The Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

The next couple of days were spent laying low at Karla's place playing around with Elisa.

Thankfully, you weren't bothered by any sort of paparazzi or Grunder or OB agents. You had a feeling that it was largely thanks to Tarin keeping a careful watch outside. You did feel rather secure when she was around, even if her presence still unnerved you.

However, your short vacation had finally reached its end, and you had to return to base. However, while you were gone, the brass apparently decided they needed at least one media interview from you. So, you'd have to meet with a reporter to answer some questions. Thankfully, the reporter was vetted and the interview would be carried out on base, in controlled conditions. The interview would also be recorded and not live, just in case the reporter tried to ask too many inconvenient questions.

Elisa had also wanted to tag along to see things. She was currently being taken care of by both Tarin and Bandit.

Well, first things first, you needed to figure out what to wear!

You opted to go with your regular dress uniform, to give yourself that nice look of military professionalism. Plus, it made you look more knightly, too! If there was something the Belkan military didn't lose, it was fashion sense.

"Remember, Red, answer truthfully, but not in a way that will embarrass the military." Bandit reminds you as you brush up in the ready room.

"Yeah, yeah, I get it." You roll your eyes as you give your uniform one final check. "So how do I look?"

"Like a professional." Bandit grins.

"And a NEEEEERD." Elisa teases.

"Haha, that's a cute one, Elisa." You chuckle, suppressing the urge to throw something at her. Not with so many people around.

You continue on to the interview room, where you can immediately see the row of cameras set up to record everything at various angles. Standing in the middle of it all was a fairly attractive, bespectacled brunette woman, her journalist badge hanging clearly on her shirt.

"Milly Welter, I'm Lisa Starrick, from Belka News Network." The woman introduces herself. "It's an honor to meet the Red Tail!"

"Why thank you." You give a neutral smile as you shake Lisa's hand. The name didn't really ring a bell but you never paid much attention to the news anyways.

"Now, if you don't mind, please take a seat and we can get the interview started."

"Sure thing." You nod as you take your seat.

Lisa sits down across from you, legs crossed and eyes locked to her notepad for a moment.

"First things first, you are the same Red Tail that was present at the Embassy rescue, correct? Flying the Su-47?"

"That's correct." You confirm.

"And where did you learn your flying from?"

"Well, I learned a lot of the dogfighting theory from Detlef Fleischer, the Red Swallow." You give a nostalgic smile.

"The Belkan War veteran?" Lisa blinks. "Isn't he a professor at Dinsmark University?"

"That's the one." You nod. "Sure, he's been retired ever since the war, but he still knows his stuff."

"You said he only taught you the theory." Lisa continues, not, missing a beat. "So who taught you your practical skills."

"Well, Karla Weiss, the Valkyrie." You puff up with pride.

Now THAT gets Lisa's attention.

"It was kinda a chance meeting, honestly." You smile. Best not to mention the exact circumstances. But it wasn't really a lie, either.

"A chance meeting?" Lisa leans forward just a bit, her interest piqued. "Can you clarify?"

"Well, it just so happened that me and Karla both had Professor Fleischer as our teacher, and he introduced the two of us to each other."

"I see. I see." Lisa nods. "And what about the Valkyrie drew you to her?"

"I haven't personally seen her fly." Lisa shakes her head. "She's largely retired from flying now, correct?"

"Well, she's not a mercenary anymore, if that's what you mean." You clarify.

"And if I remember correctly, Mr. Fleisher has been on record that he has a low opinion of mercenaries." Lisa looks at you. "Has that affected your relationship with Valkyrie in any way?"

There's a few more minor questions, but the rest of the interview goes off without a hitch. The cameras shut down, Lisa thanks you and leaves her card, and your handlers quickly clear the room. You're sent back to the dressing room where Bandit and Elisa were waiting. Bandit just gives you a neutral look and nods.

You shake the thought out of your head. You had to focus on getting your G-suit on so you could get moving. You've already spent far too much time off the line!

"Milly! Are you gonna be a TV star now?" Elisa asks happily as she trots into the changing room.

Gah! How the hell did she get in here!?

Elisa then stops and stares at you, now dressed in your revealing G-suit. She pauses and then smiles smugly.

"Mommy still looks better in it."

"Get outta here!" You bark, instinctively covering up your chest even though you were already wearing your G-suit. "This place is private for a reason!"

"Like that's gonna keep me ou-oooowwwww!"

Elisa yelps in pain as Tarin's hand reaches in from the door, grabs Elisa's ear, and physically yanks her out of the room. Serves that brat right!

"Red, are you decent?" Bandit asks from outside the door.

"Yeah, why?" You ask.

"I'll be heading straight back to Fort Grays to continue our deployment there. Orpheus should have already gone there as well. You can come with me or link up with Vicky or Misono on the way."

"I guess I can go pick up Vicky." You shrug. "She's up in Nordenvannic, right?"

"It's going to be quite a flight." Bandit nods. "You'll have to fly across Osea, Estovakia, and Emmeria to reach it."

"Jeez, she really does live in the middle of nowhere." You sigh.

"It shouldn't be too bad. All those countries should be friendly to Belka, at least nominally." Bandit shrugs. "But you're more than able to take care of yourself."

"Yeah, I get it." You nod. "Guess I should be going now?"

"Before you get mobbed by adoring fans." Bandit grins.

"Right, right." You chuckle as you look behind Bandit to where Elisa is. "I'll see ya later, twerp!"

"Don't get blown up!" Elisa replies.

Tarin just gives a silent wave.

You then head out to your parked Su-47, board it, and start powering up the engines. As you do so, you wonder how you would travel all the way to Nordenvannic.

Thankfully, your trek over Osea wasn't particularly eventful. However, the problems started when you got near Estovakia. They were unfortunately not keen on letting a lone Belkan fighter fly over their territory. That meant either going north over the empty northern seas, or going south and threading the needle through the narrow sea separating Estovakia and Yuktobania.

Damn, guess you were just gonna have to thread the needle through the southern route. You didn't really have any desire to take a risk in the lonely northern seas in case anything happened.

However, your presence was not unnoticed. As you flew over the Fuscum Sea, straddling the line between Estovakia and Yuktobania, you noticed air patrols from both countries silently tailing you. Guess you couldn't expect a warm welcome from them.

Hopefully Emmeria would be more accommodating. If things went well, you could just cut through Emmeria and head directly for Nordenvannic...

However, you do notice a curious, unidentified contact bearing down on you from behind. Seemed like it was an F-14 or something. That was curious. It wasn't broadcasting an Estovakian or Yuktobanian IFF signal, either.

You had a bad feeling about this.

Suddenly, your radar warning reciever screams at you. That F-14 was spiking you for a long range missile shot!

A quick burst from your afterburners is enough to push you out of range of the F-14's missiles. However, that doesn't stop it from activating its own afterburners to try and chase you down. If you remembered correctly, F-14s were built to be interceptors, so they were extremely fast when it came down to a straight up drag race.

Meanwhile, the patrol planes were finally catching on that something was up and began pursuing the F-14, but it already had a big headstart on them, and they probably wouldn't chase it far. Then again, they were justa as likely to shoot YOU down...

Thankfully, though, it looks like the F-14 jumped the gun, and didn't have quite the speed to negate your headstart on it.

The F-14 then turns around, and seemingly out of frustration, effortlessly eliminates the Estovakian and Yuktobanian planes tailing it. Seemed pretty familiar...

"THERE IS A 87.2% PROBABILITY THAT IS END, BASED ON PREVIOUS BEHAVIOR." Swallow chimes.

"Thanks, I could've used that info sooner." You sigh.

Looks like even without their superplane, END was still after you. What the hell kind of grudge did they have? Did OB really hate you that much?

Thankfully, Emmeria was much more accommodating than its neighbors, and easily lets you pass over its airspace, giving you the breathing room you need to calm down before finally reaching Nordenvannic.

The place was just as chilly and cold as you imagined. Your landing was actually held up for a bit because the ground crews had to clear some snow off the runway. Nobody seems to pay you much mind after you land, but that could easily just be news of your exploits not reaching out here yet.

"Milly!" Vicky waves happily as she jogs through the hangar, bundled up in a fluffy winter coat. "I didn't think you'd come out here!"

You decide to take the chance to look around the base while Vicky recovers. However, as you go around, you quickly realize that the base was rather small. Unlike in Dinsmark, where the airbase there was merely a shadow of its former glory during its heyday in the Belkan War, this Nordenvannic base was tiny and almost rustic.

You suppose this had a lot to do with Nordenvannic being a largely pacifist and neutral country, leaving it with a tiny standing army.

Heh, it must be nice to live in a country with so few problems that you didn't even need an army to protect yourself. You wonder, if things had turned out differently, would Belka be in a similar position?

You guess you'll never know for sure.

With not much else to see, you head back to the infirmary to see to Vicky. You feel a bit at fault making her pass out like that. At this rate, both of you were going to be late to meeting up with Bandit and the others at Fort Grays.

Well, as you sit next to a peacefully sleeping Vicky, in this quiet land of snow and seclusion, maybe that wasn't such a bad thing after all.

"Uuuuuuuuuuu, I can't believe I fainted like that!" Vicky whines over the radio. Even her Gripen trembles in the air as she says those words. "It's so embarrassing!"

"Well, I guess I did go overboard a bit." You halfheartedly apologize.

Currently, you and Vicky were both on the last leg of your trip, from Nordenvannic to Fort Grays. Due to Vicky's little fainting spell, there wasn't really a lot of time to sightsee since apparently there was a big need to head back all of a sudden.

As for that F-14 chasing you, you were pretty damn sure it was END in a backup plane, and Swallow seemed to agree. Nordenavannic's air defense radar confirmed the engagement took place, but it looked like both Estovakia and Yuktobania were keeping it quiet, probably to avoid escalating tensions with each other.

"Still, teasing a girl like that is rude, you know!" Vicky huffs.

"What are you talking abou-" You pause, as the realization bubbles up like acid in your gut. "Swordfish! Go evasive! NOW!"

You turn your attention to your radar screen. Sure enough, you could see two small blips signifying long range missiles converging on Vicky's Gripen. It had to be END again. What a low move aiming for Vicky first!

Vicky immediately banks hard into an evasive roll while you swing your fighter around. LAAMs were big and heavy missiles. You had a shot at taking them out midair to save Vicky, or you could trust Vicky's skills and go straight after END, who would be vulnerable by having to hold position to guide the LAAMs.

As you burst into the clouds, you find that lady luck was on your side! You end up on the flank of a black F-22, undoubtedly END in yet another plane, getting a perfect line of fire! No wonder you didn't pick up anything on radar!

Your quick reaction is rewarded with a shower of sparks and fire as your bullets dig into END's F-22, riddling the fuselage with holes, but they are able to bank sharply away.

"R-Red! I'm reading more missiles incoming!" Vicky yelps. "At least four more shooters!"

Crap! So END wasn't alone this time, and they were all gunning for Vicky?!

"It's fine! I can handle it!" Vicky insists. "Go get END!"

You're not sure if she was just saying that so you wouldn't worry about her.

Suddenly, END pulls an impossibly fast cobra maneuver, evading your attempts to lock on. You're left having to respond to the sudden move by deploying all your flaps to bleed off enough airspeed to make a high G turn. However, it looked like END was once again going for Vicky!

Vicky meanwhile had managed to use a combination of flares and her Gripen's nimbleness to avoid the fresh missiles, forcing the shooters to reveal themselves. F-35s. More stealth fighters! Thankfully, their movements were slightly delayed and sluggish. More drones, you suspect.

Unfortunately, END had already gotten a big head start on you. Getting to them before they reached Vicky was going to be tough.

Fortunately, your missiles hit straight and true, striking END's F-22 directly in the rear and completely blowing out one engine.

Immediately, all four of the F-35s tangling with Vicky switch priorities and make a beeline straight for END, no doubt to protect them from followup attacks.

"Roger!" Vicky affirms as her Gripen closes in as well.

Both you and END trade cannon fire. More rounds punch into END's already ruined F-22, while END fires off a frighteningly accurate burst, punching holes around your air intakes. A stray round even glances off your canopy, cracking it! Was that just a lucky shot or was END deliberately aiming for you?

Regardless, neither of you are in any condition to continue the fight. END immediately moves to disengage after passing you, the drone F-35s keeping close to discourage you and Vicky from pursuing.

"It's finally over!" Vicky breathes a sigh of relief. "To think they'd try to ambush us out here!"

"END is certainly pretty dedicated." You frown.

"I HAVE HIGH CONFIDENCE END HAS SOME SORT OF PERSONAL VENDETTA AGAINST YOU." Swallow observes.

Well, you sorta figured that. Was END someone you knew?

"Anyways, good job, Swordfish." You say. "You did good out there."

"All I did was manage to survive." Vicky sighs. "I need to do better, do more than that!"

Well, you guess you and Vicky could figure that out once you got back to Fort Grays...
