“Sooo...is it me or did that seem a bit...easy? All things considered?” Lorelei asks. Funny how she’s asking that considering she came out of the initial scuffle the most damaged. Or indeed, damaged at all.

Still, an understandable, if ultimately simple question. “You really think she wasn’t just probing defenses?” you ask.

“Well, probably, but if she was probing defenses, she would’ve probably sent a few more heavy hitters, right?” she points out. “Might just be me.”

“You have a valid worry,” Izumi notes. “But I’ll admit, what I dealt with sounded more in line with your expectations, so…”

“I’m back with the Arc girl,” Gartoum says casually. “She had an idea- I’ll simply speak FOR her to keep anyone approaching from overhearing us- if anyone besides them DOES, that is.

Yeah...here’s hoping there’s only the one.

...and the flash of shadow that isn’t shadow- form where there wasn’t one before- is what gives it away. They’re darting between trees, but there’s no other option for them but to charge if they want to get anywhere close to your side of the house. “I’ve got a visual on hostiles.”

“Likewise, far to my right,” Izumi confirms. “They might be trying to simply bash the door down.”

“Might be!” Gartoum weighs in. “Arc’s noticed a few coming in at an angle away from her, as well…guess they’re wanting to make up for earlier. Not that we won’t have our own issues to worry about, mind. Seems they didn’t take kindly to getting stabbed.”

“Few do,” you note.

>>
>>3978499
Uh. It's called a Honey Trap and it's a very common strategy to draw people out of cover, by the way.
>>
>>3978520
Threatening the hostage is fine, and I'm not shy against making the threat more real. An anon pointed out that we would have to send someone away from the siege if we're coming to her. Might as well make her come to us.
>>
>Cover the cabin with Great Barrier
>Now they have to focus Miranda with their heavy hitters

>????
>PROFIT
>>
>>3978535
Barrier is on a timer, isn't it? A considerable on, but on the order of maybe minutes, not tens of minutes
>>
>>3978535
Does Great Barrier even stretch that far? Last time we used it it was for trapping Junko for a getaway.

And this anon pointed out >>3978539. This is a siege, the barrier's not gonna last. That's why I didn't suggest reinforcing the cabin with mini barriers. At most we can fix the busted down spots with the gauntlets.
>>
>>3978539
Pastebin says it can be mainteined if we focus on it, so we could just recall Gartoum and other girls to protect us.
>>
>>3978535
>>3978542
Hmm, if you are concerned about the size, then swap GB with Izumi's Rajomon and protect her while she maintains it. Can hook her to condenser if she starts getting low on mana
>>
>>3978553
Oh boy, I'm not for that sorry, too risky? Miranda/Izumi is a considerable force and the siege will struggle without her. Good idea though, assuming we can stretch the barrier that far. Even then it will make Miranda or Izumi exhausted for a while, right before Junko descents. I mean what's wrong with just forcing her hands by threatening the hostages?

Why are we even discussing this lol we're not that far into the battle yet to see that she's not coming.
>>
>>3978553
In addition, Izumi's Hope is extremely effective against shadows, so they'd probably get damaged from contact with it. That way we don't need to defend the entire house - just the person shielding the house. Then we can just give a seither crystal to the person maintaining it for a quick pickmeup when the Queen arrives.
>>
>>3978553
We can call that "Plan B". We're hoping to draw the queen herself in. If we go into full lockdown, we're going to end up in a proper siege situation, as opposed to our current "assault defense" situation. They could easily wait us out if they wanted to.
>>
>>3978566
Ya know, you can just have the person maintaining the barrier INSIDE the barrier? So we don't have to worry about her
>>
>>3978566
>>3978574
>>3978576
Actually, I think we can lure her to the cabin, erect a barrier and trapping her with all 5 of us in close quarters. She should be dead within minutes.

Assuming she can't teleport.
>>
>>3978576
It's a double edged sword - the Queen won't take the chance if there's no chance to begin with.
>>

You’re quick to hear your fellows (and Arc) strike out as shouts and sounds of magic and energy fill the air again. It seems like the mass is larger for certain this time, and you’re not very confident that it won’t be increasing; whatever kinda mojo she’s packing, she’s slinging all of it. It’s several magiblasts that start your end of things, a quick flurry blasting the first wave off their feet, leaving several miniature craters between the trees.

A massive explosion- one of your mines- goes off to your left, and that triggers two more off to your right as well; seems like they CAN be triggered by these shadows, which is a relief. Part of you was worried that it wouldn’t happen. “My my, they’re stepping things up rather quickly…” Gartoum mutters through your link. You can hear a few explosions going off behind the house, but you’re not in a position to guess what’s happening.

You can see a flash of Izumi’s blade, real and ready nearby as she closes into melee with a number of rushing shadow spawn; she flips over a number of them and lands to split one head to toe, and quickly spins to cut down the ones that had gotten past. Her arc reaches the majority, but there’s a number that manage to thrust themselves forward enough to escape the reach of her blade- at least briefly. Still, it’s enough for her to have to pursue, jumping in front of them to cut off their path through the door, and forcing her to begin something of a run and gun defense, constantly having to reposition in order to intercept the rushers attempting to blow past her.

You have to turn around in order to focus on your own work, however, and it’s good timing when you do- amidst a fleet of shadows, many of them those weird humanoid types. Although, when you see one of them raise their hands and appear to cast...something...on its fellows that make their dim eyes suddenly get a vicious orange glow, you get the feeling that these are already a good step up from the usuals- just in time to see a quartet charge you, all of them coming at different angles. You fire off a pair of magiblasts- only to have them duck one- and the other is hit in the shoulder, shearing the elbow on down off...only for it to continue coming, a shadowy smoke coming out of its ‘stump’ in a strange way. Damnit...

First rule of mixed combat engagements: ‘If there’s a mage, kill them first.’ Unless there’s a healer, in which case kill THEM first, then the mage. Point is, magic users need to go first. In this case, it’s time to fight fire with fire. And you’ve got one hell of a lighter.

Drawing your rapier, you quickly put it to use, pointing and firing a good basketball sized blast with minimal effort. The resulting eruption detonates a bit close for your tastes, but it annihilates the charging shadow creatures that try to scatter well enough. A second one decimates the tree you aimed at entirely, a massive cloud of dirt getting thrown up alongside a massive amount of splinters.

Still, those aren’t your target. The spellcaster that was trying to hide is the problem. He seems to at least recognize that he needs to keep cover- and while you saw it go flying, it was a jump, you’re pretty sure. Still, you don’t think it can keep that pace up forever...but you can. Which is why a proper salvo might well be the order of the day.

The area rocks with explosions as you fire off one after another, decimating shadows that even dare to peek out; your own symphony of destruction is backed by explosions on the opposite end of the house, although it’s clear Izumi is less than enthused with your choice of tactic, having her own issues with essentially playing goalkeeper. “Just what are you trying to do?!” she complains. “Rip the entire forest asunder?!” You’re not sure if she’s particularly mad- she doesn’t SOUND like it, but still…

“Holy shit, March, is everything okay over there?” Lorelei suddenly asks through comms.

“She’s doing ‘her’ things,” Izumi grumbles as the shadows start to taper off again, and a bit of quiet returns to the area. “Ignore the explosions- not that YOU’RE not doing a capable imitation.”

“Arc wants you to know that all is well on this front,” Gartoum chimes in. “Had a close shave or two, but nothing severe.”

Well, that’s good, at least.

Well, all well so far, knock on wood. “Then we’re all good so far?”

“Seems so,” Izumi says as she cuts down a lone shadow, rendering the area quiet again...and it seems you’re not the only one puzzled by that fact, judging by how she looks at the treeline. “I’m surprised the onslaught stopped again. Why waves and not a continuous siege? The first attempt being something of a probing strike makes sense, but why pull back now? Has she come up with a new tactic?”

“She better!” Lorelei mocks. “Can’t get me off guard but once! They’re not getting anywhere closer to the cabin again.”

“Likewise,” Izumi agrees. “It got a bit troublesome there, but we’ve done well enough so far. Still...it’s odd.”

“Maybe she has to focus her energy or something?” Lorelei postulates. “Like, she can’t do it at this level for very long or else she gets exhausted?” Hmm…

“Arc says she has a theory on that front,” Gartoum says from out of nowhere. “She claims that perhaps due to the despair field surrounding the city, she’s far more powerful whenever she has to do anything within in than without. She’s pretty sure this is the case, although she’s not one-hundred percent confident.”

“Huh...so if that’s the case, then Lorelei might be right on the money,” you surmise. “Which means there’s no way that she can keep this pace…we just have to hold out until she cracks and comes here to try and deal with us personally. Stakes are too high for her to not.”

“Y’think she can hear us?” Lorelei asks. “I want her to know how much her shadows suck!”

Kanna is a way better target; remember that she made a raid for her, not marie. Hell, Yuu is the best target for that because she's junko's BFF (But i'm not sure miranda knows that).

I do not like unnecessary murderhoboing like >>3980687 suggested, for the moment. It's important to not blow our load early, but hurting them should force her hands, and if we do so, we start with one.

But I'm not supportive of this for now, since we still don't know where Junko is.
>>
>>3980715
>unnecessary murderhoboing
You know, I don't get what you mean by this when they're are all secondary targets that we were told we can kill for bonus pay. If this were from Izumi's perspective that would be indeed OOC, but we're playing Miranda's perspective right now and she doesn't care about that sort of thing. So why not make use of their deaths while they're here to distract the primary target?
>>
>>3980726
For the moment anon, for the moment.

>So why not make use of their deaths
And you just upscaled from just wounding them all to outright murder, yikes. See, if we do as you say, we BURN our entire supply of bargain chips, and Junko can fully commit to us, with fully charged mana and rage and we don't have anything to hide behind.

If we locate her first however, we can finish a wave and just storm her while she's charging. That way she will be caught off guard with less than full charge, and we don't have to wait for her to come to us. And believe me, I bet she's rather close to this site.
>>
>>3980726
We've got enough stuff stacked in our favor, no need to rush things. The post says that Junko will come eventually once she realizes that her only chance is to do the job herself. Why are you in such a hurry?
>>
>>3980430

not yet, I'm voting against this one courtesy of >>3980751. Lull her into thinking she can outlast us and then stomp
>>3980758
Okada's maid, suspected to be recharging Junko
>>
>>3980726
Because Marie’s the adopted niece of a powerful businessman, and she’s worth keeping alive so the higher ups can influence him.
>>
>>3980676
Kanna and Yuu just betrayed Junko while Marie was in contact with Junko.

Miranda was there for that, and knows Marie was updating Junko.

>>3980751
This guy gets it. Since Junko probably wants to mindfuck or kill the two who betrayed her, Marie is the one who stayed mad loyal.

So she's the one we have to put in danger to force Junko to throw everything she can at us in a desperate attempt to get Marie out before she dies.

Marie is going to die anyways, and Izumi should know that ending Junko here and now means more lives saved. Especially since we don't know if Junko is trying to save or silence Kanna and Yuu.

>>3980676
Also Kanna isn't technically one of the targets, and we promised her safety in exchange for selling out Junko.

I don't see any Outgoer being in the habit of breaking deals.

You can't just accuse me of baiting because I didn't read the other quest and don't give a fuck if we kill the girls.

Hell, this is just wounding them and like you said, if Izumi has a problem with it she can heal them afterwards so they're nice and healthy when we kill them.

They're fucking mobster scum, IMO, they're lucky we don't feed them spaghetti.
>>
>>3980776
That's not the contract. But sure, we can sell her into a life of slavery as a hostage I guess. After we heal her from the gut shot, and IF the Organization wants her alive.
>>
>>3980785
That reminds me, what if we force Junko to give herself up as a test subject in exchange for the hostages' lives?

Think about it. They won't be able to resist such an unique specimen, and they will definitely pay us way more for a living Queen on their operating table.

>>3980484
tossing a vote to call the spooks as well
>>
>>3980484
Finding her is our job. It's a significant part of our time spent here, and is why we're doing this shadow defense thing in the first place. Why would they be able or willing to find her?
>>
>>3980846
The cabin's outside of the city so they can send scouts very easily, we're very close and they want the Queen as badly as we do. I also think just asking won't hurt, they must have some kind of detector for Despair so if there's a giant blob of Despair near us that's not the bubble in the city they'll know immediately.
>>
>>3980780
We've made a deal with Junko that as long as we do not harm the hostages she won't try to make any moves to reveal ourselves as Org agents. Your suggestion to injure a relative of the guy who runs for mayor could put our Low Profile Rider at risk. I'd rather wait it out rather than rush the job and risk a cut in our pay.
>>
>>3980860
>The cabin's outside of the city so they can send scouts very easily
Not sure how that's relevant. We don't know if she has to be nearby to summon or control them.
>they must have some kind of detector for Despair
If they had that, they wouldn't have needed to hire very expensive mercenaries to find her.
They're not going to do our job for us.
>>
>>3980803
> They won't be able to resist such an unique specimen, and they will definitely pay us way more for a living Queen on their operating table.

How do we know this?
>>
>>3980882
We're leaving after this, and the deal was over once she sent her shadows after us.
>>
>>3980882
Also, we can heal her after.

Although once again we're going to kill Junko, Yuu, and Marie because that's the contract - unless our employer wishes to renegotiate.
>>
>>3980912
They took Natalia off our hands when we told them, rather then tell us to kill her, no reason why they wouldn’t do the same with the other hostages.
>>
>>3980958
More work, same pay. If they paid a bonus for 'alive' it might be worth the effort. But they're not.
>>
>>3980969
At this point, we did all the work of capturing them, killing them would essentially mean players wasted a whole bunch of time and effort.
>>
>>3981003
Well, they fell in our laps for the most part, but yes, our lucky dice are to credit.
>>
>>3981003
Still easier to off them. There's literally no downside. Yes, really. We already had the talk with Izumi.
>>
>>3980958
Eh, if they're willing to take them alive sure but none of that keeps us from putting them in a life threatening situation.

Heck, we could always just shout out to Junko first that if she doesn't come out to play we'll shoot Marie, and then only shoot her if Junko still plays coy. We don't have to escalate all at once.

And then if shooting Marie (to wound, not immediately fatal) doesn't work then we move on to Yuu.

Like I said, Kanna isn't on the list and she flipped on Junko so I don't think Miranda or Lori would break the deal to not hurt her. Well, Lori might argue that so long as they heal Kanna after it's not technically breaking their word.
>>
>>3981095
They should die, yeah, but there's no need to be cruel unless we have a reason to; Randa is pragmatic, not a sadist. We're not on a timer or having a hard time fending them off at the moment. If that changes then we can (and should) consider more unpleasant measures.
>>
>>3981153
We are in a reactive position though, which is bad. That's why I want to put Junko on a timer so that she is forced to make compromises that will give us opportunities to take her out
>>
>>3980621
Feels more like she'd take over, but then again, paycheck, can't hurt the client.

Seems like Anon always likes to ignore the choice that isn't 'don't get payed for leaving them alone' and ' need to kill for extra pay.'
Dropping targets off at base, or have them be transported there is also a possibility.
Anon keeps pushing to kill people, not sure why really. To piss off the reat of the players? Make a point? Did their dog die laat week? Or are they just ignorant to all the alternatives provided?

I mean, this isn't anon saying 'Lets torture our hostages', anon is saying 'lets kill our hostages.'
>>
>>3981515
Because we don't get to do it enough. We went on a job specifically to kill our targets and a bunch of ninnies get queasy and spend all their energy on finding ways to avoid performing our primary objective.

Miranda is a stone cold professional can't we fucking act like one for once without white knights trying to be something else?
>>
>>3981558
sure, but killing them right now, in this very moment is pointless.
the main advantage of killing them would be because it's a drag to move them to a safe location and wait for a recovery team, but since they are already in the safehouse and the anons decided to be idiots by calling junko to it, there is no real difference between letting them die and turning them alive. I mean, there are more chances of receiving a bigger bonus for delivering alive than dead and at this point is worth a shot.
>>
>>3981581
> I mean, there are more chances of receiving a bigger bonus for delivering alive than dead and at this point is worth a shot.

I haven't heard anything from the Institute about this, nor do I remember us getting a bonus for turning that other girl in.

I don't really give a damn about how they end up so long as we get paid and don't hire any of them though.
>>
>>3981581
Oh, and killing one of them, or wounding one so they'll die wihout medical attention, is to rush Junko so she can't bait us out or infiltrate with shadows etc.

Sure, she might be weak AF but there's that low visibility rider and Miranda has already redecorated the landscape in a meteor shower style so I figure we're cutting it close on that one.

Even this far out, we're gonna see a response to the fireworks, especially in Japan where they have a huge fear of fires starting.

>“Of course, the assassination of the source of this will be a great boon,” Fujin explains as he knits his fingers together. “But we’re also fairly certain that whoever she is, she has allies. If they cannot be restrained, then…we must consider action towards those individuals as well, depending on their loyalty.”
>“Of course,” Izanami starts. “You’ll get paid more if’n you can confirm one o’ the Shadow Queen’s assets and take ‘em out.”
>>
>>3981581
The anons who called junko and the anons who want to kill the hostages are not necessarily the same 'nons.
I'm pretty sure we threatened to chop up her friends and mail them to her, wasn't that if she followed us?
>>
>>3981606
That's more if she brought it into the public eye.
>>
>>3981603
Yeah, so we get paid more per person we kill. Nothing about kill vs turn in.

If anything that's more incentive to kill as many of them as possible.

But this is Izumi's gig that she asked Miranda to come along on, so I presume we're only killing the minimum necessary.

Marie, Junko, Yuu, so far.
>>
>>3981623
its implied in the text that they'd rather get the marks alive.
>If they cannot be restrained, then…we must consider action towards those individuals as well, depending on their loyalty.
>>
>>3981558
This, pretty much. Randa has wiped cities. 3 people is nothing.

>>3981581
>there are more chances of receiving a bigger bonus for delivering alive than dead and at this point is worth a shot.
No, there's not. If they haven't agreed yo pay extra for alive, they're just gonna go "thanks" and leave.

>>3981603
>“You’ll get paid more if’n you can confirm one o’ the Shadow Queen’s assets and take ‘em out.”
Take them out means kill, anon.

>>3981629
If they're not paying more, it doesn't matter what they'd prefer.
>>
Uuuuh, I hate to be a broken recorder but from here
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/3872501
>Back then, we found ourselves unable to SCRY
>We have bits and pieces of information thanks to the sacrifice our agents have made, but we need more intelligence on just how bad the situation is before we can do anything to assist in recovery.

This confirms they can scry Despair spots to assist if given enough info. If Junko is out of the bubble they can paint a target for us.
If she's still in the bubble, we proceed as usual.
>>
>>3981629
No, they just don't want us going on a murder spree and then claiming we need to be paid per kill.
>>
>>3981649
So what are we doing here? Yes, retirement job.
Who is the target? Shadow Queen a.k.a. Junko Kurosaki.
What is the mission statement? Investigate and uncover who is the shadow queen. And we did it.

Now we go in, kill Junko, get paid and get out. If you want to kill hostages which I dunno if there's a Geneva convention here which is probably ignored considering the firepower and amount of magical bullshit means we can just do anything right? So let's blow a mountain, raze the forest, kill the hostage and then the Shadow Queen will go to us and kill us with our stupidity. That way we fail this job and then make the world we contracted to fall under her tyrannical rule.

First of all, you are arguing that has already been established to. We defend the Outpost for the incoming SQ from the invading shadows. If we really want to just let the Queenie go to us directly, we (Miranda) could just accompany Izumi while Lori executes Mari. Because who cares that this is Izumi Quest amirite? Then we kill the SQ in her fit rage, Make Izumi fight her or gang her up and deliver her body (shadow tend to dissapate when defeated) to the official where they would do whatever they want.

OR

We could stop arguing, let's the dice roll do the work and move the narrative and base our actions on what to do next. Or we could let Izumi/Lori scout and Gartoum to cover the missing spot. Since we already rigged the hostage with explosive, they won't do anything stupid.
>>
>>3981657
>What is the mission statement? Investigate and uncover who is the shadow queen.
And remove her associates for a bonus a head.
>>
>>3981629
> it's implied

Not how contracts work.
>>
>>3981664
Also take out tainted MGs which is why Izumi took the job.

She asked Miranda along because Izumi knew there would be some killing needed.

Y'all really want to leave Marie behind to become Junko 2.0?
>>
>>3981668
and it has also been shown that by doing a little bit of extra work that wasn't on the contract -a.k.a. secondary and tertiary side missions- we get more motes. At this point everyone is just wanting to get less money just because of a murderboner.
>>
>>3981657
>Because who cares that this is Izumi Quest amirite?
It's not fucking Izumi Quest. She brought us along to do what she didn't want to. We've talked to her about needing to kill them. She agreed they need to die.

>>3981669
Not our problem. We could deal with her as well, I guess. But what happens after we leave is not our issue.

>>3981671
see
>>3981668
>>
>>3981677
yes, but 200+ years of experience combined between the three girls (and all the previous missions we have done) tell us how things really are. do the sidequests that aren't implied on the contract and you get extra money.

Either way delivering the girls alive is the same as delivering dead, except that by turning them in alive there is a way higher chance of getting extra money than dead.
>>
>>3981679
Anon, quit trying to justify overturning something Randa herself stated is going to happen, and Izumi agreed to. The die is cast. Their fate is sealed.
>>
>>3981679
>>3981685
You know, maybe we can just call the Org to see if they prefer them dead or alive and restrained?
>>
>>3981689
>Randa herself stated is going to happen, and Izumi agreed to.
>>
>>3981685
no, that's regarding arc. she's still gonna die because those were direct orders. Don't confuse stuff.

what i'm saying is that the rest of the girls can be turned alive, and should be turned alive because there is a higher chance of getting more money. either way, the effort we do is the same.
>>
>>3981690
>those orders were only regarding arc.
anon, come on.
>>
>>3981685
>Wanting to kill so much you're unwilling to call up a single phone number to see if you get paid extra for keeping people alive for brainwashing.

Man, anon, at least gather the curiosity to see if there's a bonus, not asking about extra pay's for amateurs.
>>
>>3981692
Last time this was brought up when anons were trying to kill arc they said it was only for the other 3. Make up your minds.
>What is up with you trying to save our MARKS?!”
plural
> that something can be done to resolve it peacefully- something that doesn’t end in the death of fellow magical girls. I mean, look at Arc!
implies Arc was included initially
>“...look, I can understand the Kanna girl, I guess,” you allow. “She’s not on the list, so hey. But she’s involved now. And none of them are innocent.” You put your hand on her shoulder, and she doesn’t brush it off. “You know that. They need to die.”
>And none of them are innocent
implies group, not singular.
>>
>>3981698
>not asking about extra pay's for amateurs.
and that's how we lost the chance to get paid extra for arc's demise.
>>
>>3981701
oh, so now you want to imply stuff.

But ok.

Now, what is the downside from turning them alive now? we already have them and they prefer that we turn them alive. we have nothing to lose from doing that.
>>
>>3981706
>implying
if we're going to squabble over who 'they' was, we gotta look at context clues. Or wait for Handler to get back.

>But their time WILL come. It’s an inevitable thing.
how much more explicit do you need?
>>
>>3981706
The Org said they could get an evac vehicle to the cabin in just 15 minutes, that's pretty damn quick. We can either start wounding them or just call evac, slip the damp off Marie and Junko'll know she's not getting them back anytime soon if she doesn't show herself. I can am not against turning them in alive.
>>
>>3981709
and just like how >>3981714 says, the organization very gladly took natalya out of our hands and even payed us for that. that should be enough to reason that they also accept them alive. Either way in those 15 minutes after the fight we will be either licking out wounds or taking a breather; its basically wasted time.

to be fair, shooting marie in the gut isn't a bad idea. as long as she survives. otherwise we lose our only bargain chip.
>>
>>3981754
We've still got 2 others if she bites it. But I doubt that'll happen on accident.
>>
>>3981758
the other two already betrayed her. Given that we know how irrational she can be, do you think she cares about them at the moment?
>>
>>3981749
This is why I'm always quick to post my approval of other anons' ideas. Maybe next time?
>>
>>3981769
Yeah, a little late to fix it now I guess.

Tried to compromise on *telling* Junko we were gonna shoot Marie if she didn't come out first, but people were so upset about shooting her it sidetracked back into "Who Gets Killed" argument.

Like damn. I explicitly don't want anyone killed. Yet.
>>
>>3981788
To be honest I didn't know how shooting Marie won since it's very mixed. It's not disastrously bad mind you, but it's not the most optimal by far. A lot of better ones had been posted but people somehow didn't vote for any of them much.
>>
>>3981764
I figured it was more a 'break your leg' kinda thing, rather than a 'you're dead to me' thing. But she certainly seems crazy enough.

Oh well. I'm interested to see Arc's reaction, as well as Yuu and Kanna's.

Like. We aren't here to fuck around or play games. This should drive that home.
>>
>>3981739
Oh yeah! Remember to remove the block between Marie and Junko's psychic link or whatever first - don't want to wonder why she isn't responding.
>>
>>3981821
We were playing dumb about knowing about her mental link. That would tip our hand, though I dunno if that really matters.
>>
>>3981828
If we didn't remove it, what would be the point of shooting her in the first place?
>>
>>3981828
It doesn't actually, not at this stage.
>>
>>3981828
>That would tip our hand
Not really. originally we blocked her link to avoid being in the situation we already are, so its a moot point.
>>
Hm. You doubt that’ll do much to get her attention- she seems principled, if deluded. Some simple insults aren’t going to cause her to come running in a rage. If you wanted that to happen, you’d need to do something that she considered...

...time sensitive...hm. “I’ll be right back,” you tell Izumi and Arc. “April, meet me inside real quick.”

“Hm? What are you doing?” you hear Izumi ask.

“Accelerating things,” is all you say back.

Well, you can’t say you don’t have an idea. And after some careful musing on it (and by careful, you mean about the time it takes for you to go from your position to the front door, and you’re honestly fairly surprised that the noise hadn’t seem to wake any of them up. They ARE still alive, right…?

Lorelei steps in as you listen in close; they’re all breathing, so they’re still in the land of the living for now, yeah. Might be that the mana drain took it out of them. Would make sense enough to you, at least...but you need a certain someone awake for this to work out well. “So, what’s up?” Lorelei asks. “They’re still will us?”

You nod. “Yup. Way I figure it, she might need a bit of an extra incentive to really WANT to get out of her ‘comfort zone’, so to speak.” You take a glance at the sleeping Marie- she’s still out of it, but you’ll change that soon enough. “Mind if I borrow ‘Molly’?”

She hands it over to you easily enough, then darts off with a quick “I’m getting a glass of water!” Fine. Might as well wake her up with a shock to the system.

Oh, right, nearly forgot- need to take this dampener off her if you want her message to go out. That’d just ruin the purpose of it. Now, you just need to wake her…

“Hey, she’s not up yet?” you turn around, to see Lorelei...sipping on a glass of water.

She has the gall to look surprised. “...what? I SAID I was getting a glass of water.”

...turning back to your captive, you decide to simply settle on slapping her about a bit. Fortunately, that does the trick just as well, and she groggily wakes up. “Wwhwha? You! H-how long have I been out?”

“Iunno, about an hour or more?” Lorelei shrugs. “But, we’re here for a reason.”

“Last words, mostly,” you say easily as you lift the pistol. Her lips part briefly, and then her lips thin as she scowls at you. “Got any?”

She’s silent for a moment before she spits. “Do it. I’ll see you in hell.”

“Unlikely,” you quip, and a shot rings out that jars the other two awake and echos throughout the house.

(cont.)
>>
>>3981853
She jumps hard as the bullet impacts; there’s no REAL place in the gut that’s not deadly eventually, but if you got your anatomy right... “We’re in no hurry, so it should at least take a minute to bleed out, superhuman or not. Gives you a last chance to repent on your way out.” She just grunts heavily, straining herself to not scream at the pain as she writhes.

“Oh- oh shit…” Yuu panics as she realizes what she woke up to. “Shit...shit…”

“God no, oh please god no…” Kanna begs, mouth dry and reedy.

“S-screw both of you,” she growls. “I-If I have to, then...then it’s fine! Junko never...she felt so much WORSE…” Her hissing with clenched teeth kinda undersells her devotion, though…

Well, regardless of what they have to say to each other, you’re just hoping Junko takes the bait…

And that’s when Izumi bursts in. “What did you just do!?” Not that she doesn’t know what a gunshot sounds like, far from it, but… “Oh...oh damnit…” Her face twists into something like she’s bitten into a sour lemon but doesn’t want to admit it, and she only half-starts toward the girl before stopping. Good, she remembers the talk.

You're not wrong, but the exact timing would depend on the exact positioning and severity of the wound. In any case, they are debilitating wounds.

>>3981985
It's pretty straightforward. There's nothing vital in your gut, but the flora, acids, and core muscles in the area mean they are prime candidates for infection, and trying to move causes incredibly intense pain.

>>3981994
Yeah, basically there is a lot of shit, "dirty" blood and literal shit that is contained in your gut that you don't want to reach your "clean" bloodstream and other healthy parts of your body.

You step away wordlessly from the bleeding girl, hand Lorelei her pistol back, and walk outside easily as you pat a distressed Izumi on the shoulder. “Accelerating things,” you whisper to her. Pulling back, you jerk your thumb outside. “Come on. Still got work to do, don’t you?” With that, you step outside and wait.

You get the feeling Junko’s not going to waste any more time on simple shadows. You hear footsteps behind you, and you expect her to say SOMETHING…

A muttered “It IS what I brought you here for…painful though it may be...” isn’t what you were quite expecting, though.

“I heard a gunshot,” Arc says, actually within audible range now as she jogs up to you. “What happened?”

“March isn’t one to draw things out,” April explains with a smirk, “So she decided to put a timer on the whole thing. Now Miss Shadow Queen has to beat OUR clock.”

“Ohhh?” Gartoum seems curious about it. “Well well. How viciously devious. I approve!”

“Dangerous, but understandable…” Arc decides. “Be cautious, though. Strong as you are, I’ve still never seen someone use Despair quite like her…”

A chill comes through the air before much longer, however, and you can smell...power. Strong power, too. You’re impressed that she got here under a half hour. You let out a cough as the rank smell infiltrates your body; she’s not like her subordinates. Girl can actually pack a punch, seems like.

“You...BASTARDS…” comes from out of nowhere as shadows boil and burble along the thin, but consistent treeline, seeming to coalesce several meters in front of you. “You will give her- ALL of them- back to me NOW. Or I’ll make you regret you ever being born…”

“Like we haven’t heard that one a million times,” Lorelei scoffs. “Come out here so we can send you along with ‘em!”

Arc, for her effort, draws her spear. “I’m normally not so vindictive, but I’d like to personally give you my...resignation from your organization.”

The shadows suddenly still, then in the middle of them, a large bubble, almost cocoon like rises up from the ground. For a moment, there’s nothing. Then… “There’s only one way out for you. For ALL of you. DIE!” And the moment it pops is the moment you realize the fight is on.

She can make decoys.
Flux Wave then Mana Knuckles to the face.
>>
>>3982054
But doc, Flux Wave hits our team too.
>>
>>3982040
Well, that worked rather quite well.

Stuff we got last thread from the girls:
> “...she can use both. Despair and Hope energy. She isn’t hurt by Hope energy as much as normal.”

>“...s-she hates being reminded of when she was imprisoned. Betrayed. She loses sight of everything else. Blind rage.” Yuu lets out. “S-she can shapeshift, too. Just the look, though. And only humans.”

>“...She’s really good with magic.

>“I...I know she can move in shadow. Make...make clones of herself that have a little of her power. Like a puppet she’s controlling in the distance.”

Those seem to be the major points.
>>
>>3982052
Holy fuck that's perfect.
>>
>>3982058
Meh.

Her team is bigger with all those shadows, and we can warn ourt team. Have that slut Arc anti-magic zone them while we flux and then turn it off.

Miranda:
>Put up a great barrier over the cabin
>tell Gartoum to watch over said cabin
>consume one small seither crystal,
> bring out our flame+gravity sword
>start using the gravity stone on everything coming to us.

Izumi:
>mana Infuse sword
>start spamming palms of Succor around the area
>start spirit slashing that bitch

Lori:
>get out a gun
>Start using magic limbs to push aside/counter shadow attacks
>>
>>3982060
>“...s-she hates being reminded of when she was imprisoned. Betrayed. She loses sight of everything else. Blind rage.
We can do something about this.
Izumi or Miranda can erect a big Barrier to box both of us and her in. No shadow splitting tricks can save her in that kind of close quarters
>>
>>3982069
Nah lead with flux wave to wipe the shadows, then have Izumi take a ranged shot on the junko while Lori scouts to make sure that Izumi isn't shooting a decoy.

Miranda either pins the visible Junko, or defends the Cabin if it is a fake.

>Action!
First up, start verbally needling her. Angry people make more mistakes.
Next start probing attacks, looking for fighting style, etc. Maybe try baiting her into wasting powerful attacks.
Stay away from heavily shadowed areas.
>>
>>3982073
Oh this can work too, just trap the real one.
And keep taunting/guilt tripping her about her friends and mommy.
>>

The barrier is redundant, the c4 and turret is still in place. Save Seither for emergencies.

>>
>>3982073
Doesn't that hurt both of us and her?

You know what, I can support this. Find the real one and box her in. Thunderdome style.
>>
>>3982083
I'm assuming we recharged off-screen? We also didn't use any mana to clear the zombie hordes.
>>
>>3982073
Or, if we want to trigger Junko, get in Maries face and say

> "You wouldn't break. No matter what we said or did to Yuu and Kanna, you wouldn't give up Arc, would you. So since you would rather die then betray this Junko, you can die watching her fail to save you."

Twist the knife, how can Junko "betray" Marie when Marie refused to betray Junko. Ride Or Die /U/ Boats.

I don't think Arc deserves the hate, but calling her a S is just hilarious to me and I don't know why, and by a doctor no less.

So we're going with this?
> Get Flamebringer out, activate GRAVITY STONE and start slamming to immobilize.
> Try to find the real one and box her in with barriers.
> MAYBE use Flux Wave if she clones herself too many times and there are too many mobs. Have Arc do something and warn our team before doing so.

Gonna trim things down before I pass out again, sorry. Seems like the major suggestions are essentially:

>Play the insult game, and try to draw her into melee distance to pin her down.
>Multiple barriers to limit her range of movement and force her into a 2v1 with you and Izumi.
>Attempt Flux Wave to disable any of her minions before anything else, and hopefully her.
>>
>>3982160
Standard Barriers, and make sure we leave ourselves enough time to actually cast the Flux, but yeah, looks good.
>>
>>3982160
And make sure Flux Wave don't hit our allies.
I can dig that.
>>
>>3982168
I still don't want to hire arc, but if she can oper8 within our flux wave then the sluuuuuuuut has some synergy with Miranda.

>Current Mana: 9000/12500

You barely have time to draw your sword before you realize that there’s not just one, but THREE Shadow Queens rushing your position- as two splinter off to the sides and one seemingly charging straight for you.

“SCATTER!” both you and Izumi yell, and the group quickly breaks off into different directions, Arc and Gartoum breaking off to their right, pursed by one of the ‘Queens’ Lorelei backflipping onto the rooftop, and Izumi breaking to your left to give you a bit of room to work with- being followed by her own Queen. The centermost immediately leaps into the air, and for a moment you think it’s trying to pursue Lorelei as you throw up a barrier to keep it from getting closer; her blade swipes the air twice in impressively quick succession, and two magiwaves of her own sweep from it- near pure black that detonates against your own magic wall with an impressive, inky explosion.

“That all you can do?!” you shout. You’re not generally one for smack talk, but you recall being told she has a bit of a temper. “Figures.”

“HARDLY!” she shouts back as she lands, and rears back one of her hands- “Gaia, release unto me your sharpened rage!” Oh, she has to incant? Good to know.

Especially considering a massive chunk of earth about the size of a truck is ripped from the ground, split into sharpened chunks, and hurled at you faster than you can cock an eyebrow. You’ve got maybe a half-second to be surprised before they start to pummel your shield relentlessly…

Your not going to bend from something like that, though, and she notices that as readies her own blade again, and you’re readying...something else, even as the stone flies and your barrier holds.

“We got incoming!” Lorelei suddenly shouts as a flurry of Fireworks shoot from her, and you can just see behind her...a few of those impressively humanoid shadows- ones that can cast some kind of magic, no less.

Fantastic. You’re going to have to be on top of your game, as you ready for incoming, the sounds of Arc, Gartoum and Izumi fighting off their Queen clones already. Still, for now, at least, things are going according to plan...knock on wood.

If you can hold them off enough to run through your Flux Wave ‘setup’, that’d tip the scales of the fight damn quick. Unfortunately, as she rushes in to collide her ichorous blade against your barrier, you realize that that’s probably not going to take; she’s legit fast and strong, and you’re going to either need a lot of space or a lot of luck to get her off her game for the few seconds needed to execute the technique. She’s actually pushing damn hard against this, and you’re quick to realize that she’s trying to down your barrier asap. Smart, really; but, that’s more or less what you were hoping for her to do anyway- which is why you feign it fading as you let out a grunt of exertion and let it drop, allowing her to surge forwards and meet her blade to yours.

There’s practically a sizzle between the two of you as you briefly lock blades, her trying her damndest to overpower you. Whatever abilities she might have, though, she’s not so strong as to be able to overpower you outright, as you slowly manage to bend her backwards. “Not really the sharpest in the shed, huh?” you say sharply. Still trying to throw her off. “If that’s how you got locked up, then I’m not surprised.”

“SHUT IT!” she yells, and for a moment you think that’s enough as you begin to activate your Flamebringer’s gravity well. If you can keep her pinned, she’ll be a sitting duck.

To your surprise, however, she grits her teeth, plants her feet, and after a second, RIPS her sword from yours, stumbling back a bit and quickly dissolving into shadow- just as a gunshot rips through the air over your head and hits the ground where she’d been hardly a second ago. You can’t waste the time to turn and see, but no points for guessing that Lorelei’s making the most of her height advantage.

>>3983874
You can hear something impact the cabin over to your right where Arc and Gartoum are, and you hope it’s not them. Further impacts that sound like steel on steel at least reassure you from there as ‘your’ Junko reforms at a distance; you’re not sure you’ll be able to box her in very effectively, either, if she can slither around like that…

Another gunshot- this time off to the left, around where Izumi’s clash is taking place; blades impacting and singing through the air with vicious cadence. There’s a second-long pause, then you hear a yell of exertion from Izumi briefly, and the sounds resume.

This time, you’re forced to leap for distance as a bolt of shadow is launched from her again- only this time, it curves to follow your trajectory- and you’re forced to meet it with your own magiwave to eliminate it, the two energies colliding and detonating with a small yet forceful burst of power.

“You don’t know ANYTHING about what I went through! You couldn’t even BEGIN to guess!” she roars as she rears back and waves of heat begin to come off of her.

>Keep taunting, keep dodging. This is going to be a battle of attrition, and you’re going to have to play smart to win.

You’re quick to leap out of the way of the massive conflagration she hurls towards you; it’s like a massive, heat-based magiwave, and even the excess heat is sweltering. She’s going to turn this whole place into a forest fire if she’s not careful!

...or at least, that’s your initial thought as it impacts the ground where you were, seemingly snuffing itself out immediately save for a few cinders. A second pair of waves are launched to meet you, and they’re both nullified in the same way as the last. “I don't need to,” you remark as the response to her last statement. “The moment I found out you were putting magical bombs in people's heads I thought you were a piece of shit.”

“She would’ve stopped me!” Junko yells as she draws an arm back like she’s nocking an arrow- and a shadowy bow seems to form out of nowhere. You’re already moving before she fires. “Would’ve wasted everyone’s sacrifices!”

“Sure, sure!” you sarcastically respond as you dip between two trees and narrowly avoid an arrow to the shoulder. “You know you're not even the only one who has been through shit, right?” you yell back as you duck behind a tree and toss off a few magiblasts to force her to move. “What makes you think your suffering is worse than anyone else’s? In fact, lemme guess! Your teammate betrayed you, left you for dead, and then you swore revenge on everyone? Something like that, right? Lemme tell you, if I had a nickle-” Damnit, she’s firing bolts again. This keeps up, there’s going to be a lot less trees here. A salvo of Fireworks goes off again, with a gunshot following up as Lorelei takes potshots at the shadowmages back there; you can’t tell if she’s hit anyone, however.

“Do you have ANY idea how PAINFUL it was?!” she yells as another tree goes down. “The sheer void I had to endure!?”

“No, but I know someone who’d probably wanna have a word with you about that!” Makers, you hope Izumi’s listening. “But seriously, even if you claim you only do it to help others like us, that whole ‘headbomb’ thing? Yeah, no, that kind of ability would just be too tempting for someone like you to use on people you'd want to control, because you think you're queen shit and can do no wrong because of what happened to you. You’re just a hypocritical MORON!" At that you leap up as a salvo of arrows perforates the tree. A kick of mana pushes you mid air towards the house again, and you quickly kick off the wall after dropping, shifting your trajectory yet again to avoid the snake-like homing arrows trying to tag you.

“Stop moving so much, damn you! If you’re going to fight, then FIGHT!” she bellows.

“Mmmmmaybe,” you say as you let loose another volley of magiblasts. She’s not really keen on getting close to you, that’s for certain- which, admittedly, is not the worst strategy.

Two clip her, but it seems to be all of nothing in terms of damage. Instead, she just scowls. “...Fine! Grant me speed- Haste!” Oh, well rats. That’s never good. And as she suddenly flashes into an inky black blur, you grunt in annoyance, and focus. If she’s going to pick up the pace, then…

Left, right, left, right- and you block the incoming swing as gives a miniature hop to try for an overhead attack. Predictable, but still- her movement is good. Something to be careful of. You pivot to try and throw off her balance while she’s trying to fall back to the ground- she uses the momentum to push off, however, ending in a roll that quickly shifts into a dive as another gunshot rings out.

She spares a glance, and you decide that that’s your best shot for now as you rush in to try and execute your original plan, your gravity Flamebringer lighting up and swinging for her feet- she jumps, longer than what you’d expect; but you’re surprised when she stretches out a hand and “Ha!” A darkened fireball slings out - and shoots right for Lorelei on the rooftop. Who is busy trying to assist Izumi in locking down her Queen.

You don’t even have time to shout for her, the strike is that fast. She sees something out the corner of her eye, at least; and she has the good instinct to throw her hands up, and you see a shine of something yellow before impact throws up flame, debris, and Lorelei, judging from her yell.

“GYAAAAAAAhh FUCK YOU!!” you can hear yell as you see the smoking body of her careen through the air and hear the impact on the other side of the house alongside her sharp yell.

(cont.)
>>
>>3984097
With a vicious grin, she lands, immediately blocking your singular strike attempt to catch her off guard, and again you’re in a lock of blades, your gravity well pulling as hard as you can force it. “H-ha! One down...”

She doesn’t have time to continue the phrase, however, as a bright bolt of lightning suddenly impacts her, throwing her off her feet, and causing you to back up to get out of the light area.
“THAT was long overdue!” Arc yells as she resummons her spear, just as the girl gets up and Gartoum slithers on by.

“...yyyou...BITCH.” Junko hisses as she clutches her side. Through her fingers, you can see...something...glowing softly at the point of impact. “I still have more than enough to-”

You’re quick to close in; talking never did much for you- but suddenly a sheet of massive icespikes split the area between you and her, the massive things making a clear divide between you and Izumi, still fighting on her own, and you and Arc. Gah, those magician shadows must not have been killed before Lorelei got thrown. Speaking of, though…

You should probably do something about that. “Thanks for the backup. I’m going to get April; help May!” you quickly shout as you’re already bounding off. You doubt she’ll exactly be reluctant to do so, at least.

As soon as you reach the back of the house, though, you’re more than a bit surprised; whatever attack hit her, it was...surprisingly both worse and not as bad as you’d thought, it seems. A good chunk of her blouse is ripped off, revealing a decent amount of her undergarments, and the skin beyond is reddened and inflamed; you’d half expecting some kind of burning or charring. She’s definitely hurting, though; she’s still sprawled out and cradling part of her side. “How you holding up?” you ask as you get near her.

“Oooh, ffffucking fine,” she grunts. “The pain isn’t NEARLY as intense as my rage right now.”

“You weren’t keeping an eye on her, though,” you point out as you reach out with your gauntlets. “Sooo…”

“Oh, hush up and heal me already,” she whines. Rolling your eyes as another explosion goes off near the front of the house, you’re fortunate she’s at least a quick heal. “This probably would’ve been worse if Owlia’s sigil plate thing didn’t actually do its job. Gotta remember to say thanks.”

You pause. “Wait, I don’t remember giving that to you.”

“You totally did,” she insists. You squint, and she just shrugs. “Aaanyway, we’re gonna kick her ass for it, so whatever.”

“I have a Shadow Queen to beat down with Arc,” you decide. She’s already on the backfoot, there’s no reason to let up now- if Izumi was in trouble, you’d know about it by now.

“Yeah, well- ow,” she winces as she gets up. “Yikes, whatever she did, it STILL smarts…magic for ya.” Not a good sign, that, despite her visible wounds vanishing. “Anyway, fine. You get back to it, and I’m-I’m just gonna pretend I’m not gonna feel this tomorrow, yeah. Would love to plug SOMEONE, at least...” she grumbles. With that assurance, you take off back to the front of the building-

-to see Gartoum in a puddle around the far corner of the house, half formed, for some reason. Meanwhile, Izumi, with yell, lets rip a Magislash that her Queen barely dodges- she got some hair for certain, and the result ends up cutting a tree down with the force of her strike. Arc is fairing well enough, too, it seems. Dodging a wicked cut by an angry and frustrated Queen, she nearly is in a three point stance, and recognizes it; you land as she suddenly bursts forward and flat out FOOTBALL TACKLES Junko into the ice wall that the mage had thrown up; a fireball prevents her from any followup as she’s forced to retreat from the blast and the one the follows that, and that allows Junko to get her own bearings.

“SCREW ALL OF YOU!” And with that she raises her arms high. “From the deepest Hell, hear my cry and let loose my rage in chaotic flame!”

She’s right there. You have your blade. Her arms are perfectly positioned. You leap. You swing.

You can feel the heat generating. From her- and from your own burning blade. But hers is dying. Yours isn’t.

The blood that spills from the stumps that were her arms from the elbow up is black. Ichorous. Dare you say, demonic.

“HELLFIRE CONFL- GYYAAAAAH!” A bloodcurdling scream goes up as her arms are separated, and in a moment she falls to her knees in shock. She hardly has time to say anything else before a spear pierces her torso clean, pinning her to the ice wall with a sharp CRACK. For a moment, she hangs there like a grisly trophy...before suddenly sloughing away into shadow, the majority of it melting into the ground, and a portion of it slithering, snaking past you with lightning speed-

-to then be absorbed into the remaining Shadow Queen that Izumi is fighting, currently in bladelock. “Damn you…” the last Queen says as she pushes mightily. “DAMN YOU ALL! YOU JUST WANT US TO BE USED, DON'T YOU?! YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU'RE DOING!”

(cont.)
>>
>>3985539
“Not at all,” Izumi says serenely. “But this is the fate of those who pervert justice for their own ends,” Izumi says, calmly as possible, holding out against the raging storm with an image of what you can only describe as calm ferocity. “To see only themselves as the righteous, no matter the reason, is folly. To protect is not to dominate. To protect is to defend.”

You quickly wave Arc back for now as you attempt to move quietly. “Stay here, keep an eye on if she tries anything funny or if those mages get snippy. I’ve got an idea.”

Wait, what are you doing?” she asks softly, but you’re already too far away to risk answering. You try to move as quietly as possible to get behind her, and if Izumi noticed you, she’s not giving off any indication of such. There’s something of a ‘corridor’ of trees at the angle she’s fighting, and that works well enough for you- there’s still room for her to run, sure, but if you do this right, she won’t even realize that fast enough.

Izumi’s got her attention it seems, as Junko attempts to go on the offensive- two quick slashes, one of the trailing a black ichorous substance similar to the ‘blood’ you saw that splashes and sizzles against the ground Izumi was just on- corrosive? Yikes. The attempted response is deflected, and to your surprise her blade suddenly wiggles, burbles, and darkens into black morass, shifting into a wicked scythe; she takes a diagonal swing that Izumi ducks and backs out of, and leaps a second, quickly putting her in a position to block Izumi’s attempted horizontal strike.

You hear a gunshot go off nearby, and the crumbling and rumbling of earth being thrown up; you can only hope that was a hit from Lorelei or else there might be issues forthcoming. There’s no communication either way, so you’re going to have to- “Hey, scratch one shadow!” Ah, there you go. Nevermind, then.

With that concern lessened, if not removed, you resume focus on the fight, which now is forcing Junko to find a way to get around Izumi’s rapid-fire Palms of Succor, the slow projectiles acting as a slow moving shield and preventing Junko from any easy angles from attack- the end result is Izumi trying to find an angle to escape as Junko tries to use her Despair-covered scythe to literally reap away the projectiles. “I don’t know HOW you manage this, but you’re not going to-

Aaand she’s talking again. Perfect. You’re quick to leap in, and she has barely a second of realization- she throws her hand behind her and ‘NO!’ You can see plates of thin, dark substance RAPIDLY form in front of her- nearly as instant as your own barrier. They’re about a person tall and twice as wide, and your blade crashes into them, practically disspating in showers of magical shards one-by-one-by-one…

(cont.)
>>
>>3985672
...but it DOES slow your blade down just enough for her to dive out of the way; it’s an ugly thing, but it gets her free as she rolls to her feet-

-in time for an electric javelin to slam into her, throwing her harshly back against a tree as she crackles with electricity. You’re quick to move in- but she quickly twists with a groan and you wind up skewering the tree itself instead, unfortunately. Her eyes light up as she realizes the position you’re in now as she raises her reconstituted sword heedless of the light circular mark embedded on her torso. Fortunately, so do you.

Nah, it's all simple stuff, self buffs and energy channel is a basic OG miranda move while over-channel just increases her current always on power boost. The main issue with over-channel is the high mana cost but, well, not a concern in this position.

The only one that should take any concentration is the body shield.

>Current Mana: 6950/12500

You hate leaving openings...well, open. And if worse comes to worse...well, you can heal this off. Pretty sure. Which is why you quickly illuminate her on the situation quite literally; as you tense and let loose a massive flash from your body. You can hear both Izumi and Arc exclaim- though you swear Izumi sounds more indignant than pained. A shot rings out somewhere, but you barely register it. Junko, as expected, instinctively flinches back and screeches from the sudden light show- and that’s all the opening you need.

That said, your fist is already mid-flight as you think this; your body enflamed, if only for this brief moment to get as much power out of it as possible- anything that you push yourself into doing, you do, and you imagine the sudden burst of green fire was likely noticed if anyone happened to be looking in the direction of the forest.

You’d hoped to get your body armor up, but you’re not quite used to that enough to do it so quickly- so you have to settle for the raw feeling of your knuckles embedding themselves into her nose and face in general.

Fair enough consolation prize.

It’s only a split-second later that she goes utterly ROCKETING- a portion of the house erupts in splinters as she’s blasted through it- then through the other side, a MASSIVE crack-crack-crack erupts as you hear the sound of trees crackling and falling in the forest on the other end. A full 15 seconds is what it takes for the sounds of falling wood and pain to fall silent, much to your surprise.

And for a while, the forest is silent. “...my word,” Izumi says, but has nothing else to say. Arc just takes a deep breath, and sighs, something that says a lot and so little at the same time.

“Holy SHIT, nice!” Lorelei crows as she jumps out from behind the hut. “Yo, I think she cleared a football field!”

“Yeah, well. Let’s see if she’s still alive, first of all,” you decide. “Always good to check.” You don’t want her to survive by the skin of her teeth, after all...

“No…” Hm? Oh yeah! The hostages. Looking through, you can see all of them- Marie included- wearing varied looks of shock and dismay on their faces. Marie looks like she’s about to break into hysterics, and Yuu looks like she’s about to start sobbing, shaking her head despondently. Kanna just looks like she's about to hyperventilate.

"I...perhaps you could deal with the checking on Junko, please, Arc? April? March?" Izumi asks solemnly. "I would like some...words...with the captives."

We can call the Organization and see if they want them alive or dead, but no hiring Arc.

Hell. I am fine with letting Kana and Arc go, since Kanna wasn't on their radar and they didn't offer to pay us for killing Arc.

>>
>>3985858

>>
>>3985843
Honestly, worst case is we hire arc, anons forget about the shiny new character after a mission, and we never use her again just like Mono.

Sucks that we lose our last slot to this kind of crossover bullshit, but fuck it at least this whole thing about hiring new girls which has been an absolute shitshow post Owlia and Cylica, where it was an innovative solution to a bossfight due to a unique situation of them having nothing left to gain and being impressively tough and ballsy (crystal shoved into HER FUCKING BRAIN) as well as sympathetic with the whole princess of a vanquished nation or whatever -

I give up. People can't wait to recreate something awesome like that.

At least Prima and Jago were organic, with Lori giving them life and all. Makes a strong case to bring your essentially robot children back home.

Mono I wasn't around for.

But it feels like people have been pushing to just take ANYONE from this crossover to fill the last slot, and they just settled on Arc as most likely candidate and that leaves a real bad taste in my mouth.
>>
>>3985858
ok, clean state, and because i'm honestly curious. why do you want to kill yuu kanna and marie without checking if the organization wants them alive? Marie, i get it, she's a cunt, but it has been shown before that if we go above what its stated that we get an extra reward. why not do the same here as well, when we already have the girls bound, gagged and the organization doesn't take that much time to take them away from us?

>>3985864
i think there is a problem of communication here. there are anons like me that want to deliver the girls alive(not arc), but it seems that there are other anons that feel that this also means that we want to recruit arc, which i don't think is the case.
>>
>>3985862
I'm not angry, I'm disappointed. I think they should die, bur I don't really care what happens to the hostages. But we made a point to Izumi about their fate. That Randa would actually consider doing anything but killing them sends a very mixed message to Izumi.
>>
Can't we compromise and invite Arc to the Intersection without instantly recruiting her and see the candidates who'll answer our ad? If they all suck then call Arc, if not - then tell Sal to find a group for her that'd be interested.
>>
>>3985864

>>3985871

>>
>>3985869
Well, double checking is still professional. If anything handing them over to the Organization could be considered a fate worse than death if they're going to get mind or soul jacked. Not that we know anything about that, we're contractors, but I think at this point we can be... skeptical? What with the constant accusations of abuse and "You have no idea what they did to us". Really helped their case that whole give 0 details thing.
>>
>>3985871
I don't even want to put out an ad for an engineer, or whatever it was people wanted, a manufacturer/pilot?
>>
>>3985871
I'd be fine with that. She did us some major solids after we helped with her brain bomb, so it's at least fair enough to say she can manage in the Intersection.

>>3985871

>>
>>3985877
>>3985871
Fine for me. I don't see her fit for us(we already have the OG trio that does her job way better than her), but this fight showed that she is rather competent and could find a job in... general dynamics maybe?

>>3985871
sure. let's check not!shepard and see how she's faring.i swear i'm not thinking with my dick, but she definitely fits most of the requirements that we're looking for.
>>
>>3985871
The fate of Arc and the fate of the hostages are two separate issues. I'm fine with leaving her here, but not with a a hiring offer or Intersection invitation.

>>3985878
>Well, double checking is still professional.
The issue there is twofold: The situation regarding the hostages hasn't actually changed. And offering the client freebies leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
>>
>>3985887
>And offering the client freebies
we already did the same with natalya and everyone was on board.
>>
>>3985871
You know why the situation with arc polarized last thread? Stuff like this. Compromise to me is letting her live instead of killing or hiring her.
>>
>>3985790
Geez, she looks beaten up about this. It’s not the worst you’ve seen her, but it’s knocking at the Top 3. You’re not sure what she’s wants to do, but...well, she’s gotten it this far. You think she’s worth trusting a bit further. "...alright. Please don't do anything-” you pause briefly. You were about to say ‘stupid’, but you really don’t feel like insulting her like that. “...well. You understand, I trust."

She nods, a straight face. “Absolutely. I still remember what was discussed. All of it, from start to finish.” Hm.

Well...alright. So long as she gets it. Still, maybe...hm. "Hey, look, I- well, we'll call the higher ups and see what their opinion on the matter is before we follow through, alright? How about that?" You can’t even make yourself sound sincere- they’d already given their verdict on the matter from word go, and from how they sentenced Arc herself, you can’t say it’s likely they’d be in a forgiving mood.

Still, she takes the statement for the blind hope that it is, a rueful smile and a nod your response. “Thank you. Really, I mean it. They’ll be here when you get back.”

If she promised, then… “Right. No more time to waste. Arc, April, let’s go.”

“Coming!” April says.

“Right with you,” Arc agrees. You spare the time to pick up Gartoum and return him to his ring before you head off. The guy’s been not bad at all this night. Might be worth showing your thanks somehow…

At any rate, it’s a quick trek through the forest- it’s not exactly hard to follow the trail of destruction and toppled trees your quarry made, and considering the lot of you are superhuman, it makes for a more efficient journey than otherwise. To your mild surprise, it eventually ends as a ditch a couple feet deep. “Wow,” Lorelei notes. “That HAD to hurt.”

A rasping breath from the ditch itself proves her right. The lot of you peer in, weapons and magic primed…

...And so she lays. Junko Kurosaki, the Shadow Queen. She’s bleeding red ichor- you’re not quite positive it’s blood somehow, but she’s scratched and full of splinters all over her leggings and back. Her dress itself is torn up and shredded all over the torso and hip area, showing the vicious gashes that likely were the result of her flesh getting caught on trees and wood and splinters. Her face is almost caved in entirely, her nose a bloody, ichorous pulp that covers her upper mouth, and one of her eyes dilated and bulging.

“Eugh,” Lorelei grimaces. “I almost feel bad for her.”

“Mm.” Arc just grunts. Even now, though, you notice a black, shadowy morass trying to spread from her back where she lays- though it’s slow and lethargic, much moreso than anything you’d seen from her before.

> “Arc. Wanna do the honors?”
> “Well. Checkmate.”
> “Lorelei, anything to say?”
>>
>>3985895
Here goes a dramatic final speech?
> Pin her down with a salvo of sticky mana.
> “You’re weak.”
> “I saw, I KNOW one girl. She has lost more than you, she has braved more hardships than you. She could have gotten further in life, but instead she chose to NEVER abandon her ideas and let herself fall from grace! There are many more people like her, and they’re all stronger than you.”

Sure, might as well do the write in. Junko was an asshole, and deserves to die being told she was an asshole.
>>
>>3985925
I- tsk- I just don't really like the write-in, we were being preachy to get under Junko's skin, we're not actually trying to change her, she's way too far gone, and if we wanted to rub her face in it I feel like we could do better than say how much better Izumi is, that's a pretty high bar to set and mock her for failing to reach
>>
>>3985920
I can get behind that.
>>
>>3985933
Exactly, Izumi is a fucking saint for trying to keep her morals in this business. We're just giving her something to look up to when she passes on.
>>
>>3985933
I'm of a similar mind. It rings a little hollow to speak of 'NEVER abandon her ideas and let herself fall from grace!' When Randa doesn't exactly have the strongest moral footing to stand on.
>>
>>3985940
I think I can call that's Miranda's inner drama leaking out. Or it's genuine respect for Izumi, because she can't keep her morals while Izumi can and they're the same age.
>>
>>3985940
>>3985933
People, in real life and otherwise, are almost always hypocrites in some way eventually. The trick is to be self aware enough to know when you're being one yourself, and to make the attempt to rectify that.

>>
>>3985957

>>
>>3985937
Miranda is killing people because Izumi can't bear to herself.

Which is fine. Izumi may moralize at them, bht Miranda can accept that in some ways she's as much a monster as Junko. It's just that Miranda is a MUCH better monster.
>>
>>3985955
I did vote for Checkmate, I just mentioned my approval of the Lori option
>>
>>3985972
Yeah, it's not quite that straightforward. Having morals is great, but Izumi struggles to keep the lights on, despite being in one of the most lucrative businesses in the Intersection. I don't think she should give those morals up, but it's more complicated that it first appears.

>>3985973
Ah, wasn't certain if you were shifting your vote or not. Apologies.
>>
>>3985976
>but Izumi struggles to keep the lights on,
I wonder if she would be happier doing pure intersection work. I'm sure the city has cops, or some other work that's easier on her soul.
I'd hate to lose her, but if she really would be more at peace...
>>
>>3985988
She does help people though. It's just that it doesn't pay as well as more practical jobs do.

I mean, the job we're on right now is an Izumi job, too. Because it has to be done.
>>
>>3985990
She could help people in the Intersection too. I'm sure the care house is always looking for more help of one kind or another.
Shifting to pure intersection work would give her a steady (if sharply diminished) paycheck, with could make it easier to do what she feels she needs to without constantly keeping an eye on her bank balance. She'd likely have to move to a smaller apartment and such, but steady work would give her peace of mind.

I dunno though, maybe she's got just enough of an adventuring itch it keep her from really settling down.
>>
Oy, oy, oy. You have...a lot, honestly. That you want to say to this girl. About how you know SO many other people that have had it worse. That the girl that just helped hand her her ass on a platter likely had it a hundred times worse than she did and still kept fighting for what she believed in- that it’s THAT kind of thing that makes folks strong. That Izumi’s stronger than her. Stronger than you, in a way.

But...you’re not really one to talk, honestly. Not anymore. Not to mention, you’re on the job. So you figure best to keep it simple.

You stretch your hand out, and as the energy forms, she...well, the shadows move a bit faster, and her eyes are red with hate. Damn, the hate. But it’s not enough. You know it. She knows it. And now it’s time to end it.

The blast is set, and your allies back off a bit. It’s just you and her. “Well. Checkmate.”

You leap, you toss, and you idly wonder what her last thoughts might’ve been as the blast engulfs her and the explosion echoes throughout the empty forest. You land with resolution, and are quick to wave the smoke away. She’s...well, all but disintegrated, it seems. Some hair left, her shoes. Some weird bracelet that might be good as proof of death- or maybe just a memento. Regardless, you just sigh. “And that’s that.”

“Thank you,” Arc says magnanimously. “I...owe you a great deal, still.”

“Aww, t’wern’t nothin’!” Lorelei gushes. “You weren’t half bad yourself! Y’know, aside from the selling us out thing due to magic brain bombs, but hey, no one’s perfect!” Well. Good to know she doesn’t hold a grudge. “Buuut I WOULD like my hairpiece back because it’s pretty and I like it.”

She actually cracks a smile. “Honestly, I’m glad to be able to.” She unclips it...and breathes a sigh of relief. “Here. By all means.”

“Right, then. I need to make a call,” you decide. “And we need to get back to May.” Honestly, THIS might be the hard part.

“We’d prefer them eliminated, so as to prevent any possibility of a resurgence by leftover administrative personnel,” you hear Kyuubi say as you walk back- it’s annoying to try to listen to a phone call mid-leap or run. “Although we acknowledge they are technically optional, and will go after them ourselves should you keep them alive.”

“What about just giving them to you?” you ask. “Like with the other girl.”

“We desired Natalya because she was in a unique position,” Kyuubi responds. “The others, not so much. By all accounts, their capabilities are nothing we haven’t seen before on some level, and so we are far more confident in their neutralization. Handing them over would expedite the process significantly.”

“Ah.” Well, that explains it. “So…”

“With your primary goal fulfilled, we will be extracting you come morning, payment at the ready.” Ah. “Should there be any further developments tonight, please inform us.”

“Will do,” you respond as your Murmur Stone rings. “Out.” The phone hangs up, and you’re quick to activate the stone. From one to another, seriously... “March here. Was just talking about you.”

“Ah. I see.” She sounds...flat. That’s the best way to describe it. “I’m calling to inform you that...that the situation has been resolved.” There was a break there…

“What do you mean?” you press.

“The situation has been resolved,” she repeats. “We had a discussion. Marie Okada sensed Junko’s death. We talked a bit more afterwards, and...they decided. Kanna Rikudo will vanish as much as she is able.”

Hm. Well, she WASN’T on the list, and you DID say you’d likely let her go because of that...“And the other two?”

“They decided to resolve the situation, the situation has been resolved, and in case you didn’t catch my meaning, I’d prefer not to talk about it at this moment,” she presses. “But it has been resolved cleanly and with minimal pain.”

also, maybe Izumi can visit the high school one last time before we go
>>
>>3986008
We don't need to rush, but you're right, we should confirm the kills. I doubt Izumi would lie to us like this after we made a point about their deaths, but we need to make sure they're dead with our own eye before formally reporting.
>>
>>3986007
Adding "Confirm the kills" to this. It's not like we don't trust Izumi but it's the right thing to do.

Bonus points if it catches fire. Though that might be hard to hide from the fire marshal on a high profile case like this,

I was going to say that she definitely deserves the trust but we indeed need to go back to the house to collect the turret. The girls were right next to it so there's no way to miss them if they're dead.

I've just realised that we managed to kill Junko when Izumi just attended her second day of school.

Writing shortly. A bit late, mind...

You’re a bit concerned, to say the least. You’ll have to check on things when you get there, but otherwise… “Alright...we’ll talk later, then, maybe?” Geez, you sound awkward.

“...perhaps.” It’s not much, but better than nothing. Even if you DON’T end up talking about it, it at least says that she might be willing to. “See you soon.”

“Right.” That does it for that… “Alright, sooo…”

“I heard,” Lorelei says with a grimace. Even Arc doesn’t look entirely at ease right now. “Wanna hurry back?”

“We could do to go a bit faster,” Arc says, and you can’t find it in you to disagree.

-------------

You’re not entirely certain what you’re expecting when you walk in the door; perhaps her standing by herself with a bloody blade. Maybe her trying to act normal with a suspicious lack of dead bodies nearby. Maybe something else.

You’re not expecting her sitting calmly on the couch in the living room, cleaned up as best as possible, sipping at a cup of tea. On the floor behind the couch and where the captives used to be are two bundles carefully wrapped up from head to toe in bedsheets; clearly bodies judging from the shapes. The pure white of the sheets is only stained slightly by notable bloodstains around where you’d wager the necks would be. “Welcome back. All’s well, then?”

You nod. “As well as can be. So…” you’re not even sure if she wants to acknowledge them right now, but...needs must. “That them?”

She nods, but says nothing more.

After a moment of waiting for her to explain herself, you decide to just ask outright. “Where’s the third one?”

“We said we’d let her go if she was willing to aid us, and after the deed was done, she still wanted to leave. If nothing else, I felt it only proper to honor that implicit agreement,” she says simply. “She swore that she’d get as far away from this situation as possible. I believed her words.” Hm.

Alright, your call.

Now, about the electric elephant in the room...
>>
>>3986997
You purse your lips in consideration. You HAD said something to that effect- to Kanna, right? Right. If she was actually willing to not be a pain in the ass, then… “Well. It IS your job and she wasn’t a mark, so…” you shrug your shoulders, your opinion finalizing. “Whatever.”

There’s a subtle loosening of her shoulders at your dismissive tone, and Lorelei just smirks and snorts. Seems she didn’t think much would come of it either. Arc seems muted, same as before...although speaking of that. “Then if that’s settled, I think we need to discuss something that’s been looming over us for a bit now.”

Everyone turns to you in apparent surprise. “Whassat?” Lorelei asks, raising an eyebrow.

You casually poke a finger at Arc, who jumps slightly in surprise. “Me?”

“Yeah, you.” you confirm. “Remember that you’re unemployed right now. In fact, you WERE put on the KOS list. We just didn’t bother because May felt there was something off-kilter about you. And hey! Looks like we were right. Still doesn’t get you back into the Org’s good graces, though.”

At THAT, she looks particularly despondent, but nods. “Y-yes, I’m not surprised. The Organization prides itself on secrecy above all else. For myself to be compromised for so long without their identification...I can’t say I don’t understand, to be honest. Even IF Oberon valued my presence, he’d put The Organization first. Always has. Always will.” She sighs. “I’m not really sure what I’ll be doing now, to be frank. If I was supposed to be dead, then I’ll have to go deep underground; perhaps change my name, face wholesale. Try to get a new identity, disappear somewhere.”

“Any other organizations that’d take you in?” Lorelei asks. “Gotta be other game in town, right?”

She hemms and haws a bit, before shaking her head. “Possible, but unlikely. My magical signature is...notable, in magical society. And that’s not something easily hidden, whether I use it or not. I’ll have to keep on the move to stay alive.”

“Unless…” Izumi prods, looking at you. Right, this is her job...but you’re still the Division Leader.

what roll we need filled in another hotly debated topic.

A bruiser is exactly what we need; Outgoing is where SES makes its money. We don't need dedicated personnel to maintain the vehicles we never use, and the science girls are already getting an (unpaid) assistant.
>>
>>3987146
We only have three, Jago, Izumi and Miranda. We're way overstocked on Operators, with Lori, O&C, Mono and Prima.

>We don't need dedicated personnel to maintain the vehicles we never use
True, we need someone that can actually pilot them and bring them into their missions. The maintaining part is already covered by miranda's mechanic, but it would be nice to also have someone in-house that at the very least is capable of telling if the mechanic is trying to rip us off.

>>3987154
...what is your definition of operator? ugh... i think first of all we need everyone to be on the same level of information before we say that we have too much of something. because for me operators are izumi, lorelei and miranda; people that don't really need someone else to complete a job because they are generalists.
>>
Maybe there's apprenticeship on SES? Can Arc go on one mission that's not compatible with her skills (sci-fi comes into mind) and have a go with her? I dunno, I'm just trying to look for option that doesn't involve hiring her on our company.
>>
>>3987163
No, see, Izumi and Miranda are Enforcers. Their jobs mostly focus on combat, although we tend to play Miranda a bit more talky then a traditional D&D fighter. Meanwhile, Lorelei's an Operator, because she's mostly hired out to spy on people, locate high value items, stuff like that, with her combat skills being less of a priority.
>>
>>3987163
Randa, Lori, and Izumi can fly the things. But using them on mission is expensive: cost to summon them, cost of munitions, cost of repairs, and payment of pilot being the major expenses. We do not want to be using them regularly if we can help it; It wouldn't surprise me if it made most jobs be an overall loss of Lotes.

>>3987166
That's basically hiring her.
>>
>>3987166
>I dunno, I'm just trying to look for option that doesn't involve hiring her on our company.
....then why you try to get her into SES at all? our favor to izumi is bring her to the intersection and tell her that she can follow orders and at least could be a rank C. but it ends there. Anything else she does falls on her
>>
>>3987173
...tell the other agencies, not arc; she should already know that.
>>
>>3987172
yeah, that's why i want to get someone that knows how to use the damn things and knows what are the best missions for it. otherwise lets sell the plane and whatever other things we have there. they are costing us hangar space that could be used to house other things, or hell, we could demolish it to pay less lotes on our rent.
>>
>>3987176
...Maybe we should sell them off. They're cool, but cost prohibitive to actually deploy. Plus upkeep costs.
>>
>>3987173
Its not getting to hire her to SES but I guess you won't probably listen to what I say so I'll just drop it off.
>>
>>3987057
>Explain just where you actually come from, and suggest she could find gainful employment there. You’d put in a word for her.

We can't hire her.
>>
>>3987176
Yeah, personally, I think we need to at least get rid of the jet. There's too much maintenance required for something like that, and if we take it on a mission, then there's the risk of having the clients being unable to work on it due to incompatible parts or tools.
>>
>>3987147
Ignore her and just wait for the new car smell to wear off and for anons to resume playing characters that I find interesting.

Not like she can make the SoL in the intersection drag any slower.
>>
Well. You’re not really about her joining YOUR group, but in general? Eh, she’s got the makings of a decent Outgoer. No, a solid one, really. Considering the run of bad luck she’s gotten here, might not be a bad idea to spill the beans.

“Unless…?” Arc prompts, and you sigh lightly. Might as well. It’d be a waste of talent otherwise.

Besides, Izumi would just give you that LOOK otherwise. “Okay, so, long story short. We’re not from around here, perse. We’re magical girls, yeah, but we’re from...elsewhere. And we...okay, MAY thinks it might be a good idea if you followed us back ‘home’ so to speak.”

“Wait, you want me to join up with your mercenary organization?” she asks curiously.

“No,” you quickly remark. “We’re not in need of your services. But where we live has...well, a LOT of mercenary groups of all stripes, and they’re all very well respected. I’m pretty confident with your skills, you could find one that suits you...”

To your surprise, she seems thoughtful. “Mm...well, I have to admit it sounds more appealing than my current options…”

“...Provided ya don’t mind living in literal null-space and aren’t averse to living next to hundreds of different kinds of beings roaming around in one big epic mishmash of a city.” Lorelei. Thank you. So much. Not really.

She pauses. “...wait, what?”

Oy. “Alright, sit down and we’ll give you the details.”

--------------------

She has a lot of questions. But they’re all very inquisitive, and she’s notably not really that freaked out by the concept like others might’ve been...perhaps because the idea of separate worlds/dimensions isn’t new to her? Regardless, she’s properly thoughtful about the concept, and when you approach her about the usual issues, she’d summed it up very succinctly:

“The Organization WAS my whole life, really. I don’t have anything- or anyone- outside of it. Not anymore.” That was...understandable, to say the least. It WAS pretty amusing to have her realize your ACTUAL ages relative to her, though, despite admitting that she was expecting an extended lifespan herself even before this. Ultimately, she requests the night to consider the idea, and you spend some moments fixing up the cabin as Lorelei and Izumi assist with exploding the ordinance you laid around. Shame you can’t just pick them back up, but...ah well.

The night is otherwise surprisingly quiet, although a quick check before bed on the net shows nothing, either. Seems that it was late enough that few people were out to see or hear anything even if they WERE close.

>>
>>3987190
>to be fair, we also haven't tried to get a mission that could involve a jet fighter at all
Jobs that require equipment like that will typically give us equipment to use (see the mech job). And it's much better to use their equipment, as it'll fit better into their world, and we won't be footing the bill for repairs, fuel, and ammo.

Unless they pay out an order of magnitude more than our normal jobs, it'd be operating at a loss or at very best break even.

We keep the planes around as emergency options, not for doing jobs.
>>

At any rate, your sleep is easy enough. Come morning, it all seems fine enough...for at least thirty minutes as you awake and get everyone else up. You’ve barely finished your breakfast cereal when you hear a knock at the door. “Ah. That’s them. Might want to stay in there,” you say to Arc without naming names, who agrees.

Fortunately, the group of men who arrive there don’t much bother to ask questions beyond the identity of the dead individuals. They’re confirmed as Yuu Mitsukoshi and Marie Okada, and you’re told that they’ll be given proper coverups for means of death. A pair of individuals with doctor’s masks and gloves come in, and retrieve the bodies. Before long, it’s Izumi, Lorelei, and yourself standing before Kyuubi and Ryujin, scowl still in place on the former as you discuss last night’s happenings.

“I have to admit, the speed at which you carried out the primary mission was...above average,” she says, almost like she’s loathe to admit it. “We anticipated the timeframe would have to be extended, initially. To accomplish this so fast speaks to your efficiency.”

“Yup. Didn’t make too much a fuss, either. That’s good. Lets us work a lot easier,” Ryujin says, nodding. He’s the one with your favorite thing in his hands. “And it’s what gets YOU this.” With that, he reaches out, placing the pair of briefcases in Izumi’s hands. “All there as requested; feel free to count it out. If you need extraction, however, we have a vehicle-”

“No need,” she says as she sets the - pretty thick honestly - briefcases on the floor and nearly has to close them again due to prevent the massive stacks of bills from spilling out. “Er- we have our own methods of extraction.”

“Understood. Then I guess this is where we part ways?” you all nod, and with that, Ryujin and Kyuubi both bow, before leaving with their quarry. The ‘click’ of the door to outside coincides with the ‘click’ of the bedroom door opening. “Last chance,” you say as you, Izumi, and Lorelei are all grouped together, with the briefcases in hand. “What’s your decision?”

There’s a moment of hesitation. She breathes deeply. “If there’s somewhere out there where I can still fight for others...”

“And get paid doin’ it!” Lorelei says. “It’s not really a bad life, gotta say!”

Her smile is thin, but it’s there. “Then I’m coming with.”

Well then. That’s that. “Sal, four for pickup.”

And in a blink, you’re gone.

“Innnnteresting decision you’ve made there. Let’s see how it works ooooooout…”

>Kanna Rikudo: Managing to live another day, she did as was told and, with assistance from Yoshinobu Okada, decided to convince her family to move out of the country- ostensibly for a job offer in Vancouver, British Colombia, but really to keep her away from The Organization's prying eyes, just in case. Fortunately for her, The Organization, while monitoring her from time to time, has little interest.

>Yuu: The Organization covered up her death, and it was ruled a suicide, easily enough, with a note from Yuu that admitted that she was 'cheating', had been for the vast majority of her career and she could no longer take the guilt. Her fans were utterly devastated, and the sport of amateur MMA took a major blow in reputation.

>Marie: Also covered up, although this death was not announced until some time after Yuu's and was ruled a devastating car crash. Nonetheless, conspiracy theorists began to dream up connections and there were notable increases in spousal violence and claims of self-defense, Marie's death making her something of a martyr.

> Yoshinobu Okada: Shaken personally, with certain individuals questioning his connection to the two dead individuals, and under the realization that his life may well be in danger, he proceeded to withdraw his mayoral bid, and receded from the public eye, instead electing to carefully divest and diversify his holdings to save money in cash on hand as opposed to assets, ultimately resulting in his moving out of the country for fear of his own safety. His location is currently unknown.

>Mako Hirayama: Extremely distraught at the death of several of her friends and the realization that Okada may be under threat, she attempted to continue to serve him, only for her to be released from his employ for her own safety. Although given a suggestion by Kanna, her numerous sisters prevent moving. She currently guards them like a hawk, constantly monitoring their locations at all hours, and has developed something of a vindictive, paranoid streak in fear of their getting kidnapped, or worse.

(cont.)
>>
>>3987224
>Aya Kurosaki: The realization of her daughter's death utterly broke Mrs. Kurosaki. Her show's middling viewship took a nosedive, and it was pulled off the air in short order as her drinking became more severe. She was last seen headed to Yoshinobu Okada's mansion shortly before he disappeared. Her location is also unknown.

>Ryomeki City:
An air of confused tension has gripped the city, cutting through the Despair- or perhaps some might say amplifying it. It's stated the city both feels 'safer and less safe' at the same time. The notorious school gang 'Karasu' has largely disbanded- although some insist it persists, it seems to have suddenly diminished in size and influence, and no longer wields as much power as it used to. Despite the fact that many consider this a positive, many also feel as though the city is like a pressure cooker waiting to burst. Why, exactly? No one is quite sure, but everyone is on edge.

>Rei Fukuda: After realizing that both Marie and Yuu were dead, as well as Junko, Rei felt dismayed and distraught; she had refused Junko's requests to aid her under the assumption she'd succeed regardless of her presence. Although she was...neutral on the subject of Junko herself, she had had no quarrel with Marie or Yuu, and felt their loss deeply. She also struck up a long-distance friendship with Kanna. Currently, she has transitioned from writing BL manga to...superhero and magical girl manga. Not to mention, Junko's death DID have a positive effect: Rei has begun taking long walks in the evening and at night- supposedly to 'clear her mind', but given her routine, some might call them 'patrols'...
>>
>>3987219

-No. It more or less happened by itself. See above.

-Yes. Once they learned that Marie was killed, they were quick to put two and two together. None of the individuals Izumi met in the company of Marie with has dared to so much as use a portion of their power since out of fear they might be next.

-Catherine Arceis.

>>3987228
So Mrs. Kurosaki DID know that Junko was still alive?
>>
AND NOW SOME LAST WORDS:

THANK YOU FOR STICKING THROUGH THIS. I know there was a lot of arguing and debate, but I have to say, I think that for the most part, you guys hashed it out and came to a respectable conclusion. I appreciate the (relative) civility.

OKAY SO NOW I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT.

I won't be running tomorrow or the day after, obviously. Holidays. But that's not the announcement.

The announcement is that I'm not going to be running the day after that. Or the day after that. Or even the day after THAT.

In fact, I'm not running jack shit before the New Year. Because even with missing a day or two, constantly running is exhausting. I love it bunches, but I needs me a good long breather. Gonna go outside, do some winter things, yadda yadda.

HOWEVER. I am also a weak asshole and enjoy this a lot, and since I have a whole 9 pages to wait until this falls off the board, I'm going to do something I don't normally do:

Open up prompts. That is to say, you guys give me a SHORT prompt to write about regarding MGFH and if it tickles my fancy enough I'll write it. (like, maybe two posts, tops, fair warning.) Might be canon, might not, depends on how I feel that day. (I'll let you know). Can be about anyone or any subject. Miranda, Izumi, Lorelei, Sal, anyone in SES, anyone outside of it, or just facets of life in The Intersection in general, so long as it's interesting. Aside from that, feel free to use this thread to just shoot the shit about the universe and stuff you might like/dislike/want/not want/whatever. I enjoy casual discussion.

But on the whole, Miranda and co will be taking an end of year break as of tonight. I will proooobably be back to my regular schedule...around the 4th? ish. Keep an eye on Twitter, I'll let you know for sure there.

Grey and grey, and this so called Third party gang is largely untouched too. The city will need MGs to protect itself from that.

OH, i know.

>>
>>3987235
And now that I'm remembering, and since I'm hoping there might be one good thing for someone in this story, did Shirogane Hina make up with her older sister and get to stop hanging out with Karasu?

AND DID THE OCCULT CLUB FINALLY DO MAGIC?!
>>
>>3987240
Originally, me and Handler plan to do something for the first time. Buying out the contract from the organization with 100-150 large motes. But Izumi took too long to investigate and with Junko too overconfident with herself, so she got what she deserves without knowing what and why she did all of it.
>>
>>3987254
She did, after the breakup where Marie was announced dead, most of the girls who were "forced" to be in Karasu group took advantage to get out of the group. The school took a sharp population of transferring out of the school mostly girls.
>>
>>3987259
Heh, so going in low-key and in stealth worked against her since she underestimated the threat. Pride and Arrogance at it's finest. A Shame we couldn't get more motes though.
>>
>>3987273
Because she just thought that it's just another attack from the organization. And the funny thing is, it's not even her final form. I would say Arc is the MVP of this fight. Sealing her was the worst thing could happen on her.
>>
>>3987238
All right, I've got a prompt...

Prompts, pick and choose handler (I might add more later or tomorrow):
>Junko's final thoughts
>Izumi's last word with Marie, Yuu and Kanna
>a day in Owlias Lab
>Arc's first impressions in the intersection and her first meeting in her new company
>when the original trio first met each other.
>A snippet of the original trio's thoughts on their first outgoer jobs
>a small conversation: Izumi with her friends in her original world
>Since Lori told us about how she got to the intersection, how about a story on her perspective during that
>The funniest job Miranda has been on
>worst job any of the trio has been on
>Mono solo job
>What happened to Prima and Jagos first job?

>>3987259
Oh geez that would have been cool. Tell us, what should the trio have done to get Junko to buy us out? Was it to have Izumi actually join Marie's group?
>>
>>3987304
If Marie successfully convinced Izumi, she would have met Junko and there would be checks. First if she was sent by the organization. But if Izumi played her cards right, she would be invited to the mansion and Junko will explain why she is hell bent on destroying the organization. It's mainly on Izumi side really.
>>
>>3987308
oh wow, so junko failed because she sent the worst possible person to persuade someone. nice.
>>
>>3987310
Everyone else was busy doing their own thing I guess.
>>
>>3987238
What happened with the Experimental equipment, some of the results were apparent, but a good deal of them were VERY ambiguous, obviously if they have yet to resolve you don't have to spoil it, but I'd love to know, say, what we sucked out of Marie by accident, and why certain MGs got sick on teleportation and others did not.
>>
>>3987311
There was Yuu. It was also a check but it was beyond aggression on Yuu part. But I can understand her. With the group being paranoid, no one would want under that operating table. Like Natalya.
>>
>>3987319
Hey Corruptor, how valid were Junko's organization allegations?
I had the headcanon that is was just the branch office working with the yakuza and the global Organization was just respecting their autonomy by not investigating.

>>
>>3987326
The yakuzas and organization aren't the one and same. However, they're probably the most ambitious ones. They have a vision and that's is to be on the top. Now that the threat is gone, their reputation now preceeds them.
>>
>>3987336
Hm, so the Organization does habitually kidnap MGs and brainbleach'em? I was never exactly clear on what Junko's beef was in the first place desu.
>>
>>3987334
Ah fuck, my mistake I completely missed that. I guess it's too late to make a new one. Apologies.
>>
>>3987326
Also about Junko allegations, it's true. Random kids who got awakened to powers too early is a recipe to be kidnapped and then experimented of.
>>
>>3987340
Her main drive in destroying the organization is to stop the kidnapping/child trafficking just because they have something inside them. My universe has a thing called "essence". Basically if ANY Magical Girl fallen in battle, they would leave a ball of hope/despair essence that can be consumed by girls who are of age (14-17) to harness the powers within. Whatever powers and capabilities the MG had would be carried over to an individual. But the power has diminishing effects. The older the person is, the powers weaken.

Huh, I didn't realize so many people disliked the mafia world run. I suppose we did botch our foyer into Lorelei's wheelhouse on that job, and I didn't like how it felt rushed at the end, but perhaps the job would have gone on far too long else-wise.
The wild west job on the other hand I have no idea why people didn't like, that was fun.
>>
>>3987482
Note that it asked what was enjoyed. Don't take a lack of indication of enjoyment as dislike. Also it's been ages since some of those jobs, and some of them lack distinctive events, making it difficult to remember which job is which.

Ok, new ID.

>>3987482
The Mafia one was difficult because it was outside Miranda's skillset for most of it, and it really didn't. . . I was gonna say it didn't end well, but it was kind lf a shitshow from start to finish.

Didn't even get to loot the Casino.

Still, we got the sneak rune and whatnot from the harpy girl in the setting and that turned out to be awesome, so I think Mob World deserves some more love
>>
>>3987505
Gotta admit I'm pretty sad that Arc is being hated not because of her character but because of other anons forcing their opinions on their faces. She is probably more hated than Junko herself.
>>
>>3987505
>The Mafia one was difficult because it was outside Miranda's skillset for most of it, and it really didn't. . . I was gonna say it didn't end well, but it was kind lf a shitshow from start to finish.
Yup, completely. Miranda needed to be Stealthy, but she barely had enough time to do anything before everything exploded. That's not even mentioning the unforgettable Bleach incident.

In fact the worst part of that job for me was how the harpy girl was left crying. Anons simply did not know how to be subtle in that one.
>>
>>3987509
Some people just can't let go. She was not outright hated, the last hire slot is just rather competitive.
>>
>>3987509
I don't really hate Arc, that's why I was fine getting her a job in the intersection.

This mission just ended up being rushed, so there wasn't really time to develop chemistry with Arc. Like, it pretty much went "freed from brainwashing" to "bossfight" without much in between.

No offense, but I never had the chance to play your quest. Only got so much time you know? People who had, though, got really pushy about getting ANY character to join SES, and then just settled on Arc as the most convenient to do so.

I dunno, that's the risk with crossovers. I wasn't around for the one where we picked up Mono, but apparently it had the same issue.

I kinda liked Mono's skillset too, it was interesting to play around with, but she pretty much got kicked to the background right away.

With how long missions run, IRL, it's kinda a let down to have newbie characters that aren't really productive in the background.

A lot of people don't like resource management in the quest, but honestly we have a lot of resources manage both Mote-wise as well as SES infrastructure options, and Mirandas role as management now.

Maybe the answer is more big group missions like this one, but honestly it's hard to see how Arc would fit in, and evem then it starts to become an issue of which newbie to take along, Mono, Jago, or Arc.

Also sometimes I called Arc a sluuuuuuut for having worked with every faction involved here, mostly to tweak off the people constantly pushing to hire her.

I'm sorry if I caught your feelings in the crossfire there, but hey at least the people from your quest liked your characters enough to be absolutely insufferable trying to push them down our throats.
>>
>>3987509
>>3987524
At one point, some Anons were considering trying to hire Junko. Which as someone unfamiliar with Corruptors quest seemed absolutely insane. Luckily that idea was too unworkable even for the most ardent fans.

I mean, without knowing Corruptors quest, we got hired to take out Magical Girls gone bad, and the first contact was not flattering to them, and the whole mobster aspect . . .

Like, who even IS Arc to us? Even before being mind controlled, she worked for the client who clearly aren't on team good guys, and then she was mind controlled for most of our interactions.

Anons just want us to blindly trust her enough to bring her into SES as the final member? For all I know, she's crazy, or a super manipulative spy seems likely, or a multiple traitor (ties into spy), or a despair junkie who's gonna team kill or butcher people for fun maybe.

I. Don't. Know. Her. And there wasn't enough time on the mission to get to know her.
>>
>>3987534
You know anon, maybe you should take a few days off the thread? I don't really see anyone as frustrated as you in the thread right now. A few days off in holiday, not replying to anyone, not opening the thread. Then come back. Works wonders I telling you.
>>
>>3987541
Meh. It's the end of the thread, and end of the mission.

I really do feel bad that Corruptor had to deal with the shitshow of the hiring push, and I can't say I wasn't involved in it. So I figured I would take the time to try and explain it.
>>
>>3987566
You're dropping the issue then? Everyone else has already done so largely, the situation is resolved and you said yourself that you got what you want. I'm just asking you to not bring it up again unless the situation demands so, and not in an antagonistic manner to respect the peace. Just that, because I know you're invested in this, you can listen to reason and I think you should simmer down for a while. Those text walls were good indications for such I think.
>>
>>3987566
Well I understand your stance but it is resolved right? She can manage on her own. I mean she's a big girl already. All she need is a guide on how to do things in the intersection. She and Izumi can hook up offscreen so there's no worries.

About the "pushing the last slot to SES" is probably because they saw Arc skill set as "amazing" as opposed to utilities that is needed. I mean look at Miranda, she mainly utilizes buffs and a few attack spells. Arc has flashy skills with numerous restrictions to activate it's full potential. I really not familiar with Handlers type of jobs but she could be an Enforcer. She really isn't fitted as bruiser due to her skill set mainly to attack from afar and even then, there's isn't an enemy stupid to stand in the middle of the duration of fight. The final fight shows it that Arc needs a distraction/interference to hit her targets.

She may can operate solo but she works best with a partner.
>>
>>3987579
Meeeeeeeehbbe

I mean, I voted fairly moderately. But I do love shitposting.

>>3987582
Yeah, I did mention earlier that I was surprised at the potential for synergy with Arc acting as a kind of controller, but it was difficult to get a grasp of how her skills worked during one fight.

And I was somewhat committed to shitposting at that point. I gotta admit, I love it.
>>
>>3987582
Speaking as someone who's familiar with Handler's type of jobs, she's Enforcer material, but not on the same level as someone like Miranda, not even close, comparing them is just unfair. Miranda's a generalist with tools for almost every situation by now: melee, ranged, non-lethal stuns and disables, area denial, area scanning, detection tools and a finishing nuke - she has it all. Her only weaknesses are she can't be sneaky to save her life, and her talking skills can do some work. But that's OK, she's specced for pure cheesy beat downs and I'd say she's the best fighter of SES power-wise, as opposed to Lorelei who is not a good fighter but can charm the hoard off a poor dragon, right under its own nose.

You're right that Arc works better with a partner, and I just got that from you pointing it out. I do encourage you to stay and play with us, might have to drop the trip when voting though, no offense.

>>3987603
I suggest you keep your littering to other things then, not this quest please. It's a thing to have fun, it's not when it's destructive to your own environment like that.
>>
>>3987582
Also new players might not know this, but Miranda having a limited repetoire of "punch it", "blow it up", and "BLOW EVERYTHING UP" has been an issue of itself in the past.

Looking at you, bleach spaghetti, but even in Skyworld there were issues with mana costs and trying to figure out less than lethal takedowns.

There's been a push to work on using her barriers to control the environment more, or to boost her mobility with skates and wings, or synergize it like the barrier bombs, but looks like people forgot about them this mission and focused on the obvious counter to shadows, solar flare and being a high enough power level to not really need complex maneuvers for 1v1 fights.

That limitation was also part of why I suggested shooting Marie. Letting Junko push our lines with shadows and who knows what other tricks could have ended up pulling Miranda out of position, or slowly draining their mana.

Actually

> What was Junkos planned tactics before we shot Marie?

I'm curious if I'm overstating the effect it had.
>>

I mean, it was clearly just a misspeing and I'm making a joke. Like I said, pretty much every vote I supported won this thread. Even voting for Arc to go to the intersection. The other anon can cry that I have a hateboner, and you can faux sympathy that I'm worked up and need to leave. Or you could just stop bringing it up, or resist the urge to tell me how horrible I am for not thinking the sun shone out of Arcs ass. I am happy to post a variety of smug anime faces for you if you want to do that instead of honestly discuss how/why I wanted to not hire Arc, since apparently "walls of text" concern you
>>
>>3987611
Honestly, it's been such a recurring issue that taking some time to hash out what kind of person/role we want for the last slot might e good.

We could talk to the other members of SES and get a solid grasp on what benefits different roles might bring, and we can then tighten up the rest of it with things like the planes and . . . Well mostly the planes.

We could also ask Sal if he has any missions where we would be likely to find that kind of person/skillset and kinda set up a mission for it, see if we find anyone we like.

Also there's still hiring within the intersection, maybe we could take a couple B ranks with potential but blocked career paths to A rank on a mission and pick someone from the group.
>>
>>3987619
Well, I'll drop it for now, but I was genuinely concerned, those text walls are signs of you taking it too seriously, and I voted to take Arc too, I'm a "moderate". But you believe whatever you believe, and you said you love "shitposting".

And then I vote to pawn her off somewhere in the intersection, just to shut Arcfags up, and that vote wins because most of them actuay aren't unreasonable and dedicated to trying to force an unpopular choice through out of spite.

Prima and Jago opening up their Christmas gifts: the androids we stole back in the mecha world.
>>
>>3987330
>>3987334
I liked that one but it also made me a bit uncomfortable. Probably because the players were so serious in trying to kill the poor initiate. Made me pity that guy.
>>
>>3988000
> Probably because the players were so serious in trying to kill the poor initiate.
There were lots of motivations floating around for that one. It was Mono's first mission, she had never killed before and it was low stakes, the initiate was supposed to be able to bypass her in order to win and he failed to do so, among others.

I also enjoyed it. At the time it was indicated Randa was called up by these guys on a semi-regular basis. Ir would be interesting to run it again, as randa or someone else. The more powerful of SES would have to handicap themselves though, as I assume randa has, otherwise no one would have passed.
>>
>>3988000
I didn't particularly like that mission, I just remembered it existed but wasn't on the poll
>>
>>3988000
I wanted him to succeed, and I thought we were doing well. A shame that he figured out the trick with the stage. Iirc he nicked mono with poison and then it actually became dangerous. Unfortunately he fucked up in the last encounter with the beast, and at that point even holding back he didn't stand a chance. Really, we shouldn't have looted the crossbow.

The client wanted the recruit to die if he wasn't good enough and that we refrain from simply letting him go. It was a single moment of bad luck

Curious to see if we can power her up to ridiculous levels eventually. Given her affinity for high tech weapons we could have some fun with mines and the mole launcher when combined with warped perception
>>
>>3988538
She's young, and has a lot of potential, so probably she can, specially if we can find a way for her to warp reality without her singing.
>>
>>3988538
I actually kinda like Mono, her powerset is super interesting. It would be cool to see her high level use of it.

>stick mines to tree
>make them look like apples
>???
>profit
>>
>>3988551
I don't think that anybody grabs a random apple from a tree -unless you are that hungry- or its your tree. But it could work if you replace a mine for the mark's food.
>>
>>3988541
At the moment she has to sing even just to use the murmur stones so learning to reality warp without singing will probably come at some point after figuring out how to control mana and use simpler magic without having to sing it.

Greetings Handler.

Since we’re close to the end of the year, I want to give you something.

First, a logo of SES’s Outgoer division. Simple I know, and I’m not too satisfied with the font, so I’m also going to give you it’s PSD for further adjustments: https://mega.nz/#!0NYURCCQ!8rdTll5BVg-ML9k22w_1LsrB4aHUcoI7yIehUsEdsdw

Oh, and my prompt is: How Miranda has been dealing with her newfound fame from the movie.

Second, this.

Without further ado, I bid you farewell. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I got some ideas for prompts:
>Sal setting up a job with a would-be client. Either a job we've already been at or something completely new
>Lori being an ass on some Intersection social media because riling up people (and other life forms) for no reason is fun
>Jago visiting that piston bar or whatever his secret robot hangout was called
>Cylica getting drunk
>Mono having large-handed-person problems with various tiny electrical devices.
Speaking of which, does the Futuresight come in just one size or are there suitable versions for everyone?
>Izumi giving Mono (or maybe one or both of the bots?) a lesson on combat or magic
>a rough day at work at the cookboy's restaurant
>>
>>3987238
Something I'm curious and I'm sure Miranda is curious about too after that buster wolf launcher she used on Junko, how hard CAN she punch things now? In a neutral setting, so not the dampened Intersection, and not in an amplified setting either, though I can't think of one off the top of my head.
Before she could punch through a concrete wall, with all her personal power amps, can she punch through tank plates?

Happy new year handler, I do wonder what cultural practices Sal follows, if there is?

Okay, now that everything is over, maybe we could discuss what are we gonna do with the fat stacks of motes that we currently have. It was like 90-something before this job + another hundred in HQ funds. I think upgrading our current items would be a good idea, like enchanting the rapier for even bigger magical boost or adding those magistone sockets to our gauntlets so there would be more uses for them other than being an ultimate repair kit.
By the way, there're weapons from the shadow demon war mission that we still have to appraise and decide whether to sell them or not.
>>
>>3991898
first things first is restocking. we used some mines and C4, at least. Top that stuff back up. I'm game for weapons upgrades. I'd like to make that axe we got a while back actually usable, but some anons seem to detest the thing.
The gauntlets are usable as weapons, we just have no need of them as weapons. More utility functions might be best actually.
>>
>>3991919
The thing with the axe is that is too unwieldy, doesn't fit inside the bag of holding and it doesn't have any particular advantage compared to the weapons we have. Unless we can enchant it with... a return to owner spell, weight reduction, invulnerability and something else, its just not with it.
What we could try to learn are the shotgun fists. The ones that have the concentrated power of a nebula buster(proportinally speaking ofc) in a very short cone thay expands from our fists. That should cover our need of something that can oblitarate a target withour destoying a whole city block.
>>
>>3991942
>shotgun fists
>>
>>3991942
>The thing with the axe is that is too unwieldy, doesn't fit inside the bag of holding and it doesn't have any particular advantage compared to the weapons we have.
That was what I was speaking to about making it useable. I'd like to at least try the thing out once at some point.
To be fair, a rapier is a terrible choice for someone like Randa; she's a bruiser, and an axe would let her put her strength to better use.

But I'm not looking for a fight, so that's all I'll say on the matter for now.
>>
>>3991955
to be fair, I think the rapier should be treated as a wizard staff that can poke people as a bonus
>>
>>3991955
Eh, given all the things we have to do to make that thing usuable, at that point we might as well custom order an axe from scratch, which might be better on the long run. Now that i think about it, miranda might like fighting with what basically is leviathan.

>>3991954
Yup, something like that, but capable of unleashing the power of a mini nebula buster in each hit.
>>
>>3991976
yeah, custom weapon is a much better option than having to deal with random spoils
>>
>>3991976
>>3991980
I’m assuming that place where we got the Mansplitter and Ferrah’s helmet repaired might also make custom weapons. It’ll be interesting to see what the daughter could come up with for an axe.

Canon.

>...Relax, this isn’t going up anywhere! Just making memories- and giving a lil primer to the newbies! Okay? Okay, lesse...ah.

>Heeeey! Hihi! Sooo, welcome to our little Silver Eye Solutions soiree! This is Lorelei coming atcha, and we’re here for our own personal Winterfest bash! So, for those of you that don’t get it…

>We’re right here, Lorelei. No need to-

>Hush, Cy, she’s got a thing goin’ on!

>Thanks! ANYway, For those of you that don’t get it, since a TON of folks come from a lot of different places and all, a bunch of them like to still celebrate what they used to- some for fun, some just to keep that lil’ piece of home. And one of the things that’s suuuuper common is an ‘end o’ year’ type of celebration! Me, ‘Zumi, and ‘Randa all have one, too, so we like to partake in the festivities...some more than others- ‘Randa.

>Hey. I partake, I’m just not one for caroling and making merry in public and all that.

>POINT BEING. We decorate our apartments, bake, and generally try to at least get each other one gift. Something either helpful on the job, or just for a gag- y’know, funsies sake!

>I think you’ll like yours this year, Lorelei. I tried to keep your preferences in mind.

>Is it a weapon? Again?

>Well...I suppose it could be considered one. Did you want one? I thought about it, but-
>Nonononono, that’s fine! Just checking! Moving on! We also have games and movie time, and it’s gonna be great!

>Er, Ms. Lorelei, if I may ask. Are we expected to...imbibe? As you know, I as well as Jago are mechanical in nature and thus cannot get drunk...in traditional ways.

>Wait, ‘traditional’? ‘Ow can a metal...doll...thing...like you get drunk at ALL?

>Ms. Mono, THAT is a very good question I have yet to be able to truly ascertain. However rest assured, I have felt an effect approximating the typical description of ‘drunkenness’.

>Say wot?! An’ I aven’t!? Shelia, you been holdin’ out on me?

>Yes.

>Well, why?!

>Because I dread what may occur to the vicinity were you to suffer the same effects.

>Aaaaanyway, we’re gonna get right to the good stuff! First thing’s first! PRESENTS!

>Wow, that fast, huh? Fine. But I’ll go first, get them out of the way. Izumi, here ya go. Hope you enjoy it. Tried to not be obvious.

>Hmmm...so it’s likely not a weapon...and you know that I generally am not one for simple frivioties…

>Oh yeah, she does this, tries to guess the present before she opens it. Get a snack, everyone, this might take a bit…

>Nono! I’ll simply open it, there’s far more of us now, after all. Let’s see...oh! My my. A book? ‘Spirited Awakening: Martial Arts and Chi Techniques for the Warrior Within.’ Interesting. I cannot say I have this one.

>Oh? I did not expect we would be recieving gifts. We are only recent additions to this-

>Oi, you hush!

>...Hup. Here you are.

>What the!? Are those BODIES?

>Relax, they’re not dead. Never were alive. Pretty sure they’re biomech.

> Wait, these are…!

>Yup. Figured that trying to stick to robot-only jobs would be hard. If you guys ever want to, I’m fairly confident we can find some way to transfer your black box tech into these for whenever you want a bit of variety.

>Wowza. Thaaaat’s some interesting tech…say, you think I might-

>No, dear. That’s their gift, not yours.

>Awwww.

>Speaking of your gifts...catch!

>Whoa! Nice arm! Lesse, what’d I get, what’d I geeeeeeet...WHOA! Oh, what’s this? Some kinda...arm backpack thing?

>Saw it in a store, it’s called a ‘Octoarm Pack.’ Specifically for movement and science doing, apparently. Can fix a bunch of different manipulators or measurement tools and stuff on the ends. Hands, claws, syringes, you name it. All manipulated via synaptic sensors.

>Sweet! This’ll help, plus your other gift that I already know about. Speaking of-

>Yeah, that’s done. It’s waiting to be activated in your lab.

>You’re awesome. Thanks. What’d YOU get, Cy? Oh, a book?

>...yes.

>...*pft* ‘How to Dial It Down: Being Friendly Without Losing that Spark’. Brutal.

>I assume this is a joke gift, correct?

>Sure.

>Whatcha get me? I been waiting!

>Calm down, wolfy, she’ll get to you.

>Right now, in fact. You’ve been holding up pretty well, and I thought I should reward and celebrate that. So I did a bit of searching, called around. Managed to find this.

>Hmmm...oh, hey, issa scarf! Kinda fancypants fer me, though, ain’t it?

>Well, it only LOOKS like a scarf. I know you have mana, and I know you have trouble using it outside of your singing since that’s what you DO. This thing apparently can conduct it REALLY well, and it can use that mana to change its shape, form, and length. This thing can change from that, to string, to rope, even chain, sorta. So you can do a bit more than just...warp...reality...via singing. Gotta admit, saying it out loud makes me think…

>Ohhh. Neat! Gonna have to get some practice in with this baby, then. Still not really sure how to channel the stuff to anywhere from my lips, but…thanks!

>Oh dear.

>Oh goodness.

>Wow.

>Didn’t see that coming.

>...I kinda want to both hit you and congratulate you, ‘Randa. Didn’t think you had it in you.

>Gooood use. Heh.

>...Good thing the kids aren’t here, huh?

>Yeah, I’m gonna go say hi to them later.

>Aw, that’s sweet. Well, I’m gonna go put this in my bedroom. FOR LATER. A VERY LOUD LATER. HOPE YOU DON'T WANT TO SLEEP, JUST SAYIN'.

Now...about the bodies. We have to check them before we upload prima and jago into them. I'm pretty sure that they have an AI already and i don't think that j&p would like to see that two ai died for them.
>>
So, I did a thing.

I basically wrote up an item description for Junko's friendship bracelet, since it sounded like we pulled it off Junko as a sort of memento. It's basically like one of those items from an RPG that when you equip it, makes the game a bit harder for an extra challenge. It is, of course, non-canon unless Handler decides otherwise.

>Junko's Friendship Bracelet
>Intimidation +2, Humor -2
>Formally worn by Junko Kurosaki, the Shadow Queen of Ryomeki City, this is a braided friendship bracelet given to her by one of her friends, who eventually became her leutendant. While it looks like a normal (if well worn) friendship bracelet, an aura of dark anger directed at you is palpable whenever you put it on, effecting the emotions of people nearby. While most people wouldn't want to wear an item that feels like it actively hates them, it does have the effect of making any foes nearby focus on hitting you over avoiding your allies attacks or using tactics.

>Special: People who you've just met will start off as either more antagonistic or intimidated towards you, until you earn their trust. Minor and aggressive enemies will be more aggressive when fighting you, but will forgo tactics for the first or second round.
>>
>>3993399
A little bit of a correction.

1st the bracelet wasn't braided by her friend but bought on one of the gift shop in the city. She bought 3 of them. One for her, one for Marie and one for Junko. She bought it in mind that she haven't gifted her except food. Because food is all Yuu cares about.

2nd the bracelet could be well-worn but probably not. She is probably taking special care to it. But maybe 5 years would probably show it's weariness.

Lastly holy fuck a vengeful cursed item? I think i would be so too.
>>
>>3993476
1. Gotcha, I'll rewrite the description to better fit. Would you say it's made of metal, plastic or wood?

2. I had assumed that Junko would have been wearing it constantly, possibly even putting a bit of magic into it and the ones given to her friends for protection or to 'feel' the state of each other.

3. The world description mentioned emotion based magic. I would expect that something that's been worn by a shadow tainted magical girl who died while absolutely furious at the person who killed her and eventually her friends would carry over some of those emotions. Especially if her killer decides to wear it, for some reason.
>>
>>3993399
I like that the powers are balanced. I'd feel weird actually wearing the thing,
but you did a good job tweaking the abilities. Not 100% on that list line though.

It more generally brings up the idea of cursed equipment; stuff that either can't be taken off or have heavy downsides, but also come with strong upsides.
Is this sort of thing available in the Intersection? And would it be cheaper than normal gear?
I really like the idea of having to work around some oddball downside, but getting an upside in return. Maybe some equipment a job requires, like a mask or special sword or something?
>>
>>3992841
>speakers
Now what would be a more awkward voicepack for it to have installed on it, Jago's or Miranda's?
>>
>>3993583
Miranda's, in a very monotone and dissapointed voice.
>>
>>3993502
1. It's probably made with wood repainted into different colors like you gonna found in souvenir shop but I leave it up to you which material works best.

2. It would be correct. But it only worked inside the city. Once outside, it wouldn't work.

3.No this is the best thing you could explain for, so go for it. I'm not really against it. In fact I like that a cursed item would give a really good intimidation stat.
>>
Alright, here's Junko's Friendship Bracelet Ver 2.0, now with updated lore.

>Junko's Friendship Bracelet
>Intimidation +2, Humor -2
>Formally worn by Junko Kurosaki, the Shadow Queen of Ryomeki City, this is a friendship bracelet made of carved and painted wood she had bought with two other bracelets for her and her friends Marie and Yuu, who eventually became her lieutenants. While it looks like a normal friendship bracelet, an aura of dark anger directed at you is palpable whenever you put it on, effecting the emotions of people nearby.

Enemies will be more aggressive when fighting you, but will forgo tactics for the first or second round.

Hope it fits better with MGR quest, Corruptor.

Also, since there was mention of commissioning a custom weapon for Miranda when Handler comes back from his break, I've thought about suggesting a magical parrying dagger concept, one that could either dissipate magical attacks or reflect them towards a new target, something we could use in tandem with the Baron's Rapier.
>>
>>3994872
>something we could use in tandem with the Baron's Rapier.
The rapier isn't usually used as an attack weapon; just like how the other anon said, its more like a staff that amplifies our spells. also, a dagger isn't miranda's style at all. it would be better a heavy shield or something she could use to bash and crush people.
>>
>>3994885
Personally, I'd think a shield wouldn't see as much use, since Miranda's fast enough to dodge most attacks, and can summon barriers besides. Plus we've also had arguments regarding the axe being too big and heavy to use, so why not go for the lightning bruiser option?

Regardless, I think we should look into getting a good dagger/knife option, especially for situations that a sword would be too much, and maybe look into practicing dual wielding.
>>
>>3994938
>axe being too big and heavy to use, so why not go for the lightning bruiser option?
the latest idea is that because its a hassle to make that axe usable, its better to order one from scratch, preferably like the one here >>3991976 so it can be used by miranda to its fullest potential.

as for the shield, well, it temachically makes sense that something that can stop, reflect or parry missiles has the shape of the shield. the parrying dagger works as well, but that fits more with lorelei than miranda.
>>
>>3994885
>also, a dagger isn't miranda's style at all. it would be better a heavy shield or something she could use to bash and crush people.
I wholeheartedly agree. Agility builds are overdone, and it's not randa's style anyways.
>>
>>3994952
Izumi IS the agility build
>>
>>3994958
but a parrying dagger is more for the agile kind, the ones that... parry the attacks instead of stopping them in their tracks. something like that dagger fits, but with lorelei, who definitely uses daggers on a daily basis.
>>
Personally, I'd like to recast starmetal from the rapier and make a custom battle axe or a mace - so we could keep the magic-enhancing properties, have a suitable weapon for our character and avoid inflating our inventory. And maybe we could ask to add some enchantments or runes or whatever, maybe even seither crystals - we could go all out on this bad boy.

>>
>>3995056
The reason I proposed smelting the rapier is because anons prefer to use Flamebringer in melee and the new toy would overshadow the rapier, plus as I said before - we've got quite a lot of weapons already.
>>
>>3995056
>>3995063
We don't know if the rapier is made from starmetal, though, and even if it is, there's no way there's enough material to make an axe or mace from it, even a one handed one. Plus, the rapier's a pretty good costume piece.
>>
>>3995056
I'm not against the idea, but I have two concerns:

A rapier doesn't contain much metal. We'd need to find more of or pay the difference for materials for a significant portion of any reforging into a larger weapon.

I'm not a fan of Randa having a 'signature' weapon. I'm afraid if we make some ultra amazing piece of equipment that's all anons will ever want to use. It's fun to constantly try out and experiment with looted gear.
>>
>>3995069
>We don't know if the rapier is made from starmetal
It is starmetal that gives flamebringer and rapier their high mana conductivity. I'll double check this once I'm home though.
Rapiers weight only slightly less than longswords, but yeah, there's not enough of it to make an entirely new weapon. The idea was to keep that magic enhancing property, even though somewhat diminished - probably have to use it on the core of the shaft and blade coating.
>>
>>3995078
>even though somewhat diminished
then its not really worth it. better to have the rapier untouched than to diminish its power.
>>
>>3995069
>>3995071
Oh, yeah, there's also the risk that the magic isn't a natural effect of the metal, and that whatever the rapier becomes won't gain the previous effect. Plus, the whole "we spent 12 motes on this thing to not be subsumed into our stats" thing.

>>3995078
Yes, but that doesn't mean the rapier's definitely made from starmetal (or the Flamebringer, either). Remember, that stuff was really rare in that world. It'd make more sense that it just has a mana enhancing enchantment on it.
>>
>>3995098
Whoever we hire to work on it will have answers to these questions.
>>
>>3996421
Gee iunno, sounds like a nerd question, we already have 2 nerds we can ask.
>>
>>3996421
Honestly, I'd still prefer to keep the rapier around as an option. It makes for a pretty good primary ornamental weapon for magical worlds, and we got some good kills with it.

There is that Minus One storage selling thingy, we could try putting up a trade for a magic axe for one or two of our other items. We're not using the buckler and sword combination we pulled off Carrang, or the whip and curved sword from Ferrah.

Starmetal
>"Considering most humans can barely use magic these days, and those who can are in the royal courts and other very important people, it's treasured stuff!"
So stametal is super rare and only given to important people gifted with magic, who are super rare as well. Note that there're no mentions of anything else that had similar properties, so there's no other METAL like that that could conduct mana so well.

Flamebringer
>“Aww. But you wanna know about those? They're basically...well, swords that light on fire. Horinth only gives those out to elite warriors, ones with unusually high capacity for mana. At least, that's what I know of it. Apparently you feed it mana to light it on fire, and that magic flame is like, a step below dragonfire. No one knows how it's so potent, but...geez. Did like, the one guy have all of this on him?”
The guy who had it had both requirements checked out - general of the Flameguard and had lots of mana. He was able to succesfully block a magiblast with this sword - the fact that it survived the explosion is no small feat, considering that another magiblast was able to pierce through his fancy armor. It still doesn't state outright that it is made out of starmetal.

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/565617/
Basil
>Basil ROARS in anger, channeling his mana nearly by instinct and letting loose with a massive punch that not only flattens the offender, but the wave of mana forces the throng of soldiers behind him to collapse.
I assume that people who have mana prefer to boost their own body rather than of empowering their weapons or using enchanted equipment
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/591020/
Baron
>Geegee shrugs. “Honestly, nothin’ you probably don't already know. He's kinda a fink, but he gets away with a bunch of stuff because his pops is a court official for the King. He's got a stupid high mana reserve, ‘cause he's lucky like that, too. Never worked a day in his life though; just rides around, buys stuff, and practices that sword to look good for the ladies. Fun fact: the creepo even hit on me once. I'm a married goblin, thank you!” She says with indignity.
Important guy - check. Has stronk magics - check.

Crystals
Now this is the important part. Almost all enchanted stuff that's been encountered in that mission either had crystals in them or were crystals themselves - keys, mind-washing crystals, Adel's armor and sword that gave him enough boosts to fight Miranda, etc. And if some weapons had those crystals in them then that means they were enchanted. These crystals are NOT present in Flamebringer and Baron's Rapier.
>>
>>3996623
Thread #15 - got gravistone added in the western mission
>She’s quick to greet you. “Ah, hi there! Seems like you’re the punctual sort. Glad to say I finished your modifications late last night!” And with a bright, if tired smile, she presents you your Flamebringer. It’s a good-looking job, with a fairly reasonably sized divot in the pommel, with a double-clasp for where the gem should go. There’s a couple of extra metal lines attaching to the blade itself, right at the end, that feeds from said clasps, but they’re small, and the grip’s not too much different. Fortunately, it seems like the stone’ll be out of the way, and at little risk of getting cracked, unless you tried to bash someone over the head with said pommel- which, to be frank, you figure your fists will be better at. “As you can see, it took some working, but I managed it!” She seems rather proud. “The metal itself was harder to carve than I thought- but it was surprisingly conductive! I didn’t have to use quite as many materials as I’d guessed.”
Now THIS confirms that Flamebringer is made out of Starmetal. And considering that the rapier has better in terms of conducting and empowering spells then it gotta be Starmetal ass well.
>>
>>3996623
>So stametal is super rare and only given to important people gifted with magic, who are super rare as well.
We shouldn't get overly attached to a particular metal; different parts made of different materials will have various upsides and downsides.

Also, be wary of assuming too much about various materials across the multiverse; just because starmetal exists in one place with this set of properties doesn't mean it exists in all of them with those properties. Star metal might be the high-end material of choice in one place, while, say, enchanted poisonwood is the material of choice elsewhere.
>>
>>3996637
anon, we've treated those items - they won't change those properties. What is that statement is supposed to mean anyway?
>>
>>3996637
i did all this just to prove you that those items were indeed starmetal cause some anons said that "We don't know if the rapier is made from starmetal, though"
>>
>>3996626
>Now THIS confirms that Flamebringer is made out of Starmetal.

No, anon, it just means that it was surprisingly conductive. We had shown the Flamebringer to a scholar at the Moon Knight fortress, and she didn't confirm that it was starmetal. And if any place would know what starmetal would look like in that world, it would be either them or GeeGee's hubby.
>>
>>3996643
Again, no we don't. That's an assumption you're making. And even if one of them WAS, doesn't mean the other was too. They could enchant weapons that weren't made of starmetal there, you know?
>>
>>3996654
Anon, there were no other metals in that world with those properties, which made the star metal legendary. And weapons that WERE enchanted had crystals in them.
>>
>>3996664
if those were simple enchantments and not properties of the material then what was the point for Handler to mention starmetal in the first place.
>>
>>3996637
Ha, imagine going to a universe with an enchanted posionwood fishing pole and casually smashing someone's adamantine sword.
That makes me laugh

Anon, there was no mention about how starmetal was the only way to get a weapon enchanted. Just that it had mana enhancing capabilities.

Here, let me show you everything we found out about starmetal. I mean EVERYTHING. It's from Zarach in the second ever thread.

>Something stuck out at you real quick there. “Wait, first, what's this about starmetal? How legendary is it?”

>“Oh, that?” He gets this giddy look on his face. “Well, I'd tell you the basics, but that wouldn't do it justice. Starmetal is EXTREMELY legendary. Reason being because the ore it's made of is naturally conductive of mana- sucks in the latent magical energies in the earth and holds it. Proper starmetal looks like normal iron, but takes on a super dark hue the more mana it absorbs, with incredibly small sparks of the latent mana in it- hence why it's called STARmetal. Get it?”

>You nod. “Got it.”

>“Good. Because starmetal is pretty much NOWHERE these days. Lat major ore deposit was found fifty-five years ago, not long before the last Elder Dragon vanished. It's such a big deal because it can absorb just about any kind of magic that it comes into contact with, and can unleash it to anyone who has the gift to utilize magic at all. Considering most humans can barely use magic these days, and those who can are in the royal courts and other very important people, it's treasured stuff! Even finding an ounce of ore can make you a VERY rich person.” He frowns somewhat. “Kind of a shame, really.” Geegee- my wife- would likely have found a way to convince them...I hope she's alright. But!” He brightens back up. “Business beckons! Here's a basic list...”

From what I can tell, the rapier and the flamebringer haven't got any mana absorption abilities, and don't look like super dark iron with sparkles of mana. Just mana amplification and the ability to light on fire.

Okay, if you want to go back and forth with "NO, YOU ARE ASSUMING THINGS, NOT ME", then keep going. The discussion started with "what should we do about our weapons", my stance is that we should improve what we already have instead of taking more stuff and the idea of reusing starmetal got no support. At the end of the day, rapier still enhances magic and sword goes 'fwoosh'. I'm done with you, lore-anon.

Yeah, lets get rid of all the useless weapons we have and get a sweet axe. and maybe a reflecting shield.

Happy New Year, all!

Here's to another year of magical mercenary work.

Here's also hoping I finish that MGFH project I'm not talking about anymore beyond this sentence.

Canon

>“So. New session, kiddos. That right?”

>“Uhuh! We had end of course tests the other day, aaand we all did pretty good!”

>“That so, Tami? Good to hear. They do the usual practical/theoretical split?”

>“Yup! I weren’t so good on the part where they ask you to take a product and redesign it, but I aced pretty much everythin’ else. Harp was pretty good at it, though...figured I might ask her for help.”

>“Sounds like a plan. Sounds like you lot are getting closer, too.”

>“Yeah! Turns out they’re all pretty neat! Harp’s a pretty smart cookie once you get past the shyness! Noran’s pretty beefy, too, so anything that I need lifted or put together he’s happy to do. Mewla kinda does whatever she feels like, but it usually helps!”

>“Ah. What do you mean by that, though?”

>“Well, way I figure it, we might as well get a head start on doing Outgoer-y stuff, right? So I figured it’d be a good idea to start gettin’ Motes as soon as possible! And one of the best ways to do that is do stuff for House kids!”

>“Doing what?”

>“Iunno, stuff! Whatever needs doing, I guess, so long as they can pay somehow! Sometimes we make stuff, sometimes we don’t.”

>“You’re not doing anything violent, are you? You save that for the outside.”

>“Well, course not! We just help kids, or sometimes I get an idea and we’ll try an’ see if kids’ll give us anything for it! Like one time, we tried to make a really cool scary maze in the techno-library an’ charge kids like two lil motes a head- but that didn’t work out too well.”

>“Why not?”

>“Cause we forgot that the tech kids don’t like people messin’ with their stuff. We had to do a loooooot of fixin’ stuff after everyone stopped freaking out. But it was worth it ‘cause we learned how to do that neat thing they call ‘weldin’! Sorta, at least. But afterwards we thought about makin’ a thing and doin’ transport- kinda like a Courier! We’re just about finished with it!”

>“...You’re keeping pretty busy, aren’t you.”

>“Yup! So when can we come over next?”

>“Soon. I’ve got some things to do around the homefront, so I won’t be accepting a new job for a little bit. You can follow me around for them.”

>“Sweet! The others are gonna love this!”

>“I’ll bet.”
