>>4002621
You gain a nasty looking ji, its head a sick crescent that combines the dagger-axe and spearpoint into one piece of glistening bronze.

(d150, but gives you ideas for weapon designs as well)

>>4002623
You manage to take the priest's artifact, but it appears useless to you, the priest most likely being an enchanter of some sort. However, you do identify the black metal inside as something new, most likely a higher metal, something you have only heard of in legend. More powerful than base elemental metals, it should be the advanced form of twilite.

>>4002625
You pick up the priest's robes and remove his head as well as some of the trinkets he was wearing. They will fetch a good price, and the head sees you become an officer. On top of that, you gain a map leading to somewhere in the southern jungle... but that can be a story for another time.

>>4002631
The weapon you find is horrifying. Constructed of the same black metal as the trinket as the priest used, at the center sits a large amount of glowmetal, illuminating just how dark the rest of the item is. Swinging it at a nearby tree when you first used it, you watched the bark's color fade, as it cracked and fell to the ground. You're not quite sure what to make of it, but though it is heavy, it fits you well enough...

(d200 for physical combat)

All characters who participated in the war are at 2d now.

With this great war over, your people return to their lives, though a little shocked not just at the small amount of losses, but at a successful conflict. The gnolls have shown no signs of returning, and contact with Opetia has confirmed that they haven't either. The war maps of the gnollish generals, furthermore, has revealed the extent of their lands, though not that of their southern neighbors who Opetia trade with and one of whom the Danzay had conquered. Another bit of news that emerged from the war was the discovery of more "enchanted" Danzay artifacts similar to the ones found in the temples. This has worried some, who believe this is proof that the Danzay have not just enchanters, but smiths capable of producing artifacts similar to those made by enchanters. This process is being called runesmithing, and it does not appear any other nation seems to have this power.

The extensive military reforms of the Redwire family have been enacted by the government, which includes not just upgrades to equipment, but also such things as learning about siege warfare, and the construction of a lake fleet. Some of the more controversial aspects are being debated upon, specifically whether the military priests should be followers of Rok, Ozatl, or both. Nevertheless, both the Guardians of Nichitin and the Heirs of Chalit are born along with a fortified barrack within the capital, watchtowers, and several shipyards. While the time needed to enact the reforms is long, and the costs will be enormous, most seem in favor of the act (7 years for all reforms to be enacted).

A secondary vote for you all:
>Only Rok priests allowed
>Only Ozatl priests allowed

The Old Way Cultural Centre.

In central Nichitin the Drybacks have funded the creation of a large complex of building that would function as a school, gathering place and support centre for those who still follow the Old Path. Tjose who walk the Old Path would find themselves supported by all those who walk it fostering a community based around helping each other. Those of the Old Path would also find themselves less pestered by criminal elements, access to advanced education and preferential loans from the bank.

To this end I will begin hostile takeover operations, buying out other Inns in the area, undercutting the competition with deals and savings, and promoting my Inn on the streets with large marketing campaigns claiming it to be The Best Inn. Any new Inns will become part of the Steinin chain of Inns and will be used as secret meeting locations for the Church of Ozatl. I am dedicating 25 points to this to boost its roll by +25.

FP Year 60: The country has many problems, chief amongst them this pacifistic plague sweeping through our nation during times of crisis. This weakness cannot be tolerated, and surely devout followers of Ozatl know this. The Gnoll Menace threatens us each and every day, and aggression from failing and dying religion must be defended against should it come. To this end, the Church will begin organizing and arming a "Holy Guard", made partially out of members of my existing guard, and new, physically fit, devout followers who with to defend the faith and our race. I am dedicating 25 points to this to boost the roll by +25.

PP: 30 (-20)(-5)

FP Year 60:
Our artisans at the obsidian tooth complex, have spent the last ten years broadening their portfolio. No longer will we just inlay mediocre bronze and copper items with our beautifully cut obsidian, instead the inlaid items themselves will also be true masterworks, forged in the complex by our own master smiths. For this end we have invested much time and money into the training of our smiths, to become masters of bronze (perhaps even glow bronze?) forging, into the raw materials needed for true masterworks and have hired experts from all over to teach us their craft. Now we are (hopefully) in a position to produce brilliantly made and innovative designed weapons and armor, inlaid with the finest obsidian. Some inspiration for designs were drawn from the Ji Rak'tan brought back from the war near the end of the decade.
Spending 20 PP to become the best bronze workers around, on top of gem cutters.

PP Rak'tan Year 60:
Rak'tan has spent the last ten years becoming a master of combat, apart from endless physical exercise, instruction by the best teachers available and meditation, he has also repeatedly ventured into the border into Gnoll lands. Early in the year, the Legs call for a public forum at the Councilhouse, and urge all who can attend to do so. Tens of thousands clamor outside, waiting for... well, whatever it is. The streets are alive, street vendors peddling their spiced bugs. Yet the atmosphere in the air is one of bated breath, anticipation of... something. Notable members of society are in attendance, including members of the Old Way, and several prominent disciples of Ozatl. Eventually, the eight Legs step out of the Councilhouse and onto a wooden platform set up on the grounds before the building. Taking turns to speak, what they say is this.

"Gnoll emissaries have visited us from Danzay, members of the old sun cult that was overtaken by the worship of the gnoll god Taletos. They claim that Ozatl and Taletos are collaborating, and while they offer no evidence, one of them has clearly been severely tortured, which they say is the price they paid for the knowledge. We will not disclose their whereabouts. This is not to be a lynch mob."

The crowd, immediately, is in an uproar, as some call for the heads of the gnolls who speak such lies, and others, while perhaps not comfortable with this information coming from gnolls, quietly affirm to themselves and those who can hear them that they knew it all along—that Ozatl was too good to be true!

Those of you who are gathered here, do you have any questions? What will you do? This could be as simple as getting a bite to eat, or as complex as trying to start a riot.

>>4046793
I shall take to the streets and make a large public speech, intended to ensure the disciples of Ozatl, as well as the rest of the population, that this is a Gnollish lie, being perpetrated to undermine the faith and sow division in our country so that the Gnolls can gain more power over us.

Though other questions were fielded, they resulted in very little of the way of answers. Instead, a riot broke out! While Levsteinin initially kept his people in check, Hashin quickly demanded a public demonstration against Ozatl and Artamono concurred that the two gods were likely linked, which the Prophet could not ignore. Quickly organizing, handing out weapons and such, Levsteinin has proclaimed that both the government and the pacifists are selling the public out to the gnolls! A bitter killing field begins in front of the Councilhouse, a few Legs and many pacifists being cut down by the Ozatl worshippers, before the Redwire warriors and the Black Brood arrive to stop them. Dozens have been killed, and many more are injured, but the followers of the Old Way whisk the gnolls away and secure them in the Bank of Nichitin, a solid structure of stone and marble! As it is now, the streets are still chaotic, and most Legs are either missing or dead. The military is disorganized, some working to quell the violence, others picking sides and either demonstrating with the pacifistic Old Way groups, or bloodying the streets further, though this number is being overwhelmed by the Redwire clan, who appear to have rescued two of the Legs, and are keeping the civilians safe. It appears the Republic has fallen, as even the Councilhouse is ablaze.

Levsteinin is backed up by the Hairybacks and the Metalfangs, both smaller families, but with some influence, with the Hairybacks having a former Leg among them. He also has the support of Rak'tan and his lot, the most famous artisans of the tropical south. Their troops are amassing outside the walls of Nichitin, having been forced out after the riot. Ozatl himself is with them, along with 50 Sentinels.

Hashin, on the other hand, stands alone. However, though the followers of the Old Way are outnumbered by the Ozatl worshippers, the Old Way is only a sect of the Rok worshippers within the nation. These worshippers are less pacifistic, and could easily provide a force for his men to summon up. However, with the enemy at the gates, they are somewhat stuck. The Brotherhood appears to have escaped to Ier in the chaos, and could potentially provide backup if they reach Ier in time.

Lastly, the Nichitin defense forces, disorganized as they are, are made up of Artamono and his guild, some of the army, the Black Brood, and the Redwires. They appear to be only interested in keeping the peace, but are similarly trapped in the city, most Ozatl followers seeing them as complicit by their refusal to turn on Hashin.

The Old Way suffers from the siege, as boats were burnt in the chaos, leaving very little way for people to trickle in. However, rousing music played by the Clan of Zhu as Hashin IV makes a speech results in much of the public being roused. The Republic itself, having little other choice, recruits much the same way and sides with the Rok worshippers, refusing to allow the capital to become a slaughtering ground. While ostensibly more of the public sides with them than with Hashin, they all are fighting for the same cause.

The Ozatl worshippers manage to rouse a greater number quickly due to using the presence of god himself as propaganda... speaking of which...

An ultimatum is issued to the Loyalists, made up of the seperate factions of the Republicans and the Old Way. It calls for the end of hostilities, and reform. Specifically, Hashin will be tried as a traitor and ally of the gnolls, while the government will be reformed so that the Legs are divided into 4 Secularists and 4 Ozatlists.

What say you, Loyalists?

"It was for the people to decide, for Democracy to prevail always. You disregarded all that when you burnt the government building down and killed the elected representatives without trial. The Republic will not fall to this madness."
>>
The ultimatum is promptly rejected, though one thing is noted by the defenders. The messenger is taller, broader, and altogether different from what they expect arachenians to look like. Worse, as the rebel army approaches the gates, they do see with over ten thousand of these figures, and Ozatl himself. The great spider stands as wide as several elephants, and slightly taller than the gates, which range from twelve to fifteen feet tall at any given portion. While the defending army is larger, they are intimidated, as the battle begins!

(How this works mechanically is that bonuses, which are worth double what they normally are, apply directly to an army. Both sides roll three times, and the rolls are added up, along with the bonuses.)

Rebel army: +20 strength, +10 morale, +50 Ozatl

Defending army: +20 numbers, +30 city walls, +20 organization

And the battle begins! Both sides, give me three rolls!

MINOR SUCCESS FOR LOYALISTS

The initial charge at the gate appears to go in favor of the rebels, Sentinels charging towards the gates with large pieces of lumber. However, before they can bash in the doors, spikes of metal drive out of the gates, before returning to their position—they pierce the heads of the oncoming sentinels, and they drop to the dusty ground, dead. However, there is no time to celebrate! Still they come!

(Each turn, both sides can state what they want to focus on doing, similar to battles versus NPCs. This way tactics still plays a major role.)

SUCCESS FOR THE REBELS

Having faith in their god, the more powerful arachenians charge for the gate, speared as they are by arrows and spears. It receives quite a battering, so while it holds for now, who knows how much more it can take? Giants behind it are one thing, but even they cannot prevent the barrier from being battered by clubs and rams! Ozatl marches forward as well, as Levsteinin orders the army to fully break down the gate! A handful of Sentinels even help soldiers up onto the walls, where they begin to combat the archers and spear throwers.

268 vs 238 - MINOR SUCCESS FOR THE REBELS

Ozatl himself is attacking the gates, using his massive legs against the walls of the city. Previously he had been using magic to strengthen his followers, but now, he instead focuses on physically bringing himself into the fray! It holds still, due to the efforts of the loyalists, but the walls are now a battleground all of their own, which was what the rebels were hoping for. They charge forward,

267 vs 187 - SUCCESS FOR THE LOYALISTS

Despite their success at getting onto the walls, the rebels are driven back off, kicked off or killed, their bodies thrown onto their comrades. The gate holds, and what's more, Ozatl is stopped by a combination of Artamono, Nuin, and Alut. The former strengthens the wall and makes it grow, resisting the spider, while the latter jab at the eyes of the great beast, Alut managing to put one out!

288 vs 205 - CRITICAL SUCCESS FOR THE REBELS

The gate crumples inwards as the Ozatlists surge into the city! While they are met with giants, arachenians, and even ghouls, their comrades on the walls have finally broken through, and join them on the streets below. The battle is in the streets now... yet hope is not lost for the Loyalists, who still hold both the numbers and have managed to injure Ozatl. But how long can they fight in the face of such a fearful power?

272 vs 190 - CRITICAL SUCCESS FOR THE REBELS

The rebels are successfully pushing the loyalists further into the city, their wrathful god taking out his anger on the enemy. The loyalist morale is at an all time low, their backs pushed against the wall... yet both armies are now receiving reports of the same thing. An Isarnite army of perhaps 20,000 men is approaching, and is perhaps two days away. Yet there was no word sent to the Ozatlists, their potential allies, which brings caution into Levsteinin's mind. The most you can do at this point is burn the nearest bridge and give yourselves a few more days.
