> Welcome to my Dragon Ball quest!
> You’ll be playing a human at the start of Dragon Ball, and the quest will follow your adventures up through DBZ and beyond.
> The beginning of the quest will be fairly similar to early Dragon Ball, but further down the line the changes in canon will become more apparent. Although I have changed a few things regarding canon, most of those won’t become apparent or relevant for a long while.
> Rolls will be done primarily using 1d100, Bo3 because I’m not particularly creative when it comes to mechanics.
> Have fun, and please, cut me a little bit of slack if I make any mistakes, this is my first quest.

Born and raised in Gingertown, a suburb outside of West City, you’ve had a pretty boring, ordinary life so far. You have ordinary parents who work ordinary jobs, an ordinary older sister who’s away going to college in Central Capitol, and completely ordinary friends. Despite that, you’ve always yearned for more out of life, a desire for adventure that has never gone away, even as you’ve matured from a child to a teenager, and even started school in the big city, attending West City High. Now sixteen years old, your boring life hasn’t changed all that much. You are completely unaware that your life will soon be changed completely, and you’ll never be able to go back to the boring, simple life you’d grown up in before. However for now, you’re still just another ordinary high school student, although there is one thing that sets you apart from the rest of your class.

You started rebelling and acting out against your parents when you were about twelve, often sneaking out of your home and taking trips to the city. You started smoking and drinking, primarily because you knew it would upset your parents. Entering West City High only increased your delinquent behavior, before going to school in Gingertown, you were definitively the biggest delinquent in your town. Now, you were in a huge high school in an even larger city, and you were practically a monk compared to some of your classmates. You started acting out more and more, soon forming bonds and connections with the other delinquents of your school, and soon enough, you were one of the primary troublemakers of the school. You wreaked havoc over every classroom you entered, and every lowerclassman trembled at the sight of you walking through the halls. That is, when you even bothered to show up for school.

Today happened to be one of those days. You're walking the long road to your high school, you could take the bus, but along with the near-daily fights you get into, this is part of the exercise routine which keeps you in good shape. Not to mention, you wouldn't be caught dead riding the bus with the rest of the losers in your class. You're only a second-year student, but even so, you've already established yourself as pretty high up in the hierarchy of West City High. However, even with that being the case, there are always exceptions. Some people are just too stubborn, or stupid, to respect their superiors, so sometimes you need to prove yourself and beat people back into line. Even still, fighting other high schoolers and robbing them of lunch money isn't exactly the high adventure you'd hoped for as a kid. It's better than nothing, that's for sure, but a part of you still can't help but be dissatisfied with it.

You're so engrossed in your introspection that, without even looking, you bump directly into a woman approaching from another direction. She's also distracted, too focused on some sort of small device in her hands to see you before it's too late, and you're both tumbling to the ground. You quickly scramble to your feet before turning to look at who dared to get in your way in a flash of anger. You recognize her as one of your own classmates, Bulma Brief. She's the rich heiress of the Capsule Corporation, and one of the few students in class that still refuses to respect you. She's still on her hands and knees, desperately trying to gather the things she dropped. Mostly what appears to be school work and makeup, but also, more interestingly, a small round, hand-held device and a shiny, orange orb. As she gathers her things and stumbles to her feet, she glares up at you. "How about you watch where you're going next time, buster?"

Your eyes go wide as you look back at Bulma, and for a moment you freeze in place, feeling your cheeks begin to flush. You may act like a no-nonsense delinquent, but the fact is, you're really not all that experienced with girls. Sure, you've gotten into plenty of fights, stolen lots of things, and done plenty of illegal things in your days, but most girls in your class don't really want to date a troublemaker like you, and even if they did, most of them are too scared of you for you to even have a proper conversation. As a result, you've never had much of a chance to practice talking to them, leaving you pretty unprepared for a moment like this. You rack your brain, attempting to think of some way to impress her while she glares at you, arms still overfilled with her possessions she'd dropped onto the sidewalk.

Suddenly, an idea pops in your head, and you reach out, plucking the orange orb from her arms. "Hey! Give that back!" She cries, but she's too busy holding her other stuff to forcefully grab it back, and as you turn away, you know you've bought yourself a few seconds to think of a cool line to totally impress her. She struggles to put her things back into her bag while you think of something, and just as she frees her arms and storms over to you, you turn back, forcing a smirk onto your face and trying your best to look as confident and casual as you can while she looks absolutely furious and storms over to you. You hold up the ball and chuckle, "Heh, a pretty girl like you should know better than to walk alone with such expensive looking things, especially when..." you pause for dramatic effect before shifting into a totally badass pose, holding up the strange, expensive looking orb. "It's the territory of a master delinquent!"

Bulma stares at you for a few seconds, with an unreadable expression, before she stomps forward and slaps you right across the face. "That was so lame! You'd better give me my Dragon Ball back, or else!" She stomps her feet, pouting up at your furiously, reaching for the orb that is apparently a Dragon Ball, but you hold it up out of her reach, rubbing your cheek, now red not from your blushing but from her handprint. She may have wounded your pride, but at the very least, you're still taller than her.

>Ask what a Dragon Ball is.

"What the hell's a Dragon Ball?" You ask, peering at the weird looking ball. The sun shines through the orange ball, and you notice a pair of small red stars marking the orb's surface. It looks shiny and expensive, but you can't really think of any practical purpose for it. Is it just decorative? If that's the case, it sure is pretty tacky. She rolls her eyes and crosses her arms over her chest. "And just why exactly should I tell a brute like you?" She asks, turning her nose up at you in a show of defiance. You shrug, "I'm the one holding it." A smirk crosses her face, as she reaches into her pocket and pulls out the small, handheld device she'd been looking at earlier. "Yeah, but that's useless unless you have the other ones. And the only way to find the other ones is through this little beauty!" She holds up the device and sticks her tongue out at you in a sign of victory. You tap your chin, "But that also means it's useless for you unless you have this one then, right?"

The arrogant glee drains from her face instantly, and she lets out a few curses as she stomps a few paces away from you. "Damnit!" Then, as if she wasn't throwing a borderline temper tantrum a moment ago, she turns back towards you, seemingly calm again. "I guess, it wouldn't be too bad to have some protection..." She seems lost in thought for a while before her demeanor suddenly changes again, and she shoots you a flirtatious glance and a wink, "Well, you're a pretty good fighter, right?"

You try to hide your blush and play it cool, running a hand through your slicked back hair and shrugging, "I mean, I'm pretty strong, I guess..." Then, suddenly, she's all business again and nods. "That settles it then! You come with me as my bodyguard and help me find the Dragon Balls." You blink, she didn't want anything to do with you a moment ago, but now she's completely willing to cooperate. "You still haven't told me what they are yet." You remind her, trying your best not to get swept away by the idea of spending all this time with Bulma.

"Oh, right! Well, the Dragon Balls are mystical objects, there are seven of them scattered around the globe, and whenever they're brought together, they summon the Eternal Dragon, who is said to grant the wishes of whoever found them all!" You look down at the orb in your hand, sure it looked expensive, but you couldn't imagine so much power and magic packed into such a small looking package. As you're looking at it, Bulma snatches the Ball back, putting it in her bag. "I've found this one in my basement, and then I built the Dragon Radar so we can track the others down. So, are you in?" She asks, giving you a look that causes your heart to skip a beat.

>Agree, but only if you get some of that sweet CapsuleCorp cash

You rub your chin, doing your best to look as skeptical as possible. Really, you'd more or less already decided you were going to join her the moment she started talking about what she was doing, but you know that if you seem less sure about your decision, you could probably squeeze more zeni from her, and knowing how loaded her family is, you're pretty sure you can make a pretty penny from this gig. Especially since you doubt protecting some pampered rich girl like Bulma will be that bad, she probably has capsules to get her everywhere she needs to go, plus she'll probably just give up on this whole quest after a little while to go back to her big mansion. "Well, I guess I could help you out. But, y'know, it would cost me a lot to just drop everything and be your bodyguard. I'd expect something in return."

She blinks, before blushing furiously. "I'm not that type of girl, no matter how strong you are!" She shouts, slapping you a second time, across the opposite side of your face. "I didn't mean that!" You groan, rubbing your sore cheek. "I meant zeni, obviously! Doesn't your family run Capsule Corp?" She laughs, brushing off any concerns. "Oh, of course! Don't worry about that, I'm sure my dad will pay you whatever I ask him to."

She holds out her hand, "So it's settled then, partners?" You glance at her, then take hold of her hand. "Only if it means you stop slapping me." She giggles, "No promises!" Then, reaches into her bag, pulling out a small case with the Capsule Corp logo on it. Of course, living so close to West City, you can't go anywhere without seeing that logo plastered on everything. She pulls a capsule out of the case, before tossing it onto the pavement. A cloud of smoke erupts from the capsule, before fading away, and in it's place, a small, two-seater wheeled car.

She climbs into the driver's seat, before looking out at you. "Climb in!"

>Ask where the nearest Dragon Ball is.

You nod, walking over towards the passenger side of the car and climbing in. It's a decent looking vehicle, but it's notably pretty small, and you immediately feel the constraints of the tight space, especially as you're instantly fully aware of how close you are to Bulma, sat side by side as the two of you are. Attempting to keep your cool, you desperately push your mind towards anything else, and you attempt to focus on the current mission instead.

"So, what's the closest of these things?" You ask, turning towards Bulma as she starts driving towards the outside edge of the city. She takes her eyes off the road for a moment, but doing so for only a second nearly sends the car careening directly into oncoming traffic. "Watch the road!" You cry, desperately clinging on for dear life as she looks up and rights the car, giggling loudly. "Oops! Well, the Dragon Radar's in my bag. You wanna check it for me?" You nod, looking down and seeing her bag is down underneath her seat, between her legs.

You gulp, reaching your arm between her soft, porcelain toned legs, trying your best to keep your composure. You still have something of a reputation to maintain, after all. You reach slowly into the bag, plucking the Dragon Radar from within. On closer inspection, it's actually pretty high-tech looking, and you have to admit that it's pretty impressive that Bulma managed to invent something like this. Even though she acts ditzy, she must actually be pretty smart on some level or another.

The Radar is primarily a circular green screen, with a flashing red arrow in the middle, which you can assume represents you. Several glowing yellow dots on the grid seem to indicate the location of the Dragon Balls. It takes a few seconds for you to figure out how to fully read the results, but it's actually pretty intuitive once you start to figure it out. "There's two Dragon Balls that are about a days travel from here," you announce, reading the Radar as she drives. "One in North Valley, and one to the east, near Mt. Paozu."

She shrugs, "You can pick, I've never really been too far outside West City..." She admits sheepishly, and you don't tell her that you haven't really been too far outside West City either. Fact is, you've never even left the sector. But, you don't want her to know that.

"East, Mt. Paozu's gotta be nicer than North Valley, I've heard there's nothing but a wasteland up that way, and I'm not exactly interested in being dinosaur food any time soon." Bulma nods. "Sure, that sounds good!" Then, the two of you are off on your journey, Bulma's aggressive driving meaning you're outside the city limits before too long and on your way into the wilderness. It's a decently long trip to Mt. Paozu, but the car Bulma picked is fast enough that you should make it there by tomorrow or the next day so long as nothing slows you down too much.

After almost an hour of driving, Bulma turns towards you, "So, Mr. Delinquent, how tough are you really?"

You shrug, "I win more fights than I lose." Talking about fighting isn't so bad, you have some expertise with that. For once, she's fighting on your terrain, rather than hers. "I'm certainly stronger than you alone." She giggles, "Probably. But that better not be your measure for being strong, because I'm not strong, I'm very delicate. That's why I have a bodyguard, remember?" You roll your eyes. "Well, obviously. I'm just saying, I'm pretty tough, but I'm not like a martial artist or anything. I can't tell you exactly how strong I am, I just know I win a lot." She peers at you for a long while, as you do your best to seem stoic and not like you're incredibly nervous under her gaze. "I bet you're not nearly as much of a delinquent as you're pretending to be."

You glare at her and she just smirks back. "If I wasn't getting paid to protect you, I'd show you how wrong you are." You shoot back, but she refuses to back down, smirking at you defiantly. "You're putting on a front, but I bet deep down, you're actually a big softy at heart! Otherwise, why would you be helping me right now?"

>Stay silent to seem mysterious and badass

You glance over towards her, as she looks back at you with a wide smile. You decide to just keep quiet, hoping it'll make you look mysterious and cool, and hoping you don't look too nervous as you do so. The more you talk to her, the worse your nerves get. You certainly don't feel very tough at the moment, so you instead decide to turn and watch the landscape go by out the window. You've only been driving for maybe an hour or so, but the technology and civilization of West City has already started to fade into untamed wilderness. You're currently in the central plains region, and the only signs of civilization are a few lone farms or sparse settlements that dot the landscape.

After a long while of driving, the plains start to give way to desert, with great mountains and valleys stretching out across the land. Eventually, the sun starts to descend across the sky as day turns to night, and Bulma lets out a groan. "Damn! I was hoping we could get the next Dragon Ball before it gets dark." She grabs the Dragon Radar, stepping out of the car to look out at the surroundings. You'd mostly driven out of the way of Diablo Desert, and Bulma had stopped at a decent, flat campgrounds near a river. "And the next Dragon Ball is stil a ways away..." she grumbles as you climb out of your seat, stretching your legs.

"Oh well! This is a pretty nice place to camp." She says, before pulling another capsule out of her case, before tossing it down, revealing a small shelter, presumably big enough for both of you to sleep in. The two of you head inside and you look around, you can't help but be impressed. Sure, everyone knows about capsules, but you're not as rich as some of the other students at your school, so you've never had much direct experience with them. Being able to fit a whole house inside such a small package is insane to you. She giggles at your obvious bewilderment. "C'mon, I'll get food prepared for us!" All of her food supplies are kept in capsules as well, of course. You're starting to wonder if this girl keeps everything she has in capsules.

As the two of you settle down to eat, you sit in silent for a short while, and you figure you should probably think of something to talk to her about.

>Just finish eating and get to sleep.

You quickly finish eating, deciding not to ask her any questions. You don't really know her that well, and you're not sure if it's alright to get personal with her. You're technically her bodyguard, so for now, you decide to just keep things professional. You make some light smalltalk over dinner, before the two of you go to bed. There's only one bed in the capsule house she packed, but you don't exactly mind sleeping on the floor. You bid each other good night before heading to sleep.

The next morning, you're woken up when Bulma nudges you with her foot. You blink, before being assaulted by bright, blinding rays of sunlight streaming in through the windows. "Rise and shine!" She chirps, and you instantly start to regret your decision to join her on this journey. "Jeez, I thought I was a heavy sleeper." She continues. Yesterday, her voice sounded beautiful and charming, you can't stand it right now. "Well, I made coffee." She says, and the scent that confirms it is enough to get you to pull yourself out of bed. You're a delinquent of course, waking up before noon is something you almost never do.

Bulma is already completely prepared, having not only completed her own morning ritual, but even made breakfast for the two of you while you were still asleep. After a very groggy breakfast, you and Bulma pack the capsule house back into its case, before getting back into the car and continuing your trip to Mt. Paozu. Soon, the slopes and dust of Skull Valley gives way to the rocky, vertical forests of the western mountains.

As you drive further up the mountain, Bulma over. "Check the radar for me, Kazuma." You nod, pulling the small device out and taking a look. As soon as you turn it on, the beeping from the Radar is immensely loud. The Dragon Ball is nearly on-top of you at this point. Bulma grins widely, "Alright! That little jewel is as good as mine!" You nod along, really you're somewhat skeptical about the idea that these Dragon Balls even can grant wishes, but so long as you get your zeni at the end of this, you couldn't really care less.

"How are you so sure these Dragon Balls are gonna work, anyways?" You ask Bulma and she turns towards you, a furious expression across her face. "Are you kidding?! I'm the smart one here, okay, pal? I've read a lot of books and... things, okay? They'll work, just trust me." She pauses for an instant, and you hope she'll stop yelling at you, but that's a naive hope, because she doesn't even so much as look back at the road. "And anyways, if you don't even think they work, you're welcome to..." You cut her off. "Watch the road!" You cry, as some kid carrying a giant fish over his back wanders across the path. Bulma looks back but is far too late, and her car comes crashing into both the kid and the fish, sending both of them flying into a nearby tree.

"Y-yikes... is he dead?" Bulma's voice shakily asks. Her hands are clenched tight on the steering wheel, but her eyes are shut even moreso, desperate not to look. You look up to survey the damage, but to your shock, the kid is still on his feet! Not only that, but he's walking around. In fact, he's walking towards you. "He's alive!" You say, the most relieved you can remember feeling in your entire life. But, that celebration doesn't last long as the kid continues approaching.

"So, you thought you'd get rid of me?" The kid says, "Well think again! You're not gonna get my fish that easy you big monster!" He growls, before grabbing the bottom of your car and lifting it up into the air, both you and Bulma still inside. You and Bulma both scream as you're lifted into the air. "This is for hitting me!" You hear the kid's voice, before the car is sent careening through the air, smashing onto the ground on it's side.

"Quick, there's a gun in the glovebox!" Bulma shrieks, covering her eyes and ducking underneath the dashboard. You blink, "You want me to shoot him?! He looks like he's just a kid!" Bulma yells out a response, sounding completely panicked. "I don't know, you're my bodyguard! Just do something you idiot!"

"That'll teach you to try and take my fish!" The boy yells, as he reaches behind his back, pulling a red staff and holding it out in front of him. "Sneaking up on me like that... well, I'm ready for you this time!" He approaches, prodding the underside of the car with his staff as you push past Bulma and attempt to climb out the driver's side window, making sure to grab the gun and tuck it into your coat just in case.

"C'mon monster, why don't you come out of your shell and fight?" He asks, as you poke your head out of the window and stare down at him incredulously. He looks like he's maybe ten years old, and despite how angry he looks, and the fact that he just tossed Bulma's car like it was nothing, he doesn't look tough at all. "What's wrong?" He asks, "Don't tell me you used up all your power already."

You climb out of the car and jump down onto the ground. It honestly feels pretty good to be able to stretch your legs after a long journey, so you don't actually mind this opportunity, even if a kid isn't exactly the most honorable of opponent for you to beat. "Are you serious kid? That's not a monster, it's a car." You say, "But if you wanna fight, I can certainly give you one."

He grins, and drops into a fighting stance. "Monster or not, I can still beat you up!"

Just as soon as you get into a fighting stance, the kid has already started moving. He's impressively fast, and you struggle to keep him in your vision as he jumps and darts all over the place. As he does so, you notice something odd. Not only does the kid act like a monkey, he has a tail like one too. You aren't able to consider how strange that is for very long, as all of a sudden the boy jumps from out of nowhere at you, throwing a punch. "Rock," he shouts, and you manage to get your arms up to block it just in time. Even managing to block the attack as you did, you're still staggered somewhat by the overwhelming power in such a tiny body. You let your guard down just for a second, which gives him plenty of an opening.

"Scissors," He shouts, thrusting his hand forward and poking you directly in both eyes. Your hands go up to cover your eyes, and you hear his voice a third time. "Paper!" and you feel an open hand palm thrust directly to your abdomen, and you're sent flying backwards through the air. You feel several trees crack and break against the power you were sent backwards with, leaving you reeling and pretty badly bruised. You wipe your eyes, trying to get the stinging pain to go away as you struggle to get back towards your feet, while the kid continues walking towards you.

"I thought you'd be tougher, you actually managed to hurt me with that first attack, but now you're so weak!" The kid says, sounding less pissed off and more like he's just having fun. It seems like this kid's the actual monster! "If you're holding back, you can go ahead and stop right now. I want a real fight!" He's distracted from his approach when a voice suddenly cries out. "Hey, leave him alone!" You both turn and see Bulma, having climbed from the car, now reaches into her bag and throws a capsule at the boy. The capsule hits his head and bounces off, before the plume of smoke billows out around his head completely distracting him. As the smoke begins to clear, what was inside the capsule becomes evident as a small, pink hairdryer is laying on the grass near the kid's feet. You hear Bulma sheepishly stammer, "M-my capsules must have gotten mixed up, I thought that was a car..."

Still, it serves as a temporary distraction, as the boy is still coughing from the capsule smoke.

You grin, noting the opportunity you have and not missing the chance. "Take this!" You yell, as you charge at the small figure, now turned away from you. You aim to grab his tail, but the boy deftly jumps out of the way, turning back towards you. "Thought you'd sneak up on me, huh, monster?" He reaches for his pole again, aiming it towards you before dashing forwards, preparing a strike. "My grandpa warned me about evil creatures like you. This time, I'll finish you off!" He yells, and you can't help but worry that he might be right. You're saved just in time, as Bulma interrupts again.

"Wait, no! We're not monsters, we're human beings just like you are!" She cries, dashing over towards you and grabbing the raised edge of the boy's staff. He turns towards her suspiciously. "You are? Really?" He pulls his pole free of her grip and points it at her threateningly as he begins circling her slowly. "Of course I am, silly. You can see that for yourself!" She says, holding her hands up, subtly glancing over towards you to check that you're alright. The boy circles her, stepping closer to inspect her closely. "How long is this going to take?" Bulma asks, letting out an impatient sigh and crossing her arms over her chest. The boy steps back and glares at her. "Hush up! Now, maybe I buy that your friend here's a human," he says, gesturing at where you're still standing. "But, you're different. You're all scrawny and soft!"

Bulma giggles, "I'm a girl, silly. Are you saying you've never seen a girl before?" She lets down her hands and starts to bend down to look at the boy. He shakes his head, "Nope, my grandpa's the only other human being that I've ever seen." Then, he rubs the back of his head, "But grandpa told me about girls. He told me that I'm supposed to be as polite as I possibly can be to girls!" Bulma beams down at the boy, seemingly already forgetting the freakish strength and tail the boy has. "Well, your grandpa must be a very smart man!" She says, unable to contain her grin, but the boy is still not done inspecting her. "Well, he was," the boy says absently, as he circles around to Bulma's back, "But he died a long time ago." For a second, you see a flash of sympathy on Bulma's face, before she turns around and sees the boy lifting up her skirt with his pole.

She hurriedly pushes her skirt back into place and lets out a shriek. "Shame on you! What do you think you're doing?!" She cries, but the boy simply shrugs. "I was checking to see if you have a tail." Her eyes go wide, and you let out a sigh. "You can't have seriously not noticed his tail." She looks at you and shoots you a glare, but the boy interrupts. "Say, neither of you guys have tails! Did you feed them to that monster to get it to do what you want?" He asks, and you shake your head. "Normal people don't have tails, and I told you, that things a car, not a monster, kid." He blinks. "Wait, I've heard of cars! Does that mean you two are from the big city?" Bulma nods, "You got it."

His face lights up. "Then, come with me! I can show you my home and cook you dinner!" Bulma and you exchange glances, but then Bulma glances down at her Dragon Radar and gives a wide smile. "Sounds great, kid! What's the plan?" She asks, while the boy grabs the giant fish he was hauling earlier. "Well, we can have a bite to eat, then talk, then we can play together!" Bulma huffs, "If you think I'm going to do anything improper, you can forget it!" She says, incredulously, but the boy only looks up at her confused. She blushes and turns away, letting out a small "Nevermind," before following as he starts leading the two of you up the mountain.

>Ask him how he got so strong.

"So, kid, what's your name, anyways?" Bulma asks, as the two of you follow the child, who seems to show no issue carrying a fish that's at least double his size. "Goku!" he replies, "G-O-K-U! What's yours?" He asks, looking back at the two of you. "I'm Kazuma." You say, and the kid nods. "Bulma," she says, quietly, still a little embarassed from the talk earlier. The kid had really thrown her off a little bit, and as soon as she said her name, Goku bursts out laughing.

"Hey, Goku's not exactly a normal name either!" She protests, but he just keeps laughing. "Yeah, but it's not as weird as Bulma!" He gives her a wide, cheeky grin, and she just pouts. "You be quiet!" She looks towards you for some backup, but you just shrug. "The kid's kinda right." She groans, "Both of you can just shut up already!" she yells, and you wince before picking up the pace a bit, leaving her to fall behind as she glares at the two of you.

You turn towards Goku, "So, how'd you get so strong, anyways? I've been in my fair share of fights, and I've never seen anyone move so fast before, let alone a kid." He looks up at you and gives a half-shrug, with the shoulder that's not preoccupied with the giant fish. "My grandpa trained me when I was a kid so that I could fend for myself, but he also said I was always really strong for my age. I don't really know, are most people as weak as you are?" You blink. You've never been so openly and blatantly disrespected to your face before, but this is just a kid, and he said it without a hint of malice or disdain in his voice.

"I-I'm not weak! You're just freakishly strong! And besides, you got a few lucky shots, if Bulma hadn't stopped the fight, who knows what would have happened!" You try to protest, but he just laughs a little. "Whatever you say, Mr. Kazuma!"

> Ask him if he can train you. Phrase it casually, like you just want him to show you a few moves... imagine if you fought like this twerp, you'd basically own the city!
> Ask if his Grandpa gave him any scrolls to remember him by.

You run a hand through your hair, struggling to keep your damaged pride under control. If this kid was anyone else, there's no way you'd let him get away with acting like this, but... not only do you know for a fact he could crush you if he really wanted to, he also seems so innocent.

"Say, Goku," you ask, trying to sound as casual as possible. "You don't think you could... show me a few of those moves you got there?"

He looks back at you and gives you a grin. "Sure! I dunno if I'll be that good of a teacher, but I can try! Most of the time, fighting just comes naturally to me, y'know?"

Jeez, this kid seems more and more bizarre every second. "No big deal, y'know. Maybe I can teach you a few moves of my own." You try to play it off casually, but you know you don't have any moves to teach him. You're not a fancy martial artists with techniques and special attacks.

"Anyways," you change the subject, "Your Grandpa... did he, uh... leave anything for you to remember him by? Any ancient scrolls or... instruction manuals?"

Goku thinks for a good few seconds, "Hmm..." he seems to consider it for just long enough for you to start to get your hopes up, before dashing them. "Nope! We never really had all that much to begin with, all he left me was his special ball."

You pause for a second, but before you can question any further, you arrive at a peak of Mt. Paozu, where you can see a small hut standing in a clearing, a stack of freshly chopped wood nearby. Goku steps ahead, approaching the entrance as Bulma catches up to the two of you from behind.

"Wow, this is a pretty nice place you got here, kid." Bulma says, as the two of you watch Goku toss the giant fish aside as if it were weightless, before pushing open the door to the hut.

"Gee, thanks," he responds, "Just wait here, I gotta check something!" He says, before stepping inside, giving the two of you a view into the inside of the hut. Standing right in plain view, on a pedastal pressed up against the back wall of the home, was unmistakeably, a Dragon Ball, shimmering and letting off a strange hum. "Grandpa's trying to talk to me..." he says, in amazement.

"That's a Dragon Ball!" Bulma shouts, before shoving Goku out of the way and plucking it off the pedastal, a greedy look across her face as she holds the precious gem up in the light.

"Hey, give me my Grandpa back!" Goku cries, grabbing for the ball, but Bulma steps away, grabbing your arm and pulling you closer to her. Oh right, you're supposed to be her bodyguard.

>Tell Goku about the Dragon Balls.

"Calm down, kid!" You say quickly, hoping you can convince Goku to let you take the ball before he decides he's just sick of the two of you altogether. He seems way too innocent to do anything to really hurt you, but you've already felt his strength before. "It's not your Grandpa, it's called a Dragon Ball."

"No way! It's the only thing my Grandpa left me to remember him by, no one but me's allowed to touch it!" He yells, before jumping up and snatching the ball out of Bulma's hands. "Look, it's glowing! I think he's trying to talk to me."

Actually, that does give you an idea. "Hold on," you turn towards Bulma, "Give me the other one!" She blinks, but doesn't question it, reaching into her bag and handing you the two-star Dragon Ball. You hold it close to the one Goku's holding, and they both start glowing and humming even more when held next to each other. "See?" You say, "It's matching. They're glowing because they're reacting to being close to each other, I bet."

Goku's eyes go wide. "Huh? Where'd you get that one?"

You shrug, "She found it. Like I said, they're called Dragon Balls. There's apparently seven of these things around the world, and once you find all of them, you get a wish." Then, you rub the back of your head, "Y'know, if you really wanted to talk to your Grandpa, we could use the Dragon Balls for that wish."

Goku's face lights up even more. "Wait, really?!" But then, he taps his chin, and narrows his eyes in suspicion. "Then, why didn't my Grandpa tell me any of this stuff?"

"Truth is, we're some of the few people that know about this." Bulma chimes in, "Not that many people do. The few that have heard of the Dragon Balls or the Dragon mostly just write it off as a myth, y'know?"

Goku nods, slowly. "Well, I guess that's okay... Just, don't get mine mixed up with yours!"

Bulma giggles again, "You can't, silly. Each Dragon Ball has a specific number of stars on it. Ours only has two, while yours has four!"

You nod, before crouching down and holding a hand out to Goku. "What do you say, wanna join us?"

Goku thinks on it for a second, before breaking out into a wide grin. "Sure, sounds like fun! I like you Mr. Kazuma, you're a lot nicer than Bulma over there!" He takes your hand and shakes it vigorously, while you try not to let the excrutiating pain from the handshake show on your face.

"Well, that settles it!" Bulma says, but then, she looks around, a strange expression on her face. "Look, I need to... do some things. You boys stay here, I'll be right back!" Then, before you can ask anything, she rushes off into the woods. You and Goku are left standing outside his hut.

"You wanted me to teach you stuff, right?" Goku chirps up, "Well, we have free time now! What did you wanna learn?"

An actual technique is useful but you should have plenty of chances to see it in action and thus copy it. Hitting hard is also fine but if you can move fast you can easily dodge and hit your opponent more often.

>Learn how he moves so fast.

You ponder for a few seconds what you might want to learn from this kid. He's clearly got something to teach you, you just have to be able to figure out exactly how to get that knowledge out of him. There must be some sorta secret that explains why he's so freakishly strong. "Well," you finally decide, "How about we work on speed? Like, how the hell do you move so fast? It's insane!" If you could move even half as fast as Goku can, there wouldn't be a single upperclassman tough enough to stop you.

He just grins up at you, "Yeah, you are really slow! Although, I guess maybe most humans are slow, come to think of it. Grandpa Gohan was always saying I was too fast for him." Your heart starts to sink. Is this kid just naturally amazing at all this stuff? Is there nothing he can teach you? "Yeah, I guess I can show you the exercises we did to get my speed up."

"Yeah?" You're excited and reinvigorated now! With this kids strength, you'll do more than just name yourself the King of West City High, you could claim the entire West City! "What are they?"

Goku just laughs, before he takes off at full speed in another direction, hopping and jumping along the trees as he does so. "C'mon, follow me!" He yells back towards you, as he blurs off into the distance. Is this the training, or is he just leading you towards the training grounds? Either way, you figure you don't have any alternatives, so you start running after him as fast as you can.

>[Stamina Increased!]

You start taking off after Goku, doing your best to keep the boy's spiky hair and bouncing tail within your view. He's much faster than you, but you're surprised how long you manage to keep running at top speed. You're actually in better shape than you thought. Still, not only is he faster than you, you don't think he ever gets tired, so before too long, you start slowing as your legs start to feel heavier and heavier. Goku disappears behind thick trees and brush, leaving you to follow and attempt to find him again, while still slowing down and running out of energy.

You'd almost given up hope on catching back up to Goku, you suddenly hear the sound of his laughing once again, but this time heavy footsteps accompanying it. You've seen Goku, and for as powerful as he is, there's no way he's making those footsteps. You prepare for battle, only for Goku to emerge from the foliage, pursued by a dangerous sabretooth tiger. Your eyes go wide, and you take off running alongside Goku.

"Is this your idea of training?!" You ask, in between deep breaths, while you attempt to keep up with Goku, who doesn't seem to show any signs of concern at the predator pursuing the both of you.

"Don't worry! My Grandpa always said, you run faster when there's something chasing you!" Goku says, who doesn't seem at all tired so far. It's like he never runs out of energy!

>Attempt to outrun the tiger.

You think about trying to hide, or even stopping to fight the tiger, but you decide that there's no way you can possibly fight a tiger head-on. Goku's the one that's been living out in the wilderness for so long, so you decide to just follow his lead and try as desperately as possible to keep up with him, as well as ahead of the tiger.

Goku blazes a path well off the beaten trail as he dashes and jumps through the forest with a grace and ease you can't even begin to come close to matching. However, you're suprised by how well you're managing to keep up with him. Perhaps it's entirely the adrenaline, but you suppose, in a way, Goku's training really is working.

Still, as you run, the tiger keeps a close tail on you, nearly catching you multiple times. Maybe Goku can navigate this with ease, but right about now, you're missing the comforts of West City, the town you had thought was unbareably boring while you were living there. Now, of course, you'd do anything for the semblance of boring. You look back, seeing the tiger gaining on you. You need to dig in deep to find the energy to keep pushing yourself...

Apologies for the delay, something came up and kept me busy all day yesterday.

You have to dig deep to find anymore energy to keep going, but shockingly enough, you tap into a wealth of stamina you didn't even know you had. With that burst of energy, you're able to close the growing gap between you and Goku, as well as putting some good distance between you and the pursuing predator.

"Hey, you're doing good!" Goku says, laughing. "See? You're almost as fast as me, now!"

You take stock of your surroundings, (as well as you can while fleeing at top speed from a sabretooth tiger,) and you're somewhat shocked to admit that Goku's right. The trees are blurring past as you push yourself further than you could go. You didn't think it was even humanly possible to run that fast, but you suppose adrenaline and fear can inspire some incredible things.

"Almost there!" You hear Goku shout from ahead of you, before you see the thick brush of the forest disappear out into wide open sky, and Goku suddenly vanishes. You realize that directly in front of you is a steep cliff leading into a deep, deep ravine. At the very last second, you leap to the side, narrowly avoiding plummeting to your seeming death, but you cannot say the same for the sabertooth tiger, who doesn't recognize the sheer cliff before he's already run far past it.

Goku laughs to himself as the tiger falls into the ravine, before turning back to you, where you're near doubled over, trying to catch your breath. "That's what Grandpa and I used to do all the time! So, you feeling faster now?"

As you finally feel like you actually have oxygen in your lungs, you look over to the child. "I mostly just feel tired..." You mutter, but you have to admit, the speed and stamina you managed to tap into was pretty damn impressive. If you can only run that fast when you're not being chased, there wouldn't be a single person in West City that could stand up to you! For now though, you can see the sun beginning to sink across the sky, and you've run pretty far from Goku's hut, so Bulma might be wondering where the two of you are. "We should probably head back," you say.

"Really?" Goku asks, looking a little disappointed. "I was just getting warmed up, you don't wanna train some more?" Your eyes go wide as you realize Goku still hasn't even broken a sweat. You can still feel your heart racing, and your lungs only just stopped burning, but this kid doesn't seem tired at all. Is he really even human?

Even though you still haven't fully caught your breath yet, you decide that you need to really push yourself if you want to even approach Goku's level. It's infuriating to think that a little twerp like him is so much stronger than you, so you'll need to match his training level. Which means, even if you're exhausted and your body feels like it's going to start giving out on you, you can't stop training until he does!

"Fine," you say, making up your mind and resolving not to give up. "Let's keep training, we still have some time before nightfall."

"Great!" Goku cheers, bouncing on his tail over to you. "Now that we're all warmed up, we can really get serious about training!" You blink. Wait, that wasn't even serious? How hard does he go when he's really training? You do your best to keep your despair and shock under wraps as Goku continues, seemingly completely unaware of your turmoil. "So, what's next?"

> Train strength.
> Ask about Goku's tail.

Catching your breath, you decide you need to establish your fundamentals first before learning anyone else. You've already worked on your speed and stamina, now you just need to build up your strength. "Well, why don't you show me how your Grandpa trained you to get you so strong?" You ask.

Goku nods, "Sure, that's no problem!" Then, he leads you back into the forest, away from the cliff. Soon, you've reached a clearing. You notice several different tree stumps left, dotting the edges of the clearing, and you realize it must have been artificially cleared at least somewhat by Goku's training. As Goku starts walking around the edge of the clearing, inspecting each of the trees, you decide to take the opportunity to try to get to know the strange child a little bit better.

"So, uh... Goku. What's with the tail?" You ask, watching it as he walks. It seems to move and shift completely on it's own, which means it must be real, right? Unless it's some kind of machine, but Goku didn't even know what a car is, it's not like he could make something like that... unless, maybe, he's a robot! It would explain his freakish strength and speed, and how he never seems to get tired. Maybe this Grandpa of his is some sort of mad scientist!

"I dunno, I've had it for as long as I can remember." Goku says, looking back at his own tail. "I thought everyone had one, but I guess not... Maybe I'm part monkey!" He laughs at the thought, but at this point, it wouldn't even be the strangest thing about this kid.

As Goku seemingly settles on a tree and begins inspecting it closer, you ponder. "Can you use it for anything?"

"Oh, sure! It's helpful for moving around, plus, I dunno how you guys can go fishing if you don't have a tail. Although, it hurts real bad whenever anyone pulls on it. Grandpa trained me to be like steel, but I could never train my tail to be as tough as the rest of me." Goku says, before suddenly launching himself into the air and rocking the tree with a series of blows as he does so. When he lands on the ground, he's followed by what used to be the tall, proud tree, now chopped into several different logs. "Now, to train punching, we make firewood!" He says excitedly, before he tosses one into the air, and then nails it with a precise kick in midair. He lands again, this time with the log split into perfectly chopped pieces of firewood that neatly stack behind him.

"Now, your turn!" He says, while you're still reeling from the sight of what just happened. He was like a blur, you could barely track him with your eyes, and before you can take a second to gather yourself, Goku's thrown the next log into the air.

>[Strength increased!]

You reach deep into the well of energy from before, and use it to increase the height of your jump as you leap into the air towards the log. You know you're only going to have one shot at this, so you prepare carefully, gathering as much of your power in one hand as you possibly can. When the time is right, you strike out, slamming your clenched fist into the log, directly in the center. A part of you expects it to take the blow easily, and just hurt your hand, but you're shocked at your own strength when the log splits, just as Goku's had, into several chopped pieces of firewood.

As you land, the wood falls into a pile next to you. They're less uniform than Goku's, and his are stacked, rather than simply heaped haphazardly on top of one another, but even still, you're impressed at your own accomplishment. "Wow!" Goku says, grinning widly at you. "For a first time, that was great! I knew you were holding something back when we were fighting!"

You try to play off your shock, running a hand through your hair and giving Goku a smirk. "Of course! I'm not a master delinquent for nothin', kid! I told you, I'm tough, I just... wanted to see how good you were."

Goku's eyes go wide, "Whoa! That's awesome! So, we should have another sparring match then!" He says, instantly dropping into a combat stance. Your face goes pale, as you desperately scramble for a way out of this hole you've dug for yourself.

"N-no! We can't, I mean. Of course, I want to, but Bulma's got to be worried about us, it's already almost dark." You point up towards where the sun has nearly completely vanished behind the shadow of Mt. Paozu.

"Fine," Goku groans, before he starts gathering up the firewood.

"We probably won't need any of that," You say, looking back at him. "Bulma's capsules have pretty much everything we'll need."

As the two of you walk back towards Goku's hut, or at least, Goku leads you, you follow him, since you'd completely gotten lost after being chased by the tiger, and only after Goku points out various landmarks do you even start to gather where the two of you are. Just as the two of you leave the heavy forest again, you hear the sounds of suspiciously familiar screaming from above.

"Kazuma! Goku! Help me, or I'm gonna end up dino food!" Bulma cries, as you look up and see she's currently gripped in the clutches of a large pterodactyl, flying overhead.

"Huh?" Goku asks, looking upwards passively. "Is that guy one of your friends?" He turns towards you and you scoff, shaking your head.

"No! If we don't do something, he'll probably eat her!" You respond, desperately racking your brain for some plan to handle this.

>Throw Goku at the pterodactyl.

"Don't just stand there you idiots!" You hear Bulma yell from above, "Get me down!"

Goku lets out a sigh, passively looking up at her and scratching the back of his head. "Jeez. I don't blame her for being upset, but she doesn't have to call us names." You're still desperately looking around, measuring up the different ways you could catch up to her and the pterodactyl. "I'd like to help, but I don't know how to fly, y'know?" Goku says, looking up at you.

Then, it hits you. The pterodactyl is far too high for either of you to reach by jumping alone, but Goku, for as strong as he is, can't be too heavy. And with your newfound strength, you might just be able to get him to the pterodactyl. Of course, if you miss, you'd be throwing a child to his death... "What if I throw you?" You turn to Goku, checking his perspective.

His eyes light up, and his grin stretches across nearly his entire face. "That sounds so fun! Let's do it!"

Although you were searching for reassurance, his excitement kind of serves as the opposite, and you're questioning this idea even more. "B-but, what if I miss?" You say, reminding Goku of the possible danger.

He just laughs it off. "No worries, I'll just use the power pole! Now, let's do it, before they get away!" He says, before hopping into your arms, not leaving you a chance to question him further. You can see Bulma and her captor getting further and further away the longer you wait, so really, you need to act now.

You gather as much strength as you can and launch Goku into the air after the pterodactyl. Goku soars through the air after the flying dinosaur, he's about as heavy as you'd expect for a kid his age, and with your newfound strength, it's more than enough to launch him far. Unfortunately just not quite far enough. Goku just barely manages to fall short of Bulma, leaving the pterodactyl to keep flying.

You hear the pterodactyl letting out a deep, guttural laugh as Goku starts to plummet to the earth, and you feel your stomach drop. He's dead. You've just caused the death of a child, and not only that, but Bulma's probably going to be eaten by that pterodactyl for lunch. You almost close your eyes to avoid seeing the gruesome end to both of your friends, but a part of you just can't bring yourself to look away. Suddenly, you hear Goku's voice.

"Power Pole: Extend!" Then, suddenly, his staff starts expanding rapidly, hitting the pterodactyl right in the head and causing it to drop Bulma. Both Goku and Bulma start falling, but Goku throws the staff, catching Bulma and pinning her against a cliffface as he plummets to the forest floor. Goku managed to save Bulma, at least, you think. From your position, you can't exactly tell the exact status of either of the two of them, and they've both fallen in completely separate areas of the forest.

> Go check on Bulma.

You decide that out of the two of them, Goku's almost certainly the one that can handle the fall better. If anyone's really hurt, it'd be Bulma, and of course, if Bulma gets hurt, that means you won't get paid, and she'll probably never speak to your again. Neither of those seem particularly good. So, you head off towards where you think you saw Bulma fall.

You certainly find her, pinned to a sheer cliffwall by Goku's staff, Bulma is suspended in the air, screaming and cry as she kicks her legs, completely helpless and still terrified. You can even see a stream of liquid running down her legs as she's pinned up there. As soon as she sees you, her wail gets even louder. "Augh! Help me! This is the worst moment of my entire life!" She cries, desperately squirming in an attempt to free herself, although you worry if she goes overboard she might end up sending herself down into the ravine that the pterodactyl seems to have fallen down.

After very carefully helping Bulma down, she sinks away to hide in shame for awhile as Goku suddenly emerges from the brush and waves. "Hey guys, that was pretty cool, huh?"

You let out a laugh and nod. "Sure, I guess so." That exchange probably nearly gave you a heartattack and practically traumatized Bulma, but Goku seems to be as impossibly cheerful as ever. Soon, Bulma returns, and without exchanging any words, she throws down a capsule house, storms inside, and then rushes to the bathroom, where she slams the door shut. Soon afterwards, you can hear the sounds of a shower running from within.

"Jeez, what got her so upset?" Goku wonders outloud, before following you inside the house, where his eyes go wide. "Whoa, it's dark outside, but it's daytime in here!"

You blink. "You don't even know what electricity is?" Goku just stares up at you blankly and slowly shakes his head. You don't even know how to begin to explain everything to this kid. It's like he's actually from the stone age!

"Say, I'm hungry!" Goku says, "I think I'm gonna go hunt up some grub. Unless," he turns back to you just before heading out the door. "You said you had some techniques to show me right?"

> Teach Goku the ways of the Delinquent.

You smirk, "Yeah, I guess I could teach you some stuff." You may not necessarily be as strong as Goku, but it feels good to be the teacher rather than the student for once. Especially since he looks so much younger than you. "Well, they don't call me the Master Delinquent of West City for no reason, y'know!" You say, flexing.

"What's a delinquent?" Goku asks, scratching his head.

You pose dramatically, "To be a delinquent is more than a mere fashion choice, more than committing mere misdemeanors, more than simply being a nuisance! It is a way of life! Delinquents are freedom fighters, modern day ronin, blazing their own path through the confines of modern life!"

Goku's eyes go wide as he looks up at you. "Woah..." Then, he grins widely. "So, how do I become a delinquent?"

One. You see him with one other chick besides 18 and she is an absolute fucking thot who canonically fucks some dude for ice cream.
Krillin proceeds to be so broken up about it he names his daughter after her.
>>
>>4053062
ah, what we have here is a classic case of miscommunication on both our parts.

>>4053071
So from what I am getting from this post is you want our guy to be a gym dudebro that does nothing but train, in a vain attempt to catch up to the powerhouse that is/will be Goku.

Yeah how about no, to the hell no
>>
>>4053074
Canonically more girls than anyone other than Yamcha, so I stand by my point. Besides, you're really not giving a good reason to not do it. No matter who we get with we're cucking someone. Unless we go with Launch or Zangya I guess. But Launch is C-tier waifu, I'm glad Toriyama forgot her.
>>
>>4053077
I'm not saying we get into a dick measuring contest because as soon as Super Saiyan comes around we have no chance of beating people in term of raw power level.
What I am saying however is that Krillin got discouraged and never really applied himself after running up against the wall that was Perfect Cell.
There's more stuff we can do besides try and get the biggest power level to maintain relevance and actually contribute to the big fights.
It's not about what you have, it's how you use it. It's unfortunate that every human martial artist forgot that and faded into obscurity.
>>

See this I am completely behind this, as long as launch is our waifu
>>
>>4053086
>Canonically more girls than anyone other than Yamcha, so I stand by my point
Realistically I have to imagine that's because Krillin is the only other Z Fighter who actually went out looking for a relationship.
Tien is married to training, I'm pretty sure Chiatzu is some asexual vampire creature, and Goku bumbled into marrying the first woman to express interest in him.
And Yamcha is implied to have had a fair few one-night stands seeing as Bulma catches him with some floozy, leading to their breakup. Makes sense given how he was the Michael Jordan of Baseball when he played.

The Dragon balls
>>
When the power levels inevitably grow out of out reach, couldn't we just wish to unlock potential beyond the human body? I always wondered why the humans in the cast never did that. You could say warrior pride or some such other shit but when the planet is on the line it's okay to cheat a little.
>>
>>4053177
Because many didn't need to. When you have Saiyans that can achieve that power and are willing to fight for your protection, the world itself isn't in jeapordy only your pride. Needing to wish to be stronger is pussy shit. Either train to get there yourself or don't and start playing baseball.
>>
>>4053177
Not sure if that's possible. The dragon balls are equal to kami's power. So maybe? Wouldn't hurt to try.
>>
>>4053177
I'm going to assume most of them just didn't know that sort of Unlock Ritual existed, plus as >>4053180 why bother? The Saiyans will handle it.
>>
>>4053180
>Needing to wish to be stronger is pussy shit.
That's stupid though. If you hit the limit of human strength, than wishing for a higher power ceiling is the only way. If I remember correctly, Tien never stopped training and he could never touch the saiyans in terms of power.
>>
>>4053192
Never learned about Ultra Instinct, never attempted the Kaioken, never got any sort of power boost ritual.
Sure he probably couldn't match them in raw power, but that's not all there is in a fight contrary to what later Dragon Ball media might imply.
>>
>>4053192
There's no tangible ceiling established. At least not by the time of super. Tien never did stop training, but he also never learned techniques that amplified his base power to absurd degrees. Remember that Base Goku and Vegeta could be fought by some of the Z-Fighters at about equal measures in strength and skill. It's that the humans never had a proper transformation equivalent. They never hit a ceiling, but their rate of growth wasn't fast enough to close a gap that was widened to insane proportions via the SSJ stuff.
>>
Kaioken is trash till super came. It destroys your body unlike a transformation can provide. Ultra instinct is irrelevant till super and we have no ic way of learning it without angel training. As for a power boost ritual that gohan received is also years away which by then mc becomes irrelevant because of ssj transformation. Honestly can think of a in character way to truly keep up with the sayains unless mc with his unique delinquent outlook on thing gets creative in his training and comes up with something new.
>>
>>4053212
>Kaioken is trash till super came
Yeah if you have shit energy control and use it like a retard. Even Goku managed to get instant bursts of X20 before he got Super Saiyan.
>Ultra instinct is irrelevant till super and we have no ic way of learning it without angel training.
But we can learn the fundamentals of a simpler version, as Roshi demonstrated when he fought Jiren for a minute despite a near infinite power gap.
>Honestly can't think of a in character way to truly keep up with the sayains
Yeah because keeping up with them with Super Saiyan is impossible. We just have to build ourselves up as much as humanly possible and use what we have effectively.
>>
>>4053177
Why not have Bulma reverse engineer Gero’s tech and turn us into a Cyborg? It’s a guaranteed way to keep us relevant in the long run after Cell.
>>
>>4053222
Not a terrible idea honestly.
We can even train afterwards and get stronger as shown in Super with 17.
Hell we don't have to wait until the android Saga to transcend our humanity. We can start now (or soon I guess) with cybernetics provided we give Bulma the idea to start developing them.
>>
>>4053109
I'm not pushing for Bulma as much as I think the delinquent having a crush and being nervous around Bulma is a lot more fun and fitting for early Dragon Ball than another protagonist that's aloof and annoyed by her. Plus, in early Dragon Ball, literally everyone except Goku's into her, so it would be weird to upset that balance.
>>4053177
There will be less of a hard ceiling in this quest, with plenty of different opportunities and paths to increase your power level and keep up with Z-level threats. Part of the idea behind this quest is for Kazuma to attempt to keep up and stay competitive well into Z and possibly beyond.
>>4053233
At the moment at least, Kazuma probably isn't smart enough to think of this idea without prompting from something.

Also, for everyone worried about waifus, don't worry, there will be plenty more unique and interesting options available rather than just the same few that are in every single quest. (Although, it won't be a super big focus of the quest)

It was thought up under the assumption that the issue with Kaio-ken was that the user's body wasn't strong enough to handle the stress caused by the massive bursts of ki and attempts to solve it by incorporating a streamlined version of Max Power that isn't bulky enough to cause any significant loss of speed

Out of curiosity, is each one of the name choices a food or cooking pun, if so which one is what exactly?

As soon as I get a character sheet for Kazuma written up, I'll post that and try to keep your PL updated. There's not really a way I can update in character at the moment, but I can tell you guys whenever you ask. Your starting PL of 3 was pretty awful (only slightly better than the average, unarmed human,) your training has now pushed you up to PL 5, so about on-par with Goku, if a little bit weaker. Right now, since you're at such a low-power level, and you're training with Goku, your gains will be pretty fast. Later on, and in different training environments, against different opponents, they'll probably be a lot slower.
>>4053549
Tofoo is obvious, Okazu stems from the Japanese word for side dishes, Honzen is an old-school way of preparing and serving food in Japan, and Ryokan is the word for the traditional style of Japanese inn (padded tatami floors, sliding doors, shared baths, etc.)
>>
>>4053640
Keep in mind, Tofoo as a name in Dragonball quests is bad luck.
Also what would you even list on a character sheet? What do you envision Kazuma to look like?
>>
>>4053643
Kazuma does have actual stats I'm keeping track of beyond just his PL, as well as room for any techniques or inventory you will probably learn relatively soonish.
>>
>>4053643
How so is it bad luck
>>

It's the name of the MC in Somnius' Dragonball Quest, one of the longest running and most prevalent quests of it's type. Also notably one of the few that survived the transition from /tg/ to /qst/.
Really just left a bad taste in everybody's mouths after it "ended".

>your training has now pushed you up to PL 5,
Us barehanded is the equivalent of farmer with a shotgun? Shit, we're already pretty good for the human average then. And I thought Goku would be in the late double digits.
>>
>>4053786
Oh, yeah, my mistake, I got those power levels mixed up, Goku is at PL 10 right now.
>>
>>4053675
I’m glad that one anon decided to hijack the quest for one thread to give it a proper ending
>>
>>4053654
So just a guess. But is what Goku did essentially is trigger our fight or flight instincts to basically drudge up the Ki we have? We're like a mini Goku, needing to see something in action before proper use can be done. Sure Goku doesn't use Ki attacks but he inherently utilizes his Ki in his movements and attacks to provide him a boost. That's my guess here for the very huge jump in PL, almost doubling

>Give him pointers on his style.

"Well, first thing's first..." You tap your chin, Goku may be the martial arts master here, but if there's one thing you're the master of (other than delinquency, of course,) it's style. "The most important thing, not only in a delinquent's life, but across the world, is to look as cool as possible."

Goku looks up at you skeptically, or at least, as much as he can manage to look skeptical. "Really? I thought you were gonna teach me like a cool move, or a special technique..."

You grin widely and shake your head, "Don't be so short-sighted! Sure, combat is important, and learning new techniques can be cool, but in the long term, once you die, your techniques and abilities die with you. Style, on the other hand, is immortal!"

Goku still looks confused, but ne nods. "I... guess that makes sense. Sorta..." Then, he looks up at you, tapping his chin. "But then, why do you look like that?"

Your vision goes red for a moment, and you almost lose it, but you remember this is Goku. He could probably still beat you easily if it comes down to a fight. Obviously, you wouldn't normally let anyone get away with this kind of disrespect, but at least for Goku, you decide to allow him to get away with it. "You're just saying that because you've never seen another person before! In the real world, I'm the coolest guy you'll ever meet, ya got that?!"

Goku shrugs and nods, "Whatever you say. Now, go ahead and teach me, Mr. Kazuma!"

You circle Goku a few times, taking mental notes. "You need to do something with your hair, first and foremost..." You reach out, rubbing a hand through Goku's hair. It seems like he's never washed or brushed it in his entire life, leading to it just sticking out completely randomly. "A pompadour might be too ambitious. Maybe with some bleach, you could look cool. But either way, you need to get your hair under control."

"My hair's fine! You're the one with the weird hair!" Goku says, sticking his tongue out at you.

"You better quiet down if you wanna learn anything, you little twerp!" You retort, before looking at his tattered, dirty gi. "Lemme guess, you don't have any other clothes, either?" Goku shakes his head and you sigh, "As soon as this is all over, I'm gonna take you shopping. People need to know just by looking at you that you're not the kinda guy they wanna mess with! That way, you don't have to fight so many people."

Goku looks up at you like you're an idiot. "Why on earth would I wanna do that? I like fighting people!"

You're about to continue, when suddenly you hear the shower stop, and Bulma exits the bathroom."Alright! Now, I'm all ready. Are you boys hungry for some food?" She winks, and immediately at the mention of food, Goku's completely forgotten what the two of you were doing.

He rushes over to Bulma, "Yeah, I'm so hungry!"

Bulma giggles in response, "Well, you're in luck!" Before grabbing a capsule full of ingredients and quickly starting to prepare dinner. Not that there's exactly much preparation involved with dyno-cap cooking. "I just happen to be one of the best chefs you'll ever know!" She says, tossing her hair over her shoulder.

Soon, you're all sat around the small dinner table, a decently wide array of prepared foods available for you, along with fresh coffee. You have to admit, it seems a lot nicer than whatever Goku would have had you eat.

Speaking of Goku, the boy seems thoroughly unimpressed. "So this is it, huh?" he asks, as he picks through the food. "Yuck, none of this stuff has any flavor, and my soup's bitter!" He complains and Bulma sighs.

"It's bitter because it's not soup, it's coffee! And you need to eat right if you want to grow up big and strong."

Goku ponders this for a moment, before nodding. "You're right!" He hops down from his chair and starts walking towards the door. "I'm gonna go get some real food that'll actually help me get strong! See ya!"

"Oh jeez..." Bulma says with a sigh as Goku heads out the door. You feel a blush start to creep across your cheeks as you suddenly realize now it's only you and Bulma alone together again...

>Try to get to know Bulma.

"That kid is gonna get himself killed one of these days..." Bulma sighs.

You laugh a little, "He didn't seem like the one in danger with that pterodactyl." You note, earning you a glare from Bulma, which you shrug off. "Honestly, for a kid he's... crazy strong. And he's some kinda fighting genius, I've never seen anyone that can move the way he does."

Bulma nods, "True, he did completely destroy our ride... Maybe he'd make a better bodyguard than you?" She says, sticking her tongue out at you, and it's your turn to glare at her. "I'm kidding," she giggles, holding her hands up. "I think I'd go crazy if it was just me and him. Plus, I don't know if he'd even come along if not for you. He actually seems like he likes you."

"Well, I train with him. Seems like that's mostly what he cares about." You note.

Bulma then leans in, "Speaking of, actually... you know... there's an issue." She checks to make sure that Goku hasn't returned before whispering conspiratorially. "The Dragon Balls only grant one wish, and I don't even know if they can bring people back from the dead!"

You blink, "I thought you said they could do anything! And why are you only bringing this up now?"

She hushes you dramatically. "Keep your voice down! We needed to get that Dragon Ball, remember? Just... when it comes time for it, remember, I'm the one paying you!"

"Well, what are you wishing for then?" You ask, surely it must be of equal importance of Goku's Grandpa, right?

She blushes a deep crimson, "J-just... don't worry about it! That's just for me to know!"

You blink. Are all girls this weird, or is it just her? Sometimes you wonder.

> Ask about what happens to the Dragon Balls after the wish

"Wait," you say, "Why can't we make more than one wish? Isn't it usually three wishes with this kinda stuff? What happens to the Dragon Balls?"

Bulma giggles a little bit, suddenly avoiding eye contact. "Well, that's sorta why they're so rare..." She says, nervously. "Once you summon the Dragon and make your wish, they all vanish again! They disappear off to a random place around the world."

You sigh, "That's just great. Anything else you're still not telling me?"

She hides her face as she speaks, "And they're supposed to take a year before you can use them again, even if you find them all."

"Damn it!" You groan. This job isn't nearly as easy as you'd thought it would be. You certainly don't want to be the one to tell Goku he's not going to be able to get his wish for another year... "Can't your wish just wait..." You say, but you already know the answer before Bulma even opens her mouth.

"Of course not! Listen, my wish is not only very private, it's also incredibly time sensitive! If you even knew what it was, you wouldn't be asking me such stupid questions!" She cries, and you let out a sigh.

"But, I'm assuming you still won't tell me what it is," you say, and at this point, you're not entirely sure why you bother. Probably because she's hot.

"Of course not!" She shuts you down almost immediately. "You sure do ask a lot of questions, y'know that?!" She says, in an accusatory tone. "Well, why don't you tell me about yourself then, Mr. Delinquent!" She says, before she takes a drink from her coffee, still glaring at you as she does so. You can't even be nervous at this point, this girl is just too damn strange.

> Tell Bulma about delinquent life.
> Tell Bulma about Urameshi.

You shrug, "What do you wanna know about me? I thought I was just the bodyguard."

She glares at you, "I just think it's strange how you were so eager to join me on this and drop everything, and now you're asking all these questions... aren't you supposed to be some sort of master delinquent? Don't you have anything better to do?" She asks, sounding more and more confident as she grills you further.

Finally, you hold your hands up in surrender. "Okay, fine! Truth is... recently, my position as Bancho has been... questioned somewhat. Another delinquent Urameshi... I had no idea he was so strong..." You lament, you clench your fists just thinking about what happened that day, what threw you off your position at the top of the heirarchy...

"Wait, what happened?" Bulma asks, suddenly intrigued.

You groan, "I lost! He looked like a pushover and I didn't think it'd be a big deal, but he refused to show me respect! I challenged him to a fight, and right there, in front of everyone, he knocked me out!"

Bulma's eyes go wide. "Wait, seriously?! I thought you were the strongest... maybe I should have gotten this Urameshi guy as me bodyguard." You stand up, knocking over the food you were eating in a rage.

"Don't you dare! That's when I swore I would get stronger and cement my place as the World's Strongest Delinquent!" You proclaim, posing dramatically, pumping your fist into the air. "That's why I joined you on this journey, I knew just sticking around West City, I'd never be able to get strong enough. It's too boring and simple, Urameshi is the first person I met there that was able to give me a challenge!"

Bulma stares up at you. "Why couldn't you have said that sitting down? Now you spilled everything!" She yells, now standing up herself and staring you in the face.

Before the argument can progress any further, the two of you are interrupted as Goku returns. "Hey guys, I'm back!" He says cheerfully, you turn, only to be shocked when you see him carrying what appears to be a centipede in one hand and a dead wolf on a stick in the other. "Look what I found! Doesn't this stuff look great?"

Before you can say anything, Bulma has already rushed over to the front door, shoved him out and then slammed it shut. Letting out a loud scream as soon as the door is closed. You hear Goku's voice from outside, "Are you guys serious? This stuff is delicious when roasted on an open fire!"

Bulma storms off down the hall towards her bed. "Shut up! There's no way in hell I'd ever eat that!" She screams, before slamming the door to her bedroom shut. You figure it's time to head to bed yourself, and start preparing to sleep on the floor. Soon enough, Goku's finished eating and comes back in.

"Huh, did Bulma already go to bed?" He asks, looking curious. You nod, "Well, you guys missed out!" He says, grinning. "That was delicious!" The two of you grab a few blankets but just as you lay down to sleep, Goku looks at you with a strange expression.

"Can I use your crotch as a pillow?" He asks, and without even thinking you smash your pillow into his face.

"Don't ask me questions like that you idiot!" You yell, but he only looks confused at you. "Listen, only say stuff like that to chicks you're on a date with, alright?" You try to explain, but it doesn't seem to work.

"But Grandpa always let me, it was really comfy!" He complains.

"Just don't, alright?!" You yell, you don't want to deal with this. "Just get some sleep, we'll do more training tomorrow, alright?" That works well enough, and he calms down and goes to sleep, finally.

The next morning, you're awakened by the sounds of what you'd almost swear was Goku screaming. You bolt up off the floor and notice Goku isn't with you. But, if he's really in danger, whatever could scare Goku, you'd have no way of comparing to something like that! You bolt over towards the source of the scream, Bulma's room, where you see Goku standing, looking terrified as Bulma looks confused.

"N-no balls..." Goku mutters, staring wide eyed at Bulma as she stumbles over to her bag and checks on the Dragon Balls.

"Huh? The're right here, Goku!" She says, looking towards him. "You woke everyone up! You're probably just still half-asleep. Don't scare us like that..." She sighs.

Goku is still speechless, and you know exactly what to break him from whatever this is. "Hey, you wanna get some training in?" You ask Goku, and he's immediately over whatever had disturbed him so much earlier and rushes outside to train.

"C'mon, let's go!" He calls as you get ready and get dressed. As soon as you step outside, Goku is excitedly hopping around. "What training do you wanna do now?"

>Train agility with Goku.

I'll have mercy.

"I really feel like I gotta up my speed if I wanna stand a chance," you explain, "I got real fast during our training yesterday, let's try and get there again."

Goku grins and nods, "Yeah, a good warmup to get the blood pumping sounds great!" His enthusiasm fades somewhat however, as he glances around your surroundings. Bulma had set up camp in a fairly flat, peaceful plain in a larger valley. There didn't seem to be too many dangerous predators around to get your adrenalin pumping, in fact, all you really had to train with were rocks. "But... what are we gonna do for training?"

"Oh, I have an idea!" Goku says, as he bounces over towards one of the medium sized boulders. It's almost as tall as he is, but he lifts it without too much effort. "Here, just dodge!" He says, before chucking the large rock directly at your head with almost no warning. Your eyes go wide and you have less than a second to process the information and react. You desperately will your body to move, and you can only hope the signal reaches your still tired limbs fast enough to keep you from the boulder hurtling directly towards you.

>[Agility slightly increased]

You just barely manage to move in time, narrowly avoiding the boulder hurtling towards your head. You're still nowhere near as fast as you were yesterday, but you dodged it, which at least means your head's still attached to your body. If you'd hesitated for just an instant more, you probably wouldn't have been able to get out of the way in time, which isn't exactly a comforting thought.

"Give a guy some warning next time, you jackass!" You yell at Goku, still trying to catch your breath. You take a breather, taking a seat on the boulder that had just been thrown by Goku. Howevery, you aren't exactly given much time to get your bearings.

Goku groans, impatiently. "Jeez, you and Bulma sure are acting strange..." He rubs his chin, then he looks up at you as if he's suddenly come to an epiphany. "Kazuma, do you have balls?"

You blink, then, as the words start to sink in and you begin to process them, your rage takes over. "Damn you, of course I do!" You yell as you bolt upright from your seated position, no longer worried about catching your breath. "Throw another one at me, no, screw it, throw two at me!" You're not thinking properly at this point, all you know is you refuse to let such a direct challenge to your manhood fly.

Goku seems confused by your reaction, and then shrugs, "Well, if you say so." He says, before lifting two of the hefty boulders. With a bit of effort, he throws the first one at you, which you prepare to dodge, eyes still focused on Goku, waiting for him to toss the second one. Suddenly, however, all that is disrupted when the boulder lets out a strange cry. You're shocked, and as you try to process the rock that is now moving and shifting, the one that Goku just threw at you collides with your torso, knocking the air out of your lungs and sending you flying back.

"What are you two idiots doing out here?" You hear Bulma's voice as she rushes over to check on you.

"We're just training," Goku explains, as he walks over to help lift the boulder off of your stomach, "Right Kazuma?" He asks, but your attempt to answer only comes out in the form of desperate gasps for breath and a weak sigh. You barely even notice the turtle that is now walking alongside Goku.

The turtle looks down at you, "I'm sorry," he says, in a surprisingly soothing voice. "I didn't mean to scare you, I was just woken up from my nap and I was very frightened."

You can't respond, you just reach out and lightly pat the turtle. You feel as if you've formed some sort of connection with the turtle now, although that might be the delirium from the pain.

"So," Bulma asks, "What's a seaturtle doing all the way out here?"

The turtle lets out a deep sigh, "Well, that's the real problem... I've been lost from my home for almost a year now! I wandered from the ocean looking for mushrooms and ever since, I haven't been able to find my way back..." Then, a spark of hope in the animal's eyes, "You wouldn't be able to help me, would you?"

Bulma sighs, "The ocean is really out of the way... If we want to get the next Dragon Ball on time, we really can't afford detours like this..." She starts to explain, but she's unable to finish her thought before Goku interjects.

"Sure, we'll show you the way!" Goku says with a smile, before he starts hefting the turtle up onto his back. Bulma's eyes go wide.

"Wait, Goku, you can't be serious! We don't have time for things like this, it's not even our problem!" She complains, but Goku's barely even listening to her.

He shrugs, "Well, if you want, you can stay here. I'm gonna help Mr. Turtle."

Bulma's face goes red and you can tell she's getting frustrated, "Fine then, do whatever you want! I'll find all the rest of the Dragon Balls by myself while you're off worrying about some stupid turtles! Just know, when you come crawling back for me, you'll regret it, because I won't show you any mercy!" She shouts and assumes Goku will give up, but he's only started jogging off, the turtle on his back.

Bulma stands, arms crossed over her chest and pouting for a while. "Can you believe this, Kazuma? That kid is unbelievable!" Then, realization starts to dawn on her, as you're still struggling to gather the ability to breathe and speak properly. "Wait... he still has one of the Dragon Balls..."

With a groan, she packs up and throws a motorcycle capsule down. She hops onto the bike and helps you onto the back of it before riding off in the direction Goku and the turtle left in. "Hey, wait up!"

Goku looks up at the two of you as she speeds over towards him. "I thought I wasn't gonna see you again."

She sticks her tongue out at him, "Shut up. I decided that helping the turtle might be a good idea after all."

"She forgot you still had one of the Dragon Balls," You chime up from behind Bulma, only for her to glare back at you, reminding you of your close proximity on the bike. You decide to shut up and focus on the journey for now, so as not to provoke the wrath of Bulma, especially not when you're still recovering from that training accident.

After a while of travelling through the relatively peaceful valley towards the coast, Goku chimes up. "I hope we get to the ocean soon, I'm getting real hungry..."

The turtle pauses, looking between all of you. "This is probably the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. Thanks, you guys."

Goku laughs it off, "It's no big deal!"

Bulma, on the other hand, is far less graceful. "Oh, spare me, please! Can we just focus on where we're going so we can get back to finding those Dragon Balls? I want to find these things before we all die of old age!"

Goku looks up at her, "Have you ever been happy about anything?" He asks. You kinda wanna know the answer to that too, but Bulma unfortunately doesn't get the chance to answer. She is interrupted as a massive bear thief emerges from a hiding spot behind a rock pillar.

"Hold it right there!" The beast roars, grinning and licking his lips as he looks all of you over. "Human's give me heart-burn, but sea turtles are my favorite food, you know!" He holds out one monstrous furry paw, the one not clutching a huge, vicious looking blade, "If you hand over the turtle right now, I'll let the rest of you go. If you care about your lives at all, make the smart decision and give up your pet..."

Bulma's eyes go wide and she shakes a little as she looks up at the beast. "Goku! You heard him, J-just... give him the turtle already!" Goku responds by simply sticking his tongue out and blowing a raspberry at the bear.

The thief shrugs, "I guess a little heart burn won't kill me!"

Bulma lets out a scared shriek, "Goku! What's wrong with you, give him the freaking turtle already!"

But Goku shakes his head, "I don't want to! Too bad I can't fight well with Mr. Turtle on my back..." He looks back towards you, "How're you feeling, Kaz?"

> Take on the bear yourself.
> Pocket-sand.

You're still sore, tired and struggling to breathe from your training earlier, but when Goku looks back at you, you give him a nod. If you want to have any hope of surpassing Urameshi or Goku, you can't be scared, you can't be sitting on the sidelines getting your strength back. You need to push beyond your limits to really get stronger. But, just because you're doing that doesn't exactly mean you need to fight completely fairly. As you step to get off the bike, you hesitate for just a moment, in one motion leaning down and scooping up a handful of sand, which you deposite into your jacket pocket.

"You sure about this?" Bulma asks, looking up at you with what you're surprised to see looks like genuine concern. "You still look pretty beat up, you don't have to do this..." She says, as you meet her gaze.

"Don't worry about me. It's my job to protect you, remember?" You says, giving her a smile and a thumbs-up. As you walk towards the bear thief, you mentally celebrate how cool you must look as you step up to confront the bear thief.

The monstrous foe simply laughs as you step up to the plate, "Seriously? One human or the other, doesn't make a difference! I was trying to go on a diet, but if I have to, I'll just eat each and every one of you!" He roars, standing up to make himself look as large as possible. You keep your hands in your pockets as you look up at him, not moving a muscle, simply allowing him to gloat.

Finally, you speak, taking one hand out of your pocket to point up in the air. "Remember Goku, the first most important thing in a delinquent's life is to look cool!" You turn back towards Goku, giving him a thumb-up, "Now, I'll teach you your next lesson!" You turn back just in time to see the bear thief lunging towards you, clearing the distance between the two of you in only a few moments. He's fast for his size, but you dodge out of the way just in time. It's easier, because your goal isn't to fully escape the bear thief, just to get enough distance to hit your attack.

"Pocket sand!" You cry, as you pull your hand out of your pocket, still clenched with a fistful of sand. As soon as you can see the whites of the bear thief's eyes directly in front of you, you toss the sand forward. Your attacker lets out a howl of pain as he reaches up to rub his eyes, falling backwards as he does so, completely leaving himself open to any attacks.

> Pummel the thief while he's down.
> Swipe the sword off the bear.

You're feeling confident now, having more or less disabled the bear with one move. You turn back towards Goku, "Never play by your opponent's rules!" You say, posing dramatically, "That's the second lesson!" Goku nods, looking up at you with a massive grin, as you turn and stride over towards the downed and still blinded bear thief. With a swift kick to the chest, you knock him all the way onto his back, and reach down, taking the sword from the thief's grasp.

"Hey," you test the weight of the sword. It's a bit too big for you, but you don't exactly mind too much, as long as it looks cool. "You don't mind if I take this, do ya?" You ask, placing a foot on top of the bear thief's chest.

"You little bastard..." The bear mutters, still trying to regain his vision. "I'll get you for this!" He roars. You'd almost be intimidated if you didn't have such an advantage at the moment. Now, all you have to do is finish him off before he gets back up to his feet, which should be pretty damn easy. You might even get the chance to show off for Bulma and Goku as you do so.

"Take this!" You cry, before you lay into the bear thief's body. First, you drive your foot directly into his groin, causing him to let out a loud, high-pitched shriek as he reaches down to cup his wounded pride, leaving his head open for further attack. You drop the sword only for a few seconds, freeing both of your hands so you can clap the bear on the ears as hard as you can, disorienting him even further. One swift punch to the throat and he's unable to even attempt to fight back.

You pick the sword up from where you dropped it and turn back, posing dramatically with the sword held high for a few second. You must look totally radical, you think to yourself, as you check the reactions of your companions. "Jeez, he's actually kinda scary..." Bulma murmers, eyes wide.

On the other hand, "Yeah! I knew you were getting stronger! Get him Kazuma!" Goku cheers you on, and you grin before turning back towards the bear. In one smooth motion, you bring your blade down on the bear's head, causing a stream of blood to jet out from the wound. You leave the bear, and pace back towards your companions. "Everyone alright?" You ask, still carrying the sword.

The turtle nods, "Yeah, thanks to you... I have to admit, I thought you were pretty weak when I first saw you, but that was mighty impressive. Thanks for saving me!"

You gaze off into the distance, "It was... no trouble."

Bulma groans, "You're not as cool as you think you are, idiot!" She says, smacking you in the back of the head. You shoot her a glare but she sticks her tongue out in response. "Look, can we get a move on? We're nearly at the ocean, remember?"

You nod, "Sure, let's go." And the three of you continue your journey towards the coast. It's not long before the mountains and valleys of your surroundings fade into the spare palm tree, as the smell of salt-water fills the air, it soon becomes clear you're nearly at your destination.

Goku's eyes go wide and as soon as he drops the turtle on the sand, he rushes off towards the water, cheering and laughing. "Wow! It's so big, and blue! It's incredible! It stretches on for miles, I didn't know places this big even existed!"

The turtle, now half-way into the water stops and turns back towards the three of you. "I can't thank you enough! I never would have made it home if it wasn't for you."

Goku grins, "Anytime! You sure have a nice home, by the way!"

The turtle swims off away from the coast, but hesitates for a moment. "Would you mind waiting for a second? I'll get a gift to return the favor for you!" He says, before swimming off into the deep blue.

Bulma raises an eyebrow. "What kind of gift could a turtle have? Is it buried treasure or something?" But, the turtle is already too far, soon enough disappearing beyond the horizon. The three of you start to lounge around the beach. Goku tries to drink the water, before spitting it out, while Bulma laments forgetting her swimsuit.

Soon enough, a figure begins to appear on the horizon. Although you and Bulma struggle to make out the sillhouette, Goku immediately recognizes it. "It's the turtle... but someone's riding on his back." He says, while you and Bulma are shocked.

"How in the hell can you even look that far?" You ask.

Soon, the turtle arrives on the beach, and you and Bulma can see the passenger standing atop him is what appears to be some strange, frail old man. He's dressed in a tacky floral patterned shirt, with comically large sunglasses obscuring his eyes and a turtle shell strapped to his back. You blink. "Please tell me the gift isn't some random geezer..."

"Sorry for keeping you waiting," The turtle announces, "This is the great turtle hermit, Master Roshi!"

None of you recognize the name, but the old man interrupts. "Listen, I wanted to thank you all for saving my turtle!" He hops down off the turtle's shell and begins some minor exercises on the beach while the three of you look on. When he's finished, he turns back towards the turtle. "Which ones helped you again?"

The turtle nods towards Goku and you. "They did. The girl was mean and loud the whole time."

He looks between the two of you. "Well, I suppose I can figure something out." Then, he thrusts his staff into the air, dramatically shouting, "I summon you, Immortal Phoenix!"

You get excited as soon as he finishes speaking, but... nothing happens. You all stare into the sky, but after what feels like forever of awkward silence, the turtle speaks up. "Uh... Master Roshi, the Immortal Phoenix died of food poisoning, remember?"

Roshi curses, "Damn, that's right..." He rubs his beard, then he turns towards the sky again. "Come to me, Flying Nimbus!"

This time, after a few moments of waiting, you see what appears to be a small golden cloud hurtling towards you. Finally, it stops, hovering a few feet above the sand of the beach. "Whoa!" Goku says, eyes wide. "How do I eat it?"

The old man lets out a yelp. "You don't eat it! You ride it! Although, only those with a pure heart can ride aboard the Nimbus. I'll show you!" He announces, before he hops into the air. He holds his feet steady in position above the cloud, but he sinks right through, landing with a heavy thud on the beach. "Ow, my hip!"

Goku grins, "Let me try!" He hops aboard with no problems. Of course, you're not surprised in the slightest, although the turtle and Roshi both gasp. He begins soaring through the air, testing out the flying cloud, before he stops and turns towards you. "You wanna try and ride it, Kaz?"

> Try to find out more about Roshi.

You shake your head, "Nah, I'm good... I can already tell you I'm not gonna be able to ride it." You hold up your hand, and Goku nods, before soaring off into the sky again, testing out the Nimbus. As Goku's cheers fade off into the distance, you turn back towards Roshi, looking at him suspiciously. He meets your gaze "Ah, do you want a gift too, young man?"

You shake your head, "I'm alright. I don't need a fancy cloud or anything. I am curious though, what's a guy like you doing all the way out in the middle of nowhere?" You ask. You don't exactly trust this old geezer, and you want to find out more about him before doing anything else.

Roshi laughs, "An old man like me likes the peace and quiet! What do you think turtle hermit even means?"

"Right, but I mean, you must have done some amazing things in your day, right? You have the Flying Nimbus, you use to have that Phoenix... that's pretty impressive." You say, deciding that the best way to get this old guy to talk will be to disarm him. If you know one thing about geezers, it's that they love to talk about themselves.

"Well, you know, I was once the most powerful martial artist in the world! I was trained by the Great Mutaito himself, his chosen pupil!" He's already getting lost in his trip down memory lane. "I travelled the world, learning as many techniques, finding as many mystical objects as I could. I even had my fair share of ladies back in the day..." A blush starts to creep across his face and his gaze falls upon Bulma, who's mostly avoiding this conversation. "Say... your pretty girlfriend over there...?"

"I'm not his girlfriend you old pervert!" She immediately shouts, storming over.

Roshi isn't abated in the slightest. "That works out! Say, how about it? You want a gift too, girly?"

Bulma's attitude immediately shifts, "Well, why didn't ya just say so? Of course I do!" She says, giggling and clapping her hands together.

Roshi shakes his head, pointing his staff up at her. "I won't just give it to you, you'll have to earn it! For instance, by... showing me your panties!"

Bulma's face flushes red and her hands cover her mouth as the turtle immediately protests. "Master! You can't say something like that!"

Roshi groans in frustration, "What's wrong with an old master taking a break from training every once and a while and having a little fun?!"

The turtle sighs, "Now I know why you couldn't ride the Nimbus..."

Bulma seems like she's about to explode at Roshi, but as he turns towards the turtle and snaps, "Silence!" at him, you both spot something. Hanging around the old pervert's neck is an unmistakeable Dragon Ball!

Bulma's face goes an even deeper shade of crimson. "This is so embarassing, but... I guess it's not... too much to ask for a Dragon Ball..."

You decide to turn your head out of courtesy, but you can't help but look back and take a peek as Bulma reaches down, gripping the bottom of her dress. Blushing a deep red, and shutting her eyes, Bulma suddenly lifts her dress fully, leading to a massive shock to you, Roshi and the turtle. Even though Roshi only asked for her to show him her panties, Bulma must have forgotten to put on panties or something this morning, because the sight of her nude legs and ass is fully on display. "Ta-da!" She cries, unaware of exactly how much of a show she was giving.

Then, after what felt like an eternity but must have only been a few moments, Bulma drops her dress again, turning and hiding her blushing face in her hands. "Kyaa, how embarassing!"

Roshi, struggling to control his nosebleed, "I-I think I'm going to faint!" he murmurs, looking dazed and delirious. The turtle glares up at him disapprovingly, but Roshi doesn't even seem to notice him.

Bulma turns, clapping her hands together and seemingly over the embarassment already, although the rest of you are still struggling to get up to speed. "Alright! Now, can I have my gift?"

The old master turns and scratches his head. "Hm... what to give you..." But he isn't able to ponder much, as Bulma impatiently interrupts him.

"No, I want that!" She points out the Dragon Ball hanging around his neck. "Give me that!"

Roshi looks confused, before pulling the necklace off and holding it up. "You want this? It's just some old necklace I found a long time ago."

Bulma immediately plucks it from her hands as Goku approaches on Nimbus. "It really is! It's the the Three Star Dragon Ball!" She cheers, and Goku rushes up excitedly.

"Really? Where'd you find it?!" He asks, and you and Bulma explain that the Master had it, although Bulma skims over exactly what she did to get it.

She holds it up in a celebration. "We already have three Dragon Balls! Only a few more, and we get our wish!"

Meh. We already have a rival to surpass and took advice from Goku, a twelve year old kid. With that on our back already, asking the former strongest person in the world for some advice isn't a bad mood. Y'know what's funny? Discounting those on the lookout, I'm pretty sure Roshi and Yajirobe are currently the absolute strongest people alive currently. Weird as that may be - Yajirobe easily kills minions of King Piccolo.

The old man interrupts, grabbing the Dragon Ball back. "Now, hold on there missy! I didn't know it granted wishes! I only said I'd give you a gift, I didn't say you could take that one!"

Bulma isn't phased, "Why not?!" She asks, before grabbing her dress again. Repeatedly, she flashes the old man, as well as everyone else standing around. Goku seems confused by everyone else's reaction, as Roshi struggles to once again get his nosebleed under control.

"Y-you're going to kill me!" He says, desperately, "Fine, fine! Take it!"

As Goku and Bulma celebrate with the Dragon Balls and head back towards where the motorcycle is parked, you linger with the old master as he gets his bearings. "Hey, geezer!" You say, grabbing his attention as he hold a hankerchief up to his still bleeding nose. "I thought of my gift after all. How about training? I need to get stronger, fast!"

Roshi looks up at you and stops to stroke his beard contemplatively. "Hmm... well, I do actually have a school, but I haven't trained a student in decades!" Then, he nods. "Alright then! Every day, spend at least one hour meditating and channeling your ki while on your journey. The next time we meet, show me what you've learned, and I'll accept you as my student." He pauses for a second. "Oh, and bring that Goku kid too! He's much stronger than you."

You want to respond, or actually, you want to ask what the hell ki is, or how you're supposed to channel it, but almost immediately afterwards, Roshi is off, sailing off into the ocean aboard his turtle, leaving you alone with your thoughts. "Kazuma, hey!" You hear Bulma calling for you, "You coming?" With a sigh, you turn and head back to the motorcycle. It's never easy for you, is it?

You all ride back towards where Bulma left the capsule house. "We're making good time! We're nearly halfway there!" She says, cheerfully. Then, she turns towards you two. "Alright, you boys stay out here and train or whatever. I'm gonna get changed. Afterwards, we can get a move on and go and get that next Dragon Ball! It should still be pretty close."

Goku turns towards you with a big grin. "I knew it was the right thing to save that turtle! Anyways, you wanna do some more training?"

You shake your head, you don't feel like training right now. Especially when you don't even know what you're supposed to be training towards. If only you knew what Ki is, then, an idea suddenly occurs to you. Perhaps, this ki thing, whatever it is, is what allows Goku to be so freakishly strong. It would make sense. If you could harness that energy... there's no way Urameshi could stop you! You feel excited just thinking about it, but you try to look cool and casual as you turn towards Goku. "Say, you wouldn't happen to know anything about something called... Ki, would you?"

Goku stares at you blankly for a second as he ponders. Then, finally, "Nope! Never heard of it!" He says, completely dashing your hopes without a thought. You curse internally, but you resolve to just meditate. If you're lucky, it'll be like all those martial arts movies and meditating will help you figure out this Ki stuff. Well, you have to hope at least.

Well, there is another way you could try to draw this Ki thing out, whatever it is. Goku was right, adrenaline really helped your training when you first started, maybe a full, real battle with Goku could help draw your Ki out. On top of that, it'll be a good measure of how strong you've gotten. "No training, but how about a sparring match?" You offer, hands in your pockets.

Goku immediately hops down off his Nimbus excitedly. "Yeah, that sounds great! I've been itching to fight you again!" The two of you step a few paces away from the capsule house and fall into fighting stances. "Don't hold anything back this time!" Goku says, excitedly, and you nod. You didn't know you were exactly holding stuff back the first time you fought, but this time, you resolve to really push your limits.

You dash forwards, "I'll show you just how much I've gotten stronger!" You cry as you rear back your leg, preparing to deliver a devastating kick, but not towards Goku. Instead, you drive your heel heavily into the dirt and ground below you, kicking up a massive cloud of dust that almost completely obscures the air around Goku.

You hear the kid doubling over coughing, leaving him completely open to your attack!

"Sandstorm Barrage!" You cry, before unleashing a torrent of blows towards Goku, who's still struggling to gather his senses. To further disorient Goku, you don't stay in one place for any of the hits, each one coming from a different direction for Goku, leaving him unable to catch you with a counter attack.

Just as the dust starts to clear, you drive your knee hard into Goku's gut, winding him and allowing you time to dash backwards and buy space between the two of you. To most people, that attack would leave them completely down and out, but Goku's still left standing, even if the pain is visible on his face, as he starts to blink away the dust from his eyes.

"That was pretty good," Goku says, "I can't remember the last time something hurt me like that..." A grin spreads across his face, but his eyes aren't his usual, goofy, playful self. They're the eyes of a killer, an elite, natural warrior.

You shrug, trying to look cool and casual, and not to let off that that attack tired you out a decent bit. "It's nothing, just a simple technique I've been thinking about." You narrow your eyes at Goku and smirk, "You haven't even seen my best technique yet."

Goku takes off, rushing towards you, "Well, it's my turn now!" He yells as he jumps up, throwing a spinning kick directly towards your jaw.

I was planning to just dodge. Because hey, friendly spar. But this kinda gives me an idea - beat Goku now by grabbing his tail, and suggest he commits to fixing that weakness by training his tail. If we can get rid of that glaring weakness while also helping him keep his tail (which canonically makes him a bit stronger) then all the better!

As Goku rushes towards you and swings his leg, your eyes lock onto the tail trailing behind him through the air. Although you only have a few seconds to act, and trying to grab his tail will be trickier than simply dodging, you really need a foot up in this fight or else you won't make it.

So, you attempt to just barely move out of the way while still keeping close enough to reach out and grip Goku's tail, using it as leverage to attack the boy even more. Hell, you know he's not exactly heavy, you might be able to swing him solely by his tail, that could do some damage.

You dodge out of the way just in time, completely evading Goku's attacking, ducking your head so that he's sent soaring overhead, but he's caught almost immediately after as you grip his tail. Suddenly, Goku lets out a loud cry and scream, "M-my tail!" He cries, as you toss him down into the dirt. A few stomps to him as he's down, and Goku is, shockingly enough, putting up no fight whatsoever.

You didn't think you were that strong, Goku should have definitely been able to take those hits, but he's curled up, seemingly completely immobilized and drained by your attacks. You hesitate, "Are you okay?" You crouch down to check on Goku, who looks up, starting to slowly regain his strength.

"Y-yeah," he nods, weakly. "My tail is my weakpoint though! Whenever anyone pulls on it, I lose all my power and I get super weak!"

You pause for a moment, "I wonder if you could train that? Like, if you could make it so that your tail doesn't weaken you anymore... that could make you pretty much unstoppable."

You unfortunately aren't able to pursue the topic much further, as you're interrupted by the sounds of Bulma screaming, although the sounds of terror are soon replaced by the sounds of rage as the blue haired girl bursts out of the capsule house, gun in one hand, her panties in the other, "WHO TOOK OFF MY PANTIES?!"

So if we get up to PL 10 like Goku, are we also going to be immune to small handguns? Or is that just the freak Saiyan body at play? Do we actually have a chance of unlocking Ki early?
>>
>>4061146
>Do we actually have a chance of unlocking Ki early?
Personally speaking, I don't think a small amount of control is outside of Kazuma's grasp given proper dedication.
>>
>>4061146
It depends on your specific stats and your training, but by PL 10, you're almost certainly gonna be basically immune to pistols. As for Ki, it's definitely theoretically possible. It won't be super easy, but Kazuma can definitely start his path towrds Ki manipulation, maybe even manage his first Ki blast by the end of the Saga if all goes well.
>>4061164
Yeah, it's also worth mentioning that low levels of Ki control doesn't immediately mean flying and energy blasts.

>>
>>4061623
Alternatively we could just make a living by smashing dojos.
>>
>>4061297
We're a delinquent. Which means even chances of not giving a fuck about our grades or our lameass parents
>>
>>4061226
Yes. Well, basically. This won't be a Yu Yu Hakusho quest out of the blue or anything, but I'll use characters and maybe some ideas from it, if they fit the tone of Dragon Ball decently enough.
>>4061297
I picture Kazuma as having very supportive, loving parents, which bothers him because all the coolest delinquents have tragic backstories. Similarly, I imagine Kazuma is actually a decently smart guy, but is very lazy about school and sometimes purposefully does worse on his grades than he would otherwise to gain more delinquent cred.
>>
>>4061802

>>
>>4061219

Goku thought you were kinda lame at first, but you've 100% won him over. Keeping up with him on the training and even (basically) beating him in a sparring match, and he's definitely excited to learn more from Kazuma.
Bulma still thinks you're a massive dork, but you actually did impress her when you beat up the bear thief and actually managed to look cool.
>>4062252
One of my favorite things about this quest so far is how you guys have managed to turn Kazuma into a character that is based off of like three different references at once.
>>4062358

>>
>>4062494
for the record, what are these three references, you're talking about?
>>
>>4062752
The obvious one is Kazuma Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho
>>
>>4062494

What are those three references actually. I assume none of them are a journey to the west reference like original Dragon Ball with Goku being sun, Bulma Xuanzang, Oolong as Zhu and Yamcha as Sha
>>
>>4062494
>Yamcha is going to fucking hate Kazuma as he is right now, in all honesty.
Yeah because we're basically diet Yamcha if you think about it. We just have the advantage of being on good terms with Bulma from the get-go.
>>
>>4062948
Yeah, but Bulma thinks Yamcha's insanely hot the second she sees him, so he has us beat there.
>>
>>4062954
Kazuma also doesn't have a crippling fear of vagina like Yamcha does, so who knows.
That said I'm still pushing for Ran Fan. She can't be that much older than Kazuma, right?
>>
>>4062964
I don't think her age was ever really made clear, but I figure somewhere in her mid to late twenties. I could be way off base, though.
>>
>>4062494
>Yamcha is going to fucking hate Kazuma as he is right now, in all honesty.
I have a feeling if things go as canon, we're still gonna end up the dude he goes to complain about being caught cheating for the 20th time.
>>
>>4063100
That whole cheating thing still seems way out of character for Yamcha.

You think it was just more cases of Bulma seeing other women show an interest in Yamcha and getting pissed at him for it?
>>
So pretty sure my IP has changed (phoneposting when I made it) but as the guy who proposed our name, I was actually thinking Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza.
>>
>>4063142
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. DBZ Kakarot has a sidequest that involves Puar turning into Yamcha and balancing all his girls while he's dead though.

Of course, Kakarot also gave the furry drug so take that however you will
>>
>>4062964
Late twenties to be sure. Mai is the superior choice anyways.
>>
>>4062537
At this point, he doesn't really have a concept in terms of fighting dirty, although he's definitely going to be picking up a few lessons and ideas from Kazuma.
>>4062752
>>4062881
>>4062934
>>4063168
The main references are to Kazuma Kiryu and Kazuma Kuwabara, I think I had a third reference in mind when I was writing, but I can't remember what it is now.
As for Journey to the West, the problem is that most of the actual relevant characters are already filled in with Dragon Ball characters, so you have to get into the demons or gods at that point, and those are all pretty bizarre. I guess, if anyone, Kazuma would be closest to Taizong.
>>4062964
Apparently, she's 23 during the tournament, so she's a bit out of Kazuma's age range, although I guess not technically impossible.
>>4063100
>>4063142
Yamcha being a womanizer seems kind of strange given all of his characterization doesn't really seem to support that, but I kinda like it because it at least gives him something to do as a character. Yamcha being so weak because he spends all his energy and effort playing baseball and balancing girlfriends is a pretty decent gag too.
>>
>>4063247
And yet, Krillin manages to balance being a cop and having freaking 18 as a wife and still be a good fighter when he takes ten seconds to get himself back in the swing.

Based Krillin
>>
>>4063253
I think those two things he's balancing is exactly why he's still a good fighter.
