>"Praise Edis the most chivalrous!"
Goblin Shaman: "Praise be! Honour guide us."
>"I hadn't expected a goblin tribe to be followers of the Lord of Chivalry."
Goblin Shaman: "Aye, some goblins invoke his name for healing but rarely does my kind follow religion."
>"So your tribe are actually followers of his teachings?"
Goblin Shaman: "They're not very religious, but as the tribe leader I at least make them follow the 5 precepts of Edis. It's for the good of my people, I'm old enough to know the civilised races of this world became strong through cooperation. Greed and evil only holds us back. So says LORD Edis."
>"Centuries ago the teachings of Edis uplifted my people from warring tribes to a glorious unified kingdom. I'm sure his word will uplift your people as well."
Goblin Shaman: *nods thoughtfully*
>"You say there are 5 precepts? In my culture there's 11."
Goblin Shaman: "What! Eleven you say!"
>"Your merchant goes to Aramoor often right? You should ask her to buy the Book of Iaazor, it's the foundation of humankind's scripture for Edis' teachings."
Goblin Shaman: "Foundation? There's multiple BOOKS of his wisdom?"
You spend a while red pilling the Shaman on Edis-core literature. The old goblins eyes glowing behind his mask's eyeholes.
>"Oh I spent a lot longer here than I originally intended, my friends are probably waiting. Oh! before I go, are you capable of blessings?"
Goblin Shaman: "Indeed, I have trained well to become an instrument of the gods' will!"
Through the shaman, Edis blesses you temporarily improving you saving throws.
Goblin Shaman: "Fare well human, may our god watch over you."

Soon you find yourself back on the raft gently going down the river. Soon you will directly reach the city itself as the river runs around it.
You lie back on the raft and look up at the clouds.

If there's anything you want to do before the raft reaches Tywardreath state it now.
(You have 20 unallocated skill points from turning level 13)

You decide to tell your companions a dark tale from your past. The first time you reall encountered a monster-race.
The Kettle Cave Kobolds that lived nearby your childhood home...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUqBBBQubps

You're playing in the woods a short distance from home. Terryn has the flu so you're out alone today.
You hear a girl shriek! Heroically you rush over to see.
The Alysons' daughter Liliane has been knocked on her rump by a gang of those no-good rotten kobolds! They're trying to steal her basket of goodies!
You have to help her!

You quickly look around for a weapon... Aha! A big stick.
You arm yourself and leap into the scene. The kobolds have snatched some honey cakes from Liliane's basket! But they're only little kobolds, you're a lot bigger than they are.
>"Give those back you thieving lizards!"
Young Kobald: "Why don't you make us? Dumb human."
He shoves the whole thing in his mouth.
Young Kobald: "Humans already have ALL the honey cakes, we take some so it's fair."

Looks like they're not going to give up the pastries, worse it looks like they're considering fighting you for the rest of them. Aren't they afraid of your big stick!?

>"Run away Lilly!"
The distraught girl clumsily gets on her feet and scrambles away with the remaining goodies.
A second after she gets to her feet one of the Kobolds tries to jump you.
You close your eyes, grit your teeth and swing as hard as you can.

You feel a huge SMACK as stick collides with the kobold's head.
You open your eyes to see he's been knocked on his lizard butt. His two friends balking like stuffed dummies.
The kobold boy groggily gets up. He glares at you with half crying half furious eyes and flees the scene with his tail between his legs (literally), his friends scampering close behind. He snorts and burbles unintelligible profanities at you as he stumbles into the distance.
You did it, you got in a fight and won! You're ten feet tall and strong as an ox. That night you relay the story to your family back home. Father seems thrilled to hear about your courageous story, swelling you with pride. But he also warns you to be careful, kobolds can hold a mean grudge. The following day you make sure every child in the area is notified that you single handedly defeated THREE kobolds in combat. All the kids are really impressed, Lilliane verifies your boasts as 100% accurate despite not actually witnessing your "fight".

Alina: "pfft what? You bashed some kobold kid and became a playground hero? That's your dark tale?"
>"That's not the end of it..."

Two days later you're playing outside with Terryn, when the same Kobold shows up. This time he's brought about TEN kobolds with him all brandishing mean looking instruments.
Kobold: "Hey you! You horrid human, you thumped my head!"
>"You started it!"
Kobold: "You hurt me bad! Now we're gonna bash you up so we're even, your dumb human friend too."
Terryn: "Stay away from Christof!"

There's no way you can fight all of them. Especially without the big stick.
But you can out run them! You tackle the one trying to cast a spell and you both tumble onto the ground.

Terryn runs through the opening you made. Angry kobolds try to sling rocks at him as he sprints away.
You try to get on your feet and run as soon as possible but feel a painful jolt of electricity.
The kobold boy you tackled cast Shocking Grasp on you! A real deal potentially lethal combat spell. You collapse back down again.
They start crowding around you, and start viciously kicking you.
Three of them are suddenly knocked over. Terryn comes crashing into them as full speed.
Terryn: "Don't hurt my brother!"
Idiot. He was supposed to run away and get help! Looks like he refuses to abandon you.
Using the chaos caused by Terryn you manage to stand up. Your heart is pounding.

(Can't finish this update image in time, will finish it tomorrow)

Wait! The magic! You've been tutored in magic for a while now, and have gotten pretty good at it. You don't have your own spellbook but you had a lesson with your tutor yesterday; you might still have a mental connection to *his* spellbook.
Yes, you can sense it. It's like a second memory filled with spells, magically connected to your mind. Most of these spells are beyond your comprehension but you see some familiar easy ones that you've cast before.
If you can cast Protect these kobolds probably wont even be able to hurt you at all! But Terryn is in the fight too, as his big brother you *have* to protect him.
You conjure a green puff of magefire in your hand, drawing in magic from around you. So far so good.
Kobold: "He's casting a spell! Get him!"
You focus intensely. Orchestrating this spell is mentally demanding. You shape the magic using the spell's algorithm and target Terryn. But you're far too anxious; you cast the spell a moment before it's ready to be released, the whole spell collapses uselessly.
Kobold smacks you with a bone for [red]1 damage.[/red]
Kobold tries to cast Shocking Grasp but fails.
Kobold punches you but fails to hit properly.
Kobold whacks you with a club for [red]2 damage.[/red]
Kobold kicks your shin for [red]1 damage[/red].

The spell didn't work! You're too panicked to try again, you duck down and toss dirt into the eyes of the kobold with the electric spell. He loses control of the spell but refuses to release the energy and tries to force it, he gives himself a big jolt as the uncontrolled energy turns on him. He takes 6 damage and collapses, quivering on the ground.
Kobold swings at you but misses.
Kobold punches you for [red]1 damage[/red]

You fall down, the beating is too much. After you get hit once 5 more fists hit you giving you no time to fight back. Terryn's been knocked down too. You curl up into a ball and try to protect your soft spots as best you can while the nasty kobolds surround you and kick mercilessly. Unable to stand up, and unable to even attempt another spell all you can do is take the beating.

...

>"They kept at it for a while until one of the townspeople happened by and chased them off. He took us both home."
Ulric: "That must have been pretty tough huh?"
Alina: "What happened to the kobolds?"
>"They passed around the plate at the temple to scrounge up some money to pay a band of adventurers to 'get rid of' the kobolds."
Ulric: "They hired adventurers to kill the WHOLE tribe because of what the children did?"
Shawel: "Adults are responsible for the actions of their children. It was just."
Alina: "It might seem cruel, but if you let them get away with violence they'll only get worse."
Shawel: "Is that our goal?"
You look up in the distance, and up ahead see the walls of Tywardreath.
Alina: "We finally made it."
Ulric: "It's HUGE"
Shawel: "A city of the dead."
>"It's been a long journey.

From one of the city gates, a group of 5 horsemen ride out, straight towards you.
Ulric: "Horses? Are they enemies?"

You use the Rod to deploy a Wall of Wind.
It doesn't make you move much faster but it deflects the cavalry archers' hail of arrows quite easily.
The raft suddenly stops dead in the water, Shawel must be suspending its movement to continue hiding behind the Wind Wall.
The undead stop firing, and try to ride further down the river to get a better angle. Shawel makes an Ice Wall emerge from the water to protect your flank.
Ulric: "Skeletons are usually a lot dumber than this."
Alina: "What do you mean?"
Ulric: "I mean normally they go in a straight line towards their target and attack. They don't manoevre like this."

You survey your surroundings. The five riders emerge from the river, they rode underneath the surface and have emerged on the other side. They start catching up with you, seems like they're a bit faster.
>"Try to get away, full speed Shawel."
Shawel cats Control Water and the Raft heaves forward.
Ulric flings a fire ball at them but he misses.
Ulric: "Damn it!"
Pulling in closer one of the skeletons fires. The arrow flies forward striking Alina, and bounces off her harmlessly.
Alina: "Bronze arrows?"
>"These undead weapons are a hundred years out of date. I doubt they can even damage us while we have Protection from Arrows."
You see the light of a flame from one of their bows.
Alina: "They've got fire arrows! Probably other special ammo as well."
Shawel: "If they set the raft alight I will extinguish it immediately."

The riders weave in closer to fire another volley.

If you're trying to escape, where to? If you keep following the river you will curve around the north eastern walls of Tywardreath and then head north away from the city.
The city walls are right next to you, and you've just passed one of the gates. The environment around you is mostly just tall grass.

Ulric: "huh? okay"
Shawel: "They're out of my range."

Alina: "Alright.."
(Evocation: 94+15) You cast Magic Missile perfectly. The skeletal rider isn't able to evade the attack, it smashes him for 14 damage.
Alina shoots a Holy Arrow, hitting the same rider for 36 damage. Although it's far away you can still see light burst out of its skull and ribcage. Utterly destroying it.
Alina: "Ha! They're weak."
The remaining four start charging right at you at full gallop, looks like they plan to trample you. It's probably only half as heavy as a regular horse, but you don't like the idea of getting rammed.
One of them looses an arrow in your midst, explodes with a blinding black smoke. enveloping your whole party.

You raft around the city walls, often seeing patrols of bronze clad skeletons marching along the battlements.
Eventually you reach a strange stone structure, standing in the middle of the river close to the wall.
Ulric: "What is that thing?"

Rolled 52 (1d100)

Hidden.
Enemies passing through.
Resuming operation.

The Spartoi head down the staircase, with Alina following behind. They're apparently uninterested in following her orders.
On the lower floor there's a mostly empty room with some Slime residue. A locked metal door bars the way towards the north gate.

Unknown enemy approaching at low speed.
Defensive positions.

Alina gets out her lockpicks.
Alina: "Okay, I'll have this open in no time..."

Alina needs a 81 or lower to unlock the door in a timely manner.

Alina: "Got it!"

She pushes on the door and it swings open wide. The Spartoi rush through the now open door into this strange structure built into the wall.
A bubbling and squelching comes from the previous room, but you're long gone by the time whatever is making it gets there.
The Spartoi dash from room to room, searching for mechanisms. Soon their path is blocked by some undead guards, one of which has armed itself with Steel Equipment.

Abnormal undead detected.
Estimated threat level: high.

The Spartoi hustle from room to room searching for a mechanism.
They open yet another mechanismless room and turn to leave.
Alina: "Wait, there's a HUGE treasure chest here. It might have some helpful loot inside!"
She steps over to take the chest.

I bet you just want Alina to get sucked so we can get another shot of her rear

This one is tough, we must judiciously act as the Spartoi would. It is vital to remain in character.
Hmmm...

Ooh! Good point!

>Ally is useful, guard it while it makes its sidestop
Ally disarmed the trap after all. Besides, there could be a mechanism in the chest. Yeah, that's it.

I just imagined Alina in that hooded robe going full Assassin's Creed.

Yeah, there is too much at risk and unknown variables.
We have to find that mechanism!
This battle is preventing us from proceeding and cracking up our skulls.
Better to have Crete go out winning than losing.
