Combat is very good at fighting, and has better overall base stats than the others. It's the type of ship to be in the middle of the enemy fleet and come out battered halfway to hell, but the enemy fleet is naught but ashes and scrap.

Active Support is a Flagship, carrier, invasion force, command center, and artillery barge wrapped into one. You can still brawl with it, inadvisable as that is, but it's a force multiplier. To be fair, if you do it right, you're multiplying your own force with a legion of drone fighters.

Passive Support is the industrial half of the Military-Industrial complex. Scrapping the battlefield, repairs, even ship production are all possible. It can also pass for a civilian ship, being the only type cleared for civilian use, meaning that it's possible to sort of blend in and hide, if you would believe it. It's not that good in combat for a TITAN, but still far outstrips any cruiser and most battleships.

"Alright then. 'This ship was dead' means that there were no signs of either a powered reactor or life support. The ship was a dead husk, and presumably nonfunctional."

>"QUERY, WHAT IS YOUR SHIP AND YOUR PURPOSE HERE?"

"It's a hyperspace salvage cruiser-tug. A very large tug for very large ships. Like this one. We thought it wasn't functional, and were going to see if we could repower it and get it to move away under its own power. We'd've had to waste fuel and bend labor laws pulling something this huge without help."

>"QUERY, WHAT ARE YOUR SHIP'S COMBAT CAPABILITIES?"

"She's a nasty one alright. Real scrapper if you feel me. 5 destroyer grade railguns, and a hidden, black market, cruiser grade railgun. Ask about the standard boarding procedures of the tug.
Was the boarding team in constant contact with the tug? (can we determine this independently, to see if he's telling the truth?) If not, did they have set time, when they were supposed to report? If they're late, what's going to happen. Also, don't forget to ask the other two same thing, once their interrogations start (or even better, run them in parallel).

I'm aiming at finding out how much time we have before the tug figures out that something is wrong. With the description of the weaponry of the tug, we should be pretty safe, but what if it tries to run away before we fully activate, and spreads news of our activation? This should be prevented, if possible.

Their vessel is armed but they aren’t hostile towards us, they seem to be scavengers. We have made it clear this is not a derelict vessel. Plus from what I can tell even if their ship is armed and ours is damaged, we outscale them by an order of magnitude and outgun them by about the same. Our Autocannons are online and our ship to ship missiles are 70% functional, our life support is already vented, so most of any fire they could put on us would be only marginally effective. If I am wrong QM please correct.

For other questions, they mentioned Hyperspace, does this universe have FTL? If so, is it a point to point jump through hyperspace style like Star Wars/Eve/Halo? Do we have any ftl interdiction?
>>
>>4066405
Ok, two things can happen if we let them go, one they are peaceful and we get some questions answered, two they turn hostile and we lose the element of surprise, they are scrapers, after all, they might not want to lose such a haul. We have to also consider the fact that any surviving organic crewmates are in the cryostasis if they turn hostile on us then we are risk needlessly risking our humans by not having the first shot to disable their weapons. I think the risk is too great to just let them walk back to there ship.

[You are correct on all fronts, the only weapon that can normally damage you is the cruiser railgun, but they might deepen a wound with the destroyer railguns.]

[Yes, that's how FTL works. Coincidentally, it also means the faster you are in realspace, the faster you are in hyperspace. The Captain may have mentioned FTL interdiction being in the works once or twice, but they would have installed it on The Iron Rule, not on you.]

[pic related]

>QUERY, SIGNIFICANT EVENTS?
["The Galactic Confederation was formed near a hundred years ago, pirates have been rampant, as well as a myriad of assorted celebrity scandals and civilian troubles."]

>THE DOSTORIAN CHURCH
[The Dostorian church was a branch of the Catholic church headed by Bishop Dostoria, who was a man of science, famously stating that a man can be understood to the core by understanding at his work, and that if we understand the universe, we can come closer to God. His work laid the foundations of your core, and his followers split from the Catholic church because of doctrinal differences relating to the nature of AI and their holiness or lack thereof. This is all your knowledge, you didn't even have to look for it.]

>CONFEDERATION
[The confederation as we know it was the Confederation of Earth, Basically Earth and the surrounding systems. The confederation now, possibly a descendant of our confederation, seems to be the major galactic powerhouse. They have black-ops because they can afford to have them. Nathaniel adds "They came into power when some of the smaller states banded together, broke an empire into pieces, gathered those pieces, and have been consolidating them ever since"]

>IMMEDIATE SUPERIOR
["Father-Medicus Jerimiah. A real genius, going on 200 and kept running strong by treatments he's tested on himself. My current superior, however, is the captain of the Anna Maria, Harry."]

>SERVICES AND PAYMENT
["They probably can't service you out here, they're meant to take things apart or tow them back to someplace that can, not put things back together. They can give you a tow or an escort if you need one though. I don't think you need the latter, but such a prize traveling alone would bring every pirate within 20 systems after you. They'd probably expect either a hefty sum of credits or salvage rights on the battlefield."]

Also what was the battle who's wreckage surrounds us, does he have any idea what happened to us and how long we've been offline?

>>4072695
[You have MINOR salvage capabilities. No wholesale scrapping entire battlefields for you. You can have repair drones attempt to get some of the wreckage to be reconstituted at the Nanoforge, but that isn't much. The Anna Maria can, however, deploy salvage arms and turn wreckage of entire small ships into raw materials quite easily. Anything its own size or bigger requires a haul back to a scrapyard.]

They're neutral though, right? Let's maneuver to hit them with our only working spinal railgun and hail them. If they're chill, we're chill, if there is enough of the debris field to go around
>>
>>4075849
[The Repair drones, though slightly diminished, start to do well with the scrap being hauled in by the Anna Maria and reconstituted into plating and components. Soon, the bridge, originally a bunker surrounded by sensor arrays and armor, now a blackened crater, begins to look like it used to again.]

[However, the Anna Maria doesn't seem to be the only one with a scrapping permit in the area. Soon, a small fleet of scrappers jumps in, seeming to be quite small as far as its ships go, but large in number. The largest is a cruiser sized ship, though much more lightly armed than the Anna Maria. In fact, the Anna Maria could pass for military compared to these newcomers. They have but 2 escorts, destroyers.]

>>
>>4076129
[Think Bigger. Sizes go as such]

[Corvette>Frigate>Destroyer>>Cruiser>Battleship>>>>TITAN]

[Should all go to plan, we sit midfield, screened by tougher ships and our fighters. We circle the enemy, missile striking anything our sensors or fighters designate as a threat. Our fighters are our longarm, and can do operations on the other end of the system. Should an invasion come, we have the highest Marine/crew ratio, as well as the appropriate number of delivery devices.]

[If we were to be compared to the Legion, we would be an order of magnitude larger, proportionally faster and more maneuverable but less armed/armored, with far more fighters proportionally.]

I don't mind using our fighters and bombers I guess but I imagine they're harder to replace than missiles. The starfall is specialised for both missiles and carrier capabilities in seemingly equal measure, also our missile systems are in very good nick compared to everything else on our ship so it seems like a waste not to use them.

Alright, we position ourselves between the incoming threat and the scavenger flotilla, and have them in position to support us with what weaponry they have.

SLBMS, antiship missiles and spinal railgun hot, have fighters and gunboats ready to launch and autocannons on standby.

Start loading marines into boarding pods just in case the opportunity arises. The incoming Titan is a big threat, but also a huge fuckin' opportunity.
>>
>>4081368
support
>>
>>4081368
Yeah lets go with this
>>
>>4081359
Remember, we are a planetary invasion based titan, we are unlikely to win by pure firepower if it isn’t a civilian vessel or pure support vessel. Our best strategy would be to open a corridor for boarding marines and assault the ship. For that we need to clear a corridor of their point defense and open a hole for them to get in.
Rotate our orientation to put our spinal rail gun in line with their projected entry point. We will probably only get a few shots at the most with it, so make them count. Look for shielding subsystems, big weapons, or areas with weak point defense sections to put a hole in for our boarders. Ready missile tubes and launch a fighter screen. Tell our allies to link their targeting system to ours and prepare to target their point defense systems with non interceptable weapons like energy weapons or rail guns so we can launch boarding parties. We need a corridor clear of point defense for our marines to fly in with a fighter escort. Do not engage until after we have hailed them or identified them as an actual enemy.
>>
>>4081368
[Remember, you have about 400 marines. They're good, but not THAT good. You can cripple their engines and come back later, but it is MASSIVELY ill-advised to board the enemy titan.]
>>
>>4081390
>>4081393

That's what the SLBMS and railgun are for. We punch a hole, open a corridor in their point defense, then have fighters and gunboats run interference and launch boarding pods at vulnerable areas.

We're kind of suffering from an intelligence deficit, so it doesn't do much to chastise us for misunderstanding aspects of the quest that haven't been explained yet.
>>
>>4081393
So you're saying our boarding pods can't deploy our tanks and assault vehicles? I hope the designers and engineers responsible for that oversight were shot in the street like dogs.
>>
>>4081390
>>4081393
[You should read this as well. It's not out of the window of possibility, but I would reckon that, on a titan like this, there's around 2000 marines at least, and far, far more fighting crew. You're going to need to actually fight this thing, unfortunately.]
>>
>>4081400
[It would be... inadvisable to make corridors wide enough for a tank. Or an assault vehicle.]
>>
>>4081401
Yeah, and if the SLBMS blowing big fuckign holes in the ship don't reduce the number of crew/marines we have to fight through sheer collateral damage, I'm gonna have to call you out on it OP.
>>
>>4081404
That is why tanks and assault vehicles have guns to make holes in bulkheads, OP.
>>
>>4081404
And if there are no corridors wide enough to move tanks and AVs around, then how do we relocate ours and get them from storage to deployment? How do we land them on the planet? There are always larger corridors on ships to allow for high traffic, spare parts, and munitions transfer. Just bear in mind that punishing creative tactics tends to kill quests.
>>

I vote we run for it

>>4079711
[You're built to kill. They're not. Not unless a pirate got to them.]
And a pirate should look for easier prey than an operational Titan with anti-ship and anti-Titan firepower available.

So if this is suicide, it's because he's holding out on info and the quest is doomed from the outset.
>>
>>4081408
[The. The corridors are physically not wide enough to cram a tank through. The doors aren't the problem, it's the walls.]

>>4081405
[Sure it would. it's just that you're proposing some very long odds and I want you to know what you're getting into.]

>>4081411
[They're stored in the cargo bays. Which are attached, by blast door and not corridor, to the launch bays for the non boarding/drop pod landing craft.]
>>
Let's just blow it to pieces and pick up the pieces afterwards. We have a picket fleet of salvagers, after all. Hopefully we don't blow it up too badly and can fix it later
>>
>>4081420
That's basically the idea. The choice isn't between fight or run, it's between fight or go to a more entertaining quest.
>>
>>4081368
+1, except use the fighters to cover the missiles, and cut anything about boarding
>>
>>4081424
Boarding is a secondary objective. Not an initial act. It's for after we blow great big holes in the ship and can potentially have quick access to their bridge or engineering.
>>
>>4081419
Okay. Ship terminology 101: Bulkheads are walls. I already addressed this issue.

And not having corridors large enough for tanks and AVs is a serious ovesight considering the size of equipment that has to be moved around a Titan-scale vessel. Even WWII battleships had a 'broadway' scale corridor that was large enough for tanks to allow for moving of equipment.
>>
>>4081419
http://i.imgur.com/9Q2xnRg.jpg Now scale that up for Titan scale equipment and munitions.
>>
>>4081429
op is, by my reckoning, basing a large amount of this quest on starsector. In that game, boarding is only a planetary mechanic, and while we're able and should be able to use it on ships, doing it to a titan is suicide. the typical way to capture a ship s shoot the absolute living shit out of it and kill everything aboard, and hope to god the engines still work when the fight is over.
>>
>>4081424
Seconding this

>>4081422

>>
>>4081435
there's no way in hell we can drive a tank inside a spaceship
>>
>>4081447
That's why I said 'ready' the boarding pods and not 'launch' boarding pods. Have them prepared for opportunity is not the same as immediately committing to their use.

>>4081451
I understand, but I dislike being railroaded.
>>4081452
That's where you're wrong my man. You just have to be prepared to accept a certain level of collateral damage.
>>
>>4081458
>Have them prepared for opportunity is not the same as immediately committing to their use.
+1
>I dislike being railroaded
if anything this quest could use more railroading to prevent this kind of discussion every time we try to do something
>collateral damage
would you try to use a Sherman to take a battleship? I see the entire concept as flawed
>>
>>4081467
>Would you try to use a sherman to take a battleship
No, if only because a WW2 battleship is much smaller compared to a starship Titan. Unless tanks have also grown to the same degree, this is not an apt comparison. And if they have, again I iterate, this is a lack of information given that would be most useful and help OP out if they would disseminate it.
>>
>>4081447
[Don't get me wrong, you are controlling probably the only ship capable of successfully boarding titans with impunity. But you literally have less than 5% of the robotic marines you should have, and about 1% of the total marines you should have.]

>>4081458
[Normally, I would say go ahead and board but boarding right now would be borderline suicidal. And, though driving a tank through the corridors would be cool, the corridors don't usually fit tanks for a reason. Namely being that you don't want people driving through the corridors in a tank, so you build the corridors in such a way as to prevent that. As such, boarding pods only load humanoids, not vehicles.]
>>
>>4081472
>>4081473
let's come back to this when we actually have things to use to board. In short:
blast the other titan with missiles, use fighters to cover the missiles. Tell the scrappers to get behind us and away from the other titan.
>>
>>4081473
Okay, then I have to ask what the point of an assault vehicle is, if not to assault things with the benefit of being smaller than a tank.

But thank you for finally saying boarding pods won't fit the tanks, and that's something we need to do R&D on. So we need to start cranking out more Marines to have a decent chance at boarding and taking portions of the enemy Titan intact. That doesn't change the strategy much, if at all considering boarding was to be an opportunistic endeavour, and not a keystone of our strategy.
>>
>>4081476
Yes.
>>
>>4081393
>>4081401
I expected our marines would be our best advantage since we are made for invasions, but if we expect them to have more we shouldn’t try to take the ship.

I am assuming we can’t just flee considering our mission objective was to guard the cargo of the stasis pods currently floating around everywhere.

In this case, I would say same plan, clear out point defense and board marines, but board with a nuke and detonate it as far inside them as possible.
>>
>>4081473
Fellas could we just blast away all the defences and cut the Titan up? We have scrappers that can probably cannibalise the ship even if we don’t control it
>>
>>4081490
>>4081476
We are extremely unlikely to be able to outgun them. We are an invasion support ship not a gunboat, which they might actually be. Head on attack is probably suicide.
>>
>>4081493
I would agree, except we have SLBMs and our invasion support weapons are pretty nifty for anti-ship use. Pirates, by definition, are hard up for support, maintenance, and supplies, so from a logical standpoint they'll have the handicap of wanting to take us intact for spares and supplies.

And we have a salvage fleet and nanoforge that doesn't really care how intact they are when we're done. Of course, this all discounts any attempt to negotiate with them after we do some good hits and threaten them with boarding. We can -lie- to them about our capabilities, mind you.
>>
>>4081493
And now that I think about it, a Titan in pirate hands, if this is a pirate, should be worth a pretty decent bounty. Should it not? Our being an AI should give us a decent advantage in systemology and coordination, as well as our being a warship. There are apparently titan-scale civilian vessels for salvage, mining, and manufacture unless I've misunderstood and misread OP's tidbits.

If I'm wrong, well...they're jumping into relatively close range so we can always try ramming speed.
>>
>>4081506
[There, infact, are. And you can mess about with them, put on some arms and armor. Only a certain amount is legal, however. We'll be seeing soon whether they care about even faking legality in nicer systems.]

[Bombers. A misnomer, as they don't usually carry actual bombs, but guided missiles or an almost comically oversized railgun. Used to kill enemy ships, bad at self defense.]

[Gunships. Almost an independent ship in on itself, they are covered in autocannons and antifighter missiles. Very good at killing fighters, effectively the interceptor's bigger, slower, angrier brother. Can fuck up corvettes in a group, or be outfitted for heavier ordnance for larger targets.]

[Every fighter can be converted to perform each other's roles, if not usually as well as the original. IE, you can make a bomber into a multirole, and vice versa.]

>>
>>4081805
we're not gonna broadside them, we stay back and make them deal with our fighters before us while we lob icbms at them. Our ballistics and armor are lacking compared to another titan, we can wipe a picket fleet.
>>
>>4081473
Note to self: develop and field boarding tanks capable or drilling or burrowing through steel corridors. It could be ideal against the advanced ships since they have weak armor.
>>
>>4082276
The problem is that it’s not a fleet, it’s another titan that is jumping in. Chances of another titan being weaker than us when we are heavily damaged, a support ship, and running on centuries old technology, such as having no shields, are slim to none.
You don’t get a ship the size of a titan if it doesn’t have a damn good reason to be that big. You also don’t get one unless you plan to use it. It’s a fuckhuge resource investment, orders of magnitude larger than a destroyer, that you could otherwise probably get a small fleet out of that would probably be more effective 80% of the time. The best reason I know of is the square cube law, which would imply it either has a lot of extra volume for armor and big ass guns if it is an attack ship or room to fit a ton of other shit in it like we do if it is a support ship.

Does the corp Titan have AI of its own? Maybe if it’s a salvaged ship we could get it on our side, although we’d have to board it to defend its killswitch.

Alternatively we could appealing to corporate concern for their bottom line, would they risk destruction of what will likely be an extremely valuable asset over chance to scrap us? However, I don’t expect them to back off any free floating salvage. Unless they recognise our claim...

There is restricted military property in this debris field. Seizure by private interest will be treated a hostile action and responded to accordingly.

1. Any details about local scavenging law, loopholes se could use or have to plug

2. Any background on the corp in question (how much more problems they could send our way, how likely they are willing to risk burning hardware trying to get back at us before they cut their losses)

3. Local authority that could put fear of God unto whatever middle management we are going to be talking to (i.e. entity that we could name drop that could conceivably seize corporate assets on top of whatever damage we could inflict here and now with out missiles)
>>
>>4091063
Seconding

Way I see it there are few possible outcomes to this situation that we could be headed for

1) we reach agreement that the corp can salvage all it wants and leave us alone. Probably most feasible outcome barring a firefight, but means giving up on whatever was floating free of our cargo.

2) reaching an agreement similar to what we had with other scavs, that may be difficult to impossible, depending on whether conventional scrap is enough for them to give up on juicy bits, and whether we convince them to not fuck with us despite our visibly damaged hull.

3) getting them to leave the area. This may be the best outcome although likely not a permanent one as it might simply mean them returning with overwhelming support later on.

4) violent firefight

5) if the corp Titan has an AI we could maybe try and contact it piggybacking the comm line we are using and try to get it to help us. Probably the most risky course of action depending on skill of corporate crew, loyalties and integrity of the counterpart AI and possibly creating an additional hazard/objective/moral quandary of exposing the AI to danger by corp crew it would turn against.

>WHATEVER YOU HAVE ON SALVAGE LAW AND BRIGHTSIDE INC.

[You receive an extensively annotated pdf of local salvage loopholes and law. You can't claim personal ownership of the system as an AI, but you, as a representative of the Rim Lords, can claim national control, as the Rim Lords have (If unwittingly) maintained a presence here (You) for somewhere in the order of a hundred times as long as is necessary. You don't quite know if the Rim Lords are still a sovereign state, but if not, you can claim rulership as the sole remnant of the nation, and therefore file a complaint with the Confederation of them having gone over your head. If they still are, you can simply state you never received orders to let them come in and take military property.]

>HARRY. ANOTHER THING.

["What?"]

>ARE THERE ANY ORGANIZATIONS THAT YOU OR I COULD FEASIBLY CLAIM TO HAVE INFLUENCE WITH, THAT THEY WOULD BE FEARFUL OF ANGERING?

["I can't say much for friends in high places as to myself, but you? Apparently, whoever you are, Doc's talking about you like some kind of saint. It'd be real easy to claim you have pull with the Dostorian church. And the church has a lot of people embedded in low places in all sorts of organizations. You want a quality doctor? Go to them and they'll come aboard on the cheap. Same with mechanics and other jobs like that as well."]

>[What do we say to Brightside Incorporated with this new knowledge?]
>>
>>4091463

Well, seems like we can stick to our (rim lords) claim to the system, inform them they are trespassing and unless they conform to our supervision during salvaging they should leave so as to not endanger the fixed assets section of their balance sheet.

We could let them salvage on condition that their drones will feed us data we cross reference with ours assuming we get to call dibs on what we want recovered.

I’d leave the church out of this unless the manager we get to talk to is extremely recalcitrant, in which case we could also raise the question of their own AI (assuming we learn they have one), whether it is treated with appropriate respect.
>>
>>4091521
This but without letting them salvage. It’s ours and we need whatever we can get to get back into shape
>>
>>4091521
[Assuming military control, the bigger or smaller a ship is, the more likely it has AI. Big ones need it so that it's not a waste of manpower, small ones need it so that you don't waste men on a corvette. It would be fair to say that the Southvoider has an AI, but of what type, and how much control it has, is unknown.]
>>
>>4091711

is it possible to smuggle signals or cue that would look like noise to human analytics but an AI would be able to pick up on and maybe somehow respond? Perhaps through minute oscillations in core output or specific pattern in firing maneuvering thrusters?

Of course that would have to happen fast enough upon our prompt so we could rule out humans mimicking the behaviour after they intercept our signal.
>>
>>4091727
[No, all of your predetermined methods of signaling had to be slow enough for a human to pick up on. Though not necessarily all were known to the public, so you could run the risk that this is a former military AI and send some military codes. They might not pick up on them even if they were military, for a number of reasons.]
>>
>>4091738
Hm. I suppose it makes sense if you wanted to prevent an AI revolt.

Well, let's put one of the signals into our communication, perhaps as a means of asserting our own veracity, and see how the meatbags and/or the AI within respond to it.
>>
>>4091745
[Just how secret do you want to go? You can do ones that are practically open secrets among all militaries but kept from civvies, or Rimlord/COE specific codes, or some top-secret Rimlord codes.]
>>
>>4091871
Let’s go with a better known call.

How secret is the secret handshake? If there’s a real risk that the Corp could replicate it I’d rather not risk it, unless maybe if it’s a multi-stage back and forth (I.e. ship one says A, ship Two says B, then ship one is expected to say C and ship two D, ) or if the handshake incorporates some sort of mechanism to prevent unauthorized usage (such as inclusion of ship specific parameters hashed into the greeting, so that attempt at replication would show up as inconsistent).

Also apologies to fellow anons if I’m not paranoid enough.
>>
>>4091898
[It depends. Again, your most secret handshakes may well belong to a dead nation, and the only one you can be almost entirely sure will work is so general that they may well have it in their database.]

[Let me put it like this. The more secret the handshake, the less likely it is for the other to know who you are from it, but the Corp sure as shit won't either if it's really specific. So, you can risk the Corp understanding the message to boost the chance of the other AI understanding it. If it's even a military AI.]

>THIS SYSTEM IS UNDER RIM LORD MILITARY CONTROL. ALL SALVAGE IS PROPERTY OF THE RIM. ANY THEFT WILL BE MET WITH FORCE. ANY SURVIVORS OR OFFSITE REMOTE OPERATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF NAVAL LAW SECTION 73 AND CIVILIAN LAW (whatever laws we just got sent saying we have rightful claim to the system for having occupied it so long) PIRACY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Repeat the original message to get our point through that we still consider it valid since by us existing the rim lords do as well and tack on the new laws we learned so they know we have rightful claim to the system and salvaging would be illegal.
