Throughout the course of the day, you do as you please. Stopping at times to snack, you whimsically move from one activity to the other. Once it's early in the afternoon, you decide that it's about time for something else. There are a few people that you could visit.

There's still the possibility of exploring the city a bit more, as well. With your speed it should be relatively easy to scour the area. Before, it was always such a confusing hassle. At least compared to the historical part of the village.

It's later in the afternoon, so Naruto should probably be finishing up his normal workday. After that is when the never-ending stream of catch-up paperwork starts, however. He'd probably appreciate someone interrupting that. You head on out and casually speed along to the Hokage's office.

The secretary lets you in. While you're there, you ask her if Shizune happens to be there today. She says that she's already gone home for the day, but she'll be around regularly.

Heading into Naruto's office, you're only mildly surprised to see a large number of Shadow Clones standing around and sorting through paperwork. Presumably, the real Naruto is seated at the desk reading over things they hand him.

Everyone looks up at once, which is kind of creepy, and waves. The seated Naruto is the only one who speaks.

"Hey, Takeshi. What's up? Did you have some questions about the mission, or something?"

"I wanted your opinion on something. I want to start learning how to access Sage Mode. Seeing as you're probably the best master of it alive right now, I was wondering what you thought the best way to go about that might be."

He nods in response, slowly. "I see. I hope you understand what you're getting into. Many people take an entire lifetime to master Sage Mode. Even my sensei, the Sannin Jiraiya, took many years to achieve a basic mastery of it. You should talk to your summons. They'll be the best ones for figuring out if you're ready to begin the training. Thankfully, me being able to use Shadow Clones helped me to master it fairly quickly."

You blink. "Shadow clones? What do you mean?"

Naruto smiles. "Well, you know how a Shadow Clone relays everything it experiences back to the user when it's destroyed?"

You nod.

Naruto taps his head. "That means if I have ten clones try to learn one move, and they all learn ten different things, it all comes back to me. It's an experience multiplier."

You stand there quietly for a moment, just looking at him. You rub your face. "Why doesn't everyone do this?"

He shrugs. "Most people don't have nearly as much chakra as I do. Of course, they could still get some benefit of out of it. One clone is twice as much progress as normal!"

You rush forward and put your hands on the desk. "Naruto. Shadow Clones. Please, teach me!"

He moves back slightly, surprised. "Er, I'm really not supposed to do that. You see, it's actually a Forbidden Technique because of the risks it poses to your chakra pool, and-.."

You whip your finger out and point it at him accusingly. "But didn't you steal the scroll when you were a Genin?? Also, your son knows Shadow Clone Jutsu! Am I starting to detect a bit of NEPOTIS-"

A Shadow Clone from behind you slaps its hand over your mouth. Naruto on the desk is holding his head, and sighs. "Fine, fine, jeez! Just don't mention it! If people realize stuff like this I'll have to teach it to everyone! Honestly, I can't believe more people don't call me out on it. I'll show you when you get back from your mission."

You beam, smiling. "Thanks, Naruto!"

On your way out, you ask the Secretary if she might know where to find Kakashi. She informs you that he should be at the Academy, currently. Apparently he likes to keep tabs on all the student's progress.

You arrive, and make your way for the teacher's conference room. Sure enough, inside, Kakashi is chatting with several of them and pouring over different stacks of paperwork. You knock on the frame of the door. "Hi. Hope I'm not interrupting."

Kakashi shakes his head. "Not at all, we were just about finished. I just needed to collect some information."

You take a few steps forward, so that you're in front of the long table. Kakashi folds his hands. "How can I help you?"

You ask him about the different ideas for Jutsu that you've been having lately. Most notably, controlling water-constructs and a Bubble Clone jutsu.

Kakashi thinks for a moment. "Well, the first one doesn't sound too hard. If I were you I'd start by learning 1000 Needles of Death. It's a water style technique with that same basic function. It could be a good foundation for creating new jutsu related to it. As for the Bubble Clone, you'll have to figure that one out on your own. Upsides and downsides of inventing your own style. That's why I preferred to just copy people, mostly."

You thank him for his help, and make your way back outside. It's getting dark, but you might be able to find something else to do before you need to head home.

Ichiraku's is fairly close, so you decide to swing by and enjoy some dinner. Per usual, you get a deluxe. It includes a wide variety of different ingredients from the menu. It's enough to fill you up completely, and have leftovers for breaksfast as well.

While you're eating, a familiar face slinks into the seat next to you. They so completely silently, but in a non threatening manner. From your peripheral, you already have a pretty good idea of who it is. The white skin and blue kimono are a fair give away. Slowly turning, you see Mitsuki leaning on his hands smiling at you.

"Hi, Takeshi. It's been quite a while."

You grin. "Hey, Mitsuki! It's been years. Great to see you."

He nods. "You as well." He orders a drink, and sits straight up. "I've heard from the Hokage that you're interested in learning Sage Jutsu."

You blink. "W-wha? I only just talked about that with him."

He chuckles. "I happened to see you leaving as I was coming in. The Hokage brought it up to me. You see, I am a user of Sage Mode. Though I've still a low mastery of it, I'd be happy to show you the results of my training sometime. Perhaps you could learn something."

You grin. "Sure. That sounds great. It'll have to wait until after my mission, though. I'll be gone for a few days."

Mitsuki takes a long drink from his glass, and sets it down with a sigh. "So, you're going on one of those missions. Probably you and your team. Makes sense they'd send you guys as a group. I think I'm going to be receiving a group from Sunagakure."

"What are you talking about?" you ask.

Mitsuki chuckles. "You'll find out soon, Takeshi. Anyways, just wanted to say hi. I'll see you when you get back."

After finishing your meal, you head home and try to get some rest. The next morning, you head out to the gate and find Hanto and Ai already there and ready.

"Hey, guys!" you smile. You weren't sure who you were going to be going with on the mission. A moment later, Kichiro lands nearby in a small explosion of dust. He stands up, and looks around. "Was I last??"

Ai nods. "Barely. We were all on time today."

Hanto throws a finger up to the air, and shouts. "Alright! That means it's gonna be a perfect mission! Triple S rank, no less! This is our first A ranked mission as a group. That means we're probably gonna go up against at least five S rank threats, if we take our past record into account. I want everyone on their guard today."

A warm feeling fills your chest, as a smile creeps up. It's good to be back with your full, original squad.

You're going to have to travel by boat to get to Snow Country. Getting to the port only takes a couple hours, and you have a little free time in the small town before the boat launches. You've been given bags full of clothing and gear from the Leaf Village, which you can investigate later.

You walk over to Hanto, who's taking a drink from his silver flask and smoking a cigarette.

"Sup?" he says. "I hate going to the Snow, personally. Fucking cold. Imagine that."

"What do you know about the mission?" you ask.

He shrugs. "More than you, but it's supposed to be a need to know basis. I guess I don't really care though, so I'll tell you anyways. Just don't tell anyone else. It's good for you to have a head start on the others, anyways."

"What do you mean?"

He chuckles, looking over to make sure Ai and Kichiro are preoccupied. "All five of the major nations are holding an international tournament among the most promising Chunin of this generation. Five ninja will be chosen from each nation, and they'll fight each other in sequence. In the end, the nation with the most victories will be declared the winner. The Grand Prize is not only cash, but connections. Meeting the world's leaders and having a chance to establish partnerships with them. I'm sure you've realized who you know has a significant correlation with what you know."

You blink. "That sounds rad, but what does it have to do with the mission?"

Hanto slumps. "Right. The Snow and Sand are collaborating to create a new piece of technology, and we're here to stress test it's final phases. Some sort of weapon."

You smile. "Oh, cool! No surprises then. We can kind of relax a little bit."

Your sensei nods. "Yeah. I suppose we can. Most of our time is going to be spent getting settled in and reviewing the exact nature of the mission, today. After that we'll begin testing proper for a few days, and head back."

Once you're done speaking with Hanto, you head back over to Kichiro and Ai. They're talking about some of the training that Sasuke helped Ai with.

"He really showed me how to push the Tanketsu to it's limit. I could only use it briefly, before. I'd say it's almost on the level of the Sharingan." she says.

Kichiro considers this. "Maybe you can teach it to me sometime, then."

She shakes her head. "Kakashi said I'm not supposed to train anyone. You'd probably cause your eyeballs to explode. It's a forbidden technique."

He slumps. "Fine. I guess I'll have to wait on that one. There's still a bunch of other crap I still need to train anyways. I'm getting pretty good at the 8 Gates, but still don't have complete control."

You smile. "Why am I the only one here who doesn't know a forbidden jutsu? Maybe you and Hanto can start teaching me the Gates, after I get a better handle on Dragon Boxing."

Ai raises an eyebrow. "You're learning that now, as well? I remember you telling me about all these different ideas for Jutsu that you had, before we arrived. How are you going to find enough time to learn Soap, Fire, Water, Genjutsu, Medical Jutsu, Taijutsu..."

You chuckle. "I was also thinking about finding a way to produce other chemical reactions with Boil Release. I could make steam, cause my water jutsu to be blistering hot, learn to make acids. Alcohol is another possibility, which has various uses."

Kichiro crosses his arms. "I would have imagined Sasuke would have narrowed you down into more specialized categories. Aren't you worried about spreading yourself thin?"

You shake your head. "Sasuke told me that it's in my nature to be well rounded. Seeing as I have no particularly great talent when it comes to training, once I master one thing, the next step tends to be really hard. Like, when I first graduated, I couldn't even cast an elemental jutsu while you could, Kichiro. I didn't spend all my time training just that one technique, though I could have. Instead, I focused on different, smaller goals."

He nods. "Sure, that much I get. It took me forever to learn how to properly use Fireball Jutsu."

You smile. "It's like this. I couldn't cast elemental jutsu, because I had too little chakra and my control was poor. But I could learn a low rank Genjutsu, and the tree walking jutsu. Then, my control had gotten a significant boost! All of my seemingly unrelated skills actually play off of each other. Sasuke explained this as the reasoning for increasing my speed so much. It boosts my ability with my Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu. As all rely on strong positioning."

Kichiro scratches his head. "Man, Sasuke really put a lot of thought into it. Naruto just kinda had us do stuff and get stronger."

Hanto calls the three of you over. The boat is ready to depart.

It makes for the north, and your squad changes into their winter gear as the temperatures drop. It's all dark green Leaf village equipment.

First you head over to Kichiro, who's looking out at the ocean while smoking. His winter coat has a large fur collar on it, and he has a skull cap on with his headband to keep warm. He nods at you as you approach.

"I wanted to ask if you knew anything about Sage Mode, from training with Naruto."

He takes a long drag of his cigarette, before standing up and turning towards you. He blows the smoke out of the side of his mouth. "Yeah, but I suck at it. I acquired a summon contract while you were away. Rats are my animal. Lame, right?"

You shake your head. "Nahh, I bet they're pretty neat. So, you've started the training, at least?"

He nods. "Yeah. It's dangerous, though. They're kicking my ass right now. I need to focus more on control and dexterity for the time being. Fighting a bunch of rats is actually a huge pain in the ass.."

You chuckle. "Well, I guess it'll be different for each clan depending on the species. I hope mine isn't too bad."

He smiles, and lifts his cap up slightly to get a better look at you. "Well well, trying to go for Sage Mode too, huh? We should get Ai in on this, we can be the new Sannin someday."

You give him a thumbs up, and head on over to Ai.

She smiles, slightly. "Hi. Wanna play a game?"

You nod. "Sure. We've got time to kill."

You shrug your shoulders. "Sure. You can go first."

She thinks for a moment, looking out at the ocean. Then she looks back. "Okay. I'm ready."

Stepping over to your sensei, you look out at the ocean with him. "So, about this tournament. If five Chunin from the Leaf are going to be fighting, do you know if I'll be one?"

Hanto shakes his head. "I don't know. From what I understand, the competitors haven't been picked yet. A couple of the top spots are shoe-ins, though. Sarada will be going, as well as Mitsuki. I don't know if Boruto will be trying to participate, but if he wants in I imagine he'll be plenty capable of earning a spot. I'd say Mari would be in if she wasn't already a Jounin, and Ai is technically a Genin. So two, maybe three spots open. I'm going to go ahead and guess you want one?"

You nod. "Yeah."

Hanto chuckles. "Do good on this mission, then. We're only in the beginning phases of preparing for it, so until things go public we'll be working like normal. Of course, getting an early edge on in the training, too.

You thank your sensei.

After talking to Hanto, you go back to Ai and play a couple more rounds of 20 questions with her. Kichiro joins in on the game as well, while Hanto mostly just chills. The crew operating the boat go about things as normal. As you travel farther north, eventually the clouds gather and it begins to snow. The captain announces that you're officially in Snow Country at this point.

Ai explains the situation in the country to you.

"Apparently, for many months out of the year, the weather is consistently icey cold. Initially the people living here had quite a difficult time growing with modern times, but the relative peace of recent years allowed for innovation. Through trade they're now a significant part of the world stage, though not quite a great power."

Kichiro raises an eyebrow. "Are you a freakin brochure?"

She ignores him and continues. "It's greatest advantages are the strong natural defenses of it's terrain, their technological innovation, and their ore resources of various types."

You nod. "I see. It makes sense that the Sand would want to collaborate with them."

You imagine that the Sand is preparing for the upcoming tournament.

Another hour later, and you dock at the shore with your group. It's about noon, at this point. You have instructions to travel by train to the castle where the Yukikage lives.

During the train ride, you, Hanto, Kichiro, and Ai are all in the same cart. Hanto takes a drink, sighs, and addresses the group. "I'm sure everyone is familiar with Nyoko, who you all competed against in your first Chunin Exams. Well, just a couple years later, and she's the very first Yukikage now. Her power is as real as you may imagine, but that's not why I'm telling you this. She may be the Yukikage, but her mother is still the defacto leader of the people. Be respectful to both and things should go smoothly. Got it?"

Everyone agrees.

You arrive at the castle shortly after. With no interruptions, it's a fairly short ride from here to town. It should be easy to go back and forth if you like.

At the castle, armored shinobi escort you to your individual rooms in a western wing of the castle. They're fairly nice, with classical decor of an older era.

You have the rest of the day to do as you please before the mission starts tomorrow. What would you like to do?

Keeping your winter gear on, you head back outside. It's only a short walk down the hill the castle is on before you're in the middle of a pine forest. The castle is still visible through the trees behind you, so you should be able to go some distance without getting lost.

You walk through the snow until you come across a small clearing. As snow gently falls around you, you find it to be incredibly peaceful. It's the perfect place to concentrate on developing a new technique. Somewhat based on your Bubble Bomb Jutsu, you're going to be attempting to create a Bubble Clone with a similar effect.

First, you begin to manipulate your chakra into Boil Release with a couple seals. Holding it, you think of what to do next. From before you would manipulate the soap chakra into the shape of a bubble.

You attempt to give it another seal, this one being from the Water Clone technique.

Sure enough, you manage to create a clone. However, something certainly seems wrong. The clone has no surface, being constructed entirely from water. Looking closer it appears like you've made a clone constructed out of soapy water, instead of a bubble clone.

Backing up, you throw a senbon at it. It harmlessly splashes to the ground. Not exactly what you were intending.

This time, you begin adding the seals for Haze Clones instead. Suddenly, a deep voice speaks out from behind you. "Working as hard as ever, I see."

You turn. About ten feet away, standing in the snow calmly, the first thing you see is a huge black wolf. Easily as large as a horse. Riding on top of it, is Anzai. He was an opponent that you had during your Chunin Tournament. Due to him not wanting to fight Nyoko, he opted to give you a fair fight in Taijutsu instead. You were impressed by his honor and loyalty.

You don't remember the wolf, though. Maybe it's his summon animal. It stares at you with yellow eyes, panting hot mist from it's mouth. You slowly raise a hand, and wave. "Hi, Anzai. Nice wolf."

"Thanks. Are you working on a new jutsu?"

You nod. "I've come up with a couple Soap Style techniques since you last met me. I'm trying to develop a new one."

He raises an eyebrow. "Really? Well, I'll leave you to it then. I just wanted to say hi. I'll be helping out tomorrow, during your mission. See you later."

The wolf rides off. Interestingly, you notice it's footsteps are completely and utterly silent, even as it bounds at full speed.

You spend the next few hours try to develop the move, but progress is slow. It will probably take another training session to have a full revelation.

It takes a bit of time, but you manage to find Hanto having breakfast in the castle. He pours whiskey and a lot of creamer into his coffee. He's also having a large plate of ham, eggs, bacon, beans, and toast.

Sitting down, you join him in a similar meal. Though you just stick to the bacon and eggs. You don't want to have something heavy on your stomach for the mission.

"So, what else do you know about the tournament?"

He stops chewing, swallows his food, and takes a large drink from his cup. "I gotta tell you, I've never seen anything like this before. Not in my entire life."

You blink, surprised by his response. "What do you mean? It's just a big tournament.

He sets down the fork and knife, and grabs another swig. "Maybe I'm just a little tipsy, but it seems odd to me. Why do this now? The exams serve a purpose in testing new shinobi, and are a long-time tradition. But this is just a tournament with a prize among all the nations. Why would everyone, including the weakened Mist, put resources into this right now?"

You shrug. "Maybe it'll help make a lot of revenue back. Like a regular event."

He folds his hands over themselves, and watches you behind them. "Think about it like this. While the situation in the Mist has calmed down a lot since the initial conflicts, the general populace still took heavy losses. Not just the Mist, but the surrounding areas. The refugees from the conflict between the two factions spreading to the outskirts of other nations fostered additional increases in crime rates. Population density was already becoming a bit of an issue even before that."

You nod. "Right. We know all about that. While the world is more advanced than ever, in some ways it's more difficult for common men."

Hanto nods. "We hold all of the power. Shinobi. The Mist's government eventually managed to largely quell the rebel threat, but the divide between the state and the people still caused a huge amount of damage. I think this tournament, this series of displays of power, are meant to intimidate smaller nations, rogue shinobi, and the non-shinobi population. Ninja are synonymous with our government. With most of the world governments working together these days, Ninja have absolute control."

He leans back, finishes off his drink, and sets it down on the table. You chuckle. "Hanto... I don't think it really all goes that deep. People love how the final stage of the exams is a big show. There's nothing wrong with government sponsored entertainment."

Hanto shrugs. "Probably not, yeah. It's a good thing for us, anyways. But still. Wouldn't all these ninja be put to better use, elsewhere?"

Hanto smirks. "I don't know if you've noticed, but that doesn't really matter a whole lot these days. The strongest shinobi of each village are public figures. It's like saying 'fight us, we dare you'. "

You raise an eyebrow. "What do you mean? Gathering information is what being a shinobi is all about."

He chuckles. "Maybe for you. You're one of the few examples of that left. What about everyone else? They're not ninja. They're monsters, superhumans beyond reason. I'm one of those monsters, so I know the difference."

You take a few more bites of your breakfast, mulling over his words. "Do you know anything about the people who have already been selected?"

He pulls out a cigarette, and lights it. Taking in long drags, he nods. "Yeah. I gotta be honest kid. I thought you had a slim shot during the Chunin Exams, and it was something I turned out to be right on. But this upcoming fight is a different story altogether. These aren't the same novices you fought back then. They've grown, much like you have. I know of five confirmed foreign participants. I think the only one you met is Katsuro. He's the Kazekage's Nephew, and son of the leader of the Puppet Corps. Oh, Kagasi is joining as well. She's the girl with the puppet armor."

You groan. "Yeah, those two are probably pretty tough by now."

Hanto ashes into his empty glass. "There's a few others of note, but I won't waste time telling you about them. Because I already know who the tournament's victor is going to be."

You look up. "Really? You're that confident he could beat anyone? Even Sarada or Katsuro?"

He slowly nods. "Yeah. His name is Ryuken. I don't think even I could beat him in a head on fight, even though he's just a Chunin. His destructive potential is that high."

You set down your drink, and give your sensei a funny look. "That's impossible. You're as strong as a tailed beast, Sensei."

Hanto's face doesn't flinch, as he looks at you and takes another long drag. "I guess you could say that."

"So, what is he? A Jinchuriki?"

Hanto nods. "That's one part of it. You know the deal. Massive chakra pool, regeneration, unlimited stamina. Turns into a deranged demon if you corner him. But then there's the talent, man. He's like if Shozuku had never gotten fucked up. Just pure genius, through and through. Then, physically? He's as gifted as Kichiro, physically. But he's smart like you, too. You have to rate him 100 in all areas."

After you finish your food, you push your plate away and sigh. "Well, I guess it doesn't make a difference. I'll just have to try to beat anyone who gets in my way."

Remember when Kichiro used Fire release to empower himself back in the Chunin exam? I want to try that with Boil release, make our own Venom. Take a page from Fallout, if you can't beat them, get high as a kite.

As you're heading back to your room for a moment, Kichiro is coming out of his. You step over, smiling. "Hey. I was wondering if you wanted to check out the town, kill a little time before the mission itself starts. You up for it?"

He nods. "Sounds good. There could be something for us to do when we have more time."

It's a short ride back. On the way you discuss various applications of Dragon Boxing, and different methods Kichiro uses for better control of his dashes. Apparently the key is to slowly ramp up the amount of power you're comfortable with handling on the fly. At the current moment, you can shift yourself a couple of feet in a different direction as you're falling. Eventually, you should be able to dash around several times in the air.

Combining that with the air-dash that your Jet Sheath provides could make you quite unpredictable in short bursts. This would make competing with someone who can maneuver on your level of speed considerably easier.

The two of you get to town, and begin to explore. There are various locally owned shops and businesses, and you have a good time looking at the various trinkets. Kichiro even buys his little sister a small doll as a gift.

You can't exactly find anything you think your brother would use, so you hold off on it. He's a pretty simple guy who doesn't really collect much. Unless you could find an electronics store around here, but that seems doubtful.

As you're looking around the small shop, the bell in the door rings as someone enters. Both you and Kichiro look up, and are shocked at who it is.

It's Nyoko, herself. The white haired beauty gracefully strolls into the shop, as if she owned it. She could, for all you know. She spots you and Kichiro, and a wide grin goes across her face. She's grown with age as you have, being only an inch or so shorter than you. She's dressed in a long white coat, with stylish winter boots. She marches over, and pulls you close in a hug. "Takeshi! It's been so long!"

She pulls away, pushing you back slightly on the chest. Things are happening so quickly it takes a moment for you to respond. "Yeah, it sure has. It's good to see you, miss Yukikage."

She laughs boisterously, waving you off as Kichiro steps next to you. "Oh, please. Just call me Nyoko. I really don't care for that title at all, I think it's quite a joke."

Kichiro raises an eyebrow. "Is it good for you to be walking around unguarded?"

She shakes her head, white hair flowing. "Oh, no one would dare. While our people are new to the life of a Shinobi nation, they've been ruled by a monarchy for many years. As the daughter of the queen, they're quite accepting of my role."

Normally I like to lurk but after hearing the name Ryuken I kinda feel like I should say that's the name of a technique I created for a Jonin character of mine on a Naruto rp discord server, the Dragon Fist which was comparible to the Chidori but different in that it used Fire instead of Lightning and was like a hammer instead of a blade.

"What are you doing out here?" you ask, curious.

She grins. "Just looking around. Normally I'm travelling all over the country, helping people and stopping crimes. But since my presence is required for the mission, later, I'm restricted to this area. Too bad, so sad. Though these little shops are rather cute. What about you two? What do you think of the Snow so far?"

Kichiro shrugs. "It's small, but peaceful. I'm surprised that we haven't seen many soldiers or defenses outside of the castle. Aren't you guys worried about invaders?"

Nyoko smiles. "Oh, I welcome them with open arms."

As you're looking at the young girl your age smile, a strange feeling crawls up your back. It's as if, through her gleeful smile, a shred of the hidden malice she possesses slips through. You've often been wondering about Nyoko's odd, flighty demeanor since you met her. Not even the most talented Shinobi seemed so carefree.

You gulp. You're glad she happens to like you. She sees you looking at her funnily. "Takeshi, you're wondering about how strong I am, aren't you? I recognize that look on your face, many times when you were watching the exams. It's a mixture of fear and excitement."

She slides around you, and puts her hands on your shoulders before whispering. "You don't have anything to worry about. We shouldn't ever have to fight."

Nyoko moves back around you, and starts to strut away. "Well, would you two like to accompany me back?"

Kichiro walks forward, but you remain still for a moment longer. You'd be lying if you said you didn't have the urge to throw down right now. But you suppress it, and follow her back with Kichiro.

The train ride is uneventful, although this time you're brought to a luxury cart. This time the whole section of the train is a comfortable little room just for Nyoko and her company. She tells you about various towns and cities in the country, and her favorite places to visit.

You three return to the castle, and meet in the main hall.

Hanto and Ai were waiting for you. Your group stands together, while Nyoko struts along to the second throne in the room. She takes a seat next to her mother, Koyuki. From what you understand, Naruto once helped this nation when it was in crisis, when he was a Genin. Sasuke, Sakura, and Sasuke all played crucial parts as well.

Kyuki begins speaking. There are several armored guards in the room.

"Thank you four for coming here today. From what my daughter has told me, your squad should be particularly helpful in a matter of research and development."

Moments later, you're visited by a shocking guest. Kasagi of the hidden sand steps into the room, wearing more modest clothing than usual. Her sandy blonde hair is tied back in a short ponytail, and you see her mechanical eye scan the room fervently. She turns as she stands next to the throne. "Hello, everyone. We've all met before. You're here to help me test some equipment the Sand and Snow have developed in tandem."

You clench your fist. It's tough having to hide what you know about the tournament. After this mission, you desperately wish to ask her about it. Regardless, for now you take a deep breath and focus on what's in front of you.

She holds out her hand. "Come on in, Anzai."

The first thing you see, is not Anzai.

It's the colossal wolf from before, except now, it's covered in a sleek, black armor. The polished metal reflects the various lights in the room, and the visor/helm covers it's eyes and ears. There is light plating on it's limbs and side, and it's belly is exposed. On the chest there is a red and blue ying/yang symbol.

Moments later, follows who you presume to be Anzai. He's in a similar, jet black armor. It seems to be a huge upgrade over Kasagi's designs. It makes him considerably larger, standing as tall as Kichiro. You can see exhaust ports for rocket thrust on the back, and gun barrels on the arms.

Again, is the red and blue ying/yang symbol on the chest.

Kasagi snaps, and one of the guards steps from across the room to face Anzai and his wolf. "Observe. The Snow's chakra absorbing armor combined with my puppetry designs."

The guard releases Fireball Jutsu, and sure enough an invisible around the field completely negates the attack. The only indication is the noise, and the air seeming to ripple and bend under the force.

Anzai holds his arm up, and points one of the twin gun barrels at the soldier. A single shot fires, and there's a bright flash at the point of impact, as well as a deafening sound. It's as if it fired flashbang.

It takes a few moments for everyone to recover. As you look on, the mechanical warrior's arms open up to reveal a number of various bullet types. Poisons, bombs, bullets, and nonlethal armaments. "It's all operated by an electromagnetic firing system, neurologically connected to the pilot's brain. As long as they have a lightning nature chakra, they can learn to operate the machine as naturally as they would their own bodies. I want you three to give it your all against Anzai and his wolf."

The black knight and his mount turn towards your group. Hanto has backed off to the wall, and has acquired a large mug of eggnog. "This is gonna be good."

You look to Kichiro and Ai, who both shrug. Looks like it's up to you to come up for ideas.

You take a step back.

"So, we're just supposed to fight Anzai?"

Kasagi responds. "That's right. You three are all quite capable, and creative. Your fighting styles are rather distinct. This is a good chance to see how the armor can respond to non-traditional threats."

You nod, looking to Kichiro and Ai. They both nod in response to you.

You look up to her. "Well, I guess we're ready to go then."

Kichiro blinks. "Wait, we're doing it here? Inside the castle?"

Kasagi looks Kichiro up and down, and then looks at her mechanical armor. She strokes her sharp chin briefly. "You might have a point. We can move outside to the forests, if that isn't a problem."

Nyoko, the acting Yukikage, just shrugs and smiles. "I like it outside more anyway."

Her mother, Kyuki, sighs. "I'm staying inside. I'll call the advisers to join you, Nyoko."

She waves. "Thanks mom!"

The operation is relocated to the forests, not very far from where you were training yesterday.

You, Kichiro, and Ai are all standing in a snowy field enclosed by tall pine trees. The mechanical menace and it's wolf are standing a good distance away. Hanto steps next to you, drinking from his mug. "Alright, kids. I've never seen something like this before so I don't really have any advice for ya. But from what I can tell, that armor doesn't have any special protections against Taijutsu."

Had to take care of some stuff real quick, update is on it's way

The three of you watch the armored wolf and it's owner carefully.

"I'll try to draw it's fire with speed. You guys find an opening."

Your teammates give you a thumbs up, and stand quietly as you start to take steps forward. Taking slow, deep breaths of the winter air, you prepare yourself. Drawing out all of your concentration, you step lightly on your feet in a rhythm. As Anzai sees you start to step quicker, he holds up the arm of the mech.

It begins to rapid-fire senbon from it's wrist mounted launchers.

Dashing to the right, you zig zag across the field rapidly. You're able to outpace the trail of needles falling in the snow behind you, but as you're running, the armored wolf's maw suddenly appears in front of you.

You skid to a stop, shocked. You've never seen a creature that large move this quickly. It's not just a large wolf, but a summoned animal of some kind. You'll have to keep an eye out on what it can do.

The jaws snap shut just as you leap away. The wolf is about to jump and pursue you, but Kichiro gives it a running dropkick. He accidentally uses his Dragon Boxing to make it an explosive kick, and the wolf's armor absorbs the blow.

Kichiro is knocked away, and rolls to his feet. The wolf turns to face him, growling. Looking ahead, you can see Ai is now running circles around Anzai as well.

You dash ahead of Kichiro, and join her. Leaping forward, you throw several kunai at his helmet. They bounce off harmlessly, but draw his attention long enough for Ai to dash in.

She holds out an explosive tag, and attempts to plant it on the mech's armor. The paper is distorted and destroyed as it enters the chakra absorption field's range, however.

Ai flips off of the top of the mech, and bounds next to you. The two of you stand side by side for a moment, while Anzai lines up his wrist mounted launchers.

Behind you, Kichiro's thunderous blows can be heard against the wolf's armor. It seems he's got it preoccupied for now.

Looking at Anzai, you start to think of more complex strategy to deal with the situation.

The armor is obviously thick enough to deflect Taijutsu, even from your iron hard knuckles. It can absorb any Chakra based attack, as well. But does it have a limit? Or a weakness?

Your eyes narrow.

I don't think Genjutsu will work as it sends a stream of chakra out, may well get absorbed. Better to test it with a less costly jutsu, like false place or false sound.

Taking a deep breath, you prepare to reorganize your strategy.

"Ai. I'm going to use my Summoning Jutsu. Let's treat this like Boruto and Sarada."

She nods, staring at Anzai. "Right. I'll circle around."

Off at the edge of the field, Nyoko and her various advisers are standing with Hanto and watching the match. Kasagi is now clothed in a very heavy black coat, and taking notes on a tablet. Hanto takes a sip of his drink. "This armor is pretty tough."

Nyoko chuckles. "I broke one in about a minute. They're doing okay I think, though."

Kasagi grumbles. "You're hardly fair, Miss Yukikage. You're the strongest woman in the nation. They're simply Chunin. It's only natural that you'd make an easy time of it."

She shrugs, and hums. "I suppose. I wonder what Takeshi has learned in these last.."

You slam your bloodied palm onto the ground, and a great eruption of smoke is blown away to reveal your feathered ally, Majima. The colossal owl stares down at the comparatively small mech, and narrows it's eyes. "What's this..? A life sized action figure?"

You leap onto his head, flipping your goggles on and trying to explain the situation as quickly as you can. "Mission. Target. Dangerous! Absorbs Ninjutsu and possibly Genjutsu!"

Majima's wings expand, blowing away much of the snow in the surrounding area. With a single flap, he takes off into the air. Spinning, he casts Wind Release: Great Task of the Dragon. The clouds above the mech darken briefly, before a tornado lashes out like a tentacle from the sky.

The chakra field promptly absorbs the would-be destructive attack, and Anzai holds up his arm and aims. This time, a crosshair expands off of the arm of the machine, as well as a grip for the other hand to keep it steady. The barrel lengthens from within, and becomes more of a cannon. An exhaust port in the arm becomes alight with blue flame as chakra is expelled furiously, preceding a thunderous crack as a shot is fired.

Thankfully, Majima does a barrel roll and narrowly avoids the shot. If you had to guess, it was some kind of small cannonball. Hopefully not an explosive.

"Majima! We have to go back down! He's gonna shoot us out of the sky!"

He responds, this time using False Sound inside your mind. "I apologize. I wanted to see this new technology in action for myself. I'm on it."

He swoops down, this time unleashing a machine-gun esque rain of feathers as he does so. The steel sharp feathers riddle the battlefield, before striking the machine. The majority of them simply bounce off, but a few scratch and even embed themselves in the machine's surface.

As it's being attacked, Anzai raises up his forearm. He's preparing another shot at the approaching Majima. However, from behind his sensors detect a rapidly approaching object.

He whips around, the mechanics of the suit whirring. Ai is rushing him down directly, a Chidori held in one hand. She leaps in to deliver the strike as he's turning, but he's able to outpace her.

Anzai holds his arm up and fires a rapid series of kunai into her midsection. The second the first one hits, however, Ai explodes in a burst of lightning.

The armor absorbs the blast, but he's monetarily blinded. As it's absorbing the shock, the real Ai leaps through the light to deliver a Chidori to the chest of the armor. It seems to somewhat pierce the absorption field, and is struggling against it. She lands, digging her feet into the dirt and pushing as hard as she can. Her long black hair is blown back, and she screws her eyes shut from the force of the distortion.

"Majima!! Go!!"

The owl tucks it's wings in close as it's diving, greatly increasing it's speed. It carefully uses it's wings to slightly adjust the path, swooping in from the side at high speed to ram into the armor.

Ai is blasted back, and Anzai is sent hurtling at top speeds from the ground into the trees beyond. You haven't seen anyone get hit like that in a long, long time.

You pat the owl's back, and turn to look over at Kichiro. He seems a bit worse for wear against the armored wolf summon.

He's pinned on the ground, and there's blood all around him. He's just barely holding back the monster's snapping jaws.
