/qst/ - Quests

This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son, several years after I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present.

You play as Takeshi. A highly capable Chunin, who is returning from years of training with Sasuke Uchiha. A new journey is starting.

As always, voting rules are as follows. Voting is typically completed following 15 minutes after the first vote. This may be subject to change according to activity.

Takeshi's Skills and Abilities

Looking to the sky, you give Majima the signal to head on back. He puffs into a cloud of smoke, returning to the Owl village.

You sigh. At no point did you actually think you were going to beat your sensei, but it was still a frustrating experience. Even though he was drunk and rolling around on the floor, all he had to do was unleash his raw power to overcome anything you could do.

Hanto calls out. "Help me up you tall glass of shit!"

He continually slips in the soapy froth as he attempts to regain his composure. "Make this stuff go away!"

You shrug, and walk forward to help him, walking steadily on the Soap you've created with Soap Walking. It's a modified version of Water Walking that you created, somewhat naturally. Now that you think about it, other people won't be able to do this. "I can't, Sensei. It usually stops being slippery after a few minutes."

He burps, and holds out his hands above him as he lays flat on his back. "Drag me out of this shit."

Your powerful sensei looks quite displeased as you slide him across the grass, into more steady terrain. This time he returns to his feet, with only a few wobbles on the way up.

He burps again, and heads over to the training log and retrieves his second flask. He takes a long swig of it, then plops down. "Well, I think I got a pretty good idea of what you can do now. Yeah, you should be able to make good use of Dragon Boxing. It'll be different from what Kichiro, me, or Sarasu do."

Sarasu is Hanto's father, a Jounin of the leaf and the creator of the Dragon Boxing Style.

"Do you have any tips for me in general, first?"

He looks up at you, raising an eyebrow, and takes another long swig.

Hanto reaches deep into his vest pockets, and pulls out a cigarette. "Thank god they didn't get soap'd.."

Using a blue flame from his thumb, he lights it, takes a long drag, and looks back to you. "You did everything right. Or at least, as right as you could have done it. The gap in raw power was just too big."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEWF2xh5E8s

You smile. "Well, thanks sensei. I'll keep working to improve, and-"

"Shut the fuck up." he growls.

You blink. "H-huh?"

Hanto blows out another cloud of smoke. "I said shut the fuck up. Do you really think you're going to get far with that kind of attitude? If you try your best, things will work out, huh?"

He grabs onto your shirt from below and uses it to pull himself up, reeking of liquor and booze. "Do you remember what I said at the start of this fight? How, if I didn't have this power, I'd just be another mediocre Chunin?"

You nod. He stares deeply into your eyes, holding tightly onto your shirt. "Takeshi. Don't you still wanna be the greatest?" He's clenching his hands so tightly that they're shaking. Biting down on his teeth, Hanto crushes the filter of the cigarette in his mouth.

He thrusts forward, pushing you back and creating a little distance. "Are you really fine with this? Yeah. You've gotten a lot stronger, Takeshi. You're so capable, it's unreal. You're intelligent, hard working, diligent, a perfect student. You never, ever give up. You care about your friends and would do anything to protect them. Your only fallback..."

Hanto holds up his hand, and slowly clenches it into a fist. A blue flame envelops it. "I'm just an unskilled, untalented, lazy drunk. But I beat you. That's how unfair all this shit is."

You look down to the ground, pausing before you speak. There's a lump in your throat. "I don't understand, Sensei. Are you telling me all this is pointless?"

He shakes his head. "No. As far as shinobi go, you're the cream of the crop. When it comes to the ordinary. But you must have noticed it during your training, your years away. Boruto, Sarada, even Ai. They all have their blood, and talent. Sasuke Uchiha..."

Hanto looks down to the ground too, putting his hands at his sides and clenching his fists tightly. "Naruto Uzumaki. These are the people who shape history. Takeshi, I believe in your dream. But, do you, really?"

Feel free to modify the sentence in whichever way makes sense Mini. Just wanted this to be more our sentiment. When I was thinking of how Takeshi would respond. The kid who during the chunin exams and beyond went repeatedly against people who by all rights had a massive power gap compared to us. And when I think that this is the guy amoungst his generation who by far has set his sights the highest. I just can't imagine him sobbing about the power gap or dismissing his sensei's concerns. I just imagine Takeshi thinking in this moment "No ones immune to a well placed and timed senbon in the eye" and "I lost a lot in the academy too, I'm still gonna be the greatest shinobi that ever lived". How true that is is beside the point of course.

"Yes. I still want to be the greatest shinobi that ever lived. Though, it does seem unfair. This huge gap between the ordinary and the extraordinary. But that's what makes it fun, exciting even, since day one. That gap is what I live for defying. At the end of the day, we're all still flesh and blood. I believe in that 1% chance."

Hanto stares at you for a short while. The wind sweeping across the training field rustles the trees. The morning mist is gone, and now the sun is hanging high overhead. Hanto looks back down, and sighs. "I wanna tell you that you don't know what you're getting into, but I guess you do. To train underneath one of the two strongest men in the world, but still feel that way... I really don't get you, Takeshi. But whatever. I'll help you nonetheless. It is a little bit exciting to think I might be helping the one who can do it."

You scratch your chin. "Do what, sensei?"

He smiles, before looking up at the clouds. "Defeat destiny."

Hanto walks a few steps away, looking at the trees. "Alright then! Now that I know you're still in it to win it, we can progress. You did do just about everything right, but there's two serious flaws in your gameplan. Neither of which are really your fault."

You nod. Admittedly, your fists clench slightly in excitement.
>>
He continues. "You're right, you almost had me with Ephemeral. It's a really strong Genjutsu. But it costs lot of chakra. As does that big summon of yours. I bet you're at less than half capacity, and I've barely scratched my resources. You have a couple strong attacks, and lots of tricks to help you survive, but against a combination of true genius and raw power, it's still nothing. Heck, I was rolling around drunk on the ground and all I had to do was let go."

It's sad, but true. For all of your abilities, skill, and smarts, there's no true way to overcome someone detonating the surrounding area. Or even worse, not needing to. You shudder as you remember how easily Sasuke was able to wave off everything you could do. Of course, you felt less bad as he did the same to the others.

Hanto turns back to you, and raises his fist with a shout. "The solution, naturally, is for you to obtain an insane amount of raw power!"

The silence lingers for a moment. His fist falls. "But, that's going to be difficult. I'm going to tell you the same thing that I told Kichiro, way back when I trained him for the Chunin exams."

Hanto suddenly appears in front of you, frowning. "You're fucked, you moron."

Your face is blank. "Thanks, Sensei."

He holds up a finger. "But wait, there's more! You and Kichiro, are, thankfully, actually pretty similar. In some ways. He's not quite as bright as you, and he's physically much more suited to Taijutsu, but there's also nothing special about him. The only way he's developed the raw power that he has is through hard work, and sheer will. Of course, a lot of the time that he would have spent training was spent in the hospital, as a result of his abuse of the 8 Gates technique. While you lack his physical gifts, there is something else that we can focus on as we develop your style."

"What's that?" you ask.

"Skill!"

Hanto ignites flames over his hands. "But before that, we have to teach you the basics. This is gonna take a little while.."

Over the next few days, Hanto is begins to teach you how to channel your Fire Nature chakra into your hands and feet. All you're required to do is coat your hands and feet in flame. It sounds simple enough, but manipulating your Chakra without forming handseals is like trying to move a boulder without using your hands or feet.

What do you want to do for your time off?

Remember to archive it in sup/tg/ for the future peeps too, and make the tags consistent to the old ones! I get that it's time consuming, and sometimes people do it for you, but it's not always consistent when you get someone to do it for you which can confuse people. Also bad descriptions of the threads can kill interest, look at the drop in votes between Boruto Quest Shippuden 1 and 2.

Once you're done with that day's training, you decide to head out and visit your friend Mari. At least, you think she should be there. You're not actually sure if she still has a job at her mother's workshop or not.

Seeing as you're pretty exhausted, you decide not to run the whole way there like you normally would. Instead, you take a fairly casual walk. An extremely casual one, even. Your whole body is aching from chakra exhausting. It turns out, trying to force your chakra to move without forming seals leads to pretty much all of it just being expelled in a waste. You even passed out, but your Underdog Seal brought you back to consciousness. Hanto seemed to know that was going to happen, though. He said that was "a good stopping point"

Probably because he didn't want to carry you back. It takes a while to get there. It's afternoon now. It's starting to get cold, as the seasons change from summer to fall.

Thankfully you have your navy blue jacket with a windbreaking material, with you. Ten-Ten's shop closes in a little while, so even if she is working you shouldn't be a disturbance.

The automatic doors slide open and let you in. At the counter is Ten-Ten, who looks up when the door rings. She widely grins. It's the first time she's seen you since your return. "Takeshi!! How are ya, buddy?"

Mari was sweeping the floor, and looking the other direction. It seems you're in her Byakugan's blindspot. She grumbles. "Stop doing that, Mom. If you keep trying the same thing it's not gonna-"

She turns around, and sees that you're actually here. "Nevermind." For some reason that you can't discern, her cheeks flush slightly. Not before she quickly changes to a cheeky grin. "Hey, loser."

You roll your eyes. "Hey, Ten-Ten. Hey, Mari. I just thought I'd stop by and see you guys."

"I've been with Hanto all day, training. Have you been working, Mari?"

She holds out the broom. You notice that she's got a bandana on her head, and her hair is tied in a ponytail. She's wearing an apron, as well. She looks very homey right now. It's quite a different look from her graceful kimono. Her milky white eyes look at you, brow furrowed. "No, I'm just sweeping for fun."

Ten-Ten chuckles. "Even Jounin still have to help out around here."

You nod. "Someone's gotta do it. By the way, what were you guys talking about? Something about Ten-Ten playing some kinda joke on you?"

Ten-Ten's face lights up. "Oh, I was just doing this thing where I say you're-"

The broom flies across the room, like a Javelin. Naturally, Ten-Ten catches it with a flourish and starts sweeping. "Oh, that's right. I've gotta go sweep up the back. Thanks Mari. I'll see you around, Takeshi! You'll have to check out what our new stock is like!"

You blink, mildly confused. "Okay then. Bye Ten-Ten."

Mari leans on the counter. "Come over here, dork. Don't stand by the door."

You walk over and lean next to her. You chuckle, looking down at her. "I remember when I first sparred you, it felt like you had this huge presence. Now you're shorter than me."

She crosses her arms. "Shut up. Only by a couple inches. What kind of training were you doing, by the way?"

You put a finger to your chin. "Oh, yeah! I'm trying to learn my Sensei's Dragon Boxing, since I'm okay with Fire chakra now. I only just started. I'm pretty exhausted from today. It's really hard learning to channel chakra without using seals."

Mari smugly grins. "Oh, you're having trouble with that? Well, I guess we Hyuuga do kind of have an advantage when it comes to it.."

You roll your eyes. "No kidding! If I could see what my chakra was doing it'd probably be a heck of a lot easier."

"Well, yeah. As it is now you're probably just trying to force it to move through your body, without it actually going through the network and gates. Here, let me show you."
>>
>>3970614
She grabs your arm, and jabs it with a single finger. You feel a sharp jolt as she injects a very small portion of chakra into you. "Ow, hey!"

She releases your arm. You notice that her hand is a pale, milky white, like her eyes. Despite the harsh nature of her occupation, it's somehow smooth and delicate looking. There's an odd, tingling warmth where she grabbed you. As well as a mild sting from where she jabbed you. She crosses her arms. "That was effortless for me. I just used the chakra that was already in my fingertips. If I want to make the burst stronger, I funnel chakra from the rest of my body. You just need to do the same with your Fire nature chakra, and push it out of your entire hand as a steady stream."

Mari holds up her palm to your face. A gentle wind blows out of it, blowing your hair back. "See? I actually showed Himawari how to do this. She's working on incorporating Wind into her Taijutsu in a similar way."

>A. Oh, yeah! I happened to spar with her the other day.

"Oh yeah! I happened to spar with her the other day. That technique seemed pretty interesting. She had a hard time countering my Hidden Mist Jutsu."

Mari looks at you with a blank face. "Oh yeah, you know that. I remember when you used it when you fought Sarada. Thankfully I can clear the mist fairly easily with repeated Air Palms. Himawari hasn't quite gotten the hang of that one yet."

You nod. "Yeah, that's a good jutsu. Well, hopefully it won't take me too long to figure this out. I need to avenge my loss to you."

She shakes her head. "Never gonna happen."

You chuckle. "Well, we'll see. We'll see. Hey, if you're not too scared of me getting stronger, maybe you could help me out and give me some pointers on this. You seem like the perfect training partner. We could do something after, too."

She stares at you, an angry frown. "I know what you're doing. You're trying to bait me into helping."

You stare back, face blank. Maybe if you don't say anything she'll cave.

"I'm in." she says.

You let out a sigh of relief. "Some other time, though. I'm too exhausted right now. Hanto really kicked my ass. I had to use my Underdog Seal just to get moving around again."

Honestly, you hadn't originally intended it that way. You were just throwing the suggestion out there. But, suddenly, a series of dots start to connect in your mind. It's something your brother Hideki once told you. 'Takeshi, the best way to ask a girl out is to make her unsure if you actually asked her out or not. That's how our parents met. Of course, Mom knew that Dad liked her anyways, but I think it fits your style.'

Back then, you weren't exactly sure what your bro meant by your 'style', but as your synapses fire something in your brain clicks.

Holy shit. I like girls! A lot! Mari's really cute! I just asked her out, too.

Before too long passes, you pick up the pace and respond, smiling. "Yes."

Her eyes go slightly wide, and she clasps her hands together. "I see. Well. Great. I'll see you... tomorrow?"

You nod. "Yeah, tomorrow sounds good. Do you mind meeting me and Hanto in the morning?"

She shakes her head. "That's fine."

There's a brief silence, and both of you kind of awkwardly stand there for a moment, unsure of what to say. She lightly flutters away. "W-well, I've gotta finish cleaning up, but I'll see you tomorrow."

"Uh-right, yeah. Have a uh.. good night!"

She turns away from you, desperately looking for a broom or something to occupy herself with. She starts to move some tools. "Yeah, good night, hahaha!"

You turn and start to walk out, and hear Ten-Ten mimic Mari's laughter on your way.

"H-h-hahaha!"

"SHUT UP MOM!!!"

Let me get this straight, the only reason we lost that fight with Hanto was because we lacked power.

So essentially our motivation going forward is that we need more power?

Virgil Takeshi when?

That was essentially Hanto's main point. But it's not just the reason that you lost THIS spar, but the very nature of the world you live in.

Possible!

You can already create hard-water constructs with your Hydro Sword technique
>>
>>3972301
>>3972414
It would work well with Takeshi's natural speed, Dragon Boxing and the jet sheathe. Hanto was saying Takeshi was lacking raw power so maybe something so blatantly offensive would be a good. The fact that water clones would be able to use it as well is also very appealing.
>>
>>3972414
How would we improve raw power?
Would that involve somehow helping fortify our chakra reserves?
>>
>>3972575
Speaking of, I had the idea of Putting a Bubble Bomb in a Haze Clone earlier, but could we do it with a Water Clone instead? That way, we'd have a water clone that would explode whenever it pops.
>>
>>3972616
That is a difficult question.

People who have "raw power" generally tend to get it from something that can't be trained. Whether that be a magic demon, a meteorite, a bloodline, or exceptional random genetics.

It's not that you're lacking in raw power and you need to train it. It's that there's just a natural power gap between you and some people.

Increasing your offensive arsenal is always a good idea, but are you going to be able to train something rivalling Amaterasu? Or a Tailed Beast Bomb? Or one of the million different OP things the Rinnegan can do?

If you want to be *the strongest* you need to start asking yourself these kinds of questions.

>>3972637
Very possible
>>
>>3972637
It's not in the pastebin but I imagine a Boil release clone should be possible. I think I remember Evil Takeshi using acid clones.
>>
>>3972646
He did, yes. Upon destruction they'd shower acid all around them.
>>
>>3972647
Baby steps I guess, I think "Bubble Clone" would be easier to develop for now, and would give us a good base to eventually mimic that acid clone's effect but with bases. It would also be an exploding clone, which would be insanely useful.
>>
>>3972575
Better yet, make them Base for extra power. Tho that would make them more chakra expensive. We should work on making Base clones too.
>>3972414
Didn't you say once that the range of our Hydro Sword sucked? We should get that checked.
>>
>>3972643
Sooooooo Sage mode? It's what let Jiraiya the perennial fuck up by on par with Tsunade "Fuck you I'm a senju" and Orocimaru "I am mad science incarnate" despite not be exceptionally intelligent, not having a basically perfect body from gene hax, and not willing to commit the worst crimes imaginable for power.
>>
>>3972657
Maybe? It's a normal katana made from water, essentially. I don't recall saying something like that.

But I have been running this for more than 4 years now so it is possible

>>3972659
Now here's an idea
>>
>>3972651
Correct, Bubble Clone would be less powerful but easier to learn than an outright Base Clone
>>
>>3972657
Yeah, don't want to disappoint Mari with a small Hydro Sword.
>>
>>3972666
So, we start with just bubble clone, then we get to base clone, then we make bubble base clones which both explodes and has a corrosive effect. The idea also works for summon swords, start with water then go to corrosive base.
>>
>>3972672

That's a good plan.

As for learning how to do a "Summoned Sword" type thing, there's two things I would advise you to go towards.

Learning the 1000 Needles of death jutsu, and working on ways to improve your Hydro Sword
>>
>>3972682
Speaking of
we never did learn that water snebon thing
so we could make explosives senbon or basic ones.

It's something stupid simple with a massive AOe sweep that makes most defenses inadequate, cause even if you block, you now have malefic terrain around you.

>>
>>3972699
Ahh, thanks. Yeah, it's range is only about the same as a normal sword. You could learn to extend that, however.

Ended up not getting the jutsu I was thinking of, at the time, though. Won't be as hard as a new Soap technique or something, however.

>>3972698
Yes, 1000 needles of death. That'd be a good fit for you I think
>>
>>3972713
It's no beast bomb for sure, but the applications of really nasty shit we can turn it into with boil style is fun.

And it synergizes well with hidden mist.
>>
>>3972659
Owl sage would be a good idea, if it is a thing, otherwise we may need to make a contract with another animal which I think is possible but not a good idea
>>
>>3972682
Sweet... where can we learn that jutsu again? Also, who do we know that is real good with hydrosword/has info on how to improve in it.
>>
>>3972735
You should be able to find information on that in one the library.

As for Hydro Sword, there's Roku, and Rokuro. (confusing I know)

Essentially Rokuro Kichiro's opponent in the preliminaries of the Chunin Exams. He uses water and earth style jutsu. He's kind of a snobby guy.

Roku is one of Mari's team-mates and he's got a similar style to you. He was your preliminaries opponent. He mainly uses Medical Jutsu but also practices water.
>>
>>3972735
Kakashi probably knows it. He'd prolly have a good lead on sword thing too.
>>
>>3972746
Roku also got those self made blood jutsus didn't he? I wanna figure those out, it might come handy.
>>
>>3972747
Kakashi is a pretty good guy to ask for literally any Jutsu almost

>>3972752
Correct
>>
Couple of questions,

1.What are the odds of Takeshi being approached as an ANBU canidate? I think his skillset and mentality would be just what they're looking for.

2.If we learn 1000 needles of death, could we work it into our hydro sword so that each slash sends needles flying out?
>>
>>3972779
1. Strong Maybe, but they likely want a few missions to evaluate his progress first

2. We could but it'd be a third new jutsu tbqh.
>>
>>3972779
>>3972783

Pretty good answers, but not sure if you guys would want to be ANBU necessarily. It means completely abandoning your social life and history.
>>
>>3972758
Speaking of Kekashi, could he get us a tanto like his?
https://naruto.fandom.com/wiki/White_Light_Chakra_Sabre
I don't know if it would be better but it sure is fancy.
>>
>>3972788
Yeah I'd definitely vote to turn it down.
>>
>>3972798
I have no idea what the purpose of that thing is other than being fancy lol.

>We've got a date with Mari

Based. And man, that conversation was cute. Now the real question we should ourselves... where do we take her out to afterwards? Ramen? Sushi? Barbecue? Somewhere else?

So I just had an idea, if we learn the theoretical summon sword technique. Could we mount each sword on our body at various places then keep them steady? If so, we could use the jet sheath to spin us insanely fast, turning into a man sized lethal Beyblade.

The more I think about it, the more it seems like learning how to enter Sage Mode is the best option for equalling the playing field.

It boosts our physical stats, lets us access a new range of techniques and (according to the Naruto wiki at least) Sage Chakra / Nature Energy can be stored for later use, it theoretically solves the issue of lacking a naturally large chakra pool.

I still want to learn how to Dragon Box and other new Jutsus for sure, but it seems like it's going to be pretty vital if things start ramping up like Mini has been suggesting.
>>
Once you got home, you did your best to cook yourself a meal. Of course, your energy supplies were rapidly depleting. Just as you were grabbing a skillet to grill some meat, fatigue began to wash over you. As you started to fall asleep, you nearly placed your hand on an open flame to catch yourself from falling.

Cup noodles it is. Filling it with water and microwaving the styrofoam cup is easy enough, as you rest your head flat on the counter.

Chakra exhaustion is really troublesome. You remember feeling this way a lot as you trained your Soap jutsu, with Sasuke. Having such a limited pool means that the amount of time that you can spend wasting it is cut down considerably. Meaning the amount of time learning new stuff is shortened as well. It seems like people with naturally large chakra pools, like Jinchuriki or Uchiha, have even more advantages than you originally considered.

After sucking down the sodium-enriched meal, you chug a bunch of water and hit the hay. The next morning, you quickly go through your ritual for getting ready and make your way to the training field.

Surprising you, Hanto and Mari are both there before you. Generally you're the one who's first.

Hanto turns, and throws a rock at your head suddenly. You duck under it. "A date!?! You!? Where's the real Takeshi??"

"Your favorite liquor is tequila, sensei!" you shout earnestly, your voice cracking slightly.

"EVERYONE KNOWS THAT, TRY AGAIN!!"

Mari tiredly rubs her eye. "How the hell do you two get anything done like this?"

"The training has already started! If I can dodge a kunai, I can dodge a rock. Isn't that right, sen-"

A rock hits your forehead, knocking you to the ground. You sit up, blood starting to dribble down your forehead. You have a frown on your face. "Sensei."

Mari blinks. "Holy shit. Are you okay?"

You nod. "I'm fine. I have a thick skull. My bro too."

She grins. "I know that much, but what about that poor brain?"

Hanto is looking for more rocks. You stand up and yell. "Sensei! Maybe you should go on a date with Mirai-Sensei." After a moment, you grumble a small addition. "And leave me alone."

He suddenly looks up, as if a great realization had come over him. "Oh shit."

Both you and Mari look at him, raising an eyebrow. The two of you speak in unison. "What is it?"

You look at each other with the slightest glance of surprise, and then look back to Hanto. He almost seems afraid, as the blood drains from his face. "I totally asked her out but forgot. That explains why she was so pissed at me last time."

Mari is shaking her head in disappointment, as you quickly use the Mystical Palm Jutsu to cover up the cut on your forehead. Ignoring Hanto, Mari instead walks over to you, her Byakugan active. She seems to be studying your usage of the Mystical Palm. She puts her hand to her chin, and nods slowly. "I see. You're pretty good at controlling your chakra already. It shouldn't' be too hard for you to learn this. You should take your shirt and pants off."
>>
>>3975993
Hanto holds up a finger, and you can tell by the grin on his face he's getting ready to make some kind of inane joke. Of course, Mari literally has eyes in the back of her head. She whips an angry glare at him. "You shut up! I can see through clothes anyways, it's not like it matters!!"

His finger falls, deflated. "You're no fun. Continue."

Following her instruction, you remove all of your gear until you're left in just your boxers. Mari pulls out a marker. "Alright, I'm going to mark the critical points of your chakra network, as well as the gates. Just hold still for a second."

She reaches out with the marker, almost making contact with a spot on your shoulder. She freezes, however. The morning breeze is chilly as it blows against your skin. You blink. "Mari?"

The Jounin turns and holds the marker out to Hanto. "You do it."

He dramatically waves his hands, before swiping the marker. "Ohhh, now you need my input! Fine, fine."

Your sensei marks your chakra gates and network with the marker, until you're covered in black markings starting from your core to the fingertips and feet. It takes a little while, and you're starting to get cold. "Guys, can I put my clothes on?"

Hanto shakes his head. "Nah. You're going to do the same thing you did yesterday, but hopefully being able to visualize the place your network is will help things smooth over. Luckily you're working with Fire, so you'll be warm soon enough."

>A. Start by trying to expel a small amount of Fire chakra out of your fingertips
>B. Start by trying to expel a medium amount of Fire chakra out of your palms
>C. Start by trying to expel a large amount of Fire chakra out of your elbows
>>
>>3975997
>B. Start by trying to expel a medium amount of Fire chakra out of your palms
>>
>>3975997
Where is the place marked on our hands? I assume we'd expel it from there.
>>
>>3976005
There are nodes on your fingertips, knuckles, and the base of your palm.
>>
>>3976009
Well then, knuckles. That's where we'd want the fire chakra to come out right?

If we can't do that(because you didn't list it) then.

>B. Start by trying to expel a medium amount of Fire chakra out of your palms
But like, focus on the base of our palms.

We were struggling to exert medium amounts of fire when we first did this. I'm assuming it does it based of the method of varying the amount power being pumped out.

You decide to try the same thing as yesterday, first. This time, you imagine the chakra bubbling up from your core and then gently flowing out of the chakra nodes on the base of your palm.

Watching your arm actually seems to help quite a bit. Visualizing the networks themselves, you're able to much more smoothly guide the chakra out of your core and through the limb. Yesterday, most of it was being lost in the transition between the core and the limb. Now, you can actually feel the Fire nature chakra moving.

The base of your palm, sure enough, feels warm. Mari smiles, holding her fists tightly in front of her. "Yeah! Just like that! Now, think of the node like a funnel. Just like you would if you were casting Great Fireball Jutsu from your mouth."

With her advice, a small jet of flame begins to expel itself from your hand.

Hanto crosses his arms. "Well I'll be damned. Kichiro had to pass out like twenty times before we got this far. This chakra network stuff is a pretty good idea."

She turns to him. "You mean you don't use this?"

He shakes his head. "I have enough chakra that I can just force it out."

She frowns. "Right. Poor Kichiro."

https://youtu.be/WNSf_w0Er70

Holding up your palms, you thrust them both down at the grass. Sure enough, the tiniest little fireballs expel themselves. They don't fly far before dissipating, but it's much more of a start than you would have gotten otherwise. You smile. "Awesome! So, I just have to get used to doing this enough?"

Hanto chuckles. "That's the basic idea, yeah. You'll have to learn how to do it while actually fighting, though. Through all sorts of different attacks, and positions. As well as casting the various Fire jutsu you know. I can help you with that though. I know your Taijutsu style pretty well, so we can focus on the best aspects of your technique. Since you can do this much, let's work on punches. Instead of a steady stream, release bursts from your knuckles as you punch."

Giving it a try, another small fireball lets itself loose. This one seems to go a bit farther. You do it again and again, letting combos loose.

You try to throw a hooking punch, but it doesn't come out this time. You notice that it's easiest with straight punches. Hanto points. "Yeah, like that. You tend to go for straight-angled punches more so than hooks like Kichiro. Since that's what your body is most used to, it's easier for you to focus on moving your chakra. We'll have to expand your Taijutsu, as well as improve your Ninjutsu."

Energy starts to fill your body. This is pretty exciting. What would happen to someone if you hit them with a flame boosted, iron hard punch?

Mari starts to walk away, giving a small wave. "My part here is done. Just come to my place once you're done, Takeshi. Don't forget to go home and clean up first, though. I don't want you stinking up the shop!"

You nod. "Right! Thanks again!"
>>
>>3976074

Over the rest of the day, you and Hanto continually practice Dragon Boxing. He leads you through all of the fundamental forms, until you're exhausted physically and in terms of chakra. By the end of it, you're also capable of channeling very small fireballs from your kicks. They're still too weak to be effectual, but it's a huge improvement over yesterday.

Once it's later in the afternoon, you tell your Sensei goodbye and head home to clean up for your...

The word "Date" hits you like a ton of bricks. While you're in the shower, a new kind of nervousness starts to overtake you. Something completely different from mortal danger or the fear of losing.

When you get out, you start looking through your wardrobe for something to wear. You don't actually own that many casual clothes, but you decide to go with a lavender T and a dark blue button up shirt to go over it. You leave the shirt unbuttoned, and wear a pair of black jeans for the bottom part.

As you stand in front of the bathroom mirror, you mess with your hair a little bit. It's getting a bit long. Taking the comb, you slick it back. It has a bit of a wavy look to it, and a single strand falls over your face. You also nab a little bit of your brother's cologne.

Heading out the door, you gulp. For some reason the tension is even greater than when you fought Boruto in the exams, or the first time you sparred Sasuke.

It doesn't take too long for you to get there.

Opening up the door to the shop, you see Ten-Ten flipping through a catalog. She looks up, and beams. "Oh. My. Gosh. Look at you. Mari, he's here!"

There's a loud crash, and then the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs.

The tension you feel either dissipates, or intensifies as you see her. You're honestly not sure which it is. She isn't wearing the kimono that you've become so accustomed to. Her hair is up in a ponytail, held together by a yellow silk ribbon. She's wearing a white button up blouse, that's a little puffy and frilly on the shoulders. She also has a maroon skirt, that cuts of just above her knees. A conservative, but fun outfit. She looks a little pensive as she stands in front of you. Her soft, white cheeks have a hint of blush on them, and her wide eyes look you up and down briefly.

"Hi." you say, a little awestruck as you look at her. Her hair being up like this frames her face completely differently, and you can really appreciate how cute all of her little features are. She's very much a classic beauty. Before you get too distracted for too long, you figure it might be a good idea to compliment her.

"You look good." you both say in unison, eyes locking for a brief moment. The heat rushes to your cheeks immediately, especially as you see her look away at the same time, embarrassed.

The both of you notice Ten-Ten leaning on the counter, her head resting on her hands. "To be young. You kids have fun now!"

She waves you both off, and you and Mari head out the door. She looks up at you, holding her small purse by the strap. "Where are we going?"

"Is there anywhere you'd like to go in particular?"

She thinks for a second. "Wellll, there's this one barbecue place that I love. They have this sauce that's-"

"Not too sweet, and spicy. Right?"

She cocks a small grin at you, as you both begin to walk. "Yeah. Something like that. You actually remember that?"

You chuckle. "Yeah. I happen to have some coupons, too. Cho-Cho gave them to me for that big birthday party I had before we left. We can really pig out tonight."

She beams. "That sounds nice. I had a really good time, then. You and your brother are pretty similar, hehe. By the way, I like that cologne that you have on! It smells like an ocean breeze!"

Mentally, you note that you'll have to thank your brother for this. He was at work, so you didn't get a chance to tell him about it, but recounting the story later will be fun. As you're both walking, a little kid runs past with his friends and splashes a puddle. It nearly catches Mari on the skirt, but you grab her by the shoulders and spin her to the other side. She 'eeps' sharply. It gently sprays against your jeans, but it'll dry quickly.

She looks at you, blushing. "I'm a Jounin, you know. I was gonna move!"

You shrug. "That's right. Sometimes I forget that you beat me, recently."

She pouts. "Why is that when I win you treat it like it's nothing big, but when you win it pisses me off?"

"Well, I kinda expect to lose!"

She rolls her eyes, and the two of you keep on your way.

The sun is going down in the distance, and the air starts to cool down. There seems to be a fair number of people out and about. You reach the restaurant, and head on inside. You're given a booth to yourselves. The atmosphere is boisterous and friendly, and there's a fair number of people here.

The two of you have a wonderful evening. The initial shock of seeing each other in a new light has worn off, and you're back to your ordinary selves. You ask a lot of questions about the adventures of your friends while you were gone.

The waiter brings you your drinks. Mari has an unsweetened ice tea with a slice of lemon, while you stick with water.

"What was it like working with Naruto, not to mention training with Kichiro?"

She tears off the top off the top of the wrapper to her paper straw, before blowing it at you. It hits your face, and you don't react at all, looking at her blankly. Just as you're about to reach out for yours and do the same to her, she snatches it and does it again. You sigh deeply, and she has a nice giggle. Then, and only then, she decides to answer your question.

"It was a great experience. Naruto really helped us bring the most out of ourselves. I really like Kichiro more, as well. He brought his sister along a lot. I didn't know he was actually such a big softie. Back when we were in the academy, he was such a troublemaker I mostly just avoided him. But it's great seeing everyone grow up. How about you? What was your time with Sasuke like?"

You think for a few seconds, clasping your hands together. The waiter brings out your appetizers, surprisingly fast. She got a blooming onion, with some kind of secret sauce. She sees you lusting after it with your eyes, and shares some with you. Of course, in return she also swipes a few cherry tomatoes from your salad.

>A. It was a humbling experience. Boruto, Sarada, Ai and him are all incredible shinobi. Of course, Sasuke just seems like he's in another world.
>B. It was scary. It was hard to relate to him, and he was mostly quiet except for his instructions. Which were brutal at times. Of course, I still enjoyed it all.
>C. It was frustrating. I don't think I'd lost so much in fights and in training since before I became a Genin. He made sure to be extra hard on me, because I didn't have as much talent as the others. It made me stronger, of course.

Gotta let her see that we have problems too. And honestly I could see how Takeshi just getting shrekked by bloodline techniques and other shit would get irritating after a while.

Showing that we've got vulnerabilities of our own might be prudent.

"It was frustrating. I don't think I've lost so much in fights and in training since before I became a Genin. He made sure to be extra hard on me, because I didn't have as much talent as the others. It made me stronger, of course."

She nods, slowly. "I think that's part of what made you.."

She pauses, considering what she's about to say. She sighs, relenting to admitting what she thinks. "So impressive. Most of your training is done all by yourself. But I guess even that can only take you so far."

Admittedly, the fact of the matter somewhat hurts your pride. You'd like to be able to surpass them without anyone's help. But, that's simply the nature of any profession. The people who came before you are going to be much better. It'd be silly to be angry about it.

You finish off your salad, as she finishes her appetizer. One time, the main courses arrive. Your sandwich is huge, probably about nineteen inches. She ordered a rack of ribs.

She pulls something out of her purse, and the sight of it makes you chuckle. It's a bib, that reads "BBQ CHAMPION"

It covers her whole white blouse. She licks her lips and looks at the rack of ribs with the glare of a predator. She chuckles. "Yes.."

"Did you actually win a contest to get that?"

She nods. "I was the first non-Akimichi to win it in twenty six years. I ate six racks of ribs in under an hour."

You blink. "...I don't think that's a challenge I'm willing to take on."

The both of you enjoy your meals greatly. By the end, you're totally stuffed. Mari even lets out a loud burp, causing her to blush.

You initially don't react, but summon up all of your strength and try to burp back even louder.

She shrugs. "Mine was like, an 8. That was more like a six."

You roll your eyes. "Is everything a contest?"

She smiles, satisfied. "Yes."

Mari decided to opt for the chocolate brownie. You have the idea to cut each other's desserts in half, and swap them. It's a very chocolatey-peanutbuttery experience, and a wonderful way to top off the dinner.

Afterwards, the two of you head outside. You rub your tummy. "Man, I haven't had a meal like that in ages."

She chuckles. "Me either. Thanks for inviting me out."

"Thanks for helping me with my training earlier! I think I'm going to get a handle on this Dragon Boxing thing soon enough."

She saunters forward, holding her purse with both hands. "I'm sure you will~"

With a few quick steps, you catch up with her. The sun has now set, and the street lights bathe the city in a warm glow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGZH3djutZ8

She looks up at you briefly, and then back to the road. For a few moments, neither of you say anything as you walk. Carefully, you gently reach out with hand. Although she's holding her purse with both hands, you skillfully hook a pinky underneath hers. She relaxes her hold, and lets her hand fall to her side. Your fingers intermingle, and soon, you're grasping each other's hand.

Hers feels incredibly soft, and frail in yours. It always surprises you how she can seem so feminine, yet capable. When she was fighting you just a few weeks ago, her hands felt like weapons.

At first, you're just holding each other's palms, but as you walk, your fingers interlock completely.

The two of you head back to her home like this, comfortable. A few steps away from the door, she hooks her purse on her shoulder by the strap, and turns to face you. She looks up just slightly, and stares into your eyes. She takes your other hand, and locks it, before leaning forward and pressing into you with a hug.

You hug her back.

"I had a good time." she says.

"Me too."

"I know we didn't really hang out all that much before, but, when you were gone, I always wondered how you were. Outside of the village. I'm glad to have you back."

She suddenly pushes you back, and sticks her tongue out at you. "Feel free to challenge me to a rematch any time!"

Mari runs back into her home, not looking back.

You stand there, a bit awestruck. After a moment, you take a deep breath and look up at the sky.

It IS good to be back.

---

That's all for tonight folks. I'll be around for a little while to answer some questions.
>>
>>3976398
> I always wondered how you were. Outside of the village. I'm glad to have you back
That was too cute.

Can we get any hints into what we're doing next?
>>
>>3976398
>Date successful

Fuck yeah. Thanks for running, Mini! The fact that this happened on my birthday was serendipitous, heh.

A few questions I'm curious about. What would've happened if we used large amounts of fire chakra at the elbow? Small amounts at the fingertips? What would have happened if we didn't hold her hand or decided to wrap our arm around her shoulder?

Thanks for running! So, what did Tenten say when Mari came back running?
>>
>>3976398
Thanks for running.

What is the general reaction to Takeshi doing something like dating? Who knows so far and how did they react?
>>
Hey Mini, Is it possible for us to keep our chakra contained close to our body when using dragon boxing? I think it would allow it to release in a burst on contact and allow us to not waste chakra on attacks that might not connect.
>>
>>3976404
More training with Hanto, and a new mission soon enough.

Your next mission will include spending a week or so in another country.

>>3976409
You'll learn more about the Dragon Boxing stuff soon. For a while, you won't be able to use it in full capacity. That option determined your "limited" style, but after more training you'll be able to use all of it.

As for the other stuff, nothing bad would have happened per say. The arm around the shoulder would have ended with a judo throw, as opposed to a playful push.

Not an angry one, but nonetheless.

Going for neither would have meant not getting as heartfelt of a goodbye.

>>3976412
Ten-Ten watched your approach on the roof with night-vision goggles, on max zoom. She was pleased.

>>3976419
Not too many people know yet, but everyone's going to find out soon enough. Especially since Hanto and Ten-Ten both know. Prepare for teasing. Most people think it's cute, some people are mildly concerned.

Kakashi thinks it's probably a bad idea, just because it's a work relationship technically. But he knows he's an old fuddy-duddy. Him and Guy have talked about this extensively.

>>3976422
It'll be fine. You can simply choose to fire it or not fire it. It won't automatically come out of every punch, when you're using it.
>>
>>3976428
>She would have thrown Takeshi over her shoulder, but not angrily

Best girl.

This makes me wonder... Has anyone else in our generation begun dating? If Takeshi was the first, I can definitely see how much of a surprise it is.
>>

Geeze, how did he react to Shikamaru and Temari?

Thanks for running dude, what did Mari think of the date?
>>
>>3976774
THAT was actually seen as the beneficial marriage between two powerful families of their respective villages, cementing political ties for future generations even in the event of tensions.

YOUR relationship is one where a mission could become endangered as a result of your feelings. However, it's not illegal or anything, just mildly frowned upon. Kakashi probably won't put you guys on a mission together for these reasons, (or maybe he will, depending on it's nature)

Mari enjoyed the date quite a bit. She looks forward to the next time you guys have the chance to do this again.
>>
>>3976796
I don't remember the series itself, but wasn't he fine with Asuma and Kurenai back in the day?

I just imagine ninja marrying other ninja to be a pretty common occurrence. Maybe it's just an old fashioned mindset, which makes sense for him to have considering how old he is.
>>
>>3976801
I don't particularly remember that in the series either, but if at any point Kakashi was like "love is our true strength" and was fine with that

I'm gonna go ahead and retcon that to what I prefer, because these are soldiers and that's DUMB

a work relationship can cause problems in retail let alone a military organization with super powers where the fate of your nation is sometimes at stake
>>
>>3976804
Makes sense in theory, but like... The Hokage totally did it too. It's one if those things I imagine is frowned upon, but people totally do it all the time. The emphasis on eugenics and bloodline techniques would also likely lead to strong ninja ending up together for powerful babies and therefore more powerful families. Fuck, just look at this entire generation. Nearly nothing but sons and daughters of ninja that worked together, and look how amazing that turned out.
>>
>>3976804
>but if at any point Kakashi was like "love is our true strength" and was fine with that
Well, considering how big of an influence Minato and Kushina were on his life, and his connection to the creator of TnJ himself, I wouldn't say he wouldn't
Then again, the whole debacle with Rin and Obito was also a huge influence on him so it could go either way.
>>

We should try making a Boil release offshoot of the Hydro Sword, could be really nasty.
Also I think a good way to utilize Dragon boxing with our Iron skin could be by releasing it at the elbow like a booster rocket.
>>
>>3986583
I'm pretty sure that's just standard Dragon Boxing. Iron Skin will make it much more effective and less damaging to us though.
>>
>>3986593
As far as I understand the standard Dragon Boxing consists mainly of covering your fists in fire chakra to burn and/or explode your opponent.
>>
>>3986954
Hanyo and Kichiro both use for mobility, jusy check the 1st thread of pt 2. Probably safe to think of it like how Jugo uses his curse and chakra like boosters but with fire instead of pure chakra.
>>

Well, just read through the archives, and got up to this. Good fun. Happy with the personality you guys have built so far, and we've built a fairly solid repertoire, that's both versatile and maintains a lot of room for growth. Kind of been skimping out on Genjustu lately though, good as Ephemeral is, so we really ought to pay a visit to the Owl village. Or maybe try to work out a means of performing the paralyzing bell genjutsu with something that takes less time to set up, like a whistle, as that anon suggested way back. Could be possible, if we find a way to reproduce the bell sounds with one.
