weekend unless I say otherwise in this thread!

The tracker is actually an excellent idea, especially if we can set up a code with Scarlet. Not sure if it will work through a crimzone, though. Same with the drone.
Thanks QM!

For your unadulterated faggotry, I dub thee: Pigeon Shit. This new undignified title describes your entire existence and identity in two words.

Wow, how will I ever recover? I haven't heard an insult that clever since 2nd grade
>>
So you’re referring to last week? Got it.
>>
>>4069605
We don't know what was "ultimately best for her" because we aren't omnipotent. Shit, we don't even know if she's ok after everything's said and done. She might be, or she might be too exhausted to act out right now. Regardless, your idea was reckless and the last time we acted like that it landed us in the hospital and almost irreparably fucked our (now former, so we don't even have their help to fall back on) teammates' trust. Now we just have to live with being either outright abusive or clinically idiotic to the mentally vulnerable, so thanks for that, jackass.
>>
Well, time will tell was it bad decision or not. I think its too soon to tell a difference in her behavior. Maybe she will recover, maybe not.
>>

All evidence seems to point more to the not alone helping over the painting just by itself either way. She just screamed in absolute fear, and could have caused chernobog to get a new host out of said fear if those eyes were any indicator.
Does that mean that just talking would help? Hard to say, but it also proves that 'forcing it' almost lead to the worst scenario and was stopped thanks to the speech.
Guy is still a utter punk either way. Got a win out of the choice that wasn't his and claims it was his. Can't trust him either way to make the right call, and now he's obvious for the future.
>>
>>4071246
Contextual evidence shows that this is definitely an improvement to how she was before, it could go wrong but that could apply to everything but it would be dumb to claim without actual evidence. What would be reckless was causing her to get all triggered while not addressing the issue at heart. And once again, this is nothing like the Neko situation

>>4071299
>She just screamed in absolute fear, and could have caused Chernobog to get a new host out of said fear if those eyes were any indicator.
I recommend you do a reread of the quest. Not even saying this to sound like a dick but this makes no sense with what we know
